I have a thing for the Nokia XpressMusic series specially their first phones. I bought a Nokia 5300 immediately when it was released back in 2006 September. After that when Nokia 5700 came out , I literally went crazy for it but couldn't buy because i was a school student back then and my simply my parents buy me one. So after almost 9 years, last month I suddenly saw this phone for sale in second hand phone shop. The condition was really bad so I didn't buy it. But the next day I went to the shop again to actually buy it and it was sold ! But this pushed me to do even more. I surfed the internet and found refurbished Nokia 5700 from a Chinese website . Immediately ordered one and after around 20 days, I got it in my hands today ! It costs around 100 US Dollars ! Hopefully it will be worth it . I know it will be .

Hello there....you can format you cell phone back to factory set ....do this trick it never gets old...remove your sim card and your micro memo and make sure that you have all your personal data on an external memory ...and then :1.shuttdown your cell phone ..press the call botton +*+3+power botton ..and wait 10 second ....and you can see it's working % 100..

I've been using this handset for last 5 years and I have only come across small problems that can easily be solved: 1. Message memory fills up sometimes and you are unable to send any message. This problem can be solved by resetting the device to factory settings. 2. When you twist to use the camera and twist back to keypad, sometimes keypad does not work. This can be sorted by simply restarting the phone. I would love to get an update of this mobile from NOKIA with following improvements: 1. WiFi Connectivity 2. Increase in RAM/ROM and CPU speed 4. Atleast 5MP autofocus camera 5. Bigger Screen Overall this set is awsome and I'm not gonna change it as far as it works as it is working right now.

Well i had one of these for quite some time after exchanging for a 5800. Worst change ever. Hated the 5800. After that i really appreciated the awesome phone that the 5700 really is! I got a Galaxy S and now i own a Galaxy S III but still managed to get me one 5700 used and it just works and the battery just keeps on going, i just changed to text on the Nokia. I had many many phones from various brands but this is my FAVORITE and BEST phone i ever owned. I miss the days when Nokia made phones like these.

There is no way to get rid of the camera sound without messing up with the internal system. For that you need to connect your phone to the PC and hack it. I think is better to leave your 5700 just as it is right now, you´ll save time, a lot of effort and most important, your phone won´t suffer any risk to get dead in the progress (it can happen when you´re hacking a device)

(New Zealand) Ive had this phone for 3 yrs now & there is a couple of things that annoy me, one is that when using the speaker ph feature it freezes sometimes & cuts the call off & the other is when making connection to the bluetooth in our vehical, it can take a little while :( No other complaints though, such a kool phone!!

cpu monitor shows the speed as it was than in use. But in peak usage, speed increases to 369mHz. So both are correct. Same applies for RAM too. It has 64mb of ram but system uses some of it and it shows as 48mb. english is NOT my native language.

i've using this nokia 5700 since its arrival in 2007...its an absolute beaty i must admit. i have had no issue till date. its UI is friendly for amateurs..brilliany 16M display..battery backup-thumbs up...n so on.. off late..it has gone to nokia care only when a sudden high voltage had done some damage to the battery..n due mishandling camera connection got dislodged after 2.5 yrs. but d fact is that its time to move forward from 2.2 inches screens.. overall it was a really good in that 2007 arena...

This phone is with me since 3 years, i have been using it in the harshest environment possible, sweat, falling down, in dusty place, it has fallen from me more then a dozen times infact at times from a height of 5 to 6 feet(as em tall) yet it had always worked flawless, still working great, another plus point is the Camera which i think has no comparison with cuz its one of a kind in the 2MP class, only the cybershot edition in Sony Ericisson could go above its picture quality as this one has no AF, but above all this phone has such easy messaging keys that i can type more faster then i can type on computer, its the best set Nokia ever had made. :)

I had this phone for around 3 years and danngg it's tough. One of the toughest phones that i've ever had. Dropped it in the toilet like twice. Gotta pissed and thrown it against the wall where it like exploded multiple times where I had to put everything back together and it's been dropped idk how many times. After awhile the numpad started acting up and sometimes the keys wouldn't work. After taking it apart a reconnecting some of the wiring.. it was all good hah. The twist is the main thing that stands out with this phone. Whenever my friends would ask me about it and i'd twist it. They'd all be amazed haha. The camera isn't that great, but that's expected from a 2mp camera without AF. It's pretty easy to use, but was annoying how you couldn't adjust the volume on apps or music. It's pretty thick and doesn't have TOO many features, but Symbian OS that it comes with is decent enough and there's plenty of apps and games that you can download to keep you busy. No N-gage though :(.

I had this phone for 2 1/2 years and it was a really good experience. This phone has flawless music quality, a good quality screen, a great keypad, a very flexible OS and good conectivity options. I had recently purchased an E63 and it´s also good but I miss a lot the music quality of my 5700 XM. I also found more applications for my 5700 due to the vertical screen.

I've had tis fone from early 2007... and yhis is the best buy i made when the outdated n70 was selling like hot cakes... all thanks to reviews from GSM arena... TIll now i've no major problems ... updated latest firmware 4.27 (chinese version) when'll indian version come out ?? and playing NGAGE on this (check imserba for how to's) ... simply mind blowing... only i've had to change panels and battery once... and my twist is 90 degree outta focus... so, it slightly malfunctions when i twist it.. like non functioning buttons or reverse camera... and fckg nokia care doesn't care... they wont rectify it...

Hi guys, I also have that problem about the keypad when rotating to camera or Music Player. I have this problem since July 2009, I took my phone to a repiar shop, they told me it was the camera ( I thought it was the flex ) but they didn´t have the hardware necessary to solve my problem so I´m still using my phone even with this problem, when I rotate my keypad I just have to reboot my phone and keypad will be working again. I´m not using my phone to take pictures anymore, just SMS, calls (it does alright its most important functions) and sometimes music on speakers so I can live with that until I switch to other phone, hopefully on mid 2010.

I've had a wonderful journey with my Nokia 5700 XM. She has been a great companion to me, but now, it's time to say good bye. I've decided to upgrade to another Nokia. I have to say, once you get used to something, it's very difficult to change. She has kept me company in the bus, at my workplace, in my pitch black room when there were power cuts and mostly, when I was feeling sad and wanted to be alone. I just put on my favorite tracks and she played it so beautifully. She has such a wonderful voice, so clear, so enchanting, like a melodious bird... She never bailed on me. It's true. People say they have often experienced low battery problems, but I never had the chance. It seems as if she always knew when I needed it the most. The battery became low every time I came home, so I just had to put it on charge and she'd okay in about 90mins. When I first met her, I was kind of hesitant. She was so unusual. But then, when I got to know her, I realized that she was unique, one of a kind. I always felt her when a call came, always heard her, never missed a call or a text. She has always been around for me. She has such a sexy weight, rounded edges, comfortable and firm grip and her joystick, well, it brought me a lot of joy. I enjoyed navigating everywhere with her, she always brought me to the place I wanted. Rarely did I miss my destination. It's with a very heavy heart that i've decided to part ways with her. Life continues, so must we. We just have to adjust with it. I sincerely hope that the person who is going to be having you will take good care of you and that you will bring him or her alot of joy. I love you my Nokia 5700 XM and I wish you a very happy life.

I installed one Text reader application from Nokia Labs, but after that problem starts When i twist the phone for camera it doesnt start and when I twist again then keypad stop working even twisting many times. the last option is restart the phone. Hey according to GSM arena reviews N97 has a little bit better sound through headphones but on loudspeakers W995 is louder. Anyway remember that an smartphone (N97) will always be on another level vs a feature phone (W995)on functionality. But if you care about camera too you should consider N86 as well, it has good speakers but not as great as N97 or W995. Isn't ironic?? In my country an N86 8mp is cheaper than a W995.

ok. i've had this phone for around 2 years and haven't faced any problems until now. when i twist to cam mode, nothing happens, the numeric keypad keeps lit. when i twist to music mode it's okay. when i retwist it to normal phone mode, the Music keys are still lit, the numeric keys don't work and the phone goes into camera mode !!! When i restart, the numeric keys are lit again, but if i twist, same problem occurs. Any solution to this problem ???

i have it for about 3 years now, and I would only replace it for a touchphone. To date, no phone matches the sound quality of the loudspeakers (from what I've heard anyway). Yes the design is a little awkward, yes there is no bass in your headphones, yes there's no wi-fi, yes the loudspeakers could have been a tad louder, BUT the sound coming out of the speakers, makes up for just about everything. I absolutely love that sound. Oh and it's a smartphone too. Loaded it with tons of apps, games and themes and I still browse the menu and gallery with ease. My first concern when trying to buy another phone is: will the sound be at least close to this? If you know about a touchphone that has a decent pair of loudspeakers please gimme a holla. PEACE

Hey, Ya U can Turn on Constant Flash. What U have to do is to Turn on the Camera from Menu, instead of rotating, Then -options-turn on Flash- , Now this is the Main step, Take a picture by pressing Scroll Navigator,, (The Ball used to turn left right up down in Menu)and instantly turn the lower area to the left.. as u actually do to turn on camera, It should really be fast or U've to try again and again. Guaranteed the flash Wud turn On, If U need More Help ,, Go on Youtube and type there, , U'll get to know, I also learned from there.!!

the twister base of the phone is rock solid its not functioning with the help of a wire band like older twisitng models do , its using a magnetic twisting mechanism , so maybe all u guys who are having problems with it may havent used the phone safely . i had the phone about 1 1/2 years ago and i sold it out to a friend of mine hes now using it and still it never gave any problems , my friend is so glad he got this phone model , phones today are very smart and very carefully designed those new models got so many functions and they have so many parts inside em , its not like ur using a nokia " nokia 1100 " anymore u have to becarefull specially not to drop it , i never dropped none of my phones im so careful eventhough the chances of my phone getting damaged or getting fallen by my hands are so Unlimited , also im going out daily for different reasons plus i dont drive a car or a vehicale .

Bought this phone back in May of 2007. I'm really satisfied with its' performance. No hassles when browsing the web. Good sound quality from loudspeakers (I have 192kbps mp3 songs in a 4GB SanDisk microSD). Smooth playing of mp4 video files. Decent interface. The only part which I'm upset is the rubber flap. It's now detached from the body (but still can cover the card slot, charger and USB ports). Overall, no problems! I have version 5.11.

One of the the Nokia ever produced and its had to find one since they stopped making it so if you do have it you are sooo lucky. Best loudspeakers, great audio quality and my battery could last a week at times and the twist thing works flawlessly only had a small problem with the joystick once. but best phone ever!

I bought this phone November of 2007. It's pretty good. The cancel and delete keys need getting used to since they're placed differently compared to the conventional Nokia model. All other features are not top notch but serve their purpose. If you'd like a phone with the basic tech of today, I'd recommend this. That sound is a lil bit odd, that's not normal, I think your speaker is broken because it must sound as clear as the lower speaker. If you want to dissassembly your 5700 you can watch a tutorial on You Tube, it's very easy.

some firmware versions are only available to certain countries ... i suggest u use the firmware that the nokia firmware update site provides u ... using a different firmware that is provided for a different region or a country may give network trouble to your phone ...

Don't worry pal, the adaptor won't stop working. Even if the keys aren't working anymore you'll be able to use the adaptor to connect your standard headphones. The keys aren't working because the adaptor has a battery which is needed for the music keys. But the 3.5mm will work fine even if the battery is phased out. My adaptor's battery gave up 6 months ago so my adaptor keys aren't working but I'm still able to use the 3.5mm jack with no problems. You can change the battery but the screw is hard to reach because is under the adaptor's clip.

One of the biggest flaws of this phone is it lacks a 3.5 mm jack... I know its provided with an adaptor, but do u know the nokia warranty policy: 1 year for handset 6 months for batter 3 months for headset (thts the adaptor) 1 month for data cable Its 6 months since i hav bought this phone, everythigns great but my adapter keys aren't working anymore nd its no more under warranty.... dunno when the sound output will be cut off...

That soundw wonderful (about your FW,) I think I'll have to do the same to update cause I'm loosing my hope that some day will be an Update Via NSU for my 5700. After a year there is still no updates :( About the rest my phone is still working fine, I haven't problems with twisting section and the casing is fine too. My only concerning is about battery I think it's lasting less time than before, It lasts 1.5 to 2 days when I listen 3 hours music via headphones, 15min via speakers and 30min calls. Do you think is lil battery time?? If I play 30 min of games it lasts 1 to 1.5 days after charge.

Well I think 8gb is way too much for this phone but I have 11 months with my 4gb micro sd card and I'm not facing problems. Two weeks ago my card became corrupt but I only formated it and now it's working as new. That's not a phone's problem. Some other users don't complain about 4gb cards so I think 4gb is the max. recommended. My phone runs almost at the sime speed as with 1gb card

Even i thought that it works good with 8gb microsd but with time the phone will face problems...big problems. When nokia tells you that the phone supports 2 gb maximum,it really means it. Even if you use a 16gb it will work...for some time. Even i used a 8gb with my phone;after 5-6 months, i got problems with network coverage,then the phone kept on releasing heat when the battery was inserted,then i couldn't use it anymore. No one could repair it. Check forumnokia.com for device specifications and max memcard size.

the torch for 5700 can work without any use of application herez how u enable it access the camera through the menu, NOT through twisting set the flash to always on then take a picture with the joystick, then as soon as the flash goes out, immediately twist the phone 90 degrees opposite u the flash should be on then it stays on until u exit from camera application u can use this flash to shoot videos too

Yes thr is a way to Use it as TorchLight...... Im not sure abt the Video Torch tough..... It can RUN evn with 8GB card..... Tested OK.... Myself Im using 2gb card... They say its running without any prob in 8GB card too.. Hey Krishna... I'm also using this mobile from 30th July 2008.... Its magnificent phone..... Plz dnt twist the mobile vry often.... Just Got Nokia 5320 and just can't live with the fact that it has better sound quality , battery , latest Symbian and of course that 3.5 mm jack than my Fav 5700 wich is my primary phone.......m using v5.11 but just can't think just what was d reason behind Nokia leaving dat 3.5mm jack and providing 2.5mm ?? at least music quality and overall the phone's usability as a standalone music player wud hve been much better.......anyways still luv my 5700.....its cool n fast n stable....though i prefer another firmware upgrade to add sme fizz to it as its hardware specs still show dat its capable of much more.......

there maybe a corruption in ur memory card i suggest u fully format the memory card ... after that do a master reset to ur phone which will bring all the phone settings to defaults ...

no software to improve camera , its just the firmware update . if u update it to the latest it may fix some bugs and may improve the camera quality a little more . its a music phone so the capabilities are more for music not for camera .

nokia 5700 aint available in the market any more nokia have betrayed its valuble customers and have stopped the product before it even took one year after its release they only released few firmwares which were only available for some countries , and they removed there official nokia 5700 review pages saying those are under construction but those were never seen again . what people really want is a phone model that wont be thrown away like garbage after few months what they want is music capability and good camera with or without flasher and all the needed functions unless if he or she is a businessman . nokia should think of that before another s.e. w910 wins the award this year just like in mobile world congress 2008. i still love my nokia 5700 but i love my new k850i .

Yeah the 5700 has great music capabilities. I'm thinkng on replacing it next year when I have some money and I'm thinking on N79 cause it's affordable and has everything I need, I prefer a better camera because my digital camera is BIG. It needs a case because it doesn't fit in any of my clothes pockets. It's a Sony H5 so I need a more pocket friendly camera and N79 is a good choice I think, I don't need so many megapixels and have no enough money to think on i8510

Hey, i am having problem on restoring Backup.arc. when i try to restore tha backupo file that is 7mb large, it just exits the Memory Card Application and it hangs up forever unless i pull off the battery... I try leaving it for 2 hours just to give my phone grace period to restore that 7mb worth of PIM data but then i fail to achieve victory... After one and half year with this phone i find that only shortcoming in comparison with the latest phones is scarcity of RAM. I have around 13 to 15 mb of free RAM which is ok for normal operations but affects browsing. I love this phone and going to use this as pocket FM, music and video player once I upgrade to other phone. I use firmware 5.11.

My only complain about 5700 is the camera performance on night, even the flash doesn�t save the day but it�s almost the same thing with any phone camera. So this isn�t a dealbreaker for me. Excluding that this handset is very good, even better if it has any Firmware newer than 3.27 because this version has some bugs like restarts.

You don't give enough information of your problem to reply you with an answer. But I think it could be the flex (a wire that connects the twisting part with upper body), maybe you'll need to replace it and isn't so cheap (in my country is like 50 U$D). But if your phone is still under warranty you should have your 5700 repaired for free

Well I can't try N96 for myself cause itsn't available yet in my country and its way too expensive. I can't afford that. About the review sites I have found divided oppinions, every people say N96 has great sound quality but sites like mobile review and all about symbian wrote that N96 isn't at the level of N91, nor N81. And All about symbian said N96 had some issues with video playing but I think this will be corrected with firmwares. Almost every new phone has its bugs but becomes better and better with updates. I think N96 will be the same story

you are probably not up to date with the latest fuzz! many n96 users are testifying that n96 has better sound quality than both n91 and n81. browse the n96 forums here in gsmarena and mobile-review. or if youre not convince, why dont u try for yourself? youll find out n96 has the best sound quality among all phones today! n96 is the ultimate multimedia device. n96 may not be the best in camera since it doesnt focus on imaging but it is the best in media decoding whether audio or video playback.

N81 is better in music department but N91 is still ahead and I doubt �t�ll be surpassed in the near future because it�s way too loud and has a different audio chip. But anyway this isn�t Nseries forum, this is 5700 forum and is still a great phone, great music, is cheaper and has an unique shape.

the only factor in which the n81 is more serious in gaming than n95 is that it has a gaming button but n95 does better graphics and contrary to popular belief, n96's music capabilities isnt really as good as they say...n81 and n91 are still ahead of it... and as far as camera goes... n96 is also a lower tier camera performer of the 5mp batch... n95 specializes on multimedia.... it has a big screen.....

Well, there isn't invincible phone but 5700 is tough enough. I have it since January and I have droped it many times (I think + or - 20) and I have no problems. Yeah the casing has its little scuffs here and there but they aren't so visible only if you watch the phone very close. The screen is like new, no dead pixels, the flex and twisting part is great too, no problems so far. So I think 5700 is tough enough for most people.

When I had my 5700, its' firmware is v.5.11. Try paying a visit to Nokia Care, they'll help you with it. I remember I got my phone's firmware updated last April 2008. Now I've switched to a N79. 5700 was performing very stable when I updated its' firmware.

Dude. Its not our problem that you cant afford to upgrade the firmware. Thats just too bad. Even in the first firmware version v3.27, ive never had the phone hanging. The problem was that it would just restart in the middle of anything occassionally. But this has all been fixed in v5.11. Its called "UPGRADING THE FIRMWARE". Too bad SE phones do not even GET them to fix all the shitty crap they put into their phones. Awwwww..... And speaking of music quality, why are you comparing it with SE Walkmans??? QUESTION: Can Walkmans even compete with the music quality of the N81, N91, 5310? ANSWER: Not in their wildest dreams. If you're gonna compare a Nokia, you're going to just have to do it with another Nokia. Not shitty SEs that arent even worth comparing to.

It's a hardware related problem bro. It is due to internal twisting of wires around each other. Same problem i had experienced 2 months back. Get it repaired from nokia care centre since flashing firmware won't help. By the way, is there any new firmware after v5.21?

Its definitely hardware related. But anywayz, what firmware are you running? I think that the connection junction which takes care of the functions of the different swivel positions has experienced a cross-connection. In other words, there maybe a short-circuit each time you twist the swivel. Each time you restart, the short-circuit is reset. You should probably get the phone 3rd-party serviced since you're past the warranty period.

I'm down guys....I've been using 5700 since 14 months now, and since 2 days, the twisting part is responding awkwardly...instead of the 3G mode, its the music player which is opening, and the normal mode, by the camera...and once you turn the twisting part, the keypard does not work anymore...I have to restart the phone to get it back working...does anyone know if there is something that can be done?...:(:(

The graphics look really cool in Real Football 09. I have this game on my 5700 and definitely looks better than JAVA games but it's still not at the level of N-Gage Games. Every Symbian game has very elaborated graphics so you'll like 5700

@ celladik and N5700xm N79 works awesome! The keys are good and texting is comfy. The music quality is somewhat comparable to 5700. The good thing is I'm able to use my Shure SE420 with the remote. The wire isn't lengthy which is good for my earphones. Wi-Fi is fast especially whenever I sip and hang-out in Gateway. The loudspeakers sound louder than 5700. It's somehow at par with N73's loudspeakers but it has more bass in it.

@5700mx@ yeah, your right since the release in 2007 i always check the price in our nearest mall. still, the price doesn't decrease that much, 11,000 is so high compare to my budget, but ofcoures nokia made some more music phones, but i still love the uniqueness of 5700 rather than 3250.. i'll wait until last quarter of 2009, im sure that the price is much cheaper, but lucky me if i found some brand new 5700 ;)

i prefer n82 over n79. n79 is made based on n78. they're of the same hardware platform. n82 is made based on n95's hardware platform. i still think that the recent nseries n82, n95 and n95 8gb are better than the new batch n79, n85, and n96. the new batch have just a fresher look and feel. but the old nseries have better hardware platform which is the most important above anything else. the special thing about n81, on the other hand, is it's the best nokia music phone even if it's more one year old already. the new nseries phones have no specialization.

n81 8gb is around 350 dollars now. n81 is even cheaper than n81 8gb. 5800 is not yet out in the market. 5800 costs 279 euros MINUS the tax, shipment cost, and retailer profit. so by the time 5800 gets finally released in retail stores, it will cost at least 350 euros depending on the market. it's not as cheap as you think it is! while n81 8gb is currently trading at 350 DOLLARS (P16,000), 5800 will be trading at at least 350 EUROS (P22,000). 5700 upgrading to n79 is an upgrade for a change. 5700 is a music-oriented phone. n79 is a midrange all-rounder not focusing on anything. n91 is a great phone but it's pointless for a 5700 user to upgrade to a 3-year old phone just for sound quality. n81 has the best sound quality among all nokia phones, second to n91 only. it's even has better sound quality than any of the latest nokia phones around because it has the same hardware audio chip of n91. n81 is a worthy upgrade from 5700 if you're priority is still music. 5800 is also worthy upgrade but it's a lot more expensive. n79 is also worth it but it doesn't focus on music and sound quality. well i guess, n81 is not really for already-5700 users. i would instead suggest the future buyers to choose n81 over 5700 if they're planning to buy a great music phone for the best value!

I definitely agree with you, I'm thinking on 5800 to replace my 5700 or maybe an N79, it'll depend on my budget the next year. Every time I replace my phone I want more features and I think N81 is more or less the same package with little improvements, but 5800 and N79 improves a lot compared to N81 so I wouldn't look to N81 to replace my 5700. Dude. However good the N81 is at music, it will NEVER be able to surpass the exceptional audio quality of the N91. So if a 5700 owner is looking for better AUDIO QUALITY and NOTHING ELSE, its the N91, however outdated it is (its still the best at music). And if a 5700 owner is looking for BETTER AUDIO QUALITY ALONG WITH UPGRADED OTHER FEATURES, they should obviously go for a NEW one, not an 8-month old N81. The 5800 would cost around the same price as an N81 8GB. So I would rather go for a 3.2" touch-enabled S60 5th Edition, 3.2mpAF cam, GPS with all-round multimedia capabilities, rather than an 8-month old model at about the same price. They both cost the same, so why not go for a new device? Just expressing my views.

No doubt it's an excl'nt phone. One suggestion for those who r facing problem with it's headset ( model AD-44), it contains one 3.7V Lithium cell inside which is replacable. Replace it and your most of the headset related problems will be gone . clue for replacing cell ... open the rear clip first by removing the thin hinge.

Well, all I can say is that upgrading any phone via the "erase current firmware fully and THEN installing the new one" method over cable is not 100% guaranteed. Because you might be one of those unlucky people who fall victim to a unsuccessfully flashed, DEAD phone. But I upgraded mine successfully and believe me, its really worth it. The whole process is actually very easy upto the point where it erases the current firmware and starts installing the new one. When the new one is finished installing (shows 60% of the whole process), the phone is supposed to reboot by itself. But in my case, it didnt reboot, and the screen remained blank. This is the point where you think "OH F*CK, MY PHONE'S RUINED". But what you have to do is disconnect the cable and reboot manually. The thing is that, the phone doesnt reboot on itself after erasing and installing the new firmware. YOUR PHONE'S NOT DEAD coz the new one's already been installed. Just disconnect and restart it manually. Voila! The phone successfully rebooted and I was in possession of a 5700 with v5.11 (although Phoenix said UPDATE FAILED because i disconnected on 60% of the whole process). No big deal really. And Phoenix CAN flash dead phones. So basically, its not a risk. Its safe. Anything goes wrong... we're always here to help.

I think this is the greatest Xpressmusic phone ever. I acquired this last July 2007 and it is still in perfect working condition. The keypad and the joystick respond quickly and though its sound isn't loud as other xpressmusic phones it has the clearest sound among them (crystal clear, I tell you) because it has two output speakers. I like its 2.2" display screen and how the brightness adjusts when a lighting of a room changes. There was this incident when I accidentally dropped it in my doctor's clinic. I picked it up and checked if it is still working. It is still working but it got little unobvious scratches on a side. This phone of mine has a 512 MB in it and most of its space gets consumed because of the music files that I import. But this phone freaks me out sometimes [possible reason: because its memory is almost full]. This phone would restart all by itself when I send 1 SMS to 7+ receipients and when I play music. And it would hang and restart occasionally when I twist it.

Hey guys lets have peace, this is 5700 forum not N81 forum, we are here to solve questions, write our experiences about our 5700s and help people with doubts about this phone. I really have no complains besides firmware, I can live with that, but the whole phone itself is great, in few days my 5700 will be 10 months old, it's a tough device, it's a tough music phone and has some great features but if you want more you can download better software. Enjoy it!

Yea.... so? N81 was released more than 6 months later than 5700. Its obvious that its a better device. That doesnt mean that 5700 is not a good phone and 5700 users have to switch to N81... Upgrading to N81 from 5700 is not worth it... if you want music quality, go back to N91 (its THE BEST). If you want other feature sets, get a newer higher end device like the N79 or N85.

I'm sorry.. but there is no way to apply an image as a full screen wallpaper on a series 60 3rd edition device. Its really a major thing that should be dealt with. Like you said... whatever you do, the top and bottom parts of the screen will not be covered. The only way around this is to make your own theme. Select your own picture as the background, tweak other areas to your liking and you're done. The S60 Carbide UI is complex to use... but does everything. I'm sorry.. but there is no way to apply an image as a full screen wallpaper on a series 60 3rd edition device. Its really a major thing that should be dealt with. Like you said... whatever you do, the top and bottom parts of the screen will not be covered. The only way around this is to make your own theme. Select your own picture as the background, tweak other areas to your liking and you're done. The S60 Carbide UI is complex to use... but does everything. For all of you who want to upgrade to v5.11: I just updated from v3.27 directly to v5.11 with Phoenix Suite. In comparison to any other FW version, v5.11 is the best. 1) Its extremely stable. I have had no unwanted restarts since I upgraded (which is about 4 days ago). Thats a big step ahead from v3.27 where the phone would just restart in the middle of anything unexpectedly. On restart, if you call anyone or anyone calls you, the phone mic didnt work. I mean that even if you were screaming on top of your voice, the other person couldnt hear a thing. The only solution to this was to restart the phone manually. But this annoying problem has been fixed in v5.11. 2) In v3.27, the "Last Call Duration" in "Log" would always show 00:00 or 00:01 even if you're last call was like 2 hours long. v5.11 now gives the correct information. 3) When talking on the phone for long periods of time, say more than 10min, the phone would get unbelievably hot. This also happened when the phone was used as a modem to your PC. in v5.11 the phone doesnt do this and it just gets warm enough how it should. 4) in 5.11, sound quality has improved a bit through loudspeakers and earphones. Sound distortion has definitely decreased, and its more comfortable to listen to music for longer periods. Its definitely worth upgrading to v5.11 without any doubt. If you havent done so already, DO IT NOW! Its easy. Do it with Phoenix. DOTSIS LINK:

something I noticed about 5700 and n81 5700 has alot better camera than the green tinted, noise polluted, pictures that the n81 does even with flash everything is green...seems like the default camera of n81 is actually an application to turn smiling people in the pictures, into incredible hulks I mean wadapak, even on good daylight, there are always shades of green(noise) on poor lighting, the camera is greener than ever, use the led flash and it turns the subjects in the image white-green white on the inside, green on the outside shucks in terms of camera n70=5700>n81

I bought my Nokia 5700 November last year (2007). I can be slightly slow if you have a lot of files (music, pictures, videos, etc), but not too slow, just a bit. I wanted a phone with quadband (850/900/1800/1900), 2MP camera, 2.2 screen, MP3 player, video and camera recoreder and 3G. The only thing it lacks is Wi-Fi and touch-screen. But for its price range, it's no surprise that it doesn't have it. Bottom line, I think it's a really good phone for its price range and is almost at par with the N series. I plan to keep this phone for about 3-4 more years. :)

5700 is a smartphone. So it can run applications in the background. You don't have to close the video player. Just pause the video and press the menu key twice. After you are done, press and hold the menu key and then select the video playing app again to resume your playback. Also to FF/Rew just press and hold the up/down on the joystick respectively in Real Player.

All I want to know is that which one of these is more stable. I'm done with i think 30-40mins with the downloading speed of 100-120kbps including downloading and flashing. Benefits: stable(i experienced atleast one reboot after FW update since then no more restart. Speedier Music player is better(Headphone) Unfortunately Flashlite 3 are no success

i've found d fault.. :) the song which i played before the reset was 128kbps mp3 n after reset i played same song, but 64kbps aac.. the song compression might have looted the sound effects.. when i played the 128 kbps version of the song, the effect came back :) I have downloaded the latest firmware to my pc. can u please tell me, how much time will it take for the update? what all new things can i expect from the fw? is flashlite 3 preloaded?

yeah..with headphones the thing is different, unmatchable sound quality.. can i ask a doubt? when i got ma fone, i uploaded some songs and played the songs. A particular song has some special in it and i have heard that thing in dual speaker fones only, like 6270.. when i played that song for a few times i was impressed by the effect..i remember all the audio settings at that time.. i then had a factory settings reset n when i opened the player then, the effect had changed, the effect which i enjoyed was no longer present..

No its not as loud as 6233 or n73 but 5700 is better in quality and clarity. take a time to listen in a very silent room play the 3 phones with the same music files you will see what i mean(loudspeaker). but yes of course none of the two can beat 5700 in headset. my sister got 6233 and my cousin got n73. and its a must to update your FW.

The Flashite3 in N81, N82, E90, N95, N95-8GB and FP2 devices is built-in to their firmware and Web Browser and thats why they can view Desktop YouTube with default Web browser, the downloadable FlashLite3 player will not add these functions unfortunetly.

flashlite is a software created by macromedia that lets you view flash contents with SWF and FLV extensions. flashlite 1 & 2 can view simple SWF flash clips only. older s60v3 devices have it. flashlite 3 lets you view FLV flash videos like those youtube videos. all s60 3rd edition fp2 phones have it. some s60 3rd edition fp1 phones also have it by default with the latest firmware such as n95, n82, n81, etc. 5700 doesn't have it but you can download the software.

I know because nokia europe clearly stated that 5800 has crystal clear hifi sound through surround stereo speakers with dedicated audio chip [DSP chip to be specific] It's the same description as for nokia 5700 so i'm sure that both phones will be having similar audio quality. By the way, eldar from mobile-review stated that nokia 5800 has very loud speakers compared to recent ones. That's another good news. 5800 will be available in 7 countries including india from 3rd week of november.

In Mexico is the same, some phones cost way more than others even if the price tag is cheaper on Europe. I hope when the 5800 come to my country the price tag be adequate like the European market. Hi It depends, the 5700 takes passable photos & videos for a 2 megapixel phone. But the camera is not very good at night. I use a little technique to improve the camera quality. I actually use my 5700 as a digital camera.

Don't worry bro. I had faced similar problem a month back. I got it repaired from nokia service centre. It's not your fault. The twisting part is defective. That's why this phone was probably withdrawn. I'm gonna buy nokia 5800 express music once it becomes available in india. Since it has the same audio chip which 5700 has, sound quality will be outstanding. It is also said to have very loud loudspeakers. Perfect phone for me.

the twist function just failed on me :/ donno if i'm the only one here. I rarely used it (less than once a day for sure), and I never dropped the phone or anything of the sort. When I turn to camera mode, nothing happens When I turn to self portrait mode, music player opens If I put it back to keypad mode, camera opens and the keypad never works again until reboot.

Ive try to use a needle to remove a thing that locks the spring in the clip,but no luck.so im very desperate to rem0ve it,i use a flat screw and f0rce it,in my case,the plastic clip became flexible,thats why it d0esnt br0ke,but n0w,its quite in disf0rm.wel atleast i have my clip though.lol,and aftr i rem0ve the clip,i rem0ve the very small screw.then aftr that,i use a small flat screw to rem0ve upward the silver part(the rem0te facing u)then i rem0ve the keys.then i gently m0ve upward the b0ard,then underneath is the battery,then replace it.and n0w,its w0rking.

You won't have problems with SanDisk micro sd cards. Mine is SanDisk and no problems so far, it's a 4gb class 2 micro sdhc. The class means the transfer data speed so if it's class 2 it means a transfer data speed of 2mb/second. There are class 4 and 6 too but I haven't tested those. I think the phone will have the same speed with those cards and the difference in speed will be only when you transfer data through card reader.

I don't think so, you must update only if your phone have some problems like reboots. As far as I know v3.83 is a very stable firmware so I think you aren't having serious problems. An almost full memory card will slow down the phone but not to much. I have a 4gb micro sd with only 800mb left and I'm not experiencing lags, only in the gallery but that's all.

Unfortunately i can't extract files from search v4.00, it seems to be protected, i used unsis v3.1 but didn't work, all other sis file extraction worked well but not with search. Now i will use sisware v4.7, hope i will get success.

you will not end up eith a dead phone with phoenix, in phoenix 2008 there is an Option to flash dead phone. also there is no difference with NSU and phoenix, people are just afraid to do it since everyone who give the tutorials always says at the end "Do it at your own RISK". And also this is what some people didn't know, Nokia service centers also use Phoenix for upgrading. One more thing, upgrading with phoenix is faster than NSU, i've both with my phone, 3.27 NSU to 3.83.1 Phoenix to 5.11.

That's much better than my 5700 with 3.27 which reboots like 2 times per week. Concerning about your battery what a shame because the phone itself is very good and has lots of features. Anyway if I were you I wouldn't care to charge it daily, I think I would prefer that over my buggy firmware. Regards too

About your battery I think you have to replace it. Mine lasts 2 days if I use it a lot, actually I have 3 days without charging my 5700 and I hd used it for calling, listening to music and even playing some games. That was an achievement for me because always the battery went flat about 2 to 2.5 days when using it. If I'm not using it (only some SMS and calls) it lasted 4 days

Hey bro I know I had a lot of time without post here, that was mainly because the college but I recently I'm taking some little time to post about my 5700 and solve some doubts as well. ABout the v5.11 for me it's available but only trough Phoenix, the problem is that here in Mexico my service provider haven't approved yet any firmwares after 3.27 so I'm stuck and I don't want to use Phoneix because I'm affraid to kill my phone and I haven't enough money yet to upgrade (I want N79, maybe for the 2Q next year). I sent a mail to Nokia cincerning about my firmware and they replied me very fast. They said that the firmware availability depends on service providers, not Nokia itself so I can do nothing but wait. Anyway I'm happy with my 5700 the reboots are the only things that sometimes hate but nothing special. Which firmware do you have on your 5700??

Of late I am facing a problem with my 5700, After successful flashing to 5.11 the phone is very stable but i am facing the following problem. I use a provider (BSNL) whose signal is very erratic and weak in my area. Once my phone looses signal it is not able to latch on to the signal again until i reboot the phone. I have tested with phones other phones and they can reclaim the signal automatically once i move from a no signal to high signal area. Secondly if i change my provider (AIRTEL) i find no problem with my 5700. Now my questions are: 1) Is it a problem with my provider (BSNL), if yesbthen how come other phones are able to search and reclaim signals automatically fromnil to high signal area ? 2) Is it aproblem with my 5700. Then why the signal is not a problem with AIRTEL Anybody can comment on that or give a solution. Thanks.

I asked the same question once. None is better than the other. If you want camera & 3d gallery, buy nokia n73, if u want symbian 9.2, music & speed buy 5700. I think 5700 is better!! some geeks might disagree!

You can update your firmware, most of your problems if not all will be solved. Anyway even with the problematic firmware (v3.27) I haven't all those problems, sometimes it's irritating but not at the point to call my 5700 a piece of crap. It's a very good mobile for me.

A real nice phone to have, Although camera churns out good pictures but quality fades rapidly while in dark. Multitasking is just great, indeed Nokia have placed a sharp brain in this one. Internal memory is good at about 64MB, expandable to 2giga. Sterio speakers are nice, try listening bass intense songs, they sound great.

Thanks for the tip, but it seems to risky, I don't want to break the clip and I can't find the way to access directly to screw without breaking the clip. The needle doesn't help so I left the adaptor untouched.

I was also thinking of buying the N82 for camera alone since my N95 8GB has no Xenon flash but I worry about N82's very poor build quality. By the way, my 5700's joystick broke a week ago so I'm using my N95 8GB now as my main music player. I kinda miss my 5700.

The cases are cheap. My sister works at a phone repair store and she told me that the cases are easier to be break than the original. so becareful. i have my original case but the back cover i replaced. a lens is included but dont use it because i believe it will decrease the camera quality. so its up to u if u want to change case. i did not change my case i changed my mind. lol! cheers!!!

I have changed the cover too. It's black (the original was red) but I don't like it a lot, because the back part isn't rubbery (compared to the original casing) and it's darker than both sides (there is some variation in the black color so the battery cover is darker). Anyway my 5700 looks cool :)
