I have this phone as backup phone. Phone is pretty good, I bought it in May 2018 and it was still sold then even the fact that it is 2016 model. It is pretty ok if you delete all google and microsoft apps which you don't need. It is very good because of removable battery and key button which is more practical. Touch screen is good but I can say it is a little slow on touch if you are going to compare with some newer model. The worst thing about this phone is OS: It has a lolipop which is too old and design is also very boring, there is no any security updates so it is not so good in 2019 but not that bad. I wish that there is at least Marshmallow to refresh and get some functions and I think that J3 2016 would be more popular if there was more updates. It is still popular and sold but with newer OS , popularity would be increased. Memory is 8 gb but about half is free for use so if you are going to use a lot of apps and store a lot of files it would be a problem. I do not reccomend using SNAPCHAT there, because it is using a lot of memory and RAM so it slows device. Also, if you don't have to use facebook app then it will works ok because it is really hard app. Also bad thing is music app, but you can download SAMSUNG MUSIC on google not on store and it should do the job. You will probably need a SD card to work at all with files and apps. Cameras are pretty ok, they are not the best but do the job correctly. Battery is not so good as I thought it would be. It can be 1 day, depends on usage but it drains very fast and it is removable so it is a good thing. ANYWAY it is a really good phone and useful too if you don't put too many heavy apps and if you are ok with OS without security updates it will do the job.

This phone is good for people that are on budget for a phone that can do basics tasks such as: Phone, Messaging, Internet Browsing, Emails, taking basic pictures, social media, checking weather/news etc… But isn’t the fastest phone to do these tasks but still works and at a cheaper price But if you want a phone that is a bit faster, a better camera, better at gaming, bigger battery, has better mobile and WIFI connectivity you a better off with getting a more expensive and more powerful phone. With this device it is quicker to slow down, just after one year it had slowed right down and seems really laggy slow to use. But there are good things about this device: • Has a Super AMOLED display that the flagship devices have, and this is a budget device! • Some J3 models have a duel sim which is good if you want to have two networks on the same phone e.g: if it is a work and personal phone at the same time • 1.5GB of ram, so it can hold some apps open in the memory but it can only stretch so far, so don’t expect it to hold games open • 8MP camera so it can take alright pictures which you can share to your friends and family on social media etc… • 5MP camera so it also alright at taking selfies that everyone is obsessed with nowadays, that you can share on social media • LTE connectivity so it has 4G mobile connection so you can browse the internet and use social media fast but also still has 3G if you are in an area that doesn’t support 4G • WIFI 802.11 b/g/n, which means that you have fast WIFI even if multiple people are using the same connection and will work fine • A 2,600 mAh removable battery which means that you can have a nearly full days’ charge without having to take a charger with you, but if you do run out of battery you can take the battery out and swap it with a different battery to keep you going There are limitations: • Android lollipop (which is the highest it can update to) is not the newest android version available on other Samsung devices • 8GB storage version only gives 3GB usable for the user • There is no MHL but OTG is available • No NFC (but my device did have NFC for some reason) • Missing multiple sensors: digital compass, gyroscope and light sensor What the unboxing is like: The device comes in an ordinary white box which contains the basics such as: an AC wall adapter which is uses to charge the device and a USB cable. A pair of in - ear headphones. What the device looks like: On the back Samsung have used coatings and painting techniques which gives a metal look (especially on the black version). The phone is thick compared to other devices to give better grip of the device. Also on the back there is still the main speaker grill, the camera, the LED flash still where you would expect to find them. If you open the back, you will find the battery and the sim card slot and the micro SD card slot. On the front there are big bezels on the top and bottom of the device but it is actually fine to use. Below the display is the traditional layout with the normal Home button which feels nice and clickly and to left and right of it are the capacitive, recent apps and back button. Above the display there is a front facing camera on the right side of the phone with also the earpiece, and proximity sensor. But has no ambient light sensor. On the right is the power button and on the left is the volume rocker. On the bottom is the microUSB port and the mic and headphone port (yes that’s still here) is on the top. Display: The J3 (2016) has a 6 inch display that has the latest Super AMOLED display technology. The pixels are in the Pentile matrix layout with the pixel density off 294ppi and a resolution of 720 x 1280px so it can work with anything up to 720p resolution such as on YouTube. The display is sharp with nice looking rich and vivid colours and a good contrast that is good with dark scenes and bright scenes. The display also has a good contrast ratio that works really well in daylight because it of its outdoor mode that turns the brightness right up for use in bright daylight. With normal brightness mode it has a maximum of 331 nits and with outdoor mode it gets brighter at 468 nits. But what shows you that it is a budget phone is that it doesn’t have an auto brightness mode. The display has alright colour reproduction but because it is obviously a budget device it will be unexpected to have sRGB calibration. Connectivity: Depending on what chipset version you get it may have different connections but they will be similar. In this device you do get single sim and dual sim variants so you may be able to use two mobile networks at the same time. With WIFI it only has 802.11 b/g/n so it only works on 2.4GHz band so there no 5G WIFI support.

I had one of these back in 2016-2017 and it had many issues from the occasional ghost call as another person here has stated they experienced with this phone, I also experienced lock ups and random full battery discharge from ~70% to dead. Ultimately I dropped it on a soft carpeted floor and the LCD and digitizer both shattered couldn't see anything but black and couldn't touch anything, wildest part was the outer screen was fine but the darned thing was useless.

If you bought a phone that originally came with Marshmallow, then it is the North American version. (Specifically, it was meant for the USA and Canada.) It uses an Exynos CPU, which is the major distinguishing feature. It was upgraded to Nougat. If you bought a phone that originally came with Lollipop, then it is version of the phone that was intended to be sold everywhere else. It uses a Spreadtrum CPU. It will never receive any major Android version upgrades.

I have the USA version and I have had this phone for exactly two years. I’ve found many issues with this phone, so her they are. My volume down button rarely changes the volume while the up always works. The phone vibrates every 10 minutes for NO reason, I’ve shit the notification thing off and everything to do with vibrations and I’ve factory reset the phone miltiple times and it still has the same issue. I have another one and it vibrates every 30 minutes and we’ve factory reset it too. I’m not quite sure how to fix it. If I turn my brightness below 10 percent the phone screen starts flickering and does not stop. Every time I go to use the google app it immediately crashes for no appearent reason. I’ve tried my SIM card in different phones, so I know that isn’t the issue, but my phone vibrates like someone is calling but there is no notification or way to answer. After the phone stops ringing, no notification appears but when I go to the phone app, there’s a missed call. The caller ID often doesn’t work and just appears with the phone number.

I had one for just over a year, it says it has 2gb of ram but it doesn't feel like it does, don't get me wrong its an alright phone for the price, if you take care of it and don't damage it it works great, but I cracked the screen and tried to replace it, it did not work, but they were going to charge me £80 to fix it which was pretty much all the phone was worth, it ran snapchat and instagram, even a few games but nothing very heavy, I wouldn't recommend buying it second hand as you could do what I did, pay £20 to get out of the contact and upgrade so for £2 a month more than what I was paying I now have a Huawei P Smart which is amazing, it has dual cameras, triple the ram and 4 times the storage! I found myself constantly running out if storage on the J3 and had to reset it about 4 times during my 1 year of using it. For all you would pay for one its alright, the Camera was pretty decent on it, but I wouldn't buy one now in 2018

You first line "one week usage" makes your review worthless. Not many issues arise in the first week, you have not used enough of the memory, not recieved enough cookies and most likely not had to update anything. The battery has not had to charge very many times, therefore it has not had a chance to over heat. you would still have "new phone syndrome" which is something I have just made up but basically means you have the protective wrapping still on it, keep it safe from dust and don't let a single person touch it. Keep the phone for 3- 6 months, you will see the problems..

My Galaxy J3 V would pop up with random apps when I would open the screen. Sometimes it was an app on my phone that I had never used. This is the worst Android device I have ever owned. It's beyond suggish. I'm hardly a power app user. I have maybe ~10 apps I use on a regular basis. It seems to be able to hold two apps in memory at a time. If I get an SMS while driving then Google Maps dies. I've seen the GPS simply not update until the phone is rebooted. It comes with tons of bloatware. Some of which can't even be disabled. What finally made me angry enough to post this review is that I missed a flight because the alarm (which worked okay in the past ~3 months) didn't go off. The lock screen had changed (there was no ":" character in the time anymore). I rebooted it and it worked again. The hardware build quality is fine. It's too RAM starved though. But the software, oh, the software. I've been an Android user since the first Nexus One. I've had a few Nexus devices, an LG, and a Motorola. While they've all had some software issues in the past it's been nothing like this phone. I'm on the latest possible update but the software is still insanely buggy, slow, and basically unusable. I've even missed a few phone calls because the phone app popped up after the call got sent to voicemail. This will be my last Samsung device ever!

There'are two versions of this phone : the one with exynos and the one with spreadtrum . The second one didn't get updated drivers beacuse spreadtrum provided drivers just for the 5.1.1 android. An forced update will turn the device into a brick. So in conclusion we won't get an 6.0.1 update nor nougat update.

Display: 8/10 Camera: 5/10 Build: 7/10 Battery: 9/10 Performance: 6/10 A low-end modern phone with an AMOLED display and Android 7.1 Nougat at a high price. This phone could be easily blown by other competitors like Xiaomi Mi A1 or Moto G for its price range. It has a very satisfactory AMOLED screen at somehow respectable resolution and size. The colors are saturated and pops which makes me a fan of AMOLED screens. It gets bright enough for outdoors too. The camera department is lacking though. Sporting an 8 megapixels rear camera, this is somehow acceptable for most people. Taking pictures are quick enough some people. It has good color reproduction. But it loses details due to the software processing side. Low light performance is a flop, of course. And it has no full HD video recording. The phone is built nice though. Although it looks cheap and screams low-end, I like the sturdiness of the phone's side railings and the back cover's snap. The buttons are clicky enough but are a bit recessed and it wobbles. Although it is made of plastic, it doesn't feel like it is due to its weight. The phone is powered by a 2600mAh battery and it lasts for about 3+ hours of screen-on time at 50%+ level with brightness turned up 1/8. It can last a whole day without charging if used lightly and when is always connected to a Wi-Fi. It runs Android 6.0.1 out of the box, but is upgradeable to 7.1 Nougat. On top of that, it runs Samsung's own TouchWiz UI and have lots of THEIR apps in it. I am more of a stock Android person and I get used to using Google apps, so I think these are bloatware for me.

Look for settings/click updates/the update could tell you which Android Version which for me is just now the Nougat 7.1. But there is another way -- Settings/About Phone/Android version. There it will tell you its installed version . Although mine at this still gives 6.0.1, it is still updating the phone info, since, my update info stated that I do actually have the 7.1 Nougat Android Operating System (OS). It currently is at 6.0.1, so I believe it has the Exynos hardware (bought it in North America) in 2017. I just recently turned it on and I received 2 updates for security patches. Unless you just want basic talk & text & wifi, I frankly would not recommend it. Now that it has been updated with stated fixes to New battery management, Easier Multitaasking , & Preview photo effects & filters. They just came, so I do not know how all this will spell out in the long run. ... As for pix, definitely needs daylight unless the 7.01 Nougat update fixed that. I paid it off and am using another phone now. It will be an interesting phone for experiments. I read that more memory space can be gained by going to factory re-set, and then disabling all the bloat ware, minus what you might like. I am inclined to do that with this experiment phone.

Asked this is XDA but still no reply.:( Hope someone here could help. I have not rooted Samsung Galaxy J3 (2016) SM-J320FN, last actualized this January. These days I downloaded on it and on my rooted Lenovo A1000 some .apks from apkpure. The ones that names contain unicode and ascii characters remained like zero bytes files with no permissions (MD5Operation failed). But they indeed occupy space on the devices. I managed to clear the rooted device with Root Explorer by JRummy Apps and the space on it increased. But I can't clear my Samsung. The files are over 200 MB. I very much need this space to be freed.

I've had this phone for 2 years and its actually fine.. i have some problem in the memory system because my phone always warn me that my memory is full and sometimes i can't open my gallery. Actually this phone is good with inexpensive prize. But my problem starts from last week.. i wiped my phone with wet tissues but on the next day my phone can't be touched.. i still can turn on the phone but to turn off the phone i should take of the battery. So be careful because this phone is sensitive with water.. i hope this is helping :)

These remarks are of the J3V so your milage may vary, but as for its cheaper end price, it does what you'd expect for the price. When new it ran great, but as time went on it got unbearably slow. Updating and downloading apps takes forever and severely slows the phone down, not to mention the back gets noticeably hot. The 5mp camera was absolute garbage and the battery wouldn't last an hour without dropping to 60-75% ... I could only recommend this phone if you planned on doing the basics such as call, text, and browsing the web. Otherwise save up for a newer higher quality phone.

I wanted a basic phone with some apps and basic internet. This phone does all that. But it comes with lollipop and that means you cant run apps of sd card. Some apps can be moved but that really does on move a portion of it not all. The phone has 8gb memory which one would think is enough. But Samsung put so many stock standard apps like office on it which take all the space and it cant be uninstalled. So if you install skype , whatsapp and facebook, you have about 700mb left. Try to install anything else and you cant or you are in the enless annoyance with clearing cache and moving what you can to sd. It is beyond me why samsung would release a produce which is not functional. And alost 2 years later and still no update to later os update which will fix the issue.

Whilst the features and ease of use are good. The storage on the 8gb is shocking. Constantly wanting to update apps that are already on the phone . Ended up with nothing of my own (app wise) Had to buy extra memory card to store photos but can't load apps on it. In short if your after a phone that your hardly ever going to use then maybe this might do otherwise I'd avoid it (8gb) at all costs.

I had this galaxy J3 almost a year now. i love it. Performance and display is awesome. I didnt encounter any major problems . The only thing i did't like much is the camera. It still gives descent photos but it comes out blurry sometimes but overall this phone is great. Am not using an sd card and i only have the 8gB internal so i just keep important apps and 2 games installed.

You can flash Lineage or almost any other rom from XDA. They support sd card as internal but you should only do it if you have a fast sd card class 10 and up

The spreadtrum chipset is really good for this phone, especially the cpu ,1.5ghz. The only thing that makes this phone lag sometimes is the gpu , that is a very old one, the Mali-400. If it had MaliT720 it was better. Also if you root it it will not lag anymore because you can remote bloatware. Also lollipop does not eat much storage and ram as newer versions and battery drain is low.

Depends on the actual model, different versions can be distributed over the countries. So the answer is YES, but make sure and double check when you buy, my suggestion is put 'dual' when you search, and after, again, double check the description of the model on the target list

Sooo I rooted it and debloated it , with the big risk of bricking. My free memory, Battery life and ram usage improved drastically. Now I'm gonna try to port the 7.1.1 rom from the exynos version. It's really hard but possible i believe. For unroot go in SuperSU and select unroot and restore stock boot image but not in recovery. After that you can close oem unlock anytime because frp lock is tricked by stock boot image

Overall is good but, the minor problem coms with facebook app which is too slow and too much consuming the internal space. I don't have any game in my device, all that i have are whatsapp, line, instagram, facebook, messenger and all native apps, see my device only provides less than 1gb in the internal storage. If your device shipped with 5.1.1, then most likely will never receive any major OS upgrades. That's because it has a Spreadtrum CPU, and it seems likely that Spreadtrum has only provided Samsung with drivers compatible with Lollipop. If your device shipped with 6.0, then it most likely has an Exynos CPU. Samsung has complete control of the device drivers for those CPUs because they were designed in-house. Those devices are currently receiving an upgrade to 7.x.

Look, there are two major variants of the J3. The best one is the one with a Exynos 3475. This one came with 6.0.1 out of the box. And this one just got Nougat. This model is only for North America. The second one is your version that came with 5.1.1. This one didn't get updated drivers because of Spreadtrum so it can't get any update. This model is for the rest of the world. Hence the "or". If you had 6.0.1, then you can upgrade.

Had the phone for 3 months, never dropped it no water damage nothing ever done to the phone but now there is one certain spot on the screen that when pressed the whole phone shuts off and won't turn back on without pulling the battery. My screen also cracked. This is the 3rd time this year. each time I made a call and went to use the phone there were cracks in the screen not allowing the phone to work. The phone was not abused or kept in the pocket. Verizon had no explanation. I agree I think it is a design flaw.

it does work with flash memory drive (usb 2.0) not sure about usb 3.0. however, charging time is LUDICROUS. Some animal species have have birth, full lifecycle and die in the time it takes this phone to fully charge. Price is highly unreasonable just because of this only reason. This review is not about this product in particular, but the attitude Samsung have given me to a flaw I have found in this product. I purchased this model in august 2017 in Australia, and in just 3 weeks, without any abuse, and no dropping or impact, the LCD cracked from the volume buttons to the centre of the screen. The digitizer and glass are fine, but the thin sheet of glass covering the LCD under the main glass has fractured and bled leading to a black screen. Upon closer inspection, I found the chassis bends to a nice parabolic curve up until the volume buttons, where it steps down and takes on a new curve, in my opinion due to the lack of rigidity in the chassis surrounding the volume button recess. This is a design flaw, however, any damage to what Samsung considers "Physical damage" is not covered by warranty and I have been told its my problem. The phone has been well looked after, and this is proof that this model should not be on the shelves. IN affect, phone manufacturers can hurry the design of a product out to the customers, and simply claim that anything that goes wrong, is physical damage and too bad so sad. I am Never purchasing anything from Samsung ever again.

I picked up one of these last week and it'll almost certainly go back. I, too, found the battery life very disappointing. Just idling, it goes from full charge to 25% in less than a day. Also, I took it on faith from the review here and the response from a user or two a query I posted that it supported USB-OTG. It works with a mouse or a keyboard, but not with a USB flash memory drive or (what I really wanted to use it for) a USB audio interface. Samsung insists that it doesn't support OTG (they say "doesn't support an OTG cable") and I guess now I believe them.

Nope, a friend of mine has it and it has only 3GB of available storage.. you can't do much with 3 gigs I bought the old 2015 Huawei P8 Lite at a little higher price than the J3 a month ago and it's way better, it has around 5-6 hrs screen on time on wifi. And also the camera quality is awesome, photos outside have a stunning resolution (maybe even 4k pics) and the camcorder records fullhd videos.. Samsung lower end phones suck , other companies like Huawei and LG do very well.

Mine was a J3 from Philippines .. We actually have the same issue on the phone however the J3 from Ph doesn't have that much preinstalled apps .. What I do with mine, I reset the phone's factory. Before I re-download the apps I was using ( I'm actually a Gamer so games on my phone eats like over 4GB of the internal space ) I look-up for those pre-installed applications on settings and disabled them all. Then there I got enough space for my almost 1GB sizes games :D :D

I bought this phone (Verizon Prepaid) because it had an SD card for more storage. My previous one had no SD card. I was excited about the advertised 8 GB internal storage also. I use few games but I do use Facebook, Pinterest, & Instagram. When I received the phone, I activated it, then discovered that out of 8GB internal memory, 6 GB were already used by preinstalled apps, few of which I wanted! It has sorry preinstalled Samsung apps, an NFL Mobile app,which I never use, & a fair Messages app. It has only Verizon Navigator which charges for its use.youxll have to install Google Navigator. Once I downloaded Facebook Messenger & Instagram & our local weather app, my remaining 2 GB of storage were used up! I moved those apps tp External Storage but still only had a few MB of internal storage remaining. I don't know how much was preinstalled by Samsung & how much by Verizon, but it's ridiculous to advertise 8 GB & sell phone with only 2 GB. On the good side, this phone is very durable (I've dropped it at least 20 times with no problems, 3 times in toilet due to it's being too large for my jeans pockets, & it still works! The photos are excellent closeup but I can't take decent photos more than 10 feet away. You'll have to install a photo editor for any editing, though . Phone has none.I get good reception & I like the "extra volume" on it during phone conversation. Battery life goes down really fast when I'm reading ebook on it however. For $90 (whatI paid) it's been bearable but just barely. If you just talk & text, it's a fine phone. Just don't expect to install more than 2 or 3 new apps!

After over 7 months of using the phone i can say it's not as good as it looks The phone has ok specs, works fast enough in both browsing and gaming but however one of the biggest problems i've had with the phone is trying to connect to wifi After a week of using the phone i had problems with connecting to my wifi router at home while my old phone connected to it with no problems but other places with wifi worked on the J3 so i assumed something happened with my router, everytime i was away from home i had to reset it when i came back to connect but this wasn't such a problem since the router was right next to me so i ignored the problem until last month the phone started having problems connecting on to any wifi, even data wouldn't connect sometimes Another problem with the phone occurred about 3 days ago when the speaker started making a buzz noise, i assumed the speaker blew up but for whatever reason when i barely used it and i'm usually with my headphones

As a final thought, I know we're talking about a low end device, but around the same price you can get much more elsewhere. The hardware isn't bad at all but nothing goes beyond the casual user experience - you won't play graphic intensive games on it (but that's OK because first you'd need to actually have storage for it which you don't unless you delete all your apps except the bare minimum), you can take quality outdoors pics assuming you have good natural lightning, otherwise it won't go beyond the average social media snap, the lack of sensors more and more common in devices of any price range won't be a drawback but will still bring some annoyances. However, the biggest flaw of it (and literally every other low and mid range Samsung device ever) is the lack of software support. Android 5 is usable, but lacks many features (such as using an SD card as internal memory that would solve its lack of internal storage). Apps have more and more features not compatible with it and, worse of all, to this day I've received a SINGLE safety patch almost an year ago. You must be aware of the bigger concerns of Internet privacy and the rise of Android malware, without such essential patches you're highly exposed to cyber attacks

I have the J320M/DS model and I confirm that has USB OTG. I can transfer files from USB flash drives to phone and the opposite. You only need the OTG cable which is like an adaptor.

I'm thinking of buying a Samsung J3. The specification listing here (Comms) indicates that this phone supports USB-OTG, which, for a phone in this price range is surprising. Samsung Support tells me that it doesn't, which isn't surprising. However, manufacturers typically make it very difficult to find any information at all about OTG, so often the support answer is "no" based on they can't find anything that says "yes." Can someone please confirm or deny this feature? You don't actually have to be using it, though if you're using it with an audio device like a USB microphone or audio interface (which is what I'd like to be able to do) that would be a plus. Another common use is to connect a USB thumb drive. There are several apps that will check a device for the presence of USB support. I use one called "OTG?" If someone who has one of these phones would kindly run that app or your choice for an alternate one, and report the result, I'd really appreciate it. I'd try it myself, but stores won't let you install apps until you buy the phone. And to the GSMArena editors - if it really doesn't support OTG, please correct the listing. I purchased a Samsung Galaxy J3 one month ago. Two days ago the screen went black. Eventually we got it to switch on again, but the screen was "inky". I returned it to Office Works who told me this could only happen by being dropped. It has never been dropped. Samsung also refused to do anything. Upon looking on line I see that this has been a constant issue with Samsung, even cracking when in a person's pocket, for which they continue to blame the purchaser. I've seen phones dropped, get a crack, and still keep working. Never again. Sad,they can continue to sell faulty products to people who can ill afford to be ripped off.

Whatever version of Android your phone came with, that's probably what you're stuck with. This is a low-end phone, and Samsung often doesn't give them as much attention as their flagship devices. Samsung claims that they are providing quarterly security patches, but sometimes they fail to deliver on that schedule. Consider installing Android Messages app (official Google SMS client that comes by default in many devices). Set it as your default SMS app and disable Samsung's. Google's doesn't have such problem, plus you'll probably find it faster and the option to reply to messages without opening it is really good as well.

Galaxy J3 2016 there is not a good reason to install an app from Google Store if you use the we site instead. I did it with Yahoo and my financial institution then a did "uninstall" the staa of the app saving internal/external storage. Yes, phone is little on the cheap side, put it is cheap.. And trust me i abused it for a 1 year now, and it holding strong. Memory of the phone is more than 90% full and SD card of 16GB is more than 90% full, and no glitches, a little lagging when 30 apps are open but you just close them, clean cash and ram and it works as now.. I used many budget phones last few years and none of them held up as good as this one..

Yes, the wifi signal breaks, if you conected bluetooth but that problem is because wifi and bluetooth work at the same signal - 2,4 GHz. Battery have good life no problems with charging. Screen is super. Which other phone with this price have super amOLED screen with HD resolution and protection with dragontrail glass? Oh and NFC - i'm from Bulgaria, Europe and there j3 phones have NFC and camera is 8MP. Only negatives are the sensors, no LED flash on front camera, plastic corpus, android lollipop(it's old) and no fingerprint. But for this price phone is Super!

They say it's the bare basics, but it's even less. It's so stripped of basic functionality, like no gyro sensor that tells your GSP software which way you are facing ie no compass. It has so little in-built memory you'll be lucky to fit one decent game on there. Forget expending you storage, the phone insist on installing most of everything on the inadequate internal memory. This phone is worth $50, let alone the $300+ I paid for it. I wouldn't give this phone to my worst enemy. Avoid it like a disease' because that's how much grief it's going to cause you.

Great phone. Really surprised me for the price (€125). Quite snappy, much better than other budget phones I've had. Battery lasts very long. Screen does not have the annoying defect that my old S7 had and Samsung refused to fix. Small cons: - Can't remove huge bundled MS Office apps and the storage is only 8GB - No auto brightness. Annoying Other than that, great value for money.

It's decent. I have to constantly restart my Wi-Fi, no NFC, no auto brightness, and I have had to reset 5 times. But it is reasonably capable in the multitasking and web browsing department, and had decent battery life. The camera is terrible though.

You may be able to make the argument that 8 GB of storage and 1.5 GB or RAM are not enough to be *productive* with Marshmallow. In my experience, unless you're gaming, 1 GB is more than enough RAM. But, with devices such as the BLU Studio G2 on the market running Marshmallow with 8 GB of storage and **512 MB** of RAM, it is obviously possible to run Marshmallow with those specs. However, you may not enjoy the experience.

I just helped a friend activate her ATT 16GB version of this J3 (2016) phone. I thought we'd be able to just swap her SIM from her old S4 because I looked up the specs to be both Micro SIM cards, but her J3 ended up having a Nano SIM slot. It's good that AT&T sent a new nano SIM with the new phone anyway, but it could've been a headache without it!

Just checked eglobal USA's website. They don't seem to have a Canada-specific site. Their lowest posted price for the Galaxy j3 2016 was US$132, on sale from a regular price of $189. That sale price would work out to about CA$177. That's comparable to the prices I'd quoted earlier. I didn't bother checking to see what extra currency exchange surcharges there may be (PayPay typically charges at least an additional 3%) or what shipping options are available. However, at the "regular" price, it would be significantly more expensive. It just goes to show, you should shop around, because sale prices come and go all the time, and the best price today might not be the best price tomorrow.

I think this phone is a good phone. Very up there with the samsung galaxy s7. Its a little old but cheaper. The phone worls like any other phone from samsung. I have one issue and that is the camera. The camera is not as good as it could be but you have to suck it up and make a good decision on which phone to buy.

I just purchased this phone a few days ago and it's definitely a good quality phone. Mine is the 16gb phone which I think is plenty. The phone itself has a good quality metal feeling, I think it's just plastic. The phone is really up there with all the newer phones as such as features. And it's setup with android which is likr every other android, they just fancied up the look of the icons and all that. Honestly, it's like a newer galaxy 6 or 7 just maybe a few cheaper parts and slightly smaller. But like I mentioned, all around good quality. Also, i think I spelled everything right.

I doubt the 2016 model of J3 will ever see Nougat. But it definitely has received Marshmallow. At the very least, the carrier unlocked version sold in Canada definitely ships with Marshmallow. If your device is locked to a carrier, then the blame probably rests with your carrier. If you have a factory unlocked variant, then the blame rests with Samsung's local operation in your country.

This sounds a lot like user preferences and (no offense) ignorance other than phone quality. The phone turning off can easily be changed in settings, and while voice to dial is a unique service I haven't heard about in other phones, I'm sure there's an app out there that can do something similar.

Very nice phone but Samsung should work on improving the internal storage... it is already 85% full of pre installed apps, etc.. You can't even download more apps coz you're warned that the system memory is full. This storage issue is common with all 2016 - present phones released by Samsung.. Improve your internal storage

I updated to Samsung J3 2016 two weeks ago. This phone has none of the features that I loved in my older (much older) phone. Absolutely hate this phone! My 6 or 7 year older Motorola had voice option to call. I could speak into the phone to call any ten digits and it would dial them, as well as speaking into the phone to call a contact. Not so with the Samsung J3! Yes, it has speech to text, but not speech to call. Why not? Second problem, if you pause for even a moment without typing something in, you have to "open" the phone all over again! This will happen continually! I have also lost calls (three times from my doctor today)Just would not pick up the calls! Returning to purchase a different phone tomorrow. Thumbs down on Samsung J3 2016

For value it is decent. BUT... If you need to hear the ringer or notification it is below a 1 star!!!! Notifications doesnt allow new ringtones, surprising since the existing sounds are similiar to windchimes in a windless desert. The phone ringer "allows" ringtones, 2 weeks of owning it new ringtones still hasn't worked. Defaults back to its subpar selection.

Correct, The device looses Wifi connectivity when in sleep mode, even when you tell the device to stay awake in the settings menu. Even the *#code# option does not leave Wifi on. This thing can barely run Facebook and Twitter at the same time. It chokes so easy and freezes up. Have to restart all the time. Text messaging is very slow (not network related) it just does not have the computing power to run 3 apps at one time. Stay away.

Biggest piece of crap ever. First one, the camera lens shattered within 2 weeks and Best Buy traded out for another. Now on the second, constant problems with getting stuck in safe mode and volume and ringtone turning down by itself and refusing to turn up. Hey check the back of the case. Open it up and look where the memory card would line up and you should see a little raised section. At least that's on the AT&T version of this phone. If you notice, this little "tab" so to speak is designed to keep the memory card from moving. I'm suspecting yours isn't present or it's not lining up right and results I your card jiggling loose and the phone thinking it's been removed and/or reinserted. Just a thought... hope it helps! I've only had this phone for a day and I gotta admit, I kinda like it especially at around $70ish! Battery lasted great even with heavy use and updates etc... nice feel and nice expensive appearance so you don't look cheap but still have $600 in your pocket after making your purchase!

I just bought my second j3 because I broke the screen on the first and it quit working after a week. Good phone, fast internet with 4g plan...it burns through gigs if you listen to music on mobile network and make sure you "turn off background data" in settings "Data" when not using Wi-Fi. I got my phone at Verizon store, yesterday for $100 and 5 gig/4g $50 pre-paid plan. I'm searching for a screen saver now. If you break your phone, sorry to say replacement parts and costs are as much as a new phone. I've tried.

The phone like most phones of this type is slim and easily dropped. It can slip through your hands. I bought a cheap flip case and put on a screen protector and it's fine. Maybe not trendy but does the trick. It's a very good phone in its price range.

Just purchased this phone from Boost Mobile and I am delighted thus far with its performance. The Boost variant has 1.5 GB of RAM and 16 GB of ROM with a 1.2 GHz Snapdragon 410 Processor and Adreno 306 Graphics. The battery lasts a whole day + on a single charge even with the LTE (4G) enabled. I lose about 1-2 percent battery capacity per hour if I take conservation measures. The 720 x 1280 display is nice. The AMOLED seems to handle well. The Boost variant comes with Android Lollipop 5.1.1 out of the box, I hope that an upgrade to at least Marshmallow is being considered. The earpiece audio is excellent. I also got excellent reports on my voice from the phone (bottom microphone). The Speakerphone is fair, the ringers and alerts could be a bit louder. I will update my post at a later date.

Definitely j3 2016 is better, generally I'm not a fan of Media tek chipset. They have same battery but j3 screen is way better. Also j3 has better camera with hdr.

I bought a J3 phone on 02/11/2016 and on 02/12/2016 the screen just cracked, I did not drop it I just discovered when I wanted to make a call. The plastic protector was not affected. The shop dealer refused to replace it.

The bloatware is terrible. Along with system file, they use more than half of memory. The ads is intrusive. I know I could use custom ROM but the phone supposed to be good to go out of the box. The hardware is good though. Very nice and slick.

J5 and A3 are both better than J3 J5 vs A3 however... it all comes down to wheather you prefer a 4.7 inch screen or a 5.2 inch screen and if you like to have a removable battery or it doesnt matter to you

the specification states that the device can use 802.11n yet i cant seem to connect to the 5ghz network infact the wifi scan doesnot even pick up the signal. i tried to manually add the wifi to the network but nothing still help needed to resolved the issue

Hi I am using j3 2016 since august.Now I have a problem regarding whatsapp .When I am sending any video to my friends via whatsapp(The videos either recorded in other android device like moto g2 and later that video sent to j3 device) using j3 the video is sending smoothly to them.But later when my friends after downloadin playing on their devices they are complainting that video is not playing smoothly(sound is coming out properly but in picture some kind of greenish thing.Dont know how to define it properly).Plz helm me or at least suggest it.

If you happen to have downloaded apps that consumes your battery too much I advise you uninstall them right away. All bloated apps if you happen to have those kindly uninstall as well. Too check it out just go to Settings>Battery and check the apps you have that consumes the battery the most. Hope this helps.

got this phone 3 days ago and it's absolutely great for its price camera decent, design good and wow the battery is fantastic, I browse a lot made downloads today i made few calls, listened to music on average, on full charge arrived home evening battery still at 42%, I like most of its functionality but got one problem the Internet is so slow doubt it's even edge let alone 3g/4g, think it's a software issue I'm not sure. got a software update 264mbs can't tell what it is anyone tried that?

I got a message that said Emergency Maintenance Reboot. Then choices appeared but started scrolling on it's own before I could even read them. It made it's own choice and a green robot started twirling with the word "ERASING". I couldn't get it to stop. I took it to the local Verizon where I was told it wiped everything, even factory settings from the phone. I was told it happens randomly, nothing I did that it is a Google issue. Are the the phone water proof. I drop my phone in a pit with a depth of 1.8meters. It took 20 minutes to recover my phone and it was still on. It switched off after about 20 minutes. I took out the battery and put it in a bowl of rice.

Good if you have a Brewsters Millions type challenge to throw your money away in as efficient a way as possible. I bought this phone and got many many long...days of use...precisely 18 in point of fact. Battery ran low in work and ran out before I could charge it. I thought no problem and used my car charger, this was a no go. Went home at the end of the day and used my two main chargers in succession, this also did nothing. I took off the Otterbox I bought with the phone (for extra protection and also a giant money waster as it cannot protect from an ultimately faulty phone) and removed the battery and ensured all was clear, bright and charged, no go. Tried another battery from someone I know with the exact same phone, no go. Brought to the shop, all dead. Nothing they could do. Refused to honour the warranty as I managed to drop the phone and crack the screen while trying to get off the too tight back. Will recommend to everyone who enjoys exasperation and trouble in their lives.

I am having a problem with the sound. My problem is I am on a phone call with my sister in Dayton, OH and then with my daughter who is only a mile away. They hear me but they cut out several times. Just had AT & T send me a new phone because it was under warranty. Tried the new phone while I was still at the AT & T store and it cut out right there when I called my sister. Yes, I am facing problem with the sound. I bought this phone in Jul'16 and within 1 month, lots of problems started. I can't hear the other person on the call, neither can they hear me. The phone keeps hanging (CCE adviced me to free some space and I did that, but issue didnt resolve :( ). More than this, I call at one number from my contact list and it goes to someone else. As this was not all, today in the morning, i had a major disaster, when few calls were ringing on my phone and i was unable to pick or answer the call, the option of rejecting the call was available though. I was facing few issues with Samsung mid range (8000 to 15000) smart phones previously, but this time, I thought, it might have improved, but the problem is still there. Please advice if someone else is facing any of these issues with Galaxy J3.

While the layout, appearance, camera, operating speed, and much of the software of the Galaxy S3 and S4 seem overall very good - both phones have the same flaws. Charging ports and cables that routinely fail, and particularly the S4 - very thin, fragile, crappy screen. Neither phone survived a two-year contract. I'm being directed to the Galaxy J3 as a replacement which I am not reading much to indicate will be any better. Very disappointing....

Unfortunately, I wouldn't recommend the J3 to anyone...other than having a great camera, there isn't a whole lot I like about this phone. The screen scratched way too easily and some of the apps on my S3 aren't compatible or not available on the J3. The phone gets hot when you use it for too long and it times out after 15 mins (the highest setting) and I have to sign in again. Every time I sign back in and my wifi is on, it automatically opens up a web page. And to top it all off, the J3 is bigger and heavier than my S3 making it an albatross to carry around!! Sorry Samsung, just my opinion!!!

I use a jabra that clips on the visor. If you activate your bluetooth and then see your car stereo and it pairs up and says it pairs up then it should work. If not you probably need to call the maker of the stereo. I called jabra and they helped me connect

If it's a prepaid WITH AT&T, you need to get it unlocked. Go to unlockriver.com and plug in your info and see if they can. I've used them on an AT&T LOCKED S3. Done & done. No issues. They are a reputable. Good luck

Bought this phone 8-13-16 and I love it. I am not a slave to my phone like half the world is so this phone is perfect for me. Love it so much that I went and got my husband one also. I don't understand why everyone keeps asking about marshmallow. Our phones came with it. No problems with adding additional storage sd card. I'm not a selfie type of person but the camera is great during the day and ok in low light. Be sure to purchase a protective case and tempered glass coating for it.

Incorrect: I have a dualsim, however with 8GB of ram. Mind that in contrast to other makes...3,21 is already in use by the system. You can order a J3 2016 (single sim) or a J3 2016 Duos. The Duos is indicated on the backplate. I'm not sure about the dualsim location in shared use for an additional SD card.

I learned about massive issues they came out with marshmallow in selectedcountries and or selected carriers... people not havong wifi anymore or not being able to dialout on their phones. So despite the rumours that the j serie would get a marshmalliw update on the globe... they have rollout issues. Besides nougat is approaching... I think they are terrifiedto get massive warranty claims to reset phones back.

I at first considered the same... on my duos s7562 of 2012 i had the gadget now i don t. I checked upon the navigation ...its not impacted by it. I see pokemon go exploits one ...so you are disoriented by knowing the north. However pushing the compass in the game shifts the map indicating the north. So to me gps is being yor compass...so unless you are in the middle of the ocean not much of a concern

I think it's a good phone better than the Sony xperia M2 which I had before that kept overheating and camera waso awful and froze. This phone has more choices on it and better quality and it definitely one I would recommend. The battery life is good if you don't use it too much . Lasts longer too than most other phones

I had a pretty low budget phone before I got the J3. So for me the features are great. The pros include a camera takes pretty sharp images, it’s fast, and the pixel quality is great. The con includes poor video recording quality and the loudspeaker is horrendous, playing music on the J3 is a complete drag, even boosting it to the maximum volume isn’t much help. Overall I’m very satisfied and happy I bought it.

This site is loaded with negative comments from ( in most cases ) people who have recently bought this model, yet, some of the terminology indicates madgreat understanding of components fitted, which componenet/s they would like to see fitted and where SAMSUNG have made such a 'cock-up' with this model. I have the same too, it works in 80% of cases, but sometimes despite the carrier indication 4G is active there is no data transfer at all. Despite all being suggested on the internet , a workaround I use , is to switch back to 3G/2G, then in 80% of situations it connects again. If it does, then switch to 4G/3/G/2G once again and you are connected to 4G once again. However leaving to 3G/2G by default has the same issue, not working in 20% of cases. So use the switch backward/forward trick to get your dataconnection back. Its a bug, but I came up with this workaround. Its Android OS (Lollipop 5.1.1) is crappy.

J3 is a bad choice really. It has problems with its 4G implementation. It works but one out of 3 to times besides the carrier detection and 4G detection, there is just no data stream. Other people using 4G at the same time/place have no issues at all. Its a brand new device. Here another persons problem with (somehow even worse, but related)

Me and my son play Pokemon, he has a Motorola Moto E gen 2 but as it comes to play Pokemon, he has much less GPS connectivity issues, and much less 4G connectivity issues. I said to myself ok its Pokemon. But the last couple of days despite the 4G indication, I do not have any kind of internet connection, at first i thought ok its my battery low state, but no I get it more and more, the device is only 1 month old. I've seen here that many others report the same problem. I hope an update will rectify it as I really bought it to read whatever I feel to in the train. This is a big disappointment. I will have to go to the shop and claim my warranty on this.

I actually experienced this too when I got this phone two days ago. But the moment I upgraded it, it stopped. So I'll advise you to go to the Software Update section and upgrade it, it's just about 450mb in size.

I got this as a work phone. I have a LOT of trouble with the connection cutting out. I looked this up and it seems like a common issue. Like it's a cheap phone, and it's grand otherwise, but since it regularly loses connection it doesn't function well as an actual phone. I have done a lot of hard resets which fix the issue for a while. The phone is encrypted and has a micro SD card to expand the storage (32GB). It's dissapointing

First see on its back panel. If it contains mark "duos" its dual sim else not. Second u may see Sim Card Option in settings. If its duos, even then remember its Sim-1 slot and Sd card are one unit. Sim 1 is inserted beneath memory card. Use appropriate sim size. Sim-2 is easy to insert though

Attention distinguish J3 with J3 6 / J3 2016 as they are quite different. J3 2016 is delivered with Lollipop, but I'm offered the option to upgrae to Marshmallow. I didn't like the Lollipop skin / Samsung overlay on it. Boy what is it ugly. I prefer the Kitkat/launcher, so much I would even do a downgrade to it if it were possible..... Satisfied with its 4G, as I travel to work by train and allows me to read whatever I feel to. High ram usage out of the box though, but the J3 2016 already has 1.5GB ram to that helps. For those who can afford it, never buy a phone with less then 1.5GB ram or even go up to 2GB. Not bad for its price. I wanted to buy the Samsung A3 2016 but it was more expensive and there were delivery problems with its dualsim/duos editon, so decided for the J3. The J3 with its 5 inch is a but dumb to me, the 4,7 of the A3 would have been ideal. I'm not a big fan of very flat phones, it feels like a pancake... so I'd still go for the dimensions of the S4 or S5 instead. Personal feel score 5/10 Functional score 9/10
