you can't transfer memory to the external memory card. You can only store what the phone memory can store,i think it's about 200 texts in inbox, 200 in sent messages. But the inbox storage can be expanded if the sim card can store messages. So if your sim can store 50 msgs, then you can store 200 plus 50 msgs in inbox :D

I have a G400. It got damaged by water only last week... It still works, I think, but I can't recharge the battery. I took it in to have it repaired today: I _SO_ hope it can be repaired. Only 2 years old: it would be a sin. - The menu is very user friendly, no need to search for functions or settings. - Keypad is nice and big (main reason why I bought it). - 5 MP camera with autozoom(!) and flash, that makes perfect pictures. - All the usual options: mp3 player, going online, memory card, Java, Bluetooth... you name it. - Recharging the battery works via a computer too (a nice bonus). The nicest cellphone I ever had. And it is damaged.

The sound is very good. (Especially on a Boss headset!) Voice clarity when making or accepting a call is excellent. MP3 SMS and MP3 Ring tones are loud and clear. Listening to MP3s is also a great experience. I would rate the sound 4.5 / 5, since I also have a Sony Ericsson w910i Walkman (rating is 4.75 for the mp3 sound quality alone) phone that produces a very slightly better sound compared to the G400. However, I would pick the G400 anytime any day compared to the w910i. Why? - 5MP camera. - Touch screen (when closed). - Ultra long Battery Life (2 days). - You can assign SMS MP3 tones to every contact as long as you copy it to the phone, which has a 100mb internal memory. - Durability and It is a Clamshell phone which I Really really like�

Tips for better picture result ( specially in low light/dark places ) : go to camera settings > iso > choose iso 800. exposure metering > spot u can also increase the brightness. i was surprise last night when i did some test with my phone's camera..the result was really good specially in dark places..hehehe..hope it helps

hey ya! i found a solution to ur problem. 1st check profile - settings - phone profile if u use normal - choose options - edit under incoming call scroll down to auto reply and turn it off..hope it helps.

I have one!... its greaaat!!.. but have two cons. First one, its difficult to scroll down the music list with the external touchscreen... 2nd.. The camera flash its sooooooooo high, when u want to take a picture near the object the picture appears white!. Pros... same old...i have to charge my phone every night because the charge only lasts a day, unlike my old phone. I am able to listen to music and text all day though, without the battery draining. yes you can use mp3 as a ringtone aside from that u can also use the voice recording file .amr as an SMS ringtone. u can alos set up personalize sms ringtone for each contact. yes u can browse the web with ur network provider but u will be charged data rate..thats depends on ur network though.. i have a pink one...

well, i did follow your advice on charging it for 4-6 hours (even though it's not a first-time-charging anymore), and i guess the battery life is better. I also kept my bluetooth on, maybe that's another reason why my phone has a shorter battery life. I'll try.... about the cover...all you got to do is put both of your thumbnails on the sides, and push the cover (using your thumbnails...instead of pushing it with just your thumb...hope you were able to imagine what i'm trying to tell you hahaha. enjoy

yeah...me too i love it! although, i must say, as a former user of s.e., there are a lot of features that I didn't see with g400. Like screensavers, sms animation, sound effect. Nevertheless, I still love it and got no regrets in buying it. So far, the system hasn't froze while i'm playing music, and that's what i'm really looking forward to. The best phone ever. Very user friendly. I was able to make my Motorola Bluetooth headset work with much ease. I don't need to read any manuals to make things work. Feautures are great! Menu is very user friendly. It's like having a good quality mp3 player, digital camera, videocam, organizer, every day tools (like calendar, calculator, converter, etc) in a single compact device. Very stylish, elegant, executive looking. I got the gold version from Eastwood Mall. My only concern is the battery life. It drains so fast. My feeling there's a defect in the unit I got. Does anyone know what is the standard standby and talktime battery time for this cellphone?

yup...i just bought one in robinson's galleria at 9,990 Php...it's on sale until September 10 (i think), the only problem is...they get sold out really fast. Units were already sold out in megamall...and they only had one unit (a pink one) left after i bought the last black one. You have to wait for new stocks, which, samsung salespeeps don't know if they will still have it on stock. As of now, got no regrets on buying it. Will check back on you guys on a later date...

I am having problem connecting the phone to bluetooth car radio device! It connects.. then after 3 seconds it disconnects. I can connect any other phone models, use it to call and hear music, but this Samsung G400 disconnects from the car after 3 seconds. Does anyone know a solution for that? thanks

oh ya one bad thing about this phone: when u have a long list of music, this phone is sooo slow to move from one end to the other unless u got everything sorted into many small folders and albums (which is a very long work) unlike nokia that moves in 1-2 seconds

I've tried upgrading the firmware also, but I get the same response as some others have mentioned. Pc studio 3 recognizes my g400, no problems there, but when I try to update the firmware, it says after step 1 of 4 that it doesn't recognize the phone model. My G800 bit the dust (screen won't display), so I was in the market for a new phone. While I have several other phones I could use, I wanted one with a good-quality camera. Rather than spend really big bucks for an 8mp, I opted for another 5mp. I researched the g400, and one the things that attracted me is the clam-shell design. I very hard on phones, and a clamshell has always appeal to me. So I ordered the phone, and it arrived on Wednesday of this week. In these few days, I have really enjoyed my new phone. Functionality is quite similiar to that of the G800 (duh, both Samsung phones), so the learning curve is very minimal. Phone size has never been an issue w/me...N93, G800, and now the G400. Although it is approximately the same size (length and width) as the G800, it is definitely thinner, and therefore lighter. One of the reasons I am so hard on my phones is I don't wear a belt, and therefore do not use a case or clip as I am always afraid I will lose it. The only recourse, then, is to put the thing in my pocket. Sometimes, depending on the pocket, the phone falls out. Not so with the g400. I can even put it in my shirt pocket without much difficulty either. Having the front screen is nice, particularly for reading text messages on the fly. I've taken a few pictures, and the camera seems to respond faster than the g800 did. I haven't uploaded any of the pictures yet to see the real quality, but thus far, my ONLY complaint is the tiny hold button that unlocks the front screen. Even with fingernails, I sometimes miss it.

REPSOTING INFO ON HOW TO UPGRADE (courtesy of Joe) In order to read texts while the phone is still closed via touchscreen, you must download the new firmware. To do this, do the following: 1. Got to this address: 2. Download and install the new version of PC Studio listed, but DON'T run it. 3. Install the Phone Software Updater provided at the link. This is an addon for PC Studio. 4. Open your G400 and go to Settings -> Phone settings -> PC Connections select "Samsung PC Studio" 5. Connect the phone to your computer via USB cable. 6. Open PC Studio and select Phone Software Update. This process will take a while, depending on your internet connection. Took me 30 minutes. Make sure to NOT disconnect the phone during this time. Do not turn off your computer either. And don't disable your internet either. Any errors can permanently ruin your phone. Updating the firmware is a sensitive process so please do so at your own risk. I also did this with an english language phone so if you're using one that is in a foreign language, you may consult your region's website.

Well, the only differences I found were these 4 things: 1. The icon on the front you touch to access the camera menu is now re-arranged in a straight line, as opposed to a square. 2. You can now read new text messages on the external screen.(you knew this one though) 3. The menus are a little bit faster. This also includes moving/deleting files. 4. The Album on the external screen loads significantly faster, and the scroll on the right side is much more responsive. That's all that i know for sure. I want to also see if it is now possible to use 16gb Micro SDHC cards, but that'll have to wait till I have the money.

Guys, I have a question , I have the G400 for about 5 months now and is very contented with it disregarding the fact that it is a fingerprint magnet and the silver buttons on the side easily fade(for volume and camera). The same thing happened to me, but all you have to do is uninstall the program and install it again on your computer and it should be able to recognize your phone afterward. This happened to me various times and it took a couple of uninstalls and installs to get the phone to be recognized and updated...but i think it was well worth it...

If you don't mind cleaning it every now and then... Only the glossy (meaning the silver part) part will be affected by your fingerprint... and its not a big problem~ As for the keypad, it can accumulate dust and dirt so wipe it frequently~

ive erased all messages form the outbox, sent messages etc. so whats left is the 234 messages in the inbox but still it sys the memory is full. ive still got plenty of phone memory left

I am suffering a little bit of problem here... Whenever i received a message, the message was saved in my SIM card rather than going into my phone's memory... Here is some of my review Pro: -Good design with solid construction -Very good camera compare to all my phones i ever had (5320 ME, E66, N73, 6233, 6600, Z3, K550i, K510i, O2 mini, etc) -Good MP3 player quality -Fast user interface -Good radio -Sending MMS is fast Cons -First of all, A LOT OF FINGER PRINTS!! pissed me off (including the keypad as well) -Battere is not impressive can last for 1 day only (heavy user)especially if u listen to MP3. -Theme maker provided but its difficult to create -Front touch panel is annoying since is difficult to use (I tried to but its too sensitive sometimes) -When u flip open, the front display is blank (moto v8 or 9 got the logo) if u notice in the dark room the front display is on (light is on) but nothing (kinda waste batere isnt it?) -SMSing sometimes u keep press wrong between 3 and cancel -NIght photo is useless. I took it with flash LED it comes with blueish photo and without LED more worst (cant see anything LOL) -Games is only trial and sometimes when u are bored then u cant do anything about it! Overall: If u looking for stylish phone and good camera (noon or indoor but not dark room) this might suitable for u... ok I am not good reviewing but at least i tried my best already. You can just push&hold volume button (either up or down) to reject the call. All you have to do is to go to the phone setting and set the volume key function to reject, not silent.

I confirm that it does really have EDGE and I don't know why every website says it doesn't. When you open the browser, the connection icon will start with "G" and turn to "E" if there is EDGE signal. BTW, I'm not sure i under stand your second question. Can you explain?

the touchscreen will only respond to your fingers and not with coins etc that are found in your pocket. anyways, you can always set the screen to auto-lock to avoid accidentaly touching it.

I am in the UK (phone is not technically released in this country yet) and am on the orange network. Can anyone give me some help with setting this up to get it to work? 2. Is it possible to get the phone to make a sound each time it is opened or closed like a folder or flip tone/sound. I saw that on YouTube for this model it was able to do this but i can't find the setting on this phone (but maybe that is because that one on YouTube was a copy of the real model). Hi all you actually can change your sms message tone,go into the main menu then,settings, go into phone profiles where you have normal, silent driving etc, you see options in the bottom left corner,then press edit. At the top of the page are 3 pictures a phone, message envelope and a phone with a speaker, go to the message envelope , then the 2nd one down says message alert tone hit ok and the menu will come up with change, play ,save, and you can put whatever you have downloaded on as a message tone , don't know why they put it so out of the way but there you go,

1. Yes, it is indeed only QVGA recording. I'm still satisfied with the quality, but it's not like I'm using a phone to make a movie. 2. And, to watch a movie on the external screen, place it in the "My Videos" folder on either the phone's memory or the memory card.

Yes, you can take video in the closed position. You can also watch movies/videos that way. And I too have the G400 in the U.S.A. I downloaded the UK firmware without a problem. If you're having trouble doing this, I recommend you completely uninstall PC Studio from your computer (including all drivers) and then reinstalling it. Once installed, follow the instructions I gave.

Incase no one noticed, you CAN read text messages on the outside display. In order to do that, you must have the external display not on hold. If it's not on hold then you can touch and open the text message to read it.

In order to read texts while the phone is still closed via touchscreen, you must download the new firmware. To do this, do the following: 1. Got to this address: 2. Download and install the new version of PC Studio listed, but DON'T run it. 3. Install the Phone Software Updater provided at the link. This is an addon for PC Studio. 4. Open your G400 and go to Settings -> Phone settings -> PC Connections select "Samsung PC Studio" 5. Connect the phone to your computer via USB cable. 6. Open PC Studio and select Phone Software Update. This process will take a while, depending on your internet connection. Took me 30 minutes. Make sure to NOT disconnect the phone during this time. Do not turn off your computer either. And don't disable your internet either. Any errors can permanently ruin your phone. Updating the firmware is a sensitive process so please do so at your own risk. I also did this with an english language phone so if you're using one that is in a foreign language, you may consult your region's website. And, yes, you can make a call, connect the headset and then close the phone. Your call will continue without hanging up.

I own the G400 and can confirm that it does indeed have EDGE. I read the same misinformation when considering this phone. Glad I went for it anyway. Speaking of which, to all G400 owners, there is an updated firmware available! It's quite good. It speeds up the menus. This is especially true in the image menus. The touch screen is also much much much more responsive. And, the best change I've come across so far, you can now read texts as you receive them without opening the phone! So there ya have it.

of course you can. the inner camera is the main camera when you open up the phone. plus, all samsungs with dual camera (3G) allows photo taking using the secondary camera.

well, i own a g400, and i did some hands on research before i decided to go with the G400. It depends on your preference really. For me, the G400 wins in the design dept. and im not really fond of touch screen, cause i have sweaty palms. And i did tried the F480 touch screen, its feels good and responsive. Both are finger Print magnet, but i think the G400 is worse. Both have excellent camera, but the F480 have slighty better video recording capability. And the F480 is a little more expensive. One thing i dislike about the F480 is the laggy response of its software. However if u do decide to go with the G400, heres a couple of things u should check before purchasing it. 1)check for scratch, its very very easily scratch thats why i tinted the whole phone. 2)throughly check the flip make sure its not loosely attached. Mine is a little bit flimsy and does not have a smooth motion when i open the flip. I feel minor clicks which suggest something inside is not properly attached. 3)Duno whether its the phone or the memory card. But sometimes the phone "forgot" theres a memory card in it. So i have to eject and reinsert the card. 4)Duno whether this is normal. Taking pictures for about 4~5 mins makes the part with the embossed samsung logo on it really hot.

Good phone/Bad phone G400 Soul has some very good features like being able to block indervidual phone users from calling you and the outer touch screen but when using an MP3 as a ring tone or sms alert you can't hear it because of the poor speaker quality - Nokia still the best, I will buy the new Nokia 5800 when it is released - looks fantastic!

the flash is bright enough for night shots or dim lighted areas. However it is not a touch light. sign... The camera does not heat up during 4-5mins camera/videoing. It is abit warm but that is very normal in fact it is such a slim mobile with so much juice.

It is hard to install games in Samsung phones.. But it doesn't mean that it is impossible.. Some hackers show how to install games in YouTube.. The slide type of soul has already been hacked.. Just waiting for someone to show how to hack this phone.. If your looking for a phone with better specs, go to Sony Ericsson.. But don't expect designs like the Samsung phones..

I want to buy this ph bcoz of its design too. But now u said can't install games. Means its same old samsung problem. they only accept java games via phone web. My previous phone was the sony ericsson K810i and W810, and now Got the gold G400 last week.. * camera is fine but not as powerful as the sony ericsson cybershot line-up.. * the earphones that comes with the phone is good and is almost in par with the headphones of my W810. * the themes is not as customizable as the sony ericsson.. * the design was the reason why I bought the phone, classy gold finish, great external touch screen, and a slim 5MP clam shell.. * the phone lags a bit when browsing on the pictures, other than that, i don't have any problem with this phone.. Feel free to ask some questions regarding the phone.. PS can somebody tell me how to install games in this phone? Tried to paste the game in a folder, but when I run it it says something like the file is not compatible or not recognized..

The phone oozes style and coolest, it is the first 5mb flip phone and talktime 4 hours is actually very good considering its slim looks. no more need to bring out the digital camera aswell, unless u are some kinda professional. with external touch screen easy to track the calendar, touch screen photo shots and no accidentally answering the calls unless u flip to talk. Yes it is loud enough. I have mine set in "outdoor" setting which makes it vibrate AND ring at the same time. It has several different ring settings. I have 2 different images...one on the outside and one on the inside screen. AWESOME PHONE and an attention getter ESPECIALLY at T-Mobile where I went and bought some car chargers for it. They were like "WOW, COOL PHONE DUDE".

I saw this phone in Malaysia this week. Fantastic specially the external screen which is fully touch screen and full colour. I really recommend all of you guys to experience this phone. It is very well built, beautiful and excellent for ladies who do not want to use a full touchscreen specially if they have long finger nails. The internal section is a full flat keypad and external screen is touch. 3G works great and all together it is a great package.

No way it's released in Belgium and nowhere else. Companies wanna' saturate the market with their products. It looks like Samsung is going the way of Motorola by saying they'll release a product at a certain time and then never doing so. I still haven't seen the Motorola Z10 in any stores in my area and I'm not counting on seeing the G400 either.

No idea. The woman I talked to couldn't specify. I deemed myself lucky she actually knew the G400 existed, because when I called in July they didn't even know it was a Samsung product. Earlier internet reports about the G400 specified that it had a double "touch" screen... I wonder whether they downgraded the specs or if it was simply a misunderstanding on the journalists' side. I thought hardware reajustments might explain the delay. What do you think?

I called Samsung France and was told that the phone should be available in France in September (although the person I talked to seemed to imply that it could take a little longer than that). It seems that some commercial Belgian websites are more optimistic as they announce that the G400 will be out by mid-August. Hope it helps.

But, I'm only worried about one thing which is the size. When a ph is large, it's not so nice 2use, i guess. Esp. clamshell type. I would make the assumption that the camera operates with the phone open or closed. If you look at the open image youll see the camera lense is pointing towards the user (I assume for self photos/video calling).

Re your comments on the Z710. I have one and its a good phone. Camera menu a bit fiddly though. Its different and although a bit old now I still think its better than some newer models. This new U400 looks like another good one. Shall be waiting for it.

In most dedicated camcorders/cameras they have screens of 120,000 pixels or more.The qvga of 80% of most mobiles is 76800 pixels and thats why photos look better and crisper on the lcd screens of dedicated devices but why??,,i looked up specs of my dads cannon camcorder because the lifelikeness of photos at only 0.8 megapixel and wondered WHY? but the specs said 2 inch screen, 12 bit polysilicon 120,000 pixel lcd display so even the colours are only 4096 colour?? So it must be the pixel count,,we want more denser screens please not more colours...

There isnt a chance in hell this will come out in June. I've spoken to all of the phone networks in the UK and they havent even heard of this phone. The only company which has heard of it was the carphone warehouse who are a reseller. I want this phone but its going to be months away :(

This fone is like 2 in 1..You can do most actions using front touchscreen..then flip it open and use as normal clamshell..On mobile-review they have done foto test and it beats s/e g902 totally..Info is still vague on this fone but its due out next month

@ 5xrr,,well done, who needs wi-fi with 3g much more available just get good data plan..Wi-fi eats battery and in uk its �5 an hour and hotspots are still rare and for 2 hours in a hotspot i get 1 months data plan!!!I think from you putting dollars you are in america but i am in uk so release date may differ.. This is clamshell plus 5mp plus 2 of samsungs usual vivid and colourful screens..if its out when you say we will get a gsmarena review perhaps a bit earlier..Samsung dont half squash in the electronics i suppose their using their SSMT in the g400 and lets hope the thinness is not at the expense of battery power...

Some people are moaning that the g400 does not have wi-fi well heres my rant,,,,,, Wi-fi eats your battery,, In uk summer is on way and you cannot get wi-fi on beach and only at hotspots which will charge you �5 an hour and hotels still charge you If your using your home wi-fi connection who does that?? if your at home surly you would use your computer rather than piddling around on a tiny screen,,these are portable devices when you are out and about to keep you in contact.. Gprs and 3g and rarer hsdpa is their almost every where so wi-fi not needed... There are also complaints about it not being quadband well in 850mhz countries their is little technology to support the g400 apps so its not intended to go to these parts of the world.... I cannot believe people complain about silly things like the above or saying the fone will not sell because its only 3.2 mega pixel when 3.2 mp is the best for the camphone sensors at the moment and produces the perfect 6" x 4" photograph..or that the screen is only 262k colours!! in fact its 262k which produce the best screens as proved by comparing the d900i with the g600 screen,,the g600 is washed out at 16 million colours but d900i is vivid and in nokia fones the 16 million colours dims the screen .... Well most of the people look past these silly points,,my s/ew900i was only 2 megapixel and has produced most of the best shots of a camphone and samsungs d900 it pretty spot on too. Rant ended

Devmaster : hi there, yes this phone has flight mode, all new samsung phones have flight mode, none of them have it mentioned on the features, but they do all have them. It originated in the D900 with flight mode, so yes they do all have them, its just called offline mode.

Joonipoe? Well, the Samsung Ultra lineup is the brand's mid to high end phone class mainly focused on design (despite that most of their Ultra phones have over 3 mega pixels). Their most notable design flair is their slimness. Considering the strong cameras and features in these phones, 12 through 15ish millimeters is a great size. I'm not sure which phones that you say the ultra lineup is mimicking but personally, I don't like this phone. You should see the Samsung Ultra slider though. The U600, U700, and the U900 are pretty formidable phones.

I'am the Samsung Fan. Samsung is the first brand in phone design. It looks elegant, expensive and futuristic. Motorola is second. Nokia, SE and others are behind. But Samsung is behind in advance features than Nokia,SE and Motorola... why? Samsung doesnt have an external speaker on flip phone to louding the ringtone on crowd noise, doesnt have message tone option to use mp3 tone, doesnt have flip tone option to use mp3 tone, doesnt have theme option to change the looks and etc. Samsung must consider for all these features to make their models is the first choice because some users are love to customize these features. Thats make Nokia is the first on friendly user phone.

I just need to correct the person that commented that this device is a tri-band. The G400 is actually a Quad-Band Phone, the specs says that it works on a 2100 HSDPA, the fourth band.

Yes, normally samsung speaker for loudspeaker is the same as the one used for the earpiece, which is why samsung phones have always too soft ringtones. Don't understand why they cannot have a proper speaker like Nokia phones

As for where's the Speaker on this phone. Samsung Clam Shell's speakers are usually were the ear-peas speaker is, Just above the screen. This can make them a little quiet on ring-tones....

to gk I'd like to point out this is not a FLIP phone it is in-fact a CLAMSHELL Phone. A FLIP phone is like a CANDYBAR but the keypad is covered by a flap.... :) So when giving you opinion please make sure you have all the facts.. Samsung mastered the CLAMSHELL phone. I strongly disagree with the previous comment. Flip phone "phase" is not a fad... Flip phones are here to stay because is the ONLY style that is long-lasting for heavy duty users that can't handle phones as if they were made of fragile paper: flip phones can withstand a much rougher handling than any of the other styles.

A little disappointed that the phone doesn't have American Frequencies, but neither did the other SOUL have it. I want to see a few more pictures and look a what kind of operating system/software it uses. Could it be the croix interface (since it's touchscreen) or just normal Samsung? I want to sleep with this fone it is that good honestly, everyone loves flip up fones they are harder to break and the specs of this fone are unbelievable, ill be keeping a close eye on this one, wonder wat the price will be like??? oh yea big up to sha from Zyton!!
