I still have my 15 year old now SX1 in perfect condition (except for minor scratches!), with the whooping for that time 512MB MMC Card in it, full of pictures, some MIDI music files, WAV files and (yes!!) 235 MP3s down-sampled at 64kbps! Yeah! Although it is not stated in the device's characteristics, it was the first phone back then capable of playing mp3 music! I was so thrilled when I bought my first two-in-one phone and mp3 player! I remember that the battery used to last for about 5-6 days, with only phone talking, but after 15 years I'm very lucky that it lasts 3-4 full days, more than I can say for my new phablet with the 4000mah battery! Back then, everything was built to last! Nowadays everything is built cheaply, so that it brake down easily and you have to buy a new one 1 or 2 years! We are all being eaten by our consumer society...!

My 3rd GSM phone, I was considered very flash for having a phone with such a big screen !!! It lasted a very long time, especially considering the abuse it took while living on the road as a traveler and the number of raves and parties it helped to organise !!!

I was robbed. My phone was stolen. Enter a shop and bought the best one there. Yes, a SX1. I still have it but I think it doesn't work. First class phone, with DES encryption, the same algorithm used on bank cards... Hope that rumors about Siemens return to the mobile phones is true!

I had one back in 2004 and it was amazing! It was the first Siemens cellphone supporting MP3 ringtones. It was fully customisable, with a removable memory card, supported mp3 playlists which could be heared from the phone's loudspeaker. It was really a cellphone ahead of it's time!! Unfortumately, the battery would be drained in a matter of 2-3 days of no use. I would definetly buy one, if I could ever find it again... !!!!

@Raphael Ghana You can get batteries for SX1 at Mobiltec24 DE, they do understand EN. They got the original Siemens 1000mAh batt. and a 1300mAh OEM. My original Siemens batt. latest 5 years (quality stuff!), I then used 1300mAh which I bought from Mobiltec.

i owned this kind of phone 2 years ago and i would say that this is one sh*t of a phone!....it wont sustain long if you play mp3's for a couple of hours even though it has a memory card...it also easily got low-bat so i had to charge it almost every 2 hours!.....i ended up going to the service center for 5 times!...i really utilized the warranty they provided when i bought the phone, i dump this when the service center were'nt able to fix it anymore...if your planning to buy this fone, i tell you...DON'T!!!

this phone rocks i put a mmc card on it and he acept the 2gb mmc most of nokia and samsung in 2003 dont acept more than 1gb and half of phones back 2003 dont have memory card. all most of siemens phones can be a sh**t but this phone is the best if siemens has more phones like this maybe exist on the market phones like sony ericsson do. yah sony ericsson a few years ago is a bad brand cellphones was ugly, no batery time and no sexy phones, now have the more sexy phones in the world, batery times is the best in the market and dont say iphone is the best because not. try xperia from se and you see what is a multimedia, bussiness phone!!!!

I owned SX1 back 2004, Software is a symbian 60 a software made by Nokia. The phone is already dead last 2005 since Siemens service center cannot fix it anymore I change my phone already

Got this unit Sep 04. Though this was brought for repair (could actually have been with the service center longer than I've ever used it) a lotta times, it still is the best phone for me, until now, and maybe for a longer period. Might be because this is just my 2nd phone since 2001 (Nokia 5110) and I rarely am captivated by new products. My terms of choosing a handset basically is by the design and what it's capable of. The sleek design of this (SX1) is one of a kind, the uniqueness, and having to know that only a few of us owns this gives a feeling of satisfaction, a feeling of pride. Not to mention, the functionality of this, providing you the basics (sms, calls, etc) of your mobile with add-ons too (games, etc). I have one concern though, and if anybody can provide an answer, please. I just have a dilemma in accepting large files due to internal mem is limited, are there means to actually redirect these [files] directly onto the MMC? Appreciate any suggestion. With all these said, please know I'm a proud owner of one!

Hello there. I still own and feel fully proud of this sleek mobile masterpiece after buying this in Thailand from MBK (since 2004). This is the one and only one symbian phone from SIEMENS before merging with benQ. Any symbian phone in this world naturally hangs depending on how big is its RAM and firmware stability. Firmware upgrade cannot be avoided and this can be tricky to make things worse, if you are careless. I burnt out my SX1-OMAP once and have it replaced at an incredibly high price. It was my last time to play with firmware. So far, little sx1 rarely goes hanging and seems to be so humble as it is getting older. Housing has run out with my plan to buy new housing from germanmobile.com with carbon black version. Could anyone never used this state-of-the-art phone keep any words for oneself? Your biased comment does not make any good to this old discontinued phone, yet the dignity and proudness of existing owners. Unique keypad layout suits my sms typing fully. 3 reasons I love this sx1 with heartfelt sympathy to throw it away. 1. one and only one SIEMENS symbian phone 2. full features: FM, memory slot, MP3 (supreme quality with O2 player), video, camera (even, this is only VGA). 3. uniqueness you can be proud of

Hi, i'm absulutly desperate ! i just bought a used one with very old firmware ( SVN:10, Appl SW: 12.2_10 ) and it has a lot of errors...i reseted the phone but it doesn't fit some problems...software crashes sometimes when i try to finish a call or if i want to take a call during i am in the menue I don't find a working Software to synchronize my Outlook Contacts (I can't find the MPM Symbian Update / SDS for SX1 on the net... Siemens closed all their mobile sites and Benq shows no support for the SX1). I tried Oxygen Phone Manager II 2.41 - can't find my SX1 via Bluetooth. sorry for my bad english and greetings from germany maybe...can someone plz send me a newer firmware or the softwareupdate ? /deedee

i have had this phone for about 4 years now and i aint had a problem with it. I was suprised that it ran s60 like on the old nokia s60 phones and the ngage. If you guys didnt know but you can play ngage games on the sx1 and install s60 software.

The phone became very unstable,it would hang within 5 secs on powering on & then would reboot.I couldn'nt do anything.So I decided to reflash it with the official ver 15.But unfortunately,it shut down during the process.ANd now it wpnt power on......

I've had my phone for a few years, I work in the pc industry so this phone fits my style. The errors are usually due to me messing with it. I've got updates and manuals, I have java applets, chess and even solitaire, and have other programs that allow sending and recieving of sms, and mms free. I constantly max this phones capabilties. Outside of not having a wi-fi card, or built in GPRS, this phone pound for pound, or lets say ounce for ounce is untouchable. This phone is a tech's dream, if anyone would like assistance or is in need of software/information I will certianly assist.For the posting that's having a problem resetting the phone attempt holding down the ( # + *) as you power the phone on. This was my all time fav phone.I still have it albeit,its dead.Every one kknows about the features & its pros & cons.But I would say the biggest disadvantage was that it was Siemens.They really couldn't market it properly & then they shut shop. I searched all over Mumbai for this back in Dec 04.I finally got it from an obscure shop in the outskirts.The phone was amazing,but mine came with an fauly charger.Forunaely there was one service center (for the whole city) & got it repaired after 3 months(yes thats how long it took them!).It was quite stable since then,excpet it would occasionally scare me wth those wierd sound at startups. Anyway,in Jan this year,it finally died,the battery just died & even after getting another one(searching for one took me a whole month & an duplicate Chinese made),just couldn't revive it.Its locked in my cupboard.I did get myself an N80 though! Sorry for a long reveiew ;)

This phone is a freak!!!!!!!!!! very low quality key pad design. It firm-ware sucks!!!! Fragile operating System. This phone freezes after every 1 hour. Just it has a good FM radio. Otherwise Nokia 6600 is far more better

I extremely hate this fone.. But I love the looks!! I have the normal one.. I had to change the software 5 times the past 2 years! It always got stuck and I had alot of errors.. and now.. I've got very important messages but the phone won't engage. So, I have to go and install a new software which will make all of my messages get deleted. I don't want that. Those messages and calendar dates are very important. Can anyone help, please? One more question. I would like to change the cover to the McLaren edition. Can I do that? or it's not possible?1 As well as.. How can I convert it to the Symbian programming? and what is Symbian anyhow. I don't know anything about phones! I have been using this phone for 1 1/2 years(bought in 01/01/05) & I dont see any reason for changing the phone,even thogh there are phones coming with 3 MP camers.It is so unique,every1 keeps staring at my phone & its got awesome features & the sound is excellent(I convert mp3s to ogg).Yes it supports 512,I think upto 1GB,but the earlier person said he uses 2GB,I am not sure about that though.

well i have this phine for abt six months and i love it,specially as a symbian os it is way better than others like 6600(my previous phone),it is much much faster than 6600,camera is very good,sound is little bit low but quality is excellent.design is grt,battery timing is excellent,dislplay is brilliant and crispy,the disadvantage is that i have lost its handsfree and in pakistan it is hard to get its orignal HS-550, because without it radio wont play

an above average phone. better that n6600. the good: it has radio and mp3 player, w/c rarely found together in other units or brand. camera is excellent for a vga type and the screen display is very good. internet access is fast but there's a lot of applications that are not compatible. phone built is excellent if not for the keypad. the bad: it occassionaly reboot, hang and really hard to get used to keypad. 1 to 5 (five as highest) i'll rate sx1 4

Gotta Admit Siemens SX1 is the best phone i ever used , many functions and features , but the downside is the built-in 4mb memory , can't receive mp3s via bluetooth and mp3 as ringtone. but overall its a great and unique phone.

Well what can I say.... This is THE BEST Siemens phone ever, and it has some very strong sides !!! After some firmware patches this phone can work flawlessfully. I put it 2GB MMC+ card(which even doesn't work with my notebook card reader) and it worked fine. I use puppetmaster or controlfreak to control my notebook like a remote control via Bluetooth connection. Mp3 player sounds best and u can listen mp3s for 10 or more hours with one battery cycle.

to scarface, answering his caveman question : mmc = MultiMedia Card and its a kind of memory card similar to SecureDigital brands of mmc : Transcen, SanDisk, etc i dont know what kind of 512mb card u bought, there are various types i havent tried 512 on a SX1, but i dont see why it wouldnt work

The siemens sx1 is a top phone, even today, I bought mine 3 years ago. I have had problems with it but have found the customer service from Siemens to be excellent. The phone has Bluetooth as well as infra red so the connectivity is excellent. You can use RS MMC cards in it with no problem. Im even using Route 66 on it (it cant handle Tom tom due to memory) with the SX1 car kit installed. In short i havent found a phone in 3 years that will give me something extra worth having. The alarm clock on the world clock is excellent, even the Nokia N70 doesnt have the alarm that you can set for working days, weekends etc. Great feature. Siemens... SX2 please!! And dont lose any of these features from the SX1. New firmware upgrade (free from siemens site) has nightshot, and is terrific.

Well, so far i've been using Siemens SX1 for 5 months using the black Mclaren Edition. The MP3 is stereo. But i seldom use the MP3 coz im using Symbian OGG player. The screen is quite surpassing but not that bright. Ringtone is quite soft but with vibration moe, it vibrates well, and alerts you of incoming calls and message. Well, U cant change themes. Live with the 4 themes inside the phone. It supports Nokia 7650 N 3650 applications under Symbian v6.0 OS. Any programs run with these 2 Nokia phones should probably also run in SX1. Well, it seldoms hangs, and if there is an attack, i mean.. bad attack on your SX1, u can simply reformat it. well, just bear the loss of data.

I got the SIEMENS SX1 mobile phone from abroad my younger brother sent it for me. The handset is very good in maintaining network in places far from the service provider. Features include all for multimedia access. But being a larger size,heavy weight,abnormally placed dial keys make it somewhat disadvantageous. Recently it does not open. An eye appears for some time and thereafter shows an empty screen. I contacted local repairmen but they claimed that they bought no accessory for that particular one as they are more costly. However I might not peel off it. I will try later myself to activate it again. This was really a good companion of me during leisure.

My SX1 turns itself off every time I try to turn it on... you get the eye etc, but as soon as it tries to display the normal mode, it turns itself off. Any ideas? I am running the latest firmware upgrade and had no problems with it. Thanks

I doubt you guys have the latest firmware on your phones. Mine lasts 3 days with heavy usage. Its really brilliant for a phone released in its time. Mine works close to perfect, very much comparable with k700i's capabilities, if not BETTER.

Lion, you can take this phone if you're more concerned with a symbian smart phone. it could be little slow as it is an old model but you can't get stereo MP3 and FM radio (both in one) even today in new coming really expensive smart phones. i don't know much about this phone but after using Siemens M55 and now CX65, i am getting frustrated with my current Nokia 6670! even camera of CX65 (VGA) gives more clear and smooth results than Nokia 6670 (1MP). SX1 is a great phone with a great design that even other people with Nokia phones would look at. On a dinner with friends who own new Nokia phones, they would pass my SX1 around because they are amazed by the keypads at the sides. The look is also very futuristic with a balance of slick tech design. They would also discover a lot of things in it that are good. The SX1s performance is very stable for as long as you have the latest firmware installed. It's quite old yet it can still compete against the latest Nokia symbian phones. Nokia SUCKS anyway.

Thanx Ladle. I've installed ETI Camcorder Pro, the result looks great at 'picture quality' but not at 'sound synch', rather delayed, Siemens built in video rec is better on sound synch. I like this SX 1, that why I have 2 of them. After couple months, start problem with the phone (start up failure). I have to bring the phone two times for repair and takes more than 1 months each time (waiting for parts). The other one have problem with the batterei, quest what? It's cost AUS $120 for the batterei, I bought the phone brand new just AUS $250. Now I'm going back to NOKIA again :p

I like this phone A LOT!! Specially the camera, it has automatic lightning to adjust when taking pictures. It has the best quality for VGA camera. unfortunately it has 4MB only on its internal memory. I'm having trouble to exchange bigger file content such as MP3 using bluetooth. so I used card reader n save it on my 256MMC. Too bad I didn't have the chance to had the McLaren Edition. So I bought the carbon black. the MP3 player sounds a bit poor compare to SL45. but that doesn't effect too much. the screen used TFD so it can use the battery more efficient. I was hoping that siemens would build its next generation (SX2*probably*, with 2.0 megapixel camera, TFD 265000colors, MP3player, radio, Symbian Os V8.0, bigger battery capacity maybe 1500MH, black colour) with a PERFECT software & of course with its unique n fashionable design that has been trademark for SX1.....

Any Rs-mmc card can be used....i have a rs-mmc 256 card with some short movies on it made possible by the smartmoive software. Its preety good. I do have some bugs like restarting, but i use it as my second phone...for games and excellent software. I have the ngage software on and its wicked. As a second phone it is fantastic....the camera is superb and many of the features. Got to ebay and buy the Software disc. Its for �5 and has virtually every software you need. For �5 its well worth it. Any questions please ask.

Yeah the photo spy captures images as they move across the screen. You have the choice of how many images you want the camera to capture and you can save to either mmc card or phone memory. You can also set the camera sensitivity level. Its a handy little software and i am have much fun with it. The ngage software is good too. Full games. I am having fun with this phone. Its a superb little gadget with a really good camera. The symbian series60 software allows the following: Any device that has the symbian software will be compatible with any application you have instatlled on the mmc card of your phone, for example all the applications and games i have installed on my mmc for my siemens sx1 will work on another symbian phone (any make). So if you decide to upgrade to another symbian handset dont worry, just pop your mmc card out and put it in that device. Simple...enjoy

Seven, i agree with some parts of trhe review but that review is old. I have firmware 12 running which is the latest one. I agree that there are some bugs on the phone, and i also stated in my review that any series 60 symbian phone offers the same potential. The interface on the nokia 6600 is dull compared to the sx1. The menus and icons are much better. The keypad is the only major let down for this phone.

I got this phone a month ago, and i must say i was impressed. The level of applications available and games and software available is crazy. My SX1 is loaded with applications, i even have the NGAGE emulator on there and the megadrive one. The screen is really big and bright. The camera is excellent and i have installed a 4hr camcorder. I have installed many different features for the camera. I have photospy installed to see if anyone enters the private areas and for further evidence the motion camera will record anything that moves. I have installed smartmovie from where i can watch movies and films, and am currently installing the dvd converter. The graphics processor in this is really good. The games play well and the NGAGE games play perfectly. The mp3 player is really good. Really clear. I have installed the ultraMP3 player which makes the phone look impressive. The phone maybe a bit bulky but the levels which this phone operates on is awssome. The Nokia 6600 and any other 60 series symbian phone have the same potential. I have inserted a 256mb card which is more than enough. The bluetooth is a let down as it only lets you send files the size of the phone memory, which isnt enough. the phone memory is only 4mb but 2mb is used up by the operating system. The keys along the side are a bad idea if you are a heavy texting person. It gets really frustrating. The battry life could be better and lasts around about 2 days low use and 1 day heavy use. its fantastic i love it i cant live without it

i have a siemens mclaren sx1 for about 4 months, my view is:- but very poor display,rh keys does not light up properly,very poor ringing tone missed a lot calls at first, had put it on vibration, battery does not even last 24 hours,left hand key failed from day one, keys are very hard to use at first, software is very hard to install, very slow to work around all the icons, this phone has crashed a lot of times whilst talking, this is not a good everyday phone!

I have asked frequently about my comment (specially from Iranians) and asked if I am still satisfied about my SX1. now after 4 months working with this phone, I should say that I am really really staisfied about this phone. it is exactly the phone I like to have. even better than 6600. it is convenient and perfect. only disadventage is its low sound which caused many miss calls for me. another disadventage (which is common between many phones) is when I have a recieved unknown call, after accepting the call, the number disappeared and I see (Call1) except the number of dialer phone. I tell to other Iranians which like to ask me: be sure it is perfect. only care about its original and don`t buy chinese fake ones!!!

I loved the screen, the games, the applications, but this Siemens broke my heart. Just brought mine. Black color, a real beauty. Mine was manufactured in Germany, in Dec 2004, with CD Software ver 2.0. Have not experience any problems mentioned by other user. I guess with one year after the release date, Siemens would have solved both the hardware and software problem. It is a great phone, esp the solid mp3 feature (better than my other dedicated player). Price is also much affordable now.

Most amazing phone ever. The SX1 is way ahead of its time with a rich multimedia-focused feature set, great camera quality and crystal clear stereo output. Reception and voice-clarity is top notch, although this is network dependant. The latest firmware (FW15) has solved the loudness (or should i say softness) issue with the speaker that most people here complain about. Software issues, OS instability and crashes that other's claim are by and large caused by installing pirated or unsupported applications/games. Believe me, this will happen with every other smartphone out there and is not exclusive to Siemens. Try installing a bunch of apps into any N7610 or N6600 and it'll grind to a halt as well. To maintain rock-solid stability, always reformat the phone and MMC after updating to the latest Firmware then only reinstall SX1-compatible, vendor-supported apps.

I sent my defective SX1 to Siemens and have to wait forever for a new one shipped to me from Germany. I called Siemens Cust. Service several times and they were not cool about it. They said it would take 6-10 weeks before the phone gets here. I paid alot of $$$ for it and now I have to wait 2 months for the phone. It's ludicris!!! Never Siemens again in my life.

SX1 has some complaints, the main thing being that sometimes, the sound system does not work, and whatever you say into the phone is not heard at the other end. Another problem is that sometimes the sound is too low, and the speaker does not have sufficient volume.

Ive had this phone for 7 months now its been returned 3 times. Major faults exist with this handset mainly with the software. Siemens make good phone but bad smartphones. USB connection rarely works only positives are that it has a massive screen and SD card.

But these are its adventages, to be fair, I should say about its disadventages too: first, I should talk about its voice: Voice is not loud enough and sometimes I had many miss calls, because in outdoor the voice is not heard!! loudest voice is a middle level of many other phones. the Build quality is doubtful too. sometimes I fear that my keys become left from body. another disadventage is about Battery place that it won`t be severly in the place without back cover. if you don`t place back cover, battery will fall. it seems that Battery is smaller than suitable size.also about joystick, recently I feel that sometimes not work good and I should press it harder( I only feel, may be my pressure is not true). someone said before about restarting of the phone. yes that is true. my phone recently Restarted suddenly without any reason, one of these times, today during my call. but I think it is becaue of programs I installed on my phone specially sound recorders that are runing in background. someone asked about its price in Dubai, I was one month before in Dubai and price was 930 Drahma. in Iran it is now near 250$. these were my exprience about my phone and I like to share it to others. if adventages are importnat to you, I advise you to buy it, because these are very useful to me compare by many other phones, even Nokia 6600. but if disadventages are important t you more than the adventages I said, you should search for better (and maybe more expensive) Phone. good luck all, Datis from Iran

I have read all opinions here. before and after buying an SX1. now I can conclude that there is two different kind of SX1 in market, one is very bad (maybe chinese and other acceptable.) I bought one,exactly in Dec,24 and use it till today. fortunately I am completely satisfie and feel nothing "untolerable" in it. of course it is not faultless, but compare to its facilities, I give this phone a good point. first of all about things I was persisting that my phone should have: 1)MP3 player: the phone MP3 player is very very good and quality is completely acceptable. Transfer rate is very good: I upload an MP3 file in size of 1:70 in almost 10 seconds. Design is good (accoring to my taste it is beatiful, by yours may not!!) its Organizer is very useful and simple to use. Radio is working good,too. Screen is very clear and big enough even to read E-Book (I read many of my short Contents in Bus and streets in my phone. SX1 is wonderful in this case). the Headset quality is very good too, but unfortunately the voice controller is not embeded in Headset and you should bring out phone and made the voice upper or lower. Bluetooth is fast too. applications are also easy to access (you can download many application for free in my website: www.datiki.com) also the charger size is very small and compact and you can have it by yourself anywhere. I bought one of these because of the feature list, and definitely think I made a huge mistake. First, the software is very buggy and crashes all the time, especially when transferring data. Second, the build quality is poor, feeling like a cheap toy compared to my old Nokias (which cost a lot less!). Third, the battery barely lasts one day, versus 4-7 days with every Nokia I've owned. My SX1 has now started resetting itself for no reason, with the result that I'm going to say goodbye to Siemens and buy another Nokia. Nokia build ordinary looking phones that work, where as Siemens build flash toys that don't. I know which I want, and it isn't Siemens.

No kidding on how slow one can get when typing sms, but i'm looking for a bluetooth keyboard to solve the problem but wont be that 'mobile' with that. battery life is the only thing i hate besides the k/board, but what i love most is, most ppl wont use it, so i'm just one of a kind.. btw, FM radio, MP3 - sounds so good. I use card reader to transfer files fr pc-sx1's mmc .. hassle free.

I really wanted the Sx1 "music edition" which was available up until last week on the o2 website. I'mu using a siemens sx1 Hi, and I have a mmc transcent 256mb. When I attempt to make a backup of the phone, siemens sx1 reboots and only 8kb is saved to the mmc. When I attempt to copy a mp3 form pc to mmc, only 1mb is copied, then winxp says "unknown error", and a stupid file name *.xxx is saved on the phone. what Can I do?

Ok, Litlle bit of advice for all people with their troubless about sx1. Go on allaboutsymbian.com and find smartphones-sx1. Read some compatibility chart, becouse many of problems issued here are from incomp memory cards. DO NOT take MMC with phone on even if its posible. Some of bug problems will be solved with SW 15 (comes in 3 months officially on siemens site). I use FW15 retail.uk-de-ru for two weeks, this is some of the features: 1. reset and freez problems are solved 2. sound is much louder like m65 or other non simbian phones. (at last!) 3. more optimized software, so more speed (much quicker then 6600 compared side by side) 4. better speed connection 5. and last thing it allows to have full screen picture (even behind clock and network name - needs some hacking!!!)

I had this phone and it is a good phone.it takes awhile to get used to where the keys are for texting,especially if you are used to the same old,same old Nokia layout but overall it has loads more features than the Nokia 6600(I have had that phone too)and lots of memory which is expandable.Yes thats what comes in the box with this phone(see review below)BUT...it has a short battery life and is very fragile(which I found out)as I dropped it(and not even hard either)while it was IN A STURDY CARRY HOLSTER and the phone died on me as well as the screen splintering.I sent it away and had it fixed($320AUD for a screen)and on getting it back the phone has died again after only a month and now it has had to go back again and Siemens say I voided my warranty by dropping it in the first place(but they are looking at it under the 3 month warranty they give on the work they did fixing it in the first place)so overall this phone is way too fragile for everyday use and I wasnt even using it much either as I have other phones and some of the old Nokias I have dropped over and over and they are still alive and kicking,these newfangled phones with all the fancy bells and whistles on them are far too fragile and I would stay away from this phone if I had my way over again.It cost me $899AUD to begin with...............

Dear Friends: As I read your ideas in this column, I decided to give you a true review of mine. At first,I better mention that THIS HANDY WORKS GREAT ONLY FOR A PROFESSIONAL USER. SX1 Advantages: It has an exclusive great look, ELEGANT, esp at night when its on.(Personnal Matter) Having the Symbian(60 series) for OS caused it to have a lot of developers and therefor ALOT OF WONDERFUL SOFTWARES, if you are a professional user you will notice that this is one of the most important features of a phone. It has PLENTY OF FUNCTIONS AND FEATURES which you can find them in related menus, so if you think this is not a user friendly phone, I guess your not familiar with menus at all,u'd better get a Samsung.(Have an objection? ask Symbian) To be honest, SX1 has a good battery lifetime(although not the best ever), comparing to N6600 and SE K700i, seems SX1 has a more battery lifetime (up to 6 hours more). it takes alittle more than 2 days for an ordinary use, but if you want to whatch movies with it it will last one whole day. but if you are not satisfied with it consider the following notes 1-your battery is not a true Siemens one(I had this problem so changed the battery) 2-you may dont know anything about SmartPhones or you are trying to compare a regular phone with this kind. MP3 player and Wonderful MP3 quality through its handfree which is the best while you can extend your Mem.and also a good Radio. among other features I can mention: Acceptable PC software and data transfer rate, nice icons, camcorder,.... SX1 Disadvantages: 1-Lacking the MP3 for ring tones. 2-Very Very weak and ofcourse ridiculous loud speaker 3-I'm not satisfied with the camera quality, although its preciesely equal with N6600, SE P900 and also much better than SE K700i 4-Lack of themes The rest of the features are equal to its brother N6600, festures like: Halting on programms(which i ONLY experienced them in the first week), CPU speed, fine large display(TFD), decent Blutooth, Expandable Mem. , .... Great phone, but i had loads of problems in the first week kept crashing and could not switch it on with memory card inserted. Then it corrupted and lost all data on card. Bought new memory card and all is ok. Still not happy with battery life its to short i need to recharge every day and a half. Firmware needs development even version 14. My advise is get rid of the memory card sent with phone!

It's great! BTW, Firmware 13 is provided only by svc centers.Last official firmware is 12 (for the time being..).Could use a lot of improvement..That's what siemens says will do with firmware 14.and that is the main reason they are delaying so much in making it public (or so they say..)

Hey I got a black SX1 a week ago. Works great, is fast, full of features, great night-mode, okay (but still one of the best) video mode, etc etc etc... Funny thing is, i got hella drunk 2 days ago (was my birthday party), so I accidentally sat on the phone too often i guess (phone always in my back pocket). Next morning, realized that ALL data (except for those in my mem card) got wiped out. EVERYTHING, including settings, display & sound settings, pictures, sounds, notes, alarms, even phone numbers and also GPRS/MMS settings! But like I said, those in the MMC were okay and undisturbed. The phone doesn't have a clue of damage (even after a crazy night) nor did it get wet. How did this happen?!? ############################# ############################# Secondly, yeah I have the black one, with SVN 14. I am just very disgruntled about the sound on this phone. It's sound system SUCKS and the speaker is loud enough for an ant to be satisfied, but not me! How do I upgrade the loudness of this phone's speaker? Is it possible? What about upgrading it's soundcard? Is this at all possible? THanks all!

I recently bought an SX1, and it was the first and last Siemens phone I'll ever buy. The battery life with light usage was barely a day, despite the claims of Siemens. Moreover, the phone crashed at least once every day or two during the first week. I upgraded to the latest software, but that didn't stop the crashing problems. Instead, within a couple of days of upgrading, it started spontaneously shutting down after a few minutes of use. Sometimes I was lucky, and it would work for a few hours, but it usually died right away. I took it to a repair shop, who said it was a software problem, but I wanted it to be repaired by Siemens, so I sent it back to them. After waiting two weeks, Siemens refused to fix it and sent it back. I've mostly owned Nokias before, and have never had a single one fail ever, even with rough usage. I was very careful with this Siemens phone, and yet it failed within two weeks. Maybe I just got a lemon, but it's enough to put me off Siemens for life.

SVN 14 is the software version for the SX1 with the intergrated DMP software from O2... It allows you to download encrypted AAC+ music (compressed MP3s) from WAP using GPRS... And the phone is also black which makes it look pretty damn cool...

to the person having problems with the .rar files: .rar is actually another compression format,like .zip. so you will need to download s/w like winrar to unpack the files. you should find your .sis files after extraction.

Hi! I have siemens SX1 and I really enjoy it! Quality of pictures is high. there is no limit of video if you have MMC (multimedia card), mp3 player is very good. SX1 is quiet big, but it is lovely smartphone!!!

I recently had the pleasure of experimenting with a friend of mines Siemens SX1. I have to say that although the keypad isn't the greatest design, it doesn't matter because this phone is AMAZING! The features totally make up for it, the keypad is not as bad once you learn how to use it. And its not like it ruins the phones appearance, the phone is actually very stylish, but its difficult to work your fingers around the keypad. I now want one of these and didn't want to give it back. The MP3 player is great my friend has stereo headphones and the sound quality is just like listening to a personal stereo. If you had one of these you wouldn't have to bring your bulky personal CD player with you to class, you can listen to your mobile MP3 during boring lectures while it is in your pocket. Thats not all, the camera is great, texting is fab, Voice dialling and bluetooth are excellent. This phone has too many features to list here. Trust me though, you will not regret buying this phone. I think I will buy one of these as my next phone. Highly recommended!!

The MP3 player is fine, but the Radio can be a little weak. I got rid of mine after numerous lockups and crashes. Several times when answering a call mine would reboot. I bought the phone with FW06 and upgraded to FW07, FW08 and then finally FW10. Each upgrade would fix problems from the previous FW, but would cause new ones. The final straw with FW10 was that when I turned the phone off and then back on, the Date and Time wouldn't be correct. Kind of hard to use the phone as an Alarm Clock when it's turned off. It's a pity, I really wanted and liked the look of this phone. But given the problems it had to go. I think Siemens released this phone just to release it. Remember, it was delayed by almost a year when it came out. Perhaps I just got a bad phone, but given the amount of money I paid for it the problems shouldn't have been as many. Just my 2 Cents.

This phone is simply the best.Although it cant support mp3 as ringtone, u can simply convert part of the mp3 into wav! In anyway, when the phone rings, it will only sustain for 30-40 seconds and it will hang up if the owner does not pick up the phone. So whats the purpose of putting a full mp3 as the ring tone?? A section of the mp3 that lasts 30-40 Seconds is around 6mb. This shouldnt be a problem. oh yeah my ringtone is a mp3 converted wav file. It simply rocks.

haha....i'm from singapore.Go Siemens Centre,tell them the problem and upgrade they will upgrade they FirmWare to version 12.My phone died once within the last 2 mths when i first bought it.Came out system error.Version 12 quite okay...not problems so far.I like the phone of its function.

Erm...Hey have you tried updateing the software from the internet?....my SX1 has none of yur problems..if not go the the service center and ask for an firmware update...the latest software version is Fm12 which is very very stable nothing goes wrong.good luck!

True enough, the design is style. i like the features. but as wat Ferrij. has mention about the restarting of the phone... i got the same problem... is so irritating that sometimes in the middle of a conversation, the phone just auto off and on by itself!! and listening to mp3 when someone call also restart by itself... even worst... someone call me, i saw the screen that someone call me, i reach for the phone, haven even press listen, it restart again.... don know wat to do... even worst thing is that i can't even change a new handphone as is a gift given by my mother-in-law... so i have to keep on using it until who knows when... aiyo... more worst is that i don't even have warrenty card... my mother-in-law lost it... (my god) she brought the phone at starhub... then she lost the phone warrenty card.... i can't even go upgrade the software... got to pay money... my phone is only less then 2 months old.... wat should i do.... anyone can adives on where could i do a software update in singapore?? i have no choice but to pay for the upgrade as i cannot change phone!!! I am 100% agree with you Deddy. The Screen Color, and the Internet Access (I use Opera browser alot), the price, is better on N6600. The only thing I like in SX1 is the physical form. That's why I made decision to by SX1 that now I regret badly.

For its design & O/S, it's a great phone. But I have a VERY BAD EXPERIENCE with that F**KING SX1 PHONE !! I bought in Feb'04, spend US$618. After a week, it display "System Error", and sometimes restart (reboot). The restart frequency then became more often. April'04, my SX1 become useless because, at start-up, it sounds a beep, and automatically turned off. I sent to the Authorized Distributor in Jakarta (PT. DianGraha Elektrika). They upgrade the software (O/S), and replace the warranty sticker on the back. It solved the problem, but the color of LCD is not as good as before. And all of my precious data inside SX1 was LOST !!! 2 weeks later, the same problem happened again. It sometime restart when I use SMS, MMS, open Contacs, or making a call. The "restart" become more often, and in 23May'04, it become "infinite loop of restart". I again sent the phone for service. And now, in this weekend, the SX1 already 2 weeks "death". I don't know when the SX1 will return to me. I will sell that FU*KING SX1, and buy another else, but Siemens. Any body want to buy it for US$100 ? NGage: The NGage does NOT have a 3d processor. It has the same hardware as SX1 and 6600, which is why Ngage games can be hacked to play on these. Search on google for more info. SX1 has camera/video, Ngage doesn't. also don't sidetalk!!

Alen,speed of apps: Will run the NGage versions of Tomb Raider and Sonic at full speed(cracked, not out of the box),so it's a fast phone, but I think the OS can be a bit slow sometimes, but Siemens are still releasing firmware which should speed it up. pinokio:no complaints from the other end when on handsfree, also nice and loud and clear for me.

The SX1 seems to be a phone with the whole package, i might try it out... The V600 has a very poor sound both on calls and on free-hands. People complain when I�m on the car-kit because of the echo, something that did�nt happen with Nokia. Software is a little slow, and not as user friendly. Videos, it only recieves MP4, while Nokia accepts almost anything... Thanx

pinokio - In response to your queries: Battery - 2 days on normal use (mp3,radio,calls) Sound - mp3 and radio are simply excellent with the inc stereo headset. Speaker is OK, ringtones OK. Comfortable to use - the keypad puts people off. It's really ok, easy to get used to and txting 2 handed is dead quick. You can txt 1 handed on it, but not so well. It's a 'solid' phone, not like plasticy 6600, also a bit narrower than 6600. Software is very similar to 6600, same apps and games. What don't you like about v600?

I got a V600 last week and I�m not too happy with it. I find it curious that on the Sx-1 opinions there are mostly positive opinions. Is it really that good? Batt. capacity? sound? comfortable to use? I had a 6600 and got rid of it because of it being such an uncunfortable phone. abdul, the radio can be played through the supplied STEREO handsfree kit. It can also be played through the speaker, so everyone can hear it - the handsfree still needs to be attached as it is the radio antenna. stereo MP3 can also be played either through handsfree or the speaker.

Folks, I've had an SX1 for 2 weeks. It rocks! Specific queries answered: Not mp3 ringtones, but can use WAV. Keypad: it's...different. But I'm used to it now and I think it might be faster 2 handed than normal phone but slower 1 handed. Richo: pros/cons (compared to mentioned phones) Pros: size - much smaller than p900, and 6600 too. radio! very handy. stereo mp3 with headset included.support for series60 apps.(can also play ngage games - I've got tomb raider...shhh!) Actually it has been 2 month since I had my SX1 and I have it for testing... The software version I had was v5 (very bad version, and unstable, too much bugs...) How to know your version: just type *#06# and then press "info" and read what version you do have, the latest is v6 (download for free on my-siemens.com)and by the end of the month We're going to have V7(it's promised to be the real final and stable version). The phone is more or less ok but you have to get used to the key pad being sideways. Personnaly after these 2 month I'm not used to it and still can't leave my P800. I think that Siemens has made a mistake by deciding to launch the handset prematurely...They could have waited till April, better than having all these complaints and bugs... Cheers

It's far from my expectation for a Phone @ US$647 proce. * The signal strenght is below average with another phone (compare to Nokia 8250). * The display color is not as good as other TFT (comparee to Samsung T100). * The headset has very bad noise for use with Telephone and Radio function.(sounds like a chopped or discrette voice). I just about to return it to the cellular shop. So bad.

Overall, I thikn the SX1 is a good phone. My biggest beef is that I can not gget the phone to give me any kind of alert when I receive a new voicemail message. I receive alerts when I receive new text messages and new MMS messages, but not for voicemail messages. I have contacted Siemens directly as well as AT&T Wireless, and they can not help me resolve this problem. Has anyone else encountered a simila situation in the US and been able to resolve it? Thanks

Comparing the P900 with the SX1 is silly. P900 is much more expansive. The weight is 116g to 150g. Its 30% more (so is the price). Do you compare Hyundai cars with Mercedes ?

Bought it last saturday, and I personally think this mobile is really OVERRATED!!! The design is cool, but the program & interface is no different with a Nokia 6600, it is almost the same as Nokia!!! well this phone is taking the siemens engineers so much time to test that i think it will be a normal phone by the time it will be released. Think about it, when i heard the specification of this fone for the first time i only said "WOW" now i will say so what?, the reason is simple, there are many many fones coming in the market which will have all the features which this fone has and they will slowly but surely become better than this fone, so by the time it will be released and with its "expensive" pricing, people will simply look for other fones. I love you Siemens but you have to work harder if you want to stay in the quick changin fone market..

costa have u ever seen NOKIA displays? what r u comparing? NOKIA diplay is shit everybody knows that.compare with samsung or some gud quality diplay fones. TFT is used with old laptops it is much better than STN.i'v got 7210, 7250 both shit diplay having 4096 colours.Now i got the S55 its diplay(256 colour) is very gud compared to NOKIA 4096 disp. i'm really glad i changed to siemens armed with loads of features like blutooth camara etc and able to send any data from any menu unlike NOKIA which u cannot send anything throught the Ird :D

To everyone, about Misha. This guy has never tried the SX1 and are just writing bullshit. To prove it: WAP 2.0 is not yet implemented to the SX1 and the camera is also not yet finished developed (it will for sure not be 1,2MB, but 0,3MP).

Clie is a palm pilot for $1400 and SX1 is a cellphone for $700 if to start this conversation i have a Sony GRS-700 and it is P4-M-2.0Mhz with 1024 RAM and DVD-RW drive and also 120GB hard brive that is better that your SONY CLIE NX70VG, this is cell phone forum not a pocket or laptop PC! just making this point clear. I didn't try maximum recording capacity on this phone, cause i have mp3's on the MMC, but you can record more than you would want too. for now i have 18 tracs that are about 3-4 minutes long... i don't know when else i can use videorecording, more usefull is the still picture function i like it so much better. i had SL45 2 years ago i was completly saticfied with it, but SX1 is new generation, with colored screen and not like nokia 4k colors, but 65k, cool polyphonic ringtones and pretty much this is a hand help PC, if you are ready to spend 700$ on a phone i would strongly recomend you any Siemens over Nokia. mostly when it is monster such as SX1.

Well I had this phone for a little wile and from what i saw so far: the phone is fantastic the screen is not scratched, and i keep it in my pocket wile i walk or sit up and down and thevibrator is pretty noticable when the phone is on cilent in the pocket of the vest, when the ringer is on loud it is not as loud as i would expect it too, but better than my sonyerricson P800 and a bit worse than my 6610 nokia. picture quality is cool, mp3's rock, it's on all the time and the battery is holding allright ( i mean enough for 1 day (13 hours)(Including talking Mp3/Radio/Talking 60-75 minutes/gaming/application use.) overall great deal if you have money to spend! i got mine for $700 and it's worth every cent i spent on it.

camera is 1,2 megapixels the quality above avarage but not as high as i thought it would be, batery life is not very good... mp3 playback is about 13 hours to kill battery and in wait well 35 hours ( including sometalking mostly keypad islocked) about 512 i was told that it doesn't work good with this phone and better to put 256 it costa around 70$...

ok I got this phone... 700$ pretty cheap... the phone is great, keypad is cool and really fun to use ussaly when i walk i just keep my one hand in the pocket and type sms all day long, but with this kind of keypad ican not do so cause it takes 2 sides and i can not do itwith one hand, but when i type with 2 hands it is real fast and t9 is in 5languages that is soooo cool. and good vocabulary. pretty quiet thou i was in the airport the other day people scream around and it is almost impossible to hear a thing in the head set. great amount of functions still trying to figure out if i can listen to mp3/radio through the Btooth, sofar no sucess... oh well... if you have any questions about the phone i can try to answer it.. it is worth 900$ and i would've paid that much.

Well what with the battery and the other cool features, this phone is almost a dream come true for me. After the 7650 this is the first phone that has caught my attention. I have been waiting to get my hands on this set for the past 3 months. but so far no luc. I wish i knew how i cud get it in Kuwait and for how much. All this "my phone is better than your phone" crap is totally unnecessary. Nokia phones are not as technologically superior as they claim to be and certainly not at the prices they are been sold for. Ok nokias are not technologicaly supperior... they have the worst technology, they can hardly make 65k color screen, changable color panels fall apart.. their fake phones that are gameboys... geeze...
