Battery will last 4-5 days with normal GSM usage. It will be 1-2 days with GPRS usage. Photos are not bad. Videos are only 3gp, and not good. Sounds are good. Headphones are good. No mp3 file search function. It can't be used as a modem and pc webcam. It has a default setting for ringtones. It is always ascending.

Hi, I am using this phone since December-2009. Overall it is ok. Caller sound quality is superb even in a noisy environment. Keypad is bit rough. Videos are not good. Photos are not bad for a 2MP cam. Can't install games if java file size is over 400kb. Can't install unsigned applications. I think Nokia 5130 XpressMusic is better than this.

Love the candybar design. Software is a little buggy. I cannot seem to get my alarm clock to work regularly. Otherwise, the Java is quite limiting. I cannot load my dictionary. However I would recommend the phone to a friend. I do not have much use for internet on a phone!

Hi Benjamin, I've been using a VE538 for almost a year. While on a call, you may raise the volume by pressing the "up" button on the 4-way navigation key.

Hi Andrew, now i got your problem. Missed event notification works only via vibration. No choice! Just like ascending ring tone. We can do nothing about these things. I too seek a solution for this vibration.

Thanks CDTURBO for your answer.The MEI is on. My problem is that it only activates as vibration and not as beep(tone) as my previous Motorola W218.I tried different profiles and setting the vibration alert to none but nothing seems to work.

Hi, first obtain GPRS settings from the service provider. Set those saved settings as default. See whether browser works. If not rename saved settings as "Java". For example my operator is Etisalat. So, my internet profile is Etisalat. Rename it from Etisalat to Java. Now it works. Hope this helps.

Hi, I hope getting signed applications is not that much easy. Signing is a tedious task. Opera mini 4.2 has an international version signed with multiple certificates. It works. But you can't download files with it :( Apart from it, I couldn't find any signed application like MP3 Player, video player...etc. It's the annoying built-in security system. Hope this helps.

Hi Andrew J., sorry for delay. Did you check missed event indicator (MEI) under outdoor profile? MEI has only one option - either ON or OFF. You may try assigning vibration as your standard alert. Let me know how you are getting on. I do not use the Auto shutdown feature. I would check it and give a reply. Thanks.

has VERY bad video quality but photos are ok. The screen colors are changing if you change viewing angle :( the potraid mode sucks due to this problem. It takes only motorola headphones which are a bit xpensive. Has some bugs - ie the speaker stays open sometimes Overall it is a very good phone for it's price. I don't regret having it.

Although the battery life seems to be very much better than the other phones in the market (as per specifications), it seem that battery life is very much less than what is specified (310 hrs stand by and 6 hrs talktime.

Hi Andrew, there is no way to deactivate this default ASCENDING ring tone. It's common to all the profiles. Missed events you can set to beep.

I would like to ask VE538 owners if is there any way to deactivate that ascending tone default state for the ringtones. they play very soft for the the first 2-3 seconds and you can barely hear them.I've seen this option in the setings area of the menu in SE phones but there you can enable\disable it.Also I would like to know if it is possible to change the missed event indicator from vibration to beep (like i have it in my motorola w218) because if i don't have the phone in my hand the indicator doesn't justifies its purpose.thanks for reading this and i'm waiting for your answers:))

I bought it new for Rp 510,000 (US$ 51) + MicroSD 2GB Rp 90,000 (US$ 9). The box included charger, manual, and headset only. Main Camera, 3G, talk and text works fine, but the main disadvantages are: - so-so audio quality - ringtone's ring is very small at the first 5 seconds. It's hardly to hear the normal 3-5 sec SMS ring. You need the longer one. - Front camera quality is bad at poor lighting. - No volume rocker and camera key - The space key is at 1, while inserting symbol is at 0 (swap from nokia), rather difficult at first. By the end, it's really great phone with that price. But don't expected to much from the audio.

When disconnecting the phone from my computer the quickest way to have the phone respond so that I can use it is to unplug from the computer, remove the back and take the battery out and restart the phone this only takes 3 minutes before I can use the phone again, otherwise it just sits there "Please wait" displayed for in excess of 10 minutes. Yes I use the "Safely Remove Hardware" option on the computer. Diappointing!!!!!!

That is not a phone setting, it is a service provider setting. Ask your phone service provider to increase the number of seconds your phone neds to ring. FYI - with most service providers in North America, you can call your voicemail and there will be an option for "account preferences" where you can change this setting yourself

this one from the company is giving trouble to consumers.it has a huge software problem, and the driver provided by the company is not working and to add to it it can't be found on net. so those who are thinking to buy it, think twice. i would say don't even think about it. a complete waste of money

the motorola ve538 is quite a good entry-level 3G celfone. 2mp camera w/ vga for video calling,bluetooth,mp3 and mp4 capable with upto 4gb microsd memory. the only real downside is the lack of an fm radio and it would have been perfect and flash for the camera would have been a plus,too. it's size and colors are quite cute and handy though. a good one from motorola.

As VE538 is being sold for about US$178 where I live (unlocked, no contract), can you share with us as to what other 3G offerings are available from other brands for others to consider? As a Moto fan, I don't like this V538 much either. I don't mind old models, as if they're ex-top-of-the-line being sold at great discount. E.g. Moto K3 with mostly higher specs than VE538 is being sold for about US$128 (unlocked no contract) where I live.

I read various reviews thru (hardcopy) magazines and a review by mobile review... Yeah, Moto sure comes last in terms of providing the WORST voice quality....unlike certain brand which specializes in music phones... The music phone company also "claims" its 8mp cam phones are....until I read the various reviews in various magazines.

Agree in terms of specs...except when Moto "officially" says the phone supports 4GB, the phone probably can actually support 8GB, just like my experience with U9 & E8, A1600, if not Zn5. Yes, I still have my V3x (in active service!) and I've a 1GB card, and the V3x is a bit slow when searching photos. Another thing is the price...the original price of a V3x cost can buy 2 VE538

The phone is available in Hong Kong for about 2 weeks already. Priced at around USD$173 with no contract and unlock. The phone is actually OEM thru another manufacturer. Hence no Crystal Talk is available. (quite important for bar phones) The amazing part of this phone is the size! Is rather ironic to put it side by side with my good old Moto A835! Can't imagine how technology has advanced in the past 4 years for 3G phones.

Looks to be decent specs for entry level phone. Could be a good phone for prepaid service.
