I've had this phone for years lumia 640 LTE. I use it for calling in USA, internationally, I used it in Europe several times, I use it for SMS, picture taking, video, blue tooth in car. In 3+ years I had probably only 10 dropped calls. It is 8.1 windows OS, I upgraded it to windows 10, but lost some functionality and I did not like windows 10, tiles looked weird, so I switched back to 8.1 - this is the best phone there was to me. I never experienced issues with heat or battery drainage. When I charge it, I have plenty of juice next day (I don't play games on it). I absolutely love the windows tiles on it. Blue tooth connects fine in cars and quality calls in cars is very good. The size of the phone is perfect. Pictures are good, nothing extraordinary, but still good. This phone was and still is perfect. Microsoft disabled SMS voice early this year. MS, there are people still using lumias !!! I have MS apps on it which still work. Microsoft app store had one BIG advantage over google app store; you could choose app based on user reviews. Google does not have that !!! Apple's on the other hand wants your credit card info even though you what to download only free app. I have looked for a possible replacement, new iphone or android one, I got google pixel 2, the phone was sucking battery power without me even using it and I had issues pairing it with BT in cars and making BT calls; no 3.5 mm port/jack. I returned the phone, I would never liked it. Apple iphone 5S ; it makes random calls after I call someone, this issue is not only my issue, internet is full of this complain. I could not fix it or find the right solution. I will never like iphone's OS as I don't like mac OS. I am looking at motorola one p30 or nokia 7.1, I have searched for tons of phones out there - android one only, but reading about issues on both phones makes me think 2x. I will be using lumia 640 LTE until it dies. Android phone advice: get phone with "android one" only or you will get a bloatware. Why does samsung and whole pack of manufacturers add MUI's and whatever? Windows phones had never such issues.

Maybe on your Outlook account ? Connect outlook.com from a PC and look at the contact ? Other solution : add your outlook account on another WinPhone. This should load your contact as well.

Spotify runs quite well excepted the Search function ! Very annoying... I advise you to install Deezer to replace it, its a good alternative on the beloved but abandoned WP8.1.

The Facebook app won't work on WP8.1 only in W10m you will need to update the phone... but my advice is to buy another phone with Android or iOS.

Why would anyone want windows 10 on a phone. It was designed for computers and the 8.1 system on lumia 640 was superb. windows 10 for phone seemed to copy all the negative aspects of android. the little 640 is the perfect phone for people who want a phone as a communication device, rather than a plaything. it is simple to use (and to repair) I am just sorry that some of the app support has been withdrawn but if you look carefully there are still alternatives in the store

The phone made its way to my pocket about two years ago and I have been using it eversince. It still works absolutely properly and even faster than the time I had first bought it. I must say that I had a good time using it. Although, It didn't function fine at the first, it got much better thank to the great software support Microsoft provided and still provides even as windows phone aren't a thing anymore. Now I'm buying a new android phone and leaving this phone behind ,this is probably the last comment written on it, and let me tell you that I didn't regret buying this Microsoft device. Thank you Microsoft for making such incredible phones and caring about consumers.

I've been using this phone for 2 years and I must say that it has its pro and cons. Pro: it has a good hardware for its price; good camera, good speakers, the screen is HD 720p with very bright and beautiful colors also very resistant, the battery is pretty decent 2,500 mah, nfc conexion, I mean is not bad at all for its price. Cons: I believe everyone thinks the same, I don't like Windows Phone 10, it's just because it's a very poorly optimized OS, applications crashes everytime, a lot of lag, almost there's no applications in the Microsoft Store, ... If we could install Android on this phone, everything would be different, or at least DEVELOPERS try to spend more time in solving those errors in order to users can be still using this beauty phone.

There are good and bad points.Budget phone with excellent screen and camera, removable battery, long stand by,OneDrive, Excel, OneNote, Office Lens, Word. Outlook is good for both Email,Calendar.Calls are very clear. Windows 10 installation and subsequent updates require 2 - 3 GB of phone memory, meaning moving apps and photos to SD card to allow updates to install. W10 has removed Here maps with choice of male navigation voice (so much for gender equality),FM radio and revised the keyboard with the "Blue" dot, ok when you get the hang of it. Alarm clock still does not boot up the phone. And Driving Mode with in Car Bluetooth is a farce, there isn't a Hands Free Auto Answer. All Nokia Bluetooth phones have that function, the program as provided is not road legal, you have to touch phone to Answer a call which is breaking the law. So, good and not bad points

This phone works perfectly..no problems whatsoever...gets regular updates etc... and is by the way one of the safest operating systems....Good camera, screen, excellent loudspeaker, 4g connectivity...What else do you want from so moderately priced phone...? I am reading some comments here and just could not believe..are we talking about the same phone....????

BEST REVIEW EVER! This thing (sorry, I can't call this a phone) is less useful than a brick or a metal plate to carry around. I mean, both, brick and metal plate atleast do what you are expecting them to do and what they are made for, unlike this thing. Also they would be much less frustrating, and can even be used as a weapon in self defense situation, and possibly save your life, unlike this thing.

Had to use this thing at work because company didn't had better phones (they didn't want to pay much). And this is absolute frustration at it's finest. Ugly interface, then apps... its a list, so it takes you forever to find something. Bugs with Bing search, crashings of more or less all apps. Home button directly under space button on keyboard, so you keep exiting from app whenever you are texting, and it takes this phone FOREVER to load anything - especially Whatsapp. Cheap plastic body, clicking sounds from phone while you use it, bad screen, bad camera, bad speakers... most trustrating phone I ever used. Would not reccomend this or any other Windows phone to anyone. Yeah - it also lacks apps...

Best phone for its time, hard to let go just for its speaker quality. Tried to switch over to a Samsung phone, but the speaker quality was POOR, so stayed with the Lumia 640,far superior quality. Only glitch is when upgraded to Windows 10,has slowed the phone somewhat. Other wise a fantastic phone for the price.

If you have made the mistake of purchasing this phone thinking it would be like your old Nokia and that you could integrate it with your PC using PC Suite and use USB tethering, and that you would have tech support, think again. Don't get this phone!!! When using internet explorer, it reloads page repeatedly. When using apps, it sometimes goes back to home page or menu without command. It deletes emails. When watching videos, it cancels out until you have to reload the page. When using Facebook Messenger, you can't receive and make calls. The keyboard is sometimes nonresponsive and autocorrect goes in and out while typing. It's been a headache since I got this phone.

Windows phone is simply awesome! If you ate not technically equiped with the OS, you will continue to complain. It is simply the best. Windows 8.1 has no voice recorder and flashlight but you can get them by upgrading to wndows 10 if you have a minimum ram of 1GB.

The problem is with you not the phone. Go confacts settings and change the dislplay options you have selected and your contact names will appear normal. For other complains just use the internrt and get answers to your problems. Windows phone is not like android where any one at all can just pick and fill comfortable. You need to acquire some skills to master the phone

My 640 Lumia is terrible. If a new contact has 2 words they get reversed in the address book. I deliberately reverse my 2 word entries now so that they'll be correct in my contact list. Really dumb software. Also, things just randomly disappear e.g. the camera icon (and all camera functionality) just morphed itself into 2 different icons requiring downloads that can't be accomplished. Downloading apps is a joke as phone indicates nothing, and the app seems to just disappear somewhere in the phone. I tried to fix things with an upgrade but I could go for a weekend away in the time the download takes. And (of course) all issues developed after the warranty expired. Nokia had a good name before they sold their soul to Microsoft.

Love my nokia 640lte. Coupled with my laptop wonderful. Take a photo and it comes up automatically on laptop. Have had no problem whatsoever.Don't see any point in purchasing new phone .

Had no problem this far.. Windows 10 absolutely great, no charging problem, since I update it to win10, I do updates as it is available. I am happy with my phone. And my pc and laptop is on the same update with no hassels at all

It supports 4G data but doesn't support VoLTE for Indian carriers so on Jio you can only use data and can't make calls. Better use Airtel 4G, Idea 4G and Vodafone Supernet 4G if you use this phone, both calls and 4G-LTE data works on these networks.

Been using this phone as a daily driver since October 2015, Having only ever ran into a few issues I've had generally a good experience,having moved from the Samsung note 3 PROS Compact,Great battery life,Cortana ( getting notifications both on desktop and on phone a big help) UWP Cons 1 gig ram. Where this is noticeable are apps like Facebook,takes a little while to load and multi tasking is a pain. Lack of developers which is a shame Can have the occasional hiccup but no worse then android. All in all would recommend this phone if your not totally app dependant

Hi. I bought Lumia 640 LTE half year ago. It worked very well vithout any problem. Week ago I upgraded it with Win 10 mobile from Win 8.1 update 2. After upgrade to Win 10 I faced a problem with messages. I was unable to send SMS to people in my adresbook. There is a lot of Internet sites concerning that problem. But I continued to update Win 10 mobile with newest updates, and after updates my Lumia 640 in working like charm. I connected Lumia to upgrade with Wi-Fi mobile hotspot in my laptop. Don't know if cellular connection works well to upgrade. Now my Lumia is wery nice phone with long battery endurance.

I used 540 previously, and one thing that I like most of 540 was map and gps that work without internet connection, wich is very useful if we are travelling abroad. Too bad that I lost my 540 on one of my trip. So I bought this 640 lte as replacement, new one was not available so I bought used one. Alas,...the (used) one that I bought is at&t version so I cannot use indonesian 4g network. however, it turn out that I found one app which is very interesting, which is motion data and healt & fitness. now I can track how many steps I walked during the day and even the path that I took for walk. And best of all I can have it without activating internet connection.

Been using the Lumia 640 LTE for 1 complete year. Started with factory's W8 and the experience after upgraded to W10 is even better (smoother and longer battery life). Been traveled and enjoyed the LTE speed with it to various countries in past 1 year. Not sure if some users found it challenging with Windows mobile as I read so many having bad experience. Mine was very pleasant since the Lumia 525 I started with. Most will find the biggest shortfall of Windows mobile was the number of apps in the Store. If selection of apps is your priority, stay away from Windows mobile. It has almost all the apps I need and all work flawlessly so far even with its 1GB RAM. Been using iOS and Android, but prefer Windows mobile as it has the security + reliability of iOS and flexibility of the Android.

I bought 2 lumia 640 XL phones for my wife and myself. I kept the non-LTE phone while she chose the LTE handset. I got super frustrated with mine in a month with so many bugs. Network will freeze, whatsapp ll crash, Calls wont come through etc etc. Basically everything that requires a network wont respond. Worst part is you will still see signal bars on the screen and wont be able to figure out if the signal is there or actually gone. Good enough to be a paperweight. I did all stuff like getting a class 10 memory card, using un-cut sims, factory resetting. Even tried using only mobile network and not using wi-fi. rebooting ( hard reboot ) atleast 15 times a day...Super frustrating experience . So i got rid of it and switched to a blackberry. At least i recieve and make calls withou having to reboot the phone every time. My wife continued with the lumia 640 XL LTE. Whatsapp doesn't work. Facebook doesn't work. She also didn't know that her fone's signal goes missing every now and then until she missed some job interview calls. We also tried all solutions we could come across such as upgrading the windows, upgrading memory card, changing sims, using only mobile network etc. I am planning to gift her a oneplus3 for our wedding anniversary. The whole microsoft phone experience was nightmarish

The Microsoft Lumia 640 LTE is a thoroughly great phone. Even after the Windows 10 upgrade. Yes I did have some issues with the phone heating up and such when I initially upgraded to Windows 10 but, a quick session with a B2X support technician and all problems have been resolved. The phone functions stupendously to date. Thank you Microsoft.

After a long experience with android I tried this Lumia 640 and found it much cooler in almost everything: device quality, windows smooth operation, great touch, strong build device, great sound and speaker, great 8MP camera and video, a battery that lasts at least 3 days, great WiFi reception, anti-scratch face, beautiful colors high res screen, very nice fully customizable live tiles not found in IOS or android, more than enough apps in store and other, and most importantly it does not download updates by force like android. It's truly a very reliable device that is so nice to carry around and operate at an incredible price.

I was an Android user for years, and decided to try iOS - reluctantly. I ended up loving it (although I have no preference between the two - I like them equally). I then decided to give Microsoft's mobile experience a try. Biggest mistake of my life! This device is sluggish, apps crash constantly (not only third party apps, MS apps also), their app store is tiny (although I was aware of this before getting the device). The general experience has been truly awful - I cannot wait to get my new Android device this week so that I can burn this phone. I wouldn't even give it away to anyone - IT'S THAT BAD. There are many entry level Androids available in the same price bracket with similar specs that perform 10x as well. Even an old iPhone 4 performs better than this thing. Get this device if you're fond of regret.

I put my first one into the washing machine but liked it so much, replaced it with one from China. Took so long to arrive I then bought another as a spare. Using battery saver and no auto updates or background apps, battery lasts 4 days. Didn't like what Windows 10 did to Office (can't create tile shortcut to specific Excel spreadsheet) so reverted to 8.1 Great value and OneDrive integration makes it a valuable tool.

This is the best phone I've owned in a long time. I was a longtime Android user from version 2.2–5.0. I tried the iPhone about 3 years ago and ended up selling it 6 months later and switched back to Android. Well last year I decided I wanted something different and decided to try a Windows Phone. The 640 came with Windows Mobile 8.1 and I easily upgraded it to Windows 10. It's been a real joy for me because I'm a fan of the Windows 10 operating system on my work machines so integration was flawless between the two. If you are an avid user of Microsoft applications (Office, Outlook, Skype, OneDrive) then you will love it. If not stick to something else. After almost a year of using this phone I have come to the conclusion that Microsoft designed this as a work phone, it's main strength is productivity. I am able to work in Office, drop files to Dropbox, open PDF's and there's even a Photoshop app that allows me to edit photos. That's why I love it so much. It's not meant to be a gaming phone. I will also note that the camera on this is excellent. My friends have played around with it and always mention how great the camera is and how nice pictures come out.

I tried installing the anniversary update many times, even after many uses of the Windows recovery tool that install the factory rom Windows 8 that Lumia came with, and every, EVERY time Windows 8.1 works great but Windows 10 anniversary update makes the phone unusable! The Windows 10 anniversary update is the worst I have ever seen on any phone, including Androids...!

The phone itself works great, very responsive and reliable. I've had it about nine months and have been very happy with it. But whatever you do, keep these on WP 8.1. WP 10 is a complete disaster, ruins your battery life and breaks several of what few useful apps are available for the platform. I tried it and ended up having to roll it back in less than a week because it more or less turned it into an unreliable dumbphone with poor battery life (I normally get 48-72 hours on a full charge depending on how much Web access I do, but it could run down in a day on 10.).

I did reset my Lumia 640 and reinstall all the apps after the anniversary update, but Edge still totally sucks, crash constantly and restarts my phone! I never had this many problems before the anniversary update, and almost no problem at all when I was on Windows Phone 8.1!

Got the AT&T 640 go phone from BB for $25. Took a few days for AT&T to complete the unlock request. Hard to beat the price/feature of this phone. Everything seems to run pretty fluid. Big plus is the on board GPS and map storage, does not consume any data from my carrier. Photos are automatically uploaded to one drive.

I've never had more problems than I do with this Windows phone. I really want to get rid of this and go back to an android. Windows OS is awful. It change settings itself. Again I now have to have a pin number to receive my email. I didn't know I had to have one, it will leave an app I'm using and go back to the main screen. This phone will lag when using the browser. There are so many other things wrong with this phone there's just too much to write. I would never recommend this phone to anyone. Lumia 640 LTE

I got the Lumia 640LTE and so far is the best choice I ever make! Even got it with windows 10 works perfect, I'm so glad that I turn over to windows. The speed is by far better than 90% of the android phones! If you want a stable and excellent phone I highly recommend Microsoft Lumia 640.

Have been using 640 for almost 2 years. Majority of it with 8.1. After recent upgrade to 10 there were so many problems I just shut phone off and put sim in my old Galaxy SIII. Wow feels like its a new phone next to the Lumia. Been using Windows for years and regretted every update they ever put out. They never test or listen to the public. Not saying the other OS giants are much better but willing to jump ship and go elsewhere.

If your microsoft lumia phone battery drains fast, try the following. Remove the battery from the phone leave for about 20minutes for it and the phone to cool down completely. Put the battery back and make sure you use the battery until the phone says "Battery is critically Low" then charge it while Data and wifi is OFF, dont use the phone while charging. When Full Unplug and use your phone. Remember to disable unnecessary background processes.

Don't upgrade to win 10. Tried it twice and had to go to service centre due to software problem caused by the upgrade. Service centre have stated, do not try and upgrade as win 10 is too unstable.They have had so many problems with this and with the 640 that they are all fed up....

@CyberWarrior63 get and you can choose which versions you want, for stability, I suggest "slow ring" I run the fast ring version of 10 on my Metro PCS LTE Model. The only Issue I had was cellular data didn't work, then I factory restored it (after upgrading) and all is fine now.

Windows phone has more out-dated apps and is easier to break but its much faster. and with windows 10 you can connect it to almost everything with yer microsoft account but if you want a work phone its pretty good or if you want a causal phone you should stick with android. After first update, check your internal memory. If you can free 1.5 gb then go for download. After update you can do a hard reset and update all apps to win10. Then i think your all problems will be solved.

I have updated my lumia 640 ds with upgrade advisor. The update was about 2-2.5 GB for this u have to free up space from internal memory and then your phone will be updated within some time but after this update another update came of size 740 mb and problem is that I don't have enough internal space to download the update. So is it worth to download it? And secondly my mobile is some what lagging many apps open and crash battery draining fastly and even I m using Microsoft charger then also when I charge my phone every time message appears that use charger given by company and battery is charging slowly . so plz tell me should I update my phone or format it first and then update. It made the phone so much better. Camera is good, the OS is solid. I just wish more apps were available for the Windows 10 systems on the phones

After windows 10 update phone looks smoother than before. There is no fast battery draining problem, you can have one day battery backup with internet surfing and moderate use. Everything looks cool in windows 10. Whenever you install win 10 updates ,shareit application starts crashing so you have reinstall it then it will work fine...Live photos looks cool in win 10..I am using lumia 640 lte I didnt face any issue..Everything works fine..Received a latest win 10 update on july 12..Love to use win 10 in my lumia 640 lte..

I "upgraded" to W10 on this phone and it's my strong recommendation to not do it. It was a nightmare. First, it lost all my contacts during the upgrade even though, at one point, it said it was transferring data. I freaked out at first, but was glad to find they were backed up in cloud. Then, once W10, all app icons were more closely crammed together than before. I also found it very difficult to navigate the settings. A tone I liked to use for recognizing one of my email accounts was replaced by another. All other tones remained. Some others were new. Also, I hated the email list layout. Just awful. Small text for the subject line. Was almost indistinguishable from other messages. I tried for about a week to get used to it, but I couldn't. Reverted back to 8.1 (surprised but glad they let you) and am happy again. Don't upgrade to Windows 10 Mobile, and don't buy a phone that might already have it installed!!

Moving from Android Marshmallow, I found this phone have great apps organised, stable and didn't take much time to learn settings, especially when it runs windows 10. Battery is up to 2 days for medium use. Windows 10 is not matured but it will get there soon. My really question is how long Microsoft will continue to support this phone since I really like it.

I have no battery issues on this phone. It lasts far longer than others who have Iphones or Droids. I get through at least 1.5 days per charge in a low service area which means it is constantly looking for better signal. In a good service area I could get 2 days of normal usage.

But note that this is using 3G as the max connection speed. 4G is a battery killer (check this out on the Web) and reduces my 640's battery life to a day on average. 4G only to be used if you need the speed - most times you won't.

I have updated to Windows 10 more than a month ago and it works almost perfectly, the only thing I would like to have improved is the data usage app, the live tile does not always update, so it reads incorrect values, you need to open the app to see the correct values. And the FM reception of my favorite station is rather poor, not for other stations though. One can't have everything in this life, I guess 😊. Anyways, it's a pleasure to have this device at hand

Performance is terrible, keyboard sometimes not working, internet also, camera sometimes crushed and when I take a picture, saving are too long, almost 2 min.. No web page icons and no way to pin individual Office documents. So reverted to 8.1 So think twice before upgrading Windows. For all the owners of the 640 AT&T - GoPhone... better head to XDA to see the unbrand tutorial, since this AT&T version don't have the W10m update and probably won't get it for a good amount of time perhaps months... or never. Flashing it with the Argentina ROM or the Latin America CV ROM should be enough to get W10m update and keeping most LTE bands.

hi Anonymous. If your usb isn't recognized anymore, you can install on your PC the official "windows device recovery too" from the microsoft page. After starting the application on your PC, choose "my phone wasn't detected". After this, a window will appear, listing some mobile companies. Plug in your phone and wait so the software detects it and sugests you to install the last official software (meaning 8.1 for your device). Wait for the instalation to complete and don't disconnect your phone during this step.

"Messaging" under "System" Turn ON all option (Yes, I really meant ALL OPTION) Then I've restart my phone and asked my wife to send me one short message through the SMS/Messaging app and I've heard the sweet sound of SMS/Messaging and what a beautiful site seeing the message on my phone lock screen. And finally the "Messaging" is shown in the "Notification and actions" (after restarting). Then I reverting back a few setting after solving the issue and the SMS/Messaging notification still works 1. "Lock screen" under "Personalization" I've changed it back to "Whatsapp" 2. "Messaging" under "System" Disable all the options under the "SMS/MMS" Hope this solution will work for you phone as well.

If you are not too picky about different applications i think this set is the best out there. Its touch is like cream. Camera is way better than 8mp of other brands. Games run very smoothly and flipping between apps is like turning pages. My use is normal and battery timing is fantastic. 50% for 28 hours. I am very satisfied with my purchase. Highly recomended.

Thanks a lot 'exec'. I've followed your instructions and disabled few LTE bands. Situation is better now. However, I've found that there are only 4 WCDMA bands B1,B3,B4 and B5. I am assuming AT&T disabled other modes/bands in their ROM. Also I guess one GSM band is missing too. Do you know how can I set up/ modify the ROM to get these other missing bands back? Also the code for the hidden menu is ##3282# , not ##3828#..... :P. Your english is good, no worries...

AT&T Lumia 640 ROM disable "highest connection speed", from phone settings. Maybe is the problem with LTE 4G/3G network coverage, and by default all LTE bands are ENABLED in at&t Lumia 640. If you want to turn off some bands (to have only 3G or 2G connection for better signal strength), you must enter code for hidden menu: ##3828#, accept, tap on free dots in lower right corner, settings, network select manual,then check the following: (Or you may select only one on this bands):GSM DCS 1800, E GSM 900, P GSM 900, GSM 850 , GSM PCS 1900 - this is for 2G... For 3G is: . B1-WCDMA 900,B8-WCDMA E/J 2100 or WCDMA 1800. Sorry for bad English :D

I bought Lumia 640 as AT&T go phone but got the unlock code from them. After unlocking I inserted my sim which is from Lycamobile ( they use T-Mobile network). But there is a problem with the network. I notice that the phone goes out of the service/ network in every 25-30 seconds and remain there for 3-5 seconds. There is no problem with Lycamobile network in my area as I am currently using Moto G 2nd generation without any issue. Anyone knows what the problem might be and what can I do? FYI: The phone is in win 8.1. I already bought 2 of them and both behave the same, so they are not defective for sure.

3 months using this 640 LTE in Indonesia. Just 4 days ago join Windows Insider and updated to Windows 10 Mobile with the latest update (.164). All went smoothly. Thats not an official update from Microsoft but it tastes like its official update. Battery's running very good obviously. Highly recommended. Hope the official update will be much much better.

Been using the Lumia 640 LTE for almost a week now. And all I can say is that it's totally worth the money. Camera ir pretty amazing for the price, the speaker is pretty loud and the internal memory is enough for me, and a big plus is that you can add a SD card. The 4G network signal is pretty strong too, sometimes it drops in some places, but mostly it's good. The Snapdragon's 400 performance is also amazing, I can play games like: Asphalt 8, Modern Combat 5, Dungeon Hunter V etc, with some frame drops here and there, but it's quiet satisfing. And the front facing (selfie) camera and it's 0.9MP is dam* good too, well, in lower light conditions it makes some imaging noise, but not too bad. The display is quiet high quality and the out-door visability is good, but could be a bit better. In one words, for early 2016 it's a very good phone for daily use and if you are still thinking to buy it, sure go ahead. And if you want some Android applications on this Lumia just use Windows Insider and install Windows 10 Preview build and you can easily install Android APPS trought your PC easy as pie.

i have both. preferred 635 size, but since 640 has flash, larger ram, and front camera, the little bit of extra size is worth it. i got mine at wal-mart for $47, plugged my Cricket sim card in, and it started right up. it's fast, and unlike android, microsoft lets you install 90% of your apps on an sd card. i have 100's and still have 800 mb ram. so if the flash and front camera aren't a big deal to you, you'll love the comfortable size of the 635.

hello. i installed version 10 on my laptop, and a lot of the laptop features didn't work - ability to turn the touchpad on/off, keyboard backlights wouldn't work. NONE of the function keys worked. I reinstalled windows 7 and will try again in a few months. I'd suggest trying 10 on your laptop. If it works, and you like it, then put it on your phone.

Sorry to hear that you are having all those problems but if you have Windows 10 then i'm gonna assume that you have installed the preview version because as far as i know the oficial update for Windows 10 mobile for the lumia 640 became avaliable yesterday for the first time and only in some specific countries so with that being said its your fault for installing a preview version. Im using the lastest preview build on my lumia 640 and its almost flawless so i dont know why you are having so many problems...Anyway you can allways roll back to Windows 8.1 using Windows Phone Recovery Tool. Hope that helps

When my Lumia got the same update: 1. Cortana ceased to vocally announce incoming message and give me the option to reply. 2. The ability to maintain Quiet Hours vanished. 3. I lost the ability to resize the tiles on my home screen and they don't fit like they used to. I remain with Windows phones because "they just work" (as they always say about iPhones). The Lumia 640 is my 2nd Windows phone. I have a computer background and find the Windows phone to my likings. I have read that people without a good knowledge of computers will not like a Windows phone. My phone updated to Windows 8.1 and I had not problems with that update. Just 2 weeks ago I thought I was just ok'ing a simple update but instead my phone updated to Windows 10. Hmm, I love a challenge when it comes to a computer and this upgrade has been one challenge after another. If you are thinking about upgrading I would recommend waiting a bit longer. Here are just a few things that I have come across; for starters, not all my contacts were saved. I first tried to recover them from my Sims card which said there were no contacts on my Sims card, (Hmm). I updated them from my Google BU and my Windows live account. The Pics I had added to my friends CallerID's were mixed up. Some were right and some had wrong Pics and other were dropped. (Hmm, how did that happen). The biggest complaint would be Messaging. Using it for the first time it mentioned something about using Skype for Messaging. Just sending a message has been fine, but the first time I tried send a picture (MMS) message I kept getting "Couldn't send, try again". I called my Tech team at Cricket and was on the phone for over an hour resetting the settings to no avail. Finally I said I would stop in at a Store and again, over an hour and they went through all the same re-setting to no Avail. The 3rd Tech I had to ask her why she thought she had the Super Touch that the previous 2 Tech's failed with? She replied with "trust me". Hmm, before I could say, "I told you so", she hung up on me and logged my call as, "problem solved". N-O-T..... I am the one that finally got it to send a picture message. I was fooling around with all the many system settings and must of turned on the right settings. I can send a picture message now BUT only if I am using my WiFi connection. The Cellular Service can not be turned on, just WiFi.. I can wait to stop in at the store and have them try and explain the reasoning behind this. How pictures are shown (duplicates are combined) as 1, at first I was confused. Was it on my phone, SD card or Onedrive. Found by scrolling 3 screens over I found the folders and then could locate actually where the picture was stored. This is probably partially my fault since I created folders within the main Pictures folders to sort out the business pics and personal pics. Personal folders into family and friends folders. At least I can admit something that I caused as a problem. I totally love the start screen, lock screen and all the live and non live tiles. My screen is totally a live with tiles that flip, tiles that scroll through 9 pictures, personalized tiles for apps and have logo's pinned to them for all my favorite web sites. The new browser, "Edge" I go from liking to not liking. Not sure why after setting up "Quiet Hours" when someone sent me someone's phone number I received the msg saying, "download content" and then couldn't retrieve it and got the message saying, "Couldn't get message during Quiet hours". Hmm, why not after Quiet hours then?. I had them resend and then I got it with Icon saying, "Contact Info", after I clicked on it I got msg saying, "need app from store". I clicked on yes to search store and have not been able to figure out how to show what the contact info actually is. I get .X-Vcard. I know what that type of file is but why doesn't the phone know? I'm not ready to throw in the towel and demand reverting my phone back to Windows 8.1 yet. I love a challenge but not too sure if others will feel the same way. This is just a heads up for anyone wondering about Windows 10 on their phone.

I have the phone for a little whiule and it's great, good pictures, good performance. the battery lifes last if i turn of wi-fi for like 4-5 days whitout any problems' i don't understands why some users have problem. i use the phone for everything, for walking and see where i am and places around, for everithing. it's the best phone on battery life. if doesn't charge in 3 hours then you need a new charger. whit wi-fi and used 16/24 hours it's lasting whitout any charging in 16 hours.

I find it a big large for an average phone, sometimes pixels look funny if that makes sense. Personally I prefer 4.5 size for one handed. I thought battery life would be 2-3days but i charge nightly still so bit of a pain. I also like about 5 -8 tiles on screen, with this size i have to fill up like lots more tiles and it makes me a bit ocd LOL

So I just bought this phone just to have from AT&T Go Phone. First off, I love the design. Very handsome black. The display is very bright. The processor is smooth considering it's a small spec. Actually runs very smooth like iOS. It has almost every app on the Microsoft Store but missing a few that are in iOS and Android. Music player with music EQ sounds great! Camera takes decent pictures, not great thought, but not bad either. The tiles are live and awesome!! My first windows phone and I'm loving it!! And yes, I use a Micro SD Card with 32GB. Only thing is that it doesn't have options to buy movies TV shows or music like iOS or Android do. BlackBerry and Microsoft are stuck haha but it's cool

Sadly, Utorrent is not present in Windows Store. There aren't the same apps like in Play Store, but you can find different apps that are having the same effect. And yes, you can download movies using this torrent apps. Peace!

Pros: -For an Snapdragon 400 and 1GB Ram this phone doesn't lag at all. I've seen Android phones with Octa Core processors (from mediatek) and 2GB ram that are lagging more. -You can install the windows store apps, the apps updates, music, videos, basically everything on your SD Card. So that 3.5GB free from 8GB on internal memory are not an issue. -Good HQ and loud sound in calls. -Good display for the price, for me good pixel density (no match tho for an Amoled one or QHD display, but this is another story). -Good operating system, clean, simple, lag free, much like an IOS device. Cons: -Average battery life ( I don't know why really, but it looks like this for me). Sadly average charger capabilities and without USB connection (it comes in package with an 750mA one). So you need another cable for connection with PC/laptop. -Same old problem with the windows store apps. You can find in general what you're looking for, but just isn't like AppStore and Play Store. And in most cases are similar apps in windows store, not the original ones..is not necessary a very bad thing, but is there. I came from Android (phones and tablets) and IOS (Ipad mini) devices. My first smartphone was a Nokia Lumia 710, and i decided to give another try to windows mobile..hope not to regret it :) P.S. But, if you get passed this cons, and for the price (I payed around 150 euros in my country for it), is a good phone, for now. In this price range you can't find a better Android phone (believe me I've tried and failed, including chinese ones=big fail). Peace!

Most apps on windows phone are sandboxed, so they cannot save files outside of themselves. This means the size of the application will be bigger (thats how the data saved), and you cant acces the downloaded data evrywhere else, just in the app. For file transfer you can use your data cable or a cloud app like dropbox or onedrive.

Hello. I am disappointed with the quality of images. When framing the picture is good (on screen). After taking a photo image quality is terrible, without details. Skin color is awful. Mine is a T-Mobile prepaid but used on a monthly contract (the only way to get one on their network...T-Mo sux!!!) The phone itself is pretty good, but has plenty of times where notifications don't come through (calls, voicemail, Viber!!!) and 99% of the time Viber only works on WiFi, and since I don't have a home internet service (I use internet sharing), it makes Viber TOTALLY useless on this phone. Viber worked great on my old Android, but I want to get away from G$$gle everything, and so I switched to Windows, but the loss of Viber Really has me regretting the switch!!! I've tried everything, including a very painful complete reset, and still no GSM Viber. I do sometimes get the Viber alert telling me that a particular person sent me a Viber...but rarely does the Vibe actually show up in the notifications pull-down OR in Viber itself, save for the occasional few hours or so after I've been on a trusted WiFi network. Mostly like the phone and its features, but really Piss#d off that Viber doesn't work. Help!!!

This phone with windows 10 is amazing. runs very smooth :O For the price you get a lot of phone. If you want to check out windows 10 mobile without shelling out much cash, this is the phone to get (at least for now) It has micro sd card support and removable battery, which i consider a major boon (so hard to find these days).

i dont have 640...but i m using 430 lumia. to me eventhough my lumia 430 is low spec.... dual core qualcomm 200 with 1 gig ram it run so smoothly. screen resolution yeah just fine. difficult to read under sunlight. but just for 200 ringgit for me it is ok. for whatsapp you cant clear message with single click like android phone. hopefully the developer will update it so we can have nice experience like our android colleague. i love wp ( this is my first time using wp) i had use multiple android phone... to me if you want trouble free phone in android you need to buy flagship with good processor and ram. with 200 ringgit android phone i dont think can beat lumia 430. wp is a good phone for budget concern people like myself.

I got Lumia 640 from flipkart a month ago. its user friendly and performance was very good, unfortunately it fell down from my hand. I reached out to all most all nokia care service centers in chennai. They confirmed that my device's motherboard has to be changed and they dont have motheboards as this device is not in sale in nokia stores and available only for online sale. So guys in my opinion mobile is good worth for money but service is poor.

try force restart, not battery removal, but just force restart. Keep power button and volume button pressed for 15 seconds. it will force shutdown and restart. You will loose only the date and time. quickly fixed by your network if automatic timing is enabled

Why only 1 GB of RAM ? Because you can install apps on the SD Card, which is not possible in android. Why only 8 MP for the rear camera ? Because MP are just numbers, they're not a good indicator of the actual image quality, to be clear the 8 MP camera you find in the lumia can capture pics sharper then cameras pretending to be 13 or 16 MP. Anyway, as long as you won't print them, your photos will look great whatever resolution is your camera. Said shortly, manufacturers are obliged to make concessions to keep the price at a low level, don't forget that this is not a flagship, it's only a mid-range model.

I have a lumia 640 Lte locked at the screen under 28w osram cfl and indeed if you look careful (with the screen turned off) you can see light lines, probably the structure of the screen, pixels and all, so I think it's normal.

Had an android phone before, was very sluggish and annoying. Windows phone runs very smooth no lag, no crash, very fast gps signal reception, great factory gps that also works offline, very big screen compared to phone size, and very happy with the battery.Only downside is in windows market there are less aps than in google play store.

The Lumia 640 is by far better than the 540 in many concerns, first the 540 doesn't have Gorilla Glass Protection which is really sad as the 535 had it. Second, you've got a faster and newer processors on the 640. Third, it has 4G connectivity which is not available in 540. Finally, the 640 is able to record 1080P Video, whereas in the other device you're limited to 480P. Anyway, the difference in terms of price is not that much so I advice you to go for 640.

yes, every lumia fone can transter all mb into sdcard. no jeed to worry about fone memory. heavy grafit game like asphalt 8 need to satay in fone memory coz it's have a little lag when move into sdcard. make sure to use sd card no.10 or 12.

Phone is great!! Best os out there. One hint don't ever turn on narrator it will lock up phone. Also pin settings to tiles main screen so if phone is locked you can access settings.

Built quality - This phone feels light and flimsey. However it is robust enough to take a could of drops onto a concrete floor, with no damage so far. Ive only just paid attention to how the back feels because Im writing this, so it cannot be bad. OS - Seems good. I am not a fan of windows, however this does what I want it to do with no fuss what so ever. Camera - Takes good shots and quickly. You do end up with Harry Potter style moving pictures which I don't know how to disable yet. Sound - Very important feature for me as I listen to my bands setlist when at work and home. Speakers are very good and Ive just discovered the EQ settings. Handles Spotify well. Very good phone and highly recommended.

it is good i have had it for about a week now so far it feels smooth no lag what so ever nice screen for the price 720p so its gonna be sharp and if you get one color you could always order a different color battery back cover of the lumia 640 for around 8 bucks on ebay i got a white phone because my carrier only had that color so i ordered a black battery case easy its a steel for your buck i say you should get if it might be one of the best phones thats not to so expensive the camera is good as well.

Does anyone have issues with the wifi locking up the phone with some routers. i dont know if my phones wifi is messed up and should i return it? or if its a firmware issue? If you like to click lots of selfies... Gofor Lumia 735.. Lumia 735 has a good Front facing camera and primary camera is also good it has a carl ziess lance.. Lumia 735 display is oled display which is slightly better than IPS.. So if you want a Lumia with good display and good primary and front facing cameras.. I say go with Lumia 735.. But if you like big screen phone gofor Lumia 640.. Its battery life is better than Lumia 735 and Camera is good too but its front facing camera is not good for selfies.. Also in my opinion Lumia 735 has better looks.. But Lumia 640 got better colour options.. If you want a good looking phone with best display at this price range and both good cameras.. Gofor Lumia 735 and if you want a large smartphone with good battery life gofor 640.. :) both have butter smooth performance and both are good buy.. In fact it fits perfectly in my pocket and is easy to read in sunlight. I really don't need or want the 6" screen on the XL as its bulky. Even on these phones without Pureview or Carl Zeiss it has an outstanding camera better than other cheap phones. If I want Carl Zeiss I will purchase a good stand alone digital camera. As long as this phone has 8.0 MP a 0.9 MP Front Facing Camera and Flash it will fit my travel needs unless I need professional optics. Microsoft gives the user so many options that one could ask for. Its a mid level phone and has excellent sound quality and good Wifi Calling. When you travel abroad just activate roaming by entering #RON# on your dialpad and go into settings SIM and ensure Data Roaming is set to on. If you need to turn roaming off in non supported Simple Choice Countries enter #ROF# on the Dialpad to avoid any additional costs.

very good screen, very good camera, very good sound, speedy phone and OS, good battery life (far better than android or ios on the same screen/processor) and it is even better considering the price (you get same specs for double the price on android... iphone price is off the chart). the OS not so flexible as android (different but still very functional). the only minus comes from the apps: still some important apps are not on par with their android version: ex. better movie players under android. Conclusion: for business (as i use it) is very good. as for apps you don't necessary don't have one when you need one (especially some apps are just doubling their browser versions and browsing is very good on this phone: linkedin, facebook etc). but if you are looking for an app, android will always have a better or just a nicer one. i don't compare with ios because i just don't like/use it. i use also an android phone. so, i recommend it especially for the price.

Only to Lumia 640 LTE users who have already experienced the phone, Can you please explain if the GPS has any issues? Does it get your location fast? First smartphone,android did not get on with that. Then 4s ,bit better but being oldish with huge fingers not really good. Lumia 640, perfect easy to use and see certainly the smartphone choice for the bewildered, good volume and ring tone. Text swiping a doodle even with sausage fingers, easy to write text. Microsoft really ought to push the ease of use for the ancient, would have saved me a fortune. Kids have all got my old new phones though.

before buying smartphones you need to get the proper information about that. here, there is a lot of difference between android os and windows os. the android os is most successfull than the windows os but not than ios. but if you cant able to afford iphones, then you have two best choice i.e windows and androide. so, androide is very easy, comfortable and it gives too much short cuts which make it best, but it consume too much battery, and it makes the device slow, on some cheap mobile phones androide os hangs the device, but androide can give too much apps and games. windows os is pretty fast, consumes less battery but it cant give sufficiant apps. so, buy the phones depend on your use. As for your needs Microsoft 532 also will be fine. It lack of 4g LTE, but for the price of you pay it is so much. All the social apps working well casual games like subway surfers,temple run and some good graphics games also working fine. Winodws phones are way far better than any other. Simple but powerful.

It's a phone!! I know that you can define an image for the mains screen, but sometimes is makes it difficult to see the icons. But that will change anyway with windows 10 when you will be able to use an image and make the icons slightly transparent to allow the image to "bleed" thfough

hi.It's doesn't work. You can't assign photos as home screen. Only themes that are in the folder preloaded as oppose to Android phones where you can assign photos as home screen image, unfortunately. THat's a big problem with Microsoft Lumia models.

Hello users. now i am using nokia asha 230 a basic phone. I am gonna replace it with a smartphone. After searching a lot of mobiles like LG L Fino, LG F60, Samsung grand prime, MMX doodle 3 and 4, blackberry z3, asus zenfone 5 etc etc..also i used to see nokia products like lumia 625, lumia 535, 540. So finally i get struck in this phone. After seeing its specs and unboxing video on youtube, I would like to stick with nokia (i.e microsoft) again. Its display is awesome. also pixel density too good at 294ppi. It has 4G so i need not to change this mobile for at least next 2 years. The basic need of me is to use social networking like whatsapp, facebook and skype. For that i will use wifi. i rarely play games like temple run and subway surfers. Also wont use so many apps. My friends are using samsung mobiles, in which wifi connectivity is superfast. now my question is, can this mobile use wifi effectively as much as a samsung device can? if your answer is yes with hands on experience, i will definitely go for it. Also one more thing. It comes for 9000 @ flipkart in india. may i order in flipkart(i.e online) or should i go for a showroom piece? it will cost 13K at showroom. Please guide me to get a good first smartphone. sorry for poor english. Thanks you in advance.. :)

After a long long time I finally decided to buy new mobile, my old mobile was galaxy y gts6102. I too had lot of confusion while choosing mobile between Lumia 640, 730, Redmi 4i,lenovo a6000, asus zenfone 2 and moto G all coming in price bracket of 10k-12k. It was hard to choose between all of them but finally I went for this beauty and I'm damn happy that i chose this one! Build quality: The phone is very well built. It's sturdy and feels solid when you hold it in hand, like a flat rock. It's a light weight though. It's curvy edges makes it comfortable to hold in hand and use it. The back cover covers up till mobile screen, giving it a one piece design look. The Microsoft LOGO on it gives it a premium look. Display Display is a plus point of this device. It's the best display in IPS LCD domain. Corning gorilla glass 3 gives it a butter smooth touch while using and I didn't feel to stick a screen guard till now. I compared the display with MOTO G, the white is not real in moto g, it looks washed out, but in 640 it's clear white and it's more evident at high brightness. I compared it with zenfone 2 also and it beats in sunlight readability and brightness adaptation. Its HD screen looks absolutely stunning when viewed directly, Viewing angels are too good till 40-50 degrees from each side but it diminishes as you bend more. No problem at all while playing tilting or racing games. The double tap to wake up works brilliantly in day time when tapped properly but when in dark It takes more than 2-4 taps ,I think it's because it is using proximity sensor. Glance screen works perfectly, It also uses light sensor to detect if you're holding mobile in hand or kept in pocket and displays time and notifications accordingly. When you keep your mobile beside any android phones your mobile looks alive while it displays time, notification led is old, feels great to have something which most of the so called smartphones lack. It play 1080p videos real good, smooth. watching movies or tv shows is great. Battery It has 5 inch screen and a 2500mah battery which is perfect combo if you're a heavy user and don't want the juice to run out at the end of the day or plug your phone to wall as soon as you reach home. At most you'll lose 5% in 20minutes on heavy usage and it clocked 4.4% loss for an hour with 2g or 3g turned, location turned on with frequent chatting, which will easily last for more than 24 hours. Performance Believe me I've seen no hang since I switched on this mobile. I've installed like more than 128 apps with ~30 games, to name a few GT racing(1GB), Six guns, Asphalt 8(1GB), etc etc and it handles all of them very well. Multitasking works with ease. I had opened subway surfer, temple run, cut the rope 2 and hike, switched between them one by one multiple times and all of them resumed where i stopped without any restart, what more do you want? All of that managed in just 1GB RAM Hands down! windows OS handles it far better than android. No need to install any kind of RAM booster, cc cleaner. With no running background apps without user permission, the phone performance takes a leap. With more that 130 apps and games I would show it on their face to whoever says windows phone lacks apps and games! Camera There is nothing much to talk about here. In good lighting condition the rear camera pictures are great but when in low light it suffers with noise. Front camera is too good for skype and selfies only in good light. Call quality is too good and loud. What really annoys me about this mobile. 1) Internet explorer is still amateur, it still requires a lot of improvements. Just waiting for windows 10 update and new edge browser, hope to see the real performance on it. 2) Camera quality in low light and moderate light is too bad, pictures are either either grainy or noisy. But in good light it clicks brilliant image. I'm not much of a camera freak so doesn't matter much. 3)Apps restart once you unlock the phone and go back to recent apps. If you unlock in few minutes it'll not resume but after a long time it just restarts again. Again this is done to reduce power consumption. 4)Phone storage is less, only 3GB available for user which will force you to buy good High speed memory card. When you buy it, it's not even a problem , everything works seamlessly! 5) There is absolutely no easy to use app to lock your private photos or apps, like applock in android. I'm very much in need of this app and i'm still waiting for it to show up on store. With kids corner and apps corner it's manageable but still need an app. PS: Microsoft, a software giant is selling you this phone with their own OS with frequent updates which is the most important thing to think about before buying a smartphone. @ lemon: Yes, navigation is superfast! i have 3G data plan, but is fast enough. A 4G data will be lightning fast ;) BTW the WI-FI is verry good. ...and I have almost 2 days and battery is on 70% with mannualy dezactivated background services, 1,5 hours voice calling and 3-4 hours with wi-fi and data on.

The Here maps application downloads all map data to the phone's main memory. It's not too large, around 700 MB, but I could not find a way to move it to the micro SD card. I hope this is something Microsoft can fix in a future update.

Excellent phone! Great audio quality, extremely nice display, very usable in direct sun.Very good material quality. Main camera is more than i want, perform great, even in low light especially with manual settings! One bad thing on my device: recording video, the image freeze sometimes or sound is muted for a second. Seeing recorded videos on phone seems to be almost ok, but on my desktop appears more freezes and sound muted. IDK why :( Overall is more than i was expected from that phone! PS. The phone send on mail or social networks a low quality pictures or video. For full quality use a USB cable or upload to cloud.

Dont talk nonsense, 640 has other browsers also. It has surfy, uc, ie, opera, maxthon etc. IE and surfy are best for heavy site, they never crashed for me. Also microsofts new edge browser is also coming.

Another BIG problem with Lumia 640 LTE is browsing. You're restricted to use Explorer or may be Opera. The phone has difficulty browsing sites with heavy dashboards. Like Google Analytcs or Moz.com. It keeps flickering and sometimes shutdown.
