This is for me the best phone ever made, there are many phones available and this one got my heart, the Camera is Perfect, the screen is perfect, the touch screen is perfect, the battery last as expected, the sound on the speaker is excellent, the Physical keyboard is excellent, you can drop it a million times and it will always be there for you, apps work without a problem, Runs on 2.3 (Gingerbread) and you do not even notice it, if you want a good phone this is were you should put your money, I am currently waiting for the Droid 2 for my personal use, and I know it will be as great as this one.

I read about and experienced what you've written. it seems that, even though the phone *is* actually unlocked, the 'radio' for the phone is permanently locked by Verizon. Even though it's a Global phone, it won't operate in the US under GSM, only CDMA. That being said, don't bother buying the other XT610 - I have and havge many issues with it, on the T-Mobile network. It's not T-Mo's fault, I can definitely tell you it's the phone. Not getting texts, having to restart because maps freezes, many other apps freeze the phone - I re-start it daily. The "other" XT610 is a world phone, not linked to any carriers - the issue is you won't get any support in the US, nor are there any OS updates available. If you're looking for a 2.2 Android OS (or higher) with a qwerty - I'm afraid we're both out of luck.

I have had the "luxury" of owning the DROID XT610 for almost a year now. My phone is thankfully on a verizon plan. During this time I have had the joy of getting to work very closely with the tech support team, as I have now had every issue that is listed on this forum and many others listed on others. From what they (Verizon tech support) explianed the DROID XT610 was a rushed competitive phone designed to compete against a formative blackberry that was coming out at that point. The phone was released with improper testing and unsuited software. Which is why the phone has alignment issues, backlight problems (i.e. the bright light normally on the lower right corner of the screen). Capicitive touch screen problems, sim issues, gui problems, and much, much more. Verizons best solution is to wait out any contract and upgrade at the first chance. I'm personaly glad I only have 11 more months and then i can dispose of mine. After that I may go to either a SG3 or a xt890 since they are both quad band and have good reputations.

I have ordered Motorola Droid Pro XT610 just some hours back by Ebay India. I was told I would be receiving it within 25 days from today. From what little I understand this phone is more tilted towards GSM, the other look alike XPRT 612 is for CDMA. People should not get confused by reading the same specs. of identical phones. I hope this phone will be money's worth as I am thinking of replacing my Blackberry 8520 which has perhaps the worst, cheap rubberised body for a smart phone.

Yes it can use GSM. You may need to hold the power button for 3-4 seconds, lock the device in flight mode then repower the device on again. Once its running you have to select GSM under the setting menu (settings, wireless & networks, mobile networks, network mode - set to GSM/UMTS) don't forget to set the "allow GSM data" otherwise your Twitter, Facebook and other apps may not work correctly.

It is the ONLY Android phone with a usable screen and inbuilt proper QWERTY. The new Fire has a much smaller screen with little better resolution (who wants to carry a microscope. Can't stand slide out or virtual boards. OK It is a Verizon, but with input from Motorola will adapt to Australia - not officially available here. Just updated to ANDROID VERSION 2.3.4 automatically with disastrous results at first but settled overnight no idea why. Great fiddle to get it to link to USB on XP but Motorola have a great site for drivers, still many hours of mucking around but worked. To synch with M. Outlook 2000 + buy Companionlink and Dejaoffice. Well worth it. Again bit of a fiddle but worth it in the end. Good support. If only everything were as simple as my Treo 650 which I will bury with honours. Charging contact faulty and Sim Tray fractured.

You can manually update to v2.3.6 with Argentinian ROM but if you need root like me, don't do that as there is no way Gingerbread version can be rooted :-(.

Hey MOTO fans, I like this piece so much except for one thing, CAMERA. First of all, I am from Egypt so I won't be able to hold this amazing piece in my palm for a pretty long time. great phone, been using it everywhere i go. been to US, Asia and the Middle East using different sim cards. 3G and all functions are working except for skype mobile which you need a verizon data. QWERTY is a quite hard to use at first but after a while you get used to it, better than touch screen key. Great phone, for me its better than iphone4

Just curious, did you ever use the video call function on any Motorola phones from 2004 to 2009? Motorola "used to" offer such feature, but almost nobody used it. Then Mr. Jobs came out with so called "Face Time" and all of the sudden people start to "talk" about video call...which is a 6 years old tech for Moto. All these years did you ever use video call? Great phone have been using it for a double of weeks now. Only minus which is a big minus is the ridiculously bad battery. This is supposed to be a phone butnafter a couple of hours of making a few calls and searching the web it's dead. I have a charger at home in the office and in the car but that is not a solution. Hate walking around with the charger in my hand. I don't care how amazing a phone is if the battery is weak then then phone is useless. Great phone shame about the lousy battery life. This phone makes the iphone battery which is not great seem amazing.

As sold, the phone is locked to be used only with 1. Verizon's USA non-GSM service and 2. GSM services provided by Verizon's overseas services. An unlock code that was provided to me by the vendor (WElectronics) got it to work with my provider here in Pakistan (and I am told will work anywhere - EXCEPT the GSM networks of USA based providers like AT&T and TMobile).

"locked" phone means it is exclusive only to a specific service provide, so other SIM card cannot be used in that unit. "unlocking" means of course you can use other SIM from any service provider.

320 x 480 is fine for a 3.1 screen. If it were 240 x 320, like htc wildfire, then it would have been horrible. Also I think they might have tried to keep the price low.

The vendor for this phone listed on the this web site provided the unlock free of charge. I have used it for 2 days and it works very well. The only glitch was it kept crashing (requiring battery removal) when I placed an 8gb memory card. Once I switched to the shipped 2gb card, its working normally

No I meant between the cost of the phone the Fedex shipping paid different sites for the unlocking key which did not work and the hours on the phone from dubai to us talking to verizon came to a USD 1000. Unlocking here actually finally took a couple of hours and USD 30. I am just surprised why all the attention is for touch screens allowing blackberry to rule the market for qwerty phones for business use. If there was a htc droid keyboard I would not have wasted my time with verizon. First and last time.

Wow! You paid US$1000 just for the unlock code? I know people in Dubai are wealthy, just didn't know... For US$1000, one can probably even fly to US, open an account, and simply pay for the contract for 2 years in advance, and probably can get the phone unlocked immediately. I paid around US$30 to unlock my Cliq last summer, which I thought was kinda expensive. Not sure if it should cost anymore to unlock this phone. Too bad I already bought 8 Moto Android phones last year and this phone isn't exactly on my priority list, though still want to get one.

Wow wish I knew after buying the phone having it shipped to dubai calling different sites to unlock paying for them which at the end did not work and then finallyngetting it unlocked costs me USD 1000. This is not to mention the countless hours I spent with verizon in the U S that were absolutely useless. They said I had to be on U S soil to have the phone initially unlocked and operational with a valid verizon contract and after 60 days they can provide me the unlock code for international use. I asked them then why did one of their representative agents sell me the phone if that was the case. They said I had to take it up with the agent. Maybe that's why everyone I know has cancelled with verizon and shifted to t mobile or AT&T .

CDMA doesn't use a SIM today. So this phone (like all Verizon world phones, e.g. Storm, 8830) has built-in CDMA support and GSM with a sim slot for GSM global use only (and 911 if needed in the US).

I just got this phone and I'm in love I didn't know it came with the ability to make it a mobile hot spot. The keyboard is beautiful and the screen is super responsive. Only improvements could be getting a trackpad and on screen keyboard. Phone is awesome

if you compare it to bb torch, for starters motorola droid's gprs and edge are class 12 while bb is 10. In my opinion android OS is better than bb OS. the CPU on the droid is also better, with 1 ghz while the bb torch has 624 mhz. you can edit documents with droid pro but only view them in a bb. the droid pro also has a digital compass, predictive text input, and a lot more than the bb torch. this phone beats blackberry, any model. memory, droid pro has 8 gb, 512 mb ram, and 2 gb rom. the bb torch has 4 gb, 512 mb ram, and 512 mb rom. so blackberry, torch or any bb, doesn't really compete with the droid pro.

This phone would more perfect if it had a video calling, better exterior design and quality; this looks cheap; a better resolution display; something like retina or super amoled display, had 720p recording. Motorola phone while it can not compete with other brands. I use to own a Blackberry 8910 and sort of liked it with it's short coming. I have now owned a Nexus one since it came out and love it. However, I will admit that if with some changes to this phone like: front facing camera, 4G capability, all aluminum/steel back cover and a 3.5 inch screen it would make my ULTIMATE phone and I would be sold in less than a split of a second. One can dream but with the way companies are coming our with new phone everyday perhaps someone will hear my voice.

Moto seems to be coming of age. I am sure this phone will have lot of admirers and lot of haters as well. However, i feel this is arguably one of the best that has got WORLD ROAM capability of 3G of GSM as well as EVDO of CDMA However, one thing which I would like to put across which I believe seems technically impossible that is why no cell manufacturer doing it. Why not have a dual SIM slot for both type of technology with all these features put together. My biggest worry is that if someone is travelling why would he need to replace his old sim with a new sim instead it should be swift usage of whatever one is ok with.. But surely Moto is embracing ANDROID in big way and rightfully since future is with ANDROID. If it has got motoblur with widget resizing option, nothing like it.

If any body from Moto is reading this: Please please please sell your high-end Moto products also in Iloilo City and not just in our nation's capital. Probably touchscreen, I think the keypad is only for text input (still better to have physical keys for texting than any touchscreen, for the other functions touchscreen is okay). Interesting thing is that the "call" and "end" keys seem to be absent too, and are shown on the display instead.

Yes it's normal that touch sensitive screes produce disturbances while holding in contact with ears and cheek. All touch sensitive phones should come with proximity sensor to deactivate touch sensitivity to avoid disturbances and also save battery by swithching off the screen.

Now this is a MY kind of a device. Great job Motorola! Only thing lacking is a Front VGA camera for 3G Video conferencing. Otherwise it specs are perfect for both business and multimedia users.

As far as i know, Droid series is only made for Verizon in USA. Droid is the exclusive name of Verizons Android series. If this phone is released somewhere else than for Verizon in the states it will not be called Droid.

Motorola may launch Windows Phone 7 devices? Today Motorola�s chief exec Sanjay Jha, announced that Motorola wanted to corporate with Microsoft producing smartphones based on Windows Phone 7. I think 360x480 resolution is not likely a good one considering the size of its screen. It works perfectly on blackberry bold 9700 because it has a smaller screen area of around 2.4inch. But judging by its picture, it's obviously bigger, and the 360x480 mark wont please many possible buyers..

First 3G is not just for videocall hope you know that. Look at laptop or PC that use 3G it first for the high speed internet. I know that the front facing camera is a very good featuring but sadly most of android doesn't have it. It seems that Moto start making some phone with secondary camera like Moto MT716 the Milestone for China.

What with Samsungs i5510 being another low-end handset, and Motorola's other flipside device also being on the low/mid spectrum, it would be nice to have a reasonable qwerty slider come here! :( Who has fingers small enough to use devices like this!?
