Great 3G phone.... very stylish and truly awesome.... I use this phone as a 3G modem as well and gives me excellent speeds... but the default phone browser sucks and the other draw back about this phone is its weak battery. battery life is too short and dies pretty quickly after a few video calls... And ofcourse you must be really careful not to drop it lol. if you did once or twice you might be in trouble seriously. And NO radio in this 3G mobile! shame on you samsung. but overall this is a good 3G phone and its affordable as well. camera quality is fairly good too.. gives sharp nice shots. And thd VGA cam of this phone which is used for video calling is excellent and much better than any other 3G phone available.

yes you can use this phone as a modem and can connect via usb. you need the cable and the software included with the phone to be able to do this.

I have a 2 gig sd micro and yes it works - I got this phone 2yrs ago and its awesome. Saves me dragging my ipod and digital cam with me. The pics off it are pretty good if um clean the lenses regularly.

TO ROYA for key tone. You have to go to "Settings" click a "Profiles" click the one you are useing with the "options" Pick "Edit" go to bottom and there is a line "Key tone volume". Select "No sound". Enjoy.

screen is 176x220 if im not mistaken. I was using it for 2 years. Changed to nokia N81. Z500 is easy to use and small. But batt drains fast, cannot install applications through pc - need WAP(costs money), lousy connection with pc(cannot transfer sms), horrible PC application for connectivity. Other that that, very low volume when playing MP3 as ringtone.

I've had my phone for a while with no problems but lately in two separate occasions when I've received a message the phone has kept freezing. The only way i can fix this problem was to insert another sim in and delete he message quickly before it freezes. Now it has done it again and nothing i do is working, theres no new messages and it just keeps freezing when i turn it on. I've tried connecting it to the charger and the computer to see if it works. I need some help i have a lot of photos on here i want to save. Someone suggested getting a new battery, should i? I have this phone for 2 years, the design is the best.I'v read other posts. The phone battery lasts 4 days, sound ok(I use the vibration in the moast cases), it can be a good mp3 player or a video player(with a microSD, form more space), makes good photos( for 1Mpx Cammera ).It hadles very good 2 or 3 calls at the same time. The agenda has lot's of options, the only problem is slow loading the agenda after a restart. One problem is that java apps can only be donloaded from the net. Bluetooth is managed very good, it offers information about transfer and has a good scurity. The calendar option is ok for a bussinees people. Tricks for best use: -for mp3,acc,mp4,3pg use a microSD, is faster to load from a card reader -change the phone passord, in some cases the phone restars and can clean all the agenda records -form more battery time, the phone can be charged by usb, if the 3G is not used it si better to select manualy the GSM frequancy -allways clean the bluetooth contacts

Hi, I have the Samsung Z500, for 22 months now, can't wait to upgrade to a new phone. Although it is a lovely small phone, the sound is very soft, the battery need to be charged every day. When I try to upload my sms and mms to my pc I could not do that. After contacting our Samsung Office, they told me this phone has a problem with the sound, the battery and could not upload messages to the pc! Great! Wish someone from Samsung could phone me and give me a new phone for free with sound, good battery life and one that could upload messages to my pc. Other wise I could not complain!!

The Samsung Z500 uses a small memory stick called: microSD (TransFlash) You can use a card reader on any PC and drag and drop any music file you like and listen to them on the phone later make sure they are .mp3 format though. Also the volume on my Z500 is so loud its amazing, Ive heard alot of issues with the speakers but mine is VERY loud, and therefore Im pretty much happy with my Samsung Z500

had this phone for 18 months overall very disapointed with it cant wait for upgrade the screen too small ,so internet connection a waste of time , mp3 player ok but not loud enough and loudspeaker a whisper , inner screen taken up with top and bottom info bars which limit its size and what can be seen. On my third model in only 18 months as phone keeps swithching to emergency only network or just dies. So not been able to use all features just ads to disapointment..upgradeing to sony or nokia soon , this is the first and last samsung i will own period

Im a huge fan of Samsung, especially my first E700 which was amazing. When the Z500 came out I bought it and its just great, has excellent sound, battery, camera. I havn't really had any issues as some people have had, so i guess Im the lucky one! I hope Samsung continue making the 'E700' flip design style, you just cannot beat it.

I have had this phone for one year and like it very much. The camera is great and produces lovely pics through a bluetooth connection onto my comp. The Mp3 is ok, as it only holds about 7 songs but volume is great. The only downside is the battery must be recharged every night or it dies on me in the day. Apart from that, it is a very sturdy and robust little thing and has survived being dropped into water (my dogs water bowl. No signs of wear and tear even after a year of thrashing.

I've had one of these for about a year. Initially I thought the battery life was poor - had to charge it every day. Then I discovered that it was hunting for 3G all the time and we don't have 3G coverage where I live. So I switched it to a lower spec service and the battery life has improved dramatically - only need to charge it once or twice a week. Nice phone - like it!

But there are no options available under Key Management except there is display of key sign (as though the option is locked) I have reset my phone to factory settings, but still there are no options available under Key Management. I find it a very good phone except for one thing. when I get a call, the ring tone is very low and I had to keep it on vibrate so I can hear it. very nice mp3 and good camera. good looking phone and good battary. the only problem is the ring tone. I am not sure if it is the phone itself went bad or the main made is like that.

Marcin - 1&2 - yes. 3 i dont know I've had this phone for half a year ( got it 2nd hand ) and i must say its a pretty bad phone. After 1 year the ting in the middle stopped working and the loudspeaker went dead, a new original one was like 50% The alarm function sucked, you could barely hear it in the morrow as it was closed and the mid files werent played so loud.. annoying menus too, no themes whatsoever, just 1 design / firmware however, the camera is very very very good! same goes for mp3,great playback and quality, the phone never ever lags, it's pretty good looking alas, its main and most dissapointing backdraw is it's ABSOLUTELY CRAP battery, once a day it must be charged regardless, even with turning off the 3G function completely i could get at most 1,5 days..even when i didnt use it. so, steer well clear, it's a rare model, i went thru hell to find parts or anything for it, plus its a tad expensive when considering the competition is better and cheaper

I would have to say that the two most annoying features of this phone would have to be the poor battery life and the frustrating blank pictures this phone takes whilist in a pocket. That is one major flaw in the design, that stupid camera button on the side, even worse, the software is crap to allow constant blank photos. However, I have come up with a solution that solved the problem once and for all: (Not for the faint hearted) 1) Remove battery. 2) Remove four phillips screws in the back. 3) Gently unclip the back plate from the main body of the phone. 4) Remove the side camera button completely - it's just a tacky silver-painted bit of plastic) 5) Clip back together, replace screws. 6) Find a small piece of rubber that fits the hole left by the button nicely. The result? A completely useless, annoying button removed from the phone, and no more black photos of my pocket! Worked a charm. Good phone other than that though, the default ringtones suck arse though.

Do NOT buy this phone! I bought it in December '05, and the battery life is terrible...so bad Samsung discontinued the Z500 due to complaints on this matter. The battery would be on charge all night and beep 'low battery' early afternoon the next day. I had 2 and they were both as bad as each other. Big mistake buying it.

The Z500 had a short life on the shelves mainly because its 'pony'. It has a short battery life not a great deal of memory for a smartphone (without a transflash)..you also cant use downloads i.e realtones as a message alert tone..a common feature on most samsung models. Sorry but the Z500 is not a good handset to come out of samsung..im trading mine RIGHT IN.

Just got this phone secondhand and impressed with it. Like the cool blue clock showing all the time on the front but it would be nice if date showed permanently as well. shame that when you have missed a call or got text message that the outer LCD don't flash on and of periodically to show indication that someone called without you having to open up the phone. That little mod would be cool and it wouldn't wear down the battery that much more. Anyone know what the maximum frequency is for mmf? I have the Yamaha program and wanted to go MA-7 at 48k but the phone wont accept it so I had to go with the lower quality sound of MA-5 at 21k sampling. Reason I ask is that I had a sms talking tone mp3 and had to convert it to wave and then to MA-5 mmf so I can use it as a talking tone in mmf format for when I have a text message come in. Shame you just cant use mp3 for SMS tone. De-Branded mine. To Pebbles: TransFlash MicroSD is the name of the freakin card you put in the Z500. Fits perfectly into mine. Do u want me to take a picture of it and send it to you...Why dont you do bit more research b4 saying anything. To TM the highest resolution the z500 can video at is 176x144, for a 1 megapixel camera, this is awesome video recording and great camera, hope this helps

hi micheal, your problem with the bluetooth can be fixed by delting other bluetooth devices you have already connected to. just try by deleting a couple then you should be able to then connect to other handsets. hope this helps

Samsung have done well with this one, especially for old E700/E710/E720 users. I have found for extended battery life, change network moe from automatic to 900/1800. The phone spends less time polling for 3G connection. Also, only activate bluetooth when needed, this also chews battery life. Does anyone know of a site for additional themes, the Vodaphone live themes are limited

The clock seems to stop working when it feels like it then restart again! The alarm only wants to be set when it feels like it. Frequently I will try and set the alarm and it will state Retry! Frustrating! & when you are able to set the alarm, the phone has to be switched on it order for the alarm to come on. The battery life is very poor - charging every day.

I got the Z500 last week, I have now sent it back because I did not think it was as good as the E720. Although it had added features. I found the reception was worse I have more bars on E720 and also the E720 looked better, I think that Z500 looked a bit too plastic for me. I sent it back beacuse I was having to pay �25 for the upgrade, I think I will look around for some thing else. I still would like a flip phone and have had a samsung for the last 3 years,

To Lulu: unfortunately you cannot have a normal mp3 or what not as a message tone, sux hey. To moby: to activate vibrate: Goto: menu, settings, profiles, (on whatever profile you are on), select options (top left), edit, the first option, select it, then select vibration and melody. To Mobz: Micro SD DOES NOT FIT INTO A Z500 ya tool, it takes a transflash card. Connection to the computer is instant, your computer must be shit, To Kas: the battery life is pop, oh and yes it is sooooo much effort to plug it in to charge...

I've had this phone for quite a while, and I must say I quite like it. It's my first phone, but having used many others (helping friends set them up etc.), I really enjoy this one the most. Design is really nice. I think the Samsung E700/E720/Z500 clamshell look is the best one out there. It's small and lightweight, so it doesn't annoy you being in your pocket all day. Buttons are easy to use, making phone navigation a joy. The outside screen is very useful - can be set to display the date and a message when you close the phone, and also allows for self portrait photography using the front camera. The menu system is well laid out, and the ability to use the number pad to jump to options makes navigation a breeze once you learn your way around. A nice touch is that the four way directional button can be assigned to jump you straight from the home screen to a specific task (ie: push right to write a TXT). Camera isn't great. It's a megapixel but most of the photos I have taken seem to be somewhat grainy. A flash like the E720 has would be a nice touch and it's a shame they didn't put one on. Realistically, it's good for random snaps but I wouldn't rely on it for serious photography. Calling is very good. Audio quality is nice, and the speakerphone is a nice touch. Unfortunately, the speakerphone is on the inside and requires the phone to be open while you are in a call. The address book allows for multiple fields per contact (when stored in phone, not SIM) and the PC software synchronises with Outlook too which is handy. Speed dial can be assigned to the number keys. MP3 ringtones are supported, and the phone can play music through the speaker. I'd advise anyone planning to use an MP3 ringtone to increase the volume using audio software before putting it on the phone as they don't ring very loud. Battery isn't great, as has already been noted. I find I can get somewhere between 48-72 hours, which naturally isn't a lot. However, I recharge it whenever I'm home so it's not a huge problem. Annoying nonetheless. Apparently setting to manual network mode (GSM900/1800, GSM1900, UMTS) and network selection (your service provider) will increase the battery life. I think this only works if you use a 2G SIM in it as it shuts down the 3G functions. I don't have 3G so I keep it set to 900/1800. All in all I think it's a very good phone, with the exception of the battery. Anyone considering purchasing one (although it is rather old now) wouldn't be making a bad choice. I personally recommend it as it combines features with small size and sleek design. Hope this was useful. :)

Besides the battery life, which i cant explain, the phone is alright. It takes the 1 gig micro sd card with no probs. The connection establishment to the computer takes some time though as in u have to to wait bout 30 secs or so. The access to memory card is limited on the phone itself but does the job never the less. Depends on what u look for in a phone i guess cause battery life is terrible..

Samsung have completley lost me as a customer, they say this phone lasts 270 hours on stand-by, but it barely lasts 48 hours!!! Colin, if you keep having troubles with ur battery life send it away 3 times for repair. After 3 repairs telstra will end ur contract and you give them the dodgy phone back and can get a different one. My partner had the same problem and this is what he did. Hope it works for you!

After playing around withit for around two Weeks, WHAT A BIG DISAPPOINTMENT The phone has really slow data transfer to PC, Poor PC tophone software that won�t even let you send SMS from your PC or let you get in to your Messaging area of the phone, SUMSUNGhas a long way to go to catch up with NOKIA software which recognizes all NOKIA phones. Poor battery life, the first SGH-Z500battery would only last around 24 hrs if I was lucky. The replacement gives me around 48 hrs if I am lucky and this is only if I don�t usethe phone at all. You have to be closer to the phone tower than other phones to pick up useable signal. For a new 3G phone with somuch hype over it�s features as the 3G phones has the SUMSUNG SGH-Z500 is a very disappointing mobile phone, I made a BIG MISTAKE by going from NOKIA to SUMSUNG and unless some thing is done I would not recommend it to others.What SUMSUNG needs to do as a matter of urgency is to release a battery of a higher quality in order to make the phone equally as efficient as other mobile phones.Further, Samsung software in comparison to Nokia software leaves much to be desired. It is not equal to the tasks required while Nokia software will work on all Nokia phones. When I upgraded my contract I was informed by Telstra that, due to this being new 3G technology that it would be a high performer in terms of what I needed. This is simply not the case.As I am a firefighter and need to remain contactable and am locked into a contract for two years with Telstra I am extremely disappointed with an unreliable phone.

AAC is the file format used by itunes. It is a higher quality than mp3 but also in most cases a higher size. baisicaly it gives you that extra flexibility if that song you want is not in mp3 format and you are unable to convert it. its not really a noticable difference

BLANK PICS: Lock the pictures that you need (you don't need a password), ans thend just use the "delete all" option if the phone takes blank photos. Only the unlocked ones will be deleted. Has anyone resolved the theme problem?

low life battarey i was gonna get this phone but got sony ericsson k750i instead as i wanted a gud camera phone. i hav heard many complaints about the battaerey of this z500 so here are sum tips. 1. change gprs to gsm. 2. turn 3g to 2g. 3.turn screen light and bigtness off. leave bluetooth and infrared off. hope this helps.

apart from the battery, i was more than happy with this phone but the battery life lets it down. i returned it in less than a month as i thought there was a fault with it alas the same thing happened again. on one occasion i had to charge the battery 3 times in 24 hrs and i am not an heavy user and if you leave the bluetooth on then it just drains it within hours!! i have now returned it and chose another model.

I've had my Z500 since July 05 and the battery now lasts 2ish days (just basic texting and keeping the headset in, but *not* using the media player), I use a 256MB memory card, and I don't recall allowing the initial charge. Obviously recharging it so many times over the months has killed its life. I have just ordered an unofficial 1000mAh battery for the last few months I have the phone for before I get my upgrade. Has anyone else bought one, and if so, is it actually better? I'm not sure how big the Samsung one is, but I've seen 500, 650 and 750mAh batteries too. Also, does anyone know how to switch off GPRS coz I never use it and it should help improve life

A great phone with all qualities i like e.g. video calling, mp3, bluetooth etc, however there are some downsides which a few ppl have had. The alarm for example, only goes off when it wants to (i've been late for work countless times) the battery life isn't great but i've no problem with charging every night, and you can't store recorded sounds as ringtones! apart from that, gd!

My battery lasts for about 3-4 days. I set it on 2G and BT is off (I turn it on when I need it). I also play mp3s a lot. I managed to stuff the phone up with about 30 songs (app. 2 MB each, on low VBR), but the sound is very good. Once I played it somewhat 6-7 hours on the speaker, max volume, and the batt didn't die out until the next day. Guss I'm a lucky bitch. :D I still didn't get any answer to this... Please, help someone! Q: Someone mentioned the www.samsungseriez.com site for dowloadins skins. So I did, but not one file has the *.thm extension. There's a readme.txt with no useful info, 4 *.bin and 2 *.cnt files. What do I have to do get the theme onto my cell?

If you are having battery problems and you do not need it's 3G feature then go to settings > network and choose GSM 900/1800 instead of UMTS,it will make it last longer.Once i got 5 days of battery,when i used the crap out of it,very many pictures and a lot of videos.Quite the paradox,i usually use it light and i get about 2 days of bat life

This one has battery problem and always drain very fast. Everyday I have to charge twice. The Internal camera is also not so good.The Media player cannot play the songs continuously. Once u use bluetooth, the battery drains so fast.

i`ve had this phone for a month now (and it was second hand when i brought it) i dont understand all the problems people are having... i only charge my phone every 3 to 4 days. i dont seem to take endless photos of my pocket as you need to press and hold the camera key down for quite a while before it takes a photo.All the features are great, although i must admit i dont use the 3g mode at all.The photo quality is great and the alarm is loud and reliable, although the calender function is a little confussing, what with scheldule, memo,reminder etc. All in all a excellent phone, glad i bought it, wouldnt be without it. can someone please tell me how i can AUTOMATICALLY save ALL text`s to the phone instead of sim.. must be having a blonde moment..soz, and thanks

Have had my Z500 for 7 months and was generally pleased with it inspite of some problems mentioned by other people. However, now it has completly frozen and I cannot access anything on the phone. I think its cr@p only 1MP camera with a tiny 2x zoom (no flash) too small for 3G & dual camera doesnt mean anything only video calling SO WHAT! & its so $$DEAR i dont get it, more expensive than some hi powered 2MP phones that are way better than that ugly thing dont waste your money on the Z500 for my advice!!!

I have a question: does anybody knows ho to enable java uploader on this phone? because by default the java uploader is disabled (an anti-piracy measure i think).I've entered this code*#123580#; a menu showed up... with 9 lines...press 1>debug screen, then 8>phone control, then 6>upload function, and there it is 1>enable upload funct, but it wont work: "Can't enable as Dbg Lvl low"... And i'm stuck. Need help!

Files (mp3, 3gp) bigger than 6mb, u can send them over bluetooth with a bt usb dongle, but be sure u have some memory free in your phone... then u can move these files to a minisd card, to free up the phone memory. Also in the future look for a version of Mobiledit that will support Samsung z500

I'm still looking for a way to put videos larger than 6mb on. It's really dumb because even on older phones like the D500 can do it. Maybe use an older/newer version of PC Studio?? If you're really desperate, get a friend with a D500 (for example) to put videos on their phone and then bluetooth it across? ;p Oh, and angela, I had the same problem a while ago. You can go Menu-Settings-Profiles-Normal-Edit-Message alert tone-Special tone to select a .mmf file in your File manager-Sounds-Ringtones directory. Well, any .mmf file really, regardless of where it is. To convert .wav files to .mmf (compatible with the Z500), I recommend using Yamaha's "WSC-MA2-Windows version UTF-8". You can get it from the following link:http://smaf-yamaha.com/tools/downloads.html­. To convert .mp3 files into .wav, I recommend using a program like Audacity (Freeware) or Nero Wave Editor. Angela - Go to Special Tone and press Options - Change. You can now browse your library for any mmf of midi tones. Ashley - you're music files should be mp3 format. Its also a lot easier sending it via bluetooth. CJ - The phone is really great - the volume is fine... MP3's are a bit softer than poly tones, but is on most phones... bl@nkich - Alarmclock volume is load so best is to get a melody that starts off soft...Just delete all the sim entries on your phone book... As far as I could tell, the only difference between the z500 & z500v software was that the z500v was really ugly (red with corny icons) and it had a built in instant messanger...but you can download a free one of the net anyway.

The battery life is really short bt gets better when switch to 2G sim card. bt the really big problem i hae is tat the phone constantly logs off the network, be it calling or sending sms, either it keep showing connecting or svc nt available, i have to switch off/on then it might work, rather disappointed

The only difference between the Z500 & Z500V is the software. Vodaphone put their own branded (really crappy) software on the phone and called it Z500V. All the functions are the same so don't panic! Cheers. :-)

Just bought the phone yesterday. And so far, no complaints. Just today, in the middle of a busy street, I called a friend and the first thing she said was "I hear you, no need to shout!" I was like ??? and said where I was. She paused and said she can't even hear the cars. :D I've been through the menus back and forth, everything works. Haven't tried linking to anything via anything yet, don't have the time now. Just one q: I may not have stumbled upon it, but I'm not sure even if it's possible... Many new phones bar you from uploading Java software via cable/Bluetooth - they want to cut down on piracy.So your phone can only reveive games etc. via internet. This is a lousy phone. Avoid it. VERY DISSAPOINTED with lack of some features that seem to be standard on other models and brands. Performs badly in all areas too. I wasted my money.

Not a good phone. I was initially pleased with the phone despite poor battery life and some of the other small issues as mentioned by many people. However, I could not find a way to access/download SMSs from my phone using the PC software. I have since spoken to Samsung Austrlia who have told me that the Z500 does not allow SMSs to be accessed/downloaded from your PC. This is ridiculous as every other phone I have had in the past 3 years of several brands allow this - including other Samsungs. I will be moving away from Samsung now. In my opinion, don't go for this phone - there are better 3G options available out there.

After many problems with my alarm I have now found after 2 weeks of successful experiments that if you keep your alarm on and set to every day and then change the time for whenever you need it it seems to be going off every day.

For the Alarm - Put an enty in your calander (as a scheduled apointment) and put it to repeat every day. Maybe that will work in stead of the alarm. My alarm works fine... is your clock set on 24hr? Maybe the phone gets confused between am & pm. To turn 3G off - Go to SETTINGS - CONNECTIVITY - NETWORK - NETWORK MODE and switch to GSM 900/1800 (or 1900 depends on country). To use 3G only select UMTS. You can also go to NETWORK SELECTION - MANUAL - and select your service provider from the list. Might boost battery life.

To have your alarm work properly, Go to TIME & DATE in your SETTINGS menu. Make sure AUTO UPDATE is NOT selected. Your alarm should work fine now. Note that your alarm wont go off when your phone is off!

You can change the message alert tone. Go to profile and EDIT. Go to where you choose the message tone and choose Special Tone. Press Options and choose CHANGE. You can browse through your midi and mmf files for another tone. Cant play Mp3's as message tone though.

I think the phone is great. I've had it a couple of weeks now and only have a couple of minor niggles. Battery seems to be no probs, I'm happy for it to last 4 days (and still be on 1 bar). However I did switch 3G off & selected network manually but am still a pretty heavy phone user. My only niggles are that you can't change the default text alerts (does anyone know how to add your own?) and that it's a little long winded to send a text. Otherwise a great little phone, smart, light and I'm a happy bunny.

I have this phone at the minute, I thinks its absolutely terrible. The camera is just rubbish- pictures are always really grainy. Its signal is really weak everywhere. The screen's too small and doesn't look very sharp. Its alarm clock and calendar reminders just plain don't work, or do sometimes- late- if they feel like it. The computer connectivity suite is practically useless. Lets see what else.... its slow to respond and type SMS and the outside screen makes whatever picture you put on it yellow-ish (its weird), oh and finally the inner screen- if you try and use a photo you take as a background it cuts the top off so you can still see a bit of the old background. Hmph! Rant done, phone is terrible and am getting a Nokia N80 immediately upon release! Bad Samsung, Bad!!

Alee - It could be a number of things.Follow these steps. Install ALL software from your CD.Turn Bluetooth off. Plug the USB cable into your phone and there should be a little icon on the screen to show you're connected. PLug out.Turn your phone off.Press 9 while switching your phone on.(white screen red outside screen saying DOWNLOAD) Plug cable in. Load each file into its place in the download program. There should be a button next to the download button - its to search for the port your phone is connected to. Press it. In the bottom left corner is a lot of greyd out things.The first checkbox in that list should now be available. Make sure its checked.Its to select the port your phone is connected to. Make sure all other programs are off.Including virus scans etc. Press Download. I hope this helps. Good luck!

Bertus, im not sure if you will be able to help me with this, but i followed all the instructions on the website to flash my phone, but after pressing download in Multiloader, nothing happened. i unpacked the firmware and located the files and everything but nothing happened after i pressed the download button. would you know the reason why?

You have to register and login to www.samsungseriez.com On your left there will be a table listing stuff "Menu Principal" (probably meaning Main Menu. Under that you click on FIRMWARES and then on Firmware Z500. It will give you a list of many different firmwares (from Vodafone to O2 etc.) The one I used (which is totally unbranded) is at the bottom called Z500REX3.1. Its a big file (about 22mb) so I hope you have ADSL or something. Hope you succeed. :-)

Here is a link to where you can find instructions on how to flash your phone. I used Z500REX3.1 firmware(22MB) . I downloaded it from www.samsungseriez.com (a spanish website - and you have to register - hectic). Please note that you do this at your OWN RISK! As you will see on the forum posted above, some people messed up their phones by trying this without being clued up 100%! Also you need to write down all your network settings (Vlive, internet, sms, mms) and back up your phone book and ringtones etc. so you can put it in after your phone has been flashed. Please make sure you understand everything before attempting this.(I'm sure your warranty will not cover this! ;-)

Hi there! I have succsesfully flashed my Z500 and it now has unbranded original firmware on. Its great! Its loader, reception and Bleutooth seems better too. It DOESN"T support THEMES though, but the user interface is beautifully done in Blue and its got really cool animations when powering the phone up or down.Even the animations on the small LCD is much prettier! All the Vlive! services still work (setting I manually put in). I don't understand why Vodafone put their crap on it in the first place...we already signed the contract or bought the phone...why advertise on your phone???? Anyway, all and all a GREAT phone.

The operator (Vodaphone / orange / 3) put their own software on the phones with all the settings already installed so that you can just go ahead and use all the 3g services. The drawback is that your whole phone is branded and you can't change the themes.With Samsung Z500's themes you can only change the 1st screen (showing the time etc), the logon and log-off screens. The menu's and icons are all Vodafone's! I thought of putting on original firmware(already downloaded it), but many people have stuffed up their phones trying to. Any words of advice/encouragement/discouragement?

1)to turn your keypad down/off simply use left side/volume key on home screen 2) T mobile do not sell this fone so any mms settings are not standard, try settings for similiar phone ie samsung e720, make sure you copy the settings from a T mobile fone

For those who are complaining about NOT being able to send MMS's or going online, you should talk to your service provider...you might have to upgrade your sim card from 16bit to 32bit/64bit or maybe one of the settings are wrong. Just call customer care! ;-)

i fixed itttt !! yay if ne1 else as dis prob go on2 d video , den options then video settings- scroll down 2 recording time. and change 2 normal NOT limit for mms ( limit 4 mms means u can onli record for 4 seconds!! :-o) so change 2 normal and u can record a full 60 minites. :D hope this helps someone :D biiiiii xxxx

To convert AVI to MPEG4 etc. you can download a little program at the follow address: There is also one for MAC on the same site(under the same name). And yes this phone does have "TV", but only "tv" programs available from your 3g service provider(like 30 sec. "24" episodes) at a monthly rate. (You can't tune in and watch your favourite soapy like a normal tv.)

unless you use 3G on your handset, turning it off will improve your battery life upto 69%. find it in connectivity settings under network settings and then network mode, finally select GSM900/1800. 3G should now be off thus improving your battery life, just turn it back on when you need it.

Sarah / tosarah, Interesting issue on whether its correct or wrong charging your new h/p for more than d usual charging time (approx 2 to 3 hrs). But in recent years, whenever i bought a new h/p or BTooth devices, d seller will always advise me to charge d phone for about 8 hrs even though d batt is either Li-Ion/Li-Polymer. I always disagree wit their advise/recommendation but then again even d Nokia/SonyE/Samsung/... distributors said d samething. "Best charge it for about 8 hrs." I got this phone a few weeks ago-aslong as you charge the phone for 16 hours when you first get it, the battery will last about 3 days. If you dont do this it will only last a day and a half every time you charge it. If you already have the phone and you haven't done it, let the battery run dead and then charge it for 16 hours.

I am really really curious to know the approximate battery life of this phone. A lot of the people are saying it is short but you never give an approximate idea of how long short is. It is a very good phone and it makes my day even better...It is eays to use and the program which comes with the phone is easy to use( if you're into computers though)...The camera has 1, 0 mpixel and takes good photos.. The camera can also be used to make videos( with sound)...The mp3 player in the phone is also very good. It is easy to use and the sound is great...I do recommend this phone, it has all the features you want and it isn't too expensive... One importnant thing : Before using it the first time, you have to charge the battery for about 14 - 16 hours. If you don't do that the batteri life will be poor...thanks

Dear all of you If you are planning to buy this mobile, DON'T!!! This phone is not worth the price and i recommend to you guys to buy a samsung NV10 instead. The different between the 2 mobiles is that the samsung Z500 has the expandable memory. But the ZV 10 features are more stable and less problems and error than Z500. I have used the 2 mobiles and NZ10 is a cheap 3G phone and perform better than Z500. (( load faster, Louder speaker, User friendly, and the screen colour seem to look beter than Z500, my opinions )

ALL 3G PHONES got a budget batteries. All of them are, because of the 3G service that it's using. I rang vodafone and spoke to 3 different technicians, all of them said 3G phone batteries should only last about 1 to 2 days and it is OK TO CHARGE YOUR PHONE EVERY NIGHT. I am concern about the batteries life too but thats how it is. Tips. 1.Turn your 3g service off. 2. Turn off the SUB LCD 3. Don't play your ms3 music at home, just use your PC to play it!!! cheers

I assume the message memory is shared with the internal memory of the phone- so a hell of alot.. got to 300ish before i sent mine back to vodafone- there was a bug on the phone but got a replacement. I highly doubt it can support word files, havent tried but i doubt it. One thing for when you get the phone: Charge for a full 16hours non-stop for the firt time, then let it fully discharge before you recharge. And to extend the battery life change from the 3g mode, and make sure blue tooth is turned off.

Hi Chris, The memory card you got will have a smaller version in it. You need to pull it out and that part will fit into your phone. The bigger part is just the adapter, if you need to put it into the memory card reader that does not take the transflash size card. Hope this helps

i have had this phone for a while now. the battery life is average for a 3G phone. I put the Network Selection on 'Manual' and Network Mode on 900/1800 instead of 3G; only putting it on 3g when i anticipate to make or receive a video call. Thereafter, I get a little over 3 days when making moderate calls, texts, pics and videos. My friend's nokia 6680 gets around the same battery life. The video quality is good, maximum recording time is 60mins without memory card. At night, when light is low, the camera lags, so all types of movement start to have 'trails' behind them. but its only at night. at first, the pc-phone software didnt work for me! but then i went to 'Phone Monitor Settings' on the pc software and enabled all the ports, and it worked! after i got it working i didnt know why it took me so long to figure out!! but bottom line, this fine is style. and for all you skeptics out there, well hey, its a mobile phone, so you shouldnt ask for too much. and i copped it for $499 in new zealand with 1 year warranty, so not bad. final comment - i really like this phone.

Answering questions: 1. Yes you can set real tones and mp3s as ring tones 2. For the movies you need to turn them in mp4's i believe 3. 1.3 mega pixel 4. The file transfer is hard, but work at it and it turns out ok. 5. 128mb mmc wont work, it only takes Micro SD cards- not mini or anything else. 6. It has speakerphone. 7. 3G is video calls etc, 2G is otherwise known as GPRS, which is for use when you dont make video calls. 8. I dont know about the 5 times for a full charge and discharge for the battery to fully work, although the battery life does seem to be slightly better now- but nowhere near full. Im on my 4th charge. 9. Des anybody know any decent information about firmware upgrades for this phone? Like ones that will improve battery life without damaging it?

Without doubt, this is the worst handset I have had and it would seem that from other comments that some of the fault lies with vodaphone. The battery life is awful and as for PC studio for connecting the phone to a Pc, this is just a joke. All syncronisation options are greyed out. Stay clear of this handset.

Recently upgraded to z500 and find it very good. Was advised by Vodafone to charge battery for 16 (sixteeen ) hours before switching it on for the first time. This is because there is a memory chip in samsung batteries which will kick inthe battery full at 100%. I do find it difficult to download my music files to the phone tho as it tells me the folder is wrong. Any suggestions?

Vodafone told me that the Z500 needs to be fully charged and discharged 5 times before the battery becomes fully active. Try that. Personally, I think the phone is excellent.

I just rang vodafone and they said that turning gprs off on your phone makes the battery last longer too- and i hardly use the wap so turning gprs wont affect me, and when i want to go on wap i will just turn it on.

1. Turn your phone off of 3G if you dont use video calls- battery life will last MUCH longer. 2. When you first get the phone you have to do the FIRST charge for 12-14hours, otherwise the phone will never charge fully- will only charge to like 60% everytime. I turn 3G off, and did a 12hour charge and the battery is ok, until I watch TV or listen to mp3's then it dies fast. So it has a bad battery, but if you do the two things I said then it will last longer.

Why would you want it to use wav? thats a very old and large file size format, use mp3s. To transfer either stick your micro sd into the sd converted and then into an sd card reader, or use the samsung pc studio that came with the phone along with the data cable that also came with the phone

I do not see why there is all this negative feedback. I got the phone yesterday and have been very impressed by it so far: it looks awesome (if you get the black version on vodafone) its solid and works well, the mp3 player is good, and its very nicer overall. My only problems with it so far are: It comes with 5 games, but all are demos- so you can only play the first levels of them. Memory cards seem hard to find- can anybody give me a link to a site where i can buy a 1gb+ micro sd card?- biggest i can find is a 512mb. Can you set an mp3 as a ringtone?- ive have a look but i dont think you can for some reason.

I have a Question about the Z500... I'm thinking of buying one since i had a E700 some time ago and it's the best phone i've had. This seems to be the new kid of the same family, but for 3G. The e700 had one flaw though, the camera kept taking pictures in my pocket 'cause of the placing of the "trigger"(?). Can I you guys ask something before I go and buy the phone? Firstly does the bluetooth allows you to send everything and with no limit of size? Because fir example Sharp does not allow files greater than 100kb to be transferred to another phone or to be received. Secondly, is the memory of the phone shared? I mean all sony-ericsson phones store only 200 messages but nokia phones as many as you want! Thirdly can it be connected with the pc and having all the operations I want? Send/receive mp3, photos, videos, backup etc? What about java applications? And lastly, is vodafon the only company that distributs the phone? I'm asking this because I live in Greece and no other company offers the phone. I don't need the 3g features but I need the mem slot and I like the specific phone! the actual name for 3G is 3rd generation...it allows users to surf the mobile internet at higher speed..and enjoy a cheaper rate..theres a new feature called 3gTV it allows user to watch tv too..and the best feature is video call..it lets the other party(who has a 3g phone too) to see u when talking at the same time..tats aka video call..the best thing abt it is tat the price is the same..for example if the price plans has free incomin call..it applys to both voice call and video call.. hope these can help u understand more abt 3g..

I wonder, why my post has been deleted. Only critizing the bad battery, it was "clean" post afterall. Well, I will put it again.... So, many of these new samsung mobiles are suffering of bad battery (you can read the reviews) and their standby time don't even exceed the values samsung have given. That's very rude for the customers, it's absolutely cheating in my opinion. Z500 is an excellent example of this. In 3G mode standby 200H, and 2G 260h = 8,3days. If you don't use your phone at all (or a little), it won't even get close to that what it should.

That really depends on where you get it, i got mine from vodafone, and i got a wire handsfree kit, data cable, 32MB transflash memorycard and adapter for it so i can use it with my computer. data cable to sync it with my adress bokk on the comp. and a cd with the samsung photo shop thing..... I think thats it, but there is one draw back you need to take it off automatic network selection... some one said how to do it earlier, it really does save battery power, i was on auto and the battery ran out after a day!! agh! but put it on the 1800/900( i think) and it lasts about 3 days... if i dont play with it ( games mp3 videos etc) anyway, hope this helps you, Thanks for calling o2!

I have just upgraded from a Nokia 6230 to this phone, I have had 1 problem with it since getting it today, which was that on 3G, I had no signal in my house, I phoned Voadafone, they was useless, it was only by looking through the phone that I found that I could change it from 3G to GSM. i wouldnt recommend buying the samsung z500. i have had mine for 2 months there r three alarms on the phone and organiser and none of them hardly ever go off, there must be a manufacturing fault as i have read some other reviews and people have stated the same thing, there is supposed to be 65 ringtones also i can only find 15!the battery doesnt last that long either,to be honest if it hadnt hd an accident i would have kept my e700 cos this is rubbish. but unfotuatly i am now stuck with it as on contract.

The mp3 and mid files sound low. Sometimes the mp3's and mid's sound pretty ok, all depending on the mid or mp3... But if you use mmf, which Samsung works great with, the sound is gonna be very loud. I have to turn the volume down a bit, because it's too loud.

Hi, I have a problem with a samsung Z500. It ended up going into the washing machine and getting soaked. As I assumed that it would be destroyed by the water I got a new phone and sim through the insurance. Strangely, after about 7 hours on a radiator I decided to try to power it up using a different SIM and it worked. I allowed it to dry for another few hours and its almost perfect. Now when I put my new sim into it it will allow me to make/receive calls for about the first few mins and then all incoming and outgoing calls are rejected. "Call Rejected" is displayed. Obviously to get the new phone and sim, the old sim was blocked. Could it be that the phone was also blocked or is it simply that the water damaged it in a way that only allows calls to be made for the first few mins? Does anybody have any solutions cause it seems to be a real waste to bin a phone that is other wise perfect.

A commonality across alot of these reviews is the battery life. There are a few ways that battery life can be pro-longed: 12-15 initial charge, thereafter you should NOT let the battery go completely flat - when 2/3 empty - charge it until FULL! Keep in mind leaving bluetooth on consistently will destroy your battery life. Alarms, calendar notes, taking photos, listening to music, using the 3g network all uses up battery life, video recording being the biggest consumer. Apart from that - keep in mind samsung offer a 12 month warranty on the phone (and battery) - so keep your reciept.

This is answering "Johnson's" questions regarding Z500 vs 6600. I wouldnt be relying on the z500 for the job of connecting to the net via GPRS. Nokia's 6600 may not be the right phone for you either. Why dont you put some interest into the Nokia 6680. This phone again is a 3g unit, class 10 GPRS, data speed of 384kbps and runs on a Symbian 8.0a operating system. Which basically means that the 6680 is a more powerful tool, more "setup" for the type of industry that your wanting to use. Being 3g, this also gives seemless roaming between 2.5 and 3g networks when roaming. Good luck mate

This is answering "kenix's" question regarding bluetooth headsets: The Z500 runs on a 1.2 bluetooth version whereas your headset (hs810) runs on an older 1.1 version. The two devices may pair, but you will find that the consistent dropping out, no audio, low volume etc will result from the incompatibilty. If your happy with the motorola headset - i recommend using the newer HS850 (black) which utilises the 1.2 version of bluetooth, otherwise with any new phone its best to stick with the same manufacturer. TO SCOTT I had the same probs when I got mine. The alarm and clock were both unreliable so I took it back and got replacement TWICE!!! My third one can still be temperamental re the alarm, i.e. it goes off when it wants or not at all!! Don't rely on it to wake you up. There is a software prob. Take it back ASAP and get it changed.

i have a z500, its great the battery lasts sometimes 3-4 days with little use or 1-2 day heavy, the only bad thing is that the speakerphone isnt veryloud...if you r thinking of getting this phone then dont as the z700 will be out shortly and tht has a 3mp camera!!!!

Hi, still looking for firmware help. I have dowloaded Orange firmware onto a Vodafone phone. The phone works fine but the menus are even worse than with the Vodafone firmware. I know there is an unbranded firmware around called RexNet but I don't know where to get it. The only link provided was to a Spanish speaking site wihich was almost impossible to translate and didn't seem to provide any links. ANy help for us English speaking monkeys would be gratefully received. Even an up-to-date Vodafone firmware would help. I fall on the mercy of the great gurus of this site to provide help.

For those that they like the shape of E700, the Samsung Z500 it is the best by far 3G small mobile that you can buy. In Cyprus where we have 3G it is an excellent choice and Soundtech is selling them a lot. If ones like a bit bigger then Samsung Z300 is an excellent option. In regards to T-Flash, Samsung Z500 can use T-Flash MMC cards and we are selling them with 256MB or 512MB. The new name of T-Flash 512MB it can be found as MicroSD.

I'm 1 of those lucky 1's that got a major upgrade. Had a e700 now z500. This phone is great, havn't had a problem yet. This phone gives the user lots of flexability when it comes to customizing. Does any one know how to play music and then access the other phones features while the music plays. There is a trick that you can do for the d500(not sure for other phones) that allows you to play mp3z and use the other features. email me if you have a question or even better and answer to my minor problem.

Vodafone Australia has now released their 3G Video call service. I've got a Z500 which originally had TIM software on it which has since been updated to RexNet with no branding. I'm trying to get the Video Call to work - I've changed the simcard (to a 3G compatible, from Vodafone), changed the network mode back to "automatic" from GSM 900/1800. The phone is finding the 3G network (marked by a "3G" symbol in the top left hand corner of the screen", however when I dial a number to make a call, the phone says "dialling", but nothing else happens. I've got the correct Vodafone Live settings for GPRS also. Does anyone have any ideas as to how I may be able to get the phone to work for video calls? Any other settings I may need to change that I haven't already? Any help would be much appreciated - I'm trying desperately to get it to work. Thanks

I have recently updated my firmware, but have made a slight mistake. I have uploaded Orange firmware to a Vodafone phone. The phone works, but I have lost all the settings for browser etc. Does anyone know of an easy way to reinput all of my settings or have a source for the latest Vodafone firmware? To Morgan and big james When you open up[ the phone you hear a sound. Morgan doesn't like it and big james says it is because you are holding one of the side buttons when you open up the phone. Actually it makes the default sound because you have it switched on to do so. You can switch it off by going to SETTINGS>PROFILES choose the Profile you want then click OPTIONS>EDIT. Scroll down until you get to PHONE SOUNDS and click the little black button. Scroll down until you see FOLDER OPEN/CLOSE and uncheck it if you son't want it to make the sound when you open or close the phone. Make sure you save your settings. Sorry I don't know if you can change the sound to one you want but at least if you find the default one annoying you can switch it off

Just to bring up this issue, which is apparent about the battery. I'm getting 2 full days usage out of it. With regards the MP3 players, I will use my IPOD or my car CD player so no need to drill it. to morgan, the open/close tone doesnt actually exist, it occurs when you press one of the side buttons accidentaly whilst opening/closing the phone. i have had many problems with this phone and have gone back to my very reliable nokia 6230. This battery doesnt last at all, especially with the mp3 player playing, there is only one speaker, on the inside of the phone which dampens the sound of the ringtone when the phone is closed, As well as a keen music person, i also enjoy my free evening and weekend texts from orange but it is impossible to keep the music player on whilst texting/using other aplications unlike on a nokia. Also is there any way of getting rid of the orange home screen or orange menu as they are very annoying?

I have just browsed through the manual [version 1.3] and it says that under Organiser/Alarm there should be something called AutoPower which enables you to have the alarm work even when the phone is switched off. So with regards the battery life, after charging my phone on Friday morning I turned it on around 5pm Friday evening. I left it on all weekend making calls on it and at 11.30 last night I was down to 1 bar, so for me the battery doesn't seem too bad

Hey People, just stating some quick information. If you ever find that your phone wont send or receive txt messages, or make out going calls, heres a tip: The phone is automatically set to swap from 2G and 3G. you will find if you have problems with your phone, its because the phone is searching for a 3G signal or has a very small 3G coverage. change your setting on your phone to GSM, it will change it to only 2G but this should fix the problem. If you ever need to make a video call, u can always turn it back on.

Hi David: I've always had my Z500 switched on 24/7 however, I think the alarm doesn't work when the phone is switched off. The cool clock doesn't stay on is to save battery life of the phone. The network mode of your Z500V would have been set as "automatic" which means it will automatically switch between 2G & 3G networks depending on coverage, if you switch it to 2G only, I think it will have just as good reception as your 6230.

Just got the phone and it's very nice looking. A couple of points: 1) Will the alarm not work unless the phone is on? I had my fingers crossed the whole time!) but I followed the procedure they've got in here: and it seemed to work well. I haven't had any problems with my phone since doing that. I'm in Australia and I my original firmware had the phone was imported from ebay - it had TIM software all over it. The firmware downloaded was from here: Right down at the bottom of the page, it's Z500REX02.2 (there seems to be newer version now 3.1, but i don't know what the "CKEH2 modification" does - does anyone know?).

I've got a couple of questions really, i like the phone but after having a nokia i'm finding it a bit confusing. There are 3 specific things i can't seem to do: 1, i'm on orange and it has it's own home screen, i want to have my own shortcuts - is that possible cos there's aren't my preference. 2, i've been sent a ringtone by a friend but can't seem to set it as a ringtone on my phone. Just download the mp3 files ( you can cut them with NERO WAVE EDITOR or other)... and then: settings - profiles - left key ( to acced to options of normal) - edit - then, click on "voice call ringtone" - now go left and right to change the folder, and up and down to change the file... and choose the file that you downloaded.....

I have had this phone now for 3 months, and its really annoying me, the battery dies in a matter of hours. Yes i do have to admit i enjoy having all of its great features at my fingertips, however this phone has been hyped up so much, and i feel it to be a let down, because the phone is constantly on charge. This phone is a complete waste of time. Came to work using bluetooth in the car, got to the office and I cann't make or receive phone calls. On Vodafone. Very fidly buttons,vodafone live takes ages to load and then cuts out. Dont get it.

TO GARY re. the alarm. Go to applications, media player then highlight the second folder which is the alarms.Then select what you want to do. I must warn you though that the alarm on this phone is very unreliable. I'm on my 3rd Z500 as previous 2 had probs and this one has given me some grief too but I've got fed up with complaining about it so just accept it as a flaw with this particular samsung. Battery life is pathetic too. I have to charge it every night.

also, i've just realised that there are camera shortcuts with the keys... not sure if it's come about after the firmware upgrade or whether it's been there the whole time. The shortcuts dont seem to be mentioned in the manual. I can now have a full-screen viewfinder by pressing the * key while in camera mode, 7 to get picture borders, 2 to change resolution etc.

Hi All, Finally debranded my phone with the Rexnet firmware - great firmware with no branding at all! Just wondering... has anyone figured out how to get rid of the operator logo yet? Seems to get in the way of my wallpaper. Think this question has been asked before, and a response was given, but doesn't seem to work on all firmwares... I've also got those system files - pics and games that I want to get rid of to free up memory, but there's no option to delete - seems to have been hardcoded into the phone as a "system file" by the supplier/manufacturer.. i had this phone its features are good but i prefer the D500 because it looks alot better and i'm not bothered about 3g as none of my m8s have a 3g phone. I have a ipod so i dont need a memory slot for all that extra memory from a memory card. The z500 looks very outdated it is exactly the same as a E700 lookswise except for a different colour shell. The E700 is close to 3 years old most people thought this was just a basic samsung clamshell phone when i had it. But a D500 on the other hand, well everyone knows and appreciates the D500 including myself.

I have recently bought this phone from three in australia. It is a great little phone but somewhat expensive. I would advise it to anyone who wants three capabilities in a small package. I love this phone, it has everything i need/want and more! the menu is intuitive and sooo easy to use. the camera is okay quality but blurs a little as the lens attracts dust. there is loads of memory - 50 mbs and the expandable transflash slot is great! So if you want a really good phone and have money to spend... the samsung z500 is made for you, just like its made for me!!:p

Anybody tried Tranfering file BIGGER then 6Mb to Z500? I have tried using it without External T-Flash Memory Card it will not accept. If with Memory card will it works. If YES then I will but a Bigger Memory maybe 256Mb. Thanks

Hi Chadwick yes I'm from Malaysia. If you know the seller for the T Flash maybe you can try it out using 512Mb first before you buy or you can ask the Samsung Sales & service before you buy. If not maybe you can use 2 units 256Mb for Different file.

I must have done something in the Test mode (*#9998*324#), now my phone cannot make/receive calls & access WAP within 3G coverage area. It works fine in GSM/GPRS mode though. Can anyone help me please??? I tried taking it into a service centre and they told me it will take about 2-3 days to look at the problem, I just couldn't be bothered...

Ok but I haven't got a clue about how to install games directly from ur pc to the phone...i dont either have a cable so i just use my IR on my pc to connect the phone in that way i can put pics and mp3s but not java games...but i saw that a couple of italian guys were developing a method but i have not got an idea of when they will have it done...Peace...sorry for the bad language in a hurry plus from sweden hahaha ;)

I really dont understand what u mean...You have to be able to use my site because I use it and my friend uses it also but with another samsung...Which file are u talking about? There has to be several files and you can scroll down through them... just press the middle button on your phone and it will ask if you wanna download the game...then press it again and it will start downloading it and then saves it in your games folder...Try again...Peace out...

WEll it incrised my batt time by +- 30% more and more stabel then the privias one You now can use mp3 as ring tone with no problems.Still have more tests on it to do. If you wander were I got the New software, I work for the big GSM repair center in the samsung sector, so we get the updates first to test And must important of all I have an z500 myself. I think you can contact vodafone or go by a voda shop and get the SW upgrd.

My Samsung was not really that bad in standby when I changed the network mode from automatic to GSM only (900/1800), I am getting about 2 - 2.5 days, maybe 3 days, with my phone switched on 24/7. Having said that, I still can't get into the admin setting. Maybe the code only works with specific SW versions, mine is Z500BUEG5. I could however get into test mode by entering *#9998*324# I would be very careful in this mode as it may damage your phone's software. I almost could not get my Z500V to search network!!! SO BE VERY CAREFUL!!!!!

hey does anybody know how to work that debug menu after entering the *#9998*324# code? You should be able to adjust the volume of the handset in the Audio Gain menu (option 8) and setting it to an increased dB level but im not sure how to get the new settings saved. When i enter the menu it says "READ" at the top of the screen then after i select an option it changes to "WRITE" but i dont know what to do next. any ideas?

Major problems: The alarm does not go off when the phone is switched off and the PC software that comes with the phone is crap - the PC Suite does not work on Windows 2000 - Small problems:its a bit difficult to text unless you're fairly dextrous, and the battery life is a bit on the low side from what I've seen so far even with switching off Bluetooth etc and with pretty low usage

i have just got this fone after having nokia 6230i for 3 months. I was not exactly 'impressed' with nokia 6230i asw it is too easy to get used to....perfect keypad and menu structure, this doenst make it feel as 'special' as it really is, until you get a samsung z500. z500, feels nice and expensive and just looks ace. but i have to say i prefer 6230i anyday which, after much begging, i have managed to retrive from my dad! the camera is good, but when set to its full resulution, on either camera, you are unable to zoom in. the mp3 player is also good, but the music player must be open, you cannot have it playing in the backrground and text or do anything else at same time. the charger and headphone sockets soon get very fragile and annoying. this phone was bought on orange contract (as was my nokia 6230i) but this one has the annoying orange home screen down the left hand side. I find this very annoying as i prefer to set the function keys to my usage not automatically to missed calls etc. overall out of nokia or samsung. go nokia

This phone is excellent i have had it for a month now on o2 and it has been working perfectly. It has plenty of space for mp3's if 256mb isn't enough you can buy as many 256mb cars as you like and take them around with you to use since the phone has a hot swap memory card slot and the microcards are so tiny. I have 4x 256MB cards for this phone. Phone has perfect video that allows you to record upto 1 hour for every 60MB's of memory used i have fitted 2 films on 1 of my 256mb memory cards with over 25mb space remaining the rest have all my mp3's on. Camera is crisp and vivid much better quality than D500 as the D500's picture quality looked washed out. Phone call quality is perfect on this phone unlike the e720 which suffered from voice clarity. i have noticed alot of people have problems with this phone on vodafone i personally wouldn't buy a phone from vodafone as they re edit the phones menu changing the whole look and feel of the phone for the worse. It has become standard practice for vodafone uk to change the menu on all their handsets they sell so they only show the vodafone colours in the phones menu which are red and grey which not only makes the menu look ugly but the phone also becomes unstable. This is why so many people have been having prolems with the z500 on vodafone. Vodafone also take features out all their phones such as not allowing you the choice to have mp3 ringtones as they want you to buy ringtones from their vodafone live wap site, disgusting.

hi lynne to use mp3s as sms tones they need to be in mmf format. to customise message tones use a tool such as mp3trim to cut your mp3 & adjust the volume then convert it to a wav file, i use MP3&WAV Converter v1.09, then convert it to a mmf / smaf file i use Wave to SMAF Converter (WSC-MA2-SMAF) from www.smaf-yamaha.com then upload the mmf file to your phone & save in my files - ringtones

My z500 replaced am S/E s700, Its a little miracle! No loss of features (except flash which is useless really) and very small and usable. 3G works well and offers 345kbs when last used as a modem! All this and looks too!!! Buy it!

Got a Z500 on Vodafone 1 month ago & have had nothing but problems. Will be returning my 3rd phone asap as battery life seems to be maximum of 1 1/2 days after no useage, clock has a mind of it's own resetting itself whenever it likes (even running backwards!) & seems impossible to turn alarm on. Nice looking compact and light but for me it is very unreliable.

To everyone asking about switching network settings from 3g to 2g to extend battery this is the procedure. then change from whatever it is (probably automatic) to GSM 900/1800 I never bought this phone for 3g services. i got it becuase it is the smallest, best looking feature-packed head-turner you can currently get (in my opinion). The alarm goes of when it feels like it which takes all of the predictablity out of whether or not you will have a job at the end of the week but hey ho, if thats a problem you can always get a traditional alarm clock. All other features work great. There are better camera phones, better video phones, better mp3 phones but this is a good all-rounder. in 2-3 years we may be at the point where you can shelve your digi cam, video recorder and Ipod becuase your phone does it all just as well. For now however, the primary function of *my* phone has to be a phone and on that front, the samsung does well. crystal voice quality, loudspeaker function and compact enough to carry anywhere. Did i also mention it looks the puppy's privates ;)

Had my z500 for few weeks now & I am satisfied with the phone. It has nice features, but there is one disadvantage and that is the battery. It doesn't last very long and I have to keep charging it often. Otherwise a really cool phone!

Had my Z500V for a few months now. Battery - mine lasts for 2-3 days, just under an hour of calls each day, few texts, and about 1.5-2 hrs of media playing each day. This is using it in GSM mode and the CS mode (disconnecting from GPRS). Alarm - I think mine is finally sorted. I've tried 4 different firmwares from different operators. Fingers crossed. Overall, has been a lot of hassle and battery could still be a bit better but for a middle market phone its a good buy.

if you turn of your automatic update of your clock, it will not change the time at all. If youve purchased it with orange it is already off and with vodafone it is on. if you want to have more batterylife just switch your phone to 2g rather than 3g.

To Vanessa.. Yes it is possible to zoom with the camera both movies and pictures. There is no record limit , just until your memory is full. The mp3 sound is quite soft but perfect sound with the headset , and you can also use the speaker (that comes with the Samsung d-500 but which you can buy exclusive also). I dont know whether the z500 has problems on vodafone. what i do know is that i've got mine on orange and its brill. the alarm works like magic, it always goes off. the clock doesnt change by itself like some people have posted. the fone is spectacular and i cant put it down. i've had it for a week now and there seems to be no problems. the only thing is the battery but the settings can be changed to make it last longer. personally i prefer it in the 3g mode as i do video calling. mine is the sgh-z500. i think that the vodafone one is the z500-v and that appears to have lots of problems. my advice is to get it one orange, seems to be better quality. i would like to aske though if anyone knows how to increase the volume of ringtones. the ones that came with the phone are quite loud but the ones that i've downloaded seems to be quieter. is there anything that can be done about it? thanx

I have had the Z500 for two weeks now on orange. I have been reading some of the crap reports about the phone on this website. All i can say is that thre must have been some early problems but i think they are all ok. The software and the connection leed are brill, download mp3's, animations, screensavers, wallpaper ect in seconds no need buy a bluetooth adapter. Top camera you can make your own good quality videos from recording infront of a tft screen, i use my 9 inch portable dvd player. change the length of the quality to highest and change the length of time you can record a clip to, hey presto top quality clips that you can send to your mates via the cool bluetooth. I checked out my alarm after reading about it on the site -fine. it is a top phone for the size just compare it to the 3 g monsters about. My last phone was a gx 20 which had an amazing screen/camera . this phone is the dogs nuts when you can download movie trailers / videos on orange. I did change the settings for the battery to change network 9/1800 instead of automatic which has improved the battery life a hell of a lot. You just want to show this phone off to people i just love it!!! you can even play mp3's with the phone shut now how cool is that! I thought i would write my opion after reading so many negative reviews on here !

Love the size, shape and general function of the phone. However, it has to go back as the alarms and calendar alarms simply cannot be relied upon. It's on Vodafone. Alarms set in the near future will go off, but those set for E.g. tomorrow morning, it's hit and miss. Same with calendar alarms for meetings etc. This morning's alarms (I set all 3 to be staggered just in case one of them fancied going off). None went off. This evening when I accessed the alarm app to set for tomorrow all three alarms went off when I opened 'alarm' app. Vodafone deny knowledge of any other user with this fault. Big question: Do the alarms work on Orange?

TO ANDY W. I just read your comments. I thought I was doing well with this being my THIRD Z500 due to other two being faulty, but you have had 5! You must be a patient, understanding guy! I'm also on Vodafone. My previous 2 had the faulty alarm and clock. My husband also has the Z500 and he had to send one of his back due to the same problem. His second is fine, as is my third! Apart from the crap battery life, the phone is ok. Incidentally, my model number is SGH-Z500V. I read in a previous comment that the ones ending in a V will be ok! Seems to be the case for me and my hubby.

Just got my Z500 last week and it is a reasonable phone. It's nothing exceptional. Personally, my 3 year old Nokia was better. It didn't have a camera, MP3 or anything like that, but it was a lot more configurable, and the alarm actually works on it (It never failed me). The alarm on my Z500 works when it feels like it. I even set two alarms on it, both of which failed to go off, making me late for work. I got the phone from O2, and the auto update for the time is off. If anyone knows how to resolve the alarm issue then please let me know. Way to go Samsung! Can't even make an alarm work! Can't even make a phone as good as a 3/4 year old Nokia!

thanks Timmy, got the pic ID working now! the battery life seems to be the one major concern with this phone. Have to say, mine lasts about 2-3 days (moderate use). I am lucky though, i have plug sockets in my house and can power it up while i sleep. Seriously, if you are having problems, check out whether your phone is roaming continously for 3g coverage and wasting the battery (you can change this to 900/1800 in the settings). also bluetooth, is this switched on continously?

this is my first samsung and besides the poor battery life i thought samsung had the best displays,its what has always been well known but i think its poor ESPECIALLY next to my o2 x3 which is bright and full of colur and thats on the lower brightness and contrast settins.I am now thinking the screen is a bit to small now for video never mind video calling.the alarm still does not work and have to use a calender appointment to get me up and it does that by giving me a heart attack.regreetting it day by day

Does anybody know how to remove the O2-UK operator logo from the Z500? they usually have options in the wallpaper settings to remove it but the Z500 doesn't for some reason.... very annoying from a �250 phone! just like to say I had z500 about a month ago.I sent it back as got pissed off with extremely poor battery life!!I now have sony ericsson k750i and much better phone...easy to use,superb camera (2 megapixels) and long standby/talktime.Personally,I dont think it looks as good as z500 but hey..looks arent everything!!

Hi Tuck: I have had a look and what you do is: 1)choose the pic you want 2)Go "Options" and then "Set As" 3) insted of choosing the Walpaper option choose "Caller ID" 4) it will ask you to choose the contact you want to assign that pic to and click "option" and then "select" JOBE DONE! I really like this phone aswel, I am happy to help with questions that people have and check them daily (usualy)

Got it love it batt charged quickly, uploaded mp3's re encoded some videos using ImTOO PSP convertor to 176x144 and getting size below 6mb at any cost :P But got Orange UK and i really want it off my main screen so i can use shortcuts! takes me 4 clicks to open a new message - 1 brings up menu, 2 click down, 3 open messages 4 open new message......... any ideas other than buying flash kit

The phone is fantastic - the battery is terrible. I've seen all the posts with the codes for the tech menu - when i use it it says 'unknown command'. I'm on vodafone does anyone have any ideas of how to get round this? I've also tried the two net work codes but get auto subnet is locked message.

GAZ, I tried using the unlock code on my Vodafone Z500. I received the message "Auto subset lock: activated" after the first one and "Auto Network lock: activated" after the second. When entering the five digit part of the code at the end the figures are replaced by dashes. Has Vodafone blocked the unlock or is something wrong? Cheers,

I like my Z500, I gota say I've had to problems with the clock or alarms, and the battery life seems fine to me, although I suppose it depends what you were expecting. I do have one gripe. How the hell can you get Java apps on the phone? I've tried copying them over with the data cable to the file download folder. All that seems to do is give me a file. Sure I can download games via the next, but I've got to pay for them. Does anyone know how to copy java apps onto the phone and run them? Is there any third party software to let you do this? Cheers

Hi andy i have this phone i only brought it once on o2 and i aint had a problem wiv the alarm or the clock loosing time as you have mentioned. It must be the vodafone ones only that have these problems as vodafone install their own red and grey menu's on all their phones now. That's one of the main reasons i never buy from vodafone, they customise the menu into a ugly red and grey and you dont get the full samsung feel to the handset. Imagine that, 262 thousand colours yet vodafone only wants you to see 2, how disgusting. Vodafone also lock their phones even on contracts and take out some features such as mp3 ringtones as they want you to pay for them from their wap site which is why they customise the menu with the vodafone live key.(mp3 ringtones feature was disabled in k700i on vodafone, may have also been disabled on z500 but one things for sure vodafone always change/mess the menu up on all their phones leaving the phone less reliable-soz for the blog like post but vodafone really p me off. My advice to you would be to sell the dam thing asap while you can still get most of what you paid for the phone and buy one on o2 which i have done since o2 dont tamper with the phones menu.

Hi, I am not to sure if my Z500 has the alarm problem? i heard about it and so i set 2 test alarms the 1st one to go in 10 mins time and the other in 15mins time and they both went off! i have S/W version Z50CDZEF8 you find it by entering that *#1546792*# and go to version, also make sure you change the Network & Call settings and the Service Domain from Combined to CS, before i did this i was getting MAX 1 day and now im getting MIN 3 1/2 it takes the little G of by the reception this stops the phone from being connected to GPRS 24/7 which saves the battery life..yes it means your phone is just not constantly connected..

i am now on my fourth handset in 6 weeks & every one of them has had a problem with the alarm not working about 60% of the time. 2 of the handsets also had problems with the time jumping back & forth. really like this phone & i dont really want to change but getting bit p****d off now as samsung & vodaphone must know of problem yet keep sending faulty phones out

hi leesa you wright the fone does lose time, you have to take it off automatic update with the network. Then it will work fine afterwords. Some networks don't sapport it. As for the alarm there is a problem with the software of the z500, samsung is working hard on that problem, also on the problem of the battery. Hope this helps you.

Leesha you only said your alarm doesn't work you never mentioned anything about the phone loosing time in your other posts else I would have agreed with you. I find it imposible for a phone to loose time. It doesn't loose time and i believe you just made that up becuase deep down you knew my point was significantly valid and that you're being fussy over the alarm clock so you thought up another fault to substantiate your agurement.

Supoze after having this phone for 2 weeks now i should have my say about it! I give this phone a 9.5 out of 10. It has a very nice screen i like the little one on the outside as it glows all the time, Good MP3's and MP4 playback. Nice and small easy to use. The video streaming is soo cool and of decent quality for a good priced mobile! Recomended to all those people tossing up between Sony Ericsson V800 (Don't Go There!!) Or the Nokia 6680 Ect Ect.

TO LEESHA I know that this 3rd handset is ok because the 2 others had probs right from the very beginning, i.e. first time in using. This 3rd handset I've had for 2 weeks and it's completely fine, I'm happy with it. My husband also has the Z500 and his 1st one had probs but his 2nd is good. He loves the phone. I think the newer batches are ok now.

Hi I just want to say that the Z500 is a great phone with many features. i'm in the UK and I have no problem with the battery, my phone last's for about 3 days before it needs charging. As for reception in my area I get full 5 bars when I'm at home or outside and there's no problem with the alarm. There are 3 types of samsung Z500 you can have, SGH-Z500, SGH-Z500S or Z500V. I have the SGH-Z500V, this is the latest Z500, maybe the earlier ones had faults with the battery or the alarm and other things that people have been complaining about or maybe there's a regional fault with this phone.

this is a turbocharged e720 good lithium polymer battery, good framerate video,crystal clear" if a bit "small screen.it is so compact with everything in it.its got a better battery life than my n6630.it feels solid and have not tried alarm yet i just use an alarmed appointment or calender entry as it wakes you up with a message for the day ahead.i can only give it 9.5/10 because i suppose that will have to be reserved for a future phone with tele!!!have had 22 phones now and this is my second best because my mpx220 ranks first,its a clamshell masterpiece with which you can do just about anything,its far more stable than the spv100/200 etc.

Well Damon I normally wouldnt bother replying to a comment like that but I'd like to point out that if you pay that much for a phone you expect a certain level of quality and performance, and I do believe that a faulty alarm and a clock that loses time (i.e. faulty software) is just not good enough so I think we are perfectly justified to bring the phone back. Deborah how can you be sure the phone wont just come up with the same fault over and over every time you get a new handset? Did the guy in the shop say they were aware of the problem or that it would be fixed in newer handsets? Thx.

I thought I was the only one w/ problems with the alarm!!!! I am SO glad to read that I am the not the only one. Three times now I have tried to set the alarm, hoping to wake to it, and only one of three times has it actually gone off! The one time that it actually worked, I set the alarm to a minute before the time I was testing it to see what was wrong, and it worked. The following day I was awoken by the device. (I assumed that it may have been because I have been known to be a bit of a heavy sleeper.) Last night I set the alarm, and AGAIN it did not go off! Its a frustrating situation because I paid SO much for the phone... Please e-mail me if anyone has found a solution... It makes me wonder what OTHER problems the phone may have, with features I have not gotten around to testing...

Nice little phone - had it about a month or so now. Camera switch/button on the side is ludicrous design fault! Grrr!!! As I'm an ancient crumbly I haven't tried all the features yet - worrying about the alarm though! Fairly decent image quality on stills, good battery life, lightweight and charges quickly! TO LEESHA Regarding the alarm prob. I had same problem with my alarm and clock not functioning properly. Samsung have software problem and I actually changed my handset 3 times! This third one seems fine so I suggest you take yours back and get replacement. It's a great little phone once it's working properly.

Other available phones are the nokia 6630 and 6680 the Sony Ericson E800(?) and that is about it. 3G in belgium is alleged to cover 66% of the population but i do not expect great performance on this in the first months. i just got my phone yesterday and I didn't have to copy my mp3 files into teh ringtone folder, all i did was move to the left and select my mp3 music as a ringtone and this phone is pretty great.

rang samsung today about the downloading problem and they said they are aware of it and that it is the software you get with the phone that is the problem. They will have the new version on their website from next week for downloading and then you will be able to transfer mp3's from your pc to mobile. It will be on www.samsungmobile.com in a weeks time.

YHeadpin, you can set your ringtone as an mp3 if you copy the mp3 into your ringtone folder. I had to do this by plugging my transflash card into a cardreader and using internet explorer to copy the files, because I haven't managed to get the software supplied to download onto the phone (upload works fine, though.)

Hi can someone help me please. I got my Z500 about a week ago and I tried installing the Samsung PC Studio software on my computer but I got an error message saying that you can only install this software on Windows 2000 or XP. Im currently running a Windows 98 operating system. I tried installing the programme from the samsung website and I got the same message. I got the phone for free when i signed a new contract that i would stay with my provider for another two years... and i have to say that i'm quite happy with it... here in the netherlands i have complete g3-network with the vodafoneprovider so i have no complains... it can be that other countries don't have such a good network but i believe that in the near future that will get better....

If your referring to the Vodafone webmap its hopelessly optimistic. I think they cover themselves by saying its "outdoor coverage" which is pretty much useless. The Vodafone stores have a different webmap which shows greater detail, by chance I looked at this when I was checking out the z500 and v600. Luckly I get about 1-3 bars coverage downstairs at home :) Rob

to blowfish,,a very interesting read.im in uk and used a coverage map before purchasing a 3g fone for obvious reasons.It looked good with bright red indicating max coverage of my area,So bought fone and no 3g signal at all so got a refund under it being faulty which by law was truthful as the product did not do what it was suupposed to.Therefore is there no device around that can detect 3g and its strength or is this restricted to the companys,,they do one for wi-fi in the uk and its on a keyring.People in uk are fed up with high expectations and every new fad just being really seriously a massive letdown.This handset may work better in uk as i keep thinking its a uk site only and when most faults are being reported and im taking note - then finding out most of these posts are usa and not perhaps relavent to uk users.Its still a miniature marvel but they could have increased the weight and put a 1600mA batt in it??

Hi all. I get amazed when I read all the opinions where people compare the Z500 (or any UMTS phone for that sake) with GSM phones and blame the short battery life and the poor reception on the handset. Why does the battery drain so fast??? There is nothing that will drain your battery as fast as having poor reception on your phone, hence the phone has to crank up its transmitter to be able to reach the closest base station. Then why is the reception poor??? The prefered radio interface in this phone is the 1900 MHz UMTS (3G) interface. This type of network is not an upgrade to the legacy GSM network, but rather a completely new overlay network. Due to the cost to build this new network, most operators do not equip all existing GSM sites with UMTS functionality, just enough to achive a minimal coverage of the network. This will result in a, from a user/handset point of view, coverage that does not match its GSM counterparts. Who should buy this phone??? You should invest in the Z500 (or another 3G phone) only if you know that the operator you are using provides good 3G coverage in your area. If they don't, do NOT expect your coverage or battery life to be at all near what you get from your old GSM phone How can I know what coverage my operator provides??? You can't! I myself work for an operator (a large operator, whom I will leave unnamed) and I know for a fact that the coverage charts the operators supply to the public is qualified BS!!!! What you can do is to assume that your operator only have at most average-to-good coverage in urban areas and poor coverage in rural areas. It is bound to get better as the 3G community gets bigger (# of users). Bottom line: You can only expect your 3G phone to work as well as your operators network allows it to. What you could do is to force your 3G phone to use a GSM uplink when you're not using 3G services. That will save you battery and improve your coverage. Stop blaming the phones for what's the operators faults.....

hey, im trying to get my phone connected to the pc so i can transfer pics and mp3's but it doesnt seem to be working. ive installed all of the drivers and pc suite on to my pc from the cd. ive then gone onto the pc suite but most things are faded out so i cant click on them, ive went into help and it says wen i first loaded it up it should have asked for registration n stuff but it never. does ne1 have annything i can try, instructions or something??? this was posted by natalie. akr if you are still inside the 14 day return take it back . i had the samsung z500 . the sony ericsson v600i. and now the sony ericsson w800 . which i will stick with brill phone. i found the sony ericssons to have better standby s. vodafone rule..the v600i is a brill phone its just the 3g reception in my area is not very good . better near big towns and citys. will wait a year . the phones can only get better .but the w800 will keep me happy for a while .. brill cam on it . 2 mega pixel . 512 mb card standard ..mp3 player is class. looks like sony ericsson beat them again .. nokia samsung the rest will follow.

If you save the contacts to phone memory (not the sim card) you can store a wealth of info, you just have to go into the menu and select add number. You can store mobile, home, work, 2 emails, their address etc. for each of the 1000 contacts.

it can store several numbers per name if u are using the phone memory...yeah, d alarm clock is crap..sometimes it works, sometimes it does not..i cant change d skin & i cant remove d operator logo..it's bcoz my phone is TIM branded..can anyone restore d orig settings?

As far as I can see you can only save one number per contact and yes its pretty easy to synchronise, the only trouble I am having with the phone is getting my songs to the mp3- pulling my hair out here!!

On the E720 you can have 5 numbers per contact (home, office, mobile, fax, other) and most of my contacts have at least 2 or more numbers each! You can store 1000 numbers on the phone plus whatever your sim card holds. Under each contact you can save, name, number, 2 email addresses, homepage and birthday. Also job title, position in company, nickname and notes. You can store 200 messages between your folders, plus what you have on your sim.

I'd ordered (and was quite excited about) the E720 on Orange, until I suddenly discovered the Z500 on their website and immediately changed my order becuase it appears to have everything the E720 has, and so much more (3G, infrared, speakerphone, memory card), but I have a few questions for any helpful soul who owns one of these handsets... 1. How many phone numbers can be stored in the phonebook (home, office, mobile, etc) 2. What other categories are there in the phonebook (emails, URLs, notes, etc) for the contact's information? 3. Well, this is my SECOND Z500! The first I took back due to faulty alarm and clock. I've had this one for 2 days and I thought it was going to be ok but I have my doubts! Last night I set my alarm and it came on as expected to wake me up so I thought to myself, so far so good. Then I was transferring data from my old phone to z500 via bluetooth and noticed that my clock had stopped for the duration of me transferring and swapping data for approx 2 hours. So my new phone looks like it too has a fault in the clock. I'm getting really cheesed off with it now. I'll give it one more chance,if no good, then this will also be going back.

The downloading thing - I phoned vodafone and they said it was a known fault with vodafone live and the z500 - they refunded all the costs I had incurred and said they are 'working on it' - and to phone back in a week if I still had probs. Since then, I have managed to download a couple of video clips no prob, but still intermittent probs. Also - cant move music from my pc on to my phone. Says 'this file is not an audio file and is not suitable for this folder' or something. Same thing with W4A files and Mp3s. Cant understand it. Getting v. annoyed now....

I'm having a problem downloading ringtones from Vodafone live. After the progress bar fills to 100% I get the error message Unable to Install Invalid Descriptor. Any ideas?

One of the best features i like on phones are the alarms. This phone is the worst piece of crap ever for alarms. 1. needs to be switched on to work 2. can't adjust volume - will wake you up and give you a heart attack. The alarm is louder than the top volume on the ring. Does not make sense. 3. Sometimes doesn't work, found this out when i slept in by an hour and was late for work. Everything else on the phone is ok. It should be worth noting my last samsung alarms did the oppisite to the above 3 points so it looks like a retard developed the alarm function.

my Z500 is branded TIM..how can i debrand it? how can i restore the original samsung settings?will it ruin my phone if i do it bcoz so far it's not giving me any problem.. i just want to change the skins sometimes & the TIM settings dont allow it..anyone plss..i need genuine & helpful answers...

GAZ I've had 5 sonyericssons and all have had hardware and software problems. All of them have had to be returned within the first 3 weeks of me owning them. I won't be getting another one. Its not surprising that they are so well known for being the most unreliable of phones. All the samsungs that i've owned have been trouble free.

Sony Ericsson is sh*t..samsung Z500 is better than any SE phones ryt now, including K750i & W800..user interface of those phones are crap..resolution, despite claiming 262k colors is sh*t..samsung Z500 beats them in screen display hands down..they just have better camera & that's it..u r so stupid if u will a buy a phone bcoz of the camera..no phone, not even W800 & K750i is btter than a digicam..

hey, im trying to get my phone connected to the pc so i can transfer pics and mp3's but it doesnt seem to be working. ive installed all of the drivers and pc suite on to my pc from the cd. ive then gone onto the pc suite but most things are faded out so i cant click on them, ive went into help and it says wen i first loaded it up it should have asked for registration n stuff but it never. does ne1 have annything i can try, instructions or something???

To A CARROLL. Re. opening your photo texts! You need to ring Vodafone 191 and ask them to allow this on your phone or you'll have to go to website each time to view your pictures.

i had this phone for a week and could not wait to get shot of it . nice wee but samsung did not put a lot of thought into battery consumption..sony ericsson is far better i got 2 full days with the sony v600i with loads of calls and downloaded 4 or five video s . the samsung could not do that . v600i rules......... 3g at the min.. k608 . k600 depends what network you go for..

I've now had the phone for just over a week. In my opinion.....its great. Very small, easy to use, once you've mastered the menus. Battery life has got better, especially after following a tip on here... a)settings b)connectivity c)network settings d)network mode and e)select GSM 900/1800 rather than automatic. It made loads of difference...

What is everybody talking about time switching. In the"TIME & DATE" menu you can mark 2 options all at the bottom. UK summer time and Auto update. Unmark this and there is no problem with time switching on my phone....great phone lovin' it!!!!

Also... (im on vodafone) why cant I change the theme? Vodafone live doesnt seem to support themes for z500 yet, neither does the samsung website. So I'm stuck with the four rubbish ones supplied? Also - if I want to use a pic, photo etc. the theme shows behind. Can I just switch the theme off completely?

Go to settings, connectivity, network settings, network mode, and change from auto to GSM 900/1800. Improved signal strength and battery life. I am have major problems dowloading music - can get mp3s but most of my music is in M4A - and stoopid pc studio says its not a sound file...when it clearly is. Anyone overcome this?

TO JAMES I have the transflash card in mine. I bought a 256 MB and have stored some of my MP3's on it. I then added them to the Play List on the phone and it works fine. The only probs I'm having is with the stupid clock and alarm!

Well, both me and my hubby have this z500 and after having it for just over a week now we are both unimpressed with it. There is a definite problem with the clock and alarm and the battery life is poor. we are going back to Phones 4U this morning to try to get a replacement handset. we like the size of this phone and have always found Samsung to be a very reliable company but this time they seem to have made a blooper! I hope the next handset's software is a marked improvement otherwise we will be changing to a different make altogether. A real disappointment up to now.

does anybody use transflash card on his phone? coz i inserted d micro-SD card from motorola E398 but it cant open d file..it can only read d memory but cant open d memory card..i was wondering if there's a way to store files to the memory card & use it like d internal memory..it seems like it's only a back-up file to the huge 55MB internal memory..hope im wrong coz i want to store more MP3s in my phone..and can it accomodate 256MB?anybody plssssssss......tnx..

Hi all I work for a company that repairs samsungs gsm's in holland. The battary time is a problem when you use your cam to call it uses something like 0,5 m amps, it will only give you an hour or so on a full battery, samsung is awer of this problem and is working on the problem. I have one myself and have problems with internel clock, but it was repaired by a software upgrade. Still a graght fone

To Z500 RULES. Re. battery time, I'm prob getting a couple of days out of it. Not brilliant compared with the D500 which at the moment is my favourite! But unfortunately the D500 isn't 3G so hence the reason why I opted for the Z500.

z500 is a grate phone.i had the e720 but it isn't that fast just like the z500 anyhow i need to ask some questions.... 1. can you change the skin color (bars of the top and bottom of the screen)??? 2. is there anyway you could make the volume louder because whenever it rings or use the mp3 the sound or volume isn't that satisfying??? i would appreciate your reply. thanks

Both me and my husband got the Z500 last week on Vodafone. I'm not yet connected as I'm waiting for my number to be ported so can1t really comment on phone performance but my husband is having probs with the alarm not going off when it should. I told him to take sim and battery out and it fixed it temporarily! I think he's going to get the handset swapped over though as there is obviously a software fault. Incidentally, the message from Z500 RULES sent on the 13th Aug, What does the code mean and what does it do? Thanks

this is "The Phone"..glad i opted for this one than E730/E720..everything is great.with a memory card slot,i can use this as a fully functional MP3 player..but i have to buy a card first coz d package doesnt hav one.. Mini Cons : No Skins, takes some time to send an SMS.. Advantage over E720/E730/D500 : 3G Phone with secondary VGA Camera, Memory Card, Infrared (over E720/E730), Speakerphone (Over E720) The video is only 176 X 144 (unlike E720's 352 X 288)..It doesnt have external keys coz it will ruin d design.I find this more appealing than E720 w/ external buttons for MP3. I've had the Z500 for a couple of days now. First impressions are...excellent. The menu's are a bit quirky, especially if you are used to Nokia, however thats not a reason not to get one! Its very small for a 3G phone. If you want a good digital camera...buy one...its a phone! I will post some more feedback once I've used it a bit more. (And also tell you how the battery lasts. So far, its been left on standby and had a couple of calls etc, but the battery is still shows full charge.

The battery life on my Z500 is far from shocking. It easily lasts one day with heavy use, and quite frankly that is good enough for me. With average use it'll last 2 days. Awesome little phone - it's great!!

Had alarm prob on vodafone as well. Took the battery/sim out and it fixed itself.

yes there is a problem with the alarms, the clock jumping back and then after a while returning to correct time could be the cause. im with vodafone and was told could be a software prolem, sent phone back and got replacement handset, see if this bug has been fixed

I have put the samsung pc studio software onto my phone, and the top box shoes my computers files...but it doesnt seem to recognise my phone, and it is connected. the bottom box is empty. argggh help me please

Both z500 and z300 have qcif video recording, only d600 and e720 is known to have higher resolution. But that's samsung's mistakes to leave such a feature out of those "business" phones.

delivered phone five days ago. features great,well made,neat and tiny, battery is crap,today it did nine hours with only two two minute calls,this is because its a bad recieving area and it runs battery down, reception is really poor and distorts and drops calls bad. before i have had a nokia 8100 great,then a 6600 big but top tool.this samsung.overall poor,battery life and signal are a major thing. its going back.and i`m going back to nokia ged

I've had this phone for about three weeks now and there are some good point but some very bad points which after a while really wind you up. I agree with Newcomer, my phone makes it's own mind up whether it wants to wake me up in the morning or not. Some days it alarms, some days it just choses not to. (my boss has the same problem with hers) I also agree that the texting is fiddley. You have to press the different buttons far to many times just to send a simple text. The photo and display quality are very good and the phones fetures are excellent.. it's like a mini, hand held computer. You can move files and set up options that I've never been able to do with other phones. I also agree that the external MP3 controls of the E720 would have been a great idea on the Z500 as to would the flash. Apparently (or so my local O2 shop tell me) dispite the fact O2 are selling 3G capable phones, the network does not yet support 3G.. which is the stupidest thing I've heard! So I can't say anything about the video calling quality as I've not tried it. I'd appreciate it if anyone who is on O2 could let me know if they CAN use video calling.. coz that just means that O2 have lied there ass off to me.) In General though the phone looks great and has some very cool features. It has the latest technology and so you can be sure that in 3 months time everyone will be horrified that they are not able to video call you just because you opted for the E720 rather than this model. The phone in genaral is a good buy and so as long as the above don't really wind you up (they annoy the hell out of me) you will LOVE the Z500.

ok i've had this phone on Vodafone for over a week now and as a phone its not too bad. Having said that my clock has today lost 20 minutes :( Anyway good points - its small also does 3g, it'll ring and vibrate at the same time, err well its got no external aerial... Bad points - using vodafone live 3g tends to drain the battery, especially downloading film trailers! The font size is just too damm big (are all samsungs like this?) Sending texts requires just to many button presses. Its os isn't the best of designs. One other thing is voda's 3g network itself - unless your within half a mile from the transmitter the signal is rubbish, but at least there is the option in network settings to force the phone only to use 900/1800 networks. Conclusion - its not a rubbish phone but probally a better choice than a e720, unless you need a flash and external mp3 controls.
