This phone is like a Swiss army knife. It is simple, specific and beats iPhones and samsungs and whatever else smartgadgets right out of the water. It is like Nokia E75, but it looks cooler, its function is impossible to describe shortly. This is a good phone. I have used it quite roughly for 3 years and it's still functioning well. Pros: the big slideout qwerty keypad is what makes it standout, great internet connectivity. Great for texting/iming. Fairly good camera. Cons: the power management is not good. Battery life is not as much as the phone demands. But that goes for most smart phones nowadays. But it's easy to take out the battery from it, so buying an extra battery solves the case.

the right dpad navigation key is not working properly after a year of use its not a hardware failure but it is some kind of charging contradiction with the bios i think it kinda sticks some time the key and also the left and right shortcut key the do not respond to user pressing does any one else have this prob if yes then please tell me if u find any solution

Have been using this phone for 1 year and 6 months. It's great! the only thing is that whenever I play a video that I have recorded, after 10 seconds or so, the phone will restart. I don't know why.. Hello carbide or Hello OX or whatever it's called is just crap. Tried on 2 different symbian phones and to no avail. I took a different route altogether. You'll have to do a bit of reading to get the cert thing working. You'll need an application called Free Signer which can sign all unsigned applications. Try googling Free signer for s60v5 and you'll get loads of pages. Been using it for a while and have no complains till now. Good luck! Hacking your phone is not a good idea too. It can mess up alot of things.

It is a good phone. But it has a problem in keypad that if i press the key "6" then it shows "mh". I have tried to solve the problem by updating the firmware. But it doesn't work at all and it has no stereo(2) speakers at all. In spite of being XpressMusic it has only one speaker and so its music quality and sound is very low. So why should u buy it at a higher price but lower quality than 5800 XpressMusic ? !!! Dont Buy This 5730 XpressMusic or will regret for this like me. !!!

its camera performance is average at best, maybe one of the weak points of the phone (aside for the weakish loudspeaker), very bad for a 3.1MP cam compared to SE cybershot's 3MP, good thing it has autofocus, and shots at nighttime are not that bad when you upload on PC, its brighter than i thought, well, much better if it has xenon flash..

my nokia 5730 xpressmisic hangs or slows down sometimes or go off automatically when i'm using it,i've been asked to update it,but if i update it through nokia pc suit or directly on the phone will i loose all files and applications i've saved in it? And is this update advisable?what risks are involved? Another problem i have with it is that somethines my airtime starts vanishing automatically when i didn't use is but if i uninstall my email notification and install it again the problem stops temporarily for like two weeks then it starts again....what coud possibly be the cause of this problem?

I owned this cellphone about two weeks ago. This XpressMusic is really worthy. The slide qwerty is soft and easy to press, although sometimes I made mistakes because of its small size. The camera is average. I once owned Nokia 6500 slide that has same 3 mega pixels with this one, however the quality is lower than 6500. The camera shutter that placed in the right side of the phone sometimes makes me difficult to capture a photo. The slide mechanism also makes the case become worse. For the other features, I really enjoyed this phone. So, overall, this phone is still worthy to buy.

2 pretty good apps to have: cclock (free app)which gives you a large clock in standby mode and best reminder (small amount to buy) which beeps every minute to let you know when you have missed call or SMS message when the screen goes off.

If you fed up with keep signing sis apps (or hate the certificate error message) consider a one click hack from helloox2 - it may ruin your warranty and damage your phone so use with caution and read up on it properly, after phone hacked with helloox2 you can just download unsigned apps and install them without the annoying certificate error.

Really good phone I am liking it, its bulky alright but I dont mind, shame the keyboard letters on main keypad and qwerty keyboard and fonts are done in silly little dots but I suppose thats the design of the phone to entice the young/gaming people to buy it. Rather would have had notification LED flash on top of the phone, the play/music keys are bit hard to press /select on my phone, battery seems to last very good, camera pictures are pretty grainy/poor in low light even with the LED flash on, maybe it should have had xenon flash. being music phone it should have 2 quality sounding stereo speakers on it instead of one small tinny sounding one. memory card is very fiddly to put in and out of phone at the side but at least you dont have to take back off phone to insert memory card which is good. Fonts of bluetooth and wi-fi icons sooo and some onscreen fonts tiny as on most nokia s60 phones. Should have been able in settings to program those top buttons for other things to do as well as n-gage. cracking good phone though if you dont mind the bulky size of it.

I have used many phones. And my ranking is 1. Blackberry 2. Android 3. Symbian 4. Iphone I wanted all features in a single phone. Blackberry is weak in multimedia, androids dont have a battery life. Iphone too much to pay for the feature you can have in less in other brands. So i am now using 5730. And as i make things simple and keep them simple so i sum up 5730 as Nseries + Eseries + n-Gage + XpressMusic = Nokia 5730! It has excellent music, fine camera, good email, im, internet connectivity and full keyboard, cool gaming. And this is all in one phone. Only one thing could have been better and thats its battery life but having all those features packed in one device. I can live with that.

in my opinion nokia's biggest failure is nokia E52. if someone bought a nokia phone for the first time and if it was an E52, he would never ever go to a nokia store in his life even if he had to move without a cell phone.

1. i never had an issue connecting to the main server of n-gage. the free game serial thats been attached with the 5730XM package, i used it to unlock a multiplayer game called 'reset generation' and i liked playing over the net with others and the n-gage software kept track of my progresses without any problem. 2.i never had any problems regarding the missed out key-presses and like you, i do use the numerical keypads without any problem. i only used the keyboard when chatting with frnds. still never saw it being slowed down. 3. yes you are right on some points as it is bulky. 4. i only faced the slowed down problem when accessing large websites or bigger office files. apart from that everything ran fine. 5. apart from browsing,chatting,gaming and reading my lectures, another thing i did was to listen to music and thats the thing i did most of the time and it is really gud. i just loved it. 6. everything i wrote in past tense coz rite now i gave it to my mom as i wanted to shift to a bigger screen and wanted to try out a touch screen. but, 5730 never let me down i must say. 7. maybe you are having problems for some other purpose. maybe the firmware of your cell phone is not installed properly. reinstalling the firmware could help u i ges.

Alright, so I finally got my 5730 and I have some things to say about it, but first let me tell you where I'm coming from... I bought my previous phone for $60 off Craigslist a year ago, which was a Nokia 5310 XM, which I still have but just wanted that little extra "umph" with memory space on the phone (so I could run multiple apps), and maybe a few new features but that still looked the same, was music-oriented, and would just be fun to have. Well, even though some would refer to the 5730 as an upgrade, I don't think so. Depends what you look at as an upgrade? I mean, beyond the bells and whistles, there are some major problems with this thing. My first impression: it's twice as big as the 5310. This means now I have to actually carry a new device on me because, well, it was $300! Sure the screen looks beautiful and you can "play n-gage games" (which I never was able to get to work because the app for it was just a mess. Couldn't communicate with servers, etc... anyway, never was able to try it out in the 2 days I used it. My biggest problem is this: when you buy a phone, what is it's main purpose? To act as a communication device. Now, if the software on the phone is too heavy for the processor to handle, this means it's going to slow you down. I was trying to text on the numeric keypad like I used to on the 5310 but unfortunately found that some of the keypresses did not register because the software was that slow. I guess what I'm looking for is a phone with semi-simple software that's still able to handle it's own load and *not slow me down*! This ruins the experience, as it means I have to work around my phone, instead of my phone working around my needs. It's too bad, since I really thought this phone would be the successor to the 5310 but shamefully enough, the 5730 did not do the trick. Oh, the full keyboard seemed like a great addition to only having a regular number pad too, but to be honest, I could type quicker on the number pad, using T9 or whatever. Don't get me wrong though, the camera was excellent, but again slow because of software. Does anyone have any suggestions as far as a phone I could try as an upgrade to my 5310? And I don't like touchscreens. I think they're all hype. (no, they are not that advantageous. Sometimes, you need the "feel" of a keypad and sometimes a touchscreen just does not do it, sure I mean if you're trying to watch movies and stuff, but again this is a communication device. Let's separate our devices to only handle the functions they're supposed to perform. i.e. wanna watch movies on the go?> get an iPod, wanna take good pics/video> get a digital camera) And don't say "oh well just get a smartphone!". Uh, no. The only smart thing around here is me for not having to carry around an extra clunky device everywhere I go (during workouts, I use my 5310 with a bluetooth headset and the phone is very small, so doesn't get in the way). But I guess "smart"phones are for people that don't work out or something. Maybe it's for "business-oriented" people who sit on their butt all day, lol... I'm on the move! I stay active! Last thing I want to have to worry about is a $400 4.4 AMOLED touchscreen in my pocket to keep it safe from breaking because it was facing out and I rested a dumbbell on my lap (or my girlfriend sat on me, whatever!). Anyways, this seems like the never-ending debate. I know people have different needs, but I wish manufacturers would also play a bigger part in listening to what consumers need.

This phone is the best so far that I ever owned. There are only a couple problems so far. For example in the video recorder mode, the light option does not function but it works great as a flash in the camera mode. The phone itself lags sometimes but I'm sure these two problems can be solved with a software update!

i bought mine in Tanzania and yes, there was n-gage preloaded in the device. I have removed it since as i was never to much into gaming. I played quite a few racing games like asphalt, nfs, autobahn etc etc.. But now i mainly use opera mini and snaptu on this device. But it sure was a joy to race on this handset.

Great 1 year experience. Keyboard is amazingly good. Camera takes average pictures in bad light, great in good light. Gaming buttons work only with N-gage (1 game comes free) but the N-gage application was made by idiots Good-looking phone, bound to get noticed especially when keyboard is popped out. Usb charging is very useful and comes with a whopping 8gb microSD. Home media feature is my favorite. Control your PC media player with your phone. I think red color is the best (and i still love it after one year) !

This is a very good phone, overall. I think those who are first timers when it comes to using this phone (and symbian) will get confused. Thus, it'll take time to get used to the User Interface and the way Symbian works. Another problem is the battery. I use my phone the whole day and in just 8-9 hours, the battery is nearly empty. Also the processor is a bit slower compared to its sibling, 5630. I notice some lagging occasionally. Though there are other minor issues, this phone is pretty equipped. If you're me like who looks for a phone that can do most tasks, this phone is what you're looking for. For me, this is THE phone. :)

Bottom line:- Even if a cellphone is made out of steel, it can still get broken if it got treated like a ping-pong ball.

Don't have N-Gage in your 5730:- Well, I have find out that the N-Gage Installer in this cellphone is not integrated in the cellphone software, which means, that if a Hard Reset [*#7370*] is made, then there is a big chance that the N-Gage Installer is going to be removed.

I bought this phone with 25000 BDT. But i think the phone has less quality than Nokia 5800 XpressMusic which costs 18000 BDT(Bangladeshi Taka). I used to thought that the phone will have more quality than 5800 and i bought it but i was wrong. I bought the phone to experience the fun of n-gage gaming and to make fun with music. But all the n-gage games are trial version and a licence code supplied to activate a game which is expired. The music is also poor. Because the loud speaker is poor and not sterio. The phone is also very slow because processor MHz very low 369 only. On the other case the 5800 has 434 MHz. So why the phone should price 25000 BDT. I claim that n-gage games should better quality. I think the phone is not so usefull to use java apps. It sometimes hang in the time of running apps. It also supports n-gage poorly. Its battery life is also poor.I bought this phone with 25000 bangladesi taka. And i think its poorer than it's value.

Normally when you install an application it get installed in {Applications >> Installations} folder, but sometimes when you install an application that requires internet connection, it get installed in the {Internet} folder. About Facebook:- My Friend, 5730xm is pre-installed with [Facebook, MySpace, Friendster, MSN Live and YouTube] applications, and you should find them all in the {Internet} folder.

It got no problem, as you have to put into consideration that it is just a cellphone, so you can't expect it to have a WiFi reception that is as powerful as laptop's. Note:- Personally, I have downloaded over 2GB of files in my 5730xm through a WiFi connection.

It is a great phone. But its sound quality is not so rich although its price is high. It is also very slow phone. but it can get a moderate speed if u install language "Python" . There is a problem that if u like to play n-gage than it is not enough because its battery life is very poor in n-gage mode. In the n-gage website nokia's support is also complex for this phone. But if u love GPS than it is great. Its backward body is also great because it is colored with glitters. but the keypad is fingerprint prone and battery cover is also very cheap and light. so it is not usable as a ruff handset,it is also not comfortable to click on the buttons for tiny size. Actually it is a luxurious set and should be used very safely. So i recommend u the phone Nokia C5 if u like performance but not looking for style.

It depends with your needs. But I think it's better to get the C6 than this model because it has a better battery with a larger screen and the free navigation. But if you don't like touch screens or don't use the navi you could go for the 5730.

Screen Problem, muffled voice calls, phone restarting, flimsy slide. The latest was they readjusted the slider and when I got the phone the middle key, volume rocker and letter Q from the qwerty keypad was not working. The weird thing about it was when I left the phone at the service center the three last problems were not there. I got really mad and decided just to pull out the phone because it eats up a lot of my time going back and forth to the service center.

my phone used to restart a lot as well but that was when the days were just too hot...i remember how it would fail to detect my sim card in those conditions..but the weather is more pleasant now and the phone hasn't restarted since...anyways, don't expose your phone too much to the sun.

This model has been discontinued and no longer produced by Nokia. However, it'ss hardly to find this model in our country, Malaysia. But comes to aftermarket spare parts, they are everywhere and very cheap because most of the aftermarket spare parts are CHINA made. Even you could find a high quality of exchangeable housing/cover for as low as USD 3 to 5. I already bought this phone yesterday but it was a used model. Never mind, as long as it does perfectly, who cares. Besides, after having the housing changed, it looks new as a new model.

I have this phone. its pretty sweet for the music aspect. the battery life is sorta hopeless but i listen to music for almost 15 hours daily. okay since i am a little careless in handling the phone i have dropped it a couple of times by accident, and the cover is broken. does anyone know if its possible to change its cover? i have the red black one, i d like to change to the blue black one. also i need to change the cover, because i live in the middle east and its quite humid over here and when you step out from indoors to outdoors the humidity immediately enters the phone, due to the broken cover and theres water in the phone, which i need to dry off.

Updating:- I didn't think that they will be able to update it, specially that it got the "Charging over USB" feature, and considering that it restarts during charging, then it is hopeless. Question:- Can you tell you me what firmware version it has, because it is probably not an official Nokia firmware. E71 or E75:- If it is the wlan that you care about, then you should go with the E71, as it is thiner, so it should has a better wlan connection.

Certificate Error:- You have to get the followings, 1) Key and Certificate 2) Signing Software And use them to Re-sign the application that you got a certificate error with. Note:- Kindly don't ask me how to get them, and just use a search engine to find that out.

Yes, it could be a firmware (software) problem, as that 5730xm batch might got a corrupted software, And you can update the 5730xm software on your own, by connecting it to your computer by USB Cable, and using a software called 'Nokia Software Updater' But before you start updating, your phone MUST be fully charged, and considering that the one you got restart during charging, then I don't advice you to update it on your own, So if the dealer can't get it fixed for you, then don't buy it from him, and see if you can get your money back.

Then it is possible that all the 5730xm phones from that dealer are damaged, so you should buy a different phone, Or if you can get your money back from the dealer, you can buy the 5730xm from another dealer, Note:- If the dealer you bought it from got a computer in the shop, ask him to update the firmware of the 5730xm and see if the restart problem get solved or ot.

Restart Problem during Charging:- Well, I got my 5730xm from over a year now, and it never restarted on me during charging, so the one you bought is probably damaged, and I advice you to return it to the dealer you bought it from.

Updating the software advantages:- Yes, it will solve the QWERTY-Pad problem. But No, it will not stop the memory lost, as it happen to all symbian phones, in which a lot of temporary files are created over the time, and even if you removed them, more are going to be created, so all what you can do about it, is to delete those files every now and then.

Thanks for the update on the use of reinstalling the firmware, How to clean your 5730 from useless files:- I found an application called "NetQin Mobile Guard" that has a [Clean Spam] feature, and it automatically trace and clean the followings 1) System cache 2) Image cache 3) internet cache 4) Installation logs And when I first used it, it cleaned over 10MB of useless files from the internal phone memory. Note:- "NetQin Mobile Guard" got [8] other useful features as well, so I highly recommend it.

i don't think anyone here will provide you a quick and easy guide to hack your phone on this forum...you will have to do some research yourself... and if the only problem you have is with certification error, then you should probably first try setting the date in your phone back by an year or two or maybe three (i.e. is to a time when the application had a valid certificate)... in any case, god helps those who help themselves..:)

varen if I were you id get the E71 its an amazing phone i have used the 5730 and its like a cheap plastic phone very low quality though it has one good in it which is n gage games. get the E71 if your not a gaming person, i mean come on who plays games on a phone whats the sony ps3 for? so yeah get the E71 you wont regret it trust me, at the same time its very rough tough phone I drop my phone every day yet it still works as good as new!

A while back there were a few posts on how the phone memory decresed even after installing the apps in the memory card and that this lost memory could not be recovered even after removing those apps...well, today i was talking to someone who told me that there is a lot of scatter (junk files accumulated here and there) in symbian. To remedy the lost memory he has recommended me to update the firmware and if already up to date then reinstall that firmware using software updater through pc suite installed on my system...if someone knows whether this will help or not, please respond...otherwise, i will be trying it in a few days and shall get back with the results...

What you did:- You see the procedure you did is called [on the air update] that not all phones have, and the 5730zm is supposed to have this feature, but sadly as you mentioned all you are going to get is [no updates available] which is not true. The best way to make the update:- 1) Install "Nokia PC Suite" on your PC. 2) Install "Nokia Software Updater" on your PC. 3) Back up phone memory on the 8GB SD Card. 4) Remove the 8GB SD Card from the phone. 5) Make sure that the phone is fully charged. 6) Connect the phone to computer via USB Cable. 7) Start "Nokia Software Updater". 8) Follow the steps.

this is the best mobile i have used..this mobile has got every thing i want....the QWERTY keypad is really great i use my mobile for surfing n chatting very much this keypad helps me alot..and screen is also big enough to play games..it also has n-gage gaming button which is plus point...i hve also signed some applications like..opera mini, nimbuzz, advance device lock, smart movie any more...these applications make my mobile complete....and battery level is also good...after using atlest 3 hrs a day for surfing and chatting and listening to music last for 3 days ... undoubtedly, the best phone ever created... (for non-touchscreen phone users) I've been using this mobile for 2months now.. and i'm still loving it... i mean the appearance of the phone never runs out of charm... it still looks like i've bought it yesterday.. no fades in the keypad nor the D-pad. The qwerty keys are comfortable to use (when you are used to it - maybe after a week or two). The web surfing is zippy.. image quality is quite decent compared to other phones.. Symbian OS is still, for me, the best and most mature OS for mobile phones.. tons of applications can be installed because of the bundled 8gig.. i also used the 8gb mem card to save bunch of full 3gp and wmv format movies... Ngage games' graphics is delightful to the eyes and you actually get to have a free activation code (to activate a Ngage game) included in the retail package.. in terms of music, well i'm really satisfied when im using my earphones.. (the music playback isn't that loud when you use the loudspeaker though)... Some minor/tolerable problems: - sometimes it restarts by itself especially when you use too many applications all at the same time (369mhz processor only) - it has poor battery life... (1 and a half day with normal use; less than a day with supreme heavy use) over all... im loving this phone... 9/10

Get the C-5 for the free navigation but if you don't use that get the 5730 for the keyboard :) or better yet if you could wait for the nokia C-6. it is a slide and touch phone with the new version of OVI maps.

I owned this phone for over 4 months, but was glad to depart with it after. I really wanted to like this phone, it seemed like the perfect phone to me: normal number pad, relatively big screen with amazing colour, a 3.2 MP with carl zeiss optics and a front facing cam, Wifi, gps, qwerty keyboard, 3.5mm jack, and dedicated gaming keys for the now defunct n-gage. On paper, it was the perfect phone for people who hate touchscreen phones and their finicky usability. I used every feature the phone offered with initial excitement. Unfortunately, all the faults of the phone quickly made it more and more frustrating to use, as follows: 1) Camera. To say it sucks would be a major understatement. Excited by the Carl Zeiss optics? Don't be. Whoever was in charge of the camera software really dropped the ball here. 3 major problems: a) the quality SUCKS, turning out photos even worse than the 2MP camera on my now dated W810i; b) taking a photo took forever, way too long to capture those moments when you usually are glad you have a camera phone; c) the camera button made taking a sharp photo near impossible - I have an experienced amateur photographer, and I've taken perfectly clear shots handheld at 1/2 sec...the button on the phone was sooo stiff and had so little depression room that any shot, combined with the slow focusing and exposure programming, that photos taken even outdoors in the bright sun had to be taken multiple times just to get a steady photo. Worst camera button design EVER. 2) Symbian. Every Nokia user knows about this problem. The symbian system is dated, slow/laggy, and needlessly complicated with never ending menus. 3) Processor. It just couldn't handle even simple multi-tasking very well, but that's partly to blame because of the lousy Symbian OS. But the weak processing power really became apparent during web surfing...I can't even count the number of times the web browser crashed on me whenever coming across a page requiring more than 700kb to load. Very frustrating web user experience. 4) Memory card interface. This phone had major problems reading the memory card. It was nice to see Nokia throw in the 8GB card for free, but it kept randomly disconnecting for no reason. It first started out just once every few weeks, but in the last 2 months of usage, they became more and more frequent to the point where I'd get a pop up telling me my memory card was removed (even though it was still physically in the phone) once every other day. Very annoying, I'd have to find something to pop out the card and reinsert in, sometimes in the most inappropriate setting to do so. I even tried factory reseting the phone, and it would not solve the problem. 5) Wifi. It was a very useful feature, especially for regions where I didn't have a HSDPA connection set up as part of my plan, but it dropped connections much too often...just adding more frustration to the online experience with this phone. 6) The quality of the keys. Specifically the front keys (not the QWERTY keys). There was noticeable degradation over use in the interface between the keys and actions on the phone. And I'm not a hard key presser. After only 2 months of use, the D-Pad had major readability issues, most notable during n-gage and java apps. The numberpad keys also had noticeable readability issues, in java apps and using it for typing (for short messages, and for when I was in a situation where I couldn't flip out the QWERTY keyboard). And lots not forget to mention the small size and the shape of the 2 bottom corner buttons made using them more difficult that they should have (my fingers would often slip off them, and I have small hands). 7) Battery life. For a non-touchscreen phone, I was certainly expecting much better battery life than I got out of it. Average use of 4-5 hours of "talk" time (light surfing, most just updating emails, and about an hour of listening to music) on a single charge...very disappointing. Basically had to charge every day, often having to charge twice a day, usually halfway during the day, just so I wouldn't run out of battery before the end of the day. 8) Nokia Ovi. Okay, I understand what Nokia is trying to do with the whole Ovi thing, but it only works when they have enough market penetration, and they don't in the major markets. Nokia puts way too much reliance on the Ovi set-up, alienating non-Nokia users who are thinking about using Nokia, and alienating current Nokia users from their friends who don't use Nokia (and most of my friends didn't, and I'm talking about people in Canada, US, Hong Kong, Germany, Holland, and even New Zealand.) Nokia should wake up and realize Ovi will never evolve into what they hope it will be. There you go, those were my biggest issues with the 5730. Honestly, if Nokia had just spent that one little extra bit of effort into this phone, it could've easily been one of their flagship phones. The combination of advanced smartphone, gaming, music, and the simplicity of a non-smartphone. On paper, it looked promising. Features like secondary camera, GPS, free Ovi maps, XpressMusic interface, sturdy keyboard (if your's isn't, get Nokia to fix it, it's very sturdy when working properly), and wifi were awesome, but the usability issues just made everyday use way too annoying. It's set at a very fair price point. But if Nokia had invested just a little more, I wouldn't have minded paying an extra $50-100 USD to fix all the problems I listed above, plus adding the 850 3G band (if you're going to add 3 of the main 4, then why not 850 too?). It could've been the perfect phone! Sigh...ah well..

It's normal ,if you capture image in lanscape mode, open the gallery and you will see the image is blurred in potrait but looks clear in landscape(full screen)and vice versa...it is becoz the picture size..btw in gallery try use volume key to zoom

I'm experiencing a problem with QWERTY keyboard. When i press and hold "s" it displays ( symbol instead of showing £ symbol, "d" displays ) instead of $, "g" displays - instead of &, "h" displays + instead of -, "j" displays # instead of +, "k" displays * instead of #, "l" displays Å instead of * and also the comma, dot, question mark sign shows different character than it suppose to display. 5730 isn't plastic... just the battery cover is... it feels heavy in hand and it's solid. i have one... but if u want wifi gps and full qwerty keyboard go for e72. it's a great phone, little bit slow than e71 but more specs...

hello, im really interested in this phone but absolutely hate the plastic build of it. i wanted to get a phone with both WIFI and GPS and NOT a touch screen. but all of the XM models with wifi AND GPS is touch screen. so i researched on several other phones (e72, e71, e66). but all these models are business oriented, and im concerned about the ease of listening to mp3 like in XM phones (shorcut keys). is it any BIG difference? is it better that i buy the E series compared to this phone? if so, which is the best? ps: i heard that e72 is pretty slow compared to e71.

I truely appreciate your reply, and to be honest with you the 5730 is my first symbain phone, as I was a java user, Any way, I guess that how symbian phones work is similar to computers, as in computers when I go to the task manager, I see a lot of processes running that I don't know what are they supposed to do, and same thing go for symbian phones, Well, now that they have what I think called 'Maemo', so I think that they should work on making 'Symbian' simple, so that normal users (like me) can have full knowledge on the cellphones they have, nevertheless, complex applications needs advanced system to work, so I doubt that there is a way to make symbian simple, But I will still hope for the day in which we will be able to use Symbian phones as easy as using Java phones, as in Java phones we don't have to worry about the RAM or apps Certificates, we don't even have to install the games and application, all what we have to do, is transfer them to Java phone, open them and enjoy

that phone memmory loss happens at all symbian phones... i had 6630 - 5800 and it happend both of them. its normal cuz thats the memmory type of the all unoptional programs... it might be cause by nokia browser - radio channels - software files and many things like them. if you want, take your phone to service and get full reset but thrust me it will happen again... sorry about my bad english btw.

By the way, I have also noticed what you mentioned in my 5730 as well, and when I first noticed it, I thought maybe if I start uninstalling the apps and games that I installed in the 8GB then the phone memory will increase, but it didn't happen, as even after I removed over 50% of the installed applications, the phone memory remains down, So my friends, if any of you know if there are any files that we can delete to restore the phone memory to its original condition, then kindly let us know, thanks in advance.

mine was 40 mb in phone memory, haven't installed anything on it dropped to 30... i had to format it for some reason, got back to 60 mb.. weird... i installed n-gage on the memory card but the next thing is that phone memory dropped to 28 mb... and when ever i use the internet for a while on it or use ovi maps, it will drop for 24 and it will go up after i close some programs... :/

the phone mem in my case hasn't dropped to as low as 5 mb but i have noticed that whenever i install something in the memory card some of the phone memory is also used up. Like if i install a 500 kb in the memory card, a few kB of phone memory also decreases. Have beeen meaning to ask someone here but the situation was not as worse as yours.

My Friends:- For those who bought the 5730, have any of you noticed that the internal memory keeps decreasing?! As in my 5730, when I bought it, it got almost 100MB internal memory, but with time it got down to 40MB, and it kept dcreasing until it reached 20MB, even though that I never put any thing in it, any way when it reached 20MB, I made a format for my phone, and it got back only to 40MB (O_o), and now it is down to 5MB only, I have used the applications [MobyExplorer + LFile] and checked both [C: and D:] to see if there are any system files using the internal memory space, but I didn't see any files with the used memory size, So does any one else have that in his/her 5730xm?

im using this phone for 6 month and the battery life only gets worse, very very poor battey..but a great feature packed phone, but now that n85's price is same as this phone, i wud recommend that to anyone whoz willin to buy this phone, go for n85 betta cam, biggr screen (amoled), navi wheel, fm transmittr, the only lackin is the qwerty keyboard..but now im regrettin for nt buyn n85 instead of this phone, qwerty aint much imp..trust me

the performance is quite good, i would say its worth the price. yet you can probably get a better phone for little more money, its really a good phone choice though, but i find it weird for it having an alternate keyboar slide, seeing the size of its screen, anyway if ur lookin to buy this phone, i would say its worth it

the camera is low for indoor even though it use carl zeiss optic. 5800 have better quality at camera because have 2 flash.and there is no update for ovi maps at this phone.in the message option there is no detail for date and time when the message send or receive.so it's a bit confusing to find previous message.

dont worry about the slide....i had my set completely dismantled in front of me and at the point the slide had to be removed the technician got stuck...he couldnt find the screw to be removed for quite some time during which he tried to force it open...didnt come out that way then and hasnt come out since...

Btw, donazzz, yeah, its sound quality is very very good. The loudspeaker might not be the loudest, but it's good enough for me. But once you plug in its earphone or any audiophile headphones, it'll surely blow ya mind! haha

About its music playing performance, i'd simply say it lives up to it's name XpressMusic. The sound quality from my earphones when I listen to songs from this phone is as good as the quality that would come out of my laptop. That means its great!

Consider that the newer Symbian S60 version AND the touchscreen of the 5800 may need more processing speed, so it´s not really faster. A big plus of the 5730 is the diagonally display for internet, videos and esp. for n-gage games. Best phone for playing (since the n-gage phone) with the extra gaming buttons! As for music the 5730 has one, the 5800 two speakers (stereo) at the back. I simply love the 5730, touchscreens will be used soon enough.

This is an awsum phone, really cheap, has a excelent OS, GPS is really sensitive, even the speeds of around 1kmph is detected, accelerometer, not as much as sensitive as 5800, but make sure u protect the screen, coz it cracks easily(make sure sharp pins of the charger doesnt hit the screen, ok i cracked mines screen), this phone is not the fastest of the phones out there, but this has the general nokia speed, qwerty is really good, sme videos strugle at 640x480 resolution, sme codecs are not supported in more than 320x240 resolution, audio quality is not the best and its mono(unless you use the headset), camera is good, but its flash is hopeless, status light is a handy feature. Overall Perfomance - Good Phone, and really worth if you are in2 gaming, music(using headset) and social networking.... Final conclusion - Really worth 4 its price

Quite a good phone, I have to say. The 5730 actually seems a bit faster than the 5800, though the specs don't agree with that! :) Just wish the keyboard had curved keys so that it would be a tad easier to type.

i shall tell you what has been my experience with this phone...first the bad...maybe it was the intense heat or my repeated attempts to catch a weak wi-fi or gsm or 3g signal or too many applications running simultaneosly(which invariably included a browser and music), but it used to fail sim detection a lot...well, now the weather is more pleasant these days and i no more over exert it for connecting it to weak wi-fi and have not encountered the dreaded issues of sim detection failure and the subsequent 'phone will now restart' message...although it didn't restart after that...i had to remove the battery and memory card and give it a good rest of 5 mins... And if you want to know if the phone can handle a few falls then although i advise you to take good care of your device I think this phone can survive atleast 1 or 2 occasions of lack in attention from your end..i have dropped it twice and no matter how ugly it looked on taking those falls it always worked after assembling it back...i even had it completely disassembled by a street side technician when the tip of my head phone jack broke inside and had to be pushed after probing form the inside...anyways it has borne all that and still functions pretty well

THey arent even in the same league. £200 non-touch keyboard phone vs. £650 full touch music/apps phone...they are most wildly different pairing you can get, and therefore don't serve even the remotest comparison. The closest phone to an iphone is probably the new HTC Desire or the Sony Ericsson X10.

My friend, just because 5730 does not fullfill your needs, it doesn't make it a faulty cellphone, Why did Nokia made N73 XM after the regular N73 Why did Nokia made N95 8GB after the regular N95 But just because Nokia has made an enhanced versions, it does not mean that the regular ones are faulty. Back to the 5730, it is true that it got an 8GB SD, but it got a slow processor, so as a massive messages user, this mobile is not good for you, as you need one with a faster processor that can process a massive amount of messages, You don't need an 8GB memory card, as messages don't take a lot of space, so don't look at how big its memory, look at how fast is its processor.

I purchased this Phone. 1. There is a malfunction in the memory card slot. There is a constant error and the phone locks up. 2. The slide is not very strong. 3. The music controls on the side of the phone rattle. 4. The phone is dropping calls. 5. After using other qwerty keyboards, this seems a bit flat and has less than an appealing tactile feel. 6. Although the Music Player sounds good, the PC-ish file manager is outdated. 6. The OS, as compared to iPhone, Samsung, or LG, is (in general) archaic. User friendly it is not. If you are used to a previous Nokia OS it may not be a problem for some. I will return it.

19 hrs is very good i get 9 hours on htc touch pro and 8.5 hrs on n95..Did you know on nokia site 5730 contains a 3d engine to facilitate photos and render them quicker.. In smart fone essentials mag in uk which is respectable with some people having 17 years in symbian give this 9/10 saying its full of tech for the gadget enthusiast and is the best keypad yet on a smartfone,,its now the same level as htc touch pros keypad..Some new smartfone ie htc g1 and nexus 1 are having to be charged twice a day..

5730 Vs. w995:- hmm, they both got 240x320 screens, and they both got an 8GB cards. 5730 Advantage:- It got a QWERTY Pad. W995 Advantage:- It got an 8MP Camera. So see what is more important to you, is it taking pictures or typing messages.

5730xm Strength:- Thanks for reminding me, as one time my 5730 got dropped from my hand on a staircase, and it kept flipping on three steps, and amazingly it didn't even got a scratch, which is really awesome, as it is a heavy phone, and it got a slide, yet nothing happened to it, Which show that the metalic exterior is not only for show (--,), so good job Nokia, but I still hate the colored plastic surrounding, as it give 5730 a childish design. So I really hope that there will be a 5830xm, with a more professional design, and a faster processor, the camera is good, but you could put a better one, because some phones got a 12MP cameras, but you people still use 3.2MP, the way I see it, all new phones should have at least a 5MP cameras.

About QWERTY Pad:- I don't know from where you people get your 5730's from, as I got the one that is made in chine 'by Nokia', and I have no problems with the QWERTY pad, so it is clear that those who have QWERTY pad problems, that they don't have the original 5730. About GPS:- Earlier, some people said that it got no Radio, and now there are people saying that it got no GPS, what next, some one will say that got no Camera (O_o), so people get your info. corrected, as 5730 does have GPS. About 5730:- My friends this place is for talking about the original Nokia 5730xm, so kindly don't provide false info. about by talking about problems that you have in a cheap copy of 5730.

yaa. it's true that the keyboard is like,..errr..i dunno how to explain. when i went back to the shop, she (the seller) showed me other nokia5730 that has same problem. she said that it is normal. i dunno. my suggestion to u guys who want to buy this phone, u better check and get used with the keyboard before you purchase. some people find it is hard to press etc. but for me it is find. it just that the symbol placing. i bought the AP set. not the zitron. maybe this is why i am facing the problem.

Hi there's not much different to compare with 5800 which is this phone is not a touchscreen mobile. the loudspeaker sucks compare to sony ericsson but with headset the quality is awesome. it have realplayer and i've installed smartmovie player where you can watch music videos or clips...the only problem is, you cannot switch to other video while watching the current video...you have to stop the current video and switch to which you prefer to watch. and the alarm clock...owh luckily my biological clock works well :p for some people who faced their phone to freeze...remember your phone is not a computer. Why would you save up until 500 over SMS!!!

I purchased Nokia 5730 4rm the nokia website just over a month ago. Firstly Ive always prefered Nokia phones however I DO NOT RECOMMEND this phone to anyone the majour problem that I have had is the messages it starts with it failing to open a msg i recive then after a day or two the phone would jam and restart deleting all my messages (this usually starts occuring after i have over 500 msgs). I am left with no sent items outbox drafts and saved msgs. There is no sign of a single msg. After this occured the first time i called nokia who replaced the phone with a brand new beliving it was just the one handset that was faulty i continued using the phone, a few weeks later it happend again i lost over 900 very important msgs and my phone started freezing and restarting. I am very disapointed as i liked every feature of the phone sutomer services have been useless at one point i was put on hold for 40min and when he returned i was asked to repeat myself and when i expressed my frustrationhe just laughed. The manager hung up on me i have been tol i would recive a call 4rm the money returns department its been a weeek still no call. I as woundering if anyone else has had this problem and if anyone can kindly provide me with an address to which i can complain and have my matter resolved as i would lik my money back. Thank you

Correction: The sim card registration fail message appears whenever i try to access a slow or weak wi-fi network again ans again. It invariably fails sim detection in such a case. Since the battery seems a bit wobbly inside its chamber i had assumed the problem was rough handling but thinking back i must say it only happens when there is a network problem or i am trying hard to access a weak wi-fi n/w.

I am a relatively new user and don't have any problems with the phone..but there are a few things that go against it: 1.Poor design of number keypad(especially the selection keys just below the screen which are very hard to press.) 2.Average camera(neither too good nor too bad) 3.It sometimes fails to detect my sim card after a bit of shaking. But this could be a problem unique to my handset. I need to take out the battery and restart it whenever this happens. FYI: my handset(coulour:monochrome and keypad has both arabic and english) is made in china and it's battery has been made in korea and further processed in china. The battery life is not too good, i might add. Other than the above listed shortcomings it is really a great handset which has almost everything. the dedicated music keys are handy, the accelerometer performs well and reading stuff on web pages is quite easy as well.

Obviously the wisest thing to do is to use the internal memory sparingly. Correct me if I'm wrong but an 8GB card is equivalent to 80 times a 100MB internal memory. If 100Mb can store about 20 mp3, 80GB can store 1600!

If you are asking about N97, then its expensive price show how good it is, so if you have the money and love touchscreen and QWERTY-Pad, then go for N97. Of course, there is the new N900, but if you are not an expert in mobiles, then I don't advice you to buy it.

My friend, the wlan preshared key is case sensitive, so are you sure that you entered it exactly the way it is? Note:- I said it before, and I'll say it again, that this got nothing to do with your 5730xm.

There is no Nintendo 64 emulator of mobiles, there is an emulator for GameBoy games and it's called SNES emulator, but I don't like it. For xvid files:- You can try (CorePlayer) or (SmartMovie), and maybe (Divx)

My 5730 old firmware was 101.48.128, and when I searched for 100.48.122 it turned out that it's a china firmware (*_*) Any way, you can search the net for it, but downgrading your mobile firmware, might damage your phone.

i hv tried that too, but after i reinsert the sd card, it become hang,hahaha.. and now i hv upgraded it to the latest version,it become faster change the display if i slide it, the startup doesnt hv to wait too long, just about 1 minute or less, and decrease many lag,cant wait more the better firmware, hehe :D

5730 Sound in General:- It's has a good sound, but there are better. 5730 Vs. 5320:- Sorry I can't answer that, because I haven't even seen a 5320 in reality. 5730 Materials:- Its heavy weight show that it's NOT made from cheap materials. 5730 Slide:- There are no problems with the slide, as it is smooth.

Actually, the slow start-up got nothing to do with the firmware, as I have the same problem since I bought it, it takes from 15 to 30 minutes to start-up. Any way, now before I start-up my 5730 I do something to make the start-up faster, I remove the SD card, and after it fully operate "5 minutes top", I put the SD card back, and then it might take another 5 minutes to process the card. But 5 to 10 minutes, is much better than 30 minutes, so try it out, and you'll be surprised with the result :)

About Batteries:- Basically if they are made from the same materials, then it does not matter where it is been made, as batteries does not consist of parts that need to be assembeled, but if the materials quality differ from a country to another, then the quality of the battries will differ as well. Note:- The cellphone energy consumption will still be the same even if you change the battery, but if the problem is from the battery, then it could effect the cellphone performance, so if you have various batteries, then why don't you make a test and let us know about the result.

N-Gage Games:- you see, you can't use the QWERTY Pad in the N-Gage games, now maybe you wonder, then where are the gaming keys, well, when you started the N-Gage did you noticed 2 blue lights under the secondary camera, if take a deep look on them, you will see that one of them is square and the other is a circle, and these are the gaming keys, which work only with N- Gage games.

sorry I forgot to answer your system question, any way, 5730 System Lag:- That is not a rumour, it's a sad reality, as it's slow processor can't handle all it's features, but I did noticed that when I remove the 8GB sd card, it become faster, so changing it with a smaller sd card might solve the system lag problem. I have not tried it my self, as the 8GB card is one of the reasons of why I bought this phone.

Best Firmware:- The latest firmware is always the best if you instal right. 5730 Slide:- The slide of this phone is great, those slide mobiles that get slide problems are those that the NumPAd is a slide like [N95, ... Etc]

To to be honest with you, the battery of 5730 is a failure, people would assume that an xpressmusic mobile will have a better battery, but sadly I don't think that the nokia people feel the same. But it's all business, there will never be a cellphone that got it all.

5730xm Speaker location:- A lot of people had asked where is the phone speakers, well I am going to tell exactly where it is, if you open up the back cover take a good look on top of the sim card holder, do you see a small square with a fade speaker grill, that is the speaker. If you don't want to take my word on it, then while playing and music or song turn you mobile around, open the back cover, and put your finger on the square that I mentioned.

hmm, I really don't think that what you are talking about is the speaker If you want to be sure, then while playing a music on your 5730 open the back cover "make sure to hold the batteyrso that it doesn't fall" and you will see that the sound come out from the top only.

the best way]to update your nokia is by using (nokia software updater), and you download it from nokia website, and the instal it to your computer, and and connect your mobile to the computer via usb cable but before you start the update, you should back up your phone memory into the external sd card, and if you have a password on your sd card you should remove it, or your sd card will not open after the update.

i use this firmware and its very good than the old one and i never format my phone and my phone never restart he used to restat with the old version of the firmware but with this update it solved some of the problems and im waiting for the next firmware i love this firmware and my phone ........

5730xm New Firmware:- I have just updated my firmware to [200.12.87] using Nokia Software Updater, but I think that this firmware got problems, as I had to restart my 5730 twice in a row since the update, I don't know if this happens to me only or not, so if you don't want to take the risk, then I advice you to wait for the next firmware before you update.

Are you serious (only 4GB SD card), My brother check Nokia official site, and you'll see that the 5730xm comes with an 8GB SD card, Nevertheless, maybe this is one of the things that vary from country to another.

Ok I will have it step by step to you. 1. make sure you have an internet connection either wife or HSPDA 2. go to MENU 3. go to Application 4. go to N-Gage 5. press right once. and there you should see game title(if prompted to connected to the enter choose an access point) 6. install the game you wish to play. 7. finally after installing go back to home and enter the activation code written inside the green envelope.

You open the N-Gage application, then download whatever game you want, then use the code written on the N-Gage card that you got from the 5730 box (as omar said), to make the game full. Note:- It's the N-Gage application that is pre-installed not the game, as you get to choose which game you want using the N-Gage application.

the free game is preinstalled in your phone. just choose the game you want and find that green envelope. inside you will find an N-gage card. at back of it you can find the activation code. scratch it and type it on your chosen n-gage game

Nokia 5730:- If you used a "4GB" it might work as well, but I don't know for sure, as I have only tried it with and without the "8GB". Nokia 5800 & 5530:- They are both touch screen, so I don't know any thing about them, as I don't like touch screen either.

You should go for 5530 due to following reasons.. 1) It's sexy looking (than 5800) 2) Processor is faster (than 5730) 3) Phone is thin and smaller (than both 5800 & 5730) 4) Touch screen and kinetic scrolling is awesome 5) Stainless steel frame 6) Music is great (than 5730) Go and just have a look on all 3 mobiles... You'll definitely go for 5530 even without considering it's features... It's that sexy...!

About its Processor:- I noticed that if I removed the (8GB) external memory and put (1GB) or (2GB) instead, then the slow processors problem disappear. The Strange Thing:- Even when the (8GB) is almost empty, 5730xm still become slow, believe or not, when I first bought it and tuned it on, it took 10 minutes to fully function As a Conclusion:- This mobile is not built to be able to handle an (8GB) external memory

hmm, you have an 8GB external memory, and you the Back-Up feature, so you could've easily Back-Up your phone memory before you do the format. Any way, you can get the YouTube application for free from the Ovi Store, but I am not sure about the others.
