I can't download any thing in this phone using I-mode. dear jyoti i am from bangladesh as well .. nd bought this phone 8 mnths back .. but the sad story is.. i spent alll da money frm my 1st salary to buy this shit.. this is a phone wth thousand troubles. u can find newer troubles every day.. trouble in music player.. it can not play WMA file.. u can not set ringtone or alarm until it is converted to aac file.. trouble in INTERNET .. u dnt hv any operator in BD can provide internet to this phn as it is an I-mobile.. so no point to get mig33 or opera mini so i am really really dis appointed.. really .. i hav to change it or in no time i will throw it to garbage busket:| best of luck wth ur phn dear..

Sarah just select the music u want to use as a ringtone. Use options and u can set it as a ringtone. Even select it for a group or single user.

hello, i bought the fone a week back. but i am having this issue with it .. that ... wehn i copy mp3 songs or jpg/gif images into the 1GB memory card, in windows folder it shows that all of that has been copied to card. but when i disconnect the card into insert into the fone, it only only shows nomore then 7 tracks and a few images ... i dunt kow why ... it does the same when i connect the phone using the Samsung PC studio software. very nice looking phone,stylish.Slide mechanism is smooth.Good 2mpx camera but useful only for photo shoots,video is not so good unless you plan to watch it only at your phones display. Not easy to keep it clean cause even if you think to touch it you'll leave a fingerprints all over it.Mms and 3g are very likely not available if your company doesn't supports i-mode phones. I was able to set only the parameters for internet but not for mms and 3g.

Samsung have announced their new phone which is due to come out in December or early next year. The Samsung SGH-Z650i is a Tri band GSM phone plus it supports the UMTS 2100 Mhz network. The phone weighs about 94 grams and measures close to 102 x 52 x 16 mm. The Samsung SGH-Z650i is a pretty nice looking slider phone and is decent in size too. to Martin, yes u can use a 2GB card, i am using one & it works fine. to Dannela, Marko & others, to put your own MP3 as a ring tone u have to convert it to AAC format. go to PC Studio then "transfer files", select a song & choose the option convert to aac or u can simply downlode an aac converter if PC Studio doesnt work for u(like mine), so here's a link or hope that helps Ratib BD

Answering to sb about the sound: if you intend to use your mobile as an mp3-player, go for sony-ericsson. Samsung's sound is very poor, especially on loudspeaker. I suggest you go for a sony, and especially a walkman phone. My previous mobile was W550i and it has the best sound I've ever heard, with 2 loudspeakers.

Well I do like this phone I have after reading lots on hear sorted out my mp3 to aac ringtones - and am very happy that I now have chasing Cars as my ringtone - the only other question I really have with regard to tones is the text message tone - can you convert this as you had to do from mp3 to aac so you can choose your own tone rather than the ones that Samsung have provided? I noted that somebody else has also asked this question, but I have not been able to spot a response. Yes the touch buttons can be rather annoying I also must admit - but apart from that I am stoked. I bought the phone from a guy at work brand new and am using a Tesco pay & go sim card, unable to send MMS and connect to the internet. Tried a O2 sim thinking the Tesco sim was the problem but the O2 card was the same. Are these phones locked to a specific sim card? the guy from work got it as a free upgrade, maybe its locked to his sim card and his alone?

If you get error messages when sending MMS, you'll need to call O2 to make sure your iMode APN has been provisioned. iMode phones do *everything* via iMode, so just make sure it's active. On the memory card front: how many GB can this take? Can it take more than 1GB? 2GB OR 4GB for example?

To all of you that have problems with setting the mp3's as ringtones, people have answered it at least ten times in this forum. Why don't you read first before you go on whining? It's quite simple, PC Studio does everything. You don't need to download anything or do anything else. Just connect the phone to the pc, open PC Studio and Transfer files, then find the song you want, and choose the option Convert to aac. It should be on the top menu somewhere, and if not, you can right-click on the song and do it. You can even convert videos and movies to mp4 format and play them. I have loaded a video clip and it plays fine. To the guy that asked about the memory card, I have installed a 1 Gb card, and the phone works fine. You can load songs or videos there, add them to the playlist, etc. It's great, I recommend it.

To convert your music files to aac (yes, aac takes up much less space), go to and download dBpowerAMP Music Converter. After installing the application, go to and download the following codecs mp4 & AAC Decoder Pystel mp4 Encoder FAAC mp4 Encoder AAC Codec (The others are optional, but this ons is required to convert to aac) AAC >> Mp4 & Mp4 >> AAC Codec After downloading and installing these, open the music converter and choose the files to convert. Then choose "Advanced Audio Coding" codec and choose a quality setting. The settings "Radio, Tape, Internet, etc." are variable bit rate options. You can choose a fixed bit reat as well, but VBR takes up less space. I convert all of my mp3s higher than 96 kbps to "Tape" bit rate. There is no significant quality change and the size is usually the half of the original mp3 file, depending on the length and the bitrate of the song. However, it's best if you try different settings and compare their sound quality and size yourself. For some reason, some of the songs can't be converted using the AAC codec. In that case, I convert that song to mp4 using one of the mp4 encoders and after that I use "AAC >> Mp4 & Mp4 >> AAC Codec" to convert them to aac. I'm not making two conversions, though. aac and mp4 formats are actually the same, but they have some identification differences and this codec changes the identification of an mp4 file to an aac file and it only takes a second or so.

Making the signal work i got the samsung z650i yesterday and i charged it and there was no signal for hours, so what i did was went to settings, and then scrolled down to master reset and typed in the password (which for o2 ppl is 00000000) and then i think the phone had to reboot itself, of turned off and i turned it back on. from then, the signal has been fine *touch wood!* You could try this and see if it works! but its really also annoying how you can't see the time or if u have any messages/missed calls on ur phone when it is closed! anyone know how to change this ?!?!?!?

I got my samusung z650i in febuary for my birthday. Its aload of rubbish i was gona get the Sony ericcison cybershot instead but 02 insisted i got the samsung. They said it was a better phone so on my birthday i found out wat a load of rubbish. The only way to get a gd ringtone is to put a video into your playlist on the media player and click play then go to options whiile your playing it and it should say set as then you set it as something. I h8 this fone and because im on a contract ive gota wait till february again till i can get a new 1 im SO ANOYED

You can set mp3s as ringtones. When you install the software and put an mp3 on the phone, put it in the 'ringtones' folder on your phone, then you are set to go. Easy as pie!

When the phone is closed the screen goes blank and it is impossible to see if you have a message or missed call at a glance unless you open it. Is there any way of changing this? ta

Another update... Sending sms is an aweful pain... Once again, if you compare this to most other big brands you will see that there is no shortcut for recently or commonly used contacts... The phone would be great if you were interested in often doing broadcast text messages, but for the regular person who has a close friend list of 10-20 this is stupid. You always have the option to make up groups, but who could really be bothered doing this? I am getting more and more upset every day with this phone. G

I just bought this phone. I bought it after finding the effectiveness of the stereo (bluetooth 2) streaming feature.. Many other phones have this, but i have tried alot and samsung seems to work the best for my car stereo... Anyway, This does work great, but the overall phone is absolutely garbage because it lacks so many features which i just assumed an standard modern phone would have... All the kind of stuff which is in every Nokia and sonyericsson. 1stly, this phone (and apparently all samsung phones) do not have an auto pairing bluetooth feature. This means that for all of you who use hands-free or headsets, you will have to manually accept pairing every time you use the phone/headset. This is very annoying and boring, particularlly because its standard on just about all other brands. Most good phones pair as soon as your in proximity. 2ndly. The media Player is an absolute JOKE. there are 2 things which once again are standard on most other phones... If you want to listen to a song which is on your memory card (which is where most poeple will store their music) you cannot simply open the media player, but you have to naviate through the folders, to a special folder call "memory card" then to music, then to any album.. then tell it to open in the media player... the only files which are shown in the media player are the ones ON the phone.;.. very clunky and very non-user friendly... But thats not even the worst of it. If you are listening to a song and have to pause and return to menu (i.e. send message etc), the phone will compleetely forget everything.. it wont remember the song, the album, the folder or the place in the song that you were listening... so essentially, you will have to naviate through the clunky and slow menu to find the folder and song and fast foward to the point you were listening to EVERY single time you send a message... (so yeah, no messaging while listening to music either)... The other thing is the touch buttons... I really thought these would be cool when i was about to get it (the mates phone i tried hhad them and it was great for music playing... but this phone has them all squished up (no i don't have monster fingers)... So, if your listening to music and accidentally hit hang-up, you will have to go back through all the menu to start again!!! very annoying!. Regards, G

Hi guys, it really is a very nice phone, but there are a couple of problems that I can't find the answer to. I'd appreciate it if someone could help me. First, I'm with O2 (UK), and I can't switch off the 3G network, so the battery disappears within a day or so. Does anybody know if you can turn it off when you want to? Is it a phone thing, or a network thing? Second, can you change the music format to .mmf (the one the phone uses for the sms), so that you can choose the tone of the sms? make sure the song you want is in your i tunes library,right click on the song you want,select the convert to aac,i tunes will now convert the song you have chosen,now you will see two of the same song in your i tunes library,select the one with the little speaker icon next to it,this file will be the converted song. now make a new folder in your computer name it samsung aac files{thats what i called it.its up to you}.right click on the song again in i tunes,copy n paste into your new folder..i used a bluetooth usb device to transfer those songs to my phone...in your phone go to settings and change your ringtone there.the song you sent to your phone should be there to select as a tone....good luck ozzie

yes there are touch sensitive buttons,these buttons have various uses when you are in different functions on the phone or playing music..can be a pain if you have big hands like me..but still a sexy stylish phone...

I have heard alot of people say that this phone "does" have touch sensitive features similar to the E900, I was hoping someone could clarify this for me.... With the E900 and the Z560 there are dedicated touch-screen buttons for the media player... these are the important ones... are they here?? or are the touch sensitive buttons people are talking about simply the 4 buttons around the dial? finally got my ringtones changed...used i.tunes to convert to aac file..then went into phone option and it allowed me to select it as ringtone..and my alarm settings too...very happy..thanks ppl

Hi all, I've seen quite a few questions how to set up your own message alret tone, but no answers? Is it really not possible to resolve?? Surely there must be a solutions - the phone tones are sooo bad!! Also, do all your batteries last no longer than 2-3 days? Suppose to be 200h! Apart from that, my Z650i is perfect:)

to hannah..if u have already converted your songs to aac file and sent them to ur phone,go into your phone profile and select to change your ringtone...if you have converted it should show the songs...i found going into file manager,ringtones,it would not allow,but it did in phone profile...try that m8

to kimberley...after i converted my songs to aac format.i used a bluetooth usb device to send to my phone,found the samsung software disc a bit too confusing,so if u can get a blue tooth device i would advice this method...it does work m8....

i am gettin really frustrated with the mp3 ringtone thing! iv transferred the songs i want as ringtones to acc using itunes. no i dont know how to get them from my computer onto my phone! could someone please lead me through the software intallation part as i dont have a clue! i would be so grateful. thanks.

well all you have to do when you want some ringtones it cute the song down into atleast max of 20 secs. and then you can use it as a ringtone. i have samsung and i really want this one but yeah thats what yours suppose to do when you want to convert songs into ringtone.

Hey, i just got this phone on contract. i have to say its a great phone. Im normally into Nokia's thats the phone im use to but decided to give this ago and its great. One problem im still having is putting my mp3's ase my ringtone. I have tryed converting it to ACC all that but for some reason it doesnt allow me to do it still. ive tried to set message alert tones,but to no avail,but for me thats not a problem,still a great phone..didnt find sending text messages that time consuming.once you have had the phone awhile,you will love it..i love my z650iii do.

Hi everybody, just got this phone today and I can say that I'm happy with it (consider that I've already have a D900... the best) the only thing that makes me mad is that in no way I can set my mp3s as ringtone! it was so easy with the d900! and also... he does not recognize the files I use to have in my 1G memory card.... so weird! Could someone tell me how to do step by step? Please HELP

ok finally got mp3 ringtones working thanks ozzie so yeh it isnt mp3 ringtones its m4a or AAC ie itunes comverted also just so u all know i can set tones in my music folder as ringtones not just tones in the ringtones folder just make sure u go to settings>profiles and choose it from there instead of from set as ringtone

No need to change the mp3 file format in anyway just simpky move the song you want as a ringtone from the music foler to the ringtones folder. easily done.

It is NOT officially possible to install java MIDlets on samsung handsets (excluding smartphones) via bluetooth, IrDa, USB cable or serial cable. MIDlets can only be downloaded by Over-The-Air (OTA) via a download server. There is currently no method for installing MIDlets on other platforms other than by OTA/GPRS via a download server.

listen , you don't need a FM radio on a phone, you have a MP3 player on it, and its no big deal, samsung are second in the mobile market and they don't need any advice from people in these opinion pages! Here is my attempt to answer some of your questions... The camera does indeed have a flash...this is not set as 'on' automatically, so where you fill you need to use it, you either switch in on via the menu on the right touchkey or by pressing #. Its not as great as the xenon flash on the Sony Ericsson K800 but who cares. I have, and most people have digital cameras these days. If I want to take print quality photos I'll use my digital camera...not my mobile phone. Besides the flash on the Z650i is pretty much as good as the flashes on most other mobile phones. Next up...the ringtone issue. There are seperate folders for each category of file(music, video, etc)which is used for the purpose as of the name of the folder Sounds confusing? It's not. Basically you just need to put the music file you wish to use as a ringtone into the 'ringtones' file. I have noticed that some MP3 files don't always get recongised. This maybe an error with the phones firmware - hopefully an update will be provided soon. Want my advice? use AAC. Works everytime and requires less storeage. Just remember to pop it into the ringtones section if need be. You the samsung software for this, it allows you to convert files VERY easily before uploading to your phone. The phone does indeed have touch sensitive buttons. Looks great - feels great - Greatly annoying. Unfortunately the cancel botton is very easily hit, and when it does it finishs what you're doing and exits straight to the mainscreen. Unless you're in a program which requires authorisation prior to closing. This isn't really an answer to any queries but I thought I'd share with you my thoughts re: the fm radio. It would appear samsung have NO intention of putting one in any of their handsets. I'm not stupid enough to take any phone apart myself, but I have a friend who is. It would appear most samsung phones are so slim and small because features are literally crammed in. The Z650i is no expection to the rule, it would of been a stuggle for the designers to squeexe a radio receiver into the handset. I don't think its a major issue though. It would've been nice don't get me wrong, but FM personal radios are not expensive and as they are dedicated they're always going to be far superior to a radio on any phone. Hopefully GSM arena will give provide one of their mega-reviews soon, in the meantime I'll try to pop on and answer any more questions people have.

i dont believe putting fm radio necessarily means more bulk...sony ericsson and nokia incorporate it into all their phones but you cant quite say these phones aree bulky. Check the w830,w850,k750,w800,w810,. s for nokia check 5500 sport, 61631,6136, 6125. none of these phones are 'bulky' as some people are trying to say. Samsung would realise more sales if they put fm radio in their handsets, rather than release an endless line of fones with little difference from the other! I got an E770, but am waiting for the next one with FM radio, EDGE, 2mpxl camera or more, TV output, document viewer, mp3player with no limit on playlists and of course, not wider than 47mm!

Samsung did a decent job with this phone, I think. It has 3G unlike the little more interesting looking KE 600 from LG. But appears less exotic and high-end as the Hero from Helio. Nevertheless, This is probably my next phone. - Unless the Hero comes to Canada or the new iPhone from Apple appeals me more.
