Have had this phone for about 5 years already, my father had it before me, as well. Still works great, even though I lost count of the times I dropped it. The screen is worn off already, the camera is bad, but I'm impressed with the durability of the phone itself and the battery life. My friends even nicknamed my phone Nokia. I was even offered to get a smartphone for free instead of this one, but I refused. I will upgrade soon, but this phone I will remember for a long time.

Hi all, I have this phone for four years now,although I use it as secondary after I got a bb9320. The samsung star still rocks,to install games offline,use uc browser to "save",then install MiniCommander (google it),after that put your downloaded "jar" file into a folder with the game name,open MiniCommander.you will see two windows,in the first windows tap "/filesystem/" and leave it,go to 2nd window and go to where your folder with the "jar" game is, copy it (press 5) to "filesystem", after that,open the folder you copied and go to options>file>make jad. You should now see two file with same name,one is jar and one is jad,both are needed for the next process of installing your game. Exit MiniCommander and goto keypad type in *#5239870*# > "internals"(this will ask for "master code" which is *#7092463*# > "storage settings" > "update media database" ; "update java database" ; "update app database" ; "create ax dat file". Exit and goto your games folder...TADA!!!:D, your game is there, although the title will show "MiniComm...",just rename it to your game and enjoy :P, the code I used explian the game installation was used on my phone, the same code that is for new firmwares from december 2010, if it doesn't work,search for the old admin menu code on google, the process to install the games remain the same. Hope this helps those who can't install games through phone browser or PC :)

I had s5230 star(wifi but doesnt matter), and im not really happy with its software, allthough it IS an old phone, hardware is good, but software is so badly done. Browser, java, video player are the weakest points in the phone, and online video streaming(e.g youtube) doesnt work...

I purchased my Samsung GT-S5230 in 2010, and payed 110 Euros for it, factory unblocked for all networks (sounds like nothing worth mentioning, but here in my country - Portugal - it IS a big deal, since networks feel they have the right to own property to each phone after they are sold (LMAO).. I still have it, and it's still a GREAT phone for my humble needs. The camera is actually EXCELLENT for a 3.2 MP, pictures get WAY better after they have been transfered to your PC, and so do the videos. The TOUCH screen interface could be better, I know mine works slower because I DELIBERATLY left the protective clear sticker ON. All the scratches are therefore superfial, as you can imagine. Memory card is 4 GB , the one I personally use - so that the factory software doesn't get "laggy" as mentioned. It CAN be upgraded to 16 GB, but me personally can't listen to so many songs in one day, or take that many pictures... Now it has a "low-cost" (marking designation) price of � 50,00 - if BLOCKED to a carrier ( such as TMN). I won't sell mine, still works great, have no use for Internet in my phone, this battery exceeds one WEEK every time, still with 3 YEARS regular usage.. Works great as an MP3 player or FM radio when you are walking around, reception is excelent. All MENUS are easy and intuitive, this was a mid-level phone when it was lauched back in 2009, I really don't get why anyone would expect for it to perform as a high-end phone, anyway... lol In a NUTSHELL: one of the BEST value for money phones I've ever owned, and I use them since 1997..so ;)

I owned the Samsung Star for nearly two years, since last August I have an HTC One V with Android 4.0.3 and hell does it make a difference. Today I've used it again for the first time since I bought my HTC and it was just horrible. This phone is laggy, the touchscreen doesn't work properly, the camera is pretty awful, it doesn't even have wifi(so apps like Facebook won't work unless you have a mobile data contract or you're willing to pay a ridiculous amount of money for browsing without contract). Maybe this was a nice phone back in 2009, but now I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. Rather spend 50 bucks more and buy a cheap smartphone (or wait til the Nokia Asha 501 comes out which will only cost $90, it's way better than this).

nowadays no wifi phone is only selling less than RM100. How come when asked whether it is supported by Android , nobody replies. This phone is RM450, no wifi, internet connect through GPRS, not supported by Android, i think it is a bit too much lah. I've had this phone for over a year and I am very pleased about it. The design is nice, but I have to say the paint got off rather quickly for me, and I got some scratches on the screen pretty fast as well, although I use and store it with care. The camera works great for a 3.2 megapixel camera. It doesn't have a flash light though and it can't zoom in very far. The touch screen works great. It even works great with a stylus, which makes browsing the internet and drawing on the phone easy. The internet does work quite slow for me, but I don't have a subscription which allows me to browse the internet fast. It's a real shame though that the phone doesn't have WiFi. It also doesn't support Android and thus no Android Apps, but it still support a great range of games. One of the fun specs about this phone is the accelerometer sensor. It's nice to use for some games, but the sensor isn't very accurate. The one in the Samsung Wave for example works way better. It cost me �90,00 and I think this is a reasonable price for a phone with these specs. I'm happy with it.

I have it for more than 2 years and the battery still lasts about a week with enough talking time. It has one of the best speakers I have found (I could hear pretty good even when I was at a rock concert) and it has a very good loudspeaker. Yes, it's touch screen is slow in response but don't forget that it's a 3 years old smartphone which you can now find with 60-70 euros. If you want a PHONE, to do your job it's a very good choice. If you want a SMARTPHONE, you should look somewhere else ;)

I think this is an excellent phone. It beats many of the more later models of phones out there. It is user-friendly, offers great quality, and it is stylish as well. Rems, I've had that same issues. After acquiring setups from my network provider,and installing them,my 5230 was connecting flawlessly. Am using it for about 5-6 months and sm very satisfied. The only issue is lack of Wi Fi and Edge sometimes flinches,but otherwise is worth every cent.

I find it quite easy to type, i have even managed to make a few scripts. The j2me platform of this phone is also unsatisfying. It is annoying that I had to use a j2me app to edit text files. It is interesting that the built-in browser is Webkit-based, but the slowness of the GPRS did not enable me to enjoy that. The social network integration is quite good, however, I don't use that...

This is the worst phone I have ever had the misfortune to own! I have had several Samsung phones before which were all good but this one is not. The touch-screen is unresponsive, the predictive text was probably designed by someone who has never spoken English before and it just decides to cut off in the middle of a conversation when there is no problem with the signal. hi emmanuel. in reply to your inquiry, you may contact your network service provider if video streaming is enabled on your account. make sure that flash is turned on. i also use a samsung star. when i use a different network, i can play videos. but when i used the other network, i cant seem to play youtube. when i called them up, they informed me that they're network is not capable for video streaming. hope this helps!

This is the best phone i've ever had till now. This phone has a solid build quality. I've dropped my phone 100 times but this phone never fails to impress me with its solid quality i've even dropped this phone into a lake when i was drunk and when i found it after a minute of searching i immediately removed the battery and allowed to dry in the sun after an hour i switched it on and it was working like new no problems at all the side panels have scratched and the touchscreen also is pretty much scratched but this never lacks calibration almost a feather touch is still enough after so much of wear and tear. Sound quality is amazing and connectivity is superb. I have this phone with me for 2 years now and still i love it so much.my phone still gives a battery backup of 4 days with heavy use and 6 days with light use AMAZING!!! I've had a Nokia 6300 before this one and people call it a solid phone but according to my experience star is more durable though it looks plastic. I am planning to upgrade myself to android but this one will always remain as a sweet memory forever.

Hi, I bought this phone last month. Excellent phone I must say. But I am having trouble when I attempt to charge my phone. Sometimes(Not every time) the phone automatically shut down when I connect it with charger. Any solution for this? Please help me.

Really good phone. Had it for exactly a year now only problem ive had is that sometimes my phone restarts when i put eh phone down on a little too hard, not happend with any others that i know of and about 5 friends have the same phone. i would recommend it to anyone looking into getting this phone. my contract has now ran out but i get a free phone upgrade with a 24month contract so im gonna go for a new phone but im definatly keeping this as a backup :D

nice phn. few prbs: while the sms is in 'sending' mode, no other apps can be operated. Sms delivery msg delivered separated, tick on the sent msg wud hve been more useful.

I've had mine for since July 2010, so about 8 months, and for the first time, while i was listening to the radio, the whole screen turned off. None of the hard keys would work, yet the radio was still going... so i had to take the battery out because it was the only way to restart... Anyone else had a similar issue???

I bought my partner tocco S5230 for xmas..no it doesnt come with a touch pen,But i gave him my touch pen from my nintendo DS which he finds much easier to use on the touch screen,if you have'nt got a Nintendo you can by the pens seperately..hope this helps..

The fear of not accepting 3rd party applications have been solved in Star Nxt (India launch). It is taking almost anything, YouTube is good. Only cud nut send out email from Hotmail native client, though Gmail from native email client is working fine albeit slow, aaaah - very slow. Gmail application from google is fast. Any help for Hotmail succesful users ?? Tried evry possible combinations. Thanks in adv !!

Excellent phone !! Indian release of Star Nxt. Bought @INR5550 ! Full movie convertion works upto 320x240 @29.97fps and 384bps with AnyVideoConverter. Playing is smooth though fast forward looses the audio sync. Net is fast with TataDocomo with data upto 30kpbs during off peak. Only cud not work email client.

Nothing to complain about the phone. I own one for 3 months and it's all ok, but i have to complain about how stupid people can be. Stupid asks: "DOES IT HAVE 3.5 jack?". Look at the specifications and photos and search on the other tens of sites with specifications and photos available and find out yourself. The answer's RIGHT THERE! Others ask of a vga cam, no mp3 phone if it has microSD slot. ffs people! THINK BEFORE YOU ASK/type. You'll come to realize how AMAZING your brain is IF YOU USE IT! phone is good ;)

Its not possible to move ur messeges from phone memory to memory card. Instead try to load ur all messeges to the Samsung PC Suit and then delete all ur phone messeges and free ur phone memory for the messeges.

I only bought this phone today and it suits me down to the ground. It provides facebook access via a widget, but no twitter, easily sorted by downloading Snaptu. The only problem I personally have with this phone is setting pictures as wallpaper, for some reason it wont resize up, only sideways. Which means that pics are either to zoomed in or to small to see. Also, a minor niggle, the included software refused to work after updating, but that was also sorted by downloading the new version from samsung directly. A cracking little phone all in all

Yeah I know that, but then again: today an incoming call came, and I wanted to put it on silent. The volume buttons are for this job, but when the display goes dark (after the 5th ringing), ALL button functions die on the phone. Except the unlock button of course which you have to press for 4 seconds at least to take effect.

I've just started using this phone but can help u on one point that during an incoming call when keys are locked, u can unlock them by pushing the black coloured button given on the right side of the phone. I think since it is a touch screen phone, tht is why the phone got locked during the call so tht by the touch of user's face any unwanted key does not start functioning.

Most widgets (that require internet) cannot use internet. What a paradox! 4. During an incoming call, while the phone rings and the keys are locked and the display goes dark to keep on ringing, the keys cannot be unlocked. You have to wait for the call to end. And redial the missed call. 5. Cannot play any flash/java via its internet browser. I'm talking mainly about youtube and facebook. 6. Camera: CANNOT FOCUS. Shutter button with one function. It only has autofocus that works when there is enough light. 3.2 Mpixel camera makes a big picture with low resolution. The picture's size is big, the quality bad. (advice: use it on 1MP. Makes photos faster.) 7. Copies files from card to phone if you use them as ringtone or contact photo. If you use the same ringtone for 10 different contacts, it will make 10 copies of it on the phone's memory. (advice: make a folder on the phone's memory and use the file from that folder.) 8. Disconnects from bluetooth headphones randomly while the cell is in my pocket or in the car. But WHY??? 9. Voice recorder can only record up to 5 minutes. Again: WHY??? 10. There is no 10 yet. But if you know of a cellphone that does all the above in the correct manner, I advice you to think twice before you buy the S5230. I got it for free! :-)

I used this phone for about 6 months and the touchscreen became misaligned. For instance, in order to press an icon/number on the touchscreen, i would have to tap on the area much further below the actual icon/number that i wanted to activate. i took it back because it was still under warranty and they gave me a new phone because Samsung couldn't fix it or it was cheaper for them to give me a new phone than to fix the touchscreen. The new one is working great. I think I may have messed up the first one by dropping it into the ocean a few months prior to the touchscreen misbehaving :-O but don't think i told the supplier that!

Samsung star is just a java phone. its not a smart phone. and thats its biggest disadvantage. rather buy yourself nokia 5230 its an almost up to date smart phone with 3g but no wifi symbian os based. After about a year the buttons go dodgy.i own it for a year and a half.the "back" button stopped working a few months ago.The green button some times dosen't work. It was good when it came out first.I dropped fom half way up the stairs on to a tile floor and the screen wouldn't work . i got it fixed for free thanks to being with Meteor.the buttons still worked though. Dear All, I am using dis from 2weeks it�s a great phone slim, light weight and sharp screen, its touch screen is very impressive but stick is not given but u�ll not feel, security functions like password options on many folders including My Files, Videos, Massages etc are plus point for Samsung. Sound quality is good on a speaker and on a hands free u can change sounds with equalizer like Rock, Jazz, Dance etc�if I say it wouldn�t wrong sound quality is good then Nokia. But Sony Ericson mobile gives a out class sound quality no doubt and second Samsung. Its picture quality is excellent v can compare with Nokia 5mp and with upper versions. Internet speed on hand set is good without Walan and 3G impressive and its battery is also covers long time. It�s a great invention within its price very cheap as compare to Nokia and others.

Bought this phone in April, and am still using it. Here's what i think. Telephony: Good. You will hardly complain about your call quality. Messaging: SMS,MMS is good, but the email is somewhat dissapointing. You have to input settings manually, and when you check your mail, it downloads your whole mailbox, which is nonesense really. Connectivity: With a strong 2G network, you will slightly be impressed. But the lack of both 3G and Wi-Fi is deeply saddening, considering the somewhat good flash support on the handset(keyword being somewhat) Camera: Wont replace your standalone camera, but will take decent shots on a sunny day. If you are an indoor photographer, you will be dissapointed. Browser: Page rendering good...but the unintuitive user interface kills it. Zooming feature is slow, and page navigation is dampened by the slow touch response. Conclusion: Nice touchscreen phone, price is hard to beat. Bottom line, if you haven't used a touchscreen phone before, its nice to check out, but if you are already a seasoned user, cough up some more dough and get a better one. With a capacitive screen, 3.5G and Wi-Fi, and a CPU in there, you will be happy, very happy

Excellent phone for the price, Very clear sound and speaker-phone, Also the touch screen is much better and more accurate than LG Cookie. Battery life is excellent, Easy to navigate menu and the screen is crisp and clear with vivid colours. Ok, it's not a 3G Phone, but for this price it should be sufficient for everyday use and texting. Camera also takes decent shots, and Pls do me a favor and don't listen to those whiners, complaining about the touch screen, cause they don't know squat about phones.

I have this phone for a few months and to be honest I never thought I would have bought this phone. It has a camera that is decent for normal user, good music, touch screen, wi-fi, good games to play while bored. I am not a heavy phone user, and for me this phone is affordable for the price. I bought it for about Rm 700 but then the price has decrease, and it is not out of fashion/trend yet. It easily fits mu pocket too :D

Hi guys, I have been using Samsung Gt-S5233S Star, for about 8 months now. I am very happy with the mobile so I just wanted to post my experience with this mobile. Before you go further into my review, let me clear one thing that I am aware about Android, Windows Mobile, Bada and other top OS for mobiles. But still I have my opinion about this mobile, so I am expressing my opinion. I have even added a 8Gb memory card to my mobile with 2 movies and 12 video songs, which are all 30fps and high quality videos. And I have never seen this mobile getting stuck while playing them. though the screen size is small, you wont feel that's a big issues as video clarity is good. But while playing the videos, the touch screen response is too bad as the processor is completely used by the application. It has document viewer(no editing), for office tolls. But its just a joke ;-) Its audio clarity is extremely satisfying while using Ear phones, but loud speaker is a joke. Camera clarity is too good if we take the picture in the day light or when the surrounds are bright enough. Videos taken by this mobile are again not up to the mark, but they will do :-( Screen touch or screen reception is not the best, but good. If you want to know anything more, just post your question, and I will try to answer them as soon as possible. NO Wifi...only bluetooth... Browser is also too good..you can even save images and also watch youtube videos..but some videos loose their clarity while playing in this mobile Vincent :-)

When I bought the phone it was great, but in 3 weeks time, the phone started to give problems. First the phone's touch screen started to give problems like crazy. Whenever I try to dial a number, something really bad happens. When I press #1 on the phone, #4 comes on the screen. And it is the same for the other numbers. The scribe that I got with the phone, scratches up the screen whenever I try to use it to touch or write on the phone screen. The phone also does not give you enough space to write a little note or something to remember. When you are using the radio on the phone, it does not give you the option to name the radio station. The problems that come with this phone are so many, that when you try to sell back the phone. No one wants it because of so many problems. I know. Because I have been trying to sell back the phone for 5 months now and no one wants it.

All 3 phones Samsung S5230 i am talking about had the same problems such as: poor audio in calls(some strange noises when I am on call), drops calls, powers off. Bought this phone 10 months ago.Sent it back in next few days. Got the new one, sent it back next day, got the third one which I have for 10 months, it is repairing third time now. I would never recommend it to anybody!!!!

*I miss my star! My first touch screen phone.. I'm one of the first people that had this phone during the hype of low priced touch screen phones. Which the samsung star and the lg cookie is neck to neck in sales and which one is better.. (of course the star is better) haha! **During those times, for me, samsung star is the best! And i really enjoyed the great display and the great response of the touchscreen including the battery life. I used to have one of this but sold mine to buy an ipod touch! Now, I'm currently using x6 which is so much better than this..

Had this phone for 8 months now.. I love it.. So damn love it. ♥ So simple and easy to use. Love the resistive touchscreen. If you text a lot, it would not be a problem with the Star. Music and video player is excellent. Browsing on the internet is simple yet magnificent. Good battery life. Display is impressive, colors are so vibrant (in all Samsung phones I guess) I just wished it has a flash for taking photos. Nonetheless, Pretty much a good touchscreen phone considering its affordable price.. I recommend you to buy one now. LOVE it.. ♥

It's normal, you don't have night foto on that phone. Even good machines don't take nice night photos without flash. If you want to take photos at night buy a good camera. cheers.

I have had this phone for a bout 9 monthes now, and i am very dissapointed. It has around 32 thick lines on the bottom of the screen which makes it difficult to see what is on the bottom of the screen, which is really annoying. The camara has no flash which i dont like. I have this phone with the carrier Virgin Mobile, and i dont like virginmobile. The phone slows down when you put a memory card in, and also it is a pretty slow phone before you put the memory card in. It doesnt give you the option of G-MAIL. If you want to text with the QWERTY keyboard it is very difficult because the keys are quite small. I seen someone write that they are small and i didn't take note, but i really wish i did. Although 2 of my friends also have this phone, 1 of them wants to get a new phone as well, but the other is more then fine with hers. I guess it just depends on if you are a patient person. I am getting eather the Nokia E63 or Nokia C3. Hope you make the right choice for you. (: x.

I Bought this phone a year ago, I'm very happy with it. It works like a dream, the touch is light and the battery lasts. I only have two problems, it has no flash and mine didn't come with a stylus, which is weird.

Samsung S5230 is a good choice if you want a cheap phone which uses touch screen, but if you want anything other than call or to do sms then you got to forgot this phone as fast as possible. I'm buying a new phone after 1 year of agony and it will take seconds to forget this one I think.

yeah and my phone fell around 10 times and once in a lake... i took out the phone immediately from water and dried it in sun and it started working.... no water damage nothing...once my phone also fell down from the 1st floor on the stairs... it bounced step by step all the way downstairs and nothing happened to it AMAZING phone....

Iam using this phone for almost 18months this is the best phone ever... my touch is like feather touch i dunno why... my frnd also has the same phone but his phone seems like crap... i fell my phone is special... it doesnt hang and it is also faster than other star... i am using a 16gb micro sd like a charm no problem at all... music quality is awesome... camera is also good but i wud rather prefer my 12mp canon for pics..lol... my touch is scrathfree even without a scratch guard you wont believe... my phone gives battery backup upto 4 days easily with moderate use and 3 days with heavy use(nokia batteries suck). The best part i like abt this phone is its touch screen its almost like feather touch like in i-phone...dunno why..

a call can be recorded, while on call unlock the phone then on the lower right corner press virtual button "More". here u will get the options to record the call and to send the sms to any person while on call.

Basic Features: Call � Good reception and very clear and loud sound. Speaker phone volume also very loud and clear. Bluetooth � Normal working. Can take remote of other phones. Stereo Bluetooth and hands free supported. MP3/FM � Good Sound (Not as good as nokia express music but still very decent). Playlists. Album view with album art. FM standard. Good interface. Games/ Apps � Java games apps can be installed. Camera � 3.2 megapixel. Good pictures in day light. But low at night due to no flash. Amazing Panaroma feature. Other options in camera are usefull. Smile detection available. Battery life good. (3-4 days on single charge which includes using 1-2 hrs of music and hour of calling). turning off keypad tone without changing normal mode..just go to the menu then to your phone profiles then u have your normal mode double arrow at the side and at the right upper side select phone sounds scroll down then to the phone sound volume make it 0...thats it gud luck..

Am really amazed that some guys who hv used the phone hv given positive reviews. Let me first list out the flaws.camera doesnt hv a flash, cant record a cal, cant do anything else while one a cal. same situation wen u r msgin a group(thank god it allows only 10 at a time). even ordinary nokia phones do better here. thers a huge problem with videos.until n unless i hv transferred a video thats already bin viewed on another phone i cant view it on mine.says unsupported format.my pc suite stopped workin properly within months.was not able to access my phone's internal memory which effectively makes it impossible for me to back-up my msgs frm inbox to my memory card or anywer else for that matter.n nw iam not able to get back the contacts that i had backed-up on my pc into my mobile.says unknown error.the handsfree is of very poor quality.din last even a few months.the total memory internal memory for my inbox+my folders,drafts,sentbox,outbox etc r assigned by default n cant b changed by user preference, which leaves me in a position wer i hv a my inbox completely ful n the rest completely empty.try openin the battery cover of this phone 3 times n the cover becomes useless.they say thers an accelerometer.al it does is rotate the video player,alarm n browser.i hv not seen anythin else gettin rotated in this many days of my use.the browser sux.u cant minimize it.u hv to close the browser with watever u wer browsin if u need to do somethin lik read a newly arrived msg.i hope no one is stupid enuf to stil go for this phone.nokia's 5230 is a far better option(i hv bin told).

The Samsung Star (aka Tocco Lite) phone on paper was suppose to be a high end cell phone lovers dream. However it does not have a 3.5mm audio input jack, no 3G capability, limited internal memory, no camera flash, No GPS, and no Wifi. Samsung really missed the boat with this one. The lack of the input 3.5mm input jack is abosolutely unforgivable. The Samsung Mythic is a much superior product.
