"Object of Desire" ? Well that's what Sendo calls the M550, its latest mid-range model. Believe me when I say that for a model of its kind, they're not far from the truth! The sleek little handset became my companion for 2 weeks, and even though I had done my "homework" by reading up on it, its appearance when I unwrapped the standard kit from the British company was more than impressive. The little handset has full support for EMS and SMS Chat, a lot of personalization combos, themes, and impressive 16 tone melodies. More than enough for a young inexperienced user who prefers easy, portable, and entertaining connectivity without the high tech features and services. Physical Characteristics and Display. The Sendo M550 is not an elaborated handset, yet still impressive. Primarily designed to meet the needs of demanding youth, or those wishing to reclaim their youth, it features a folder type design, chrome materials, smooth feeling, and complete lack of an external antenna - all of combined into a mere 82 x 45 x 20mm package. With the flip closed, the tiny handset is about the size of an average credit card, fitting in almost any kind of pocket - no matter how small it may be. Additionally, with a weight that barely reaches 77g and only 68cc of volume, it really boasts of portability, ease of use, and risk free transportation. On the outside, the most impressive feature of the M550 is its inverted, dark sub display. With an active resolution of 96x64 pixels, excellent lighting, and an impressive font, it's going to be your only way of communication with the handset when the latter is flip closed. It displays the signal indicator, battery level, the name of the network you're using, the time and date, incoming calls, and messages with animated pictures as well as other alerts. Just as any good display would. The only problem is that there is no way of checking the sub-display at night, since it only lights up when you flip the folder open or when a message or call arrives. There are no buttons on the exterior of the phone at all, not even volume controls. Unfortunately the M550 also lacks an IrDA port and does not even have a serial communication port on the bottom of the phone. The handset that Sendo offered to me came with a stylish black cover, one of the six that the British company offers as accessories to its users, suitable for every occasion or taste. You can choose from a collection of Blue, Red, Black, Green, Turquoise, or Purple colors that really can make your Sendo look more youth-oriented or trendy. For those more demanding users, there's a vast selection of accessories, such as handsfree headsets, extra batteries, car kit chargers, etc. Talking about charging, the only input to this phone was its 2.5 mm jack that is suitable not only for charging the phone but for the use with a headset, in case you need to free your hands. Nothing more...nothing less.

I too have a Sendo M550 and agree with all the comments it is a fabulous phone, the very best. However, I have misplaced the user manual and appear to have a capital G along side the battery picture on the screen, as this has appeared the volume has also diminished, without the manual I can't get rid of the G I am sure when I can the volume will return, can anyone out there help me. I have loaned the phone to my husband whilst he is in hospital, he is very mobile phone un-friendly and seems to have messed up my phone please help! thanks

Fabulous little phone! OK, it's discontinued now, but I got mine, oh, it must be over 5 years ago, and I have wanted no other phone since I got it. It is smaller than most phones today, it is easy to use, it has lovely "themes" (visual displays), and super little pictures that you can use on the screen or send to people. Mine has never gone wrong (it is small but sturdily built), and it charges quickly and keeps its charge well. Wonderful thing!

My first phone. What I liked about it was the design, the fact that I could write an SMS without looking at the keypad (buttons are well spaced), the nice to hear ringtones, the themes and the "Splat" game and the pretty good resolution. The downsides were: the bigger the sms was, the more it would lag with text input (from sms no. 2-3), the lack of MMS and the not very impressive battery life (4 days standby), the clamshell that broke after 10 months and the low speed WAP. By the way, it supports .mmf sound files, like some older Samsung phones. Some may also contain voice, but there's a file size limit... Unfortunately, it seems a bit sensitive. Mine stopped working probably because of a little bit of water getting in it... (I dropped it on thin snow)

I've had this phone for three years. Given it a heck of a hard time but no problems whatsoever. Brilliant - does what it is. Small, light, goodlooking, phone. No daft camera/bluetooth to go wrong. If you want a phone, buy a phone. If you want a camera, buy a camera.

i love this phone. mine(N3650) got stolen so i used this phone that my mom used as a backup phone and i love it! the tunes are not boring at all! very stylish and most of all not all people know how to use the phone so hardly anybody can use it without my permission! (ha!) love it! its just that when my dad bought me a pda, he gave this phone away to my cousin, so... but hey! this is a great phone! if i'll be given a chance to have this one again, i'll definitely grab that chance!

Just posted a comment about my new Motorola W375 (not very good), so I thought I'd post one about this phone, which I have had for a few years and is far far better than my new Moto! This Sendo is tiny and fits anywhere, it has plenty of space for extra ringtones (poly not MP3), and it is easy to use. Bad points are the keys aren't that easy to see as they are small and the letters are illuminated pale green on silver (OK if you use it more than I do and can remember what's where, I suppose). No camera/bluetooth/whatever, but as this is an old style phone that's no problem. Wonderful things are that it has many completely different display themes you can choose from, a lot of ringtones and you can download more, and it shows stuff on the external screen (date, time and messages received, but that is more than my new Moto can do!). Main problem with mine is that it takes ages to start up lately and says "loading try later" when I try to send a message, but I think that's just because I have too many numbers programmed into it, it didn't do it when I had less. Oh - one more thing - if you DO have trouble with ringtones, get in touch with the ringtone site and tell them what camera you have, as they might need to alter the tune for the phone to accept it. I did this ages ago and the site said the Sendo is different from most other phones! On the whole though I would say this this is an EXCELLENT little phone and if you can still get them, buy one!

It's a gr8 phone. Been using it for 3 yrs now. A little slow at starting wen u press the on button n it does'nt com wid many features (i.e. no blue tooth, camera or radio) but the screens very colourful, the phone is incredibly small and light and aesthetically pleasing. Plus it comes with the game splat!

Hi, I've been using this phone a while and now I cannot sent texts or phone at all - it just says try again. What looks like a 'G' with a score through it is at the top of the main screen which isnt normally and im not sure what this means - hunting for manual to no avail... anyone got any ideas? cheers.

I got this phone a year ago...still going strong. Bad points first : 1) flimsy construction...creaks when you press it. 2) Next to no features more than the classic Nokia 5110 in the 90s. Good points: 1) very light, very small. 2) awesome battery...goes on and on. 3) very stylish phone indeed. Bottom line, if you just need a basic phone for calling and smsing...this is as good as it can get.

I have this Sendo for a while, more than 3 years. At the beginning it faild twice on reading messagens, but as it was on the warranty period, the reset the software free of charge. Since last software everything goes fine. Small and Cute phone. I like it.

I loved this phone. My older sister gave it to my for my birthday and i thought it was wicked. It is simple, no camera, no bluetooth... but it is a good trustworthy phone! The polyphonic ringtones didnt sound like normal polyphonic ringtones on my phone (im not sure if other have this too), but it sounded better to me. I would go back to my sturdy sendo anyday! PS: I dont have it now because the pin of the charger my sister gave me got stuck in the charger hole and snapped in half and we couldnt get it out :(

i havent had the phone for long (about 1 hour) but if u want some advice candystripe buy a signal booster it cost about 20ponds but i think u could use it

A nicely designed cheap compact and basic wee phone. Is still going after 2 years, even after falling and smashing to bits several times including lying in the rain! Tho it is starting to freeze up occasionally. Only major gripe is poor signal reception. It has a tendancy to lose my O2 signal (even on manual settings) in areas where other mobiles do not.

Well it was an ok phone but lasted me for barely a year with alot of problems. It got scractched very easily and the flip got a bit slow when i flipped it up and the inbox stopped working, it just came up with a message saying "try again" every time

I bought on Ebay unlocked for $35. Thats so cheap. The only flaw I have is that there is no headset jack. It uses an odd mini jack for charging but no head phone jack or speaker phone. Other than that it last for a long charge and has bright colors and the necessary functions.

okay it looks good. there r 2 beastly games. the texting on it is easy. but now iv had it for 2 years the 'flippy' bit has kind of separated so now the screen doesnt always work so im going to get a different phone soon. but the sendo is cute, not always reliable and can get slightly boring because it has no camera but i love it as my first phone. the keys dont always work now as well

A wonderful little phone precisely if that's all you're looking for - a phone. Light, cheap, a simple and intuitive interface combined with a clear colour screen. However, the one major problem I had with mine (and I appreciate this doesn't necessarily make it a design flaw) was occasional problems with the screen(s); presumably due to it being a on-the-cheaper-side flip-lid handset. Before I bought an upgrade it worked more than satisfactorily. A Good buy!

I like this phone because he isn't big, it's cheap and you get a phone that does the normal things like calling and sms! The keys aren't that respontives as mentioned but it isn't anoying once you're used to it! If have no regrets buying this phone! And after 1 year it still works perfect even fater intensive use and multiple falls! Conclusion: cheap but the quality is ok!!

got one for my birhtday 2 years ago. Looks great, is cheap and stays together after constant drops. However, the flip doesnt work anymore (the sensor broke) i cant hear people talk in conversations, the key response is slow, there is not a choice in sms alert tones, and the screen has lines across, getting a 6230i for xmas instead

quite sturdy; my M55o feel into the pool once and was in there for 20minutes, its 6months after and i'm still using it. the silver around the edge peels tho also takes a while to start up.

Ive had the M550 for 1 and half years, and im still getting people telling me how nice it looks! Great looking phone, but if u want loads of features like camera etc, then its not for u. I bought it for �70! back in early 2004, bargin! only drawback is that the reflective silver on the sides does scratch easily. I think u can only buy it second hand now, so if u want a phone that will make all other big brand phones look ugly at a low price go for this one. p.s. i was thinking of sanding the silver sides down to the white underneath to give it an ipod look, anyone else tried this? Ive got the silver/grey one, and right now its silver with white blothes, lol.

had mine since christmas 2004 had its been repaired once already due to faults and i am disgusted with the phone and the o2 network, one reason being the limit of credit being �10 when every other network allows �5 also had problems when credit hasn't been forwarded to my phone until two days later which is very inconvenient especially when i've payed for it!

Hi Toni - Send it back. Great phone but if your M550 display screen flashes or goes off as you hold it or flip the display, send it back - it's faulty. It's caused by the faulty flip button just above green menu button - I took mine apart and removed the button so the phone doesn't shut down when closed it just times out. I didn't want to send it back and be without the phone coz it fits in my pocket!

A great starter phone for everyone. I have had it for over a year and a half and am still enjoying the compact size and lightness of it. The bad things are that finding download sites for getting ringtones and games is a challenge and it does not have camera or bluetooth. But it is still a lovely phone with loads of character.

This is my second Sendo phone, my first being an S200. I have found both to be very reliable, small and efficient. There are no fancy gadgets but if you just want a simple, easy to use and reliable phone this is the one for you.

This phone is perfect for people who just need to make calls & send texts. I've had one on O2 for over a year & haven't had a single problem with it. I have a 3G phone now but still use the M550 occasionally when I go out as it's so small.

i had this phone for about 8 months and eventually got fed up of its unreliability. i received many texts in random symbols, it crashed when i received calls, and both the screens sometimes froze completely. the phone book takes a-g-e-s to load, as does the inbox. the only two good things about this phone are the design and the cute music that comes on when you play splat! :p seriously, you can get way better phones for the same money - sendo m550 is really nothing to shout about.

I hav thrown this phone and droped it loads and it still works! it haS no excitin features but it makes calls and sends texts. I have had this phone for a year and a bit - am getting a new one soon. I found it to be a great lil phone - but the screen freezes occasionally. Oh, an for every1 who cant get the / and the & up you have to hold down the # key. Then move down to the row you want and press the number underneath the symbol. And for missed calls, and last calls, press the 'up' arrow when you are on the normal screen. The only reason i am getting a new phone is because i am a shallow teenager who wants a camera phone - i would not give it up otherwise. O, and for the poster who coodnt find any other colours - me neither - i settled for blue. Anyone that needs help feel free to email me at [email protected] - although im young i really can help. (the other bummer is the lack of downloadable games and ringtones, and it does scratch easily). GREAT PHONE THO, really stylish.

K, you might not want to hear this but if people still wanna klnow what the NCK code is its because you've bought an uncompatiable SIM card, If you Buy your phone from 02 then you HAVE to use an 02 Sim card.. The only way to get out of this (I think) is to pay 02 (or other Provider) and pay them about �20.. Sorry, I cant be of more help!!!So, bascally if yourphone came with a sim card then put that one in!!! (oh, andif anyone has the NCK code for 02.. GIVE IT TO MEEEE!! PLEASE !!!

i have it since may 2004. the only thing is that i am in Bulgaria and the phone first was coded and on the dispaly there is still the O2 logo. it has that disgusting bug- many times when i want to make a call it gives Not Available and i have to switch it off and then on...

you can get ringtones from the sendo website if you go to it using wap. The site is wap.sendo.com and you go to m550 ring tones. You obviously dont know what you are talking about.

I've had my Sendo M550 for two days. The menu is dreadful; it's very easy to get stuck in a loop. Maybe i need to work my way round that but it shouldnt be possible in a modern mobile. I had a missed call, but the display dint say from whom - i had to flog through the menu before i discovered that. It looks a great little phone, although with a limited number of built-in ringing tones.

Very nice phone. The only negative is the keypad because the letterings are very hard to make out. Also, it would be handy if there was a way to reject calls without having to open the phone. These two things stop this phone from being the easiest to use. It's a shame because it's a great no fuss design. The software is a bit primitive but fine for the basics of making receiving a call. Single key access to the contact list is good, and something I wish all other handset makers would adopt.

This phone is'nt the best i've seen. There is supposed to be 4 games on it and theres only three, one of which you can only play with someone else who has the same phone. You cant download games, recieve picture messages and any ringtones you recieve you cant send them out to your friends. I wouldnt reccomend it due to the lack of facilities it provides.

This phone is great, only it misses some features like: Java, Bluetooth, and Downloadable games, and a Camera. Rather then that it still is an Mid-End Phone Class, so i like this one... Before i brought this phone, i was considering of buying The Soney Ericsson T230 (�99 Euro here in The Netherlands) and The M550 (�129 Euro). Overall a Good phone with rich polyphonic (16 Tone) Ringtones. Good Job Sendo.

It does exactly what it needs to do... What else do you want.. It looks superb! It is the most beautiful folded phone I've ever seen. But phone's features are poor. It has no MMS support, no voice dialing and no Java support. I think these are big imperfections.
