Nokia 6230 - User Reviews

  • Yes, there is, and Bluetooth as well

  • Hi, I have a 6230 for several years and I am very happy. Now I bought a Tom Tom Go Basic browser and I would like to store my Nokia phone, but I can't. At my 6230 maybe he misses a program. I know it has bluetooth but they don't connect.

  • The Nokia 6230 has an infrared port, albeit with very limited use.

  • There is no infra-red port on these phones surely...?

  • Oh, and a front facing camera for videoconferencing

  • Now all we need is a bigger screen and UMTS and there we have it! The absolute perfect phone of 2003!

  • LOL I'm just using one these days. Really unthinkable for these days.. I'm in 4th day of using with one battery charge.

  • I can't help with wallpapers but you can download original ringtones from there:http://onj3.andrelouis.com/phonetones/unzipped/Nokia/6230/

  • Why bother replying to a comment which praises something unimagineable nowadays? It's from 14 years ago...

  • They are right. You can stop now.

  • My 6230 works fine with new battery but some ringtones and wallpapers are corrupted, can anyone help?

  • try new battery

  • So far have avoided upgrading and still using mine daily, Try a new battery. Available off Amazon.

  • I remember when this phone was £100 second hand

  • I have a nokia 6230 I can't get it to charge it was working fine but it has been in a cupboard for a couple of years can anyone help me

  • This was my first high end phone. At the time it beat the Symbian smartphones which were just too slow to keep up with this speedy phone. Nokia 6230...as said by Nokia's own words...Precision. Enjoy it.

  • Mine also ,lovit

  • Mine is also working with the originalbattery ,I love it !

  • I've just bought it today, 17:september 2015...

  • A fantastic phone, I have owned mine since new in 2003 it still works with no problems, I would not change it, I know a chap who is a multi-millionaire and he still has his! It's small Compact and does all I want it to do, I don't want to carry a TV screen around with me that cannot get a signal when I can. I have never seen a phone I would consider swapping for. I have had iPhones Blackberry's and Android's as work mobile's, no I'll keep to the Nokia 6230.

  • Love this game changing phone. Once it was released there was no feature phone with better specs than this. Mine still works great.

  • I still use 6230 as secondary phone. It is working fine. I like it. Very good phone.

  • The best phone I ever possessed is the original 6230, very good speech quality, very good handling, nice design, best ergonomic shape for my hands, extremely durable, very long stand-by time, good FM reception via headset. I didn't use the internet and e-mail functions, so no comments on them. Bluetooth works fine to transfer files and talk via headset, but you can't dial via bluetooth in a car with built-in hands-free equpment. The ringtone speaker gave up, this year. That's why I've gotten the sucessor which is the 6230i with a bit more kitsch on the GUI but less stand-by time. I'll have to copy the ringtones from the old one, because the i-version doesn't ring nicely. Aside from that, the i-version is very similar.

  • you have to turn of auto correct or something, maybe pressing the # sign or else, most phones have auto correct or auto fill that can be turned off, search for it

  • 10 years, and still the most reliable phone I ever had

  • Every time I write a text the phone won't let me use my own letters, it writes other words instead. How do I turn this off?

  • me too.one of the best ph ever made

  • I still use this phone :-) :-) :-)

  • my first cellphone ever

  • i forget my security code.. :( how to unlock my phone... please help me....

  • This was my first top of the line cell phone. I will always remember it.

  • my first camera phone. i purchased it second hand for 2200 inr in june 2008. i still miss it

  • 100% fully agree with you I used to love all these button phones,,now just boring touchscreen..

  • Why I don't have the same "feeling" with new phones as I had with these old ...? Nice times...I guess not only phones changed by now,but the world as well.-Nostalgia-

  • Still working after all the abuse it has taken over the years. They sure don't build them like this any more. Without a doubt the most reliable and favourite phone I have ever owned.

  • i have this cellphone since 2005 and it is working, original battery

  • me2 until now!

  • This was my first Nokia phone, I bought it in 2005. It was the beginning of an era where I would look no further than Nokia. The 6230 was such a delightful experience I got 5 more Nokia devices in a row for the next 6 years. Those were good times... PS: There's actually a 6230i which was just retired at my workplace... It still works! Lets see if I can get it for free

  • I love this phone but the problem is the battery,It's very hard to get one, I'm living somewhere in Las Pinas

  • I'm still using my nokia 6230 to date since 2003. This is the best mobile phone I ever had (very user friendly and very easy to create text messages). Just like what emman d said, hoping that nokia will release a new phone with the same physical body but with updated features i.e, wifi and near field technology (NFC).

  • Mine was given to me by my brother-in-law and enjoyed it for almost 5 years. the best phone i've ever had. i wish nokia would re-issue or release one with the modern day features.

  • really nice

  • What a great piece of little phone! For sure the one that I used the longest time. I bought soon after release, it was like jumping ten years into the future. I remember, many years later, a friend in my office showing off its new iPhone -I can surf the web, read emails, lookup maps, take photos and watch movies! -Yeah, I do it all everyday on my 5 years old Nokia... When I proved to the unbeliving office I was tellign the truth, his jaw literally dropped to ground!

  • Very good m0bile. I bought it only as a recondition one at php900.00 only. I've been using it f0r 9 m0nths and i'd really really luv it. I've been doing internet all time and download games and other stuFF! Thankz N0Kia!

  • I love the model nokia 6230 but at the moment it has been collapsed all the files. When i check memory status it gives (used memory 0,free memory 0).And also when i switch it on,it displays a question mark.I dont know what to do,please help me.

  • very good mobile.

  • just try to perform a power cycle, remove the battery without switching off the handset and press the power button for 10 seconds. If it still doesnt work, then try to insert a headphone and remove it again. On that way the headphone icon at the top of the screen will disappear. Hope u can sort that out!

  • Hi. I got the problem with this model. My mobile screen shows that i have inserted my headphones with microphone. But truly i have lost my cellphones long time ago. But the problem is that mobile works like it would be connected with headphones(i cant talk with others, cant listen to music, my alarm dont work too). Could someone tell me how to switch off headphones? -you lost your cellphone or your headphone?o_O?? anyway i encounter that problem too but i solved it... all you need to do is to connect it again to another headphone then unplug it again you see the headphone sign on your mobile will be no more..goodluck ^^

  • This phone is amazing, I bougth one at 2005 and still being my 24/7 Cellphone, it works almost perfectly (Some fails, but is my fault, xD) I'd been thinking or buy the Nokia N8. but not for replace, I'm actually using Two sim-cards and need another. This phone does not have any replace. (Maybe 6230i D:) Congrats everyone with this phone. :D!

  • luis i wana buy your old e63.

  • This was my first Nokia 6 years ago and since I got this phone I didn´t need to look back and find another brand. As of today I´m on my 5th consecutive Nokia phone, an E5 I just got last week to replace my previous E63 and like all my other previous Nokia phones it has been great. I also had a 5700XM and before that a 6682 (my first Symbian phone) but no one can replace my previous 6230. Even if it has been the only S40 Nokia I´ve ever owned and lacked some features of today phones this one was a joy to use: very responsive and quick, intuitive, simple but elegant and rock solid. It had so many features at its time, I remember I put a 512mb MMC in it and with some good headphones it was really a good small jukebox, its display also readable even in sunlight and all those handy features came into an unpretentious package; I was a teenager when I got this phone and most of the people at my age where in the trend with Walkmans, Xpressmusics and superslim Samsungs and Motorola Razors. But it was priceless when they looked at all those features my 6230 had in that conservative package, it put a lot of newer phones to shame. I really miss that phone. It´d be great as a backup phone

  • this phone it amazing

  • One more thing...This is the best and only ohone I have ever had in my life

  • Does this model support 500-2gb MMC ?

  • beautiful phone. Have been using it for 6 years now. I keep it running just out of respect! amazing sound quality, and did marvels with a 64MB memory card. :D Nokia at its finest!

  • Mine is six years old adn still serving me well. Does more than you really need from a phone.

  • ill use my good old 6230 again instead of buying a 1280, c1-00, c1-01, cl-02 or soon to be released x1-00...they've almost got the same specs and features...and no voice leakage right!

  • A champion of its time.

  • you are sure right, I am fron Trinidad and I have had this phone for soon to be 5 years now, and its still like brand new! Never once had any problem with its applications! it took alot of beatings, falls and tumbles and still worked well. only the outer shell got so old and damaged that i replaced it, and got an original nokia case for it so now it looks like brand new! its really the most reliabe and durable phone i have ever owned. anthough now i have a N8 I still use the 6230! its the bomb of a backup fone!

  • in the caribbean and in trinidad and tobago this phone is a classic it tough and battery has stood the test of time its a back up phone to many persons who have i phone 4 and samsung galaxy s and htc desire etc it is a sure call 'great volume and internal parts resistant to many falls!! nokia needs to take lessons from this phone in building better andriods for the future!!trust me in trinidad its still in use and highly respected by all!!!

  • Just go to connection settings and click on empty then go back and select edit connection settings u'll be able to edit it.

  • the fone is good. it has fallen so many time but not broken... it is only technology that makes feel like changing. But to frank with u it is the best value i av gotten with a little price.good product!

  • This phone isn't good, the screen is too small that it display just a part of a web page and it is not possible to edit it's active internet settings.

  • omg i was stupid for trading this fon for the brand new 3230 back when i was 15 in 2005..then for the next 4 weeks i cried at night for losing it.. :-( hehehe..it was good fon, i even recorded a video of a journey uphill by cable car at genting..then i lost it..although i am now having n97 im still remember my previous fons..after that incident i never trade my fones anymore no matter how much i have to pay for it!

  • how can i download/transfer a game file from a laptop to my 6230?? how can i operate it??

  • because the board(mother board) of the phone and their speaker are lightly having connection with each other upon purchase,so when u press them tightly,it wud produce louder sound.do it at ur own risk, some phones might lose their signals when pressed tight..so if you are not a mbile phone technician or something like that i wud recommend you not to do it at all.. :)

  • I bought this phone on summer 2004 and I still use it every day with no problems at all. Change battery and cover two times, still looks like new!!

  • Themes

  • i want to know why we get sound well when we press it tightly ?

  • simply bulletproof not is that you can shoot it.. but this phone was amazingly tough ... dropping it while going 40~50km/h no problem !!!

  • first ask for configration for GPRS from ur service provider and then download and install mini opera browser which works great for this phone and then enjoy great hifi speed net.

  • visit www.getjar.com then select phone model and from there you can download what ever software you want for this phone. feel free.

  • you sure you can play .3gp video files in this phone easy just convert ur videos with any converter software and copy it in phone and enjoy.

  • i have been using this since 4 years till now i didn't face any trouble. this phone is one of the perfect phone in his time and till now im enjoying using this phone i play music through earphone but not the original one from nokia i buy the Chinese earphone coz it can extend to 3.5 mm audio jack so you can connect any headphone/earphone you want. i buy A4tech metallic earphone which gives perfect sound with isolation with normal bass but very very gud sound. internal speaker is also gud for listening with duds in gathering.other function are satisfactory for daily needs.for sms its keypad is unbeatable and for java made applications this phone works great i have installed mig33 beta so i can get connect to yahoo/msn/mig33 etc at a time any time.my friends always recommends me to buy new phones ex. express-music but i don't need when i can get everything from this phone so should i spend my money. for any question feel free [email protected]

  • I've used this phone 4 de past 6 years and though I really want to change it due to technology advance, its one of de best phones nokia had made. Only God knows de number of times it has fallen on hard floor and yet still works. However de blutut and infrared are all off except for de GPRS which works perfectly. Internet download is good and installs compatible application perfectly. My problems are its low memory, power consumption and its small lcd. Its a really good phone but i still want 2 change it to a more advance type. Probably de sony ericsson k850i

  • This phone is so hardcore. Had it for 5 years and its still working! i love it!

  • this phone is great. i type *#0000# and found out that my phone was firstly opened on 2003. And still at all. But im happy with my 6120.

  • I`ve had my 6230 going on 4yrs and it`s the best investment on a phone i`ve ever made.It fell so many times on land and in water and it just keeps on working.Once in a while it might just turn off when i`m viewing pics. from my memory card but other than that like an old friend it has always been faithful.I love my nokia.

  • I've also had this phone for 5 years, had no problems, only the bluetooth crashed sometimes.. But it still works fine!!

  • great phone very strong and cool

  • This is a good phone and it makes me smile to see that in 2005 i had made a good choice. This phone has fallen countless times and it has fallen in water. Never have i repaired it. • How does you have upgraded the firm-ware version of 6230 to v.5.50. My phone is the 6230, too. Could you help me?

  • Nokia 6230 is the only best phone from Nokia. I am using it for 6 years by now. No problem at all. I ungraded the firm =ware version to v.5.50. It solves all the problems like Music player doesn't find the files from sub folder etc.,. It will search the music files from anywhere in the phone or in the memory card. You can create sub folders upto 5. Even then it detects the file and added to music player play list. The another important factor is you can put 2gb memory card and this will work without any problem. I am using a 2gb card for about 2 years after upgrading to 5.50 version. I am trying to find a 4gb Reduced size memory card to check with this phone. To listen to the music and FM radio dont use the earphones provided by Nokia. You get separate Audio-adapter like AD49 or AD45 and you can put any earphone you like. Sony or Pnansonic or Ipod earphones. My suggestion is Sony MDR E808 earphone. You can feel the difference.

  • I currently have this phn, aside from keypad issues its a gre8t phn. For a phone released a long time ago it still manages to keep up with today. but i wnt advise the tech savy to buy it.realy great phn though. Quite reliable

  • I'm so glad to still have my 6230. It's been with me for over 6 years (Since 2005) still works like new and everything. I've been through many phones since such as Sony Ericsson Walkman, Cyber-shot phones and even Nokia N95 8GB. They all came and gone but 6230 still has stayed with me. Currently got a SE W995 but i might just put my sim back into the 6230!

  • This is one of the the best phone nokia has made. this is what phones should be made of theses days, in addition to the high tech feature. I have an E63 now but the 6230 is the best nokia phone Ive had nokia 3360, 6230, 3520, 3310, 5140, 5210, 6682, 3510i, 6120 and now an E63: most cant stand up to the nokia 6230.

  • i dont like,bcos i don have tis phone,if i got,mayb i will like it

  • I had the most fun with this phone even though I'm now using an E51 with more high tech features. The E51 is fast but I still believe the Nokia 6230 is the fastest Nokia ever.

  • i really love this phone..it's very convenient to use and it's really complete!!!

  • nokia 6230 is good phone.bt i cant dowenload application

  • It is a good phone but I have got problem with it. It has got problem on reducing voice. I have tried without success. Its button alocated aside is functionless.

  • aha

  • why no price

  • This is best ever phone I am using last 4 years and I have no problem. This is very compact and very easy to use all the features. Phone has got all the features I required. I have dropped accidently 3-4 times my phone but still working perfect. What else i can expect from this phone. I would like to say...Nokia is great to make this kind of phones.

  • the best thing since slice-bread

  • Hi friend, Store your music files in the root directory of your memory card and not in folder. You should be able to play the files from your music player now. Bye

  • best phone ever made.. well done nokia

  • I bought a nokia 6230 and must confess its a great phone. The only problem is that i put a 1GB mmc card but when i put items more than 512 mb other items entering shows question mark.Is it from the card or the phone and also if i try browsing the net with the music player on,the song being played either fastforwards itself and cracks. Please what should i do

  • This phone is the toughest i have ever had, I bought it in Dec 2004.And had till today. It survived lots of crashes, downfalls, falls in water, rain, bee dismantled numerous times and ended only with lots of scratches. And still works almost like before! The global market needs more phones like this guy:)!

  • I bought this phone on Dec. 2005, sold it on 2008. This has been the toughest phone I ever had, I dropped it more than 100 times and that little phone was still alive. When I sold it still had its original case with very few scratches, its keypad was still full painted and every one of its features was still working seamlessly. I still have a Nokia (5700 XM) but it isn't even half the tough this 6230 was. And maybe the 6230 is now an outdated phone with no hi tech features like WLAN, HSDPA, big touchscreen, many MP camera, HD video or a dozen GB internal memory but it surely does its primary job flawlessly which is make and receive calls and messages and it surely trumps many new phones on those departments. So it doesn't matter how many hi tech features I'm missing if I'm on the need to make a call or send a message bring me a 6230.

  • i must say this phone is my first, on Dec 7th 2009 it will make my phone 4years. It fell so many times i sore I had to purchase a new one,but its still working. Everything in it is still in perfect working condition. And the only way I'm getting ride of that phone is only if he have given up, and the way its working i dont think its soon.. Nokia 6230 rulezz

  • try deleting some of your messages on your other sms folders. the messages memory is limited to about 150 standard sms

  • the problem is not with your phone..the problem is you have nothing in your brain to process a simple problem..noob

  • can i use more themes

  • if anyone can help me plz...... i want to listen to the music in player mode... but the music player of my nokia 6230 cant browsw files from memory stick.... how can i fix this problem... or if anybody knows player compatible for nokia 6230 just tell me.. tnx :)

  • i have this phone for 5 years now...still working good...even though it has fallen from various heights....i wonder if all these new phns are strong like this...6230 is value for money in my opinion

  • My third phone. Its still working.more than 6yrs.

  • its an amazing phone to use. i am using from 2005 up to now.bettery life best indeed. user friendly.

  • Amazing phone had used the phone in 2005 and now i bought a new one a week ago. battry life is amazing. camera is not bad in the VGA catagory. solid built, im using this phone just for messeging. no problem with this phone what so ever. music is great too on the handsfree. fast UI

  • I have been using this phone for 5 years now. I still find this phone easier to use than my other new phones. I will buy the Nokia X6 but my primary fone will still be this the 6230. I will use it until it last. The pound for pound best fone from Nokia.

  • How can i download games to my nokia 6230

  • This legend will never die.

  • The Nokia 6230 may not be able to multi-task seamlessly like Symbian, it doesn't have Wi-Fi, it doesn't have a universal mini-USB port, it doesn't have a big screen but what it does have is the throne of being one of the VERY BEST PHONES Nokia ever created. Also it's camera beat many of those megapixel cameras out there! TRULY PRECISION...I surely did enjoy it.

  • sir, how to open wallet? i dont know the wallet code

  • Thank you Flower. Now I used RS-MMC 128MB. I Want to upgrade. In my place, I can't find SD-MMC and RS-MMC. But, I heard micro SD with adapter cannot use for 6230. Is it true?

  • If u can not find Mmc u can buy rs-mmc it the same memory

  • Thanks O_J.

  • Micro SD 1G with adapter compatible for this 6230 model ? Currently hard to find SD-MMC or RS-MMC. Thank you.

  • You are right the DKU-5 WON'T work with the 6230. Two data cables will work with the 6230, the DKU-2 and CA-53.

  • To JAK: You are welcome. I'm glad my advice helped you.

  • thanks man. Could you be helpful enough to tell me what USB data cable does it support?? I have DKU-5 of Nokia 3100's and I don't think it will do. Please answer this and I'll be off the hook. :)

  • To FAIZZI: It supports up to 2GB MMCs.

  • nevermind the earlier posting. I read the Original_Jamaican's answer and I think that should ought to do. :)

  • You can put on Opera Mini but NOT Real Player. Real Player is for S60 devices. Nokia 6230 is S40.

  • how do i get real player on my phone? can i put on mini opera?

  • To SUDHAR: I used a 1GB MMC and didn't encounter any problems in my 6230. 2GB will work fine too. Don't try using anything more than 2GB!!! Anything over 2GB won't work. Unfortunately the 6230 doesn't support themes, you would have to get the 6230i for that. You have ever reason to love this phone...this is a real phone.

  • I love nokia 6230 beacause it have every function that phone as. it as radio infared bluetooth memorycard aspect no theme. When i brought my nokia 6230 all my friend like it. They said that i will help them to buy.

  • jotil. every things r here

  • To LUIS: LUIS it's good to see that you are still around. I believe that the 6230 is absolutely Nokia's very special phone of all time. Remember, this is the ONLY phone Nokia regarded as PRECISION and told us to enjoy it (smile). This phone is still the ONLY phone I ever kept for 2 years. All other phones I changed after a year or less than a year. This is Nokia at it's very best. Every other phone tried playing catch up with the 6230 and many of them still are. Luis, you never did show me the pics of you and wifey (smile). Didn't you say you have an E51? The E51 is still my present phone. If you still have your E51 or any other Symbian smartphone, why not let us communicate via Fring or Nokia Chat. I use Fring a lot. Just let me know when you are ready and I will give you my contact information. Take care my long time friend. Nokia 6230 is still in a class by itself!!!!!!

  • This phone is the best phone Nokia has ever produced. Now 6 years my god the phone is still the same... Excellent talk time and battery power... very hard use phone...

  • my nokia 6230 fell in oil about 4 years ago, took it to a repair shop, fixed same day. only speaker got damaged. it is 2009 and the phone is still working fine. [in oil about 3metres deep, for +- 15minutes] nokia's are built for punishment

  • awesome performance,,,,,,,flawless,,,,,,,unique,,,,,,,,simple yet powerful

  • that's right. thumbs up for the 6230 i've been usin it 4 years. i luv it. nokia is the best.

  • i just bought this phone over a friend and im using it for about 4years...ilove this phone....simple but durable....unlike othe nokia phone that is so sensitive...

  • even if de phone is out dated i respect it wen it comes 2 performance. it cannot b compared with newer models which r unreliable n develope complications within a short period after purchase.4 me 6230 is the abest of the best.

  • Menu > Settings > Display Settings (3) > Menu View (3) and choose List or Grid. Mike, Nokia Europe Support

  • Maybe because its OLD? Really outdated OS, storage, size...

  • I've been using 6230 for more than 5 years and I still love it. I just need to change a cover and it will be like new. N6230 has got very comfortable keypad, good battery life, INSTANT response time and simple business design. Screw all those new phones with gigantic screens, 3+mpx cameras, touchscreens and else.

  • haha, i remember the days when this fone was 329 pounds when it first came out.....and guess what? it was worth every penny spent! brillinat design and was an instant classic

  • I fell in love with the phone the first time i saw it.So far its the best of the best Nokia has ever made.4 me has all that i need. All i can say is it's perfect in everything.I wonder why they stoped manufacturing it

  • it's just the best phone forever.I'm useing 6230 four years, life timer 800h. And everything is OK. 10x Nokia

  • Legendary

  • Please inform me what is the maximum size of the memory card supported by this phone. Please email me munim.buet AT gmail.com

  • All I will say is that I normally change phone once per year. I kept this phone for 2 years. I'm YET to keep another phone that long. I had the most fun with this phone. It had everything...and still does. This phone is indeed PRECISION...as Nokia stated.

  • this is an excellent phone that nokia could've manufactured....

  • The strongest phone I've ever had!!! Mine is 5 years old, and it has experienced the biggest falls you can ever imagine, and it also has been through a car accident...the whole backside of the case scratched severely...but there's nothing wrong with the phone..and everything is really fast with this phone, simple to use, just great! if the 6230i didn't come out, I would probably still use this phone..

  • Best phone ever! have now had it for 5 years and still works perfectly, replaced the battery once but thats it. Dropped it tonnes and althought the case has cracked there is no damage to the phone. Will be sad to see it go when my new SE c510 arrives later this week, and hope that it lives up to this great number!!.

  • very poor phone

  • I would like to add that this phone DOES have a speakerphone that is very easily activated and deactivated during calls with the push of one button.

  • I reckon if it is your second battery and you're still having trouble with the length of time it's holding its charge, it is probably your phone somehow using the power too much on standby. Alternatively do you make a lot of calls in a day?

  • Try another card or it could be your phone. Never happened with mine. Did it happen with a lower capacity card?

  • is this model CDMA supported???

  • digram of 6230

  • I have been using Nokia 6230 for more than 4 years now and i simply love this little devil! The only problem i face is when i use 1GB MMC, the phone either hangs or the phone book starts rolling down uncontrollably. Can anybody help me out?

  • i had my 6230 for over 4 years now and had no problems until i dropped it. the screen was damaged and had to be replaced at a cost of $130. but i loved my phone so the price was not an option. i think it is the best phone i've had and would recommend it to anyone. The only thing i would suggest is a better design. its a bit plain. and a screen that is better protected from damage, cause lets be real, a phone will accidentally drop sometime or another and it did, and the same thing happened a year later.

  • I am having to give this phone up to transfer to a verizon takeover.... bummer...I LOVE this phone

  • Best-Yes

  • I have had my nokia 6230 for about 4 1/2 half years. And every feature is still in good woking condition. My phone even dropped in some water and blanked out. The sim card, memory card, battery were totally waterlogged. I simply dried out all the parts and my phone was back up and kicking. I aint getting rid of it. Love my baby. lol.

  • HAPPY NEW YEAR to all my friends here in the 6230 forum.

  • BEST PHONE I've ever had... Proud owner of the 6230 for over 4 years now. Tough, reliable, so user-friendly, packed with features, was the best phone back then and still stands out today.. Everything still works perfectly on my 6230, using a 1GB memory card in it, have dropped it countless times yet it still stands!! Only problem I've had is with the battery, last year it started playing up so I replaced it but the new one isn't that good either, battery will just about last me a full day if am lucky, but I don't mind!! Love this phone, don't think I'll ever give it up.

  • Please how can I delete all the files in my 6230 because some of the files are hidden hereby consuming phone memory space.

  • One of the best phones ever. This phone works after many years and it will continue to work for many years more. To bad that these days phones are designed NOT to last. Same like in the car industry. Mercedes was well known for its durtability, now there is only the reputation left. It does not pays to build perfect cars. Or phones.

  • This is an awesome phone.. i only managed to convince myself to get a new phone when the 6230i went out..

  • what is edge in mobile phones and also what makes it so specail when it come to browsing.

  • I am haiving my nokia 6230 for the past 4 years. ! GB is not sufficient to store my faourite MP3 Songs. So bought I just GB with courage and tested my 6230 with 2GB MMC. Result. As expected... It works fine. But the card has to be formated initially with a PC. Now I stored 1200MB of MP3 SOngs and Video files totalling 1400MB. Still I am having 450MB free. Is it nice. My firmware veriosn is 5.50. Regarding compresison of MP3 Songs by another poster. It can be compressed by using any software. Search through Google. I am using Xilisoft 3gp converter. Using this software you can compress an MP3 Song by putting the Bit rate to 96KB Per second and 44100. You can also increase the loudness of a song with the software by name MP3Trim.

  • More than FIVE years, and it is still at its peak... only had to put new battery. Error free considerably faster than the newer phones, small and light weight! What else do you need from a PHONE!

  • This fone is really unbeatable. It fell in water, fell three stories and still it is in good working order. This is the strongest Nokia music, camera, bluetooth, ir and mem card fone they have made. My aunt has a 5700. It fell from a shorter distance than mine and it had to b repaired!

  • I still consider this phone as being special.

  • Does this phone need PC SUITE or something to be upgraded?

  • hi guyz! is it pssible to cmpress an mp3 song, coz i cn only store 2 wth 3.1mb mem each on the handset mmry..need a little help..advnce thnx!

  • i honestly consider this phone unbeatable

  • I think you should try a Firmware update. The most recommended Firmwares are 5.24, 5.50 and 5.35

  • For the symptons you have mentioned I think you need to update the firmware and its very possible that those problems were gone. But for the time you have with your phone (4 years) it could be a hardware problem. Anyway your phone have lasted a lot, but don't give up try updating the firmware and let's hope the problem to be solved.

  • Please throw the Phone in water it is three 2 years old and of no use. Buy a new one

  • Didnt you know about that Button? i thought you did..

  • Try pushing bottom to top holding lock (part cover)in fooled me too !!

  • I hav been using my 6230 4 the past 4 years & it workd fine. But now the phone restarts 2 often & the bluetooth also hangs while transfering data.Do u guys feel that its time 2 update my phone software or is it ny other prblm?Help wil b apreciated

  • Mine is unlocked to btw

  • I have one!! bought it from my cousin you cant open your back cover? somebody might of superglued it toghether lol

  • Ohyes, never been so satisfied. Since spring 04. New battery and shell once. Thinking of E71 as replacement / additional phone, because of IP-telephony.

  • Do you still have your 6230 ?

  • Keep the 6230, 6230i isnt as good

  • Personally I don't think that it worth it, not because 6230i isn't better than 6230, it's slightly better in UI, camera, display and internal memory but I think that the price difference is too much for an almost 4 years old phone. That price difference was the same when 6230i came out to the market so that is my personal opinion about your query. Afterall 6230 is slightly better than 6230i on interface speed and battery life. I think you should keep your 6230

  • Does it worth to exchange the regular 6230 to the 6230i with th cost of 45$??

  • NO, the 6230 doesn't support themes.

  • how do i get 1gb memory card for 6230 and can you get themes

  • Finally i found nokia 6230, i buy with cheap price about $67, yes its second hand, but i very happy finally i found it, then i upgrade my firmware to 05.50 and can be detect 1 GB MMC, mbe i will try to 2 GB MMC, if there is anyone who use 2 GB memory, please tell me... Willy.

  • What version firmware do you have ?

  • you all are wrong because this set shows 1 gb space on a 1 gb mmc card and as well as 2 gb mmc card can also be used with it. i hve this cell phone and its gr8 currently i m using 2 gb mmc card and it is working perfect and it also shows whole 2 gb space

  • You cannot upgrade it yourself unless you have a flashing box with the required F-BUS, M-BUS cables. Even so, it's better to let someone savvy about the process do it. This flashing equipment is expensive and the entire procedure may overwhelm you. Take it to any Nokia Care Centre or any shops who repairs cell phones. The cost shouldn't be that great from a Nokia Care Centre but the cost may be fairly high from a regular repair shop. Just check around and compare prices. I would suggest you start with the Nokia Centre first.

  • oic thanks OJ for the info!! but if im willing to upgrade my previous firmware into a 5.24 do you have any idea where can i download it? ty

  • To MINES: 3.15 may work with a 1GB MMC. It's just that it will report the wrong size for the card. You will still be able to store up to 1GB if the card is recognized. However, the phone WON'T tell you that you have 1GB of data on the card. If you want to upgrade to 5.24 (which to me is the best of all 6230's firmwares) you will have to visit a Nokia Care Centre / Nokia Care Point and have one of the technicians flash the phone for you for a small fee seeing that more than likely your phone isn't under warranty. You can also visit other repair shops. Basically any repair shop which fixes cellphones should be able to do it for you.

  • so now we all know that a 3.15 version doesn't work in 1gb.. where can we find a upgrades such as the 5.24 version that seems cool

  • This phone is very suprising.. This phone can download stuff os stuff and then bluetooth to other devices too install. I use mines for the internet. I have had my for years and it still works. It fell of tables chair beds and still performs. The figure mite appear limited but once you learn this phone huh, what can i say. I got a gb in it too. Its not to slow this phone can take jamming.. I love it.

  • Sounds like your deccribing the 6220 Classic or N82 there both as good as modern day 6230's but still 6230 is just the Best..

  • Totally agree with OJ, he has just said it all :)

  • If you try to use a 1GB MMC while running v3.15, chances are it won't work or if it does work...it will show only 80MB as total capacity. However, if it works and states the overall memory as 80MB don't worry because you can store stuff above 80MB until it reaches the full capacity of 1GB. The problem is you won't know exactly how much stuff you have on the memory card once you pass 80MB as the phone will tell you that you only have 80MB of stuff on the card when you may in fact have about 500MB of stuff on it. It's just a bug with earlier firmwares. This bug (and support for higher capacity cards) was fixed in later firmwares like 5.24 and higher. My advice to you is try the 1GB and see what happens, try it before buying it.

  • i hav V3.15 only.. can i put 1gb?

  • If the legendary 6230 was released in 2008 instead of 2004, based on the advanced features it came with back then, it would probably have Wi-Fi, built in GPS and all those other high-end features you find in the N & E series.

  • I have finally found a 6230, cant wait to buy it!!!!!!! 6230 is the Best Nokia !!

  • Hey, the 1gb card works fine with 6230 if you have v5.24 or newer. I never tried a 2gb MMC but 1gb should be enough for this phone. To check the firmware just type *#0000# on standby

  • i used to run a 512 card in it. Using PC suite compressed mp3/wma into aac format and it was fine up to about 20 albums

  • 6230 kills W300i muahahahaa

  • The most fun I ever had with a phone. It began a new era.

  • its cool though the design is bangin hard would have been prettier

  • hi everyone here.. im really wondering if a 1G memorycard would be compatible with my N6230, i want to expand its memory to store as many pics and music i want. i really love my 6230 because its so durable. Its one of the best phone that nokia had ever made. PLease email me if anyone knows. [email protected]

  • hey guys! i wanted to buy atlis 1g memory card for my 6230. but how would i know if my version is ok with it. i forgot how to check d version of this fown. pls help. i love my phone so much. i bought last month a new orig housing from nokia in ghils.. it looks new huh!

  • Ohh, what a shame, you don't need to press the call button, he code should unlock the wallet without more buttons but I think the code is wrong and I haven't the manual because I sold my phone 4 months ago. Sorry dude I can't help

  • Very Good phone, no prbs at all

  • i type it already in my homescreen.. then call? nothing happen

  • That's true DANI, many people chose 6300 as theeee replacement for 6230. Even the GSMArena staff mentioned the 6300 as being the true successor to the 6230.

  • Nokia 6300 is also a Great Replacement/Succesor for 6230

  • The best replacement so far for the nokia 6230 is undoubtedly the N70. I had to upgrade to the N70 because this phone is now part of the classics of yesterday. I really enjoyed using this phone and can't wait for the release of the nokia 6230 classic.

  • No buddy, that's not the way, you got my reply wrong. You must enter the *#wallet# on the home screen, not inside the wallet application.

  • re wallet code: this is wat i did... browse menu.. organizer.. wallet.. and typ d code that u said.. but its code error pa din...

  • 6230 is almost indestructible!

  • This phone is absolutely THE best....i have had mine for 3years now and i've found it to be the most compatible and reliable mobile ever. Talk about durability...i would be lying if i told you my phone has never taken a fall..but it has proven worthy and can really withstand the tests of time. Simply attatched!!

  • I'm struggling to replace this phone with one that can compare - the one my son is using is now giving some problems and needs to be replaced (he has a new phone which is lying in his cupboard because it just does not measure up) - THE NOKIA 6230 HAS HAD THREE OWNERS IN 4 YRS. What an excellent phone. What value for money.

  • this was truly a wonderful phone to have at the time. stucked with it even though ppl bragged bout the 6230i with 1.3 camera. i was like whateva dude! best phone

  • Im still looking for a Used 6230 to Buy, i still miss this phone aloot i only had it for 6 months and enjoyed every moment of it! Simply just Love the 6230 alot I Hope i find one..6230 is a Legend

  • legendary phone, legendary features & legendary performer at lightening speed.

  • That's true OJ, this is the phone that I had for a longer time. 2 years and it's hardly to say that I'll keep a phone for that time again. I have memories every time when I saw a 6230 (today I saw a woman with one, when she received a message comming with the classic message tone). Great moments with that great piece. OJ, I'm very glad to see you again in this forum, as always a proud ex-owner of this great phone

  • When Nokia first released this phone they said "Precision Enjoy it". I certainly enjoyed mines for over 2 years. This is the longest phone I ever kept because I normally change my phone annually.

  • I don't care what nobody says, the Nokia 6230 is the best, stongest and durable bluetooth/mp3/infrared phone Nokia ever brought out. You can throw it down, if it falls into water it still goes on.

  • @Mackee How's that?? I'm pretty sure that *#925538# (wallet) is the right code. I had found that code on my user manual when I had my 6230 and it worked for me. Well maybe it had passed so much time since that and I gave to you a wrong code, a shame that I haven't the manual anymore. About the pc suite, yes you should backup all your contacts, messages and everything on the phone memory that you want to keep after the update because as you said, the update restore all your phone with factory settings and the other files after factory will be deleted.

  • Old is Gold

  • This phone has been amazing to me. I've had it since it came out. It has been thrown, crushed, dropped on the concrete, dropped in water (3 times), taken to the beach, etc. and still it drives on. If the battery wasn't failing the the cover not getting to be impossible to replace, I'd keep it still. Farewell to my good friend. If only phone manufacturers made items of this quality anymore...

  • @luis i tried typing the code that u sed thru d main screen but i cant type the word wallet just the *# only. even thru the code for wallet. so how's that? re pc suite...great atlis i can transfer all my mesg to my pc, coz if i decided to upgrade my 6230 it will automatically reformatted ryt? so i wanted to save all of my mesgs..

  • This phone, after 4 years of service, has finally caved in on me, and I just have to thank it for its brilliance. 4 years of getting dropped, getting smashed, getting dropped in water, and it still worked. I salute you Nokia, you hold sentimental value!

  • I saw a jar type of ms w0rd and its c0ol

  • To LUIS: You have taken over from me. You are doing an excellent job my freind (smile).

  • @mackee: If I'm not wrong the only way to retrieve your wallet code is by wallet reset. Just type on the main screen: *#wallet# but this way you'll erase all your entries in the wallet, but you'll be able to use it again with a new code. It's true that with Nokia PC suite you can view and backup you messages, contacts and you whole internal memory.

  • @Rigan: It's posible to solve the problem only in one way: To take your phone to a Nokia center to update or reinstall the firmware. But the consequences will be: The lost of your contacts and messages, only the default items will come back.

  • @the last who post: This phone doesn't play mp4 videos. It plays only 3gp videos (QCIF resolution with amr audio) but in high quality. The EDGE only works when it's available by your service provider. The 6230 doesn't have settings for EDGE conectivity, it works automatically when available.

  • It doesn't activate an EDGE service. It doesn't play MP4. How can solve these problems?

  • hi, i m rigan from bd. nokia 6230 is verry nice mobile. i use it more then 2years. but i fase a big problem. some dayes leter my cell was blocked for my falt. when i solve my cell probleb then i creat a new problem. i lost my total phone mamory. i was liked my phone mamory ring tone,games,clipart,wallpaper,to-dolist,etc.iwa lost everything. so,can u solve my problem. if it posible then u tell me. B.rgds Rigan

  • Hi! Is it true that thru usb cable wid the pc suite, i can transfer my mesgs in my pc?

  • Hi! i love this phone its been with me since 2005. I jas wana asked if its possible to copy thru pc all of my mesgs...thanks!

  • i need this phone cause this is the better

  • this was my third phone but my first one with a camera..I got it when I was 14 yrs old..I loved it, i especially loved the huge memory..i like that it's compact and trendy..i hadn't had any real problems with it..i had to upgrade it to a N70, 2 and a half years later because of the camera resolution..other than that, it was great..

  • Does anyone know if it's possible to view pdf's or word files on the 6230?

  • This is the best phone ever made. Ever. I have to trade it in 2 and a half years later and only cos well, change is good. But I have an emotional attachment to this phone -I'ma miss it..

  • Its d best fone eva.4 quite sumtym i'v bin lookin 4 a fone dat has it al.nokia 6230 is d best.my problem is each tym i switch on my fone,is always sayin check conection setting.pls help

  • @Hellena: The Pop-Port is located in the bottom part. This serves for the USB cable and also for stereo headsets/speakers. What a great phone!!

  • For those of you nokia 6230 users who have problems deleting your connection settings, just dail *#335738# to give you an option of which settings to delete.

  • 6230 ... great fone indeed! where is the pop-port, or can i hv a guide on which USB cable to use to transfer data to my laptop [ my PC hasn't got infrared or bluetooth]?

  • @luis il take a Look, i hope i can find one.

  • 6230 is the best nokia in the world belive meeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

  • To NON-TECH GIRL: The easiest way to get back the default tone is by restoring factory settings. The code for this is 12345.

  • To NON-TECH GIRL: Maybe your ringtone is the problem. Once I download a ringtone and everytime I played it the phone would restart itself instantly. Once I set that ringtone for calls and as soon as I received a call the phone would restart. Use the default Nokia ringtone and see if the problem still happens. If you don't know how to do this tell me. Either way let me know the outcome.

  • I have just started using a Nokia 6230, however, it keeps turning itself off when people call me. Is this a normal problem? Also, how can i RESTORE FACTORY SETTINGS? What is the pin code for that or where can I find it? Maybe that could help me with my turning off problems? Thx... all help/advice appreciated!

  • Well my 6230 still rocks.. i even choose it rather than carrying my Ipod

  • @Dani: If you want a cheap 6230 is as easy as you look on ebay and there are still some 6230s at a very cheap price. From 70 U$D brand new! Last saturday I saw the friend that purchased my 6230 and he cares it like his iPod. Its still working like December 2005 when I purchased it. A very durable phone.

  • change your sim card, or change the network setting to AUTOMATIC

  • The infrared is at the speaker.

  • To SANDEEP: The IR port is right below the speaker.

  • where is IR port in this 6230 phone since from 3 months i am searching to send and recieve data from ir port. but i am not locating its postion.

  • it's very classic!

  • To MAXWISE: buy the 1 Gig.

  • I want to buy 1GB card- but am not sure if it will work as I have heard from others that after 500's MB usage you cant download anymore?

  • To all Nokia 6230 fans and who are still having several doubts. This is the best phone forever. I don't think nokia people will make a better phone like this. Speed = Nokia 6230 Responding time - No phone in the market match to this phone. Doubts: This phone will work normally without any problem up to 2GB memory card. I am going to test it with 4gb...! But memory card not available in chennai. Only SD cards and Mini SD and micro SD cards. waiting for a reasonable MMC. The firmware should be upgraded to at least V.5.24. The latest version is V.5.50 which I am using. You can upgrade the firm ware with minimum cost with local service people in half an hours time. To find out the version press *#0000*

  • To LUXIAN0: I have said over and over that I had a 1GB using in my 6230. Mine has firmware revision 5.24. The higher the firmware, the better the support for higher capacity cards. Which firmware does your phone have ? You can check my keying *#0000# in standby mode.

  • to the guys who says that this phone supports 1gb card pr 2gb card: the phone only supports 512 mb I've tryed with 1gb but it doesn't work

  • The longest phone I ever had. The phone might have been replaced but the memory stays.

  • to : roy thanks ROY cheers deva

  • Great Phone! Guys

  • To roy: Sorry to tell you the next but I think youll need to take your 6230 to a Nokia care center to check it. Thats because I had this phone and I never had that problem. The menu doesnt have an option to lock the card readr with a password. The only available option is to put a password on the memory card to avoid the use of that mmc on other phones.

  • Great phone. Does anyone know if I can get update to receive Chinese charcter messages? If so, where??

  • hi all, i have a prob wid my 6230. the memory card reader got locked by itself somehow and i can't seem to unlock it. i tried inserting other memory cards, but its the same problem. the memory card is lock and requires password. so i guess the problem lies in the memory card reader. can anyone help with a solution??

  • To DEVA: I used a 1GB for 2 years without problems.

  • is this phone only capable of 32 MB of memory card... can i use 256 MB or 512... pls reply.. cheers deva

  • for eg.to check the IMEI no of a handphone, u need to press #06#.. to check the version of the handphone , u need to press #0000#... but how do we recover the numbers that have been dialled from the phone itself? is there any way? for sony ericsson phone, u just press #12 and it will show a list of numbers you have called from the handphone...so please i really need help.. Khidhir Sani email me at [email protected] pls pls pls

  • the phone is just great... no flaws

  • To NERENA: What's the largest capacity memory card your phone supports ? Mine works with 1GB perfectly and overall this phone is said to support up to 2GB.

  • ive been using this phone for about two years now and it hasnt given me any problems. its really great. just wish it could support a large memory card

  • really, i cried a lot because it was stolen from me in someway, till now i spent over a year and still dont know what to buy, cuz this one was awesome, i wish if i can have another one but there are not any new of it. great sound quality, never heared an out speakers for music like this one, if u can have it, do not hesitate. u wont regret.

  • To MARK JOSEPH: No, this phone doesn't support themes.

  • is this phone available for theme download? is this fone can read .nth format?

  • If 3120 classic was launched a month ago (being the original 3120 a newer model than the 6230) why not a 6230 classic??

  • To 786 and OJ: It would be great if the 6230 classic project could be done. I love the specifications that OJ wants in this model. Of course it needs to be like the original 6230: a top class model. Im so sure that Nokia will launch a model with that name. Its a must. Its a legendary model. One of the most sold phones of 2004 and 2005 so for Nokia this is one of their most important models. I hope all our wishes came true very soon because Its a must to me to have a model like this (I owned a 6230, my mom has a 6230i, my girlfriend a 6300 and this wolud be perfect for that collection). Im crossing my fingers ;) Even if actually Im using an S60 device (5700) I would think on this when comes out. Lets hope

  • To 786: Yes I have seen the 6220 classic.

  • @Original_Jamaican have you see then 6220 Classic?

  • @Original_Jamaican Thank You for the Information now il hopefully let my friends at Nokia know about the 6230 classic il let you know the upcomings Cheers

  • 6230 classic specs. PART 2 According to Wikipedia, the Nokia 6100 was said to be the lightest Nokia phone weighing 76 grams. It would be nice if Nokia could somehow miraculously shave down the size of my dreamful 6230 classic. Maybe getting it to 70 grams or 75 maximum. That way it would be the most feature-rich and lightest Nokia phone ever! Also, it would be nice if the Wi-Fi implementation covered verbal communication in addition to data communication. So far the average phone with Wi-Fi only covers data commmunication. Maybe I'm going overboard but maybe the call records could show up to the last 100 dialled, received and missed calls. Also, it would be nice if it could be Quad Band making it a stronger international coverage phone. Finally, something yet to be achieved in any cellular phone...voice recognition (not to be mistaken by voice command). That would be so useful for CONTACT ENTRIES, SMS, EMS, MMS, Internet address entries (HTML & WAP), NOTES and Calendar entries. If voice recognition were available for those 7 areas I mentioned then that would be so helpful...physically challenged people, especially the ones who aren't able to use their hands effectively, would benefit greatly from a feature like this. Yes people that would be my dream Nokia 6230 classic. In fact, it could be called Nokia 6230 Classic Platinum or Nokia 6230 Classic Diamond. Nokia if you are listening do you have the magic to pull off my dream phone ? The price tag may 1 year's worth of salary but I don't care, just create it (smile).

  • Since Nokia is in the classic mood maybe they could create a 6230 classic...even though it may sound a bit ironic seeing that the 6230 was meant to be a classic phone. Nevertheless, they could add the term 'classic' to differentiate it from the original. FIRST and FOREMOST the same exact keypad is a must!!! The 6230's keypad is simply the grestest I have ever come across...GSMArena themselves praise it mightly. Secondly, seeing that most recent series 40 phone has a 2MP camera (7390 is the only s40 phone with a 3MP) they could probably up the ante by giving the 6230 classic a 4MP or even 5MP (with 5MP, no need for N95). The display could be VGA instead of QVGA with 24-bit colour...basic computer resolution right there. Internal memory could be 1GB - 2GB along with a memory card slot supporting up to 8GB memory cards (Motorola RaZr2 V8 offers 2GB with no memory card) . Phonebook could accomodate up to 3,000 contacts. 500 text messages, IrDa, Bluetooth, 3G with front camera, Wi-Fi (WLAN). SVGA video recording with the available memory being the only limit. MiniUSB port, Full built in HTML browser (like Symbian phones). The ability to read document files like Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Acess & PDF. 3.5mm audio output jack so that any earphones could be used. TV-Out support. The ability to copy and move files to and from phone memory as well as memory card. A battery with similar standby and talk time as the 6310i (7 hours maximum talk time) or even more if possible.

  • @Original_Jamaican Yeah i will need the specifications from that post of the 6230 classic so they can see. i will the message on ASAP to my Friends at Nokia. cant wait im so excited to tell them!!

  • To 786: Print this and show to your friends at Nokia, Finland: Since Nokia is in the classic mood maybe they could create a 6230 classic...even though it may sound a bit ironic seeing that the 6230 was meant to be a classic phone. • To 786: I would appreciate if you would pass on the message to them. Once I wrote what I would love to see in a 6230 classic. I will search for that post and repost it. 786 you could probably print it and give it to your friends to show the respective people at Nokia.

  • @Original_Jamaican My Friend i have friends who work for Nokia in FINLAND the home country of Nokia !! i can contact them if i see them and give themm the details about this 6230 classic iv already told them how Legendary and excellent the 6230 is half of them still have 6230 themselves ! when i see them il let them know (smile)

  • BEN, LUIS, 786 and all the others WE NEED to call, e-mail and find every way to contact Nokia and pressure them into making a 6230 classic. I wouldn't mind them making one before year end, maybe a summer release or Christmas release...what a merry Christmas that would be (smile).

  • Legendary Phone

  • I can't wait for the nokia 6230 classic. I now appretiate this fons screen size after buyin an ipod nano. A great and fast internet browsing experience with the opera mini and a very great downloading speed for a mobile fon. This fon is also good for keeping notes. No need to delete messeges cos u'll never run out of memory partitioned for it. Great music player with ff and rd capabilities. Loud speakers and a better fm receiver. Average quality camera.

  • I loved this phone! Got it when it first came out and never had a problem with it. Same with the 3310...2nd mobile I ever had? I wish I had never "upgraded" to the motorola pink razr...silly silly thing! I should have got the 6230i! I have learnt my lesson and I am returning to Nokia for a 6500 slide, fingers crossed it lives up to the Nokia standard I'm used to...

  • i Really regret selling this 6230 i want to buy another one!!! Best phone i have ever owned !!! Nokia i Salute you!!

  • I've had this phone for 3 years and my wife had one for 2 years. I got my wife a pink razr and now reselling it. I tried a nokia 6682 smartphone and also switched back.

  • good moblie nokia made ever in 2004.it have good speed and main facilities

  • To reeflotz: The only way to download the latest firmware is to send your phone to a Nokia care center, but if your warranty time expired youll need to pay a small fee.

  • where can I download its latest firmware? can anyone help?

  • The one and only Best phone from Nokia. I am using it for the past 3 years with 1gb memory card on its slot with all my favourite songs. I am planning to upgrade to 2gb..! I tested with 2gb card it is working nicely... I upgraded My version to V5.50

  • To OJ: Well, I'll needto evaluate my girlfriends 6300 some days to experience if it gets warm again, but I still think it happened because it was new and needed some charge/discharge cicles. If it give probems again (hope that not) I'll take your advise an return it to the dealer to change it for another 6300. Thanks and in some days I'll reply you with information about what happened with the 6300. For the moment I had problems with my ad44/hs44 headset of my 5700 and I'll receive a new one in 3 days.

  • To LUIS: Funny enough I have used my phone while charging and it never overheated. Just felt a bit warm due to the fact that it was charging. Also, believe it or not, there are times the phone feels cold during charging. Heat is certainly not an issue with my phone.

  • To OJ: Thanks for the your quick answer and yes when she had that problem she said that the phone was so warm that she needed to plug h headphones, but that happened only once. she doesn't have heating problems anymore. I think she had that problem with her 6300 because: 1.-She was talking while she was charging the phone, and I think its more common to heat in this condition because the phone had plugged the charger. 2.- Because it was only 1 day after she bought it and I think the battery needs some charge/discharge cycles to function properly. But I'll be supervising the phone behvior for some days if it heats again.

  • To LUIS: There's a lot of controversy about this phone. Most of them being about short battery life and the other major complaint is about overheating. I don't experience either of these problems with my 6300. No matter how much I use my phone or how long I'm on a call, my phone doesn't get hot. Of course it gets a bit warm when used for long periods which is normal for any phone. Nokia would NOT make a phone to burn people. However, if your girlfriend experience overheating to the point where she can't hold the phone, then more than likely her 6300 is defective and she needs to return it.

  • To OJ: Yeah it is a perfect phone with very normal looks but high end equippment even in these days. And what about your 6300?? Isn't giving you some problems?? I asked you that question because my girlfriend bought this phone (I recommended her this over the 5300, the phone she wanted before she saw that beauty)and she is very happy with it, she has no complain about her 6300 but someday when she was talking while charging the phone, it started to heat after like 15 minutes of call. Is that normal??

  • this is the reason why nokia is nokia...is the solid base of nokia...this and the 8310..cheers

  • To LUIS: CNET and many other official reviewers said the same thing. The 6230 can easily be underestimated because of it's simply looks. CNET went on to say that Nokia spared no expensive on the 6230. They loaded it with all the possible high end features in it's time.

  • To Dani: Believe me, I was very skeptical to sold my 6230 but I have bought the 5700 two weeks before and I cant hold two phones. It would be unfair for the 6230 to have it in the box. But Im not so happy with the 5700 because the paint on the C and menu keys started to peel off. But for the rest its ok and Im starting to like it more. PD: ITS GOING TO BE VERY HARD (IF NOT IMPOSSIBLE) TO FIND A PHONE THAT CAN BEAT SOME DAY MY 6230, my 5700 isnt even near (first it needs to survive at least a year). These are my words about 6230: A phone that seems "inoffensive but inside its elegant body there is an unbeatable beast

  • @luis trust me, you will regret selling the 6230 i still regret selling my 6230 after 2 years, i sold it 2 years ago to my uncle! and im still regretting selling it 2 years on! the 6230 was really that good! i miss it now i got a W850i as you know which is reminds me of 6230

  • It's very hard to say goodbye to my bes mobile ever:6230 (Isold it on January 28th)but finally I bought a 5700 and it's great but isn't so durablev(the paint on menu and c keys started to peel off) but is't a big letdown for me. As my last comment: nokia forever and I will remember this phone for the rest o my life as a revolutionary one, looking very business like but very user friendly and entertaining.

  • this Phone is still a Legend

  • hiya does anyone know how to delete settings from connection settings?????? please let me no asap.... thanx in advance

  • It will work abroad depending on the network you want to use it with. The 6230 is Triband. The European version have a 900/1800 frequency band while the American version (known as 6230b) have a 850/1900 frequency band. You need to find a provider supporting the frequency based on the version 6230 that you have.

  • does nokia 6230 work abroad can sum1 rply bak very ungernt

  • The 6230 was released in April 2004...4 years ago. Back in it's time it was the very best and it still poses a challenge for many new phones up to now.

  • This is the best phone by Nokia...ever It has everything...only wish it had a good res snapper and a flash. The phone has some good design parameters. The panels are resistant to wear and tear too. After this one,i really do not want to buy anything else Rohan Fernandes

  • @Original_Jamaican i agree

  • Probably the best phone of all the time. I had years of fun and 'connecting' with it. It still lives on, whether in our pockets or minds.

  • to original_jamaican thanks so much for the info. even with that, i'll still stick to the fone. i dont think i want to use another fone! (at least for now).the fone is 4 yrs and still tite.

  • @Original_Jamaican iv now voted 6230 as the best Phone iv have owned recently my W850i is giving me some serious Problems! the problems are: stopped reading memory card D-Pad cracked slider loose and gives creaking noises battery life has gone down to 1 day Nokia is the BEST and Nokia is the BEST !!!!!! Nokia are the BEST ! i could say that 10000 times over again and again !! i agree with every word you say OJ and Luis Nokia is the BEST !!!!!

  • TO: DANI & ORIGNAL_JAMAICAN thanx for your ideas i realy appriciate but you know my phone gallery is gone not the memory card that time i was not using my memory card but now i m using ma memory card and the memory card is working properly but the phone gallery is not there and i cant even download anything if you have an idea pls tell thanx

  • To OJ: I avoid SE too!! WIth that experience 4 years ago with a t226 I turned back to Nokia and since that time Im still with Nokia and want another of its products (5700 or 6120c). Yeah I know that SE build quality is much worse than nokia (since I had the t226 and even with a friend with a less than a year old w810 that is very scratched and it lacks the battery cover). To DANI: Well Im still a young person (Im 17) and I never get bored of my 6230. Personally I dont go for SE anymore because their W series phones are minded for young people but few months latter after the release of a W series phone they are seen in almost every corner and I prefer a more-original handset (that not everyone has). The worst is that every handset manufactured by SE has the same UI since 4 years ago and they are expensive for what they offer (in my country w880 is 60 U$ more expensive than 5700 and I prefer the last one a thousand more times for what it offers over w880)

  • To ADE: Unfortunately receiving files directly to the memory card is NOT possible with 6230. That feature came out with the release of series 40 version 3 (s40v3) whereas 6230 is series 40 version 2. 6230 was the first Nokia to implement the s40v2 operating system and the best phone with that operating system.

  • @OJ you cant just avoid SE altoghether? thats abit biast i mean when i had 6230 i never knew for 1 second i would buy the W850i but since im 16 yrs old i slowly got bored of 6230 so then i just got the W850i and Dream Phone had come True! i still Use NOKIA and always WILL use Nokia ! its about taste i soppose!

  • I've had this fone for a while now.Great fone!Very durable. Does anyone know how to recieve files via infra red or bluetooth directly to the memory card?

  • To DANI & LUIS: The SE phones I'm talking about are T310, T610 and P800. Both the T310 and T610 both had joystick problems and some of the buttons didn't respond unless you pressed them hard. The P800 had some blackness at the bottom of the screen after it fell causing certain elements at the screen bottom not to be seen. I visited the K750 forum a few times and one opinionist complained that his K750 fell and a permanent black line appeared in the middle of the screen. That reminded me so much of the P800 and I wasn't surprised. From my personal experiences and others I have read I know that SE phones lack durability and reliabilty. I just see the build quality as being poor. I admit, those phones are from yesteryear but in recent times a friend of mine had a W810 and it fell in water or water caught it some other way and it stopped working so even the newer models still have their problems. Based on these experiences I avoid SE at all costs. Furthermore, Nokia focuses more on the telephony department which IS the PRIMARY reason for buying a phone. SE focuses more on Multimedia which causes the telephony areas to lack. The 6230 and the K700 were the BIGGEST RIVALS EVER in the mobile phone industry...reminds of of the Toyota Camry and Honda Accord. You will find MILLIONS of post about these two phones being compared to each other. The K700 was a turn off in the phonebook area and camera. The 6230 could store 1,000 contacts with all fields filled whereas the K700 could only store 510 items...which means if you filled all the fields you would only get 102 contacts. Compare 1,000 contacts to 102!!! The only advantage the K700 had was the video playback where it played AAC while the 6230 only supported AMR. That alone would NOT let me choose K700 over 6230. The K700 died a long time ago BUT the 6230 still lives on today and will NEVER be forgotten.

  • Nokia and SE are both good in their own way! they have their drawbacks which people will have to live with i Love Nokia and SE in the same way im NOT Biast :)

  • Yeah I never had problems with Nokias and for that reason Ill stick to it again and again. Im considering 5700 or 6120 because yesterday I sold my 4months old 6682 and I sold it because my cousin paid me 180 U$ (and thats not bad for such used phone) not because the phone was bad. And I stiil keep 6230. I had bad experiences with SE but that was in 2005 with a t226 (the casing was very bad quality and the keypad characters were comming off after only 2 months and since that time I have nokias because they are more durable. And the interface looks he same like 4 years ago. Im so happy to have bought this phone over the k700 2 years ago.

  • @Original_Jamaican what models number were they? iv had my K800i for 2 years and NOT 1 with the Joystick and Software of SE is STABLE! i havent had 1 Hang from my K800i in 2 Years Yes 2 Years! my Nokia 6230i hanged nearly every day 6230 did rarely 6233 did hang but after firmware upgrade, im Loving my 6300 though its a Great phone ! cant live without it

  • Well in every case they were joystick problems and permanent blackness appeared in most of the screens due to the phone falling to the ground.

  • @Original_Jamaican Hmmmm..what kind of problems did they have with SE phones?

  • I don't want any SE phones. I personally have had bad experiences with them as well as other family members and friends. I never had any sort of problems with any of my Nokias.

  • 6230 is the best phone i have had ! 2 reasons: Excellent Keypad Design and CandyBar W850i dont have them....

  • @OJ/luis i praise SE and Nokia the best Nokia phone iv owned is the 6230 ! just wish i never sold it i still LOVE Nokia phones to the max this is what i did since im a SONY fanboy and used Nokia phones i bought a SE just to see what there like and i Love my W850i but its my 2nd Phone my Main phone is now 6300 and i have 6230i/6233 still ..i still LOVE Nokia

  • To LUIS: You are right, the 6230 VGA camera is the absolute BEST. Regardless of DANI (786) praising SE phones, he recently acquired a 6300 and loves it but somehow he feels the need to rate SE phones over all of Nokia phones. Worldwide sales record shows it as being the opposite though as Nokia is #1 in sales and SE is 3rd. I absolutely love Nokia and plan to stick to it always.

  • I think that everyone has his/her own experiences with the brands. Dani has a good experience with SE w850i and I think its totally valid his opinion. In my case I always had good experiences with nokia. Since my father when bought his first phone (5125) until these days having a 6682, a 6230 (my best phone), my sister having a 6131 and my mom a 6670 and 6230i. To put an example my preferred phone so far is 6230 because it never give me problems, I dropped like 100 times and still works like a charm, it doesnt hang and the interface is very fast. The extras are good quality mp3 player ad vga camera (the best in my opinion between vga cameras). But this 6230 is 4 years old and is logical that are better equipped phones these days like danis w850 or k800, 6500 slide to say some. But I still like this above others because its durability (I think that any of the newest phones cant survive all the hits, crashes and even some splashes that my 6230 suffered). But maybe one day Ill find another phone that deserves to outplace my current first place (6230) like dani or maybe not. Im thinking on buy 6120c or 5700 cause Im satisfied with s60 (6682)

  • @Original_Jamaican my previous is me with the name *Dani* anyway SE's are tough! as in their build quality is tough! my W850i has coped with being in water. fallen out of my bike while riding a bike! been in sand, been in water, been crushed, been squashed, been in ice, been in heat ..and it works like new! and it has Walkman 2.0 and the 2MP camera beats Nokia kind off. battery life is 5-days.even with Walkman Multimedia!!! dont worry OJ im still a Nokia Boy and will always own Nokia phones! and 1 Day Nokia might just number 1 for me.

  • @Original_Jamaican thats why im embarassed the thing is iv owned a SE W850i since 2006 and till now it has given me NO Problems!! since i use my Phone for Multimedia Camera/Music etc SE win in those categorys! to tell the Truth SE make slightly better Phones in Multimedia then Nokia but Nokia are goood i use them to but not totally im still a Nokia User always will be Nokia always satisfy me, but most of that changed after i bought a SE W850i ! Please OJ Respect SE there such a good company honestly Nokia N-Series could never get to the level of SE Walkman and Cyber-shot iv tested a N95 and its nowere close to Cyber-shot/Walkman Phones! i Know Nokia are the world leader and best selling phones in the world but come on? i soppose its about to taste i never knew SE would be that good Nokia is still good in their own way!

  • To 786: It's strange that you put SE before Nokia.

  • @Original_Jamaican heres your answer im embarrased ! 1.SE W850i 2.SE K800i 3.Nokia 6230 4.Nokia 6300

  • To 786: Which phone was your 1st and 2nd best ?

  • third best phone i owned. 6230 exceeded my expectations in every way !!!

  • Yeah what OJ said is right. A couple times that happened to my 6230 and I was going to format the MMC when I first think to restart the phone. In that way my MMC content restored again and the second time I needed to remove and put again the MMC. Anyway this is an excellent phone. P.D: My mom bought last saturday a 6230i for a bargain price (55 U$D) new! so now I have 6230 and its succesor available. Both are great

  • To ZEESHAN & DANI: At times the memory card may seem corrupt but it isn't. What you can do first is take out the memory card, switch the phone back and then check the gallery to see if everything is back to normal. If everything is back to normal then you need to keep reinserting the memory card until it works properly again. More than likely the Gallery will return to normal after you take out the CARD and switch the phone back on. However, if memory card doesn't work properly again after reinserting it then refer to my suggestions below. Whenever this memory card mystery happened to me I would turn the phone off, take out the memory card and re-insert it. Sometimes I would have to repeat the process a few times but it eventually came back to normal. Sometimes you have the reinsert it quite a few times before it registers correctly again. You can also take out the battery while the phone is on to give it a quick a perk then reinsert the memory card. If reinserting it a few times doesn't work. Take out the battery, SIM and memory card and leave them out for about an hour or more. Doing this resets the phone's software. DO NOT FORMAT THE MEMORY CARD unless none of the above suggestion works. ONLY FORMAT THE MEMORY CARD AS A LAST RESORT.

  • @zeeshan your memory card has got Currupt, go to options in Gallery and then click *Format Memory Card* and then the memory card should work again..if not the Memory card is 100% not usable the same thing happend to mine in my 6230i

  • my problem is that i downloaded a ringtone from internet and suddenly when i finished downloading i played the tune it was playing nicely after half tone played the switched off and then i on the phone the gallery was complettly empty no photos,no music files, nothing at all so can u pls help me out of this thanx if u can mail me at my email add thanx

  • To SANTOSH: Unfortunately the 6230 doesn't support themes.

  • I want to know if i can download themes to this phone, cos i tried to download many themes, but it was said that this file format was not supported............ can anyone tell me if i can download themes to this phone, if yes can u please tell me which file format it should be.............

  • To ANDYA: No FORM of SD cards will work.

  • sd memory cards or micro sd with sd adaptors are working on this phone?

  • To ANIE: MMC = Multimedia Memory Card If you are having trouble getting your 512MB card to work then the problem is with the brand. There are some known issues with some manufacturer's memory cards not working at all as well as some capacity from a manufacturer working fine and other capcity from the same manufacturer working fine. For example, it was said that Kingston 128MB worked fine yet Kingston's 256MB didn't work fine. In the case with Kingston, that may have been to the limitation on the first firmware release for 6230 which was 3.15. I'm sure all of this was resolved with the later firmwares and now every capacity up to 2GB should work fine PROVIDING you have a later firmware. In my experience with MMCs brands like A-Data (512MB), Kingston (1GB) and Super Talent (256MB)worked fine. More than likely higher capacity cards from these said brands will work perfectly too. These capacity cards worked fine on firmware 5.24 which is what my phone has. ANIE, if you are going to buy a MMC for your 6230 these days make sure it's a MMC Plus! and not the regular MMCs as the standard MMCs are much slower. MMC Plus! have a much faster read/write data transfer rate so navigating and opening stuff on your memory card will be much quicker. You can check Howardforums, as well as others, for a list of compatibily memory cards. Most of these lists are from 2004 but you can use it as a cross reference and also read what users had to say about their 1GB cards etc. Hope you found my post very informative. Take care and good luck with your mobile endeavours.

  • To ALEX DJG: You are WRONG. The MMC limit is 2GB. I had a 1GB MMC Plus! which worked perfectly with my 6230 until the day I sold it. If you are going to be using high capacity memory cards such as 1GB or 2GB it's best to upgrade to the later firmwares as the older firmwares will register the total capacity as less Firmwares lower than 5.24 normally sees a 1GB as 80MB but you can still store more than 80MB worth of stuff on it. The bottomline is that a 1GB will still work with those older firmwares. Old in my book is 4.40, 4.28 and anything lower. Overall 5.24 was the very best firmware. It made the phone move faster, the VGA photos looked really clear (more like Megapixel photos) and everything in the phone ran smootly. Best of all, when you put a 1GB MMC in a 6230 with 5.24, it was registered as 1GB (990.2MB due to formatting) and there were no problems getting the memory card to work.

  • to meanbean: What do you mean for you continuous mp3 playing?? if you talk about playing lots of music hits phone is capable to do it. You would never have problems with that. About the e-books reader I dont think there is some available for this phone. Mainly because those programs are some heavy and this phone accept only java programs up to 128kb each. But is a great phone. 2 years with it and still working

  • can someone tell me how to play mp3s continually in the 6230? can someone tell me how can i read ebooks in this phone?

  • well as NOKIA said it was made to be a Perfect Phone and Yes 6300 is the True Successor to this Legend 6230 but nothing can replace the REAL 6230 !! it might have its successors but theres only ONE 6230

  • The 6230 is a top phone and forever will be. I have never kept a phone as long as I have kept the 6230 and it was worth it. I now have 6300 and even though it's enhanced in the multimedia areas, in the long run I find the 6230 more entertaining and fulfilling, strange but true. Regardless, the 6300 is the best replacement in my view. I see it as being a polished 6230 in a slimmer body with less battery life due to the very high quality 16.7 million colour screen.

  • The best phone I have ever owned. The only 2 replacements for this phone could be 6230i and 6300. There are no phones faster stronger than this one. To Anie: Yes, the phone's limit is just 512 mb.. That's really a pity. I was ready to buy a 2Giga card when the seller asked me at the end, what is the model of my phone. When he heard that it's the regular 6230 he reminded that the phone doesn't support cards higher than 512 mega. By now I own 3 phones: 6230, E1000 and k1m but the main one that I use is still 6230

  • My Nokia 6230 keeps me busy all the time. But it has a hard time reading 512mb memory cards. Is this it's limit?

  • My Nokia 6230 keeps me busy all the time. But it has a hard time reading 512mb memory cards. Is this it's limit?

  • To jamir: No you cant play mp4 or any other video files only 3gp. But if you arent satisfied with 3gp quality this phone can play very high quality 3gp videos without run them slow or anything wrong. I can recommend you a very good video converter for FREE: Apex free 3gp video converter. In this you can convert 3gp files up to 30fps. Note: in the settings only be sure to put the size of he video in 176*144 and with amr sound (this phone doesnt play 3gp videos with aac sound)

  • halu, im from philippines i would like to ask something about this unit., im just asking that this unit can play movie mpeg? or mp4? or other format? i think in CP is a 3gp format ryt?

  • still one of the best iv owned.

  • When i first got the 6230 i was curious whether i would like it or not, but when i got it it Exceeded my expectations 100% !! i Loved it soo much its one of the best phones i ever owned, Design 1 of the Best, Battery Life was really good, MP3 Player was wicked!, Camera Performed really Good, Excellent Keypad, Great Display, Great Build Quality!, Menu was FASSSSSST! its just Pure PERFECTION! as Nokia said it would be

  • @OJ nah its ok thanks anyway!

  • To 786 & BEN: As many have said, the extremely high quality screen on the 6300 is enough to make you want the phone. 786, I have a theme of a beautiful lady which pushes the screen to the limit. It's relatively small too at 176KB. If you like I can send it to your mailbox.

  • @Ben 6233 really isnt a capable upgrade to this LEGENDARY 6230, 6233 as OJ has said has 500 Phonebook capacity which is a downgrade from 1,000 , 6300 has 1,000 capacity Phonebook and Feels like a PURE UPGRADE to the 6230 but since Nokia made 6233 aswell its up to you which one one suites you out the 2 Phones 6233/6300

  • To BEN: The 6233 may have a few more features than the 6300 but it doesn't have a high capacity phone book. It makes no sense to downgrade from the 6230's 1,000 contacts phone book to the 6233's 500 contacts phone book limit. What is more important, multimedia features or telephony features ?

  • i think nokia 6233 is the best replacement to the 6230. the disadvantage with using the 6300 is that it has no stereo speakers. my mom just got a 6300 and having played with it, its not that wild as the 6230. also the 6233 has 3g and infrared.

  • TO Lili: I think 6301 can be a good replacement to 6230, but I dont think is available yet. So you can consider the 6300 too. A cool adition to 6301 over 6300 is WLAN but at least in many countries isnt available. If you are looking for an all-in-one device you should look for an S60 phone like 6120 classic or E51. But the most direct sucessor of your 6230 definitely is 6300. Hope this to be helpful to you and is a great idea to keep your 6230 even if you buy another phone. I still keep it after 2 years eevn if I have a 6681 but I use both.

  • i've had this phone for the last three years. and as many of u have mentioned, it is by far the BEST... I'm trying to replace it though i won't sell it.. any ideas what I should get? I saw the 6301 and I;m considering that...

  • To TINEZ: If you want a slower phone go with S60, like the 6120 classic that LUIS mentioned. If you want something reminiscent of the 6230 in terms of speed and features then go with the 6300 as DANI recommended. The 6300 in my view is the best upgrade to 6230. The 6300 is also the best selling phone for the year and the 6300 has the best screen around. The screen is crystal clear and is said to be better than any other phone screen, LCD Monitor or HD-TV. Check out the 6300.

  • @timez 6300 is the BEST upgrade to the 6230

  • to tinez: It depends on which type of phone do you want. Because I could recommend you an S60 phone like 6120 classic (I aws going to buy that phone) or 5700. But from S40 I could recommend you 6300. at the end the decision is yours but you can be more specific and this way help you on a better way

  • I've been using this for the last 2 years, and I think is time to improve my cellphone. which one do you recommend? this is almost the best phone, but it can be better

  • This is the phone NOKIA cannot replace with any other phone, I have being using mine for the past 3 years and its still serving its purpose. I will recommend it to anybody, anytime anyday. Such a Handy phone for all sex.

  • Yeah visit Mexico, Im not making a commercial and this isnt my purpose but here 6230 is very cheap like the 6681 I have (it cost me 90 US new). But 6230 is better phone. In addition Mexico is a beautiful country with beautiful places to visit. After 2 years my rear case is partially broken but the software part is still like when it was new.

  • I think this is the best phone ever. I have been using 6230 for last 4 yrs and its working absolutely fine. It has dropped down for more than 8-10 times, the working condition is excellent. I am sure it would still last for another 5yrs.

  • @luis i want to go to Mexico just to buy a 6230 if thats the case:)

  • Its incredible but after 3.5 years selling in my country this model its still available so if you want a new 6230 you can visit Mexico and buy a new one :D It costs only 100 US!!

  • it's the best phone, Truly wish i didnt sell mine :(

  • ive had nokia 6230 for 3 years now and like any other owners said, this phone rocks, the best of its kind. tho i am considering to buy a new phone. :)

  • Yeah, this phone is so speedy, more than my 6682 with S60 an so light and pocketable. Its very hard to find a good replacement to this mobile because it is so good and has a perfect balance between features, performance and price

  • i love my 6230 coz it wont let me down unlike the bulky n70 thats lags frquently...6230 is the best phone for me.. fast reaction cool features fast cams and videos in a small packges.. were can you find a phone that is much better than my 6230

  • I had this phone for 2 years then gave it to my dad who has had it for at least a year and its still going strong. Camera could be better but other than that a great phone.

  • it's real the best friend I have! It's my everything! Today it's second year since I had it as a birthday gift from my college room mate.

  • To ALL 6230 FANS: The 6230 was designed as a perfect phone. Nokia said it themselves. Nokia said you will never find another phone in this world, the same size, with all these features. Nokia was right because long after, many larger and smaller phones were and still are playing catch up. Nokia noted this phone as being "Precision, Enjoy it"...I surely enjoyed having it and it's the longest I have ever kept a phone. Simply the greatest phone of all time.

  • i think Nokia 6230's SO perfect cellphone iam still scared after 4 years to replace it to E51 which has many more features...well i might dare it someday!!!

  • 6230 what a Phone it was cant be beaten

  • i've been using this phone since 2004...it still function as the 1st time i bought it...THE BEST PHONE EVER!!!I LOVE IT SOOO MUCH!!!i'm not gonna sell this phone...its my baby...recently i bought 5610...which most said that the best sound quality phone or what sort ever...but i still think that 6230 still have a better sound quality compare to 5610...its very2 fast...besides, i love the design most...very sexy to watch!!!hee...

  • Next month myphone will be 2 years old since I bought it. For this time only I can say that my battery is expiring, or that I think. Because I have a 6681 too and often left my 6230 fully charged in my desk and one day I tested it how many days the battery lasts and I found that the battery actually lasts 6.5 to 7 days in standby mode. Is this normal?? because when I used it heavily I never tested it because I hadnt any other phone to use. In normal use the autonomy is about 2.5 to 3 days (2 if I listen some hours of music)

  • i rekon this looks alot better then the 6230i but then again the 6230i is a business fone.

  • @Original_Jamaican Nokia for Life!!!! Hmmmmmm i have had a Nokia 6230 i liked it aloooooooot but then sold it ..now i got a Sony Ericsson W910i which stores 7000 contacts muahahahaahah now im with Sony Ericsson i stand by my words Sony Ericsson for Life!!!! but i still like Nokia 100% !!!

  • To DANI: I only know of SIMs supporting 250 contacts maximum. Even if I came across a SIM card which supported 500, I still wouldn't see it the way you see it because SIM cards ONLY support 1 number per contact so if I wanted to store 5 numbers for a single contact I would have to put in there names 5 times along with the various telephone numbers WHICH SIMPLY means that you would have used up 5 slots out of the 500 for a single contact with multiple numbers. To make matters worse I wouldn't be able to store an e-mail address, street address and other details for that contact because SIM memory doesn't allow details to be saved. So DANI, whether a SIM card has storage capacity for 500 or even 1,000 contacts, it just doesn't cut it for me. So I stand by my words. Nokia for life!!!

  • @Original_Jamaican True 6233 has only 500 contacts on the phone memory 6300 has 1000 ! ...but then Yes 6233 has 500 but sim cards have memory of 500 aswell so its still 1000

  • To DANI: The MAIN reason why I didn't get the 6233 is because it only had support for 500 contacts...which in my opinion, is a major downgrade to the 6230. Don't ever forget that first and foremost it's a phone so the telephony department is extremely important.

  • 6233 is a very Nice upgrade to 6230 i upgraded from 6233 from a 6230 6233 is 100% brother to the 6230 feels the same Menu speed wise Navigation wise and features! it feels like a well prooved 6230 Upgrade. iv tested 2 6300's and they are very good but to me its more of a 6230i Upgrade 6233 is the BEST succesor to the 6230

  • yup the 6230 does have that wow factor wherien you just don't want to let go of it. hey what about the 6233? is it almost as good as the 6230?

  • I now have a Nokia 6300 which is a polished up version of the 6300, slimmer, better screen and a bit more features. I see it as being the the present upgrade to my respected 6230 but the wow factor isn't as great these days whereas the 6230 had a wow factor for years. The 6300 is a great phone and I give it it's ratings but there's something about the 6230 which makes it stand out in a class by itself.

  • Nokia needs to make a 6230 classic which would aim to blow away every other phone in the industry...just as how the original 6230 crushed the competition back in it's time. Even though there are better phones these days, the 6230 is still one of the most dominant on the market and better than many just the same.

  • hey can anyone tell me what other nokia fones are as fast as the 6230? Because the 6230 is a very fast and reliable fone, performance wise. Tnx.

  • i wish Nokia could make a phone to match this Legend 6230

  • This phone is very fasted!!!!! Super!!!!!!

  • Yeah, the best phone I ever had. I have one with 512mb MMC and yeah its very loud (its louder than my current phone, a 6681) and almost everyday I visit this site to help people that have problems with it or need help and always vote 10 because this phone deserves it. I want this phone to be in the top 15 best rated phones in this site cause is better than some phones in that window

  • This PHONE IS AWSOME i have one with a 256 mb memory card its great its loud and clear the screens good and the camera is awsome i used to have a LG m6100 the 6230 beats the LG by a long shot GREAT PHONE NEVER GONA GET RID OF IT GOOD STUFF

  • same....i missed my 6230 when i sold it even tho i sold it to my uncle and then he sells it without telling me lol still wish i never sold it ! i misss it never had any problems with it the menu was faaaast ! with 1GB it never slowed down ! he keypad was great the design was unbeatable the VGA camera was excellent performing and clear same with Video recording.....great all rounder defantly i would say its better then SE K700i,K750i and Samsung D500 ..... now i have a 6233 to replace the 6230 if i find a 6230 il buy it straight away Nokia killed the competition when this came out

  • I've Sold my Nokia 6230 only @ 56$.......Now I missed that very much!!!!!!

  • To 786: I didn't sell my 6230 because I didn't want it anymore. I sold it because my girlfriend (soon to be wife) wanted to give her teenage son as a birthday gift. So I will still have the 6230 to play around with, it will still be close by me (smile),

  • To LUIS: I know the 6230 and the K700 were the biggest rivals ever in the phone industry. You can find millions of post about them tackling each other. The ONLY reason I mentioned K750 was because of the person who mentioned the K750 killing the 6230. The 6230i was the contender for the K750 but overall the original 6230 turned out to be the crowd's favourite despite the 6230i release. Having said that, the original 6230 could be seen as an unofficial contender for the K750 and when you think about it, if the 6230 is seen as the greatest phone of all time then it's a contender for every phone out there. Take care Luis.

  • I cant believe that you OJ have sold your beloved 6230. Even after I bought a 6681 a month ago I keep my 6230 and still a great phone. 6681 is a good phone too but it has nothing to do with the speed of my 6230, and the battery of 6681 drains very quickly so I have to use my 6230 battery as a spare batery sometimes. K750 has nothing to do vs 6230. They are phones of diferent time and 6230 is more durable, easier to use, louder, etc etc. And that comment was a little out of place because the contender of 6230 was K700 and 6230 was much better :) I have had 6 phones at this time, included 2 Nokias and were the best so for that reason I always buy Nokia and Ill still buying them. The best

  • @Original_Jamaican you have Sold your 6230 ??

  • The NOKIA 6230 is the greatest phone of ALL TIME. ONE of the FASTEST PHONES EVER!!! Sony Ericsson K750i ??? I don't hear that being talked about anymore, whereas the 6230 is still being praised. I eventually moved on from my 6230 which is the longest I ever kept a phone, over 2 years. Officially sold it Friday October 26, 2007. I now have 6300 which is basically the same but flashier in every way. I still love and miss my 6230 though. Farewell my beloved phone. OJ

  • 6230 is a great phone i have it, i need someone tat wil tell on how to connect my bluetooth to it and let it works properly every other things are completely OK

  • K750i? cmon man it cannot kill the 6230 coz the 6230 so faast that it'll just leave the K750i in the dust.

  • 6230 was ahead of its time by only 1 year K750i the next generation came and killed it !

  • This phone can record only 4 minutes. Its ok since I use the video recorder very ocassionally. It hasnt good quality so it would be useless if it could record several minutes or even hours

  • sumbody is selling this phone for US 80 .. or RM270 ...second hand ofcoz.. does this phone worth rm270? plz .. anybody reply me by sending yr answer and opinion to my email [email protected]

  • can someone tell me how many hours can i use to record a video with my phone

  • This is a great phone! i previously had a SE V630i but much prefer this phone. I found a way you can play your songs from the memory card in music player, all you have to do is move one song to the phones memory, and it reads all of the songs on card and phone

  • Sad day, had my 6230m now from Nov 04, gave up all offers of upgrades as i found it hard to beat. However, the battery is starting to die and so is the replacement so i tried to find something to match it.....couldnt find a decent Nokia, opted for a Sony E 770, dont want to turn it on at all. I;l always have the 6230 close by!!

  • TO BEN: Maybe the only way to do that is restoring the factory settings. Only you need to enter to settings and select the option: restore factory settings. If your 6230 has a security code, you must need to enter it to restore your phone. I hope this information to be useful for you

  • wish i never sold my 6230 :( miss everything about it Speedy Menu ! Loudness of the speaker Best Keypad ever Best looks everything about it A1 Looove it

  • please someone tell me how to delete saved configuration settings on this phone. please someone help me. thanks in advance

  • Of course it plays AAC. Mine does. I finally bought another phone to replace this king, a Nokia 6682 (6681 with 850 band)with S60 but I miss the speed of my old 6230. I still keep my 6230 and like OJ almost everyday I rate it at max cause it deserves it

  • No AAC playback..

  • Not just a king in the telephony department BUT also a king in the multimedia department.

  • Still love and rate this phone to the max. I still have mines and would HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend it to anybody. This phone has no limits. Accept any frame rate, any video quality, 512kbps or higher. No matter how much I maxed videos or audio qualities, I never ever noticed a slow down in performance. This phone is a true example of a king. OJ

  • To STIFFLER: YES it supports AAC playback.

  • Pls help! This phone supports aac playback?

  • To BROOK: You can download MARIO 1 as well as other games from here:

  • Help me!!!!! I need to downdload super mario 1 in my nokia 6230.

  • in my Opinion the 6230 is better then the New 6233 aswell the new Nokia S40 Phone's seem to have Lost the Pure Nokia Touch ! Nokia 6230 has to be the BEST Nokia ever Made i miss Mine i sold it(which i REGRET now) :(

  • yo...........i have mines about 3yrs now and ah really would like to get another one it best but the only thing is that where i'm from it sell out dread but ah thinkin bout gettin d 6230i..........link meh give mah some advice

  • pls. guy how can i download games in to my 6230?

  • Even though I have the new 6300 I prefer certain things with the 6230, for example entering contacts which is quicker and better in more ways than one when doing it on the 6230. Nokia wanted the 6300 to have a different feel in every department and this they have achieved, many of the changes are welcomed.

  • I still love this phone.

  • To LUIS: You can transfer your contacts from PC to phone by using Nokia PC Suite. Just click on Contents or Backup and Restore (whatever your version of PC Suite calls it). It's the first icon. When you flash your phone all the factory contents are reinstalled from the flash software. The only thing you will lose is your personal stuff like contacts, text messages, calendar notes, notepad notes, internet settings and sometimes you lose photos, videos etc. It's a big risk to leave anything on your phone when you are going to have it flash. BACKUP FIRST!!!

  • OJ: How can I transfer my contacts from PC to my phone?? In other theme, you said to Naglia that if you update the firmware all data is lost. Its the same for the factory stuff like ringtones and preloaded images includeed in the phone??

  • To NAGLIA: YES, you WILL lose EVERYTHING when you change the Operating System version so please backup your entire phone contents. You will need a DKU-2 or CA-53 data cable for PC connectivity and you will also need to install Nokia PC Suite in order to backup your phone. I'm always here for you if you need help P.S. You are a female right ?

  • 10x o_j my version is 3.30 so i hope that something can be done. i gave my 6230 to my brother for his birthday and i'm sure he will agree to make a change :). would i lose my phonebook, pictures and music if i change my version?

  • To NAGLIA: I never bothered with the 6230i because it's predecessor was faster overall and turned out to be the best buy in the long run. The main reason why the 6230i is slower is because of the increased screen resolution from 128x128 to 208x208. A higher resolution means more time to redraw images hence the need for a faster processor...unfortunately to keep down cost Nokia decided to stick with the same processor as the original 6230. Some people have said that they are firmware which boosts the speed of 6230i. The first time I held a 6230i in my hands it was quicker than I expected. I checked the firmware and it had v3.62. NAGLIA, if your phone doesn't have that version you can try and get it upgraded to it...or even a later one. Please check and tell me the version firmware that your 6230i uses and tell me. You can check by typing *#0000# in standby mode....that is, the screen where you see the reception and battery indicators. Hope my advice helps you. Looking forward to hearing from you. P.S. I still have my 6230 (smile).

  • o.j. do u know something that can help me

  • hi. i've changed my 6230 for 6230i. 6230i much much slower. can u help me :)? i'll be happy if it's just slower :))

  • well I feel more safe with your opinion about the battery. The only thing I dont know is where are made the 6300s that are sold in Mexico. And thanks in advance if you can find an office document viewer for 6300.

  • To LUIS: The battery is quite fine on the 6300. All you need to ensure is that you have firmware v5.00. I'm very positive if you should purchase a 6300 right now you will get firmware version 5.00 and you will see the extended battery performance, believe me on this one. Where document viewers are concerned, I was able to download a PDF document viewer. I'm sure I will be able to find other document viewers soon or in the near future.

  • TO OJ: Well Im glad to hear that you are happy with your 6300. The battery and the absence of document viewer are the main reasons for why I keep my 6230. Really its my best phone. Even if mine was made in China, for me its the best and I can say is at the same quality than the other 6230s manufactured in other countries. Thanks for let me know about the lag when you open the memory card, but this isnt important to me (I tested a 6600 last week and its really slow). For that reason Im looking for 6120c (which isnt as fast as 6230 or 6300).

  • pls send 6230 format password

  • TO NIDEESH: What's wrong with your 6230 ?

  • how can format my nokia 6230 please help me

  • To LUIS: My 6300 is ok but I haven't abandoned my beloved 6230. In fact I use it every night because by night my 6300 battery is normally finished due to me being on a service where I talk to a particular person all day long...a VIP service here in Jamaica where you pay a flat rate and talk all you want for the month. Normally by the time I get home I have to plug in the 6300 to charge and then I'm back to my trusty 6230. LUIS, funny enough I decided to do a speed test between 6230 and 6300 last night and I tell you, my assumption about the 6300 handling the memory card faster was wrong. I put both of them side by side and pressed both keys simultaneously to see which one would open the memory card faster and the speed on both phones were the same. I have a feeling that the 6230 might open larger folders more quickly though, I am going to put that thought to the test later tonight. I have a 245MB folder on my 6230, I'm going to transfer it to my 6300 and see which phone opens that folder first. I have a feeling the 6230 will win. Even though both phones handle the memory card at similar speeds the 6230 definitely handles the internal memory faster than 6300. For example, when the 6230 is in standby mode and you press the 'Menu' key, the menu appears instantly while the 6300 takes about 1.5 second so while there's no delay on the 6230 there's a slight delay on the 6300. I cannot crucify the 6300 for the slower speed though because we have to remember that there's 16.7 million colours to generate with each press of a key whereas the 6230 have 65,536 colours. In other words if we were to use the 6230's processor in the 6300, the 6300 would move really slow... look at the 6230i which turned out to have a lag in speed because the resolution was increased to 208x208 while the same processor from the original 6230 was used. When there's a change in resolution or colours the processor speed needs to be increased. So all in all the 6300 has a faster processor seeing that it has a 240x320 resolution and 16.7 million colours and yet the speed is right up there with 6230. So the bottomline is that the 6300 has a faster processor than 6230 but when put to the test the 6230 churns out a bit more speed. The difference in speed is nothing to complain about. You have to put both phones side by side and give them a thorough test to see the speed difference. All in all the 6300 is 'basically' as fast as the 6230.

  • I still have this phone. I was going to sold it to my cousin but he preferred to buy a cheap and crappy Motorola so Ill keep it for a little more. A year and eight months after I bought it, still a good phone, its still on sale in my country (Mxico) even if 6230i and 6300 are available too. The price of this phone has dropped down and now it cost 110 usd (it cost me 250 in December'05), only 20 usd. more than a 6080. So here is a great value for a phone like this and so durable. Im still looking for a replacement but simply I cant find it. Waiting for 6120c or a mid level S60, because I want to have office document viewer. But still love this phone and Ill hardly have a better phone than my loyal 6230. Any other recommendation for a replacement??? OJ: How are you with your 6300?

  • its realy nice i love it

  • To BEN: Whenever I visit GSMArena the first place I check is the 6230 forum and then the 6300 forum. So Ben, as you can see, I WON'T turn my back on the 6230 users who need help (smile).

  • To BEN: I got my new 6300 on August 27 but still used the 6230 for calls for a week and a half...until I decided to start using my SIM card in the 6300 last Wednesday (September 6th). BEN I tell you, it's a lovely phone. It handles the memory card faster than the 6230. Where was your friend's 6300 made ? Do you have any idea ? Mine was made in Hungary which is the best way to go. European phones are the best...clearer display, clearer sound . If you get one, you won't imagine having a better phone. You know I love my 6230 and I STILL have it, haven't sold it...yet. I have had the 6230 for more than 2 years...the LONGEST I have ever had a cell phone for. I normally changed my phone in a few months or within a year maximum. When I had the 6230 using I told myself that it would have probably been my last phone...so BEN, for me to switch to 6300 you know it had to impress me enough.

  • To OJ OH WOW u sold ur beloved 6230? wow thats quit a blow. Its been a while since i was last on this forum, but am glad for u. U made a good decsion to buy a 6300 a friend of mine had it and it makes my 6230i look fat and ugly + its totally sleek he had a 2gb card on it how cool is that but unfortunatley he lost it in a club last weekend and it was only 8 weeks old. Do take care of urs and do not desert us here sice u have upgraded... I might just sell my 6230i too to get a 6300 or Sony Ericsson W810i. Cheers

  • TO OJ: Did you already bought 6300?? Or you chose it, but you havent bought it yet?? I think its a good choise, enjoy your new phone, and I hope to see your comments in this 6230 forum, even if you already have 6300 to help people with problems on their 6230s. Im going to sell my 6230 tomorrow or tuesday to one of my cousins so I know itll be in good hands and its for much the best phone I ever had. I was thinking on a replacement and maybe Ill pick 6300 too. 6233 isnt available in my country but maybe im going to wait a little more to see more models to come to my country. If not come any of my interest Ill keep on my mind the idea to buy 6300. Please when you have your first weeks with your 6300 please comment us your experience with it. Maybe that will help me to my decission. thanks in advance

  • To BEN: The biggest debate for the year is whether the 6230 successor's is Nokia 6300 or 6233. It's something that will make your head hurt. I will tell you why I chose the 6300 as my true replacement. First of all the phone is the same as 6230's whereas the 6233 can only accomodate 500 contacts, big downgrade there for me. The 6300 is lighter in weight, 91 grams whereas the 6233 is 110 grams. The 6300 software is MORE enhanced with Feature Pack 2 compared to 6233's Feature Pack 1. The 6300 comes with Macromedia Flash Lite 2.0 whereas 6233 comes with Flash Lite 1.1. MOST OF ALL the 6300's screen BLOWS away the 6233 with 16.7 Million 24 bit true colour compared to 6233's 262,000 colours. Finally it's slimmer and more attractive. I'm NOT saying the 6300 is better than the 6233 in every area, all I'm saying is that I weighed the pros and cons between both devices between both phones and decided to go with the 6300. We all know that with Nokia you give and take when it comes to similarly configured phones but in the end one particular model stands tall. My primary reason and the most important reason for purchasing a phone is the telephony department and the 6300 beats the 6233 with it's 1,000 capacity phone book.

  • Hey Jamaican....nice to hear that at last you have changed your phone. personally i don't think 6300 is a better phone. the battery life is for a day only and camera is not good and the phone becomes hot while talking. i used this model in March 2007 and got rid of it within a month. now i own the slimmest phone in the world i.e. Samsung u100 (5.9 mm) which blows other models. the features that i like on u100 are below: 1. Built in answering machine (which saves money on accessing your voice mail) 2. Reject list (this helps when you don't want receive call/message from someone particular, you can add his no. in the reject list and he/she cannot access you) 3. Whisper mode (this helps when you are in a noisy environment, the person on the other side can hear you voice loud and clear, which i have tried and really works well) 4. Camera is 3.2 mega pixel and video records in Mp4 format. 5. Very wide screen and one will enjoy reading messages. 6. Multiple alarms.

  • The best modern phone replacement for the 6230 is the nokia 6233. It's better than the 6300 because it has stereo speakers and an infra red port. The software on the 6300 is the same as that of the 6233 and they are both s40 3rd edition. They also have similar a screen size and they both have the same features. The best replacement for 6230 is 6233 and not 6300. I'm having trouble with this phone(6230) because I can't delete any of the saved configuration settings. Please if any of us know how to delete this please tell us on this forum. Thanks in advance

  • To the unknown: well, 6120c isnt the newer 6230, but it has a shape and something that remember me the 6230. but for my point of view its the best sucessor for my 6230. And that because Im looking for a phone with S60, and I heard so many good points of this phone. I have read the review, and I love it. great for me, but only waiting for its introduction to Mexican market, but Im almost sure that itll be here because I think itll be a best seller

  • 6120*

  • no, 6210 clasic is 6230 new ver. :)

  • i forgot my security code V 03.17 30-04-04 RH-12 (C) NMP

  • So 6300 has Replaced 6230 ?

  • To CHRISTINA: What LUIS said is worthy of your contemplation but the ONLY phone I saw a real need to get at this moment in time was the 6300. For 2 years I kept my old 6230 because I didn't see anything better to upgrade to...until now. I still have my old 6230 but the 6300 has blown it away...I never thought a phone would astound me after using the legendary 6230. The 6300 has changed that course and has gotten me excited again!!!

  • To Christina: You need to think in some things. First: what type of phone do you want?? If you want a real eye catcher, beauty and top materials phone, there is the 7373. But if you want a phone more serious, classic designed but elegant and with top quality materials too there is the 6300. And well you were talking about the 7373 but if I can suggest one phone to pick up I can suggest you the 6120c. I have heard so many good opinions of this phone and has a good price equivalent to the other two phones (7373 and 6300) and it has Symbian OS and 3.5G but less quality materials. SECOND: The equipment of both phones are very good. All of them have 2mpx camera, 2" 16m color displays, lightweight (specailly 6120c even if its a smartphone), FM radio and mp3, bluetooth 2.0 with A2dp (stereo bluetoth). The three have excellent equipment and the only cmoplain I have of them is the battery life (maybe you will need to charge anybody of them daily or 2 days especially 7373 because its smaller capacity battery)compared to my 6230 which sometimes live 3 days without charge. But if you dont care to have to charge it every day or second day anyone is a good choice. I am really thinking on wait to 6120c or pick the 6300 (and I dont care if I need to charge one of them daily). So its your choice, which phone you prefer. You wont regret anyone of them. Good luck

  • To CHRISTINA: Sorry to hear about your phone but I need to correct you on one thing. The Nokia 6230 wasn't released 4 years ago. It was officially released in April 2004 so it's 3 years since it's release. Instead of going for the 7373 I would suggest you go with the 6300. The Nokia 6300 is said to be the real successor for the 6230. I have my Nokia 6230 as of this writing and I still LOVE my 6230. However, so far, the Nokia 6300 is the BEST selling phone of 2007 and believe me it doesn't take a genius to see why, it has beauty and brains and it's selling like hotbread. Pick up one before everywhere is out of stock. Read this article. It tells about the major sales Nokia have had this year and the Nokia 6300 is one of the MAIN reasons. Hope you found my advice helpful.

  • well, i've had this phone since it first came out, i.e - more than 4 years ago, and i NEVER had any problems with it. i was in love with it from start to finish.. until it fell in some deep water.. and since then it died. i loved that phone more than anything and even before it fell, i was discovering new features on it (i'm a serious cell phone junkie) so that was unbelieveable to me. i love it. you should love it too.. and it lasts a liftime (if only mine did..) now i'm thinking of getting the nokia 7373. is it worth it?

  • Best cellphone ever

  • please can any one tell me how to delete the configurations settings saved on this fon for firm ware v4.4

  • I still enjoy using mine.

  • 1 of the Best Phone's ever Made !

  • Hi there. Can someone tell me if i can fit a 6230i cover to my girlfriend 6230?Just the cover, not the keypad. Thanks

  • To BROOK: Yes it supports 2GB

  • with this nokia killed the competision...

  • the nokia 6230 supports 2GB MMC??????? I have 1GB MMC and my phone run fine

  • I posted you the last comment, I only forgot to put my name xP

  • I reinstalled Opera mini v3.1 in my 6230 and now it works fine. I cant use GPRS, but now my web pages load without problems and I havent to wait a lot of time, even if I only have CSD available. Da best fone, 1 year and 7 months with it, only my original grey with black cover is scatched, but the keypad is still like new and the interface still very fast. A very durable and loyal phone. Do you had problems creating playlists in Nokia Music Manager??? my phone cant recognize them and I have 140+ songs so its too slow to search one song

  • To LUIS: Maybe you are right. Maybe your connection is too slow and you need to wait longer. As you mention that I remember that GPRS is faster. Wait and see what happens.

  • TO OJ: My version is 3.1 too, but my provider in mexico only supports GPRS and EDGE with contract and my phone is a prepaid one. So I cant use GPRS nor EDGE. Do you think that if I uninstall and install again Opera mini on my 6230 would work??? Or you think that maybe my connection is too slow and I need to wait more time to see the web pages??

  • To LUIS: I have Opera Mini on my 6230 and it works fine...worked fine from day one. I use GPRS as that's the only thing my provider supports. Didn't know CSD still existed. What version of Opera Mini are you using ? I'm using 3.1 and previously I used version 2. Both of them works perfectly.

  • I just commented a few minutes before but I have a question to anyone that installed the Opera mini browser in his/her 6230. Did it worked??, because I installed it on my nokia 6230 v5.50 trough data cable transfer and it seems to be ready to work. but when I insert an address or want to search for something it only displays a legend on the lower part of the screen: processing... and 30 seconds latter the data call is finished and it remains processing. Is this normal?? Do I need to wait several minutes to get displayed the web page?? My conection is through CSD only, because the HSCSD and EDGE are only available on contract.

  • TO MAJID: No, you cant use a SD card no matter what the size is on your 6230. it was designed to support MMC cards only and if the size between SD and MMC is the same, the contacts are different, so it didnt work.

  • Please help me can I use sd 512 card in place of mmc card Thanks

  • To MZ: I would go with the 6230 seeing that SMS and calls are your main priority. Let me explain why... The 6230i improves on certain features that the original 6230 has, BUT, a few useful SMS features have also been removed. With the original 6230, when you receive a text message and you choose to reply, you are given templates to reply with or just an empty screen. That is so useful! Some of the options are: Empty Screen Original text Template (where it goes in the main template section for you to choose one of the predefined templates) Yes No and quite a few more to choose from. All of this just by a hit of the 'Reply' command. When you choose reply with the 6230i, you are presented with a blank screen to write your text. Also, the original 6230 is FASTER than the 6230i, especially when accessing the MMC. With the original 6230 being faster, that means you will be able to dial your contacts a tad bit faster. The ORIGINAL NOKIA 6230 is the clear CHOICE MZ.

  • Hi OJ and all other 6230 users, I'm planning to get this phone as my second phone for mainly calls and sms. Should I take this one or pay a little more to get 6230i? I've been using Nokia 6030, and like Nokia for its user-friendly sms function, but 6030 doesn't support MP3 for ringtones. So I'm thinking of getting 6230/6230i... Another choice of mine is Nokia 6111. I just want a Nokia phone with MP3 ringtones and bluetooth. Kindly advise and recommend. Thanks!

  • To JAZZY: Yes it's possible to by a new cover for your phone. Just vist your nearest Cellular sales store, repair shop or Nokia dealer.

  • can i buy a new cover for my 6230 becouse ive broken it..and i'm in need of a new cover!!!help!!!

  • this nokia is just excellent...

  • To SUDIN: 1GB MMC works with 4.28 or 4.40 but it works best with 5.24 and higher. I believe Nokia have an adapter which allows you to use 3.5mm headphones.

  • To BEN: There is NO known application that gives you unlimited recording time and the N70 supports more colour and has a higher resolution so photos will look clearer on it compared to the 6230 screen. The 6230 handles video more smoothly because it's a faster phone, much faster than the N70.

  • To BROOK: Your 6230 supports 1GB. I have v5.24 and my Trandscend 1GB works perfectly.

  • To RESH: Do a factory reset and see if that helps. If that doesn't work, do a factory reset again and immediately take the battery out of the phone while it is on. If none of the above doesn't work you may have to get it flashed.

  • To BEN: Take out the SIM and MEMORY CARD and see if it comes on without them. If it still doesn't work you could try a different battery. If none of the above works then the best solution would be to get it flashed. Flashing can solve booting problems. If flashing doesn't work then I'm afraid your phone probably died.

  • Hi o.j. & all users. I have a little problem with this fon. 2 days ago, when i put on the fon, the screen was just black and this has been so for the past 1 week. What is wrong with it. Any soln?

  • hi there. My fone is acting strange... My serial number shows as 0000000000000. Why is this? and my gprs settings won't activate yet it shows "activated". Please e-mail me. Thanks

  • Sorry, the version of my nokia 6230 is 5.50

  • I have nokia 6230 version 5.53 It supports 1Gb MMc? I know nokia 6230 version 4.40 not supports 1Gb. You can help me???

  • Hi o.j. and fellow users. Does any of u know the code for flashin this phone? I have tried *#7780# but all though it restored the factory settings. It didnt erase the viruses on my friends 6230. We desperately need help so if there is any code like that plse help us.

  • Hi O.J. and all 6230 users and fans, i have some comments to make about this fons display and camera quality. Recently, i copied some of the pics i took to my fathers n93 & i was surprised at the pics quality. It looked superb. I also copied a pic from the n93 to my fon and the pic quality wasnt what i expected. It was as if I'd takin the pic with my fon. I concluded that the bigger the screen, the clearer or the better the pic quality. Also i had an opportunity of handlin the n70 and comparin the videos, i saw that the n70, even though very clear, it has breakages like a motorola cam. For this fon, i saw no breakages but the quality wasnt very clear. I want to know where i can get an app on this fon that can give me unlimited video recording and better recording quality like how the opera mini browser used to browse. Can any one help me?

  • wy this nokia is god by have multi fuckcionen col music audi by the nokia 6230i is the best nokia im albanian (nokia ma i miri)

  • Hi to all N 6230 fans out there. And hats off to original jamaican. I was the user of N6230. I had loved it. Especially its music. I used it as my mp3 player. As i want to use next phn again n again, I exchangd it with Nokia 7610. Its fine bt 6230 is way ahead. Now i want to go back to 6230. My fren has gt one. So i am trying to purchase it frm him. I enjoyd reading ur thnking of 6230 classic. I agree in that too. Nokia should think about it. I thnk 2 mp camera, big screen same design n keypad, 256 k color, bluetooth stereo headset, themes change, msg memory change, office files like word excel powerpoint zip, etc. should b in it. N now i got sum question to original jamaican. It may b had discussd b4 but u knw i hav not been in this forum for so long. How can we duplicate messages, does it support 1gb memory card ( i used 512mb before), can i use 3.55 mm jack for the headset using adapter? Pls answer my question. Thanx in advance. Waiting for ur reply.

  • the other thin is that it will state that phone memory is full while there is a space on the folders(Why?) And it does not resieve sum images from other phones.

  • can u pliase help me to use mp3. it does nt appear in my phones menu. nokia 6230

  • To BROOK: I have a few people from this forum express their feelings towards the W810 in comparison to 6230 and each time the 6230 was the said to be the better phone.

  • Thanks Original_Jamaican. It's the best smal phone nokia and the most complete some SEw810, but nokia is better.

  • To BEN: A little correction. Where I said "I have not used" should be "I have used"

  • To BEN: My phone DOESN'T have a 'certificates' menu so that simply means you phone uses a older firmware. I have not used 4.44, 5.24. 5.35 and 5.50 and never came across that particular menu. I use Opera Mini too. It's a wonderful browser. What would be more wonderful right now is if our NETWORK PROVIDER gave us free internet access (smile).

  • To JOENAVS: The Nokia 6230 can handle up to 2GB but it would be best to have firmware v5.24 or later otherwise a 2GB MMC might be glitchy. The only way to really improve the quality of video recording is by transferring the recording to a PC, then use a 3gp software like Nokia Multimedia Converter 2.0 or Allok Video to 3G Converter. Set the bitrate to a minimum of 128kbps. Nokia Converter 2 maxes out at 128kbps and Allok maxes out at 512. Once you set it to 128 or higher you should see a discernable difference...in some cases you may not but try my suggestion. Hope this works out for you.

  • To BROOK & HILDEBRANDO: YES the Nokia 6230 supports 512MB and 1GB MMC memory cards. If you search back earlier posts you will see where I went in-depth many times about this same topic. Search away for more info (smile).

  • Hi o.j. and fellow 6230 users, the security module i was talkin about can be found when u go to menu>service>settings>security settings> certificates. I know use my phone to browse this website and i use opera mini browser. Browsing on this phone is very fast and i like that but i prefer the opera browser to the phone's browser because with the opera, it compresses the kbs & gives a clearer view of how the pages look like. Also, i listen to music using my nokia bh 200 headset so i dont know the use of the AD2P profile. My phone was made in 4-2004.

  • Dear jamaica, i've been reading your reviews with 6230..honestly i think it's the best nokia phone ever! i have mine for 2.5 yrs now, and it still runs like brand new! i just have 2 question: first, what's the maximum MMC memory it can handle? (256, 512, or 1 gb?) i upgraded mine with 128 mb...with 53 music tracks in ti (AAC format). second, how can i improve the quality of my video recording? is there a software upgrade available? thanks in advance, regards, joenavs

  • yes! another thing...6230's got the best and the fastest responding keyboard/pad in planet GSM...i love this phone so much...i know it's going to be a classic. i hope nokia will release a special limited edition 6230 classic soon...i'm dying for one! but for the moment...i'm not trading my 2.5 year-old 6230 for anything, i might buy a new phone, but this old buddy's gonna stay with me forever! this is the best phone i've ever had (though not the most expensive)...congratulations! nokia... 6230 is king!

  • hey! i love this phone! for me it's one of the best phones nokia built...it's small, simple sleek design. it's like a BENZ in cars..simple,yet classy! it's way ahead of it's time...it's easy to use..and it responds quiet fast! (faster than most modern phones - even faster than N70, my wife has one)...i had this for 2.5 yrs now, and i'm not planning of replacing it! EVER!

  • please , i need to know what memory card use that phone and what is that maximun . 1gb ? or 512 mb?thank you

  • hey, this phone can supports 1gb or 512mb memmory cards???? help me please!!!!!!!!

  • To BEN: You ask some tough questions. First of all, NO, NO, NO all files received through bluetooth or Infrared, is automatically saved in the phone memory. Secondly I very much doubt you will be able to find a 3rd party player capable of playing mp4s as the format wasn't hardwired in the phone. However, I should note that some MP4 files will work BUT it has to have H.263 tracing in it. For example you can use a program to encode a file in MP4 format but you would have to encode it using a codec called H.263 otherwise it WON'T work with the 6230. Thirdly I don't know what 'Security Module' you are talking about. Where did you here about this ?

  • Hi o.j and all 6230 users, I've got some questions about this fon I'd like u to answer. Can i save received bluetooth items directly on to my memory card without using the fon's memory? If yes how? Also, is there any app that i can install on my fon to play mp4s. Finally, what is security module and how do i access it.

  • To RUSSELL: You did NOT read the accessories page carefully. The link I sent you was a direct link showing the accessories the 6230 supports. The VERY FIRST accessory on the page is a BLUETOOTH WIRELESS HEADSET. In fact, almost all the accessories on that page is a bluetooth headset. Check again.

  • Thanx OJ for ur reply!!! i checked the compatibilty list and it seems that it doesnt support wireless bluetooth headsets!! but it i guess it has a facility to insert an audio adapter with the help of which one can connect any 3.5mm headset into the 6230:) !!

  • To RUSSELL: 1. To connect to external speakers you would need an adapter. Check Nokia's site for the necessary adapter at: That Nokia website link is a direct link for 6230 accessories 2. I should think the 6230 supports stereo bluetooth wireless headsets BUT you CAN'T play music through a bluetooth headset due to the lack of a bluetooth profile called A2DP...which is acceptable for this phone seeing that it was released over 3 years now. Once again, check Nokia 6230 accessories page for compatible bluetooth headsets.

  • hey buddies i have two queries abt this phone!!! 1. how can i connect my 6230 to my audio player such that it would able to play songs frm the audio system speakers??? 2.Does this phone support stereo wireless bluetooth headsets??? Thanx in advance!!!

  • The NOKIA 6230 CAN REWIND and FAST FORWARD music. While in the player, press and hold up to rewind and press - hold down to fast forward. It took me a while to find out and I didn't see any mention of it in the manual.

  • The Best Upgrade for 6230 are: Nokia 6233 Nokia 6300

  • Why nokia 6230 can't fast forward or rewind music? anyway this phone is the best because my phone is almost 2 years old. I love Nokia

  • i love this phone! i had this for 3 years and i dropped it so many times on concrete and water and it still works fine. i love the mp3 player even though it kinda sucks on the sound but its pretty good. the only bad thing is its too fat and the camera is not the best and i need to upgrade. does anyone know any other nokia, sony ericsson, or samsung phone thats like this phone but better looking and slimmer?

  • This is one of Nokia's all time best creations. I vote this phone as being the best of the best, during it's time.

  • its Ok My Cousin Does Not Want the Playlist Anymore

  • O_J This May sound Odd But My Cuzin has got a 6230 and he Want's a Playslist for His Music Player What's it Called ?? M3U or something ? becuase he's got a 1GB in his 6230 and is Sick of scrolling through his Song's Lol so can you please tell what to do ? Thank's in Total Advance My Email Adress is [email protected] and im 16 Year's Old !! if you didnt Know

  • I listen to music with my nokia bh200 bluetooth headset

  • No man.....the battery is kinda OK but one negative point about this phones is the SOUND....first 6 monts the sound is very clear but after that it sucks.......so before buying think about the SOUND!!!..........

  • 786, Thank you and big up.

  • Yh Video's Fill The Screen

  • To 786: You mentioned the pictures filling up the entire display of the 6300. How about the videos ? Do the videos fill up the entire display as well ?

  • Jude Yh thats 1 Thing i Forgot to say the Battery life on 6300 is the Worst OJ you are going to have to be Ready for Charging it Everyday My 6233 Last's 3-4 Day's Maximum 4 days - without MP3's ,Camera 2 days - with camera and mp3's 6300 will perform abit less economical reason:16M Display

  • To OJ The pictures on the 6300 fill up the entire display... The phone is also a dedicated picture viwer stunning but i still feel that it is comprimised eg no vga video like 6233< horrid batery life coz of the fabulous display(to power draining), and limited internal memory ... The speaker is preety loud u will not be lacking in loudeness... Oh yeah this is from personal experince... Sorry 786... Cheers

  • Thank's OJ i did Know about This Feature Pack thing But didnt Know what version the 6233 had Thank's for that ! 6300 is Saw One Yesterday and Dayumm It Look's so Nice the Design is To Goood and The Camera Perform's Better then 6233's and That's Becuase of the 16M Colour Display it Make's a Big Difference !

  • 786...I know the 6300 has certain features which the 6233 doesn't have, one of the reasons is the 6233 use feature pack 1 whereas the 6300 uses feature pack 2.

  • OJ ooooPs sorry well 6233 and 6300 are sister Phone's so 6300 will have the same Basic Function's maybe Even More then 6233 6300's Function's have been Improved from 6233 like for e.g. 6233 does NOT have FW/RWD video but 6300 Does Defanatly

  • To 786: When you first told me about photos & videos filling up every inch of the 6300's screen I thought you told me all this based on experience when you used the phone, now I realise all this is based on assumption.

  • Yes, i get your Point OJ the 6230i is the same Loudness as 6230 its Just 6230i has improved sound quality on it But the 6230 Speaker is all Mushy Sounds but 6230i is Clearer but then 6233 came and is now the Loudest on the Market and im Sure 6300 will not be as Loud becuase it has 1 Speaker Not 2 like 6233 . And again on My 6233 the Video's and Photo's are Viewed with Every Inch of the Screen so im sure it is the Same on 6300 !!

  • I just upgraded frm 6230 to 6230i.Gud f0ne also but is it true, dat the 6230 is l0uder than the 6230i in l0udspeaker?Or my l0udspeaker is weak c0z its 2ndhand,have mine v3.40.Wat are the bugs here

  • To 786: The reason I asked about the loudness of the speaker is because the 6230i ISN'T as loud as the original 6230. The reason I asked about the videos/photos filling every corner of the screen is because, when viewing a video/picture on the 6230, right below the video you see , and and right below the picture you see , and . Because of that videos and photos didn't fill up every area of the 6230's screen. If the 6300 does indeed utilise every inch of the screen when watching videos or viewing photos then it should be a joy experiencing multimedia on the 6300. Thanks for your input, 786.

  • OJ The Photo's and Video's Fill the Screen Corner to Corner when viewed Vertically and Horizontally !!

  • OJ Yes, the Photo's and Video's can all Be Viewed Vertically on 6300

  • OJ Yes, ofcourse the 6300 will Play them Louder! and lol People do Not no the difference Between MONO & STEREO the 6300 has 1 SPEAKER but obviously its Output is STEREO things These Day's are Never MonoPhonic only STEREO

  • To JUDE & 786: When viewing videos & photos can they be viewed in full screen where the video/photo fills up every corner of the screen ? The 6230 plays media files loud! Does the 6300 plays them louder ? Some say the 6300 has a mono speaker. Does it sound like mono OR stereo to you guys ? I didn't get enough time to give the 6300 a thorough test when I was able to get my hands on one. Thanks for your input.

  • This is complete nokia. Though i wonder why some songs stored on the memory card can't be registered on the media player.

  • To JUDE: Thank you so much for that information. Both photos and videos can be viewed horizontally right ? I had no idea about the FF/RWD feaure, especially watching videos horizontally...I would never have guessed that was possible. The horizontal feature is a nice move because sometimes you need to see a picture/video horizontally more than vertically, especially if the photo/video is more landscape oriented than portrait oriented. A big advantage with the horizontal feature overall is no or minimal zooming for wide angle photos/videos. Even when I get the 6300, I will still be resident here helping others because this is where the revolution started. In many ways the 6230 will ALWAYS be king of the cellular world.

  • its truly a unique phone the best of it s kind

  • To OJ Yeah u can forward and rewind videos and watch the full screen horizontally on the 6300

  • To MIG: No you cannot use the Bluetooth headset for music because it doesn't not support the A2DP profile.

  • Hey can we listen to the mp3 player tru blutut of the blutut headset is just for calling here in 6230.OJ pls rply

  • Thanks 786 & JUDE. Until I get the 6300 I'm still having fun with my 6230. Still in a class by itself.

  • Yeah the date and time remain even when the baterry is removed so does my 6230i, it has a music player from the xpress music line and its as good as sony ericsson walkman phones and the loudspeaker is loud but am not sure weatehr u can hear a diff wen u adjust the equalizer wen u listen 4rm the speaker, U should be able to forward videos and rewind them as well coz this is a new phone Nokia has ought to have adressed the limitations of older phones like the 6230 Its also should be fast coz my 6230i with firmware 3.88 is very fast so much faster than my freinds 6230i with 3.44 its unbelivable About the Mem card am not sure u may check them out at a nokia dealer and go through the phone.... Cheers hope i could help PS The display & looks alone is worth considering the phone alone

  • Original_Jamaican Yes, the Date and Time all Stay Intact. Well My 6233 Does Not support Forward and Rewind Video. But i Heard 6300 Does Becuase it Has Macromedia Flash Lite 2.0 which allow's it.and 6300 has a Built in Video Player like Sony Ericsson's so the Video's can be forward and rewinded. Yes, the Equaliser in 6300 the LoudSpeaker the Difference Can be Noticed.same through the Headset the difference can be noticed when equalised. Hmm...Now This is a different Story When i Open the Memory card (microSD)1GB in My 6233 its Fast but Somehow it Feel's Lagging Something .But 6300 has a Newer Tweaked Interface compared to 6300 so it Should be Faster !?!?. Yes, the microSD is Way Quicker then the MMC when Transfering and recieving File's and it Does'nt Really Matter even if you have a 2GB in 6300 it WONT Slow Down. My 6233 Feeel's the Same Even When i have My 1GB in. I Think This is Becuase of the 3RD EDITION interface.

  • To 768 & JUDE: With the 6300, does the date and time stay intact when you remove the battery ? Also, does the video player support Fast Forward and Rewind ? How about the 7 band equalizer, aftering fine tuning it, do you hear a difference when playing music through the loudspeaker ?...with the 6230 you would have to listen to the music through the headset before noticing a difference. When going through the menus and opening files etc. is the speed faster than 6230 ? How about memory card speed, do you find the transflash (MircoSD) to be faster than MMC Plus, also, is there a big difference between phone speed and memory card speed ?

  • and as for INFARED if you Want it get 6233 !!

  • 1 More Thing Original_Jamaican if You Want Pop Port Get 6233 Since 6300 Does NOT have it

  • Forgot 1 Thing: 6300 has Bluetooth A2DP Profile - 6230 Does NOT

  • Original_Jamaican My 6233 has Bluetooth Printing iv Never Used but iv Tested it .Its Great !! Right 6230 Over 6300 i Can Tell You 6300 has Bluetooth V2.0 - 6230 does NOT 6300 has 2MP cam - 6230 VGA 6300 has a QVGA display - 6230 Does NOT 6300 has 3rd Edition - 6230 NOT 6300 has QCIF video - 6230 VGA video(same as 6233) 6300 has miniUSB - 6230 Pop Port 6300 is Slim - 6230 is Meaty 6300 Weigh's 92g - 6230 97g 6300 has Metal Plating - 6230 Plastic 6300 is New - 6230 OLD !! There You Go Listed Difference's between 6230 vs 6300 BIG difference

  • Wat firmware versi0n of 6230 supp0rts m4a s0und files?Pls help,i want to kn0w.Even th0ugh i want to swtch my f0ne,its very c0ol to have 6230 in my p0cket.Pls help me h0w to play m4a files.Can i ask where can i find m0vies that are .Avi?Wat are the f0rmats of m0vies in the VCD and DVD?What are they 4mats.S0ri im a beginner.I want to watch m0vies here.Hey oj help me.N0kia multimedia can c0nvert avi to 3gp but i cant find avi m0vies on my vcd and dvd.Help me pls.Where exactly in g0ogle i can d0wnl0ad all0k 3gp?Im having a hard tym,pls help me

  • To 786: I'm glad to hear that 6300 supports bluetooth printing. Have you actually tried the feature on a bluetooth printer ? Other than infrared, what does 6230 have over the 6300 ?

  • Yes ,6300 Does Support Bluetooth Printing and 6300 Does also Support PicBridge application O_J well i have played with a 6300 to it look's Sexy and Nice i Love the miniUSB Port but after i played with 6300 i played with a 6230 and i have to say 6230 has something which 6300 Does not have But Overall 6300 is a Nice New Phone

  • To 786 & JUDE: DO you know if the 6300 supports bluetooth wireless printing. I know it supports PictBridge but bluetooth printing would be even cooler, no need for cables.

  • To JUDE: I read it faster than you think (smile). I used the 6300 once, just for about 5 mins. It does feel great in the hand. It has a real solid feel. I do agree that it has some impressive modern features like being able to support almost all audio and video formats etc. It may be the best upgrade from a 6230 BUT the 6230 still has a little edge over it due to infrared, other than that the 6300 excels over the 6230. I love my 6230 and really don't want to change but the time is dawning for me to change it. The 6230 is the longest phone I ever had going 2 years come July 17th...whereas previously I would change my phones within a few months or 1 year maximum! The 6230 won't last on this earth forever BUT it will always be remembered as the king of all cellular phones.

  • Origninal_Jamaican im Located in UK ,England hmmm, well 6300 is a Better Upgrade if you are changing from 6230 so best of luck!! well as you should Know Nokia have Made the Series 40 3rd Edition Platform so the whole INTERFACE has been Overhauled so the Battery and Reception indicator's But as you Know i have a 6233 with that 3rd Edition interface and Once you get Used to it the Indicator's for Reception,Battery feel Better were they are Placed. im Used to it and i acchewly Think its a Better Place for the Battery indicator's the Nokia 6230i was the Last Phone with the Reception and Battery indicator's on the sides in the Tradional Nokia Style .they needed to Change it Because Sony Ericsson's Moto's Samsung's are in the Same Place !! Trust me You will Start Liking the Platform Reception and Battery indicator's in the New 3rd edition Platform !! CYA O_J

  • 786 my friend, where in the world are you located ? I'm seriously considering the Nokia 6300 and thank you for reminding me of that phone. I don't think I will give up my 6230 though. 786, the only think I would have liked is if Nokia had stuck to their traditional reception and battery meters, with the strokes from top to bottom. I don't really like the battery diagram which is mostly found on Sony Ericsson, Samsungs and Motorolas. I noticed that all new Nokia phones have this new battery and reception indicators, part of the series 40 version 3 interface. 786, do you have any idea why Nokia couldn't stick to the original indicators ? I have been searching all over the internet without finding an answer.

  • YO YO YO - OJ i think they already made a 6230 clone - that's 6233 and even that cant top 6230 in terms of speed and robostness BTW im still hunting for a 6230 cant find any i have kind off reserved one !!

  • Is there anything else anybody would like to add to the Nokia 6230 Classic phone ?

  • Just to add a few more things to the laundry wishful specs. of a 6230 classic: According to Wikipedia, the Nokia 6100 was said to be the lightest Nokia phone weighing 76 grams.

  • Since Nokia is in the classic mood this year (3110 classic / 3109 classic / 6120 classic) maybe they could create a 6230 classic...even though it may sound a bit ironic seeing that the 6230 was meant to be a classic phone. Nevertheless they could add the term 'classic' to differentiate it from the original. Now that is what I would call a top of the line classic multimedia phone. Who out there agrees and would like to see a 6230 classic with these features ? Hands up (smile).

  • As an opinionist from here said, this phone is the base of all advanced phones. Every phone is compared and judged to this!

  • Nokia went all out with this phone and now they are finding it hard to top this masterpiece.

  • still the best cellular phone to date!!!

  • hi 6230 fans i sold my 6230 for sony ericsson k750i and i regretted. i couldnt sleep that night because thoughts of that fon was haunting me. i decided to go for the 6230i and it was even more terrible than i thought. ive gone back for by 6230 and i must say it is the best mobile phone in the world in terms of simplicity, speed and user friendliness. it also comes first in the loudness of its speaker. having compared it loudness to the walkman fones isay this is the best. so if you are thinking of selling your 6230, you might consider changing your mind because thoghts of this fone may haunt you for life.

  • It is even faster than 6230i. Those who would not believe - Java benchmark v1/v2: 6230 - 1983 | 239, 6230i - 1394 | 147.

  • This device is simply fantastic! I have used mine for long period and I was very satissfied! Afterwards I got k750i and I am so sorry for giving my mobile fiend to my family. Than I got N5140i as my second phone, the new software is fine but I am disappointed with the phones speed. I am going to get my 6230 back. I have used totally round 35-40 phones and this one is the best. I have to admit that now the photo quality is not sufficient, but I do not consider it important. The speed of the menu navigation is excellent, calendar awesome, MMC slot although not hot-swappable is handy because the cards got so cheap, only the stand-by time could be better. To sum it up, great phone, most user-firnedly device I have ever held in my hand. BTW it is great feeling to hold it..lol Greetings to Jamaican, you are right my pal:D

  • To FASIAL: What I normally do is turn the phone off and then back on to delete stubborn files.

  • how can i delete the file from phone memory, when i want to delete it says that its read only file, the file type is avi, can any one help me plz,............

  • why i cant download pc suite in nokia?///????

  • To MIG: I have NEVER seen a theme for the Nokia 6230 and don't think it's possible to work either. The phone will only play some Mp4 files, you just have to try various files and see which works. Basically, only 3GP encoded with MP4 codec will work...100% Mp4 files won't work. Get a program called Allok 3GP Video Converter and you will see what I mean. Do a search on Google for Allok 3GP Video Converter and download it. 5.50 is still the latest according to the sources I have checked.

  • TO MATTHEW Trust me.Once you own a 6230 its NOT boring its get a 1GB-512MB

  • Where can i find mp4 f0r 6230?It says unable to open, help me oj.And also b0ut themes and the v.5.50.Is it stil the latest?

  • To MATTHEW: You may be a Sony Ericsson fan or Motorola fan who decided to come in this forum to put down one of the world's finest phone. The phone is more advanced than you think. People who's NOT technologically minded will think it's simple. It's a versatile phone compared to other phones. Music Player which supports MP3 encoded at any bit-rate meaning it can go as far as 384kps or CD-Quality...many phones CAN'T play such high bit rates! The music player supports Fast Forward/Rewind and it even has support for M3U playlist. Nokia 6230 supports videos encoded in H.263 or even MPEG-4. Supports streaming videos, supports 1GB or 2GB standard MMC, MMC Plus!, MMC Mobile, RS-MMC and any other MMC on the planet. Java can communicate with internal features and so much more!!! You are ignorant to this phone.

  • its a simple ,fine,easy to use h/set , don't complaint pls...

  • I want to know if there is a free program that makes nokia 6230 work as a remote control for tv??

  • To Matthew: Remember that this phone is a 3 years old one. You say that because maybe your uncles and aunties don`t use 100% of the features of this phone. I really think that if you put a bigger card in it (maybe your relatives still have the 32mb included card)and put some music and videos in it you will see a very good phone(not boring) that was a very advanced phone in that time and has better features than some actual phones.

  • Omg...so many of my aunties and uncles have this phone...its so boring...and its too simple...for people who cannot manage hi-tech features lol..

  • 0j,wats the impr0vement in v5.50?Wat blututheadset is c0mpatble with ths f0ne?My transcend is rs dv mmc,n0t mmc plus,made in k0rea,1gb.Great f0ne,as i have in other f0rums,they say themes are applicable wth 6230 n0t only in 6230i.Cn u pls c0nfirm br0?And also mp4?

  • To BENG: You are right. The best Nokia ever!

  • for three years i had 2 6230`s,the first one i lost, and the second bought from a friend.now from the store had told me that the can`t fix it.As i look thru` all the Nokia models i just can`t find something simple and beutifull as this 6230.Call me oldfashioned but this is the best phone 4 me.Mp3 ringtones and phone that fit my arm and comes in handy for sms writing. The best Nokia ever.

  • The date/time problem of this phone is the issue of all 6230 phones (and others too, like 3310). The reason is the built-in capacitor needed to run clock on the phone while the battery is removed. This capacitor is too small, keeping the clock running for only couple of seconds after the battery removal. I've learned how to replace the SIM card without loosing the clock. It's simple, but requires a bit of practice.

  • Hi OJ, I hav a problem with N 6230,ie , whenever i switch off my phone and take out the battery and put it back , and then switch on, it asks for time and date. Is this the same happening with all 6230s or is there any problem with the one i use. Also can u tell me is there any way to upgrade my firmware(to vs5.5) apart from reaching Nokia Customer care. Thanks in advance.

  • I love this phone. I've had it for two years now and had dropped and accidentally stepped on it for several times now, but it still works perfectly! I don't understand why some people have problems with it. But if you want a high quality camera and mp3/radio, this is might not be the phone for you. I suggest purchasing a basic phone (that would let you talk for several hours), then purchase an mp3 and a digital camera.

  • Oj,the label of my transcend is c0l0r green, made in china.I l0ss 21mb,thats why im asking. Is it a better ch0ice to switch to 6230i?Pls update us oj every 2 m0nths b0ut the latest firmware,is it 5.50 the latest dis tym?Wats the diff.Between 5.24 and 5.50?Wat bugs are fix?Im regreting i didnt buy 2gb rs dv mmc but instead 1gb.D0 6230i can handle 1gb lyk 6230 wth0ut any pr0bs?I f0und a cyt whch hales 6230i.Br0wse it in prodigits. co . uk with n0 spaces. Are der any trx f0r 6230 oj?Can u teach us pls.Why is it mp4 and m4a cant be open? • To JUDE: Send me your e-mail address and I will send a document covering playlists and more. You can then share your new found knowledge with the others.

  • Thank you PREM, I try my best to help people in need.

  • hi OJ i am back after couple of months to this section and nice to see that you are still there and your excellent advise for the needy. keep it up.

  • Sorry meant to say sole not sold........ Pliz post ur reply...... Thanks

  • Hi all 6230 users i would like to know how many of you use your phone as your sold mp3 player or if you have a stand alone player which you use 2 supplement ur phone? Cheers

  • To OJ Hey there can we really create playlists on this phone of ours pliz reply..... thanks

  • To VISHESH : To update your phone to a later Operating System (firmware) visit your local Nokia Centre or take it to a repair shop. YES, Nokia PC Suite works supports bluetooth. Just go to the Connection Manager to set it up.

  • To BEN: The best program for high quality videos is ALLOK VIDEO TO 3GP CONVERTER. Visit www.Alloksoft.com for a free download. Tell me your e-mail address and I will send it to you along with instructions as how to install it without an hassles. Your phone is virus free UNTIL you put an infected file on it. If you do put an infected file on it you many have to flash the phone again for it to become stable.

  • hi jamaican actually i hv a n6230 with v3.15 wer can i gt an upgrade? and does nokia pc suite work with bluetooth ports?

  • O_J i would like to know if this phone is virus free

  • whats up o_j this is Ben. i just read yr advice and have decided to go for the 6230i. is it better? Also could you teach how to encode my videos to high quality dvd type at high quality

  • To BEN: You are DEAD WRONG about one thing...you CAN Fast Forward and Rewind MUSIC with the 6230. First you have to be in the Music Player, then while the song is playing press and hold the 'UP' key to Rewind and hold the 'DOWN' key to FAST FORWARD. I will admit, not many people know about the RWD/FWD feature where MUSIC is concerned. You are right about one thing though, you can't fast forward videos and the 6230 can't play direct MPEG4 videos but it can play 3GP videos encoded with MPEG4 codec. I don't have a problem with 3GP. I encode my videos at high quality and they are somewhat comparable to DVD quality BUT encoding at high quality takes up a lot of memory! You may want a bigger screen but when you watch videos encoded at very high quality, it makes you forget about the screen size. Remember the saying 'Size doesn't Matter' (smile). On the issue of java games, that can be a tricky situation. First of all some games won't work if no memory is left in the phone after installing as some games rely on memory to work, especially games which have a save feature like a Role Playing Game (RPG). Also, some games won't work due to data transfer error...which can be resolved be re-installing the game again. Thirdly, if you already have a game installed and you install that same game WITHOUT deleting the first one that was installed, then the newly installed one won't work. You have to be careful, some games may be the same but have different names, for example, you may install Mario and then install another file called Mario2...in some cases it's could be Maria part 2 and in other cases it could be a 2nd link to Mario part 1. Just bear my tips in mind when installing games. The camera may be a VGA one but it takes clearer pictures than some megapixel cameras. Just ensure that you have firmware 5.24...start snapping and see the results. If you really really want to change your phone I wouldn't advise the 3230. First of all it's a Symbian phone aka smart phone aka Series 60 (s60). These phones are usually BIG, HEAVY and SLOW. What makes things worse is that the 3230 is said to be buggy...which isn't necessarily Nokia's fault but a fault on the Symbian Operating System which is not a platform that Nokia created. Nokia gets a licence to use the Symbian OS on these smart phones but in most cases these phones get more complaints than praises. The only advantage with the Symbian phones is that it's an open platform which means you can install a whole lot of software on it. For example, you can install a zoom software which you can use to zoom your photos a lot of times. You can also install softwares which can give you a longer recording time, stuff like that but in the end you may get fed up with the bulkiness, heaviness and slowness. Take my advice, leaving from a 6230 to a 3230 will feel like switching from a Concorde to a Submarine. If you want a very large screen and more video/audio support then check out the Nokia 6300, a brand new 2007 phone which was recently released. GSMArena has done a review on it too, check the specs. and read the review. Hope you found my advice useful. Take care. O.J.

  • To MIG: Videos CANNOT be Fast Forwarded or Rewinded. Just think of it being a cinema, you have to watch the video from start to finish. The latest firmware is 5.50 but I prefer 5.24 for many reasons. Maybe your Transcend is a regular MMC and not MMC Plus like mine. Take out the MMC and tell me everything that label says. Also what colour is your MMC's label ?

  • Y is it im only havng a 978.5?I have v5.24 als0.Do videos can be 4ward or rewind?H0w pls.Wats the latest firmware?

  • To MIG: I have a Transcend 1GB MMC Plus. It says 991.2MB.

  • To MUE MUTETI: If you changed your battery more than once and the same thing keeps happening try changing your charger. use a different charger and see if the results is better.

  • To BEN: You are DEAD WRONG about one thing...you CAN Fast Forward >> and Rewind

  • Tnx oj,im using a 1gb transcend.Great.But the mem says 978.5mb only.Wats urs?21mb is a l0t to0.H0w to duplicate txt msgs?Tel s0me trix b0ut 6230.Tnx

  • Hi.ve a problem with my Battery. It does not support me the whole day after charging. What can I do, or can you guys replace or lend me one? Ve replaced twice so far. Thanks

  • to O_J this is ben. i want to trade in this phone for the 3230 because this phone has a very small screen and not compatible with some java games and also does not play mpeg4 videos. The worse of it all is that when listening to music or playing a 3gp video u cant forward or rewind it. it alsio has a poor camera. i really need yr advice O_J

  • This is a hevy fne!! i love it so much! it has everything i need..wiked!...i advice u of getin dis fne x

  • this is just the perfect fne for me..!! i luv it!!

  • To LUIS: Yes, the 6230 is a loud phone. Some say it's loud as a walkie-talkie.

  • thanks, Original_Jamaican. I can see that you know a lot of things about this phone. I didn`t finished to talk about my phone. And that is because there is a lot of things in this phone and it is so durable. My first nokia phone and I hope to have more of this excellent manufacturer. I can`t find a better phone to replace my old but still excellent 6230. I remember when I was with a friend (it has a sony w810) and my phone defeated his phone in terms of loud. My phone`s speaker is louder than his w810!!! Maybe not so clear but for teenagers it doesn`t matter that. It matters the volume and my 6230 is louder. Yeahh!!

  • To LUIS: For a foreigner, your English was excellent. Cheers to you.

  • First: I want to apologize for my Englsh. I`m foreign (Mexico) I want to say some things about my best phone (6230). When I first saw 6230 I always considered a phone that I never be able to buy (like Original Jamaican). And now I have a year and 4 months with it and still an excellent phone. I remember when I bought this phone so clear (I was considering to buy this phone or a k700i) but I am very pleased with this phone and I`m very sure that I make the right decision. I remember that I was 15 when I bought this phone (maybe a little immature to have a phnoe like this) but if I reutrn to past I would buy it again. It was my first phone and I am very sure of that (I had a siemens c65 and a pntech gb310) but it is the best. I dropped so many times (more than 20) and it still alive.

  • This phone has so many features every day you learn something new about it. Yesterday I learnt how to make duplicate text messages, as many as the memory permits. I just love this phone!!!

  • thanks o.j.

  • playlists......

  • To BEN: Ok, you have 4.44 which is good enough but NOT the very best. To see the TRUE advantage of Nokia 6230 please update your firmware to 5.24. You will appreciate the enhancements it has to offer...one of the best enhancement is higher quality pictures from the camera. To update it visit your local Nokia Centre or take it to a repair shop. Hope you get through. Take care and all the best. O.J.

  • hi there origional_jamaican ive check the firmware and it is v04 44 21-09-04 RH-12 GSM P1. 1 (c) NMP

  • To BEN: To check your firmware simply type *#0000# in standby mode...that is the screen where you see the battery and antenna signal indicators.

  • how can i check the firmware preset on my fone

  • Aar0n,r u sure?H0ws d f0ne reading a 2gb?Are u sure?

  • Hi u can use a 1gig card depending on the firmware-software which you have preset on your fone im now using a 2gig thnxx to original jamaican who told me about this,so check ure firmware and post back thanks aaron

  • have been using this gadget for some time now and id like to know it this device supports mpeg videos apart from 3gp.also can someone out there tell me if this machine is compatible with a 1 gig MMC card

  • yes, i have pc suite and dku cable....

  • my first question was wrong..... i ment, how can i make my own playlists? i don't wanna listen to all tracks in my phone.....

  • O-J seems like the perfect phone if you are gonna get a phone is 6300 this is the problem i have with my 6233 the phone book memory only 500 iv already run out of memory on it and now iv switched back to my 6230i becuase it has 1000 im thinking of selling 6233 its just NOT perfect for me Nokia phones are going abit down these days some of them. i wat a 6300 its perfect for me 6233 isnt. for now im using 6230i but i still want a 6230!

  • To 786: Thanks for the compliments in regards to my rhyme. I haven't gotten another phone yet but I will go with the 6300 seeing that it stores 1,000 contacts. I don't know when I will get it but my aim is to get it when the time is right. Regardless of multimedia features I pay close attention to the telephony part of a phone because regardless of what a cell phone can do, it's still a phone. 786, there's no way I could leave from 6230's 1,000 capacity phone book to settle with 6233's 500 capacity. No way hosay, that's a big downgrade right there. I don't care if it has bluetooth v2.0, 2MP camera...if the phone book is smaller than the original then it's a DOWNGRADE in my book. I honestly don't want to give up my 6230 but if I do then the replacement must be superb and let me see day after day why I upgraded to it. Bottomline though, any new phone I get has to have at least a 1,000 capacity phonebook and good telephony features...in other words, call management and a high capacity phone book is the integral part of me purchasing a phone, everything else is secondary.

  • Damnnn,O-G nice ryhm there...!!! which phone did you get then Nokia 6233 or 6300 ?? i miss my 6230 soo muchh i wish i never sold it it was the best i ever had and then 6233 came and ruined my life lol!!!!!!! 6230 is the best phone in the World!! The End.others are starting to Bend.6230 has the Trend!!!

  • I got this phone last summer and it is a very good phone so far. It's got bluetooth, camera, predictive text and many more. I can't say it's bad but can't say it's good either. I know Nokia could do better!

  • I REMEMBER...when I first saw the Nokia 6230 on air and online. I REMEMBER...when I first saw the television advertisement, Nokia separated it from all the other phones...they showed a variety of phones one after the other then showed the 6230 between the slogan Nokia - Connecting People...the 6230 was right there with the 'Nokia' above it and the 'Connecting People' part below the phone. I REMEMBER...when I thought I wouldn't be able to get one because it would be out of my league. I REMEMBER...when I held one for the first time and felt like I was a beginner to the cell phone world. I REMEMBER...using it for the first time and felt like I was in a different world. I REMEMBER...it being a pioneer for most of the multimedia features and still on top today. I REMEMBER...to always respect it because it has put every other phone to shame and forcing them to play catch up. I REMEMBER...to take care of it because another phone like this may never grace the world again.

  • To MIG: Stop worrying. The 6230 reads a 1GB perfectly...I'm using one in my phone right now. It will also read a 2GB too. Just try it, I'm sure you will see that you were worried over nothing (smile).

  • To E34: The 6230 is "SMARTER" than many phones. I have been fooling around a Palm Treo 650...a so called smart phone and I must say that my Nokia 6230 put the Treo 650 to shame in more ways than one. First of all the specs. are the same in many cases, 65K screen, VGA camera etc. The 6230 camera beats the Palm Treo's camera and somehow the 6230 MP3's playback appears to be louder. The Treo 650 polyhonic ringing is the loudest I have ever heard in a phone, it's extremely loud...BUT the earpiece volume is said to be very low...which makes no sense...based on the loudness of the Treo's ringer you won't miss a call but you won't hear the caller clearly when you answer the phone...that seems more dumb than "smart" to me. I compared the 6230 camera with the Treo 650's. I used both phones to take a photo of the same object and compared them on a PC. The 6230 wins hands down, smoother and clearer. The Treo 650 has NO nightmode. The 650 is big, bulky and not very smart whereas the 6230 is very small and very smart. The End.

  • I upgraded from 6230 to N73 Music Edition a week ago. Now I must confess that 6230 is smarter than the so called "smart phone" N73. N73 lacks a whole bunch of essential things that my 3 years old 6230 has, i.e. timed profiles, auto key lock, repeated alarms, reminders.......the list is even longer. So my point is STICK TO YOUR 6230 and you won't regret. Nokia 6230 rulles

  • I have a 6230 v5.24 than buying a 6230i,c0z s0me says tha 6230i freezes wth 1gb mmc,n0w the questi0n is,d0es 6230 can REALLY read a 1gb?If yes,h0w b0ut 2gb?I find it hard to decide,c0z on friday,i wil buy mmc,the diff between 1gb and 2gb is a small bucks,is it w0rth buying a 2gb mmc to 6230?D0 any0ne try it?Wh0m?Help jamaican.Tnx.Asap.

  • Yeah i found it quite irritating as well just take it to a nokia dealer and have the port realigned it comes loose when u drop it etc

  • Jude My 6230i has that problem with its Pop port the sound keeps cutting,it seems i have that problem with my 6230i to.ouch never new until i read your post down below.:( original_jamaican good choice 6300 its a good phone! 6233 i think is not that good compared to 6300

  • To Original Jamaican Hey there sorry 4 the long delay remeber my 6230i had a prob with the popport connector and the sound kept cutting, well the connector was loose so i had it realligned coz it was loose, thats what they told me at the nokia center so it should work well now. It seems it was not put properly at the factory. i read u also want to get a new Nokia well unlike our buddy 786 i quite like the 6233 coz of the metalic body and awesome stereo speakers the display is also awesome with small changes here and there to the UI, i dont find it that much advanced over the 6230i but its better all round albeit the small internal memory & the phone book. Nokia hae also changed the charger connector DUMB DUMB move coz now u cant charge ur phone as easily as b4, u know, someone with a nokia 3310 or 1100 can help u out with a charger now its quite a bit difficult, almost every one has a nokia. 6233 also has VGA video recording and its music player sound output as well as all 3rd edition S40 UI phones is quite loud much more than the 6230/6230i. It also has 3g as well. On the other hand the 6300 is also tempting its slim like the L7 & also has steel body panels, it has no pop port which i think is gr8 and its music player is awesome with playlist support etc jus like Sony Ericsson Walkman phones, it also looks alot of a hell cooler than the 6233. Its diplay is devine as well even better than the 6233 16 mill colours, but its camera is inferior 2 the 6233. Mmmmmh tough choice btwn the two, oh the 6233 is cheaper but make sure u get one -if u do- with the latest firmware coz pple have complined about bugs with early versions and the bluetooth not identifing motorola phones. It also does fell good in ur hand and has the best keys i have ever pressed (except the side ones). Oh yeah i also like Sony Ericcsons too, just a suggestion, i know u r a Nokia die hard so am i but the W810 is sooo tempting, awesome 2mp camera and sound quality unmathced. Ps U can use Apple's i tunes to convert mp3's to M4A's so as to make large files smaller 4 ur 6230/6230i but retain sound quality. Rock on Nokia.

  • To 786: Thank you for the advice. I will definately try to get my hands on a 6300. Right after you recommended it I saw GSMArena do a review of it. You mentioned it to me BEFORE the review right ? When GSMArena first announced it in November news I read it but 5 months later it's something easily forgotten after reading some many news reports after. I'm glad you mentioned it though because I completely forgot about it. It's sad though that it doesn't have infrared. However, other areas make up for that. Big up everytime 786.

  • does it have Stereo Bluetooth A2DP ??

  • Original_jamaican instead of you getting Nokia 6233 get 6300 becuse its a good upgrade from 6230 but 6233 has identical feautres to 6230 (updated feautures) the choice is up to you>

  • thanks for the advice but unfortunately i have tried all those before, i got fedup and wanted some advice.anyway thanks.i will have to find a nokia which definitely is time consuming and i really do not have time.

  • To GORGUTZ: First of all you need a PC connection and Nokia PC Suite. Do you have all of these ? Answer me and we can move on from there.

  • how can i select wich tracks i want in may playlists? i have mp3's to listen, and ringtones, and the phone puts all in playlist when i'm using the music player. what should i do?

  • to Original_jamaican well to be honest i DONT really like 6233 the reasons are: to big(110g) to heavy 3G(i dont need 3G) the 3rd edition OS is abit harder to use the phone slows down with 1GB microSD if the firmware is old.. these are the things i like about 6233: stereo speakers(3D sound) VGA video (15fps) < same 6230 2mp resolution (1600+1200) the pop port is very loud with 3.5 jack stard earphones. i do regret getting 6233 becuase i acchewly SOLD my oringal 6230 for it which i now regret doing..6233 is a good update of 6230 but the features are abit dull and not as good as 6230 soo in conclusion original jamaican YES do get 6233 but TRUST ME on this you will be using 6230 more!! iv owned all of them 6230 6230i and 6233..my opinion 6230 still is best!!! thanks for telling me about the 1GB working in 6230 ...now all i have to do is BUY a 6230 again!!!

  • To G2: First of all, you CANNOT get a firmware update using the internet...unless you are going to use a computer to download the firmware and then take it to a repair shop or someone to install the file on the phone for you. I don't know if what I'm about to say will work on your phone but I somehow miraculously fixed a 3310 with a speaker problem just like yours. First I did a reset, turned off the phone, took out the battery, squeeze the tip of the speaker and then knocked the phone, the speaker part, in the palm of my hand. When I turned it on the speaker was working just like new again, as loud as it was before and it hasn't stopped since...that was about 3 months ago. The ONLY thing is that because the Nokia 3310 is made of rubber I was able to squeeze it...but your speaker is made from hard plastic material so I guess you can try everything I did EXCEPT the squeezing part. Good luck and I really hope you get your sound back.

  • To 786: I purchased a 1GB late last year, November 23rd to be exact and it has been working fine up to now...NO corruption, NO glitches, NO slow downs, NO freezes, NO crashes...so YES I would say it works fine with the original 6230. 786, tell me what you honestly think about the 6233, I have been giving thought to acquiring one as a second phone...is it worth the upgrade ? Other than the 500 contacts limit, are you satisfied with the features and performance ?

  • i am in a big problem. can anyone be kind enough to help me out? my nokia 6230 speaker stopped working suddenly. and please let me know where to get an firmware update on the internet?

  • to Original_Jamaican hello again i need to know if 6230 can read a 1GB MMC with no problems because i have a 1GB MMC for my 6230i and people are saying that 6230i only holds up to 512MB and i have used the 1GB MMC in 6230i for 2 months and its got currupt becuase 6230i can only hold up to 512MB and 6230 can run with 1GB with no problems is it true????? regards 786 thanks in advance

  • To NAMELESS: Firmware 5.24 fixed many bluetooth problems that the earlier firmwares had. Upgrade to 5.24 or later. Your options are 5.24, 5.26, 5.35 and 5.50. Personally I prefer 5.24 for a number of reasons.

  • to original_jamaican: firmware 4.43

  • Jamaican,cn i ask u dis?D0es 6230i,wth i,cn handle a 1 or 2gb mmc?S0ri but i just wnt to ask.Have u use already 6230i?Cn it handle a 1or2gb mmc?Reply pls.Nid ur help.Do themes cn be use if they are in the mmc?Wats the latest frmware?Tnx.

  • To EVERYONE: This phone has so many features that you stumble across new things every now and again. A few tips that you probably won't find in the manual. If a folder name is too long you can see the entire folder name by highlighting the folder and pressing the pound key also known as number sign key (#). While playing a video clip that same number sign key mutes and unmutes the audio. This may prove useful if you quickly need a moment of silence without stopping the movie. Once you connect the Nokia 6230 to a PC, double clicking a Java file (.jar) will easily install that file to the phone, whether it's a game or application. It will first prompt you asking if you would like to install the application to the phone, just say YES. This is by far the easiest and quickest way to install java apps to the Nokia 6230 and I don't see this method possible with other brands of phones. This is exclusive for the Nokia 6230. While playing an audio file in the Music Player, pressing and holding the 'up' navigation key will REWIND the track and holding the 'down' key will FAST FORWARD the track. Many phones with Music Players CAN'T rewind and fast forward. There's so much to love about the 6230, it's definately one of the GREATEST multimedia phones of all time !!!

  • To TQ: You CANNOT increase the Nokia 6230's internal memory and you CANNOT install games on the memory card. Games are automatically installed in the phone's memory.

  • To NAMELESS: Sorry to hear about your bluetooth problems. I had some problems with my bluetooth at one point in time, which seemed to be hardware related more than software. I eventually got another unit and no problems with the new unit. In your case though your bluetooth problems may be software related more than hardware. Do a factory reset if you haven't already done so. You can also take out the battery, MMC and SIM card and leave them out of the phone for a day. You could also take out the battery and hold the power button down for 30 secs. or more...this is said to reset the software, I don't know how true that is. If none of the above works then upgrade your firmware. What version firmware do you have at the moment ?

  • kaK7 TQ, but what is the extra memory card for? Can we download game there or may be we some other program. Pls advice TQ

  • how do i increase shared memory. I need to download more games, can I use memory card to download and play game. I have tried a few time but fail. Pls advice. TQ

  • when i get a higher version of firmware.. will my bluetooth capabilities improve? coz everytime I like to send a 3 MB or higher file to another phone via bluetooth.. my phone shuts down and fails the whole transferring operation.. Any tips on this area Original_jamaican?

  • I hate it here in the Philippines.. there's nowhere you can trust to flash your phone. Any advise?

  • To Original_jamaican... Aaron... and AARONBOY are two different people... Sorry for causing confusion.. We're two different people... I'm AARONBOY.. the one with Firmware 4.43.. The other Aaron must have gotten you confused..

  • To MIG: Somebody once quoted a Nokia Rep. saying that a 2GB MMC will cause the phone to EXPLODE. I don't think that would really happen. With the new firmware releases I think a 2GB MMC should work fine enough. Maybe a higher capacity would cause an explosion...but who knows, maybe Nokia may yet release more firmwares to accomodate 4GB MMC when they become standard. You can create a tracklist using Nokia Audio Manager in the Nokia PC Suite software. However, depending on the version of Nokia PC Suite it may be called 'Transfer Music'. My advice is to try a 2GB MMC, if it doesn't work, if the phone doesn't recognise it or if the phone recognises it but slows down the entire phone then return it and get back your money.

  • To TJ: You CANNOT increase shared memory on ANY phone. The most you can do is delete stuff to make room for other things.

  • how do we increase the shared memory as I wanted to download more game.

  • Hi, I was just wondering if anyone could help me solving a little problem with my 6230! When I want to transfer mp3 from my PC to the phone (via bluetooth) it stores the mp3 directly to the phones memory and doesn't give me the option to save them on the MMC! I can't even move them later to the MMC! Any advice?! Thanks

  • To DICEKEI: I can't dispute what others have said in regards to a 2GB MMC overheating if used in the 6230. I have heard that it will work and I honestly believe it will work without problems. Another opinionist said a friend of theirs who work at a Nokia Care Centre, said v5.24 and higher, can read up to 2GB...which I honestly believe. Don't let me persuade you though, follow your mind. A dual voltage RS-MMC should work perfectly well with your phone. Stop fretting and store your memories on a 2GB MMC (smile).

  • Jamaican,0thers said dat 6230 wil surely overheat if l0ade wth 2gb.And also wil c0st me w0rthles.Is that true?I have upgraded already my versi0n to 5.35.Im h0pe my f0ne cn handle a 2gb mmc.D0es rs dv kind of mmc can b use in dis f0ne?

  • To DICEKEI: Once you have v5.24 or later your 6230 should handle a 2GB MMC or RS-MMC without any problems.

  • jamaican, does 6230 can really handle a 2gb rs dv mmc?reply to my email and also post here asap.tnx bro.

  • To AARON: At first you said that you had v4.43, now you say that your friend checked your phone and it says v5.24. Which one was it originally, v4.43 or v5.24 ?

  • Hi Original Jamiacan thanks for the tip off i actually went into the carphone warehouse today and they wanted to charge me for a firmware update, but i got my fried to check and it cam up with version 5.24 which i think should work fine thank you so much for the help!! take care!! aaron

  • please is there anyone who knows how to delete the internet settings on the 6230; the 10 slots are full and i cannot receive any more settings. when i try to do so, i get the prompt: "failed to save received connection settings".

  • Guys! Been using this little dynamite for 3 years and recently bought a N73 for the wife. So i thought why don't i get something new for myself. Thought about the E50. Then i saw this site and all the comments and advice and stuff. Went down the mall and got my phone upgraded for the first time. Its now on 5.50. What an awesome move! My message alert was before faulty - sometime off and sometime on. Its now working ok (so far) and the speed and some of the changes are great. The options available during writing a sms message are wonderful. I think i'm going to stick to my old 6230 and save myself a few hundred bucks! Note: one glitch, tho..now all of a sudden my MMS card has a password and i don't know what it is! But what the heck, I'll just change it to a new higher one! Go 6230 go!

  • To AARON: R E A D T H I S V E R Y C A R E F U L L Y. Your phone can read a 1GB MMC. However, you need to have firmware v5.24 or later to see the correct statistics for your memory card which includes capacity, used and free space. If you have a firmware older than 5.24, whenever you check the memory size, you will see something like 80MB but you can ignore that because you can store stuff on the card going over that 80MB all the way up to 1GB. You just WON'T know how much capacity is really being used. Firmwares 5.24, 5.26. 5.35 and 5.50 shows the correct capacity, used and free space. As I said before in previous posts, firmware 5.50 is the latest. I have a 1GB memory card and with my 5.24, the phone tells me that the total capacity is 991.2MB (which is normal due to file system etc.). I have a Transcend 1GB. So AARON, forget 256 & 512MB and go with a 1GB, you will enjoy the freedom of space. Let me know what '1GB MMC' you decided to purchase and tell me what you think about it. Take care until next time.

  • hi im not sure wether to buy a 256mb mmc or a 512mb im sure that a 1gb would not work, but would a 512 work?? please email me back thank you

  • To AZIN: You say you have a problem but you haven't stated the problem. What is wrong with your phone ?

  • i really have problem with 6230.it has a main problem in motherboard and nobody can repair it

  • To Original Jamaican Thanks alot i'll surely try and get back to you on how it went.

  • many thanks dude! :)

  • To AARONBOY: If you do decide to flash your phone I recommend firmware version 5.24, I love it and want no other. However, you can also go with 5.35 or 5.50 if you feel comfortable having the very latest version. AVOID 5.26, I have heard a few complaints and we can't afford to tolerate errors when we expect important calls, especially from that new girl or business opportunity (smile).

  • To AARONBOY: YES it's possible to update your firmware to a later version BUT you CAN'T get it done through a WEBSITE link. You can ONLY update your firmware (this process is also known as 'flashing the phone') via special cables and a special type of electronic box which is expensive for the average consumer. The best way to get an upgrade done is to take your phone to a Nokia Center, who will do the upgrade for you free of charge if your phone is still under warranty, otherwise they will charge you a small fee. There are also other 3rd parties who will flash your phone for you. The easiest way to locate these type of people is to check your nearest phone repair shop, if they don't flash phones ask them to recommend a company or someone that does.

  • To AARONBOY: It is said that if you put the music files in the root directory of the Memory Card the Music Player will find your MP3 files. The root directory is the main area of the Memory Card, that is, do NOT put the music files in any folders that you created on the Memory Card, or any folders that came with the Memory Card...do NOT put the music files in any folders period! This only applies to firmware 4.43 and older. Once you upgrade to 5.24 or later you can put your music files anywhere at all in your phone or the memory card and the Music Player will find it automatically.

  • Oh yeah... and by the way... i think my camera has a lil problem.. but no worries... Original_jamaican, Is it possible to have an update or upgrade on the firmware version on your Nokia6230? If it can be done..could you give me a link to a site that does it? Or only Nokia has the capability of doing so? Thanx.. Aaronboy, Philippines

  • Original_jamaican here is what i see after i type *#0000#.. V 04.43 24-08-04 RH-12 GSM P1.1 (c) NMP. what do I do with it now? Everytime I open the Music Player in the Media Menu, it says No Music Files found! I want it to read from the Memory Card and not in the default Music Files folder.. But I can't change it... Help me out? Please...???

  • To AARONBOY: What version firmware you have ? Version 5.24 and later looks for MP3 & AAC files from ever corner of the phone so no matter where in the internal memory or memory card you put an MP3 or AAC audio file, the music player WILL find it. You can check your firmware revision by typing *#0000# in stand-by mode, that is, where you see the battery and reception indicator bars. That black spot you are talking about has me puzzled, I have had 2 different 6230 phones, with 3 different firmwares between the two and not once have I ever seen a dark spot on the upper left side of any photos I took...the only dark thing I see is the small black camera icon at the upper left. Please keep me posted

  • the phone is jampacked with features.. but i wish there were some way of getting an MP3 player software that can look to a different destination folder other than the default (MUSIC FILES) folder found in the Gallery.. and there is a small dark spot on the upper left side of the pic after i use its camera for pic taking.. is something wrong with that?

  • To JUDE: It's funny how these Nokia people tell you the problem and didn't offer to fix it for you. They are correct though, dirt can indeed mess up communication between a phone and a cable. I had somewhat of a similar problem but it wasn't with my headset, it was with my charger. I noticed sometimes the phone would stop charging prematurely...meaning before it the battery was fully charged. Eventually I realised what the problem was. Because I carry my phone in my pocket sometimes lint and other debris in my pocket would get into the charging socket, most times they would block one of the gold contact which the charger needs to touch in order to charge the battery. Sometimes it would get really bad that the charger would slip out a bit because of the clogged socket, I never thought about anything getting into the socket until one day I decided to investigate it. I saw quite a bit of lint in there and then I realised why the resistance whenever I tried to plug in my charger and why the charger wouldn't communicate with the battery properly if it even communicated at all. Believe it or not, lint/debris has never gotten into my POP-PORT connector socket despite it being so close to the charging socket. However, lint/debris got into my previous phone pop-port connector socket, it was a Nokia 3200. Sometimes whenever I plugged in my CA-42 data cable, the PC wouldn't recognise the phone and when I decided to investigate it I saw lint in one of the holes where the connector plugs into and I believe some lint was stuck across the gold pins where the data cable touchs. JUDE, in your case it could just be a matter of something being stuck in one or both holes on either end of your pop-port connector, where the headset is supposed to plug into. Examine it closely, use a pin to push down in either hole and see if it touches anything soft. A pin works fine but be careful not to use it too hard because you don't want to scratch up your phone. You can also use to pin and gently scrape each of the gold contacts which your headset touches, all 13 of them. All in all that should solve your problem, if not, try a different headset and if that fails maybe something is going wrong with the gold communication pins. Please let me know the outcome. Good luck.

  • To DICEKEI: I'm using a Transcend 1GB MMC. It read and write data at 6MB per second...it has been reliable over the few months I have had it so I have no complaints. It's fast enough for me.

  • To DICEKEI: First of all, there's no known software which can enable the 6230 to read .avi or .wma formats, maybe a java midlet will be developed someday to make it possible, who knows ? Secondly, it's strange how your PC Suite works fine on your Pentium 2 but doesn't on the Pentium 4. Try uninstalling the software from 'Control Panel' - 'Add/Remove Programs'. Uninstall the cable driver first which is listed separately from the PC Suite itself. You normally find it above the PC Suite title. Once you remove the 'Nokia Connectivity Cable Driver' go ahead an unistall 'Nokia PC Suite'. Restart your PC right after you uninstall both programs. When you restart the machine reinstall the Nokia PC Suite and see if everything works fine after that.

  • 0rgnal jamaican,is there any jack available to our f0ne so that we can here our mp3 in the amplifier?Pls help

  • To Original Jamaican Hi there dude, I wanted u 2 help me. • To DICEKEI: 5.50 is still the latest firmware as far as I know. The 6230i is basically the same as the Nokia 6230, just that it enhances many of the features the 6230 has and it has support for themes. I have heard many complaints that the higher resolution runs down the battery quickly. There's a noticeable lag in it, the 6230 is faster and I have seen many complaints about the ringtones ascending when you set the ring volume to level 4 or 5...meaning it starts off low then gets high. I have used one before but not long enough to say whether it's really a better buy over the 6230. You will have to try to get your hands on one and decide for yourself. Nevertheless, Hopefully what I said was enough for you to make your decision.

  • To DICEKEI: There's no software that can enhance the camera other than Nokia's own firmware updates. Firmware 5.24, 5.35 and the later updates which are the basically the same as 5.24 allows you to experience the real 6230. The easiest way to maximise the use of your 6230 is getting a large capacity MMC (Multimedia Memory Card). The 32MB that comes with the phone just doesn't cut it. It's just to demonstrate the power of the phone. The minimum capacity I would recommend is 256MB. Once you have a large capacity then the possibilities are endless with this phone. Music, Movies, Movie Trailers, Music videos, bloopers and other type of video clips, photos, grapics, screen savers whether real or animated, ringtones whether it be MP3 rings, AAC ringtone, polyphonic rings, monophonic rings, AMR ringtones. You can even use it as a jump drive / flash drive / thumb drive by putting computer software on the drive, whether it be a Windows XP installation files, Microsoft Office installation files or you could simply put document files, whether it be word files, excel files, access files. wordperfect files any form of files that can be stored on a computer hard drive. This is useful if you want to transport files from office to home or vice versa...remember that you need to have a data cable, bluetooth or infrared adapter to connect the PC with. Once this phone helped out a friend, I was over their house and they wanted a Microsoft word document to be printed, their ink was finished so I decided to take the file over to my house, I didn't have any diskettes or CDs to burn the file on, there was no jump drive / thumb drive around either, I decided to use my phone after some thinking and transferred the word document file to the phone using my data cable which I had with me. They already had the PC Suite software installed because they have a Nokia phone as well. So that was one instance where the 6230 proved to be very useful that day. Not every phone or every Nokia phone allows PC files to be transferred to them, for example, I had a Nokia 3200 and once I tried to transfer a microsoft word document file to it and I got an error message saying the 'That Operation is Restricted' and 'The Mobile Phone Rejected the Operation...the phone simply wouldn't allow any form of computer files on it. Another way to utilise the features and maximise the use of the phone is by getting java applications, whether it be a business application, communication application or game application. The 6230 supports J2ME (Java 2 Mobile Edition) and MIDP2 (Mobile Information Device Profile 2)...many s40 phones like the Nokia 3200 only supports MIDP1. Nokia claims that the phone will accept up to 128KB java apps BUT I got a 200KB to work pefectly! I even got a game which was more than 300KB to work but it was off screen due to the type of resolution screen it was intended for. If you love games then try out some on the 6230. The older series 40 (s40) games normally maxed out at 64KB...eg. Nokia 3200 wouldn't allow any java app. over 64KB to be installed. These same 64KB will work perfectly with the 6230 but most of these games aren't that great unless it's from a company called Gameloft or Macrospace other than these two companies it hard to find many great games that doesn't pass the 64KB file size. If you are a big game fan than forget the s40 games and focus on the series 40 version 2 games (s40v2) which is exclusive for the Nokia 6230. The 6230 was the FIRST s40v2 phone! The s40v2 games normally has background music so while you are playing the game there's music playing right through. They are normally big too has in the time it may take you to finish the entire game and lastly they have great graphics and wonderful soundeffects. If you have a Nokia 6230 then series 40 version 2 games is the way to go. There's nothing too great for the 6230 to handle, originally, the phone isn't supposed to support 3GP2 files (only 3GP) but I got a 3GP2 file to work, showed clearly the only thing is that no sound could be heard. This phone handles anything you throw at it, whether it be the highest bitrate MP3, the highest bitrate 3GP...the ONLY problem is that these high bitrate files will drain your phone battery. This phone can be used to do so many things for the mere fact that it's a business class phone and classic phone all in one device. NONE of the Nokia 6230 firmwares has support for themes, you will need the 6230i for that. The most important thing to remember about the 6230 is that while many phones have limitations and restrict certain things from going on those phones, the 6230 accepts anything you throw at it!

  • May i kn0w wat is new in the latest firmware of 6230 which is v05.80?D0es v05.35 have the feature theme n0r 5.80?Orgnal jamaican,we nid ur help.Whch is better,6230 or wth "i".Tnx br0

  • To DICEKEI: Once you upgrade to 5.35 you will see the correct memory size for a 2GB Multimedia Memory Card (MMC). Hope my advice works out well for you.

  • To DICEKEI: A 2GB Memory Card may work with your 6230 BUT it won't register the correct memory size. When v4.44 was released, 2GB memory capacity wasn't in Nokia's mind but surprisingly v4.44 is able to recognise a 1GB MMC which Nokia claimed wouldn't work. When you check the memory size, you will see something like 80MB but ignore that because you can store stuff on the card going over that 80MB all the way up to 1GB. You just WON'T know how much capacity is really being used. It's a strong possibility that a 2GB MMC will work with firmware v4.44. A 2GB will definately work with v5.24. I myself had v4.44 but upgraded to v5.24 because v4.44 has a lot of limitations. 5.24 shows the real beauty of the 6230. If version 5.35 is the only firmware available then go along with it. 5.35 is the same as 5.24, 5.24 is a personal preference on my part so don't worry, you will get the same results if you go with 5.35. If you decided to go along with 5.35 I assure you that you will enjoy it and you will see an instant difference compared to 4.44. Finally, 5.35 WON'T harm your phone in anyway, it will only make it better (smile). I will send you an e-mail in regards to 5.24 so check your mailbox once you read this. Let me know how things work out.

  • To BOGDAN: The ONLY way to save MP3s or any other file for that matter to the memory card is via the PC...either using a data cable, bluetooth or infrared. In receiving a file from another phone or other devices, the file is saved to the 6230's internal memory by default, that is a standard thing and you CAN'T change it! You can assign a password to your MMC by going to 'Gallery', the MMC option is automatically highlighted once you enter the gallery, select 'Options' then scroll up or down until you see 'Set Password', highlight and select the 'Set Password' option, enter your password, press 'OK', it will ask you to confirm it, retype it a second time and it's case sensitive so if it was in FULL CAPS when you first typed it then it has to be in FULL CAPS the second time around when it asks you to confirm it. However, I DO NOT RECOMMEND using the password feature, you can end up locking yourself out of your own memory card. Once you assign a password you can access the memory card using the same phone easily BUT once you take out the MMC and put it in another phone, the password WILL be required in order to access the MMC. If a password is assigned to a MMC and you put that MMC in a Memory Card Reader, when you try to access the MMC the computer will FREEZE!...until you take out the MMC out of the computer. To get around this problem you first need to disable the password from the MMC using the same phone which assigned the password and then put the MMC back in the Card Reader. Use the password feature with caution, in some cases people had to throw away their memory cards because they forgot their passwords. I hope you now have a better understanding of the things you asked about. Take care.

  • how can i put a password on my mmc?

  • is it possible to save mp3 directly on the memory card?thanks

  • thanks a lot OJ!

  • To MYKL: Backing up is fairly easy. You have 3 options, DKU-2 data cable, Bluetooth or Infrared (IrDa). I use a DKU-2 cable because cable is faster than the others. If you choose to go with Bluetooth of IrDa then your PC MUST have the respective adapter or as some call it dongle. Secondly you need to install Nokia PC Suite. Nokia PC Suite v6.82 is the latest but to me v6.4 is the best to date. It really doesn't matter which one you install, both will get the job done...if you want better flexibility though v6.4 is the way to go. You can find the PC Suite on the CD that came with the phone, if you don't have the CD you can download it from Nokia's website, here's the link You WON'T find v6.4 on Nokia's site because they only keep the latest versions on their site. You will certainly see an improvement in audio quality using a better headset, I don't have to do any tests to know so (smile). It's possible for a 2GB MMC to work with the Nokia 6230 BUT you need to have firmware v5.24 or higher. You can check your firmware by typing *#0000# in standby mode...where you see the battery and signal indicators. The speed will differ depending on the MMC and Manufacturer of that MMC. The older technology was called MMCs, the newer technology is called MMC Plus! for the full sized MMC and MMC Mobile for the reduced sized MMC Plus!...where you fit the smaller sized MMC in an adapter before putting it in the phone. Regardless of this, some MMC Plus / MMC Mobile are faster than others, pay attention to the read and write speed before buying a card. The older MMCs normally maxed out at 2.5MB per second whereas the newer ones (MMC Plus!) range from about 6MB - 32MB per second. Be sure to note that you will pay more for higher speed MMC Plus! cards. For best results DON'T go below 6MB per second read & write speed. The MMC Plus! which reads at 32MB per second may be a waste because the phone won't be able to utilise all that speed, I am yet to find out what MMC speed the 6230 max out at. If anybody knows they can share it with me (smile). MYKL I hope my answer will be of great help. Take care.

  • @OJ- i've been reading your comments and they are really helpful. i hope that you can help me out with some concerns... how do i back-up data on my 6230 before i flash/upgrade to 5.5? can i expect a reasonable improvement in the audio quality with a better headset? will a 2gb mmc work with the 6230? still with the same speed? thanks!

  • To B. MEADOWS: Well you have to look elsewhere and forget about the Nokia offices. Take the phone to any repair shop, if they don't facilitate the service I'm sure they can recommend a source for you. Take care and thanks for reading.

  • Original Jamaican, I have followed your advice and information on this site and am very grateful. I have two 6230's and would like to get them flashed to upgrade to v5.24(or better). But when I checked with Nokia to see where the closest place is to do that(Atlanta Georgia, United States)There is nowhere to do it. Nokia suggested that I mail in the equipment, but they would not flash the phones unless there were actual problems with the phones(which I do not have actual problems with the phones). Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

  • To TARIQ: You can also take it to any phone repair center that flashes phone or even an individual if they are into the phone flashing thing.

  • TARIQ: Sometimes we all face memory loss with our 6230. Sometimes it happens for various reasons. Many times it just cannot be explained. In your case it appears that part of the song is stuck in memory. First of all do a factory reset, turn off the phone, take out the battery, SIM card and Memory Card (if you have one in your phone). Leave everything out for a few hours, even for a day if possible. Try this first and if it doesn't work then you can try what I did to my own phone below. There was a point in time I was able to reclaim some lost space but it can be very tricky. Originally my phone had 7.3MB and then for some reason it went to 7MB then 6.9MB gradually. It never went lower than 6.9MB. What I had to do was to full up the rest of the phone memory and then transfer everything to the PC using my DKU-2 cable. You can try filling up the remainder of your phone memory with one big file or multiple files and if you don't have a data cable for your phone then just use the phone buttons to delete all the stuff you filled the phone up with. It worked for me sometimes but there were times when I just could reclaim any memory at all. If none of the above works you can turn off the phone, turn it back on and do a factory reset then go through each menu and set them up to your liking. I know this may sound strange but I actually got back some lost memory by doing a factory reset and then going through each menu and customising them the way I want. If none of my tips works after trying them over and over then you will have to visit a Nokia center, tell them the problem and they will know what to do. They will either flash your phone with the same firmware or they might just do a backup and empty phone contents procedure. It will cost you if your phone is no longer under warranty but that method should fix the problem. Memory loss is what I fear the most with this phone because it can be the hardest thing to get back and Nokia themselves doesn't seem to have a clue how to reclaim it back either. Good luck and I hope it works out for you.

  • I have been having a problem i was downloading a 6.2 mb song and the battery ran out i was placing it in the images folder in gallery now the folder shows 4.2 mb for nothing and i cant use the memory so is there a way to format 6230 phone memory or something

  • JUDE, having a 1GB is the way to go BUT it can be very addictive, you may find yourself putting stuff on it everyday. I have a full length 'high quality' movie on mine and my 1GB is begging me to put on more movies. The length of the movie is 2hr. 5min. and the file size of the movie is 99.7MB...less than 100MB, isn't that good ?

  • You are very much welcomed JUDE (smile).

  • To Original Jamaican Thanks 4 the input again thanks so much. Just imagine my MMC 512 is not working properly wen i put an mp3 file in 2 the card it corrupts the files making it not to play at all. Am returning it today and hope to get another one. Thanks a lot you are sureley very helpfull and indespensible. I just came back from the dealer & we tried out the MMC and it was faulty also on his phone(he has a 6230i as well) we also tried 2 other cards and they all failed so i'll move on 2 a diff brand a 1gb card thanks again. You ROCK!!!!!!!!!!!

  • To SHOLA: As I said, If NONE of that WORKS you just have to do what I did once again and take out the MMC and put it back in until the password lock have disappeared. Have faith.

  • To SHOLA: I'm sorry about your problematic memory card. Let me tell you my story and then you can try a thing or two with yours. I assigned a password to my MMC (not recommended). One day I used my Card Reader put some stuff on the phone and I don't quite remember what happened before the MMC went back into the phone but let's just say that it wasn't smooth sailing in terms of shutting down the Card Reader in Windows XP before taking out the MMC out of the Card Reader. When I put the MMC back in the phone it was password locked...now remember, I assigned a password so I said to myself no problem. I put in my password about 10 times and it didn't work so I took out the MMC and re-insert it back into the phone and tried again, same thing, I had to take it out and put in back in about 8 times before it accepted the password. Ever since that I disabled the password for good. I realised that EVEN if I DIDN'T assign a password from the beginning, the phone would have prompted me for one in that rare instance, which is what you are facing now. Shola, take my advice, you can do it, you can restore your MMC back in a normal working condition. Try turning the phone off, then take out the battery, memory card, SIM card and leave them out for a while. Sometimes when the battery is out for a while it restores several things in the phone...you can say it frees up the RAM (Random Access Memory). If it still doesn't work do a factory reset then turn off the phone immediately, once the phone has shut down, press and hold the power button for 30 secs. or more, then take out the battery and MMC and leave them out for about 5 mins. If NONE of that you just have to do what I did once again and take out the MMC and put it back in until the password lock have disappeared. A question, ARE YOU SURE NOBODY FOOLED AROUND YOUR PHONE AND PUT A PASSWORD ON YOUR MMC ? Because if somebody did NONE OF WHAT I'M TELLING YOU WILL WORK UNTIL A PASSWORD IS TYPED IN THE PHONE. I have given you all my suggestions, there's nothing more I can say to help you. For the record though, the password feature is VERY RISKY and is done at the owner's risk. If the password should be forgotten the MMC will ONLY work in the phone which assigned the password to it UNLESS a similar case like SHOLA's should happen where the phone falls or some unusual and rare malfuntion happens, in that case NOT even the phone which assigned the password will be able to use the MMC. Once you assign a password it WON'T work in any other device, whether it be a phone, digital camera, MP3 Player, GPS and other devices that uses MMC you name it...NOT even a Card Reader! In fact, you NEED to remove the password BEFORE inserting the MMC in a Card Reader because Card Readers DON'T ask for passwords, instead the computer WILL FREEZE and you will have to remove the MMC from the Card Reader for the computer to stabilize again. A friend of mine said he assigned a password to their MMC and forgot the password and ended up throwing away the MMC...that is how SERIOUS this password protection is! There's NO BYPASS, you HAVE to remember the password in order to unlock the MEMORY CARD !!! Nokia 6230 owners use this password lock feature at their own risk!!! Don't say you weren't warned.

  • It was done pal, nothing after came out from it.

  • To Original Jamaican thanks 4 the input again thanks so much. Just imagine my MMC 512 is not working properly wen i put an mp3 file in 2 the card it corrupts the files making it not to play at all. Am returning it today and hope to get another one. Thanks a lot you are very helpfull

  • To JUDE: To answer both questions in regards to the reason for size differences for MMC on screen compared to what is on the label and the best MMC for the Nokia 6230: First of all, you DON'T get the actual size quoted on the label due to formatting data which needs to be on the MMC for it to function properly. I know it sucks but that's just the way it is. Let me explain more into details. The quoted size as seen on the label is actually true but in order for the memory card to function it needs to have internal data which NO CUSTOMER can modify. However, depending on the MMC brand you will get a bit more storage space because some MMCs doesn't require an extensive amount of system data on the card. When you buy a 512MB MMC, that is the overall size but the internal system data takes away 16.8MB, which we could all make good use of, sadly. As I said before, depending on the brand MMC you can get a bit more, for example, I purchased a A-Data 'My Flash' 512MB MMC and the size shown on screen was 495.2MB. For personal reasons I exchanged it for a Kingston 512MB MMC and the size shown on screen was 497.4MB which is an additional 2.2MB compared to to the A-Data. One disadvantage though is that the Kingston costs more than the A-Data. So JUDE as you can see, the amount of storage you get varies from brand to brand. To answer your question as to which MMC So far I have come across four MMC brands and sizes which worked flawlessly: 1. A-Data 'My Flash' 512MB (RS-MMC) 2. Kingston 512MB (RS-MMC) 3. Transcend 1GB (MMC Plus!) 4. Supertalent 256MB (MMC Plus!) The MMC Mobile is a combination of MMC Plus! and RS-MMC...meaning you get the speed of the new technology MMCs in a reduced size (RS). All the MMC types out there are related to each other in one way or the other. There are others which is said to work like a charm. You just have to test other brands and see for yourself. I have pointed out the ones which I KNOW works. Take care JUDE.

  • does anyone know what the IM client is for this phone? mine got erased when i upgraded to v 5.50. is there a way i can download it and install it to my menu? i dont want to go to "collection" to acess it i want it on m menu. thanks.

  • used one in good condition with original cover and keypad available here for around US$95 to 100.

  • O_Jamacian..........excellent, keep it up.

  • Good evening. I have a 6230 with the 05.35 firmware version, witch is the best one so far. The is faster, and I have no software breakdows. To answer to some questions: In my opinion the best MMC you can buy is Kingstone. To define a password to the card all you have to do is to press options insted of opening the MMC file. In my opinion this is one of the best Nokia fhones ever. Have you ever tried to connect a PC to the net using the internel phone modem??? It's amazing...

  • To TMP: I'm a Computer Technician as well as an accountant. I mostly indulge in the computer line of things though. Everything pertaining to computing that's me.

  • To LEWY: I have a 1GB and it's WORKING FINE. As I said before, I tried my 1GB in a phone with a similar firmware like yours and it worked fine. The only problem is that firmware 4.28 and similar firmwares show a 1GB MMC as 80MB but it works and you can store 1GB of data on it just the same. Try it for yourself and see. I use a TRANSCEND 1GB.

  • O_Jamaican.....thank a lot for the info on the screens. you seem to know a lot'bout mobile phones. i appreciate one can consult you for free and seek you advise. i am not inquesitive, by the way what is your profession???? you don't need to answer my question if you don't want to. take care.

  • To Original Jamaican Sorry 4got to add on...What type of mmc cards does the 6230 & 6230i coz my 128mb is RS-MMC and my 512mb an MMC Mobile but the seem to work fine esp the 128 mb which i have had since i bought my phone on the 2nd of December and i bought the 512 2day....... Piz reply

  • to lewy .. the maximum memory u can put in this phone is 512mb ..

  • To Original Jamaican Thanks 4 the feed back about the software, the thing is i have a 128mb card and i had some rather big mp3 files on it so i used the software 2 compress them thats wen the trouble would start so the files played perfectly B4 converting them using the software.I take ur advice and try 2 download the latest version. Also i have just bought an 'Advance' 512mb mmc and it shows total size as 495.2 mb also my 128mb shows as 122.2mbm, i know its normal, but why is that?

  • How do you create a password for your memory card? I have tried creating a password, but the phone needs a paasword first before I can create one. There is no password on the memory card, as the phone do not need a password when you enter it.

  • this phone is great. i have a few questions though. yesterday i upgraded my nokia 6230 v4.44 to a v5.50 is 5.50 the latest? another thing the guy mentioned to me was that my nokia was "made in china" and its a big risk if i update it, is that true or is it BS? i upgraded it anyways, and my phone is fine, but i have a nokia 6230b which has fw v5.35 and its also made in china, and i dont want to risk it breaking if i upgrade or downgrade the fw. my last and final question is, before the upgrade to 5.50, my phone had a "IM" instant messenger application, after the upgrade i dont have it anymore, is there a way i can get this program? and put it back on the menu list? does anyone know what that application is called? i have it on my 6230b as well. but now my 6230 newly upgraded, does not have it. anyways, thanks.

  • To SHOLA: Have you ever assigned a password to your memory card ?

  • To SHOLA: I had that problem before and the only way I was able to fix the problem was to repeatedly take out the memory card and put it back in.

  • To LEWY: Well Lewy as I said before any firmware below 5.24 will show a 1GB MMC as 80MB but you can still store up to 1GB worth of data on the memory card. Go ahead and put in a 1GB your phone can handle it.

  • My phone fell down and the memory card was locked, I ve tried everything that I knew about it. what i can do ? to regain the memory card.

  • its second hand and it is v 4.28

  • To LEWY: The answer to your question is YES, your phone can read a 1GB MMC. The fact that you just purchased your 6230 I suspect you would have gotten the latest firmware which is 5.50. However, once you have v5.24 or later you will see the correct statistics for your memory card which includes capacity, used and free space. As I said before firmware 5.50 is the latest, which you may have seeing that you just got your phone. Use the procedure I told you about yesterday in order to know which firmware your phone has then you can know what to expect when you check the MMC statistics. I have a 1GB memory card and with my 5.24, the phone tells me that the total capacity is 991.2MB (which is normal due to file system etc.). I have a Transcend 1GB. What brand MMC (MultiMedia Card) do you have in mind to use with your phone ?

  • thanks O_Jamaican. i probably wont get my firmware updated because i dont want to stuff it up. I have just bought a nokia 6230 and i want to no if a 1gb mmc is capable in the 6230. please reply thnks

  • To TMP: To learn more about phone screens you can also check out this link:

  • To TMP: TFT: Thin Film Transistor CSTN: Color Super-twist Nematic Let me be frank with you, AVOID all CSTN screens preiod! This is a weaker and cheaper technology compared to TFT. Phones which implements CSTN technology in their screens are very slow. Slow response time when accessing the menu, dialling a number (especially from the SIM Card) and just doing general activities within the phone. To make matters worse CSTN screens are illegible in the sun. When you are in the sun you won't be able to make out anything on the screen UNLESS you have bionic eyes. TFT (Thin Film Transistor) technology blows away STN/CSTN technology by a wide margin. First of all, the reaction time in which items are displayed on a TFT screen is much faster...reason being TFT has built in circuitry in the screen so it doesn't have to draw and redraw each image/text. Secondly everything seen on a TFT screen is clearer and thirdly you can make out pictures and text clearly enough even in the scorching sun. As you can see, the TFT has some vast improvements over CSTN, BUT one advantage that CSTN has over TFT is less power consumption so your cell battery will last longer if that cell phone has a CSTN screen. CSTN phones are cheaper as well that's why you are bound to find the lower-end colour phones with a CSTN display. Stick with TFT if you want first class quality.

  • To JUDE: To troubleshoot your problem the first thing I'm going to tell you to do is to send the files to your phone BEFORE converting them and see if they play fine, that is, the files you download from the internet. If they play fine before converting them go ahead and convert them after and see if the problem arises (no sound, restarting etc.). This troubleshooter only applies to files you download from the internet. If the original downloaded file plays perfectly and the converted file plays with glitches then the problem PROBABLY lies within the EASY CD-DA CONVERTER program. I use this program and it's flawless for me. I have version 10 which I believe is the latest. My version is the full version, no trial thing right here. You can probably visit the site and get a later version and see if it solves the problem. In regards to the earphone question, I'm not really a headset fan so I don't even use the pre-packaged one that came with my phone...only in certain circumstances. What I did however, was to check Nokia's site to see the latest earphones which are compatible with Nokia 6230 and I picked this one: "Nokia Boom Headset HDB-4" and this is what Nokia have to say about it: This modern headset comes with basic handsfree functionality and a convenient over-the-ear concept providing excellent audio quality. I would give it a try because it not only provides stereo but apparently good bass as well. Take care until we speak again. Take care JUDE.

  • To LEWY: The phone's software is the operating system for the phone and a more official title for this type of software is called firmware. Look at it this way, look at it as a Windows operating system for a computer, only in this case it's a Windows for your phone. Whenever you change the phones software / firmare you get different features and in some cases faster responses. You can check your firmware by typing *#0000# in standby mode. I will use my firmware data as an example as to what you will see: Nokia 6230 v 05.24 -> This is the firmware of your phone 25-11-04 -> Date the firmware was released RH-12 GSM P1.1 (c)NMP There's more information below all that which you will see if you press the key but you need not worry about that, that information is for the smaller brother Nokia 6230b deigned to work in the U.S. Nokia 6230 firmware started at 3.15 as far as I know (somebody correct me if I'm wrong) and it's now up to 5.50. I have tried quite a few including 5.50 but I'm most satisfied with 5.24. 5.24 was the first major upgrade and to me it's still the best. Even though 5.50 is the latest 5.24 has two things over it, in my opinion, speed and better clarity from the camera. Lewy, you can ONLY update your firmware (this process is also known as 'flashing the phone') via special cables and a special type of electronic box which is expensive for the average consumer. The best way to get an upgrade done is to take your phone to a Nokia Center, who will do the upgrade for you free of charge if you phone is still under warrantly, otherwise they will charge you a small fee. There are also other 3rd parties who will flash your phone for you. The easiest way to locate these type of people is to check your nearest phone repair shop. Hope you have a better understanding of the whole firmware and flashing terminologies. Take care.

  • To NAGLIA: Sorry about the delay in replying to you. In theory 1.3 Megapixel cameras are SUPPOSED better than VGA cameras...BUT seeing is believing and I have seen where my 6230's VGA camera outperformed a 'STAND-ALONE' 3.2 Megapixel camera (a full digital camera, NOT a camera phone). I know it's hard to believe but it's true. The problem with that particular 3.2 Megapixel camera is that the photos lacked colour and the pictures had a dull look. When you compare photos between my 6230's VGA camera and that stand-alone camera my pictures are rich and colourful. I never thought I would ever see a camera phone camera beat a full featured stand-alone camera. Naglia, don't expect the same results if you compare a 6230's VGA camera with every 1.3 & 3.2 Megapixel because I know for a fact that if you compare the 6230's VGA camera to a 'Canon' stand-alone, whether it be 1.3 or 3.2 Megapixel, the 6230 would be laid to rest 6ft. under. The stand-alone camera I compared my phone's camera with was a Concorde brand. Canon is the leader in digital cameras. For the most part though, Megapixel cameras, whether camera phones or stand-alone normally OUTCLASSES VGA cameras. As for taking pictures in the dark, I have never tested the quality of a non-flash megapixel camera so that I cannot answer...at the moment. Stick a pin and I will get back to you on that one. Take care NAGLIA (smile)

  • to original jamaican yh iv seen the differnece in my 6230i and 6230 seems easier to use in folders and so on...but 6230i is a pain just to make a folder and moving stuff...

  • hi. im not a high tech person so i have a question. What are you talking about when you say software 5.24 and 5.50? i dont no what this means so please explain. thanks heaps lewy

  • To Original Jamaican, Hey there dude am a 6230i user version 3.88, and boy do I wish we had u over on our opinion side. Wen I was buying my phone I had the choice to choose btwn my phone and the Sony Ericsson K750 & while sometimes I regret not buying the SE, with its 2 mp camera & all, wen I read ur inputs and praises 4 this phone I dont regret anymore. Anyway I wanted to know what software u could recommend for audio conversion e.g. mp3 to aac etc and weather its free to download over the net. Am asking coz my friend gave me a software to try out called easy cd-da extractor a 30 day trial version and while it converted very easily wen I load the converted files to my phone (aac and mp4) my phone would sometimes play the file without any sound then restart its self then on a second attempt it would play the file without problems then wen I try it later on the same story all over again. This only happens only with the files that I converted with that software, the rest work like a charm even CDs that I rip using nokias audio manager in 2 aac format are brilliant. Pliz ur input will be appreciated. I also wanted to know the headsets that u use with ur 6230, do u use nokia headsets or do u use a nokia audio adapter. Thanks in advance.

  • To 786: 786, thank you for helping out SHA but never dare leave out the 'version 2' part of the 6230's Operating System platform. This Series 40 platform is much more of a pleasure to use compared to version 1. It also provides more flexibilty, more features and very convient use of older features eg. being able to create a folder no matter where you are in the gallery, even if you start a 'file move' process and realised that you didn't create a folder prior to you beginning the 'file move' process. I find this very handy if you are transferring a file from internal memory to MMC and you reach deep into the MMC just to realise that you want the file in a folder of it's own, you can create a folder without restarting the file move transfer again from square one. Series 40 version 2 aka S40v2 makes a world of a difference compared to Series 40 version 1.

  • to sha this symbian version is Series 40 "non symbian" its a simple easy to use platform..i think its the best platform

  • thanks a lot for the info..... O_Jamaican.

  • to original_jamaican thanks..i can play mpeg4"s on my 6233 since its got a big screeen and stuff...il download the converter so it can play the codec ones....thanks for the advice original_jamaican..

  • To 786: The 6230 *DOESN'T* play direct MPEG-4 files. However, it WILL play 3GP files encoded with the MPEG-4 codec. To break it down for you: some software tools used to create 3GP files will allow you to either use a codec called H.263, another codec called MPEG-4 and in some cases, a codec called X-VID. The 6230 ONLY supports H.263 and MPEG-4. If you should encode a video file using the X-VID codec it WON'T work when you try to open the file on the phone. The H.263 codec is the best overall codec based on my findings because when you encode video files at a high bitrate, especially large video files, in using MPEG-4 the video sometimes stagger a bit and show little square boxes when the camera change from a scene. With the H.263 codec the video normally runs smoothly even if it was encoded at a high bitrate. Some programs allow you to manually enter a bitrate while others only allow you to use pre-selected bitrates. Bitrates can start from 1kbps to about 512kbps. If you are serious about video quality DON'T select anything below 128kbps and try not to go as far as 512kbps. 512kbps is a very high bitrate and the video, regardless of which codec you use, will drag every now and again during playback...in addition to that, too high a bitrate drains your battery more quickly and stresses the phone processor. For the record, I use 128kps for good quality and adequate battery life and 216kbps for high quality while compromising the battery life a bit. The choice is yours BUT follow my guidelines. This whole video thing can be confusing though because 3GP files should have a .3gp file extension BUT there are some cases where you will find files labelled as MPEG-4 which works with the phone. These files have a .mp4 file extension. The ONLY reason why these files work is because they have a trace of 3GP encoding in them, that's the only conclusion I can think of. I have received .mp4 files from other phones which worked easily on my phone. However, these .mp4 files that work with the Nokia 6230, if you should check the details of the file using your phone options, you will see the text in the details saying that the format of the file is 3GP. My advice, if you come across a MPEG-4 file and really want it, send it to your phone and cross your fingers because it will either work or don't work. It all depends on how the file was encoded and we CAN'T tell just by looking at the file. It's simply a trial and error procedure. There's nothing more I can say in regards to this topic. I have said all I could possibly say. Keep me posted. Take care 786.

  • To PREM: I have used version 5.35 a few times on a friend's 6230. I saw no problems. In fact, you may mistake it for 5.24 based on the speed and trouble free operations. In comparison to 5.50, 5.35 still beats it in terms of overall phone speed, that may be the only thing it beats 5.50 at. Regardless, I still think 5.24 has an advantage over the other firmwares so I personally stick to 5.24. Hope my answer was helpful PREM. Take care.

  • does 6230 support MPEG4 does it play MPEG4"s..????

  • Hi O_Jamaican what'bout Version 5.35 for this mobile. is it better or worse than 5.24 & 5.50?????? Thanx in advance.

  • To Sudin: Based on my personal experience reverting back to 5.24 from 5.50 WON'T damage your phone. I'm not saying it's impossible but it's hard for software to damage hardware. Sudin, if you currently have 5.50 and want to try 5.24 go ahead and don't worry about a thing. In regards to the earphone question, I checked Nokia's site to see the latest earphones which are compatible with Nokia 6230 and I picked this one: "Nokia Boom Headset HDB-4" and this is what Nokia have to say about it: This modern headset comes with basic handsfree functionality and a convenient over-the-ear concept providing excellent audio quality. I would give it a try because it not only provides stereo but apparently good bass as well. Take care until we speak again.

  • nokia 6230 is a very reliable phone with a good battery and great performance

  • To Original Jamaican: Thanx for ur help. I tried 512 mb MMC memory card of kingston and it works cool. Now i dnt need my mp3 player. Only 1 thing i want next is that a good headphone or earphone which gives good sound n stereo sound. I am using HDS-3 earphone. Its sound is very good.
