Panasonic GD87 - User Reviews

  • WOW! Video recording in a phone from 2002! This is very impressive! :O

  • 0.1MP camera?

  • Great phone for me. We were partners in 2006:) Very good quality photos due to time of released this phone. I remembered that this phone didnt show name of people which sent you sms, only their number. But still great.

  • i have panasonic gd87.i saw that gd87 has loudspeaker[open hearing].Why you wrote ''LOUDSPEAKER NO''???

  • to transfer pictures to a pc i use infra red

  • I don't think the email function works on this phone. Mine has a computer-phone cable where you can put pictures direct onto the computer. Did you get this cable when you bought the phone?

  • can anybody tell me how to email the pictures in the data folder exactaly what i need to do otherwise ill lose some good old pictures.

  • I got this phone and it had kick ass camera back then. i got it for rs. 32k at that time and after 2 years i sold it for rs. 4k. it was the best thing i had back then.

  • Guyz this was my 1st cell phone. I purchase it on 24/dec/2003. it was a very nice set. it went out of order in jan/2008. when it fell into battry burst due 2 over chrgng.........

  • I have a problem with this phone.i have a few years since i didn't use it and now when i inserted the sim card in the keypad is locked.I tryed to unlock it but i think i forgot how to do that. Can you tell me how can i unlock the keypad? Thanks!

  • i m using this phone since february 2004. i really love it. a very easy to use phone with all required features.

  • my phone cannot have an access to wap,mms please help me

  • how can u get it work with the 3g card

  • Had one from new, still going strong. Passed it on to an 83 year old family member, who finds it easy to use, fun and very useful. Quality never goes out of style. Great phone!

  • love this phone...dropped it a million times and its still going strong! the battery life is very long and i wish it wasnt discontinued :(

  • I tried putting a new 3g sim card into this phone and the phone says "insert correct sim card". I have an old sim card that has not been active for a very long time that works on this phone...until i get reception and then it goes into emergency call mode. Do I need to unlock it? do a master reset? Anyone have any suggestions?

  • This has a perfect camera on it and you can run a 3g sim card of it. Runs beautifuly and one of the best.

  • indeed...

  • hi, i'm finding it very difficult to open the page for panasonic GD87e phone manual.

  • I have this phone! i so content with it because i've dropped it...a lot! and even though this phone is old it still runs good and strong. Only thing i dont like is its non-expandable memory. =]

  • this phone is already 5 years since announced and lauched. i just wanted to take great view of those great innovations given by the phone manufacturers SE, Nokia, Samsung, Panasonic and Siemens and motorola which shocked all users back in the year 2002... seems like it's good looking back the history!

  • hi... my cousin gave me a GD87e. im looking for a user's manual coz im having a hard time figuring the phones features. its a great phone if you know how to use it to its max. does this phone have upgradable memory like nokia?

  • I've had this phone for more than 2 years, it still works, although I dropped it many times.. it's so strong! advantages: good photo quality 132*176 pixel screen IrDA, ergonomic keypad disadvantages: photo size is very low: (132*176 pixels) low memory: 1 MB menu not userfriendly

  • I have a gd87 and the photo quality is out of focus, no matter what settings i change....its sooo pointless it having a camara when no matter what you do the subject of your photo is blurry. Sometimesit wont wont send texts, and then i have to retype the whole text again as it doesnt keep what you typed in its memory. Keep having to flick through character sets just to put numbers in a txt is annoying. I dont use anyother features on it... phone book is way to fancy for my needs.... i just want long names and phone numbers..and possibly streetaddress.

  • what type of ringtones can i get on gd87 instead of the tacky ones that are on there

  • ve been wit this mobile and i didnt find out how to display d time in d sub display.. can any1 help??

  • ve been wit this mobile and i didnt find out how to display d time in d sub display.. can any1 help??

  • im using this referals of phone in Mozambique but i not using internet.

  • so hard to txt! in fairness, the resolution is so good!the camera is superb!

  • i have had my GD88 for 3 years now and it still serves me its purpose. i can send sms and mms and make and take calls! if anyone wants something more fancy then go ahead and but the latest phone. lives of cellular phones depend partly on the handling of the owner. it is just sad that it doesnt have bluetooth. thanks for reading!

  • Please, do not buy this phone. I implore you. When I first got it, I loved it. It was the most advanced cell phone out of all of my friends. Then, slowly it started lagging; there would be a 3 second delay when you used the keys. Then reception would just simply dropped out, where it had worked fine before with my previous phone. And, the battery now barely lasts the day, if I forget to charge it over night, it won't even last through out the morning. DO NOT BUY THIS PHONE!!!!!

  • This was my first phone.... it was fantastic!! Great battery, good screen, everything I needed when I was about 15!! 6280 now.... much better (great actually!) but I miss the cool zippo-esque sound it made when you opened/ closed it!! Just bein sentimental....

  • the GD87 is not a video phone. firstly it has no sufficient memory for the phone ~1MB and secondly the camera lens is not a video lens. The closest thing to video you can have in this phone is animated Gifs which will play with no sound. or alternatively slideshow in the mms option. hope it helps. singing ....

  • can some one please tell me how to use the video on the panasonic GD87? i have one but init, iam seing only the photo camera not not the video.and how to add games in it. [email protected]

  • bloody hell video in that old day and age shows wot panasonic are capable of

  • When I first bought this phone, it wouldn't charge or turn on. I took it back to get checked, and they fixed it so then it worked. After 7 months, it stopped working again, and I got it fixed under warranty. About 9 months later, it stopped working and I gave up on it. I bought a cheap LG phone to use, and then my phone contract finished a while later, so then I just got a new phone. Maybe it was just a problem with my phone, but I take total care of it - there was only 1 scratch, so I don't think it was a problem with the way I was using it.

  • The menu on this phone and all the other panasonic phones are so smooth and nice, compeared to others..I have never had a problem with the network, so obvioulsy that has something to do with your network service..

  • This is the best phone I have ever owned..I've had it for allmost 4 years now..Over that period I have dropped it in water, in the floor, down the stairs, opened bottles with it and it still is the BEST Phone ever..all the other mobiles from other lables get broken allmost just when you thouch the screen!!I love Panasonic I will Always use panasonic, so I have to get a new and good one..got my eyes on the VS7

  • i have been using this phone for the past few months (it was a gift from som1), it was used ofcourse . The phone's camera and stuff is ok! but the rest is not , the network is big problem everytime i enter a building i get a notice "Searching for network" , but anyways it's ok for showoff , but it's even huge so i rate it 7/10 . :)

  • The GD87/88 seems to have as many fans as critics, and both equally sure that they're right... ;-) If you've gotten a good one (meaning no bugs, lemons, fakes) then chances are it's lasted long enough to be considered a good value. For some reason, though, for a long time there was a price premium on this phone that was unjustified (other comparable phones weren't quite so expensive). In any case, considering this was one of the first true 'camera phones', it wasn't just a novelty item, but actually a decent phone in it's own right. The screen, by the way, was and perhaps still is, one of the best out there. What would I change about this phone? Earpiece volume has been often criticized as being too low and hollow. If you live outside major urban areas, the reception might leave something to be desired too. Bluetooth was avaible when this phone came out, but sadly was not included. Would I buy this phone again? Yes, because it has served me well for 4 years, I like the way it looks even today, no significant problems have arisen, and I've put SIM cards into it from Asia, Canada, Europe and the Middle East hassle (and contract) free. Thanks for reading...

  • I want melody Irani

  • I've had my GD88 since Dec.02 and it's been so reliable. Even through dropping the phone, all software remains sharp. I believe the accessibility of the menus are much easier than the competitors' phones. The camera still holds its quality next to those new overpriced ones on the market.

  • Re: chander and abdul, memory on the GD87 is pretty bad. only 1Mb. howver this is split between the mms, sms the data folder etc. regrading the software for this phone refer to my earlier messages.data cables. many high street stores such as carphone warehouse, dixons link, phones 4u etc.. sell them these are in the UK.

  • note that tyhe GU87 is the same as the GD87. its just the US version (as far as as I am aware)

  • Panasonic does software for this phone. you can download it from their website. they dont make it obvious and it took me around 30 mins to find it through google and other websites. Panasonic are being real bastards. ( pardon the french) but here is the address for the PC editir tool. hope it helps.

  • This mobile fone is durable...but... Not user friendly... imagine when browsing the name in your fonebook, you need to scroll until you get the name you want...unlike in nokia... what a stuff... camera is good...but you can't develop it... it pixelised. Where can i find the housing for this unit? please help me

  • On a scale of 1 to 10, I give it 8 for the camera, sound and display qualities. Can anyone please tell me where I can get full housing replacement online? And also what does the cellphone icon on top of the phonebook icon (bottom left hand corner) mean? How to get rid of it?

  • Whare can I find panasonic user manual?

  • this phone is crap!!! it does not have video support like it is said in the spec,or i`m so stupid that i did not found it.it`s crap!!!

  • Could anybody send me the operating instructions for the GD88 as i have just bought it from the pawn shop & cant work all the functions thanks

  • Very nice looking phone! The main difference between this cellphone and the Samsung V200C is that it DOES NOT have the choice of answering or not answering a call just by opening the cellphone. ie. with the Samsung V200C you can set it to answer the call if you OPEN the phone or set it up so it prompts you "accept / reject" call.

  • I have a panasonic gd 87 and my opinion is that it is one of the most lasting phones ever.I'ts verry good made, from good materials and the only problem that cold appear is the change of case after a long time use! Good job Panasonic ! Keep it up !

  • Nice phone, but sending texts is VERY awkward indeed!!!! Compared to my Nokia 3510i, there seems to be a lot of un-neccessary key pressing!

  • outstanding phone, but its length is bit to much and thts y weight of upper part is more than other flip phones which tends to loose the flip

  • The GD87 looks pretty and stylish, yet when it comes to using it, it's a different matter. The menus are poor and complicated, the text messaging options are pathetic and ocassionally (too often) the phone crashes just as a computer would. It seems like this phone was put out in the market before research on its functions was concluded. I highly recommend you buy a different phone.

I think i can be helpfull for the new buyers of this phone so e-amil me to help you! The battery: 2-3 days, but this is usual for a fone with lcd tft display. Again, you can ask me anything!

  • I want to connect my phone with PC

  • Its a big phone

  • Hallo, I just bought a GD88 but the instruction manual is not very clear...I heard that we cannot attach the person's photo into a picture phonebook so that when the person call his photo will be shown...can anyone tell me how to do that ?

  • I bought the phone for almost a week. Th battery life is just too short. Well, the photos I captured are poor. So....err....buy others

  • Nice photo telephone

  • the phone is wonderfull but there are 4 problems 1.I cant get java games(if anyone knows somwhere i can please contact me) 2.When i edit things for a person in the phone book e.g, there pic, tone, sub lcd it just wont save it never does 3.I have saved many pics all cost between 6000 and 10000 bytes (fine) but now i am close to running out of space and the last 5 or so pics i take, take up between 23000 and 26000 bytes each so it wastes memory 4.The battery is totally crap and it turns itself off sometimes (anyway if anyone can help me please contact me because the panasonic people dont help atall atall) ps polyphonic ringtones on it rock!

  • it should of played videos like the nokias

  • I see that it's a good cellfone(GD87)but there isn't bloothoot inside.

  • That is a great phone !

  • I ahve had this phone for over a year now, it can STILL boast to have the best camara on a phone, on the market. It is better than all the new nokia phones and beats the pants of sony ericson handsets, and samsung may as well just give up now. I have never had any probs with it but sometimes it turns itself off which is a common fault with phones over a year old. anyway I love to send pics of my large hairy feet with this phone, it can capture all the phonicals with great clarity. Anyways me and gandalf are off now for a secret love session. buy this phone now. its great .

  • I feel screwed by the performance of this phone. I have it for almost a half year. The last days the phone fell out for no reasons. It happens many times. And I worked at a retarded home full of morons. This house is located far from the daily living world and half of the time there was no connection while stupid Nokia's where connected al the time. I really feel f*cked by this high end phone at the moment. Next time I buy Samsung or another exotic phone from the far east. No stupid Eskimo phone or German phone, due 'things' that happened in the past.

  • the best buy ever

  • send me more info please

  • Love this phone!

  • Its camera is great even beter than the samsung E700. gOOd fOne.

  • the gd87 memory is 1Mb so u can store about 44 pictures, jpeg fine!very good resolution for the camera,in fact is the best camera for a mobile phone(I've seen nokia and samsung cameras and they really suck!!!)I hate the green light of the keypad-so out of fashion!!

  • it's a beautiful phone but after using it for quite some time, problems starts and it can't download tones

  • Its a great phone. Its Camera is perfect. It has a exelent tft screen and good poly tones. Simply i Love it.

  • I have had a GD87 for over a year now. It keeps turning itself off /not reading the sim card, this is due to the terrible battery/simcard design (and not a dirty sim card). The sim is just held in by the battery as opposed to a seperate clip.... Games... (doesn't support Java), therefore, there are none that i know of, apart from Herding those damn sheep! No bluetooth...and apart from a really simple software program to save your mobile numbers onto your p.c. there doesn't seem to be any other software at all...Oh, and it doesn't accept business cards. On the Plus side, it doesn't slow up at all, unlike the sony's and some of the Nokia's. I'm afraid i've gone back to the universally accepted Nokias now!... Looks nice though!

  • Hi, i have a panasonic GD87, infact i was the second one in malta to have this kind of phone! its the best phone i have ever had and probably the best ever! thanks for everything yours sinceraly steven ciantar

  • This phone is a little big, but still good. well, when u get it, than get it at u.s. much cheaper than h.k.

  • can you guys help me out, im thinking of buying a new mobile, choosing between N 7650 and SE gd88. thanks!:)

  • is it true that when you received a message, the first line of the message is displayed and not the name of the sender?

  • I have the usb port on my panasonic gd88 (Fone Data Suite) and I only have Herding Sheep. How do I get Tetris and other games? Also, does anyone know of a website where I can download more games? Thanks.

  • what game is included in gd88 anyone? I have a feeling i was sold a second-hand unit. Mine has two games. Herding sheep and Tetris. please reply those who know.

  • Got my gd88 yesterday. having problems with wap since my carrier mostly supports nokia phones. have to use their wap site. nothing else. battery life could be better. drains quick. very nice-looking and functional phone.

  • the best phone ever i just got it 2day it is a "g" phone blad. wicked!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

  • how much memory does it have?

  • what's the battery life like? mine sucks 48 50 hrs tops!

  • its a wonderfull phone,i can say..altought the keypad is old style..they could create a better sublight for it...my opinion!!

  • I have brought the GD 88(asian version) few weeks ago, its a damn good phone it have a lot of features u need.. the only bad point is that the sound of the camera can't b turn off and it don't support java and bluetooth...

  • still the most sort sfter phone on the market. Does the job and does it in style.

  • i want 1 but does it work in the dark hammy

  • Jonas Karlsson (23 September 2003) seems to think the use of sexual swear words in his review is OK. It's not. Site manager(s) should act to curb or delete his inappropriate input.

  • I read that one person says that the Samsung V200 is much better than this Panasonic jewel. Well, let me say this; Samsung is in my eyes a very unreliable brand because I've had some Samsung stuff. Since I'm using Panasonic products, especially GSM's, I haven't any problems. The GD87 has all the features you need, the design is really cool and the built quality is the best. And, there's more on the way from Panasonic! Be different and go for Panasonic!

  • It can be storet allmost 200 images with the picture format JPEG Normal.

  • I think it is a really nice mobile. It isn`t slow and it got a good color screen. In a scale 1-10 I give it 9. I don`t give it 10 because it dont have Java or bluetooth.

  • I cannot get the 200 memory in phone on my GD87,I only have 20 on the sim card.....can anybody help???

  • To sUpRaGiRl, you are seriously super stupid. The phone is fantastic! I've had mine for over 5 months now and it is without any problems! The only flaw is that it is not Java and the lack of games. The new model is Java, Bluetooth and has a flash light. For the GD87/88 it's a fab and reliable phone for it's 5 months age.... obviously its superseeded now - but still is 65K color screen and it's build quality is above many others in the range.

  • crappy phone- * lacking in features ie profiles, caller groups, call barring for certain profiles/groups, colours are limited (orange blue n green only), etcetc. * picture to attach to phonebook is MINUTE, small, TINY! * only two games, no pause w/ tetris either * when the phone's on silent the alarm clock doesnt ring at all. it only rings when the ringtone is on, which is useless for me coz i turn on silent mode when im sleeping, and i would like to be woken up by my alarm thank u! over all... if anyone's looking for more features rather than just a camera to play w/ (which btw DRAINS UR BATTERY LIKE THERE's NO TOMORROW), i highly recommend SE T68i (my old fone.. i miss it) bluetooth, LOADS of features, u can bar diff ppl w/ in diff profiles, too much to list

  • this is a great phone from panasonic, regarding former edition. but i heard that it had lack of features. what made it looks good only the 65k screen and integral camera.

  • Ok Bethann, go to panasonicmobile.com Skip the intro, select Europe region, then English, then support at top of page, then operating instructions then select phone, then either English (Generic) or English (Vodafone) and you get it in a PDF format. Hope this helps. It's piss easy if you bother to look.

  • which site is the english manual for the panasonic GD87/88 available. or is it possible for u to email with this manual.

  • Theo:- Use Data Folder/Browse/Picture menu then you can either delete it as you view it, or from the the picture list, using the pop-up menu.

  • Great phone. Just love it. Maybe someone can help me. How do you delete photo's after it's been saved. The manual dont say.

  • Simply awesome....that's all I can say.

  • I have had this phone for a month and it's awesome. I complete package - thanks Panasonic for setting the standard in mobile phone technology and reliability!

  • U can use MIDIfiles on it from web or midiKeybord

  • It's probably easier to xfer data via IrDa than use a cable. Incidentally, you can also use the GPRS facility in this way - take your laptop, point your GD87 at it and go surf...

  • This is really state-of-the-art from Panasonic! The best mobile phone on planet earth!!!

  • GD87 or s-55 which one is worth to buy. Compare with price and quality. Also does 87 have PC connection?

Cannot utilise active folder to answer/end calls Keypad lacks tactility - also keypad being too level with the phones case Sales package (should contain): 1 x GD87/88 handset 1 x lithium-ion battery @ 720 mAh (EB-BSD87S) 1 x fast travel charger (EB-CAD95 variant) 1 x GD87/88 user guide 1 x warranty card -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Overview If youre looking for a mobile phone with an integrated camera, Panasonics GD87 and GD88 (designations for Europe and Asia-Pacific markets respectively) will blow you away - a far cry when compared to other currently-available, camera-compatible phone models! Its not just because it has a built-in camera - but also the list of improvements that are packaged with this handset that takes the cake. Read on to find out! :) New/outstanding features For avid Panasonic users, you would have already noticed a couple of differences and innovations introduced onto the GD87/88. Starting off from the outside, the GD87/88 is Panasonics first GSM-based model to be encased in a clamshell footprint, with its size being slightly larger than some other folder-based models. A set of 5-way navigational keys has been adopted instead of the joystick, since it is a clamshell-based phone and where depth needs be maintained at a minimum. Also, the integrated camera and IR port are located on the phones top face along with the outer sub-LCD and shutter key (for the camera). Feature-wise, the GD87/88 is also the first phone to be equipped with tri-band compatibility (GSM 900/1800/1900 MHz) which means it can be used in most countries that offer GSM networks - including North American ones! The TFT colour screen colour emits fabulous graphics at around 65,000 colours providing for a rich GUI (graphical user interface) and user experience as well! Physical aspects One of the good things about the GD87/88 is that the dilemma on size has been addressed, given that it comes with an integrated camera. With the lens conveniently located at the top of the front cover, pictures can be taken either with the GD87/88 opened (with the colour LCD screen acting as the viewfinder) or closed (using the self-portrait mirror positioned below the camera lens, and pressing on the shutter button below the sub-LCD). If youre wondering what that black patch is below the shutter button, thats actually the infrared (IR) port allowing communications with another mobile phone device or compatible PC device. A LED indicator is located below this, indicating certain phone statuses such as charging a battery (still red), incoming call/message (flashing green), and taking a picture (still green). The shutter button also has a blue light, which fades in and out slowly when a call is active. Working our way into the phone, the colour LCD screen utilises the entire area of the top folders inside, while a very well spaced-out keypad provides good usability for people of any sized hands. As mentioned previously, the traditional 5-way joystick used on recent Panasonic models (GD68/75/95) has been replaced with a set of 5-way navigational keys instead. You may notice an additional key below the standard 12-button keypad, which is a quick access key for WAP services located just under the star (*) key. With the GD87/88 being either opened for general use or closed to just hold in your hands, its overall sizing makes it all that pleasant to hold and use. Enlarge User Interface & display An outstanding feature of the GD87/88 is its internal, rich colour display. With the ability to display up to 65,535 colours, the TFT LCD screen produces some of the most vivid images and will beat any current GSM model phone with a colour screen on brightness, clarity and sharpness. Information displayed on its screen came out good in most lighting situations - whether in a dark room or under the sun. But a big issue with TFT-based screens is the inherent problem of energy consumption. When compared to other type of screens, TFT comes on top for being a good display but also good in quickly draining its power source. Fortunately, Panasonic has included a brightness control feature that provides three brightness settings (dim, normal, bright) for general use which can ultimately affect overall battery times. This is in addition to the backlight timeout feature, and the display ultimately turning off after a period of inactivity. On the outside, the sub-LCD supports for up to two lines of information (top line used for signal, battery and charging indicators; bottom line for text info - such as caller ID, missed calls/waiting messages, etc). During standby, either the current date and time or status icons are displayed with the top line indicators. To swap between these two different displays, simply press the camera shutter button. Finally, the sub-LCD supports up to three different backlight colours (blue, green, orange), where different colours can be designated for different functions (for example - incoming calls, SMS and MMS messages, etc). The GD87/88 adopts a similar user interface (UI) as its predecessor models, with the biggest difference being the high quality graphics used for the main menu and the ability to physically display a greater level and amount of information. This is all thanks to its high-resolution TFT colour display. General navigation is all through the set of 5-way keys plus the two soft keys. While the standby screen is displayed, pressing the left soft key will bring up the phonebook feature; while the right key can have a specific function preset to it (this can be changed under the phones Personalise function). And holding down the centre button on the 5-way keys gives the option of code-locking the phone or activating the keyguard (which I doubt most people would need to use on a folder-based phone). I found the responsiveness of the GD87/88 being somewhat improved compared to some of its predecessor models. This becomes less frustrating for those individuals who just skim through their phone menus. Making and receiving calls Three cheers for Panasonic in making their first folder-based GSM handset. But unfortunately, this was one of the areas that I had some concerns about. Starting off with the GD87/88s inability to answer and end calls by simply opening and closing the active folder respectively, this becomes an inconvenience for many that may have taken this feature for granted on virtually all other models that has this. I agree that some people dont use this, but it would have been a good idea to include an on/off option for this. To my surprise, because of this missing ability, a user would be able to automatically mute the caller when he/she closed the folder during a call, and can resume the phone conversation by simply opening up the phone where muting is disabled. With the speakerphone feature enabled, you can actually conduct the call either with the folder open or closed. For both these situations, the camera shutter button will emit a blue light that fades in and out, indicating a call is currently active while the clamshell is closed. Moving along to the ergonomics of the GD87/88, I found it a bit difficult to properly position the phone against my ear for maximum audio comfort. Even when I worked out the best way to hold the phone, the earpiece audio did not provide sufficient volume in noisy environments - which required me to push the earpiece closer to my ear than I would like it. I also found the bulge of the phones active folder hinge to be slightly too big, causing possible discomfort during long telephone conversations. Lastly, I found the performance of the speakerphone feature to be average only. Out of the calls that I conducted with this feature, a large proportion of those people commented on lack of volume on my end and poor clarity even in a quiet room. Messaging As most may know, the GD87/88 supports the multimedia messaging standard (MMS) - another first for a Panasonic GSM phone. This makes the integrated camera that much more useful, where you can take those pictures and send them off straight away! Of course, you can spice up MMS messages by including sound objects, and also have the ability to change the colour of the text and background as well. Not forgetting to mention that basic SMS text messaging and SMS Chat are supported on the GD87/88. But a minor problem I did have with the GD87/88, and with some other Panasonic phones alike, is the lacking responsiveness of the T9 predictive text function. It does buffer keypresses when a person types faster than what is being fed out onto the display. But after a while, when youve reached the limit of that buffer, you will only know it when misspelt words become apparent. One suggestion to those fast T9 typists would probably be to slow down. Build quality The GD87/88 overall build quality was solid - from the actual folder hinge right down to the joints between the different covers. With the clamshell closed, the phone sat nicely in the palm of my hands where its weight sort of contributed to its high levels of sturdiness. Battery life I was quite happy with the performance of its 720 mAh lithium-ion battery given that it needed to power the TFT LCD screen. As it comes in a clamshell design, this meant that the display can be switched off when it was closed up or after a long period of inactivity - which provided the majority of the energy savings. On average use, I was able to obtain approximately 2-3 hours talking time and 2-3 days standby. Major features... Tri-band compatibility (GSM 900/1800/1900) Worldwide compatibility with GSM networks is virtually guaranteed with the GD87/88, which now comes with support for the three major GSM frequencies used through Europe and Africa, Asia-Pacific and North American regions. The GD87/88 is the companys first phone to come with the capability - and certainly wont be the last! First Panasonic GSM phone with clamshell design and dual displays The GD87/88 is the first Panasonic phone to come in a clamshell footprint, along with the convenience of two LCD displays - a 2-lined black-and-white sub-display on the outside of the clamshell, and a 65K-colour screen acting as the phones primary display on the inside. External sub-display with multiple backlight colours When the clamshell is closed, the external sub-LCD display provides information such as current battery and signal levels, date and time, missed calls and awaiting messages, and any relevant information on specific functions (for example, taking pictures with the GD87/88s cover closed). A choice of three colours is available (blue, green, orange) for the backlights which can be assigned to different indicators (for example - messages, calls, etc). Very sharp and bright, internal 65K-colour TFT LCD screen The GD87/88 comes with a high-resolution, 65,535-colour TFT LCD screen which produces very rich and vivid graphics - being consistent all the way up to the displaying of photos! Even the graphics used in menus seem to look so much better than those of other phones with colour screens as well! Take a closer look! Built-in camera with special effect functions One of the main attractions of the GD87/88 is, of course, the integrated digital camera at the top of the front folder. You can take pictures with the clamshell opened (using the colour screen as a viewfinder) or take a self-portrait by simply using the mirror below the lens to see what it would look like when taken. Several special effect functions are available, including twilight mode (improves picture-taking in low light situations), close up mode (Macro mode), effects (Sepia, Monochrome or Negative/Positive), adding a frame to the picture (up to 10 available), and delay timer. The GD87/88 supports a variety of JPEG quality and PNG image formats. GPRS compatibility - accessible via WAP or external PC device Internet connectivity over GPRS is supported by the GD87/88, which can be utilised by either the built-in WAP browser or an external PC device via data cable or IR (data cable accessory sold separately). SMS/MMS/e-mail messaging compatibility The GD87/88 comes with support for mobile-based messaging services, including the traditional text messaging (SMS, SMS Chat) and multimedia messaging (MMS) functions - as well as Internet-based email compatible with the POP3/SMTP protocols. GPRS makes sending/receiving MMS and email messages a true reality thanks to its higher data speeds. Polyphonic ringing and message tones - with built-in ringtone editor A 16-tone polyphonic speaker provides for the musical element of the GD87/88, providing for the MIDI-based ringing and message tones of the phone and also sound effects used for keypad tones too. While MIDI files can be loaded onto the GD87/88 for the purpose of ringtones (via IR or WAP downloads), a built-in ringtone editor is still available should you want to create traditional monophonic tones. Button on the outer cover to activate voice memo features or camera shutter Theres a little button between the sub-LCD and IR port on the front cover that can be used either to activate the voice memo (recorder) feature or as the camera shutter button when the camera function is activated and the clamshell is closed. In the camera situation, Camera On will be displayed on the sub-LCD followed by Captured immediately after the shot has been taken. Handsfree speakerphone feature A traditional feature of Panasonic GSM phones is the handsfree speakerphone feature, which allows calls on the GD87/88 to be conducted without the need for it to be held up to the ear and face by its user. The handsfree speakerphone can be used with the folder opened or closed. Picture phonebook with multiple entries feature The GD87/88 comes with a picture phonebook feature where photos can be attached to the relevant entries. A variety of information can be entered into the built-in phonebook in addition to the standard telephone number - including an email address and special note. You can also assign a specific ringtone, sub-LCD colour and caller group for each individual entry as well! Voice dialling and memo capabilities Voice functions, including number dialling and memo/Dictaphone, are available on the GD87/88. For the memo/Dictaphone function, the phone can support up to 4 memos each with a maximum length of 14 seconds. Wallpaper support Whats a colour screen without wallpaper eh? Especially on the GD87/88, which does this immensely well thanks to the top-notch colour screen it has. Given the unique resolution of the screen, its a good idea to use a picture taken by the phones camera and use that instead. The GD87/88s screen displays photos quite well. Data folder browser - allows management of certain phone data Looking something like your Windows file manager, the GD87/88 comes with a Data Folder feature which allows you to browse data saved on your phone as if it was your PCs hard drive. For those familiar with directory tree structures and folders, its a good way of sorting images and MIDI ringtones into their rightful places. If you are weary of this, dont worry - not at all hard to use! When assigning ringtones and wallpapers on the GD87/88, the Data Folder browser feature is utilised. Built-in PIM functions The GD87/88 comes with a set of basic PIM (personal information management) functions, including a month-view calendar, built-in phonebook with multiple data fields, voice memo, calculator and currency converter. Problems/Issues? Cannot utilise active folder to answer/end calls As mentioned previously, one of the annoying things with the GD87/88 was the inability to answer and end calls with the convenience of the active folder. Wouldnt it have been a good idea if an option to enable/disable the active folder for calls was to be available? Well, Panasonic didnt think so this time round with the GD87/88! Keypad lacks tactility - also keypad being too level with the phones case Another small concern I had with this phone was the lack of tactility in the actual keypad - in combination with the flatness of the keys with the phones casing. When you brush your thumb over the entire keypad, you can barely make out whether you are going over buttons or not. This keypad problem becomes even greater when you start using T9 with it - as I found it slightly harder than usual in trying to differentiate the individual buttons from each other. Finally, the lack of depth in the buttons somewhat contributes to the poor tactility and the user experience of the keypad. In Summary There are many Panasonic firsts with the GD87/88. Some of those were pretty impressive (tri-band compatibility, 65K-colour TFT LCD), while there was the odd exception that seriously needs looking into (clamshell design with no option to enable answer/reject using the active folder). But when you consider the GD87/88 on an overall basis, it does show that Panasonic has successfully brought out a great product that many will find it to be a great phone to have. The biggest selling point of this phone, in my opinion, is the fantastic colour screen plus the integrated camera feature - all in this properly-sized clamshell! :)

  • as far as i know u can only download games if u have the GD87e which is only on orange also does anyone know if uu can put ringtones on to the phone using a data cable???

  • Just bought my GD87 a week ago, and all I can say is : damn, this is one hell slick looking gsm with wonderful features. Everything looks top quality, and it's easy to use. One small problem is... infrared connection period is too short. I can't keep using it the whole time when I want to send something to my gsm. I almost wanted to wait for the camera phone of Samsung, but I'm glad that I bought this one. Hopefully in the future it will have SD cards support and Java.

  • Steve, that is incorrect information. There is a call register if you press the green key from stanbby you will get info, including time and date of calls where number was not present

  • Without looking at the price, this Panasonic is the most reliable GSM in the world with a lot of useful features! According to GSMbox it beats all the other competitors! What a pity I don't have the money, so I'll have to keep my GD75!

  • does anyone know that this mobile is able to cancel unwanted phone call? and i know some that the mobile doesn't have call register like nokia...when the unknown number have been call to ur mobile..and it doesn't store in ur memomry...you can't check it, that is correct information, rite?

  • Thanks, but I cant download because ATT GSM doesnt allow my phone to browse the web, I was wondering if there was a way to have wallpapers or ringtones emailed to me, anyone know how?

  • i would like to know where can you go to download more games for this phone?

  • I would like to know about the price of the cellphone

  • to unknown:the last couple of entries from marco were not from me and as far as I am currently aware GD87 will not be released by T-mobile UK.Details of tech issues were not disclosed but I assume there were a lot of probs with failing mms etc which is one of the reasons why nokia 7210 withdrawn after 5 days and to be re-released in new year once nokia resolve, also software crashes a plenty on that model.Anyway take care with your purchase whatever you decide...marco

  • Games?? i cant see games in dude...i just see wallpapers, ringtnoes, nothing else...Panaguru where are the games? ;)

  • To; Monir Go to: There you will find downloadable ringtones, pictures (wallpaper), games, etc.

  • I got this phone to use in the USA with AT&T GSM service, anyone know how to get ringtones and pictures and work the web browswer on this phone? Thanks

  • I would like to know about the price of it ........

  • It'd be great if phone shops would give a "try before you buy" period so you can be sure to be happy with your choice of handset.

  • to: unknown mate, I would go for the Panasonic GD87 it's value for the money you're gonna spend. it just doesn't get better than this.

  • I have just bought this phone and ıt is really fantastic after samsung T100. Anybody knows how to display the district info(cell broadcast) permanently on the screen rather than alternating screens

  • too expensive

  • Thanks for your speedy reply Marco. I know the problem with the GD67 (68). It crashes during SMS writing, doesn't it? I'm hoping I can return the handset to get either a SIM free GD87 or a Samsung T100 (can't decide yet). Apart from that problem with the GD67, it's a pretty good little phone.

  • Elegant and compact. This is what customers are looking for.

  • to unknown: Sorry, I made an error it was related to the GD68 not the GD87, and we'll stock the phone early next year.

  • marco, can you specify on the technical issues please? I'm thinking of getting this phone but I'm not 100% certain. I'd have to get it SIM free and that would be a very expensive mistake if it goes wrong.

  • i just love this phone i want it now!!!!

  • The Panasonic GD887/88 is a fantastic phone; just read "What Mobile", "T3" and magazine's like that!!! They give the Panasonic top marks due to value, build quality, functionality, screen color and size and battery. Panasonic are on their way to being one of the world's best mobile phone manufacturer's.... Something to add on their already extensive list.

  • TO MIKE: The Panasonic GD68 model (1st batch) required a software update if the phone is used using Telstra or Vodafone's SIM and networks. If you have this issue you're required to get a software update by Panasonic. The reason for this is that Telstra and Vodafone had not fully tested the phone and only Optus are selling the phone. So, it was discovered that this was a problem as it only has Optus exclusivity for 2002 and people were changing the SIm and using Telstra and Voda SIM's instead of Optus'. Go to: www.panasonic.com.au

  • Keypad is so ugly, othervise this phone rocks.

  • to charlie... the gd88 has an infra red port you can use, and you can also buy a data cable as an accessory

  • I work for T-mobile UK and was awaiting GD87 to be officially launched any time now but they have made the decision not to release this handset due to technical issues with handset which would have led to customer dissatisfaction.I am dissapointed but will wait for something similar as I want integrated camera and it would be better with java downloadable games and larger pictures sent via email....still a bummer though!

  • Does anyone know if there is away of connecting the gd87 to a computer and getting the pics off it, or do u have to email them

  • I own this phone and it is awesome. I've always owned top quality phones (Siemens, Bosch) but this phone is very very good indeed. If you're seriously looking for a phone that will last I highly offer that you take a close look at the Panasonic GD87/88. Panasonic really means business and it seems that they are surely on the right track to eat Nokia, SonyEricsson, Siemens' market shares.

  • To DG (and rest of you good people...) Panasonic are always working on new stuff, and you won't be disappointed... Watch this space...

  • I know both, SharpGX10 and Panasonic GD88! Forget GX10!!!!!!!!! Cheap plastic case, fucking shit LCD! Although 16bit TFT like GD88, it looks more 8bit STN ! The lid is nearly double thick ! I only can say: Ugly!

  • I want to buy new one....when will it come to Thailand???

  • Apparently if you dial 000 with this phone it shuts it down... (000 is the emergency response number in Australia) anyone else heard this rumour?

  • playing around with my mates one at the moment, wicked phone... and to think they'll only get better :) p.s how many piccies can it hold

  • I believe that this camera phone is definitely going to be a great competitor of other mobile phone manufactering companies due to its quality, BUT I wish it could support JAVA applications as well!!!A large memory could also be a very good feature for this kind of mobile phones(I mean, with an on-board camera and many other applications)!!!

  • To all you people complaining about the 110.000 pixel camera of the GD87, who the f... wants to print a 300.000 pixel or even a 800.000 pixel quality picture anyway ???? NOBODY. What its all about, is taking a picture, send it, destroy it. If you want to sit at your computer (for several hours) to print, watch and edit pictures (IN A OK QUALITY) no phone/camera is good enough (nor is the digi. cams in the stores today. Sure you can store pictures on you PC - when do you watch them ? The future is watching digi pictures on the TV ON THE SOFA - WITH THE FAMILY.

  • Hi, thanks for the reply but I have another question, what's the difference between the panasonic GD87 and the Sharp GX10? They look practically the same. Is the quality of the pics taken by the sharp mobile the same?

  • I realy like it for it is one of the best and there is no one like it. But i need one of it here in Italy but very unfortunate enough that they don't have the manual in English but everything in Italian language which I don't understand talkless of reading. How can u help me out with this?

  • Picture size is 640x480,but qality is not as good as pictures made on Nokia 7650.

  • Yes it is possible to use it in all turkish networks including Turkcell,TelsimGSM and Aria too.

  • hi, what is the size of a picture taken by the panasonic GD87?

  • Hello, I am writing from Turkey and I'd like to learn if it is possible to use this phone in Turkcell or Telsim(operators) which has capabilities mms and gprs.

  • i want to know the price of this item

  • For Jonathan - try the www.panasonicmobile.com web site under the support tab, there is an operating instructions link. You can then download them for acrobat.

  • the gd87 looks real good with features and everything. I would love to get my hands on0 one.

  • damn i love this phone even though i cant fully use the full potential of this phone cause i dont have an english user guide, but if you can help me find one then that would be great but once agai9n this phone of the shizzznit

  • i want to purchase a piece of gd67,so i want price and what will i receive with that piece.

  • I wanna get the phone here in UK, but unfortunately, the phone is sim lock??!!!! Which means I only can use it on a vodafone network? What a shame, such an expensive phone. Anyone know when is the 'non-sim lock' version ever gonna come up in the UK?

  • Much more interesting, than all the questions/complains about the price & the resolution of the pics.....-> The successor of the GD87/88 ! Other companies eg. Samsung,...already show now their highlights for 2003 ! Does anubody know about Panasonics 2003 phones ? Maybe a link to a photo or info-source !

  • I want to price GD88 please send to E-Mail me thank you.

  • hi..i have a panasonic GD92...i'm thinking of changing my mobile phone to the latest GD88..but isn't it too expensive?i really like Panasonic's phone...especially the new GD88...wow...my opinion is to LOWER the price....!!!

  • first of all it is a Mobile phone not a digital camera so u buy it as a phone not to print pics.If u wanna print your pics buy a digital camera for 100 pound. much cheaper than Gd 87!! I think . but if u wanna buy a mobile with the best features GD 87 is still the best . Trust me !!!

  • The cmos-camera in gd87 will take pictures in 132x176 pixels. If you want to take good pictures, then buy a digitalcamera. And please stop writing with capital letters.

  • i was going to buy it until i learned that it only takes pictures in the screen dimension!you dont have the option to choose the dimension you want there is only one dimension!someone please say is it true because i like to take big pictures and then print them trough my computer

  • good

  • best gadget ever

  • Just bought it ..... Cool phone...GREAT screen.. But the camera is piss poor... Shame on u PANASONIC... This phone is fuckin xpensive here in Denmark!!!!!!!!!

  • Excelent,nothing to say.

  • if u wanna go for the best go for the GD87!!!!!

  • how long time voice memo?

  • Have it now for 12 hours...BUT......Please Nokia come with a usefull answer!!!!!!! PLEASE!!!

  • Eh! iet al krap man! Da iz a betta foon to by in roma wit capotjino fur friie!!

  • That impress and fnatasy

  • NECs N8 has additionally a 2nd 4096-COLOR SCREEN with 80x180 (!!!!!) resolution !

  • regarding NEC N8: this N8 has a screen resolution of 162x216 !!!!!!!

  • u can buy thishone on mobileli com fore ascund 450 dollars

  • NIK>> U can buy this phone on mobilefly.com for around 450 dollars

  • i want to know when will by come this mobile (gd 87) in greece and the price thnks!!!

  • I love the camera on this phone

  • One step more enhanced as GD87/88: Watch for NEC's N8 & LG's G8000 ! N8 has much higher LCD resolution & 2nd color screen, G8000 has video capabilities & supports MP3 and MPEG4 ...beside other additional features !!!!

  • Contrary to the data presented, this handset is tri-band capable: GSM900, 1800 and PCS1900. It checks all 3 bands for an available network, so no need to manually switch (a-la Motorola). Leastwise, the one that I tried did.

  • I like my GD88, because of it's style, but I hate Panasonic, because the betray the customer! A digital camera alone, don't make it a high tech phone !!!!! And if you GD87/88 fans don't betray yourself, then you will agree, that ALL the other features are standard, w/o any special add. feature! Only the dig.camera & the high quality LCD impress !!! That's a fact !

  • Rolls Royce does not have an electric sun roof. That does not make it a bad car.

  • What's about J2ME ? Regarding asian sites, the asian ver. GD88, should feature J2ME !!!!???

  • MMS but no EMS ????? I don't find any EMS functionality !!!???

  • What is this shit, that despite several hundred KB data capacity, this phone has NO INTERNAL MEM FOR SMS ???????

  • I don't find any kind of SIM/int. phonebook functions like: COPY 1 ENTRY, COPY ALL ENTRIES,...from/to....??? Each cheap 1 Euro mobile has such functions...

  • Tariq. With all due respect, if the function was so important to you then surely it should have been thoroughly researched before you purchased the product? plus as there was 14 days return you had 2 weeks to come to the bottom of this fact. If you feel that the manufacturers or the retailers have mislead you, then talk to the Fair Trading Standars. But this is not the phone's problem!

  • I bought the GD87 on the basis that i asked the staff at vodafone "does this synch with outlook calendar because thats really important for me" "yes - of course" he said "The GD87 has SynchML so just wait for the PC data cable which arrives in a few weeks and you'll be good to go" i called up Panasonic nearer the time to check when the data cable is coming "will be in stock next week" she said. I double checked with her and asked if its possible to synch the phone with outlook calendar. "erm...yes - of course" she said "but you'll need the data cable" i phoned panasonic yesterday - "yes the pc cables in stock now" "Fantastic" - i thought. "do i need any other software to synch my GD87 the the outlook calendar" "let me check with our technical people" after about 5 mins - "there is no way you can synch the GD87 with Outlook - sorry" FOR GODS SAKE!!!! WOULD IT BE TOO MUCH TO ASK STAFF TO HAVE A CLUE ABOUT WHATS GOING ON WITH THEIR PRODUCTS INSTEAD OF TRYING TO BLAG IT ALL THE TIME!!!!! Meanwhile my 14 day return policy has expired and im lumped with a phone that doesnt do what i want!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Sorry - meant to say GD87 is already in US. Think GU87 comes later.

  • I think triband version is GU87 - not out yet, but think you get GD87 in US

  • Its in Messages - Emails. I got mine to work matey, its working on UK O2 POP3 SMTP mail account anb it works a treat!!! Emails from my friends with ringtones and pics. Brilliant!

  • Maybe I get already blind, but I can't find the e-mail-function in my GD88 ! Is it possible, that the removed this function in the asian version ????? I can't believe !!! For what reason ????? Has somebody out there a GD88 ?

  • You have phones and you have Panasonic It's not a phone it's a way of life..... ^^(OO)^^

  • When you email the pics do they come out clear and big on the computer like thet T300. I am amazed by my T300 and how it shows the pictures after you send them to a computer. Does it show up clear on the display? Is 530 a good price for the phone?

  • Unknown 2002-11-12 16:07:17 Yeah, very true! They are running out of shapes and colours i imagine. That is why Nokia is trying desparatetly to try to be original with their designs... Good on them. Anyway, this phone is adequate for keeping up with the technology. I have had the phone for a few days now and can say that it is easy to live with. Though lacking in User Profiles means that there are no versatility in adjusting the ring/vibrate/quiet/silent modes. My other phone the T68 has all these functions and more, but for now the GD87 is keeping me quietly amused!

  • To DL: the similarity with GX10 is a coincidence. All Far Eastern manufacturers go for the clam shell silver look, it looks like almost all Japanese phones!

  • love to someday own a small yet sleek wonderfull phone like the GD87. Really looks good.

  • 260 UK price on vodaphone.co.uk on pay monthly, O2 haven't released it yet but will do on a pay monthly tarrif before xmas.

  • With this mobile phone, Panasonic gives the GSM-world it's masterpiece !

  • to Anwar: GD87 the European version, GD88 the version for asian countries! It has nothing to do with 2-band or 3-band,...It's a user-issue, that means, mainly a language-support-issue !

  • I have just purchased the GD87 and i must say, i am DAMN impressed. 3 negative points though...1 Not enough memory. 2. Cannot hold SMS msg's in phone mem. 3. Fiddly phone book. Other than that, this phone is bloody great. Keep it up Panasonic! Just a note though, it has an uncanning resemblence with the Sharp GX10....Um..Is this a joint project i wonder???

  • simply the best!!! brillant!!!!! congratulations panasonic!!!!!!!!

  • Good phone. But I don't understand why Panasonic has launched different models (GD67 & GD68) for Europe and Asia, if its a tri-band phone!!

  • Me being extremely happy with this phone is an understatement. Lens quality is great and after sorting initital network provider problems emailing pics is now seemless and quick using GPRS. Phone has a ruggidized feel, hinge is solid and the phone overall is definetely not flimsy. On the negative side, phone software in relation to photo album needs a rewrite and the user manual is not accurate. Definitely a great buy!

  • I'm in Thailand and i just want to buy it but i don't know howmuch is it and where to buy ... the SHARP GX10 too i saw it in vodafone.co.uk but i don't know how to but

  • This phone is great, but the big let down compaired to the sister Sharp GX10, is no java games, that would complete the picture and make this a best seller.

  • it's the best mobile . I like to buy one how ...???

  • nice phone to point out some negatives: 1)small memory only 700 kb which means around 20 pictures. 2)the camera takes pictures only at screen dimension of phone (extremely small) 3)no bluetooth these are only 3 negs but very important!i think!

  • I really like this version because of its feature, model, and the capability. But when this product entering market in Indonesia? and How about the price....? I hope this good product not too expensive according of my plan to buy and it would become the favourite mobile phones of this year, but I think it will more exciting if this version has a longer power supply and more fun games for entertainment not just only for communications......Thank You !

  • Please email me I have the Panasonic GD that everyone is looking for. I carry all phones! I am located in the US.

  • DG, OK the fool thing was a bit ott, all i meant was i've never got a phone that lived up to all the different specs that you see on the net. You only find its faults when you have it.

  • To the guy who banged on about the internal SMS memory of 300kb. If you have the phone rather that look at some German porn site then you would know i'm telling the truth about the 20 SMS limit. Fool.

  • so what dg you think 300k is a lot of memory?:-)i have 867k in my phone and is still not enough!

  • I just watched the GD87-specification on a German mobile phone homepage: the GD87 has an internal SMS-memory-capacity till 300KB !!!!!

  • I also like this GD87 very much & I'm going to buy it...but,we should be careful to overrate something too fast! Because: a 16bit TFT color screen & a dig. cam alone don't make it the best mobile phone on the market! The real high-tech mobile phones, you only find in Japan, not outside ! Too many features are missing to make GD87 the 'best': no bluetooth,no java,no video-on-demand,no memory expansion (eg. duo stick), no audio player, no video-capability,no 2nd color subscreen, no flash,...this are functions, which make a mobile phone 'real' high tech !!!!

  • 20 SMS-memory is rather poor for such phone ! But is this really true ? Such phones use 'shared memory' for diff. kind of data ! How big is the mem-capacity total ? 500 KB ?

  • I've had the phone for over a week now and the only bad thing is the SMS limit of 20 texts!! Yes i said 20. Oh and that's a total of 20, inbox, outbox added together. Still the best phone on the market. Any other questions answered if needed.

  • hey, is this Panasonic GD87 out yet in the UK, becos i well wanna get it 4 xmas, if so how much on any tariff and either pay as you go or pay monthly (but would be better on pay as u go) Thanks! Pete

  • Where is everyone getting their phones from? I want one but cannot find one. Have they even been released yet?

  • SMS handling... how large is the ordinary SMS memory? I heard it's limited only to the SIM Card? Is this true?

  • How much is it? The best decission of mine is to buy this phone!

  • What's about the SMS-handling ??? How many lines, access to special characters, internal SMS-memory, editing of mails,Zoom-functions,creating of new folders,...???

  • pythagoras is right and the biggest problem that i found with this phone is that the camera is prefixed to take pictures at the dimensions of the camera screen which is very small for me who i want to see my pictures from my computer or send it to a friend through email!AND IF YOU ENLARGE YOUR PICTURE WITH THE COMPUTER ZOOM AFTER THE SECOND ZOOM THE PICTURE SUCKS!

  • Nice device but no Java support, so you cannot play java games.

  • how much is the price with out ab 24 mont vertrag

  • Cha cha cha!

  • Have been using this beauty for almost a week now. I cannot see any flaws with it as pythagoras suggested. I think Panasonic should be given due credit for making such a spledid phone. Best camera yet. I have kicked my Nokia off for this.

  • panasonic gd87/88 check out:www.threegmobile.net and find out the truth!big problems

  • Am i right in thinking that I could use pop3 via an e-mail to sms gateway to reduce my texting bill? and that I can get e-mail in real tim via gprs?

  • How large is the capacity for ordinary SMS? Is it SIM dependent? Or you can use the phone memory for that? thanks!

  • Wow. Just got this phone on saturday. This really is the best. GPRS works well however cannot send E-mails yet with vodafone. Won't be long now though. Camera is Superb.

  • Hi everybody... I was curious if anyone has seen the new "Orange SPV". i think it looks cooool But i would like to know if anyone has tried it and can tell me if it's better or worse than the GD87. I'm thinking about buying the one thats the best so help me please!!

  • hello! how much is GD88 cost? is it 350 ,ok!

  • Just got this phone over the weekend. It is absolutely gorgeous and I am very proud to own such a phone. Easily the best handset available in the market now, LCD screen and camera much better than the Sharp GX10 plus a whole host of great features.

  • hello! can i make you a question?: how much is DG88 cost ?

  • I just got the phone. I had a 7650 before. The 7650 is terrible in comparision! This phone is quality. Solid build and a amazing screen.

  • How large is the message capacity... for ordinary SMS? thanks

  • I got the phone today (London) and it is tops! There is no other phone like it out at the moment. It makes the Sharp GX10 look like a toy! Buy it!

  • very good!i love you

  • Sorry it refers to a comment made much earlier, but YES, you can exchange pics, etc via IrDa with another GD87, and other data too, such as Vcards.

  • Fantastic Phone. I would like to have one just for status symbol as well as its great utility.

  • New Review from CNET Asia!

  • I found a page, that seems to show photos made by GD87 & also other photo-material !

  • Vodafone Germany offers GD87 for 299 Euro (incl.card),excl.599 Euro ! You can already order it in their online-shop !

  • love the phone, when is it out on a vodafone tarrif?

  • SMAU2002: 24.-28.10.02,Information-& Kommunikation-exhibition,Milano,Italy, 2nd biggest after the German CeBit in Hannover !!!

  • Hey pippo,sorry, but Your SMAU, what's that ???

  • This phone will be "officially" (I said officially) in stores in ten days, after SMAU. I got one in Germany from one of my client who knows one person who ... you know (the same old story .. it's simply luck). Bye

  • But GD87 is available before GD88 for asian countries ! GD88 only launched in December(Singapur,Taiwan,...)!!! Also Hongkong don't have the GD88 yet,...

  • Although Pippo already got his GD87, I think it isn't yet officially available in Germany ! Today, I contacted a friend, he has a Online-Handy-shop in Germany - he told me, that he didn't get a clear answer from his distributors about the delivery of the phone !!!

  • For Ken: YES, 3-BAND !!! Watch (spec.)

  • is this phone truly tri-band with GSM 900 / GSM 1800 / GSM 1900? can anyone help me out? thanks.

  • for Konrad/Germany: there is a Gr homepage promissing GD87 for this week & the price is 609Euro ! Watch it!

  • I wonder how much this will cost in the Philippines... It's scheduled to be released in December here... GD68 on October, GD55 on November.

  • i just love this fone

  • Whats the price dudes.......got to have me one of those

  • pippo, would it be possible for you to take a picture form the phone on the best quality and post it on net, i want to see the quality! thanks!

  • How many games does it have??? On it says it's two. But on the official page (http://www.panasonicmobile.com/frame/e_eng.html), it says it's one!

  • Please give me a site pippo8472 or DG! A german site where I can buy the new GD87. I need it like I need fresh air :-)

  • FOR orangeguy : Mine is grey. Don't know if the white model doesn't even exist (sorry...) But I assure you one thing ... this is the best mobile I've ever had. In Italy we're calling it "the Jewel". As you know I've bought it in a store but when I find a site where you can buy it online, I'm gonna post it. See ya!!

  • pippo! i want it! haha.. is the phone only in silver and gold? no white colour?

  • I need prices for panasonic GD87. Best Requards.

  • 2 great new phones from NEC, with and w/o dig.camera ! Available in asia Nov.! N8 is great !!!!!!!!!!!

  • Where have you seen the new NEC. I'm trying to find a pic in this site..but no cigar!! I've already burnt 580 for this great phone but if you tell me this one is great too ... well ... like always "two is better than one"!! lol

  • Pippo, did you see the new N8 from NEC ! This phone is more stylish and a step more high tech than DG87 !? N8 has a coverLCD with 4096 colors, the bottom side of the phone looks more pretty,no antenna, great other features,...

  • I don't know where in Germany Pippo8472 got this phone, but it's true !!! German onlineshops offer GD87 in WK43, and this is the coming week ! The prices differ from 549 till 609 Euro !!! I think our waiting is over friends !!! No ghost phone Jeff !

  • Took some time to translate from Italian to English. I bought it at the border between Swiss and Germany. The box is white . The menu is wide and the colours are even better than the ones in S100. As I've said the camera is wonderful and you can add up to 20 frames to the photo you upload in the phone. You can zoom but you can't enlarge the photo directly from the phone (sigh). The audio is better than any Nokia I had. Conclusion: I think this is the ultimate phone. P.S. It's even smaller than you think

  • Hey Pippo8472 ! You forgot to tell us, where you bought it !!!!!!!!!!! We are also very hungry already for this phone ! Please

  • Got it! Bought it in Germany.Price 580. Say bye bye to Nokia. The camera memory is 1mb and the zoom 1x (better than nothing). The display is the best I've ever seen. It's a bit lazy when writing SMS but that is the only difect I've encountered so far. 20 Ringtones. The display icons get bigger when you select them with the cursor. Will give you more infos in a day or two. Panasonic rocks

  • Hey guys, please don't forget: we talk still about a high-tech mobile phone and not about a prof. digital camera !

  • the nokia 7650camera is way more superior..the gd 88 camera picture looks better on the phone because of 65k colours but the size on fone is the actually size..only 100k pixels, nokia has 640x480=300kpixels..

  • It's very real... it's now the Flash intro on . And if you go to the European site, it's already the main product featured! Can't wait for this phone!!!

  • I just calculated: 549 Euro ???? This is rather cheap !!!!

  • The price in Europa for GD87 is 549 Euro (SIM free). Regarding a German homepage available soon !

  • Putting the Nokia 7650 and GD87/88 cameras side by side the GD87/88 is far more superior ! Give it a go yourself and see what you think.

  • JEFF this is no ghost phone. It is very real and will be available soon!

  • Im need digitaly photo for publishing in magazine

  • this phone should debut witha price of around US$550~650

  • however..these days these flip phones are getting bigger and bigger..now they are the size of non flip phones even woth their flips closed..and i am really disappointed at the built in cameras on the gd88 and N8..unlike nokias and ericssons which have 640x480, the panasonic and nec only 357x288 max..

  • yes the NEC N8 will definetly be better than this phone, however its camera resoultion is similar..

  • Panasonic Singapur eg.,announce GD88 at their homepage www.panasonic.com.sg for December !

  • I'm at the moment in Taiwan! Last weekend I was in Taipei in a phone shop: the guy there, told me, the phone is made in China, will be available in 2 weeks and cost 27000 NT$ !

  • Till now I was a big fan of this GD87/88, but when I watch now NEC's latest N8 at threegmobile.net .... This NECs looks great & even more high tech ! Price about 612 Euro and announced for Nov. !!!

  • isn't it strange that panasonic's official website doesn't advertise this new GD87 phone yet? also... no news on the internet or in shops. looks like a ghost phone...

  • yes true, but i read the camera is a CMOS camera supporting 110,000 pixels..pretty poor compared to nokia 7650 300,000 pixels..

  • Somebody posted something about 182 x 132 pixels being 110,000. What kind of math is that? It would have to be around 331 x 331. Still, this is very small for a digital photo.

  • In Asia the phone will be released as GD88, and in europe GD87.But according to an asian test of the phone, the prototypes is with a tru CCD camera and the screen is the best TFT and highest pixels screens too! So u cannot belive the initial pictures will be the real product. It's only supposed to be able to take 132x176, or 110,000 pixels. So don't let the pictures fool u... The screen is not what it looks to be, that is the roumers, sad i think. Maby a prototype is a available for sale.. Go to: www.threegmobile.net/gallery/panasonicgd87/index.html

  • how much is this phone to buy out right? thank you

  • I've seen / played with both the GD87 and the sharp GX-10. Both are good phones but i liked the GD87 more as it felt lighter and better made. Also the menu system on the Sharp was hard to use. The other big thing is you can take a picture with the clam shell closed on the cd87 as there is a button to snap just below the external display. Other than theat both phones are very alike.

  • I personally cannot wait. I believe it is going to be realeased on Orange first in the UK to compete against the Sharp GX10 from Vodafone? Hopefully in the next few weeks, its in the latest Orange catalogue but I asked yesterday and they still had no date. Some of you guys with inside knowledge must know if the first batches are being produced yet? Come on I am dying here waiting for this phone, don't disapoint me panasonic. Hmmm 65k tft :o)

  • Dear Sir, I wounder how money Panasonic GD87? Especially in Turkey... Can you please answer me as soon as possible?

  • Fantastic handset....you can send you fav pics to another gd87 via irda...

  • it's a fantastic cellural phone and i can't wait bue it

  • GD87 is a tri-band!!

  • I like this phone, it would be perfect if it was a tri-band. But every were i look(exept a russian page)the phone is a dual-band. I doubt the russian page is right, beacuse panasonic has stated that it is a dual-band so... With the new 3G phones on the market around new year(early 2003) GSM fhones with dual-band wil be old fashion, and tri-band is the least you could expect in such an overall luxery and exspensive GSM phone.

  • I would like to comment that GD87 actually supports IRDA & MMS too, please correct the information.

  • it's a joint effort

  • Where is this phone manufactured ? Europa,Asia,...?

  • I had a preview of this phone and i can't wait till it comes out on general sale. really good especially the camera and the screen is amazing. ringtones and games are also really cool. not to long to wait i hear.

  • Yes the GD87 will be tri-band ... Looks like vodafone in UK will release it in October

  • Does somebody know, where(in which country,Town) the GD87(88) will be available first ???????????

  • has the phone got anything like video on demand like on the future Samsung's, will it have an infa-red port, blue-tooth technology and will it have java?

  • You have (at least) one thing wrong: Panasonic GD87 does have an IrDA port, and can transfer images, phonebook, and scheduler data both ways.

  • it's good but rather expensive.I wit for the new one gd88!

  • i like it

  • The GD87 won't distribute to Malaysia. Because of the SUCK goverment. You can go to Singapore to get it. The price around $(S)1300. Digital Camera inside the phone. Pls read the description first!

  • i've been a panasonic fone addict,i've been collecting several other units that are no longer found on market...this gd87 is quite uniqe i like the features..if u could give one for free i definitely what to have one... =)

  • How is it cost? How can I find it in Malaysia? Have a digital camera?

  • It's very nice.I love Panasonic GD 87.

  • If I had some more money, I'd buy this phone. But sure, I'm very satisfied with my GD75 which is also outstanding!!!

  • the price is around 500p (UK) the price is around 1500 (Aus) the phone will release in this month.

  • For Peter... exactly what is missing from it? Check out the specs? If you have, you won't be disappointed. When is it available? We're working really hard on it - please bear with us... patience *IS* a virtue, and the *BEST* things do come to those that wait... ;-) Seriously, we're entering the final stages of development and tweaking - I've been using my prototype handset for several weeks now, and am convinced that the core part is ready to ship. The GPRS performance is simply outstanding. Panasonic phones may be later to the market than some other manufacturers, but are well worth it when they arrive. Please check it out - you'll be glad you did.

  • So whens this out then!!

  • Daniel, I work for Orange UK, and we'll be launching this phone, end of Oct 2002. No idea of price yet, but only obtainable on pay monthly.. Hope this helps..

  • When does this phone come out in England???

  • GD87 is not Java enabled and is very much a Japan product.
