Qtek 8500 - User Reviews

  • Qtek 8500 is a good phone and the operating system suit it very well and i have been using this phone since october 2012 i just don't know how to let go of the phone. since i've been using the phone it has given me no other problem outside the plastic clippers on the back cover. it's a very good phone because i don't use phones this long.

  • I've had one of these for a couple of years and wouldnt get rid of it for the world. Mine is running WinMo 6.1 custom ROM, with SDHC support & overclocked to 253MHz. It'll run DivX files without too much problem at that speed. You can get 6.5 for it but last I looked it wasnt a full UK build. The music controls are excellent, the only things it really lacks for me are WiFi and bluetooth A2DP. If it had those I wouldnt have touched another phone. I got mine for £50 - the only glitch with them so far is the weak back battery cover, the clips are plastic and dont last too well so you have to be really careful. I dont usually do Pink, but this is one of the few pink things I own :).

  • Hi there, this phone is great it works like magic man but the problem with my qtek is that whenever I try to download softwares like adobe reader (Infact specified for qtek 8500) it downloads completely but refuses to open claimimg that the program is invalid for my windows CE version 5.0. plz help am dying to my docs on my phone!!!

  • Hi there, I was very impressed to hear that you've got Windows Mobile 6.5 running on this phone! Does it run well have you had any problems with it? I currently have a PDA and I really wanna buy this phone too so I can synchronize the data on both of them, can you advise where I can get a new one? Thanks.

  • Still have my Qtek almost a year...now running Windows Mobile 6.5 and run very smooth :) Perfect to my daily use: Internet @ gprs, running Opera mini, some phone calls and text messages.

  • Bought our Qtek 8500 over X-mas in Russia -- and lemme tell ya, this phone kicks arse! No problems with it at all. The battery life lasts for 5 days as opposed to what others claim. Not saying they're lying, but I will state that MOST people are not aware that when you buy a phone, you must always let it run out of juice, then charge it fully, and do it again and again. Do this the first 3-4 times you own this phone, or else your battery will NEVER last for more than 24 hours. This is how these batteries work. Buying phones in Europe is much better than buying any phone in the US. Services like Cingular, Sprint, Verizon, etc. always mess with the phones and add their own api's and software, which degrades performance because they eat up the RAM on your phone with so much crap playing in the background. This (more often than none) ruins the phone's quality and limits the performance of the phone. Dropped calls have more to do with your provider than anything else -- that's a fact too! This is why some people love their Moto RAZRs on different networks while others hate it. All depends on what they put on it - and you have no idea what they put on it either, because they'll never tell you. I assure you though, it ain't what you get when you buy it without a SIM card. Overseas, we use SIM cards and can switch providers whenever we choose. When you buy the phone here -- you get the phone to work the way it was meant to work, not the way a service provider wants it to work for you. As an example, I can install a 6MB .jar file (java app) on my phone, but my brother in the US can't even install a .jar file over 250kb on the same phone! Now that is a joke! Bottom line, this phone is amazing -- but BUYER BEWARE -- because unless you're buying it unlocked, you are always open to problems being caused by your SERVICE PROVIDER, not necessarily by the phone. The US needs to wake up man! Unlock the phones and let the people choose their own darn providers! :) Sound features are weak on this phone -- speakers suck. But it has amazing features if you like smart phones. It's not nearly as good as a PDA, so don't buy this if that's what you really want to compare it too. However, the OS (WM 5) is great and and the speed of the OS is VERY FAST. Bluetooth works great and the active sync software with PC's is great too through USB. Who should get this phone? People who want a smart phone that's fast and can read MS documents, surf the web, access email, install games, etc... but isn't really for people who collect MP3's -- the sound is crapola! Videos play good at full screen (beautiful picture quality), but again, you had better be in a quiet room, because the volume is less to be desired.

  • I have this phone about 2 weeks ago. Boughted brand new for 49 :-) It have a nice design and the quality of the material is good. The reception is great, the audio quality is fine and the camera is not so bad. The only bad thing is....poor batery life....day and a half if i make a few calls, sending sms's, push email, music, internet. It's also my first Windows Mobile device

  • I totaly agree, beautiful phone. Wish it had the mini usb port. Mine micro fell out.

  • I did really love the phone - loved the way it looked, the brilliant keypad, the screen was great. The system, too, is one of my favorites. One day the charging port fell out. How stupid is that. it just came out with the charging cable. Reason - none except because they put a micro usb inside instead of the strong and easy to use mini.

  • I am using the same phone and since the beginning of this year my cell has acting very strange. I can not open menu even if i click on menu which makes it impossible to edit anything. It does not ring even if profile setting are on ringing all it does is to vibrate. I would like some assistance. PLEASE HELP

  • I have basically this same phone as the Cingular 3125. Mine restarted numerous time every day until I taped the small micro-switch under the battey cover down. The problem is the cover doesn't engage the switch completely. something about 3mmx3mmx1mm thick should do the trick. Hasn't restarted since (about a year)

  • the restart problem its easy to fix :) just put some glue band (scotch) on top of it...4x4mm or so and it will never restart! Its the best phone ever! I wish HTC would make another more good looking device just like this one with metal body! please no more plastic htc! with wifi and all

  • Welcome 2 the club. I have the very same problem - restarts about 100 times a day. I'm already so pissed on this phone that... Can You please explain more about this little button. I coulnd't find anything...

  • I have the same problem. the phone randomly restarts and i think i got solution to it. There is a small button on the lower left part of the battery (not on the battery itself)on the back of the phone. you just have to place a piece paper on that button to keep it pressed. That works for my phone. now my phone rarely restarts itself. hope it helped.

  • I have a problem with this phone and its that it reboots randomly or if its shake lightly although it doesnt occur always, its just really random could someone help me? or its a hardware problem? i already reset the configs and everything and it still wont work

  • It's just the phone, what're you expex it to do? buying your lunch?

  • what on earth is it? this looks 2 weird to be a mobile!

  • this phone is like 50%good and 50% bad. i jus read some reviews and i agree the battery life is good but the specs isnt so fortunate. the time keeps goin forward like 3hrs. then i cant set mp3's as rintone. the speaker and ringtone is low. 2 many 2 point out.

  • yeh i agree its a bit complicated. wouldnt advise noone on buying this phone, plus it lacks a lot of features. very difficult to work with

  • its a very very good phone ! i'm a htc fan and i had them all... my last phone was Tytn 2 but this phone is very good if you don't need navigation... other then this all the good software work on it... and its fast...and T9 makes typing almost as fast as on a qwerty keyboard... HTC should make another phone like this maybe slimmer and smaller or maybe with touchscreen... The design is great!

  • honestly, i find this phone being the replica of the motorola mps 220...i believe it is as bad as the mpx..

  • this is the worst phone i ve ever had. the menu is a bit strange and not so easy like nokia or even motorola. After one month use i had a problem and the usb connection of the phone(is the same to charge the phone ,to conected with pc and headphones) broke off and i went to the service in greece to replace it.they told me that i have to pay 80euro cause its not a phone problem... i bought the phone 180e and they want 80e for a partr that they told me it cost 2e.Plus that it was not my mistake that the phone broke down.Q-TEQ = HTC in Greece has the Worst service...

  • Put Mp3 ringtones in My Windows Mobile-Based Device/Application Data data/sounds folder for them to work as ringtones and message tones

  • neat

  • I tried downloading MP3 song from another phone to my Qtek 8500 but it won't work. Can anyone tell me how to do that?

  • Be carefull.. I have this phone less than a year and I have a big problem: There is a issue with the unique port it has because I cant charge the battery, some time I cant another I cant. There is a big issue because with one port used for charge, for usb cable, for everithing at the end, the problem appear when the port fail. Be carefull friends

  • have this phone wi-fi, bacase I read different minds in differenst sites???

  • Clemente, you need to upgrade to the firmware 3.xxx or do a factory reset of your phone to get the memory errors to go away.

  • Pls could you help in rectifying my phone it has memory problem and nobody is able to repair it here in africa can i do it online? Data behind the phone.... P/N:99HB011-00 IMEI :358167000308226 S/N:HT623F314345

  • the best phone ! please htc improuve it ! it has a killer design ! please htc make a new model its the best we love it !!!

  • the best phone ever! i also have a htc p3600 but this is nice because its slim and its so star trek :) if you only use it for few apps this phone is the best! i simply love it! i hope htc will make another new model of this! please htc ! touchscreen and pocket pc edition would be great also!

  • hey, can mp3 be used as message alert tone?

  • can videos be played in full screen?

  • Cingular just came out with the latest ROM in March 2007. Owners should go to htc america web site and download the lastest software.

  • Does anybody know how is the audibility of the incoming call.Is it loud enough to hear it in a loud street? Can you create documents? How is the Organizer and how long voice records can you make?

  • in the US, if you have been with the same carrier for over a year, you can ask the carrier's Customer Care to unlock the phone for you. (Just a reminder, the locked phone must be from the same carrier). You can do this year after year.... basically you are entitled to unlocking one phone every year....

  • Just got this phone 3125 from MY CARRIER and I have to say this phone is such a complete pile of crap. I will start with the lock ups when On Line, followed by the dropped calls and the hard & soft resets. All this on my first day. Its clear that this phone has problems and that the company selling it to their customers is also aware of these issues, that why you can buy it for 99.00 with a data plan. But in their deffence they are send me a different model phone with no charges and thats why I stay loyal to them. But avoid these issue and find another phone. THIS IS A GREAT LOOKING PHONE AND AS A PHONE ITS OK AT BEST, BUT AS A PDA NOT EVEN CLOSE. MY TREO-700-P IS TRUELY SECOND TO NONE.

  • Just ordered this phone from Cingular can someone send me accurate, information on how this phone preforms, I will be using it for emails and some Web work not much more. I realize that all phones have their problems but I will be using this phone for calls and need to be sure call volume is good and blue tooth works.

  • hey Thom. i'm glad u found a use for this phone. i don't like mine either. i have not been able to find a use for mine but will try and use it like a paper clip too. lol! Do u know how many sheets of paper it will hold together before the plastic breaks? does any else hear clicking sounds when you are trying to make a call? i am going back to my razr and syncing with moto phone tools.

  • Will Cingular take this phone back because of all of the problems? I have heard that there have been several recalls on this phone. I hate my 3125. No matter what name they market this phone as, it is still a turdphone. I want my treo 650 back.

  • I agree with Thom and sdp. AWEFUL phone. What was HTC thinking? I can barely make a phone call without it locking up. Also the ram is always running out. I have to restart it every 2 hours.

  • I think no one on this dis.board but sdp actually ownes or has used this phone. It is the worst phone I have ever owned. Ok, it does look really cool. The best working feature on this phone is the ability to use it as a paper clip.

  • do not buy this phone. camera is like a cheap vga. reception is 2 bars less than my blackberry. voice quality is poor. i have to restart it all of the time or i wont receive calls. awesome design by HTC but it is still a very bad phone. thing is going on ebay tonight. p.s. i have had 3 new phones since Jan 4th 07. go get a blackberry or a razr if u want a phone that works.

  • I was using the HTC Wizard or Tmobile MDA and wanted something more smaller and compact. This is really a great phone cause you dont find any Windown 5 flip phone out there. Got the Cingular Version of this phone the 3125 but the ROM on it is so old. I unlock the SIM and unlocked the CID so I was able to flash the Qtek 8500 latest ROM 3.6.251.0 and it works so much better than the Cingular ROM, the Qtek ROM does not have the occasional missed call issue. Menus are faster and reception is great. I also went on surrealnetworks.com/mpx and download some free applications for the Dash which will work with this phone. Alot of free themes out there on the internet, loaded some MP3 ringtones and it is good to go. Love this phone, Im a phone freak and I am really impressed. I had 4 phones in 6 months and I am gonna keep this one for a little while until something better comes out. If you have any questions feel free to email me.

  • Can someone help me with the settings on a Qtek 8500 to connect to the Fido (Canada)WAP network? I got a text message from Fido with the settings, but can't seem to co-ordinate the GPRS/Proxy & Internet connection settings on the phone to get connected to the Internet (I am trying to get on the net to check my GMail) Your kind help would be greatly appreciated !! Thanks !!

  • This phone is amazing! I got the Cingular 3125 which is only slightly modified (some extra software, more memory, and bigger battery) and simply love it! To answer some questions: Yes, it supports Push, but I don't believe it is entirely the same as Blackberry's. It works the same way as all other Push-Enabled WM5 phones, however. No, you can not create/edit MS Office documents with the OEM software. There are some 3rd party applications out there, but there's really nothing that's worth it imho.

  • Ihave got the black qtek 8500 model, can i please get to know how to acess/use this phone on my computer (windows xp) the cds seem to install but i cannot locate or open the phone files.Thanks.

  • hi everyone, just wanna ask one question, can this phone create new microsoft words document and edit document? i read somewhere said cannot..... thinking of getting this phone... thanks everyone for reading it, hope some user can give me some information, thanks. appreciate it very much cheers

  • Does this phone have Push Mail? I have read somewhere that it does, and doesn't. I'm seriously thinking about getting this phone. I'm a bit concerned about people saying it has problems receiving calls and locking up. Still it does have Windows on it :-) How easy is the keypad for quick texting?

  • why no 3g and wifi? that would make it perfect!

  • So far this phone does what it needs to do. It's way faster in menu then my i-mate SP5m (HTC Tornado). Only real downside is battery life. It lasts max. 1 day with normal use. Running various applications over the day and making some phone calls reduces battery time to 1 day. Shame. Use it for a couple of months now and never had any issue with it. Good phone, good build quality, poor battery.

  • I was wanting to buy one of these Qtek 8500, I currenty own a eten m600 and it is a great pda but the phone side of things is not as good as most normal phones, the speaker it too quiet, it works great if your in a office, but in the car and out and about is dissapointing. so does anyone know how loud the new qtek 8500 is. Cheers

  • I've had it for a week. One thing is the battery. This is really bad. It lasts for 24 hrs. The phone allso locks up quite often, and then I have to wait for quite some time or shut it off. Up to now, quite dissapointing.

  • This is actually a HTC phone, which I-Mate and Qtek use with their brand. Rumor has it tha HTC will start to sell their own now, with HTC brand.

  • this is the sameI MATE SMART FLIP !!!!!!!!!why 2 different brands has the same cellphone and the same features

  • I bought the qtek 8500 two weeks ago. The phone locks up and you can press any keys until you do a soft re-boot. The next problem I had was not receiving all of my phone calls or text messages. I am not sure if there is an update to fix these problems. As of 08/31/2006, I have not found one. I have not loaded any software on it.

  • it's a great phone till now . i got it from Denmark before 3 weeks and its perfct.hope everyone feel tht same .thanx

  • I just wanna know if this phone is good enought to be compared with the K800 from Sony Ericsson. Thanks, Julia

  • Hi, any idea if it's possible to run Skype on this phone?

  • 3D wiev of this phone:

  • like the phone but can anyone tell me how to save files straight to memory card via bluetooth as built in memory is limited and therefore limits what you can receive, thanks.

  • Hi, I have it since one week and I like it (mostly). It does NOT have infrared. I couldn't get BT sync to work yet but I'm hopeful. Same for debugging with VS2005, I tried to write my first mobile app but I have problems with the debugger. Maybe that works out soon. Thomas

  • i couldn`t find any review?

  • what`s the video recording resolution of this phone? and did some body have some of example photo shots with this 1.3mp cmos? if yes, please upload and link?

  • Two points: i) In MG&C GmbH QteK 8500 has built-in IrDA Connectivity; Compared with gsmarena's ad,does Infra-red really exist in the phone?.Also(ii) mini SD Slot is the card slot listed. Is this the same as Transflash? I recognize that this phone is the same as Dopod S300, Why the price disparity? Reply Pls.

  • I saw www.omnicelusa.com has it for $525 good thing I live in chicago. i can get it tomorrow

  • If u go on , they have an article about this fone that before they were gonna call it the 8500, it was gonna be called Qtek Star Trek! How weird is that, naming a fone star trek, does have any similarties to the gadgets of star trek or was a dummy used in star trek, I don't think so!

  • I would also buy phone that has options you specified emin... can't find such phone :(

  • 't's okay i guess.

  • it is a cliche of a qtek phone. why does pcphone producers added fm receiver on models of their own ppc s? i wanna a ppc with: fm radio gps receiver camera bloetooth v2 without keyboard wifi please produce like that

  • This is a great initiative to make WM5 OS phones also available in Flip format. Bravo Qtek! Just give us the choice from bar or flip format phones! Further improvements desired are: - larger screen (like in Qtek S200) - Wifi - Another desin for the keypad - use standard memory cards (SD or miniSD) - better Stand-by time - better camera

  • Design is to razr like in a sense... as if we need any more.. give me the 8310 anyday over this thing..

  • nice fone.

  • Well acording to Qtek it doesn't so I think that settles it...

  • According to The Register this smartphone supports 802.11 b and g, more than enough for me!

  • I think that it has a QVGA interior display, as all the other current Qtek phones with 2,2" lcd displayes feature a QVGA display. It would have been nice to at least have UMTS and/or WiFi on that phone. And of course a slightly bigger screen as it looks just tiny in the housing (as seen on image).

  • Hey i am the first one to post an opinion !NIce i will do it again
