i just bought this phone and try to connect this device as a modem from my PC, strangely the phone detected as cdma modem (it's supposed to be gsm right?) and i don't get the hsdpa speed connection. the speed detected is only 230.4 kbps. is this phone really has the hsdpa?

So do i, the batery was not too tough for 3G phone. So i have to off the light keypad and off the 3G mode, but it just save about 15% to the batery. Any better suggest? Is it normal or it just mine that have the problem?

about 3g signal and u cant receive any messages or even send one..this always happens to all cp with 3g capablities..try going to network mode.choose gsm 900/1800.that would fix it..but u wont be able to use ur 3g for a while.just switch it to automatic if ur sure that there is 3g signal.3g sites sometimes affects the signal of a cellphone.just turn it off and sgnal will b fine..

Ok - had this phone for long enough to make a review. Overall it's a very nice handset that looks good and feels good. The menu structures are easy enough to follow and the Nav key does what it should. The slide is fantastically smooth and all the external buttons auto-lock whilst the slide is closed - a good feature. The camera gives useable images. Good for a phone but nowhere near the quality of a regular camera although if one wanted to take good photos we'd use a proper camera anyway. For happy snapping around town it's fine. The only minus point for the phone is the truly awful memo function that is limited to 100 characters. Yes, 100 characters only. Even my old Nokia 3220 allowed nearly 3000 characters per memo. Utterly useless on the A801 I'm afraid and not acceptable on any phone whatsoever. Maybe it's because mine has Telstra firmware on it. I dunno. Call quality is excellent, the display is faultless, sounds are good and clear. SD card takes total capacity to 2.04Gb which should be enough for anyone. Can't assign .mp3 tones to incoming messages. All-in-all it's a nice enough piece of kit.

Have been having this phone for about a year now, have been seeking a solution on this matter. I would like to back up my SMS data permanently to my PC. Anyone out there have any recommendation. Apparently, the PC studio provided for this model does not cater for such backup. Samsung customer service ppl simply says that they are not able to help. Thanks a bunch.

this phone is ok. but recently i met a problem where de reception cant be stablilized.. initially i thought it was the SIM card tat i was using..but after i tried my SIM card on the other phone i had it is ok..so is the phone.. when de reception is not stable i mean whenever i go indoor to underground or a shopping centre de 3G sign goes off and i can call out or receive sms. so pissed off.

hi. not sure if you already have your query answered but since i am also a user of the same phone, i might as well help out. in your compose message window or any space you wish to key in your email address, press the top right button (above the "end call" button), press "5" for symbols, then press "8" for underscore and then press "OK". have a great week!^^

i had this phone for more than a yr now.its a nice phone.stylish.smart phone.with all the features you would need.the only thing that u have to be careful of,in not drop the phone.the ribbon(the wire or whatever you call it that connects the keypad to the screen)is senstive.i had mine replaced.if the camera wont work once you press the fast key,one indication that the ribbon is already damaged.nice phone!go get one! :)

I previously had this fone for just over a year. Good things are its fantastic compact size, easy to use screen and the video calling / data capabilities were awesome. Down sides were very poor battery life, needs to be recharged daily, poor audio quality from ear peice, inability to change the two home buttons (when unit is telstra branded). Extremely over priced for what it was when it was available. i paid 999 for it, now its 299 on prepaid!!

I've had this phone 16months now. Recently this signal strength has just weakened, wherever the phone is, and so it breaks up when you are on the phone and sometimes just hangs up. The charger slot cover has become lose because I've used it so many times so it does not stay in and is slightly annoying. THe dictionary in predictive texts does not store your added words for very long, i would guess about 2 days which really annoyed me. I do like the slide, and how it locks and unlocks when you slide it. The phone is quite slick, and nice and fits in the pocket easily. It is pretty small when it is not slid out. Nice phone, but it has failed me recently so i've had to go back to an old nokia in the meantime till I get a new phone. I think i'll go back to the nokia's or sony ericcson's as I didn't have these problems with them.

i so agree with Nik. i own this phone for less half a year and the phone just dead on me a week ago, and i'm happily using my SE K810i at the moment. initial symptoms were failure of camera and after that the lights starts going crazy AND i can't even tell whether my phone was on the next day. 3 of my other friends who own this same phone share the same fate as me. i wonder is it something wrong with the hardware with this model or what. anyway, i will not spend my money on another samsung phone ever again, this phone sucks big time!

I have had this phone now for about 6 months and its not that bad. At the end of the day it works well as a phone. Camera is not very good but I use a phone for pictures so I don't care about this feature. The battery life is really good, and so far I have had no problems with the phone (unlike sony ericssons and nokias that constantly freeze on you and reboot when least expected). 9/10

I both it couple of monts ago and: battery live kills me - one day it goes to silente mode you never know and does not ringing (calls and alarms), louspeaker also get off of cold outside and you are ouside, camera - very pure and what is worse kesy - no bluetooth is working with> I tested SE, Plantronics, Motorola, Samsung - a lot of drops and quality very bad

SOMEONE PLS HELP ME ME ME. i just bought the phone about 6 hours ago. when i pressed on, the screen and the colourful things ran on the screeen( normal) but it then when to this little message, six pages long, but like codes on it. it said press '0' to exit. i pressed and it came to this window saying 'upload data to PC'. i tried pressing all the buttons on the phone and it kept showing this window. i also tried to off and on it. same thing happen. HELP ME!!!

The battery started to get warmed within 3 minutes of usage, I guessed this is still an ongoing problem cos I just gotten mine 1 week ago. Of cos, after using cellphone for so many years, I have the 'feel' that this phone does get heated up easily than other models that I had used before. One thing 'special' about this phone is when charging the LCD screen won't dim off, so when you are charging at night beside your bed, you will have a 'lighting' effect. I love samsung phones but I am quite disappointed with this model. As for U700, be prepared to get used to the sensitive touch screen if you intend to buy one.

got this phone the othr day. i dnt c all the fuss...its a gr8 PHONE!! coz thats wat it is, a phone...not a miricle machine. has an alright camera, but thats what i have a real digital camera 4. mp3 is ok, but thats wat i have an ipod 4. cute little design...very light weight, unlike my old chunky n80. end of the day...it is a nice little phone..i really like it :)

to reduce consumption, dont use 3g unless surfing or video call. more standby time on gsm/gprs mode. heat still ok as long as does not explode :)

Hi, i have this phone. The battery life is poor!! Does anyone know how to turn the phone to fully silent? I have put the silent profile, and even after sending a text. When the balance comes up, there will be a noise coming off the phone.

i just had this fone for 4 days now and the only problem is the heating of the back of the fone especially if ur into voice calls more than text. The fone is nice but the only disadvantage is the battery... i like surfing the net thru this fone. I read the manual but does not state how many hours is the inital charge. shoot me an email if u have info on this. im beginning to regret this fone..

my comments on likes and dislikes on the sgh z720 likes: 1. stylish 2. good and creative dialing display 3. wonderful screen display 4. sound quality is good, but not loud 5. internet surfing is really fast 6. has 3g and can view microsoft word microsoft powerpoint and many other doc. 7. it plays many types of music files 8. it has Utrack services, therefore if i lose my phone, i can trace the thief's sim card number and report it to the police dislikes: 1. short battery life 2. long charging hours 3. clear camera, but u must be motionless... 4. battery gets extremely hot while charging and using functions such as camera, sms, media player for more then 7 mins. 5. cannot use animated emotions! 6. very bad video recording, can't hear the sounds clearly and the video quality is really blurrrr 7. speaker for hearing calls and playing music are the same speaker. therefore the music quality is not as good. sony ericsson would be ideal for music. 8. headphone is a complete rubbish... 9. 3D sound only available on headphones, and the quality of headphone sound is ridiculous. 10. cannot access hotmail and MSN! my advice: 1. buy it if you are a person who loves slider phone with just a good design. 2. prepare to charge long hours for a complete charge. 3. you better buy a second spare battery as the battery will become flat before you know it. 4. buy it if you do not mind the slow camera which cannot capture moving objects (even slight movement like a blink of an eye would blur the entire picture)

Switch to Sony ericsson thats what i say!. Samsungs are not good, they look nice but the functionalitly have not been well thought out at all. the battery life on The Z720 is pants, it doesnt have multi-functionality but it does look good, i have the vodafone maclaren merceded edition + it looks fab but it sucks!. im going for the sony K850i. sony's rock!

Yes this phone does support java games but you need to download games via internet(in Phone) but not thru usb or bluetooth..the battery life is soo weak! when i was playing a game for about 15min, the battery almost died on me...i pause the game and charged my phone, waiting for it to be fully charged feeling pissed

Absoluyely rubbish, i have has this phone since april 07 previously i had the d600 and lets just say i wish i had stuck with the d600. simple things i could do with the d600 like set songs as my alarm i can not do with the z720. other than looking good the phone is hopeless. it is slow and i feel like i have taken a step back instead of forward

I have had the Z720 since April. -and I'm thinking about changing to the u700.. I can't live with the downsides of z720: - slooow camera.. Forget pictures of moving objects! (not even with low res!) - when you unlock the phone, the "phone is unlocked"-message stays visible far too long and there's no way to get it away before it's "finished"-so to say.. - the phone has indeed frozen a couple of times (I think it restarted itself like two or three times..) - No music whilst sending sms etc. - No Mp3 for message tones (though you may use your own poly/mono/.amr-tunes - battery life (lasts up to 6 days with ONLY sending sms, but maximm two days if you take pictures (the phone's backside gets quite hot whilst charging. I'd definitely go for the u700. -it's newer and more slim, and all these bugs are probably (hopefully) fixed. - I know you can listen to music while you multitask on the U700!! - the U700 looks stunning! (with a huge mirror when the phone is off or dark.

Not sure how it could be Vodafone exclusive, they dont even have HSDPA. Telstra just launched it on its Next G network meaning big coverage on little phone. And finally samsung have let you choose your own message tone!

Got the phone about three months ago on Vodafone contract. When I was first ordering a phone I was going to buy the D900, the sails person talked me out of it and said it had all of the same capabilities and more than the D900 because it was "exclusive" to Vodafone. I questioned whether it had a flashlight on the back which he assured me it did and subsequently did not, he assured me that with this phone I would be getting free Vodafone live which I found out yesterday was a lie and that my contract has been "miss sold" after I wrote a letter to the chief executive. When I received the phone I was a little disappointed, with it not havening a flash some pictures that were took in the dark were poor, it has the poor Vodafone interface on the menus etc., the finish is not as good as the D900 although the camera and other features are quality. All in all I would suggest the D900, the U600 or the Sony Erricson k810i

Great phone BUT for me fatally flawed. I use two headsets, one in office and one on the road. CANNOT do this with this phone. Also I HEAVILY use my mobile so tend to 'tether' it to my laptop to keep it charged. Samsung DISABLE Bluetooth when you do this, how bloody stupid!!!!!!!!!!! I just wanted to say that this is one of the best phones i've ever had. It does everything i want it to do, has a great music player, excellent picture quality and excellent sound quality. i've not had any problems with the so called heating up of the battery and i would say this is a must for those who want a music player, camera and phone in one!

Indeed the battery life is short. It couldn't last me a day. BTW, is there anyway to mute the phone w/o going thru "Options", check the "Voice", etc? I saw an symbol (that looks like for mute function" on the "#" key but tried it. It didn't work.

I have had this phone for the past 4 weeks and I cant see what all the problem is about ! Im in the UK and I have java games downloaded onto it ! Ok so the battery life is not great . Ive not noticed that the battery gets any hotter than any of the other phones ive had over the years . Is the java functionality network dependant?? Give the phone a go . Ive swapped manufacturers to get this phone and dont regret it for one minute. I work in the mobile industry and have seen the usual probs with most of the manufacturers but this one doesnt seem to cause probs on the vodafone network !

i have been thinking about purchasing this phone for a little while now and after reading the feedback on it has only made me want it more, if its only problem is that the battery gets hot then thats is no biggie. yes you can have music playing while txting - but not using the camera. The video like so many camera phones does strange things if moved while recording. Ring tones and pictures must be saved to local memory and moved to the mem card latter - very annoying after nokjia and motorollas. The camera is not as good as a sharp 902sh. Infact its pretty dire over all. Otherwise much the same as the d900 + hsdpa. Only phone I would consider going to is hte 910sh when we get off our arses and release it here. The preprod test phone we have is a bit buggy still.

Hi those whom who 1 2 buy Z720, PLEASE.......PLEASE......DON'T BUY. This is the 1st Samsung brand h/phone I have own & using for the pass 20+ years history. Yes, it is slim look nice & slide is smooth, when you talk for less then 25min, the phone set was so hot. more importantly is the battery is SO BAD & NOT LASTING, morning 8AM I have it full charge before I go to work, I use the phone for normal received & calls out, by the time before I finsih my work @ 8pm, the battery already run flat. So PLEASE take my advised, THINK TWICE before you are buying this phone.

I am very impress with the look and features of this phone. But very shock to find that the back side of the key pads heats up very fast. Maybe this is the first batch of phone, still need to give it more time to Samsung to check the problem. Another set back, i notice that this phone does not support JAVA games...so bored without games.

to the 3 person from below, its in the phone settings that says keypad tones. just reduce the volume and u wil not hear the keypad tones anymore. and to the 2nd from below, it doesnt have wifi, so it doesnt do full web page viewing. and to the one just below me, d900 is quite a good phone but just like the z370, u cant have ur mp3 songs set as sms tone. this phone is not bad but seems like the top right corner button is not too useful for a light gprs user like me. wat if i accidentally press on it and enter gprs without knowing.. and when i'm stil not very used to this phone, i always punch the button accidentlly, thinking it wil bring me to where i want. then have to exit out again when i realise it.. other than that, its just fine. slider mechanism definitely better than w850i. z720 exits applications and locks straight! not like w850i, u gotta exit exit and exit all the way in order to lock the phone. what's the point of having a slider in the first place..?

s, the manual states that you can choose which memory will you use when taking pictures or videos. Plus you can make your own folder. All samsung new 3g and hspda phones are fully customizeable.

Heyy. well I got this phone (the Z720) about a week ago, and so far, its great. Its nice and slim, very easy to slide up and its got all the really really good feautures e.g. best camera, 3g (which rocks by the way!) and msn etc....x the only thing i do not lyk about it is the style. at first i was like...sexyy, but now i am kinda thinkin its a bit masculin. i lyk the d900 look best (yes, they are different designs)and the WORST thing about this phone is the homepage. there is only 2 themes which totally suck and its just not vry sexy 'inside'....but overall, very nice phone and i wood recommend. deff betta than the d9oo (talkin bwt feutures) okiie well cya x

the d900 can beep if you so desire. No you can not lock the slider. Yes hte z720 is amazing. Yes I have a d900 in my hand - thus the typos. Cameras are not as good as the sharp 903 - but ok for mms or basic stuff. very slow time to shoot. The z720 has hte same camera as the 900.

i think that the software of vodafone can not be changed, unless you flash the phone with the original software, but and don't know how to do that! the battery is smal and slim, so we dont expect a big battery life. mine lives 3 days in average, but if we dont stop playing with it, like bluetooth and always taking pictures its obviously that the battery life becames shorter...

this mobile doesn't have fm radio neither tv-out function! this phone its NOT ugly, like someone said... it has a wonderful screen, very good actually, and if it had the size of d600 would never get a screen like that and wouldn't be so thin.. in fact in the hand its not big, its perfect! the d600 its not thin and in the pocket its unconfortable... z720 comes with 30mb and not 20mb!!vodafone really modified the original software... but perfectly operational! i think the original software its better...

this phone is same size as d900. the d900 is something big and i say it big is ugly. samsung should size the size of d600 as still the best size and stylish phone for samsung. i would say this phone is ugly in style but excellent features but i prepare style.

I got this phone today and Vodafone UK have changed all of the software. There is no sign of the new interface or the Google facilities. The phone looks and feels great but I would like to put the original firmware on it. Does anyone know where i could find it in the UK, I cant even find accessories on line for it.

It has a slightly different design but it supports 3G in the form of 1.8 mbits HSDPA, which means that in countries like Denmark where i'm from it won't be able to use more than those 1.8 mbit, when i'm actually paying for 3.6 mbit! yup, i agree with one of the guy. samsung never made quadband plus 3g phone, second to you also for the battery. still hoping i760 is a quadband and having 300 hours standby and 6 hours talk. hear your greateat fans, samsung! and fullfiled it!

No doubt the features is superb. But how about ringtones and sms tones? Ussualy Samsung can not vibrate and ringing at the same time. That's the main reason that still keeping me away for buying Samsung cell. Battery life and overpriced are another issues. I also hope Samsung will release this kind of form cell with Quadband along with UMTS/HSDPA. Come on Samsung we're living in the small world, buying another phone when traveling to Canada or US is just wasting money.

This phone looks nice. I think it will hit the market. But my great concern in Samsung Mobile is the Battery talk-time duration. It seems like their battery never last long. Currently I'm owning Samsung X820, the slimmest mobile phone,of which is nice and expensive as well here in Tanzania, but the big problem is the battery. Since I bought it, it hardly lasted for two complete days. So my advice to Samsung Designing Engineers is to deeply design the batteries that will have at least 5hours talk-time so that we can have more time of using them before charging, especially for the businessmen who most of the time travels. Yeh the HSDPA doesnt matter for me its just the 3 mp camera and vga video recording i want and also being able to save pics and vids directly to memory card as you cant do this on the D900.

I may not own a samsung Z720.Wats with HSDPA?Is it is alot faster than a 3g service? The design may be a little "same old". But, I was impressed that samsung could slim down a 3g phone to soo thin and yet retain a good 3mp camera and a whole lot of functions. There's one advice to phone buyers. Never buy a phone for it's music player. As for me, I own my own samsung mp3 player. The quality rocks and it's better than over-advertised i-pods. Anyway, my point is to keep your music players and mobile phone seperate. That's only an opinion!

Card phones: Interestingly this is a new segment started by Samsung "calculator" phone P300..and now we have LG KG99 (http://www.slashphone.com/89/4734.html) and HTC "Muse" looks pretey much same but i dont know the dimensions. 1.P300 "calculator" phone. & P310. How come all samsung phones look almost the same now?

Very similar to the D900, only additional feature by the looks of it is the VGA Video call camera. Its thicker aswell, not much different, still a good phone though. O and ofcourse HSDPA, which is a further improvement on 3G i suppose.
