I know this reply is kinda late but just for info, like basic to all Nokia units, to activate wi-fi connection. Go to Menu - go to Connectivity - got to WLAN wizzard and it will search for available wi-fi click on your wi-fi and enter your preshared key. click on start web browsing. Hope this is helpful.

or this These are firmwares for your Asian 6710 navi phone. To change it's language to greek you'll need to have it flashed with firmware from your country's release. this probably won't match the details on the phone's sticker, but it make it work in your language. Hope this helped.

Over the past 3 years since my Navigator finally died(after numerous open heart surgery's, I've have 3 Sony E's(W995+W705, C905), a Samsung Omnia Pro, a BB Bold 9700(I think it was) and I now have BB Torch... and none of these phones(in my opinion) compared to the user friendliness, freedom and reliability of that navigator... I haven't come across another Nokia quite like the 6710 I had either... I don't know why Nokia haven't made more phones like this one... If nokia made a replica of the 6710 but with modern technology, then a killing could be made...

Go to setting, connectivity, select bluetooth. Scrol down to my phone visiblity and select shown to All. If it stil didnt work, then switch of the phone, afterwhich, press the cal key, key 3 and * at same time. This shld sove d prob

There's no prob. All u need 2 have is explore.(go to www.wapday.com, to download it) after installing d explore, open it, select drive C, click option, scrol down to tools, then messages, mark all the messages in drive C, select edit, then click on move, go back and click on E, watch n see hw al the markd files move to drive E. This frees the space in your phone memory and enables you to receive and download more files. Note, u can also create more folder using this explore. You 6710 navigator is jst like ur computer!

Ok if you have nokia ovi suite its even better in most cases you need to delete using your pc using this phone only it only remove whatever you delete from your face not actualy from phone. Connect it to pc and delete from pc not device its self clever neh?

dis device is great thats why nokia not supporting it , and leave the touch bar problem without solving it to make people leave it .... it has the best GPS device in all nokia phones. u can solve the touch bar problem by open it and remove the touch bar under "Navigator" word in the front ... then all the problem will be solved the keyboard and zooming in and out and the phone will work faster enjoy (",)

This was the worst Nokia i ever owned, absolute rubbish. It caused me more inconvenience then pleasure. Should have changed it in that first week, after having had 4 new phones in one week. It is almost time for a upgrade and no more Nokia's for me. My old 6110 was used most of the times as a back up when my 6710 went in for repairs.

Love the phone and features, excellent battery life, use ovi maps(excellent) and ovi sync. Call quality good. E-mail works well although slow. Thats the good part. Phone has been repaired 3 x the last time the body was replaced(new phone, now 18 months old. Sound was bad until software upgrade. Auto zoom feature fixed with repair 1. Software selection is confusing, too many useless icons. Once short cuts set up it's ok. It started freezing so changed theme and that seems to have fixed it ??? Intuitive text needs updating. Camera takes great photo's but the shutter button on the side is a pain - WHY ?. Photo setup is tedious even when you are used to it.

Nice compact size phone but unreliable. Malfunction couple times and had to take phone back Nokia centre for repair couple times and it's still not functioning 100 percent! I wanted this phone due the fact that it has an inbuilt GPS function but GPS sattelite pick up is so slow, it could take up to 10 minutes or more to pick up signal. As a result, the GPS function has become a useless function as I have not been using it. I will not buy Nokia brand phone again, very disappointed.

Got mine almost 2 years now. One of the worst phones ever build. Keeps on hanging, slow and the zoom bug. Push mail also don't work. Done software upgrade. No solution. I don't have time to send phone in. Why isn't there a proper software solution? Never a Nokia again. Got myself a Black Berry - My wife got one - no problems. you dont have to send the phone to nokia to fix the zoom problem. Clip off the front panel and and key pad, then mak e sure to wipe up all the glue. Off under it, as its the glue that abuser the ph to zoom in and out it sticks to the ribbon. Or you just GO on youtube and watch a video on how to clip off the panel and clean it.

Great phone once you have the Zooming issue resolved. Have your "Flex" replaced by Nokia outlets. This is the component that holds the two sliding pieces of the phone together, as it was manufactured with a weak one.

I have used thjs phone for 6 months. At the first month using it, i had problem with zooming bar. It zoomed in, out itself when i accessed internet, photo galery. It made me angry so many times. So, i searched google to fix thjs, then, the video on youtube instructed me h0w to repair the z00ming bar. It worked n0t bad. But s0metjmes jt stjll z00m jn jtself. I had to cut the z00m cable. After that, everythings was fine. It worked very smooth and well. I thjnk u sh0ud remove z00ming bar of thjs phone, because u can z00m in, out by volume button on the side, or navigator keypad .

Did you noticed that when connecting laptop to internet from the 6710 USB modem and using OviSuite you have only 384 kbs and using PC Suite you have only 115 kbs ? So, what's that 3,6 Mbps or even 7,2 Mbps that mobile operators tell about, it refers only at browsing on the phone ? Did you ever see 3.6 mbps on your laptop connected with phone?

I got a 3 MB free C memory(not RAM) when used QIK software and even uninstalling it and deleting its videos, didn't solved the problem, after deleting teh sent OVI emails and Internet cache I got 15 MB free ob C drive. I didn't noticed before, is it normal that i have only 15 MB free out from the 60 MB of C drive. Even with most of apps installed on E.

I have had my 6710 for about 6 months. I received it with the faulty zoom bug. I took it to my local Nokia service agent whom did an upgrade on the Phone and upgraded the firmware within a day. I have never had a problem with it since. The 6710 were released in 2009 and still have good technical specs today, its 3G modem is still equal to best Nokia has. I think the 5 mega pixel camera is overkill for a phone. To be honest I enjoy all the negative comments about it because it has made it the cheapest Smartphone available at R99 per month, that�s about 14$. One of my contracts is due for an upgrade so I will be getting another one.

As allot of other people I'm experiencing the same problem with the zoom, will watch the "fix" on you-tube. Is it only on my phone or does anybody else have the problem with texting & typing on facebook. I can type away & all goes well, but then suddenly the keys freeze & I have to press a 100 times before it accepts the letter. Is this a common problem or just on my phone?

i've just purchased nokia 6710 online a week ago.. yesterday, for the first time, i've tried to use the usb port to transfer data + charging. but it doesnt respond at all. i carefully pull out the usb and the usb port fall out together. i went to shop to fix this but he said it was unfixable. is this true? open the nokia, took me 2 hours at least to try to not break anything. put 2 tapes, didnt work, try to figure out, really need to cover the whole surface of the zoom with 2 layers of electric insulation tape(the black one).3 layers is too much but can be done, the plastic cover screen where it s printed "navigator" curves. no crazy zoom any more, and the phone works like a charm. internet wifi is very good as i can connect in the streets on open wifi, even call on skype (can install unofficial skype), GPS is great. can download download and read my email. no need to go on a pc to see if u have email. great phone if you dont have 3G and carrier. i want to throw away this phone, but now i keep it .I am in asia.

This was the worst phone Nokia could ever make. I had it for two days and the zoom function started working by it self, zooming in and out by it self, the phone was returnedand send away to Nokia, after three weeks I received the phone back with the same problem plus more. My phone started dropping calls and zooming in and out by it self. After the fourth phone Nokia gave me I bought a new phone also Nokia 2710 navigator, much better than 6710. Please don't buy this phone you are going to regret it.

i have had the phone now for 10 months and its the best phone i ever had! ok i had the zooming problem but that was because it was the old batch that got released on the market and i sent it in for repairs and they fixed the ribbon under the zoom bar. and after that no problem i just came back from a 1300km trip i did just on my gps did not bugger me around at all was very good!!! people complaining about the phone should probly go Blackberry(overrated) and stop sulking about the great Nokia Navigator

I love nokia - loved my old Navigator! Don't like this phone - got it March sent it in for repairs - got a new phone - same problem - zoom in and out all of the time and the keys doesnt work - I cant sent it in again because I cant be without a phone for more than 3 weeks again!!

Just purchased a 6710 Navigator. One frustrating feature - the zoom jumps between maximum and minimum just by moving ones fingue anywhere on the phone. Is this common?

I did not managed to detach fully the face as it sticked somewhere in the middle, some plastic clams I guess. Since I was afraid that breaking them would not allow me to mount it again, I went to a GSM service center and I simply asked them what to do, showing then also the pictures found here and they simply did the job for me for just 5 Euros ! Since then I wouldn't change my phone for everything else on the market ! Maybe for GAlaxy S, but does it worth the money ???

more like nokia DONT care centre. the guy i took my phone to was extremely rude. i told him about my issues and he said it was very unlikely i would be getting the phone replaced. this is the second time that i have had to put my phone in to be repaired. major inconvenience. will not be purchasing a nokia again and will be spreading the word of the issues and poor customer service from nokia with many others

I got the 6710 because it was the phone with the best specifications for the price. But mine had the �zoom bug� which made the GPS and internet unusable. My service provider was prepared to swap the phone with a different type. But I liked it so much I wanted to see if I could have it repaired first. I took it to my local Nokia service centre, GMS repair, in Bloemfontein, South Africa, it only took a day to do the Nokia prescribed mod and now it works perfectly!

You phone is faulty. Get it relaced under warranty. Go to Nokia Care and they will fix it or replace it.It is a common fault with the phone.

i have had the phone for 7 months and it went ones to rapairs for the zooming problem. and it came back fixed had no problems afterwords i have to say its the best phone i have ever seen it wifi is exillent and 3g are great gps works 100% everything about this phone is great!!!! very load speaker and can download many apps to mod the phone it has a exilent camera 2 and there is much more if you have a zooming problem it would make your keypad not respond but as soon as you send it for repairs they will fix that.... have fun with your phone because i cant stop

If ur 6710 is slow then u can either upgrade the software or format the phone,by holding call button * and 3 at the sametime bt the phne must b off and then b switchd on hold the buttons til the nokia on the screen gves a flash,if the coumtry suggestion doesnt cme up then u have formated it incorectly bt kp trying til u get it 2 wrk, the battery must b full,and mve all the data 2 ur mem crd cz it will b lost after formating.

I managed finally to open the face of the phone and cut the zoom bar and now the phone is working perfectly, it is very responsive, it really feels like a 600mhz cpu! If u can't open it, you just have to go to a service point and ask for that. And that warranty didn't serve you solving this problem, so why worry that you'll lose it, when your phone will work after that like a charm? If you love this phone do this, if not, sell it and quit complaining. BTW... by me magic key did not work !

No offence person but you have no idea what you are talking about. The zoom problem is not the auto zoom of the ovi maps, it's the random zooming of the defective zoom bar that causes every application which uses the zoom bar to zoom randomly. Have a look here:

They offer it to me in Spain for free now. I´ve read that Nokia has now enough pieces in the world to change the ones that gave the problems. I have all possible guaranties that I will have my problems solved or will be given another phones. The problem is that I like the phone and cannot find a similarly priced one with wifi, good camera, good display, not screen-touch... What do you think? Regards

Yes, sticky or unresponsive keys. Often unable to silence alarms. Zooms in & out by itself when using internet or camera so useless. Replaced after one month when Nokia gave back to me and no fixed. This one slightly better but not happy. Sometime cannot search contacts have to restart phone. Could send away again for repair but will they fix it ? Might be better to chuck it and try something else. Expensive piece of junk

Hi.i had Nokia N95-8G for 2,5 years,and few days ago,i had 6710 for 2 days.I really didnt liked that video recordin is just 15fps,becouse my video maden with N95,couldnt play normaly on this phone,it was braking up.The speaker really teribly low sound,i used to hear very loud my friends on N95 with loudspeaker mode.Then the memory card,very hard to take out or insert back,its sticks inn to deep.Other specif.is fine,just i had to return the phone,as it was with the fault,and second too,they didnt had third one,and in my city non left.

Hi 2 all the 6710 navigator users, i realy cant complain about t he 6710,5800xm,6210 navigator i had all the top of the range of nokia phones,i had the n95classic,n95 8gb,n82,n96,n70,n78,n79,n85,and i can just go on and on ,but the n 6710 is a very good handset if you just know how 2 use all the functions,only hand down,is the speaker,and 15fps,i miss the 30fps,but realy this hand set i will recomend 2 any fan of nokia user,and 4 the gps 10out of 10 realy i had a lot of phones,but this one suprised me,dont be shy if you are a owner of the 6710 navigator it is a good handset,never restarts,and very fast with the latest firmware.kind regards jp.

So I emailed Nokia SA who gave me a list of things to do no joy so Nokia said I should take it back to cell provider as HQ was to out of my way. I must then email then the job/reference number extra Nokia collected the phone from service provider after 2 weeks got phone back now it works fine no further complaints to report same battery now lasts 4 & 5 day now. Email Nokia SA will assist you. Ps: older firmware is better if you have it keep it.

I've had it for 10 months now, and in my experience I'm quite happy with it, it's very fast and easy to use, you can access almost everything with a couple of buttons, and about that zoom problem that everyone talks about, it only happen to me 1 day and i've fixed it by cleaning the screen, as easy as that. Hi everybody who's having trouble with the Nokia 6710 Nav's random zooming. I've tried a couple of approaches to this problem and I've figured this out; The reviewers who suggested magickey are correct but they do not give a comprehensive approach. Please note that these steps require you to reset your phone and possibly lose all data and settings you've made. If the magickey application can not be signed following these steps, I will not be to blame if it doesn't work or if data is lost. The fix comes at a price, you will not be able to use the zoom bar. Here's what I did (and it worked) You will need your phone's lock code, default is 12345 I suggest you do this operation side by side at a desktop computer and not attempt to do it on the phone's internet browser. You will have to use Mass Storage Mode between your phone and the PC with the data cable. It's important to do this step by step. 1)Type *#06# in standby mode to get the phone's serial number(IMEI), write this number down or save it somewhere where you will be able to find it again. 2)firstly, you need to download an unsigned copy of magickey to your computer, here's a link, any other link to magickey will do. Just paste this link in the address bar and it will download automatically; unzip this folder and copy the file "MagicKey_1.0_Unsigned.sis" to a location where you will find it again when needed. This "MagicKey_1.0_Unsigned.sis" is the only file you need from this zipped file. 3)go to ( ), click on "register" and register to the website. Log out and in again. 4)click on "Apply cer", fill in...NOKIA 6710...IMEI CODE...REPEAT IMEI CODE...6710nav...Press "Submit application" 5)at the top of the page, click on the underlined "My Certificate", you are taken to a page that shows your submission. 6)Click on the underlined "Signing" link. You are directed to a page where you can choose the file you wish to sign. click on "Choose File" and browse for the file "MagicKey_1.0_Unsigned.sis" you downloaded and extracted earlier. In "Remark", type "MKey01" and press "Submit and Upload" 7)Click "Download" and save the file "opda.cn_MKey01_MagicKey_10_Unsigned" somewhere on your phone's Memory Card via the data cable. 8)backup all the important files on your phone to the micro sd memory card and then remove the micro sd memory card.(will go back in after the modifications) 9)reset all the phone's memory by typing *#7370# in standby mode, have your phone's lock code nearby and enter it when it's asked(default lock code is 12345. The phone will switch off automatically. Switch it back on and skip installations, get to standby mode. 10)insert the memory card and open the file that you've saved on it "opda.cn_MKey01_MagicKey_10_Unsigned".­­ It should install and you should install it on your phone's memory. ASSUMING YOU'VE INSTALLED MAGICKEY SUCCESSFULLY 11)open MagicKey from your applications menu on your phone, press the right arrow to go to "KeyMap List". Press "Options", "Start On Boot". Then Pres "Options","Add[1]", enter map name "New" and press "OK". select "New", "Click to Add Key Pair", in [Original key, type "192"] and in [Maps to, type "20"] press "OK". Click on "Click to Add Key Pair" again,in [Original key, type "192"] and in [Maps to, type "20"] press "OK". Press Left arrow and click on "All Apps", select "New", exit MagicKey by pressing the "red phone button" Every time you switch your phone on, you will have to open, and close MagicKey. it really is worth all the effort. I Really Hope that you can figure this out.

Got my Navigator 3 weeks ago and ran into zoom and dysfunctional keys as most have been complaining about. Knowing the phone is very capable and I really like how it handles, I persisted. Nokia Care in Bangkok sorted out the zoom issue with a quick fix that handled all the dysfunctions; it is now very user-freindly. The Navigator's aesthetics and capabilities are simply outstanding; along with PC Suite and Ovi this is a fantastic tool.

This phone is a total dissapointment. I had it for less then a month when the usual problems kicked in. Trouble with software and zooming started almost immediatly. Phone was repaired, but the psycological damage was done. A pity i signed into a two year contract as from August 2010. I reverted back to my old 6110 - and still use my GPS. Execpt for the suspect casing the 6110 is a little gem.

My phone was sentback three times-each time optus gave a new phone-same faults - crazy zoomimg and unresponsive buttons on the screen- finally it was sent to Nokia and repaired-has not played up again. The fault was in the flexi cable between the base and the screen. Hope this helps someone.

My Nokia 6710 navigator is the worst phone nokia ever made. I have had nokia phones since 1993 and never had a problem with them until now. This phone has been in and out of repairs since i got it in January 2010. Eventually Vodacom because they couldnt fix the problem claimed the phone to be water damaged...how typial of them. i will never subscribe to Vodacom again after my contract is over (been a loyal subscriber for 8 years)And as for nokia if they want to continue having the support they currently have i suggest they refrain from producing inferior quality phones. Already people prefer blackberry and samsung. Nokia has lost it.

I suggest you don´t buy it! Got one last fall but bought a simple SonyEricsson T715 after a couple of months out of frustration over this very strange piece of work. Not easy to use, doesn´t want to download talking Swe language, loads of bugs, unlogical and inconsequent menu system. Not happy with it so I suggest for instance a SonyEricsson, which I wouldn´t have guessed me saying a couple of years ago.

I have this phone for 4 months now. It is flawless,, it has good value for money + a car stand/ charger/decent earphones,very nice navigation via 3.04 NM... It is a real smartphone for a fact within a reasonable price range, and I'm kindda geeky so you know what I want from a mobile phone. Alse the best bit is its OS, which does not lagg att all, even when scrooling pictures sizes of 1MB+ at very high speed, all in one device i think, like a new N95, just with better CPU and not that bulky...I know you will enjoy this phone, the only downside is not such a big keyboard, which can be compensated with T9 turned on, less typing then.... bought my phone in dec 2009 about 2mths ago it started zooming in & out automatically i took it into a nokia care centre for repairs and was told 3 days later that i had removed parts from the phone, thats why it was not working and i would have to pay R188.00 to have my phone returned to me and that the warrenty had fallen away. i approached Nokia Africa about the problem and was told by them that they were not intrested in my problem.

easy 2 fix the zoom problem take of the plastic face and cut off the zoom sensor and put the face back and problem is fix. I got 2 6710 and mine is fine now hehehe

Anybody had a problem with this phone to the likes of the phone keypad being locked but the phone can make calls but its keypad lock wont unlock. The phone could also not be turned off by the Power Button... Anyone else get this problem?

Sorry the website where certificate can be obtained is I haven�t done it jet as Nokia has my 6710 to fix the problem. They tell me this problem is very rare and are only aware of 1 & 2 other phones with this problem, can you believe these guys! When my phone is back an probably not fixed I will try magic keys myself.

Can anybody tell me if this adivce below will work? If you use the Nokia 6710 Navigator, most probably you will be having the zooming problem unless you are one of the lucky few. The zoom bar registers keystrokes randomly even though you are not touching the zoom area at all. This causes key and phone lockup. When using applications that support the zoom bar, the application zooms in and out randomly and incessantly that it is impossible to use the application. Among the symptoms of the zoom bar acting up are: � Constant and random zooming in and out while using Web browser, viewing pictures in Gallery, while using the Map, and while taking photos. � Keys randomly do not respond due to the keystroke buffer filling up because of random zooming keystrokes. � Phone randomly locks up for a while due to the zoom bar acting up. � Zooming happens randomly when you press the menu key, the call key, or the left and right shortcut keys. � Sometimes the call and menu keys do not respond. All they need to do is just enable an option in the firmware to disable the zoom bar. Problem solved All the zoom bar sensitive applications can still perform zoom in and out using the volume keys or other keys on the keypad anyway. So, how to solve this? Simple. Install MagicKey by Leftup and configure it to remap the keystrokes from the zoom bar to unsupported keys. Problem solved. Here are the steps to do it: 1. Download the MagicKey application, search it in Google and download from a forum where you have access. 2. If you do not have a developer certificate, apply one from OPDA. Register and apply for the certificate. Follow the instructions there. 3. Once you have the certificate, login and upload MagicKey. It will be signed. Download it. 4. Install MagicKey on your Nokia 6710. Better to install it on the Phone Memory instead of Memory Card so that it will always be there even if you remove the Memory Card. 5. Once installed, open MagicKey. It is in the Apps > Installat. folder. 6. In MagicKey, select Options. Then, select Start on Boot. If it is already Not Start On Boot, leave it. 7. Shut down your phone and then restart it. 8. Open MagicKey again and navigate to the KeyMap List tab. 9. Click on Default KeyMap. 10. Select Click to Add Key Pair. 11. In the Original key field, type 192 and then in Maps to, type 6. 12. Select OK. 13. Select Click to Add Key Pair again. 14. In the Original key field, type 193 this time. Then in Maps to, again, type 6. 15. Select OK. 16. Exit MagicKey and restart your phone. That should do the trick. If you use Garmin Mobile XT, you may also want to create a specific keymap for it because in Garmin, the camera key also somehow registers keystrokes caused by the zoom bar. I do not know why but if you have that problem, do the following too:

I've been using the fone for about 8 months now. Initially everything went well which made me think I made a good choice after the N73 (I don't wanna say more!!). But then it started. Fully charged battery, goes into power saving mode... GPS will not connect on a strong signal... Loss of signal for no apparent reason.. Going into internet browser, don't want to disconnect, have to switch off and on again sometimes... Going into messaging, screen freezes... I really hope I'm not the only one with these problems. This phone is going to have a date with a hammer real soon if it goes on like this!!!

The phone (6710 Navigator) is excellent in many respects, really nifty to use and very small for all its capability and a great price/features package to compare with anything in the market! But it has apparently with many individual phones the same two problems: 1. excessice zooming 2. sometimes the buttons need harder push to work. For the first problem I heard from a Finnish forum that the blame would be the plastic (original) screen cover that came with the package. The service cure reportedly is that they install a metal sheet underneath the screen (not a hom made remedy I might add!). I was wondering is simply the removal of that film will help???? Has anyone tried? Please let us know! The second (push harder) button problem is maybe a feature rather than a fault as such. Many of the phone models (Nokia, Siemens, Ericsson, etc.) have similar problems even on early moodels.. it depends a bit about persons fingers and what is considered hard push and what is not. But I admit it irks when suddenly you need to press harder when your prevous application was a lighter push.... go figure.... it maybe also crap underneath the keypad and million other things...:-(

I bought my 6710 last year in October and cannot recognize the problems mentioned. Never had zooming problems. It is fast phone, with a fine display very suited for outdoor use. I in fact also like the design of the phone. AlsoI have a lot of applications installed, and never has breakdown, or slow typing. The signal sensivity (wlan & phone) is very good, much better than the HTC Diamond2 I had. The web-browser is is also far better than the one on the HTC Diamond2.

Agree with all the negative feedback on this phone. Shocking design by Nokia. Auto-zoom on photos faulty, text messaging buttons stick and delay, viewing photos takes time....endless faults. So glad I have found this website. I sent the phone back 5 times, and finally Optus replaced with a new model. Now trying the E71. Been with Optus and Nokia for over 15 years now, so hope this one works!!

This is the worst phone I have ever got. Faulty out of the box. WLAN would not stop scanning and flatened battery in only a few hours. Replaced within a few days, and replacment is faulty also. Will switch off, freeze and reboot without warning and not consistant. Was sent away 2 times to optus for repairs. Still not fixed. Sending back to nokia this time. Phone should be recalled, some people up to replacement 8 in 6 months. Great phone when it works (and mine now is completely dead).

I got this fone as i was a huge fan of the old 6110 and it turned out it was the best fone ever! Only problem is it doesnt work! Zoom problem makes the fone unusable. Went through 3 OBF and same thing so emailed Vodacom informing them of the problem. Got E72 instead. Amazing fone and great for anyone sick of their Navigator's issues.

Got dis phone from Vodacom South Africa in December. Had zooming problems and freezing keys from day 1 but tawt it was just me being clumsy. Sent it in twice and it got replaced with refurbished handsets from Nokia on both occasions. I'm using d 3rd handset now since mid April. Vodacom sed dat Nokia replaced d main board on dis unit. Everything seems 2 be working now altho activating d accelerometer sensors really confuses d phone and slows it down. Also, i've still never found d Flashlite 3 application dis phone is supposed 2 come with. I kno its quite easy 2 find on d E-series phones, u just hold down d space key. I had the zoom problem here myself, just cleaned the zoom bar and it stopped. I live in Brazil and it's pretty hot here. This is not a hardware problem, but a peopleware problem. How about you clean better your belongings?

To all of you having the zooming probem, fix it yourself, they cant fix it! This will void warranty but im sure you dont care any more.Its easy im a farmer and I did it. Open it up, under the navigator sign there is a yellow strip,cut it out and throw it away problem solved!

I love this phone, very classy and slightly well-built. I only encountered the automatic zooming and unresponsive keypad once when I accidentally put my phone beside a package of hot food. I think heat is the main cause of the problem, I haven't encountered the same problem ever since. my gosh what a marvel 2 days with this phone and i loved it already, with the 5mp camera that works pretty well for a phone thats not multimedia fcused. i love the fact that it has a life time navigation since i travell alot. the phone speaker could have been louder but ot does come with a 4gig memory card(depends on region).

I had the 6710 for 3 months now! I had the same problem with the sticky keys and random auto feature with the camera and GPS! Other than those two problems, it is a great phone. I upgraded with the latest firmware and OVI maps software and it solved all the problems. I now have a great phone with no problems. It is a pity that Nokia released this phone with all these problems before selling it to the public.

Bought a 6710 in January 2010. I travelled, and while I was in Turkey, Thailand and Hungary, the Nokia dealers wouldn't fix it under warranty because it's a Ukrainian warranty. Get real - is Nokia not an international company? I have the same problem as many others - zooming in and out on photos or GPS. GPS was virtually useless because one minute I'd be looking at a street that fills my screen, and the next I see an image of the whole planet. Keys freeze, and bluetooth drops out regularly. The first three Authorized Nokia Repair Centers in Ukraine said I had to pay for repairs - rip off merchants! Yet Nokia continue to promote and distribute this faulty device!! In English, the word for that is fraud.

I have had 3 phones in 2 weeks from MTN SP. 2 black and one titanium. The first one, a black one had a faulty LCD so OBF. Next one was a titanium with zoom Issue OBF. I was told the black ones have better software so i thought i would give it a go. My new black 6710 lasted 1 day. STAY AWAY FROM THIS HANDSET!! I am really disappointed in Nokia!!

Fed up with my Nokia 6710 Navigator. It's been in for repairs on several occassions, yet STILL having the same problems of zooming in and out, keys freezing / not working etc. Each time I get told the problem has been fixed, yet after a few weeks, it's back to the same old problems. When is Nokia going to wake up and realise there are problems with this phone and recall them. Oh and the best is, MTN won't exchange it for another phone - they'll just keep sending it in for repairs!!!!

my 6710 works perfectly now. i got frustrated with technitions that dont know what they are doing and decided to do it my self. i CAREFULLY removed the screen and remove the copper plate "sensor" clip it with small nailclipper right where it came out of the phone. clean the screen and got some adhesive tape wich has no chemicals that can destroy the phone and put the screen cover back on. since then i can use the zoom manualy on the side button and it works great. besides the zoom this is the best phone ive ever had from nokia

Got this in Nov 09 and am now onto my 5th one, as none have worked longer than 4wks. I just went to check my current one only to find it has now totally died. I also have had major issues with all of them turning themselves on/off, zooming pics in/out by itself, changing alarm times from am to pm by itself. It feels like it's possessed. Anyway it appears I now don't have a phone so DON'T GET ONE OF THESE, VERY VERY UNRELIABLE, and as I said, this is my 5th one!!! Also had this phone since Feb 2010 and doing the same thing. Zooming in and out by itself in camera mode, navigation, internet and picture viewing. The keypad is non responsive at times, but works fine in MXIT, which means its not hardware, but a software problem. Was in for repairs twice, but always comes back with same thing, even after handset was replaced. Don't buy this phone. You will regret it.

Today I got rid of my Nokia 6710 and traded it for a wonderful 2nd hand Nokia N82. The seller told me the Nokia 6710 was such a big flop because many people avoided buying this model. Despite the disappointing experience, I will still buy a Nokia. But I will only buy a 2nd hand Nokia or wait 6 months - 1 year if I want to purchase a new model. The seller gave me some tips when buying handphones & the rules apply in my country Malaysia. 1. LG & Samsung handphones hold the worst resale value. Reasons - difficult to find spare parts & expensive to repair. 2. HTC, Blackberry & Apple iPhone are very expensive to repair. Better resale value because quite popular with the businessmen. 3. Nokia & Sony Ericsson retain the highest trade-in value. Reason - very easy to find spare parts and cheap to repair. 4. Nokia N series have higher resale value than E series. 5. Sony Ericsson Cybershot series have higher resale value than Walkman series. It is clear that a strong cameraphone from either Nokia or Sony Ericsson is a good bet. So while waiting for Nokia N8 to appear, I'll use my N82 for the time being.

Amazing, I have been in contact with both companies where I got my phone from and sadly they are not willing to take blame knowing the problem of the phone and they still sell it to market out there. My phone has gone in for the 3rd time. Does not matter how many times I tell them it cannot be fixed as per this website. I will take both companies to Argus Action if they do not come up with a plan as this is absolutely disgusting. Never mind the service you get from this well known companies. I think it is time we stand up and expose this issue

Hi I am sitting in the same boat, my phone is in for the second time and has been at nokia for a month and half. They seem to be sending it in all the time even when I told them to go onto this website where it states the phone cannot be fixed. What was the end result of yours?

I managed to fix the zoom issue! its zoom is the only fault with this handset, the cpu beats most hands down, the memory lets it down a bit though. my zoom issue has been ongoing, following several handset replacements, and several occasions without the phone for weeks at a time, i found that the handset is reacting to heat, when its warm the zoom is uncontrollable, (warm == about body temp) any movement near the screen (ie whilst typing sms, etc) would result in zooming in and out randomly, i tried hoovering the handset to clean it, blowing it to clean it, cooling using hairdryer, all to no success... so... I took DRASTIC action, and YES, THIS WILL VOID WARRANTY! but im at the stage where i no longer care, i just want a functioning usefull phone! so out comes the tool kit (yes i am an electronics bench engineer, no im not nokia trained, but i can surface work on pcb's so i felt this was not a major task) do not try this at home! step one, remove the two screws on the rear of the slide and carefully unclip the front ­ step two, remove the slide sensor from the front panel and break the flex lead step three, carefully trim the flex lead so it doesnt short on the chassis step four, replace the keypad step five, replace the front panel from the bottom and clip up the sides and screw in the two screws enjoy the 6710 as it was designed to be used... no more zooming in and out uncontrollably (you've all had it happen!) no more predictive text issues (choices no longer get picked at random when scrolling through word selections using the '*' key during message creation) no more none responsive keys whilst texting, dialing numbers, emails, web addresses, postcodes or addresses in maps, etc (caused by the buffer filling up with zoom commands) the ONLY downside is you cant zoom in and out using the zoom bar! :-P I am now happy with my 6710! well, except i bought it in october 09 and bought it due to the lifetime licence to maps, for nokia to then give away the licence for free to everyone weeks later!.... that gutted me! if you dont want to resolve to such drastic action yourselves, you can only wait until nokia adds an option to the firmware that disables the zoom bar!

I tried magickeys and the problem is that it makes the keyboard non responsive. Try typing fast, then the keys only respond every 3rd of 4th push. NOKIA, please fix this problem

I am from South Africa, and got my 6710 Navigator on a MTN contract in October last year. It had the zooming problems from the start, and keys not responding. Since then, my phone was given to Nokia TWICE for getting it fixed, but after the 2nd time, its as bad as ever. Ive got the very latest SW update on my phone. What is NOKIA in South Africa doing abt this very very annoying problem. I sometime feel like throwing this phone against the wall!!!!!!!!

In regards to sticking keys during SMS writing, I found this was only occurring when the messages were being stored on the SD card, rather than on the phone itself.

Camera on this phone is horrible. My n73 camera is way better. The zoom is annoying but i found a way to stop dat. But other than that its still a Gud phone.

I bought the phone Nov '09. Just recently some of the buttons went faulty. So I got those repaired under warranty. But then it came back with the Zoom function problem being way too sensitive. Sent it back the second time but still had the same problem. They said it was fixed but it wasn't. Zoom was fine before they fixed it the first time. Got other brand of phone now.

This phone is a wolf in sheeps clothing... excellent phone EXCEPT that ive been thru 5 of these phones and all have the zooming probem and keypad problem. this zooming affects your viewing of photos , taking Of photos and working on your GPS. you cannot even stop the zoom ,has a mind of its own, flipin malfunctions! it takes anywhere betwen 5 to 8 times of pushing a button for it to type. i did my research and came to this site before buying it and didnt think the zoom problem would affect me and...WELL it did!! dont be fooled this phone will waste your money and your time. sadly no other phone that my newtork offers me has the standard of this phone... save your time and money and take my advice, stay away... Dont buy this phone (Nokia 6710 Navigator) it has problems with zooming and keys not responding. I�m having endless problems and its costing me allot. Took it to a nokia repair centre in witbank and a store in pta 3 times, still not fixed!! The phone I got on my mtn contract crashed and was beyond repair, i got a factory swop out and it has all the problems mentioned above.

Apparently there is this bad batch with zooming problems and sticky buttons. Sent mine in, service very good,unlike the phone. The phone serves the purpose, once fixed it is a very nice phone.

I've had problems with its keypad. For some reason the keys tend to stick after a while. Texting is a nightmare on it. Also, hooking up to a WiFi hotspot or using the WLAN is not user-friendly and once online, it's not a walk in the park to navigate webpages.

My zooming problems appeared max 5 times in 5 months(Titanium version). Might help if you disable sensors, but even with that enabled I got no problems since 2 months. GarminXT sometimes freezes and I guess is somehow related to zooming. My only concern is that I have only 30-40 MB free RAM when I read somewhere that I should have 70 MB free from 128. I'm happy with my 6710.

I have a Nokia 6710 and the key pad is stuck (takes forever to respond when you press the keys), keeps zooming in on the camera functionality and maps without me even touching it - is this common? Does anyone know if MTN will exchange this for another handset? Was this a 'bad batch' from Nokia?

Keep zooming in and out when trying to take a picture without touching any keys. Sending messages of even trying to answer the phone is taking forever. Keys doesn't work. I am not impressed.

All new nokia 6710 nav has the zooming problem.Don`t take it ! I think the E 52 is the best nav phone at the moment. nav 6110 is also good but you can`t have it anymore.

I have had one of these for 8 months and it has kept dropping out mid sentence and eventually not turned on again at all. Optus replaced it with a new one, but the same thing happened within 2 weeks of receiving it. My husband has one the same and has the same problems. I would not have one of these phones again.

Hi hariharan, yes, I have exactly the same problem. Whether it is the GPS maps or trying to view a photo, it keeps zooming by itself. Sometimes in GPS I'm trying to see where I am, and it just keeps zooming in to maximum resolution, then without touching anything, it zooms out so far I see the whole world. It's just as bad in the photos. Keys also stop working. Sending an SMS takes ages, because when the keys stop working, I have to close the phone, and open it again. I have to do this every five or so letters. The shop where I bought it told me to update the software and all the problems would go away. I have the latest software, but replaced it - no difference. I'm most unimpressed. If Nokia won't replace this phone, it's the last Nokia I'll ever buy.

I formatted my memory card and transferred the file one at a time and it worked. I managed to transfer 2 videos only though. The third one became corrupted. -_-" thanks anyway.

hi everyone i made a minor error , it doesn't use the cortex , it uses the ArmMP 11 cpu which clocks at 600mhz which is the same speed as the cortex used by the n900, i also did some more research on the web and the 6710 does support a 32gb memory card

hi soulsearch, i have good news and bad news. The good news is it is not your phone, the 6710 in theory can handle a 32gb memory card, it has more than enough ram and it uses the fastest processor currently used by nokia , the Arm cortex A8 600 mhz cpu also used by the amazing nokia n900. The bad news is the videos may be corrupted , it may be your computer so i suggest you format your memory card and resend it to your phone, also try playing the videos on the pc first but they probably became corrupted when you sent all the files, it can happen if you send many files at one time.

Hi. I've been using 6710 navigator for almost 5 months. And it works perfectly for me. Until recently. I just bought a 16gb micro sd card so that I can store more files. And so I did. But I can't seem to view the videos I uploaded. Even when the video format is mp4. The only reason I can think of is because my new memory card doesn't have the necessary file needed to view the video. Any ideas/solutions, anyone?

and another thing people , don't listen to people saying how long you must charge your phone , read your manual as different region have different power outlets for charging and if you can't find the length of your first charge in your manual then charge it for 5 hours , i did it and it takes only 45 minutes to charge after its first charge

hi hariharan don't be disheartened, i understand many of you are having zoom problems and keys not working , since i phased my review with you all I am still not experiencing any problems at all . They keys and zoom works fine . I do believe a new batch of navigators are released according to networks here in south africa , so i assume mine is one of them so speak to your local network and have faith , nokia is rectifying the situation. I've used alot of different phones , not only nokias and i must say the 67 navigators are the closest to the perfect phone i've ever come across so if you have problems ask for it to be replaced with another 6710 , trust me once you have one that works fine you will love it to bits , everyone who sees me with it loves the phone .

you can turn the voice guidance off but there is no short key for it but don't be lazy , you have volume keys

Thanks, I agree with you 100%. Great phone. Do you know how to mute the voice guidance ? On my 6110, you press the '9' key to mute/unmute. Does not work on the 6710. Maybe some other key press ? Nothing in the manual about this.

hi everyone im here with my mini review. I've had the phone almost a week now. First off the contents inside are very lovely you can read gsm's review to see whats inside. I have the titanium model. The design and look of this phone is excellent. It feels great in the hand and the arch is a lovely step forward in terms of ergonomics. The gps is fantastic and doesn't take long to connect at all just a few seconds depending on where you are. There is life time drive and pedestrian navigation with voice guidance. You may need to download maps for other regions if you travel but thats for free . Very fast and good looking interface. Great web browser and the zoom bar works well on the web , in the gallery and on your maps. So far my zoom bar has not given me trouble at all. If yours is giving you hassle there is a software update over the air, just go to your software updater. The 5mp camera is fantastic. Charging the phone is also very quick, for me around 45 minutes and the phone lets me know its charged, if you miss the alert just look at the light at the top of the screen and if its off then its fully charged. This phone really improves over the 6210 in every area from navigation to camera to hardware performance and even ngage gaming. Overall it may be hard to believe but a phone that ticks almost every box deserves a 10 out of 10. I highly recommend the nokia 6710

i just got the 6710 its the brown one. it definitely has serious zooming problems. and sometimes the keys didnt work which is a problem but not as bad as the zooming problem. nokia should stop selling this phone until they are sure they have fixed all the problems. the zooming problem is unbelievable it stuffs up your web browsing, the gps, and the gallery views, and possibly also the camera. it is a serious problem and i would not recommend this phone to anyone. i am about to start trying to fix my phone.

Does anyone know how to mute the turn-by-turn sound during navigation? On my 6110 Nav, you press 9 to mute/unmute. Nothing in the manual, apart from using the volume button on the side, which is not very convenient.

I have posted on several sites now that IT CAN BE FIXED. They have to replace the Main Flex Assembly 7610N and the Slide Assembly. It will then fix all the zooming and key response problems. Mine is still perfect after 4 weeks now, and so is another one I heard about. Same story.

Hi Guys I thought i will share this info with you. I am a very strong supporter of Nokia phones and epically the navigator series. I have the 6110Nav and I love him the only problem is in South Africa we pay about R150.00 for 250mb data bundle while u can buy 5gigs of adsl data for R150.00 so for me any phone I get from now on must have WIFI hence the reason to change my cell. I really really like the specs of the 6710nav but i noticed it has a lot of hardware issues. So called Nokia repair centre and asked them about it. Off course they replied saying they are not a liberty to disclose this information. So i told the guy "look buddy i really like this phone and if i get it and there are some major issues with it i am personally going to make your life a living hell...so i am going to ask you a few questions and just answer yes or no" Q1: "Does this phone have a high failure rate straight out of the box?" A1:"Yes" Q2:"Can most issues be fixed by a software upgrade?" A2:"Yes" Q3:"Can all issues be fixed by a software upgrade?" A3:"No" Q4:"So there are major hardware issues?" A4:"Yes" Q5:"Do you recommend i get this phone?" A5:"No...not now all major hardware issues are being addressed in the new batch and should be on the South African market by June" I did the similar thing to Vodacare and they also don't recommend i get the phone. I am really disappointed I am not sure if i can wait till June if not i am going to get a Tom Tom and the N86 (which is on limited stock because its discontinued.)

hi people & fellow 67' owners.. I currently have my 67' for a few months. Now at first g too was left angry when the phone zoomed by itself.. But let me say.. I might have found the cause of this problem.. Dust! Have you noticed the large gaps left on the sides of the slide when the phone is open? Give a hard blow into the gaps on either side straight into the gap (no spit).. May need to be repeated a few times before problem subsides..

Hi I am from South Africa and I currently have the 6110Nav (brilliant phone except for the battery) I am looking to get the 6710Nav to replace it. From your opinions I see only see 2 types of people, those that love it and those that hate it. On paper the specifications look great for the price but if its going to annoy me then its not worth it. Could any South Africans give me their opinion on this phone? I have also heard the models released this year are all fixed up is that true? How can i confirm the manufacturing date of my phone? Zooming CAN BE FIXED The Main flex assembly - 6710N and the Slide Assembly - 6710N have to be replaced. Mine has been perfect ever since, and I know of at lease one more here (In South Africa) also fixed. Mine was done by Vodacare in Capetown at Canal Walk. Good luck

amazingly the auto zoom in out is not a software problem.. it's hardware problem nd that's is why nokia is not getting in to help as its gonna cost it alot. the problem is that the upper portion has become touch sensitive. the acceot key , hang up key,the two selection keys and the navigation keys are made touch sensitive "delibrately" or intensionly.

I have read through some of this reviews and all i can do it agree. I am glad that some people phones are working fine, but the rest of us is facing extreme frustration. No only the zooming issue or the loud speaker that sucks but my issue is with the modem. its very random, downloading emails have never suck this much. It also prefers EDGE over 3G, where my previous LG was constant 3G and stable. I hate to say it but this phone is design to test human nature.

You can update software go to settings then SW Update. There was 3 updates and after them there is no problem with zoom at all, averything run smooth...so far.

I got this phone on a contract, let me tell you i've never had any problems with any of my other nokia phones. The 6710 Navigator is a @&¤ nightmare. I returned my 1st one with zooming problems and the keypad freezed. I got the second one, the phoned freezed and switched off by itself. I got the 3rd phone, it freezed and didnt want to switch off. I demande a different phone on the same contract. I got the E71 and it's a dream phone. I have the E75 and the E71 is even better. I will stick to the E series. Nokia wont admit it, but the 6710 Navigator really give problems. There might be 1 or 2 phones that is working properly, but really... And if you have to update the software before the phone is working fine then its not the best phone x

This is best phone ever, after soft update there is no zoom problem at all, everything work perfect. Opera run flawlessly, few software installed work perfect just garmin gps keep freezing, hope after new version it will be fixed. Very happy with phone. Nokia well done.

I have one, its the best phone ive ever owned, no problems at all.... Just downloaded the world maps provided by nokia its free and i am very happy with it.... Battery is excellent, i use bluetooth handfree ear piece and still the battery doesnt gets low.

Even pulled out the battery and put it back on again. hi all. to show the compass if you updated the maps. just click on number 5 and it will appear :) ofcourse u then have to calibrate it by shaking the phone or swinging it as if u r writing number 8 with it

Hey I got my 6710 since dec 2009 and had nothing but problems with it. When on the web or in my photo gallery, it zooms in and out doing it's own thing. When typing a text message it frozes, you still type but nothing happens. Been to a nokia tech and got the latest software update but still the problem persist. And the best is that the service provider was sooo quick and efficient to upgrade and now I get nowhere with anyone. This sucks!

Thanks jc, the accelerometer is now working fine. I am shocked and saddened that so many people are facing major issues with this phone, especially, when working well, this phone is a real pleasure to own. I suspect that the defective phones were made by a fly -by-night company which the main manufacturing company in China must have sub-contracted to on the cheap. The following method is a suggestion that might. 1) Are all the defective phones the titanium ones ? If so request for a different color phone. If not go to #2) 2) Download new maps from Ovi, and upgrade the firmware to the latest available. Still not working ? Go to # 3. 3)Borrow a branded micro SD card and try the phone with this. Still not working ? Go to # 4. 4)Go to the store where you bought the phone and try a 6710 Navigator which is not tied up to a carrier. If this works fine, you can buy the phone outright - but there is always the $$$ to consider. If you cannot afford to buy it outright, then go for another contract with a phone from SE, LG or Samsung !!

I have had major problems with zooming and keys locking up. After setting the sensor switch to on as you suggested all the problems disappeared. Thanks for the great tip. (When using the screen zooming method be sure to be very gentle ... move your finger only millimeters at a time.

Had the phone now for two months. No zooming issues with GPS, but bad shielding from signal when making phone calls makes it more or less unusable.Just got it back from Nokia SA and the problem persists. I have that same experience with my 6710 Navigator. It's done nothing but wonders to me. I even reckon that it's better than the e71. I could never ask for a more perfect phone to carry with me. I even have the same thoughts as you thinking that it has no accelerometer--well we're wrong. On my third day of testing and just checking out the phone I saw the setting that activates the ACCELEROMETER. Just go like this: SETTINGS > General > Sensor settings > ON! Voila! Accelerometer activated! And I would like to tell you that YES :) The CAMERA on this phone is SUPERB. Already using it for more than 2 months now. I have the Chestnut Brown one. Pity to those who have the Titanium one.

hey i bought a 6710 had the zoom in and out problem the texting problem not pushing half the buttons pushed, had it replaced 3 times with the first 1 receiving a software update and eventually got a refund after a long argument with the store manager as the was no store policy to be seen and he was denying refund or exchange with store credit, and this was all in 7 days, dont shop at tele-choice as u will have a tough time getting a refund

I've got this phone for two days now, and I've pushed it hard through its paces. It stood all the punishment I delivered and came out smelling like a rose ! The salesman from where I bought it told me that if something went wrong with the phone within 30 days of purchase, it will be replaced with a new unit - so that gives me plenty of time to further test it. So far no crashes or any other glitches. I got the black phone. The salesman did tell me though, that several customers who took the Titanium color phone returned it with some complaints. I'll have to wait and see if mine starts to act up. The user guide that came with the phone omitted several features. A full user manual can be obtained from the net. The compass is used in conjunction with the maps. If you jiggle the phone ( as shown in the manual ), while in the map mode, a green ring should appear round the compass - this shows that the compass is active. If there is a white or yellow ring round the compass, keep jiggling it till a green ring appears. The music player delivers very good sound, and the FM stations are crystal clear. I heard that the camera is superb, but I am yet to test it. The presence of a dictionary, office applications and the Adobe reader are really nice touches. I write a lot, and all these applications come in very handy. The only gripe I have so far is that it does not seem to have an accelerometer. Maybe there is; I have to go through the manual and re-check. The 3.5mm socket for the headphones is very welcome. Now I can use my good quality headphones to listen to music from the 6710. So far, I'm very pleased with this phone. I don't know what the days ahead will bring. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it will continue to perform as it has done. I have no need for an iPhone with its thousands of applications. The Nokia 6710 Navigator is my cup of tea !

I bought this phone Jan2010 and experienced no problems until 3 weeks later when the phone amazing turned itself off. I went back to the dealer who took the battery out and popped it back in and it worked!! Sadly this has only lasted two weeks as in the middle of texting it just froze and then switch itself off and now the blasted thing wont turn on at all!! I had the 6710 for five days and it had 6 problems like the continuous zooming, freezing, "hum", etc. I was issued with a new one but that one also "hummed" and was returned within a day. Shame on Nokia for irritating the public with such products.

I have just got one - 7 February 2010, so the phone is still available from Vodacom. However, it has the zoom problem. They told me the cable that connects the sliding motherboard to the main motherboard needs to be replaced. I will check thst out.

I Sooo wish i had read these posts before going through what you all have. my first instantly had the zooming and lazy key problems. Replaced within 7 days, the second one seemed perfect until i made a call on 2g(gsm) loud buzzing and crackling heard on other end regardless of strong signal. second DOA. now awaiting my 3rd 6710. after a long wait, my service providor has informed me that there HAS been a recall. what does this mean though? out of stock is now displayed on their website. (no mention of update or replacment.) for me a featureless budget phone on the same plan is all im offered. What phone for the same price has lifetime free navigation?

I have taken my phone back twice, picking it up for the second time tomorrow. Hopefully Nokia has replaced it for a new 6710. The problems that i have with it include zooming in/out erratically, unresponsive keypad especially noticeable when typing an sms. Other problems include 3g signal not strong (when compared to my loan 6220 that i am using now) and the 3g signal drops back to 2g then doesn't automatically return to 3g immediately unless i manually set it to 3g. So far i am very unsatisfied with this phone. I will continue to hound Nokia until they give me a phone that works!

I went back with my 6710 on Friday. I guess they got fed-up with me; they gave me a Nokia E52 instead of just another buggy 6710. E52 is GREAT! GPS works even better, no zoom, just a plain and simple awesome phone. Two thumbs up to Vodacom's assistance!

I'm from South Africa. Got my first 6710 last week Friday. Started zooming on Saturday. Took it back Sunday, got a new one when I got in the car zooming. Went back.. they said I should 'test' it for 2 days. :O Went back Monday, they took it to the back, came back say they master reset it. While I'm sitting in the shop it starts zooming again. Again they say go play and test for 2 days. I returned yesterday. Gave me a third new one. Still zooming!! Going back tomorrow or Friday. Will exchange till I get a phone that works.

I too have had two 6710's in two weeks. Both have failed. The second one had the zoom problem, whereby it would start zooming in and out on it's own. Nokia deny that there is a problem with these phones :-( I get a replacement tomorrow again.....thinking of going for the E52 instead. Not happy with Nokia. BTW Route 66 navigation on my current Nokia 6110 (excellent phone)is FAR superior to Ovi 3.3.

This phone was my first and last Nokia ever! I started to have problems with it after about two weeks. GPS lock takes forever or it simply just doesn't lock. Sometimes Nokia maps crash and the cheap plastic started to come off at the back of the phone after about three weeks (the part that makes contact with the car mount). I'm very disappointed with this phone and will not get another Nokia ever again. If this is the kind of products that Nokia has to offer, I�m not interested!

I had this phone for a month now, never had problem using it, I upgraded the firmware after I bought it to 022.013 and also format the phone memory card and install a new set of update maps. Browsing if great, WIFI signal is strong better than my mini notebook. Camera is good even at night.

Got the phone on a $49/24mth plan 2 days into contract phone freezes up removing/replacing battery fixed problem, 10 days later phone automatically shut down wouldnt power up, been in for repair for 4 weeks now Provider has sent me replacement 6710 first day first go on facebook and ebay zooming problems back to repairer next day so now two 6710 phones at repairer with no fix date given, what next, This is the worst phone i have ever had in the last 15years totally unrelliable, I have a friend whom repairs nokias for one of the big providers and he tells me they are having a glut of them at the moment, If nokia had any decency they would do a recall on them.NOT HAPPY if you have one that is faulty notify your provider straight away and also your TelecommunicationIndustry Ombudsman (TIO)to log a job with them it puts a lot more pressure on the provider than one little voice.

Zooming problem is intermittent. Installed opera and no key lockout issues but zoom bar isnt supported either. If my fingers get anywhere near the touch bar when its having a tantrum it goes nuts (which is most of the time). I do not see as many problems when in the photo gallery or gps, but as best as i can tell the key lockup issues are from the touchbar going loopy. Figure it must fill the keypad buffer and not let anything else send commands to the OS. I would be more when happy for Nokia to update the firmware to disable the touch bar. Other than the zooming i think this phone is pretty good and does all i want it to (i updated from a 6110 NAV). A guy i spoke to at the local optus shop told me not to bother sending it in yet for a fix because from his experience it will either come back with the same fault or if they replace it the new one will do the same thing. Starting to think the Motorolla on offer may have been the lesser of 2 evils.

Woah. I guess I'm just the luckiest person to own this phone. 100% works for me. No zooming problem. Perfrect GPS. (locks signal very quickly) No hangs. (with so much apps I've installed) Very fast internet. (no random zooming problem also) Very fast phone overall. For me, its better than the E71.

Had one for a day. The zoom function behaved like it was demon possesed. Then the sales assistant at Autopage tries to tell me the handset is perfect. When the display is zooming in and out while he is watching. If the replacement is the same Autopage can shove the phone and my upgrade will be a samsung or anything other than a Nokia.

I first got this phone when it first came out through Optus. I bought the handset outright which cost me $579.00 I have had nothing but problems with this phone. I kept taking back the phone to Optus and now im on my 5th handset. It freezes all the time whether your looking through photos and even on a call. The only way to fix this problem is by taking out the battery and powering it uo again. Also the zoom on the phone goes crazy when your using the internet. I dont recommend this phone to anyone. I have used Nokia phones for years now but this model is really testing my patience.

If you don't know what you're talking about, shut up. There is a zoom problem with the phone. The zoom bar sometimes causes zooming (and keystrokes in applications like Garmin) even you're NOT touching the phone. You're lucky it hasn't happened to your phone yet. I hope it does.

After a few weeks, my opinion is milder now. I've found and installed Nokia Sportstracker. It has a very fast gps-fix in a few seconds. That helps Ovi-maps to make a faster fix. For the problem with the gallerie-zooming I've installed de Nokia beta-program PhotoBrowser. Give it time for the first run to index your photo's, pictures and other graphics. It's great. A bit like the Iphone. At last the zooming within the internetbrowser: I've installed Opera-mini. No zooms at all. You can tune it with your own taste. No Nokia-links to pay-sites anymore. A good (better) browser for normal use. But the integration of streaming video is not very good on the 6710. If you want to view, use the old browser with the Realplayer. Any other tips?

okay.. Yesterday i read quite a few of your opinions & saw how many of you were complaining "my phone zoom's in & out uncontrollably.. Boo hoo.." okay.. The phone doesn't do that.. If you took note then you'd notice that the phone has two sensors on the face itself.. (See the magnifying glasses on the celophane cover?) yes.. Touch sensor.. Zoom map.. Touch other side of screen.. Reverse action.. The phone is also equipped with a motion sensor.. As for freezing.. Many things can cause this.. Not charging properly.. Not booting the phone & memory card properly.. Etc..

I am in South Africa and bought this phone from a Voda Shop on Wednesday! (16/12/2009) I was pretty impressed to start with, but then the phone started randomly zooming in and out in e.g. the gallery or browsing the web. I've found several other similar complaints since then. e.g. and Maybe that's why Vodacom supposedly discontinued the phone. I'll have to go and fight with them tomorrow.

You'll have to download: 1) Garmin mobile xt; 2) Keygen, for Garmin; 3) Your map(region) 1. Download and install Garmin Mobile XT. 2. Extract the archive to your storage card. 3. Insert your storage card into your phone, then install the application inside the garmin folder. 4. Launch GMobileXT, got to Settings -> About. 5. Make note of your "Card ID"(IMEI: press *#06#) 6. Launch the keygen, and type in your "Card ID" into the "Unit ID" field. 7. Hit Generate button to generate device unlock key. 8. Copy (CTRL+C) your generated device unlock key to the clipboard. 9. Now open the Notepad and paste (CTRL+V) the key and save the file as SW.UNL 10. Launch the keygen again and enter your 10# GPS Unit ID (or GMXR Card ID). 11. Select Map product and hit the , enter the corresponding MapID and hit OK. *search your mapid for your Region for Routable map v5.17 12. Hit Generate button to generate map unlock key. 13. Just a warning about update 022.013, while it brings a lot of improvements, generally faster UI response, the browser is quicker, and I might be imagining it, but the picture quality with the camera has improved (this is the most impressive improvement if it's true), it messes with Ovi Maps. The program crashes if you try to access Tools-Settings-Navigation. This is all over the Nokia Discussions forum and so far the only fix is to do a hard reset and then reinstall Ovi Maps using Maps Updater. Frankly I think it's to much, Nokia must fix this, I have too many programs that I've installed and it took time to find all of them. I must though that GPS lock is markedly quicker, I now get signal inside my office building in Johannesburg CBD in less 30 seconds, where before I had to wait till I was outside. Outdoors it's almost instantaneous. Pity about the bug introduced into the maps app.

I've had this phone for 17 days now. All I can say is this is the best phone I've ever had. Very fast. Good camera. Fast internet. Very good GPS device. I've installed other gps apps(such as Garmin) works perfectly fine. But sometimes still need a sort of "kick-start" from A-GPS(damn!). I like the design very much and I especially love the zoom bar, 3.5mm AV jack, and the the very lovely usb/micro sd cover!! Very very good phone. Only con is the battery back up--could have been better.

@Warmonger, it's like that across all the networks, I'm on MTN and it came with lifetime licence. @gelfling, that's just a link to the facebook mobile website. I'm hoping the e71/72 client makes it to other S60 3rd devices. @Rob_Netherlands, sorry to hear that. The really must have been something up with your unit from the start. My phone is actually quicker since I installed the update. I had no problems beforehand barring a little issue with predictive text in the browser and that's also fix. The zoom bar is less sensitive, the camera is faster, and the browser renders sites a little quicker over the same connection, I don't know why but GPS lock has also improved a bit for me. And to put things into perspective, I have 27 apps installed over above the 65 that came with the phone (I deleted a couple though like the silly youtube and facebook 'apps')

Hi all, There is a minor firmware update for this phone. While I have personally had a problem apparently it sorts the zooming in/out issue out, as well as updating Maps, Real Player, Browser, Search, Ovi Contacts and Office(i already have v6 anyway, but if you have v5, it's an update v5). The file is about 6mb or so. Either go to SW Update in the menu or key *#0000# at standby screen, then options, check for updates. Current software version is 021.013. This will update to 022.013.

to Rob: just got back my mobile from nokia care in kuwait & i was suffering from the same problems you had with this mobile..my responses to your comments is: all you have mentiones about this mobile is correct..many owners complained with same problems..at first i asked nokia care about this & weather if its a manufactural defects or not? ..they said its a SW issues but i doubt it & i insisted to examine it by a technician..handled my mobile last thuresday ..got it today>>& they swapped it with a new one!! now my feedback>>all problems has been resolved after 6 hours of continuous using..except for gps locking without a-gps..its hard to find a signal without assisted gps & thats due to the buildin gps receiver(poor)..what i concluded from all of this that many faulty board comes out with this mobile as nokia is releasing a thousands of mobile everyday..its quantity over quality..so check your mobile ..take it to nokia care & post your feedback again..good luck

Same here ... I've learnt to just be patient and wait for the signal. And it also loses signal often while in transit. And then my menu freezes and I have to force a shutdown and start-up.

Was having the slow finding of satellites. I seem to have resolved this. Current positioning settings are. Assisted GPS enabled, Integrated GPS enabled, Network based enabled, Positioning server is set to "Always ask" if I change this to automatic it seems to take forever to find satellites. Hope this helps some of you with your problems.

List of complaints - GPS (without AGPS or network) is very slow or not working. That is bad for a navigator. I had a N82 that was much better. - Zoom function in Gallerie lives its own life. Even 'not touching' is enough to zoom a picture - sometimes the picture does not focus. Looks like blowing up the thumb, rather then opening the picture. Closing and reopening the Gallerie does the job. Or resetting the Navigator - Zoom function in Camera makes it sometimes impossible tot manage the settings (i.e. scwitching Flashlight off). It takes minutes to make a picture. And: the camera is slow. - Zoomfunction in webbrowser makes browsing a difficult task, sometime impossible - scrolling in the list of bookmarks is sometimes had te do because everytime the window "go to http.." opens, which has to be cancelled to scroll further. And that problem repeats and repeats. - cannot download another language for speech (gives a malfunction) - sometimes the system freezes and has to be reset - in some windows the cursor is hardly (or not) vissible But there is a lot on this phone that I love. So I beg Nokia to come with the upgrade. Pleazzzz!

After owning the 6710 Navigator for more than a month I can safely say it is the most unfriendly phone I have ever owned. The manual is totally useless. I can not even take a picture (with or without the manual). It refers to a "capture" button, but none of the buttons activates the camera. The GPS I have also not been able to figure out. This is not a phone for the general market. I wlould love to get rid of it.

I'm a little confused why would you want to use the smart dialer while you are recieving a call? The GPS without AGPS is only that slow if you are in the city, in an enclosed area, or if you are trying to get signal while you are moving. In open areas where you are stationary (and not in the city), I've gotten locks in about 30 seconds without AGPS.

Used the trial and found it more friendly than SkyeQuikey and it's cheaper, about half the price. Don't know of any free smart dialling apps. Sadly a lot of phones don't have Smart Dialling not even the iPhone

I just bought my 6710 Navigator last evening and my impression was that this phone is very solid. Nice specs especially the speed. Only problem I have experienced so far is that it restarted once I zoomed in a photo using the zoom bar while listening to music. Maybe I just zoomed it too fast(more than 100% zoomed already in 3sec). I'd tried it again, this time I waited for it to pan before zooming another 30% or so. Restarting did not happen anymore. It's a really good handset, nice cam performance though not the best, good audio quality. Another thing that bothers me is that I don't feel the presence of the accelerometer of this device; it does not change portrait to landscape when tilted. Can anyone advice me of some useful applications to install on this phone? Especially to activate the accelerometer.. Thanks in advance. jc

Nokia 6710 NOT RELIABLE. I had the phone for 10 days and it blacked out. Sent it to the NOKIA Agents and got it back 18 work days later only to hear that they've updated the software. Three days later it's blacked out again. Cannot switch on at all. I've sent it in for repairs again. Now I'll probably wait another month.....

Go to Settings-General-Personalisation-Standby Mode-Standby Theme. By default it is set to Horizontal Icon Bar, change this to Vertical Icon bar. When you return to standby mode, there will be four icons on the left side of the screen: Shortcuts, Calender, Music Player and Personalisation. Just use your D-pad to highlight calender and all your calender items will be displayed. As long you don't selct another item on your home screen, the calender will remain your main view even if you use other apps etc. Hope that helps

Can someone help me? I have just upgraded to the 6710 Nav from an E65. On the main screen (standby) i use to be able to turn everything off and see all my calendar items for the day. Now i can't with the 6710 Nav, and the search and WLAN can't be removed? Is there a way? If not, why does Nokia have to change the options/setting you can have between models?????????

Had mine for a week now and had no probs at all. the gps works fine with ovi maps and also Sygic 7 which i have installed, the new wifi & email interface is a dream to use & the camera works very well. I repair mobiles for a living & find this handset to be a credit to Nokia. Regards Phil

I had my 6710 nav for 2 days cannot pick up 3G.I have a 3G sim card in my Phone.When I switch the phone on, then it takes long to boot up.It boots up with no signal.My GPS on the phone not always available.Sent it back to the store(7 days exchange policy). Got a new phone and exactly the same. I've tried the GPS with other two phones(6710 nav) at the same time and tried to switch on the GPS function. I am still waiting for the connection. My last post got cut in half. For my GPS settings, I used to have it as default, now I have A-GPS, Network based and Bluetooth GPS off, with only Integrated GPS ticked, under the settings for Positioning Methods.

I think some of you guys need to get your devices checked. The GPS either works or it doesn't. If it picks up signal in your home country there is no logical reason why it will not pick up satellites anywhere else. If it doesn't then that probably means the signal were you are is poor. This things works beautifully, with A-GPS, without A-GPS and without sim card inserted, at least for me. @Justin Simmons - The search method can get quite tedious.

yeaah, i think ppl shd try to use it overseas but in the same region of free navi license provided by nokia... i tried before but fail.. it needs 3G to operate or to get signal coverage from satellite, unlike garmin which u can use without sim card inside the phone.. My friend using garmin at the same time outside the country, he get the signal, but my 6710 Navi shows no signal at all.. What a waste...

The GPS is terrible. I cannot find any streets when searching by "city name". It only works with the postal code or suburb name. What on earth do you do when you dont have a postal code or suburb name??? I can see the street on the map, then i do a search for the same street with the exact city name and it cant find it...

iBaL, I tried what you asked, my first lock in was this morning at home and I work 48 KM from where I live (as the crow flies) so even though I know my way home, I left only Integrated GPS selected for positioning methods, and it took 4 minutes (give or take a few seconds either way) to get signal, and I was in Johannesburg CBD. At home I restarted the device, then tried again with only Integrated GPS and it took just under a minute. It normally takes 15-20 seconds with A-GPS. Can I ask how long it normally takes (with A-GPS), maybe you are giving up to soon? From my little test it's 4 times slower without A-GPS so maybe you must just be a bit more patient.

here, i explain to you my situation... Ok, i'm from Malaysia using my M'sia simcard which have 3g... So far in Malaysia i dont have any problem using GPS because my sim provider support the 3G, and for the first time, i have to use A-GPS to lock in my position using 3G.. After the first lock in, in 30 km radius area, it automatically detect the satellite and no need fer me to use A-GPS, but, but if i'm outside the 30km radius area from my first lock in, i have to activate my A-GPS again to lock in my position.. Ok, in my case, in Malaysia, i dont have to worry about A-GPS bcoz my sim provider support the 3G, and yesterday i go to Bangkok, Thailand, i cant lock in my position without A-GPS, bcoz my sim provider doesnt provide me the 3G services outside Malaysia, it does provide with me the 3G but with high cost... and i dont use it and i felt i have wasted my money to buy this phone to travel oversea.. Any my last question is, how can u use the GPS without A-GPS?????? and pls try not to use it within 30km or more radius area from your last lock in position, and try it without A-GPS...

It really comes into it's own when using Ovi Maps. I drive a loud car, and even with music on, I can hear phone calls, messages and of course the GPS voice @Kak�, Brazil 6710 has 120 MB RAM (according to LCG X-plore and Handy Taskman) @slacam You can get it from here To all the people asking, GPS doesn't need internet, the GPS function is sim-free.

so far so good apart from the fact that the web browser is much slower than my old n95 and that pictures do not open automatically after downloading. In the manual there is apparently a setting for this but the phone does not give nd this option. This is frustrating-frustrating.

Hi, I have a major problem with my Nokia 6710. I'll use the phone and it will stall and restart. Or during the course of the day look at my phone and it will be off. After couple of days, It will not start up at all(Charge the battery to full). I can't check software version, as I can't get it back on. Any advice? As it just came back from repairs, have it for 5 weeks (2 weeks in repair).

Sent in for repair on Tues, got back the phone on Fri, Sat chatted for a while on it, it blanked out, managed to power it on, works well until Monday morning, power off by itself again, still can power on, so I guess just have to live with it... few hours later, auto powered off again, and this time, cannot power on anymore... luckily I brought my warranty card along, this would be the 4th time I sent it in for repair.. still have 2 days to go before I officially own the phone for 1 mth...

The random zooming problem some users are having may be a setting in the phone. Go to Maps, Options, Tools, Settings, Navigation, Automatic Zoom, and change this to off. I have had the 6710 for a week now. I'm generally happy with it, but I've had some problems with the GPS (which is why I bought it). Sometimes the GPS works and finds a position, but sometimes it just says "no gps signal", despite being in a place where I've had gps signal before, or in an open area with clear skies. Anyone else having these problems?

personally i think this phoone rocks it has everything anyone could ever want in a phone i think that people will only complain about somethin if they are not educated enough to use the phone and that is a fact.nokia would never introduce something if they have not tested it themselves there would be no sense in that so big ups to the most user friendly phones internationally

I don't think dropping any phone is a good idea! If the phone crashes it's probably a RAM thing. I have 12 additional apps installed over and above what came with the phone (Opera Mini 5, Ovi Store Client, Gmail, Sports Tracker, N-Gage, Mobbler, Div-X Player, World Mate, T9 Nav, Handy Taskman, Handy Clock and Handy Converter) and it's okay. Taskman lets you know how much RAM you have. With all of that when I turn the phone on I have 45MB free RAM, but with a lot of apps open it drops quickly and below 20MB I've had one freeze and two re starts. So it's a case of being wise with how you use the device. It's speedy and generally won;t freeze unless you overload it with open apps. Just for comparison the N97 (the flagship) boots with 40MB free RAM even before the user installs 3rd party apps so the 6710 is not too bad. Like I said before, the zoom bar is just really responsive and it will take some getting used to, but now I can't imagine not having it. I'm happy with my device, I generally abuse mobile phones with customization and so far I am after nearly a month with this one.

When I first bought the Nokia 6710 I installed many third party softwares causing the phone to slowdown and eventually crash. I then uninstalled some softwares leaving only the Opera Mini, Bolt browser, CorePlayer, F-secure antivirus and OfficeSuite onboard. The phone is now back to normal and speedy. I did not experience any problem with the zoom bar but my gps is currently down. The phone has dropped once and could not get gps signal and this drives me nuts. I'm gonna send the phone for a check and repair soon. Either the dropping incident or some 3rd party softwares has caused the gps to malfunction. I advise you to test the gps before buying this phone and download softwares only from Ovi Store. And don't drop this device!

Having all the features that I desired, but it failed me terribly in the following: 12 days after my purchase, it just dies off, literally dies off, blank screen all the way, unable to charge... Sent to Nokia care centre for repair, they replaced the flex assembly and upgraded the firmware, collected back on the same day. When I reached home, blank screen again, went back to Nokia care centre the next day, they did something to it and collected on the spot after 15mins. They mentioned adjusting the contacts on the battery (loose contacts). Subsequently, it blanks out as and when it likes (even with full batt), luckily I can still power it up.. Today (21 days after I bought the phone), it hanged, can power up, but stuck at nokia screen, whatever I do, it just can't get past the 'nokia screen of death'.. Have to send back to nokia care centre again.........

I have been using the Nokia 6710 Navigator for over a month now. Given below are my pros and cons of this gps phone. PROS 1. Fantastic sunlight legibility (GSMArena is correct about this). I can read the dislay even under the strongest sunlight 2. Free lifetime license for voice guided turn by turn navigation (yay!) 3. No lag & quite stable (unlike some Nokia smartphones)thanks to 600Mhz Cortex CPU and 128 MB RAM 4. Can use gps navigation and wifi without the simcard 5. Suprisingly good battery life (2 days with heavy use) 6. Can charge the phone via USB port 7. Fantastic build quality like the E and N series 8. Suprisingly accurate Ovi map (better than my Garmin Nuvi) CONS 1. Camera has no image stabilizer causing blury pictures (no thanks to shaky hands) 2. Camera/video light is inadequate (only 1.5m as compared to 3.5m of N86) 4. Cannot switch off camera sound when snapping pictures 5. Camera has no face,smile or blink detection 6. The phone can become slow and may crash if you install too many softwares I have installed Opera Mini,Bolt browser,CorePlayer,F-Secure antivirus and OfficeSuite but did not experience any slowdown. In conclusion, I think the Nokia 6710 is well worth the money and is highly recommended

I've never had a problem with the zoom bar. I like it. It takes some getting used to because it is very sensitive but after about two days I was comfortable with it, especially in the gallery. The Nokia browser is superb, it's not Safari (which I'm not a fan of anyway), but it is very user friendly. And the maps/nav application is sim free.

I think you can use 1 and 4 keys or * & # to zoom in and out. If you use those and dont use zoom bar does it help? Also does your phone ever restart by itself or anything funny?

@Mary - Frankly the N79 design and keyboard does not appeal to me at all. Yes its available officially but its an old model. Also it has i think 2.4in screen n 369mhz processor, 6710 beats it on both fronts. The 6710 grey market price is approx same as official N79, might as well take my chances with the 6710!

I am using it for two months. It didnt show any problem. Great camera, navigation, radio, battery power and function etc. Somtimes I pressed the star button for GPS unintentionaly when slideing the phone, maybe would be better to place it somwhere else. Other than that great phone and much more.

Thank god the 6710 doesn't die atleast, though I thought I read 1-2 users complaining about that on the other board. But doesn't seem as widespread as the E52 atleast, or is it bcoz there are not enough 6710 users yet? The zoom bar could be a software problem, but as far as I see it, it's a problem one can live with. I too am not keen on the 5800, but the thing is it is officially available and supported by Nokia Care. If I go for a grey market 6710, I am not sure of support and spares if it develops a problem. BTW one grey market source is quoting about Rs.15,000 (approx USD 320) but has still not confirmed when it will be available. So biding my time and keeping my fingers crossed :)

@ Jai Great I have access to the user opinions again, the whole yesterday it was dead... ?! I read through the German forum just before: - No user has written about death of 6710 (that happened only to E52 like you said before). - Nearly all users mentioned the zoom bar which develops sometimes its own life and zoomes around... - 1 user (only 1, not more) wrote about the battery going down from 7 bars to none within a day. But perhaps he installed some programs which could have caused this. He will observe the issue and tell. If I were you, I wouldn�t take the 5800.... 6710 has much better features, except the touchscreen (I don�t like touchscreens anyway). Think a new FW will come out soon, and it should solve the issue with the lively zoom bar, and also with the battery (if the battery is really an issue, as only 1 person has complained about till now). Will buy 6710. In Germany, the price is fallen under 300 Euros. I wait one or two more weeks. Perhaps we have then more user opinions to read....

Wats up with this website ..This forum was not accessible yesterday evening n whole of today morning.. @Mary - So the problems are pretty widespread huh..i have an option between this n the 5800 touch. The touch is a good phone but not without its share of problems about corrupt memory n in my view touch screens are delicate so long life is a ? So hav my eyes set on 6710 but it seems we hav not got enough user reports yet and there could be hidden problems. One thing.. on the german forum you mention are there reports of 6710s going dead? This is one problem which the E52 users are reporting en masse which has scared me off that model as well. sigh.. selecting a phone is so complex!

@ Jai Today I read in a large German forum about almost the same problems - zooming bar often zooms fast in & out without the phone�s owner doing s.th. About this issue I read at Nokia support discussions more times already. I think this problem is due to software... And the battery seems to cause problems - one person wrote about charging every evening. And in your link we could read about a faulty battery indicator like you have it at N86 (battery shows the wrong status). Hmmm, it seems there are some software problems nowadays... Think it�s better to wait with buying until new FW comes out and we can hear some voices in forums if these issues are cleared... The waiting has one advantage, too: in the meantime price will lower - that�s better for my purse... :)

Mary, the LEDs on the N79 are bigger. Did a test last night, using them as a 'torch' by turning them on as video light and the N79s are also brighter (I'm guessing the N85s would be as well) though not by much. The thing is though, for whatever reason, the 6710 just seems to process images better than the N79. They seem to have different sensors, optics or maybe the image processing software? I don't know but even with the advantage of the slightly brighter LEDs the 6710s low light performance is more than a match for the N79, and if you take a photo of someone close to you with the N79 the person is slightly overexposed which doesn't happen with the 6710.

I weighed up getting either the N85 or the N79 for the "N-series" multimedia pedigree, but when you pitted against the 6710, they were either too expensive (N85) or nowhere near as good (both N85 and N79), and certainly the imaging prowess the 6710 is head and shoulders above those two N-series devices. I can live without an FM transmitter, the dual slider form or VGA recording at 30fps. Other factors, the audio quality is great (used a common set of Logitech earphones with my iPod and the 6710 and I was impressed). The screen is legible in direct sunlight (same can't be said for the N79), the speaker might not be stereo but it's reasonably loud and crisp.

@ Jai Forgot something, on the various Nokia sites in Europe the black one isn�t listed, there are only pictures of the titanium and sometimes of the brown one. But you can go to amazon.de, they have the black one already available.

AS long as it's not locked it should work. The licence covers SA, Namibia, Botswana, Swaziland, Lesotho and Nigeria. We don't get it in black, just the same light brown as in the gsmarena review

Our license here is Southern Africa and Nigeria, so it's for South Africa, Lesotho, Swaziland, Namibia, Botswana an Nigeria. I'm sure as long as it's not newtwork locked it will be fine. My handset is the same colour as on the 360 degree view in the gsmarena review (the light brown). As far as I know that's the only colour available here.

You will be able to view the maps and search for addresses etc but if you want to use turn-by-turn voice guided navigation you will have to purchase a license for India @ �39,99 for a year. I got the phone in South Africa (Cape Town) on a 24 month contract so not sure what the cash value is. I've had it for about 2 weeks and firmware seems very mature, very stable, no random freezes or crashes. The processor is quick and I've run camera, maps, music player, native browser, opera mini and nokia messaging at the same time and no issues whatsoever. There is one issue I musn't forget, predictive text sometimes loses the plot in the native broswer but only with facebook and myspace.

Thx for clearing several points. About the maps, I am in India where 6710 is not officially launched. If I get a grey market piece, I don't know if I will be able to download and use India maps or not. Can you help? Where are you located and how much did you buy your phone for? -Camera is great, there are better 5mpx once out there (N82 for one)but it produces nice crisp images and dual LEDs are okay. -I've been using Nokia Maps offline and it's fine -You can download maps for any country you want but the lifetime license only applies for the region you bought it in. -Battery is disappointing. I'm a heavy user (internet, music player, GPS and camera have had a lot of use) and the battery hasn't lasted more than 24 hours. Basically have to put it on the charger every night This is the only bad thing about this phone -I like the keypad, very responsive, in fact the phone in general is well built. If you big hands it might be a problem though And this phone does charge via USB.

Mary, 6710 Navigator has a far better camera than the N79 (I know someone who has it and I own the 6710). Even uploaded to facebook or flickr 6710's images look nicer. Better colour reproduction, more detail, less noise. The 6710's dual LEDs also perform better than the N79s.

I played with 4 dummy models in an Optus World store. Out of the 4, 3 had wobbly sliders so you could feel the top half press down when the slide was open. I'll stick with my N86 thanks.

Poor camera: I disagree (incredibly better picture quality, compared to my old Nokia 6110; considering the phone price, it's the best bang for your bucks) Poor video recording: I agree (I suppose it was either done to keep cost down, or not to cannibalize other Nokia phones sales) Slow gps: I agree to a certain extent (my 6110 was somehow more responsive and accurate, but I really like Maps 3.0 and the way you can create trips and landmarks on the web and then sync them to the phone) Cheap design: not the worst I've ever seen, but this is not a fashion phone or a flagship one (and price-wise I really appreciate it is this way).

Amazingly fast GPS lock-on, and very sensitive (even indoors it sometimes catches on with the satellite) I have owned 6110 Navi, N78, Eten Glooifish M700, Blackberry Curve 8700 and I can say that this phone beats all those by a mile. Excellent construction and feel, very nice screen, good battery, life-time navigation license - this is a no-brainer for everyone using navi on a daily basis.

all nokia symbian smartphones share its internal memory for everything, gallery files, contacts and calendar entries. in other words yes, phonebook is almost unlimited. ask your local nokia dealer

The cold start GPS lock time of my 6710 has got much better since when I've disabled the A-GPS option and the Network option (i.e. "onboard GPS" is the only option active).

Is a very good phone. Very loud sound, music player sound excelent, but with a good headset. The in box headset is a crap... The acelerometer is excelent, very fast. The gps is excelent. Ovi maps 3.0 awesome. Wi-fi is very good with the zoom touch and fast. The cpu 600 mhz is fantastic. very fast.

Differences: n85 has OLED screen, FM transmitter, lens cover, 8gb card (vs 4). n85 charges through USB. 6710 has a zoom key (and comes with a car holder), and a lifetime Ovi Map driving directions - but minus all the above. Now, can I have a car holder for n85?

just bought the 6710 Nav. in competition with the old E66 and the samsung innov8. very satisfied with price, size, functionality, camera quality. few minor first-impression cons: Backcover is Cheap-chinese-crap-plastic; probably wont take long before you can buy a metal-replacement cover. Auto-rotation is useless if you (like me) is left-handed. (only rotate CC) More optional shot-cuts on the navigation wheel like the SE would be preferable.

Just got this cool phone for few days (after using N73 for 3 years). Great phone. Fast. Good Navi. Good battery life. Great zooming. Feel very good about the phone and also about myself after playing with it.. Navi is more 'want' and 'need' factor, and once you have this NAVI feature, it makes your time less boring and more exploring.. If I could ask for more, I would ask for lens cover, lighter weight, and free leather case. With these 3, this 6310 will deserve 10/10.. Overall, I give 9.5/10. Thanks NOKIA

What kind of review is this wherein they have not mentioned the lock period for a device whose highlight is gps navigation. Gsmarena is escaping its duty by saying that gps is fairly sensitive. What do u mean by fairly sensitive? Give us the figures for lock time with cold start and compare it with other devices so that we know excactly how sensitive it is. Also mention the chipset nokia is using in this set for gps wil ya

I bought the 6710 a couple of weeks ago (upgraded my 6110) and I am quite satisfied with it. Compared to the 6110, it takes a little bit longer to get satellite signal when cold booted (A-GPS disabled), but that might be an early firmware issue. The advertised Podcast application is not provided and support for it in OVI Contacts and OVI store is not yet implemented. An excellent phone anyway. Anyone willing to discuss about it can join me on gdgt.com.

You can switch from a 5800 to a 6710 if you really care about navigation: the 6710 includes lifetime license for walk and drive navigation, and its digital compass is an appreciated aid when used in walk mode (the map is orientated in realtime when you move the phone).

Because people like me would buy it in a instant, because most people need this when they travel and those months i mentioned is when everyone travels. A very small screen which is not much use in a car unless you have a navigator, Nearly went off the road three times today. A PDA size screen is much more use also due to much higher resolution and brightness. No means of planning rout on PC and exporting to Cell that I know off. Can anyone help??.

I think the navigator series is good, or even fantastic, however right now i am considering buying one but they all have something missing, 6710 doesn't have accelerometer , fm transmiter or navi wheel, 6210 doesn't have wifi and only has 64mb of ram and red colour is hard to find, 6110's screen is the smallest , no accelerometer ..etc, im looking to buy a nice allrounded phone that must include gps, 2.4 inch screen or larger, fm transmiter, accelerometer, wifi and good camera with auto focus and flash, megapixel doesn't matter to me.. Please help me out people, thanks a bunch

This is are real upgrade navigator. The 6210 navigator is failed to upgrade cause just only 64mb ram and suck battery. Navigator is need minimum 128mb ram than u can enjoy to use it.
