Those who really miss Redmi Note 2 can go buy Redmi 7A. It gives you the Note 2 vibe but of cause it lacks IR Blaster, removable battery and screen resolution has shrunk down to 720p but hey, at least you get 4k mAh instead of 3k, Bluetooth 4.2 instead of 4.0, FM Radio with built-in antenna, face-unlocking, much improved speaker sound quality, Snapdragon 439 instead of Helio X10, and the best of all, Sony IMX486!

Because it is using Mediatek Helio X20 processor. Many mobile processor at that period is not power saving. That's is why in a short period of time, Xiaomi quickly release another Redmi Note 3 with Qualcomm Snapdragon SD650. Still not yet the most efficient processor for that time, but battery life performance is much better than this Note 2, also Note 3 comes with 4000mah battery.

I don't know how to say, this cheap budget phone with removable battery do last longer than any smartphone that I ever owned. I have changed it's broken power button, changed it's battery, and also changed the battery case because the old one has the volume rocker broken. Now it just perform like new one from 3 years ago. Now who said Chinese manufacturer and a budget smartphone can't last that long? Despite it is just Android 5.0.2, I got no issue with it. It is updated to MIUI9 which is fast and fluid. Sadly it won't has the chance to upgrade to MIUI10. It's 2GB RAM are adequate to not make this phone lag. It do need a few seconds to load back the home screen if pressing the home button in the middle of something, but it never introduce that kind of lag that Samsung phone introduce, which even laggy by just scrolling through the apps, or laggy at the home screen. This phone got none of that problem. I still waiting this phone to die so that I can upgrade to something more powerful like Redmi Note 6 Pro, but this thing is just hard to kill. Salute to Xiaomi.

I don't blame Xiaomi but blame iPhone that start this whole non-removable battery trend on phone. The last phone that still defending this trend is LG V20, but they at last also following the trend with LG G6. This is just like the recent removing 3.5mm jack trend. I would only blame Xiaomi for following the iPhone trend too much as they actually mimicking the features and outlook too close to iPhone, which is part of their company policy. But Xiaomi is not the one to follow the trend, bunch of other brand out there also like that. But this Redmi Note 2 even with removable battery are already quite thin for it's time, meaning phone can be thin even with removable battery.

This is the best xiaomi phone that still has removable battery, I use it for playing Summoners War with extra battery, I can use it 12 hours straight for leveling up my mons, and its very cheap nowadays so even if the battery wears out, the replacement is cheap. I've been having 2 batteries fattening and unusable so far, been using it for like 3 years and counting. It's just sad that phones nowadays come with non removable battery, I read that it's mostly for form factor, for me I don't care having an ugly ass phone with boxy shape or thick like a dictionary as long as it can last 1 full day for heavy use. It's like phone manufacturers don't know what people want. Battery life is number 1 above all else.

As this phone use old generations (4 to 5 generations behind) SoC, also the power hungry Mediatek SoC, and the low grade 1080p LCD screen, it won't improve battery life significantly even after changing new replacement battery, might not solving the battery drain issue. Yes, there are apps that draining battery, you can check at battery usage by apps and look for the one that consume battery even without opening. But be reminded, some apps are normal battery drain for day to day usage, the one you use more will drain more battery life too, not completely is hidden apps drain. New battery might solve your sudden turn off issue, but won't solve the poor battery life issue. Only the last gen Redmi Note 4 and current gen Redmi Note 5 that use 14nm process SoC do significantly boost battery life, and also comes with bigger 4000mah battery. (Redmi Note 3 do improve battery life too with 4000mah battery, but not as drastically with newer gen SoC)

Finally, buy a replacement Power + Volume button, self disassemble the back cover and replace the button.The replacement is just USD 2.5, now my power button is working again. No need factory reset, just replace and power on, then will be ok. With battery also been replaced with Pisen OEM BM45 battery, whole phone just works like new.

Try aliexpress. The OEM brand such as Pisen and Nohon are guaranteed and much better than the many fake orange color BM45 Redmi Note 2 battery. I bought 2 fake orange colour BM45, which claim is original, but actually is fake battery. Currently I'm using Pisen, and Sun Global brand replacement battery, that is available locally at my country.

Today get the so called last OTA update on MIUI 9,for this phone, version 9.6.2.0, where it is being described the last stable update. The update specify the auto update will be turn off. There still will be future update, just need to go to "System Update". All these are more on stability and refinement rather than priority updates. For me, this phone get much smoother, stable and faster than before, despite using MTK6595 Helio X10 SoC, and just on the outdated Android 5.0.2. I recently replace it's battery with a genuine Pisen branded 3000mah battery (from any online store), get at least 3.5 hour SOT. After 3 years, still going strong.

That is being very old time. That time my country, around almost the same price, has Meizu M1 Note, Lenovo K3 Note. These are almost similar spec, all using Mediatek processor. This RN2 being the most powerful using Helio X10, however, it drain battery and overheat. Meizu M1 Note maybe is the better all round choice by not overheating, and much long lasting battery life. All these are the most budget "big" 5.5" phone can buy at that time, that pack reasonable hardware like 1080p screen, powerful processor. There is also the problematic ASUS Zenfone 2, that actually comes with Qualcomm Quick Charge 2.0, but cheaper model doesn't include the QC charger.

I have been using this phone for almost 3 years now. Flashed it immediatelly, been using weekly rom with some updates (miui 9 - not all features, but ok ROM ) - global MIUI 8 is perfect. Ordered a new battery couple of months ago, SOT around 4h, daily use no problem, without a lot of gaming/YT it can go for 2 days without charging. So, yeah, well built phone (get a temeperd glass), not the best one out there, but still.. i am happy with it.

Not to bash this phone. The normal usage performance is great, no lag what so ever. Heavy game take tolls on it's processor, overheat very quickly. Call quality is ok, 4G signal is ok, screen is 1080p, no issue on sharpness and PPI. Really, the only thing bothering me is the battery life. I'm using it with a power bank everyday. Before that, I have a Redmi Note 3, which is far more satisfying than this Redmi Note 2, before giving my Redmi Note 3 to one of my relatives. I'm going to upgrade to Redmi Note 5 or something else. I'm in love with MIUI by the way, the real minimalist, almost bloat free, useful Android skin that really outshine the rest.

In all respect, this is not the phone to get, due to it's very poor battery life. Please considering the new Redmi Note 4, Redmi 5 Plus, or the new Redmi Note 5. For other brand alternative, Meizu M5 Note, Nubia M2 are proper alternative. Smartphones do improved very fast, and get replaced very fast too.

I have used it for 2 years and i found that its plastic case and the removable battery had let it able to be use for a longer time. If you found that your battery are getting old and sick, you can always find a battery for replacement on online shop. My plastic case gets scratched and I also able to buy another plastic case online. Overall, I do not regret choosing this phone.

I'm using this phone for about two and a half years now. It's a grate phone in my opinion. The primary 13 mp camera is excellent specially when using HD mode both in pictures and videos. I have many times taken better pics even compared to iphone 6 cameras of my friends those days. But the selfie camera is kinda useless. Both phone and battery works well still. Functions well in gaming too. The first problem I faced with this phone was the extra long time it took for charging. This was really frustrating and finally after googling about it I did few changes that helped solving the issue. Get rid of all extra software the phone comes with. specially the battery saver/ charger app (I think its Du charger... not sure).. any way it's functioning the total opposite way and it makes the phone charge super slow and it drains battery soooo freaking fast. After getting rid of it my phone started working normal. Charging was also better. But it even got better when I replaced the charger with a samsung charger. Then it started charging quite fast. Phone heats up when excessively used on gaming and browsing but it is controllable. I never had a problem with that. Redmi interface is cool but I prefer google interface so I changed. But one major problem is when trying to download an app directly from google it automatically goes to redmi play store which is in Chinese language. So you will always have to remember the name of the app and search it in google play store. Google play store also dose not come along with the phone but u will have to get it. Redmi cloud is quite good and it always sync quite fast. mobile data saving mode is also good where you can manage data usage by each and every app separately. speaker is loud and clear but not the best phone when it comes to listening to music. Overall it's a nice phone and I love it.

Again, get your expectation right. If you think a budget phone like this one going to beat the high end or the midrange phone the same time this phone being release, this is not going to happen. However, there is always newer version, with upgraded spec. Still remember the 1st Samsung/HTC/Sony/LG android smartphone that come out to the market around 7 years ago? Even those cost much more than this, is actually much inferior to this phone. Things do improve every year, and it seems no point for making an unfair comparison. So, for those who can pay, just get the most expensive Samsung/Huawei/LG/HTC/Oneplus phones.

This is a budget phone on it's own, with everything very basic, but still pack 1080p display, and a powerful (power hungry) processor, which is expected to drain battery fast, and overheating (Mediatek processor). With such low price, actually nothing can be compared about, but it is a proper usable budget phone, which still has OS updates until today. For me, it is a lag free experience on this phone (actually much faster or equally fast with comparable high end phone). Only big issue is the poor battery life.

What are you asking for? This phone is known to drain battery fast, due to it's power hungry processor. Nothing can be done, upgrade to Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 is the only choice, that phone has much longer battery life, with a very power saving processor, and a moderate performance to match. If don't want to upgrade, buy spare battery or power bank seems is the only solution.

No need try some freeware, just let the phone format the SD card will be usable. Of course, any card, even the 128GB one will be formated to FAT32 by the phone. Before format, try backup those stuff in the card to computer.

Redmi Note 2 actually supports 64GB external class 10 SD card. Just make sure the card is successfully FAT32 formatted and it can be recognized by the phone. As Win7 can't do the FAT32 trick, try some freeware.

You can say Redmi Note 2 is not ok, but you can't say the same to Redmi Note 4 and Redmi Note 3, which totally on a different level. I would say, Xiaomi only prioritize software update on Mi series, not Redmi series. Mi Max/ Mi Max 2 is a good start for you. Or you can buy the more expensive Mi5s Plus.

Say whatever you dislike, this phone is passable as secondary phone. The only main problem would be the very mediocre battery life, which really doesn't lasted a day on normal usage. Other than that, other aspect is quite decent for it's asking price. For those who still complaining, suggest you get a more matured Redmi Note 4 or Redmi Note 3 with Snapdragon processor, you can't go wrong with these successor, almost every issue in this phone is fixed on it's successor. This Redmi Note 2, I considered as an experimental device that mark the transition from low end device to decent midrange device, albeit with very short life time.

What's up with all these silly complaints about the phone. It's considered as a budget phone after all & price per performance wise it's actually a pretty good phone. You can't expect to buy a BMW & get the performance of a Ferrari. Not everyone uses NFC so next time you want a phone with NFC do a quick research first. Camera quality is quite decent considering the low price point so if you want a better camera then buy something slightly more expensive. & don't forget to research. The only down side i find on this phone is the battery life. Luckily it charges pretty fast. So for those of you who can't stop whining about this phone please stop. You can't expect to pay so little & get everything you want. Grow up. I've been using this phone for a year now & it does everything a basic smartphone does just nicely.

I bought my redmi note 2 and it is the worst phone I've ever owned. I took it to China and inserted a Chinese sim card. Ever since then, it would freeze unexpectedly, usually when using my camera. It would freeze with image on screen but I couldn't even power the phone off. The only way I could turn off the phone was to take back off and remove the battery and wait 30 seconds to reinsert the battery. Isually, but not aleast this would work. I got tired of doing this almost everyday, especially when I lost the opportunity to take great pictures. Anyone else have this problem or have any suggestions for me?

I would say go for any authorized Xiaomi center to get the screen replaced. Of course, asked for the price before decide to repair. If the price is too expensive, then go to any phone repair shop. You also need to make sure the part is original part rather than a cheaper clone. Bear in mind as this phone is not as popular as iPhone and Samsung phone, spare part maybe limited in stock.

Overall, a pretty good basic Android smartphone to start with. Downsides are bad battery life (but charging time also is very fast) , and bad camera, no NFC. Used for 1 year, and no problem so far. Bought 2 spare battery for power hungry usage. Over heating has been vastly reduced after several software update, have updated to official global MIUI 8, with usable Google Playstore, still is Android 5.0.2, but everything on UI look and feel the same as it's higher price siblings like MI5. Maybe it won't suitable for used as primary phone due to various shortcoming, but perfectly usable as secondary phone. It's newer upgrade, Redmi Note 3 Pro and Redmi Note 4 are much better choice now than this, with Android 6.0.1 out of the box, much better battery life, no overheating, metal build, fingerprint, 32GB and 64GB choice, and still at a price close to this phone when launching. What I like most is the lag free and bug free OS that still got maintained up to this day, despite it's cheap price.

It has occurred to me after a while, that many buyers don't consider the 'after sales' services that a company should offer their patrons, things like tech support and repairs or warranties which should include unit replacements of defective ones. This is what defines the integrity of a firm and which differentiates them from a start up tech company. This is also the reason why I think that the Korean firms such as Samsung and LG are pretty much in a class above the others (mostly the ones from China) because of their tech supports, their 3rd party supports (accessories, etc), pretty much like what Apple does for their consumers. Lastly, I am afraid that my fear could be true regarding the Chinese brands, that their QC (quality control) is not at par YET with the leading companies in the world of mobile tech. They (the Chinese brands) may have amazingly equipped factories and set ups and well trained R&D personnel, but at the end of the assembly line must be a set of QC personnel with a sharp eye for slight defects of the units they ship out of their factories becoz this could either mean they win a market or they lose face. In closing, I just want to share an old experience I had in Beijing in the aspect of patronising a new tech. Back in the late 90s when MP3 players were beginning to soar as a new medium for personal music players, I decided to try out a new device. I bought one but was immediately disappointed with a certain problem with the new device. I called up the 'start up' company which happened to be a Korean company (it was basically unheard of in a sea of tech giants like Sony and Samsung). To my surprise, they sent their man who fortunately spoke some English and helped me thru the problem, at no further expense to me. He was very sincerely helpful and courteous. This is one lesson I learned in buying tech devices, always check if the company has tech support that will truly help you out of your misery after you banged your buck on their product, be it mid-priced or premium priced. (I apologise for such a lengthy post).

Well, the Redmi Note 3 Pro actually comes with 4000mah battery and better processor to optimise on battery life. Even so, Redmi Note 4 also improve on this regard. So, either get Redmi Note 3 Pro or Redmi Note 4 for better battery life.

I post these to counter those negative comment. First thing first, this is a budget phone, so don't expect it will be mind-blowing, it is just a simple and basic Android smartphone. So, expected it got something being cut corner like average battery life, average screen, average built quality, average camera quality. You got to set the expectation right especially this phone is selling around 3 time or 2 time cheaper than those almost similar spec phone from other brand. However, if you are after a very basic phone, then this is one of the best you can buy. It got performance that nearly match those high end phone, one of the phone that I used with minimum lag, and really can run those high end game without much issue. Other smart stuff work as expected, no compatible issue here and there. It is also very durable too, more durable than those more expensive phone that I used before. Below is the suggestion if you still not satisfied with the phone: Camera: Sorry, just buy other brand if you don't like the camera. Screen: Sorry, just buy other brand if you dislike the screen, it is a low quality screen that still pack 1080p resolution. No pixel density issue here, just screen brightness, viewing angle, contrast are not that good, but no problem from day to day usage. Battery Life: Suggest you get spare battery. Still want complain? Get yourself a Redmi Note 3 Pro with Snapdragon 650 processor with 16GB storage that priced close to this phone, then should you get those upgrade from battery life, a bit better screen, better build quality with metal back, fingerprint scanner, and better performance and much less overheat. Want overall better phone at cheap price, go buy Mi series phone instead of Redmi, or buy something like Oneplus 2/3, ZTE Axon 7. You also got option to buy more expensive like Samsung S7 Edge, LG G5, HTC 10, Moto Z, Sony Xperia XZ, Google Nexus/Pixel. Resisted some unexpected falls. - Performance is WAY above the same priced Phones. Even murders the Moto G3 in EVERYTHING. - The Full HD screen comes really handy - The OS offers some good features that are really useful - Price is really good for the features offered. Disadvantages: - The battery per se is not bad, the BIG problem is the antenna. It consumes a LOT of energy to connect to 3G. - It overheats if is used a lot. - It looks so cheap made. - NO serious updates. We only updated to MIUI 8 which is the same Lollipop 5.0.2. Xiaomi has no intentions to seriously update to Marshmallow despite it has the chance to do it. - The community is slowly dissapearing due Xiaomi negligence. Is sad seeing a good community being abandoned by the company which compromised to hear the customers.

Trust me, install a custom ROM, they came with ROOT acces by default, so is a plus if you were planning on ROOT. Do a bit of research on the Xiaomi forums, they have active devs every day, customer service and a great community. ¡Install a custom ROM!

First of all, the phone is Chinese, that means that if you buy the device online there's a chance it comes with a Chinese ROM. Second, you HAVE to install a Custom ROM (You can find anything you need on the Xiaomi EU forums), the built in one has a lot of useless features and Chinese apps and store, the battery last less because useless Chinese processes and other things (I use MIUI7 by Hermes). When you install the custom ROM you see a super noticeable improve in the system, is faster, heats less and battery last a lot longer(2 hour of music draws 2% of battery on stand by). Now, phone specs: -MIUI ROM uses 1gb of RAM -Camera has very good quality for the price -Speakers not so good, use headphones -Screen is made of glass (like most phones), not gorilla glass or plastic. -Screen is outstanding with this procesor, can display double of the Hz of a normal phone, u have to set it up to work like this tho, and video apps are the ones who benefit from this feature. Color can be adjusted bc the screen is "brownish/yellowish". -WiFi connectivity is great (1mbps when I use it at max) as well of 4g. (CHECK THE BANDS COMPATIBILITY OF YOUR COUNTRY). -You won't need an SD card if you get the 32gb version, ~28gigs are for you.

Its very capable phone, specifications wise. But the ROM that comes with it is very immature, with various bugs. And as a layout is worse than my 4 year old zte970. - Auto screen brightness is crazy and laggy. Although sensor is perfect when i test it with a program. After i get a call the next button i press even after many hours, plays the calling sound for 0.5 second. - Have to plug in the usb twice so the software can pick it up and connect. - After connecting to the PC and removing it i go a temperature warning, and it was draining the battery like the processor got stuck 100% and it got very hot. I had to reboot it because it wouldnt get straight. - Lots of default software that want to cleans the cache save battery with stupid functions and recommends Mui search engine randomly.... - No calculator in the main menu. I can only find it if i search from the quickbar (offline). (duh wtf ?) - Background picture position changes by itself after reboot (show left part only), and fixes by itself in a random time i have never seen (set to middle by me). - Interface has lots of usefull function pretty hidden up. But other stupid functions are right in your face numerous times... - Loud speaker is set with too much gain, so it sounds like its loose or broken after 75%

Hi, If you have a fast charge cable you cannot use it to connect to the computer as well. The cables can either transfer data and charge at 1AMP or charge at 2AMP but not transfer data. Basically ... get another cable.

Updated to MIUI 8 before. The most drastic change is the drop down menu, it become something like Samsung menu, a menu that is shorter, with colors. Other thing are remain the same, feel nothing changed from MIUI7 to MIUI8. Both MIUI7 and MIUI8 are as fluid. The only thing annoy will be the update as update is too frequent, until need to restart too often. Suggest wait till the stable release only update.

Compare to other almost similarly priced and almost released at the same time, Lenovo K3 Note or A7000 Plus, Meizu M1/M2 Note, Meizu MX4, ASUS Zenfone 2/Selfie/Laser, Alcatel Flash Plus, ZTE Blade A711, Alcatel Idol 3, this phone is the best among those. I can say the 1st generation Redmi Note is not ok, but certain I can't say the samething on Redmi Note 2. For how much the phone is it isn't bad, a couple years back someone I know bought the blackberry z10 for a Lil bit more than the xiaomi and you just cannot compare them, come on, octave core 2ghz processor doesn't sound bad to me with a 13mp camera. Call quality is loud and clear, not the loudest, but loud enough. Speaker also loud and clear, but not the loudest. The only main concern are it's battery life and camera, and also it's gaming performance, certainly cannot run well on high end game, but is playable, only not smooth enough, due to it's average graphic chip. Sun light readability is ok, but not the best. This is just a best phone in it's own price category, with everything balanced out, much like a Samsung Galaxy Note 3 but with inferior camera, inferior battery life and inferior graphic chip. This phone only best suited for above average usage. I would recommend the Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 over this Redmi Note 2, as the Snapdragon version of Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 (or called Redmi Note 3 Pro) raw performance are actually close to LG G4, certainly outperform Samsung Galaxy Note 3. Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 Pro will be totally different, where it can handle real high end gaming, and a much improved camera over RN2, it's processor also is much more power saving and much less overheat. Screen also is a big improvement.

To be honest, this is one of the most satisfied phone being used. Used for 8 month, and no sign of slowdown either. It's battery is not so great, and little heating while using, partly due to the Helio X10 processor. But everything else, this is the fully usable phone that is not skipping many key feature, like OTG and Gyro. I updated to global stable rom 7.5. Do give this phone a try, make sure you are buying the true original one rather than import set from China. There do have many low quality unit from grey importer. This comment is written on RN2.

Xiaomi Note 2 is junk. It has caused me many frustrating hours of grief trying to get it to work properly. Today was the final straw. Wechat voice messages are so faint I can't hear them. This problem has happened in the past but has fixed itself. Not any more. Upgrades to fix problems just cause more problems. Don't buy one of these. Mine is going in the trash to day.

Actually on Global ROM, this phone feel as capable and it can. I actually only experience serious heat if I gaming on high 3D game, on other lower demanding activity actually barely feel any heat. It actually perform no lag than other so called high end phone on long term usage, with installation full of apps and store photo inside the phone. (My friend Samsung S5 and HTC M10 getting so much pronounce lag and heat, even only just install some basic chatting, casual game and social media apps only.) It just feel a bit slower on apps launching and navigation, but never to a lag state, where phone will hang for a while to perform something. Of course, all those thanks to the latest ROM, earlier ROM indeed lag. The only minus are it's screen color, unimpressive screen viewing angle, it's average camera, it's low speaker phone loudness, under average build quality, slow Micro SD read, and average battery life. But other than that, it is perfectly usable, acceptable as just priced a fraction of those expensive phone. A more worth upgrade will be Redmi Note 3 Pro 16GB version with Snapdragon 650, which improve almost all these shortcoming, and priced so not much expensive than this.

There is an Private Folder in the Redmi Note 2. Open the Explorer app. On top of the 3 icons, namely, Videos, Docs, Images; Then put your finger and scroll downwards. You can select password, pattern, pin, in order to open the Private folder. There is a safety, once you are out of the private folder, you need to do the same way to open the Private folder. Samsung is not safe, as the Private folder always remain as open.

For OTG there is no setting at all. You need to get those usb cable to macro usb (same as charger input). Turn on the screen (meaning not in lock screen mode). Insert the cable into the phone charger port. There are also USB flash drive, where on 1 side is USB port and the other side phone USB. When you have slot in, there is this message that to remove, press the message, as just like computer that to click to remove flash drive. As i say again, there is no setting as it is like PC, just slot in the phone charger macro USB.

My mother use RN2, and complaint a lot about battery drain. I experimented with different ROM, and it finally settled down at 4 hour SOT in my test. My mother started using it again, and still complaint. Then I found out that in my mother's bedroom , the signal is low, and that consumes the battery.....at a staggering rate 6-7% EVERY HOUR. If I use it upstairs where signal is strong, barely 1% every hour. Compared to Samsung J2 which it replaces, it only consumes 1% in the same room vs 6% in Xiaomi phone. All I can say to my mother.....just replace the phone ! No more solution.

Junk. Listening to a wechat audio message---if you turn the phone to horizontal the audio stops. Periodically the phone will get hot and the battery will drain in an hour. Changing language to English works for some but not all things. Touch screen works--sometimes. I am ready to throw this thing against the wall. Your phone may be export set, as most export set are not local set. All or most of the apps are malware apps. You may have to consult MIUI forum for assistance. You can search for MIUI forum for your country. I had bought one set with these malware apps. I did finally totally removed all the preloaded factory apps. Then i retrieve from the website on the actual MIUI preloaded factory apps. For Google, it is available in the forum somewhere, for the latest version. This Google Installer do comes with all Google apps, which must be installed in order to run properly. Do search on "Google Installer" using the search function. Everything are available in the MIUI websites.

It is not about bug. Whenever there is an update on the phone, there bound to have some apps & features may not work properly. When updating finished, it will optimize all apps, may include features. Refer to my both previous post for the solution on 4G and APN. For apps not working properly, if you think so, then all you need to do is to "Uninstall" and then "Install" the apps again. Sometimes when it had update, certain apps &or features may not work properly. Several methods; 1. Turn off and remove the SIM card. If you have an another working SIM card, then slot it in. Turn on the phone and let the phone do the activation. Then turn off and swap back your original SIM card and turn on. Let the phone do the activation, such as detecting 4G & reset the ISP APN (Access point names). Done. 2. Turn off and remove the SIM card. No spare SIM card to test. Never mind, put back the back-cover WITHOUT the SIM card. Turn on, as it would say No Network. Finally, Turn off and put the SIM card in. Then turn on and let the phone do the activation, etc. Done. If both points 1 & 2 failed. Then do next. 3. Find another working SIM card and slot in to the phone. If it can detect new SIM card, and the phone can do the activation on 4G & APN. This means your SIM card is having problem. Go and get an replacement SIM card.

It can means a lot of apps running in the background. To clear all other apps running, press+hold the middle button 'square'. Then press the x to clear all apps running, thus release all ram. Then you may able to surf without rebooting. Not enough ram, so reboot to clear all ram. I use this method often, clear all rams so that the next app will have plenty of ram to use.

I had a bad experience on update from website myself. All the languages gone, except for Chinese & English. And phone not stable. Yes, both SIM able to use 4G detect by the phone. For Internet, at the setting > SIM cards & mobile networks; Below the Default Setting, you can select which SIM for internet access & Dial. If you have already updated to the latest ROM but you still have problems or you have new problems, it's possible that your update did not download completely due to faulty connection when you were downloading the update. You have to do it all over again. Go to Settings > About phone > System updates > Check for updates. If your phone still says 'No updates available', you can do a re-update, as below. Tap on the 3 dots in the upper right corner of this screen. In the next screen, tap on 'Download update' and the downloading will start. Follow instructions until re-update is complete and you are asked to reboot. Note that this is a *very large* system file and the download can take a while. It took me more than half an hour through a public Wifi hotspot. It is also best to *not* use the phone whilst you are updating. The update installs automatically and you will be asked to reboot. After rebooting, re-check all your settings and configurations; some will go back to default. IMPORTANT: Ensure that (1) You are connected to a reliable Wifi so that you will not lose the connection whilst downloading (if that happens, you will surely have problems). Downloading over Wifi works better than over a SIM card data plan. (2) You have at least 50% battery in your phone before you start downloading the update. I had to 'settle' for the Redmi Note 2 at its listed price, and felt apprehensive about buying a China-made device. Looking back now, I am laughing at my own apprehension...LOL! Set up the phone, updated firmware to MIUI Global 7.2.3.0(LHMMIDA), removed/disabled unwanted apps, and played around with it. The learning curve was surprisingly gentle. It was much easier to get used to than the Lumia phone. Touch response felt totally different from the Lumia phone, which has a serious touch problem. Interfaced with my PC without any hassle. After one month's use, I have no issues at all. There is no overheating problem (this is due to too many apps running in the background whilst on heavy, prolonged usage), no dropped calls or data connection, no hanging when browsing (this is a problem of the website visited and not the device; my PC too always hangs on certain sites), no battery drain (this is due to always-on apps and other background activity), no glitches, whatsoever! Maybe one teeny 'problem', but this is just me and is not about the phone. Auto-sync. This was simply resolved by switching off the function or deleting the relevant cloud account. Battery easily lasts more than a day, even with heavy browsing and watching YouTube videos. Charging is super fast - from 15% to 100% in less than 1.5 hours! On standby and with very light usage (making lists, changing settings, etc), the battery remains at 100% for 8 hours or longer! That is how efficient this phone is. I have 2 micro-SIMs - one only for data, the other only for phone. Data SIM goes into the first slot, phone SIM into the second slot. In the toggle screen, I can switch off Mobile Data (SIM 1) to save data and battery and I can still receive phone calls/messages (SIM 2). I can also turn on Hotspot and my PC automatically connects (after configuration) to my Redmi for Internet access. I now do not need to use my Huawei mobile broadband dongle. Wifi connection, when on the move, works flawlessly. Camera works fine. What is really cool, is the Zoom function, which can be controlled by the Volume button. Most phone cameras do not have Zoom and you would have to pay for an app in order to have it. The best thing is the low, low price, which does not seem to match the solid quality experienced so far. It could be that Xiaomi is on a branding mission and they are putting out 'loss leaders'. Once the branding is complete, I doubt their prices will continue to remain this low. Just like what happened with Sony and Samsung. So grab it now while the price is still so cheap for such an awesome phone. Or you may regret it later.

Camera is good but not great, meaning it can deliver decent photos (with a right angle and lighting), anyhow, most of the time am using filters. Currently on 7.2.3.0 MIUI Global, its stable, refined OS & MIUI, no lags, kinda smooth. I suggest that you flash the Global version to resolve your problem. Most China phone comes with English beside Chinese. To change the setting, click on the standard Setting icon. Scroll down to grey icon with 3 dots in the center, which is "Additional settings". In the next page, scroll down and select the 3rd options which is "Language & input" In next page, the first option is "Language" and select the Language accordingly. Next, in order to get Google Installer, you need to go to "Mi App Store" to install. You need to install ALL the apps starting with "Google ..." Do the updates for all the Google apps that are installed. To play safe, do restart the phone when you the phone is in English; and after installed all Google apps. This is to avoid certain apps unable to install properly. Do note all Google apps must be installed without missing any. Google play is available in Mi App Store. Search for "Google Installer", if not in the 1st list; then go to next "Look more" icon If you select the correct one, it will show All the Google Play apps. Yeah, full wipe will delete all user data/apps. It'll basically restore your phone to a fresh state where only default MIUI apps remain. MIUI has a backup/restore option but I have never used it so I'm not sure how well it works. Access by going to Settings>Additional Settings>Backup&Reset>Local Backups>Backup. Here you'll be able to select individual apps to backup. Titanium backup is a good app for backing up and restoring apps but in order to use it, your phone needs to be rooted.

I forgot to say in my previous comment, if you're navigating recovery mode, touch function doesn't work in stock recovery. To select an option, press the power button and for moving up/down in the menu, use the volume keys.

It sounds like whatever app is responsible for the ads is being carried over whenever you flash a new rom. You can do a full wipe by entering recovery mode. This can be done 2 ways. If your phone is switched off, press and hold power button and volume up together, until MI logo appears and then let go. 2nd method is with the phone powered up. Go into Updater app. Press the 3 dots icon at the top right. Select "Reboot to recovery mode". Once in recovery mode "Wipe and Reset" should be an option after selecting language, with a further option of "Wipe all Data". If you proceed with this, it will take a while to complete so be patient. Afterwards, your phone should be clean of any apps causing ads.

Thanks for the advise. How do i do a full wipe install? I dowloaded the global rom from the miui site using my PC transfered it to my redmi note 2 and upgraded from it the first time to upgrade from the seller's rom (miui 6 to 7) then i upgraded again through the system updater. In both instance, the ads were there when charging the phone. The seller's rom was worse since the ads appear not only during charging time.

The retailer that you bought it from most likely installed their own modified ROM that has hidden advert apps. It's not uncommon. By default, Xiaomi doesn't have Play Store so a lot of sellers that you import from, will install it for buyers. Depending on the seller, it might include unwanted ad apps as well. Best to do a full wipe and then install global ROM or else a better custom ROM so that none of the pre installed apps get carried across.

The best solution to most of your problem is to install the latest miui global stable rom. (Currently 7.2.2.0) That will fix most of your problem. Yes including battery life. Because most of custom rom installed with so many apps running in background and also this rom often maximizing performance at all times by using all 8 cores at all times. Thats why most of you have issues on battery life. My suggestion: install the latest official miui global rom. The battery will not last for 1 full day but it will bring a noticable difference. Battery problem? Most of redmi note 2/ prime on the market doesn't come with official miui rom installed. Mostly preinstalled with developer/custom rom. I dont know why, but this is what happens. Those developer/custom roms usually doesnt have google service installed, shows rom version number which is never issued by the official miui rom, and always say current rom is up to date (never found any update). Been using this phone for a month now, and I really am impressed. It has incredible performance, snappy as heck, gaming is also really good, and over all I'm really happy with it. Battery life used to be crap in the last update, I believe the new update has fixed that issue as battery seems to be lasting much longer after the update. Camera is subtle. But for everyday usage, it's got a really good both back and front camera. Beautifully lit vivid display from every angle, just wish the screen was slightly more brighter under daylight, but it's still very manageable. Miui is a really beautiful interface, can bet and say better than any Touchwiz and UI of any other branded flagship smartphone. 8.8/10. There isn't anything as incredible as this smartphone in this price range - so if your budget is within the budget of this phone, get it without looking anywhere else. You won't regret it.

My Redmi Note 2 Experience (5 days now) Grade: 1-10 (10 is highest) - Display = 8.5 (FHD) - Software = 8.5 (MIUI) Global - Gaming = 8.0 - Battery = 7 (full charge to 100%, disconnect the charger then, just after just 2 minutes, down to 99% and draining, but based on my usage, does not affect the usability. On a moderate use. The battery back up to the next charging (20%) could last till the next 24 hours (more or less). On daily basis, Moderate use of gaming (via wi-fi), clash of clans, clash royale. Few minutes of Whatsapp and Facebook. Wi-fi is off when not in use. - Calls & connectivity = 9.0 - Camera = 7 (good but not great) - Apps performance = 8.0 Conclusion: A promising smartphone for a $160 price tag. But hopefully, they could do some fix to improve the battery back up. The rest are good. So far no lags. No over heating with moderate use. The Theme app is no longer available after the new update to MIUI Global 7.2/Stable 7.2.2 (LHMMIDA) Android Version 5.0.2. I can only access the Theme app and customize my phone after a reboot. A notification will pop up, offline Theme App. I will insert my sd card, then I will post some review on it. That's it for now.

This is a great phone! And the low price makes it awesome! The battery in my 5yo Sony Ericsson Xperia phone (which still works fine) was dying so had to buy a new one. My first choice was a Sony M4 Aqua, but the dealer outlet (Challenger, Singapore) didn't have it. Next choice was the promo Asus Zenphone 2, they said all outlets had no stock. The only mid/low price phone available was the Redmi Note 2. Its list price was cheaper than the Zenphone promo price! Lollipop is fine for me for now. Touch response is very crisp. Been using it for a week now. Working beautifully so far. Still early days but I have a good feeling about this phone. Battery lasts 1.5 days with my normal usage: mainly messaging & internet browsing, camera & 1 or 2 basic apps. I played YT music videos for 6 hours & there was absolutely no heat problem, just slight extra warmth as compared to normal. Purely in standby mode, battery showed 100% for more than an hour. I could easily transfer files from a Windows Phone & from my laptop using BT w/o any problems. The best thing for me is the OTG, since I need to use files/folders from my laptop when I am out. Now I don't have to carry heavy, bulky items. Alternatively, i can insert an external SD card & transfer files to there. (Had a Samsung Note 10 with OTG but after just 2 months' use, rapidly flashing lines appeared on the screen & got worse over time & also it's heavy to carry.) I am quite careful with carrying & handling my phones & very, very rarely drop them. Since this model does not have Gorilla glass, maybe users should handle their phones a little more carefully. I am so far very happy with this amazing phone. :-D

If you are using global stable rom already then you are on the right path yo save battery.. Nothing else we can do, only use performance mode when necessary. So now we cannot change the theme? The dual sim card seems to be useless in Japan since there is no more 2G in japan. I tried my 3G sim + 4G(LTE data only)sim, 3G on slot 1 since it is for voice call and 4G on slot 2, only the 3G sim worked. Both sims use docomo frequency (facility). You are using custom Rom, this kind of rom programmed that you will never get that official update directly from the updater.. Try this: en.miui.com. Download latest global stable rom for redmi note 2. (Zip file, 945mb +/-). Download directly from your redmi note 2 is ok. Save the file to wherever in external memory (SD card). Open updater, do not check for update, press (...) at the top right corner. Choose update package, Browse for the file you just downloaded. Then press ok. Wait for the process.. Your files and the apps you installed will not be affected.. But preinstalled apps may be deleted or changed.

it's been only a few days that i have purchased Redmi Note 2 and today when i attended call while my cell was on charging,the back camera gives me a electric shock or my hand feels being shocked after that i check it via current device to check current then it clearly shows current on back camera when phone was on charging so can anyone explain me what's the problem i think its phone problem so since i'm under the warranty, will i be able to get replaced? any speech, or any sentence that i can support my argument when talking about consumer law in case they will deny of replacing it or come up with a solution?

If it doesnt support google services, i'm pretty sure it is preinstalled with chinese custom rom. You can download latest global rom with google preinstalled. en.miui.com After download the file you can simply use updater on your tools folder. Tap (...), locate the file location. And then just wait.. Once it completed, the phone will be loaded with proper applications, not too many as in chinese rom.

Switching from the Huawei g620, just today, i must say all the best in favour of XIAOMI. An excellent and up to date piece of hardware. OctaCore 2.0 vs QuadCore 1.4, dobule the amount of ram, 5,5" vs 5", FHD vs HD... Im currently copying the full hd (.mkv) of xfiles pilot and see how well it plays it :) My hopes are high for the test. Since i managed to pay 155€ for this phone (ill try and sell the HUAWEI phone).... the verdict from me 9/10 (-1 because of the crancky back cover).

you might try lollipop 5.0.2 AOSP v1.61 rom by vova.vafin, you can find it at needrom. so far SOT is better than miui, and its camera is awesome too, hdr also works. i use it as my daily rom. i use this rom because of hdr and clearmotion which you cannot find on most (if not all) CM rom.

Note 3 with locked bootloader and no microsd slot. With metal body that will dent if dropped off. I'll surely choose note 2 bcoz 2gb ram is more than enough to me. I don't need fingerprint sensor even though it is a nice feature.

I have been using this device for around a month and I have no complaints about it except for battery performance. Battery performance is just below average. But everything works flawlessly. Ever since I have started using Xiaomi devices I loved Miui. But there is no way without rooting to transfer apps to SD card. That's one of the biggest drawbacks of these device. 4-5 hours under heavy multitasking & chatting with 3000mah battery seems normal to me.. And I never had heating problem in normal mode. Peformance mode makes more heat. Custom rom with lots of app running can also makes more heat. I dont know which one you are experiencing. But definitely no bad battery and heating problem on mine.

Yes, i am now using xl (internet & default number) & telkomsel (rarely to receive phone call from the same provider only) + 32GB sdcard. All are active simultaneously. It works. However, sometimes i lost my 3g network on sim 1.. When i deactivate sim2. Sim 1 seem to be easier of reaching 3g network. Losing network rarely. No scientific proof though. But i think it has something to do with the lack of voltage suplied to the sim cards when turn on both sim simultaneously.

Oh, i just remember there is a feature called 3g video call haha.. Yes, its too bad, note 2 does not equipped with this feature.. Anyway i never use this feature too, so i didnt realize its missing.. I heard so many major phone manufacturer drop this feature. I.e iphone never equipped with this feature. Only samsung, LG, and a few others who has this feature available. I dont really understand of this matter, but i think there must be a strong reason. Because i believe that 3g video call is a simple thing to those major brands if they would make it available.

Why not get the new Redmi Note 3 with Snapdragon 650? Even though Meizu phones are well built but I think Xiaomi is better in the software department. I'm not sure about Meizu but with the Snapdragon 650, you could expect some custom roms if the phone takes off. If SD Card is really important to you, I would choose the Redmi Note 2. All in all, maybe read up some reviews about the phone and see if there are any major flaws and how the software is.

Regarding camera, it would be very subjective i believe.. If you asked me, the cam is AWESOME! I dont know whether it is the best in compare to other phone in its class or not, but it works as i expected. Multiphase, autofocus, etc. It is as advertised. Compare to redmi 3? In short.. Redmi note 2 is above the level of redmi 3. Redmi note 2 has larger screen, better screen resolution, much more powerful processor. And bigger internal memory (prime version). However, redmi 3 definitely has a better battery life. Just enough to support daily communication needs.

I have Xiaomi Redmi Note 2 Prime for over a month now and I strongly suggest you to buy Redmi Note 2 over Note 3. Here's why. Both Note 2 and Note 3 are almost identical in regards to the CPU, GPU, Chipset, OS, screen size and resolution, primary and secondary cameras and so on. Note 3 however has 3 critical disadvantages in my opinion: - It has NO additional card slot; - It has NON-removable battery; - It has fingerprint sensor (which may be considered an advantage by some). Of course Note 3 has some advantages over the Note 2 - 3 GB RAM for the 32 GB version, somewhat bigger battery and sleek metal design. So, if you're after versatility and usefulness and you don't mind the plastic design I suggest you Note 2. If you're more after modern design, look and feel may be Note 3 is your phone. In both cases though you just can't go wrong with any of this two models.

I am a happy and proud redmi note 2 user, as you can see my previous posts tend to defend what i believe regarding this phone, while trying to helps other. Actually i have 1 big disapointment regarding the phone, that i have never seen this topic discussed here. Its the sound quality.. Not the sq during a phonecall, its the sound quality when we play music or play games. Both through back speaker or 3.5mm jack. Its disappointing. Flac files played, tried all my decent earphones and headphones. Tried everything on equalizer menu. Turned on mi sound enhancher. Tried everything on headphone types. Still i couldnt find a good sound quality as i expected. Sounds like too many software intervention (which i believe it is) to process the sound output. If you are expecting a good natural sound, i believe you'll be disappointed. I have to admit, on sound area.. My good old samsung p3100 tab 2, or even my ancient blackberry 9700 is so much much better to listen. Just plug a decent earphone. Neutral equalizer. It sounds good.. This redmi note 2, doesnt. Well of corse this could be very subjective.

Mine is prime version, updated to 7.1 no high battery drain. If you are sure that your battery is ok, you need to check these following things: 1. Not necessary to run in performance mode all the time. 2. active 2 simcards drains more power. I only activate 1 sim to standby. The other one only switched on when i need. 3. Set auto screen brightness on, and set the brightness level to 50%. Personally i think that is bright enough. 4. Check how many app running in background, apps may syncing and GPS searching every a couple of minutes, you can set it at lower interval. 5. Set screen off after not too long of inactivity. I think i cannot expect even a ferrari to save its fuel at its full high speed performance.

I did.. But not anymore. 1st. the same as my answer below. Too many application running on custom rom (you might purchase the phone with custom rom installed). Get official latest global rom. 2. I suggest not to activate 'performance'. It drains extra power and the phone heats up easily. 3. However the battery capacity is not too big. That is the best you can have. I personally think 3 hours of non stop gaming is not bad actually.

For those getting the Micro SD card not readable or not recognized, the phone only read the Micro SD in FAT32 file format. So, if the card file format is in other format, such as exFAT, NTFS, then the phone won't able to read it. You can let the phone to format the card for you, or use any Windows tools to format the card at computer with card reader.

There is general confusion. All Redmi Note 2 coming with Micro SD slot, the prime version also comes with Micro SD slot. The one that don't has Micro SD slot is Redmi Note 3.

But i can still use 4g, while waiting for next miui update. go to: settings -> about phone -> tap 5 times on "internal memory" -> phone information 1 (or 2 depending on which one you are using fot intetnet connection) -> set preffered netwotk type -> LTE/GSM auto (PRL) or you can also choose LTE only. If you have no problem with the price, definitely z3 compact is better. Not in everyway actually, redmi note 2 has better screen resolution and size. This note 2 prime i am using is definitely not the best phone available. But i personally think its the best value for performance vs price.

Oh sorry i misssed your question on heating problem. As i posted earlier bro, i have no problem with heating issues after using official rom. Generally, i may say the phone is slightly heated when running heavy app, such as heavy game.. But still in acceptable degree. Running regular app such as whatsapp, bbm, etc, not heating. The same heat as samsung p3100 i previously using. Actually i am wondering.. Is it possible if those who have heating issue actually using fake xiaomi product? Or maybe only rom problem? Oh and to answer everybody regarding battery life. With my regular usage of heavy whatsapp, bbm, browsing, and rarely using phone call the battery last for +/- 7 hours.

Note 3 using a higher capacity but non removable battery. 2. Note 3 has NO sd card slot. 3. Note 2 prime using 2.2ghz proc that is better than 2.0ghz on note 3. Over those cons. I am in Indonesia. I got my redmi note 2 prime 1 week ago, chinese version with sd card slot. Bought it on local shop here for IDR 2.300.000 (+/- 170 in USD) The phone preinstalled with chinese custom rom to make 'bahasa indonesia' available. There were also so many applications that would drains the internet connection, synchronizing every couple of minutes, in short : disturbing. Did not came with google services. It took only a few hours of normal usage to drain the battery empty. All i did was opening mi official website, i found how to manually change the rom to the latest global rom 7.012.00. Download the zip files (1GB) Follow the steps mentioned on website, it wasnt complicated. Then all my complains above is gone away.. It is AWESOME! It comes with pre installed google service. Everything runs exactly as i expected. No unwanted preinstalled app, etc.. I assure you, the phone is very very good! No battery issue. HD screen, no heating.. All you need to do is just make sure that you are running on the latest global rom available from their official website.

Overall this is one good phone. For those who have probs with overheating and battery, you can upgrade to miui7, that should solve the problem. For me the cons is on the RAM, you lose practically 1gb due to background apps. And graphic hardware accelerator is not up the mark. It mainly uses software accelerator, which work perfect. You can buy this phone straight from its web.

Battery backup is very average on this device :( even when I'm not using the phone battery drain quickly..I think thats the problem with helio x10 SoC.anyway screen quality and daily performance is good. :|

Go to Settings - Additional settings - Battery and performance - Apps. Take note of apps that consume the most battery and close these apps when not in use. Also, reset the phone from time to time because some apps seem to run in the background even when shut down. Hope this helps.
