Your N8 needs to be hacked, You'll have to see if you can still find the instructions and necessary files somewhere on the internet, or it should have a custom ROM like Delight, which comes as already hacked. The other option that might or might not work is to try and change the date on your phone to some earlier year (like 2010) and see if you can install the app.

There are two unofficial stores that are working. Applist and Sistore (I think no longer aviable). There are lots of apps. If you need something specific write here and maybe some of us coud help you. Unfortunately Whatsapp stopped ther services for Symbian phones more than a year ago, and there are no updated web browsers, so don't expect a good Web browsing experience. I also bought another n8 few weeks ago. It's my 4th Nokia n8 :)

I know its outdated but i recently had my new Nokia N8-00. Im not sure if it is just refurbished type or really original old stack last piece. I was so sad to realize that the Ovi Store and most of the Symbian Apps are no longer working... can anyone help me if there is still posibilty to activate the Ovi Store and other symbian apps or is there any downloadable apps in the internet... im not expecting a lot of apps like what Android have but at least the basic apps like torch, web browser, youtube, whatsapp

Probably not. Skype surprisingly worked again a few years ago, but I'm not sure about today. WhatsApp discontinued support for Symbian a long time ago. Messenger was never supported, although you could use Opera Mini (very old version) to open the mobile version of Facebook and deal with your messages there. Also Nokia's app store no longer exists so you'd have to rely on a few others maintained by fans (AppList for example).

I can not create exchange accounts. Maybe because of the software (Delight 1.7) but since I installed it I can only use "normal" accounts using mailbox creator. Every time I want to create an exchange account I get an error message

I have N8 and know for sure that it doesn't have NFC feature no matter what OS version - Belle refresh or Delight CFW. I think it's because of it's metal body, NFC signal can't go through. My 808 has it and the NFC chip is on the back plastic cover attached.

I just upgraded my silver N8 to Delight CFW v6.6 and it's so nice. It's the most beautiful phone ever!

That is the problem with the whole phone industry, it all looks the same. Years ago it was easy to seperate 5 phones from 5 different brands from one another, now if you do the same you won't guess which one is which until you look at the branding, usually on the back only. This Nokia N8 looks completely different than its competitor at that time, the Galaxy S. The same for the HTC and LG competitors. But now, all looks the same… pretty boring.

That can only happen if Damian Dinning joins back Nokia. He was the man behind most best camera phones in Nokia. Even I wish if Nokia makes phones like how they did before. Each and every phone they produced was so unique and different. And we also felt it when we got it onour hands. But nowadays almost all phones look the same and nothing unique and different except few megapixels, storage capacity and other specs here and there

I got one a week ago from eBay....for approx. EUR 10 including P&P....it had the SIM socket damaged....broken pins...but otherwise like new! Managed to fix the broken pins and now it works perfectly!..:) Using Opera for browsing/Gmail and Exchange mail for office mail....perfect! And a lot of apps on SIStore and AppList.....

I have used N-8 for 3 years in 2011-13. The camera and quality of pictures were excellent. Later I've used many smart phones (Nokia Lumias, Galaxy S-6 & S-8, iphone-7 etc) till today, but couldn't get such a superb camera. Still waiting for camera like N8 on smart phone.

No, it hasn't. NFC depends on hardware and the nokia n8 doesn't have this. I also have a n8 and I can't remember seing that option. Maybe because I iuse a CFW. But no. No NFC for the n8 :)

I don't remember that error, might be that it requires downloading something additional from the internet that is no longer available. Who knows... It's been a while since I turned my N8 on, though it's still around.

I changed the date to 2012 and then the app started to install. But after a few seconds it stops installing and showing a message something like “you can tap this icon to resume the installation later”. But when I do so, it eventually does not react anymore or it says download failed.

Is your N8 hacked? If not, maybe that's the reason. Alternatively you could try switching the date on your phone to an earlier year (I remember this method used to help for some installations). As for the screensaver, I was using something called Big Digital Clock Screensaver (Symbian Anna Screensaver) - is this what you've been looking for?

When the N8 launched it had a very nice looking analogue clock for the glance screen, but in the update to Nokia Belle it is gone. Is there a possibly to get that clock style back? One can only choose between a digital one and a rather boring analogue one. Sadly.

You can update your phone to Anna or to Belle (not both). But I recommend to install (update to...) a CFW (custom firmware). There are lots you can try. For example, MAGNUS or DELIGHT. Incorrect. I was a huge Nokia large-sensor fanboy, plus I'm a photographer for a living. While the N8 was very good, it has now been surpassed by the latest generation of phones. This also goes for the 808. Forget the 1020- it was terrible and only offered RAW and a faster lens compared to the 808. The problem with all the Nokias from above is that the lenses were poorly coated, so flare was horrendous. Now I'm on an HTC U11, also used a U12+ extensively and there are no comparisons. The Nokias have been surpassed. I prove this because I use my phone alongside my SLRs and have publications with the HTC. let's also not forget that Panasonic with the 1" sensor I have nostalgia- loved the size, the developed Belle OS, the battery life, but the nostalgia only goes so far.

In January 2018 I bought an Android Phone with 6GB RAM but it's still lag once in a while, and I can't understand it why. Whereas my Good Old Symbian N8 could surf the net, navigate, and browsing with 256MB RAM, amazing !

I love this phone. I recently took my N8 out of the drawer and used for a while, still perfectly suited for shooting amazing quality pictures. I do miss the old on screen clock faces of the glance screen that were used before the Belle upgrade.

Buy this phone if you need it for collection. Do not buy it for daily use, cause it does not cut it. Internet has changed, htmls change, everything needs more power to funktion. This device is a legend, a device i loved. People here know that. Well, at least who knows me. But, for this small peace of great ingeniering is over. Still, camera is better then some devices still sold with 300 euros😃. I would tell you to buy then new nokia devices, they are good, and quallity is still theeir. Agree, pictures taken with the N8 are of excellent quality. It was its time far ahead back in the day when this phone was released. When I use my N8 for taking pictures I am still amazed by the quality.

Personally I'd go with a different phone. I got a HTC HD2 this month for £13 on eBay. It has a bigger screen, wifi, a 5MP camera with dual flash and a removable battery. The marketplace don't work, nor does it on the Nokia, but at least with the HTC, there are still a couple of websites that let you download apps, as .cab files.

It's still a great phone, and there are two alternative app stores for it made and maintained by fans, but the biggest downside is the internet - the only browser that still works is an old version of Opera Mini. The same for messengers.

I still remember my Nokia N8. Back then, it used to be my daily driver. The build quality, was like a tank. I had dropped it so many times accidently and yet it survived without any wounds on the body. The sound quality through the loudspeaker was just awesome, so much so, that I still miss it to this day because I haven't found the same kind of sound clarity in any other phone. The camera was its ace feature with rare features like mechanical shutter, Xenon Flash, dedicated two-step shutter key, large sensor size which are near about extinct in smartphones these days. The low-light shots with the Xenon flash were amazing and I still got them. They still look much, much better than low-light shots taken with LED Flash fired. The last major OS update (Symbian Belle) was pretty cool, stable and user friendly. The OS was simple yet very interesting. Unfortunately, the combination of lack of applications and the lack of further development killed it. What I really liked about the user interface was that, it had a completely black theme preinstalled, which was pretty good on that gorgeous AMOLED display. The Nokia N8 holds the legacy of Nokia and shows the glorious past of the king. I consider the Nokia 808 PureView to be the successor of the Nokia N8 and it was the last glory of the king. It's a fact, Nokia was ahead at that time in terms of cameras and many other technological aspects. Unfortunately, business is all about choices. You either make a right choice or a wrong one, that is what decides the fate of a company. Nokia went down and we all saw it. Now that Nokia has already attempted a comeback with a choice they should've already made before going down, I don't see them as serious as it requires for a comeback. I sincerely hope for a Nokia N8 reincarnation..

True , I have taken hundreds of photos and videos which are clear. The camera is exceptionally good and has zenon flash. Once a while I use it for its camera . Even videos taken from inside a car with the windscreen closed too is good. Carl Zeiss Tessar Lens are Good. The 12 MP shots are very clear comparing with many current day smartphones.

That Microsoft service centre was 25 Km South west from my place. 22 Km (40 minutes) travel by inter city bus. Rest 3 Km (15 minutes) by town bus (intra city).

Believe or not, it's working again!!! I tried different chargers and it wouldn't react. Then I tried the Samsung's USB cable with the old charger, the charging light started blinking, then the phone beeped and started charging. It was completely empty, at 0 percent. Anyway, that's a cheap repair - around 8 Euro. I'm in the EU in a small city and we don't have Microsoft service centres or Nokia Care, if I took it to a repair shop in the next, bigger city, they would charge me 2-3 times more - and that's if they could repair it or get the spare parts.

Take it to Microsoft. Mine also didn't turn on after switching off. On / off switch got failed. I got it replaced at a Microsoft service centre in Tamilnadu, India for 600 Indian Rupees. Itnis functioning normally now.

All of them are great phones. Right now I'm only using the Galaxy S5 as my N8 won't charge or turn on any more. Maybe I should order another battery. I had problems with charging even before, but I'm not sure if it was the battery or the charger connector or both.

The reality is Nokia N8 is the best hardware till date. No other company made such kind of hardware till date. Neither Iphone nor Android supported phone made by any company do have such feature. American don't want to see anybody better than them , so microsoft bought it and than destroyed Nokia. Can any company in this civilized world provide android or anyother software to this phone. Do they hv similar feature phone. No certainly not. This was bad luck of symbian lovers. I am challenging Android try to make any similar kind of hardware phone n try to provide software for that. Update : W.e.f June 30,2017 WhatsApp will be defunct on this phone as the company is withdrawing support for Symbian S60 Platform(which includes the Symbian Belle on which the N8 is presently running) while The support for Nokia S40 devices is till December 31, 2018. But nonetheless, Let's keep this good thread alive by great memories. Good times.

Oh, my beloved phone. Well, whatsapp is a server based app. It is pretty much nothing you can do about the fact that symbian was killed a loooong time ago. I am tough still surprised people uses it. Not because is not great. I used symbian more then 10 years, just cause today, it makes no sense anymore. They pretty much made sure of the fact that symbian is dead. So, people, their are pretty good phones for a cheap price, try them, windows and android can be used for a really small price. See what you like and buy better devices after deciding. Let your n8 be great. Mine is fully working, original battery, 1 day hilding after 5 years of use. And will be their when i will be 60. Cause is a jewelry. But well move on. Sadly, OVI store is dead long ago, so is the original Nokia who made it. You can try for apps, and as for refreshing software, maybe custom firmware but it's complicated to do.

W.e.f June 30, 2017 WhatsApp will withdraw Symbian support. You have to shift to Android or iOS no choice and nothing whatsover plan on restoring whatsapp.

My battery was giving up, had to charge it 2-3 times a day, and when I opened the phone I saw that it started swelling. So, I ordered a new one from eBay and it arrived last week. It's probably not original Nokia, but to my surprise I still have around 50% of battery left before going to bed. it should work in flashing it in dead usb mode. The software has clashed. Plug your fone to a charge though you will not see the battery signal or any sign of charging but it will be charged believe me. Keep the fone plug for at least 1hr 30mins. Now connect the fone to your PC and open phoenix and select (no connection) as this leads to dead usb mode. Now flash it with the neccessary firmware. All the best.

still using since oct 2012. once decided to sell it on olx. i met the seller and he says ok 3000 is enough. than i smiled a little take a picture of his face in the dark with xenon flash and walk out from there. realized later that this was a stupid discision. no plan for replace my NOKIA N8 even for a iphone. using till today without any problem. SALUTE TO THE MAKERS OF N8 for making such a legend phone.

Liked it for a year after purchase but suddenly realised that it display has problems with color apeared brown spots and system was laggy and were lack of apps. Only thing that good is camera nothing more its laggy keyboard is clumsy app crashes no new apps by that time really i would better buy iphone 4 wich was at least faster in interaction and same price. By 2017 no longer available nokia services at all so all purchases are gone. At all it helped me once when my phone had problems with modem to communicate but now it has broken sim contacts and no idea when to fix it

No, I am not facing the issue on Intex Aqua Fish that you are having. Did you try factory reset? My software version is 2.0.4 Fiskarsinjoki. In 2.0.2 Aurajoki update, I wasn't able to use data on Jio 4G network but after update to Fiskarsinjoki data works fine in Jio 4G. Post your issue on together.jolla.com site, maybe somebody would be able to figure out the issue you're facing. Also note, that Intex Aqua Fish is a rebranded Jolla C so search for Jolla C in GSMArena, that is the right forum.

I had two Nokia N8 for 2 years. First one was a Dark Grey variant, its touchscreen broke and after replacing it, the touchscreen started to behave weirdly only if using Internet. Sold it. Bought a Nokia N8 Bronze Edition, was working fine but had to sell it because of the internet experience. Otherwise solid phone. Superb build quality, feels like it is built like a tank and good to hold especially due to the cold anodized aluminum. Sound quality was like amplifier, loud and crystal clear. Display, being AMOLED was vibrant and had great contrast, simply beautiful to look at. Camera was really, really great. It had mechanical shutter, huge sensor, Xenon flash at that time it was launched. So it was ahead of its time. Still the camera quality is really good and better than cheap budget droids. OS was Symbian Belle, the last official update for Nokia N8. It had themes support before Android got it. I really cherished the default black theme, was perfect for the AMOLED display. Symbian was smooth, easy to use and very resource efficient OS, despite having very low specs, it was able to run almost everything smoothly and didn't drain the battery at the rate Androids do. Nokia N8 had a HDMI port and FM transmitter feature, these things aren't found in smartphones these days. I could play songs on my N8 while calling, so the other person on the call can listen to the songs, haven't found this feature in any of the Android phones. Nokia was synonymous with quality. Nokia N8 had a non removable battery but this wasn't the case actually, you can easily replace the battery on the Nokia N8. I always prefer removable battery because lithium ion batteries over time run out of juice so if you use a phone heavily for long-term, you'll eventually notice that the battery has started to give very poor backup or swollen and this is why removable batteries are better in my opinion because they are easy to replace. Currently using a Sailfish OS device since it's made by ex Nokians. I heard Nokia is returning to the market so I hope they get their game right this time. Microsoft really screwed Nokia.

There's a few tricky parts the first time you're doing it. The screws on the sides of the phone are going into little plastic bits inside the phone which aren't attached to the phone itself, so if you unscrew the screws too much the bits fall out and it's a hassle to put them back where they should be. And it takes a minute to figure out how to unclip the plastic part holding the battery, then you just pull or shake it out. Once you know how it goes it's easy, you can replace the battery in a minute.

You should go to FILES press on F: Memory Card till it displays "Remove Memory Card" then press it to remove memory card. Replace with new Micro SD . Then go again to files press F: memory till it displays Format and format it on the phone itself. Display: Remove memory Card Details Name Set Password Format I did the above to change my MSD to 16GBSandisk Ultra Class 10. Then Removed the Micro SD from N8 and inserted to my laptop to download all the programs in my old Micro SD. Reinstalled back to N8 and no issues but very much faster images and video, songs, music. Try it out.

When I bought my N8 in 2010 , I purchased a set of tools thru E-Bay for it. You need the Spline key to remove the bottom cover before removing the battery. You can see Youtube video on Battery removal/replacement. Its easy. Better to buy High Capacity battery - I replaced it with 2830mAh Gold battery for prolonged use.

Maybe some processes are draining your battery, you should get an app like App Stop and see what's going on. Can you open the phone and see if the battery is OK? My battery has started losing charge too and when I opened the phone I saw that the battery started bloating so I got a new one. After a few years the new one started losing charge too, same thing, so I got another from eBay. But there was a problem - these batteries are so old now that mine completely discharged during storage before I bought it, and wouldn't even start charging. So I gave it to someone who used to repair phones and he did something to it, it works normally now. It's not as good as the original battery but it gets me through the day.

There is another possibility. There is an exposure compensation in camera settings. (The setting is marked: "Exposure +/-"). It is possible that you increased this setting to take night photos and forgot to reset it to zero.

Symbian can multi task 20 to 30 apps simultaneosly with only 256/500 MB RAM and 680 MHz processor with HD video... incredible...! Try eBay if you can't get an original. I bought a battery on GearBest a year ago, not genuine Nokia but good quality. It's still working OK, but it's no longer available there. I see similar ones on eBay for less than 4 dollars, and more expensive ones for 8. Also, you need a special screwdriver to open the bottom of the phone, try a hardware store near you.

Agreed. Nokia was a bit late to optimize Symbian for touchscreen and as a result they didn't catch up to Android in terms of features. I had two Nokia N8 as well, a dark grey and another a bronze edition. My thoughts are exactly the same as yours about the Nokia N8. Nokia is definitely coming back to the party with Android OS but I doubt they can hold against the Android giants without unique features. I'm currently using an Intex Aqua Fish (rebranded Jolla C) with Sailfish OS 2.0 and it feels really nice to use, after all it was developed by those excellent engineers at Nokia who worked on MeeGo & Maemo OS.

I used two Nokia N8. One Dark Grey coloured and the other one Bronze coloured. Build quality was like a tank, it felt as if you have a phone in your hand that's made to last. Design was pretty unique. Sound quality through the loudspeaker was awesome. Display was pretty cool, the blacks looked so deep and the contrast was just awesome with Nokia's CBD technology. The OS which was Symbian Belle at that time, was so optimzed and had no Google crapware. Nokia Here maps was ahead of its time. It had themes option before Android got it and the dark theme was my favorite because it wasn't hurting to the eyes and AMOLED displays don't consume much power when displaying blacks so I could save some battery. Camera was awesome. Picture quality was awesome. The Xenon flash froze moving subjects like the fan and the camera had a DSLR like shutter and a dedicated shutter key which was two step.. Even with zooming the pictures didn't look pixelated. It packed a large sensor and is one of the few phones to do so. Battery backup was good despite the phone packing just an average capacity battery. The only reason for the downfall of Nokia was that Microsoft trojan in the company and also to some extent, Symbian OS. It didn't have a great ecosystem of applications and wasn't very modern.. Today I'm using Android and I couldn't go back to Symbian as most of the apps and services for like the Nokia Store, Maps, etc has been disabled. Not that Symbian is bad but it didn't catch up to Android in terms of features and app ecosystem.

It's time to dump your symbion phone. Ucbrowser closed its all services, youtube downloader which was best supported on these phones also closed their services. Some other major services are getting closed day by day. Earlier, railway own websites were opened frequently But now they are not fully operational and operated good on other new devices. Rich text email facilities are also started facing problems. The situation for these devices are going bad to worst.

I was recently in the Fumicino airport terminal in Rome, and I was waiting for my flight. I could see around me people using their large 5" thin sliced phones for internet and so.. and I was thinking of how nice it would be to spend some time online when Ι remembered that my phone was not one of those super modern ones that are up to date with heaps of memory and powerful processors. At that moment I was using my tiny sized (in comparison) N8 that I was mainly using at that moment as an mp3 player (and probably THE best sounding mp3 player all over the airport - combined with my folding AKG Κ451 set). So I figured, what the hell.. I checked for the free wifi airport spot, and the N8 connected instantly. I went to the apps section (while listening to music) and I found that I had at some years back installed Opera mini. I opened it up and woah.. google was waiting! So I started browing stuff to spend my time. Facebook and all was snappy and more than fine (no special N8 app - all from Opera mini), my mail all checked, and spend a good time with it. No slowdowns whatsoever from the N8 that was strained in power, pumping all those internet info on the browser while delivering clarity sound that could easily replace a home system stereo driven through a proper amp. Too bad that certain apps are not longer supported (Skype, dedicated facebook client, dedicated gmail client... ). Otherwise I would have already got another one (I have two N8's) just to make sure that I will never run out on one of the greatest phones ever made. I had a flight of two hours from Germany, spent 4 hours on the Fumicino airport and another 10 hours to New York, with my N8 always being used for music as well as inflight entertainment. Needless to say that two days later the battery was just below half. Try that with an iphone! :P

I completely agree. The best thing for me was that I could listen to life stream radio or mp3 files on my car stereo without the need for any extra gadgets. The camera was superb and I also liked the design. Sadly, many apps are no longer supported on this platform and I also came across another problem, which believe was a bit of a flaw in the design: the socket for the micro usb ( charger socket) could on occassion ( I owned more than one N8) become detached from the motherboard, which meant you couldn't recharge it anymore, unless you'd manage to open it and take the battery out for recharging on an external charger.

I've only good words for Nokia N8. In fact, I owned two Nokia N8, one bronze color and a dark grey one but both of them were second hand and gave hardware problems so had to repair and sell them. True. OK, I need the volume buttons sometimes, just for call volume (well, it's set to "max" so I don't need them any more really), but apart from that I lock and unlock it without buttons, I almost never need the menu button (I use Belle Extra Buttons), and I take photos without camera button. But I start the camera when the phone is locked by pressing the camera button anyway, with the QuickCam app. Still, if I didn't want to use any buttons, it's possible. I think it's a good thing as the buttons will last longer. :-)

Tough question. Some remind me of the N8 a little, for example the Galaxy S7 has an always-on display and the icons are similar to Nokia Belle, the camera is pretty good too, but then no other phone has everything that the N8 has. My usual complaint is that basically none of the modern phones have the simplest thing called "wrist strap eyelet" (which I use and need) except a few Sony phones. And if we talk about Xenon, there's nothing out there. Without taking display size and internet-features into account, very few phones can compare to the N8.

I have both. Both have the same operating system, so, you can use the same apps. N8 over 808: -Cheaper -More resistant (but the plastic tops) -Hot swap Micro SD port -Normal SIM -Lower SAR (but aslo high) -More comforteble in hands -this is personal, but I prefer typing on n8 over 808 -If somethig breaks, you'll have many pieces -Smaller -Lighter -Mini HDMI (instead micro on 808) 808 over n8: -Awesome display and sunlight legibility (still small for portrait typing) - LED torch -Replacable battery -Call buttons (I prefer) -More than awesome voice recorder Camera: ------------ detail is better in 808 but colour is more accurate in n8, specially in video. 808's camera is faster, but no so fast 808 loseless zoom n8: better auto mode 808: you can get better results if you change values n8: better for landscape and macro 808: more powerfull flash, higher ISO and bigger sensor, so, good results in every situation CONCLUSION: I use 808, but If I have to choose... not easy!!! If you buy an 808 you won't regret If you keep your n8 try not thinking on what you're missing and think on the pros over the 808

Why not. :-) Last week I plugged a computer mouse into a USB on-the-go cable and then into the N8. A cursor appeared on the display and I could use the phone with a mouse, surfing the internet with Opera Mini it's so easy to click on links etc. We had two Androids here but it didn't work on them. Crazy phone. :-)

How time flies... I bought my N8 on this day, 3 years ago, and I'm still happy every time I take it out of my pocket. And I bought it second-hand. Few thousand photos in every possible condition, countless hours of Wi-Fi, internet, talk, messaging, Skype (while it was supported), games, customization, and sometimes I don't have to reboot it for a month. I only had to replace the original battery, but I got a replacement for 4 Euro from the internet. Other than this, it just keeps on working. Best phone I'll ever have.

That's very interesting. Could be a number of reasons, maybe different image compression for individual frames (it doesn't have to mean higher or lower quality, just a different approach), or different audio quality. It would be interesting to film exactly the same thing on all 3 phones and see what happens. Like, a completely black or completely white surface in complete silence. Even single photos taken with the N8 can be between 1 and 3 MB, depending on how much detail is in them. By default, the N8 saves them in 85% quality because they did a research and nobody could notice a difference between 85% and higher with their bare eyes. However, if you take a 1 MB photo in 85% quality and save it in 100% quality it can have 3-4 MB, the file is larger but nobody could tell them apart. So Nokia chose this setting to save on space and improve speed.

Yes. It's not the fastest camera in the world, but it's still better than most phones nowadays. In low light it's quite good if you have a steady hand (it has no optical image stabilization). Here you can see a comparison between Nokia N8, 808 PureView and Lumia 1520, Panasonic Lumix DMC-CM1, Samsung Galaxy S6, and LG G4.

Sorry to disappoint you. But you just can't get the maps back once its gone. My experience speaks to you. Nokia Maps was renamed as 'HERE' maps and then it was sold off to Audi and BMW to be exclusively used as navigation systems for their cars. So there's no nokia services technically anymore. I don't know about flashing the phone and never tried because I'm obstinate in maintaining a authentic N8 But for maps Google Maps 4.1.1 could be a viable alternative. Glad to help Nokian.

I have both delight cfm and xeon cfm on my pc but always gets some error pop ups, when trying to flash with phoenix. I will try to flash it with Jaf flashing tool. Facebook and YouTube apps are probably outdated and no longer work with those sites. I just go to FB via Opera Mini and YT via cuteTube2... What doesn't work when you're installing Maps? Do you have Belle refresh or some earlier version (Anna)? I haven't tried the software recovery tool, but once I had a glitch I reinstalled the firmware via Nokia Suite. However, Nokia Suite downloaded the firmware from Nokia's servers and I doubt it's still possible. I'm sorry that I can't be of much help here.

I've got an excellent solution for you buddy! There's an app for symbian just like iPhone's assistive touch. Download this app 'Tap2menu' for Symbian and open and do the following. X position portrait 285 Y position portrait 280 Xposition landscape 100 Yposition landscape100 size80 This is the optimum position and the orange button appears. now just like iphone's assistive touch you can open,exit menu by short press or long press it to see 'open applications' you can do all that you did with the original menu button. Hmmm. I got my phone with Belle Refresh already in it, but if I had to reinstall firmware or had another N8 to play with, I'd do it. Delight was made by some well respected people, and they removed some bloat, made it faster, added some options etc. You can read more here: I guess it won't magically turn the N8 into a supermodern phone but it's supposed to make it the best it can be.

Nothing official exists any more, but if you know how to flash a ROM there is an archive of old Nokia firmwares on a website called www.mrcrab.net and if you search for RM-596 (that's the N8 product code) you'll find all languages and versions. Alternatively, you can try to install Delight firmware (just google it) and install it following the instructions on their website, people who use it say it's better than Belle Refresh.

No it doesnt require any repair. But there are two cases here. Case 1: Now just switch off phone insert sim properly let it layoff for a while then switch on it will automatically work Case 2: Note: If you had inserted sim card and taken it out many times consecutively just because of 'insert sim' error(no offence this error will tempt you to do that) Format the phone with the 'simcard inserted in the phone' Don't backup data using PC Suite Just copy all data from phone to computer and now format the phone with simcard inserted.

Delete only the play list. Then switch off thr mobile and remove the memory card. Blow dry air with force into the memory card slot. Then wipe the memory card with a anti static cloth. Insert the memory card back into the slot. Then switch on. Now create the play list.

i am using nokia n8 few weeks ago. I am struggling to play music or to store songs in music player. I have got songs in the memory, but i would like to play them in music player so that it does play all songs consecutively. I tried to create playlist, but the option " add songs” doesnt help really. Someone can help me!

I'm a photographer and used this phone all over the world with my pro-level photogear, and usually when I couldn't bring the gear, such as to the top of mountains during sports. I have numerous pics that I've printed and sold from the cam on board. It even survived a spraying while washing my car, with water getting directly into the headphone port. Unfortunately, last year the USB port died. I bought replacements, but the operation seems to require more skill than I have with later PC boards. Thus I retired the phone and went with Samsung. Overall, I like actually having apps, but the operation and integration in Symbian can't be beat. When I shut off an app in Symbian, it turns off. Battery not wasted, multi-tasking, and so on. Have a 1020 now, which, while it has connectivity the N8 doesn't have (ie: networking Apps), its operation is painfully slow and the cam doesn't live up to the hype, though the RAW capability helps A LOT.

I would if I knew the answer. I did a little research and this is the only thing I found it looks like it will play 4 GB videos for one person, but not 2 GB videos for another person, probably a codec problem and it would take longer to convert the movie than to watch it on PC. If you tried more files and it was the same for all of them, well, I'd just give up and watch 720p videos. Sorry.

I have a second hand N8 with mint condition, and I'm so impressed with the model, materials, and built in quality of this phone. I also flashed my phone with costum firmware and it runs faster on every single things than the original stock firmware from Nokia (No hang, no lag). My N8 is still rock in 2016 onward. Not really, the default one is the best and all the others were more like skins for the default one. The only other one you might need is cuteTube for watching/downloading YouTube and Dailymotion videos.

Opera now carries Symbian apps so you can find them by going to Opera Store with Opera Mini, but it looks like a mess... I'd recommend going to AppList: They have an AppList app which you install and then use it just like Nokia Store. All the basics are there and what you will get depends on your needs.

No mate you don't know how the Belle works first you must not install all apps in C Memory It must installed in Mass memory Think just for a second why'd they give you 14.2Gb you must allocate them in such a way that 75% is stored in E: I store all my items in E: and I have about 150mb free in C: Learn to allocate memory first!

It's undoubtedly a great smartphone,with some best features,till today some of them haven't been given in any other phone,. It has 12 MP carl zeiss autofocus camera,with red eye reduction,with which it can make still any moving object. Only this phone has two charging port,and also has the feature of USB-On the go system,and only it has the extra HDMI(High defination movie integration) port, It has two title,which was given that 'Photography director' and 'Iphone 4 killer' too. The best feature it contain,and till date which hasn't been given to any other device is 'Radio transmitter',with which We can transmit any audio via Radio at any frequency.It has stainless steel back without nickel coating. But after some best stuffs it has some problem that it has only 3.5 inch screen(which is too small),and pixel density is lesser(201 ppi), It has got been fallen from my hand all about 9 times but nothing wrong happened. More or less it's a great smartphone for the photography enthusiasts.

Hi, I have deleted some files in settings-installations-already installed due to the display. This display is very often showing phone memory full :delete or move some of the files from C drive. You don't need to register it. Why would you? You can get apps from Opera store or AppList, and if you hack the phone you can install unsigned apps from other sources, so there's no need to register anything. :-)

It's much faster, but has the same apps as N8. 808 was released as a "glorious goodbye to Symbian" before Nokia went completely Windows. Honestly, having an 808 or N8 is (as I said before) like owning, driving and maintaining an old BMW. Sure, you can buy a brand new small Kia or a small Peugeot for the same money, but it's not the same feeling.

Keep in mind it's a 2010 phone with a weak processor for today's standards and it can't do many "modern smartphone" things. Nokia Store is gone and you have to get apps from alternative sources (AppList works like Nokia Store though, and it has the basics). For internet there's only Opera Mini and UC Browser, you can download files with them. Default browser is pretty much rubbish. You can read pdf, although on a 360x640 display it's more for emergency, but I have a few e-books in it. Most YouTube apps don't work any more, but Opera Mini or UC will open a YouTube video in lower quality. Some chat apps are still supported (WhatsApp, Viber, Hike, Nimbuzz, Fring). GPS works fine, even offline, and maps were updated this year (by Here people, not by Nokia). There is a video editor built-in, I didn't try it too much, but it's good for emergency. As for camera, it's still one of the best out there, and one of the few phones with real Xenon flash. The same for video, you can record HD with stereo sound. I hope this helps. For my needs it's perfect (after customizing the interface, these days I mostly only need Opera Mini and camera), and I don't feel like I'm missing much, but all people are not the same. :-)

As Aadrian said, if you can try it (camera, 3G signal, talking, wi-fi) and it works you're probably safe. I bought my N8 second hand, it was already a few years old, scratched and a screw was missing like someone was repairing it or trying to open it (I got another screw)... Two and a half years later, with almost 300 apps in it, after thousands of photos taken, it still works. I only had to replace the battery, found one on GearBest for 3 Euro or so, works fine. It's a Nokia. Right now it's 35 days since the last reboot (I have an app called "UpTime" which tells me that).

N8 is great, but 808 is more modern, faster, better camera, better display, better processor, has both Xenon and LED flash and removable battery... It's more expensive and harder to find, but if you can - go for it.

It depends on your needs. Nokia N8 has very little support now, and is missing some internet-related apps, but if you just need a good phone that will serve you well, go for it. I wouldn't change my N8 for any Android. If I knew what you need a phone for, I could give you better advice. :-)

U would find that all of your photos taken from N8 will show in MAP from where u took it . this feature is not in even i phone's also . Data back up is very easy .

N8 has served me exceptionally well since its inception in Oct 2010. I have put its camera to great use during our tours world over, with fantastic results, may it be videos or photos. I still don't want to part with it, its 'symbian' OS, now proving to be a handicap, notwithstanding. The apt saying fits well on it, viz, 'the old is gold'. In its new 'avtaar', the said handicap should be dealt with suitably.

it's amazing when you realize this N8 could perform many things that most newest smartphones couldn't. HDMI connection, TV out, DLNA wireless monitor output, fine camera still comparable to most of today's high end smartphones, USB on-the-go, and many more. I wish it had bigger display, higher capacity battery, higher RAM, faster processor. Oh and let's not forget, this is a 2010 smartphone, so I guess I can live with its lower-than-today-standard-spec.

It's a 5 years old phone Dude, what do you expect. Symbian OS can do what WP, Android, and iOS can do, and every other OSes learn from it. Symbian is not bad but it is killed by Elop & MS (bad and killed are two diffrent things). Regarding CPU of N8 and other Belle Phones they just enough for Light weight and power efficient Symbian.

The N8 handles stereo audio headphones just fine. If you want a headset with a microphone, you need an OMTP converter. These are available for a couple of bucks once you know what you need. I use mine every workday for a conference call. Back when the N8 was built, pretty much all the headsets followed the OMTP standard and thus the N8 fit pretty much all the headsets. Standards are a good thing. But then some fruity phone manufacturer came in and decided that it didn't need no stinkin' standards. They reversed a couple of wires in the plug. And the headset manufacturers followed market share and reversed the matching wires in the receptical. You can't find OMTP compatible headsets anymore. Thankfully, OMTP adaptors exist.

It is a really good phone!!!. Camera is amazing, video is amazing. I dropped like 100 times and even with cracked screen it worked 100%. But after the 101th drop the buttons started to give up. First the lock-button died than the power button. When you tilt it while the facebook is loading it freeze. the battery is Non-removable what is bad. You should buy a case what save the camera.

Mine is still working, You can have other mails apps as a back uu for free from "Applist" (like Quick Mail by Allstar Software and qooMail by qooApps). There are still many sites that have Symbian apps if you browse the internet, and 808 is a great all-round phone. I never regret my 808.

That's the ambient light sensor, it regulates display brightness. If you look closely, to the left of it there's the proximity sensor too.

Urgent help : I have 2 memory cards - one memory card 1 (transcend 32 GB class 10) and another is memory card 2 (silicon power 8 GB class 4) Whenever I insert the memory card 1 and choose the 'memory card' for video recording (via camera), I am getting this error 'unexpected error occurred please restart the camera'. This does not occur when I insert the memory card 2 or choose the mass memory fo recording video. But I have formatted the memory card 1 and tried. Same error is displaying. Why is it so?.

I suppose the experience is the same as on N8 but a bigger display. One good thing about Symbian is that I can read quite small letters on the display, while equally small letters on some high-resolution displays aren't so clear. If I could buy an 808, I still would. And the best thing about the 808 display is that has the best visibility under direct sunlight of all the phones GSMArena ever tested.

Urgent help : I have 2 memory cards - one memory card 1 (transcend 32 GB class 10) and another is memory card 2 (silicon power 8 GB class 4) Whenever I insert the memory card 1 and choose the 'memory card' for video recording (via camera), I am getting this error 'unexpected error occurred please restart the camera'. This does not occur when I insert the memory card 2 or choose the mass memory fo recording video. But I have formatted the memory card 1 and tried. Same error is displaying. Why is it so?.

Some apps can do that. If I get a glitch I usually uninstall 2-3 latest apps and it always helps. Had some issues with latest versions of qoo-apps and one more that I can't remember any more. My N8 has been running for 38 days without rebooting right now.

Sadly, the only solution is that you must keep ur background task clean. Because every symbian are familiar with that freezing problem. And in order to do it, you must have a third-party apps to do it. You can browse them on the internet. Hope this one solve ur problem Cheers

Couldn't agree more. Even after iphone and now Samsung Galaxy: I still think of and miss my N8. The camera was brilliant and the feature I liked the best: it had an in built transmitter that allowed to play radio and music on the car stereo. Unfortunately Symbian was in the end not supported by some of the apps such as BBCiplayer. I also liked the design.

You have to find Nokia Maps on the internet and then install, I see it here: As for Nokia Store, it doesn't exist any more for Symbian. You can use AppList: Or Opera Store on Opera Mini... Or look for apps on the internet. In other news, my battery is gone, it has swollen and I was lucky to notice it before it damaged my N8. Well it was 3-4 years old so it was expected. I ordered a new one from GearBest.com for 2,56 Euro, free shipping, it arrived fast enough, they sent it from Sweden to avoid EU customs problems and it works. The battery level acts weird - after 50% it starts discharging fast, but still it holds for a day so I can't complain. I just hope it stays like that. :-)

Why not releasing other generations of N8. Nokia should be aware that N8 is a big success for them and had topped No. 1 selling charts in many parts of the world when it was released in 2010. Nokia could adopt any OSes the want to, but Nokia should not forget to develop its home grown Symbian OS and MeeGo. Besides Android is almost the same as Symbian: Widget, Shortcuts, Pannels, Multi Tasking, Multiple Home Screen & UI, Built in File Manager, and others. Symbian can do what Android can do, but Symbian is more resouce efficient and much better in battery life. So Nokia can give the world alternative OS.

Nokia will now make Android phones and be just another OEM and nothing else. Nokia was different but now it is the same as other Android phone manufacturers. Nokia phones used to stand out in the crowd from the first Nokia phone to the last true Nokia phone(Nokia 808). Wish Nokia would have developed Symbian Belle or MeeGo further to use in 2016 or maybe join the Sailfish OS bandwagon but all these remained a distant dream. Got my Nokia N8 Bronze Colour fixed today after I screwed the touch IC and the display ribbon while opening it two weeks ago. Just had to change the display. It is my 2nd Nokia N8. Thanks for the answer. I think I will just remove the app from my N8. It's on there because I use Kik now and then on my Lumia 930. In case I'd switch to the N8 for a while, I have the app on that device as well ready to use. Though I'm also gonna try the suggestions like appstop. If that works, it will be better to keep the Kik app on the N8.

Not really, if it's not possible within the app itself. I'm using AppStop every time I boot the phone to kill all the apps that I don't need (like Weather...). I also have an app called AutostartManager which should do the same thing automatically but I've been too lazy to set it up. :-) If you need any of them let me know and I'll upload them somewhere and post the link here (if moderators allow). In other news now I'm using my N8 as a webcam for Skype on my PC via the SmartCam app and Bluetooth. It rules even in low light (big surprise considering the sensor size). :-)

Hi dude are you sure the battery is 100 percent original Nokia battery? These days unknown manufacturer makes batteries and put big company sticker on them so as to trick customers into believing that it is original. Since you said its a new battery which may or may not be 100 percent original, it must have something to do with charging cycle. Drain the battery until it says battery low and then plug in the charger and let your phone charge to 100 percent without interrupting. After that monitor the backup it gives. If it's too low then change the battery with a geniune Nokia battery.

There are Viber, Whatsapp and WeChat for the N8. Some of them don't have full functionality like on other platforms. In other news, now it's 2 years since I bought my N8 (used) and no problems yet except the battery doesn't last as long as it used to. Everything else still works fine and I do use it a lot. Best phone in my life. Once I tried to see how long I can keep it on before something goes wrong, but I gave up after... (see pic) and rebooted it to refresh it a little. :-)

The N8 is awesome, so if it's in good condition, yes buy it. Would be nice to have a N8 cause the phone looks good and performs fine. Good camera as well and it gives one handed usability. I have the trio N8, 808 and 1020 and everytime I use the N8 it feels as if you don't need more.

Please try using/enabling the mobile data when you want to use GPS in map applications. I too was upset when mine did not work for 10 to 15 minutes and sometimes it did not help at all. Once your GPS starts working you may switch off the mobile data and GPS continues to work. It is much much faster this way than trying to let the GPS work on its own. I do it all the time now and it works fine. Before that I never got any signal or location for 10 to 15 minutes at least and I would end up feeling frustrated...

I had to sell my Nokia N8 (Dark Grey colour) because it was originally a silver colour model and had its body changed twice and because of that the touch started to misbehave so I changed the touch and it started to work perfect but a new problem popped up after that whenever using internet or making calls the touch was working on its own without the user's input. I flashed the firmware twice through Phoenix but the problem didn't go away because it was hardware specific. Sold it to someone who would use it as an multimedia device without cellular connectivity. Now with that money I bought a Nokia Asha 200. It's hard to find in retail stores. What's more shocking is that Nokia priority stores are getting renamed to Microsoft Priority stores in my locality. By the way, bought a second hand Nokia Asha 200 today for half the rate. Pretty good phone. Nice camera for digital stills, great sound and awesome battery life. Only con is that it doesn't support Whatsapp like my Nokia X2-01 used to despite being a cheap phone and it is a bit slow when using a theme other than the default ones that comes pre-loaded. :-)

No no no, installing Delight is like flashing a new firmware, or upgrading to Belle. Delight is an improved version of Belle, and when you install it the phone will be hacked too and you will be able to install unsigned apps. From what I understand, you also make a backup first and restore it later, so you don't lose much. Just google "n8 delight" and visit their blogspot webpage and see for yourself if it looks too hard to do. I've heard only good things about it.

Yes, it's good for gaming but there are not too many games. It supports sensor games (accelerometer for driving in Asphalt 6, NFS Shift etc). You can remove the battery if you unscrew the two screws at the bottom and basically shake it out. But you need a torx screwdriver. :-)

It is not included, you had to download it from Nokia Store. However, it doesn't work any more (NokiaSoft stopped the service) so I can recommend installing CuteRadio from AppList, works very well for me.

Correction : Not only N8. FM radio can be used in the flight mode of all the Symbian phones. I tried this in 5320 expressmusic and N79.

Sad that the greatest phone ever has to stop working now just so a big company can take over. I don't think I will move with the times on this one. Mee too. I am using N8 as my primary phone and LG G3 as my secondary phone. G3 sucks in terms of battery standby time because of its over resolution display. Note 3 N9005 is far more better but it does not have FM radio.

Such a lovely phone my Nokia N8 is. I guess this is the first Nokia phone with a non-removable battery and also my first phone with a non-removable battey but man, you just open the bottom screws, pull the bottom out, remove the battery lid and pull out the battery. There, you just removed the battery. It's easy to remove the battery of Nokia N8 even though it is termed as non-removable. If only phones like Moto G and Asus Zenfone 5 with non-removable had this Nokia N8 like mechanism for the battery, maybe I'd have given them a thought now that software support for Symbian is at a critical stage but nonetheless, Symbian still rocks. Ever since (June 2014) I'm using Nokia N8, I never had a single crash. Hope Nokia brings back Symbian and legendary phones like Nokia N95, N8 and E series in future. In this whole world, Nokia have the best knowledge of how to make a phone.

hey guys, I've seen many complains from u related with phone bugs, whatsapp etc. I've installed Symbian S4 upgrade on my n8 and let me tell you, this is totally different phone. It doesn lag, it is super smooth and fast, many new features, no bugs and crashes. I've been using it since the summer, try to download it and install it. It really makes the phone a lot better !

Move it to the IMAGES folder in the memory card. Then switch off your mobile. Remove the memory card carefully. Then insert again. Switch on the mobile and wait dor 5 minutes to finish booting. All the best.

Oh that's great to hear, it's good that it's not some hardware problem. I never used Whatsapp but I've seen apps called "Close Whatsapp" and "Whatsapp Scheduler" which turns it on/off at specific times of the day. Personally I hate that type of applications (always running, always connected to the internet) where the user doesn't have any control. Problem solved, then. :-)

Finally my N8's screen turns off automatically again. I found out whatsapp kept on running continuously and that caused problems, while I don't even use whatsapp on this phone. So I deleted the app, and now the phone's screen does turn off from itself again.

The screen on my N8 doesn't turn off automatically anymore. It doesn't matter if I set the screen lock-time differently, it just doesn't turn off anymore, except if I use the lock switch. Anybody facing the same issue? Or what to do about it?

One of the best phone, if one talks about the durability, design, camera, voice and many more. NOKIA why don't u put the android in this. I used to have this phone, really loved this phone, but the software made me to change this phone. Can't find decent nokia n8/ nokia n8 sellers (lmao). Tried looking at androids. The ones I can afford have measly internal memories and with Google's idiotic SD card restrictions with KITKAT version of their MODERN OS,I'm not looking forward to rooting just so I can install apps. On the memory card. Pfffft. Link2sd my behind. What a dilemma. Will sit out till next year. Or just get abandoned kitkat devices if I can't help myself. Haha. Abandoned KITKAT devices. The level of software configurability in Windows Phone leaves you no doubt - it is assumed you are too stupid to use a system with any advanced features so all these had been removed. They didn't stop on system options, they even removed some of the key software! Lumia 510 (I know it is not exactly in the same class of phones but is much newer) fresh out of the box - it obviously has bluetooth but you can't use it to eg. send contacts from your old phone as it has no Bluetooth software (nor SD cards slot).. I believe N8 was one of Nokias top achievements in their multitask phones lineup as it has everything it should have plus a lot more rare features like FM transmitter, HDMI Out, USB In and more. I personally loved N900 as well but it wasnt really handy in some situations. N8 for a change performs brilliant everywhere I take it. It required some mods done to the software to enable installation of custom applications but its done easily and gives you access to hundreds of Symbian applications available to download all over internet. Battery savers for example are one of these handy tools that effectively gives you extra day or two to current battery lifetime. I'm an old Symbian user and every time some cool 'new' app came out for Android you could always find something similar for Symbian (except for games but I play Sudoku-like stuff so can't say). N8 is my perfect phone, does everything current smartphones do (it also does what they stopped doing), looks nice, lasts longer, is reasonably durable and has a proper good camera. Lumia 510-likes compared to N8 being 4 years old still look as useful as 3510i (great phone though, in its times).

Oh well. :-) Old Symbian was so cool for the era, well even now smartphones can't do some of that stuff. I remember the 3650, one of my friends had it, and I just looked at the 3230. I still have my 6600 for which I've had a few "Oh is it the one from the movie?" comments. :-) That was my first Symbian, after that an E51 and a few phones in-between. It was so much fun with all those apps and games, I remember battery could last for a week, but with my use... A day or two. Well Apple assumed everything right - give them one big button that they can press when they don't know what to do, and they're safe, voila, best phone ever. I remember trying to make my father take a pic with an iPhone (he's very old) and telling him "just press the only key there is to take a photo" and he kept pressing the "home" key instead the _only_ key shown _on_the_display_! Argh! Make something that even a fool can use and only a fool will use it. :-) As someone said elsewhere on GSMArena - the world is full of people, and people are made of humans. :-/ Back on topic, the other day I used an app called BelleCleaner and got some more free space. However, it looks like it cleaned too much as when I went to the messages there were no sender names beside the messages any more. Only phone numbers. Oops! Solution: Go to phonebook, set "SIM card contacts" as default, then go back and set "phone memory contacts" as default again. Problem solved. :-)

I'm reminded of the time when one of my online friends on a now defunct site called her gf while an action movie was playing on smartmovie. On a nokia 3650. Maybe apple assumed ppl are too stupid to shut down apps sent to the background but I can't blame them since a lot of ppl caused my nokia 3230 to hang because they thought pressing RED KEY equates to shutting them down. Bummer. Must be the same reason why nokia s40 didn't include multitasking out of the box or turn the RED KEY into Appshutdown on their s60v2 os8 and up.

Ha! Totally agreed. I've always thought of the iPhone as the Nokia 3310 of the new era - wow it's fast, it's pretty, everyone has it, everyone wants it, everyone talks about it (except the "indestructible" bit naturally)... But when a demanding user gets one it's just frustrating. Back then, I got rid of my 3330 and got a Sony Ericsson, slower but with proper menus and I could actually do things quicker. :-) You think egg timer stopping is bad? OK, now imagine this: I'm talking via Skype on my N8 (back when Skype still worked on Symbian) to someone with an iPhone 4. I get a message - I hear a beep, I check the message, I keep talking. A bit later I need to check something on the web, I check it via Opera Mini while still talking on Skype about what I'm reading. And then... ZAP!!! Call dropped. The other side calls again and says sorry, there was a text message. Hello??? :-D

The only iphones I've used are the 4 and 4s. And navigating them is very tiring. Takes a lot of presses to move around. Was playing with an egg timer when my friend's 4s received a txt that needs to be answered. Egg timer goes to the background................... And stops. Totally. I sort of remember that, when all this interest counting started, N8 was number 1, and even back then it wasn't exactly new. :-) The other day I've read that Nokia sold 10 million of them, but it was just something someone mentioned somewhere. So every hypothetical owner researched his purchase and checked the page at least 3 times, which can't exactly be said for iPhones or most Androids, looking at their view counters. :-) As for LEDs, sad but true. There's an interview with Damian Dinning on AllAboutSymbian where they are speculating that the next Nok... - I mean Microsoft - camera flagship won't have Xenon - and some leaked prototypes sort of confirm this - because of more possibilities (combining more images into one etc) to play around with LED. Well good, but I still need the hyperfast old-school Xenon. Sadly it's sort of a niche product category, and I'm betting most people don't even know what it does. Except that phones with Xenon aren't thin. 2 and 3... It's all because of mass consumerism and money making, sadly. I'm thinking of expressions like "throwing money at problems, not solutions" or "creating solutions for non-existent problems" and of course "planned obsolescence". I wonder how many people actually stream music while driving to work, with bad signal, battery drain etc? The same for uploading and backups, should I leave my phone on wifi and charger all day? And trust that photos of my dog won't end up in the wrong hands? :-) Companies still make phones that are worse than flagships 2-3 years ago and yet do everything to persuade people that they should get a more expensive new one instead a perfectly good old one. Imagine how it was possible, 10 years ago, to launch a flagship that was still desirable and perfectly usable 2 years later... Off-topic - I played with the iPhone 6 Plus yesterday... Wow it's big. And thin. And light. And feels cheap-ish. :-)

You know what bothers me with some of these "advanced" phones people keep talking about? 1. Advanced camera optics with LED FLASH. 2. Non expandable storage/pitiful storage for App installs (1st world reaction: Who cares about microsd? Just upload to Google drive/One drive etc) 3. "Nearly" non removable battery. (1st world reaction: I change phones every 2 years so it's not a proble for me. I say: Yeah, it's the proble of the next guy who will buy your phone, right?) PS. Hell-o, I don't know about Adobe, but I'd recommend NSR Reader - it's free on AppList, fast and light ( ). Or Picsel Smart Office, both handle .pdf much better than Adobe. No idea about the search shortcut, I used it a few times and forgot about it, sorry. I agree about Android, tried it, it's not bad but not too good looking and I don't like the idea of being spied on and paying for it. :-) I would get one just for Skype but I don't need it that much any more, so...

Have a look at the moto g, very similar phone with much better specs, a very ergonomic design and great user experience. Almost stock android, so no unecessary bloatware and is 100x better than the nokia n8 which i found very annoying to say the least and the ovi store is just atrosious. Also, the moto g is still a very afordable phone and is in the same price braket as the nokia n8

How do i resolve that? b) secondly, my shorcut for music search is also not working. If i use the shortcut 'search' for images, videos, etc, it is working fine. Ah yes, I see what you mean. I haven't seen a theme with a transparent menu bottom bar yet so I guess it's not possible. What makes me angry are theme makers who don't make the bottom bar transparent (which _is_ possible) even in the home screen, so when I turn the camera on there's a non-transparent stripe at the bottom covering a part of the frame. I guess it's not a problem for other Belle phones, but for the N8 it surely is. I haven't seen a transparent theme yet, definitely. Sorry. As for AMOLED, I actually use a theme with a dark brown background, mostly because I use my phone a lot at night and if the theme is completely black I don't see where my thumb is too well. :-D As for the Store update, the guy from AllAboutSymbian is trying to find out what it is about too and there might be an article about it on Monday. I actually used Twitter to read that, which doesn't happen too often. :-)

Unbelievable but true. I got the 5.1 MB update for the Nokia Store today . Just updated but I don't see any improvements except the Store offers smooth and faster navigation now. It's worth the update. As you know, Nokia X2-00 is having 240x320 resolution and theme there on the forum is made for 320x240 resolution so it won't fit well on the X2-00 but since it's a Nokia, it will at least work. Try it on your Nokia X2-00 and you'll get an idea of what kind of theme I am looking for my Nokia N8. This is a fully transparent theme where the wallpaper can be seen in most of the user interface and except the icons, all the elements are transparent through which you can see the wallpaper. I want a theme like that for my Nokia N8 if possible :-) Nokia Evolve theme is AMOLED friendly because it's a black theme so the on screen buttons on the menu won't be transparent.

Hmmm maybe he opened it and realised it's not the color he advertised? But then, where would the images be from? Well if it's eBay you should be protected somehow. And if I remember correctly you were looking for the pink version - in that case you're probably color blind and it's all the same to you. :-))) Kidding! :-D Anyhow, I got mine used, and I'm probably the 3rd owner. Took me a long while to find one at a price I could afford, a few went away right before I called, and finally I found one in a city next to mine. The case was scratched and a screw was missing near the hdmi port (I got it later, and the case didn't get any new scratches since) but I was tired of looking and... On one side a lovely dark grey Nokia N8, on the other side some pieces of paper with numbers of them - Just give me my phone already!!! >:-) For all I know it could have been opened or repaired in the past, but luckily, 20 months later and still no problems. The thing is really built to last (knocks on wood).

Believe or not, Nokia Store got a 5MB update yesterday - but nobody knows what's new about it. :-) Some are speculating that it has something to do with Opera but no idea what it would be. Some say that some paid apps are now free - don't know about that either. :-) I'm thinking of getting some cheap Android just for Skype calls from home, but can't afford it right now. Apart from that, the N8 still does all that I need. :-) Got your theme from UC forum, I'll try it on my X2-00 later. :-) What do you mean by "fully transparent"? I have a 3KB "theme" which has no elements whatsoever, so if you use SisContents or Theme Graphics Switcher to add new elements or icons to it, and install it, you will get the default Nokia Evolve theme with no changes except the new elements. Is that what you need? If it is, I can give you a link to Zedge where I uploaded it, just let me know. :-)

Been using Nokia N8 since June 2014 alongside an Android phone especially for apps. It has its share of goods and bads. Already hacked it because sooner or later, Nokia Store will be replaced with Opera Store, as per rumors. Had a Nokia X2-01, for which I created my first theme thanks to MdN8. It can be found in Java > Theme section of UC Forum by username Shivam88. I have been looking for a fully transparent theme for my Nokia N8 Belle Refresh. Tried many but most weren't fully transparent. So if anyone knows of a full transparent theme especially made for Symbian Belle, please provide the link here. Thanks in advance :-)

Yes, 14% right now. Like they are expecting something... On a side note, right now I have 243 apps installed in my N8. That includes the app that counted them. :-) Works with no problems whatsoever, the other day I rebooted it after 14 days, just to clean the memory a bit.

Yes. Ankiweb does work with opera mini. But you can only input entries individually. At least the windows version can do mass import and sync with the web version. Stopped for a while because when they made the shift to 2.0, the pc program deleted all my cards when I tried to sync. Never again will I rely on silly processes that need internet connection. I'd rather backup and restore locally.

60 dollars??? Heck, if I could find it at that price I'd grab it to have a spare one even though I'm a guy. :-D Well better luck next time. :-) Does the web version of Anki work with Opera Mini? I can tell you right away not to count on the built-in browser, and Opera Mobile never worked properly for me. But I've used Opera Mini on this and on my previous phones and I'm just used to it. As for the apps, Symbian people have a saying "we have a bookmark for that" :-) I actually tried the Instagraph Uploader app for Symbian but after a day they didn't allow me to log in or register any more probably because they don't support Symbian officially. And... Who cares? I get a phone with an amazing camera and I'm supposed to ruin my photos with some silly filters and upload that for all the world to see? Nopes. :-) Yes, new "smart"phones got people used to having a constant internet connection, but I don't need anything of the sort. I already pay for internet on my PC and it's flat. And I don't need anyone tracking me. I'm using FB Mobile with Opera Mini and no problems with that. Yes, only calls, and that's the only thing I really miss, since Skype stopped supporting Symbian I only have Nimbuzz and Fring left but most people only know about Skype and it's hard to persuade them to try anything else. Grrr. :-)

Those two would be more than enough for me. There is a web version for anki but I hate always online conn and the alternatives available either have spacings that is not good and/or have no decent mass import for thousands of questions. And it's also funny how ppl diss symbian for lack of apps when most of those "awesome apps" for android/ios require internet connection. I mean, why a need for INSTAGRAM app when you could just allow uploads on instagram.com aka a website. haha. My friend had to download FB messenger app for iphone because he cannot send private message when accesing m.facebook.com on his safari browser. HAHHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAA. Even my dead n78 can do that with opera mini only. Just no voice call but still..... haha

I actually had to do a search for Anki and Mindmapping, and I learned something new. :-) Well, developers... They are like robots. Or maybe like sheep. :-) If 1000 make the same type of app for some platform, there will be 2000 "me too" ones too. But if nobody makes it, no one wants to be the first. I have a feeling that the remaining Symbian developers earn quite a bit more than a million iOS and Android developers, simply because there's no competition and the users have to buy from them. Let's see what Opera Store gives us. Right now they have a million of mostly useless apps, but I hope to see some real developers go there and continue the support. And if that means that Opera Mini keeps getting support I'm not complaining as it's pretty much the only internet-related thing I need, both in Symbian and Java version. Looks like UC stopped developing for Symbian and some sites don't render well any more, but Opera Mini still works like a charm. Not an expert in anime, though I've seen some on 7ba.ru but chopped to bits, so I guess they aren't "complete". Glad you managed to find what you need. :-)

It would be better if there is someone who could make equivalent apps on android that isn't available for symbian. Even a watered down java version will do. For ex. Anki multimedia flashcards and Mindmapping apps. Everything else can go to heck.

Same here, it's been my dream phone since it was announced and I got mine in March 2013 after quite a bit of searching and saving. And it still makes me smile. :-) I tried other phones too, but when I try the iPhone I play with it for 5 minutes, see what it can do, put it down and forget about it, boring phone. I try Android, it's OK, but I put it down and don't miss it either. But I always have an excuse to do one more thing with my N8, just can't let it go. Except when it needs to be charged. :-)

I think the defective motherboard (something about soldering and temperature) was just the very first series back when it was released, and I don't even think the pink one existed back then. As for videos, I just stick with mp4 and it can play pretty much any of them, didn't have many problems, maybe one video out of 50. Didn't try too many other formats. And 360p is actually the easiest one to get, you have YouTube downloaders for the N8 and they give you mp4 in resolution of your choice, plus I have a YouTube download extension in Firefox which also gives 360p or 720p mp4. The N8 plays them without problems. 3gp goes too, but not many other formats although I haven't experimented too much.

Hi, everyone. Yeah I made a mistake about lack of amoled and corrected it a few posts later to CBD. Now that the store is moving to opera like what i was suggesting a while back, I'm reconsidering. Nokia N1 can wait. I was just wondering if the pink ones are free from defective mobo and if anybody can post what parameters to consider/avoid when looking to play 480p/720p videos? It does have amoled but not the same as the phones you mentioned. The N8's screen lacks Clear Black. These Clear Black screens were introduced after the N8 was introduced. It would have been great if the N8 also had Clear Black but the screen is still very nice.

Nowadays people use not only one device. Some use tablet and one more phone. To be a secondary one or camera phone : Nokia N8 is one of best choice. At the present its price is affordable, phone is very strong , camera is still very good (if we know how to make photo properly) in bright and low light place), battery is good , searching internet is also fast ( by wifi or network). I did not keep the picture in this phone ( images kept in my tablet instead because it's easy to edit/ share with friends). If we see its pictures in tablet or laptop . .we' ll know that they are beautiful. Even i just bought one more smart phone but i cannot abandon my lovely & useful N8 . On the other hand : after upgrading firmware to Nokia Belle refresh : it make me easier by making photos, turn mobile data/ wifi/bluetooth/ silent on and off. I use few kind of smartphones inclusive of Blackberry, Android and iPhone but i still love Symbian especially Nokia phones are durable and easy to use. :)

I am using this phone since past few years never had problem with MP4 songs vwith best battery back up and clarity on the screen is perfect however if the size of the movie is too long such as 200MB movie sometimes it reads sometimes it dosent on top of that I cant fast forward the movie at all or else the screen goes blank nothing works untill i press the command key. I have 5 HD games which are saved in the memory card Around 4GB of HD songs and watch 1 movie at a time which I download from computer and t/fer to the Mass memory. Hi bro, i have not used Lumia 720 so i dont know its function properly but generally we can send contact card (send all contact at a time) via bluetooth. One thing you should do before using Nokia N8 : Upgrade firmware to Nokia Belle refresh !!

you should define your gmail account as you nokia account on your N8 and sync all of your contacts in your N8 with your gmail (nokia) account than use same gmail account of yours to define your googleplay account and sync again all your contacts with your Samsung mobile. Also using the same Gmail account, you can reach your contacts on any device you wish. N8 is still a Legacy! sorry that you had to move on, too.

If ur primary concern is photography, then no doubt N8 is still one of the best camera phones with good battery backup, clear crisp screen, stereo audio quality, HDMI, Usb On-The-Go, FM Transmitter, & much more. But if u are a heavy gamer or app-holic, then surely u should not proceed as Nokia has stopped software support for N8 since last year. So u wont find any latest game or app for N8. Hi bro, another alternative to transfer your messages are to connect ur N8 to pc using pc suit. After connecting, copy all the messages from phone to pc, then connect ur G3 & transfer the messages. Hope it helps. Enjoy ur new phone.

I upgraded to a Lumia last year, but sold it after 3 days & bought a new N8. 12MP camera, FM Radio, a T-9 predictive text keyboard & compatible with Nokia Suite. The Lumia had none of the above features which are essential for me. I hope I can still buy an N8 on Ebay when this eventually packs up.

Try factory reset. If it doesn't work, then flash your N8 with Belle Refresh firmware of your country by looking up your N8's product code by dialing *#0000# in your dialer using Dead USB flashing via Phoenix tool. If reinstalling the firmware doesn't get rid of the problem you are facing, then I guess the mechanism for opening the shutter might be broken. It's better to go to Nokia Care.

Hi fellow NOKIA N8 users, my concern is, my N8 that has been so helpful suddenly the camera has developed a problem. The camera shutter has refused to open when the camera is on to take photos. The flash light is working well. Only the shutter unworking. I have tried resetting camera settings, switching off the phone, etc... Nothing! Please give advise. Am distressed!

I am not caroh, but I strongly suggest you look for other phone that supports skype than this. There are newer nokia symbian device if you're an all out symbianite. Otherwise, there are lower priced phones out there that can do better than this (windows phone or android). I still use my nokia n8 albeit I prefer my xperia mini pro even though it's smaller and lousy camera, unfortunately I broke my mini pro so I have to endure using N8 for now until I buy a new phone on December (holidays=discounts). I use my n8 primarily to make and answer gsm calls, text, camera still great. for actual skype and other IM apps, experience is not very great. Honestly. Many developers have stopped supporting symbian apps so buying an n8 today is not a very good investment.

We were promised support at least until 2016 by Mr. Elop and now, one by one, all the services are getting killed for Symbian. The Maps data in WP and Symbian is the same and it wouldn't be hard to update the Nokia Maps for Symbian. It wouldn't surprise me if tomorrow the Nokia Store and the Nokia Maps for Symbian stops working. Just for WP, Nokia betrayed all its loyal customers. I like Nokia Maps a lot which is why I had to use the Lumia 625 but not anymore because Here Maps are available for Galaxy phones now. Goodbye Microsoft. WP OS is doomed to failure.

Hey man, sorry but as Mdn8 said. Skype for symbian i dead, and it's not the only service that is dead. Right now, even though i still love my n8 i can say it is not worthy to buy anymore. Not that is not good, but jist cause every support for it will be killed this year. There are some guys trying to keep Symbian alive, but, let's face it...there is no road for it anymore. Don't get me wrong, it is a great device and still has allot of functionalities, but for what you want...and for what people this days want...hmm.

Hi Brother, i really appreciate your love for N8, but its almost a 4 years old phone & Nokia has stopped supporting N8, so it wont receive any updates or improvements. & all the new & popular apps are never going to come on N8 & the apps which are present, are losing their compatibility e.g skype. I agree that the camera clarity is awesome, but buying a phone only on the basis of camera is not an appropriate decision. Nowadays many phones offer the similar functionalities of N8 i.e HDMI & USB ON-THE-GO. So, i request u to again think upon ur decision of getting this phone just now.

Filling up of the phone memory is too common issue for this phone. Phone starts accumulating junk files when internet is accessed. To overcome this issue, u should first hack ur phone by Nortan & then install mobile cleaner app, available in n8Fanclub. I have flashed my phone with the Delight firmware long time back and I am not sure but do you get a "create new" option when you go to the equalizers menu ? If you get it then you can customize them.

Hey guys, long time no post. But, as i switched to Lumia i had less interest in Symbian, still i tried to watch what happens further. As we can all see, after being stab't, Symbian is slowly fading away, by force. A lot of stopped services and they will not stop here unfortunately, they will kill the last breath of it, the store, by the end of this year. So, with this said, i think it is safe to say, there is no more symbian in this life anymore. Owning a Lumia after N8 was a bit of a pain, but surprisingly did not last to much. wp8.1 kind of fills most important gaps between it and Symbian. There are still, but not crazy important. As i entered in this 'new world' as they say, i entered in terrible battery era. Even though it is windows phone using a 1020 for photographs and internet is limited to maximum one day, if not even less, like 12 hours. MAybe the new devices are better, like lumia 1520, but i won't buy this kind of huge devices. 930 is announced to be even worst then 1020. So, this is the new smartphone era. As for androids, well, is the same, so in this times, nobody can be happy with the battery or praise theirs, cause they...just lie. Yes my phone can last for days if i use it 10 min per day, but this is not the purpose of a smartphone, isn't it? Do, i recommend you to go for lumia? Hmm, yes and no, the quality of this devices has Nokia written all over, and with the new 8.1 is almost, almost perfect. But, who wants customization and loads of options, hmm, well, wp may not be the best in this area, oh well, not at all. There is no other but android for that. But don't forget though, wp is still growing and developing introducing new futures. As for android, if you decide to go for one, hit some htc m8, at least has some premium material into it, and has the same price as all galaxy cheap plastic devices. If not, there is lumia and ios. Hmm, i'd say lumia all the way. So, this will probably be my last post here. Or better said, my last review.

guys, i just recieve a message from Skype. too bad they discontinued their support for Symbian. microsoft want us to change to Lumia phone. weLL, sorry for them. Lumia is not my choice. if they can make another phone as great, beautiful and as functionaL as N8 or other symbian phones, i'LL be back to nokia. but for now, its just a big NO.

I think they discontinued that a while ago, just like Weather and now Skype. You can only enter the settings manually...

I cannot setup my Yahoo mail on my N8. When I click on "add a new mailbox" and fill in the email address and password and press the forward button, I can see only the option "exchange activesync". Any solutions? Maybe I need to change something in settings?

Hallo Carol I realized that I did not back up my contacts properly. no issue anymore. I bought the phone from my friend. she says it did that right out of the box. do not know why they did not return it. there is nothing covering the proximity sensor. I can unlock the phone on the side, but it's very frustrating. I also did reset the phone. did not work. I see there is a lot of people who had this problem, but no one is giving a solution. the phone is still in a very good condition. I thought that maybe it was just a setting problem. will give it in today. its my only option now.

As far as i remember was possible but very dangerous when ther was nokia belle only. I don't know if now it is still posible if you have refresh Here you have some writings about it and some videos. It is a lot to learn and to understand that is not recommended this is a good detailed guide and should work for Sv3 also, but, as i was saying. I don't recommend it.

First things first, have you backed up the contacts?. If yes then you should have a very easy way with nokia suite to put them back in your phone. If not, it will be almost impossible. As for the sensor, this as mdn8 said, is commune among Nokia n8 (but only in ful bright sunlight). And the only thing i could think of, is the glass screen which could stop the sensor reactions in sunlight or powerful light. If this happens no matter what, then...hmmm, could be a hardware problem and that... could have no resolve. Anway, if you slide the lock button does't the screen turn on? This could be a small fix for this crappy issue.

Brother, N8's camera is still unbeatable & untouched in image & video quality, even by recent top androids are behind it. I compared the pics of N8 with the pics of Samsung galaxy S4, Sony xperia Z1, HTC One, & to every1's surprise, N8's pics were way ahead in detail, clear & sharpness & colour reproduction compared to other competitors. I felt so proud at that moment. So, trust blindly in camera as its the product of king in camera phones manufacturer, Nokia. But, if u are planning to buy N8 just now, i would not recommend you to go for it, as its a 4 years old phone & Nokia has stopped giving software support to this operating system, symbian. Many latest apps like instagram, line, bbm, viber- calling & skype-video calling are not compatible & will never come. Skype is present with messaging & calling features, but today morning i received a mail from skype, that they are retiring their services from symbian & skype would no longer work on symbian after few weeks. So, if your prime requirement is camera & budget is not an issue, then u can go for lumia 1020 (best cameraphone till now with 41 megapixel sensor), lumia 1520 or for latest lumia flagship, wait for lumia 930 which has 20 megapixel pure-view sensor.

Then your proximity sensor is broken, it's a common problem on some Nokia phones. I've read about that issue a lot of times, corresponded about it with a Nokia C7 owner too, and there's not much to do except change it, or the whole phone body. :-(

It must be happening because of installation of an app. Which was the latest app u downloaded after which this started happening ? The same happened to me when i installed f-secure & other time when i installed kaspersky antivirus. Frankly, N8 doesnt need any anti virus, so if u have installed any anti virus apps, then uninstall them. & if u cant delete such app directly from the phone, then connect it with the pc & delete the culprit apps. Hope this would resolve your issue.
