Really loved this phone(used this phone Sep/2011 until June/2013), when suddenly I got an iPhone and had to use it as mobile phone, because it wouldn't work without SIM. However, this phone had some bad minuses when being outdated and getting news that Symbian is a "dead platform" - such as social network(twitter, instagram, fb, whatsapp and so on) non-existance, no 3.5mm audio jack, camera(OK, that's good in few situations), awful integrated web browser, unused flashlight - that only works when you're turning mobile on, max. 2GB memory stick and could be more. Oh, no themes at all. Didn't find any on the Internet. Oh, and my phone had a very, very bad glitch - after sending a text message it just lagged and was able to use only after 5(!!) minutes. I lived with this problem for more than year, even experienced a period when someone could call me for ~7 minutes in hour. In the 53 minutes I sent text messages and read the incoming ones. After clean re-install(it was complicated to find SMS importer), this problem disappeared, but came again after a month. Ehh. My most favorite feature here(and which I am missing in iPhone) was QWERTY. I managed to write almost as fast as on computer, and also almost all of symbols were very fast to find. Another good thing was very low Internet usage(10-15MB per month - and 800-1000 SMS's). Obviously because Opera Mini with Images:off, or when you really need to see images, medium is enough. No games, no battery/time waste when nothing to do. Wi-fi. Was able to find >10 networks and list them(unlike iPhone's 4-5.)Sadly, E61 wasn't able to connect with newest routers, including my new one, so at home I had to use neighbor's one. And in the end, very comfortable to me is feeling the phone in my hand, pocket(ripped two jeans pockets) or somewhere else. Durable - fell from second floor against tiles, back's upper part came down, but it still worked. It even worked after being puked on. it could be i am a fan of qwerty.. but I really miss that! :|

This is a very good phone. I have been using it since 2007 and other than some of the plastics getting chipped, the wifi, data, bluetooth are all working fine. It is one of the best phones that I have owned. Too bad that Nokia did not continue with this series.

I have a slight hearing problem and this is the best phone I have ever used for clear sound. Find the keyboard easy to use after taking time to get used to it. Also find it simple to navigate through the menus, better than others I have used in the past.

I have been using E61 since late 2006, almost 4 years now. The only problem that occurred to it was a joystick that went broken (didn't click in) after 2.5 years of very intensive usage. After having replace the joystick, I am still using this phone. True, the OS (9.1) is somewhat dated, no YouTube or Facebook apps available for it. But given the excellent work of the smartphone's primary functions including calling, sending/receiving SMS, MMS, push email with the support of Exchange, - it's still a great device for everyday private and business usage. There are also quite a lot of apps available for E61 including both 9.1-specific apps and java apps as well. Another advantage is that the phone is extremely well-built, the main material being metal. I dropped it on all kinds of surfaces many times: no issues whatsoever!

Excellent blackberry alternative. Plug and play with Windows for drag and drop file transfers. Reads and supports all office output formats. (I dragged and dropped a powerpoint presentation into it, then ran the presentation right off the phone, no problem.) No camera? So what. This is a phone for people who have more important things to do than take pictures of the random cat doing dumb shit. If you want to take good pictures, get a digital camera. A good digicam beats any phone cam any day anyway, if quality is your goal. WLAN integration is a bit.... hokey. The way it's arranged. But that could be because my phone is from another country and is unlocked. Overall, excellent phone with nice durability.

I purchased this phone when it first hit the market. I loved it and felt that this phone was ahead of its time. They keyboard is still very nice to type on after all these years and the screen is great for such an early model smartphone. I purchased tomtom navigator 6 and it never got me lost. Since the E61, I have purchased the E71, N96, and N97. As far as the GPS using Ovi Maps goes on the newer phones, forget it - Ovi Maps is terrible. If you have this phone, hang on to it. I fired mine up last week and it still works great.

I use blackberry connect from my provider (indosat-indonesia),and its work great,flawless. Email client also very good.one which i concern the most is the battery life which becoming shorten after 2yrs.and e61 use one of the most expensive battery in nokia handset.

Hmmm the E61 doesn't have the A2DP or music streaming profiles (i.e. one that works with the PC) - nor can it even be used as a bluetooth PC remote - since there's no HID profile :( It plays mono when used with my stereo bluetooth headphones so I use a single 'hands free' bluetooth earpiece headset for streaming audio (in mono) by bluetooth. It can't stream music to the PC at all by bluetooth (despite connecting to my PCs headset profile). The E61 came with a single earpiece wired headphone set (HS-5) and I then separately bought a set of stereo wired headphones (HS-23). While the stereo sound through these is reasonable, it does mean trailing wires.In all other respects I love the E61 - but its poor bluetooth facilities mean that I will be buying an E75 also soon. The E75 does have version 2.0 bluetooth with A2DP stereo streaming. It also has two cameras and does video calling (properly) and also has A-GPS and HSDPA 3.5G and more memory and takes microSD cards up to 16GB. The E61 is a great phone still in all other respects. If (all facilities of) bluetooth, camera(s) and GPS don't matter to you, it really is a brilliant phone. It has 3G, wifi, bluetooth (to some extent), infrared, a fairly large memory, takes up to 2GB miniSD cards without any slowdown or problems, a brilliant full qwerty keyboard, pretty good loudspeaker, a brilliant OS, looks cool - and is cool, then I thoroughly recommend the E61. I love my E61! The keyboard is really nice to tipe on. There are just two things that bother me: 1) When I download an application from the net(on my phone), it download the full thing, but at the end it say "Unable to install." My service provider said they need to upgrade my software, but at a price I'm not going to pay. Can I just download the updated software via PC Suite or do I have to take it in? 2) When I connect my phone to my PC via cable, it sometimes disconnects by it self or my PC doesn't read the phone. Could this also be because of the outdated software and what can I do? Thanks!

Got the replacement E61 - and put on lock and wipe codes just in case. Hmmm I'm surprised I didn't remember that the E61 lacks a lanyard hole :( and it's hard finding a decent protective case for it since it is physically wider than most other mobile phones. Oh well. At least it's nice to have a decent phone again until I get the E75. It's unlocked so trying various networks SIMs to see which I like best. I've already put on a firewall and anti-virus package. BTW I have also out a deposit on an E75 which I will be buying shortly.I didn't expect to like it actually - but it was a choice between the E75 and a Nokia 5800 touchscreen - and having a play with them, I preferred the E75. Where my nokia N96 is nearly falling apart. My E61 is as solid as the day i got it. Haven't used it for a year now until today. Forgot how good the keyboard is to use ect. And all my 3rd party apps work on it from my N96. Worth keeping and worth using.

Hi The E61 has bluetooth v1.2 with mono audio streaming via bluetooth. So I guess it depends what you are looking for. It works with the bluetooth dongle on laptop for transferring files and synchronisation and telephony/modem purposes - but not for audio streaming (it has no A2DP profile). Hmmm my E61 got stolen while I was in hospital (I was a bit careless) - but I'm getting another one. I was going to buy a s/h Nokia 9300 (lightweight) Communicator to tide me over until I got enough cash together for an E71 - but the E61 leaves the 9300 for dust. I'll be a LOT more careful wih this one. I found the E61 to be a wicked phone really lacking only on A2DP stereo bluetooth - I'm not bothered about a camera on the phone. Pity mobiles are such thief magnets.

Hi all I've just bought a s/h E61 about a week ago and it's really a wicked phone. I wish it had cameras for video calls but I can live without that. A bigger letdown for me is the lack of A2DP stereo bluetooth - its mono only through my stereo bluetooth headphones :( - but everthing else about the phone is brilliant - its 3G (though I do miss HSPDA - but umts is ok), its wifi (brilliant), Its infra-red which allowed me to transfer data from an old infra-red phone and its brilliant keyboard. I actually prefer it to an E71, as being diabetic myself, the huge screen and wide keyboard is great - that bit of extra width makes a big difference given my poor vision because of the diabetes. I love that it can view/edit my Word documents etc. I'm surprised by the lack of FM radio - but in all other respects - including battery life - this phone rocks. I give 9.75 out of 10.0 and it is almost the perfect mobile.

Hi NEETU, First of all you have to know about the about the message centre number of your network service provider,normally it is as +12digits, then; Follow the instructions go to messanging_options_setting_Text message_Message Centres_Option_New msg.centre_Message Centre (type the name as per your choice may be your service provider name)_OK_Msg.centre number(type the msg.centre number, then press ok now you will find a new message centre number in the list, you have to select that msg.centre number in the msg.centre in use field. hopeful it will solve your problem.

THIS IS THE BENCHMARK FOR ALL INTERNET PHONES. Though there are new models out there, this phone could still stand up to those in performance. It has great Wifi, OS, and the possibilities of how the phone could be use is endless. I use min for the office, for internet gaming, and intertainment. There are countless of office programs that works for the phone, there are a lot of internet games i can play (MMO, MMORPG like travian, kingsage. etc). there are thousands of mobile games that works well with it. And the music player and movie player works well too esp while travelling long distances (pls. dont use it while flying)- you just need a decent headset like a SKULLCANDY-BOSE-ETC and an adaptor. The only thing missing is the camera, and it make sense because this is originally created as a business phone. And that's why i love it, i can use it in the office without posing any danger to office security and policy. This phone rocks, my E61 is almost 3 years old, i got it as soon as it hit the market, and it still is running good as new. Its a hard phone to beat, even by those touch-screen phones which are so inconvenient.

just find a wifi hot spot, the phone could detect that automatically. If the wifi connection if free then you can surf using the wifi as the connection option. But if there is a charge, like the ones at starbucks (boo...) then you'd pay.

I just bought this phone and at first this phone doesnt look good but as you get used to it .. .. will not take weeks just a few days.. you will start liking it.. the messaging is alo easier then other similar QWERTY phones. it has all the features that some one will look for in a handset like this. and be clear of one thing the phone companies wont provide you with every thing in just one phone .. they will deliberatly miss some features as in this case its the camera.. if they put all the features in a phone then no one will have ever felt the need of buying another phone...... I've used E61 for a few months & its a Great Internet phone, Web browsing is Brill on the Large Screen, Battery is far Better than any other Nokia Phone, I now have Upgraded to the Nokia E61i, which is even Better now having a Camera & Faster Operating Software,it has'nt crashed on me once. Forget the Nokia E71 its Screen is Far too small & if you have Big Fingers Typing on the E71 is Annoying. BUY THE E61i you wont regret it.

I love this phone, talk time is good enough and its wifi connection is great, its like using a laptop. The only problem that Ive encountered on this phone is this hangups while changing or browsing applications. Oh well it doesn't matter as long as you can use it for calls and text messages. It would be advisable to use a leather case to avoid scratches on the casing.

Hey Edy, if expired certificate appears to the screen, set the phone date earlier than the application/software that you will be installing, (eg, application date 05/21/2003, set the phone date to 05/10/ 2001 etc. as long as it is earlier than the application) when the application/software had been intalled, you could now restore the correct date.

I have been using my E61 for more than a year now. I find it great and my best companion. I gave my laptop to my brother and have been using my E61 to get connected online in yahoo messenger, hotmail, multiply, Friendster and almost any sites that I want to browse. It connects quickly via wifi. But started only yesteray when it gets low batt, i recharge my E61 then when I tried to connect again, I cannot open the Web option..I dont know why or what was the cause..for one whole day I miss getting connectd until now am trying to trace/check what was problem.. anybody can help? many thanks in advance...

I have been using the phone for 1 week now and I am satisfied with some progress in using the E61 and its features. Wifi Is Fantastic! Screen is superb! I can tell you, It will only READ 2GB Card Im using 2GB Micro SD and used a MINI SD converter Works fine, but When I plug in the 4GB Micro SD into the Converter, the phone reads, Memory currupted.. And so with the videos I want inside my phone I converted VIDEOS to 3gp forma to fit in the 2GB and it took me a while but I have saved 4 full length MOVIES! To save more Memory, I CONVERTED the videos from 320x240 to 160x120 and believe me the movies still worked just fine and it still filled the sreen very well! Superb!!! I love this phone!!!!! Good luck guys and enjoy movies WIFI internet browsing and communicating with this phone!!

i tried .avi before, it's not working :P. but 3gp is work very well but the quality of 3gp could make people who watch movies on E61 cry.. i'm watching all my videos all in mp4 format (be sure to convert them to fit the screen 240x320 pixels) each mp4 is about 27mb to 30mb size for 2hours' usual dvd movie. and the quality is superb both for fps and the sound. (tips: convert to 29.97 frame per second for best watching experience). oh btw, if u own this unit and wants to fit a wallpaper, the TRUE size of wallpaper fitted on the screen maximum should be 320X200 pixels landscape mode. hope this helps :)

This is my review in 2008, just for a reminder.. hope this could helps people who wants to own this phone in future. Pros: + superb voice clarity during calls + very good signal reception everywhere + great comfortable thin design + good full-fuctional qwerty keyboard + good & realible phonebook + useful 64mb internal memory with around 46,5mb ram always available in standby + fast writing speed in message or notes, no lag + great display quality + software compitability with other Nokia official themes of Eseries & Nseries making the phone's menu interface always look new (this is a very good mark, by the way) + fast menu interface of the symbian OS + complete kinds of feature & connection such pop-portUSB, IrDa, Bluetooth, GPRS, EDGE, 3G, Wlan, Modem, PTT (the last one is totally useless) + great internet browser plus wifi + nice and user-friendly mp3 player + very good music quality using original Nokia HS-23 handsfree set (found in-box with N80 or others) + editable equaliser for optimal good sound experience + remakable speed even using 2gb card (I'm using original Nokia miniSD) + great build quality, steel bodyparts/ cover. NOT PLASTIC like ordinary phone. + very good battery life. Cons: - no camera (yes - business needs camera) - so sadly, no radio with RDS - slow java (.jar games / application) - slow message reading ..IF.. using memory card as the default sms storage - joystick, not as friendly as Dpad - only one minute voice recording available as default (don't talk about 3rd party software-this still a loss) - not even standard repeat alarm available - keyboard needs to be improved for maximum ease of use (straight example; while driving - even it's so unsafe using ANY phone, actually) - disastrous & unrecognisable sound / ringtone / music quality when using maximum volume via loudspeaker (this one is a serious drawback of otherwise good phone) - pop-port connector, not miniUSB - no standard 3,5mm audio jack (oh well, at least 2,5mm will do!) - not ergonomic sim card bed (this issue may only occur for people who changes their simcards often, it's not really matters actually) - miniSD access possible only if you remove the battery cover first. Now the thing is about this, the Eseries born kind of 'all-business' thing, so they were meant to keep most secret valueable datas of the user very carefull, that means the storage (memory card) are designed to be located hidden under battery cover for maximum protection. But still, if you own this unit of E serie and if you keep confidental data on it, will you ever let anyone touch your phone from the first place? If anyone really wants your data they will just go (steal) for the phone, instead of the memory card only. note: 1. I don't miss a secondary videocall camera, but adding it will make it compelete of course. 2. I know some of the above-mentioned cons are covered with the update model of E61i, but some things are just stand for itself. Like this unit, i just won't exchange it for E61i just because of minor issues above. Hope u get what i mean. cheers folks :)

I have the same Q.. i didnt c anyone respond.. which is a better buy, the Nokia E61, or the BB 8800?.. the Ne61 has a limit of 2GB memory card, i a bulkier phone than the sleek BB.. but the BB8800 does not have a Wi-fi....... THe way I see it is that if a consumer is looking for a Business phone with focus on office emails, etc and not much of "consumer-related fun elements" in the phone (read videos, multimedia, games etc) .... then nothing comes close to the stability of a BB...but a Nokia will give a good feel of all the fun-related elements with the Business features as the extra feature (it can also have BB connectivity)....... trust this helps.... I think I will go buy the e61 from eBay.....

it cannot support 4gb micro sdhc. i tried with adapter (microsd to minisd) but the phone simply cannot read the card. then i tried the memeory card to n82 and it work seamlessly. so this unit support up to 2gb only. and i'm using it right now from ori nokia card 2gb. it's not enough though

I have a different Nokia phone, but I setup multiple reminders through the calendar function. One calendar note for each time period needed, then tell calendar to repeat the event.I had a hard time keeping track of my grandkids school times, gymnastics, and other schedules. (They live with me.) My calendar allows you to copy events from one day to another day. I entered all the events on Monday, told calendar to repeat every Monday, then copied these events to the other days of the week. You can also put scheduled events in your to-do list with an alarm. You are wrong man. Actually this phone has EDGE connectivity but at the phone screen ikon didn't show the letter E that usually appears in many nokia model. For verification you could refer to user guide manual book or could be downloaded at nokia website as pdf file.

E61 is Better than new e63 esspecially for its large viewing web page browsing, comfortable large qwerty keyboard, and good 3G reception in poor coverage area. Recently i have e63 but then i'd switched back to e61. Only i miss is the internet radio and camera in e63.

yeah sure u can connect ur E61 to wifi .. first go to > Web >Options >Settings >Access Point change the access point from "User defined" to "Always ask" . Press OK . Then Restart web browser .. you will see an option "Search for WLAN " then connect to your available WIFI connection. if its locked with key,then enter that to get connected.. Enjoi surfing..

This phone is the best I've ever had. no unnecessary features yet there's everything you will ever need (no childish camera and thank god for that!), easy to use, fantastic design (lots of aluminum, instead of 100% plastic!), pretty good battery life for what it's capable of (surfing using wi-fi etc.), good sound. Just about everything. It's kind big by the looks of it, but it doesn't feel anything like that, it sits in hand perfectly. It's maybe really hard to type with one hand, but it's not meant for that. I think you could write a book on this- it's so fast, comfy and responsive. The keypad has sort of nice, soft feel to it- kind of matte like and it doesn't slip. The only drawback when it comes to design is the kinda gaps it has between the keypad and the whole case- it traps the dust and everything really easily. Also, some people say this phone is slow, it's not bad AT ALL. I could use 5 programs all at once and it keeps going perfectly smooth.

Hi! My great grievance is related to the latest Opera Mini browser, as it crashing far to frequwently on my e61. It also means that I must do lots of resetting after the crashes (saved pages mainly - they work rather quizzycally anyway). Hope somebody solved the problem - but no trace of it on the Web...

Get the E61. Blackberry "claims" that they are smart-phones, but a smart phone is defined as a multi-tasking device which mean having muliple programs going on at the same time. The E61 can multitask like no other! If you choose any blackberry and load a program, and then if you go away from it or open a new one, it will close the previous program. That type of phone is called a dumb-phone. Go with the E61, its by far the best phone I've ever had.

Hello, I actually figured out the answer. Apparently, applications stored in nokia memory cards are hidden so you need to make sure that you set up your pc to view hidden folders. In this way, you can copy everythin in your old memory card and transfer them to the new one. �

I recently bought a memory card (mini sd 2 gig) to upgrade my 64 mb memory card. I just noticed that some files were not transferred like the applications (adobe reader, zip, etc.). I did format the new card using my phone. I used a memory card reader and my pc to copy my files. The only things that were transferred were my pics, music and videos. Help! What do I do?

My Nokia E61 works perfect. The best phone I have ever had but I have realized that I cannot surf in the majority of pages. Wonderful phone, i have 1240 contacts with full detail for each entry includeing first last name,2 address,4 phone numbers, 3 emails, note, and pictures on most of it. it works wonderfully as my life & work depends on this phone. My calender is also updated daily for the past 2 years with this phone. Syncs perfectly with outlook. the only comment would be the slow speaker volume. Maybe the technology for speakers was not that great when this phone was developed. Overall verdict : up to my expectation.

Hi chantelle, you probably blown the light circuits, the best thing to do if u drop ur fone in water is to not power it on or connect it 2 a power source until its completely dry. If you take it sevice center they will charge u a fortune. I would take it to a 3rd party mobile phone shop and tell them u want the screen replaced cos ur lights aint workin. Try take it to a shop where they have the screen in stock. That way if dont work or thay cant fix it, they cant really charge you. Just say nothing about water, although they will prob know when they open it, anyway just say nothing.

i tried to open xls file 118kb (776 rows,4 columns)with built in office application it took 34 seconds, then i tried quick office, surprisingly it took only 5 seconds. overall for opening sms and email (mail for exchange) its a bit slow though i installed sms accelerator. its stable OS and like it. a bit heavy and your finger will numb bec its thin and a bit wide. typing with this phone is nice. good phone in overall.

I've found this to be quite the pleasant little phone. It has its niggles, some of the menu navigation can get quite laggy from time to time, but not unbearably so. Did notice an oddness in my device though, sometimes, for no apparent reason, the screen flashes white, but returns to normal, the whole affair lasting less than a second. I have this phone since April 2005 (E61) Why ohh why has NOKIA not released a REAL update to the original E61? I mean what have the done for the past 3YEARS??? When you really think about it, after two years they attach a camera to the E61, I mean they could have done that from the beginning that's why the E61i is not what you call an update. At the time when it came out, it was revolutionary, now it's too big/wide, ugly, slow, doesnt support more than 2gigs, no cam or low res cam, no radio, bad battery, the app keys on the E61i are useless, lack of internal storage, no usb, no gps. Gosh, i mean its not like they dont have the technology to remake one. All they would need to do is reshape the N82 into a slim attractive QUARTY phone and add some security features with maybe blackbarry connect for our business folks, thats it. Why cant they do that????? I mean there is a huge market for that, just look at how many ppl are running around with blackbarries! Nokia could own that market if they were smart!

A phone full of posibilities, but lacks a LOT of performance. I currently have 173 contacts full of details and the phone can't handle it. If you have 10 contacts that will be fine. This is a phone only to watch technology possibilites, in terms of work, it doesn't fit... Great capabilities, but SLOOOOOWWWWW performance. VERY SLOW... Also lacks applications. The Quick Office package is a nice try, but only to try. When it comes to hard word, the device sits down and watch you... Maybe the E90 will be better for adult work, I'll give this E61 to my nephew so that he can play games with it...

Pros: + superb voice clarity during calls + very good signal reception everywhere + great comfortable thin design + good full-fuctional qwerty keyboard + good & realible phonebook + useful 64mb internal memory with around 46,5mb ram always available in standby + fast writing speed in message or notes, no lag + great display quality + software compitability with other Nokia official themes of Eseries & Nseries making the phone's menu interface always look new (this is a very good mark, by the way) + fast menu interface of the symbian OS + complete kinds of feature & connection such pop-portUSB, IrDa, Bluetooth, GPRS, EDGE, 3G, Wlan, Modem, PTT (the last one is totally useless) + great internet browser plus wifi + nice and user-friendly mp3 player + very good music quality using original Nokia HS-23 handsfree set (found in-box with N80 or others) + editable equaliser for optimal good sound experience + remakable speed even using 2gb card (I'm using original Nokia miniSD) + great build quality, steel bodyparts + good battery life. @Vic:E61 has 2 browsers the main browser is a full html browser similar to or even better than apple i-phone safari.The second is the basic wap2.0/xhtml browser for browsing and downloading from wap and xhtml sites.You can download and install normally like any other sets but for some symbian(.sis/.sisx) files, you might have to go to your app. manager and turn off online certificate check and switch software installation to all from settings

On E61 Contacts, Settings, there are a couple of display options a) Last nm, First nm, b) First nm, Last nm - but find that it makes no difference whatever I choose - it always displays Last name followed by first name - any tips ?

I think this is a great phone, I have had many phones and pdas and still have them but am using this all the time. The E61 is a wonderful device. From WiFi to 3G but ofcourse with no camera. One can still put a still image. If you are ever looking for an all round device and you don't need a camera the E61 is for you.. I'm loving my unit everyday..

I have this Nokia E61 and I find it to be a brilliant business tool,I have had it for just over a year now and I am still not using all of its functions. I use the E-mail's personal as well as business. I use the calander and contacts on a daily basis, I have now started to use the Nokia Maps and the voice activated turn by turn is great. I highly recommend this phone as a serious business tool.

the phone in my opinion is wonderful. from microsoft office to the ever lasting battery this is a must buy. this phone has everything imaginable like it has mor then one way to do the same thing, such as the fact as it has bluetooth and infrared and multimedia to transfer files. although it lacks a camera it makes up for it with a plethora of options that most phones don't have. it is a must buy and all the people who say otherwise are mistaken and should know i dislike them with great intensity.

This phone has caused many problems for me. It is horrible with text messages, taking anywhere from 5-10 minutes to send a text in which case I cannot receive any calls, texts or emails. In addition, the phone tends to freeze quite a bit. Nice design however; good fit in the hand and relatively light in weight.

Its a great business phone for Internet surfing, downloading email messages from Gmail etc. Only downside for me is the weak phone reception. I sometimes cannot hear the person calling and have to call or be called at again. Great calendar function as I can see all my schedules onscreen. I don't need a camera so nothing lost in that aspect. Buy it!

Its a great business phone. Check or download Gmail messages. I like the schedule function that can be displayed onscreen. My only gripe is that when in a call, the sound fades and I can't hear the person on the other line. I have to call them again or vice versa. I also make sure my finger is out of the way of the built-in antenna. Other than that, a good phone.

I havent used E61 yet though I plan to buy one, however I have tested VoWLAN phones. To make possible to call VoIP over WiFi first you need to have a connection to an Internet Service Provider (DSL, Cable, etc). Connect the WiFi to the modem/router provided and then set the phone according to the router settings (DHCP, manual, passwords, etc). To make possible to call (that is enable VoIP) over this connection I guess the provider needs to open certain ports on his side of the connection. You need to ask them to make it possible. Some of the ISP have their own VoIP infrastructure (you need to ask them). If you need to connect to an external one you need to check with them which ports are they using or generally what requirements they have. Hope that helped.

This phone is like a computer, but with some annoying little niggles that a computer dont have, like it is always timing out, slower, cant play lots of video formats, cant set default screen, button would be better than a joystick, but having said all this, i have always thought that nokia produce the best phones and this certainly measures up. Compared to other phones at the same price it wins by a long way. Sound is good, screen size, battery life. But could do with more software.

I able to send an recieve instant e-mail from my company e-mail server but unable to access contacts or global address book so that I have to input the e-mail address manually if I would like to send an e-mail. i got the phone a year ago, its the best i have ever used. a few flaw though, no camera, no free online symbian games and it cannot play videos taken with the n93i. if you are looking for a good qwert keybord, wifi phone, this is your choice (not the black berry, this) but if you like camera included, get the e61i, e65, n93i, n95. do not get the n80 because of the flawed baterries. thank you come again.

I have a couple of problems with this phone, first, i cant set the default screen size to 50 percent, can you do this ? second, i keep getting a web connection time out, can this be adjusted ? YO, for the sms problem- they have a fix on the nikia website. also if you upgrade the firmware this issue will be fixed. As for hotmail- you cant do it coz it's not a POP3. I switched to gmail and it works perfect for me.

I have been using the E61 since almost a year. The phone is great in all its features except that the s/ware one has to install for using Blackberry Connectivity completely screws up the text messaging feature.It takes forever to send a simple SMS and the phone freezes until the text is sent.

@Tony: The phone works for GMail(there's actually gmail software for this phone). I'm sure you could set up AOL as well. You will be able to access hotel wi-fi, but whether or not you have to pay depends on the hotel. Wi-fi doesn't cost any money, but certain networks charge you to use their bandwidth, such as T-Mobile and Vodafone. If you are near a random wireless router, you will be able to use the signal, providing it it is not password protected. Check out

@Jane I have E60 and had the same problem. EXACTLY the same issue. You know what happened. I took to the Nokia store and they did fix it, but the Warranty has become void. Because this happens when your phone gets some moisture (or in fact water) in the pop port which causes to it to short and this problem comes up. They will have to open it up and clean the pop port or might even replace it. Hope this helps:

i love my e61, great 16m screen, plus a battery to match its performance. Just my main issue is the joystick, after spending 4 months on it, and using it for playing games, it stopped working. Well be sending it to Nokia Care, i guess thats the issue why they opt for the dpad in e61i... and thats definitely my next upgrade, plus with the add on camera.. for normal usage, joystick will probably last more than 6 months i guess..

i have been a long time user of E61 and so far after upgrade the firmware 1st time. since then i have not encountered any problems until the other day when the headset icon keeps on appearing even if the headset is not connected. I couldn't use the fone for calling unless i plug in the headset. I have upgraded the firmware via nokia on-line and nothing happened. I brought it to an authorized rep initially they suspect the port is defective but its not so they 'upgraded the software of the phone'. i don't know if this is different from the one i did on-line but the icon was removed but after an hour it's back. Does anyone of you have an idea of what's causing this. would appreciate if you can mail me what to do? i love this phone but this problem is upsetting me. thanks.

The wi-fi is good and for easy and reliable connection, make sure that the signal strength is above 60%. It's very nice to surf the net thanks to its large screen with virtual map while scrolling the page. Moreover, for other user who may experienced their E61 freezed very often, do not use the phone memory at all, it's very bad.

You can install any software but then please ensure that your unit is not blocked. Go to Tools - Application Manager - Options - Settings - Software Installation - Click All The e61 is originally set to be cauitious on incoming 3rd party application softwares.

After a month using the E61, here are some of the pros and cons: Pros: 1. Great battery life. This is one of the most important feature for a smartphone. What good is it if you have all the features but without the juice to run it. I have tried a few PDA phones, including OS IIi, Palm Treo, Motorola MPX( the worst of the lot), none of them can last me a full day of usage without having to worry about battery strength. Imagine having to surfnet using the Wifi, paying MP3 and do all the mobile office stuff only to find that you risk loosing everthing because you are running out of battery. The E61 is the only phone That I have used that let me do all the about for the whole day in a single charge. 2. Great phone. The idea of having a smartphone is not to carry 2 items, i.e. one phone for communication and another PDA as a organizer. But the problem with most of the Windows mobile platform is that they fail miserably as a phone. The response time for WM phone is just not good enough as compared to normal handphones. The E61 excel in this area. 3. Connection. Wifi, 3G, Edge, Infrared, Bluetooth. Everything is here. 4. Great web browser. I thought nothing could beat the Mobile Explorer, But this browser render pages real well. And now the Cons: 1. Very Very slow office application. I just wonder why i have not come across a review on the web that point out this very glaring weakness. I bought this phone because i really need to work with lots of Excel and word document while i am out of office. But loading a 700k excel document (with about 5000 lines of records) with no special formating takes about 5 mins!!! and it takes equally amount of time to save!. This is just not acceptable. the same file took less than 30 second to open on a pocket excel. I used the n80 for a year now i got the e62 expecting to have the same multimedia features but no n80 can run divx and music at the same time and divx dose not lag plus if using agile messanger you can record a voice tag wile the music is playing on the e 62 the music or divx player becomes choppy cant send attachements by email ? Re: Does it supprt 2Gb memory cards? Yes, I have a 2Gb card in mine, works great, no noticable speed/performance loss compared to when I was using the default 64Mb card. I've read about other people having issues when trying to use a 4Gb card, and I've not yet read a success story with a 4Gb card. Thats not to say it can't be done, but it sounds like a 4Gb card will require a little more than just "plug-n-play" Re: Does it support GPS? Yes it will. I bought mine on the "grey market" in Shanghai, its from Hong Kong and came pre-loaded with some extra software which was loaded on the memory card. Several of these were items called Navigator, Position, and Landmarks. These are all designed to work with a separate GPS module connected via bluetooth. Search this board, you'll find more details. I assume you can download these from somewhere, but I don't know a source or the price The best app which came pre-loaded is a chinese-english dictionary which allows entries by strokes, pinyin, and english. I just got my E61 and I am completely satisfied! It's nothing short of amazing, only quirk is that it has no camera but thats no big deal. I am having trouble with gmail, I receive email just fine but am having trouble sending mail. It just won't do it. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks

Hy..I have a problem! I try to install Agile Messenger on my E61,and it keeps telling me "certificate may not yet be valid, is expired or phone date setting may be incorrect".I'm sure it's the correct version.I changed the setting to "All" in software installation and online certificate check to "Off" and I also changed my time setting to Auto Update, as someone recommended this...but still it does not work..it give's me the same error when installing some other programmes, too...please help me!

There is a new Software Update for the E61.This is the third update.Go to Nokia Website and use the Nokia Software Updater. With the problem regarding the keypad backlight not working in dark places,just do a software update and it will solve the problem.This problem was only on the very first E61's that were released in May 2006.My E61 had this problem but the software update cured it.

This is the best phone i've used, ever. This is my 6th nokia and my 10th of all. I've had others than nokia but this one really works! I had nokia 9500 before and it was the best so far but E61 is more stable. I had to upgrade the software two times but now it works as good as it will.

I have been actually very statisfied with this phone except one thing : the backlight of the keyboard disappeared about 4 montsh after I bought it in May 2006, a few weeks after it came out. It didn't bother me at the beginning and then I got used to it but now I wanna fix it while it is still under warranty. I read on the net that the problem is due to the fact that the light sensor gets dammaged after a certain time in the early E61s and it doesn't light up the keyboard in the dark anymore. There's other owners affected, I am not the only one. Now you can imagine what the hassle is. I am on a 1 year assignment in Europe. I bought the phone off ebay while in Canada, from an American company, phonesource-usa or something BUT the phone came from Hong Kong. Nokia HK said they don't have it in their database, it doesn't exist in the USA by it's IMEI either so you can imagine the hassle and stress I am going through. Let alone I don't have the invoice anymore ... And no shop would repair it. Otherwise the phone is great. If someone has the same issue or if someone could tell which nokia country I should contact, I would really appreciate. However I downloaded themes from www.zedge.net that the phone doesnt seem to recognize. the only option to get themes seems to be thru internet downloads. ive found this phone to do exactly what it says on the tin....no issues with it what so ever, this is running on 3. regarding nsm messenger....you can run QuickIM available as a free download at wwwdotquickimdotcom....i find it to have sufficient functionality, especiallly combined with wifi...the only 'niggle' is that the edge of the right hand character gets chopped off, other than that...fantastic!

Robert, Nokia E61 fonts can be enlarge by upgrading your phone software via the internet. Go to www.nokia.com and download the upgrade software for Nokia E61. When you finish upgrading, the fonts become bold and easier to read. So SMS and email is easier to write and read. The fonts are upgraded when you upgrade the phone software. Thanks. Kalel

I�m get a message of corrupt minisd card and when I try to format it nothing happens. I tested the card on a computer and it works fine (format, read, write) This is a 4GB minisd card. @martin I do not think that there is any builtin feature.....but I think there are some 3rd party security softwares available for nokia...which will protect accesing the inbox with "Password". Trying searcing....You may find it.

The reviewer's repeated complaints about this phone lacking a camera completely miss the point - many companies, including my employer, prohibit entry of "imaging devices" on to their premises. Their reasons or logic for so doing are not relevant - it is just a fact that I am not be allowed to take a camera phone into the building complexes where I work and visit. That's why I welcome a high-end phone without a camera. If I want to take pictures I will use one of numerous cameras lying around at home!

I moved from a Treo 650 to a Motorola A1200 to a N73, and then the E61. this phone is the best I have ever used...it does not crash, it is great for making conference calls, has a great speakerphone and loudspeaker, easier to use keyboard (than the Treo), brilliant display, is thin enough to slip into my shirt and pants pocket, great battery life, and a PDA and calendar functionality that is more flexible than the Treo's. I use it to listen to music while I travel, check my email, do lots of sms, and use the Notes function to keep track of data. It also syncs flawlessly with Outlook, especially when I am syncing Chinese characters. The only deficiency is that there's no camera but I seldom need a camera anyway (I can always download photos to it). I have zero complaints. Nokia makes one of the best phones. I am also happy with the N73, but it's screen is too small for me - the N73 is now my secondary phone, because it uses exactly the same charger and earpiece as the E61, they uses the same interface GUI and logic. I use the N73 while I travel into China where I use a local SIM card, so that I do not need to keep swapping SIM cards on the E61. Also, in case the E61 breaks down (very unlikely unless there's an accident), i can fall back onto the N73, which is also an awesome phone (and I never have any problems with the N73 neither). I have high confidence in Nokia phones.

I've had one for a day and its going back ! The only bit that works OK is making a phone call, I cant even send a text message let alone anything else and I've spent 2+ hours calling help lines and returned to the shop I got it from only for them to give up as well after another wasted hour with a request I phone there technical helpline. I had very high hopes with this phone, but I'll go back to having a small lap top with me when I need mobile e-mail etc and stick with a conventional phone. I also wonder how long the joystick will last for, it seems very flimsy in comparison with the rest of the phone which is well built.

To coffee and others. There is an E61i phone but it is in true testing inside of Nokia. This means that there are prototypes developed and they are being tested. This product may or may not be released to the general public. Even if it is released it will probably be released in Europe first since Nokia has an agreement with a certain provider to not provide Wifi in the US for a certain amount of time. BTW: I have seen the E61i. It is basically the E61 with camera and some additional software.

Graet Phone, at first you will be lost for a while, but when u get the hang of it, its so simple, fast and fun to use. i have just upgraded to software ver. 3.0633.09.04 and all the glitches i was suffering from are gone, like the call waiting and the sms beep during a call, was very faint, now its very loud :) the only thing the phone miss is a decent internet browser, and a voice recorder for more than 60 sec. for you who ask about how to copy and paste, its as u do on ur pc, Ctrl+c is copy, and Ctrl+v is paste, Ctrl+x is cut If anyone wants to ask about anything in this wonderful phone i would be very happy to help, just write me a mail, or add me to your yahoo.

E61 is a great tool. I can also use it for WiFi calls. Registered with Challenger Mobile, www.challengermobile.com, to get the WiFi service. No problem if you know how to set up the mobile for your WiFi network. If not, call Nokia support.

Great phone. Only thing is I do not get any voicemail or message notifications. I am on the Cingular network in east coast of the US. If I do a hard reset, the notifications work but aftfer a few weeks, they don't appear again. Can anyone help on this issue? I've spoken to Cingular customer support and they can't seem to help. Hi, i configured my e61 through the nokia site for both my email and gprs and internet settings, however i've had no luck. when i go into messages, i can see my email, click on it and it comes up with no messages but i've checked my email on the pc and i have new messages that are unread. i cannot also log into any site on the web, it comes up with homepage not found. i've also been given a manual internet configuration by my service providers, but nothing seem to work. please i need help as i've hard it for 2 weeks now and i can only use it to make calls but my priorities are my mail and accessing the net. please help, any suggestions will be welcome.

e61i is the best phone nokia made. its 2mp camera and video is superb, also the fm radio and its mp3 player is fantastic . i also see 10 channels of mobile tv , in its 16 million colour screen. and browsing in internet for free , with its wifi function, i know some free wifi spots in my town and go there and surfing for free . believe it , its existing and its fantastic. nokia e61 its nothing , just a phone to make phone calls . nothing else.

E61 is waaaaaay better than e62. E62 is the toned down version offered by Verizon or Sprint?? that has no 3g and no wifi. I guess they took wifi off so u must subscribe to their internet plans and using VoIP calls through wifi would sure make them lose money. E61 over E62 anyday.

To EYbe, yeah this phone is really great. It doesn't have a camera on it. The 2 MP camera with autofocus is non existent(that's SUPPOSED to be nokia E61i but it's no where near to be found) THANKS to SOMEONE who's been spamming this thread about his e61i. This e61 is a true powerhouse. It doesn't come with a camera but it makes up for it in terms of functionality. I never really like cell phone cameras(maybe the N95) because of its low resolution and i never put my phone in a case means that there's a high probability my camera's lens will be scratched. Sorry i digress, but what i wanna say is that this phone has every connectivity options u'll ever need except Upnp.

to those asking about Sync, I am using IBM Lotus Notes, nokia pc suite sync directly to Lotus Notes address book and calender but there are limited labels allowed unlike Outlook. Or E61 has a feature that sync direcly to another Nokia phone, can't recall the feature name cause mind is sent back to Nokia for repair :( For those who want to know, you can also sync to Outlook then outlook to Yahoo via another sync software u can download it from yahoo's site... it's loads of fun with this business phone but I am just too unlucky with the hardware...

I've this phone for about a month and there are some prob. i facing, first is d SD Card, I am using a 1GB card but it shows only 710MB even after formatting, still 710MB. 2nd: my screen have some white flickering problem at first a little at the bottom and slowly the whole screen then I update my firmware online but still no diff. YES THE E61i has a camera of 2mp with auto focus , unlimited video recording , fm radio , internet , wifi , mp3 , full screen video recording and playback , full screen camera viewing , and many more . i have one . i bought from ebay for usd 800 , a little time ago , i see also 10 channels of mobile tv , provided by my 3g wireless network , the colors are 16 million . if you want one , you can find few devices on ebay.

now i see mobile tv on my nokia e61i. the picture is fantastic. i have 10 tv channels on it.mobile tv is provided by my 3g network. you pay a montly fee and you choose what channels you prefer. yesterday i shoot some video clips , and transfered them to my laptop. also when i go for a walk i always listen to its fm radio, the sound is awesome with its stereo headphones.anyone has that miracle to exchange ideas ?

i have put some dvd ON MY NOKIA E61i, with the makayama software i bought from internet , its picture its awesome. you can put a 2 hour film in an 128mb mini sd card . of course i have 4gb mini sd card on it. i bought it from ebay.

Hi, can somebody tell me how to backup the sms from this phone? i want to backup sms only. currently i store all my sms in the memcard. i want to format the memcard, put the sms and contacts only, and do firmware upgrade. unlike contacts, i can't just select all the sms in memcard and copy to the phone mem. thx

the guy with e61i has absolutely right.e61i exists . i found the e61i on ebay after a lot of search. it is sold usd 750 plus usd 45 for shipping. i ask the seller and he told me that he has only two devices . i also ask him where did he find them , and he told me from bulgaria. its nokias testing devices for promotion he said. his feedback is 100% positive. it has all the information of the device in the remarks. i dont know what to do , if i can trust him . somebody help.

This is Christmas season and miracles happen. So please don't beat our E61i friend. For sure he knows Santa Klaus and all we know Santa Klaus comes from Finland where Nokia is made. The only thing I don't believe is that he paid USD 800 only because Santa Klaus don't charge for a presente. So please keep being a good boy and may be next year Santa gives you a new one (Nokia 9800 iii). By the way... I've got a E61 (yes the ordinary one, not the E61i) and the only comment I made is: the phone is really great and all the aspects: Screen, sound, phone, e-mails, keyboard, battery life. I am on 3G network and the battery lasts for 2 days checking e-mails every hour. If I turn off 3G it works for 3-4 days (of course depending on usage). And I say it again: I am not a Nokia fan. I bought e61i today from ebay for usd 800. it has 2mp camera ,video recorder unlimited , fm visual radio , wifi , umts , full screen video recorder and playback , full internet browser , and many more. its color is aluminium metallic. the screen is 16 millions colors . is fantastic. i have put mobile tv on it and the picture is like dvd quality. the most perfect phone nokia builded. recomended for everyone.

Great phone. The screen is superb and the web browser is very usable even on the 320 x 240 screen. The phone feels very solid and well built. I have "upgraded" from the nokia 9300 and the E61 is better. There isn't really anything I can fault it on. I have a tarif with 1GB of data per month and can use the web browser as much as i want to. You can browse to any site and it displays well. The phone comes with lots of software and the whole thing is well implemented and is easy to use after an initial period of getting used to where everything is now located.

nope, it's not gonna be out for a while. Possible release date is midyear of 2007. That is one thing for sure. A friend of mine works in Nokia Asia and tell me this. What would probably be release is the prototype of E61i which will cost you more than $3000, that is for sure.

Camera is not a really important tool.And also, if I want to capture a really good scene, I still prefer to use my trusty Nikon S2.Otherwise other ppl can use their camera phones and just bluetooth to mine LOL.E61 may not be as slim as Motorola Q but it has 10 times more functionality. The only reason I'm holding out on this phone is I want Nokia TO PUT MORE RAM INTO THEIR PHONES!I heard from all S60 3rd edition users that Multitasking is horrendous and I hope Nokia E61i has more RAM which I highly doubt

E-61.. I forgot, size.. yes it is a little wider than the average little phone, but not to big, fits the hand well, enough room for full keypad. but very thin, fits in a shirt pocket, denim chest pocket, even pants pocket from or rear, but because it is thin fits well, thiner and more pocketable than my 6233.

I am so happy with my E-61 I had to write. I am from US and work in Iraq,and travel all over. this phone is the end of a long trail of "almost right" where to start? This phone is not everything to every one, no camera? they dont come close to my canon(size of pack of smokes) which is 6 meg. Radio? The MP3 works just fine either with speakers or headphones(along with 3.5 adapter)especially the noise cancel type while flying, it does txt, email. blackberry, you can write letters, docs, view pdf's. Play games while stuck traveling, it has wi-fi for the air ports, but with unlimeted int BB email for 19 USD. All the email functions fine on gprs, which is avail in most of the world. set up was easy for everything, it had to be, there is no service centers in Iraq. The key pad is a delight compared to multi press on number keys.The screen is pure joy, clear, bright, and big enough to see w/wo glasses. Everything syncs with outlook so there is alway a copy of everything in at least 2 places..for me this is important. It even will sync with another Nokia cell phone! no more copying numbers and dates! Battery last me about 3-4 days with moderate use, It is fully customizable to make it easier for each persons needs. It may not do everything, but what it does, it does very well, and is quite enough for my needs. GREAT Device (phone)..oh yes.. the phone reception is the best I have had, and here it is hard to get reception.(it is a phone after all)

Davo: I believe there is an FM stereo headset for this phone. Just check the Nokia website under accessories for E61. Messy: There's the Birdstep software that comes w your 64MB miniSD card that does that but it's only a trial version. Qais: Can you be more specific about the problems you were having w your E61?

hi strange, you can fast forward the movie while playing by pushing the joystick up (very siple) noe for transferring the messages to another phone, you have first to move them to the memory card and then put it into the new phone.... i hope that this would make everything clearer. now i have a question: sometimes when i am running a program on my phone specially games i find this message :(a handled exception close? ) and then the program closes immediately, can any one tell me why?

Anton: Not sure if this was answered yet or not... Yes, the e61 syncs fine with Mac OSX, using isync, provided you have 10.4 (i'm running 10.4.8) or higher. There is a free plugin and a plist hack that you have to do, which sounds complicated but it took me about 12 minutes and I'm no programmer. Info here: After that it works like a dream. One click of a button and it wirelessly syncs with my iCal and Address Book in seconds. I'm running OS 10.4.8 on my mac (I would update your mac OS as much as possible before setting up the sync stuff, as maybe the new OS installs negate it? Not sure) and I had none of the troubles occasionally mentioned by people (time lag, etc.).

Tassie, you should thank castillo for the tip I downloaded a program called WLAN wizard from the Nokia Europe site. It's for the N80 but works with the E61. Since, using it, I've had no problems conn w my neighbors WiFi again!! :) I believe the E61's processor is an ARM 206 MHz.

Just wondering whatis the maximum number of contacts this phoine can hold. I had a test unit today, and once it had 4500 contacts in it it said it ran out of memeory eventhough memory was far from full. It would scroll through contacts, but would not search them. To X-man Thanks for the info. Auto was all ready off. Nokia China say the model is not sold in China, so no info but try Hong Kong Nokia. I haven't been able to find an email address for Nokia Hong Kong. Their web site doesn't appear to have one. One company, I'd have thought they would have been able to search their own intranet and work it out for me. Guess service only goes so far. It will make me think about buying another Nokia (I am on my sixth) Thanks again for the help.

Hi, I suppose if you write only S, it is normal that you get all the S but if you narrow the search by putting SAM, it is sure that you will get SAM unless there are more than 1 Sam. Why not try this.

Help, I have a very simple problem but cant seem to solve it. When I want to go to a contact say Sam I press contacts and the S I get all the "S" before I get the people who start with S. Is there any setting that will let me go to the people starting with S only and not search through unecessary names. To Tassie: Try turning off Auto Bookmarking. And I suggest getting a file explorer, to clean out the cookies, cache, temp and etc.. Yes a 2MP is nice as well as other multimedia functions. But you have to understand that there are reasons why Nokia disabled these. Until a work around, we should just enjoy this nice device.

In regards to : "No Gateway Reply" To make it more clear, this message only happens if the phone does not receive a proper login window that the server needs for you to access the internet. This usually happens with private hotspots, such as T-Mobile, College grounds, etc.. Now If you try to connect a laptop to a T-Mobile HotSpot, you will get this log in screen, to input your account, and verify you have a subscription with the service. But in the Nokia's browser, it doesnt interact with that window, so this can be the reason why. Do you guys get it? WINDOWS OS: No, it cannot be done. Windows phones are specifically made to have compatible hardwares, so as Symbian phones, but they do not share the same compatibility. Now if you were able to somehow swap the Windows approved hardware to a Nokia E61, and run your own custom BIOS..etc..OS.. then you might be able to make it work. So if you are not able to access that kind of technology, then you cant change it. To restore Master Key Lock, without formatting your phone. Try this Might or might not work. All E-Mail servers should work except those who restricts POP forwarding, just make sure you have your settings. WIFI on Windows vs. Symbian As far as I can compare, all I have to say is, its just how you use your phones. My Nokia E61 picks up WLAN signals perfect. So does my Windows phones. My Nokia justs lasts longer on wifi than the Windows. Any other questions, just post them up. Hopefully my answers get through to you guys and make sense.

To Tassie, rx, and any other concerned E61 owner: I just want to know a few things. Why is it difficult for this phone to access a WiFi hot spot without getting the "NO Gateway Reply" or "WLAN not found" message. I don't have a laptop but from what I understand it seems easier to access these WiFi hotspots using one. It's nice to carry this phone instead of a laptop but I guess there are limitation to the phone. Also, does anyone know if Windows OS smartphones have less WiFi issues than symbian based? To srk: You need a gmail account or something like it to use the email function for this phone. But you can access hotmail through the web with this phone. To castillo: True, torrents are sometimes slow. I was just planning to use WiFi to grab songs on the go. It would take forever to d/l movies on this phone!!!

to madeline, the keypad is not hard to type. i don't know for those with big fingers. top of the buttons are coated with some kind of rubber, not slippery. the back of the casing is made of magnesium allow, sturdy. averall casing built is great. i bought a krusell (www.kursell.se) case, type classic, red label. it's the only case that protects the keypad that i can find. but with the case, it's rather difficult to type. no choice :(

to Tassie, here's my experience: if the wifi is not password protected, i have no problem connecting to it using dhcp. if the wifi is password protected, i can't use dhcp, must use static ip.

Hi guys Love my E61 except for the fact that I cannot access the Web. With all the advances in technology, I would have thought Nokia would have this right (or at least be able to put out options for dealing with the issue. Yes, I have the "No Gateway Reply" error. I have searched the web over the last couple of days and most of what I found says reconfigure the router. Fine, if you have access to the router!!! I want to access public Wifi spots as I am on the road almost everyday. I have set up access points and bookmarks for several public sites, but still get the same error message. I believe that it must be the phone that is the problem then I hope someone can help me. I was considering recommending this unit for our company (some 100 units) as we are looking for something like this, but this problem and the lack Nokia expertise to help fix it is scaring me away. X-Man: Thats a nice application to get more than just MP3's. I use Demonoid.com, and usually theres lots of movies there which I download about 3-4 times a week. But the only disadvantage of using a torrent client, is the fact that someone has to upload/share the file. If you really want just MP3's, just go to a site that has direct server access to those files, faster downloads and faster response. But if you are patient, then the torrent client is a wonderful application. I must also say this is where Unlimited Data Plans comes in handy.

About downloading songs: There's a torrent software called Symtorrent out there now go find it. I have yet to test it out since my neighbor have locked the WiFi access! :(

Brian: The HS-23 is a pop port headset, and does not need any adaptor. Though the HS-20 is a 3.5mm headset; it does need an adaptor. Now since you do own the HS-20 then you know what Im talking about, when I say that, headset sucks. I recommend the AD-41, like I said, but if you really cant find it then the AD-46 is fine. But there arent any sites that can let you download almost any song to your phone without paying for it. Try 15cents a song! So what I do is I go to Altavista.com on my phone, and then search the song through MP3/Audio search and download away. I was able to download a 9MB song in less than 12 secs. So its pretty fast.

if im correct, it means you have an unsent text message trying to be sent in the "outbox", try to delete the messages and see what happenes. if not then just try to Master rest or clear.. hopefully ive been help ful

Currently at the moment Skype is not out yet for Symbian, but keep a look out by the end of this year. Although there are other substitute to Skype, theres always VOIPBuster....etc as long as the SIP works, and your input the settings correct.

But make sure you have your own pair of high quality headset or something close to it, because the stock (HS-20) that the adaptor comes with is very weak. What do you mean its not recent catalogue?

X-man: I am basing my answers to you from my experience and facts related to this phone. 1.) I do get that "No Gateway Reply" when I connect to open foriegn connections, and the problem is , that connection is supposed to open a "Log In" on the browser (i.e. T-Mobile Hotspot @ Starbucks) this is the same thing as a WEP only, you connect everytime you log on. But the log in screen doesnt appear on the Nokia E61, making it impossible to get connection, with that, sometimes I find, that my Nokia E61 restarts when connecting to these connections, but only on T-mobile Hotspots. And for the video, just put it this way. The phone was made to support MPEG-4, and has RealPlayer installed, so make use of it. Instead of buying a 3rd party application to make videos work, try to see if the embedded application works first. For me Super Video works excellent, I now have 4 Movies and 150 songs on my 2GB MiniSD, and still has 300MB left. And GMail works flawlessly, you just need to set up the POP settings and the SMTP.

Hey castillo_corp Thanks for the tip but I have been using the conn mgr to find the wifi hotspot but sometimes i find an open wifi that is strong and still can't connect. I get the "web: no gateway reply" usually. Do you have this problem as well? Also, for the video I find that using the smartmovie converter w divx codec, you get very smooth video and good sound compared to super but that would use much more memory. so that's the trade off i guess. I believe you need a gmail account to setup the email for this phone. Thanks for the feedback guys!!! :)

To Saad and others: For Super Video Converter use: iPod + MPEG4 + AAC + 44100khz 128kpbs @ 15fps 192kpbs this makes watchable low file movie. Use" iPod + MPEG4 + AAC + 44100khz 128kpbs @ 25fps 336kpbs this makes excellent big file movie. Make sure you click "Use Direct Show", and leave the "High Quality" option checked. Heres the link : To X-man: After the HotSpot trial, just use the regular Search For WLAN, and you should be ok. To azzian: Just try to clean your temp, and unsused data, using a file explorer. Yahoo does not support forwarding e-mails or POP3, so yahoo cannot work, unless your paying for it.

Hey guys, i don't have a WM phone to compare the E61(which i'm using to type this post) but i seem to have trouble getting wifi when it is avail hotspot sometimes. i've used the birdstep software that comes with the phone but it is only a trial. It seems to work ok but that defaets the purpose of free WiFi. Anyone in the same situation as myself?

Update: Brian The AD-46 has volume functions but does not have Music buttons. I suggest the AD-41

Brian I believe the AD-46 will work and produce excellent sound, but last time I checked the AD-46 doesnt have volume support*, I on the other hand use the AD-41, which has music functions and the volume control. By default, the Nokia E61 will reset the preset to "default" settings when listening to music, but if you have any of the adaptors, it will stay to the preset that you chose. I also use iPod like headphones, that has built in Subwoofers to balance out the sound, and so far, it is okay. And no the volume does not drop, but although I find the output much better after a hard reset and/or taking the adaptor in and out. Kannan I have an HTC 8125 by Cingular, and an i-Mate JasJar, the main differences are they are touchscreens. When I compare my windows phone to my E61, I notice a great difference on how the windows phone renders the page, it is awful, with the Nokia, it views much better. Now for the WiFi, the only thing that I seemed to see was that Nokia E61 has more battery juice after 2hrs of using the net. The windows phones dies out quick. And no, it IS very responsive, and very stable. Trust me, the windows phones take more time into processing applications and slower. Although I noticed that playing video on the windows phone has less lags between switching from regular screen to fullscreen.

Did anybody notice horizontal lines on the display? Sometimes i notice them and don't know if this is normal or not. They are tiny, you have to look carefully to see them. I think they are caused by mini SD card slot, but am not sure. And yesterday I noticed a thicker horizontal discoloration of the screen, but only with Nokia original theme.

To Toni: To Change how many texts you store go to Messages > Options > Other > and then change the number of saved messages to the number you desire. For the call log thing, I'm not too sure...I havent really needed it so I havent played around with it much. For the third party software thing, Im sill looking myself. Not too much luck so far though... Now for the phone in general: This is quite possibly the best phone I have ever had. It does everything I need and then some. The WiFi is such a great feature so I dont always have to used EDGE data. The browser itself is better than the one I have on my iPaq. For me, the battery life is amazing! I'm on WiFi all day long with this phone and I use the MP3 player at times too and by the end of the day I've only lost maybe two bars of battery life. The lack of a camera doesnt really bug me. Unless you're getting a real camera, cameras on phones are really quite pointless. I have a W810i for that when I need it. The E61 is a great tool for my everyday uses as a student. I would suggest this phone over any Blackberry or moblie PDA device. The lack of software available may be an issue now, but I think 3rd parties will get on it here pretty soon, especially since the E62 is on Cingular now. The demand is out there.

Hey guys, I've had my phone for about 2 weeks now. It has been a joy to own so far with a few set backs... I noticed that the battery life is ok, seems to go down to 2 bars fairly quick..must be my occasional WiFi usage?? Not sure what happened but I installed a .jar file that wasn't compatible with the phone and it kept going to the "installing" screen when i turned it on so I ended up formatting the card and resetting my phone. Anyone know other way to remedy this if it happens again? Disconnecting/Connecting to an Ad hoc router will make the phone restart and it doesn't like wifi connections less than 54kbps. I know that MS and Nokia are in the talking about some licensing agreement, hope that steaming asx/asf will be possible on this phone in the near future.

This phone is indeed cheap for a Wifi and 3G capabilities. This phone can use Skype* (I believe it still in a process to be finally released for symbian) though there are other VOIP providers compatible with this phone, like VOIPDiscount. And yes Yahoo Messenger works with this. There are other IM clients that will work wih Yahoo such as Agile Messenger, IM+...search for compatible clients.

This phone can in fact, work with a 2GB MiniSD Card. I am on though, some argues it can support the new 4GB MiniSD's, I still have to look for that myself. The ZipManager should work just fine, but notice when you open it, it doesnt open an application form, just like windows bu it opens to your documents and from there your choose the zip file.

Okay to ALL E61 users or whoever wants to get one: Heres the performance breakdown. The E61 uses the same battery as the Nokia 7710 and the Nokia 770. Pretty powerful and slim. On a fully charged battery (meaning it was charged while the phone was turned off) WiFi can last me half a day. Music can last me about 4 days. Talking (GSM) can lasts me, on couting, 8hrs and 47mins. Music and WiFi together lasts me less than 5hrs Internet Telephone (SIP) can last me 4hrs (the back gets hot) Bluetooth lasts me 2-3 days. Wifi and bluetooth, a full day. Music and Bluetooth, 13hrs. Music, Bluetooth, and Wifi, is 6hrs. On stand by, nothing happening, lasts me about 5-6days, without charging. Ands as you can see this is a great device, lots and lots of power, but all these are nothing because of the limited RAM, that was embedded. The RAM only gets rounded up to 20MB.

The E61 has a GPS software, needs a GPS reciever. FM Radio solution, buy a 2GB MiniSD, 4GB is available too. No need for High Speed Circuit Switch, this has 3G. Touchscreen, no need really, because you have a cursor/joystick to lead the way, what difference does it make? Just more expensive?

Well, I'd highly recommend you to stay with your N91 (as NOW I'm looking one for me too) unless you are in a big need of BlackBerry then move on to E61 other wise both are same even you are getting good features in a small and handy box. Today I've returned my back to Vodafone as it was under 14 day warranty coz I'm leaving the country for a while and next time might go to N91 (I really don't need this beauty too bcoz I already own an iPod nano + Canon EOS 350D and I wont be using non of these features of this beast)

well go to Settings ---> Connections and here New Access Point and you can sub select Create New with Default Settings or with Existing Settings then just give the Access Point name and Authentication Type these must be the same as you have already confiured on your WLAN Router/Adapter...mostly we use WEP authentication on WLAN equiepment with Sahred key so be careful what you use on YOUR WLAN Router and its ALL done

N-E61 has a poor calculator. It wont calculate anything above 7digits result. Next, Document app always close by itself when I move the pointer. Next, Sheet app is the worst app i ever had. To fill in the value to the field, you must go to option and select then click something else. Think twice before you plan to purchase this product or you will regret.

Oh and another thing, Cingular (in the US) is now offering the E62 for about $149 but they forced Nokia to remove the wi-fi option so you HAVE to get a Cingular data plan at about $30/month - $80/month for international! Bastards.

Everyone keeps knocking the fact that this does not have a camera? Don't you realize that most any device of this caliber does not have a camera, each Blackberry model for one.... I have had a Sony Ericsson S700i for 2 years (a world record for me since I used to change phones every 3 months or so) and I use the camera all the time. But for what? Taking pictures of the occassional product on a store shelf to research later, my friends bumming at work, my brother walking through the drive-thru at McDonalds while we were quite high. Cameras are fun but then if total fun is what you want, you should not be looking at this phone anyway. My E61 should be coming in the mail tomorrow and I can't wait. For this price to have wi-fi connectivity, email, memo, contact management, etc. It's going to be a fun productive tool for me. I'd gladly give up my camera for all the positives the E61 has. Well it vary from person to person if you are running a business in High St stock then you might need a phone with camera to take pictures of what stock you have put out side and what you left in stock BUT for top level managment where head hunters have no need to take pictures and send funny MMS to other team members so E61 is really worth while for them...

Ok, it's a business phone... lot's of connectivity, for sure and simply great in what comes to stable operation... but who says that professional segment has no need for a camera? What about taking fast pictures of a product to investigate later? What about MMS? I have a phone, latest tech and I can�t send an MMS with a photo taken by the E61? I have a Nokia 7610 and a HTC Tornado to handle all the mobility and professional contacts and emails that I need. I went today to buy an E61... left it the store.. no camera, no way of taking fast pictures of products or info that you want take a look at later... So, I stick to my other two phones, which are capable of taking photos, and I'll keep sending flowcharts by MMS and other infos to my work team withouht having to buy the E61... can't do that on one... In my opinion, the lack of a camera is a big downside...

well guyz the net speed depends on your wireless link actually not on processor really, so mine is awesome and I'm really pleased with the page downloading speed. This is a must have tool. I'm planning to upgrade my firmware but have to wait till I get my laptop from HP after keyboard repair. Well I've used it more then 24 hrs with Golf 2 (pre installed game) 3/4 hrs of WiFi and 30 minuts for music but still have 2 lower bars left. I never made any calls, Maybe by the end of today afternoon I need to charge it. Setting up for WiFi wasn't a big deal if you know some of jargon buster (for me it wasn't a big deal as I done Cisco Wireless installations) but I still have problems connecting my Gmail account with E61 and hope to fix it when I get free time by tonight. I see rx..then no worries. It happened to me when I installed some software on my MMC. The phone wouldn't boot up but only if I removed the MMC. Had to reformat phone and MMC on my N70 to fix it. I'm still not sure to this day why this happened.

However even then I could not read PDF files. Thanks iQ7 for the future insight! Hey rx, do you have alot of programs installed on the phone's internal memory? I know if you use up the internal memory it will do the "White screen of Death"(WSOD). So make sure you install everything to the memory card instead.

last night my E61 scared the hell outta me. after charging the battery, i browsed to Connect. menu. and it just hanged there. no key worked, including power off key. then i took out the battery while the phone was on. put the battery in again. and swithed on. the phone displayed the white screen with nokia logo for quite some time, then the nokia logo was gone, all left was white screen. tried another 1-2 times by taking out the battery, and at last it worked again! phew. thought it was gone. heard a story about a friend's N70 motherboard gone not long after the purchase. wondered about the nokia phone quality. but luckily, my E61 is still alive and kickin' now, and i still like my E61:)

Corrected ---> Well E61 should work on any US GSM/3G enabled network coz it is from GSM850 to GSM1900 + UMTS while E62 is NOT UMTS (3G) so it can be used in Europe but NOT for all networks

for GPS you will need a GPS bluetooth receiver and the phone has the built in software to operate the GPS unit. for the language pack.....you will need to manually update the firmware which will void the warranty. best bet it to get an Asian model with the Chinese keypad.

I looked at this piece of equipment & liked it. A BB connectivity & all that jazz sounds damn good for a business user like me. The absence of a camera is not going to be missed by me at all. On the contrary, the last 10 months that I've used the 9500 for, I havent used the cam for more than 3-4 times. Its such a waste. This is a pure business phone & I think it has adequate features. E62 is not a replacement for E61. E62 lacks WiFi and 3G...... E62 is carrier specific for Cingular and Rogers so that they can charge you for data with the lack of WiFi.

Dear unknown, wifi means "Wireless Fidelity" and is simply the ability to use Wireless Lan (WLAN) with the IEEE-802.11 protocols. go online everywhere? does it cost? depends on your infrastructure at home or the access to a hot spot. your question suggests you do not have wlan at home (for example a high speed internet access in combination with a wlan router). if you do have, you can use your phone the same way as your pc and connect to the internet using your wireless router. go out, find a hot spot which allows access and surf the net. with wifi you do NOT USE GPRS or similar data transfer services from your provider (T-Mob etc).

i just brought this e61 phone and it has wifi. wifi? does it means you can catch the internet any where? does it cost to go online if i do catch it please help me i'm clueless

this is really great phone you can download sws and messenger very easily available in the market. for messengers like msn ,yahoo,gmail go to www.agilemobile.com for more sws search with s60 v3 sws thanks please let me know if you have anything else i hope i can help you guys
