I've had this phone for about three years now. I was always very satisfied with it, the memory was more than enough for me. Yesterday it displayed problems for the first time, but after many hours of work - following instructions in forums about flyme UI - I managed to update the flyme version and the phone is mostly working again. After three years of mostly perfect functioning, it went to 24 hours of freezing and crashing every 30 seconds, and now it's been almost fine for 18 hours or so, but did crash three times over that time period. I think it'll have to be retired, but I have been very pleased with it over the time I've had it.

The biggest mistake I made, after two years of using it with ocassional problems (after one of software updates front camera stopped working, glitches, etc.) it got worse first it blocked all of google app, i tried to fix that, but i couldn't, after that SMS flow stopped, now I can use it just like old fashioned phone, to call and answer calls.

Dear nametoocomplicated, I'm still using the Meizu MX5 as of now, It has a working time of over 2 years now, It's not scratched, the screen works perfectly, hell It's battery still holds a long time with full use. I'm a Technician so I guess It's gonna work with no problems in the right hands, sorry your mom couldn't be satisfied with the camera lens durability. U would advise to look up Nokia 3310 for her (for some this newer type of technology is just not durable enough)

Do the quality match the price when you buy it new.After to years if using this phone iam going to admit , that was a good choice . The phone andels verois application at time never goes in a gap or get blocked the best ever experience of android version. Flyme Os is the best opponent to IOS. The best battery endurance. Cammera quality is bad in all Situations it was a delusion , as I was accpecting from a Sony sensor a higher Standard. The Infrared is unsable, the flash is good.The Language options are limited. The materials cover are good. The Display is a good Amoled . This phone is super for gps signal, wifi super utms ,4g signal super . The fingerprint sensor and the navgation button in one is a great Simple thing .After i had the display burntout with alcoohol. I change it and the result even better it works as it was working in first days i bought it .

The battery is most likely dying. I had the same issue with my old LG Optimus G where the battery was non-removable, like this this one. I'm afraid you'll either have to take it to a service shop to have the battery changed or....well, it's time to buy a new phone.

Using it for for some time now, more than a year. For the price can't be better. Never had a problem. When I bought it, first what I installed was Nova launcher so I'm using it as any other Android phone. Good quality, good camera, very fast. Long story short would recommend. Also looks like 800 $ phone, not as I paid it.

nah it isnt like that, yes i admit that i do not own mx5 but, i do own m2 note which is good just like other meizu phones. they always offer you to install google services on hot apps notification, and if they dont offer then you can also open hot apps and install google installer which helps alot. btw if you use the phone a lot, you could like the flyme aswell, since it is lag free and it doesnt freeze at all

I am using MX 5 for more than a year now and here is my review. The phone itself is amazing. Camera is great, processor is just perfect, i can run anything with no lag or bad fps, display and sound are also good. The phone for its price is really good. But the problem is Flyme (android based but slightly modified platform). The flyme itself is good, it runs very smoothly but the problem is that meizu is focusing only on chinese market and they actually stopped having international and chinse version of flyme (atm its only so called "global" version which is basicly chinese, since they started adding chinese apps so i haven't upgrade flyme in about half a year now). Also with every update they broke something (snapchat, messenger...) and they need months to fix a tiny problem. And for the end, in recent updates they removed google mobile services (playstore, gmail...) and people have loads of problems not being able to install google from meizu's app store.

Worst phone. I am regretting now. Meizu says it has used gorilla glass 3 on camera lens but despite keeping it with all the care, the camera lens is easily scratched. I am totally dissatisfied with this phone especially due to camera lens issue.

I have this phone for more than 4 months and I can say that it is a real value deal. Battery life is amazing and the processor is doing just fine. No problems with the camera either. Do not I would never go again for Samsung, HTC or iphone. They are just too expensive and not much better than this phone. Be smart and save your money!

I have that device for a while and I got to say— I'm pleasantly surprised. It has a premium build nd build materials, it's performance is very snappy— it dose not need to keep up to me even in heaviest of tasks, and I don't have to keep up to it. The camera produces fantastic shots and it is also descent in low light. Battery life also wasn't a problem as I get in the month I use this phone a full day of heavy use with at least 4 hours of screen on time. I personaly like the software experience in it. It is really similar to iOS and it performes very snappy overall. I an sure that if you want a nice overall experience for an affordable price, this is the best way to go. The professional reviewers were really rough with that for no good reason. I recommend you to take that device. You won't be disappointed.

Same problem here, too! (Main microphone seems defective!) My brother had bought a meizu mx5 from aliexpress lately but it has a major problem. When he's making a call nobody can hear him at all, but if he turns the speaker on, it's possible. And if we use a sound recorder app there's no problem. As a result, I think that the main (call) microphone is defective but the second noise reduction microphone is OK. I wanted to update the Flyme OS from 4.5.4.1I to a newer one but couldn't manage. It gives "Firmware corrupted" error. I guess this is a China version phone and the seller installed this "international" Flyme version to it, most probably (It's rooted already, as well). I will try to install a newer Chinese (A) version of Flyme, but I don't think that this will solve the microphone problem, it's probably hardware related. After that i will try to find a way to use the 2. microphone as the main microphone for phone calls. I don't know if it's possible or not, but i have a little hope. Maybe swapping the 2 microphones is possible with a script or changing some codes in system, who knows. This phone is stylish and good enough for a mediocre use, but it's totally a crap with a major microphone problem unfortunately. I tried to explain the problem in detail, to inform other users also. And please advise if you have some opinions about this problem.

Unfortunatelly, this smartphone is lookig good only on the paper. The worst side of Meizu mx5 is screen - not even similar to Samsung or other branded smartphones. Battery every day is weaker and weaker. Many problems with GPS and apps compatibility. Camera is below average, flashlight literally does't exist, it's just a little bright dot. Acceptable for gaming or simple everyday purposes. Unacceptable for price. Would't reccomend. It's not worth of the money. Most of the functions known from the Korean smartphones are in chinese. Voice browsers, text prediction etc...

Same here. One fine morning, the mobile screen did not come up and horizontal lines started coming up. (if at all it boots). Its just 3 months and used very carefully. The phone as sent to their main Chennai Service Center. Its been 10 days. No one picks the phone and no reply over email. Now, I am using my Note 1 (GT-N7000) with a replaced battery for now. (still works perfect after all these years...little slow.) Its been a very big mistake to go after these chinese brands. Their phones are real VFM as long as they work. Once any issue comes up : Its a lesson-learnt scenario and we will fall back to reputed and established brands.

I would have bought this phone in a minute flat if it had the MX4's 1152 x 1920 or MX3's 1080 x 1800 screen. Those unusual resolutions really set the previous two in the series apart and i have owned them both. As it is this new MX5 is just another mid-high range Chinese phone with a good camera.

I bought this phone about 3 months ago, and I'm super happy with it so far. I only got the 16gb version, which gave me about 13 or so gb of free space. It's enough for me, but might not be for some other people. It's light, cheap, takes great pictures, has great sound from the speakers, and is fast. The fingerprint scanner works really well too. It's basically like an iPhone 6 but a third of the price. I've heard some people complain that Chinese brand phones really slow down after half a year or so, so I guess I have to wait and see whether this one will keep me happy for a long time or not, but I'm VERY happy with my purchase so far. don't do it the hard way like I did. if you need google service, simply go the the installed app store and search for google installer. Install the google installer and then install any google apps. That is it, no need to root the phone or complicated software. to my disappointment, It does not have casting.

I have been using MX5 from October. At first, I was able to use 2-sim at the same time. Don't know what happened I wasn't able to use the second one after a while. So I left it, and decided I can live with that. But today phone's screen went off out of nowhere. No physical damage. Sometimes it gets back, and sometimes a white, or sometimes orange screen comes. I heard the phone's starting sound but no vision. Just those screen I mentioned. I assure you there wasn't any physical damage. In conclusion, 1. Problem with 2nd SIM card after a while. Not working at all 2. White screen came on. Cannot use the phone anymore. 3. There is not any online help that you can use to repair your phone without sending back to China. There is but insufficient. 4. Some apps are in Chinese and you cannot uninstall them. (Keyboard, Weather, Maps, App center, Music player, Voice and etc.). Really annoying. 5. Sometimes finger scanner doesn't recognize 6. Battery life only last for one day even with not an extensive use. But charging is really fast 7. Has heating problem. It is like on fire while charging. Gets hot really fast when play game. After all, PLEASE DON'T BUY THIS BUGGY PHONE. I AM WRITING THIS BECAUSE I DON'T WANT YOU MAKE THE SAME MISTAKE I DID.

The apps are in chinese because they have a chinese version of "Flyme", in chinese version you don't have google play also. I also had a problem when i got my phone that flyme was in Chinese. I fixed that with installing international version of flyme(i just downloaded it from flyme site). After that all my problems were fixed and till now i didn't have any problems with the phone.

Both phones are great. I am a MX5 user and the phone is just great. No app is in chinese except some portions of the security app. The storage is the only problem here but i can easily manage using an otg. But if you have bit of extra money Honor 7 is a great buy. My frnd has honor and its good too. The sd card expansion is a plus point. However gaming is excellent on the mx5, tried lots of hd games i.e. asphalt 8, implosion, godfire, gta etc.. All work exceptionally good. No matter what phone you pickup, both are great. If storage is not the problem mx5 is a beast otherwise go for Honor 7.

Great phone But takes time to get use to it came with lots of Chinese apps and some English, the manual was in Chinese, you would have to do some work on your own to get it Just right. It is a hi quality smart phone and fast .

Great phone. I switched from iphone and it was easy to adapt. However there's a couple of issues: 1. The screen regularly wakes up while the phone is charging (although screen is locked). It's not push notifications - the screen just wakes up consistently. 2. I had an issue that the apps inside the folders just popped out of them out of a sudden and got shattered all over the screens. It was really annoying I had to re-arrange them one by one.

Last noght I updated my MX5 with Flyme OS 5.1 (A) from 4.5 (A). The UI in general has become even more beautiful (although I am using NOVA launcher). Hello, the camera is really impressive actually. It has extremely good dynamic range it handles noise very efficiently and the manual mode is good (could hve been better but still). The fingerprint scanner is the fastest i've seen and by adding multiple fingerprints you can unlock with every finger you can scan while having (slightly) wet fingers and solve this problem. I don't know how accurate the results may be then or if some security will be compromised.

The phone itself is really nice, good quality. Works very smooth and fast, the FHD amoled screen is beautiful and gaming performance is also excellent. Fingerprint recognition Works 90%of the time for the first try the rest for the second usually (if your hands are not wet) . Only problem is the camera, which is very bad quality. I had a Samsung note 2 with 8mp camera before this and i think that made better pictures. For me its not so important but for others might be. The battery is decent, last a little longer than my note, the mCharge is awesome, finally a phone charges very fast even if I'm using it heavily. I think it worth the money.

i have been using this phone for almost 10 days now so here's a short review. 1: Battery life is awesome. can last a whole day with heavy usage . 2: Camera is nice but am not a cam geek . 3: 2G 3G and 4G networks are working fine 4: Phones heats up a bit during charging from 0-60%, i think the phone then turns on trickle charging after 60% therefore charging become a bit slower. One complete charge takes almost 1.5 hours. 5: UI is cool but limited. built in security app is awesome. doesn't let any app use any function without your permission . 6: Build quality is great. 7: Finger print scanner works like a breeze. 8: Screen is fantastic. 9: you guys ask anything and i will answer it here.

I wonder I can't post any link I guess! BTW, you can use google chrome and visit meizu chinese website and translate to English. Then go to firmware section and download public version of the firmware. Public or internation version rom contains A at the end of the version Code. Chinese version contains C. 1. Battery Backup seems Good! You should be able to use 12 hours with a single charge for sure! For moderate use it will last 24 hours I guess. 2. For normal browsing or chatting phone won't heat but playing games, installing apps phone get heats on the top part but again that much heat won't be annoying. 3. Hello to all, I watched today MX5 in nearby store (16GB). Well still pretty much Chinese language inside. There is also an upgrade (approx. 780MB) available but it's questionable what happened after eventually upgrade with, in service, posted Google Apps. And also after for example factory reset. Hi Mark, battery seems to be good, havent got the chance to fully test it because still the chinese version. But I can say that charging is really fast, I had MX4 and MI3 before and this is much superior

I know MX4 was quite good in that regard, but I just saw some unboxing video, where MX5 went about 6% of battery down during like 24 minutes, which would amount to 6-7 hours of screen on time... Problem is, it was in airplane mode without a sim and they didnt really do anything demanding (just went through the menu), so I'm worried battery life is gonna suck once you put in the sims and start I dunno, browsing web. Also, how is the pentile screen, is it nice or jagged? Thanks!

All comments regarding overheating are either from bullshitters or people using the phone improperly (i.e. while charging, or with many apps on background seeping battery and power). I have this phone since December - no overheating - at all. I had a chance to play with a G3 (LG) - and that phone made me realize what REAL overheating is - and the MX4 -NEVER- gets to these levels, or even close - of over heating. I'm not saying it's a cool phone - always cold - but I know it's a fine built phone which has no such issues - not for me and not for anyone reviewing it - not anyone I seen at least. It doesn't get to the temps I got with the G3 at a simple MC5 gaming session, even when I took my MX4 to task at a loop of 6 times 3DMark benchmarks, or all GFXbench benchmarks together - or four times in a row Antutu benchmarks - all these instances never got the phone to the level of heat close to that of the G3, during this one 15 minutes or so gaming session. The Meizu MX4 Doesn't overheat - it's not a snapdragon wielding phone to be capable of overheating in the first place, simple as that.

If you are using the phone while charging you should expect a heat no matter brand or chip they are. It is a common sense that do not use a phone while charging but many peoples seems to ignore this and always asking why their phones broke like this and that. This is a user error, period.

Hello, proven and tested that the meizu handsets are prone to heat super heat as to this mx5 model there is no difference from the successor mx4 and mx4 pro that is super heat up when browsing internet to games while charging. Second, keeps freezing and hanging its already octacore but how come it keeps freezing and hanging so you need to force restart the phone. Buy at your own risk do not commit suicide to yourselves and telling me if i only listen to Rain. Dont feel pity for yourselves in the end.

Mediatek uses old cores which is targeted for low budget phones, I have an HTC desire using the 6592 mediatek chipset which lags and have heating issues,just to say that mediatek is not reliable and stable. My HTC has a Mali 450 mp4 gpu which is great for gaming but as the chipset is not stable it is not worth a shot. The Qualcomm Snapdragon processor is reliable and stable. A device clocked at 1.7 octa core for mediatek and another different device powered by a Qualcomm chipset clocked at 1.2 quad core, the performance will be more likely to be the same. But I love Qualcomm chipsets.
