100% agree with previous poster. My externally sadly battered 15 year 650 is *still my go to for *any PDA function, and the only reliable alarm in the house. Weeell, maybe the Nokia 311 is just as good there. The 'suits' certainly know how to destroy fine design. But WebOS is still so out there! Surely someone could steer it back to mobile/cell phones, so we could return to pure functionality and ease of use, instead of the current max-pizzazz and little else of real use?

I used treo650 for 11 years. Although it cannot be used for 3G network and things related to it in today's times but I really miss the ease of using the usual features such contacts , dialling, Tasks, spreadsheets and everything it has. The palm operating system and softwares were unique and more intelligently made than any of today's softwares which mainly focuses on multimedia aspects. The best feature it has is that you can take the system image and replace it if anything goes wrong with software just as we have in computers. Amazing it was. Nothing compares till date. Thanks

yup, its possible to access the internet. either use the built-in blazer web browser or use the opera mobile for palm. but you're going to have to use GPRS or EDGE (depending on your network) for data speeds as the Treo 650 doesn't have 3G or Wi-Fi capabilities.

for one, the 700w is a CDMA phone. meaning, unlike GSM models (like the phones we use), it doesn't use or need SIM cards. also, the frequencies it uses are for the US telco Verizon and because it's a Palm smartphone,(for some reason Palm has aversion for combining cellular and wi-fi connectivity even though the OS its using, windows mobile, easily supports both) it doesn't have built-in wi-fi. so, your 700w is no more than just an unconnected PDA rather than a smartphone.

There is an eror in specs: Treo650 does support Java, just like any other PalmOS 5 device. Just install IBM Java VM for PalmOS.by the way, it's freeware and still not so hard to find.

Don't expect treo series can use wifi. only Palm PDA which can use wifi(or no wifi version pda add WIFI card)normally. Of couse use 2G online is ok

After 10 years, all I wanna say I'm still miss Treo 650, although it's size big, but it's a good smart pda phone at all. I'm so lucky that I own one brand new treo 650 boxset with brand new batteries which bougut in flea market 3 months ago.I'm so excited & now only keep in a screct place:) My last palm phone is veer, but I'm still love palm system,too bad that palm os not quite really support nowadays tech. I've had this great-before-its-time phone for 5 yrs. I LOVE it! Its user-friendly, easy buttons for texting & a IM-style texting like no Other!, great instant calendar, memos, games, Documents, calculators great,applications, picture files (I only wish the camera had higher pixels), Video, recordable ringtones, great music capability, Physical buttons I love vs. stupid applications on all the new phones. It's sturdy & nearly Unbreakable & has tons of capacity! I have 2,000 txs on it I need to clean out (I use Documents to keep sentimental ones), tons of music storage files & ease, hundreds of pictures stored & 20 books on it! & much More!...the storage is unbelievable! The Ease is unmatched. I love the in & out sim card design, in and out Sd-card port, physical buttons AND applications of any whim. I hesitate to go to iPhone or other newer phones to deal with tedious program in & outs, & all u have to Learn to use it. I go in to church or a movie & with 1 touch, turn off the phone. It's an easy phone! I have 2 now, & am searching for more for the future. I worry the Service Providers won't handle it's service much longer, updating. Does anyone know more about this?

Hi, Not sure if you were able to unlock your Palm yet, but wanted to let you know that I was given a 650 a couple of weeks ago, that was locked. So I went to ebay, and found an unlock service for $2.47, which worked like a charm. Next thing I had to do was do a yahoo search for internet and mms settings, I was able to find them pretty quick, and now I have an unlocked Palm that I can surf the net with as well as send multi media with. all the ebay seller needed was imei # model and who it was locked to. Lexi, I had my treo 650 since 5+ years now and i have never had a phone this long. Its my back up phone to my new samsung B7610. I have graduated to many phones since then but this phone is still with me. It was way advance than the other phones then before. I love this phone. The only problems with the phone are that it reboots itself and i could not transfer directly the phone addresses to a new phone. Maybe there is a conversion from OS to Windows?? But i really dont care. For your protective screens why not just use another screen and just cut it into size. Overall, this phone is worth every single cent i paid for it back then.

Great phone -Great applications! After 4 years or so, my Treo is finally telling it's age. The phone functionality turns off and on and random intervals. (it works but I never know when I'll miss a call. = / ) That said, this phone was extremely reliable for many years! Pros: *Great reception *Practically unlimited applications (if you can think of a functionality, I guarantee you that someone has made an app for it! I even over-clocked my phone for a time to 400mhz(stable).) *responsive touch screen (Prior to the iPhone, it was the best IMO) *One of the most configurable phones I've ever used. (nearly everything on the phone can be tweaked) *Great calendar! Cons: *Difficult learning curve for the OS. (the OS isn't the most user friendly) *Keyboard can be difficult to type with (you have to press the buttons fairly hard) *It Randomly Calls People. Be careful when carrying it around in your pocket! You never know when the phone might decide to call one of your friends! (my biggest complaint -Can be solved with a carry-case.) *Poor native file management. (this can be solved somewhat with FileZ or other similar apps)

I've had my Treo 650 for over 2 yrs and before that, a Treo 300. I love them. Definately a data phone first-- data organizer, PDA, memos, etc... yet it doesn't slouch on games, camera, and Google Maps. I understand other versions of the Treo are good also, but not all use the Palm OS. There are over 7,000 free palm programs available (freepalmsoftware.com), yet I'm still moving to a 3G phone??? Why??? I'm not sure.

well not a bad fone,with relativity to user ability and basic software..rating is above average,durability is above average,fuctions such as excel,word,pdf comes in handy for MBA students like me,basically im in need of a fone with wifi capabilities so im dumping my 650 after 2yrs of constant use...the media player sucks coz it hardly accepts other file formats other dan the standard mp3 files..the camera clearity aint impressive.the external speakers aint loud enuff...well on the outlook imma advice dis is a phone for first time pda users,and consequent experience with a treo wud open oppurtunities towards what to look for when buying a more recent pda...the new palm pro aint impressive size wise and keypad wise..so imma go for a nokia E90...N97 or even the 9300i for the big picture ya dig... .

Hello, I notice that you have a Palm Treo 650 that takes a sim tray. My 650 does not seem to take one and I think it used the Alltell service originally I have an sd slot at the top nest to the antenna but that is bigger than the sim tray. i love this phone the chat format SMS i really like it! its like chatting on Yahoo messenger! the battery is way better than other phones 2 to 3 days max. its very user friendly once u get use to it. good camera good sound and good signal. but its kinda old but what the heck its still a TREO not some old nokia or SE its a 4 year old phone but still its a treo! try to find a 4 year old nokia like 6600 its a trash now! hahaha!

I think the best thing you do is to check first what cellphone that suits to answer your daily needs/activities, for me you have to buy a windows mobile phone because as for my experience it addresses all thing that you need from ordinary phone to business functions. yes you can play movies, install TCPMP with all its codecs, can play a lot multimedia formats. I play .avi format movies always.

I don't think that you can change the language unless you set up the phone from the beginning again. You can do that by doing a hard reset, see for more info on how to do each type of reset. Cheers.

so stupid. i rcv a call requesting for MMS/GPRS settings. after getting the subs number, i asked for his handyphone (treo 650, i've never heard the unit before so i thougth its not supported by any system, especially on our plug n play. i also thougth that there's no information when it comes to manual configuration, so i advise subs that he should go to a nearest buss center for his phone for the request of his configuraton. after that call i immediate look up for treo, that's when i figured i mispelled that treo to trio.. hahaha i suck!!! that subs probably going to complain me.

I used to have a treo 650 with Bell (cdma), used for for about 2 years and it was great, recently switched to Rogers (gsm) and got myself a blackberry curve. it works really well however I miss some of the features of the treo 650. I found a used one that I could get (unlocked). what should I do? Great features but really lousy reception. I have checked & am in a very strong signal area. Feedback from Palm retailers is common problem. Hi treo friends. Well the treo phone is good. I need some few remedies. 1. The buttons on the first row seem not to work at all. I have even tried to hold hard the battery to see if its loose but no luck. 2. The problem of goes off periodically. 3. I need to install windows and excel software.Pls give me steps to follows. The treo is a great phone. I especially like the internet option. But the numbers on the first row all seem not to work. I have really tried to switch off the phone, remove the battery and even held the underside of the battery hard but no luck. If there is a solution, please advice me.

To Majid Ali: That is a limitation of SMS messaging, not of this particular phone. I've had this phone for about a year now, and though it has locked up on me a few times, that is mostly due to two programs: Mundu IM (instant messenger) and TreoAlarm (alarm clock/weather app). Otherwise it seems to be fairly stable and a decent phone. I've been holding off on replacing it with an iPhone for two reasons: One, the iPhone as of February 2008 does not support Bluetooth DUN without a hack, and also because for some strange reason, AT&T converted my individual consumer account to a "small business" account when I upgraded to the Treo and I don't think they will activate an IPhone. If they do, it may be under a business rate and I'll end up paying more for the data plan than most people.

This in my opinion is a great phone. I've made several attempt to switch to a newer phone or other brands but I realize its very user friendly. The only concern are the T5 screw come missing if dropped several times oops!!!. This is type of phone you will have and your friends will say "man why do you have that old thing?"

i got this phone since 2005 and it work well. there're some difficulties: gprs blueetoth with XP, keypad freeze so you must push the restar button and the worst thing, it restarting itself. i tried many software, then finally i use the standard software to support my work. Push email is good (you must buy the sw versamail 3.5, treo 650 is using older version without push email). does anyone hve same experience that the phone restarting itself, the stability is under questions.

For the below user.... For transfering music files into the palm u must have the real player installed on ur system. when u perform the sync operation both devices the computer and palm must have the real player opened. In real player on ur computer select now playing--> burn/transfer-->select ur device--> drag the music files into the realplayer window-->apply right click on the music files select start transfer...:) that's it.

Ye,s Ringo is the main application to assign MP3's as ring-tones the phones is unable to assign MP3 ring-tones without a special applications.

My palm 650 is the best phone I've ever had. You can use mp3 as ringtone or assign them to your contacts if you have ringo. Basically it does everything if you know how to use it properly. It has no 3G and cant be used as modem though; Other than that perfect!

Yes, you must perchase "Ringo" to use MP3 ringtones. You can assign ringtones(Polyphonic) to contacts without "Ringo" by placing them as one of your favorties in the phone application.

To answer the questions below: The Treo 650 is Class 10 EDGE (which is capable of up to ~384 kilobits/sec. I have only found ICQ/AOL/MSN & Yahoo for the Treo, but the nice part is that they are all within one program. See here: It's still one of the BEST phones out there considering the iPhone and Blackberry Curve are both only EDGE class 10 as well. Of course, the iPhone is major iCandy, but for functionality, I still use the hell out of my Treo 650.

Some probs though : While surfing the net, if you happen to get a call or press the menu button etc and later on return to surf again, (unlike Nokia)the last webpage is gone. I am once again directed to my home page. This is rather frustating. Nokia on the other hands keeps downloading the last page I was viewing and retains it. Is there a solution to this please !!!

Performing a factory reset on a Treo 650: Launch the Security application. If the Password box says "Unassigned," tap the box and create a password for your smartphone. Once the password has been set, disconnect your smartphone from the AC charger and take off the battery cover. Do not remove the battery yet. Hold down Power/End. While holding down Power/End, remove the battery. Then insert it again. While still holding Power/End, the screen will show the palmOne or Palm logo and a progress bar. Then the circular Palm Powered logo will appear. Release the power button when you see the Palm Powered logo. Keep holding the Power button during this screen. When you see this screen, you can release the Power button. A message will appear warning that you are about to erase all the data stored on your smartphone. Press UP. You'll see a series of Palm logo screens, then a prompt to tap onscreen targets. The Factory Reset is complete.

I have the Treo 650 for about 2 weeks now. I'm impressed with it. I first tried a SE P990i, but that wasn't really for me (too slow, no good mail client available, bad battery life). The Treo is a nice phone, with decent battery life, and the great PIM functionality we've come to expect from Palm. With some added software like SnapperMail (Chattermail is also nice it seems), Documents To Go, NVBackup and some others, you can get some work done and don't fear data loss (unless you lose your phone, so be sure to sync regularly).

Hi, To istall applications on the treo you need the CD that came with it, istall the software. On your desktop you should have a program called "QuickInstall" double click it and there on the left you have two fields: Istlall on internal memory; and Install on Extension Card; Drag and drop the desired applications in the corresponding field (you need an SD Card to use the Extension Card option) then just HotSynch the phone and you are done.

Just upgraded from Treo 600 to 650. The new one is miles ahead in every respect. The screen is an absolute stunner while all functionality has remained the same if not gotten better. I know the 680 has been released for some time now but when you read the specs comparing the 2 the only real difference is double the internal memory on the 680 and the fact it does not have the antenna sticking up. In Australia there is still over $400 difference between the 2 handsets so my thoughts are that the 650 makes so much more sense. At the end of the day I love my new 650!!!

the best smartphone/PDA phone I ever had. Good battery life, not buggy, good html browser, clear pictures even if not megapixel resolution, good video quality wc allows pausing between scenes. you can remove simcard and memcard anytime you want without hanging phone, very convenient mute switch, very crisp and clear display, easy to install applications. drawback: big antenna (wc was removed in the 680 model), typing symbols still confusing me. overall it's the best i've had. might trade my unit with the 680 though

We get poor cell svc at our house - I have Sprint Treo 650 (Palm) which according to the GSMArena listing should have SDIO capability. Ok phone for the first couple of months then it started to freeze up (had to take battery out and reset) 3-4 times a day...and now, Im not geting at least 80% of my text messages!!! Very frustrating! I have been told to go for the blackberry for more accurate text messaging...

I've been using my Treo 650 for almost 2 years already. It was the best PDA phone at the time I bought it (in my opinion). The strongest contender then were Nokia 9500/9300 and O2 mini. I chose Treo and was glad I did. I'm quite disappointed with new Treo 680 and 700 series. Other phones in the same class have definitely better hardware. :-( So there has always been a temptation to shift to better 2MP+, Wifi-enabled, big memory PDA smart phones. [My favorite so far is Apple's iPhone (check it out www.apple.com/iphone)] Anyway, my overall experience with Treo 650 is excellent. The easy-to-use PDA function of Treo plus the thousands of available applications to choose from are primary reasons why I still LOVE my phone. :-)

You can use FileZ, a freeware downloadable from www.nosleep.net, or ZLauncher, a shareware downloadable from In FileZ, tap "View and Edit Files", then tap the files you want to send (can be any file---mp3, video, pics, apps), then tap "Send", Send with "Bluetooth". In ZLauncher, tap the menu, File Manager, tap the file you want to send, tap "Send", send with "Bluetooth". Good luck!

This phone/PDA has all the great features when the phone works correctly. We purchased a brand new unit in Oct. 2006, unlocked, and immediately we started having problems with the phone/pda reseting on its own or shutting off. We also ran into email problems prior to calling support. Support at Palm/Treo was called within two weeks of purchase...at least several times, each time them trying one type of reset or another type of reset. Nothing worked. The brand new phone was sent back in and replaced. Within 1 week of operating the replacement, we had similar problems, again called support and they reset they advised to reset the phone in a couple of ways. This happened another two times, and the final straw was the 1st week of Jan. 2007, the phone again started to reset on its own... while just sitting there, not being used, then the Bluetooth started to work funny. We tried another two cell devices to determine if the Bluetooth headset was working correctly and there were no issues with the other two brand of phones. What is disappointing the most is that I am not a huge time user of the phone or email. Probably 20 emails were sent successfully and maybe 200 minutes in total cell time in the two months of having the two Treo's. Support always want to do the same of two or three ways to reset and the problem still came back. It is a huge disppointment to spend the money for this PDA that has these consistent malfunctions. I also wonder why a Large Cell phone company in Canada no longer carries the GSM phone for sale? The support is superficial for those whom have used cell phones since inception. The questions they ask clearly make you wonder about the time and effort that went into engineering the Treo 650. In 18 years of having various cell phones/pda's... I have never experienced such a malfunction product with poor support to correct than the PalmOne Treo 650. Paul

1) No, I dun think it can produce Office documents, but it can edit them if u hv software like Documents ToGo. 2) This phone doesn't have WiFi, but a WiFi card is easily available. 3) In order to set MP3 as ringtone, u'll need 3rd party software. I'm currently using LightWAV Pro myself.

hi guys. i really look forward to buying this . but meanwhile i still love my 650 so much. i just found out that a software called SOFTICK BLUETOOTH GATEWAY which support bluetooth wireless music (A2DP) on my 650 from softick.com . and you guys can find more software from that site, such as one software called card export can use the memory card as a mass usb drive when connected using usb cable. and many other very useful software using bluetooth technology from treo650. i am gonna try out these software and buy a bluetooth sony stereo headset for wireless music. in case of fm radio and tv tuner on treo 650 you guys can buy some SDIO fm radio or tv tuner card ,have a look at this but make sure its compatible with your handheld.enjoy guys!

I've read most of the comment here, and i think most of friends here didn't know what is the true capability of the Treo. They didn't know what phone they truly need. If you have Treo, it means that you're already have an allround mobile phone. it's true that there're pro's and cons ( didn't all mobile phone did?). I have Treo 650 and it never let me down. If you want megapixel, buy a camera, if you want wifi, buy a true PDA, if you had bad reception, blame your provider, and if you want everything, buy a computer store...;-)

Great phone, after having used Sony Ericcson's P500, this is definately an upgrade. One little frustartion is the inability to sms Address Book items, i.e. you have to copy/paste the number from your address book to your message screen. But apart from that this phone is a winner.

I've had the Treo 650 for almost 2 years now. Great PDA and long battery life. Was not a great as a phone since my ear kept hitting the reset key until I bought the Plantronics Discovery 640 Bluetooth Headset. Great accessory and now I can place and receive calls without any problem.

excellent pda phone. it has the best office application (excel,word etc)display and tools features.battery life is absolutely acceptable (minimum 2 days).the draw back its not very solid on network as compared to nokia and goes for the boot but i guess that a protection mode. but otherwise as far as pda phone is concerened all the others like p910i, nikia comunicator etc looks like toys in front of treo 650. i would strongly recommend to anyone who uses office application and tasks feature and who doesnt travel much outside the town .

all phones use 160 characters in SMS and the confirmation is only for MMS, this is because MMS are send over internet, this is for all kind of phones. If you already have the treo 650 i'll not recomend the "update" for any treo 700.

I try with Treo 650 to find confirmation for the sms message but is not possible .It exist only for MMS. Another bad thing in treo 650 it is that sms are only with 160 characters. hi, the enfora wifi it does work with the treo 650, the screen is touch sensitive, for video recording there is an icon in the camera interface en the bottom left of the screen, it records in 176*144@15fps and 352*288@7fps in 3gp format. Saludos desde Mexico.

You have to install music through the Palm Quick Install software, or the real player desktop software. The music has to be written in the a format that the mobile real player can read and just transferring it to the memory card does not allow for this.

Everything works perfect on my Treo except that it does not recognize my SD card. I am sure hardware (machine and card) are ok. Anyone with same problem? Only 3rd party software I have on it is Citytime and eReader but these all worked on my Tungsten E and the Tungsten recognize the same SD card. Palm support can't help.

Yes, the treo can read/write/change word and excel documents. I've only tried Office 2003, but i expect other version work too. (Btw, the app is included with the Palm, but it doesn't have all the advanced features such as the spellchecker) Backlight, mine is even.... guess your's might be faulty? Just my 2c... JJ

I have owned the Treo 650 for over 4 months now and minus the random (and I do mean random) reboots, I love this phone. The memo's, texting, Real Player, Reception are all fantastic. I dropped the phone one time too many and have cracked the exterior, and yet the phone still has exceptional reception and sound. As well the camera and video for the size of phone are fantastic. Out of 5 Stars I would give it a 4.5 and highly recomend it for someone who is looking for a phone to work as a phone with a large number of additional features to make business smooth and easy.

The treo 650 is so far the best business tool that i have used so far. No phone is flawless, but in my opinion this phone rocks! Someone recently asked about wifi- look on the palm store website-there is a sd card that will do the trick, there is pocket tunes that I use that works great syncing up with windows media player for your music. Downs: Sudden re-boots, less than stated battery life, complicated blue tooth settings, hissing noise while on speaker phone, call drops, versa mail having probelms in reading Adobe attachments, address book cannot be organized by first and last name etc. Despite all of these issues i still think its a good value for money!

Hello Fellow Mobile Colleagues, Generally the Palm Treo 650 is an amazing device. So far, there is only one issue I have found that the phone is laking in. It is related to the phones alert features. Specifically, when you are away from the phone. If I receive a text message, a call, or a voice-mail, on my current phone while I am away from it, I will be notified by the led light flashing in a different colour and by the phone beeping. The led light will continue to flash and the phone will continue to beep, until I have cleared the missed call, missed text message, or mixed voice-mail. The Palm Treo 650 will not do this. If you are away from you phone and a text message, call, or voice-mail is received during that time, you will not be notified of it. The phone will not alert you that you missed something. The only way to see if you have missed something, is to turn the screen of the phone on. That gets very annoying. You will find yourself turning the screen on quite frequently, just to see if you missed something. If anyone has a solution for this issue, please feel free to e-mail me. Thanks -Telly

paul stewart, i'm afraid your carrier (virgin) only has the settings for your phone's browser & email setups. but u can also try to google it, like punching in 'treo 650 settings virgin' & see what comes up. i did my other pda phone this way. good luck

Hello! to everyone, Please i am a student and am soo crazy about this Treo 650. I really want to buy it, but when i tried it out, it was a bit complicated for me to use because it was my first time using a Treo 650. I really like the way the Treo looks and the way it works. I tried the one i wanted to buy, the battery was very low soo when ever i switch the phone on to charge the battery, it say that battery very low is shutting down in 25 seconds. I was a bit irritated about this issue, but apart from that everything works well i guess and the one i want to buy is a GSM version which is made in Taiwan and i hope it is a very good model type like the ones available in the market today. I think the problem is from the battery and may be if the battery is fully charged, the phone will be okay. I am a student and the reason why i want the Treo 650 is that it might be of good help to me in future with my studies(like presentation,email and research) and on the other hand i don't know whether it is only made for business people who want to check their emails, task and browsing on the move!!!!! PLEASE, PLEASE AND ONLY PLEASE, I really need all your advices and help whether to buy this phone or not and i don't want to make any mistakes or take any chances and end up regretting!!!!! I can't understand why some people think the antenna on the 650 put them off. The phone looks great as a package and the antenna is an integral part of a muscular device. If you want a girly phone look elsewhere or you may try the Blackberry which for me just looks so stupid I will feel ashamed if a friend holds a Blackberry standing near me. Yes, it has no antenna but would you want one? not for me. NO WAY! long live Treo.

Guys, please, its not Treo 670 anymore, already have officially name as Treo700W and will launch maybe arround 6 month in advance (I read in T3 magazine). Big W means it windows. I believe there is some software which allows you to have more control over the mp3, ringtones etc. By the way, I got a sony adaptor to go from cellular miniplug to standard plug to use standard headsets with the Treo....!!!! double cool...the best phone I have had ever!

TO erase all your contacts in your treo, the easiest way i can think of is to do a hard reset. Although it will erase all your messeges and settings, so hot sync you phone first b4 doing anything. Instructions on how to do hard reset can be found in the palm website. Finding information or asking questions about ur phone will probably be best to look at www.howardforums.com. Answer to the ques of making ur mp3 song as ur ringtone, the best software i found was treoguard.

I purchased the Treo 650 on eBay. The model which arrived was an unlocked Cingular. I inserted my sim card and think it a great phone and PDA, being someone who is used to the Palm software. However, I do not know how to make use of the internet browsing function or the email function My mobile phone contract is with Virgin (pay as you go) but I have received no sensible reply from them which addresses the issue. Can anyone assist please? Oh, for good measure, I should mention that I am an Apple user.

S.O.S. My new unlocked Orange Treo 650 is perfect except for one thing: it cannot read MP3 music files from my MMC/SD cards. It does read the Orange try card's video clip with no problem so it is not an issue with the audio set up. Can anyone help?

DO NOT GO NEAR THIS DEVICE or Cingular Wireless. In the past 6 months I have had three TREO 650's none of them have worked. The Phone sonund quality is extremely poor, they rest themselves all the time, and the buttons freeze up. I tired to report it to Cingular wireless they Blamed Palm, Palm blames Cingular. Mean while I'm stuck with a $400 Phone that is worth less and two companies that don't care.

I bought an unlocked Treo 650 as soon as I saw one - upgrading from a treo 270. It was perfectly reliable but after anout 7 months of trouble free use it was stolen, O2 my phone company no longer sell the treo and would only send a Sony 910i as "eqivalent". The Sony is poor in comparison, particularly as a phone :-) with an uneccesarily flash but unintuitive interface. I am going to buy another treo 650 - can't give a higher recomendation than that.

I guess the resets are due to older firmware. Mine works like a charm. Tons of apps, games, utils etc widely available, and very large user base and helpful community on the web. My two nags are not being able to assign ringtones without 3rd party app, and no SMS delivery reports. I suggest TAKEphONE and LauncherX apps for an even better user interface. PalmOS may be old, but works fast and is easy to use.

Hi Everyone, This is the best phone/ mini computer combination the world has seen yet (Aug 2005) I got mine last June, still I am crazy about this beauty. For the best experience with specially a Treo like mini computers these are the basics guys. Right away out of the box I know we are so eager to play with it but plz DO NOT do any fancy things at first. Do not install any additional software (be wowed you have at least 10000 software title at your disposal and growing for Treo)or sync it with the Palm desktop software right away. Just USE it as any other standalone ORDINARY PHONE for couplla days. Make calls, take calls, browse the net if possible, add, delete, cut a few contacts, memos, tasks whatever you please but all with the software comes pre-installed. Do not transfer your old PIM data either if you had had another old Palm. Live with your SIM contacts for couplla days. Don't get me wrong on this. This is the best phone/ mini computer in the world and treat it like one. Above is the proven best way to eliminate the phones which has come with manufacture defects or any other software conflicts if you get any. When you are absolutely sure that your new Treo phone is working like a phone only you start adding stuff and sync with the desktop. Get and install the latest firmware (1.28 at least). And stick with your most comfortable settings. Get a at least 1GB SD card so this can be a movie machine. Wow! This phone is great in concept and horrid in execution...I've had two and both had full share of issues already noted in blogs in 2005...soft-boots, hard-boots, lost data (requiring resyncing to desktop or laptop, which means forget traveling without your laptop for more than a day or two because it will surely crash!), camera that didn't work...I undertsand these issues are not part of Verizon Treo 650, but cingular offers international use, a must for me)...IF PalmOne could stabilize this device and eliminate the need to re-boot/re-synce every few days, then they would have a true winner! One note Palm...I've been told by more than one of your reps that there was a compatibility issue with Cingular/AT&T network...Why did you EVER bring this phone out without resolving that first?! The market prestige you will lose will offset the profits you are making in the long-run! Poor decision!!! Also note Palm, please allow users to have total control over menus in phone and main screen...speed-dial needs to accomodate more than one contact per letter as well... In summary, I gave it two trys with two different 650s and I've had enough headaches! I'm going elsewhere after years of using Palm PDAs! Hope the "670" (or whatever replaces the 650) is completely tested (successfully) before bringing out to market!!!!! May come back some day...You'll have to earn it though!

I waited and bought the TREO 650 for its bluetooth capability over the TREO 600 and its ability to work with ACT! Contact Management Database software. It does not work well with ACT!. Should I go back and downgrade to a TREO 600 and do without bluetooth?. I've heard the Blackberry's don't work well with ACT. I have 3,500 contacts that I would like to have on my TREO 650 or something similar. Your expert thoughts appreciated.

almost perfect??? there are still lots of available pda's to choose from... and this one?...it's like buying a HEADACHE! ok,you may upgrade your firmware... still the applications are incomplete. sad thing is that you have to buy the softwares you like...that costs much,with bugs or even no activation code. some fones has it all like SE P910 or nokia 6680..the one i'm using now cause treo 650 really dissapointed me. imagine the cost i've spent for a Headache! someone purchased my unit for a cheaper price of $535. i am calling the attention of palmOne...i need to hear your side please. lastly, i heard palmOne is changing their brandname to One? is that true? Its interesting I have been waiting for this Phone to come along for so long.I can say I was impressed with it when I first got it,but after a couple of weeks I was getting prepared to send Palm hatemail for producing a great piece of hardware with such shocking software.My phone suffered form every Problem i have read about on line.The resets,the phone switching off,constant soft resets,Bad blue tooth connections poor reception bad phone call volume.I downloaded every fault from the opinion pages and printed copies off, took them to the people I had purchased the phone off as proof that it was not just my phone.They sent it off to palm who loaded the very latest firmware for a GSM unlocked which according to the web site had just become available which was 1.13.My phone came back 1.14 The phone is almost perfect now.

i've already disposed mine at greenhills (while on fire)last saturday for 30,000 peso/$535s after using it for 5 days. i can not stand the constant resets every now & then and you have to buy softwares to satisfy your needs. i bought Photo resco viewer for $18 at palmfocus but to my dismay, it has no activation code. no attention was given when i e-mailed them. switched to n6680 instead. now i have no more worries!

Phone First: Big & (clunky) - wonderful-amazing screen, fast easy dialing, average to just below average sound quality, great reception, poor battery life, sub-par reliability (compared to other just-phone products). PDA: Palm - what's not to love. I miss the graffiti areas of the full-fledged palms, but otherwise the Treo 650 makes an outstanding palm: Screen, thumb-board, battery life and reliabilty (compared to other pda's). Smart-Phone: After trying all the others, this is by far the best. I prefer Palm of Windows Mobile largely due to the software and communiites that exist around the Palm platform. My treo has all the games and media apps you could want, but it is a true work horse for my professional life. No matter what country I'm in, it flawlessly logs in to the GPRS network, builds a VPN connection back to my corporate infrastructure, authenticates with Exchange, updates emails - with a touch of a single button or in a completely automated, scheduled fashion. I didn't have the time to get a PHD and learn how to do all of that on the Windows platform. Some corporate users might prefer the BlackBerry, but I prefer the great screen, flexibility to include private email synchronization and run any of the countless apps available for the Palm OS. In short: Great stuff!

lyn, you have to purchase a software to use your mp3 as ringtone.RingoPro mp3 is available at www.palmfocus.com for $29...however,it plays only 5 seconds of the assigned mp3 and not the whole song. check other software (trial,good for 15 days)to satisfy your needs. but if i were you,i'm goin to dispose it immediately...Treo 650 is a big HEADACHE!

got it at a whooping price of 39,900 pesos in manila. now i've been using treo 650 for 5 days...and i'm so DISAPPOINTED! - have to turn off brightness to be able to reach 3 days prior another battery charge - expensive softwares...i've puchased Photo Resco Viewer at www.palmfocus.com for $18 but what i got was a software without an activation code - installed ringo mp3 tone for $29 but the tone is limited to ring up to 5 seconds only - it has a free treo headset which costs 3,900 pesos but it's not working.when i called-up the store (complink, sm mega mall)fro where i got it, they referred me to their supplier instead of replacing it immediately...poor after sales service - you have to copy/paste inbox messages to saved messages...no another create folder - very small font - you have to purchase a software to read .gif files - no screensaver - i've installed mmplayer for divx files...it worked but the audio for newly taken videos VANISHED! - speakerphone is not so loud...i even got missed calls because of the cheap built-in speaker -no headset for mp3 player -you have to input contacts manually instead of copying from sim -sometimes my phone rings midi files instead of the assigned mp3 -installed some of my mtv video collections but it shows thumbnail size instead of full screen + easy text messaging + elegant design

I have been using my Treo 650 for three months, after using the SE 910 and O2, this is the absolute best so far. Did extensive international travel with it, using infrared keyboard, and took beautiful fotos which could be sent via GPRS networks. Superb.

DANGER !! DANGER !! DANGER !! The treo 650 is an invitation to "th mother of all migranes"... Unrilaible, frustrating, cumbersome... Bought one 10 days ago, so far I am on my 3rd device. Fried the first two witha runaway charger... so hot I had to use a wash cloth from the hotel (on the 2nd device). applications such as the camera only cause a reseting of the device... ABSOLUTELY no trust or faith on wether the device will work or not. Have missed lots of incoming calls... no reason, no voice mail... STAY AWAY FROM IT. Comming from tre 180-treo 270 treo 600, sony 910i, qtek909 and now treo 650. Summerise all treo devices workt just fine and did what they advertised. I tryed the pocket pc and this was nightmare, reseting, upgrating the eproms, installing reinstalling etc. Every day was thinking will my phone work yes or no, on each call you receive asking your self will this work with my headset (bt) or no. Actualy westing more time to put questions in stad of make or take the necessary phones. The main differense between the windows based phones and symbian/palm os is that the last phones/pda worked withous asking you if they go to do what they are suppose to do they just do. The difference between Treo 650 and the 910 of sony/ericsson is the keyboard is mutch better and personal i'm used to work with the palm. But to my point of vieuw there is for the time been no phone/pda that is works as good as the treo 650. Configuration took just five minutes no questions have been asked. It just worked from the very first time. Bt sound quality perfect. Perhaps the new phone from hp the hw6515 will bring even beter results but I stay on the fact that for the momment the treo 650 is perfect no resets no installing and reinstalling soft. it just works. Ps: I'm just a user and not worker at palm.

Treo 650 owner for 6 months Strengths Great battery life! 3days standby 650 has removable/replaceable battery QWERTY is VERY useful text messaging Good size and rugged Lots of good software out there. With 1Gig SD- this a great mp3 player Calculator convert EVERYTHING Fits in pocket comfortably EDGE speeds, although I've never used it and frankly don't use this for webbrowsing. Software is easier to use and more intuitive than other pdas. Weaknesses No w-lan Vibration is not strong enough The excel program, not user friendly doesn't include stereo headset, in fact stereo headset from treo is not cheap Not dumbproof occasional, 1 in 2wk, OS freezes so-so camera PDA phones are not perfect by any means but the Treo 650 is, in my opinion, the best PDA phone. The O2s and windows based phones have ridiculously low battery life. I dunno how I'd live without this phone now. Great calendar, I never miss appointments and meetings now, I listen to mp3s when I'm on the train, I practice writing chinese characters, I read ebooks. The damn calculator does everything, even finance. I don't use the web browsing much and I don't play games on my phone so I can't make any recommendations on that end.

I bought a treo 650 GSM unlocked a while ago. Terrible choice. Constant resets (4-6 times a day) WITHOUT any third party software installed. I have tried all of the suggestions posted by various communities but to no avail. I would not reccomend this phone to anyone.

Far from perfect, yet...as close as can be. Phone, calendar, contacts, documents on the go, email, SMS, MMS, Web, cam, video, and mp3 player....what more could you ask for? This is an excellent working tool for the contemporary business person. A tad bulky, but a small price to pay for a mobile office that fits in your coat pocket. Imagine what the 700 or 800 series will be like...rumours abound, they will be slimmer and not necessarily smaller, and better quality res for screen and cam. A solid performer, worth every penny if you demand and excellent business tool that offers it all.

The Treo 650 is a smartphone. Obviously it is MORE than just simply a phone like the Razr or a Nokia. To simply give up on it after one day of simple-minded use, as one poster here had done and "proudly" proclaim they had gone back to a V3 smacks of extreme foolishness or ignorance. I had migrated from a PocketPC to this, and I can truly say my Treo beats ANY existing smartphone on the market hands down. Yes, it's that good and if you can afford it, rush to the store and get one! P.S: my experience is resets occur due to software error 99.9 pct of the time. And after 3 or 4 days of using it properly, you'll start to wonder how you ever got along without it, I guarantee! :)

One day after I purchased my Treo 650, it started acting up. It would reboot and turn on and off in a continuous loop all by itself. I tried a soft reboot and a hard reboot, and even taking out the battery and putting it back in, and it still would be stuck in a loop of booting up and shutting down. I put a screen protector which comes with the Treo 650 box. The screen protector caused the touch screen pda to act up and not work, so I had to tak it off. Finally I took it back and purchased a Razor Phone which is amazing. I bought the Treo 650 because I had the Treo 600 for two years and was pleased with it. Even the 600 had it's problems with the headphone jack and the speaker not working. Stay away from Treo.

Hi guyz, Treo 650 is a nice phone with good design, no doubt that everyone likes it. I've find out the rediculous problem about this Treo 650. My customer called up and told me about the broken antenna. So I call up PalmOne and what they told me "You need to pay about $179 USD for a replacement unit ". What a stupid joke. Jz a small matter of the antenna and you need to replace a new unit. Even Nokia services are far.. I mean FAR more better than Treo 650 phones and Treo series. Services not that damn good, need to send to the sevice centre near by. What a stupid joke again... My last opinion, dun buy PalmOne phones or PDA, not good and waste a lot of time when sending for repair. Buy phones that gives you a lot of services like Sony or Nokia which easily available everywhere !!!! Sayonara PalmOne....

Hi treo maniacs, I am in Vietnam. I have been thinking about buying a Treo smartphone since last December. My need is to have a phone that allows me to check my emails too in a proper manner. Did not buy a 600 knowing that the 650 was to be released early 2005. Now my Sony Ericson T630 is dead and I need to buy it. Both models are now on offer here. The 600 @ $400, which seems a good deal and 650 @ $770, which is ... hard spending to digest... Still I can't decide. Buying the old one or the latest one... Appreciate your opinions. Thanks Sam

When ever using the phone or the net, the microwaves from the antena makes the unshielded speakers in the vicinitiy make a loud noise similar to morse code transmission. This happens even when the speakers are off. I suspect the strong signals from the antena make the speaker magnets vibrate. Any one else having a similar problem?

I used to own a Treo600. It's a great phone but with few shortcomings. I hope Palm people could read my mail and come up with better. 1. Improve the screen resolution to 252K 2. Camera at least 1.3 - 2 MP 3. Use metal alloy as casing to improve aesthetic value 4. Better ringtone and volume 5. Provides options for BT and Wifi. OK, with all these, it would be a PERFECT phone. Naturally, Px will also be quite high. Hope to see it as Treo680.

Only Treo 650 and P910 have keyboard on the phone so that you can use the phone with only one hand whereby you need to use 2 hands to operate a O2 phone. The camera although is lesser than 1MP but the result is pretty good, it is better that O2 mini when indoor.

Got my Treo 650 2 weeks ago after trade-in my O2 mini & P910. Think this is the best smart PDA phone in the market which have almost all I need. It looks ugly initially but its getting better looking now. It make me feel good because not many people carry tis phone, I am not worry to bang into a young school girls who are using the same phone like mine. This Treo 650 is truly for man only.

I've had the 650 since Dec. I love it! The only complaint I have is that the mic. is extremely sensitive. Currently there is a sftwr update on palmone to possibly help this problem. Otherwise it's well worth the money!!!

I've had my GSM Treo 650 for 6 weeks now, after upgrading from a Treo 270. I live in Sydney and haven't seen 1 other 650 in my travels. It's a good phone and organiser rolled into 1 unit, and the fact I have loaded a stack of mp3 files onto the 1GB SD card means I have eliminated carrying around my iRiver player. Internal memory is a bit stingy but you can load most things onto the SD card and they are cheap on eBay. I have no problems getting my email, but I don't use the browser function (cost related issue). I wish they'd get WiFi sorted out soon. The camera resolution is poor compared to some others on the market, but the little use I make of it returns OK results. A lot of people complain about quirky functions, but I have found they are usually related to third-party software not behaving properly. I couldn't live without Documents To Go, Backup Buddy, and Real Player (but no graphic equaliser...cheapskates!). I also use Ringo Pro to customise the ring tones. Bluetooth is great with my HBH 650 headset from SE, and I am a little tempted to order a Bluetooth keyboard for more serious work. Would love to hear from some other Aussies who have this Treo model.

The whole thing sucks. Though this new model thank god has a decent 320x320 screen, not like the previous which had sucky 160x160 screen. And that keyboard is of no use really, but it's still better than on SE P910i. I think the best choice for PDA-phone is still XDA II (Qtek 2020). XDA III is newer, but it's bigger and bulkier and it's keyboard is a totally useless piece of crap. Palm really can't make decent PDA-phones, just face it! HTC still makes best devices. Even the old XDA (Qtek 1010) beats this Treo 650! Sorry, but I know what I'm talking about...

it doesn't support wi-fi cards. you will need to d/l a crack in order to use it. palmone hasn't come out with a compatible wifi card.bummer.really nice looking phone with good functions though.

The lack of memory means this phone cannot be used for the serious business user that may have thousands of contacts. Palmone seems to have fallen asleep when there is a demand for a business phone with decent memory. Sack Palmones marketing department as they have comprised the phones abilities.

2nd day with the phone. It is not yet activated. But, from what I can tell it's awesome. It's easy to get used to, button lay out is good, wonderfull phone. And memmory is no problem. I bought a 152 MB card off ebay for 16 bucks, so if you don't like small memmory, go ebay. Wonderfull little phone.

I just one to say that this is by far the best phone. I have had the nokia 7710, SE P900, SE S700, SX1, Samsung D500 the screen broke by it self and a liquid start coming from the screen I don't know how. To be honest the treo 650 is a very comfortable phone and has everything I need and more.

This is a kickass phone. I went ahead & bought the CDMA version & couldn't be happier. I was going to wait for the GSM version but I just couldn't wait, and now I'm glad b/c Sprint's data is much faster & they doon't have near as many problems as Cingular does. The GSM model IS buggy & has a lot of problems. It was rushed out before it was thoroughly tested & I know many people who are on their 3rd & 4th Treos b/c of all the problems. So even though this is GSMarena, I suggest the CDMA Treo. I've had some bugs & random resets, but most problems are due to software incompatibility. Some software doesn't mesh well with the new filing system this phone implements. Oh- for previous Palm users- DO NOT sync your old Palm's data on to the Treo, it will crash hard & fast. Install programs one by one to ensure compatibility. Nothing's worse than getting stuck in a reset loop b/c of bad software & having to hard reset. Anyway- this phone has the best web browsing capabilities I've ever seen. It's fast & thorough. Call quality is superb, I've had only ONE dropped call in the entire MONTH that I've had it!!! Earpiece volume is loud enough that I have to turn it down most of the time(a first for me), and the speakerphone works great & is plenty loud. I havent really used any headsets so I can't comment on that yet. SMS is really neat- the Treo turns your msgs into a sort of chat window where you can view what the other person says & then what you say just like in a chatroom. There's really too many great features to describe so I'll just say it does just about everything awesomely. Bottom line- this phone gets a 98% on the phone test. It's lacking in some areas(NEEDS MORE MEMORY!!! 32megs, WTF?) but for the most part it's a serious winner. A sheer delight to use for both businessfolk & simple gadget geeks like me. If you get this phone- be sure to buy a case for it. It is small & slippery & if you are the slightest bit butterfingered you WILL drop it. I bought a pink silicone skin off eBay & I have not dropped mine since. One last thing, a tip- many people complain about the keyboard & the keys being too small. I found that even though I have petite feminine hands, typing was a big problem for me since I type with my thumbnails. The keys are hard plastic & have no 'grip' to them, making it very easy to slip & hit two keys at once. If you have this same problem, do what I did- Go to WalMart & buy 1/8 yard of clear upholestery plastic(usually 98 cents a yard). Cut it to fit over the keyboard & tape it on so that it is stretched over the keyboard(make sure the tape doesn't extend over the battery cover). This will protect your keyboard from renegade droplets of liquid & also give the keys some grip. I type twice as fast now. BTW only do this if you have a case that covers up the tape, or else you'll look stupid with tape & plastic all over your phone. Hope you enjoyed reading yet another of my long-winded reviews, and if anyone has any questions about this phone, feel free to ask me!

The Treo is the most mature smart phone, get it if you want the least problems. Also it's the most cross platform smart phone.. supports both MACs and PCs. Mac users... don't even blink.. better interface than wondows mobile, can isync. Unfortunately not all Symbian phones do not support isync. Check apple.com/isync for a list of devices. If you want to use the Treo as a Bluetooth Dial Up Modem for your Mac portable, wait for the TMobile Treo650. The Cingular Treo 650 is crippled and cannot act as a Bluetooth DialUp Modem without purchaSing $pecific extra data plan$$$. _
