Nice phone.... Very light, slim and vast. In terms or processing... Runs on symbian OS s60... with a reliable 600mHZ processor, 482 ram. Nd 60mb internal storage... Very nice phone - though morally out of date what with Symbian S60 being way too old thing to do with today :) Still, I have one in quite good conditions still (bought it back in 2010 - and started using several days ago again as I've managed to very awkwardly drop my HTC Desire V) Going back to Symbian after Android is not a pleasurable experience - still, before I find the time to repair HTC, this phone has definite advantages, as follows: 1. It is even slimmer than HTC Desire V (not a bulky phone to begin with), but also it is narrower, and much more comfortable to the hand for actual phone calls. And it's very elegant 2. Its battery is long-lived - I've charged it last morning, it's almost full charged still - if I remember correctly, on moderate use it could last more than 3 days without any charge 3. If I manage to locate original earphones, I remember the quality of music was quite good (if you are a last.fm user, there is a mobbler application to scroble along too) 4. Mobile internet is very good. Admittedly, its own browser eats up to much traffic, but for it supports facebook app, also, you can always opt for Opera Mini (If I compare my traffic with this phone and what I spent on mobile internet with android - well, it's 10% of the android (automated function of shutting down the connection when not used also helped there) - but of course quality of browsing is much worse than with android All in all, back in 2009 it was a great phone, and, being elegant as it is, I won't feel ashamed walking about with it still - but of course it's an interim option :) Still lucky I kept it when I moved to android - serves a back up phone now

Guys, both E52 and E55 have major problems, old news. It turns off and never turns on, it vibrates with no sound because the CPU chip gets hot overtime, the lead BGA solder loses contact and it's over. Reheat, Reball or trash.

I have a E55. Unfortunately, the unit seems dead on arrival. The phone will not power on (only vibrates briefly but don't see any lights/screens whatsoever). I cannot get a charge-indicator either, even though I've attempted to charge it both via computer and plug. Has anyone else had this problem? Anyone have any ideas for a solution besides returning it?

For me is the best phone I ever had. Sure it can be faster, with better sound and more memory but having an HD2, an E72 and a E7 I always go back to the E55. May be the the size, the outstanding battery life or maybe because can do everything in a much smaller package during a lot more time. The market goes in a completly diferent direction but thankgod I have a spare second unit.

these phones are very limited to apps, for facebook you use the mobile browser but if you want to chat in facebook theres an app that can do that plus more. These phone are made for efficiency and won't let you down in terms of quality and durability.

I am using both e52 & e55. Double thumbs up to both the phones for its awesome performance & battery backup. Two bugs i noticed - 1) 'Pause' the music -- After outgoing/incoming call the "Paused" music will starts to "Play" automatically - irksome 2) If you Type Messages while the mobile is searching network during lost network connection, the message typing terribly slows down (like hangings) & recovers. Anyway its an Excellent Phone.

10nk God i've found someone who also h8 the QWERTY keyboard both full n half our phone manufactures have adopted for most of their high end phones. For Pete's sake, this is not a desktop/laptop keyboard that have much room and considerable space for typing that makes using it comfortable. My thumb can cover upto tri buttons/keys even in the most spaceous Qwerty smartphone RIM, Nokia, Windows, Apple, Htc, Motorola, Samsung, Sony Ericsson and the rests have yet released.

To answer your questions about the half qwerty keyboard... In all honesty, it takes a couple of days to get use to, if you've been using mobiles with the usual keyboard layout. With the nokia e55's half qwerty, you actually type much faster because there are only two letters per button and also with dedicated buttons for 'Enter,' 'fullstop,' etc. I really like how large the buttons are, considering it is qwerty.

I have recently shifted from Nokia E63 to E55, there is a huge difference in processing speed of the two cell phones where E55 is dominant. Typing however on a qwerty keypad is faster than a half qwerty in the begining, but the E55 also has a keypad tutorial feature in it which helps you adjust yourself to half qwerty. I would sugest you buy E55 instead of E71 because of its attractive design and faster processing

this is a nice phone, not very expensive for someone who is after features... Great for communication, with the 8 hour battery life, half qwerty keyboard is actually better than the full qwerty like the one found on the e71. It's size/weight is very good. N-gage gaming is awesome, though the keypad wasn't designed for games... I recommend it.

Im from australia and have used many and come across many many mobiles. The nokia e55 is hands down, the BEST phone i have ever used and has restored my faith in nokia. A powerful little phone for music, internet, taking photos and messaging. I was surprised how light and thin the phone was. Overall, the nokia e55 has pretty much everything you will ever need in a phone, whether it be for business or entertainment.

It has not yet been launched in India. I enquired about it with many Priority dealers. Initially they told E55 won't be launched in India and now, offlate, they are telling that E55 is expected in India in 2-3 months time [they were not sure about that, even]. I can't wait that long. I was actually planning to buy E52 here or probably get an E55 from UK/Aus.

This phone is a breeze....sheer bliss. Works wonderfully with NimBuzz if you have a Skype account. Find a WiFi spot and talk on Skype thru NimBuzz. It has countless bells & whistles as you go along using it. I recommend it if you are constantly on the go, tight on pocket space(very slim and compact) and impatient with always recharging(very long battery life).... otherwise relax on your couch with a Iphone.

Bert I was mistaken...it does beep every 15 sec I just didn't listen long enough to notice. I tried starting the recorder first and then making a call but it shut the recorder off when I tried to do this. I guess if you want covert call recording a paid app is still the only option.

I just tried recording a call with the built in recorder and yes it did work. Obviously my side of the conversation was louder but I heard the other person on the recording fine. It also doesn't beep like some of the call recording apps do. Good idea Bert as I was going to buy an app for this and now I don't have to!

This phone is a mess. It is the most expensive phone i ever bought, and will stay that way. The back plate is just so thin it bends in your hands. I forgot it in the trunk, during a mildly hot day, and it kept saying "Phone startup failed, please contact retailer". The battery life is good, altough i was expecting more. Wireless on youtube really drains it. Normally, about 5-10 minutes a day talking and about 30 minutes playing on it, i have electricity for 10 days. On wireless it decreases significantly. Today i dropped it of the table, on the plastic floor, and it died on me. Hatefull phone, i hope Nokia will repair it for me.

i bought this phone on e bay india. some comments. the keypad - it does require some getting used to (abt 1 week id say) and (obviously) it is not like a full qwerty. but the t9 is quite precise. the battery life is fantastic. the videos are replayed well. the headphones are so-so but they do not have muti size ear cups. so, the ear plugs tend to fall off and thats really irritating. the phone does lag/hang once in a while. it is FULLY loaded and totally feature rich. the speaker phone shure could have been better and louder.

Cannot fault this handset in terms of performance but the camera is crap (Nokia should have made it 5m pixel autofocus) and the battery cover has a habit of coming away in your hand after a while (so I have it in a silicone case all the time now) :(

(and still using.)The fact that this is the tinnest smartphone in the world also makes a difference. the nokia E72 is kind of a blackberry imitaion, and not a very good one at that the buttons are to closley cramed and uncoftrable to type long messeges on and for some reason the screen only uses 70% of the space available yes the E72 has a 5 megapixel camera but a very poor lens the nokia E55 is the best smartphone to get i deeply recomend it NEJ I COMAND YOU TO GET!!!!!!!!!!

Man, you should connect your phone to the computer and do a full software update to the latest version. That will fix your problem. I did it with mine and now it is working smoooothly ! The phone is good, no complains. Internal memory is quite low, but otherwise I am happy with it. Good relation price/quality.

OK, I have been using this phone for around a month now. The design of the phone is very good, looks very stylish and professional. Better than E52 I think. E52 has the best conventional keyboard compared to any other normal phone, but E55 does quite well with a half-qwerty. I got used to it quickly, and I would not go back to ordinary any more. Using latest firmware, haven't had many freezing problems (apart from the occasional), or poor talk quality issues. No camera faults. Camera is good for quick snaps, it is enhanced focus not autofocus remember, so it's not much worse but at least pictures are taken instantly as you press button. If you need excellent quality then NO PHONE will do this, get a digital camera. This is for casual quick-snaps here and there. Not bad I would say. Flash is there. For music, the phone is very good. The loudspeaker is clear and good quality, apart from the very top volume setting where distortion can be a bit felt. But through headphones there are no problems. The phone has a dedicated sound chipset used typically in XpressMusic models, so quality is good. You can also have album art. Professional listeners may not be happy with a click that sometimes can be heard when choosing another song while something is already playing. I have tested the GPS and FREE navigation that comes with it, and they work superb. Road guidance is very good, and if you are outside, finding a GPS signal is not tough. Battery life is excellent, and WiFi works well. Going on the internet is easily possible, but it will not be as easy to surf as on the iPhone or HTC. A couple of particularly useful things on the phone are that the centre D-pad flashes if you have an unread text or a missed call, so you don't need checking. Also the alarm can be snoozed by turning the phone upside down, and incoming calls muted too. What I like about this phone is that because it's a smartphone, you can do several things at once, such as have music playing in the background while browsing the internet, or browsing the internet while in a call with a headset, many things really... My only complaint about the phone has been the build quality of the casing. Materials are high quality, and look good. But the way it has been put together, no. I am sending mine off to Nokia because I have developed a squeak on the silver frame around the phone. Also some of the buttons on the edge are wobbly. Some people will put up with this, but I do not like squeaks and moving parts in my phone. So, if you have any questions ask. But otherwise it is a great phone, and I am confident that it is the most functional non-touch screen candybar phone available today. And that's why I bought it. It's a classic design phone for professionals, which will be hard to beat. New touch screens come out every month, and will be beaten whatever you buy. But to beat something like this, you will need quite a bit of time. Nobody packs in so much function in such a thin phone, that is also not wide. So I say it's an excellent handset, if you're looking for simple, classic yet functional design. Just hope your one is not a one off of poorly built ones. I've had no software problems on it, and the firmware is stable. The closest phone that comes to this is the E52 and the Nokia 6700. But Nokia 6700 is not a smartphone, so it will lack some features such as Wi-fi, music quality, and some more. But it has a better camera.

the phones connectivity is quite nice. you wont regret buying the phone, but you should consider the limits of Symbian Operating System. overall the phone is a fantastic gadget for those who want great battery life and also good connectivity. i should say again that the phone is amazingly nice to handle and the battery life is superbe.

Hi All, I recently bought Nokia E55 (Black) in India. The phone has not been officially launched and I have bought it from grey market. After using for a couple of weeks I can see the following Pros and Cons: Pros: 1. Extremely light weight and sleek phone 2. Black colour looks elegant 3. Decent battery life 4. Email connectivity is good 5. Supports high capacity memory cards without slowing down. I am using 8GB 6. Camera quality decent (could have been better) Cons: There are no business stopping cons but yet they can be really nagging 1. Keyboard is a bit irritating. It�s been 2 weeks and I am not yet used to it. Previously I was using Sony Ericsson P1i which was a half QWERTY and was very comfortable. 2. Speaker sounds are pretty bad. Ringtones and voices sound blurred 3. Many software/games do not support the keyboard 4. Browser issues with opening certain pages. Worst is the new Opera Mini is also behaving weird offlate Will keep you posted with more experiences.

Of course it can open attachments. It can open Microsoft Office attachments, PDF, etc. It is a business phone, so it can do all of that. When you synchronise email, it only downloads plain text. If you want to view it in html or download an attachment, it connects again...

I recently bought a Nokia E55, and noticed something peculiar about it. In most pictures on the internet, the light sensor is located near the front camera. In very rare photos, such as those featured in GSMarena, the light sensor is on the left side of the phone. Mine is on the left side, and I checked it is E55-1. Perhaps E55-2 is the one with light sensor and front camera together. Can anyone confirm? Also another difference I found between E55 and E52 is that the latter has a much softer D-pad. On my E55-1, the D-pad is stiff and needs a "clicking" press. Can anybody comment on that, with their experiences?

Hi, can those of you who have physically seen/touched the phone answer which colour is the best, white or black. Judging by the pictures, white looks shiny and attractive, but is this true in real life? Would the keys and back get yellowish even if looked after well? Yeah it can open an attachment over browser if the attachment is HTML. But it could have difficulty handling some text attachments from time to time. So that you 'll need to choose Reply to see the contents of some mail with text attachments.. You'll do this if the contents of the mail never appears. It can open Microsoft 2003/1007 documents and PDF documents locally when sent as an attachment.

i heard that E55's have problems with the processor. I own E55 since 2009 and i only have that problem during calls, when the other person hears me like i was talking on speaker, or with phone far away from mouth. A friend's E55 just crashed. Whenever he wants to power the phone, the phone vibrates like it should, but the display remains off. I'm ńot sure if he broke it or something, it's just what he told me, and showed me the phone. Also, he told me that this thing about E55 processor crashes, is a very known thing with these E55-1 RM-482. Any thoughts?

A perfect cell with different keypad, being Finnish it is flaw less, but lacks sound and cam standards. Only the ram and cam be upgraded. Hell of differance to E52.

The Answer Is "yes", it does support Arabic (I See It In The Phone Language Selection Menu), I Don't Deal With Changing Phone Firmwares, I Got The Phone Already With The Hebrew Firmware Inside, But I Must say, it's not perfectly Completed, I Mean, There Are Few More Menues That Showing In English. Try To Visit A Cellular Phone Store In Your Place Maybe They Could Help.

E55 is n black with 2mb card and keyboard with two letters than three. Rest same as E52 color steel where buttons are not read clearly. Color combo better. screen and cam quality under average. The price difference 50$ is basic for these diff. extra light weight is minus point it falls off your hands easily.

nokia was and will always be good phone brand,how ever nokia e55 may reduce your loyalty coz of the following unusual features the above series. absolutely no inbuilt memory. poor picture quality. invisibility of bluetooth. poor inscription of words as compared to other series eg nokia 5000. complicated and not userfriendly. poor sound quality frigility is very high . battery life spun after charging is very limited.

I recently had a e55 replaced due to the old one freezing on a regular basis. In the end it completely died and would not turn on. The replacement has been better and I have recently updated the software. No problems in the last week (use to happen daily) so just hope it stays this way. Was rather annoying when it use to restart and freeze during a conversation!!

The only way to get it back is taking out the battery. Also the bluetooth range is poor. Yahoo mail not working as it should, is not synchronizing after setup. The display is not so scratch resistant as I expected. The good thing is that it charges battery on usb when connected. Speed is increased so Symbian is running fine in all applications. No camera autofocus so pics are taken very fast. So beside the stereo bluetooth pairing issue I am happy with the E55, the keyboard is quite easy to use.

I Don't Know What You Mean By "TouchPad", But I Think It's Not, It's Regular Buttons, But I Think It's Very Close To Touch, Easy To Press On (Very Flat), And Large Enough (Not Like In The E71 That Are Very Small). nokia e52 and e55 microphone problem.. I think there is no mic problem.. The problem is antenna.. Because antenna at lower side of cellphone. When you hold them from bottom side antenna does'nt work properly. You can see it on screen. This is a nokia's design fault. When you make a call please take the phone from upper side. You can see the probem solved..

First I was dissapointed about the baterry cover on the base of the phone in the corner is higher than the body of the phone, the slick metal frame that is all around the phone on the bottom side if you gentle pull you will see the gap but all that is nothing compared too how the phone works the G accelerometer is responsable for massive delay's on the home screen and for the wake from the sleep mode, the non customizable and the choppye symbyan I think is thee worst think on this phone. Wi-fi is good baterry life is good too, the conversation is a litle bit noisi. All the good's for you. Adrian

my comment on Jul 3rd. I was replying someone whom get impatience then.. I know your feeling man.. but in my opinion, the stronger you can hold the better you get. I'm currently have k750i and N82.. desprately looking an upgrade.. got my eyes on N97, Omnia HD, E72.. but E55 is a league of it's own. no other phone comes as a substitute in term of specs and shape. It's so unique I guess there is also some marketing strategy by Nokia. This phone has 600MHZ and qwerty (half) and costs much cheaper than 434Mhz N97.. Isn't it reasonable for Nokia to postpone this phone because of that, and suspected hw or sw problems among other things? However.. thing goes by, and yesterday I have purchased HTC Hero. the days of waiting for E55 are over, unsuccesful with it, yet very happy with my new Hero!

Hi, I ordered E55 from Nokia shop Online and when I tried to start it, it said "Phone start-up failed. Please contact your retailer." So I called them and they said a replacement will take 14 days or more. Quite useless so I decided to get a refund and sent it back. Now I'm thinking about E75. The trouble is it can be the same problem.. will give it one more try and then I'm done with Nokia. Their Nokia Care is run by people who obviously don't understand phones so they didn't help me either.

Nokia forgot to build a little cutaway in the back to help you pull the battery out. Its tricky to get the battery out without using a safety pin or something. This is bad news as the casing might get damaged.

i had talk with nokia priorty, he told that in diwali there some 7 models,but this is not there - as there is some probs in the function of the phone, which the co. wants to fix it first then launch - so that is why there are postponing the launch - so avoid the chaos. the phone is available in greymarket but it will not be serviced by nokia guys - as he said.

The spec is not 100% the same as E52 (without dual-qwerty). The sizes and weights are different and the processor is a bit faster than E52. This handset also comes with more memory. Better deal than E52.

If they test it on a heavy texter, it will probably cut his/her speed after he/she gets used to the dual-qwerty keypad, but the keys are small. You can check out the E55 YouTube review by All About Symbian. They show a texter using it really fast.

if this review bothered to test out a lousy texter, why not also test it on a heavy texter. It'll probably mess up his speed badly. And before he can get upto your 15% improvement, he would've sold it for a different set. I myself have 2 cells, and it's going to be annoying if i have to readjust myself everytime i switch phone. Nokia had better have a long term plan for this half-qwerty keypad thing instead of it being soon-to-be-forgotten experiment.

I've had my e55 for a month now, and it has worked perfectly until now. I just switched it off and when I turned it back on, suddenly all the text on the phone (on the display / menu / sms, everywhere) was much bigger than it should be. E.g., stretches off the screen. This is with font size set to "small". Can anyone help? I tried restarting, updating, tried removing the battery for a while and then replacing it, tried charging it briefly etc. Nothing is sorting out :-(

For those who are wondering, the differences between these E52 and E55 are: *Keypad(E52 has a normal nuber keypad while the E5 has a half-qwerty keypad) *Camera(The review shows that the E55 has a SLIGHTLY better camera, but both are par or below par anyway) *Phone Colour(E55 has black) Thats all:):)

I have this phone. My first impression is very good. Most of the things that annoyed me in my previous phone E70 are now fixed. However I'm also experiencing hangs/restarts, and not only under heavy use. Sometimes it hangs during the initial setup - country, date, time etc. and even during conversations which renders it useless. Just returned it to the shop to fix it. I hate when i go and by a new phone and then I wait 1 month to fix it grrr. The metal age around the phone sometimes moves a bit and makes cracking noises. I hear it's a common problem with this phone so I wonder why it's not in the review?!

Have E55 for about a month now. Typing was easy to get used do, it's MUCH faster then the usual keypad like E52. I can actually chat with it.. Predictive text works great as well! Learns new words if missing. For numbers, just hold a key longer or switch with the arrow key to number mode. With heavy use it has freezed/restarted itself few times. But I see it as a general S60 software issue not model specific problem. The light under the menu button has two lighter spots, that could have been avoided. But the D-pad is again very nicely illuminated. Until now I'm very happy with the phone. BUT I would like to upgrade the silver plastic edge to a metal one!

That light below the menu key is a general issue. Even the pics they have here in GSM Arena have that. I've actually opened my E52's faceplate and have seen the problem. The keypad has no cover behind that part. It's a problem that shouldn't have been there. Kinda disappointed with the build quality. I thought the front frame was aluminum but it's plastic. But you're right, other than that, it's a great phone.

Thanks Ruan, Actually I have the E55 and it's true that there is some strong and ugly lights surrounding the keypad and also a strong light out of the menu button. I've send it back to Nokia, but I'm not sure if there are problems with my keyboard or it's a general building issue with this Model. Apart for that this Telephone is really great, excellent sip functions, great voice, music, audio, screen, camera is OK for me, really fast, thin, elegant, excellent battery, 3.5 stereo is great,etc hope they find a solution for the keyboard issue. Anybody has this mobile without the strong lighting issue?

Before you buy this or the E52, make sure to check if the backlighting on the keys is okay for you. Because the light bleeds from the sides of the keys, which makes it look a little cheap. I have the E52 by the way.

I just received my E55 in the mail from germany. Unfortunately, the unit seems dead on arrival. The phone will not power on (only vibrates briefly but don't see any lights/screens whatsoever). I cannot get a charge-indicator either, even though I've attempted to charge it both via computer and plug. Has anyone else had this problem? Anyone have any ideas for a solution besides returning it? I have tried looking up 'hard reset' inputs for the E55 (i.e. "Call Button" + " 3 " + " * "), but I still only get the short vibration. Anyone know if the hard reset key sequence is different on this device? I need help!

First of all I'm a Nokia man. I'm currently using the N97 and it's been great since the latest upgrade. But this E55 is something else... I got to choose a Nokia E-series phone in a mid-price range, so I thought I'd go with the new E55, since the E71 kicked sooo much a$$. And really, how different could this phone be aside from the qwerty versus qw-er-ty keyboard? During the 8-9 hours I actually had this phone, it crashed about 20 times. Every crash had to be solved with removing the battery, so it really crashed. Also some kind of System Error message appeared many times. My PC (Vista) didn't have a clue about the drivers or the phone. I plugged it in about 30-40 times and PC Suite did connect about 1-2 times - yay. The "half qwerty" was awful. Yes, I'm sure you'll get used to it in a week or so, but I didn't even wanna find out. I just wanted to get rid of this JUNK before I'd smash it on asphalt. So the next day I went back to the store and got myself an E63. Of course I would've gotten the E71 (again) if it would have been in the price range allowed by the company, but I think I made a good choice with the E63. But don't buy E55 until they release the next MAJOR firmware update. It's almost beyond usable! And this all is coming from a guy who's been using Nokia for the past 14 years.

I had purchased this Phone from Nokia Flagship Store in London. Phone was made in Finland. For few days phone was working fine, but it started to develop one problem. There were frequency like electrical vibrations on screen. Overall ohone is nice.

The only problem I have with the phone is that the case is so badly put together and it moves and squeaks every time I take it into my hands. I am disappointed with the materials nokia has used for this phone. The silver bit in front is plastic not metal as I was especting. The battery life is great though. Hi! Today I installed Garmin Mobile XT 5.00.50 on my E55.... It works.... BUT.... there is a very very bad problem.... It's imposible to zoom map with keys 1 and 3.... The combination "Func. key" + "number key" like in E71 doesn't work.... Also it is imposible to write street number in "Where to..." > Address > City > Street > Street number... the field displays letters (but only one per key)... But I can insert numbers when I write/spell the city name... Strange problems.... On the other side.... It's so "young" yet :-) BUT I like it... I didn't hear any noise in the earphone in GSM mode... sounds well, rings well, looks well, it's fast enough... Nokia Energy profiler measures 0,02W-0,04W...

I hear you all in these countries that do not have it in the shops yet but the frequencys bands are all there so there is no excuse..I am in uk so dont do too bad but were still nowhere near the Japanese and South Korean tech..I am going for E72 at present after dropping xperia x2 off my next fone list..These E series are really good ive never taken much notice being more an N-series fan..I wanted E90 at first but its dated and thought nokia world would have released a new one but they didnt..The e55 is scoring higher than e52 and top in rankings at moment,,i thought the simpler e52 keypad would make it more popular..?? The question is with a huge battery in the e55/e52 smartfone how do they cram all the electronics in bearing in mind theres card slot ,3.5mm jack and camera module in that space as well ??

It is already released at least in Finland. I just ordered it and it'll be in my hands this time by tomorrow. Can't wait for it really. My old phone was the e70 and this time I really wanted to go for something smaller. It has roughly the same features as e70 and it is still only 9.9mm thick (versus e70 which is 22mm thick!) Finally I can put it to my pocket with ease. And btw. gps doesn't hurt either!

End of october!?! Damn nokia! Nokia announced e55 6.5 months back man! I can wait till end of Sept but end of Oct is way too much. Why have they done away in E series with the joystick as in E50. The joystick is much easier than the 4+1 buttons. I love the E50 for that. Wish Nokia comes with another E series with a joystick

well for the price he did not mention it...but i had asked him to get one for me too, but on the second note i guess buying from India would be beneficial cuz here u will get warranty and if u buy it from hotspot then u get another 2 years extended warranty which covers all of liquid damage physical damage...i have waited for this phone for 5 months, i think ill wait another one month. Else ill get it imported....come on nokia release the beast in India.

The E72 is the true E series business phone from Nokia, kinda like the bestseller E71. That's why it's taking a bit longer for it to be released. The 1 month difference from the E52/E55 allows Nokia not only to price it accordingly but also to implement firmware fixes that were discovered with the E52/E55 "guinea pigs"

My uncle just bought this phone from japan to India, and i say its an awesome phone, swift soft keypads super-fast operations. The only thing it misses out is a dedicated keys of the phone book and the voice recorder which was present in E51. The internal memory is pretty less as compared with the E51, cuz soon it fills up the message inbox if u into tooooooo much of a messaging ,like i am. however u can choose which memory to use for storage either phone or memory card, but what i have experienced is that phone memory is much faster to access than the memory card. and one more thing which i did not find very impressive i don't know about others, is that in the gallery when u open the video folder then u have to turn the phone horizontally to view them, i dont know if its possible to view it vertically as you can view the pictures in the images folder. over all its a must buy thing....i am waiting for it to be available in India ASAP... +1 for E55

Be very careful when buying this, don't just look, start pulling and twisting the body to make sure it's solid !!! The front metal rim was loose on my phone, and i did't realise this until after buying it, i have it in service now, so be carefull.

i bought one 2 days ago in oxford circus, let the battery go dead, charged it fully, put some music on it. woke up today and the phone is DEAD!!! it wount even charge or sync with the pc. the build quality is even vorse than the e51, straight out of the box the front metal rim was falling off :(

please remember when we talking about global market, majority of people (read: middle low class), do not have a sophisticated mind like you. they just think simple, they watch the build design is attractive compact qwerty and they see it comes with popular network such as facebook, etc. and they look at the price.. CHEAP! they'll buy it without second thought. That might as well happen to many of other rich people who aren't geek and ignorant of full specs. See..? Even nexian type of blackberry is sold like hot cake because it has the same build factor as genuine bb (forget the specs!).. and costs less than usd 100.

ANYWAYS after all that i went and picked up my e55 black from the nokia flagship store in oxford circus and this fone is mint.. i had a samsung ultra tocco b4 this and that wasn't so bad in size ok! But this is thinner and oh so delecut.. as for the other stuff soz cant tell you much iv just put it on charge.. oh finally those with big fingers dont be put of by it its still jsut as easy to text wiv it once you get used to it =D

The best phone I ever had for writing was Nokia 9200. I was even able to make notes during lectures at the University. E55 has flat and wide keys. I had SE P1i for more than a year so I got used to this type of half qwerty keyboard. Typing is similar to P1i until you can use predictive text. When the phon has a problem it offers you to switch it off. Then you have to remember to bress twice on the key with second letter which takes a bit more time.

Good opinion, i did a sit down about 2 months ago and decided what i actually use on a fone and not just having the latest top smartfone and one thing i noted was why i got rid of xperia1..It was becauase of keypad hard to use in daylight and texting whilst walking was impossible for me,,so,,altho i had the latest snazzy model in the real world for me was unusable..So your comment on being able to use the half qwerty may be troublesome is one of the most logical opinions so far...

For your information and anyone else in the UK, the Nokia flagship store in Regent Street, London got their first E55 phones (in black and/or white) on Thursday 13th August 2009. They also have the E52 (but only in grey alluminium), so if you are in the area it might be worth a visit to compare the 2 "alternatives" side by side. Me? I am waiting for the Graphite Grey (black) version of the E52. I'm not sure i could cope with the half-qwerty keypad on the E55 on a day to day basis.

The enhanced focus may allow this tho but not sure,,a person said earlier that it can focus at 10 cm this maybe enuf but a review will confirm this..Must get more info on this enhanced focus..The e55 is powering ahead in peoples interest over e52 and e72,,i thought e72 would attract more buyers ??

Hi Friends, I am from Jakarta. E52 was released about 4 weeks earlier in Indonesia. Nokia showroom never had the stock but all shops already had boxes displayed and on sell. When I asked the Nokia showroom they said they never heard of this model E52 and only know E51 which is discontinued. LIARS... I bought E52 from one shop at USD 350. Beautiful handset and it had all sort or accessories, warranty card. How can Nokia showroom say that it is not their product. But since its release at USD 350 and today in 3 weeks the price dropped to USD 295. USD 55 drop in 3 weeks. I am sure it will soon hit USD 270 and will stay at that price for atlease a couple of months. But E52 must agree is the good phone. No complaints whatsoever. I like this model a lot. It is loaded with apps and funtions. I would say well connected device. Bye guys.

I got it on 8th of August in a computer shop in Opole, Poland - a week before it was announced on Nokia Poland site. It costs 1399 PLN wich is 335 Euro or 466 USD. Typing is similar to SE P1i that I have, you just got to press twice if you need the second letter, but only if you switch the predictive text off. Its really fast. I was amazed by the camera: comparing to P1i (the same 3,2 MP) the pictures are much brighter and the flash light works much better. It dosn't have autofocus so you can't take picture of a visit card, but you can read a book throught it from a distance of about 10-12 cm ( 4-5 inches). From there the depth of the field has no limits. After one charging last thursday night I'll have to do it tonight which means a week. I think the next time it will work longer to charging. The answer key is deeper under the calendar key: it takes time to get used to.

The camery is definetly better then P1i: pictures are brighter, especially in interiors, and the flash light is very good. Keyboard is flat but the keys are big even for those who have big thumbs. When you write a word and it's not in the dictionary, the phone offers you to spell and the predictive typing switches off. My only problem is that internet doesn't work, but I have to check it with my provider.

It's smaller and faster. Pictures look better on the screen (I don't know if the look better on the computer yet), althought there is no autofocus. Battery lasts longer than 4 days of P1i. I'll tell you more in a couple of days. And it's got a build in GPS.

I switched the predictive text off although it's in polish because when I tried to write a name or something that wasn't in the dictionary took me some time to make it correct. I didn't like T9 in the past that's why I'm not skilled in something like that. I write fast without looking at the screen, yhat's why I prefer writing more slowly than wasting more time to make corrections later.

I bought e55 two days ago in a computer shop in Poland. Looks and works much better than any other phone I had. I've been using SE P1i for a year and a half and I must say, that the half qwerty keyboard works similar, but I switched off the predictive text input. Using it a lot for the last 2 days I still have the batery half loaded. And its very fast: copying almost 2 thousands contacts from Outlook Express took it some 30 seconds.

Hi, I went to nokia Indonesia today, and got some secret. ....I was asking about Nokia E72, in which I got a reply it won't come on Indonesian market, THEN... I was asking about the Nokia 5530XM. Because it's already on the front page of the nokia.co.id. The sales girl also said it didn't/won't come on Indonesia market. "Nokia 5530 tidak ada, kayaknya tidak akan keluar". Her friend said to me almost whispering, that it is the company policy not to promote product that were not on display yet. Because it will make customer wait, and cancel the purchase. one thing among the others.. I asked the girl at Nokia counter. She's the one who said that. not me. That nice girl also said that the manual inside E52 box is actually the manual for E55.. Second, in my previous conversation with the guy who has a brother working at nokia singapore (if you would scroll to previous pages), you'll find that apparently nokia is working on predictive input text, so they can optimized the compact qwerty on E55 in bahasa indo. That means you don't need to press twice altough each keypad contains two letters. the bad news is nobody know when they're going to finish this if ever they finished. See.. they don't want to sell half qwerty here in Indo for that reason. Not much use of a keyboard unless they have optimized it in bahasa. still willing to wait? silahkan.. ;).

I don't understand why in the specifications of GSM Arena for this phone and for others like E52, they have HTML Browser and Nokia 5630 XpressMusic what have the same OS browser and in the specs appears like being WAP/xHTML only, what it isn't true. Yes please, predictive for bahasa :). As for english I can use t9 for faster type. I like it, but the problem is.. not all my business correspondence understand english. So I have to use bhs most of the time typing messages. I hope to make it easier and faster with E55. if you don't mind with baggy phone, E72 is a sure bet. Adikku owns E71 and he loves it.

talking about predictive input, do you really think that you need that predictive input? I myself often write an sms that were not in dictionary to cut cost several character. I often use a mix of english and indonesian word too. so, for me predictive input is very not necessary. For me, I think I might get the E72 to replace my oldie E61i and Nokia 5530 or Nokia E52 (still haven't decide which one to get) to replace my other GSM. (I have 2 GSM + 1 CDMA).

bm stuff is actually the same as the original stuff. sometimes a stuff in 1 country have different price in the other country. that's where the bm come in... anyway. I have bad experience with BM stuff. When I bought my first smartphone (Nokia 3650), and my second smartphone (Nokia 6600). I wasn't aware that nokia has an original store. I went to Roxy square & mangga 2. There were thousands of handphone store. Therefore, I thought that's the way to buy handphone. It turn out that the batery that I got were replaced with non original nokia (both the 3650 & 6600). The phone it self were original and have a good quality. After that 2 phone, I never look at the bm store. The funny thing is, if you compare to all nokia original store (era, sentra, global, oke) the original nokia store sell the phone cheaper than the BM store, and you can use credit card without 3% surcharge in the original store. But... The E55 will comeout in Indonesia (soon) with APAC (Asian Pacific) firmware. If you notice in Indonesia, there were a couple of store that sell nokia (global, oke, sentra, era, etc). And one of them (not sure which one, because they all said nokia), is often to cary the APAC version of the phone. I know this because I need the chinese character/input in my phone. And one of them can supply me the APAC version with the chinese character/input. I bet one of these might sell the E55.

The words from one of nokia executive @ singapore that i know is, if there seems enough demand they will do it faster. If no one in Indonesia or malaysia asking to nokia center (visit and ask got higher point, e-mail, and calling) then nokia will presume that the interest in E55 were small. But that nokia executive said that E55 will be eventually come out in Indonesia, since they already have T9 for Indonesian language. And since there will be a followup to the E55 in a years or two. What they need is more time to polish the compaq QW-ER-TY. Since this is the E series, they don't want to throw a half baked product and got negative feeling on their flagship series.

Thanks jvh. I sent an email to Italian Nokia website asking if they do UK delivery as the delivery form doesn't seem to allow overseas delivery but they haven't come back. I think Android is already moving faster. And just think the first Android device came out not even a year ago and look all the stuff in Android market. If I'm not mistaken there are now 4 Android handsets out now but a ton more due out this year. I think Nokia should really consider Android even if just to test the waters. I think symbian 5th edition is just horrible

I can confirm that the italian version comes with a universal mini usb charger. The plug is a simple euro two pin one which will work in most of continental europe but not in the uk. The manual is in italian only.

sorry to disagree. this phone brings brilliant new concept with it. with new predictive input, you can type it easy like full qwerty, and even got bigger keypads than bulky E72! regarding the screen it is also pretty much the same. so why carry fat lady when you can put your hand unto slim nice girl?

I think this phone has no place... for a complete, cheap model you'll go for the E52... for a true qwerty with fancy extras like a better camera you'll go for the E72... the E55 is lost somewhere in the middle and in my opinion will not sell well. Heard that all mobile phone companies are introducing universal charger which works on all types of phones. 1. Does the Italian version of E55 come with this type of universal charger or a Nokia specific one? 2. 1. E55 and E52 should have similar spec - both an upgrade to E51. E52 - normal keyboard and smaller internal memeory (100mb?), E55 - qwerty keyboard and bigger internal memory (160mb?) 2. Yes, I've waited a long time for the phone since it was announced back in Feb. No one in the Nokia shop can tell me when it will come out or show me a prototype. If I buy from the Italian nokia website, anyone knows if it is free of any local restriction that I can use a UK / Far East sim card? Thanks.

I have it in my hands since yesterday (I live in Italy and I ordered it on July 12th). It already arrived via UPS at the beginning of this week but I had to get back home from a vacation first. The handset looks good and sits comfortably in the hand. It is also quite light (I had a samsung z150 before = 79g so I can feel its 95g) The screen is nice, sharp and large. Readability is good, outside in bright sunlight it appears ok. The half-qwerty keyboard: the predictive input works nicely and (it seems to me) better than classical t9. It is also very easy and quick to use the keyboard in multi-tapping mode (only two taps are needed for any letter). The qwerty layout is more intuitive and easy to learn than it would seem. In short: it did not take me long to be quite fast in writing on this keyboard (consider that I have always been very slow on keypads with a classical (e52 style) keypad though). Email integration is excellent: just giving it details of my gmail account the terminal set up automatically access to my account using nokia messaging. The client is very clean and easy to learn. The terminal offers to download Voip and chat applications like gizmo5, ovi contacts and vyke mobile. I tested gizmo5 and used it to call my skype account using my home wlan network. It worked but there was a significant 1 second delay. I bet this depends on the gizmo5 network though. The italian version comes with two pre-installed games: solitaires and block cascade (a type of tetris). Demos for n-gage games can be easily downloaded directly from the terminal. Ok, that's all for now, more news as I keep playing with it. Ciao to everybody.

The buttons are still bigger than that of the e71/e72. BTW, this keypad uses predictive typing..it's more accurate than t9 though if you tap the button twice to get to the second letter.

when I looked just the picture I prefer black colour by far. but once I saw demo video on youtube, my opinion change. White is indeed nicer and brighter for people to lokk that this is ACTUALLY a qwerty phone :D. but the thing that really annoys me is why nokia nitpicking and only give D-pad to E72 and not E52 & 55. Look at samsung i7110. at the same size as e55 but also get optical trackpad!!

I think the keypad operation will be like SonyEricsson P1/M600. Each keypad may have axis, so Q for left and W for right.

Quick question - how would you use the compact qwerty keypad on a phone like this - for example the first key has a "Q" and a "W" on it. Do you have to double tap it to get a "W" and single click it to get a "Q" and so on for all the other keys? Any idea when it will be released in the UK?

I already seen the dummy and quite impressed with the aesthetics of the new Nokia E55. Just bear in mind that this is still a phone, if you are looking for something over these small little gadget, buy a desktop or a laptop. For sure it will give you the best speed and all the tralala that you are looking for. You just can't put it in your pocket though. And for the one that's not charging, check first, maybe you forgot to plug it, if its still not working, return it and get the new one. Simple, dont brag on the small stuff, use your Common sense

Folks, I compared the E52 and E55 and found no difference what so ever except for the half qwerty keyboard between the two handsets. And E52 has been released. Half Qwerty is something at least I can give up without thinking twice. With all other specs exactly the same, I am going in for this.

Nothing is written on India web site. These phones (E52 and E55)were there in Nokia India website for a month or so and now they have removed and no official word yet whether these phones would be launched in India..........Since the specs of these phones are better than E63 most probably these are priced higher than 13K if at all they are launched in India!!!!!

I spoke with Nokia once again and they confirmed that E55 will be avaible at the beginning of august, but the exact date is unknown. Have to wait till august then.
