  • compared to 2G = NO , WiFI= Yes 2G (original GSM) was deliberately designed to be very power-efficient only for low-data rate voice services. 3G was designed to be more spectrally efficient and to deliver higher-rate data services, but at the expense of using more power. Specifically: - 2G uses 200kHz channel vs 5MHz for WCDMA (25x more). Power is roughly proportional to bandwidth - GSM used a very power-efficient constant envelope modulation scheme (GMSK). 3G uses CDMA and higher order modulation (up to 16QAM or even 64QAM), which needs much better linearity and hence the radio draws far more power. 2.5G (GPRS) and 2.75G (EDGE) use QAM, which deliver more data and are more spectrally efficient (bps/Hz) so they coverge with 3G somewhat. You can improve battery life significantly by turning of 3G and only using 2G if you stick to voice but if you are going to web-surf then the better data-rate (bps) and data efficiency probably make 3G more efficient.

  • Hi 4ming. Motorola xt5 xt502� runs android 2.1 with 5mp camera. Motorola xt3 xt502� also runs on android 2.1 with camera upgraded to 5mp due to update of 2.1 from 1.6 android. Both are almost the same.

  • Hey, I am from India using moto quench xt502. The phone rocks. I upgraded to 2.3 os by using cyanogen mod for a similar cell called z71. So no issue on os upgrade though is not available officially. I have a doubt though, does it have a front cam? I mean it is not specified anywhere and I cannot use it either. But I wonder what's besides the earpiece those two boxes or dots.

  • Hi aishish. I converted the videos to 3gp. now its working fine without any restarts. I also found out that the phone handles 25 fps videos fine but not 30 fps. Mp4 video with 25 fps which I tested has a good clarity.

  • For installing FROYO UP needn connect to pc. If your question so abt connecting as aan external device, go to notification bar after connecting the data cable n mount device. . Tats it. :) Hope this answered ya question. .

  • How do I know ?? :P This mobile runs fine on a third party FROYO. Moto will give an official release after a lot of tests. Lets hope for the upgrade. Mypersonal opinion will be a big YES :)

  • rahul, guess u just bght ths phone. i too had the same issue and spent sleepless nghts to find the solution. the movies which u r playin mght not support the pixels of the cell. so u hav to download a movie converter namely Freemake, convert the movie in 3gp, 240x320 pixels and then try runnin on ur cell. it must work fine. cell wud still switch off but far less times than earlier. i hav 20 movies after convertin in just 8gigs along with 800 mb of songs. cheers

  • Try removing and Re-inserting the SD card and switch on the phone. It will work fine. Then, open ROM manager and -> backup and Restore -> restore to your previous backup (android 2.1). then again reinstall 2.2 if you want to. and. . @ALL I would suggest you guys to revert to android 2.1 until moto releases a perfect FROYO for XT3 and XT5.

  • There is no specific soft to connect to PC. And wat do you mean storing apps in mem card. It actually installs applications from market directly and deletes the backup itself. But still very few application set-ups are available online for download. And I think your question was abt installing the apps to mem card since they are taking up your phone memory. In that case, you need to update it to android 2.2. android 2.1 doesn't have the feature. Update your XT3 or XT5 to android 2.2 by the steps which I have posted previously. This might have answered your questions.! :)

  • Ya friend. . The process is the same for both XT3 and XT5. Carefully follow the steps. I don't want to hear a negative reply from you. Be patient. The phone respond like for half an hour while the first boot.

  • step by step process to froyo(which I noted and followed): 1)Root the phone with UniversalAndroot. (http://www.filefactory.com/file/b4e1a2f/n/Unive­rsalAndroot-1.6.2-beta5.apk) 2) Install RomManager (clockwork mod) from android Market. 3)Open the Rom Manager and click on "Flash ClockworkMod Recovery" --> Select "Commtiva Z71" phone 4)Then Backup your original ROM (scroll down to see the back up rom option). The ROM will be backed up on the SD card. Save a copy of it elsewhere safely in your PC. go thru this site for detailed description of backing up ya ROM. 5)Download the following files from the respective links ROM (2.2) --> update-cm-6.1.2-Z71-signed.zip (http://www.filefactory.com/file/b4e1b4b/n/updat­e-cm-6.1.2-Z71-signed.zip) Google Apps --> gapps-mdpi-20101220-signed.zip (http://www.filefactory.com/file/b4e1b9g/n/gapps­-mdpi-20101220-signed.zip) Camera Patch --> Patch_Cam_CM-6.1.2-Z71.zip (http://www.filefactory.com/file/b4e1ba3/n/Patch­_Cam_CM-6.1.2-Z71.zip) copy these files to the sd card (do not make any folders). 6)(FLASHING ROM) Open RomManager and click "Install ROM from SD card" select "update-cm-6.1.2-Z71-signed.zip" tick for Backup existing Rom and Wipe Data and Cache (very very important) click ok to reboot and install The flashing process should take 5-10 minutes installing everything and then 10-20 minutes during the first boot. Please be patient during this process. 7)After the phone boots you will see new ROM (froyo). There will be no market app (no need to panic). Now open RomManager and click "Install ROM from SD card" select "gapps-mdpi-20101220-signed.zip" tick only for "Wipe Data and Cache" Ok to reboot and install 8)After phone reboots the setup process starts (as if the phone was started for the first time). Complete the setup process and after that you'll see the market app and other apps. 9)Now again open RomManager and click "Install ROM from SD card" select "Patch_Cam_CM-6.1.2-Z71.zip" tick only for "Wipe Data and Cache" (i think no need to tick it also, because if you tick it, after the phone reboots the setup process repeats once again) Ok to reboot and install ~~~ PATIENCE IS THE KEY TO YOUR SUCCESS. DON'T THINK IN ANY POINT OF TIME, YOUR PHONE IS NOT RESPONDING AND INTERRUPT THE PROCESS WHICH I THINK OUR FRIEND killa MIGHT HAVE DONE ~~~

  • Visit "Cyanogenmod.com". The step by step procedure is clearly given for XT3 update to android 2.2. This is very safe to do n am telling outta my experience. I would like to repeat one mandatory step you shouldn't skip (its already listed in the forum). Always CLEAR DATA AND CACHE while reboot. And don't worry its safe to do those n I tried it on my own Mobil. All the best. FROYO on XT3: Pros: 1.The user interface is great. Also U get some advanced "stuff" lol. 2. Long press back key to kill the application u wana exit. 3. Install applications into memory card. (Ofcourse the above 3 points r characteristics of FROYO. Ppl who doesn't have idea note.) Cons: 1. Battery backup is almost same as that of 2.1 but not worse. 2. Proximity sensor doesn't work when you are on call.(have to check for some third party appcn)

  • If you want 2.2 rom for XT3 then search for boston mania.you can get custon roms for XT3.but you would have to root you Xt3 with Z4mod.you would also require rom manager to backup your stock os.

Also one more great news for Indians or ppl in India. Reliance GSM cards are now pre-equiped with 3G. I got one and ....... guess what!!!!!??? My HSDPA(GPRS in 3G) speed is 4.5Mbps Max download and 4.1 Mbps Max upload speed. . Ha ha am very happy. . Wooooo!!!! All u have to do is to get a reliance GSM & activate mobile internet pack of Rs. 99. Free usage 2.5 GB per month.   • Hi Jeevish, Google for the manual GPRS settings. It takes seconds to configire. Settigs - wireless and networks - mobile networks - access point names - new. now, add the access point setting for bsnl. google to find the same. I told you how to. :) Good luck.

  • Long press on the file you want to send. you will get an option to send. Select via bluetooth. Done. it will search for devices. pair the device id you want to, permanently. This is abt if you want to send. (outgoing !!! lol) To recieve files via bt, switch on bt. go to bt settings. clock on 'make my device discoverable'. Then, ask ya friend to send the file u want. Enjoy !!!! (Incoming Done !!! lol )

  • Hi Vaibhav. This is an awesome mobile for its price. See, considering your budget, this is THE IDEAL phone 4 u. Cuz, u gotta go beyond 24k to get better phones. Don,t worry abt d camera quality. U know, camera quality depends on the image processing software. U know, in this, images are processed at 5MP. SMILE :) !!!! One more good news is that, the flash is PRO. Images are awesome even if taken in dark room. Battery is a very big problem. Can,t blame the battery. Its android 2.1 drinking the battery. Its sure that, 2.2 froyo upgrade will be available this year considerimg the specs of the phone. (man!!! its got one of the best chipsets.) Don,t worry abt battery. its gonna be fine after 2.2 upgrade. And yeah. The volume is not too high like Sony walkman series phones. But the volue can be compared with Nokia E series phones.   • Just bought this phone on New Year in Chennai, INDIA. Its the best in class for cheap android phones. Comes with android 2.1. and on the box it says 3MP cam but when you take pics check out the resolution, Its 5MP to my surprise. and Got it confirmed from Motorola as it has Gorilla Glass. We may get Froyo update in Q1 2011.

Skip those. this ia ma 1'st moto n its sooooo easy to handle n use. ofcourse may b cuz of android. anyways, i love this piece n I highly recommend this for those who wanna get it. .   • as for the internet, u can easily use it on this phone. call ur network operator and they'll help u to install n start. i used their service n they were very helpful. secondly, it is difficult to use internet thru ths cell in ur laptop or desktop, the settings are weird to use on both computers. they say i'll hav to install PC suite, the one we hav in nokia phones for the internet drivers. try it, may b it'll work. my concern is, its an amazing phone but the battery life is more than worse. within seconds it goes from 100% charged to 90% and in an hr or so goes to 60%. if u use internet, it wud immediately drop to 30%. has some one got some answers to ths, may b battery boosters or enhancers? thx.

  • Hey Vivek,I would suggest to buy this phone..b'coz it is worth buying it,with most of the good features in it.I am using Motorola phones from the day I started using mobiles.Frist thing its really nice as per the look wise & its user interface is very nice.But the battery is poor I think & I am not sure of the track ball.(I do remember my Bro-in-law telling the track balls is a big faliure in HTC)so he told the same thing in me not to go for it.but I am still intersted to go for Quench or charm.I am almost into to the Quench & the 2nd option is charm.But pleas do check about track ball I am not sure of Motorola,but I knew they are best in class service,hope its not a faliure thing.

  • @Radio The specifications list shows that the phone has FM radio. RDS service depends on the region you are in. FM Radio functionality is available in devices using hardware. You will not be able to "install" an FM Radio through the Android Market! Does anyone know if this phone has multi touch capability? For pinch to zoom perhaps?

I had read all the opinion regarding this phone since I also want to buy this phone but now decided to wait for FroYo update since it gives better performance. I had also read somewhere that the phone has performance issue but since it uses Eclair it uses its internal memory for app storage which is not as fast as SD & cant give you the fast mulitask performance. Also the phone uses internal storage as RAM so it also deceases the speed. I think its better to wait for 450% faster froyo...

  • Vivek ... Go for this phone. It rocks. Till date didn't had any issues with it have installed quite a load of apps from the market. Camera is good though its not at par with Digi Cams. Though the camera app shows 5M option stick to 3.2M in the application as mentioned in the back cover. Battery life is good I charge it once in 2 days with moderate usage. Best value for Money in my opinion.

  • Hi all, I have this phone bought for Rs.10,600 with 4multiplex tickets. This phone is not really that bad when it comes to surfing net but yes, there are a few other things that you would not like are as follows. - camera is wrost why they are giving flash with the camera when there camera is not working properly, poor quality pics even if you click with flash pic will always be dark. motorockr was awesome, this phone is a failure when it comes to camera. - whenever you use scroller, search will automatically open which becomes irritating. - music quality is good but not loud enough, back speaker is again not good like in most of the mototrola phones - one day i switched off my phone, next day it kept on rebooting and never came to the menu screen. - mototrola should have worked on the basic things before making this phone and they are offcours camera, back speaker. MOTOROLA- PLEASE don't ur customer's down. After all you are a six sigma company believe in quality. Please do something.   • HI Vivek, Go for mobile which has glass display since the reading of text and seeing movies is very good if you have glass screen so all companies are movies to use that, lg optimus dont have the glass screen, it can damage easily. if you are going for android then go for mobile having more memory cus in Android you find lots of free apps and games and 100 to 500MB is useless. If you are not going to watch movies or use too many apps then go for motorola quench xt3 or xt5 both are very good

  • Thanks a lot guys.:) Today i checked both of them in univercell. I was not satisfied wit moto blur ui but lg optimus one has an excellent capacitive screen and latest android. It also beats moto in looks. Optimus gt 540 has a resistive screen, which otherwise would ve gone for tat. Galaxy 3 is also good but i didn't like the silver front and black back combination which is the only color available in all stores. So optimus one does well in all departments. But inclusion of camera flash would ve been great. Well, tats not a dealbreaker. I would consider optimus one. Thanks amit and venkat. Which phone do u guys use?

  • Hi Rahul, The Phone is good but dont feel solid in Hands as Samsung wave. Here is the review Cons: 1)The battery life is low 2)Dont play avi files, shuttering is seen for normal files also. 3) music player dont have equalizers 4) Camera quality is like 1.3MP not 3.2MP 5) using track ball will sometimes(most) activates the search key. 6) Facebook and Twitter dont refresh automatically, you need to do manual refresh. 7) slow in downloading data from network, fast on wifi only 8) Low space available for apps (only 100 MB) 9) Processor wont handle if you run 6 apps, you need to kill the apps. 10) Messenger is worst 11) sound from back speaker is monotonous and not good to hear Pros: 1) Screen has nice resolution and very clear than many nokia devices. 2) gmail refreshes automatically and gets the mail (Though gtalk dont work as expected) 3) Androd 2.1 is faster than previous versions and you find lots of apps 4) Music quality is very good when you use creative or sony headphones you fell like listening from walkman. 5) good response from screen. 6) sound from ear speaker is good the phone is very good to use if you are not using facebook,twitter on mobile or using mobile to see the videos on journey.

  • dont,worry charging its take long time.you charge at the last point, when it is fully charged the call button glow then disconect iam using the divece iam verry happy use an external memory card,hannging of this phone is common becase running lot of applications at the same time,check all the running applicatons and stop each of them because it is not a basic phone its a smart phone.

  • hi, i bought this cell last week n am pretty happy with the performance. phone has really gud screen, is fast and can easily install ample applications frm andriod market. if user has a GPRS connection on this phone, it is no less than a mini computer. few drawbacks is the battery life is not as good as it seems. secondly movies dont run continuously as the cell gets restarted after roughly 5 mins from the start. i showed it to motorola service center and they say it is the OS which needs to be re-installed but he is not sure. is there anyone who is using ths cell and facin the same issue? i'd appreciate if anyone provides me the solution. thnx.

  • I gues since u are using the LG optimus you are just boasting about it . There is a lot of difference between the resistive screen and the capacitive screen. If you are a touchie person u can never like the resistive screen and that makes every thing void even game playing or any thing . So i would suggent , please dont get in the LG optimus into the game between Motorola Quench and Galaxy

  • use it for 1 week internal are too low for the huge amount of android apps.. not suitable for greedy user, but suitable for budget user. app from market are easy to install and uninstall, so a bit less problem there...

  • Bought a USB - MicroUSB cable for 170Rs. Hope this will be the path for software upgrades if at all there is going to be Froyo for this piece of gem. BTW I tried transfering only files (mp3, movies, photos etc.. ). Yet to explore more.

  • Prakash - thanks for the info. Buy connectivity with the pc i meant to connect with data cable. Every time u need to upgrade the software or install a new app. u will have to search for free wifi zone or pay the high internet browsing charges to the service providing company. Mobile internet isnt cheap in india. More over most of the pc users in india dont have a wifi enabled pc's as yet.

  • hi all, i hav already install Cyanogenmod for tis phone :) it is android 2.2.1 version. u can go to tis website : i already put on a tutorial for motorola at the comments ther. it should be able to help all for those who wan to flash it into cyanogenmod ( android 2.2.1 build)

  • I'm frm Mumbai n an LG Optimus GT540 user. For ppl who are confused as to which phone to buy : Multimedia: Samsung Galaxy 3 and Motorola Quench (as some1 just said) have below average cameras. LG Optimus GT540 offers great quality Video recording and a good enough camera, with autofocus. Music in LG Optimus is awesome, tho speaker output for Rock/Metal music isnt great, for Bollywood/Pop/Hip-Hop, its good. Gaming completely sucks on Samsung Galaxy 3, great on LG Optimus Performance: LG Optimus - accessible Internal storage - 130mb (its official 2.1 update is available now) Motorola Quench - 100mb Samsung Galaxy 3 - guessing its 150-170mb (not sure) LG Optmius has a resistive screen (as good as an average capacitive screen, but the performance is much better than Samsung Galaxy 3 as the touchscreen response depends upon the CPU and RAM available, too. Winner - LG Optimus GT540 and if u can wait for 1 to 1.5 months, LG Optimus One will be available for Rs.13-14,000 (approx)

  • Ok abhinav, go for motorola quench xt3. I m also a big gamer and app geek on mobiles. For gaming and apps ,quench xt3 is best in this class,and great due to its hvga resolution. And never think of buying sony xperia x8 or x10 mini.these phones sucks in battery ,in gaming,in music management, a full dissapointment. Out of the following phones can u tell me which is best. a.sony ericsson x8-(i tried this phone, great tough screen and quiet sensitive,It also looks great) b.quench xt3-(It is a slow kind of phone) c.Galaxy 3-(great touch screen and like this phone too, But only problem is its resolution,I need to play high end Android games but its have WQVGA and those games need HVGA) I have been told that Android OS can be updated any time we want on a phone.If its true i can update the OS myself.Thanks for ur suggestions Amit.   • Hi abhinav, There is no official announcement about lg optimus one in india.but according to some websites,it will be available in begining on december. One of the biggest plus point of optimus one is that it comes wid android 2.2 froyo,which is 450% faster than 2.1 eclair,also u can install apps on sd card which is very much needed in todays world.also better web browsing,low battery consumption 3g and wifi tethering. It will be available around 13000rupees. And if u spend 2000more ,so u can go for optimus chic.ok

  • Hey Amit, I m also looking for Lg optimus One , its a great phone. But it is not in market right now, i m in Bangalore,people even doesn't know about this phone. Do u have any idea when it will be launched in india or in banaglore. Videocon zeus is great phone,but videocon phones are not that reliable.

  • Guys,dont buy this phone,because this phone doesn't have autofocus and also its video recording resolution and fps is very low. Instead buy spice mi300 or videocon zeus.these co. Are new bt product is great. And if u dnt trust these companies so wait for lg optimus one p500.thanks

  • Dun be happy with the freebies you are getting. motorola is nt dat gud brand. My friend had moto ming and moto service is real bad. Not at all experienced staff to sort out the mess in the phones.

  • Guys, i just bought this mobile yesterday and its cool. It comes with Android 2.1 (Eclair) version. So far i haven't completely explored all the features since my internet is not yet active on the mobile but, i guess this is the best motorola can give at such a competitive price. Samsung is class-less, Xperia x8 comes with same config but slightly higher price and htc wildfire also is around 14K but the OS is not upgradeable. This looks to be a safe bet for all android enthusiastic crowd.

  • well, ther is various of choice for the QWERTY touch screen on tis phone. so no worries, is really worth buying :) previously i was still tinking of getting the nokia 5230 or 5530. but i came upon to tis beatiful phone which is fair for the price. So far, the only disadvantage is the internal memory for usage is 100MB. Is not enough to install plenty of apps n games :)

The phone is very good for it's price. It is produced by FOXCONN, and it's hardwdare is in class with HTC Hero, HTC Legend and so on.

  • Quench XT3 is not a 100% Moto phone like Milestone, XT20, Droid X, DEXT, Backflip, Flipout. It is an ODM phone made by some asian manufacturers for Motorola. Motorola just add some parts and sell the phone under his brand.

  • Low end or not, Android doesnt require a license to be purchased, correct? If so, 2.1 should be there considering its 'free'. The x10 was in development yonks ago, before 2.1 was even out.

  • the problem is in order to use it you need a memory card or if the mwmory card is corrupted you can`t use it and it battery takes less than one hour but the rest is well and well
