O2 XDA Zest - User Reviews

  • i can't open my java or download java application can anybody help.

  • Second worse GPS I have ever used. Only slightly better than the Worse (SE z750).

  • I used to Have one of these, The GPS was Sirf Start III, which is very Powerfull, Very stable Mobile that did Everything i wanted.

  • plzzzzzz anybody tell me whr we get in delhi? and wht is d cost?

  • what is cost

  • this is very nice and very sutible and very usuful and very convinent for use

  • Can it receive MMS. mine cannot. Also GPS is veery weak.

  • Have Owned this Phone now For a Year or So,Longest i've had without Changing Handsets,i've also owned an iphone, HTC, Samsung Touch screen mobiles, The O" Zest touch screen is responsive, & o2 Menu is Well Thought of, Being a windows mobile, i expected freezing/Hanging Issues, but not On this Mobile, it never Crashed on me Ever, which is Great for a Windows Mobile, All other Functions, camera, wifi, GPS work Great, The GPS Picks up Satellites very quickly. So Tomtom works great on this Device, Overall It Does everything i want it to do, But there is only one drawback, its Battery will only last about 12 hours from moderate use, So make sure you Charge it Every night,or carry a spare battery.

  • I cannot received multi media messages on the phone. When I go to the inbox, it tries to create a new message. So I have to use e-mail for photos etc. good job the e-mail app works well!

  • i want to like this Phone, but I cant, its Just not all there, Its built from Very Cheap Shiny Plastic, which attracts finger prints, Battery is Useless unless you Carry A Charger with you & find the Nearest Wall Socket or else you'll Not be able to get a full Days Use from it, Apart from that its Crap, NO NOT BUY IT, BE WARNED.

  • Nice Phone, Has Lots of Features, But the Battery Life only Lasts about 8 hours in Moderate Use, Maybe the First Batch of Batteries must have been Faulty, Will Buy a Replacement Battery.

  • Nice Piece of Equipment, Screen is Really Nice Quality, Fast & Responsive, WIFI, 3G, & a lot of other stuff,it has a Sirf 3 GPS Chip, which Picks up Satellites Really Quickly, Camera is Good, Sound is Also Good, Make sure you use Power Saving CPU Mode, with WIFI off & in 2G Mode,( when not in Use) if you Want Long battery Life, Built Quality is Average could Be better, But i Got one for £50 so You Can't Complain at that Price, Overall 8 out of 10.

  • My android phone broke down, so I went back to using the Zest for Internet access. Downloaded Opera mini 5, Opera mobile 10 And Skyfire as web browsers. Now I have a very good mobile internet machine. Opera mini 5 gives very fast access, although pages are not always accurate and some text overlaps. Opera mobile 10, not as fast as mini opera, but better rendering of web pages and flash lite support. Skyfire, full flash support with videos etc, but watch the data usage is quite high. even managed to get bbc iplayer and itvplayer to work from inside skyfire!

  • Totally agree, mine is exactly as you describe. Have it plugged into car charger, using TomTom, battery goes flat, can't believe it. Volume from speaker (Ha!!) is crap, can't hear it over slow running heater fan even, never mind engine/road noise.

  • Dude, you are using th ewronge charger!! If the battery is getting hot - that is the symptom! It's a warning sign hard to ignore - like a battery running out whilst on charge from a 12v power source. Junk your car charger and get a better one.

  • Asus make this phone as the 565. Google Asus 565. Styluses available in packs of 3 or 10

  • this model is looking good.its battery strength is high

  • Lost one too, couldnt get one anywhere.Made one from a nintendo ds stylus in the end.

  • Anyone have any idea where I can get a new stylus for this phone? I lost one on a train (silly me) and am now using the spare. Any 02 shop I go into seems unable to help and suggests I call customer service, who don't seem particularly helpful either.

  • Can you get onto the internet with a vodafone SIM. I cannot get the settings right! O2 sim works "3" sim works and t-mobile sim works!

  • My Zest is definately unlocked, works fine with a vodafone sim..

  • Try a reset. By putting your stylus into the reset hole, which is located at the bottom of the phone, next to the mini usb power connector.

  • got problem with zest was working fine over weekend ran out of power charged and now when switching on just stays on the windows mobile screen any body got any idead please think its buggered myself but just wanted second opinion

  • Screen alignment is fine. If you calbrate the screen properly when the phone is first booted up! One of the best voice quality phones i've come across. If you treat it as a mobile phone first and pda second, it is fine.

  • GPS settings for memory map - Generic (NMEA), Com8, Baud 9600. Takes a bit of time to find the satelites.

  • Probably the worst pda type phone in the world, battery life less than 6 hours, whilst charging in the car the charger delivers less current than the phone uses, (ran my car battery flat in 2 hours without the engine running. Screen alignment is rubbish, no way to allocate extra virtual memory, battery gets so hot that you can barely touch the phone. BRING BACK THE ORIGINAL XDA, AND THE XDA MINI S, THEY WERE BOTH BRILLIANT

  • I have this phone and i love everything about it :):)

  • I have seen this phone advertised somewhere and thought it looked quite sleek and stylish but i cannot seem to find out how much it is. Does anyone know?

  • Indeed! The Zest is an ASUS P565 with the case and CPU of P552w I`ve got the phone for 4 months now. I`m more than happy with the way it works. GPS works just fine with Google Maps. Acurate and fast. the only thing that i need with it it`s an QWERTY keyboard. Otherwise the phone it`s perfect. I`ve installed a new ROM on it after i tried all the SPB Shells (te phone it`s to slow it all of `em). the Rom it`s a Beta version of Windows Mobile 6.5. it looks brilliant and you will only need a SPB Shell for the keyboard. The ROM can be found with a quick search on google of "WM 6.5 - 21231" and select the first link from the forum of Xda-Developers. You got all the explanations over there about how to install it. the kit comes with loads of pre-Installed Programs. you will only need to intall on it Opera 9.7, Google Maps and YouTube player. (i`ve installed as well Facebook and a Memory cleaner but you don`t need the memory cleaner because when you press X (OK Button) it actually ends the app. ;) wicked thing that is) It works perfectly with Windows 7 (Sync wise). i couldn`t Sync it with the standard software. The only Bug that the ROM has got is that the display on the camera appears with stripes but the pictures are perfect ... Believe me! you want this ROM on your XDA Zest. If you need any kind of help don`t hesitate to contact me on [email protected] P.S. I`m a sales person in an O2 Shop.

  • This is basically an ugly Diamond?

  • this is normal, the manual tells you to charge and let it run all the way down 3 times until battery life will be at the optimum, which is approximately two days. You shouldn't charge it for more than 2 and a half hours either.

  • How did you manage to get the gps to work with memory map? I have tried all of the settings and can't get it to work

  • HELP! my xda zet has broken on me, the screen is blank, but the green led is flashing and i can make/receive calls. any suggestions?

  • There seems to be some conflicting information on this 'phone. I've had mine for a couple of weeks (150 eBay) and would like to clear up the following: It is made by ASUS. It is effectively an ASUS P565 in an ASUS P552w case (and a slightly slower CPU). Battery: Lithium-Ion, needs to be fully charged then fully discharged so the battery logic chip "learns" the capacity and therefore the OS gives true readings. The manual (on CD) says this is to be done 3 times....little over the top, every couple of months is advisable tho. Once this has been done you can recharge when you like as lithium-ion have no "memory" problems. The 'phone is suplied completely UNLOCKED. You can use any SIM you like. The only O2 bits are: O2 on the case and O2 in the O2 menu (SPB Mobile Shell v2) An update was released by O2 a week ago and is worth installing. It made ActiveSync work MUCH better with WindowsXP. It is a "cheap" 'phone, hard plastic case and although the microSDHC card slot is under the battery if you add a 16GB card why would you want to remove it? I've tried TomTom v7, Route66 v8, GarminXT and iGo v8 (my favourite) and all work perfectly. As does Memory Map v5. If you want to funk up the front end install SPB Mobile Shell v3 and also add TouchPal v4 keyboard (SIP). The camera is OK, although I'm sure pictures seem clearer when macro mode is enabled :-/ lol Great little 'phone.

  • This is my third XDA and after 2 months I am getting rid of it. The battery power is abysmal, as soon as you connnect to wifi it drops over 10% and internet browsing is a no-go, it disappears so fast. I had 2 new batteries and returned it to manufacturer and they never admitted that low-battery life is the "norm". I'm opting for an Eten with a longlife bty to return to "normal" PDS useage!!

  • I have found the phone to be great for what you pay for. its not as good as htc sets for sure but as a pay as you go hand set its great. i have never known of a pda with a good camera.. it configures my e-mail fine. i can download apps and themes fine.... very happy

  • I've had my Zest for less than a week and love it. I wanted something that combined mobile with PDA and this is it. Can't comment on internet use as I didn't buy it for that. Interesting thing about battery life. The first two days, I was tearing my hair out because I couldn't get through a whole day. Then yesterday, it started losing charge more slowly and looks as though I will now get two days or more without recharging. Anyone experienced this?

  • I have now owned the Zest for 3 months and first big problem has arisen. The battery is going bad very fast. Previously in standby mode it lost 20% of its charge in a normal 15 hour day. Today it has lost 90% in 13 hours!!!!!

  • No, I don't know. But if anyone knows if a free upgrade becomes available, please tell us. And how to download it. The Internet explorer in 6.1 is crap.

  • do anyone know that o2 zest will be getting upgrade to windows mobile 6.5 or no??

  • I only kept the Zest for 10 days and returned. Very cheap design. Workmanship is poor. The processor is not fast enough. The camera performance is weak. Eventhough I left the handset completely stand still and take shot with timer - so that there is no handshake, the image quality was very poor. Microsd card slot is not well built. It looks like something can go wrong any time. I can say the same for the simcard slot.

  • After using the phone for 2 months. I have to say, no phone is perfect and this one has its faults and limitations. I recieved an email with an attatchment containing zipped photos. yahoo mail on this phone could neither open or download the photos. Had to do it on a proper pc! The screen may be full VGA (640*480). But it is too small at 2.8 inches and full vga resolution is wasted. The iphone has half the resolution and 50% bigger screen by area. Side by side, Web pages look better on the iphone! Damn! Mobile google maps work fine on the phone and I love streetview. But the mobile version has no zoom function in streetview. Still need a PC.

  • I went for this phone when I had the choice between an Iphone or this XDA Zest. Previously I've had a HTC Trinity (3600) for 2 years which has been fantastic (thanks to XDA-Devleopers unending Roms!) but it's getting a bit worn down now and the Dpad was going a bit! So I went for this rather than an Iphone. Personally I think it was a great choice - for a start O2 ships this phone on PAYG and it's unlocked (fact) I'm on 3 and it accepted the sim straight away - no probs. The Iphone has GPS but no decent navigation software (google maps being great fun but no use in a car!) - I had TomTom from my previous phone and on 640x480 it looks fantastic - much high resolution and you can read all the street names from a distance now easily! This phone's screen beats the iphone in resolution even though the screen isn't quite as large - movies on it are no probs - and microSD slot means I can upgrade to as much memory as I like (cheap 8gig card in there right now). Internet wise - download Skyfire for free and it's a great little browser - full screen rendering (for those crazy proxy server haters - yes it's possible that someone somewhere given enough time and determination could see what you are viewing - but if that's a concern then you shouldn't be visiting those sites!! :o ) All in all - given the huge amount of PPC apps available - it's great! Touch screen is fantastic and SPB mobile menu is very good. Love it - recommended!

  • Try to do this - press the soft reset button while pressing the power button. this is the procedure for xda II

  • Te reset hole only does a soft reset. To do a hard reset (as delivedred from factory) you need to select o2 menu/settings/default settings and follow the onscreen instructions. I think if you have put files onto micro SD card they remain - but probably best to backup (before restting) if you need them. If your touchscreen is not working try a soft reset (hole near USB connector) - this may restore your non-working touchscreen so that you can do a hard reset (as above). Failing that, you can also do a hard reset by pressing the WINDOW key (above the green dial key) and select settings/system/default settings. I guess there may be a way of doing a hard reset if your phone is completely locked but I have not found how to do that yet!

  • does this handset have capability to record calls without a bleep? anyone?

  • Reset button on the botton Little pin hole

  • Even slight googling turns up the following: Zest Hard Reset: Joystick up + Power + Soft reset in bottom (push with stylus) You can also get back factory settings via menus: Start - Settings - System - Default Settings - Password is 1234. Remember that everything may/will go including contacts, sms, etc

  • Hi all, Can someone know how make hard reset this mobile. There is no informations in manual.

  • nah they dont , there all unlocked as standard , i know ive personally checked :)

  • Just want to add that the gps works fine with the google maps. Much better than my sony z750i.

  • Not bad. But could be better. My phone is full of bugs and no upgrade for the software is available. There are two internet browsers. One is very poor the opera one is better but not as good as the mini opera four on the symbian os. And cras compared to the iphone. Google maps was not included. Downloading it was a struggle. The screen resolution is excellent and very readable in sunlight. Builtin applications such as word and excel are fine. The touch screen is good. Works with pen, finger and d pad. No haptic feedback. The phone is fast and responsive, except for the internet. Camera is good the video resolution is third rate. I want vga at 30 fps.

  • *CPU is 32bit Intel XScale PXA900 624MHz based on an ARM design that is fabbed by intel/Marvell. Better than more expensivemodels. *GPS is based on SiRFstarIII chip. IE - FAST! *Screen is 2.8" but 640 x 480. *120g with battery. 187 from O2 with discount. 9/10

  • This is branded as O2, but ASUS is the one who made this. Very similar to ASUS P552w, only this is better. The only differnece is that it has a 3mp cam and 640x480 display. I like ASUS, coz they make durable pocket pc's and also laptops.

  • Fantastic little device, O2 have made a good choice moving away from the HTC to this ASUS device (Branded the XDA Zest). Please note peeps, this is an ASUS and carries a certain pedigree. I've owned one for the last couple of months, good sound quality on calls and actually a pretty decent battery life! If you are looking to get a more PDA like phone and still have some fun, this is a good one to look at!

  • rubbish....

  • hai i am user of O2 xda ii mini (HTC) its very good.. but after i change to O2 xda flame ( arima) its very disapointed...very disapointed.....no support update.. i use diamond htc its disapointed to .. very slow if use touch flow... i think if u want to buy o2, u must think again...

  • we wont give anything......

  • Good But there have no Dual SIM, keyboard, TV

  • I have one of these, the volume is really quiet for a phone & the media player keeps crashing when you switch it off. Please can anyone tell me if they are having the same problems, or what can be done to resolve it? I have used xda's for the last 4 years & never had either of these problems before is it just the phone design? thanks in anticipation

  • This Device was made not by HTC, it from ASUS. So I don't know how about the operation and Speaker. I used O2 6 years, so the speaker not so loud or the vibration not so smart I can agree with O2. But with another new user I think it will be hardly accepted. Is it will change with this O2 XDA Zest? Speaker loudly Strong operation Better Vibration

  • Yes well done sherlock it is not an HTC model hence why it is not in the HTC section its made by ASUS but o2 have took it on and branded it an XDA.

  • Guys This is no HTC phone its an Asus Phone

  • specs good and the price but it looks like a slab of teacle but ive put it on my next fone list

  • This handset is also going to be offered on pay and go by o2 at a price of about 250.

  • the O2 Zest is now available from O2 UK. but it is actually made by Asus, and not HTC!

  • I have been with O2 for 6 years now and although sometimes the network is rubbish in my house, I would not change it. when i have had a problem ie: my phone just conked out for no reason they immediately sent a replacement with no fuss.

  • you can unlock handsets of this nature. it will just cost you a fair few quid to do so. to be quite honest with the service that you get with o2, both contract and prepay, i cant see why you would want to unlock one of these phones anyway.

  • In reply to previous poster, I think you will find O2 DO lock all XDA models, they will not accept another sim unless they are unlocked by the user at extra cost.

  • the carrier is o2 uk network, these handsets are HTC but with o2 branding

  • These are the O2 named versions of HTC phones. Except for the brand, everything else is the same as HTC. The phones are not "branded", i.e. they are not locked for use with only one operator, you can use it with any operator in any one country.

  • HTC touch 3G look better if not compare processor speed & screen resolution.

  • I'm not at all familiar with O2 can someone share with me some information on the phones that they offer, specifically which carriers can they be used with?

  • I dont get it... who would buy this...

  • i have never seen this type of mobile...excelent mobile with great features.

  • Yes, lets have more lame WinMo devices. There's nothing new in this one!

  • Brilliant phone

  • great phone and great price10/10

  • Everything is great but the design really ancient. No point's attractive.

  • wow...this is a great device. 1st.
