Am trying to find a battery charger compatable with the battery used in the Sharp GX 20 phone ,with contact points at the bottom ,upper left side.My USB points are broken so I cannot charge the battery with the cable.If the charger is out of stock then I could get the USB port of the mobile Hope I get an answer to my query Thank you. You can transfer your photos from you GX20 to your PC with a Data Cable, there are none available on Ebay as far as I can see but if you Google 'Sharp Data Cables' then you sholud find an outlet who can supply you one for about £7.00. I have tried on countless occasions to transfer data via the 'Infrared' application but have never been able to get it to work. I was going to order a cable from the link below but a friend of mine found a cable tucked away in a box somewhere. How chuffed I was when I could transfer some photos that had been on my phone for 6 years....!!! Give www.freeyourmobile.com as I believe they still stock the cable you require. The 1st cable on the list is out of stock but the 3rd is exactly the same even though it doesn't say it's compatible with the GX20. Good luck man......

Can anyone help? I have this phone with the phone charger and also the USB lead..... Because my phone battery is completely dead and i cant turn it on, am i wasting my time in thinking that it will download all of the contents automatically? Hi, ive also got this phone too and ive just read your review and you said that most mobiles have internal batteries too?? Wow, i didnt know this. Ive kept this phone as i never got round to transferring all my photos off it and the battery is completely depleted :( Even though have the phone charger it still wont charge up anymore, basically i want to try and find somewhere that stocks the battery to fit this phone. Hey! To all who asked about transfer through Imfra: First of all get the software and manual from this link Then, after installing the software and ensuring that the IR is activated on your PC, go to your mobile to the Menu and Applications>PC Link>Infrared. Now just put the mobile near your IR port of the PC and kick off the GX20 handset software. From there, you will figure it out what to do as the interface is very simple and intuitive. Hope it helps.

This phone is great. I am still using my Sharp GX20 after eight years although the battery struggles to last a day on standby after an overnight charge. I only keep this phone until I can figure out how to transfer my photos off it. I have a datacable but no fully functioning software so shall try and infa-red it across to a friends phone soon. ANy advise would be greatly appreciated.

Firstly, I have had this phone (gx20i) since its first release (over 5 years). The first battery lasted a good couple of years. Then I bought another from vodaphone for less than �20 and thats still going! The phone is one of the most hard wearing i have ever used. And the screen size & quality is still better than some new "good" phones on the market. It does have predictive t9 dictionary and you CAN add your own words. You do have to read the manual to get the best out of this phone... it has features that some of the best nokias don't! Like? i hear you ask... well, the fact that you can show sim or handset numbers (or just certain groups of numbers, ie hide the ones you don't use) but recieve calls from anyone on the sim or phone book and they will still show up... so for example i use my sim for business numbers and handset for everything else(all grouped) when at work only my business numbers show up in the phone book but everyone that calls me shows up if they are in one of my 2 phone books. Hard to explain but pretty useful! The camera is still pretty awesome, with macro feature... but getting a bit sluggish by todays hi tech standards. The Screen is awesome... did I mention that?! Photos you take look great on it. No bluetooth, mp3, speakerphone (thouh there is a loudspeaker for ringtones and alarms etc - pretty loud). Good clear earpiece and signal reception. Have used this phone for roaming with vodaphone and everything switches automatically. A breeze to use abroad. Oh The gx 30 has the above lacking features.... but I tried it and sent it back. didn't like it. Irda... works fine... read the bloody manual and try the software! doh. Menus are quick. styling is/was quite ahead of time i think. Cons...MMS don't always appear to be recieved by others... this phone seems capable of sending larger files and texts than some networks can handle?! Just starting to go wrong now but that maybe due to the unlocking. But most likely due to the internal battery going. Most people forget that all phones have an internal battery that keeps the basic memory alive when your main battery is dead or removed. In my experience when that dies, most phones - all makes start to play up. esp my 6230! There's loads more to say but i could be here all day. I think carphone warehouse still have some of these! cool

Hi to all, I bought this phone from Maxis in Malaysia(Mobile network Company)when they had a promotion,With great discounts but was still expensive. I really regret every penny put into it. It is one of the worst phones I ever had and everybodoy laugh at me.I think Maxis must have bought all the defect phones from manufacturer for a bargain and sold in Malaysia for a song.... It always hangs and I have to reset it by removing the card on the phone and off again put in the sim card and on again make 2 calls and recieve one call and the hangs..and start to reset all over again. I took took to the agent who service the phone for maxis at least 4 times since i bought but the problem was never solved. It's a good phone if it doesn't hang.No parts for this phone in Malaysia,not even the battery!!! So please don't buy this phone and let your friends know about this. Thanks Mahen

For general use I cannot fault this phone, I have owned it since it was released and have found its camera to equal and even better those of newly released phones of greater value, it is extremely easy to use, how can anyone have difficulty using the infra-red to connect to computer, just go to, PC link --> Infra-red and hold the phone against the infra-red port on your PC. the only downside to this phone is the amount of memory, but for general use it works great.

My opinion of this phone, and this brand is not positive. I bought it when it first arrived in asia and was impressed with the camera and bought the phone on the spot. Silly me I think now. Whilst the camera is great there are many little function errors on this model that I've never experienced with established brands. For example you can't add your own words in the texting dictionary. it might not seem that annoying, but when you couple that to the fact that the phone is missing words that are common in the English (not slang) dictionary I get so frustrated whenever i must manually switch to non-predictive texting, input the word, and switch back. Switching between the two takes 5 keys, then 5 keys back.. 10 key strokes! The calendar is a nice feature, its easy to use but not without fault, again. You cannot set reminders. All you can do is set 'notes' for any given day and keep checking the calendar in the future to see if you have a note for the day ahead. WHAT? No alarm reminder you ask? I'd feel bad to give a one-sided review without even touching on the positives. The phone generally is quite good. The speed of the processor must be good, because there is no lag time when browsing the interface, whatsoever. the screen is fantastic and the bright flash light has helped me hike through dark trails on the mountains at night. The keys feel very good.

I Have a Sharp GX20 and I have to say that this is a very solid phone, i drop my from the 4th floor and when I picked from the road it was good as new. However is a shame that we can only use IRDA with the modem. is not easy to send our stuff to a computer. Anyway is a beatifull phone that don't give us any problem at all

if you got you sharp gx20 unlocked to 02 you wont be able to send picture messages till you text o2...if you go to the o2 site on the net they will tell you how to do it.. it is simple and easy to do

Hey ummm to the post below... You say when you send a txt it says error sending message. Ummm that happened 2 me too. Umm sometimes it happens when you're trying to send a message and someone sends u a text at the same time. Or it also happens when you're in an area that has no service. Hope this helped. I've actually had this phone 4 a long long time nd I'm so sick of it. It's like so boring now. Ummm I'm thinking of getting one with an MP3 player and video recording. The phone only has a couple of seconds video recording. That sucks. And the voice recording is also only a couple of seconds. What is up wit dat? Oh nd yes when you download a ringtone frm vodafone live you cant send it 2 other people. Crappy. So I actually don't recommend people 2 buy this phone bcuz I think thae shuld get something that is bettter like wif MP3 nd stuff. Panasonic X800 is pretty good nd im looking at the SE s700i and SE v800.

In reply to the various questions, this might help you. To activate the GPRS you have to contact the provider(vodaphone, O2 etc). For downloads to a pc with a data cable press the button in the middle, then Applications, then PC Link, then Data cable. As far as the Infra red is concerned I believe that it only works with a Infra red USB connection to download info to a pc, not phone to phone. I hope this lot helps.

Thanks Brad the Great, I have had the icon on my GX25 for ages of a little world with an excamation mark near it. I found out it was telling me I had a WAP Alert but couldn't find out how to read/clear it. Followed your advice and went to Vodaphone Live, although I did then have to choose Advanced from Options, anyway my problem is now solved and Im very grateful ^_^

I had this phone for over 1 year and it didn't disappoint me. The only drawback is that you get borred of it very quickly. (very nice colours and ergonimic display - camera shots sharp pictures compared to others VGA cameras) Battery lasted 4 days. Also haven't got any software problems. HWCORE, Romania.

its a great phone, the only problem i have is the infared it works when it feels like. But i think it depends on how big the picture or video is when you use the infared.Then again there is multimedia! The picture quality is great really clear photos, and so is the video. Just a pity it hasnt got bluetooth. And you cant record your own ringtones.

Hello Venus To get to the WAP alerts you need to go into vodafone live and go to options (Right Hand Softkey) in there should be browser options or something like that I think its option 4. then choose option 4 after that again and those are your WAP alerts. Hope this helps mate Brad

I have this unit given to me by my brother from UK. I really like the phone. But i have a big problem and i do hope you can help me. On the screen display there is a G for GPRS and WAP with an envelope under. As i understood, it is a WAP alert. if your phone turns its self off it is not act off it on stand by mode if you press the # key on the key pad then it should go back on again if it dose not fix take it to a phone shop and thay will fix it

This is a great phone, has it all, camera, video, disco light, takes awesome photo's which print really well. No longer available in NZ but cost $1299 NZ when I got it. Quite expensive, now they have similiar models cheaper (bit gutted bout that).

This has to be the WORST phone I have ever owned. Swapped this for my GX10 which also was very poorly made! My GX20 switches itself off when I open or close it. Total bollocks!! Goo job the picture quality was decent or this thing would certainly have been launch out of a moving car a long time ago! Best phone I ever owned was a Nokia 8210 - Shame Nokia cant produce quality anymore too!

I can`t really fault the sharp GX20, except for one thing, it cuts out alot and goes blank and has a habbit of doing it when I recieve a text or phone call. Hope the other Sharp mobiles don`t do this cos I`ll be guttered. Overall rating the DOGSBOLLOCKS!!!

this is an excellent phone, everything about it is amazing, this is my 1st none nokia in years and this beats any nokia. the camera quality impressed the photographer for the times news paper need i say any more!? the phone is well built and has a good feel to it. i got my phone �150 on Vodafone PAYG and the vodafone live service is excelent. the only thing i can say is some of the ringtones arent so good but i have a free wap sight to download ringtones if anyone wants it! GREAT PHONE!

Ok, I admit that I can't tell the difference between the new TFT's with the smaller pixels. But as I said, like the V200 E700 and so on had bigger pixels, and if you're not completely blind you can tell. So you proved me wrong, I take it now leave it. I never claimed to be a technical advisor, and I probably would be if I'd work for SHARP, so there goes your point TEALEAF. What is it with you guys? Ok, I get the point so can you finally shut up? Stop being so damn annoying as if the SHARP is the worst phone you've ever seen. I like it and I don't give a damn if you guys stick to your Nokia or SE or whatever. I just don't like the 7610 screen and don't care about the K700 because I want a flip phone. Get it? So again, if there's a decent Flip with the same technical specs like the Sharps then tell me. Hi Skatericardo, yes, the GX20 does have a Video camera. You can record up to 20 Seconds of Video with Sound. The quality is soso, but it's a mobile phone. It's 15 frames per second and I think it's around 240 x 180 px resolution, can't tell you exactly. It's fun though and you can download them and watch them on Quicktime 6. cheers,

Hi yall, @ kieran, you don't know what you are talking about, quite frankly. You probably haven't even held a GX20 before and can't compare and contrast the two phones. If you're after style, true, the E700 is beautiful. You're after QUALITY? The E700 is cheaply manufactured, the screen is small and the TFT and the camera is second class. I've tested the E700 thoroughly and it's beautiful, just no value. Too expensive for it's cheap features. I admit that the memory kicks butt big time. The screen is ordinary and the camera plays up a lot. The GX20 is brilliant, the picture quality is excellent and the screen is smoother and brighter than any TFT could ever be. I don't need an E700 to stand out from the crowd (since too many people own it anyway). The GX20 is awesome quality, it's a SHARP. The E700 is also old technology by now. Korean Samsung (Anycall) mobiles are much more advanced, so if you need to have a SAMSUNG, move to Korea. Don't just go for looks, your mobile needs to work too! cheers,

Hey Yall, I've had the GX20 for a while now and I love it...still!!! Now for the photo question. If you only take photos you'll be able to fit around 80 in 320 x 240 px resolution on it. That's pretty good. The quality is good enough so I can take snapshots and put them on the web. Really clear!! The storage is a little problem, only 2 MB isn't much, but if you regularly download your favourites to your computer you'll have no worries. So far I haven't seen any phone (other than Korean or Japanese phones) with such a good display!!! The CGS is probably the brightest and clearest and a TFT looks REALLY lame and cheap compared to it!!! The quality of the phone is A+, very solid. I'm very satisfied with this phone and recommend it highly to everyone! cheers yall, skater42

Allright! I received the GX20 two days ago, got it from ebay. I have to say it. THIS PHONE IS BEAUTIFUL. I've never seen such a clear screen, and I cannot imagine that even a 262000 color screen should be better. The colors display perfect. it's so bright, even at night when the backlight turns off I can still see the screen. Awesome sound quality. Pictures are better than with my 2.0 digital camera that I own (I'm not exagerating). Macro function is worth gold. I can't tell you guys how happy i am with this phone. it's got pretty much everything i need.

To Stevlin, What you said about the IR port being able to do file transfer from phone to PC is correct. And thank goodness for that too. What I meant, however, is the fact that, unlike most other phones with IrDA, the Infrared cannot be used to transfer media to other handsets. That is a big let down, as the other day a friend of mine had a picture from his holiday on his phone, but he couldn't send it to me because my IR port does not accept incoming connections from other phones!

Hey Naim, ive got one of these phones and you can use irda to transfer pics, tones, video from phones to pc, if you go into applications then down to PC LINK. unbelievable phone truly the best phone i have use upto date, i want the gx30 now to see if it possible to get better. and to I NOW ALL--- get a life, even the new nokias doent stand up the excellence of this phone, the only phone i have seent at has just as good a screen and pics is the p900 which is twice as expensive at leats and 50% heavier and chunky. anything else is less than this. i also work for VF and live kills other carriers take offs, but like EXPERT says find some alternative download sites. This phone has loads of great features like the camera. However, it is such a shame that Vodafone have spoilt it by applying their stupid red-and-white theme to it (I mean what's the point of having a 65k colour screen, if the menu system only uses three of them??), and disabled file transfer with the IR port so that we have to use MMS instead to increase their revenue. If Sharp stopped selling their handsets to Vodafone, this phone would be the ultimate GSM phone. At least, that's what I think!

Peter, the GX20 does allow you to edit pictures with stamps and effects eg sepia, emboss. It is a good phone in general. I havent had any problems with it.

I can accept comments made for and against this phone but to give a unbiased view. If you want a phone with a good camera as the absolute priority then get the gx20 or gx30(the latter is slightly more advanced but also slightly bulkier and heavier), as the camera is superb in the day and pretty good at night - a lot of slowdown on movement but brilliant flash which means you can take pictures even in a pitch black room(if for some reason you had to). It isn't the smallest flip phone around but it is light. No bluetooth is a big negative and the infrared is all but useless. If your priority is for downloads such as applications, wavs, mp3s, truetones, games etc then I would get a nokia 3650 or 6600 everytime as they are by far the most compatable with most wap sites. The camera is also pretty good too. Both nokias are somewhat bulky phones though. I own this phone and I use the camera a lot(especially in the bedroom if you know what I mean). I wish it had elements of the nokias as well but given the choice I pick the Sharp. Whatever float your boat really.

Read and LEARN - The camera on this phone is great. Anyone who says anything is better, apart from the GX30's 1MP Cam is WRONG. The Quality is EXCELLENT. Samsung cameras are crap compared to this. -There is hardly any difference between the GX20's 65K screen and the GX30's 262k screen. I own BOTH. The resolution is superb and the display is nice and bright. -YOU CAN EASILY transfer images, sounds and videos using the software on the cd. The phone has an IR data transfer mode which works with IR enabled computers. YOU CANNOT SEND FILES to other phones and PDAS using IR. You can only use IR as a modem. - The ringtones are VERY loud. Once again, the people saying they are quiet are talking out of their ass. Midi ringtones are supported, and they play great quality. -The JAVA supports almost EVERY java game available for similar handsets. -Battery life is great too, only a 2 hour charge lasts a whole day. -For those saying this is a boring handset - SHUT UP. It has some great fun features to explore, including disco lights, games, image editor, ringtone creator. -It has a solid design, with excellent build quality. To be honest, anyone dissing this phone is obviously jealous. I work for Vodafone, don't know about the other guy who said he did. There are very few phones that are up to the standard of this. I'll admit that Vodafone are doing a lot to make you pay for ringtones, games and backgrounds - but do some searches for some wap sites in google and you'll get lots of cool stuff for hardly anything. Many people have problems deciding between this and the GX30. To be honest, the GX30 is hardly better than this. The camera is slightly better, and the mp3 is limited to 128kbps CB MP3S. Bluetooth doesn't support file transfer, and you cannot have mp3s as ringtones. I'd wait for the Next Sharp installment (prob Sharp GX40)

Excellent phone, I write mobile reviews for a magazine and of all the phones I have used and worked with, the GX20 is the phone i chose to use. I have found one small problem though, there is no bluetooth which can come in quite handy sometimes. Other than that its the best phone on the market.

I have had the phone for one morning and decided to exchange it because it didn't take long to realise that the phone wasn't the phone for me. The uploading of pictures to your pc was a major let down, its long complicated and costs! Messaging takes longer than other phones. When u close the phone with one hand u end up putting your fingerprints on the camera because of the positioning. The dual screen feature is excellent tho!!. The phone looks great and pictures are quality. I'd give it a 6/10! (Just to give you and idea I give my old Nokia 7210 the same rating, so maybe thats why I wasn't too happy with the Sharp GX20.

Enhanced photo quality & MP3, sound pretty good. The Voda live service is good aswell. Better thean Nokia camera phones.
