Nokia 5140i - User Reviews

  • My 5140i is still going strong since 2005! Only problem is I can't find an internet supplier who will help me install configuration details so I can surf with the miniature screen. Can anyone help me with this? I live in Sweden and use the state system Telia.

  • *Correction: Motorola StarTAC

  • Of course a 3g sim will work in it. A 4g sim would also work in it. In fact a 3g/4g sim will even work in a Nokia 2110 or a Motorola MicroTAC. Thing is the phone itself is only 2g, and its the telco shutting down 2g, hence why the phone has to be replaced.

  • no you don't 3g sim works in it now worries was told same thing but when put new sim in to get memory off it works fine .. its hen we can't get covers we will

  • the best phone I have owned! I have had mine sine 2006,and,reluctantly,the 2g network will end,i have to replace it. as a tradie, couldnt go past the toughness of it. will miss my bestie!

  • It dosen't survive hot coffee

  • Benefon had GPS years earlier.

  • the first gps on cell phone. It was released couple of years later and was optional. The gps was in the bottom cover. Great phone

  • still on ebay just got one for mine

  • Great phone, I've used mobiles since mobiles were invented. This little phone was the best ever made for taking it tough and bouncing back. Easy to use, powerful and quick to navigate. Screen is a bit small, but the way it worked was fantastic.

  • men that phone is waterproof

  • I absolutely love the Nokia 5140i. I have had mine since it came out. Still working beautifully. Living in Malawi, the only problem i am facing is to obtain the original cover for the phone. Mine is deteriorating. I would appreciate it if you could help me in finding/ordering 3 or 4 covers. Would really appreciate your feedback. Regards, Tony

  • nokia 5140i is the best phone nokia has made

  • I got my Nokia 5140i the same year it came out. Have used it for 6 years now. Still have the original battery and it lasts for 6-7 days easily. 5140i is what a mobile phone should be. I have no bad words for this phone. It has fallen on solid ground from over 5m, been in water several times (I lost it one day and it staied under the rain outside thru the night - no problem for this phone:D ) Sry for my bad english But all i wanted to say was: Nokia 5150i - Best Mobile In The World

  • I have been demanded the covers of this model in my shop in suburban area here, it is not available by the suppliers here in Ethiopia. If it is possible to send me some from your old sock please I am here to appreciate your good service. My post box address is:- Mesfin Tadesse PO BOX 14588 Addis Ababa, Ethiopia

  • This phone is one of the best phones Nokia has ever produced in my opinion. It's built like a rock, has an impressive battery (up to now!) and the flashlight and compass come in very handy. You can do basic stuff on the internet with it (like googling something), though the phone isn't great surfing on the web. The keyboard just feels right. The phone can be used while showering (tested this), withstands short submerging in water (didn't do that one on purpose) and a LOT of abuse. I've had mine for nearly five years now and it hasn't given me the slightest discomfort. Nokia, please make more phones like this one. It's awesome.

  • i have this one before and it's so cool to have this kind of phone!!it is so handy and so smooth to handle with!i hope there is still more in the mall..especially in the nokia store's..

  • I still own one green 5140i and it still works as new ! I replaced only its battery with a slightly bigger one, 850 mah instead of 760, but the talk time is still as stated in the technical specs, and stand by time is at least 1 week if I use more my other phone (6710 Navigator). Only the rubber keypad wears quick, but you can find a replacement. I like a lot the thermometer feature and its rubber coating which saved the phone from a lot of accidents. Even my kid didn't manage to break it! When a lot of people still use the modern cellphones only at voice calls I don't see the reason why buy these expensive full-featured mini-laptops with big dusplays that eats battery quick!

  • One of the best Nokia's made ever... I'd really wait for re-release, with more available options. Works fine even in 2011, after few years of use. Too bad that memory is too small for storing music :( Survives much better than s*itty Nokia 5800, which got corrupt quite fast...

  • best phone nokia ever made , rugged phone as am pretty careless about dropping these had mine since 2004 new and still workin strong 2011. even though i dont use most of the features long as it texts & calls ! hope they do a re- release.

  • "Is this model discontinued"? Wow...that has to be the question of the year!

  • Yes it is discounted couple of years ago, your only way to get new housing is EBAY. No other cheap way.

  • I am still using my first and my only cellphone(Nokia 5140i). The plastic/rubber body is poorly damaged after 3 and a half years of use. And I couldn't find it in any nearby Nokia stores. Is this model discontinued?

  • On my Nokia 5100 (model before 5140i)I use upper arrow on joystick to turn on/off led ... :) Best regards .. hope I help !

  • hold the # button

  • how do you turn on/off flashlight for 5140i

  • 12345

  • How to restore factory setting in this Handphone? What is the security code number? Please advise. Thanks!

  • can u advise where i can buy the new case because now already torn

  • very good mobile keep it up

  • Have used my 5140i for 4 years- very impressed. Still has original battery. Love all the "boy" gadgets like thermometer, decibel meter and compass. Sadly have had to upgrade to E72 for work, and will miss my knockabout phone. Will keep it for camping weekends etc.

  • I used this phone since February 2007,i never changed its cover and its battery is still powerfull, what i like most is the fact that it doesn't take too long to be fully charged,1hour 30min,its full.I'm going to miss this one, I wish I could get a new one.

  • good keypad copy of Samsung SGH-E200 (E200)

  • the best ever for hard working men always dropping theyre phones cant live with out it!

  • Have this phone 4 years nao, I love it, but right nao the plastic rubber is putrid and drop in piece... Will miss it....

  • Its a spirit level.

  • the best

  • this phone is now the must paifull technological junk i have. the battery dies after 1 min phone calls after being charged fully. the pictures are badly pixelated.. my nokia 3310 was better. can't wait till a phone comes out witha battery that will last longer than 6months

  • What an amazing little phone! I have had mine for four & a half years now - the battery is the original one and I recharge it less than a new cellphone - acquired in January 2010. What a pity we can't still get these little phones on contract! the only reason I didn't get one on current contract is because they are longer available! (from South Africa)

  • Bluetooth handsets are a way more unreliable compared with wired ones. Like I said, this phone is The Phone what comes to reliability.

  • I am using nokia 5140i since january 2007. But some portions from the cover are getting out automatically, first the lid cover attached in the site meant for charging, then the volume keys and push to talk key... now it looks odd. Here at Guwahati,Assam (India)I am getting it trouble to change it with a new case and I am feeling that the product may have some manufacturing defect. Please comment at your earliest and suggest me how to change it here at our place.

  • The lack of bluetooth is a minus aswel, almost everyone calls in the car nowadays.

  • This is the ultimate cell phone as far as I know. It's got everything, absolutely everything you need and a lots more. The lack of memory card is the worst feature, but the battery life, the grip, the compass, the torch, and reliability covers the missing memory capacity.

  • to CPW, yes it is a level, it needs for compass.

  • It is really simply Superb.... Sound,WAP,Size,Display,Praise,Model,etc...etc Are very very Superb, And It would be Reached the First Rank If the Pannel is Available (!) +919865307477

  • Whats is the little bubble thing at the top of the phone for? is it a compass or spirit level or something else??

  • Back to basic! Bought all new today. 50 euros, lol. good phone.

  • Bought it back in 2006 and had it for a year before I traded it in for a Motorola RAZR, a year later I got this phone back after my Razr died and I still have it as my backup phone to this day. Software is total crap compared to my main (N900, previously N95) but this thing is built like a tank, four years in and the only thing that died was it's crappy camera that I never used, much better than my N95 which died after 1.7 years, via a broken battery cover and rejected SIM issue. The N900 I bought turned out to be a dud, so it's currently in service about to be replaced, I eagerly await it's return but untill then I have a phone that will sooner break the floor it falls on than itself. I'll probably never throw it away.

  • Have this handset since the end of 2005. Works terrific, solid and durable. Through all these years after all droppings on all kinds of surfaces, splashing all the water on it (even washing away dirt from it) it works great. Reception is excellent as with virtually any Nokia phone. While using it, only had couple of minor issues, like no sound until it get dry after getting wet (couple of times), one or two deliberate switching off... can't remember anything else. The body (the case) has more problems: Wrist/belt attachment accessory broke almost instantly, as it's made out of heavy duty (but constructed quite fragile) plastic and I'm not very careful user (why would I have gotten the model, otherwise, huh?). After numerous dropping of the unit on hard surfaces it finally got couple of cracks that I had to fix with a superglue. Nothing that would affect normal functioning though... Couple of major issues for me are: 1. Keypad: made of something too soft and too quickly wearing out. Had to replace it twice, since it quickly came to a condition when I simply couldn't see the marks on the buttons. Plus, keypad's frame detaches from the rubber-like keypad's surface almost instantly. Great disappointment. 2. Memory. No - MEMORY! M-E-M-O-R-Y!!!! It's so damn limiting to have only little more than 3 MB of memory and no memory card slot. I think Nokia did it intentionally, otherwise I wouldn't consider replacing this unit for another 5 years :) 3. Compass and thermometer are quite nice features to impress friends but not accurate enough to really use them "on the field", so to speak. I did love the flash-light, though, although lack of dedicated button for switching it on/off it makes it a little less convenient. Overall mark: 4.45667345686 out of 5 It's too old now. But there's still no alternative from Nokia :(

  • I ordered a blue 5140 from Dr wireless here in L.A. Ca. 3 years ago. I paid a modest $115 for it. It lasted 8 days. Diagnosed as unknown issue. Seeing as how it was made for the european market exclusively, repair shops were clueless.

  • Got this model for its' due construction to avoid braking it. Not sure if this was supposed to be a design feature but put it through the wash in my work cargo pants, 1hrs in a front loader at 50 degrees. Dried it out on a tea towl for two days charged it and low and behold I still have a phone. All I can say is nice work Nokia and if yours gets wet dry it out as you never know.

  • Hi all, the NOKIA 5140i is great nokia should create a memory card reader through the pop-port that would be amazing it would solve its small memory and turn it in to a great mp3 player with a small java applet, its worth it because the radio has a fine quality, unreal is such adapter with a blue tooth device, or better the upgrade to AD-5B, i keep on dreaming...

  • I Love my Mobil Than My Life ( NOKIA 5140i)

  • You can have bluetooth on 5140i by using the wireless bluetooth adapter Nokia AD-5B.

  • I had this phone from 2yrs and i m very happy with this phone. Sound is superb... MUST BUY

  • I had this phone for 2 years and was very satisfied with it. It really has great features, and only thing I can complain about is low camera quality and that it doesn't have bluetooth. and keyboard is a bit hard so typing is harder than on onther nokia phones. but overall this is amazing phone,so many features, long lasting battery, simple for use and I give it overall mark 9/10

  • I've had the phone for almost 3 years now, overall, I loved the ruggedness of it and the long battery life. Sadly, I fell from my bike today and the phone screen is now cracked... :( The fall was not that hard so I am a bit disappointed that the screen cracked so easily. Now the search for upgrade begins.

  • i have gthe next version up of this fone, the 5500 its alright, though i miss this model... the interface is different, and inferior. but that a problem with the OS which you can probs hack off, i just dont care that much. x

  • I live in Hong Kong and just brought the phone with HK$ 580, the compus is very good and so the sound metre and the theometer. the down side is its camera as I got a 6220 classic which is much better. I can connect the 5140i to my PC. But I can locate a GPS shell in Nokia outlet as I want to use 5140i in the country side not my 6220 as it is more expensive and easy to break in the tough terrain

  • Gooday I allso have 5140i .The phone is good & works weel. But the olny problem I have with it is it won't upload to the pc.It just says inhansment not supported.Using pc suite. So im stuck whith useless pitchers stuck in the thing.

  • Sadly Nokia doesn't know any better any more. Look at the Samsung B2700. It looks and does more, A REAL outdoor phone, and well priced. This will be my next one as my 5240i finally gave up it's ghost.

  • I own this phone, when it got worn, I took an airplane to Ukraine where they were still on sale ! It is the best phone in the world. When is nokia going to come out with a follow up of 5140i please please please

  • I own this one and no phone I say NO Phone in the same price range beats it. It has everything i wanted from a phone. It is durable and has not shown any signs of ageing since last three years. The camera is quite good but the pics taken do not display correctly enough on this phone, but once you transfer them to a pc, the are descent enough to be mailed to friends.

  • I bought it at spain airport abt one year back. Now the keypad is cracked, Plastic backing behing keypad broken, Pressure points on both sides (to open body of phone)has gaping holes. Rubber/Plastic is of evry inferior quality. Other amiss is Bluetooth. I use it ONLy for its digital compass which surprisisngly is quite accurate. Where can I find new body/keypad for this phone. These days I'm stationed in Mumbai-India.

  • I've had this phone for years and nothing kills it! As a tradie, theres no way I'll get another phone until this one dies, or they come out with one just as good or better.

  • Have had it for four years and working very very good, make me fully satisfied

  • can i upgrade my c.p.?

  • my phone is given me problem when i try to connect it with laptop by using USB

  • i had this phone a couple of months ago and it was my favortie phone i have had but i lost it and i have been looking to buy it again but do you think i could find someone that sells it .. they need to bring it back out.. top phone!

  • I've had this phone for 3mnths now and I rily enjoy using it!!!! if only it had bluetooth;)

  • Can i upgrade my 5140i memory to 512mb pl i need it i love the phone

  • Can i upgrade my 5140i memory to 512mb pl i need it i love the phone

  • Can i upgrade my 5140i memory to 512mb pl i need it i love the phone

  • great phone and really strong the only problem is the keypad

  • brian ive read that youre frustrated with your 5140i phone,, so do you sell it?

  • In terms of upgrade from previous models re: robust drop proof water resistant type phone.. you wasted your money just upgrading the technical specs... the phone is long overdue for an appearance makeover... I am in the navy and have a pool of twenty of these phones... so they are put through their paces... the front cover cracked at top where soft pad is inserted... the softpad wears through showing backlighting in worn places around the keypad... the internal white plastic grid supporting the keypad breaks and is a pain to relocate. The on off button is too small and so are the keys. These phones are used by sporty type people who brave the elements... Mountain hikers and bikers... sailors... etc. I need to upgrade my 20 phones... but have been unable to for five years now... because YOU NOKIA have not produced an upgrade that looks any different... the so called upgrade to the 5140i shown to me at a Nokia outlet is a joke... no rubber in the right places ... it vibrates off the table... the previous 5140 vibrated itself to death and would not switch on again... when used as a daily alarm clock... You guys have some work to do now get cracking

  • what charger does this take 3.5 or 2.0 mm please get bak 2 me(now watch me YOUUUUU)

  • I bought my Nokia 5140i over in Australia and I just moved back to the states. Is if easy to switch it over to make calls in America? Can I just buy a sim card and go to one the pay as you go plans or do I need to go through the whole process of buying a new phone and plan? I've come to appreciate the pay as you go style they have in Australia and I would love to keep going with that? Anyone have any suggestions?

  • when i got d phone i only got 1 game,why?

  • when i browse to internet my nokia 5140i tells me un able to switch on ptt but when i switch it it says check connection settings i dnt knw where to check please help

  • great phone perhaps the greatist phone but when are they gona relase a newer version with all the trimmings suck as card slot real tones and a camera that provides some level of detail

  • I only wish it wouldn't produce cancer. I mean for all these mobile phones...

  • This phone is robust, easy menu selection, lasting batteries and normal buttons for people with strong hands. All in all I think it's a great successor of some previous phones I had from Nokia. And most of all it wasn't very expensive. I only wish it would have teleportation device so I could go to Bahamas.

  • what do you do when you want to run an aplication and it says application error?

  • Awesome phone. I liked it and am using it for an year... looks are good and its really sturdy !! Thanks Nokia for this phone...

  • Can someone please help? I'm looking for a 3G phone similar to 5140 - with flashlight & all other extras & also the "heavy duty" cover.

  • Good phone. My phone always keeps searching for operator if set in Automatic and if Fixed in Manual then loses the operator and waiths until you reset. Help..

  • Great phone, rugged and doesnt breakk when u drop it. Only problem is its NOT waterproof as some peopl say, i spalshed a small amount of salt water onm m,ine today, and it has now dies, apart from that a great phone

  • This phone is packed with unusual features. How many others offer a decibel meter, thermometer, torch, compass, stopwatch, voice recorder etc? I had mine for over two years and it performed faultlessly. I have only replaced it because it did not have bluetooth. I agree the screen could be bigger and the camera higher resolution, but for a freebie supplied by my service provider, it was hard to beat!

  • the Nokia 5140 is a real longlasting phone for ppl who works at construction site it has everything for work purposes radio, flashlight an even a compass real cool

  • I bought this about $135 & its fair price. phone is sporty but the memory and Screen quality is not enough. some one says this one is water resist but don't think so. suitable for hard use. overall is fairly GOOD.

  • how do you open it? :P got mine whitout a manual

  • i bought it on ebay. 50 bucks. fair price. phone is neat. temperature doesnt really work (its 120 in my room lol) its just for playing around. compass well... its OK... +/- 20... at least you know that N is not S ;) price is OK!!!

  • I just ordered my phone on ebay. Had to order out of the state b/c they don't sell this phone here. I can't wait. This phone reminds me of the Panasonic Duramax. I have a Nokisa 6010. Durable phone. Nokia knows what they are doing. Ill let you all know how I I like it.

  • brilliant phone .no others come near especially when you do contracting work.why dont they make a modern one with a bigger screen !

  • Best. Damn. Phone. Ever. Period. I've had my first gen 5140i since they first came out. 2 batteries, 5 cases & 10(!) keypads later, the only faults I can find are the camera Quality & the memory size, everything else is awesome.

  • This phone is definitley the most rugged of what is available yet could be much better. I am an earthmoving contractor and ususlly destroy a phone within 3months. In two years this one has been left in rain, had mud smeared through it and been dropped numerously without ill affect. Battery life is good but memory frustratingly small. The rubber key pad goes soft and falls out within 6 months and its a bit slow for texting accurately. I am now on my third key pad and take care to keep the sun off the keypad as I suspect the UV attacks it. I have also needed 2 new cases (at $100 each including rubber keypad!!!)as the screen cover eventually scratches or gets white bleamishes where dented. Even so its the toughest case I have experienced. Overall the font sizes are too small, especially the time display. I shouldnt have to put glasses on every time I want to use the phone! When you key in a phone number the numerals are enormous (wonderful for older eyes) but when you callup a number from the address book it is in small font and difficult to see (I have already set the phone on the largest font size). The camera is disappointing as most images are too blury for printing even at postcard size. When I bought the phone the sales rep said it had blue tooth but alas he was wrong so using the phone hands free in the truck without a tangle of cords is an unnecessary issue for me. Overall a good phone that could be much better. I would buy another one today but only because something better is not yet available or the model has not been upgraded.

  • The "ruggedized" nokias are fabulous. Unfortunately like most "good" mobiles they are hard to find in the US and only sport one of the GSM frequencies used here which makes them less useful in non-urban (e.g. older towers) areas - precisely where you'd really benefit from such a phone. How about a quad band? Note to nokia - your only competitor in the States for ruggedized handsets is Motorola - they have Mil Spec ruggedized phones - but they only work on IDEN/TDMA/Nextel and who wants to go there... I would switch to any US carrier who carried these. In general why don't more cellphones have flashlights?!? I have an ancient 5100 and I must use the flashlight at least twice every day. I can't recommend these models enough.

  • its a bloody excellent phone, rugged, water proof, got a torch, and everything else..an outdoors type of person would need. I mean what else are you really going to use your phone for??? Its cheap, reliable and i would always buy one...except i get them for free...anyway, this would be my choice for top phone of the year.

  • this phone is greate and stylish, i really enjoy it, my problem is the memory is too little, 3.5 m is nothing, is there any way i can extend my memory?

  • To honey who posted a puerely opinionative comment about nokias decreasing shares due to models like the 5140i. i have worked in a mobile phone retailer for the last three months.and not a week goes by without somebody asking me to order them a 5140i. sure its military esq looks and its now outdated vga camera may not suit everyone. but with its sheer durability and bullet proof reliability. continue to make nokia a market leader catering for many who rely on such a sturdy phone.

  • i used 2 have a 6101 and im surprised that this 1 is better. very pleased!

  • i dont think anyone would agree with me but this phone has got style. it is rugged and tough and its also got style! and its got all the features u would need. i bought mine for $139. its great!

  • fantastic phone, had it for about 2yrs now, have not gotten any problems with it, the camare could be better though, but overall it;s a great phone!

  • I've had mine for long. Fantastic, I love and use all the functions. The screen display is not the best around, but for me its ruggedness and features more than make up for it

  • I have one.Ii's a perfect phone.I like it verry much!

  • does anybody know how to install the mms seetings in this phone i cannot get it sms'ed from my service provider as they do not sell this phone in canada.but they gave me the setting details (apn:. username.password .ipaddress etc). i cant seem to be able to load these settings so please khelp somebody as nokia support sucks and cant help

  • Great phone Awful keypad. The rubber is floppy, and after 1 year typing is becoming really hard. Maybe Nokia accounted for this as this phone has a replaceable key pad. Only it is not clear, whare to get a new one...

  • Great phone, perfect for any trades-men ie electricians, plumbers, joiners etc. This phone can handle the durability required and last lots longer than any other.

  • One year ago my wife put this phone through the entire wash cycle on our washing machine. over 1 hour in water. Guess what... it is still working. There may be many better phones out there, but none as clean!

  • for how long can this phone last, and how can lay my hand one of this

  • How to set Time/Date showing in bigger font?

  • it is a cool phone

  • this handset is very good previouly i was using a d900 and this handset is so much easier to use and more pleasing to the eye and of cousre i can throw it around

  • Nokia 5410i,good sturdy looks. Poor camera Feature. It also scores low with its talk time.

  • I got Nokia 5140i and its too good man...i love all its features. It looks sturdy and it very easy to navigate. Previously I was using Samsung X100...it sucked! Nokia 5140i satifies all the basic needs a mobile user needs..Must buy in medium end series of mobile.

  • Had this phone for about 3 months and was very disappointed with it. Prior to this I had the 5100 which was excellent, but this doesn't meet the high standards set by that model. The build quality is terrible. The two halves of the shell don't even fit properly, and the bottom half wobbles loosely when using the keypad. Perhaps my shell was poorly made, and an exception - I certainly hope so. The camera, while obviously not a main feature of this phone, is such bad quality it wasn't even worth adding as a feature. Also, the screen is difficult to read outdoors. This is a problem with many phones but seems worse in the 5140i. On the other hand, the standby display (clock, icons) is near-impossible to read in any lighting conditions - you can't just glance to see if you have a message or missed call, but rather will have to press keys and deactivate the standby. Other things to note: - The included themes and colour schemes are badly designed, in that many clash with the menu fonts and make them difficult to read. - There seems to be no option to turn off the sounds in the games, or even reduce the volume. Even on Silent mode the games will still make VERY loud irritating beeps. This post may seem entirely negative, but the phone is not without good points. Indeed, it uses the familiar Nokia software that is, on the whole, rather excellent. It shares many other good points with many other Nokia phones. It's just a shame that it adds absolutely nothing of it's own, apart from an inferior build-quality.

  • gys let me know about push to talk

  • very good phone recently launched by nokia in india a few things are missing taking into consideration of presesent trends of india 1 bluetooth 2 only 3.5 mb i think this set would not give much sales to nokia as motorola recently launched l6i on comparison with 5410i its having 10 mb memory, very good speaker, looks goog, bluetooth and stereo fm.... i only want to suggest nokia echelons that indian consumers wants bluetooth, good memory atleast 50 mb if not extendable inbuild and very good speaker ie supports mp3 files please good sake donot put futile features thermometers ,compass etc its better giving right type of features ours objective is not about launching n numbers of products but launching products which the consumers of that country wants in this way we can save lot of money etc

  • This the phone model or what and why and for what purpose nokia has launched this handset. By launching these kind of models nokia is deceasing his shares day by day.

  • very much surprised by this phone as this is not at all a good phone. repetition of n5100 looks but no additional good features. Memory is very low.

  • easy to use, good looking

  • This looks like YUCK! What is Nokia doing, i think they need to take some ideas frm products like Ultra and Krazar

  • The Nokia 5140i supports Push-to-talk (PTT), a technology that allows you to instantly talk to other people owning a PTT phone on the same network, just by the push of a button, as with a walkie-talkie. Check out

  • Easy to use, accepts wet and rough usage,FIRST CLASS PHONE.

  • This phone was going great for me.. then one day I dropped it accidently and the screen never worked again. It was justoutof its one year warranty so I hadto pay $35 for Nokia to look at it, only to tell me that it could not be repaired and it was useless.

  • mine got flushed down the toilet, and it still works!!!

  • Good phone for because is nokia , ugly, but the batery , memory , case , not very good

  • This phone seems to have nice features.. vga camera, usb connection, fm radio etc. But damn it looks poor to me! I don't like the looks this mobile at all. Maybe 'cause I'am a woman.. So I think this was designed for men only who sees all the other stuff except the appearance.. :) I'm not saying this is ugly, it's just too rough to me. :D

  • it very simple to turn the flash on.just unlock tha phone by pressing MENU &*(you know that).press and hold # button till the light is on.to turn the flash off press and hold it again(#)you can put it off even phone is locked

  • i have this phone 2, and im happy with it, i just wonder how the flashlight can be turned on?? thanks

  • I totally agree with you steve, this phone is like a mobile god.

  • Don't understand what you people grumble about, I bought my 5140i for the simple reason that it's a hell of a lot more resistant to knocks and scrapes than your average mobile. No it isn't bullet proof or waterproof and it probably won't stand being dropped from a great height, but it's still tougher than 99% of normal phones. Which is exactly why you should buy it. The camera is crap, but hey, you know what i did? I went and bought a Canon Ixus digital camera. Remember cameras? they take pictures. Good ones. And as for music, I've got a stereo that does that. So that leaves making calls and sending texts, both of which the 5140i does pretty well. It also does it reliably come rain or shine. It's proved resistant to mud, falling off my mountain bike once or twice (and if I ever break my leg in the middle of nowhere, at least the battery will be full and it'll have a strong signal, so who cares if the photos of the air ambulance won't be brilliant) and the attentions of a two year old child. My last Nokia, a 6600 cracked in two when i dropped it on my wooden floor. So if you spend time doing sports, or maybe working outside, go and buy one, it'll do you proud. It'll happily survive knocks, splashes and falls, just don't make the mistake of thinking it'll take deliberate or constant abuse. Because it won't.

  • Live long and rubbery!

  • I do not beleive mine eyes! Qutoe:Do not drop this phone on its back!!! I think you dropped it on it's back on purpose to try and claim on warranty yes! Quote:I broke my screen this way, and another 5140i owner told me he similarly broke his speakerphone. More evidence! You and your friend were in league with each other! Quote:It is not as durable as you might expect. It also has very poor warranty support by Nokia. Oh yes! Nokia have more IQ that you, they saw through your feindish plan to scam them via warranty and send you packing! Quote:The screen is too dark to read when it is not backlit. You need yours eyes testing! Quote:The operating system is horrible to use. You need to take a computer course! Quote:The thermometer is so slow to react, it will measure the temperature in you pocket for 15 minutes after you take it out. It has a thermometer??? OMG! This phone rocks my world!! Quote:The earpieces aren't well designed to fit human ears. Your ears must be oddly shaped!! Quote:Do NOT buy this phone. It blows. You blow!!

  • Do not drop this phone on its back!!! It will likely break when dropped from modest heights (1-2ft). It has no rubberised protection on its back. I broke my screen this way, and another 5140i owner told me he similarly broke his speakerphone. It is not as durable as you might expect. It also has very poor warranty support by Nokia. The buttons are fiddly and small, particularly the on/off button. The screen is too dark to read when it is not backlit. The operating system is horrible to use. The thermometer is so slow to react, it will measure the temperature in you pocket for 15 minutes after you take it out. The earpieces aren't well designed to fit human ears. Do NOT buy this phone. It blows.

  • nnnooo how dare nokia withdraw this i cant live with out it got no reason to go on going to end it now

  • If you check Nokia 5140 on most e-bay sites you will find dozens of new unlocked ones at reasonable prices being offered by Hong Kong vendors who will ship it to you

  • just ordered this phone today to upgrade to,never had a play with it, but o2 assured me its the best nokia on the market at the moment and that because i was a high spending i could have it for free. i think o2 r great for that cant wait to get to grips with the 3 megapixel camera on it.

  • Does anyone know how to change the main menu display on a 5140? I just picked up a used one on e-bay as I liked the features and hated my new Motorola with passion, but I don't like the icons display when you push menu button, want to change to plain text as I do know how to read! Can't seem to find anything in the instruction book on this. Also funnily it doesn't seem to want to read my address data stored on Sim card, I hate the idea that I am going to have to stick the sim into the motorola and write all the numbers out. Any ideas?

  • excellent phone worked well for me last nite when i was at my regular dogging spot xx

  • what a cracking little handst it takes excellent pics of my new bottle green saxo xx

  • Mp3 ringtones and massive 3.5mb storage. Laughable.

  • this phone is so amazing with the vibrating feature and the rubber case , god i love this phone and want to marry it

  • what a cool phone, especially if you are into extreme sports like mountain biking, just chuck it in your pocket and yer don't have to worry about it, very very loud ring tone.

  • I have owned a 5140 for 2 years and only had to replace the display twice. My fault on both occassions. Good phone if you only want a practical phone. Now looking at the 5140i as a replacement. Reason for replacing the phone, the keypad is wearing out, (touchy buttons) and battery is not holding a charge long enough.

  • can any one plz tell me if u can upgrade the memory one this phone plz wb

  • what the f...k are you arguing about? That its camera is not good enough or its memory is not big enough? this phone was not made for makeing photos, or listening to music. if you want to make good photos, get a camera and if you want to listen to music, get an mp3 player. this phone has long battery life, its signal is very good and its extremely resistant to shock. it has a thermometer, flashlight, compas, etc. what else do you need? if you want to have fun, buy a sony ericsson, its cheaper, maybe better looking, but you drop it once and its f...ked and you will have to recharge it every 2nd day. so don't talk that much, see the facts.

  • The 5140 is the best phone ever, you can do anything to it ,like the perfect man and it still works!! i love it!!!

  • I've had this phone for a year and it's survived and thrived.(where others have not) I work as a landscaper and a bit of water is unavoidable. It's never been a problem with this phone. It's also been dropped many times and once again, not a problem. I like the flashlight feature as well and it's helped me out on more than one occasion. Mine also has the soundmeter, which sounds funny, but it's great if your having a party and the neighbors complain about the levels. A good way to get your guest to be quieter too.(lol)

  • Hey crazy forum dudes!! Is this phone suitable for diving,or snorkelling?

  • This thing is not waterproof at all! Mine did not even survive 3 min. in the washing machine. (the time it took me to hear the rattling) This phone is still OK, besides the bad camera, terrable compass and stupid training programs. But it has very good battery life (if you don't use the LED light at all)

  • Well its not waterproof its splash proof,i splash around in the bath with mine all the time and its fine,I have also got several other liquids on it and it still works!

  • when I bought this phone I was told it was water proof, I went diving with friends and when I took it out of my diving suit and tried to make a call my wife couldnt understand a word I was saying, is there something wrong with my phone or is there a whole new underwater language we need to learn?

  • Well - after a month of use I want to change it ... The antenna isn't great, dialog partners complain about he quality of sound. The display is difficultly visible in bright enrironment (sunlight). The keypad isn't comfy - one needs to push hard. The gadgets (compass, thermometre) etc and the rubber case are cool anyway. I stick to Nokia but this model is not for me.

  • The rubber cover started to wear/tear after 3 months average town use and the warranty does not cover the outside part of the phone -huh Keyboard to small but they have given you spirit level incase you need to hang a bookshelf during sports activities or driving etc. Battery life not to good either. PASS you should.

  • Promises much delivers some all in squishy and disappointing fashion. Clever gadgets give way to cumbersome toys and the GPS mapping is very poor. Two months and replaced. Think again and buy elsewhere!

  • gigjas: The radio antenna is in the headset,I think, hence it needs to be plugged in to work. As to the radio as an alarm clock, you need an external speaker, eg. the Nokia MD1 music stand, see

  • I love my newly bought 5140i BUT two things bother me. I can only send one picture attached to each email. Is this fixable? If not it is expensive for me to transfer pictures to my IBook one at a time....TECHNOHELP PLEASE..... I also dont understand why the headset must be plugged in for the radio to work. I never use the friggin headset, the loudspeaker was one of the reasons I bought this phone. The alarm clock can be set to radio and it is possible to set it to loudspeaker, but if the phone is not connected to the headset it rings the standard alarm!!

  • Help me good ppl! I'm using Siemens ME45 from 4 years and it is time to change it. The side buttons (2,4,7,3, 6,9,*,#) got a little frayed and it does not look good. I am thinking about 5140i.. and i want to ask the owners - does this phone looks like it will work for about more 3 years, at least? I am sentimental and I heat to change my personal surrounding too often.

  • I used to have a Siemens ME45 and then switched to this one...very bad decision. For durability, splashproofness, dustproofness etc. the ME45 beats this one by miles. The 5140i looks sturdy but it's not, so I'm considering switching back to Siemens, this time to the ME75, a far better choice if you want a phone that can take a hit and still work...

  • I had the 5140 for about 18months. It worked well, took a bit of a beating etc. The only problem is that the rubber flap at it's base pushes on the charger and slowly wrecks the pop port. As it is an all in one (for dust proofing) you can't fix it. NOT HAPPY. I'd suggest ripping that rubber base flap off on day one and enjoy the use of an otherwise decent phone.

  • I am also about to buy an 5140i. I searched for it at californiacomputer and found out a price of 150$. But they are selling 5140 for 175$. Its kinda wierd. But I guess 150$ is a good price for such a good phone. I guess it will get cheaper buy release of 5500..

  • We are about to buy 6 Nokia 5140i phones are we doing the right thing serious answers please

  • This is the shock proof phone....right.....is it water resistant? Can Someone tell me more about this phone and how it performs...Thanks guys......

  • this phone isn't water proof. Its water, dust and shock resistant. Although a lot of time it can get pretty wet it can be damaged by water and not work

  • The Nokia 5140i is indeed a top phone. It's not a flashy handset but then again it doesn't need to be because of who its aimed at. The basic functions are typically 'Nokia' i.e. relatively straight forward and easy to use, although as can be expected the camera and screen res are a little rubbish. I had this phone for 2 years before it finally packed up and in that time it took a serious beating through various bashes and drops. The various 'special' features of this phone are interesting if a little useless (the compass tends to be dicey and the torch is dim when compared with the latest SonyEriks), but that aside its great. 5140 does what it says on the tin, its tough and will still call out after you 'accidentally' lob it off the wall after a phone call to the missus.

  • Top phone, have had this phone for the passed two years and love it, just ugraded to the n70. mistake.the 5140i is such a tough phone dropped it been in the dog water bowl thanks to my 3 year old

  • To those that wanted to know the difference, 5140= 850mhz(USA), 1800mhz, 1900mhz(North America) 5140i= 900mhz, 1800mhz, 1900mhz(North America)

  • you can throw it , you can carve it , you can stomp on it , you can drive over it , you can drop forty storey building and it still works. I love this phone im a builder from the west and im impressed. I also love the 3mp camera and the bluetooth. SWEET GOODNESS

  • Make this Bluetooth!!!!!

  • I use this fone for work and it really gets hammered and so far it hasn't broken. It even stands up to the test of my temper and has survived several hard impacts when I have thrown it against walls. All in all a great work phone and nothing else.

  • this is a good mobile phone....i swear...i bought it from hongkong...they upgrade the software so it can write chinese characters....cool although it cost me 100 HKD...so i buy for 1150 HKD...very cheap isn't?wakakaka!

  • i was wanting to know from anybody if the 5140i plays mp3's? can i send mp3s from my pc to the phone and will they play? need an answer urgently. Thank you

  • Are you guyz SURE that the specifications are correct for this phone on this page? I compared it with the 5140 and it seemed that this phone is LESS sophisticated than its predecessor? I guess someone made a mistake. Wonder what the differences are between the 5140 and the 5140i...

  • did next one will be 3G in big screen like N70 with both bluetooth infrared with card slot ????? Am waiting for it ....

  • really good phone! i love it!

  • Hi Guys & Gals This Mobile is difinatly a Gi mobile the way it is built its really indistructible it is a sexy piece i would give anything to have it

  • Things I love: The look and feel, the buttons (including navigation key) , the indicator light (wish it was a different color and flashed more frequently though) and the menu. Things I hate (or wish they would improve): Screen Resoloution (CSTN????), include bluetooth and increase memory. I really would be willing to pay more for the added features...I work in a corporate environment and get complemented on this phone all the time (eventhough most of my colleagues sport nokia 8800's, 9300/9500's and the new N's). I think there is a strong market for a durable yet high tech phone if Nokia is up for the challenge. Overall I do love this phone, and I hope next time around nokia will leave the exterior intact and work on improving the backbone.

  • this phon is great having many good feachring but having many advantages it has also a low space for collecting data.so request is plz increase the memory. Also plz tell me that how the mp3 ringtones can get.how? tell me on my address [email protected] any body knows about it so plz tell me,,

  • What i mean whit the last question is, can u add words to the library?

  • Does this phone has the T9 sms function, can't find anything about it..

  • this phone is indestructable!!

  • Hi, I have a problem with my Nokia 5140i. When i choose "Manual" in "Operator selection" the phone blockaded. I cant choose different network so I am not able to use this phone abroad - no roaming. What is the problem?

  • Hi Joe! You can read the online manual at the nokia website. www.nokia.com , choose your mobile and check out all the info at the left hand side of the web page. Best of luck!

  • hello out there,i just got my Nokia 5140i but the manual is in dutch while i dont understand.can someone help me with it.i want a friend to help me out with some issues.see you.but what can i say apart from that the phone is more than the world excellent.

  • nokia u just make a second sport model this one i have but u still make the sports series cheers

  • I use the e-mail client on this phone. Today I try to retrieve mail and the client tells me that the memory is full. I deleted all the messages in all the folder, but the memory status still says: Mumber of messages : 0, Memory used : 100%????!!!!! I restarted the phone and even set back the factory setting but the e-mail client still won't work. There is nothing in the user manual that covers this error either. Any help would be appreciated.

  • Hello guys! I'm quiet interested in this phone and I have a question: is it loud enough when it's set on maximum? Thanks v much.

  • what distance can this phone really fall from and is the camera quality good

  • NOKIA - WHAT HAPPENS TO YOUR GOOD NAME?? I have the same problem as MICK posted on 2005-12-28 00:09. I have my NOKIA 5140i for 3 months now and, like most, it works well as a phone. I just bought a brand new 5140i GPS Xpress-on Shell which is really worse than useless, no word for it. It comes with GPS software which is slow to work because the receiver seems very weak. The Map travel guide software is the final insult to injury and human intelligence. ie it doesnt work. Period!! If nokia can ship something like this, then it marks the beginning of their downhill slope.. Com'n Nokia, save yourself,... how about getting an updated version of Travel Map, so all your costly GPS shell buyers will get what they paid for. Also if it works on GSM, it needs to be online, and hence costly to run and it sucks. If no one in Nokia can help, having used nokia for 15yrs think its about time I look to the competition.!!

  • Ive waited almost a year and half to see if any enhancements are being developed on 5140 initial release, and here we go with better graphics and other minor enhancements on this cute 5140i, with much cheaper price, it is about $190 where I live in Estonia. What do I need other than this 5140i can provide nowadays as mobile phone? I can log in to all my web mails such as hotmail, yahoo mail, G mail or whatever as well as pay my bills by this phone using WAP/GPRS without any glitch in any location support this function paying by no EXTRA CHARGE to the current carrier EMT in Estonia, if youre not, simply youre living somewhere behind the current technology can possibly offer in your life. Just log on to , or in some cases it could be using 5140i and thats all you need to do, and see what happens. It has very useful Flashlight, Compass, Thermometer, Calendar, FM radios to make sure that youd be never put in situation to the total blackness, 5140i can at least be able to orient you no matter where youre or ended up with on this planet, so Id recommend it to you at least to check it out and feel it out. Oh, Ive forgotten to mention its capability to deliver photo or Video clips (up to 15 sec or so) via mms to any email addresses without using PC on the spot using mms. It is nothing spectacular about it if you already have high quality Digital Camera or Video recorder to deliver the same without using PC. Nevertheless, I found it as quite handy feature that I can deliver such captures to any email address as I feel like it without transferring such images or clip to PC, and you also can use literally any midi or mp3 files as for your ring tone or alerts for receiving any messages. Remember that Bluetooth is not supported, but so what? I can easily transfer any files in between PC and 5140i using basic USB port, or IR on PC using simple cable cost about 5 bucks or nothing for IR :)

  • I purchased this phone just before Xmas. As a phone I have no complain. Keypad is a OK, cant complain these days, if we want things compact as well. Very stylish. Nice and loud loud speaks, and its feature packed. even sound meter and thermometer. Could even be better if it has a barometer also to . No bluetooth, but it has the GPS shell enhancement which I purhcased for GPS and Satellite Navigation which is automatically downloaded on installation. The GPS works well, but the signal is slow to pickup. To me the Travel Guide ( map navigation) is worse than useless so far. I have spent 2 weeks contacting all Nokia websites, telmap ( its software people), and O2 UK,, done and repeated all the settings 100 times, and the Travel Guide ( nav map system ) cant connect, with " Error cannot synchronise with remote server ". Shame all these people tend to know very little and kept passing the buck..It would be nice to hear from anyone who has managed to get the Travel Guide working.. Something like this should be made quite simple to setup without going into complex settings. Not everyone likes to spend a lot of time doing trial and error if a product is good...

  • I've currently got the 5140 and about to upgrade. The logical choice is the 5140i but I am reluctant to do this as the only difference I can see is more colours on the screen? Does anyone have any other suggestions for a water and knock resitant mobile phone?? Thanks

  • well i have sat and read all the comments on here with a bemused expression. I hope to provide a usefull insight into the merits of the phone. First if all, i am neither a builder not a outdoor sports fanatic. i just wanted a phone that was well built and i like the feel of the rubber, simple as that! The screen is not as good as a 6230i. but it has its own charm and with the orange menu background looks really nice. To aid visibility i dont have a wallpaper, just white back ground with orange signal and battery indicators. Simple and cool. Okay plus features - the blinking light is usefull not just for locating your phone in the dark, but also it flashes a different pattern if you have missed a call or have a new message, which is handy if you want to glance over to your phone without having to get up and press a key to activate the backlight. And of course its handy to have the flashlight light to, another small feature i found very very handy is the fact that when you write a text message, email, sms, etc and select the send button, instead of having to go through your whole address book you can choose "recently used" which displays your last 10 or so message recipents, which is a lot quicker...and was a feature i missed while i had a 6230i for a while. I also like the sound quality that the rubber case seems to have on the acoustics of the ring tones and loudspeaker function, i found the 6021 and 6230i a bit tinny compared to the 5140i. The radio is also very good. I had a choice to make between this and the 6230i having bought both phones at the same time. yes the 6230i has more functions, but the charm of the 5140i won it over for me. And lets be honest once we have played with all the toys. most of use just want a small light weight phone that is easy to use and navigate and easy to text with, and i would guess that 98% of people mainly use phones for this purpose.

  • hey i just bought the nokia 5140i and i cant work out how to set up gprs and mms!! Ive rang customer service like i did with my old phone to get it to work but it still wont connect to the internet or send/recieve mms. can anyone pls let me know if they have managed to get their mms and gprs working on their nokia 5140i. plz anyone

  • very good phone for the building trade

  • hi guys does any1 no if this phone has bluetooth?thanks!

  • good

  • Better buttons and display on the next phone please Nokia!

  • The 5140i still has the sound meter on. I have this h/set not that impressed as keypad difficult to use and the quality of the display is poor.

  • They took the sound meter off the new model. Does anyone know why??

  • Ive had the 3200 for almost 12 months and it has started playing up on me so i decided to buy a new phone. i was looking around for 6020 but couldnt find it and then i bought this phone...Best descicion i made. Was gonna buy SE W800i but that can wait till nxt yr..gr8 phone for anyone (im 15) and i recommend this phone...battery life sux but thats ok

  • I like Nokia I utterly dislike this phone You cannot see the screen 60% of the time... terrible. The buttons are really hard to press (always press the one next to it) Why bother with the camera... it is very poor the sound quality on my handset is very poor. The handsfree earphones are very uncompfy on my ears. The battery life is average. The phone is durable.... but way too expensive... I would have been much happier with any other phone... and I have had plenty of Nokia's this one SUCK big time. The guys that really like this phone, you can get it off me for 30% of the price - come on put your money where your mouth is... ;)

  • Do any networks actually support the push to talk feature? Does it actually work?

  • If u want better shock, water and dust resistant I suggest Go for the Siemens M75 It outclasses the 5140i more than a mile

  • aye peoples!!! this phone is a gooooooooood phone, especially if you're clumpsey...haha shock and water resistant..

  • I have this phone for over 10 months...and never dissapointed me...It happen many times to lose the phone on the floor...no problem, it`s robust, precise, and it's features are more than enough. Is a reliable phone..and I will change it only with an improved model of 51**. Thx.NOKIA

  • I bought this phone and at first I was quite dissapointed. I mena the camera wasn't that good...but then I stopped and used my brain like most of you should do. Why do I need a camera? To take pictures of a car? Well there's this thing called Internet...you should have heard of it to be reading this post. Well I'm sure I could find any picture with better quality on the Internet. Ok imo they should have added bluetooth, but at least there's infrared. The compass is really cool..but well in my hands quite useless lol. The flashlight helps me a lot...and being a durable phone it's very good in my clumsy hands. The lower buttons are a bit too hard...but thank god soemone made a phone with decent buttons...not some small ones. And what's with the screen?? Do you need a high resolution to read numbers or names or sms/mms? The battery is quite good, not to the SE standard(God they're sooo good) but it's the second best imo. I wanted to ask if anyone who downloaded or transfered midi phones from pc/wap if they have worked for him...I think they should...cause I downloaded and transferred midi file, and the phone recognizes them as midis and their length...but when I try to play them they don't work...it says 'File corrupted'. I sent them via infrared to my mate and they worked fine for him...but when he transfered them back same problem...So is this normal? And if someone can tell me what I can do to solve this problem I would greatly appreciate it. Anyways this is a very good phone overall. I would have liked a bit more memory, but it's still very good.

  • To Gabarq: the infrared works perfectly on this phone. Just like all other nokia phones. I've justed several times to transfer fotos, videos and ringtones from my laptop to the phone and vica versa. Greatings

  • Sorry for nokia brand!! very low features.low resolution,no bluetooth low memory,no card slot... if it has same features with 6230i ;ican think about buy 5140i !!!!

  • HI everyone.I have a question about this pone.May someone tell me how does the Infrared Port work in this phone? Is it comparable with other NOKIA phones? Can I transfer (send & receive) files like pictures and melodies? And one more question. Does smoeone know anything about this NOKIA 5145 ? Thank You in advance.

  • to cooper, m8 this phone can only do about15 sec. worth of video. there might be a way you can extend it but with it's limited memory 15 sec. would be all i'd like to take for videos anyway. if you want something that can take long videos than try the 6630 or 6230i (although i'm not sure if the 6230i can take a long video like the 6630). hope this helps. :)

  • I'M Cooper from Nigeria. Please may I know how many minutes the Nokia 5140i records using the video feature.

  • I will say for now, that Nokia 5140i is the Phone I like best.It is too snazy. And full of features.

  • The software of this phone sucks! I contacted Nokia and they don't want to fix my problem!

  • i have this as a works mobile and iam an engineer and i think it serves the purpose very well the only faults with it are that it does not have bluetooth and the buttons are a bit fidjity other than that i think it is a good work phone

  • not a bad phone but they don't make a good tradesman phone anymore like the 6250 that could be drop from 10 metres. Its not compatable with 3g network and it should have bluetooth

  • Thanks Happyseller. I came accross ads in our local media where the 5140i was avertised as 3G... I`m still on my 5100 and looking desperately for a rugged 3G handset like a lot of you do I gather, that would be a real hit from Nokia, let`s hold thumbs..

  • Hi there! I'm George from Athens, Greece. I've had in the past Nokia 5100 and Siemens M65. Nokia had problems with the microphone; Siemens used to switch off by itself. I want to buy a new phone; I'm thinking Nokia 5140i and Siemens M75. What do you think?

  • to texusruan, sorry mate, this phone is not 3G compatable so you couldn't use it as a 3G modem. it is a tradesmans phone not a business phone so i'd give that bloke who sold it to you a bit of a earbashing as well bernd. if you wanted a "business" phone that you can receive e-mails on (if you need it for that sort of reason) i would have suggested a blackberry phone or something like that. anyway this is still a good phone:)

  • Can anyone tell me if the 5140i can handle video calls and be used as a 3G modem ? Thanks

  • This is the best phone ever!!!

  • The phone is very good and I don't know why are voting results so low. Price is not big, the cover are the best and you have anything what need. I bought this phone few days ago and I really like it. Buy this phone if you want something diffrent of usuall phone, don't forgot: this have anything what have todays phones! Lucky croatian

  • Btw, I forget to mention that really cool Nokai 5140i standby feature. The level meter is also an illuminated signal beacon, rather like a lighthouse. In the dark it looks great as it softly beacons on and off. Just one thing puzzles me, if anyone can help: How do I assign a custom message tone from the Message Tones Gallery? The Profiles menu seems to allow selection only from "types" of tones, from Standard, Special, etc. But I want to set an actual custom tone. Where in the phone menus can I do that, anyone know?

  • Nokia 5140i is Series 40 phone designed for outdoor activity. For that it has compass, thermometer, level meter and sports application. It is dust and splash resistance, not proof (there is a difference). For those who complain about lack of Bluetooth and memory for e.g. downloading games, the reality is there is simply no phone that has everything, there is no such Universal segment. You can of course be a Multiple Device Owner if you need to satisfy all your mobile demands. But for my needs, the Nokia 5140i has what I need, and I don't need everything.

  • I bought this phone in Papua New Guinea. It is really good. I like it very much. I use it for when i go to bush fires with fire brigade and it has never got burnt. it is good.

  • Does anyone noticed if the Automatic Volume adjustment works ? I turned auto volume on but it seems that it does not increase volume at a noisy environment. Should I setup something at the sound meter ?

  • Hideyyy Ho everybody!! I find that the in built compass is really a good feature on this phone, especially when im trying to find my way to bukkake/hanky parties like the one at 666 Hankydo Road Hankyville! HUZZAH!

  • I love putting it up my Hanky Hole and ringing it when its on vibrate MMMMMMM just thinking about it is making my hanky hole all moist! PS I also get Hanky Turtles

  • I also get hanky turtles and push to talk is rad too.

  • Hahaha! i cant believe you would take your phone underwater! yes, the phone is dust proof, shock proof, and water proof - to a certain extent. They are made for people who might accidentally drop their phone a fair bit, or work in an area where its dirty/dusty or where there might be a bit of water splashback (like a building site, etc). They are not made to be thrown at the ground, taken diving, buried, or put in a glass of beer (seriously). you wonder why your phone wont work? its called liquid damage. And you want it covered by warranty? Sorry, warranty is designed NOT to cover foolish things that fools do to their phones.

  • Just bought it, and it is everything it is meant to be plus a lot more. Will post again after I have owned it for a few months and give a genuine appraisal. Kryten

  • i just bought it in greece and i love this phone has everything for a busy person. especially for outdoors am very happy cause the release here is 18th of august.

  • Well we put them in our beers then ring them and watch the glass froth over... they apear to be very water proof. Unbelievable really

  • This phone is: Just a phone for outdoor people like hikers, mountain bikers and survivelers, I think people who work in the army would love this phone also because of its handy features! It is shockproof, dustproof and rainproof (NOT waterproof). It has a compas, a flashlite, a radio and you can upgrade it with a GPS module if you want. It also has some kind of walkietalkie feature. You can use the phone as a personal fitness trainer and share and compare your fitness results with your fitness buddy's (who also have the phone) This phone is not: A iPod, megapixel digital camera or a Sony PSP.

  • I think that this is generally a very good phone yet one major flaw for me is the fact that after you have taken the cover off 4 or 5 times it doesn't fit on as well and you need to get a replacement,it would also be better were it a little bit more scratch resistant and if the camera were a little better.

  • someone tell me am wrong,...but i think the 5140i is a great phone. It may noy be cutting edge design but just look at the features. so what if it doesnt have bluetooth...its a phone...u use it to call people!+ Its durable has all those neat features like the flashlight, camera both still & vid, compass, fm radio, the works !!! am seriously thinking bout buying one. someone tell me why i shouldnt?

  • what's with memory and bluetooth?good, but...not enough.

  • where is the bluetooth as an ex builder i had the one b4 it was fantastic but now adays tec has moved on and bluetooth would be suming with great selling point

  • Nokia Has just released a CDMA model of the nokia 5140i, it is called the nokia 5145 and is getting released in the Asia-Pacific Markets (Japan, China, New Zealand, Australia, Singapore)

  • be practical men, look for a phone that is durable and afordable and this phone serves for what you want at sports or at work with the dust, dirt and wet.

  • its great mobile but it can be petter if there is blutooth ,also the cam should be clear cause the people who use this mobile they can use it in the water and they get nice pictures .

  • I loved this phone, unfortunatly mine doesnt work anymore. I;m not sure why, its water proof, I took it diving so i could see the temperature when I was 40 mts underwater and now it wont work. I called Nokia and they just laughed at me. I asked them to replace it and they said no. I'm so disappointed. Doesn't warranty cover this?

  • your all rite in your own ways the 5140i should have been the 5140 the design is great and yes it can fight off all those ninjas but if would hav been good with bluetooth but remember it is just a basic phone.

  • Bluetoot?More memory?Wake up guys this is phone, made to sport use,and for this usage its phone nro:1 ;) If need moore memory, bluetooth and even w-lan go and byu a new communicator... Anyway i have been use this phone couple of weeks and its just what i need from phone, and well, best of it is gps option (i got gps cover on my own nokia)/elec.compas and mp3 ringtones.

  • I think this is a great phone. Once when I was ambushed by the ninjas, the phone flashlighted all the attackers, and then it somehow downloaded the most horrible piece of Chinese music, it was HORRIBLE, and started playing, and as you know, ninjas are all from japan, and mammals... they hate chinese music. This drove them away. BUT. What really did the thing was when the phone showed from the thermometer that it was freezing outside, and they believed it and went inside to change for warmer clothing. Meanwhile I could escape. And it has a 2 year guarantee!

  • why is there not a CDMA version of this phone? with bluetooth?

  • It would be great if Nokia would stop wasting customer's time by introducing so many phones that are pretty much the same thing! 7210, 7250, 6610, 6610i, 3200 are pretty much all the same except some have cameras pretty much...and 5140i is pretty much the same as these phones (along with 5140 and 5100) ...by bringing out so many phones it is confusing for customers! Why does this phone not have Bluetooth? It would be handy for tradesman to have a phone that can withstand a dusty environment that they can keep in their pocket, and when their hands are dirty they can just quickly answer off the bluetooth headset...plus you'd rather damage an $80 bluetooth headset rather than a $500-$600 phone...

  • Pacho, same situation here, just got a new cover for my N5100. I love it

  • abemimus, try siemens m75 outdoorphone with stereo mp3 sound quality, but pooring release date....

  • i like this phone but i'm interested on a phone with stronger resistance like this one to falling ,an outdoor phone with mp3 player, does anyobdy knows such a phone?

  • I've been i N5100 user for two years, saw the 5140, saw the 5140i and saw the M65.... i will still wait for a new 5140 with bluetooth. regards.

  • Basically nokia 5140i is what the 5140 should've been. Quite stupid from nokia. Not a real update, but well, if you didnt buy 5140, I guess you can buy this.

  • Come on Nokia! You can do better than this! What's the meaning of "i" behind 5140 if there is no improvement? No bluetooth, no megapixel camera, no memory card, standard display 128x128, no 40 or 64 polyphony, no mp3 player. No expectation at all! Also not sure whether the device will be sold in Indonesia or not. Better buy a smartphone.

  • Come on Hunter you know why Nokia has a better battery than Siemens we've been over this already before lets see if your precious Nokia can make a phone with a same specification like m75 and to make it work as fast as 5140, and check one more time size of the caller id picture on Nokia and on Siemens,SE even has an id when a SMS arrives dont you think that Nokia should make that option avaliable on their phones after all it is "nokia" just think about it. I wish you well HUNTER!

  • I think it is a great phone for people who need it just for every day use and for those who want a durable cell phone, but other than than really notihing extra about this one 3.5mb memory thats ridicilous!!!!!!!!

  • Hot phone i think one of the best designs ever matter of opinion)

  • What has happened to everyone. Curious by so many comments, I saw a M75 and it looks like a big box with peanuts on it. 5140i is a sturdy phone made for the ruff tuff and it is a complete phone for outings. If you wanna get stylish go for 6680 or 8800. 5140i is for men, just like blue jeans... Wear it to understand it.

  • this phone is not bad, nothing more than that, for me i will go for the m75 for sure.... i trust Siemens much more, and i believe that the m75 is more durable, for those who don't agree, perhaps they want to have a look on the colourful voting results of the Nokia 5140i and compare it to the Siemens m75 voting results... good luck

  • The Flashlight in the 5140i does a lot more than any display of any other phone. And where i live it is network on the top of the mountain. The price for the Nokia 5140i is about 200 euro,Siemens M75 is about 350 euro.I dont think that is better than 5140i.I have it and it`s a lot better than M75.I am tired to answer to all the people that is saying that 5140i is not a good phone and the M75 is better.Siemens is not a good phone company. My recomandation is the Nokia 5140i becouse it`s better in any way that M75 in outdoor lifestyle. You people that are wanting to buy the M75....just buy it....you`ll see after you buy it.

  • the nokia 5140i hasent been brourt out for all the technolagies and that crap? this phone is 4working men like builders who need a tough rugged phone if u want sumthing fancie get a 8800 or 6680 if u want a phone for the fetures?

  • is this another one of those 7250 or 7250i scams. All they do is introuduce differant covers.

  • I have a question....is the 5140i as portected as 5140 considering 5140i has more technologies..? Thank you.

  • sry to inform you that ur fone will be useless anyway because there is no network available on top of the mountain :-)

  • Some people say that are dissapointed about the Nokia 5140i because it hasn`t got bluetooth and large memory. BUT if you are on the top of the mountain you don't need large memory and bluetooth. Bluetooth for what ? To send data, of course. To who ???? U are on the top of the mountain !!!!!!!!!!!!! Some people say it doesn`t have a megapixel camera. Again, if u are on the top of a mountain u don`t need a megapixel camera.

  • Just look at the review from Mobile-review, you are buying an old tech.Nokia will not maximize its profit on my account.I am getting me Siemens M75, there is nothing 5140i flsh light can do that any mobile phone's screen light can't.

  • C65 it doesn`t have flashlight, thermometer, resistence to water, dust and shocks, this design and it`s not Nokia.I dont need an memory card in my phone...i need good functionability and good design...and baterry life which the c65 doesn`t have either.Get it???

  • Why the internal memory size's so little, 3,5MB will only holds less than 5 minutes video/mp3 files. If only it uses external memory slot, I'll regard it. Might be Nokia should look at Siemens, it's cheap C65 has 10 MB internal memory!

  • Nokia is the best.Siemens said that it will release the M75 in june and now it`s almoast Julie. They just keep lying to the people. This is why they will sell to BenQ.

  • outdoor???with display with passive matrix like 5140???whi not tft?try it for a great delusion.bye

  • With its stunning looks and good features all i have to say is that this Nokia 5140i looks like the bad boy of all phones. with its bold look and Jagged edges this phone is seriously gonna blow its predesessor away.

  • This phone is very good for me.Maybe those who like M75 can explain why Siemens Didn`t put in theyre M75 an Flashlight or thermometer,Fm Radio, compass and EDGE?What will i doo whit the bluetooth in wilderness or on the mountain,or whit the megapixel camera or memory card? The battery on M75 it`s bad.I say that Nokia does best outdoor phones.I made a test whit the Nokia 5140 and throw it to the wall as hard as i could....Surprise,it dindn`t had anything,it workt perfectly well and the shell didn`t break.I dont thik that if i do this test whit the M65 or M75 will last.Nokia is the best.

  • This phone isn't designed as an 'outdoor sports phone'. its designed people who work outdoors such as tradesmen. its stupid to criticise this phone for its lack of features as its target market do not care about such features. my shop sells heaps of 1st gen nok5140 because it really is shockprrof etc. its only targeted at extreme sports types to make it seem cool (a hard task).

  • Looking for the best outdoor phone? check out Casio GzOne Type-R, unfortunately.....only available in japan. :)

  • guyz in short this phone dooes not cope up tu the standards and interst of the ppl.it's no a business classes phone but outdoor teenager sort of phone.the main thing iz this lacks in functoins and memory.just think wat's 3.5 mb gona du.u can hardly do sumthing with that.and on the other hand and your outdoor and times when u get bored then u probebly want tu listen songs or stuff like that but infortunatly it not the complelte phone man.

  • I apologize if I made you think I was mad at you or anyone else,I just tried to make a point that Siemens phones are not so bad,I am aware of nokia's quality and world wide sales. You know I live in Serbia where you dont have any legal representatives of such names as Samsung, motorola,SE, we only have it for Siemens and you know that support means very much,I heard that SE made a presenation just before CeBit in Hanover, but other than that phones come from fishy channels, usually they are marked Vodafone,T-mobile etc. I wish you all the best :)

  • don`t be mad at me igor.Nokia didn`t do this phone for bussines(but you can look in the past,a few years ago this phone whit this features had been heaven to have.),they did it for outdoor life, where you don`t need MPixel camera and bluetooth. This phone doesn`t look good in a bussines man`s hand.If you want a full featured phone try and look to a Nokia 6230i or N6630 or another Nokia or SonyEricsson(Or siemens)phone.I`ve said this things about the 5140i becouse i know what Siemens can doo(and it looks much but just looks, becouse when you really have a Siemens you realise that it`s not that much like you thought).I had the Siemens S65 which left me down in battery, bluetooth and screen(but it`s not a bad phone, the Siemens M65 which has bad,I SAY BAD BATTERY LIFE,had the Siemens S45 which i can say it was better than the S65,and finally(my 10`th phone and second Siemens phone)the ME45 which was a really good phone. Now that, the ME45 was a good outdoor phone...Not the M65 or the M75.Siemens instead of making an outdoor phone whit good battery life they stuffed it whit 256k color screen and megapixel camera and bluetooth which drain the life of the battery. And i dont think that a bussines man will buy the M75...It just doesn`t look that good, instead it looks like a brick.Too smal keys for an outdoor phone. For an active lifestyle i chose bettwen these two phones the Nokia5140i.What`s whit the resolution of the M75?????I say that it doesn`t fit the 256k display. At least Nokia doesn`t try to make something to look good if it`s not, like Siemens does. And another thing i have whit the Siemens is that is a German made phone,These German people....Hitler,Gobbels,Menghele...they just don`t look trusty to me.... :))))

  • I really dont agree about the call Id picture all nokia phones have small pictures including the smartphones(you can download aplication to make it big enough on those phones) and you say it doesnt need to have mpixel camera,mp3 etc... you say that you've got a N6630 and a 7.2pixel camera but many people just cant afford all those things or just want to have an all in one device.I myself have a k700i SE and i'm very satisfied but never had a problem with siemens phones(had c55,m55...) But you know what if you're satisfied with nokia then i'm satisfied that you're satisfied.I would be too! :)

  • I think that if u had an 5100 and if you liked it you will buy the 5140i becouse it`s better than M75.Don`t be fouled by the bluetooth and the megapixel camera of the M75.I don`t say this becouse i`m a Nokia fan,I`m not.I have this opinion becouse i had the siemens m65 and the nokia 5140 and from these two i say that the best is the 5140.Siemens put`s a lot of fetures in the m75 and the phone crashes and the battery is really bad,i mean 1 or 2 days of standby from siemensM65 is something else than the 4-5 days whit heavy ussage that i`ve got from the 5140.At least the Nokia keeps me when i`m going on a vacation in the forrest or on a lake and i`m stayng there 4-5 days.Siemens really desapointed me.I will never buy another Siemens phone again, maybe if i hear that they put a good software and battery in theyre phones and don`t lie about the standby time to fool people to buy theire phones.Nokia and SE rules for me.I think that if SonyEricsson make an outdoor phone, that phone would be the best from the best.Until then i preffer to buy something whit my money that it`s serving me well insted to throw my money away on a Siemens phone again(I had 4 Siemens phones and whit all i`ve had problems but 1,the ME45,that was a really good phone.).Nokia is my choise.Buy The 5140i if you want a good outdoor phone, but if you want a bad outdoor phone buy the M75.I will chose the NOKIA 5140i.Good work Nokia....but you can put a little more memory in a you future outdoor phones,at least 10mb.Bye.

  • Hunter,There are some people who are business people but also "clumsy":). I have changed so many mobiles because I keep dropping them and they end up scratched or unfunctional. Mind you that I also work in an office and I need a business phone and few days a week I like to go to the beach or outdoors and not worry about my phone. My Nokia 5100 has served me very well for almost 3 years, but now I will switch to M75 when it comes out, "MP3 Player, Bluetooth, large memeory, better screen,,," I think Nokia is trying to squeeze more profits from new buyers ,specially with a low price $200 , I doubt any 5100 or 5140 user will upgrade to an "i" version and I think Nokia will announce a rugged 6230 soon

  • Man....I had a lot of phones:Nokia Siemens Sony ericsson Motorola and many more.In about two years i`ve tested about 55 phone models.Siemens is a good phone company but Nokia is much much better. This is my Opinion.I`ve buy the Nokia5140i anytime instead of the M75.I1ve learn a lesson whit the M65 and i just don`t want to throw my money away like that just becouse it has a 1.3 mp camera(M75).If i wanna take pictures i have my camera..a sony DSC-L1 whit 7.2 megapixels. This is a real image not what the M75 offers.Think a little...You want a Nokia 5140i to serve you when you need it most or You want a Siemens M75 to dissapoint you when you need it?And the caller id on Nokia is big enough, maybe you should go to a doctor whit your eyes.Maybe you just don`t see well. The Siemens is good to but The 5140i will be MUCH BETTER.A LOT BETTER.

  • Personnelly i dont like the phone, but like Hunter said, i think it was designed for those who travel alot. Like hikers or something, therefore the phone doesnt need to be "up to scratch" but wouldnt it be nice to have a 1 mp camera? If your travelling around might aswell take nice pics lol

  • Battery on nokia lasts longer because of its poor resolution compared to siemens and have you tried switching the screensaver(clock) off->not posibble and what is with the call ID can it get any smaller, and for pit's sake why would I take my phone to the forest this is 2005 there is GPS,i do agree that siemens phones have some minor problems with the software speed but it works just the same good enough.

  • A...I forgot the Flashlight, this is goona really help me in the dark.BRILLIANT PHONE. And to those that want bluetooth in the 5140i,my message is THIS PHONE IS NOT FOR YOU.If you want a phone whit bluetooth buy a 6230i or another Good Nokia phone. But in the forrest where i work i don`t need bluetooth. At home,or in my car i have a Nokia 6630 and a Motorola Bluetooth headset.Get it???You aint goona talk on a bluetooth headset in the mountins while it rains or snows. If you wanna talk you have the activity headset, which in my opinion is the best headset i`ve ever saw.SiemensM65 is good if you are working in an office.Nokia is best.Bye bye.

  • I was wrong to say that SiemensM65 is better than Nokia5140i.I reanalized the two models and in my opinion the 5140i is a better outdoor phone that M65.Much better...Why?I gonna say why. 1.The battery is better in 5140i 2.It`s most durable than M65 3.It has most features and better for an outdoor phone. The M65 it`s just an cx75 in a rugged plastic.Say you are in a forrest and you are lost, you accidently have your 5140i whit you,You are gonna use the Compas to show you the way,or the Gps. Whit the M65 what you gonna use it for???? Take a 1.3megapixel picture? The 256k color diplay goona help you??The 14mb memory is gonna help you,or the mmc card??? I THINK NOT. For an outdoor phone the Nokia5140i is the WINNER!!!!!Good looking phone and rugged too.KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK NOKIA.. Now you know which outdoor phone i`m gonna chose....Don`t you?The BEST.

  • I think that the only thing that separates Nokia from Siemens is its fast and simple user interface I mean just look at the displays;nokia how much more of the 128x128p , memory 2,5mb, m65 10,32mb,and not to mention the siemens organizer that is absolutely step ahead from nokia, dont get me wrong I love it as well but it's getting pretty boring seeing same stuff in different design over and over again.

  • Why would anyone buy a siemens over a nokia. The battery lasts a day on them if your lucky and the software is buggy as mad. I mean they use the same battery as a cfx65 and they are the worst phone ever made after the c62 of course.

  • Hey guy i dont think that the 5140i is bad its preety good and if andy one of you know where i can get it now E-mail me!!!

  • Why Nokia? Why? not come up with a model like Siemens M75, Why not make a 6230 or a 6230i and put it in a shell ?? M75 will be out soon,,so will 5140i,, shoot, that means to wait another year for a Nokia with MP3 and bluetooth (thats a maybe) or go with M75. Stupid Nokia.

  • Hey all I realy think this phone is a cool one, being too hype is too dead, cooler is better.keep it simply seductive.

  • I disagree, I think this phone is far worse than any other phone that I have ever ever seen apartr from the ones that I have not seen that are obviously better than the ones we are discussing the exception of course is the models we have definatly seen but are sure that we dont really know if they are better in any way than the ones we are discussing.

  • I think this phone is better than any other phone ive ever ever seen that has been less better than this very phone we are discussing right now.

  • Fair go. This may not have bluetooth, but i certainly wouldn't urge you to buy a siemens m65 instead - those phones have issues!

  • Upgrade - screen, mp3 and edge. Bluetooth?

  • This Nokia is a very nice phone...but not very nice !! this phone is for mad people,he dosen`t breaks so easy...it resist in water !! wow !! what a phone !!

  • Nokia you should take a look to Siemens. And LEARN HOW TO UPGRADE FROM ONE PHONE TO ANOTHER.I really don`t know what you want to realise whit that 65k color screen. This is your best Nokia????!!!!I hope not.I own a nokia phone, the 6630 and i want to buy myself an outdoor phone but this is just garbage.I will Buy the M65 from Siemens.

  • No bluetooth....what planet are nokia on?? its a builders phone and builders are self employed and make and take calls in their cars and vans! der nokia!!!

  • I don't see why you would upgrade from a 5140 to this if it doesn't even have Bluetooth. I would just wait until a better upgrade comes out, one that has more useful new features (all it really has extra is MP3 and im sure you could cope with just having polyphonic until a much better version comes out).

  • It's the best phone in the world!

  • it has a very COOL design ...

  • According to some other review, comparing it to the Nokia 5140i, it states, "The new model is also slightly bulkier all around", does that mean, 5140 Xpress on Shells will not fit ?

  • Does anyone know if the new 5140i is equipped with bluetooth. not much use or different if it hasnt.

  • Does anyone know when this phone come shops in Finland. In Nokia website read that it arriwes on 2Q, 2005 and it is now... And has anyone bought it? How much it costed? In 5104 screen is worse than 5140i and that's the reason why I want this phone.. Can anyone answer to my email?

  • I am a workwoman and i love this phone! i take it to work at my building site!

  • No "durable" nokia has been annouced with bluetooth, Only Siemens M75

  • does any one no if a nokia durable phone is comming out with bluetooth

  • Hey guys no use off fighting. The thing is this has MP3 But its not a shock resistance. but in my knowledge the siemens M65 has that option. and the voice recording is so high u can record MP3 songs and as ringer tones Hhahahahaha

  • hi guys...just read my opinion here...imagine..when your in the middle of jungle or inthe somewhere in the ocean..do u think..u need that MMC, videocams Etc..etc..? all u need is help and something can help u to direct where are your location, in 5140i u will find a compass...its that great...think will u!!

  • :) he he that's where you go wrong mate. see the thing is although you're not aware of it, there are s/w where you can cut parts of full mp3 songs. that's like you can seperate abt 30 sec of the song you like and then cut it and use that as a ringtone. when you convert them if need be with another s/w it comes to abt 200kb mate. see? now that wasn't that hard to understand, was it? :) oh and one more thing, ppl aren't as lame as you to think this phone can play mp3 songs with just 3MB of memory dude:)what that amigo guy meant was the ringtones...like i said common sense duuuuude!!! common sense :) hope you find it. all the best...

  • Satan, pay attention this time and stop arguing with God.My post was to clarify michyael p. amigo post that the phone "has mp3". My statements was not about"mp3 ringtones"Nokia states that the phone will come with few mp3 ring tones you fool, my argument that this phone is not an mp3 music player as some people will be misled to believe, so when you stupidly state that the phone can fit few mp3"ringtones", we already know that, poop brain. Mobile Review states that free memory is about 2MB and thus I stand behing my statement "the average MP3 song is about 3-4MB,, do the math. Most likely, the phone will play few notes from a very small MP3 file. Got it."

  • hey Jo i sure have lots of space mate cos my skull ain't clogged with crap like yours...:) i'm not commenting on how much it could have been improved with this new version of it. it sure could have been. but i was merely pointing out wht you missed with regard to tht mp3 ringtone issue mate. if u dont know, just dont make it any more obvious buddy... cheers...

  • Rubaiyat, I can't agree more. I am still using N5100 and been waiting for a decent upgrade, bluetooth, larger memeory, MP3 Player,,not ring tones,"pay attention satan,,the only "sufficient space" is in your scull !! N5140i is a total disapointment for currnet N5100 and N5140 owners. We were expecting a 6230 in a shell:)Siemens M65 is a better choice and as I mentioned in an earlier post, looking forward for M75 in June.

  • Hey Jo, make sure you know what your talking about when u comment on something next time. A 30 second mp3 clip fit enough for a ring tone can easily be converted to about 200-250 kb. hence this can easily hold about 5 decent mp3 ringtones while leaving suffient space for other stuff. obviously you dont need a whole god damn song for a ringtone you schnook. leave out the math.. use common sense first mate.

  • I'm still using Nokia 5100 & I love it too much. I am too disappointed that the new Nokia 5140i doesn't add any special feature. It doesn't even have blutooth, extra memory card. It is giving mp3 feature, but memory is not enough. Then what is use of it? I think NOKIA 5 series is 1 of the funky set ever. But, it doesn't have anything inside it...

  • People, please pay attention to details and dont be misled by marketing gimmicks. Nokia states 24 polyphonic MIDI ringing tones, MP3 ringing tones, AMR audio clips . Since the phone has a Total Shared Memory of 3MB, the average MP3 song is about 3-4MB,, do the math. Most likely, the phone will play few notes from a very small MP3 file. Got it.

  • how i thought it has bluetooth, memory card, but its okey, it has mp3 and more clearer.than nokia 5140..but i still love my nokia 5140 its still kool...

  • Once aagain, Nokia highlights its "quantity over quality"...I am a phone sales person, and I can't stand it when they bring out a so-called "NEW" phone, when a customer asks, "what's the difference?"..."oh nothing, just the screen...".........I look on my phone wall, and there are about 20 Nokia phones on it, but not many of them are much different to the others. For instance, Nokia 7610, 6670 - the same pretty much! Nokia 7250i, 6610i - the same! In my oppinion they don't need to release so many phones!

  • If this phone had bluetooth it would be a lot easier to sell. Car kit compatible..and, a good selling point is.....if you work in an environment where it's dusty, moist etc...then leave the phone in your tool box (or tucked away in a pouch) and answer calls on the bluetooth headset when in these environments as you'd rather expose a bluetooth headset to this and run the risk of breaking a $100 unit, rather than having to replace a $500 unit! NOKIA, if you're reading this....a durable phone that supports car kit WITH CRADLE and is bluetooth capable is wanted by your customers...I am a dealer for Telstra, and this is needed! These a predominantly tradespersons, men, with big fingers...they need a key pad with BIG buttons, easy to read screen and all of the above!

  • I would have thought Nokia would have actually brought out bluetooth in a durable phone by now! The amount of trade people I speak to that need a durable phone that supports a car kit is huge! Tradespeople are always travelling in their cars to and from jobs...they are talking on their phones in the car all the time! It needs to be car kit compatible.....and also, there needs to be a durable CDMA phone version of this that supports a car kit with cradle so coverage can be extended with cradle/antenna!

  • why have nokia not put bluetooth in this kit, this will make it harder to sell in the u.k.

  • other than the amount of memory the specifications are really good... basically who ever buys this would only really require the rugged build + the ability to make and receive call... any discrepancies please add on...

  • im working in the open space (outdoor activity) and i need tought cellphone cause sometimes my phone was fall down hardly, im interinsting to get this 5140i do u know, is this one became to sell in Indonesia??

  • I am still using Nokia 5100 and love it, I passed the upgrade to N5140 and now disappointed by the N5140i. I am so much looking forward to Siemens M75. Nokia should know that Brand Loyalty is sacreficed if they don't keep up with the compition.

  • I rather choose Siemens M65 or Upcoming M75 than this Nokia phone! Trust me you will not dissapointed by buying Siemens product, especially for it's 'M' series with additional extra tough, water resistant, dust resistant, shock resistant! Viva Siemens, --- The Reverse Engineer ---

  • am a user of nokia 5100 its a good mobile i may change 2 5140i but i guess the memmory is small and the screen resolution could be better and does it record video . i gue i wi buy a siemens m65 better mem & screen .

  • can you download mp3 files onto this phone and how much money is the phone?

  • and btw real climbers & trekkers need 2-way radios rather than mobiles and both sports are kinda expensive so you still need to slave in the office and rather spend extra $200 on a good crampons that on a spare "city" nokia with bluetooth. why can't we have grades within the rough zone - i.e. 5140i and something as rubber but with 6230i features and ok - more expensive? otherwise will have to use 5100 for 10 years, god bless its durability

  • bluetooth, mp3 & card slot. where are they? my beloved 5100 needs a good replacement. give us 6230 in a rubber case! please...

  • 65K Colors?STN?128 X 128 Pixels? When this thing is launched, it will have the worst screen of all..

  • What Nokia really needs to do is release a series 60 version of this phone with quad-band and bluetooth support. If you really are an outdoors person into adventure sports, then arguably it is even more important to be able to have smartphone functionality than if you are just someone whose biggest adventure is taking a tube ride to Hackney because out in the brush you don't have the luxury to carry a lot of stuff like a laptop. Everything needs to be as self-contained as possible to maximize capability with a minimum of bulk but a maximum of ingrained toughness. This is what I thought the remit of the Symbian OS was supposed to be: a close substitute for a full-on PDA. With that said it is lacking a little in the connectivity options. Apparently Nokia likes to think that people interested in 'adventure' have no interest in toiling much beyond their shores or at least not much beyond major cities in the Americas. The inclusion of the all four bands would have been nice so as to make a mobile suitable for true globe-trotting adventure, which is what most adventurers really seek out. This is one area that Moto has them beat in spite of the fact that they have don't offer any ruggedized handsets (a shame). As for those of you who don't see a need for this kind of device, I would argue that even people who don't intend on trekking through harsh climes would be well advised to use more robust mobiles than the flimsy stuff out there now. Would be an shame if all those fancy RAZRs and 8800's ended up bruised, scratched and dented on the floor of Starbucks as reaching into our pockets to pay for the double-mocha latte we let these expensive digital toys get real airtime.

  • Very disappointed, been using Nokia 5100 for 2 years now and waiting for a worthy replacement. I think I will wait for the Siemens M75 and have hands on comparison and then decide. Unless I can find 5140 for a very decent price,If not will buy a new shell and battary for 5100.It stills serve me well in the desert.

  • im not picking on it, but i use to own a N5210 which is good and am now looking for a so call rugged phone but to fair Nokia fell apart when colour screens came in, never even came close to rival until recently. so pls Mr Rugged !!!

  • when i said no bluetooth i mean cannot use bluetooth headset, doesnt other headsets need wires, duh!!!

  • not an outdoor person, as the phone looks ugly and the extra features is for a person whos hiking in the mountains. UNLESS you mean an outdoor hiking person then yes.

  • Not looking graceful but have some extra features as: - EDGE - xHTML browser - Thermometer - Flashlight - Automatic volume control - Digital compass

  • ohk to the post below about the "Do Nokia want people running with wires all over their body". Im sure that Trapers and runners wont need bluetooth!, nokia has a range of handsets, you just dont need to pick on one of them, its rather sad, i find this phone to be a perfect outdoor phone, nice attractive design, ohh no so it doesnt have bluetooth, also "Ohhh the screen isnt 208x208 pixtels". That is pathetic, if you want a phone with a sharp clear picture go for the 6230i. Ill say it once more for you thick people, This phone is for outdoor people not phone freaks, and a VGA camera with 3x zoom With video up to 3 minutes on a 128x128 pixtle screen with 65k colours is perfect for an out door person

  • Could have been nice 2 years ago. But now why bother making such an "update" ? The saddest thing is that Nokia always find people to buy everything it makes. Must be kind of fashion i guess.

  • Ugly!!!

  • shame on the NOKIA, this phone sucks, and the price isnt right..

  • only one thing, no bluetooth. do nokia expect people to go running with wires all over their body???!!!???

  • 3.5mb internal memory and mp3 :-)

  • i dont understand this phone...nothing more than 5140..dun like it

  • Hmm - I see now that the old 5140 also claimed 'improved durability'. So not even that.

  • Just the 65K screen upgrade and a vague claim of 'improved durability'. Sorry Nokia - this alone is just not good enough. A disappointing stopgap solution compared to the upcomming Siemens M75.

  • Nice 4ne!i like it but when will it reach malaysia?

  • I hope they would launch it in india.i would buy the phone if nokia matches the price with features. it seems they expect us to buy their phones with no features at a premium because of the name. i have used nokia, siemens, motorola, samsung in last six years. all had their share of small problems. but nokia doesnot stand out for anything. will buy the phone if price matches the features or else will buy k508i at 190 dollars/ 9000rs. good bye nokia hello SE

  • no 3g no card slot

  • not bad, but my jaw didnt hit the groud either. if it would be not very expensive its ok.

  • er... i would expect TFT screen, better camera MMC 208X208 SCREEN, UGGH useless handset

  • Well did we really needed this mobile i think its outdated

  • this phone sucks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I personally think that jackson and hon are cray this phone is great. I'm guessing that they are rich snobs who are used to everything being great.

  • Finally Nokia has answered our prayers with the nokia 5140i.

  • hopefully this phone will be released in indonesia.

  • Very Nice phone, Nokia is one of the best designers on the market, and with the 65k colour screen i will deffently buy, And to the other people who have posted, this phone is for mountain climbers, hikers, outdoor kind of stuff, so i think this phone has it all for some one who goes out doors, it has a strong look, nice size

  • not special at all....

  • comoon nokia!! why not expandable memory? too much to ask? thats why I never bought 5140.. why not even bigger internal memory! its a "i"-model for gods sake!

  • watz different between 5140 n 5140i??? i tink itz same!!!! very crap feature!!!

  • I think that this phone is not so good an upgrade. Only has 65K colours, which is so common nowadays, and the camera still remains the same - VGA, which is rather outdated. So, basically, I think both phones (5140i & 5140) are almost identical.
