Philips Xenium 9@9u - User Reviews

  • I've had this phone for about a year now. I was looking for a phone that does what it should, and does it well. I didn't want an mp3 player or a netbook to keep in my pocket. This phone is compact, reliable, long-lasting (best rechargeable battery I've ever had in ANY portable electronic), and it makes calls better than the 4g iphone.

  • This phone is the worst phone I have ever had in my entire life. The software doesn't work, the radio is shit, the mp3 is shit, the camera is shit, it's heavy, the button layout is crappy, pressing the central OK is almost impossible, the menus are as complicated as Minotaur's Labyrinth, the settings are hidden so deep that you will not find them EVER, even the GOD DAMN ALARM CLOCK cannot ring continuously but goes to auto-snooze (can't turn that off) and then you have to lurk inside the settings to turn it off or it will start ringing again at random. This phone does a lot of things but it does all of them like a drunken retard with brain cancer. DON'T BUY IT!!!

  • Have a 9@9K model and have a very good battery life. Had problem with a low battery life and found that by not using any memory card ( or using a very compatible memory card which can be obtained thru trial and error and lot of wasted money ) the standy time increased a lot.

  • This is really cool. We can edit our photos likely as the photoshop like the ones in our computer. The battery life is long and one thing I regret is that the camera is not as better as 1.3MP of Nokia. So please make it better whoever concerned. I have been using this for a month and It is quite good

  • i just bought this phone. i noticed when u send message without saved, it will not be stored in sent folder. when i read the manual it says when you save and send it will be stored in outbox folder. i am confused now. will the message be stored in sent folder when u just send (without save)? anyone knows? thanks

  • The battery life may not be the ridiculous overrated amount electronics makers always give, but this phone in particular has without a doubt had the longest battery life I've experienced, going without charge for 3 days having gone through almost 3 hours of talk time each day. It's a little smaller than I percieved it to be, but some would prefer that.

  • The battery life is grossly misrepresented. I wish the specs out there were vaguely in line with experience.

  • I;m a user of this phone for slight over a mth, quite happy with it.. some downside i like to share or anyone know who to overcome it. Sms: * cant insert new word into the dictory. * composing message using smart eng, cant use "number 0" only can give u a "space". have to go back to input method to change to "numeric". * don't have a function to alway save send messages. * very troublesome to sending mass sms to ppl. phonebook: * when u transfer ur card to phone, everything become Double.[don;y have a option to choose neither phone or card] page 1/2

  • Radio too soft even using max volume. MP3 still acceptable when using max volume. batt only have 3 bars, hard to determin the batt level left. [if got percentage(%) better] cam quailty quite bad. maybe is because it is using 2mp cam. [5mp better] page 2/2

  • Hi, I downloaded mobile animations format is SWF but it doesn't run in this phone. This format must have jave supported platform. Why is it doesn't run.

  • I have the white version of this phone. So far I have had it for about a month and I am happy with it. The battery lasts for about 1 week with normal use. It seems to be charging also through the USB connection when connected to a computer. As a reviewer for a similar phone 9@9w mentioned, you will not want to use the 9@9u software from its link at philips, but rather you want to download the Mobile Phone Tools software for the X710 phone from the Philips website. When you choose Interface Setup, you will see the following models are apparently supported 9@9u, 9@9w, Philips M600, Philips X710, X620, X700, and X800 via USB. The hourglass never went away (maybe it would eventually, but I didn't want to wait), so actually I was not able to use the Mobile Phone Tools. However, the reason I write all of this is because there are others out there who said that these phones won't work with a Kingston Micro SD card (even less than 2GB). I was going crazy. Using a computer, I formatted the MicroSD using an adapter without the phone, but the phone would not recognize it at all. With the 9@9u software that you download from the website, it still didn't work. I was thinking there must be a formatting issue. Then after I used this X710 Mobile Phone Tools software and chose the 9@9u interface option, although the software tools never came up, suddenly Windows told me that it recognized the Kingston Micro SD. It disappeared and I tried again and while it was present, I formatted the drive as FAT. Something else interesting occurred. With the regular 9@9u Mobile Phone Tools, the files of the phone itself were not accessible with XP, but they were with this X710 software. Also thinking it may be that some file was needed to allow the Kingston memory card to be recognized, I copied everything from the phone memory to the Kingston memory. Later I decided to delete all these. THE PHONE NOW RECOGNIZES THE KINGSTON MICRO SD CARD!!! Steps to use a Kingston Card seem to be 1. Install X710 Mobile Phone Tools 2. Set Interface to 9@9u and choose OK 3. Plug in the phone through its USB connection and on the phone choose "Mass Storage" 4. Insert a working SANDISK Micro SD Card into the phone. 5. Windows will soon recognize both the internal memory and the Micro SD card. 6. Take out the working Micro SD card (this seemed necessary to trick it into allowing recognition of the Kingston card for a minute or two - long enough for formatting. 7. Under My Computer, right click the icon for the Kingston card and Format as FAT. Wait and hope it does not disconnect before formatting is finished. 8. Go to the internal memory. Make sure that even hidden files are viewable. Copy all these to the Kingston drive. 9. Later delete the files and unplug the USB connection. 10. The Kingston Micro SD card is now seen under the File Manager of the phone. HOWEVER, if you remove the Kingston Micro SD card or if you turn off your phone, it will no longer be recognized by the phone and you will have to repeat steps 1-10 with the USB connection. Well, actually all you have to do is insert the Kingston card, run the X710 software and run the Interface setup for the 9@9u, plug in the phone to the computer via USB, and Windows will recognize the Kingston card. Disconnect the phone and via File Manager on the phone you will see Memory Card as an option. But as soon as you remove the card or turn off the phone, the whole process must be repeated. Note that this problem is not seen with the SanDisk card that came with the phone when I bought it. I hope whoever reads this can maybe add more useful information about how to solve the Kingston Micro SD incompatibility problem. The volume is a low for the ringer files and although I tried to make a better ringer file, it still is not loud enough. So even though the phone is in my pocket, I miss calls and messages. The radio is nice and overall I am happy with the phone. My friend has one that however only gives about 3 days of battery life for minimal use he says. Possibly his battery is defective. The buttons are easy to push, so for this reason I like the design. The camera takes fairly nice pictures. I have gotten use to 7MB from a camera, but at least this one is not VGA. I would give it a B+/A-.

  • Screen refresh rate, maintenance department said that this is normal. You have such a thing? Thanks

  • does 9@9U have a blacklist caller, please help me.....

  • Sound....? Good or bad? please reply my question....

  • yes it has crystal talk and it is world phone ,just pop your sim card in and it will works any network.

  • no phone is like other phone if you buy a new phone you have to learn how to use it.

  • may i ask among the users of this phone if how much is the storage for the phonebook?ive heard that the 9@9w stores only 300 contacts.thanks.

  • Does Xenium 9@9U have a noise reduction like Crystal Talk of Motorola?

  • hi regarding the texting and coming out of the 'komma' etc. yes this phone is a bit awkward in its text input programme. if after an 'e', or 'a' etc you want a komma, there are 2 options: spece first and then press '1' twice to get the komma. or press '*' and choose 'komma'. main thing is that this phones texts so fast that any 'dictionary' is obsolete.

  • hey regarding the received files through bluetooth etc, just transfer them to the memory card. its a little extra work but it does it fast. actually everything is fast in this phone.

  • update the specs... maintain the looks... this will be one hell of a phone. anyway... it's a cheap phone.. a nice looking entry level phone i guess.

  • help... anybody here have the same problem like me? i find it strange when texting.. see..., when i type like this: "hai, where bla bla bla " after the word hai if i press the key 1 twice. it didn't show comma but a symbol like a box. after a couple times then it show up. it's not very effective i have to hit it couple times..funny thing is..., i've tried many phones.. nokia, siemens, sony ericsson basically they're all have the same thing if i press key 1 or 0(for siemens) twice. i can see comma in just.. so is it just me or any of you guys have the same problem?

  • here's another update.... all data that are transferred via bluetooth automatically forwarded to the phone memory, and not directly to the memory card. you cannot use the photocall since only 20kb size is allowed. just want to ask whats the use of the other storage aside from the phone storage?????

  • Just bought one of these. Excellent little phone. Great battery life. All the functions that I could possibly need and more, for Rmb1,080. Useful automatic IP dialing for use in China.

  • can anybody teach me how to assign picture on caller? It always says limited to 20kb, if im gonna use picture taken from its camera. to jim: its on my first thought that when philips declared that a 1 month standby time includes the normal time of using the unit. be cool....... is there anybody owns a cellphone let their units leave in one place and don't use it for a month after buying one???? i dont think so. then it is always pressumed that the declaration of standby time includes the normal use, isn't it????

  • llisten 8 hrs talktime mean on a full charge after 8hrs of conversation its dead so 4hrs of talktime over 4 days means the battery should be under half......if you charge the phone and put it in standby without using it it will last a month. some people are like oh it only lasts 5 days well if you average 1hr on the phone a day the phone should go a full week on a charge

  • i am using this for a week now... i bought this for the battery performance... it lasts only 6 days with normal use and activated in authomatic on/off mode. i thought it cud last for 1 month.... talking to other party is kinda fussy.. the volume is too low even the vol is already in the maximum sound, need to press/push the cell into your ear to be able to hear clearly the other party. i bought it for PhP7990.00.

  • I really want to buy this phone. Can anyone make sure how good this handset is ?

  • Thanks but I just want a picture sample...can you provide me one? Just a picture link will do..thanks And one more thing I have a Motorola HT-820 is it compatible?

  • the mp3 player has equalizer. it works well. the camera seems no less than comparable ericsson and nokia phones. the nice thing is you can adjust the brightness while focussing without going into the menu. there is a hot key to do that.

  • Please put links to sample camera pictures taken by the 9@9u . Thanks + Does this have equalizer settings?

  • 9@9u, is there any better font to use?

  • i am sick of this phone....because its battery is too well!

  • i m using the set for one 1 month. its a good set. easy to use. software are same as like a non brand china set. but its good

  • i use the phone for over a month now. all features are there and quality. the battery lasts twice to thrice as long as an average phone. of course it will not stay 1 month when its used. It will stay one month stand by if you put it aside and don't use it, after three weeks you can still use it. Its STAND BY time remember ? fact is that the phone can easily be used twice to thrice as long with one load as an average phone which promises 4 hours talking time. works very well with bluetooth stereo headset. camera unexpectingly outstanding quality.

  • the xenium 9@9u does charges through the usb when attached to a computer / laptop. always.Actually all philips phones whith usb cable charge after connecting them to the compute.

  • I want to buy a new mobile.May i knw how is xenium 9@9 philips 4n,hw is batery type camera and all fetues..

  • hi guys, are there any current philippine users of this phone? would appreciate if you can tell if me if there's an option for equalization settings for the music player, either manually tweaking selecting "rock", "jazz", "classical"...etc... please email me at [email protected]

  • Philips Mobile Phones are now in the Philippines. There are 6 new models available in the retail level. Several more are coming in the country every month.

  • based on my previous experience with xeniums, it doesn't really last the claimed 30 day time frame. it depends on a lot of factors like signal strength, type of sim and how it is used. i too am looking forward to having them here in the philippines. the brand has taken a lot of bad rap (philips itself is not entirely blameless) so it would be interesting to see how the new owners of the philips brand will push their product to the next level.

  • philips cellphones is already available in the Philippines. you can purchase it in mall based cellphone stores. nice phone actually

  • xenium line phones normally last around 1 week to 1 1/2 week normal use. heavy usage would be 3 to 4 days. it is still better than other phones.

  • I'm in Texas, USA with ATT/Cingular. Bought from yesasia.com for US$220. Good phone overall. Unfortunately, I have the HK version, so switching text input modes often means switching through the Chinese ones as well. Received the phone on Thursday AM, and was down to one bar (seems to be four) on Sunday PM. To me, this means my typical use is something like 5 days on maybe 2 hours of talk time. Of course, in the first week of a new phone, there is a lot of playing around with the functionality. Seems to have a similar battery life to my old Nokia 3100 with a new battery, but the Nokia only claimed a 6h battery life.

  • some people expecting a battery life that would extend up to 1 month it is true if you will not use it meaning standby ok but upon your regular use it will last for about 3 -4 days ok

  • why cant philips get their phones to india.it would be nice to have this phone here.

  • I need help.....when I press the mute button, the phone automatically gets into vibration mode without ringing..I want the phone to be totally silent, no ringing and no vibration...how do I do that?

  • is this available in the philippines? wow!! 1 month standby time.any users in this forum having exactly 1 month standby time with this unit?

  • I'm at charge numer 6 already

  • You must make 2-3 recharging cycles for 740 hours stand-by time.

  • I have the exact same problem with mine 9@9u as the previous writer......the battery is a 1050Mah and it only lasts for 3 days......faulty battery or faulty phone???

  • The reason why I bought this phone is because of the promise of the long lasting battery. Unfortunately I'm having issues exactly with the battery, it is only lasting for 3 days. I'm sure I received a defective phone so I have contacted the dealer about this issue. If wasn't because of that, I would say buy this phone. If you are looking for a phone to make videos, do not purchase this one. pictures are okay. Love the feeling of the phone and it would be perfect for what I use a cell phone ... only if my battery lasted the promised 740 hours in standby.

  • with reference, 9@9u has 512Mb Flash ROM and 256Mb RAM for it's O.S. but only 25MB available for users' data. mind MB & Mb, also the O.S. memory & storage memory are different the max video quality is as PAL VCD or CIF besides, EDGE has been mentioned in the official materials such as this leaflet: though it doesn't mean that the phone really support it! ^+++^

  • Whoa, I wouldn't mind having this baby!! I hope it comes out in the UK, looks SIIIIIICCKK!!!!!

  • Ok, setting some things straight. From the official Philips PDF sheet: Video Recording = max 352x288 @ 15 fps ONLY Video Playback = 352x288 @30 fps. Combression formats = MPEG4, H.263 User Memory = 25mb Internal Memory = 512 mb flash. So, I just got disappointed coz the 30fps are only for PLAYBACK, *not* recording :(

  • i had 768.sold that to buy 5700.im thinkin i wud sold 5700 to buy this.ofcourse i will miss 3g.but philips provide best quality with cheaper price. philips also has great display resolution, durability, rock solid casing, great battery life, great sound and camera.my 5700 camera shows too much noise. so the benefits u are getting from this are- great sound smart good looking great camera dual network rock solid body unimaginable battery life 30 frame videos(dvd quality) dnt think. go get it...

  • just bought this phone from a dealer in Hong Kong - let's see how much I like it once it is delivered in Canada. Keep you posted for my full review

  • Other Xenium phones can charge through miniUSB by pc ONLY when the battery isn't completely flat.

  • I wonder if it can be charged through the miniUSB, please?

  • Can be purchased for US$ 199.00 at yesasia.com (for USA & Canada) and global.yesasia.com (international). Have fun now!

  • Seem like philips really droped the western Europe market, i never saw any mobile of philips again...Shame, because theyre so appealing, and perform rather well... Do you know any website to buy them?

  • Available in Beijing now.I'm going to get one after work(aboutus$190).I'm really appreciate with the longlife battery and good looking

  • they are allready in stores in russia. to bad, that philips is not soldin baltic region .seems to be good phone

  • how philips the java file type? only jad or jad and jar? can copy from pc to phone with BT and data cable without wap site? if can be, i'm buying this phone...

  • Hans, where did you buy this phone? It just came out & not yet available. People on this site are such liars, it's unbelievable. Another thing, as far as data speeds, it only comes witht the ever slow GPRS, not Edge, not 3G or any of the high speed data options. Stop lying.

  • This seems to be one of the best product of Philips. We do not understand why such products are not marketed in India. In India percentage of brand loyality is very high. If this Phone made available in Mumbai it will definitely capture large share. At what cost and where in India will it be available ?

  • All the updates are grate Mp3 etc, buy the design that gray part in the middle i don't like it, looks like a perfume , if that was like black like something more future like the black part of the playstation 3

  • I associate Philips phones with huge standby, 2 month is enough. my phone has max. 3 days tandby.

  • This phone comes with EDGE, 2MP camera, Long battery life and good looks, Micro SD card slot for expansion and plays good MP3 music. So if thats waht you are looking for...this is it.....i like it, just bought one and serves its purpose.

  • This phone has 512MB of internal memory and not 25MB

  • Phillips?well according 2 ma opinion,i think it's just pathetic.no edge,no infrared,no 3g,no wifi.this phone looks good but has nothing.come on phillips, this is 2008.gprs is slow and old and has no style.i own a preety strong iron made by phillips, atlist av got somthing to smile about with phillips.am viewing and writting this opinion with my sonyericsson w850.i think that kinda gives u a clue of what am into.

  • i wonder why Philips never made 3G-enabled Xenium mobile phone? with those batteries, we can benefit the 3G hi-speed connection for a bit longer time.

  • I like the design :) cooool

  • not a bad phone, go LBM!!! Atlantic Point all the way!!!!

  • doesnt look that good looks very old lbm till i die danny b & danny h woz ere

  • Looks Good

  • 16M screen would consume more from his battery. 256 is enough, anyway

  • Iz obvious it is good ya!

  • Great!!! Preparing to sell my SE for this fone. 9@9k form with these whole features would be better though..

  • i just tried to compare this phone with SE K750i cos not much different for their specs.Philips has bigger screen, longlife battery for its stand-by only (but beated for its talk time) + Bluetooth A2DP. If the price is much higher than SE K750i, i would prefer choose SE K750i for its better camera result.... But I really like Philips design on this type, sleek & simple. Nice...

  • i like this phone... it'll be hard for me to get it though.. since philips doesnt really manufacture their phones here in the philippines.....

  • 740 hour standby time? Thats a record isnt it? Impressive! thats nearly a whole month!

  • to sammy ....-its not much difference between 16 mil and 256k dude n73 has 256k and how it looks?tell u something it looks like 16 mil

  • Nice styly look n feature also well. i like it.

  • look cool but 256K screen, come on, 2008 already, take it to 16M please :)
