Have had this phone over three years now, runs unbelievably well. I have done about two factory resets to bring it back to a clean slate. Just wished Windows could get app creators for some of the more popular stuff made it kept up to date, like snap chat, Pokemon, eBay has ceased its windows app.... Overall it wont make me want to change to Android. I find the UI configuration so pleasingly appealing. Live tiles, customizing my app icon's sizes, appearance and location of a multi grid or directly on my start screen is just great. When I look to Android phones or apple, they seem so sloppy and careless in comparison. Having the apps in alphabetical order listed on the next screen makes much more sense to me then a second icon based format, like is done on androids. Besides a lack in popular apps (can't say there are not a good amount anymore, cause there are countless now), my other downside concern is that windows might never pick up the mainstream and be phased out.

Be that as it may, I'm betting any money that apps for Windows Phone 8.1 will be deprecated very soon in favor of UWP apps (Skype being my main worry). For that reason alone, having Windows 10 Mobile would be nice. The phone itself is indeed excellent. I had mine for three years now, still works like a charm, and it had its fair share of drops - even on concrete. I only purchased a new battery for it a few weeks ago, because the old one was getting weak.

This phone isn't meant for anyone who's into social media. The windows store lacks apps and everything that is usually compatible with Android and IOS will not be available to you. If you only need talking and texting then by all means get this phone. Don't be fooled by its pretty packaging, it offers the same technology as a flip phone. If you would like to look hip but do not understand how smartphones work then by all means get this phone and trick people you're in with the trends.

Have been using this phone for ab 2 years now beside that battery is becoming weak no real problems with this phone. What i have noticed is that apps take far longer to be available on this phone compared to regular android devices not using windows ( wapp voice was only available several months after many of my friends already had it ). Even if no complaints i am thinking of purchasing the bb Passport i am an ex bb user for several years and prefer a real key board . Any advice always welcome.

Can confirm there was another large software update today in Belgium. Quite what it does in terms of particular software improvement, it is not that clear me. But, but,....:-)...the phone feels at least 50% faster. Slick and smoother after 2 years, I am quite happy. Can also recommend Nokia Here Drive+ for people who like to hike, cycle, water sports, etc... Great!

You can improve camera performance by using several apps freely available in the W Store. I can really recommend Camera 360 and Camera 360 Sight. Also, feel free to download Photogram, really good photo editing app that will help add some spark to your dull photos (hint: don't just take selfies all the time). Cheers.

Restart the phone in this way: Turn it off, remove back cover, remove battery, leave it removed for a minute, put the battery back, start the phone. See if this fix the issue. If this doesn't help, then hard reset your phone (Factory Reset). Settings>About>More>Reset The Phone If this too doesn't help, get your phone to phone repair shop, but i think it's bad app installation. Anyway, doesn't hurt to try what I suggested you. Report back if you fixed your phone. :)

Well, you don't need customization and flashing on a system that is almost perfection. If you don't like micromanaging every aspect of your phone (like on Android) and you can settle with little but yet many customization WP8.1 is offering than go for the ATIV S i8750. It is mention that it will be able to run on the new Windows 10, but so far anything is speculation regardless to any WP phone. I am not planning to change my ATIV S in near future (read: Until start to fall apart, lol), cuz now with the latest official (not PfD) WP8.1.1 is a totally new device, it is re-born again. I am loving it! :)

You came here and ask for solution, a solution that you can find through GOOGLE if you spare a little time to search. We are user and not much like what you said need to do the CSC code change to get the Update of GDR3 etc. Please bare in mind also, not every consumer have this phone have go thru all tedious work , all need is just Push OTA and click install. What you given the solution is far beyond some normal consumer is able to play around. The international version is unlock and not bound to any carrier.

Actually you are very wrong. Big percentage of the international version are already on GDR3 and most of them installed WP8.1 Developer Preview and it run's great on ATIV S. If you scroll down this comment section you will find where a guy Vladimir explained how to upgrade from GDR1 and GDR2 to GDR3. But i guess you are too lazy to scroll and search. I also explained few comments bellow that ATIV S is scheduled to get all updates on WP8.1 OFFICIAL and maybe even to WP9 if that came out before December 15th 2015, cuz ATIV S is set to be supported up to that date. So whatever came out from MS up to that date will be available for ATIV S. Alternatively you can go to WP Central forums where there is a few ways of getting the GDR3 on your ATIV S and without voiding the warranty or doing the interop unlock (rooting the WP8). Hope with this i clear your concerning's about the future of ATIV S. Enjoy the phone if you have it, cuz it's an awesome phone. I have it and I love it all the way :) P.S. Samsung is already making the firmware, but it's the carriers who need to approve that so their consumers can download it. So, it's not Samsung fault, it's the carrier's fault of latency.

When firstly Microsoft makes it official and OEM's release their drivers for the OS and start pushing them over OTA. When this happens, it depends on your carrier when it will approve the update. Since some countries are stuck with GDR1 and some with GDR2, and their users still haven't got the GDR3, you might see the future when this will be officially available :) Hope this time with the new upgrade will be faster :)

If you are in USA or if you can anyhow purchase it, go for the Samsung ATIV SE, 5" display, quad core and 2GB RAM, but if you are on budget or not that much of a freak about pixels, then go for the ATIV S, I love mine. And I read somewhere (don't remember the site) that ATIV S is on the list for the next upgrades after WP8.1 (yes, including WP9) :)

Yes i know Lumia 930 will come with WP8.1 and i know Ativ S will be updated to WP 8.1. My concern is a windows phone that is guaranteed to be updated beyond WP 8.1, such as WP 8.5 or WP 9, whatever it is. I need a windows phone w/ large screen right now. Lumia 930 is my first choice but it seems Microsoft/Nokia takes a lot of time to release it. My second choices are Ativ S, L920 & L925. but I prefer Ativ S because it has the same Soc as the 2 Lumias, a larger screen and cheaper.

Antutu Benchmark for WP8 sucks, that app is mainly great for Android and iOS, i read (you should try that), somewhere on some sites i found that Antutu for WP it doesn't show real benchmarks, for example for Lumia 920 it gets resolution of 480x800. There are others benchmark tools for WP, use them, find them, do a research. :) And in matter of fact, Youtube has a good videos about benchmarking ATIV S, and in all it came with very good benchmarks. The key word here is: RESEARCH! :)))

Well done Carlos, congrats dude. I got mine (i8750) 2 months ago and i am loving it. I got it for 100 euros on 2 years contract, but the phone alone is around 350 euros in Macedonia. Hope the phone will serve you as long as you need :) All we need now is to wait for the official version of WP8.1 and the phone will get even more perfect. :)

Did not have any issues to adapt from berry with i had been using for several years and a android prone for some time as well. Would buy this phone again any time . Well, if you follow sites like GSMArena (the news section), PocketNow, WPCentral, and similar ones who have tech people whos job is to know this kind of stuff and ofcorse Microsoft's pages regarding the Windows Phone, you might learn thing or two. I can't remember exactly where did I read about this, but it was a reason I wrote to MS and Samsung asking them is that a rumor or it might happen. WYI, WP9 is already in the process of making. I got an answer from MS and Samsung Support that pretty much confirms those rumors but not entirely, but they also didn't say "No, thats not true". If i find the article where i read that i will post the link here so you can read yourselfs. From what i have heard, any WP device with 720p and above will get the WP9 when it comes. don't know about the lower resolution devices tho.

I have just checked and i have to apologize to Jordano, cuz he was right, but that is due a bug in the Windows Phone App, that triggers the WP8 device to get the WP8.1. I wrote to MS about this to ask them and they do admit it was a bug and since no harm is reported so far, they have no intent to fix that or to shut that option. People are free to do whatever they want to do until no harm is made. :) As for me, i have no intent to upgrade to WP8.1 yet, i will gladly wait for the OFFICIAL version to be out in few months. So far, GDR3 is working just perfect for me :)

JunN I totally agree with Vladimir that you been lazy on researching. Anyway, please provide us with all CSC you have on your phone, write them down on a piece of paper and write them here so we can see which one you to use, or you can simply try any of those and see if you get the updates. Yes that will require lots of hard resets but eventually you will hit the right one. The process of upgrading will go (assuming that you are on GDR1) with this order: First you upgrade to GDR2 and all other minor updates after that and then you hit the GDR3. Each of this big updates (GDR2 and GDR3) will take approximately between 30-60 minutes, so, you better keep your phone on the charger all the time while you are updating. To get you the clue about OS Version after each update here is the version you will probably get (at least one of them): GDR2: OS Versions 8.0.10327.77 or 8.0.10328.78** GDR3: OS Versions: 8.0.10501.127, 8.0.10512.142, 8.0.10517.150, or 8.0.10521.155* I myself followed Vladimirs procedure and get the GDR3 right away with the CSC NEE. Actually Jordano your post is totally wrong. To get the WP8.1 Developers Preview you need to: 1. Be a REGISTERED Developer 2. Have a developer unlocked device. Of course you can. Go to and login with your Microsoft account (the same you use in your Windows Phone). Sign the developer program, completely free, and then download the Preview for Developers app on your WP's Store. Check the agreement box and finally go to your Settings and manually search for updates. That's it. Free. No cost. Go to Windows Phone Central website for more info, but it's basically it.

Yes you can if you got a developer license from Microsoft, but you will have to pay a fee for that and you will get the WP8.1 right away. BUT, keep in mind that official release of WP8.1 for the general customers is still not released. What you got today is "WP8.1 Developers Preview", that is almost like a BETA version, so if you are not in the mood of waiting for the OFFICIAL release, then go ahead, buy the developers license and get the WP8.1, but keep in mind that since this is BETA version, it will have lots of bugs, but there are also few awesome improvements too. I almost forgot to tell you that you have to have GDR3 installed on your phone to get the WP8.1 Developers Preview. In case you don't have the GDR3 installed, scroll few posts below, search for Vladimir's posts of how to get the official GDR3 on your phone, its a quick procedure. I got the GDR3 following his simple few steps of updating. If you ask me, i will wait for the OFFICIAL release of WP8.1 which will come eventually in few weeks or few months, since WP8.1 Developers Preview is mainly to get feedback from developers to what to change, what to implement and what to fix for the OFFICIAL release. There is lots of sites who gave a review of the new WP8.1 Developers preview, what is new and good and what is messed up and need to be fixed. kenjamvampodrzavi, no dude, you can't. Have you done that before? Did you restore the picture and data? That restore data is if you have backup your phone settings, contacts and data on OneDrive previously. If you haven't backup them, on hard reset (or someone call that, formating) all data like music, video, pictures, applications, all settings are wiped out. You get your phone back on Factory Settings.

Actually photos can be restored if no data is written over. You need to plug the phone to pc and use data restore program.

What do you mean on USB Card? do you mean internal memory or the SD Card? Not that that matters, but if you hard reset your phone, all photos are wiped down, so that means, good bye photos. If you save them on your SD Card and then format the SD Card (not the phone) it also means Good bye photos. In both cases, you can't return your photos, sorry to hear that if that's the case. Other than that, if you saved your photos on your SD Card and you hard reset your phone, then photos will remain on the SD Card. Hard Reset means going back on factory setting, wiping out every saved app, video, picture, document, etc on the phone.

Yes Shon, thats is GDR3, which is GOOD. Go and change your SIM card, get a real one, and i think when you get that one, your restarting during night will be over. About your restarting during night, i have another theory. Do you have some application like Volume control, blah blah, an app that controls the volume of the sound of your phone? Usually those apps like that, have volume profiles and it changes your volume at night when you go to sleep to silent or minimal. So maybe that app is faulty and cause you restarting your phone while changing the so-called Night Mode of those Volume (Sound) Apps. If you have similar app on your phone i suggest you to uninstall it, restart the phone and see in few days how it goes, if the phone will continue to restart. To know easily if your phone got restarted, before you go to bed, adjust your phone sound to above 20/30 with the volume rocker, so lets say you adjust it 28/30. If the phone restarts, when you get up in the morning, hit the volume rocker and see if the volume is sitll 28/30, if the phone restarted will be 20/30 or even below 20. If that doesn't help, just hard reset your phone (it will keep your GDR3 update, don't worry). You do know how to hard reset your phone, right? Settings>About>Restart Phone. Please do came in few days and tell us whats the results of what i told you to do so everybody can see and learn. Greetings from Republic of Macedonia.

Thanks Boris! OS version is 8.0.10517.150 and that should be GDR3, right? SIM card is cutted so I will try with real micro SIM card first before I send it to repair. My data is allways on, so batery time is shorter than yours. It can go up to 2 days with regular use, but thats rare :-D Except that restarting durring the night, I don't have any other malfunctions.

Most probably is a faulty SIM card. But first of all, did you get the micro SIM card from the operator or you cut it yourself from regular SIM card? If not, than, go to your operator and ask them to replace your micro SIM card with a new one (ofcorse the number stays the same), and if you do that, back up your contatcs you have on your SIM before replace it. Other than this problem, i don't see if its the phone error, cuz if it was, your phone would constantly restarted. And other thing is, do check your phone settings one by one, maybe you need to turn off some settings. And I forgot to ask, which update you have? GDR1, GDR2 or GDR3? If you are not sure, scroll few post below and find a post by me that explains the versions of OS with GDR1,2 and 3. Hope you solve your problem. On my ATIV S (I8750) i don't have this problem, but i do have from time to time (but thats rare) when my phone out of no reason start getting hot from back around the camera and it's draining the battery very fast, from 100% to Turn Off in 3-4 hours, But as i mention, it happens very very rare. Still haven't found why is this happening, cuz i don't have my Data turned ON always (just when i need it) and my Wi-Fi scanner is not turned ON always, just when i need. In normal situations, with average usage, my battery holds up from 100% to 25% mark, around 50-60 hours, which is 2 and a half days, which is pretty much great.

And if you get it with OS version who is lower that GDR3, scroll few post below, search for posts of me and Vladimir, there is an explanation how to get the GDR3 right away without voiding the warranty. i so hate people who come here and just bump a question like this before they do their re-search. You could only scroll a few posts down (below), where i did explain about ATIV S getting the 8.1 update. ONCE AGAIN, Samsung Ativ S and all phones running WP8 will get the WP8.1 update in time, and this time will be way faster than the last Update 3 (GDR3). More of this, Samsung ATIV S is scheduled to get updates even for WP9 (YES, WP9)when it comes. This was a major news on every major mobile phone sites, tech sites. etc across the world. So there is no chance someone didn't find anything about this, you just did not did your re-search. About the bulshit that Samsung is not supporting WP8, think again... it does support it and it will be more and more, like it was in the past with Windows Mobile. They already scheduled the Samsung ATIV SE to be announced. First of all, you should tell me the price they are offering for this phone. Assuming that the price is acceptable by you i will tell you just 3 words "GO FOR IT". I wanted this phone since the day it came out and a year later i got it and since i am a power user of smartphones (never used an Android phone as a daily driver, but i did play with them), I wasn't more happier in my life having a smartphone when i got the ATIV S. It's the best phone i ever had. The OS is stable as it can be, i will vouch that it's even more stable than the dull and boring iOS (any version). Microsoft has offered a 100.000$ reward last summer if any developer can find a serious bug in WP8. I will only say this: The reward still stays on, no one has won it. So far i haven't read that someone with a device who runs WP8 had "freezing issues", even the Huawei W1 and W2 who are running both WP8, have not such issues. If someone has issues of phone restarting, thats either a bad instalation, or manufacturing error, which can happen in any brand of mobile phones. If you want a stable as a rock phone with stable as a rock OS, with a big and beautiful ... wait ... GORGEOUS HD Super AMOLED screen, who can record Full HD videos on 30 frames per second, a phone who might not impress you with the design and color, but with functionality and accuracy, then Sasmung ATIV S is a phone for you. It's a business phone meets fun meets gaming meets perfection. don't hesitate, go and get it, you won't regret a second. And yes, if you haven't experience a WP8 environment so far, it might took you a day or two to get use to it, but WP8 is made so simple that is a dumb proof phone. Ok, first of all that might be a minor update and most probably carrier related, so you are still on GDR2. If you had a GDR3, your Os version would be one of these numbers (8.0.10501.127, 8.0.10512.142, 8.0.10517.150, or 8.0.10521.155*). I will recommend you to do the trick Vladimir posted few posts below and if you have NEE CSC, choose that, if not you might have APO, thats fine too. And sometimes before ask some questions, please do read previous posts, your problem might be answered in those posts. Please do inform us what you did next and next time write your current OS Version so we can know how to help you more effectively, and PLEASE, take a second to write a name when you post. Yes, all devices running WP8 will be upgradeable to 8.1 because this upgrade is not hardware related but its more major overhauling the OS. Now, i am not sure if the requirements to be able to upgrade your wp8 device will be that you have to have the Update 3 (or called GDR3) installed on your device or GDR2 is enough. But for the logical matters of things, I think you have to have the GDR3 previously installed. Some of you who has GDR2 and wait for GDR3 on their device, Vladimir has a pretty simple explanation (see few posts before this) how to get the GDR3 on your device and i will tell you that it's working. I did it and i have now the GDR3 on my device. Changing CSC on your device will result with phone hard reseting but that normal and doesn't touch your warranty, so it's safe. I did it with NEE CSC, and it worked immediately. If you don't have NEE, try with APO. NEE is the Nordic CSC and that CSC from what i have read gets new updates faster than others. Please do notice that upgrading to GDR3 will take some time, maybe 30+ minutes, so whatever you do, do not touch the phone while it installs the GDR3 (or any update). Phone will turn off the screen, but do not afraid, thats ok, installation is still going. When the phone resets, the installation is done. Happy installation :)

Did you cut your old SIM card to micro SIM size? There are problems with older SIM cards and this phone. Go to your mobile operator and buy new micro SIM card (about 2 euros in Serbia). That should solve your restarting problems. That is if you did not hack your phone and get restarting problems because of that. And about CSC codes. If you have GDR3 update you do not need to change CODE. And if you did not get GDR3 over regular update in phone settings then you need to change CSC code as I describe it earlier.

I have 2 pieces of this phone. One is dedicated for Slovakia (where I live), the other not - it is for Italy and doesn/t work well with Slovak SIM card. It reboots randomly everyday, even during phoning. It was in service, they replaced some radio module, but it didn't help at all. My question is if changing CSC code from Italy to Slovakia could help with these reboots. Thanks for any advice.

No problem my Macedonian brother. Greeting from Serbia :) You should leave NEE code because there are going to be more updates for win 8 like 8.1 on summer and same problem will be for update. My phone still have NEE code and I'm not going to change that. So that will not bother your phone in any way. Just do manual settings for MMS and WAP in APN settings if phone does not do it for you. You can find manual for that on web site of your mob operator under manual settings for WAP and MMS.

Thank you Vladimir, i was just going to write you a reply that i made it with NEE cuz my phone didn't had ATO in the list too. So, now I have the GDR3 on my phone and all the procedure went smoothly, tho, before i did anything i spend lots of time searching through numerous forums and sites regarding WP8 OS Updates, just to check all the aspects and don't screw up something, lol. I mean, i got pretty much good in tweaking Windows Mobile devices, like my Omnia i900 (still using it as a secondary device), but WP8 OS is kinda new to me, so better be safe than sorry, right? :))). Yes, after i got updated with GDR3, I returned to my country code which is MBM and stands for T-Mobile Macedonia. First thing i did notice, is that i have way much better battery life than i had with GDR2, which was pretty much decent battery life. Thank you again for your quick tutorial in upgrading WP8 with GDR3. God bless you. :)

No, you do not lose warranty. You can always go back to your old code. CSC codes are just settings for different countries. ATO - Austria, NEE - Nordic. I have tested on my own phone over 15 different CSC codes because I do not have ATO code in that list of codes. So I tested many others to find which will work and find that NEE works. When you putt different code it will give you WAP and MMS settings for that country so you will need to manually adjust WAP and MMS settings for your country if your carrier does not do it automatically. When you click on update in settings win mob will check which code do you have. Because only some countries are getting GDR3 for now so you need to trick win mob that you live there. Some apps like HERE DRIVE + are checking your SIM card and not CSC code.

Are you sure about this method? Will changing your CSC remove the warranty? Did you do this with your phone too, it worked? I mean, the codes you provide are correct, they do work, and I did manage to get into the CSC Converter, I just need to be sure if this is a safe method :) I do own this remarkable piece of device, and I do believe that Windows Phone will get back on the throne where it was with Windows Mobile 5 and 6 before they stopped the development of WM in favor of WP7 and let Android take their place as the only alternative OS for smartphones. :)

If you checked for update in settings and did not get gdr3 you need to change CSC code. dial ##634# then *#321647335 now you will see list of codes and which is yours. Change code to ATO or NEE then phone will reset (hard reset). It will delete all of your data so back up before this. Then go again in settings and check for update. Note: battery min 70% and wifi turn ON It will last for about 30 min and restart 2 or 3 times. After that it will be OS version: 8.0.10517.150 You need to do restart once again by holding power button until restart to get data sens and other programs and features. PS. Samsung does not care for their customers on win mob like Nokia so you need to do all that.

It is a good phone although I have had a couple of problems, one being the slowness of the auto-brightness and having to use auto-brightness because medium brightness is too bright and with low brightness you can't see your phone outside in the sunshine. The other problem is that it seems a bit picky about which Wi-fi routers it works with, solid with some, frequent disconnection with others, must be something to do with WPA versus WPA2 or TKIP versus AES I reckon.

In many forums that I have red there are info that fm radio hardware is there but no driver support for ativ S. Once again please help GSM arena or anybody else. ok ive had hundreds of smartphones.. from huawei to nokia lumia to galaxy even ones like the s duos but the ativ S is faster. bigger more stylish, rotation isnt annoying me like the lumia 520 did , speaker quality much better , camera is amazing, screen is so smooth and responsive no lagging on wi-fi or mobile internet, no coverage issues like the other phones ive had, faster startup, no random force closing and keyboards nice to type with, no GDR3 update here in NZ yet for the Ativ S but i think the reviews for this phone should be alot higher than where they stand now, i give it a 9.5/ 10

Display on this device is phenomenal. This contrast between black and white and all other, can only be achieved with led display. Gliding trough the settings, the text seems to be like 3d, like additional paper sheet on top of the screen. Such contrast is achieved because led technology emits all the light out of the screen. Black is true black. With lcd displays you have additional light sources (led) which shine on the display so what we see is reflected light. In this way it is very difficult to produce true black and high contrast.

This is a really great phone. I was hesitant as my only experience was using a friends old windows phone a while back. Large vivid screen, touch screen is very responsive, apps run very smoothly almost fluid like. The best thing is I only paid $299 at Dick Smith unlocked. Some complain about the apps store as being limited, I guess it depends on what apps your after. I've found all the ones I needed.

I love this phone and WP8 compared to Android the look and feel wins hands down. However my retailer here in New Zealand has offered to refund this replacement phone as both phones have had have serious wifi connectivity issues that cause the phones to stop responding to inbound ip traffic. Seems to me that the phone doesn't seem to handle busy AP's very well and stop responding causing timeout and slow responses. Sad day for me that Samsung favour a refund rather than resolving real issue at hand or perhaps they know something I don't. My next phone will be a Ativ S for sure but probably not a Samsung.

Hi, Its likely that your phone can't 'see' the downloaded songs as they are likely in a different format than what can be used/viewed. You might be able to explore the file by viewing them from a connected PC and viewing the Ativ as a drive.

Hi folks this is a great phone. I do however hav a concern regarding my phone storage. My phone's memory is full. And if i check why is this so i found out that its the music thats too much. But if i go to music/vcideos there is not a sibgle song thats there. I attempted to recieve songs from my other phone via bluetooth and all those songs were received, but when i went to music/videos no songs were found but my phone storage megabyts decreased nonetheless. I dont know where my phone is storing theses songs and i hate this because its eating up alot of space unecessarily. Plz help.

What made the Lumia so different from other Win8 mobile phones is the free built-in speech GPS and maps exclusively for Lumia Users. The only thing about the Lumia that I hate is the heating issue and the short battery life. Well, for me it is short battery life since I am a heavy user and always working with my Lumia 520. But hey, I am not telling you to buy Nokia but please do more research and do a hands-on experience with their Demo products in the retail stores in shopping malls etc. Hope this helps =)

Well, coming from someone who probably hasn't used this phone, take this from someone who owns and used this phone: It's excellent. I regularly get over 2 days from a single battery charge (with moderate use, push emails, wifi on constantly, fb notifications, some gaming), the device is a lot lighter and feels more sturdy than any Lumia, looks far better than any other Windows Phone 8 device, and is still around £100 cheaper than the 920. Your argument is invalid because you're clearly just a Lumia fanboy with no knowledge of this excellent phone.

After 3 Lumia 920 changes, the store gave me this Ativ S, despite my concerns regarding Samsung, but I must confess, it surprised me. Great pictures, pretty stable (instead Nokia Freezes) for a Windows Phone, very light compared to Lumia 920 and the battery life longs for a day and a half. Highly recommended for everyone that have to get a proper business phone with all the office resources you need on your hand and don't want to be plugged at wall all the time.

Hi, Samsung Ativ S is about IDR 5,000,000 in Indonesia market or about in US$ 513. I just got one 3 days ago. Screen is remarkable, but back cover made from plastic make it looks cheap stuff. Battery can sustain 24 hours for normal uses, like open email, browsing, customizing. But I am a little bit disappointed while playing back musics. I can not found equalizer, and sound is so flat. Cheaper Android, Lenovo S890 have better play back music features and sound quality. More review will come after more exploration.

I have both ativ and 920 and the ativ is such a nicer phone aesthetically and the screen is noticeably bigger. The 920 has much better camera and apps I.e. Maps etc but I think the ativ's size and weight is a big winner. Wp8 on a note2 size screen would be awesome

After owning this phone from new for a week I have found 3 problems with it: 1. The capacitive buttons sometimes stop working. Haven't identified what leads up to this happening but you either have to put it on standby for a significant and variable length of time or take out the battery to get them working again. 2. The device is too eager to go to the lowest level of screen brightness which can make it hard to see in lower ambient light levels. 3. There is a mark inside the screen as if someone has used the screen to swipe up and down and then left before putting the final glass layer on. The mark is only visible when the ambient light is very dark but not amused. I will be getting a replacement but I would imagine that issue 2 will be true of all devices and that also at least issue 1 will be present in a number of devices.

I was Nokia fan before but now I like Samsung too. Yes , build quality of Samsung product is not premium but I just love the freedom we get in Samsung like in every phone they are providing microSD card support and removable battery which is good for me. How about email attachments and file uploads? Has it been taken care of? I had a really hard time with my Samsung Omnia W while sending attachments through email. I could only attach pictures and not any other files like say a word document. The only way to attach a word document was to share the file from the file option. And it was horrible when you want to send a reply and not able to attach a file other than pictures. And of course file browse and upload option from browser never worked. I think there will be 4G release. samsung has 4G phones for most of their models. the specs are still not fully provided because of the amount of secrecy put on windows 8 phones. still no prices or full specs are available. the size is nice, and look professional, not funky like the lumia and the HTC ones. I hope the official price for the unlocked not to be as it is shown here

Thanks buddy! - I too believe the 4G/LTE medium is just another new marketing tool, although i do feel that it will be much faster and connection over the LTE/4G would be more stable and reliable, I ams sure it will be just as slow once every Tom Dick and Harry gets on board. As for Windows phones, I have used Windows Mobile 6 on HTC/XDA Orbit 2 and loved the ease of use and the Windows UI, I am dissapointed having waitied for a new Iphone 5 - which was a let down, now firmly back in the Windows phone corner, I can see from the outset the Samsung Ativ S will be a powerful and excellent phone.

I agree on the other parts, but it really doesnt have a good build quality. I saw the GSMarena hands on and I cringed when I saw him take off teh back cover and bend it. Sure, these are light, but it comes at the expense of materials. Sure, in the end Lumia 920 and ATIV S are both "plastic phones", but hte difference is so big that there is no comparison. It's like a frame of a Glock-pistol and plastic bag are both plastic, but one will go to hell and back and the other will offer little to no protection. But it comes down to what you value and prefer, I'm not saying the ATIV is a bad phone by any means, it definitely has it's positive sides but the build quality of this and a Nokia are from so different worlds and I couldnt really call this one well built, or at perhaps well built, but the materials are just horrible.

No it won't support LTE and 4G, but keep in mind 4G is far from being implemented depending on your country, and the Ativ S can still go up to 42mb/s via 3G (LTE is 100mb/s). With a steady 1 Mb/s connection you can already stream any videos on youtube in 720p without waiting for buffering, so 100Mb/s is totally overkill for most users. LTE and 4G are just the new marketing arguments to get those who don't really know what it's all about to buy the "latest" thing. Given windows phone 8 is your thing, and you don't want a Nokia photo phone, the Ativ S is the best offer feature wise.

Honestly 4g is more a marketing argument than anything else. With hdspa you already can get up to 45mb/s download speed. What's the point of having 100mb/s+ second hardware when the operators probably won't allow you to use it at full speed, or you will be limited with the data limit. At 1mb/s you are fine streaming anything you need. So I wouldn't turn against a smatphone because it doesn't have 4G. And without a godly memory storage mega transfer rates won't really get you anywhere.

No 4g? Aside from that it seems to be the best wp8 offer. Sd card for external USB support, good screen, built in fm tuner, Things Nokia and HTC totally failed to offer in one package. Honestly I think Nokia deserve to fail. Instead of offering a Best of the best right away they are going to fragment their offer between products, which is pure epic fail. I'm not a fan of the Ativ s design but it's the only wp8 offer that is consistent for now, at least if you don't mind about 4G. Last hope is Huawei.

People are bashing Ativ S for having plastic body. Please get your facts right, Ativ S has brushed aluminium body. And also please check the actual live shot photos before bashing for design. I have to say the materials used in this phone is way better than all cheap plastic android phones samsung made. I am a nokia fan who is using Galaxy note because of Nokia didn't go android. I hate Stephen Elop like most Nokia fans and that backstabbing microsoft Steve Balmer. (Just read about HTC 8X and 8S). What did Nokia gain by not going android? Your claim that 4.0 is faster than 2.3. I agree with you, but at what cost? Being a Sony Xperia U owner, I am appalled by 4.0's UI, and so do many of my friends who are power users. Android 2.3 may have been slower, but the interface was certainly more impressive. I hope 4.0 doesn't remind you all of Symbian, because I've used a Symbian and I know very well that's the Symbian UI style. Android 4.0 went in the wrong direction for advanced users like us who liked the initial power of Android 2.1/2.2/2.3. I saw for myself the inadequacies of Android 4.0's UI (which, by the way, still isn't lag-free on my dual-core Xperia U although it is not heavily used) and it is one of the reasons why I'll be sure to think more carefully before buying another Android again. In fact the Xperia U became so weak for a new 2012 phone because of Android 4.0 that I had to keep using my December 2010, 1st generation Windows Phone because even something this old was more efficient. (I'd do anything to get 2.3 on my Xperia, really. I'm not the only one who can't stand 4.0.) I was going to get an Android tablet, but it seems that the rumored 199USD price tag for Mircosoft Surface has won me over, especially after I saw how unsuitable 4.0 was for me. I do wish Android the best though, because it WAS the phone of choice for power users due to customizability. (I used to like and want one, back in the Android 2.3 days.) WP7.8 has all the features of WP8 that current WP phones are able to support, and WP7 series support will continue. Well that wasn't much of an intellectual comment, but I'd also like to add that Nokia's Windows Phones will have free navigation too, so drivers can use it as an alternative to often rather expensive navigation software on the marketplace. (Offline maps fully available on Nokia's version) Also, WP8 coming next season, with Augmented Reality, Wireless Charging, higher battery and CPU efficiency, PureMotion HD, list goes on. I expect Apple and Google to be copying these inventions very shortly, so brace yourselves for stuff like 'ZOMG my iPhone has wireless charging it is so innovative' posts all over the internet soon. HW Specs are nice but the OS is crappp! After a year and a half MS will probably do the same: next version of WP will not be supported by the current phones...I did the mistake of buying a WP before, to only notice is a useless device, with crappy Apps in the store and with no way of upgrading it to WP8. (WP 7.8 update is just dust in the face).

Hi adi, Windows Phones were not designed to be clones of computers for mobile (but Windows Mobile 6.5 used to be that way). WPs are now designed to do the most core and important tasks of a PC at highest efficiency with the lowest amount of strain on hardware. This is why you can be doing all your document editing, youtubing, music-listening and 101 other simple tasks at once and the phone doesn't lag although all WPs are currently single-core. If you're buying a Windows Phone, there has to be a change of mindset, that it is NOT a full PC replacement. It is designed for you to do the most common things and get updated with the most common things you need to be updated about at a blazing fast speed. As a review, this ATIV S looks like it is an aluminium cased phone. My Samsung OMNIA 7 was a similar structure to this phone and it is seriously tough. I must have dropped it a hundred times a year, often onto hard gravel and concrete, and the aluminium absorbs all the shocks without damage to the gorilla glass or the internal components. My OMNIA 7's aluminium is seriously dented and scratched, but everything works as good as new after over a year. Samsung's build quality and anti-drop designing are seriously good stuff.

Regarding your other comment about your huge list of other features, 1. Direct downloading into phone from sites is not necessary because it can synchronize everything you want from PC, wirelessly (since early 2011 by the way). The more of such redundant features are added, the more system resources are consumed. And you'll end up with laggy Androids like what we're having now, and only flagship quad-core Androids are generally free from lag (which is stupid because all single-core Windows Phones since the 1st generation other than Lumia 610 have ALWAYS been free from lag). 2. If you need to transfer CUSTOM files (not any of the supported media formats of any phone), please be realistic and use an external HDD or thumbdrive. If the phone can't read the file, then it is pointless to just use up phone space as mass storage. Because phones are not meant to be used like thumbdrives. Just put a tiny one in your wallet for God sake. If you need to do all those stuff you mentioned, on the go, the Microsoft Surface RT and Surface Pro will be available in 1-3 months' time respectively, and THOSE are the ones designed to do the advanced tasks that you stated (and more). With a Windows PC + Microsoft Surface + Windows Phone, it's a seamless tier definition. For all essential, core tasks like using media preloaded, internet browsing, document creation or basic productivity apps, Windows Phone has it covered. If you must, then Surface will do what the WP can't, with similar portability (but the WP can do some stuff the Surface can't, which makes sense). For final overkill, simply use a Windows PC. Microsoft genius for you. It's not extra 'expensive', because a WP7 flagship like HTC Titan II is currently around 400USD, and the Surface RT is rumored to be 199USD. Those two added together is not much more than your Samsung Galaxy S III, but they make you way more productive. I vote for Microsoft also because Google's everything-is-open-source makes things ugly. Like, cosmetically ugly from a badly woven drawing by hundreds of artists.

Not as extensive as Siri, but at least what we DO know is that in fact, Siri copied the voice commands from Windows Phone. Why did you not know, you ask. Because Siri is the main selling point of the iPhone 4S because Apple didn't upgrade much from the previous model, so they had to put Siri on huge billboards and advertise it everywhere. It is just an unadvertised function on Windows Phone, available since late 2010. 2. Application for map with driving navigation is available on the software marketplace, and paid ones are especially powerful, detailed and better to use. If you can pay tens of thousands for a car, surely you could pay hardly 10 dollars for a navigation app. Alternatively, WP's default map application is free, it doesn't have turn-by-turn but there is a constantly auto-refreshing GPS find-me function so it's almost as good for the cheapskates like me. I hope this answers your misconceptions about WP, Sukanta.

Why I prefer Wd 8 platform over Android inspite of its rich appl market is the OS stability. Android OS platform development move so fast that the platform hardly stable beyond 8 to 10 months. In my humble oppinion it's gonna be the best compromise of freedom (mass usb storage, micro sd, sideload apps) and control (minimum hardware requirements, no sense and touchwiz crap, long term update support). If the new flagship lumia comes with adreno 320, it will smoke the ativ 2, and htc and iphone 5 as well. But adreno 225 is good too and wp8 should fly on it.

This problem is not only sg3. big screen plus amoled plus browsing is battery killer. The reason I read somewhere that amoled consumes more battery with whites and of course less with blacks. So as the webpages are more commonly white backgrounds we got this problem. I can't see note II being any better.

Cool phone...nice OS WP8 but I dont get some people...what other way is there to shape a phone? apart from rectangular with smooth edges. Why you want Samsung to come out with a smartphone that looks like a pyramid or triangle with sharp edges? whats the difference between iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S huh?

I have been using android for the last couple of years and had all the great phones like galaxy 1,2,and 3 ,htc one x and so forth switched to windows 7.5 and I have to say have been loving it. It has taken the software to another level. This phone will be the perfect phone as windows 8 allows for an external storage which was the only thing I missed.

If it's the same, then I will sure not going to buy one. Microsoft is working hard for the mobile phone's OS. They added many new features to WP8, but I think they will have hard time with Android around. Today almost every people buy Android phones, and you know there are cheap Android phones as well, but there are NO cheap WP devices. Now you can buy an Android smart phone with less then 200 Euro.

oh you mean for all the apps? it looks as if they would keep it the same, perhaps so Apple wont try to sure them for copyright infringements (smh) i personally like the apps menu because you can jump using the alphabet as opposed to androids, multi swiping menu just to get to the second to last app, but to each his own. i think windows phone did a great job with their new os, except the lack of file explorer, wifi tethering (which is now available for some wp7.5), and no option to change your 'new message' tone which i hope is something they fixed in wp8. also, i HATE the fact that their internet explorer doesnt have a forward option, like wtf? but every accessible feature is great, like their hrd-button camera which you can quickly snap photos, their integration with many sites like fb, and the fact that it limits to 5 apps as opposed to 1,000 like android which consumes CPU and quickly drains your battery my HTC surround, lacking 4gLTE, to me is still amazing, i prefer to use it over my HTC Vivid (Ice Cream Sandwich) which i find Android has soooooo many bugs, as if they say 'here, use this, if it doesnt run too well, sorry but we got better things to do like upgrading newer phone'. sorry google, you need a bigger and better team, that will focus on older devices issues like the vivids 'application optimization' issue that everyone is complaining about and yet, theres an update that was sent out to germany, but not the US, wtf? i thought google HQ's was in california?! smh Windows Phone 8 FTW! =)

The main Menu. You know the Menu in Android is not a list, and it's very cool. In Symbian as well it looks cool. In Meego as well. In Windows Mobile was cooler as well.
