Sonim XP5300 Force 3G - User Reviews

  • Do you need Rugged phones with better quality?

  • I called my cousin to buy it for me, I paid $ 600.00 for such Poor quality phones. Rubber came off after a few weeks, the same happened to my cousin.. !! I really like key board type phone and I still looking for a such heavy one. Very disappointed .....!!!

  • Poor quality phones. Rubber came off after a few weeks, the same happened to one of my colleques.

  • An expensive phone that does not hold any of the promises. Purchased in July 2012, I have been using it with German software in a "non-hostile" environment, i.e. only very little workshop use. The rubber is completely gone now (started to go off 4 months after purchase) which means it's not waterproof anymore, the sound quality gets worse and worse (both mic and speakers), sometimes the system crashes and reboots (which is incredibly annoying since it happens mainly during phone calls). Moreover the software is completely outdated and is not being supported anymore, or at least so it seems, since customer support does not respond... ever. This software only has very limited space for phone book entries, calender entries, mails, messages, just name it, despite having 16GB of added flash memory, thus rendering it completely unusable as a "smart"-"phone". In short: A total waste of time and money.

  • After less an hour, the phone became mad..... search - find - loose the network infinite loop ..... remove the battery and disable the UMTS. OK fine without 3G. After less than one year in standard city environment the plastic sheath unstick.. then, impermeability is gone and the phone looks crap ! Don't buy this expensive and crap phone....

  • Here you can download stuff for this phone:

  • I bought the xp300 phone 2 years ago, just for phoning because it was strong and resilient. Have not had any technical difficulties or battery problem. It is the case that its enclosed in that has broken. Sent it away for repair 2 weeks ago and have not received it back. I have tried to chase it up but the customer service never replies. Can anyone give me advise how to get my phone back.

  • On number 4 of these damn things in 8 months and the new one thas just arrived doesnt work.. 400 quid in what to do they couldn't organise a p*&s up in a brewery.

  • Question: How did you get a firmware update? Searched the web & didn't found anything at all ... Thank you in advance.

  • NEVER EVER BUY A SONIM !!! endless problems, see below emails I sent: Dear Mr. XXX, Further to our eMails dated from 27.July 2012 to 30.October 2012 (last, 30.10.2012 15:53 ) I wish to let you know that I am indeed unhappy. I still have serious problems with my Sonim phone: 1) ITALIAN Network : "searching" Please kindly look at below 3 videos. They are self-explanatory. When ever I go to ITALY, I got this recurrent issue: my Sonim "searching" continusly I cannot even switch off my sonim. it is just getting "mad". This happen only with any Italian network. I have been to the following countries and my sonim works well: Hong-Kong, Macao, Singapore, China, France, Germany, Austria. 2) Not possible to change preferences ( Priority ) In the Menu - Settings - Network settings - PREFERENCES, I mean, In some Geneva aera, we can get French networks as well as the Swiss one. It is just impossible to setup the prefererences ( for instance Swiss one ), each time I do I got the message : "Unfinished" Consequently, my sonim just get the newtork with the strongest signal. I have the strong feeling that above "searching" issue is related to "Preferences". In the preferences folder, I have a lot of predefined networks. For instance, some Russian, country I have never been to. I think that those pre-defined network, the italians one have wrong "data" in them and whenever I go to Italy, . . . . I actually cannot even Delete pré-setup network : I got systematically "Unfinished" 3) My sonim does not keep my out-going SMS messages. Menu - Messages - Outbox - >>> nothing 4) Key 3 DEF + Key 6 MNO Most of the time both are not lighted , or sometimes they blink and then idle. Please kindly let me know what action you wish to take. Looking forward to your kind reply, Best regards, Pascal

  • Ok so after 3 months banging my head off the wall here is the reply I received from Sonim this week. Thank you very much for purchasing the ultra rugged Sonim XP5300! The GPS application City Cruiser is unfortunately no longer available for installation from the vendor Atlas CT. The app had been provided by Atlas CT as trialware, and they decided not to continue the offer. The Sonim phones support mobile Java (J2ME), and other GPS applications like mgmaps or trekbuddy may run on the Sonim as well, but we have not tested any specific GPS app. I apologize for the inconvenience. Please let me know if you have any questions. Thank you! So as consumer's where now do we stand! as city cruiser was included with original product, and as you see no replacement application,

  • Bought this xp5300 2 months ago, cant get citycruiser or maps to work contected Sonim tec help told me I am not the first with this prob seems it passed quality control without city cruiser installed, anyone know if I can install this myself, when I try from the phone it tells me java app cannot be verified, anyone else have this prob or a solution as I bought this phone for gps feature, Thanks

  • @Huwy Your problem is Bluetooth firmware issue, I had the same problem (phone initially pairing to in-car system, but then immediately disconnecting-seemed to be related to downloading contacts) and it was solved by a firmware update to the 'phone.

  • I receently purchased A Sonim XP5300 which sells under Landrover S2, but when I use the blue toothe hands free connection, it connects then disconnects immediately. THe company I bought it off, Sonim and Landrover just sending me round in circles blaming each other, and not wanting to do anything about it.

  • Tha battery life is truly dissapointing, my XP3300 discharges within 30 hours on standby alone, with the screen turned down, GPS, GPRS etc off. "Repaired twice" still the same. Nonplussed.

  • had for 2 weeks: looks, feel, and works as advertised. obviously if you want a phone for web browsing, this phone is not designed for that.

  • echo problem,can t repair

  • will this mobile work in India

  • please pleases do not buy this phone faulty xp5300 eco problem 5 times send for service still problem waste £350

  • The battery can last for 6 weeks without turning it off? That nearly 2 month! I'm surely gonna buy this phone today !!!

  • bought my one in early June 2012 and had to charge every 100hours, no apps or GPS running and only in 2G mode. Speaker is very dump. The external one is very good. Also it sometimes "forgott" the micro sd 16GB class 10 card, so you had to swicht it on and off several times until card was checked. Since 2 1/2 weeks it is now at Sonim Germany support and after their softwareupdate failed, the decided to send me a new one. I am not the only one having problems (the others have on/off switching problems) and right now 20 guys wait for replacing phones, but Sonim Germany does not get any from the states. By the way, the software is made in India, phone is built in China and the board comes from the U.S. - no wonder. By German law you get it 3time repaired, after that money back, so will see where I will end up. Only bought that device due to long battery, but my old 6233i is still better

  • total disaster...the phone is not working in germany !!! switches on and off !! all the time THIS PHONE IS TOTALY CRAB !!

  • Does it support Arabic keybord

  • There are 2 versions: European: UMTS 2100/1700/900 American: UMTS 2100/1900/850

  • did he suport hibrue

  • I must say that I have one XP5300 for 6months now and it works great! No problem at all. If you have any problem with it, just ask Sonim for an exchange.

  • I read and heard a lot of bad reviews of this model. Just wondering, will Sonim somehow fix its problems or will continue selling people this obviously faulty device?

  • Can I disable 3G mode on this phone ?

  • Out of the box it looped on and off. Apparently it can manage 3G and operates only on 2G Customer service sucks. GPS can't fix the position. Wish I didn't buy it.

  • Do not buy this phone if you want a long-life battery! I bought this phone because it said in the advertisement that the battery can last for nearly two months! That is not true! If you leave the phone three and turned on without using it, maybe last for six weeks (I tried it!). but if you use it daily, the battery only lasts three days! I am very disappointed with the battery!

  • I just realized that the battery of this phone is not as good as Sonim advertised. When I bought the phone, the battery came with a performance of only one week standby. I sent the phone to customer service one month after the purchase, and they said there is nothing wrong with the phone but gave a new battery. Now the battery last only one week long again. I am consider selling the phone. The phone is waterproof, but maybe that is the reason decreasing the battery life as well. I am disappointed with Sonim.

  • I do not have a XP 5300 Force 3G but have an older model the XP 3 Quest. Have had untold problems - first speaker broke, software freezing up. Replacement phone has speaker broken twice now. Various other colleagues also have Sonim phones and have experienced additional problems. not a phone make to be recommended

  • The battery can last a very long time. My 5300 3g CAN LAST for over three weeks for one charge. I talk every day with it for about thirty minutes. Rogers only has 1300, so you can buy other models online such as Amazon.com. I bought mine 5300 3g ONLINE.

  • i want to ask about the the battery if it can hold for 22 h as they say

  • Will this phone work on the Rogers 3G network in Canada? Or even the 2G? I live in British Columbia and Rogers is the only selling the xp1300 Core, but I need a camera on the phone for work so I was thinking of getting either the 5300 or the 3300. Any advice would really help. Cheers!

  • I already sent the device back to Sonim Canada waiting for their test results. The battery may not as good as it advertises.

  • go to setting, and click at network setting. then, click at gprs connection and go to when needed.. or go to setting, and click at agps settings. you change status agps to off

  • how to turn off GPS? I never turned on GPS actually. Now the battery only last for four days and I didn't even do anything costs energy. Is this normal or I should send it back under the warranty? Thank you guys! I really want to know is it my phone's problem or it is normal. The specification says the standby time is aroung 1950 hours so I assume it should last way longer than my phone does.

  • To find about Sonim XP5300 force 3G in Malaysia, please visit

  • How much this phone cost?, thank you...

  • Turn off GPS and Your battery will last for days. Try it and let me know about battery life results.

  • Does anyone knows how to make the phone plays WMA music files?

  • Just bought this phone. Everything is amazing. haven't drop it or wash it yet, but believe it can survive. The only thing I have concern about is the battery life is not as long as it advertised. Is it just mine or it is everyone?

  • I saw that phone during the launch of Sonim Malaysia. Amazing performances! the real Hummer phone! I am planning to buy a bunch of these phones for me and my staff
