Samsung D840 - User Reviews

  • damage my phone battery

  • My phone is down at the moment for the third time , apparently I have a problem with the screen and the slide connection cable, were can i order brand new repair items , would like to retrieve the items and without tarnishing them in any way.

  • how can i set d ringtone which is in memory card.....

  • what is function of TV-out in d840 plz, any body can tell me . [email protected]

  • Can we recover deleted message on this handset

  • yes there is a FCP ribbon which connects the slide with the main board.Which use to cut due to much usage of slide. This handset is made in such a way that u can see at the back side of the slide it does not get scratched even the slide is used for many times. But in other slide handsets it get scratched. This technique is responsible for the cutting of FCP ribbon.Because beauty is the matter,if your ribbon cuts then u can change it but if your phone get scratched then how could u rectify it.

  • If you want to get java on ur phone u have to have both files of the game or app (.jaf and .jad) but if u only have the jar there are plenty of jad makers on the web. I personally hate that Samsung needs the jad file which is basically a file pointing to the jar. Well let's get on with it. If you have a USB cable transfer your apps and games (or u can simply use b-tooth) punch in *#9998*JAVAINSTALL# you then get "Activated" now you have to locate you jad files(same directory as jars) and simply launch them. The game/app will then be placed in the java world section. Will get back at u with the unlocking codes.

  • What is the difference between t629 compare to this phone?

  • wow! Codes are working. It's cool.. do you have codes to get the manufacturing date? Can you share it to me?please....

  • I have been using my d840 for almost 2 years now and its been doin fine. The model tho considered old for this fast changing celphone technology, is still considered in. Its sleek design (i got the silver) is classy and user friendly. But i had its flex wire replaced after a year of use, (common to slide and flip design)and probably thats the cause of why your monitor goes blank. Replace the flex and it will be fine.

  • Hi, just mentioned earlier that mine is 2 years old and been using same battery since. With regards to its power, it depends merely on your usage and so far its been doin as what the manufacturer specified of its usage/standby time. My trick is once in a while i had its power totally drained before charging it full. Actualy thats an old trick. Thats one way of prolonging the life of the battery. Happy New Year to evryone.

  • I purchased this phone back in june of 07 and i really cannot complain about it. reading all your comments on here i need to be glad that i have not had any with mine. i probably just jinxed myself!! everyone seems to be complaining about the battery here. how often do you use this phone in a day? maybe you ought to cut down on some of that usage?...just a suggestion. i usually have the charger right by my bed, so every morning while getting ready for work i charge it for up to an hour. so i always have full three bars. can someone also put up some nice tricks this phone has? like someone below me had about checking the battery life. that would be cool. thanks in advance to whoever responds to this :)

  • I've owned this phone for one year now and i'm pretty satisfied with it. Try one of the folowing *#9998*HELP# in standby mode and u will see lots of tweaks. Try *#0228# for batt info and if u want java on your mobile put both jad and jar files on your phone in other files folder type *#9998*JAVAINSTALL# in standby mode then go to other files and you should be able to install java (using jad file).

  • This fone is total crap... Although i m samsung lover but this fone has really disappointed me! I hate you sammy i hate you :( I had to sale it on too much loss as the screen gone blank and battery was total crap...

  • three times i repaired my mobile it is only use fr ladies reparing cost is to much . not made for mens.

  • i actually liked it.............i liked the metallic body and the style.never really got any time to complain during the month i had it..........it got stolen.

  • 2 weeks after use , the phone display gone blackout. No drop or misuse the phone.Dealer took 3 weeks to solve the issue.Problem is Display Flex issue. Not a user friendly phone.

  • farked up phone.. the screen went black n white.. then nothing.. had them repaired 3 times.. but keep happening after few months again and again.. samsung doesnt really care about quality.. they think only about quantity

  • how can we use internet with samsung D840 to attachment with computer

  • When i insert a 2gb memory card, everything in the phone completely seized. Nothing responded any more. Is it the memory card's fault?

  • Of course it can play video in full screen, just press number 1 while playing. Also it support 2 GB card without problem.

  • No doubt the phone is hot, sleek and sophisticated but i believe something should be done about the media player. It cant play videos full screen. Besides i cant get a 2gb micro sd for the phone

  • i have always had samsung in the past & wish i had of kept to it, i have recently gone back to samsung as i love how easy it is to use its great one of the best there is.

  • I bought this phone from London but from the day 1 itself I got an issue. Yes the battery does not last for even 12 hours. I have to charge this twice a day which is very frustrating. I changed the battery as well but still the issue remains the same. I am very dissapointed. Can anyone suggest whther you all experience the same issue or else what can I do now?

  • spoke to samsung about this myself, unfortunately the phone only saves messages that you reply to, but there is the option of send only or save and send so you need to select the one you want.

  • Dissapointed with this phone. only nice looking but with bad features. can't use format WAV for ringtone. For MP3 only can play shufle if the file store in memory phone.

  • i would like to know about the text messaging outbox its deleting mt messages right away like its always saying empty?

  • i am using the mobile model d 840 for the last one year. excellent performance. nice look, very handy, only disadvatage is no fm radio.

  • i'm facing a problem with the flexi cable. i had two replaced already but it seems the third one is on its way. does this happens often? Namibia(Africa)

  • I've read several of the comments below and they seem to have similar problems to those of which i have got.I have had my samsung for just over a year and then a couple of months ago the directional keys started to play up and i could not move left or right, since then it has been ok, but then yesterday my screen went white and black in strips and then nothing, when i slid it up i got nothing and the same when i put it back down, i have tried taking out the battery recharging it and allsorts but they seem to have no effect, teh only thing i am now certain of is that i will never be purchesing another samsung item. George.

  • please can anyone let me know how to charge my samsung d840 battery externally as the prongs on the handset where you charge it from are squashed & broken.this has happened to 2xd840 phones i have had in the past & yet my favourite phone ever.thnx

  • wont work on my phone, please rply

  • For my D840 (and U600) 1. Transfer the .jad and .jar files to the 'Other Files' folder on the phone. You can transfer the files from Samsung PC Studio's 'Phone Explorer', Windows Bluetooth File Transfer or just transfer it straight to the memory card and move it over to 'Other Files' from the phone's menu. Create the .jad file with 'Jad Maker' program included. 2. Exit all menus and type in this code: *#9998*4678255#. (*#JAVA*INSTALL#) You should now get an 'Activated' message. Java install is enabled. 3. Go to the 'Other Files' folder and select the .jad file (should be 1kb). Press 'Options' (left touch key) and you should get a 'Do you want to install' question. Press 'Yes' to install. 4. To deactivate the Java install, simply type the same code again. You should now get a 'Deactivated' message. Apparently the E900 is similar except the code to install is *#9998*5282# -> install MIDlet password: 235282 plenty of more comprehensive install guides on the net. cheers ROBBO_NZ robbo_nz at 2007-08-18 09:23 CET: EDIT: On my D840 it was *#9998*52824678255#. (*#9998*JAVAINSTALL#) and the U600 it was *#9998*4678255# (*#9998*INSTALL#)

  • Hello all I have this phone and was quite happy with it when suddenly i started making problems. The problem is it doesnot make any sound while the slide is down. i cant get any call as i cant listen to it. please tell me if your have any idea to fix it.

  • Hi am might get this phone next week but i am not sure looking at all the comments can some one please help me out?

  • How Can i install java applications on D840? When i copy java files into the mobile it doesn't give any option of installing.

  • i got this fone 4 6mos.in my custody but i have problems about it coz when i received messages from friends and i wnted to forward to somebody then it ddnt work no unless u've merize the nos.on the fonebook then u can forward it to anybody else...then i sold it and replace to other brands. but in fairness this fone has a great sex appeal to everyone, right?

  • Battery life is really short which I observed almost a year. I thought it is okay during the first battery cycles so I didnt complain about it. It wont last 48 hours until it became shorter and shorter, and I am not even a heavy phone user and lately the phone will restart over and over again automatically while charging so you cant use it. Last day, I finally dragged myself to bring the phone to the center and until today they are still observing it. I know they will just return it to me without fixing it or even replacing the battery. I am all okay with the functionalities of the phone except for the battery life.

  • Thanks to the crappy reliability of the Samsung range, I now have to spend 300 on a phone for her. At least Samsung won't be getting hold of my cash!

  • I bought the D840 for my girlfriend about this time last year. Everything was fine, she loved the look and the ease of use. All of a sudden last week it started going wrong. First, her screen got divided in half. The top half went all white and the bottom half was normal. She switched it off and then back on again. It seemed to have done the trick. Then a couple of hours later, while we were on the phone it cut off. The phone went dead. She tried switching it back on but all she got was a white screen. She took the battery out, the SIM card and the memory card, giving them a good wipe and leaving them out for a bit - NOTHING! I would've asked for advice on how to resolve this problem but it looks like a manufacturer defect and also past its one year warranty. I never go for the slim look of a phone. I go for praticallity and the sheer brilliance, without messing up. My advice for anyone who wants a reliable phone is pick up an SE. They are always moving forward without compromising anything.

  • to be honest this phone is pretty useless. i have had a problem with the screen going white and flashing, as well as not being able to use the directional buttons. after sending it away, had to wait forever for the bunch of useless people to send it back. when i got it, lost all my photos etc as well. and now it has just done the same thing again...

  • I am facing same problem like others of disply going blank.Iwas told that some FCP ribbon was cut. Raju

  • I bought D840 in Nov'07, within 2 months the screen was all white which I feel is common compliant because when I visited gallery there were two more people who had same complaint & though its expensive you cant change message tone also. I am not at all happy with Samsung.

  • I bought this phone 3 months ago. Like many others, I fell for the design of the phone. Within 3 months the phone had problem picking up signals!. The problem was not sorted out with the customer care people. I am really regretting buying this phone.

  • man this phone sucks bought the phone last year and within 3 months the display went suddenly white and then never came back fortunately i lost the phone so could not repair the phone i will never buy another samsung phone in my life

  • Hi Friends, I own a black D840 and was quite happy with it until few days ago when I tried to change keypad's tone from "silent" to some other tone on trial basis. But when I tried to put the keypad tone back on silent, I found out the option saying "keypad Tone" was not highlighted anymore!!! I've tried whatever I could but couldn't manage to highlight that option. I'll really appreciate if someone could send me an email on my address "[email protected]" as it'll be easier for me. Thanks in advance, Shahnawaz Khan.

  • This phone is expensive only for its looks not features. you can't change the message tone , Theme (only two default ones) , cant background the smp3 player. sound is ok and battery life average. Approach Cautiously

  • BE VERY CAUTIOUS WHEN CONSIDERING BUYING THIS PHONE. I did a lot of research and was initally very happy when I bought this phone. However, it has a generic fault where the internal slider cable fails regularly causing the screen to white-out. THIS HAS HAPPENED 4 TIMES IN 9 MONTHS!!! I purchased mine through a parallel importer in New Zealand and received terrible service from Samsung NZ due to this fact. Great phone just make sure you get a 12 month warranty and an additional 6 month warranty everytime it gets repaired (which may be often). Sorry Samsung, but your appaling service means i'll go somewhere else for my future mobile phone purchases. C Kelly

  • hi can some one please help me, i have just bought a new D840 and for some reason my light/flash does not work i have looked through all my setting and manual and i cant figure out why it does not work, could some one please help me to solve my problem. many thanks in advance.

  • hi guys , i wanna say something .. this mobile has another colour which is silver. they didnot write this specification in the specifications on gsmarena .. they wrote that its colours are black only . this is just i wanted to say. bye

  • Dear friends I am not able to find out call divert facility in my phone. Anyone can tell pls.

  • Hi guys, I have a prob with this phone...when i get msgs i see only the numbers and not names though the names are there in the phone book.....can anyone help me out on this?

  • hi friends,i have this phone its very nice and stylish, but there is some dificulty to use tv output, can anyone tell me how to use this function on our tv screen?

  • Stylish design, but sounds like speaking underwater, had replacement but same problem with the new one. Also, sounds like the call has been cut off halfway through, but comes back on again. Wouldn't recommend.

  • i bought one of D840 model, it's really wonderful, but really i face a problem in downloading the Arabic language on it. I'm staying in Malaysia, Kuala lumpur is there any guide plz?

  • I was really happy when i bought it. it took me 10 min to select the mobile. But i guess, there is a problem with the display which went cranky suddenly after 2 months. when i went to service centre, they just replaced a bus inside. they didnt even ask what other problem i had. they even had a replacement pouch ready. thats when i wondered whether the same problem exists in other mobiles too. Being a samsung fan, it wasnt a good experience.

  • Just got a Samsung D840 and I'm v pleased with it, but have managed to put the wrong SMS service centre number in. Can anyone tell me how to delete this so I can enter the right one?

  • The phone is really annoying, with no software compatibility it's a thing to palaver for its users already. Even the servive centres arn't good enought to regard the problems quickly. The battery back up is just 13-15 hrs on stand-by..rather say the battery is faulty. I advice not to buy such a toddler with just chrome covering and nothing else and flaws everywhere.

  • Hi i've seen a mobile that looks the same like D840 but in chrome is it the same one or else? another thing is chrome an old fashion or is it coming back thank u all

  • great looking phone, tough as old boots, great pics when holding phone very still. just one problem, cant seem ta play music ive downloaded on a memory card, any ideas!

  • Hey m confused between D840 & E250reloaded which one should i buy????? Please help

  • hello guys! im planning to buy this phone. is it a good phone? please advise. thanks! =)

  • It has some facilities but the battery life is too short . The sound quality is not good it can,t recieve more than 150 sms .it automaticly ends the call and the processor speed is low.it took 1 minute to open 30 images on memory card.

  • My bluetooth on my samsung D840 when faulty 7 days out of warranty . Spoke to Samsung and were not interested in helping then I had the phone repaired at company recommened by my service provider. A month later , same problem - repair company closed down and no one around to uphold guarantee on phone. Spoke to Samsung again - Not interested . I feel once the sale is done , Samsung gives no customer help.

  • had it 9months great, screen has gone white n crazy today n im not impressed at all, apparently its happened to other people2!!!! carnt even look at my messages!!!arrr!! defo taking it back!!

  • very short battery life - less than 2 days on the second brand new battery that they've sent me.how many of you have this problem? also the speaker quality is very poor with a metallic, tinny sound on most calls including the 121 voicemail service.anyone want to join me on a march to downing street to take this further?

  • I have had this phone for 3 days now and am disappointed with the quality of the speaker. Either on normal or hands free setting the quality is not as good as my old D500. It sounds a bit like it is being put through some sort of voice Synthesiser giving the caller a computer like quality to their voice. The mic also goes quiet when near my computer so that the person on the other end can barely hear me....my old phone didn't do that. Has anyone else experienced these problems or is it a fault with my handset only? Yes....the battery life is also VERY poor.

  • THIS PHONE IS GREAT! i just got it today! TIGHT FEATURES *themed wallpaper is animated based on service (good service= clear skies, bad service=Cloudy skies)birds fly during the day and commits during the night.. - and changes on location e.g. USA has the statue of liberty. or like europe would prolly have the leaning tower or something as a wallpaper.. *radio shows what song is playing on the station. artist name and song title * has a flashlight * lots of internal memory * has all the basic features a normal samsung but has more options. -ringtone alarms can be music, stock tones, or dl sounds. * camera is average. but that doesnt matter cuz i have a digi cam. * speakers are pretty loud. overall this phone has cool features and a fantastic design. light weight, thin and smooth slider. the ONLY CON that i ran into so far is the middle 'I' button.. sometimes it gets in the way of scrolling. since its elevated i sometimes push it on accident. >> i will soon post a video on this phone and it's features soon

  • Absolutely awful. Had replacement phone - still no good. Does not hold charge - standby time is less than 3 hours (so up to 250 hrs is way off the mark!)

  • The phone hs a flash mem of 80 mb and not 70 as stated int the site specification sheets..

  • does anyone know how to get games onto the D840?

  • this fone is looks cool but the problems i am having are:- 1.this fone cannot apply themes like in SE or Nokia 2.to apply a full screen wallpaper photograph must be clicked by the fone.... can any one help on this????????????

  • is there anything atall that makes this samsung different from others, there are too mnay of the same i personally think, just in a different model but with exactly the same features..they bore me!

  • Someone please HELP! Ive been using the phone for three months and of late it started behaving strangely. The problem with the phone is that the screen flashes continuously when I access my contacts, games, my files and when I input data i.e. typing. It becomes permanently dull/dim when I open a photo, game and maybe some which I havent noticed. It flashes more when set to a black skin than when on a white skin. What could be the problem?

  • Someone help me please! I've been using this phone for 3 months. From last week, it started behaving strangly. The problem with it is that the screen flashes and becomes dull/dim especially when it's on a black skin. It does that more when I access the contacts, my files (photos), games and when I type like when searching for a name in the phone book and text messages. What could be the problem?

  • After 30 seconds the screen goes black and you can't see time or any missed calls or texts. How do you change this. Is this a fault or am I missing something with the settings?

  • Can anyone tell me why my messages don't go into my "sent items" folder once a mesage has been sent ??

  • can u set ur pics as a wallpapaer??

  • a very good handset with all features except fm

  • ...................i likeit................

  • Hi. Thnax Manoj for advising me how to increase the vidio capturing time. Now i have another problem, 1st is that k let me know that how could i set any ringtone on sms massenging, 2nd is that how i could i save caller rong tone, means diffrent tones for different caller. if any one know that, plz let me know, i'll be thankfull...

  • You can go to options > Timer > set it to off. Then you can capture a video till you want.

  • deciding between d830, d840, and z370... is it true that you cant set your own photos as wallpaper with the d840?? sad. can anyone give me pros and cons between these three models? thanks a lot! wudve wanted the v3xx but everybody seems to have razrs already. hoping to join the samsung family. goodbye nokia and sony ericsson! =p

  • This phone sucks man.. looks great but many important options are missing. 1. If u can't hide contacts stored in phone when u r using sim contacts -visa versa ( both the contacts will display) 2.Very few tone will vibrate and ring at the same time. 3.U can't make a playlist of the songs which are stored in memory stick ( can u belive this) 4.No default outgoing msg save option. 5.U can't hide time and date in wallpaper. 6.Displays memory card symbol always on wallpaper(god knows y) 7.No Fm. 8.No data cable available with the box. 9. Battery life is very low. Even though handsfree and cahrger port is same.

  • Looks great.....but battery life is bad..i have to charge it daily

  • Hi, i just buy Samsung D840 Before 4 days, i like the set but i'm little confuse about camera, i dont know how to increase the video capture timeingi have juse the timing of video capture 10 sec to 15 sec) & watching the video clips on full screen, if any one Know the function of that please do tell me that how chould i set that thing.. i'll be very thankfull.. bye

  • HEY i am thinking about getting this phone. Are there any major problems with it & would you recommend it?

  • Hi - Have had my Chrome D840 for approxd. 3 months, love the phone, just a couple of problems, low life of battery it needs recharging every other day, also when I recharge it seems to loose the test message service centre number, thus, when sending text's I have to input the service number manually, also, is there any way of changing to ring/vibrate mode as opposed to having vibrate/ring mode. Have a nice day, Cheers

  • every day alarm option is there with the phone. I couldnt find any accessories for the phone. its unavailable..not even an external battery charger

  • D900 is expensive but u get a additional battery and external charger with it + 3.2 MP camera. if u can afford that go for it. D840 battery is not tat good. D840 is a good buy and i am happy with it

  • when u sent out going text select the option send 'save and send' then it will be saved to ur phone while sending sms. the phone will only vibrate in the silent mode...no sound

  • hi people this phone is excellent the only problem i am having is finding games for the phone can anybody please tell me where i can download free games thanks i will be waiting for a reply??? thanks

  • can someone advise me as to whether the D840 automatically saves your outgoing txt messages or whether you have to choose the option for it to send, and also when you set an alarm for the morning and your phone is on silent, does it wake u up or does it just flash on the screen. And finally can u select your own sms tone or can u only have the ones that samsung provide. IF anyone could answer these questions please could they e-mail me. Thanx

  • its a great! great! great! cell . i will be buying it soon. ha ha!!!

  • I have been using it since 3 months and its real good attractive one .....

  • I have the K800i and its fantastic. If you turn the general backlight down it saves the battery life alot and you hardly notice the difference. I liked the look of the Samsung D840 too when they first came out but they seem to have alot of problems with them. Stick with the K800i. The camera pictures are 100 x better.

  • samsung d840 or sony ericsson k800 ?? currently have sony k800, but its like a brick, battery life was supposed to be excellent but i think its poor. does the d840 have the option to set the alarm to go off automaticcly everyday on its own ? or do you have to keep enableing it every night ? really like the look of the d840

  • Great but everywhere says it has preloaded games but where are they? Please help

  • nitin bhai ! wat are u sayin ? u got this thing only for rs 12000 ?? did they give u warranty ?? is there any limitation for the sms inbox ?? ( serius issue ... as some fones hav dis limitation regardless of available memory card ) can u put passwords on inbox ? thanq.

  • Hi guys! ...i get this phone today!! ...id like to know, how to make kejpad mute in normal mode(loud)?? ...becouse in sound settings there is a options for keypad tones, but it is in black(so i can not change it)...why????? Please help me!! Tnx

  • The samsung D840 comes standard with 6 Wallpaper images and 14 ringtones what you can do is download music you like (i.e Akon - Smack That) What ever you like and when you select the music you want you click on options then set to ringtone. It's as easy as 1.2.3. Same with wallpapers you can take a photo of anything and set to be your wallpaper. Good Luck P.S. I love my Samsung D840

  • Hey guys! How do you do? Please help me with something. I just got this D840. Now I have a problem with data transfer using the bluetooth service. I tried getting some things from other guy's devices but my phone promts me to enter a pin/password to match with those guy's pins/passwords. Tell me about this pin/password.

  • Is it also possible to set your own mp3 tracks as a ringtone? Or as SMS alert? Thanks!

  • Hi, I am using Nokia N73 music edition and Samsung D840 (Crome). I like D840 rather than Nokia 73. I dont find any issues of freezing and other problems with D840, phone is real cool and design is excellent. I hate my Nokia N73, real slow phone even when anti virus is disable. SAMSUNG D840 is a good choise and I am happy with it. DELHI PRICE AS OF MAY 27 2007: Rs. 12,000 /- FM: NO CALL RECORDING: YES (may ppl dont know about this option) MP3: Yes (but speaker volume is not loud). Resolution: Clear Video Format: mp4 (real good) Camera: 2 MP (but Nokia 73 is better, it has 3.2 MP "good results") Design: WOW! :-) I have added 512 MB micro SD (Rs 999 /-) thanks n regards, Nitin [email protected]

  • dis fone is sick man well mynz iz anyway cuz i got de crome 1 init it is rassid man respec

  • There have been (justifiable) complaints about the absence of a ring+vibrate setting. The following works for D840 (other options may also work): - Download and run PSM Player v5.41 (psmplayer.com) - Open any WAV or MMF file you wish to use as a ringtone - Click File > To SMAF > SMAF 40Poly, and you get the SMAF File Setting screen - Ensure Max Size is large enough for your file. The D840 can take just about any reasonable size, so you can put 3000000, e.g. - CHECK the Vibrator box, and to the right of that, select a CHANNEL between 1 and 10 (11-16 result in no vibes). A bit of testing shows that the vibration is affected by the Channel. e.g. CH 1 vibrated to a half(?) beat of the music, CH 7 had a continuous vibration, but for one ring cycle only, CH. 10 vibrated to the music non-stop, etc. Some values result in a delayed vibration (i.e. RING then VIBRATE, in effect). Experiment yourself, and enjoy!

  • what quality do people advise to use when taking pics and filming clips? fine, super fine, normal etc? are they all pretty much the same?

  • I do get the same problem. Battery backup SUCKS !!!

  • thers one thing annoying to me is tht wen the phone rings like 2-3 seconds it starts to ring in a low volume then suddelny it goes high volume, is ther any solution for this problem or is it just the way it pos to be

  • please tell me : 1. whether this phone can play videos in full screen mode or not? 2. does it capture videos at 30fps or 15fps & in which resolution?

  • Press the key '1' to get a larger video size. Try the 'cowon jet audio 7 converter'.(MP4) Charge it in switch off mode at least 10hrs within the day of buying. Xilisoft converter is good too. looks great, function good, camera needs good setting skill as well as video recording. ISO settings sucks.File viewer works.very good not the best.

  • love the phone but after 30 seconds the screen goes black and can't see time or if had missed call or text. changed dimming and back light settings and still the same. Is this a fault or am I missing something with the settings? help

  • Clamond: If by dictionary you mean the one used when writing a text message, there shouldn't be a need to install it. Simply press the * sign for a long time and it will go to dictionary mode. Not all words are programmed in it though so if the word doesn't come out right, you'll have to spell it manually first. The next time you use that word, it will then be spelled accordingly by the dictionary mode of the phone.

  • Hello Friends.... Can some one tell me how to install Samsung Software like dictionary ar? Or got any wedsite can let me go to visit to visit Samsung(dictionary software).

  • M3s@: U mentioned the battery life is long. How long does your phone last with average usage of the phone?

  • I have a question about the Metallic D840... Is it already available?? What service carrier is it with?? Cingular?? Appreciate feedback!!

  • just got this phone this morning and find it reasonable, its not to flash its practicle and you can store quite a bit. I gave up a D600 for this phone from someone who really likes samsung its a nice phone but it dosn't stand out and you dont get any cool stuff programmed in so falls short in some aspects.

  • This phone really won't save your sent messages automatically. It will always ask you first if you want to save it or not... vicp84: Only the size of the text in the Dialling Display can be changed and only if you use the 'Normal' Font Type. Or if you want, alhtough there's only a minor change in viewing your messages, go to Settings, Text Messages, Receiving Options then turn the 'View in the vivid mode' off. Mat: I don't think there's a way to fix them... qqq: Nope. It's quite easy. Just like any other phone, you'll just have to get used to it first.

  • is it really hard to type long messages in this phone?

  • I have just got this phone and love it, althought there are a few things i really dont like. Cant vibrate and ring for an incoming call Cant vibrate and tone for a message Does anyone know how to fix either of these as they are really annoying. Other than that really nice phone, looks really stylish compared to everything else out on the market.

  • Does anyone know how to set the text style to small permanently, not just for when you write a text? As it's huge when u read and write a text.

  • does anyone know how to send and save automatically on this model? i had another samsung model before and it did it automatically wioth text messages?

  • I work as a manager in a phone shop and found it hard to pick a new phone for an upgrade, it was between a K800i or a D840, I took a chrome D840 and I have to say it is 1 of the best that I've had definitely. It is true that it's "only" a 2 megapixel camera and it may not have as good resolution as a D900 or even a D600, and it may take a bit of time to read media off a memory card but if you're like me and you use a phone for just a phone most of the time then this phone is a brilliant phone - with good battery life too. Plus every time I bring it out of my pocket people find themselves staring at it because everywhere you look, most people have either K800i's, D900's, W880i's and N73's, the D840 stands out. Excellent phone

  • i just bought a d840 i like the phone verymuch... but i find the battery full indicator is not being displayed even after 8hrs of innitial charging...moreover the phone keeps charging even after 8hrs of charging when plugged in again...can any one please help me in this issue...

  • Anybody know how to get an MP3 as your alarm? All the default ringtones are really annoying...

  • You really won't miss a lot by getting the D840 over the D900. The only big difference between them is their camera. So if you want a thinner phone, then get the D840 but if the camera is important to you, go with the D900. The D900's weight is also lighter but its material has a plastic feel to it.

  • anyone can tell me D900 and D840 which one is better ? i like the D840 design but it seem like all the features is lower than D900.. any suggestions ?

  • John Willis: You need to download the Samsung PC Studio in order to Synchronise your phone to the pc. Here's where you can download it:

  • Just got Samsung D840 and am not sure how to synchronise with my pc. I currently use an Orange SPV C600 phone that is microsoft compatible and so can sync' using Microsoft ActiveSync.....can I yse ActiveSync with my D840??? Or must I have a different programme & if so which one? Any help appreciated. John

  • i just got the samsung d840 but i dont know how to turn off the automatic keypad lock can anyone help me ?

  • I've just bought a 2g memory card for this phone, but it seems that I can only hold 120 songs on the music player as there are only 4 playlists holding a maximum of 30 songs each! Does anyone know of any way to just enqueue my entire song list so that I can play anything from my memory card in randomm rather than selecting a different 30 songs each time?

  • Hey Guys & Galz Hope everyone's Well? I was wondering if the D840 Silver is any different to this normal D840 other than the colour? It look realy nice therefore i have already ordered it. Does anyone own a silver version and is it any good. I currently have the D600 which ive had for 2years and absolutely love it, no issues at all. Samsung Rules!

  • Unfortunately, you can't set anything else other than the 10 default tones for message alerts. Also, the wallpapers are there permanently. I too haven't found a way to delete them and I really don't think there is a way. -------- As for saving messages in the memory card, I don't really know as I haven't gotten one for my phone yet but I don't think you can as there is no option to save messages in the MC. The only option I see is for you to move it to the phone memory.

  • can i save msg in the memeory card using this phone? thanks

  • thanx john, that was a great help! i think i should get it. thanx once again!

  • I have an E900 and now the D840 which is in Samsung "Ultra editions" and boy i love it much more then my E900. Its basically a E900 in a prettier casing but for some reason it looks a lot cleaer and sharper..maybe coz the screen it bigger but out of the two I rather have a D840...smaller memory but hey its dont matter as it has an optional memory card function and all tht touch sensitive on th E900 will drive you mad if you have big fingers like me! lol Not sayin th E900 is bad..in fact its excellent but get the D840 instead, perferably in chrome ;-)

  • How can I change the tone when receiving messages? It don't need to be mp3, midi sound is fine. But I want to have my own midi sound, not the 10 default sound. And I have one more problem, I can't delete the wallpapers which are on D840 already, i mean they are already there when I bought the phone. Can anyone help plesase? thank you very much.

  • John: I'd say ya, get the phone. If you previously owned a Nokia phone then decide to get this, at first you'll see that this phone doesn't offer that much. Many features that Nokia phones have are not in this one. However, after some time, you'll get used to it and see that the phone is actually very useful. 2 weeks into owning a D840, I really wanted to switch back to my Nokia one but now, I really love this phone! I realized that I didn't need the other features such as Profiles in Nokia phones. It has good sound and picture quality! The 2.0 MP camera is not so bad unless of course you compare it to the 3.0 MP camera of the D900. And what I really loved the most about this phone is its size! It's very slim and I barely feel it in my pockets! I like that! I don't like phones that are heavy and I feel are bulging out of my pocket. But just like all phones, there are still downsides. One is its battery life and its inability to assign MP3 to message alerts. Things that I've come to accept and adjust to and I'm sure you will...

  • should i get this phone? is it a good phone? is it worth spending my money on? should i spend my money on it? please tell me what you think! fanx!!! i need your help!!

  • Johnson: I got the D840 since it's slimmer. The other features don't differ from each other too much anyway... Lucie: As for the color orange, yup, there is no way to change/remove it. Sorry for the confusion. When downloading songs, you can have someone send you songs through bluetooth or simply download the Samsung PC Studio so that you can transfer songs from your pc to the phone using a cable. If your phone didn't include a data cable when you bought it, then you can just get one I guess in any phone shop. The program is actually easy to use. Anyway, here's the site where you can download the Samsung PC Studio:

  • e900 better memory 80mb which d840has 70mb better battry and alot more styleish

  • Does this phone support voice dialing? Nothing in the manual says it does...but perhaps one of you can clue me in? Please reply directly to my e-mail of: [email protected] Thanks!

  • you can change the skin. Either black or white.. Go to Display Settings then Skin... -------------- thanks for that but is there anyway to change the orange colour? doesnt seem to be .also the message alert doesnt have virbration and tone at the same time. seems to be a very basic thing that isnt available. if im out and its busy u have to switch it to vibrate only and when u are in the house you have to switch it to a tone unless u carry it around with you.. Also is it possible to download songs onto your phone if you arent on broadband. i see you can download something on the samsung site that helps you to put files onto your phone but as im a useless with phones it seems all pretty complicated the phone is very nice to look at and it was free as part of an upgrade but tbh its very poor interms of hardly any ringtones (14!!) and wallpapers. my old samsung X640 had more features and xtras.samsungs are nice to look at but maybe i might be better going back to nokia next time

  • get the d900 whats up with u people much better or for the ladys e900 in pink on o2

  • just got d840 last friday after d600 thought it was an upgrade but i guess not still only 2 meg camera lost ability to lock files individually also alarm anyday tick box gone message vibrate then tone gone its only one or other charged d600 at night this ones a night light whats that about? it is flatter in pocket but not as nice to hold ear speaker is tinny on a call think i might put sim in old d600 it looks nice in silver thou

  • I got the samsung d840 a few days ago after upgrading from a samsung d600..I am soooo disappointed. The handset itself looks great but everything else that could go wrong with it has! Firstly it chooses when to make a sound when it rings. Sometimes you hear it sometimes the screen just lights up! this is nothing to with the settings as ive checked and checked again. I initially charged the phone for 24 hours but after I had made a 20 minute call the battery dropped to one bar!! The battery is terrible and does not give you any warning that it is going to switch off!! The charging point on the phone is fiddly and not very well designed. Also the sound through the phone when on a call is tinny and echoing!! Maybe i got a dodgey handset i dont know. Fortunately all these things happened within my 14 day exchange so im going to exchange it but I think its put me off samsung for now! Nevermind..

  • Justin: You can actually search through songs. Just create a playlist that includes all your downloaded songs or whichever ones you like and while in the music player, press the "Up" button and a list of the songs will appear for you to choose from. Lucie: Yep, this phone definitely doesn't have wallpapers unlike the D900, but you can change the skin. Either black or white.. Go to Display Settings then Skin...

  • it look good it feels good and good for sms and all features are atleast above average

  • is it just me but isnt there anymore than 14 ringtones? other than what u can download yourself? seems pretty poor. also lack of wallpapers and ability to change the colour away from the orange skin. if things can be change please could someone advise

  • I got the silver one (T-mobile T629) in December. The phone overall is great. I'm always using it. Here are some pros and cons... Pros good looking strong - i drop it all the time and still don't have any dents on it awesome reception a bunch of features big crisp display the voice recognition is amazing the phone stays clean.- my motorola got all nasty after using it. this phone looks exactly the way it did when i bought it tons of space for contacts and calendar notes. views regular html - that's a big feature that i didn't respect until i had the phone for a little while. Micro SD!!!!!!!!! -i might put a whole movie on the phone... Cons -sometimes it randomly resets - i was cooking a pizza and i had the timer going on it, then it reset and the timer went away. Anyone up for some extra crispy pizza. -It cant handle java files above 190kb so i have to give up some fun games. -The music player is loud in a quiet room but when there's a conversation going on forget it, its not worth waisting the battery. sometimes i dont hear it ringing in my pocket. -The menu is not spread out correctly. i find myself using only two of the icons most of the time. -The battery life sux if u use it but all phones have that problem. -O yea i remember when i first got it it was hard to slide. eventually i got used to it. -You can't search through videos or songs, you can only skip play pause and stop it looks like more cons then pros but im being real picky. the phone is awesome and quite addicting.

  • I haven't encountered anyone with that problem yet so I'm just guessing here... Try checking your Settings. Incoming Call then Alert Type. Perhaps it's set at either Vibration only or Vibration then Melody that's why you don't hear it...? Also, check the format of the song. I think it will only play songs in MP3 format, although I don't think you can actually load songs that aren't in MP3 format into the phone. I haven't tried loading an MP4 format or any other yet so I wouldn't exactly know.

  • I have change my ringtone to a song . But after that, my phone doesn't ring when I got phone call. When I return it to default ringtone, it still works. The MP3 I set as ringtone can be played by D840 if I use music player. Any one can help please?

  • Terri: The D840 does have the facility for "Vivid Messaging" but it doesn't have the theme feature... Ness: Unfortunately, you can't set MP3s as your message tone. You can only use those that have been pre-set in the phone. MP3s can only be used as ring tones.

  • I have had this phone for two weeks now and coming from a strictly Nokia background I have been real surprised. I love it. All I ever want in a phone is a camera to use in those spontaneous moments, a phone that looks great and the ability to have great ring and message tones. The only downside that I have yet to conquer is that once I have downloaded a message tone from the web I can't actually work out how to set it as a message tone as it has automatically stored in my music files as an mp3. Any one out there know the answer?

  • Hello, Can anybody tell me whether this phone has a "Theme" feature for a wallpaper and also does the phone have the facility for "Vivid Messaging" as well. I have the D900 which has both these facilities but a friend of mine is getting this phone and is wondering if these features are in the phone. Thanks x x

  • The D840 is a nice phone but just some little thing they should of done to make it much Better why only 1.2 Bluetooth the D900 has v2.0 and why only 2 and not 3 MP the D900 has it all but the D840 has the looks they are only little thing and the D840 is newer

  • I bought the Silver D840 recently and I love it. The functions aren't so bad. The only down side is the message tones. We can't use Mp3. There are only a few tones for messages. The D840 is worth buying.

  • I recently had an upgrade to this samsung D840, and I am well happy with it + the added bonus is that it is lightweight and very easy to use, mine is in Silver & I absolutley love it. I had the Samsung Girlie phone before Samsung E530 in lavender Pink, I love samsung phones, never had a problem with them!!!

  • I purchased the samsung D840 in silver just recently. It was a toss up between the samsung and the LG shine. Im so glad i chose the samsung as relatives have bought the shine and some have already been returned. I love my new phone ! Features are great .. good memory plus u can add in a memory card to make it even better. Camera is reallyyy good and the phone itself is good looking! The alarm goes off when the phone is off which is goopd and you can put a lock on messages etc which i like. Really pleased !!

  • Can anyone tell me how bright the flash is on this phone? does it compare to the sony erricssons? also does it have auto focus? if not is it a missed feature ? tnx Nwtn

  • I am wondering if anybody knows if you can use the alarm on this phone when it is switched off. I have a sony erriccson atm,i switch it off at night and still wake up to the alarm in the morn, i like this feature and wonder if this does the same????? tnx

  • Nick: Unfortunately, yes it does. There are only 3 Alert Types you can choose from: 1. Melody (makes the phone ring only) 2. Vibration (makes the phone vibrate only) 3. Vibration then Melody (makes the phone vibrate first, then plays whatever ring tone is assigned)

  • Ive never had a samsung, but upon research have found that numerous samsungs does not have the ability to ring and vibrate similtaenously? This seems somewhat odd, as most fones have had this function ever since vibration came out!! Does the D840 suffer from the same problem?

  • This is just a glorified D800. Rubbish. JK @ P4U.

  • Julia: You can buy the USB cable I guess from any cellphone accessory shop... Although for some, the phone comes together with the cable already. As for the software (Samsung PC Studio), you just download it at the Samsung website:

  • can u look at messages whilst your're on the phone? something that LG chocolates can do and does it have security codes for every section? i.e messages ?

  • the samsung d840 is a bit like a women, slides into shape when you want it to, you turn turn it to silent, very thin just like my wife (i wish), looks attractive just like me, and you can turn it on very easily.

  • Hi I live in NZ and look for a USB and software to download files from my ph to the computer. Can anyone have an idea where to get this? cheers.

  • Hi you with the white screen your phone needs a new flexi ribbon fitted on it this happens to alot of samsung mobiles the flexi ribbons come lose easily on Samsung Mobiles thats why the D500 an E800 phones might have looked good but alot of people ended up with the white screens on these mobiles very regular, see if you can take it back or get a new ribbon fitted

  • My D840 is just displaying a white light on the screen, any ideas as to the cause of this. It wasn't dropped or anything

  • could sumbody tell me y shud i upgrade my d820 to a d840. dont mind the cam. feature wise and looks. and ifs there is really not much diffrence. advantages and disadv. tanx

  • I am thinking about swapping an LG Shine that I purchased this weekend for the 840 (Shine is very nice to look at but some of the features are dissapointing). Can anyone confirm if the 840 has voice dialling? If you are listening to music, and answer a call, will the phone automatically restart music aferwards? What is camre quality like? Thanks Adam

  • Response For Nick, The handset does come in silver and is very nice. its similar to the LG Shine but alot better features wise. but also the same as the D900 which has a 3mega pixel camara, so in a sense you are down grading camara wise, which is a shame. so go for the D900.

  • Yes I work at Carphone and we've got these in silver now. Looks very nice and shiny!

  • Very well made phone. Similar to the d900, but not plastic feeling. Also the screen looks like its not gonna smash as easy. My collegues boyfriend just got one from us (CPW) and likes it.

  • Can anyone confirm that this phone is also available in silver? Carphone says yes, but i cant find a silver model on the web. im thinking about getting this over the D900 on the basis that it comes in silver. So many people have a D900 i hate having a phone that half my lecture hall has.

  • This phone is basically an E900 in a thinner body with real keys instead of touch sensitive stupidness! ;-) Only thing we can find different is that it has A2DP which is nice.

  • It is available at the carphone warehouse now

  • fr: This phone is almost the same size as the D900 but a lot thinner. It's heavier too. The material of the D900 is different which makes it lighter and have a bit of a plastic feel...

  • is this fone smaller than the d900? becuase the 69900 is too big for my liking.

  • Ive had this phone for a month now and I can say that I REALLY LOVE IT! After getting used to it, it actually is a very cool and useful phone! However, coming from a Nokia phone, (this is actually my first Samsung phone, everything else used to be from Nokia), I still have a few concerns. The first 5 problems, I still wish this phone didnt have and rest, well, Ive learned to live with them 1.When charging, the light is always on. 2.The battery life is VERY short especially when making calls, and using the MP3 player. 3.It doesnt allow you to choose between the Phone Memory and SIM Memory when viewing your phonebook unlike in Nokia phones. It simply opens both at the same time so if you store a number both in the Phone and SIM memory, 2 entries will appear. 4.When texting and youre in the Abc mode (not abc, 123, or dictionary modes), after putting ANY punctuation mark, the letters automatically become capital. 5.Allows you to store ONLY 1 number for each category: mobile, home, office, and fax. Nokia phones let you store more than 1 then you can just set a default number. 6.MP3s can only be set to call alerts and not to message alerts and the alarm clock. 7.When sending SMS, it still asks you whether you want to save the message or not. It doesnt automatically save the message in the SENT folder. 8.There are no special characters for texting I believe those were Chinese characters that they took off. 9.The Shortcut Menu is limited. Not all the features / applications of the phone can be placed in the shortcut menu. For example, you cant put the Memo application in the Shortcut Menu. 10.When setting the alarm, it doesnt say anymore how many minutes or hours are left before the set time (doesnt seem very important but it was something I really liked from Nokia). 11.Pictures that are set as wallpapers should be taken from the phones camera for it to be applied to the entire screen. Otherwise, if the picture was only sent to you or downloaded and you used it as wallpaper, only half of the screen will be filled. 12.The SLIGHTEST nudge will cause the picture to be blurry when taking photos especially at night and even with the flash. 13.The camera of the D840 is not attached to the portion that you slide up which makes it exposed all the time and can therefore get scratched when you place it on a table or any rough surface. Unlike the D900, the camera is attached to the sliding portion so when you slide it back down, the camera gets hidden and is not vulnerable to scratches. 14.There are no Profiles (Silent, Discreet, Loud, My Style, etc.) which you can adjust / edit accordingly.

  • Raul: Well, there are only a few things you can do to actually make things better, so I suggest you check out your camcorder settings... Set the Recording Mode to Normal. Size, Quality, and Viewfinder settings are up to you but i have mine on 320x240, Normal, and Full Screen View respectively, and the video works fine. And your Audio Record option i guess should be set at AMR and not Off.

  • Ray: With regard to the caller not being able to hear you, either that's a network problem or a phone defect... Not too sure about it. About the microphone, or perhaps you mean switching on the speakerphone...? When making or recieving a call, just wait for a small logo of a phone to appear at the bottom of the screen and just click the button with the "i" on it. When using the voice recorder, no need to activate anything... Simply press the record button and you're good to go. The microphone doesn't need to be activated or anything...

  • i have problem with my phone in video mode, the sound is verry bad, i cant setting my phone to repair that..

  • how can i switch on the microphone on ???

  • i havr a problem if some one can help me.When I get a call I can here thr caller but thr caller can not here me is there a setting to be fix.

  • Hi. I previously had samsung e780 and its durable and had no problems. I own now a samsung d840 just to change the form factor of my phone. At first, I was so pleased sliding the phone. : ) But my classmate told me that her samsung sliding phone always have slidling problems. The ribbon, connecting the keypad to the lcd, always break twice!! Are the ribbons of samsung sliding phones generally durable? I really love to slide my phone.... :c

  • To Peter I am not too sure about screen cracking, as I do not know anybody who has this problem on both the D840 and D900. But I can tell you that both of these phones should not be dropped on the floor. Due to the thinnes and the slide mechanism, it will most likely disintegrate if you drop your phone hard. The screen attracts loads of finger prints. You will find yourself cleaning the screen very often. The rest of the body is ok.

  • Thanks YY I think I will go for D840 cause i prefer a little bit heavier phones.I think D900 is very light, and to tell you the truth I don't like the screen of D900 as it cracks very often(judging by all the comments here).Do you think the screen of D840 is better in that term? And what about finger prints on screen and arround? Thanks in advance!

  • To Peter The D840 feels subjectively better than the D900 interms of build . The D840 has a metal feel to it as oppose to D900 plasticky feel. But one thing worth nothing, is that the case of the D900 is suppose to be made with a lighter magnesium material (and hence the light feel as compare to D840). Is really quite subjective and it depends whether you like heavier phone (D840) or a lighter phone (D900). The slider is smooth with just the right amount of spring tension. Not too strong that will cause your phone flying when you open it. As i said b4, i enjoy opening and closing it so much that I keep doing it even when i am not using the phone. If you need a better camera, then you could go for the D900. Also if the price of D900 and D840 is not too far off in your country, it might be worth while to get the D900 also as i noted that D900 has a better sales package (with the TV-Out cable and stuff).

  • Compared to the D900, this is definitely thinner. That's why I like it! As to the make of the phone, the D900 is much lighter, and it kinda has a rubbery feel to it. The D840 has a much glossier finish to it... One thing good about the D900 though is that the camera is attached to the sliding portion of the phone. So, when you slide it down, the camera gets hidden and protected unlike in the D840 where it is exposed all the time.

  • this is thinner than d900!

  • To YY What is the quality of the construction comparing to D 900?Is slider good and smooth?I think it is a pretty good and nice phone,I find it more atractive than D900.

  • Answer to Keita's questions: Yes for both. Can view full screen video and can zoom in to photo while viewing.

  • Happy New Year to ALL!!!! After another week of use, I have discovered another shortcoming of the D840. Potential buyers take note: Ever wonder why this phone is bundled with 80MB of internal memory and a cardslot at the same time??? Well sad to say, the external memory is only good for music and Mp3 files. Almost any other thing you have to access it from the phone memory. This include the word, excel, ppt documents. When taking picture and video with the phone, it automatically save the files to the phone memory, and there isn't any option to switch the default to the external memory. This means that your video recording length is only as much as 80MB, presume that you have nothing else in it. Although the phone offers an option to "Move file to memory card" as a means to free memory, but i must say that Sony Ericsson implemented the memory management much better. Only music files can be accessed directly from the memory card. Otherwise you will find yourself move files to/ from the memorycard quite offen. Well, depending on what you use the phone for, i would still recommend this phone for its size and form factor. I constantly finding myself taking out the phone from my pocket and slide it up and down (just for the fun of it). Music fans will find this phone good enough. But it is a bit short in the photo taking department. The memory management department is also a letdown. what a shame as this phone has the best screen to view video, and 80MB of video is not alot.

  • can u play videos on fullscreen? zoom in pictures while viewing them? If so then i'm buying dis phone! pls reply asap ty! kamsahamnida^^

  • They have dis phone here in the U.S. in T-mobile but it's called Samsung T629 and also dey took out alot of features it's 1.3 megapixels and has not flash but has voice command and also micro SD slot and it's silver

  • I bought this phone initially for my wife and I was all the while using a SE K800i. However, the plan changed after I use this phone for a day. I end up giving the SE K800i to my wife instead. Sure, in terms of functionality, the SE K800i would outscore the D840, having 3G, video calls, 3.2 mega pixel, radio, and used by James Bond. That was why i bought the k800 at the first place. As time past, i realise that most of the feature are just "nice to have" in which I hardly use. And this is where the D840 show its ace. The D840 has one feature that every user would appreciate and use, it size. It is just so wearable. It has everything that I need and nothing that i don't. Sometimes less is more. The D840 also feels subjectively better build than the SE, with a better LCD screen. In my opinion, samsung have the best screen among all cellphones. However, I would just like to share some of the negative points about the phone: 1. Poor talk time. For heavy user, the phone might not last even a day. I hardly get an hour of talk time with an average of 30 mins music and 5-10 pictures. 2. The screen lights up while the battery is charging. Nothing major, but i just don't like it. I feel it is hurting the screen. 3. For user who likes to use lots of camera, I would not reconmend this phone. Go for the SE K800 or even the W810 (I have both of these). The SE is just much better. 4. The SE have better UI. I just feel that the D840 would need a couple more clicks to get things done as compared to the SE.

  • fretis: Capturing pics during the daytime or in well lit places doesn't seem to be a problem. At night or in dark places, try using the flash and get pics that are close by. Coz even with the flash, unlike during the daytime, the phone's camera can't capture images that are too far. At least, that's what I've experienced in this and other phones...

  • i am thinking of gettin a d840.but i saw its camera last night and it was very very dark? is the phone camera like that or just a setting was wrong?did anyone has a camera problem with d840?

  • CJ: Thanks for your quick reply, really appreciated it. Since there will be phones with more and more megapixels in the coming months/years and I don't intend to print large posters, I guess I'll go for the d820.(No offence to everyone who has or prefers the d840). Both are very wonderful phones, but I guess the most important thing is "what will you do with it?" and not "what can it do?" Just wanted to replace my old VGA cameraphone with something more modern, that's all.For better shots I can always use a digital camera. Once again, thanks.

  • Adl: A rotating lens is definitely a plus! However, between the D820 and the D840, I'd go for the D840 simply because its a newer model, has a 2.0 MP camera, and slimmer. And also, i personally think it looks better. You can still take pics of yourselves without the rotating lens anymway. You'll just have to find the right position or angle to hold the phone i guess... However, if you're after the quality of the camera, then go for the D900 because it has a 3.15 MP camera. Although not as slim as the D840 anymore and still, no rotating lens...

  • Hi guys, I'm not so sure if I should buy the d840 or d820. Personally I like the d820 but am not so sure if buying a phone with less than 2MP is such a good choice? Is the rotating lens of the d820 something which you'll miss in the d840? My current phone has a rotating lens as well so maybe that's why I like the d820 that much I guess.I usually used that feature to take pictures of me and my girlfried together so just curious to know if you can the same without such a lens (d840)? Please help. Thanks in advance.

  • have had this phone for 3mths now and it been great but as i saw another user sed it BROKE!! the ribbon that connects the lcd and button on the top to the actual phone broke...i cant seem to get the replacement part so i would sey if ur gonna buy it be carefull and worry about repairing. if not then get it its SEXY anf sleek an is the THINNEST SLIDER EVER!! D900 is bigger (FYI the D840 is also known as the D848)

  • I have a D840 and comparing it with the E900, it seems that they don't differ that much... I'd suggest you go with the D840. They both have the same specifications but with the D840, it's Ultra Slim! Unless of course you don't want a slimmer phone...

  • Bizzy D: As for this phone (SGH-D840) yes, you cant use mp3 files for the alarm clock and for the message tone as well. You can only use those that have been preset in the phone. However, mp3 files can be used for the incoming call tone. (Im not sure about this but I heard that the Samsung D900 eliminates these problems) With regard to the speaker of the phone, its pretty loud. Switching on its 3D Sound mode makes it well, loud As for the flash, there are three options you can choose from: off, on when shooting only or permanently on So yes, by choosing the last option (permanent) I guess you can say that you now have a flashlight Hope this helps

  • Is it true that "all" Samsung phones are unable to use mp3 files as alarm tones for alarm clock??? It is very crucial for me to know this as I rely on my phone for a loud alarm feature from loud speakers... Also, is the flash able to be used for a prolonged flashlight? Or does it only function upon taking instant pics? Thanks to those who reply, and please do...

  • it is not glossy black

  • Hey guys, who can tell me about the looks of this phone. Is the casing a glossy black finish as opposed to the D900 matte black finish? Any info would be good, thanks

  • Is it normal for the screen to light up all the time during charging the battery? My other phones will only light up for a short while during charging. If the light stays on it might cause burn-in to the screen. Thanks.

  • Charles: E900, D900, D840, D520, T809 and D820 they have they share the same cable USB, the reason i know it because i've transferring music to my friend and my brother , T809 and D820 when you have service with T-mobile is free and 50$ rebate, D520 is 50, but get 50$ in rebate, D840 pay 140$ for two year contract, and D900 230$ for 2 year contract. For some reason, the box contain D840 don't include the cable, but it work with D520 cable, i've never try any different samsung model than the model i listed above. Personally, i don't like using Samsung, first because i don't like slider as much as clamshell, secondly, you get what you get (can't customize by upgrading new firmware), thirdly, they are very picky with application and music file, better watch out for mp3 and wma song that not in the proper format, the phone won't play. but everything include with the phone is cool already.

  • hey this is the best phone i eva had it is mint an a porno phone 4 looks nothing comes close kk catch

  • This phone was great when i first used it. stores20 sms on sim card and i think close to 180 on phone It does not ring and vibrate at the same time, the sms tone cannot be customized.(only has the ones they provide) BUT mine broke.. some wires in the slide broke and the phone dosnt power up. It was really good in the beginning, because i would close it and open it without having to be careful likethe V3 back then.. but it just didnt last long enough for me.. But i still recommend this phone, maybe get the newer one with the 3mp camera, but the outter coating is like rubbery, whereas this one is like more steal like which i enjoy

  • i bought this phone and it just suck alots of problems with this phone. first one is charging, batter finished in 2 hrs not even warn u about battery, turn off by it self no service got replace with Sony Ericsson W810i its de best good camera and battery is gr8 and with aosum service

  • good camera alright phone nice design aswell

  • d840 is not a speaker fon d900 is! thats y this is thinner bt i prefer d9

  • D900 is thicker than this phone????...i thought D900 is the thinnest slide phone for samsung.....n does this phone vibrate n ring at the same time? cos E900 doesnt...it vibrate 1st then only it rings without vibration....this is the main drawback of samsung phones....i didnt buy E900 bcos of this....another thing...it says here that this phone can view Words, PowerPoint files just like E900...but E900 cant do that...i think this phone cant too...anyone can clarify???

  • hav any1 bought frm eoticphone.com???????

  • If u don't have a D840 then don't criticize!I like good phones.I've looked 4 a good phone for months & after a long thinkin' I've bought a D840.I gotta say that it's the coolest phone I've ever had!

  • The T-Mobile T629 looks the same as the D840, but the T629 has a lower resolution screen (176x220) and a 1.3 mp camera. Too bad :(

  • I am using this D840 phone. it is very slim.. and it has cool UI, makes me smart~haha.. but.. there is weak point, no extra battery and accesories,..that is why I have to buy pouch, and strap.. anyways d840 is Cool~for me.

  • I owe a V3x , but i do like D840, because is has a cool appearance. Both of them are cool phone, loaded with good feature, especially the ability to read multimedia file such as real music one thing that many mp3 phone couldn't do

  • @iba3 Not sure where you saw me criticizing Samsung. I've been a samsung user for long and loved it.Some people know me in the forum as sumsang fan in fact. One son of a b***h was bashing all samsung models in the forum...that a$$hol even used my name to post nagative comments. His cheap postings are mosly deleted by mod...but few still remains. But the damage is done. hope you understand. Cheers!

  • phone is worth every penny.. e900 is annoying.. does not feel cheap.. good overall phone..

  • i'm sick of reading few comments of Kal or whoever who made the worst critic towards this phone . You people might have made lots of people loose the hots/desire for this phone and you people only listened to what others say about samsung which its not good or whatever but you should at least should have own or be a customer of few samsungs before making these kind of worst critics ever . you should reconsider what i mean . If youre smart enough then go create a new cell phone brand which is real good . I know this phone and know its feature well . Another function of this phone is which is if you lost it or if someone stole it from you , you can locate the location of your Samsung D840 which is what most cell phone does'nt have . If you wanna criticize the samsung D840 , then dont say things such as terrible or the worst cell phone . I feel sick reading those sick comments . Re-consider .

  • check the model number whether it is correct

  • Appreciate your reserach work "Atanas". Just a little correction, Moto is in the second spot with 21.8% market share. Cheers!

  • I forgot to add something about brands marketing: In the last months Nokia has about 35% of the world market - Samsung is the second competitor with about 11%. When you are the world leader and something like monopolist - Nokia, you hardly will sell high-quality phones with small profit. Just see the price of the new Nseries, and compare to the other 3MP phones. Although Nokia is only phone manufacturer, Samsung produce TVs, Cameras, Pcs......... Samsung has the resource to invest in low-price high quality phones, to steal the markets from Nokia. This is just a market strategy. When Samsung become a kind of monopolist with two times more market place compared to the second manufacturer, may be samsung prices will be a lot higher. But in this moment is much more relieble to invest your money in high-range brand Samsung than to the cheapest Nokia. In other case you pay an extra money only for the Brand, but not for the quality.

  • In fact, I did a big market research for about 3 months. Most of Nokia phones are sturdy and stable, but thay had very poor (low quality) features. Moreover, most of them hav high SAR radiation level. Not good Sony Erricson has high quality features (not very rich but enough features for a standart mobile - like camera and mp3). But they are known with extremely short-life construction quality - scratched screen and surface, f*cked up joystick - theese things are law for SE. Although the quality of cameras for exmp. Samsung: Samsung has not the best bateries, but in most cases has the lowest radiation level! D600 has 0.4 w/kg, x700 has 0.19w/kg -amazing. k750 for exmp. has 0.99w/kg. 6630 - 0.85 w/kg and so on... Samsung phones are the most featured non-smarth phones on the market: well, still fast like normal phone (smarth phones are vary slower - no doubth, and much more unstable for a phone - just annoying). Almost every newer samsung phone has Picsel viewer - for viewing MS Office docs like Nokia Nseries - but a lot faster. Well, I think this is one of the most wanted function of so called smarthphones, considering this is a phone, not computer. Samsung has a lot better cameras than nokia and a lot better video than SE. In the construction quality samsung is a lot better than SE and compared to Nokia. I can say that becouse my girlfriend has samsung e720 on 1 year and it is looking like new, altough she had dropped it a LOT! Finally, In my research, a find out that samsung d600 is the best price/quality/safity(SAR radiation)/features phone on the market.

  • Kal, you have never seen anything yet!!! This phone 's build quality is questionable. It soung creaky & the plastic feels cheap & is actually cheap.

  • Samsung doest use cheap plastics and they are knwon to have the best slide mechanism in the market. Thats what all the reviews says.Go read. and STOP USING MY NAME to post negetive comments.

  • Made of cheap plastic and the slider action sticky and creaky. Terrible.

  • lisa,if jamaica cell provider uses the gsm system then this phone will work.

  • Know a friend who has one, the slide action is sticky and feels very cheap! Not my kind of phone. Sony-Ericcson is the new Nokia :P

  • does this phone let you use your mp3's as ringtones? or does the software allow me to edit my mp3's and turn them into ringtones? can i create mp3 text message tones?

  • i thing that this is the best phone that ever created

  • do you have one? have you used it?

  • Already available on the market for long time, son. Why should we care if it's going to be available at T-mobile? The outside navigation & it's surrounding keys are not sensitive & hence difficult to press on this wide phone(horrible).

  • This phone will be available August 31st from T-Mobile

  • All the new generation Samsung phones have different design faults. They all feel cheap & look cheap & problems arise after a short period of regular use!

  • does this phone have belt clip?

  • samsung rocks nokia SUCKS nokia users change it to sony ericsson or samsung or motorola

  • does this phone work in Jamaica

  • d600 user why dont you just switch to another brand of mobile phone. Try Nokia and maybe this will make you happy.

  • This is coming to US on T-mobile as T629, but as usual it wont have the same features. Got FCC approval along with x820(which will be released as T519) in July. Cheers!

  • One more problem I found from D848, the LCD again, its viewable angle is POORER than D600 again. Is it SAMSUNG using lower class LCD to lower the production cost???

  • no this is not the D900, this is the upgrade to the D820. u can find the D900 if u look at the samsung phones as well. the D900 has a 3.13mp camera and is 12.9mm vs. the D840 2.0mp camera and 11.9mm

  • This phone called D900 in singapore. Out in market on 5th Aug. Without line $798 Line at $698 cheers

  • only 2.5 hrs of talk time! this phone is going to get alot of complaints...

  • i have serious doubts with the battery performances d800 which is the older version of this has 850 mAh but this one has 700 only what's going on samsung?? there are things that you shoudn't compromise and battery life is one of them. God who cares if it's 2 mm thinner or not people still got to talk before minding their features and etc.

  • I tried it from shop.. so far alright, great design. However 2 MAIN problem I found.. (1) Slow card reading! I tried to read pictures and movie from my 1GB T-Flash, the reading files list is very slow!! Reading videos/pictures into player is very slow!! (compare with Samsung D600, D600 around 4-5 times faster!!) Any new firmware can fix this?? (2) The screen is very yellow!!! I hope you catch my meaning.. like, when showing a WHITE color wallpaper, my D600 shows WHITE, however, D840 shows more dark yellow... (Of course I set the LCD setting already) Any one can help?? I want to get D840, however, the card reading speed and the LCD made me disappointed :(

  • it looks great , I'd like to see a review of this phone

  • Any hand-free? Can it save the photo directly to the mirco-SD card? Anyone can tell?

  • D820 is Quad Band and this is not, saks.

  • Hi, Looking to upgrade, can't decide between: Nokia N73 SE K800 or Samsung D840 Here is my problem, I have all my contacts in my Adress Book on my MacBook. Nokia and SE are supported through iSync but Samsung are not - but I would much rather the D840... any other way to upload my contact data to the phone??? Thanks

  • Terrible response exterior keys!

  • I just love everything about this phone, it will be the best ever, having said that, the thinness will take out its character...the D820 isnt that thin but it has this curve that make it the "FERI" (Ferrari). Also, what is with the keypad??? i thought they have proved it not so good with the D800? Otherwise it would be prefect! it is going to be my next phone in 2 years time (maybe)!

  • only black? I want ivory color or the other color cell phone.that is very thin but color is not my color.

  • Hey mate, hehe yeh In US we get the junks when it comes to cell phone. It will take another 5 years or so to catch up. I use GSM so that I can buy unlocked latest phones. Most of the Samsung models does't have Ired. I assume they did their market-research as well and there has to be a reason. Cheers!!

  • Hey mate, actually live in Australia ;) You're speaking for all of the US population...damn! I thought the US were the last to receive new technology, so Infrared should be way cool LOL I'm SO joking! :) The latest Nokia's, SE's, BenQ's and LG's still offer IrDA, so I let them do the market-research for me and say: it's still popular. This goes for most of the GSM market I think, but then again the US is mainly CDMA so I don't know. But last time I checked your CDMA models weren't exactly "advanced". cheers, Harlekkin

  • @Harlekkin If you are in Japan, then there is no point arguing. There are reasons for Japanese models to carry it. Here in US and most probably in many other countries we simply don't need it. USB and bluetooth are enough. ---and when I said MP3s i meant music files. I'm well aware of AAC+. Cheers!!

  • @ Kal well, I use the 903SH which STILL has IrDA & Bluetooth, as most MODERN JAPANESE phones do. Give me some credit, I use a CARD READER for transfering any file as Bluetooth is too slow. Though M2M is done via bluetooth of course. You're way behind if you still use MP3 - efficiency is called AAC+ v2. Talking about catching up with time... IrDA still has it's place and it will be a disadvantage to SOME not having it. Can you live with that? Harlekkin

  • I am currently on a IBM Thinkpad the T42 issued in 2005. It houses both bluetooth and of course Infrared. Infrared is implemented when bluetooth is either interrupted or when faster more private transmissions between devices are needed. When I had my S710 SE the bluetooth was still thinking when IR was transmitting

  • i have this phone cos i own samsung and its great. i reccomend evry1 to buy it

  • @Harlekkin Which most modern phones carries Ired...you are talking about SE/NOKIA?, they kept it so that peps who are living in the past don't compain. Its good to see Samsung not using it and the rest will follow. Which laptops/computers has Infrared!!. I'm using them from 90s. Havent come accross with any. Yes bluetooth is not yet common in computers and laptops, but there is a thing called USB for that. That makes life much easier to trasfer files. I cant just imagine that you are using infarred to trasfer all those mp3s and videos to your phone.

  • Ugly looking phone with lousy features!!!

  • i would like to know how much mermory it can handle? 1gig or 2gig or maybe more???

  • crazy crazy!! SO THIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • this is for Bliss: you are correct it is such a shame it doesnt have infared. however you pe-narse it has bluetooth which is slightly more important and useful you toolbag. what do u want to do infared you trainspotting photos to your mates u brown eye!

  • this phone's great, id rank it 9.5 out of 10 its features r amazing...slimmer than the razr......great picture quality

  • I have seen the set (photo) it looks good. But I need some clarification bout its features. D820 is having a problem its keypad tone cant be turned off. Does this set also carries the same demerit? ? Does it has 128MB card along with the set? ? Can the camara be rotated like D820? ? And finally can anyone tell me what is the expected price in India and when is expected to come? ? ? Anyone can mail me at [email protected]

  • Hey! The phone looks great!!! Im eagerly waiting for this. Can anyone tell me how much this will cost and what is video resolution of this phone. Is it as good as D600??

  • i like it
