Hi, well i own this phone since about 5 months and i can say it's quite awesome if you like phones with buttons instead touchscreen. To answer your questions: 1: No it doesn't show your messages in a cue like skype or other chats. For this consider eg. Blackberry Pearl 9500 or Android Phones. 2: Yes you can charge it via USB but it won't get over 40% Battery charge. I'm not sure if it works when it is switched off. But i recommend buying the USB car charger with the dual USB output from Nokia. There is just one big disadvantage that i noticed: the connector for the headphones is not really built for much movement. When you have it in you Jeans-pockets it will loos connection quite often and you can't use different models than from nokia (reversed cable polarity). It's better to úse the bluetooth headset. At begining phone seemed to be awesome but as time passed (2012) the condition of the phone is like throwing it into the garbage .because the phone suddenly started showing blank outs for almost 1 or 2 mins then automatically becomes alright and this use to mostly during a call or hearing music, browsing net but after somedays started going off then i changed the battery and still it was the same as before , then i gave for repairing after repare it was okay for a week then same synmts showed back again .if it was a china made then i could be understood but its orignal made by nokia .. the phone truely it has all the features that i really want and is reallly good but due to these stupid problem i'ad to replace it by buyin new phone . but i feel i'd done a stupidity buying it for I'd to change it aftr some time..........

This phone is awesome when it works. It's less than 1 year and it has died completely. Have arranged for it to be repaird under warranty. Be warned, the build quality is not good. The phone fell from the table because it was ringing and vibrating and the screen cracked! (pretty flimsy). It lost all my contacts (so make sure you back up!). When you're browing the net, it frequently 'blanks out'. Pretty disappointed. This is the first Nokia that has given me so many problems. Have been a Nokia user since the very beginning.

We all know it doesn't have multitasking or even a document viewer & it has cheap plastic build but if you're a nokia fan, this is one of the best from them. I just bought that phone few days ago. so far so good & price is reasonable. GPS is free & able to connect to WIFI easily. No SIM card & screen problem. loud speaker very nice. Should be catogorized as a good phone.

Chapter # 3 Hi, I fix the problem ,know all the phone is working OK, is nice and easy, but so many steps to go online, and the GPS is not for free .... :-( but work ok with google maps. But the guy how write before is right no suport from nokia customer care. I you already have it, ok, but if you are thinking buy one, better go for another model or brand. My friend bought the sonyericsson G-705 and is so so happy with it, that was my first option , but I did not know why I change my mind at the last minute ...

I just buy one last week, work fine and is very nice and interesting, only have to follow the instructions. I was going yesterday to the Nokia shop in my city to buy this mobile, and the salesman advised me not to buy this set as it has problem with the screen and there is no fix for it yet and he recommended 6600i slide to me instead !!! actually I use my cell to access the web through a wireless connection, sometimes the mobile catches a signal but when it's so weak the access will not be possible ... so you need to be kinda close to the wireless connection, and if it has a password you should know. and that's all i know about it sorry if it didn't help bye ...

Hi maged ... Nokia 6260 slide is a v good choice if u r a fan of the series 40 phones. It is practical, not so expensive, the software is fast, and it has all the qualities u need. ( the camera is 5 mega pixle-the screen has 16m colors-it supports mp3 ringtones-wifi & bluetooth are available ... ) But ... It doesn't have much programs and themes on the web. And it's not a smart phone like the Nseries for example.

To update the software ... First you need to have the USB cable that connects ur phone with the computer, then u've to download the NOKIA SOFTWARE UPDATER from nokia website. I don't know if GSMARENA allows this but here's the link to download the updater After downloading and installing the program, connect ur phone with the computer ... start the program ... and it'll give u the instructions that u need to follow. Unfortunately the phone doesn't support .sis files even if it's up-to-date. a VIP note: just in case ... backup everything u have on ur phone ... even the contacts numbers. Some themes change the tones that u chose, so it's better to use the original nokia themes or download them from good websites like ownskin or zedge, u can also download any .nth themes for other phones like 5610 xpressmusic and use them for ur 6260 slide. I wish this could help u

hi everybody ... I've recently purchased the Nokia 6260 Slide mobile, but there's this problem that keep annoying me! Each time I change the ringtone and the message alert tone, the mobile automatically changes them to the original ones. I've tried some ways that I thought will work like making my own profile, and transferring the tones I want from the memory card to the phone memory ... but all this didn't help =( If anyone faced the same problem and has an answer ... plz help Thanx Alot

I have the phone since June, I take every day, and listen to music, and I charge the phone every 3 days, so the battery is great, I have no problem with the green and red button , in the beginning is a little bit hard to get use with them but after a wile the are ok., poor audio, what ?? sorry I think ur phone is faulty , my nokia 6260 slide has superb sound , I use the player a lot and is laud and clear , and the loud speaker is greet I use it in my car wile I am driving as a hands free

The very respectable and 'advertised' Nokia 6260 slide BATTERY TALK TIME is certainly not 6 hours as supposed! I have to charge every day too even after only 20-30 mins daily talk time :(

Poor audio unfortunately, sounds like a cheap radio (as opposed to my previous Nokia 6233 which had superb stereo sound). The 6260 slide is listed as having stereo sound so i cannot understand how on 3 diff handsets the audio on music for example sounds so distorted and poor. With previous Nokias, no problems, with the 6260 i have had a myriad of problems :(

Is there anyway to set a screensaver? On startup it displays date and time which goes off after a few seconds. Can't find a way to enable the screensaver.

just bought it 3 days ago.i think its ok but the problem comes with texting.it has small keypads that makes me press the wrong keys!so if you have big fingers,i suggest dont get his one.

Yes, it does make it more difficult to find themes. I'm using a Nokia N80, 352 x 416 pixels, and normal themes won't work on the phone.

I experienced problems with this phone (firmware v 04.36): - When accessing bluetooth menu, the phone hangs for about 2-3 seconds. And then (luckily) resumes normaly. - The phone cannot finished back up process via pc suit application (usually hangs near completion). - There's no setting for display time out (though sometimes the 'time out watch' displayed randomly). Anybody has the same problem here?

Hi, i am very Happy withe this phone,i bought thise phone last week 1 i like very much the s40 , not so much the s60 2 the camera is very very good 3 the display is very good under the sun 4 when you are on a call the sound is very clear and loud , same for the loud speaker 5 the battery is good 6 is not a finger print magnet 7 the keys are big,you are not going to pres the wrong number 8 you can use as a mp3, the media player is very good 9 has wlan but the screen is to small to surf the net , at lest for me , i use glasses 10 has gps but you need to install the program. I currently have a Nokia E65. I set the device up to connect to 802.11b/g networks when available and check my email every 30 minutes. However it has one very annoying quirk! Occasionally when the phone was trying to check my email it would fail, and DISABLE the automatic email check! I think it would do this when it was trying to check and I then left the 802.11b/g signal area. This defeats the purpose as I then have to manually check it to make sure it's checking for new emails next time I enter a 802.11b/g area. So my question is - has anyone who has used this phone experienced this? I was thinking of upgrading to the Nokia 6260 slide for the GPS feature and its small form factor, but I'd hate for it to have this quirk as well.

why would anyone ask about LG in Nokia forum? nearly all who ever owns a LG hates it almost immediately, myself included. try the LG touch screen phone, its the worst ever, sluggish and sticky. besides this Nokia 6260 has 5 mp Carl Zeiss camera. Nokia may be slow in catching up with the rest but they make sure they iron out any issues before releasing it.

you can't compare those..compare smartphone with smartphone n 5mp with 5 mp..if i were you i would choose n81 because of the symbian..but recently n81 (ordinary) hadn't been produced anymore..if you wanna have 5 mp with symbian n slider form may be g810 could be another option..if you like candybar form choose n79..

You're absolutely right! Another thing I like with S40 is the home screen layout for wallpapers and screensavers; with S40 all text appear behind the wallpaper which fills the entire screen while it only appears partially on S60, leaving the large annoying space on top of the screen, the top bar for signal and battery. So this is by far the best S40 or rather the best Nokia I would love to own especially for the document viewer, a first for an S40, just what I've been asking them in my posts @ Forum Nokia. I own the 6234 which I upgraded from S40 v3 to v5 last year via the internet and the 6260 will be my next upgrade. No N or E-Series for me. For smartphones I like WinMo.

Hi All, I bought the phone, at last. However, I was disappointed!! Features and performance wise, the phone is OK. I would rate it 8 out of 10. Camera for still shots is perfect with Average quality mediocre 15 frame/second QVGA video. Awesome 240*320 Display. However, The worst thing about it is the build!!! Plastic!!! It has a strange fingerprint-prone cheap looking front. It's all in plastic except for the back cover that is aluminum. Moreover, The assembly is noticeably poor. You can notice a mellimeter gap here and there. Specifically in the Keypad. If it is lit, you can see the light coming from the lower gap between the keypad and the plastic frame it is embedded in!!! Not to mention the annoying plastic ticks sound you get when you use the D-pad or any other key. A strange thing as well is that you can not rotate the screen in important applications like office products and internet browser! I don't want to be offensive. However, i am starting to feel that Nokia Chinese products do not go through the thorough QA Process Finnish products go through. A simple comparison between the 6260 and the famous 6300 would give you that feeling. Khateeb.

This is the Top Notch S40 Release 6 mobile. The first from nokia to be equipped with this operating system and having wifi. S40 Operating systems have a lot above S60 in general. Much more user friendly and natural rational menus. Of course S60 has multitasking and is usually installed on a much better processor. However, S40 preponderates S60 in the following: 1. The time is only visible on the home screen of S60, this isn�t the case with S40 where the time is everywhere. 2. You get a preview of the themes in S40 when scrolling by them, they don�t appear in S60 unless you preview them. 3. S40 lets you record your phone calls out of the box, you need third party tools to do this in S60. 4. S40 has this menu view where you don�t have to bury to find features. It is similar to the menu system on a Sony PSP. 5. The calender on S40 blows S60 out the water. You can set call reminders, there is more information visible in the month view and it takes fewer clicks to add information. 6. In S40 Profiles are timed, and you don't have to exit the profiles menu to activate the profile like in S60. 7. The standby screen on S60 has a limited number of icons on top and very little calendar information compared to S40 which has no such limit on the number of shortcuts and has a rich calender view. 8. Ability to insert a contact detail in a message in S40. S60 doesn't have that. 9. S40 Log will allow you to view all calls in one log with the option to see Incoming, outgoing and missing separately. S60 has the separate views only. 10. S40 has the ability to let you send a text message to the most recent people you�ve already sent a text message to. S60 does not have this.

I bought this phone to slightly upgrade from the 6600 slide.Got it finally...but getting rid of it.Nice phone over all but..the navi key is very sensitive and the side keys (beside the navi key) are very not sensitive.The keypad feels like microvawe keys..just too plasticy.otherwise its a great phone but holding onto my 6600 slide because of the lesser dimentions and i can live without wifi.(Who keeps a router open these days anyway???)

Great specs but absolutely wasted on S40. The large screen, GPS, HSDPA, HSUPA and user available Wi-Fi are brand new features for any S40 handset and the HSD/UPA speed surpasses any S60 handset. This is also the first Nokia with this screen resolution. Apart from the badly chosen OS it is a good phone.

You can compare the features and choose the one you need. S8300 is better in terms of form factor, looks more solid. Don't forget the touchscreen. 6260 is more all-rounder, with Symbian O/S. It pretty much depend on your need, taste, and impression for both brand. Remember, no phone is perfect... Happy buying !

I carry this phone as a proto for a few months now. (I work for Nokia in Europe). It's one of the best Series 40 phones I've worked with in many years. Upgraded hardware features and a very sleek design. Tried and true Nokia UI, Open Source browser (same browser core as Safari). The 4 way scroll is force sensitive mainly for use in the browser (moving the cursor) oh, did I forget to mention the cursor? and the 4 way scroll is also used for the GPS maps. You have to subscribe to GPS. Nokia now owns Navteq so if I understand it correctly you pay Nokia the subscription fee for GPS (not your carrier). The phone contains a 5 mega pixel camera. In my experience it shoots very nice photos. I do not know (and if I did I could not reveal) the carrier/country that will carry this phone. I think Nokia should market this phone aggressively. I give this phone a 10 in design, an 8 in features (because I wish it had touch screen and orientation sensitive UI, and a 10 in performance because the performance is fantastic and that includes the battery life with WIFI active but not bluetooth. I'm starting to sound like a bon-a-fide reviewer.

i dont think that S40 phones are slower than S60 because they have to boot less of the programs inside the phone for start up and all....although if you talk in terms of multi tasking then only S60 are better. Otherwise for simple calling, music, and games....S40 is what u need. They have lesser problems as compared to S60 phones.

The map data is installed on the phone. The GPS receiver in the phone communicates directly with the GPS satellite and tells the phone what your position on the map is - no internet conection req'd.

I believe this phone is a lot like the 6220 and the 6210 personally the lack of features comparing to those two models is weird due to the pricetag it would obtain personally I wouldn't wait on the phone go for 6210 3.2 mega-pixel camera yet uses symbian and has a gps or 6220 has a 5 megapixel camera and is easier to use but I am an iPhone man typing this review on my iPhone :)

Personally, it reminds me of the 6265i, I used to have. I miss that phone. Mostly because it's a slider but also because it shares a lot of the same features, only improved. Granted, the physique of the 6260 looks somewhat cheap, I would still like to see how it does and would like to see it come with a battery that does better than the 6265. Cause, even though it rocked in the 6265i, I'm sure the 6260's strength would kill it. So, all-in-all, I'm anxious to see how this phone does. And even more anxious to see if Cellular South gets it. I hope so. Cause everything else they have is crappy. Only improvements I can see are that the phone's frame and body should be more sound and simple, yet sleek and sophisticated. And if the battery isn't nearly as good as the specs say it is, and it's actually a very bad battery for this phone, then it should be improved, as well.

This isnt camera phone or smartphone to have additionally xenon. How many phones have xenon anyway? N82 and few other. Persnally for me this maybe the perfect phone to date with compact size, better resolution, and first nokia with HSUPA for high uplink bandwidth and lowest latency for internet. The only thing I miss is at least 2.6" screen and 3.5 audio as imroovement from my n73 for movies, inet browsing and music. So cant wait for this phone.

Maybe you're right, Bl-5F isn't a very powerful battery but N96 is a power hungry device. Don't compare it with 6260slide cause the last one has fewer functions, smaller display and lacks Symbian so needs much less power. I think the battery will be ok for this phone. By the way I think Bl-5F is a good battery, a friend has an E65 eith that battery and it lasts 3 days and he texts a lot of SMS plus some talks and photos

Hi guys, just a note of extreme caution regarding this phone. I am a Nokia fanatic and am seriously brand loyal to them. I have used other brands too (Sony Ericsson, Moto, Samsung etc). However I would advise anybody getting this phone as it uses the same battery as the Nokia N96 - Li-Ion 950 mAh (BL-5F)-. I have a Nokia N96 which is an excellent phone but the battery is poor requiring charging on a daily basis. This is not good enough. I had a Nokia N95 8 gig before and this was an excellent phone with a superb battery. I charged it once every 4 days. To conclude, avoid the N96, this phone Nokia 6260 and any Nokia phone with a 950 BL - 5F battery. This is Nokias worse battery. All the others are okay. No other battery will fit my N96 so I'll get rid of the phone within the next two weeks. Maybe I'll get an E71 which has a tremendous battery. You have been warned.

One of the most useful tools in Nokia phones is the Go To list (not included in Symbian phones). I want a phone with great features not a computer in my pocket. To compare the S40 and Symbian 60 some things must be said: I had a Nokia 6230 with the nice S40 and now I have 6120 with the poor Symbian 60. If the Symbian 60 should be the better choice then pls somebody tell me W H Y : - aren't shown the call numbers in the eventlogs? - can't I copy the calendar events? - can't I make the convenient "call" event in the calendar (then to push only one button to call somebody)? - can't I setup a radio-alarm? - can't I set the snoozing time? - can't I switch on snoozing with all but one button when the alarm goes on? - can't I make (provider) free call barring? - and so on, and on, and on... S40 is more user friendly than no question the better choice!!! The 6260 device is ugly enough and unfortunately a slider too, but it has finally all the features to beat back the Symbian 60 to the ground. Be careful Folks, Symbian 60 is marketing pure nothing else!!!

I was really disappointed when I realized it is an S40, not an S60! It has almost everything, but it lacks the most important - Symbian OS! That is a great disatvantage.

well have'nt used this phone but still I m pretty much sure that its not going to perform better than N82 Bcoz N82 is better in all aspects and overall MOTO ZINE is another better option with better battery backup and stunning camera quality.....and also its one of the fastest phones with 500 MHz processor and dosen't have any hanging probs.... Zine (moto Zn5) has much better looks with scratchproof flat and lusturous body....and most imp the best OS --- that is LINUX......So I will recomend Zn5 to all as a better option....

This is a new S40,read the details it almost as good as an S60 and more customise friendly,plus,i've never seen a higher screen def than that.As for best phone platform,i've tried them all,windows remains the most logical choice but too virus sensitive and crash too often,as to file finding after receiving trough bluetooth,it's a nightmare.Symbian crash much less often and perform faster.But with the 6260,a screen like that plus the 5mp plus the Carl Zeiss lens,SonyE lovers of 8mp with get green with jealousy as their screens are crap.Unless they go around with prints of course.But in black though,the grey colour is dreadful

actually,it's more about the size of the CCD,the bigger the better,AND the quality of the lens.no need to be a tech nerd,look at the most expensive cams and most sought after by pros,the SLR,the cam body is huge and lenses can go up to 10 times the body cam size and up to 50 times the price.So cram a little of everything in a small package like a phone and you'll only get average pics,which i don't mind,as long as the screen of that phone is superb enough to enjoy them.

S60 offers you a more programmable platform to work with as opposed to S40 which is more personolizable, my god,beautiful words.S60 offers you to run dif apps together while you can't have that with S40 and that's a pain.I've had the 2 platforms and i can't say i've found enough really good programs to boast about to prefer an S60 over an S40.While the S40 is a treat for wallpapers for instance,just chose the pic and voila,you have it full screen,while with the S60 you need to pass the pic through a theme making process,and if you chose an animation for wallpaper,know that the top and bottom of that pic won't move at all.So to conclude,i'm quite interested in this new S40 because so far,S40 has been for girls and S60 for guys.Is this a sexist comment ? no,girls tend to still want plain and simple phones with particularly good looks but leave their phone rarely in the open,while guys go crazy about what they can do with their new piece of tech.

in response to the individual who wants nokia to produce an 8mp phone: the truth is, the quality of the 5mp photos from nokia devices such as the n95 and n82 is better than those taken with the 8mp cams that samsung has released. remember,the number of mp dictates the size of the photo, and although this may mean slight improvement in quality due to more pixels, quality is mostly derived from proper settings and photo processing.

There is no way to get around battery loss through the use of WiFi or GPS. Also, S60 is the Symbian smartphone OS on most N-series phones. The S40 is the simpler Nokia OS like on the 6300 etc..

Hey consumer. camera on phones are just for random shooting and 5mp is enough for a full A4 size photo print. if you want high resolution cams for Professional photography. just get a Canon Digital IXUS. how unprofessional if one uses their mobile for pro photography. remember a phone is a phone not a DSLR Camera.

hey dude, its not waste. producing phones with 3G support is a plus. countries such as Korea and Japan uses only UMTS 2100mhz band, so even you have a Quad-Band GSM phone it work work there. it only supports 3G for voice and data. so having a Dual Mode (GSM + 3G) phone is always better.

First off, the battery is very okay. This is s40, not s60. I have a nokia 5610xm which has a 900mah battery and it lasts for a good 4 days. Secondly, nokia phones that use the 950mah battery like n95, 6210navigator, etc (except n96) can also use the 1200mah battery found in n78, n79, etc. The battery life of the 6260slide is duly covered.

Impressive specs. Although I am still baffled as to why Nokia insists on a 2.5-mm audio jack. Why not 3.5mm? RIM has been doing it for ages! Why inconvenience the consumer with having to purchase an adapter, just so better earphones could be used? If they must insist on this, why not include the adapter as part of the sales kit? I really like this phone. I'm not using S40 anymore (my last phone was a 6230 but I upgraded to S60 last year) but this phone has everything most people want. I think the screen'll be a pleasure to watch, only imagine an iPod touch resolution screen but shrinked to 2.4 inches, just awesome!

If you dont want the phone, get an n79, n82, 6210 or 6220c. They are around the same price bracket. Secondly, if they did like you asked, im sure there will be someone else complaining of nokia duplicating their already existing phones. Besides, i think this is a great step up for s40 phones. At least it comes with wifi, a good screen, a good camera, gps and many other goodies. Stop focusing on what it doesnt have and be thankful for the goodies it has.

good thing nokia decided to make the right resolution to a 2.4 inch screen. i mean the nokia n96 has a 2.8 inch screen but it only have a 230x320 res. so it looks bit bad. GO 6260!!!

Im the first to comment this phone. It definitely looks ugly. Nokia should think better on creating new & different phones, i dont understand why they are repeating same models, with new features?? They are just releasing the phones that they want, they are not bothered about the user.

Love how Nokia is still keeping up its feature packed pwnage spree. This phone kills with its features, and I'm supposing it would be too exepnsive, its not like an N series. If this runs on S40 I would be disappointed, as Symbian is so much more versatile and stable. Still dont like the design of their new keypads... they look really odd.
