Samsung Galaxy A40 - User Reviews

  • Thanx

  • A40

  • Please, a40 or Mate 20 lite ?? THNX !!

  • Why not

  • Is it USB type C 3.1? The specs says so, but it's a bit hard to believe since the more expensive a50 has only 2.0.

  • Wow i had no idea !!! thanks.

  • Why would you want that thing?.

  • Why there is no Bixby support on the A40? Will it be available in the future?

  • Why this device not available in Saudi Arabia

  • Does anyone know when the A40 will get android 10 (one ui 2.0) in the uk.

  • Yes it is, available under settings/display/full screen apps/advanced.

  • I have Samsung A40 for 3 weeks. I am very satisfied with everyhitng. I have to mentione that I am mid to low average user. I use mobile phone for calls, chat apps, a few social networks and a few interesting apps. Nothing special and no games. -Display and brightness are awesome. I can see everything even when the Sun is directly on me. Addaptive brgithens works great as well. -Its pocket sized and great in your hand. -Battery is fine! I go to work at 9 and come home in the evening, after about 12h, it has around 50%. It could easily last 2 days for me. Fast charger is great also! -Front camera is good, but back camera could be better. Btw I did not check all the settings so thats on my perhaps. -Does not have Always on display, but you can download an app for it, it works normally. - Very fast and has a nice interface - Fingerprint - good and fast Also I noticed many people have problems when phone is in your pocket. I did not have any random chat or phones calls while my phone is in the pocket.. Perhaps because I use fingerpint. Also, when I talk I do not have any problems with entering different apps with my cheek or somehing. All good. Maybe, but just maybe, while on the phone, speaker could be slightly louder.

  • Which one is better a40 or m30 in process (cpu)

  • If you can live without the headphone jack and expandable storage, then the Xiaomi Mi9 Se is a better buy.

  • uninstall it via ADB

  • Did same, came from S7, biggest advantage for me is weight and dualsim. Else is worse, but i didnt expect anything else for budget phone. But most disadvantage is no always on display or led notification, which should have all phones jesus, its its basic.

  • How much screen on time you have after depleting a fully charged battery?

  • Upgraded (or downgraded) to this from Galaxy S7. And only cons I really have are lower camera quality both front and back. Low light performance is worse but in daylight it's okay and acceptable. Wide angle camera is good for scenery, but you can forget any quality when using it (only 5MP). Battery for me is reliably 2 days (light web browsing, automatic brightbess and sync enabled). 0 performance issues except youtube occasionally freezes for 20 seconds or so when opening external link. One of the few phones you can still actually use easily with one hand, other than S10e, can't think of any other new phones with smaller or equal size.

  • 3100mah little disapointed .

  • I've been having that same problem for years with all these bullshit smartphones

  • I can't update this phone,it tells me that is a problem with the server or with the network...i'm the only one with this problem?

  • Is not gonna help, the actual screen has the high number of pixels on, regardless of the software resolution.

  • It can take pictures in four modes: full, 1:1, 16:9, and 4:3.

  • Can't find good compact phone these days, this one would be great if the battery was bigger, at least 4000 mAh

  • Please help. Can you access ok google or no by on locked screen? Does it take pictures in 4:3?

  • I bought it 2 months ago. Great phone ,very fast. Camera ,design, display, speed are very good. I am very satisfied with it. Only the battery could be a bit better, but overall a great phone for the price. Go for it if you are not a heavy user...

  • Tried this phone for a week, size and performance are good. The main reason I returned it: battery life is poor compared to the Sony XZ1 Compact I had before it (which is 400mAh smaller) and there is just too much useless Samsung junkware on it....

  • Thank you very much for you reply. Do you have it, I guess you're satisfied as you say?

  • This or p30 lite?

  • Sadly, resolution can't be changed. But, with regular use the battery will last througt the day easily!

  • Does this have any problems? Should i buy it? I like the specs and size such a good phone

  • Hello friends. Can some of you please confirm if it's possible to change screen resolution in A40 from 1080x2340 to lower, normal HD in order to preserve battery? ppi would still be cca 300 or less which is okayish for my purposes. I know high end Samsung Galaxy S9, S10 can do it between HD, FHD and QHD. Very important for me as I'm contemplating about smaller, cheaper device like A40, but I am also worried about battery longevity. If I could change screen resolution, that would be awesome. Thank you very much and best of luck to everyone.

  • Jury out on one UI, I feel 2017 models were better

  • Mine stopped charging suddenly after only 6 weeks - it was 'repaired' by the supplier by means of a firmware update. Not impressed

  • I have a problem with AdaptiveBrightnessGo, drain battery of my phone. What can i do? It's the first phone when i have this problem.

  • The trouble with most tech 'Reviews' is the geeks sit down with a coffee and look at the specs, whip themselves into a tech feeding frenzy, and think 'whaw....great specs...or not' Then a 'real life' consumer gets hold of the phone and thinks...Jeeeees, this is cr*p....! I am one of those for the A40. The Forums are crammed with other 'real people' who are having similar problems. Issues with Bluetooth - can't sync Bose speakers, can't sync Fitbit. Native Wi-Fi calling is dropping out with outgoing and incoming voice on BOTH sims. Speech quality on ear and main speaker is appalling, and lastly the phone network strength i.e. amplification of, is very poor too. This is comparing with a Sony XZ1 where ALL of the above is much, much better. So - after lots of fiddling I have at last decided the phone promises a lot on paper, but delivers little and is very POOR...as a phone. For reference, I have done my best at a bit of research. I have actually returned the first A40, and got a replacement - no difference (to my embarrassment) . I have run one sim only - no change. I have replaced a sim with a new one - no change. I have changed the wi-fi router - no difference. I have made a call with Whats App - no difference. Poor sound and voice drop-out. So I conclude after all that - it is a bad phone - do not buy! GSM Arena - PLEASE adjust your review process to start with the phone "as a phone performance" 1st, then look at other stuff!

  • is this phone have proximity & work properly on it i mean when your phone ringing & you click on green to answer & after that you get close your phone to your ear does it automatically the screen will off while your phone on your ear? just like the other phone i saw some users complain its not work properly & sometimes work & not work

  • Can anyone confirm or deny that while on bad reception the device takes ages to transition from 4g to 3g even crawling to no signal and needing to switch flight mode on-off to reconnect? I might upgrade a 2.8 year old a3 2017 if the above is not true. But still no ip68 daaamn. Then again I might keep my perfectly working A320fl

  • Maybe for S10e but not A20e

  • Hi, there is the possibility that this phone will receive android q?

  • You missed the term 'budget'.

  • No A20e same dimension, and S10e

  • Cost same as A3 did and that had it

  • Its Samsung, you need to pay to have more. Also phone need to fix lot of bugs before add something new.

  • Hello. I can't set the bixby voice to clock alarm. Existing a posibillity? Thanks.

  • Hallo! How obout Always On Display? Why not have this option?

  • Same dude, i've been searching for phones which is lightweight and easy for the one hand usage. Also dedicated micro sd card and headphone jack coz i got a ton of music and photos. I dont mind the quality of photo nowadays coz i dont upload. My best bet was the sony xperia xz1 compact but its now discontinued, i still buy a 2nd hand tho. Hopefully this phone will become available in the philippines.

  • The only budget compact phone available. Wish samsung released more of the samw dimensions as A40.

  • Looking forward for this phone launch in India. As per my research this is the only budget phone available with width lesser than 70mm and has weight lesser than 150gm. As per the media reports this phone should get launched in India on 4th Sep.

  • Are u kidding me ?!?! you paid 220 eur and this will be waterproof ?

  • no AoD ... unbelievable. bought an a40 just assuming it would have AoD.. having to use an App which is lame. come on samsung, sort it out. Not waterproof.. disappointing.

  • I just got my A40 and I don't notice any change in connectivity to my old Sony Xperia Z1 Compact. If anything, it's even better. It also has a proximity sensor (as stated in Samsung page), despite some users claiming it doesn't.

  • Either you are living in a place not fit for this phone's bands or I suspect your unit is faulty. I live in a place with poor reception (isolated apartment) and this one performs far better than both my old S7 Active and Nokia 5.

  • Thank you I'll check that one out!

  • if u really want to upgrade from a5 2017, the m series is not the way forward. the a8 2018 is still the best way to go..

  • Look in specs sensors proximity

  • Worst phone I've ever had for reception full stop! Really poor lucky to get 2 bars, 3 is occasional and 4 practically non existent!

  • how bad is the battery for a gamer ? i play 1.5 hour of pubg and 1.5 of mobile legend ? do you recommend this phone for a gamer ? dors it over heat ? thanks

  • Phone is good, but have shitty battery or poor optimisation, its draining very fast, even idle battery goes almost 2 days. My xiaomi mi a1 overperform this phone in every way, the battery which is smaller goes 5 days idle and 2 days normal usage, it have smaller camera but gives better pictures. I though i was upgrading but it turn out to be downgrade which will leave me to sell this one.

  • yes

  • try puting screen cover it maybe fix it and it will protact youre screen

  • Looks like it is here, but work really bad. Under selfie camera (around 1 cm) in display , you can try it when calling with some paper. Still issue for in pocket unlocking and sensitivity for touble touch wake up.

  • There is NO proximity sensor !

  • after few days of usage : battery is ok it lasts easily for a one day and it still has some juice at the end. Im a medicore phone user main disadvantages : - no proximity sensor - i believe the camera is the sensor here to turn the screen off - doesnt work good and screen sometimes goes on - no notification led Size - is the on of smallest on the market , but still big. Camera - no stabilisation

  • Samsung won't launch this phone in India...just as they didn't with the A3 2017. Both are compact ones having quality...Unfortunately, Indians don't deserve them.

  • "Faster performance" They have exactly the same chipset

  • Best mobile phone for this price.! Great for playing some games, great Internet speed, for me great phone!! Samsung a40 is beautiful.!

  • I'm waiting for this one to get to Argentina. Do you think it's an improvement? A5 2017 is great don't want to downgrade of course

  • Yes it is.

  • Wow thanks , I only came in for a packet of crisps and a coke, definitely buying the phone instead

  • Go ahead if you can live without AOD

  • yes, you can

  • Galaxy M20 has more powerful battery and faster performance.I want to buy M20.I also recommend you to buy M20.you will know the reason after a few years.M20 is the most powerful phone in in M series and A series(A10,20,30,40) according to buying value.

  • Is it possible to hide the notch on this phone?

  • And there are at the verge of going chapter 11 for their cell phone unit, so much for compact phone, produce phone for minority buyer.. lutz

  • Samsung galaxy a40 any problems

  • Just go to Camera setting>water mark>off

  • Sony always has compact model.

  • Ok, I got the phone. I read many opinions here and there before buy this Samsung. I got opinions by my own now.. It's not a gamer phone and it's not a photographer phone (decent cameras btw). It's just budget mid range phone that works perfectly fine for people like me that dont like waste lot money in phones, just need to open apps or social media comfortly without too much lag and dont like big phone as well. People complaining about AOD but you can double tap the display (amazing AMOLED FHD display) and you will see the notifications.. I like the phone, just costed me 240$

  • Go to camera-settings, scroll down and turn off "water mark".

  • I always wonder, why nobody makes compact phones these days! I'm sure there are people like me who appreciate compact, pocket friendly phone that can fit in hand. Unfortunately we are left with very little and expensive choices like iPhone 7 or SONY phones. Which are not pocket friendly. I have noticed increasing pain due to broad and heavy phones. I hope Samsung will bring this phone to India.

  • if the camera is not importand and you are not a gamer, yes

  • Neither of them is compact. Can you type with only one hand? So no is not compact. Don't tell me that a 144 mm phone is compact . Even in 2050 standards. Is a big phone. Period. The a3 is compact for example .

  • Only if you are crazy. A40 is a mid range. No aod no notification flash no waterproof . I have the a3 2017 and is way better .

  • I have a new Galaxy A40. every photo I take has this text across the bottom of the photo, 'SAMSUNG DUAL CAMERA SHOT WITH MY GALAXY A40' How can this be deleted, please?

  • Just bought this for 199 eur upgraded from moto g2 (since 2014 :)

  • I have the Samsung s7 looking at may be switching to the A40 would people recommend this?

  • Hello, does anyone know how to fix accidental touch protection, that totally not working, in pocket? July patch on. Proximity sensor for calling working. Problem explanation: * first fail: turn on double tap to wake up - lock the phone, put something over the screen - double tap on screen - phone is on = protection not working. * second fail: even after increase sensitivity touch = off, i can control phone through clothes

  • I upgraded from A5 2017 to A40 mainly because of the dual camera with AI scenes. Also, the phone is the same size, but much lighter and has bigger screen.

  • Hello, What about j5 2017??Is it worth to change it with samsung a40?? Also, what about cameras??Are better???

  • A7 2017 is still the best. BEST BATTERY Samsung phone. IPS resistant

  • id ditch A3 on storage alone! ram.

  • yes is i hate glass back phones now.

  • Same phone, and the same future phone.Yes i have also A5 2017 and planing to upgrade to A40(because compact phone).I think it worth to upgrade, but A5 2017 is still a good phone.

  • I have the A40 and its quite fast, but the wide angle camera is trash, it picks up no detail. The other cameras are good.

  • My a5 2017 works fine it's going to be two years I have it and still have 5 hs of screen use. Wanted pie so bad that's why I wanted the a40 and also because of that big screen and it has 1 GB more of ram and the double storage so considered it and upgrade but will think about it. Thank you for answering !

  • The A3 lasts 4-5 more hours of screen time, other than that, this phone is definitely better and still compact. The A40 battery is still decent though. I suggest keeping the A3 unless you are having performance or battery issues.

  • Hello I have a Samsung a5 2017 do you think this a40 is better? Do you think it worth buying it?

  • where????.

  • When can we expect this mobile in india

  • wen this phone will be coming out in latin

  • Why this phone not available in the Philippines? The compact size is incredible

  • but we already have this on local stores.

  • we have this on the PH.

  • Samsung please release it in Asia, it is a perfect compact sized phone for our smaller Asian hands.

  • Please release in the Philippines.

  • Go for A20e only $100 dollarooz , this $300. same size

  • Hi! I have an issue with YouTube app on A 40. It is listed as installed app but it doesn’t appear in app drawer and I can’t open it. Anyone?

  • Yes, it does.

  • why Samsung is not lunching this handset in Asian markets? this is perfect mid range handset .

  • So what, currently you cant use 5g on phones, if you dont live in Tokio.

  • good size 144.4mm so nice

  • connectivity 4 g and gps. very very bad

  • I also have that kind a issue.

  • euro model.......but i seen on ebay hong kong

  • When will this be available in SEA Asia.

  • I also have the problem that the screen is turning on during a call... started some days ago

  • A40, screen died after using 20 days !!!! Black, nothing happens. Phone can ring, screen still black Battery full, temperature normal. Cannot switch it off!!

  • U haven't catch my piont. It's price should have been under $200 for what it is giving.

  • It does have a proximity sensor, the code is *#77692#. The problem is it won't stay on.

  • Does it has AI camera ???

  • Samsung Button Light app from Play Store has this feature. I'm using now and vibrations works well.

  • Thank you for answer, I do not have that app. How can I know what app is doing that? What kind of app?

  • Aye not OEM though, price should be lowered 150 pounds

  • Its not official AOD, which too much consume already poor battery life.

  • An affordable phone for human hands, epic. Only drawback I encountered was that there is no vibration feedback for the navigation bar unless someone else knows how to enable it :(

  • You can activate it!!! Follow the steps

  • Everything is perfect, just PLEASE enable 4k@30fps and 1080p@60fps in next update, SoC is capable of 4k@30 and 1080p at whooping 120fps, but it is software locked. For those of you complaing about no AOD, download this and you will have even better than stock samsung :)) App is called Always on AMOLED

  • Had this phone for a month now. Thoughts: -Feels solid and quite easy to handle -Phone is fast, but should be even faster given the high end hardware specs of octacore and four gigabytes of ram -Ultrawide camera is very fun to have and gives rise to a new type of phone photography. Main camera is unfortunately a bit worse in low light than my old Nokia 5, which sold for just half the price (and had a short life due to drowning, hence the upgrade to this machine) There is just no detail in the low light areas if the camera bumps up ISO to 800+. Up to 400 is okay. -Sound quality in calls is clear but a bit tinny, no punch or bass in voices. -GPS locks very easily even indoors or on a plane but the data out of it is rather noisy; can easily slide 30-40 meters off track or lag in turns if the phone is carried in a pocket. My older phones actually produced better data in a weak gps lock situation. Overall an okay buy but not a hardcore fan. 7/10 stars. Software might however improve the phone in the future, it's brand new. I have never been dissatisfied with Samsung in the long run before, so hopes are set high.

  • I have the same problem, it started 1 or 2 weeks ago. :( Does somebody know how can we fix it?

  • Should be priced $200, budget phone. battery etc. No AOD

  • Buy it only for Amoled Screen, next life i will buy note 7. Camera is bad also notifications and reactions, battery life also very bad. I have just bad experience.

  • Same with my mother's Xiaomi Redmi 6A. Someone please help!

  • Hey folks! I have two questions: - How do you feel the resistance of the power button? Strong, medium or weak? - When I take a standard photo (live focus disable and everything in auto) the center of the photo looks good, but I see a fuzzy areas in the photos, most of them in the left side (like in the review). Does it happens to you? Could it be a camera software issue? I have the last version of the security patch, that includes a camera update of slow motion Many thanks!

  • I would like to buy the a40, is it true that both cameras are not very good and at night the photos look ugly?

  • Please help!During the call ,screen is waking up by itself so suddenly switch another call or speaker or interrupt the call

  • Ok. Thanks dude!

  • galaxy a40

  • P30 lite

  • I wish this small phone had a pop up camera

  • Galaxy A40 or P30 lite ?

  • Well, it is being produced in Asia, so...

  • Wow...thanks for that.

  • Will this phone ever come in asia?

  • It works.

  • Will there be any more compact and light smartphone with a good camera in the next future?

  • Thank you :).

  • thanks bro

  • Batrery max 2 days. And for notifications use glimpse app from store

  • Yes, I have this problem with WhatsApp and gmail.

  • Hello, does any one know what is the sot of the battery? How long the battery last? Since there isn't any always on screen or any notification any app that can warn us a message is received? Thanks.

  • After the latest update, Whatsapp seems to randomly stop receiving messages. Anybody has the same problem? Is the battery optimizer killing it? I had it set to allow background connections.

  • Need a much smaller compact phone with pop up camera. Waiting for that kind of phone.

  • Thanks

  • Lol .....not that good i doubt it agree. Save yourself 1/2 of cost get A10..just as good features! If this had AOD id understand. A10 isn't a big phone i was suprised really, afterall this is 5.9 i don't know why people think compact. .

  • If you want to enable slow motion camera after last update go to camera >settings> reset settings. Enjoy

  • can explain this to me Versions: SM-A405F/DS, SM-A405FN/DS (Global), SM-A405FM/DS

  • This must be because one of the apps you use. Greenify for example might do this.

  • There is a 650+mb update out now. May Security update and camera updates.

  • Do you compare A40 with S9 (china clone?) or just on drugs :)

  • No AOD, no led notification, no waterproof, mediocre camera back. But it is a cheap phone with amoled display.

  • when it will come in Nepal?

  • I've had numerous phones before purchasing the A40, The best phone I've had was the Samsung Galaxy s9+ unill I got this A40 and I can honestly say it's as good as the s9+ if not better . I can't fault it in anyway it's a really good phone. The battery charges really quick ,battery life is good . I also like that it's dual sim , plus I'm really happy with the built in radio ,even the s9+ didn't have this which you would have thought it would have being a top end phone. In my opinion the A40 is a really good and great phone 5/5 I would give it as for price bargain. I paid £219.99 from Argos and if you purchase it before the 27th June you get £40 cash back ,so really the phone has only cost you £180. At that price were are you going to get a phone with all these specifications etc. So if your looking for a new phone in my opinion buy the A40 I would recommend it to anyone. Excellent phone.

  • This phone can dowload a pubg and ros , how many hours low bat this phone please answer

  • 2.2 no bloatware either! pure android.

  • A40 no AOD deal breaker.

  • Why they put 25 mpx camera.. if 10y old nokia 5 mpx did better pictures... even you samsung??? Looks like only Xiaomi and Nokia did it well. (my opinion)

  • NO. A40 far better: screen resolution, processore and more. jist compare them here in GSM and see how they are deiffrent.

  • better nokia 2.2 same size, and AOD pure android.

  • Correct. There is no proximity sensor. Your phone will unlock in your pocket when you put your finger on the fingerprint sensor. I suppose they use the camera for shutting of the screen when you make calls. Funny that no reviewer has noticed that so far..

  • Please to help me with my new Samsung Galaxy a40. In a sleeping mode, screen is waking, lights up without any reason and in 2 seconds go to sleep mode. Is it normal? I could not find to turn off that option. Thank you for answer!

  • Battery can last 1 day or 2 days not heavy use (consider that this phone support fast charging 15w) -performance fits this price range, for normal apps use use phone is fluid. Heavy gaming not recommended. -display is just great. -charging is really fast, included quick charge adapter in the box. -size is a main selling point of this model I wanted to get iphone se because of size, but after i saw this model it is instant buy. GREAT JOB SAMSUNG!

  • The battery will last for a day with constant fiddling. Performance is good (note that I do not play games). Phone charges from 15% to 90% in an hour. Cameras are much better than on my OnePlus3. Display is great.

  • please somebody tell us your experience . how is battery life and overall performance, display, charging time, cameras, etc

  • The phone is good at learning usage patterns and killing apps that misbehave - give it a few days of usage to learn and battery life gets better. Also, turn on adaptive brightness and teach it to prefer lower display brightness when possible - default is IMHO quite bright.

  • Not sure about the camera units themselves, but A6 has the old style camera UI where you have to select modes manually (do you want HDR? Sure, go to the menu to turn it on manually). A40 has the "new" style camera UI (same as S10) where you just point the camera at something and it automatically detects and adjust settings for you. (ie Is the image to bright? It will turn on auto-hdr without you doing anything). Which is better? Well, it depends. Manual control can be nice. But the A40 camera is a lot easier to use.

  • Is it available in India now ? When it is likely to be launched ?

  • 5000 battery then it be a phablet size

  • would be good compact phone if only would have bigger battery, 5000mAh for this kind of high density pixels. right now no point to buy because due to weak battery need to carry powerbank with you, but pockets have limits. dont want to be guy whos pockets always fyll of trash.

  • Pixel 3A is almost 2x the price here. So is the S10e, which would be the better choice imo, also keeping you in Samsung's fold.

  • Which one is better? Samsung galaxy A40 or Samsung galaxy A6. The main priority are photos.

  • For price no AOD,. Mediocre battery your paying for compact really. Nothing jumps out better pixel 3a.

  • I haven't tried Snapchat but fast scrolling in Youtube's fred is a bit jerky. It's like the phone is not loading new videos fast enough. It is not very noticeable tho, I only noticed it after using S10e for a while and going back to A40.

  • A security update only. No added functions.

  • I have this phone for a couple of weeks now. This is great overall medium-range phone. All parts of the phone are in the good value for your money range, apart from the super-quick fingerprint sensor, and the user friendly 2 SIMs solution. Some things to expect: - It can only store three fingerprints. Considering you can reach the sensor with four fingers this is not really sensible - The LED that indicates a new message when the screen is off, is missing. That is a major downside for me. On other phones it is done by software using always-on display, that is non-existent on this phone. - there is no stabiliser for the camera/video. OK, a hardware one would make the phone cost more, but at least there could have been a digital one. Overall, my impression is, that the phone could be much better with an improved software. I would have paid a bit more for a phone with a stronger software. Let's hope we get a powerful update soon!

  • fantastic...

  • wow.. as fast as my sony z3 compact build 5 years ago :)

  • Wow!! :( with cover on or off......

  • What was in the update?

  • One update so far.

  • It definitely has proximity sensor. Get the flip case, you'll see that when you close the cover the screen turns off and vice versa.

  • I wanna ask you who used a40 Is it smooth on snapchat? Cuz snapchat app is soo heavy on phones

  • What we need is a phone between A40 and 10e. Like an A50, but with a 5.9" screen.

  • Phone doesn't have proximity sensor. If you go to *#0*# and then sensors there isn't proximity sensor. Also even when you enable Block accidental touches it doesn't work because of lack of proximity sensor. How review doesn't cover this ?

  • Im also waiting for it..Its only available in NOON online. Its much better if the have A70 in smaller size.

  • Did A40 get any updates from the release? A50, bunch of updates, A70, update. A40?

  • Honor 8x

  • Not expensive but overpriced for such low specs

  • Why Samsung is not ready to release this Mobile in UAE? They think that if they release this in UAE, S10E will suffer in sale. Every one cannot afford to buy premium sets.

  • When will samsung galaxy a40 release in pakistan ? Any idea ?

  • Haha...1 of the reason why I reading review for other phone now...

  • It is a decent, small phone. Very sleek. Unfortunately, I dropped it from waist height, and the screen was dead instantly. The phone has no scratches, but it is possible to see some internal cracks on the screen using a flashlight... Anyway, I expected a minimum of durability.

  • Personally, I'd steer away from anything Huawei at this point.

  • What you mean expensive??

  • $250, how, why?!!! Gastric in Samsung's head, surely.

  • Should I have my personal daily driver the Honor 8X and the secondary one the Galaxy A40?

  • Somebody already mentioned that it's market-dependent.

  • Are sure that here 7885 is used? On official site there are 1.8/1.6 frequency in specs. That frequency corresponds to 7904 frequencies, for 7885 must be 2.2/1.6

  • Will Samsung Galaxy A40 be released in India? Any idea

  • When will Samsung Galaxy A40 release in Pakistan?

  • This or p20 lite pls for camera ?

  • when will it be available in asia?

  • When it will come in Bangladesh.

  • Yes, Samsung you got A40, a winner in your hand. Why are you so .... , go and release A40 in all market, make it a GLOBAL WINNER!

  • A30 is heavier too...165g! A40 at 140 gram is now the market leader in weight, (YES! even 10 gram difference is important) A40 = good screen to body ratio + thin bezel + modern design + NFC = WINNER

  • So do Asia, tell that to them?, why Markets only have 6.4 now. Need to release all markets for all to pick.

  • [UPDATE] Corning just added Galaxy A40 to their list of Gorilla Glass protected smartphones (but did not specify which version though)

  • When come in India( A40)

  • A30 only if you like a tablet size phone, nearly 170mmx75mm is a monster IMHO

  • I think A40 is better

  • Hi Guys. which one do you think is better, a30 or a40? size is also important but i will miss always on display and LED notification on A40. a30 is big. please tell me your experience about a40? its sound quality and loudness, camera, handiness etc.

  • We need more small size phone from Samsung. In our country people love small size phones.

  • 10g or even 20g is big deal? are you too weak? hahahaha

  • There is none. You can install third party AOD app from Play store. Battery life update. Same settings sd my previous post. I'm after my second full charge. Unplugged my phone yesterday morning. In total 1day 2hours of usage with 3hrs 22 mins screen on time and 53% battery left

  • What about always on option is it available

  • Those two are old phones with thicker bezels and over 140 gram. Can the major phone makers please... don't forget there are customers who wants decent light-weight compact phones. Why are you letting Samsung A40 grab this entire market? Get your engineers working on slimming those phones down.

  • I'm user of A40 2 days now. Just about battery and my settings. Yesterday unplug my phone 100% at 5.30am then Google maps for navigation 2.5 hrs, YouTube 0.5hr, Chrome 1hr plus Facebook, messanger, a bit of calls and txt, playing with themes and customize homescreen. At 3.30am with 28% battery left charging again. So in total 22hrs usage with 4hrs 50mins screen on time and 28% battery left is very good imho. My settings. I use package disabler pro for all Samsung bloatware, no fingerprint sensor and no double tap to wake. Mobile data on, wifi on, and gps always on. NFC off, bluetooth off.

  • Pixel 3a but double price

  • chinese?? ok go check huawei p20 lite. motorola moto z from lenovo. yes i like a40 too and will buy one tommorrow. but a compact and lightweight phone have a big con. the battery life. im selling my sony x compact becoz of battery too and currently have poco f1 with it but yes a handling of a 180 grams phone is hard and top of that i need two phones so if xiaomi considered to release mi9se with sd card i would go for that

  • Sharp?! You live in JAPAN?? Oh Plz. Don't find a obscure model not available elsewhere. Where are the big brands, the Chinese brands with a 2019, thin bezel, 140 GRAM phone? Their engineers are just being lazy about designing a neat little compact phone like the Samsung A40.

  • go check sharp aquos r2 compact. then come and say those things

  • Guys, guys.... go find me a 140 gram phone with modern design like a A40 please. There isn't one! A40 is the king! 140 gram !!! Xiaomi, Huawei, Oppo and Chinese phone engineers only know how to build HEAVY phones. SAD!

  • For 600$ ????

  • Don't get p20 lite it's old and not as good as p30 lite and a40

  • This or p20 lite or wait for p30 lite pls

  • Actually it's decent for this size

  • small battery

  • yeah but least 64GB on it now not 16GB! ......people worrying about waterproof no phone really is! lol

  • I guess another option would be an older flagship like the Galaxy S8.

  • Great size.

  • Some of us perfer small and compact phones. RN7 is gigantic. If Xiaomi makes a midrange phone with the same or smaller footprint for a 150EUR, then I'll bite. Until then, this is the best we have. And a Xperia XA2.

  • it is a jaw dropping very excellent

  • 100% agree. V30 is way way way better than this cheap thing Camera, display, battery, sd835 , ip68, wireless charging, Quad DAC etc etc

  • At this compact form factor, 3500 is more than enough.

  • 250€ for this crap ??? samsung is going crazy ! for the price i prefer RN7 pro

  • And 3500/4000mah battery

  • If this phone had SD 675 or Exynos 9610 and AOD it would be perfect. I wouldn't mind paying a couple of EUR more.

  • does it support app to be moved to sd card??

  • I've had the A40 for about a month now. It isn't a bad phone but it could use some more beef under the hood but otherwise it's a great phone. Totaly recommend. One thing is I don't like about it is...BLOATWARE.

  • Does this have gorilla glass? When is Indian launch date?

  • Few coming up A20e and A10e....wait for them!

  • Samsung should bring this phone to the indian market. There are not so many compact phones around this days.

  • I got this phone on tuesday and so far i have been very happy with it after some adjustments in settings, apps and whatnot. But i have trouble with buttons (volume, pause, skip and so on) on my Sennheiser CX5 airbuds, or more precisely they work spotty. Sometimes they do, sometimes they dont. They can work one momment and then next moment they don't. My previous phone was Moto G4 with Nougat and i had no issues there. Could anyone else who has this phone test their earbud controls and whether they work? Day to day i use phonograph but it is the same issue in google play.

  • Better than S7? Hardware-wise? Probably not. But it has the newest Android and Samsung UI and almost no screen bezels. If you compare S7 and A40 side by side, the A40 makes the S7 look and feel ancient.

  • Is there a gorilla glass protection ?

  • Based on reviews? I don't think it's bad. Must be a software problem.

  • Just a general question: Why does a non ip resistant phone not feature a removable battery? In this case, where the phone was specifically made for the european market it just makes me wonder.

  • bad battery life

  • Why they dont compare to older flagships? Is this phone better than i.e the Samsung S7? Or the LG V30? Both very good phones still today, and can be had brand new for same price as this midrange A40? I am 100% sure that at least the LG V30 is a much better phone for the same price. Maybe also the S7.

  • weight spoils xperia.

  • Review samsung galaxy M30 please.

  • A40 or Xperia XA2?

  • Bands are bascially useless in Asia countries!!!! its Euro Model phone!!!

  • For price is good fine, where is FN/DS global model? only seen other model out.

  • They said it will be out on Tuesday, so tommorow.

  • no notifications light or not a always on feature is a big con for me.

  • The reason is I am in a dire need for new phone and I always buy new phones after going through GSMArena's review. However thus this time, the battery endurance rating, speaker out rating, camera samples etc are all out on the specifications page, yet the review has not been published, thus I am asking the same question all the comments section.

  • I dont know whats the reason you post this several times.non of us are from gsmarena review team.please wait a little until review team can have the device for review.and one more thing.i own one now but its not as good as a50.so better to go for a50 if the size is not important

  • When will the official review roll out?

  • Is the frame aluminium and how good is the speed performance of the phone?

  • Will anyone reply

  • Wait for A10e

  • +perfect size +great looking, colors +amoled screed +descent battery +nfc -no AOD -slow fingerprint reader -not great speaker -unknown protection glass type?

  • Why the official review is not coming out, please someone reply, I won't buy the phone unless GSMArena's review is out !

  • I would say it's OK deal for 230 euro. Good enough hardware on small body size and amoled screen. You cant find better option that is new and not few years old.

  • Does it have wifi calling

  • No led but it has fast charge

  • i have same opinion about it .. but to be sincere: how can a big company like Samsung sell a smartphone not having any possibility for notifications... no led no AOD ..i can't undertand

  • Why the official review has not been out yet from GSMArena?

  • Does anyone know about the screen protection? It appears to be one of the few good Samsung phones without Corning Gorilla Glass.

  • its also comes with 4k video recording but I donno what fps???

  • This guy gets almost 10 hours of Sot . So i guess that's not correct

  • Only 10h on web browsing in GSMArena battery test? It's imposible becouse it's one of the worst score on smartphones!

  • 636

  • is there notification led ? fast charge ?

  • S8 won't receive android Q

  • Lol, of course the S8. S9 is also dirt cheap right now.

  • nope

  • wait for A10e .....Perhaps!!

  • S8 vs A40 ? Help me please

  • Hello please does it have always on displays ?

  • So after one week with the phone I'm still not decided if I should keep it. Display and dimensions are really great, but that's it. Not a great deal for 230€. 150€ would be more fair price. No water protection, no gorilla glass, useless bixby home, mediocre CPU (Exynos 7904!), no aptx HD. I suspect a paper tissue to be a cause of two scratches on the weak plastic back. Yet there is no other option for kinda inexpensive compact phone. Maybe after some time with discounts on Pixel 3a or Xiaomi Mi 9SE...

  • It has always on displays ?

  • All android phones have face recognition, don't they?

  • Hi. I'm thinking about this. Owners. Does it have always on screen? Fm radio? And biometrics are fingerprint sensor and face recognition? I read in the manual, that is also has face recognition? Can you confirm? Also does the camera app has voice commands to take pictures "say cheese, shoot, etc" my a3 2015 has voice commands in camera app. So i hope this one too. And sot of the battery, thanks.

  • How long last the battery for normal use?4-5 hours of calls,2 hours instagram,2 hours facebook....is standby ok?

  • is the signal of this phone are good?

  • it wasn't as good as i expected but it has compact size

  • Why tf does this one has almost zero chin unlike the galaxy A50?

  • please how is the battery endurance of this device? ...And how does it fair when used heavily, does it heat up there by draining the battery really fast or it's normal?

  • go S8 over this better and gets pie!!

  • Not that cheap what you pay?

  • Be ok if your looking at $200 but $400 no!!! ......Keep eye out for A10e...maybe better.

  • I'm wondering about the front glass on this phone. I checked corning.com website and Samsung official but there is no mention about type of glass on A40. If they omitted the glass with protection then this phone is worth nothing. I don't care about plastic frame and back but Gorilla glass at least version 3 is a must, it is the standard for midrangers.

  • No Aod, camera pic mediocre, angle view pathetic only 5 mpx absolutely useless, no led, cpu incredible slowly absolutely full of flaws.

  • Excellent. FM radio, 3.5 jack, dimensions, NFC, Gallileo; wide cámera

  • Got it. So far, selfie camera is pretty soft, not much detail, also night pictures are pretty poor even for the price range. Speaker sound tinny, medium-high pitched without much room to breathe. Battery seems ok, screen is awesome, grip and sturdiness pretty good for a plastic body. Too bad i didnt find the Galaxy A8 still on sale, would have been a much better choice (water-proof, better build quality, better speaker). But yeah, for the price is ok, its cheap as it is for a brand new samsung.

  • I got it , really good

  • does it not have always on display???

  • 100% agree. But problem with S10e - it has significantly fewer key-features than S10 with near the same price. In this price category I'd prefer P30 - it just slightly bigger than S10 but has much more reasonable value/price ratio. BTW Just compared both A40 and S10e in store - A40 fits more comfortable in hands without all that glass so S10e is not my choice.

  • for this kind of screen size I guess MI 9 SE is still a better option. I was almost convinced to buy the A40 but the chipset, no AOD, no IP68 and no aptxHD are really let downs (Mi9SE has 6gb ram, also). even if it costed a little bit more, with this items I would considered buying it

  • Go for S9 instead.

  • do you think it would be better to get S8 over 2019 A series. I know the specs and more. i only wanna know if it is wise to get S8 which is 2017 OLD but still GOLD device. it at least gives us everything we expect from a phone . i wanna know your ideas about it .thanks a bunch

  • Samsung is getting tricky. last year you could buy A series with a ton of capabilities such as metal frame, ip68, glass back and more. this year we are getting A series with plastic (glastic back), no ip , no aluminum frame, no aod , even dated chips in 2019, what is happening to us . A series had famous quality back in the day, now quality is sacrificed. Price is also low but... A series were special, now practically replaced J series with U notch to boast about in 2019.

  • why this A40 won't be released in China, and have A40s instead? Shit huge screen A40s!

  • My theory is, that they didn't implement the AOD in A40 because it would probably canibalize the sales of S10e. Many costumers want this function on smaller screens, but Samsung doesn't want to lost profit on the higher models.

  • back is a plastic fantastic, but it looks good. I can confirm also that there is no Always on Display :(

  • Does it have notification led? Maybe they'll add AOD in a software update?

  • Its true no AOD not paying $340 without that thanks.. Manual..

  • Does it have screen protection?

  • Agree stupid move on new phones !!!! unless its budget.........

  • It's an App Always on Edge, not built in AOD

  • Does anybody know if it supports WiFi Calling (voWiFi)? Many thanks!

  • Polished aluminium frame or just plastic fantastic?

  • so... what is this then?

  • I can't understand it either, it's a stupid (if not wicked) move from Samsung. Here's the manual:

  • It looks so weird.

  • I have read the A30 model user guide only to check AOD. It has it. But for A40 there is no issued manual yet. Samsung uses this feature on special devices, i agree, but how J7 pro suddenly becomes special for Samsung only recently? i don't think AOD would impose costs on them like OIS, USB TYPE C,Bluetooth 5, etc, there are marketing policies they follow i don't understand. It is a deal breaker

  • Done on purpose?. Or I don't see the point

  • Samsung says: "The Always on display feature is only available on certain models. Please see the full product manual to determine if your device is capable of displaying on a locked screen." Unfortunately, they don't mention AOD in the manual, so A40 doesn't have it.

  • It has an always on display!!

  • Are you sure? please check it in settings. it might be deactivated by default. it is very important for me. a30 has it, what is wrong with samsung...the only perfect size with always on display i wanted now NOO please tell me if a40 doesn't have aod for sure

  • Didn't you read the specs before buying it?

  • Why undeclock the chipset. Bad move

  • I think I'll go to a different brand now with this crappy chipset I really loved its compact but the chipset so dissapointed

  • for that price you joking lolzzzzzzzzzzzzz

  • Ok, that's a no buy from me. I will go for the s10e then, when the prices drop of course.

  • It is really shame because there is no AOD, but no panic, there is a app on market "Led Blinker pro" and it is very good...

  • Today, I bought this device. There is NO always on display! Wha t a shame!

  • No AlwaysOnDisplay with OLED 8-0 Samsung, are you kindding ?

  • Oh, did not know that. A question. To a which SD processor can Exynoss 7885 compare to? 630, 636, 660, 632?

  • lol Kirin have mediocre GPU compared to exynos 7885

  • Any Asian markets have yet??? Global.........

  • c'mon Samsung put a better chipset on it

  • The phone has a Gorilla Glass?

  • What's the processor in thing? Same old year and a half old crappy 7885? C'mon Samsung, put a SD 675/710/730 in this type of phones. Or a better in house chip. Even Kirin 710 is better than Exynos 7885.

  • What do you mean Weird ratios??? thin? Mmm im still using 16 , so i cant say but i hope its not to thin!!! or i might have to grow tall lol

  • Always on display? yes or no?

  • To anyone currently using a 5.0" phone, this is the phone to get.

  • even SD675/710 are enough

  • Any chance that this will be released in UAE .If when?

  • I really don't like weird aspect ratios like 19.5:9, looks and feels too weird. I have a40 and redmi 4x, both have almost identical dimensions, but redmi has 5 inch screen, bigger bezels and actually I like it better. People are too obsessed about bezelless phones, but then you get a notch or loose a notification led etc. All I want is a compact phone that is easy to use and 5 inch 16:9 screen rather than 5.9 inch 19.5:9 screen even if it has less bezels, I don't care. Now look at the Sony xperia 1 with tall 21:9 screen, it's even worse. Looks like a joke. Looks like an old meme about iphones who look like light sabers. Why do people prefer phones like that rather than 5 inch 16:9 phones

  • Does galaxy a40 have Samsung pay?

  • They did. It's called the S10e

  • Play high end game's you need the latest chipset. But when you use only normal apps. You dont need it

  • just put a latest chipset and it will be the best compact phone

  • when is it available worldwide? i mean Asia. i am eagerly waiting for this 1

  • Finger print scanner better placed than 10e!! . Next upgrade!

  • Same as 10e really battery, PPI size , weighs less! rather this getting a 10e experience at 1/4 the price!

  • wait a few months prices always drop!!

  • Thanks a lot for your information, hopefully, will go for this one :)

  • experience it is great Camera it is good (only main cam) Display it is realy nice Battery last for 1.5 day (5 a 6 hour sot) Fast charging (1 hour battery full ) And it is fast enough for daily use For € 249,- you get a very nice phone

  • Please tell me your experience with this one. I have been waiting eagerly for this one. I hope this will be good one being smaller amidst the larger companions.

  • Stop imagining things. You have your answer.

  • First of all A30 does not carry ip68 certification, second only A50 is decent offering by Samsung

  • Nice phone Good display 64 gb 4 ram Good camera (only the main cam) Headphone jack Good battery life (1.5 day) Enjoy this A40 ; )

  • It is possible to make 138x68mm, just need smaller screen (about 5,5 inch)

  • put SD675 or SD710 then I'll get this one, dont mind even if it has small battery

  • Um yes it does look in you tube video settings

  • Its not really! look here, id say S8 is bigger

  • This have AOD

  • if it has a SD730 it must be the best phone

  • 2x1.8 GHz Cortex-A73 & 6x1.6 GHz Cortex-A53 2x and 6x

  • What is battery endurance rating? Almost compact soze phone

  • Have always one display or notification LED int the mobile phone?

  • is it 2x1.8 GHz or 2x2.2 GHz? confused 🤔

  • Looking for 5,5 inch 19:9 Samsung phone, with maximum dimensions 138x68mm. A40 and S10e are still to big.

  • naice piroductu

  • Camera is 16 f1.7 in a30 while this one is 16 f2.0 A30 has bigger 4000 mah battery This one has only better selfie camera Why A40 is more expensive than a30?

  • On sale where I live, for 229 euros. I'll bite at 199 euros.

  • Hows the camera quality? I'm interested in buying one.

  • Wrong. Released in the Netherlands. But you will see. The device itself is gorgeous. Compact design and the fps on the back is a relief if you used the bigger brother A50

  • You have a phone that hasn't been released yet! Inconceivable!

  • I have the phone. No AOD !

  • Who told ?? All Samsung phones of 2019 has aod..

  • No Always on display. Thats a shame.

  • Waiting for a mid budget phone like this.... Compact, nice to hold. Will obviously give tough time to Sony for sure !!

  • Will this be coming to the US? I really prefer smaller phones, and both buttons on the right side of a samsung device.....about time lol.

  • Galaxy a40 is not posible to realized because samsung is a made old jenaration phone.

  • When is this going to be released and coming to Bangladesh? Waiting for this one, as now a days we have a scarcity of small sized smartphones...

  • Please SAMSUNG have this phone available in PH

  • Since it has similar dimensions as the Galaxy 10e which with my old Nokia 3 (5 inch screen) was slightly bigger when compared side by side, this phone is a winner with regards to size and price. Prefer smaller phones :)

  • Yes, I am also waiting!!

  • Not impossible! Samsung becomes restless nowadays.

  • This is not always true for samsung Exynos 7885 is better than exynos 7904 Exynos 8895 is better than exynod 9610

  • Its' all about one ui and software ma dear!!!

  • I think the size of this phone is almost same as 5.1" S5.

  • Phones that small don't exist anymore. You will either have to buy a old model or a cheap rubbish phone. Or you will have to wait until a compact phone gets released. Maybe the Sony Xperia 4 will be small!

  • Wait for 10th 8 new A coming

  • Need this in 5.1

  • As a compact phone lover, i was looking for 5.5 inch screen and 4000 mah battery. Looks like I will not find any!

  • The design is not bad, just boring. I mean, look at Huawei or Vivo. Doesn't feels like Samsung, at all

  • Plastic frame policarbonat back! No good

  • Galaxy a40 is not better than oppo f9 .So you can buy galaxy a7 or oppo f9 at the same price

  • 5.9 inches is not huge because the format of the screen is 19,5:9, the area of a screen with this format is as big as a 5.6 inch 16:9

  • The A40 is better, 4 better than 3

  • A30 : IP68 & battery capacity A40 : screen resolution, camera, memory Which one is better ? I'm confuse which one i've to buy

  • The phone is as big as the s10e

  • So, whats the deal with this Glastic thing samsung is marketing? Is the phone completely plastic or is it just the back? would be a shame if the frame was not aluminium

  • Ok if you pay a closer attention you can see that the bottom chin is pretty thin ,and the dimensions are perfect ... but again camera and battery are the drawbacks

  • 5.9 isn't compact in hand! its huge!!!!!!!!!!

  • if the battery is the issue, they got you bro! we have a50 which is 4000 mah better chipset and more ram sammy have you covered;)

  • I am waiting Galaxy A40 launches in Sri lanka,it seems pritty much good size for hand,it's design is good.

  • i hope these dimentions will be right :)

  • Yah. Now have coz is untrue statement.

  • Ir should have been 3500 mah battery. 3100 will drain quickly

  • Similar size with S10e with cheaper price... Love it!

  • Wait for A20e i feel that will be compact!

  • I prefer my A3 2017 model! yes big still, i thought Samsung are doing A series 10th next month???

  • It is 14.5 cm. Dont judge by its screen. Pretty small to average.

  • The specs say it has NFC

  • I agree. Still too big:( But best option than s10e. Cheaper at least. Seems is the 2019 sucessor or galaxy a3 2017.

  • Best size, FM radio, super amoled, cheap... sounds great!!! Where do I have to pre-order it???

  • wheres ip68?

  • still too big...

  • Over 100 hours is delusional.

  • the best bet i had is they only testing their new teardrop display(s) and their budget (old) SoCs into many market segments with a low supply and they just doing it to raise consumers attention. let's wait if they implementing Snapdragon SoCs into this new platform.

  • Samsung just like other Chinese phones for price segment better get huawei

  • IP68?

  • Good body size, I just hoped it would have 4000mAh battery. Anyway, lets wait battery tests, if it will have gsmarena endurance rating test over 100 hour, then it would be good compact budget phone to buy. There is not many choises, not to say there is no choises in this segment.

  • We want compact size phone

  • This phone should have NFC.

  • I love the color.
