I've had this phone now since 2008 or 2009, so over 5 years, and the battery is still going strong. If I make phone calls / txts / some light browsing, then it might last 3 days, otherwise on idle it still lasts about 1 week! :) I've dropped it a few times, but not really noticeable as the black hard rubberish-like substance has protected it mostly. Otherwise, the middle rocker-key has come off by itself once, and then super-glued back on :) The other massive down-side is the really rubbish microphone, so people can't hear unless you speak up, or in a closed environment, or put your hand near microphone to drown-out the external sounds. Another massive downside is that despite the large storage, it has a fixed storage for messages, so it only holds about 210 sms messages in inbox, and 200 sms messages in sent items - so pretty stupid thinking from samsung. Another huge downside is the rubbish cpu, so even browsing menu's is very slow, so web browsing using Opera mini or the rubbish Netfront browser requires a lot of patience! The only reason I don't replace it is because Android is spyware, iPhone's are too expensive and too distracting, so no other choice. And the newer feature phones from Nokia have terrible display quality (low colour and ppi), and terrible camera, and Firefox OS is too primitive and hard to get in the west, and Symbian is dead and it has massive memory leak issues, so after 2 years the phone will just die by itself. So I guess I'm stuck with this phone for several more years to come...

I love this phone! I have this for like 3 years now, and except for a few scratches and where the paint has peeled off, and the shorter battery life, it still keeps going. It also doubles a reliable 3G modem when I couldn't pickup a WiFi signal on my laptop. If there's one thing I could change I wish it could use both Bluetooth and Modem function as the same time, otherwise it's one heck of a phone. P.S. When I use this as a modem and it's been at it for a few hours, it would get really hot and would sometimes cause it to hang and reboot. The workaround is to make sure you keep it cool

Please do basic troubleshooting: 1. Turn your phone off and on. 2. Remove the battery from your phone. 3. Remove the simcard and microsd memory card for at least 2-5 minutes. Hope it helps.

my phone fell for more than 10 times now since i bought it or maybe more than that lol! and it is still working! haha.. ^^ it's a firm and a great phone for me! i have this phone for more than two years now.. the only problem i've had in this phone was the buttons were falling off and the paint peels off too! if you don't wanna experience those, you should not use it while your hands were wet and don't leave it under the sun.. you shouldn't be reckless like me! =)hope this helps for those people who wants to buy this phone! =)

Claimed to have SyncML - which it doesn't have. Sucks a lot. Has proprietary power/audio connectors instead of USB-mini and 3.5 mm connector. Has a worse antenna compared to all other phones I had.

A superb phone! I don't know why Samsung advertised the U900, when they should have advertised this instead! The camera quality is one of the best ever and many people mistake it for a digicam, even though it's only a 3mp - I use it at 1.3M! I've also dropped it quite a 3/4 times, but the rubber around the edges seems to have protected it, so still no scraches or problems. The only downside, it's extremely slow (especially web browsing with the ancient and rubbishy 'NetFront' browser). The call quality is terrible - people find it very difficult to hear unless I speak up or I'm in a closed environment. And the middle 'rocker' key (up/down/left/right/enter) look as though it may fall off eventually - so I'm protecting it as much as possible. Nevertheless, as I simply only use it for SMS / Camera / and the odd phone call, the phone is simply excellent, especially the professional design.

@Official: No downloaded themes for it, but you have built in theme creator, with all features, including background, patterns, colour tones, transparency, button shadows, fonts. Perfect in my opinion. Phone is slow if you keep a lot of sms'es. I usualy keep only 10 -20 and works perfectly, no lags in terms of seconds. Yes, a few miliseconds you can see when entering the menu. That is miliseconds. Also, use a phone cover and it will look perfect even after 1 year. Enjoy!

As far as know it's not under production anymore but you can always get a second hand one. I just did that a few days ago and I'm still overexcited of it. Simply love this phone. From my point of view it's 10 out of 10.

I just lost this phone on new year eve. It is a great phone. Though. It fell down many time on rough surfaces (2feet) and once in a pail of water. But still working amazingly. I don't have to buy memory & have many song+pictures stored in. Another thing is its the cheapest 3G phone around as it is released few years back.I love the steel cover and many envy me of having this phone at very cheap price. I bought it only at MYR350. I wonder where they still have this. I want it back.

I'll say the phone is ok. I had mine since may 2008 and the only problem I have is signal, but i believe thats just samsung. My daughter washed my phone twice and my husband is a mechanic and let it fall a couple a times and even drove over it and its still alive. Im starting to have problems with the battery now but i still love it. Music player is great.

To save battery, try to adjust the display light. When i connecting on the web, i turn it off the keypad light and set to 1 in the screen light. Then, it wil run into 6hrs straight n connecting on the internet. Tried and tested.

The video call quality is great! u can even shift the camera to work front or back just by pressing the camera button on the side. In short your caller can see you from the front camera and can see also from the back camera in just one press of your button

my friend, it is either you have put a password in your My Files. That can delay the loading of the Phone Explorer. Turn it off from your Security Settings in the Settings menu. Or your RAM reads slowly. You can also reinstall the PC Studio..=)

Kari, you should download that file via wap and not in pc. Jar and jad files can be read by samsung soul provided that you download it via wap.

guys, guys. maybe your phone wasn't able to read your memory card because you installed it while the phone is in use. You SHOULD TURN OFF THE PHONE THEN INSERT the memory card. Works for me. Just wait for about a minute for database update, then you can access it. Changes may occur especially in the Camera. An additional function may appear, which is Storage Options, will let you choose if phone or memory cards. Check also the durabilty and the quality of your card. Phone accepts up to 8gb. glad i can help

there is a tone actually if the battery is low. You can choose all profiles except for silent mode. make sure you turn your alert tones on. Three alerts are given off by the phone then the screen dims.

i just got my samsung u800 soul b a couple of days ago and contrary to some reviews i've read, i was able to find that this phone is indeed a great one... yes, it's not as expensive, as popular or perhaps as technologically advanced as the iphone or other android phones, but this phone really is a good investment.. 1.) its heft and built makes it feel really solid in the hand 2.) it really looks sophisticated and not cheap... 3.) compared to my previous phones, this phone just brings elegance in to my hands... 4.) its pretty secure... my only gripe about it is that it tends to lag a bit when scrolling for photos and contacts... as for the other concerns i've read before re: changing the ring tone and the volume level, i've read before that people said you can't change the tone and the volume level is quite on the quiet side... well, for the ringtone, i just changed it... both for calls and for sms... its a pretty simple task... once you've transferred the file you want to use, just go to phone profile, edit, select which tone you want (there's an option there that's gonna ask you if you want to use your own music file), select that option, select the file you want to use and voila! you've changed it, no problem... being that this phone really looks elegant, i thought that it deserves an elegant albeit a really high class ring tone... since i once salivated for a prada 2, i decided to go to prada's website and downloaded ringtones 1, 2, 3... i then converted those files to mp3 and sent them via bluetooth to my phone... now, i'm using it as message alert tone, voice call ringtone and video call ringtone... that easy... as for the volume, yeah, its a downer to have an elegant phone and yet have it sound weak, but that's okay... its not really a big problem for me since i always put my phones on vibrate mode... re: battery, i find no problems with it... i haven't charged it for 2 days now and the batt's still on 2-bar level... i appreciate how samsung really put attention to the details of this phone physically... having a stainless steel phone has always been a dream and thanks to my dad, i have it now... its like having a vertu phone yet less expensive... i was kinda hoping that samsung included a pouch bag in the box, but hey, no problem i already have one... thanks samsung...

atisfied u800 soul b user here. i've used the phone for 5months now and i never experienced any problem with it except for one which is tolerable though. it only stores 500 text messages which is very irritating that i have to delete from time to time when i reach the 500sms limit. the built is good. camera is great. plus the 1Gb internal memory. awesome specs for very low price.

I bought my unit yesterday, for around 6,450 pesos if paid in cash, and 6,990 pesos for credit card. It's really great. The graphics are good quality. And I think it's a really amazing phone that offers more than you'd think it would at 7k pesos.

Hi, I had my U800 for 2 weeks now and overall it's great but I've been experiencing a slow Bluetooth connection when I'm transferring music or picture from my phone to other devices. Sometimes it takes maybe at least 10 minutes to transfer an mp3. Sometimes it shows sending failed especially when I send 6 3 meg images even though I paired it with a computer successfully. Need some help please...

1st thing you have to do is to call your network hotline if there is a problem with your sms sending... insert your simcard to other handset unit and try to send sms..if it works then the simcard is ok but if it doesnt work in any other handset unit, the problem is in your network and not with your phone...

thank you redge.... i love my u800, its a heavy duty phone since its metal but still classy. but im having a hard time in making a playlist. I have a 4G mem card with 600 song in it. I have to check the songs that i want 1 by 1 just to make a playlist. other than that, 2 thumbs up for u800. ive dropped it so many times and its still ok. plus I think the screen is scratch proof.

go to menu --> settings --> click phone profiles --> then choose normal --> then edit --> look for keypad tone and under that category look for phone sound volume then select 0 as the phone sound volume --> click option then save it then the keypad tone will be locked even if your phone is set in unsilent mode...

go to menu then settings --> phone profiles --> normal (edit) --> go for message alert type then for message alert tone click change and choose "use my alert tone" then select for an mp3 that you want to be your message alert tone...if that's already activated try to send message to your own number and check it out if the set mp3 message alert tone will play as a full mp3 song...

I have been using U800 for nearly 10 months now, and it's been amazing!! I still find people looking at my cellphone and appreciating it, be it for classy looks, the features, the camera quality or the slim body!! If you don't want to use a touchscreen (which are common in 2009/10) then U800 really enhances your personality!! I don't know much about L700 but all I can say is that U800 won't disappoint you!! The ratings in GSM itself tells you the story, isn't it??

huh?3G for taking pictures?your 3G is for videocalling and not for taking pictures....and for 3G concern it depends on your network..even if your phone has 3G feature but your network doesnt support it you will not be able to use it for videocalling...

internet settings?you mean it should be gprs activated?if you are a globe user (if you're in the philippines huh) you can actually download games by your myglobe browser and i think this phone is actually mms and gprs activated even if you dont call the hotline to request for that internet settings....

im not into games but my number is not capable for downloading games since im just using a TM number, but if you are a globe subscriber since im working as a csr of globe telecom especially if your phone is gprs configured, you can actually visit myglobe wapsite and the easiest way to go there is to long pressed 0, then start browsing and follow the procedure on how to find GAMES....click download then games then find the game that you want to be downloaded via your phone..for generic game it costs P30 and for premium game it costs P50....

Its txt message memory is 500 200 Inbox 200 sent box 50 outbox 50 draft so if ur inbox say tht ur memory is full but there is a space, that because it can only held 200 Inbox messages excluding ur simcard memory.

it is true that the standby mode of battery of this unit is up to 400 houirs, 'coz base on my experience on my new phone (U800), before i charge my phone i wait til its battery low then its takes 4 hours to fully charge, AND when im using this or even not using k\just a stand by mode, the battery takes 36 hours only , i hate to use celphone that im going to charge everyday......

Perhaps, it's the browser that's causing the troubles. Internet Explorer is quite notorious for that, i.e, taking too long to load right after a form submission. Better switch to Firefox. No ActiveX junk.

im very disappointed to the store where i purchased my u800, when i discovered to this forum that it includes a leather pouch and 2g card because mine has none. I know its my fault because of my excitement i didnt bother that the boxed the salesman gave is an open box because thats the only unit left on that color so it dosnt matter,, but wat i am having difficulties to accept the fact that there are some stores are not so honest to their costumers. Its just a pouch and card but what is important is the honesty and service they gave to their costumers.. A certain store at TRINOMA, i forgot the name of the store but ill check it out again. tnx

i already done that network selection.. i just bring it back to the store.. unfortunately today, they texted me that the phone had been repaired.. i visited their store, i check my phone and insert my sim.. supposedly, when u open the phone, there will be a signal.. but i encountered the same problem.. i turn my phone on and check manual network selection,, the message appear that searching network was failed and there is still no signal. i showed that to the sales person. they checked again the phone together with the technician. after some minutes, the sales person told me that there is a problem with the main board.. it will take 2-3 weeks to change the main board.. my question is: i had already talk to them, if they there will be no mainboard from samsung, within 3 weeks.. can i demand for the replacement for the unit??? my friends told me that what happened was a defective unit.. so i deserve for a replacement. and i still have full warranty. but i still give the chance for the store to fix the problem.. i am very, very disappointed with what happened.. i been using several phone since 2002, but this is the first time i get involve with this problem with what they talking about with the main board... i hope they will not take for granted with this problem..

Its the best phone ive ever had, everything just fine..browser netfront 3.4 needs a litlle updates but im using opera mini, the metal case is easy to scratch if u dont use it carefully but ive got a free original pouch plus extra micro sd 2gig...video recorder is not really good, i dont need it anyway, camera is good on daylight, music player is clear with headset (bang n olufsen ic i think that what the ^b^ mean), screen is almost invisible on sunlight...but looks very clear n sharp in low light enviroment..3.6 hsdpa modem is good..guys u should buy this phone, in my country this phone is rare right now..its a beautiful phone with lots of features, u can even browse file another phone via bluetooth...

By the way ... PLEASE make sure that the phone profile is set to "Normal". It must be done before anything else. Menu > Settings > Phone Settings > Profiles > Select "Normal".

The reject/block feature of U800 -- for SMS, MMS and incoming calls -- is a built-in feature. NOT depending on country/region and/or service provider. Rejecting Messages : Menu > Messages > Settings > Text Messages > Block Number Or, while reading an SMS in Inbox, go to "Options" to find "Add to block list". No separate block list for multimedia messages. Once a number is blocked for SMS then MMS would also be blocked from that number. Rejecting Calls : Menu > Call Log > Call Manager > Reject List Here you can enter numbers by typing or go to "Options" to "Add" numbers from Phonebook, FDN Contacts, Groups, Recent Contacts. Simple and easy. That's why I just don't like SAMSUNG -- I just LOVE it.

Well I have this phone for 3 days and I realy like it very much, the style are excelent!.. the special features of this phone (create your own theme, put text photos and videos directly on your blog using MobileBog powered by ShoZu) are very nice!.. General using it, searching all menus, this phone is not slow and every seems to run very well, the camera are execelent for these kid of phone, I mean very slim. One problem is the covers, they are made of a material that doens�t protect from scratch, its very easy to damage the covers, so be very carefull with that. In General this phone is very good, execelent quality of sound! really amasing! I never hear something like this before.. the display are very good to, and the comparising of quality and price the result is very very good!

i sms a LOT (50-60/day) and ever since the first day of usage i had to reboot once every day because the phone just randomly fails to send messages. Rebooting takes care of the problem and you can text again right away, but the same thing happens again within a day of moderate messaging. Also, symbols like parentheses cannot be used while in T9 mode. For the screen, having seen a few nokia 16M's i highly doubt this is truly a 16M screen. The numpad is one-piece but despite that, i don't have much trouble with my huge fingers. Pictures may not be enough to tell, but this phone has a very stylish paintjob. Very sexy and great value.

The UI takes a bit getting used to, but that's normal when you switch brands or models. This is my first samsung phone having "turned my back" from an old-time favorite SonyEricsson and I'm not regretting it a bit. Should it be surprising that it works out of the box as a data modem for Ubuntu, which is my real reason for getting it? The keys takes a bit of pressing, maybe it's just new and needs some time to get them all worked up but I got no complaints right now.

Keys kinda crowded for texting (for me) but you'll get used to it after some use. Battery is really good. Display is crisp. Sounds are loud enough to hear even when outside. Has 3G and Secondary Video up front for its price is nice. Has internal of 1GB. Slot for MicroSD. Earphones included are In-Ear which is a nice plus. One thing i didn't like is in the sent items of the Messaging. You can't seem to sort it out according to date sent which i find odd. It should have been a default setting. Other than that a very nice phone for its price range. Lastly Metallic Black is better than Silver =)

I bought this phone just over 3 months ago. It was great at first, but after 2 months, the metal protective coat started to peel off and then it just died on me a few weeks later, when i tried to get it fixed i was told that "samsung cannot be held responsible for the damage to the phone" and that was it, no warantee. Dont buy this phone, go for the Nokia 6120c instead, besides the camera its a much better phone.

I've owned this phone for a few months. Spec wise it's good. Unfortunately it's SLOW. It's the most frustrating phone I've ever owned. I've REALLY tried to speed it up: - I've de-branded the phone's firmware to Samsung default (to get rid of the slow theme) - I've turned off the key sounds (moving around on the menus it waits for the sound to finish before doing anything) - I've switched to custom theme (all the built-in ones have fancy clocks and things on the main screen which slow it down considerably) It's still slow. It's like they've tried to make it as slow as possible. Unlocking is a case in point. It used to be Menu then * on my previous Samsung. I could do it milliseconds. They've ruined it to be * for two seconds but only when no menus are prompts are active does it work. So you press a key and find your mobile is locked and it pops up a message saying "Press * for two seconds" so you have to wait 4 seconds for the message to disappear and then press * for two seconds. 6-8 seconds to unlock! Ahhgg. James

Did anyone see a _JAVA_ app using bluetooth successfully on U800 for anything at all? All java test run on the phone report JSR82 (bluetooth API) as 1.0 present, yet all java apps fail to open bluetooth. BT works normally with the phone's integrated services (file transfer etc.), but not at all through java. I'm trying to connect to my external BT GPS with various java map-apps supporting that, but none is able to.

This phone is not good, I regret decision for purchasing it. Following are some points * Navigation button comes out frequently * Metal case is delecate and prone to scrathes. * Display struggles under sunlight (My Motorola E398 of 2004 had better display) * Sound volume is so less which makes MP3 player useless * Keypad is not proper for typing messages. * Bettery life is low (hardly 2 days) * Lots of features are missing in indian version (like secondary camera, living world theme, customizing of SMS tone, document viewer) Guys, Pls dont go for this model. Samsung is good for waching machines, TVs and Refrigerators.. not for mobile phones.

I purchased this phone a few days ago and its a good phone i must admit. The only problems i have with it is that it doesnt have menu and cancel buttons, and its battery life is extremely short, i have to charge it about twice a day. It sucks really. Ive only bought nokia phones before this one and ive decided from experience that nokia is the best, im definately going for a nokia phone next time.

Dear All, Please stay away from this model. I have Purchased U800 in Nov 2008 and last week it stopped working suddenly. I am from Mumbai India. I went to the Samsung service and even if it is under the warranty period, that guy asked for Rs 1500 for repairing. According to him this problem occured due to seepage of water and could not be covered under warranty. I argued a lot bcoz I know it was working on 4th night and when I got up on 5th morning the screen was blank. There is no point of water seepage. nobody did touch the phone during the night. I am going to consumer court against Samsung and will never buy any Samsung product. GSM Arena, Please publish my post so that others can also know about this incidence.

Lovely executive looking phone feel like a bussinessman when i'm holding it, Signal is bad at times thats maybe because the walls are quite thick in my house, This phone really isn't ideal for the serious texter though as you can't seem to turn the dictionary or word predictor off and this is rather a nuisance as you got to keep setting it to abc everytime you want to send a text the buttons are quite still to press as well, The phone should come with the samsung pc studio disc which is great and easy to use you can delete texts add and erase contacts ,add music and arange files easyenough, the U800 has an excellant camera nice clear pictures with numerous settings also with a flash, If you want a nice stylish slimline mobilephone this is the one for you.

Great phone as I only use it for sms, but some major disadvantages which leave you thinking that Samsung is dishonest. For example, total sms storage: 500. BUT, the inbox can only store a max of about ~200, and the same for the sent items. Why is Samsung using dedicated space for sms? They should use better programmers and software to store messages in its 1gig memory! For example, my Nokia 3110 only has a few megs of internal memory, but curerntly has 2850 text messages stored! Amazing! Also, after a few days, something happens where by it refuses to send messages. So you have to restart the phone at least once a week, or something. The battery bar is horribly deceiving and not accurate. To read a simple text file is amazingly horrible! It starts some rubbish "Access powered" software which can't read more than 3 pages - otherwise "Out of memory". And you can't compose text files like on a Nokia. You can't edit any files, it's read-only and you have to keep zooming-in to read even a tiny bit of text. Unbelievable. On the bright side though, the screen and supported colours is absolutely beautiful, as is the camera. Excellent quality photo's if you change resolution down to 1024. I look-after my phone like it's a baby, never dropped it and only store it in a cushioned pocket, so alhamdulillah (praise is Only due to God), no scratches as of yet. -- I testify there is no God except the 1 true God, and Mohammed is the last warner / prophet to mankind, as was Jesus, Moses, Mary, Adam & Eve, etc, before him. Saying that God has a son is unimaginably worse than me swearing against your mother. Every soul shall taste death. The life of this world is only a deceiving enjoyment for a fixed time. And in the end we will all return to God and paid according to our best and worst deeds.

Dear ellimac2129, in my humble opinion, you may wish to check out the specs and reviews for the following phones at both GSMArena and Mobile-Review. SGH i7110, SGH B2700, SE K770, SE C902. But even before so, please make a list of your desired features. Then set priority. Because packing all our desired features in a single handset would generate a "SuperPhone" atypically contradicting business strategy -- which is noway acceptable to any manufacturer. You know how it works, yes? :)

I AM THINKING on getting a phone for a 24 month contract, so please I want users that can be trusted my choices are NOKIA N77, NOKIA 6600 SLIDE, SAMSUNG U800 and SONY ERICSSON G700 I had the samsung U700 and it cost me a lot to have it repaired..it was a slide phone so I,m a bit concerned about getting a slider again..my ribbon flex broke after the manufactures warranty so it pretty lame.. I'm not getting positive feedback for the NOKIA N77 but I like the TV! SAMSUNG U800 is nice however im afraid to get another SAMSUNG FONE AGAIN!! BUT I was thinking this is OK since its an open faced phone..so no prob with the ribbon of flex there with the SONY ERICSSON I was thrilled it has touch screen and the fact that it has image stabilizer..but most of the opinions are saying its not that good..like it hangs... I just wanted a phone that has a pretty good camera (w/ flash, night mode etc.,)..uses a micro SD ( san disk transflash ), secondary camera for video calling, nice speakers like the samsung one (bang and olufsen technology) and a bit sturdy..I cant help it, there are times that I unintentionally drop my phone..but not too hard..I dont like too sensitive phones..size is not a problem for me..I was thinking on getting the nokia N95 however its to expensive for me..so I'll settle for this candidates.. anyone?genuises?techies?help?

I'm from South Africa and maybe that has something to do with it? Maybe a software upgrade might help, think I'll try that. Have to agree with you that this is one good looking phone.

Very comfortable to hold in hand. 3. Also taller than the cheap-soap-case looking NOKs and burn-hole-in-pocket overpriced SEs. Hence comfortable by all means -- psychologically, too. 4. I use mechanical and digital SLRs for still photos. So unfair it would be for me to comment on its built-in camera. But there are more than enough options to toy around for you -- provided that you first successfully "discover" the keys for the camera menus and settings. [Albeit, I'll be here to help.] 5. The screen is outstanding. By God. Setting wallpapers is a TRUE pleasure. 6. The L700 in Indian market comes with the Taj Mahal as a living world theme. U800E doesn't have this theme. It's a plus, actually. I sincerely and strongly oppose setting a tomb picture -- no matter how pretty -- as anybody's phone or PC wallpaper. - - - NO. You shouldn't buy it. Why? - - - 1. The battery indicator is rigged. Never shows actual battery status. In my case, the 1st bar goes out in 2 days. The last 2 bars go out in less than a day. 2. The battery is horrifying and terrible. Plain phone calls [each less than 5 minutes] and nothing else -- a full charge lasts less than 2 days. With a 2GB card inserted, battery never lasts more than 24 hrs. No matter what you do -- or not do anything at all. 3. The speaker is the worst one in volume. Even high frequency violin, bagpipe MP3s are not audible enough to be set as ringtones. 4. SMS alert tones can NOT be customized. NOWAY !!! 5. The handsets are all invariably made in UAE. The 7h and 8th digits of IMEI -- 02. 6. Tri-band, GPRS. No 3G. No front camera. 7. Samsung India customer support will give you lots of attitude if you ever call them seeking support. They won't call you names -- that's a given, I hope. Better consult your fortune-telling witch before calling Samsung India's tele-support personnel. - - - SAMSUNG SGH U800E is the handset the above points were all about. That is the variant available in the Indian market.

Not a fair comaprisson. The Nokia's you mention are devices that are made from higher class materials (thicker stronger metals) and are way more expensive. So one would expect a classy button in stead of that plastic, red-thing. i got this phone, got it brandnew on o2 from littlewoods for less than �50, i had a �50 off promotion, on a whole, its a neat phone does all the basics pretty good, i also have an n95 but wanted a nice casual phone for taking out. itsmuch better than the nokia 6500 classic which was a toss up between that, thesamsung u800 does far more and also has video calling, mp4, sd memory card slot and hspda and a lot more dont let people put you off, have a dabble in a phone shop before you buy

Ok.. that umm "honest" review of the phone just had my mouth hanging open. With the exception of the colourful screen and sleek design eveything else is a total contradiction to my experience. Iv always owned samsung phones and this ranks very well in their Soul line up ( i also have a U900 ) and fits in neatly. The music/speaker is clear and loud enough for me. Battery lasts 2 or 3 days. and the 1 bar takes a good 7 or 8 hours to disappear. Iv taken sum excellent photos with the cam. Bottom line is we gotta remeber that we r not buying a digicam or mps player... its a phone! And the scratch complaint - if you take care of your phone then it wont get damaged. I reali like this phone.

I will speak on battery power and the speakerphone in a bit. Indeed a very smart, polished and elegant looking phone. Thin and compact to boot. The brushed metal is prone to scratching very easily. You know, those faint but evident scratches that eventually end up dulling the exterior. its my personal pet peeve. The battery life is terrible. Even on standby, it falls short. I have to make sure to charge it daily. When the battery indicator level falls to 2 bars, it quickly drops off from there. Its a bit alarming actually. The speakerphone is barely adequate...surprising for a phone this expensive. Some annoying features. The buttons on the phone don't press down enough when under pressure, especially the 4-way navigator, and so its easy to overshoot a character. The # 3 button is far too close to the 'off' or cancel button. So many of my sms text compositions are interrupted by an errant finger a few millimeters off. Thankfully, the phone prompts to ask if you want to save the sms in the drafts folder before exiting. The music player is primitive with a very very tiny interface. The speaker for the media player makes the media sound 'tinny' and garbled and the volume is inadequate. The built in camera is among the worst I've tried. It does not have autofocus and when using the LED flash, there is considerable (I mean a LOT) of lag between the time your finger snaps the button and before the shutter actually clicks. Low light or club shots hardly ever turn out because subjects will definitely move in the ridiculously long 4-5 second delay...The saving grace is the slim design and the bright colourful screen and the 'cool' factor. I've had mine a month and I'm ready to pawn it off already. Thanks for the read :)

Some of the features are missing in Indian version. Also, they have mentioned some 5-6 colors but in india only Soul Gray color is available..Overall, the phone is really good.. slim, user friendly.. "Inferiority Complex" nicely blended with "Attention Deficit Disorder" gives birth to the flesh-and-money flashing must-look-at-me attitude. Priced at INR 9,500/_ this phone serves them for whom a cell phone is meant to be shown off rather than used as a communication device. It did have the potential to be a spectacular telecomm piece. But some weirdo at the Samsung management literally ruined the Indian version -- the U800E. Cost-cutting at the expense of the Indian buyers is definitely not a wise thing to do. Plus, different geography got different mismatches with the published specs. That too is NOWAY fair. As it so happens to be that it seems like Samsung is rushing towards expanding its portfolio while neglecting the very buyers with mismatched specs and horrible pre and post sales support. What I don't understand is how can Samsung even dare bank on neglecting the buyers? After all, there are many alternatives already available in the market! Seems like Samsung is making a deal with the friendly neighborhood car-wash centre years before buying a car. Funny? Fact, actually. It's a real shame that I bought this phone after knowing the specs at GSMArena. But that definitely is NOT GSMArena's fault. And Samsung India's website itself was throwing the INCORRECT specs at my face. And that IS Samsung India's fault. Co-incidence or deliberate -- must not be tolerated.

This SOLUTION applies to ANY smart and/or semi-smart phone from ANY manufacturer. I'm using Windows XP SP-2 PC. Perhaps neither rich nor trendy enough to use MAC. Preparation : Disconnect PC from LAN and all modems and routers -- IMPORTANT. Make sure the antivirus and antispyware programs are absolutely uptodate and capable of running on-access scans. Disable your firewall and raw socket blocking protocols and applications. Check for auto start-ups. Then fresh install [or repair] Microsoft Outlook [or Mozilla Thunderbird]. Install the drivers and client management softwares of both the phones. Reboot. Execution : Transfer all the contacts from phone-ONE to the PC by sync and/or Outlook. Make multiple back ups. And then transfer all contacts from PC to phone-TWO. Use strictly wired transfer, i.e, no infra red and definitely no bluetooth. P.S : Not only the easiest but also the safest process this one is. And don't forget to post a "job nicely done" response after successful accomplishment of this circus.

I bought this phone a few days ago and most functions have worked well except for the problem with transfering my contacts to the phone from my IPAC HP PDA. I am doing the transfer using Bluetooth. The names of the contacts and notes about them are transferred with no prblem but the phone numbers don't. Does anyone know how I may go around my problem? hi all,, thought i wud share some of my experiance with the u800. battery life - getting almost 2.5 days wit an hr to 45-60 mins of calling with 1/2 hr of music. Camera is faboulous and after xferring the pics to the pc there were no blurred images. sound with ear plug type headphones is compareable to SE w200. browser seems to be a tad slower. themes creator is a new feature ive never seen in any other fone,memory if just gr8 with 1 gb onboard along with kingston 2 gb,, 3 gigs of memory, video playback and recording is cool enough for any teenager, looks awesome, 16 m colours looks really bright, key pad not for blackberry addicts but sturdy, games are a drawback - all trial versions, honest rating - 8.9/10. hope this helps buyers. recommended for- corporate, 25-40, wanting a multimedia phone for less, but good workmanship.

To : People having NO pre-installed games. The U800 comes with 8 to 10 JAVA games. Canon Ball and some really stupid Paris Hilton demo version games, i.e, games as questionable as Paris Hilton's character [some criminal records]. If you are wondering why no games came as pre-installed add-ons in your phone, allow me to point at some "shocking points". 1. You bought the phone from a dishonest shop in a seal-broken package, i.e, the seal on the package was already broken before you paid for the phone and took it home. 2. The dishonest shop-keeper or somebody she/he knows has already used your phone. And then in order to wipe off usage traces, the shop-keeper has performed "E2P Full Reset" that resets customizations, JAVA, media, T9 word suggestions, MMS Profiles, WAP settings and homepages. 3. When you point 1 finger at somebody, 3 fingers are already pointed at you then. The seal says, "DO NOT ACCEPT IF SEAL IS BROKEN. CAUTION: SEALED PACKAGE." And you took that warning for granted. What's the point in whining now??!! Think. E2P = EEPROM = Electrically Erasable Programmable Read-Only Memory

To : Urs The U800 does NOT use the SIM memory for message exchange and/or storage in the bulk/default mode. For storing a message in the SIM you must copy or move it individually and manually. Solution to your problem. STEP 1 Put the Micro-SD card in the slot. Format it using the phone. This way the card would be ready with the necessary folders. STEP 2 Menu > Settings > Memory Settings > Default Memory > Message Downloads > [select] Memory Card Best Regards.

Gr8 phone, i only have 1 problem... maybe someone can help?? My sms's are stored on the SIM CARD memory, it is not using the phone's memory for text messages (receiving). How do i change it so that messages received will go to the phone's memory and not the sim card. Most of my messages i receive are cut off / incomplete due to space on the sim not being enough. it's a solid phone with the features, themes, and wonderful screen. however, both my officemate's and my unit's cursor has fallen off with less than a month of use. the build quality of samsung has been questionable. It sucks big time when this happened. and the camera doesn't produce nice pictures when taken at night.

Generally pretty nice and well manufactured phone, great materials quality, but: 1. PC Synchronisation doesn't work. Samsung�s customer care can not help in resolving the problem....so if you want to synchronise your phone with Outlook - go for Nokia. 2. no-preloaded games, 3. ridiculous keypad lock...it is being locked in every place of menu when it is on auto, so when you are browsing menu and you hesitate for few second, the key pad is being locked. When the keypad is locked and you receive call, the keypad becomes active so you can access phone functions, but after the call phone stays in the idle even though before the call it was locked. 4. Why when you connect phone with PC via USB you have to turn off Bluetooth? Generally.....great looking & stylish.....advanced functions even though some are not working....but next time I would go for Nokia again due to its functionality.

The phone is so thin that I cn hardly hang-on holding it. But it's cool... I'm sure that I can adapt it soon... I'm a Nokia & Motorola user. I tried samsung just now, I bought U800 and I'm loving it. But I dont know how to use the 3G cam, can I take a pic using that? The only thing that I chose Samsung is that Nokia abruptly change styles and lower their price immidiatly while Motorola is so cheap that everybody has it on their own hands,Sony Eric. maybe has a low quality, yet Samsung has an elegant design, expensive look ( yet dont put hole in my pocket), exquisite features and more... For now I can say that Samsung is no. 1 next Sony Er., Motorola, and Nokia.

well, I've red most of opinions about this phone so I'll try to say my opinion as short as I can I will start with the design & the cover, this phone has metallic cover which gives it high quality & nice feeling that the phone will be save if you drop it from your hand( NOKIA make metallic phones recently with E-series but this phone is better), the size, shape , buttons & weight is magnificent , its gives a unique looks for the phone on table or hand. the menu is not that complicated, it's almost similar to SONYERICSSON menu, anybody can be used to it, the music player is wonderful & the OS (Operating System) is nice & strong, the HSDPA is great. I used to have NOKIA & SONYERICSSON , its true that NOKIA batteries live longer but that dosen't make it better,if some NOKIA have better features, some SAMSUNG have more better features (check INNOV8 & OMNIYA ) the problem in NOKIA is the weak Symbian OS, SAMSUNG & SONYERICSSON have better OS. SONYERICSSON problem is the weak design & phone cover quality (most of phones made in China),cheap manufactured with expensive price. In conclusion, this phone has a lot of features, great software,hot design in suitable price.

to all samsung lovers out there and also to those who are not..every brands of phones have different features..i've been using nokia phones for such a long time, even other brands like sony, motorola, and samsung..nokia phones have very long battery life unlike the other brands..and nokia, sony, motorola phones are very easy to use, i admit that, even a 1 yr old child can operate it..lol juz joking..first time that i use a samsung phone, i admit it's very complicated..you have to read first the manual to fully operate the phone..unlike on nokia phones and others..you can find the descriptions right there on your phone..but on samsung you're on your own..that's why i like it..many features are hidden and it's up to you to find out..and i find it exciting..the battery life of samsung phones are so annoying..yeah! especially if your last phone was a nokia..gosh..so much adjustment..people out there who finds it hard to fit in with the battery life of samsung..i advised ya to buy an extra battery lol..you see after i used samsung phones..whenever i get the feelin of buying a new phone..samsung will be the only brand for me..fits my style and fits my life..because there designs were so unique..never stops fascinating you..but you see all phones have flaws, juz admit it..samsung phones rock!

I have a Samsung U800, the display at first was appauling in direct sunlight, though I later found out I could adjust the LCD brightness. On 100%, it tends to last about 48 hours, however I'm always on MSN so this reduces it to about 24. Also, it depends what theme you use. A theme with a black background tends to shade the entire screen, yet the default theme (white/orange) is fantastic in sunlight. I hope this helps.

the battery life is about 2-3 days with average use little calls here and there, messaging ect. with little use about 9 days. but for the heavy users about 1-2 days.

buttons are crap! you have to use your nail to press realy hard, after a while texting becomes quite painful. This phone is very poor compared to any nokia or motorala. The instructions are a joke they tell you very little about all the phones features, I emailed samsung to see if there was a more comprehensive instruction info available but they said no but did give me a premium rate nuber I could call to get any info I need! LOL yeh right! Dont buy it!

Nice looking phone. Shame about futures also ring tones are very low, you can barely hear the phone ringing.Lcd goes off so no way to notice if you got sms or a missed call, you have to press a button to turn screen on. You can change the sound of buttons but not to the specific tones that each number has all make the same. Flash is powerful but can not be used as light. Key lock is either off or auto and turns on in just few seconds no way to choose or adjust the time for example after 2 minutes. Complex menu many futures are hidden where you will need hours to find them. Wallpapers and ringtones are very view and not good at all. On the plus points there is a reject list for phone numbers. And yes you can change message ringtone here is how.Go to settings then profiles then press options and choose edit. The screen shows "Normal" or what ever is the chosen profile under that the highlighted box "call alert type" if you press the right button it will change to message alert type from here you can change messages tone.

just received my u800 as upgrade from MotoK1. Am slightly disapointed with the lack of stuff pre loaded on the phone! My K1 came with tons of wallpapers ringtones etc to help you get started before learing how to upload your own. Also the user interface is not nearly as user friendy as Nokia or motorola. The instruction manual is not very extensive surprisingly when I read about all the phones functions! In fact a lot of very important stuff isnt even there such as how to copy contacts etc from your old SIM or phone! Whats that all about? Ill try it for a couple of days but I can see me returning it within the 7 days for something a lot easier to use! So far Im not a fan of samsung phones!

Nokia 6500 classic is a good choice, it is a Nokia-quality phone. But the battery's life with bluetooth is only 6-8 hours. I'm using the phone simple business time. I had a N50 before, but this phone very slow and with very-very small character on display. I think, nothing perfect... :) Has anyone information about U800 battery's life?

The U800 is cheaper than the 6500c. I bought the U800 from Phones4u for �120. The 6500c is �139. So where did the extra �50 come from huh? Check all the price listings before you comment on this phone. I think it is an amazing phone. My phone didnt come with any faults? Samsung have really improved on their Mobile phones. Its worth buying.

Why would anyone go for this rather than the Nokia 6500 classic?? The classic is cheaper, has a Nokia firmware (easier to use than Samsung's firmware)! Just because the camera is slightly better. I've had a 6500c and have found no faults so why spend that extra �50 for a copy?

Yes you can insert your own tones, it took me 3 visits to different shops to get the correct information...most sales people think you can't...but you CAN..I've done it!

hi Peoples, the keypad of this phone, i'm guessing, is pretty good; great if ur a hardcore texter like me. i've used the U900 soul and i'm pretty sure that it'd be basically the same to use, considering the dimensions. nice big pads and not hard to press in. plus it's i think it's a metal body, which means heavier, but sleeker in style and more resistant to damage. :)

This phone came out a few days ago in the Netherlands, and I had the chance to play with it for a while. Up front, I have to admit that I'm no big Samsung fan, and the Soul b just once again confirmed my feeling. The Soul b looks a lot shinier in real life than in the photo's, which gives it a very cheap look. It feels very sturdy though. The camera is dramatic: if you want to take a picture that's barely passable you have to bring your own spotlights. The keyboard is, much like the U900's in my opinion, simply horrible. It takes too much pressure to type, and it feels odd. Furthermore, Samsung will always be Samsung, so expect the same UI you've been seeing for 3 years. All in all, this phone lacks, well, pretty much anything new. The only thing I could enjoy is HSDPA, but with a crappy browser and a 2- inch screen that's not visible in any kind of sunlight, it's completely pointless. Michel

there are two models of competitors. 6500 and w890.. i think samsung have no chance against the great two manifacturer (S.E. & Nokia) and if you delete the samsung brand and then paste the sony ericsson brand, add "c" & shortcut buttons, nobody cant see the difference. its a cheap copycat of w890 & 6500.

Personally, i find the touch interface a little insensitive at times. No doubt a good camera. However its flash is not powerful enough when facing strong sunlight or in dim light conditions at night. One factor they should improve on would be the volume of the loudspeaker. It is too soft to be heard on a busy street or bus. Sound quality through the earphones are excellent. Sound quality through the loudspeakers lack bass. keypad is great for messaging. large screen makes viewing of photos a pleasure. conclusion: great for photos but not a good option for people whom like to blast music through the loudspeakers and not suitable for people whom often visit crowded and noisy areas.

One thing I really respect about Samsung is the materials they use in their phones, is very often really high quality like U900 Soul and this. Other manufacturers especially Nokia and SE don't do that and tend to do really cheap plastic phones. But QCIF 15fps recording? Why?? The only times I would expect QCIF these days is in really cheap phones. QCIF was outdated in 2005! Let's see CIF recording like other Samsungs can do. Other specs look good.

very nice basic phone. i think the specifications of this phone will become standard. samsung makes stable phones (OS-wise) and the build is good, unlike other brands. i just hope it has a friendly price as well.

why to be so happy with this phone, looks as a very standard feature phone with except the design nothing special in it. Do not misunderstand me, do not go against Samsung, but technically and design wise have a look on SE w910 and for sure check Nokia E51 if you like candy bar mobiles

Samsung is a name in past for making Cell Phone. As It look clear that they are follower but they do not know how fast to follow. they keep missing to keep up with updated features. Maybe Samsung need some marketing guys to tell them what is going on in Cell phone market? Wake up and smeel the roses. Where is also your Wi-Fi? and many other features? The phone is Obsolete.

QCIF video at 15 fps ? Hahahahahaha !!!! My samsung from 4 years can do CIF at 18fps. Wake up Samsung , new models should be better, not worse.

A beautifully crafted handset,surely can get 10 on 10 as far as d design is cocerned,but not up 2 d mark in specification if compared to nokia,but still samsung has immensly improved wid dere spec section in comparison wid other giants(excluding Nokia).Common Samsung!!Keep it up....!!..Goin gud mate:-)..
