Panasonic Lumix Smart Camera CM1 - User Reviews

  • For most people, this is just a digital camera. Who wants a phone that looks like that? Well not me personally, try to find another smartphone that can attach a 37mm diameter external lens or longer with a step ring. Some people would definitely say to buy a proper DSLR camera. But I rather not bringing that heavy bulk around every time I go out.

  • The best Camera on a phone ever created. It is a shame people never realised the great potential of this gem. Would love to see it re-released in a revamped Avatar with better specs and sleeker form.

  • CM1 and CM10 are just the exactly identical phone. The only one difference is that CM1 have SIM card slot and LTE connectivity, whereas the CM10... doesn't, much like the Samsung Galaxy Camera/Camera 2/NX.

  • Samsung once did the S4 zoom and the K/S5 zoom, so there must be a market for such device.

  • Why would you want to make phone calls and send text messages on a point-and-shoot camera anyway? Wouldn't that be pretty weird?

  • Correct and still is the only phone ever with a 1” censor

  • you are wrong , the panasonic CM10 has 1inch sensor

  • Sorry, no phone on the market today has a 1" sensor.

  • It got LTE connectivity, so yes... it IS still a phone.

  • It got LTE connectivity, so yes... it IS still a phone.

  • It's not a phone, it's just a generic digital camera

  • Imagine a phone with 5-5.5" camera and android one

  • Man... you got to learn about sensor size vs aperture. The f2.8 on a 1 inch sensor beats the f1.7 on a 1/2.55 inch on a S8 anytime, no matter in terms of light gathered or bokeh. I agree with the part on the flash, but it does not really need OIS that much because a) it is easy to hold compared to a 8mm thick phone as it provides lots of stable grip and b) it can easily handle ISO 3200 without much noise. Try that high ISO on any other phones and you will get a watercolor painting. I was so impressed with the 1 inch sensor on this phone that when I finally had to retire it, I bought a Canon G7X II as a replacement.

  • Its such a shame they had this great idea and then crippled it. Yes you have to compromise with big parts like this tho keep profits. Especially when you know it won't sell as much. But if you sacrifice too much and don't support it then you lose profit drastically. No OIS, F2.8 when the standard was F2.2. 21.1mm thick with 2,600mah battery where 8.1mm think phones had batteries of 2,800mah. No xenon. I think the worst part was lacking OIS. And despite the great hardware the image processing needed updates. Which is ok.... if it had gotten them. Especially the video. No OIS, I believe no 4k, and lackluster processing. So much potential. But they never really did much in firmware updates to fix the camera. And only provided the update from kit Kat to lollipop. Then abandoned the phone.

  • After 2 years, I had to retire mine. Battery is more or less dead, phone will shut down at 20-25% charge, usually at around 6-8 pm. I do wish that they will produce a CM2 as any other phones that I try have rubbish cameras compared to this.

  • its not copy. The specs are for a Lumix camera that added smartphone features. They used it due to the trend.

  • I still love this cameraphone! Its main minus though, lack of OIS, which is essential in HDR. I wish we had a successor with OIS and maybe with xenon flash... Until then I stick on it. Still a modern device, with a unique premium feeling, not just one more smartphone of the mass...

  • I will have bought this phone if will have removable battery

  • 1.1' inch sensor biggest ever among every smartphone! note that 1st

  • no

  • it has front camera

  • No xenon? No buy.

  • Does it support wireless charging?

  • thiz handset featurs is fine bt if we wnt to vedio calling then we get a problm,so thiz handset should be attach a front cam. :) :) :) :)

  • It's not a copy of Samsung Galaxy Zoom , It's a copy of the Sony Z3 Compact , Just look at their specs , It's specs are more alike

  • So it dropped down to $500 in US. Any takers? :)

  • Bought this phone 3 weeks ago.. this phone got nothing great to talk at all beside the camera that can take good details photo in low light condition.

  • you know nothing

  • i wish all Smartphones would use a 1'' Sensor

  • I had it... You don't have to use flash, this cameraphone works well even in low light.

  • Its lol phone at copy of samsung galaxy zoom. No xenon (atls 3 liminous based dual led flash would have been better) No ois. No digital zoom. No BSI for front cam. All this at 65000 INR. LOL LOL LOL.

  • It's both.

  • This device have a great sense of putting a high end camera to smartphones and tons of nonsense. No xenon flash.(disappointment but still can live with that). No OIS (shame and same time strange when almost all major smartphone flagships these days have ois, a camera centric smartphone or smartcam do not consider ois. Hard to understand) Venus engine (why they put Venus engine on cm1 if snapdragon can perform better than that.) No slow motion. No standard 4k video recording. All above shortcomings can be ignored if they use micro4/3 MOS sensor with interchangeable lenses. Sadly they didn't considered it either. Lastly the price tag..almost usd1000. True madness nothing more.

  • Is it a phone or a camera?

  • great spec great design best phone compere to samsung k zoom

  • How is the battery life of this phone?

  • The camera has a 1 inch sensor. Its hard to believe that it will drop down to 500-600.... Dedicated Camera's with 1 inch sensors cost more than $500 Im very interested in this Camera although battery life of this camera is a concern... I am an enthusiast photographer so this phone looks promising

  • Thank you

  • Ok. So I've had it for two days now. I'll break it down into two sections, the phone and the camera. So, first the phone. Out of the box, it updates ota to 4.4.4, which was surprising. If you prefer, you can also download the update and flash it from your sdcard. The first thing I noticed was how snappy and responsive the system was. I went about setting things how I like them, and right now I'm running NovaLauncher and it's flawless. The UI is straight Kit-Kat, with only three Panasonic camera apps, one being a picture gallery. The speaker sound is impressive to me, considering it wasn't a major focus of the device. Calls over it were received and sounded clear, unmuffled, and didn't drop at all. The display is sharp and adaptive. I didn't have any issues seeing the screen while using it outdoors. There's also an option to adjust your tint and white point if you find it necessary, though I have not yet. On storage, I have 11 gb available on the phone, after apps and things, plus my external storage. Comforting to know that no matter the format, I'll have room for the photo sizes to come. Video recording didn't lag at all, and the zooming function, at least for me, being a traditional smartphone camera user, was pretty awesome to use! That goes for pictures as well. If anyone wants to see my picture tests, let me know. They're already out there though. The overall design of the phone makes it a very comfortable grip in my hand. Switching from phone to camera is almost too easy. What surprised me the most was how light it actually feels. I had no problems with it fitting in my pocket. On the developer side of the house, things are a little rudimentary right now. I would guess that's because this device is in a class by itself, but, like anything else, time heals (and roots) all things. Developer options are available, as per usual, but only adb commands are available. You can boot to recovery from android, but there is no access (as far as I can see) to a bootloader or any way to enable a fastboot. Again though, I'm sure someone wiser than me will eventually figure it out. After all, they are allowing flashable updates via sdcard, which would seem to allow for custom roms or images, at least. Overall, this feels like everything this device should be. Once everyone else's hands get tired of curved, wide and monstrous devices, I can see this being the next type of device people will go for. After all, of you're going to carry a camera and a phone, they might as well be together, right?

  • I've just ordered this and am waiting on arrival. I really weighed the pros and cons, and my conclusion is that with the way things are headed with modern photography and social media, this strikes a great balance between phone and camera. At the end of the day, if you're going to carry a phone and camera, you'll be paying for both, so if you look at it that way, the price actually evens out. I'll write back with my results once it gets here.

  • I am totally blown away by this cameraphone. It is definitely a game changer! Man I've been waiting for something like this for a long time. 1. In terms of design, I would give it 10 out of 10. 2. In terms of specs, 10 out of 10 again. 3. In terms of camera, I'd give it 8 out of 10. 4. In terms of battery, I would give it 7 out of 10. I welcome changes in the second generation. Wish this phone had a Xenon flash alongside the LED flash, 4K recording at 30fps, ISO 50-6400, Optical Image and video stabilization and a removable battery of over 3000 mAh capacity then it would have been the perfect and the ultimate gadget for me. Please Panasonic, I hope you are listening to me.

  • the *MAIN* specification is good. until the battery...

  • This is definitely going to be the ultimate game changer, a lot of people were waiting for this type of phone. It's not gonna be cheap though, I'm speculating around $1000, maybe more.

  • 4k 15 fps? Oh no, that's not the way how you should do it! Processor itself supports 30fps, Qualcomm should provide appropriate software support for this device.

  • Those who are rejecting the phone because of the lack of a flash are missing the point that with this level of lens light gathering ability you simply won't need it. This is the first phone ever with a real lens, and you should base your flash expectations on the camera world, not the phone world. Phone users are used to snapping through a pinhole. I've used a Lumix MFT camera for years (GF1,GX1,&GM1) even in candle light, and have needed the flash exactly zero times. I admit it's still nice to have for special effects, but it isn't needed.

  • It should come with a proper xenon flash if it's main focus is photography. Perhaps the optical zooming is handled by the large sensors like Nokia 808. But it is just incomplete without a proper xenon flash.

  • For a camera smart phone to be ruling the roost. I think it should have xenon flash for still images and double led flash for capturing video. Screen size should be 5 inch's. Dual sim support and 3000 may battery. S4 zoom and k zoom did not take off mainly because neither of these has led flash for video capturing. U can't shoot video with these camera phone under low light conditions. Panasonic lumix will meet the same fate. It is priceeeey much much more expensive than s4 zoom and k zoom.

  • It's definitely gonna be a big flop. No xenon flash no optical zoom and almost 3 times more expensive than k zoom. Battery will also let u down.

  • if it had a optical zoom it would be thicker and it wasn't a phone any more.with 1 inch sensor it's mostly for photography so don't look at it just the way you look at galaxy models.

  • Battery is only 2600mAh which SMALLER than Samsung S5. With Camera motor, etc. I believe this will be Battery hungry sucker... Gosh!

  • Battery is only 2600mAh which SMALLER than Samsung S5. With Camera motor, etc. I believe this will be Battery hungry sucker... Gosh!

  • This device is too over priced. Doesn't seem worth buying. A bid sensor on a 20mp is not enough coupled with no xenon flash. A big letdown. Like all other Panasonic devices this is again a flop show. Seems that company has used all the hardware to make this handset. No use if no optical zoom. Wake up panasonic! And better luck next time.

  • wellcom panasonic iam cheering on it

  • Not True ! We can see more than 160 fps. 60 fps:

  • Does this device capture stereo video recording or only mono?

  • yes, because you can see no more then 22-24 FPS.

  • Can someone please confirm this spec? 2160p@15fps It seems pretty useless to film at such a high resolution only to get 15 choppy frames per second?

  • no optical zoom, no xenon flash and only 15fps??? what a bummer by a high tech company. Pitty!

  • I have always asked why panasonic won't produce a good phone because I have many electronics produced by panasonic and they are the best. This phone is amazing and there cameras is very good and I think the camera of this phone will be amazing too . The display very nice and have very good pixel density. I will buy this phone ofcourse . Iam turning from sony and nokia to panasonic :-)

  • Panasonic done wonderful job!!! It is better than galaxy camera

  • seriously ? 15FPS 2160 HA ! 1080p 30fps LOL

  • Its lightweight has quite a big sensor for a smartphone its high end. I would imagine this will be quite expensive.

  • HD Video @ only 30fps???

  • If it is really a camera then it should have had these 2: Xenon flash, and no-quality-loss zoom (Optical preferred. I was interested at first, but when I noticed those to be missing I lost the interest. Good luck Pana

  • Not the quality either 😉

  • this is my phone

  • i would consider if it has ois and 5in screen.

  • no use.. xenon flash is missing.....

  • Is the sensor size correctly mentioned or is it a typo

  • sensor is bad..??? This phone has the largest sensor ever planted into cell phone, the only handicap is xenon flash... Could take great pictures without optical zoom.

  • 2160p@15fps ?! wow that's sick

  • this is so bad i better hav xperia z2 or galaxy kzoom with a lower price & better specs

  • where's the xenon flash? where's the optical zoom? wake up panasonic! focus on your tough cameras..

  • is this a phone or a camera

  • There's a difference between Panasonic and xiaomi

  • 15fps is good for fast forward video and safe spaces ;)

  • Lol no optical zoom?

  • I don't care about mp, but sensor is bad.

  • Its confi is same as xiaomi mi3 but m sure its price won't be .....;p

  • I think its worth the price to be pricey

  • What a handicap, no xenon flash... 1" sensor size, the biggest one so far...

  • If it's pricey, not gonna buy it...

  • 2160 15 frames note 3's 2160 is 30 frames
