i have been using this phone since 2006 and its working perfect with the original battery, i even dropped it a lot of times from high places up to 3 meter high from the ground and nothing happened to it, not to mention the insanely amount of times i stepped on it :D, still working fine, best none smart phone ever made

As this mobile dosen't have USB connectivity; u can't connect it to PC for browsing net. But if u want to access the net through mobile then it works good. U just have to download the internet setting from ur service provider, then it works fine with internet. It's browsing speed is also nice.

This is an awesome phone (for the people who expect just vocal connectivity) although no special features loaded this robust piece is quiet user friendly and easy to handle...i've been using it for three years and i've literally dropped it countless times..very sturdy.. wats bad bout this phone is tht it can hold just 200 no's in its memory (and another 180 can be saved on the SIM)..so u've to restrict to around 350-380 no's!! i've been using this phone for almost 3 years.. the fm is good.. battery is pretty bad.. i've reduced the brightness to nil and keep it in silent mode.. still battery lasts only for one and a half days.. the talktime is between 2 to 2 and a half hours.. the loud speaker is also not so good.. it restarts quite often when i message continuously for an hour.. sometimes the contacts in phone memory gets deleted and the phone settings go back to the assigned factory settings.. the keypad is pretty hard to press and produces sound which annoys me a lot.. my dad uses the same phone.. he too has the same problems.. but his battery lasts for about 4 or 5 days.. he never messages and talks for a maximum of 5 mins everyday..

i have been using this phone for 1 and half years now, goods that can be highlighted --its sound quality on earphone is good --hanged only twice --droped 8 to 9 times working fine only the back cover came off --now in market there are many better phones available so this review may not help much bads-theres a big list --listening volume is too low for comfort when ur in crowded place its too tough to talk --keys makes sounds on typing ,annoying to others in a quiet place --no search for contacts,only can search via letters --hands free gets loose after repeated use,quiet trick problem --sliver coating on the centre dial goes off in three months --when u take the sim or battery out ,u loose all ur messages,this was very annoying, --recently it makes a sound like terrrrrrrr when u dial a number n its not connected,it goes off imediately or it requires the battery to be removed[veery ocasionally but] --battery i cant comment as i had the habbit of recharging it when it was half or only little bit empty --currenty its 2days stand by,and 2hrs talk time continious,thats all --fm goes for 6hrs continous --better dont on the speaker,the battery vanishes quiet rapidly --thats all folks hope u liked it now i will be shifting to w810i as im a great music lover , n my preference is gd sound and capacity for my limitless colletion of songs with a bit camera work as well have a nice day

i bought this model on june 2007. the headset started giving problems about three months later. it is not even one year,but i have to change its motherboard twice , and still the problems like restarting by itself,hanging,etc still there.

been using this phone for two years. Dropped it numerous times but it's still doing great, save for occasional malfunctions such as hanging or indecipherable mobile numbers. Radio feature is great, but it sucks that it's not Java-compatible, meaning no other games for me except the installed ones. Highly durable but the sim-card slot is tight, it damages the sim.

Hi I'm using Sony Ericsson J230i for past six months. It bad exp for me. We can't connect data cable with this model. Battery life is short. Radio is excellent. Poly tones which is downloading from the co. site is only audiable. Tell to u'r friends and others do not buy this mobile.

sony j230i this is the worst phone i used. random sounds (radio waves) coming from speaker randomely ,after unloking the key and pressing the "no" button the sound stops , and the battery backup also so poor, daily i have to recharge .the adoptor using a peculiar connector like data cable it is rare type and i hate to carry the phone with me.if i want to see the call history it plays eyes-spice raising my blood pressure.while dialing if delay for few seconds keylock locks automatically ,the time gap is to small(not adjustable). I have activated GPRS on Dolphin (Mumbai). Go to the mtnl website (might not work for Delhi) , Alternatively, use the Sony Ericsson Site, which will work for any country & city : Remember that WAP/GPRS is a paid service so you will have to get your mobile operator to start the servive as well (For dolphin, all you need to do is send a SMS - call 1500 from a landline for the MTNL helpline & find out the details. Going on to the Phone itself, I found the phone quite good for the price. The Phone was purchased for my wife. She is very impressed with the radio/speakerphone quality - it is clearer than any other phone of any other manufacturer, period.It is also Louder than 90% of most phones, although some Nokia phones are louder (but not clearer).I use a W 810i & it is clearer than even that...(Unless I plug in the portable speakers of the 810i - Then the 810 is far superior) - Note well - accessories for other SE phones DO NOT work with the J230i - such as the aforementioned speakers, & also the data cable/software etc. The J230i is deliberately designed to be unable to use accessories of other SE phones. However, you can update it's software & use other such facilities through its GPRS connection.

Hi friends, The SMS I receive are getting stored in some memory but when I load another SIM, all messages are lost and I don't get them back even if I switch back to old SIM. Hi All, I bought this cell, Sony Ericsson j230i just 2 days back. I tried using calling card to make interantional calls but failed to do so.After entering the correct pin number it is saying that the pin number is invalid. I called the customer care people and found that this phone does not support calling cards. But one of my friend told who was using this cell told me that it supports calling cards. I just got this phone three days ago. Yes it has lots of bugs :D I've discovered them already. The bugs including the reminder thingy, or not forget to mention the text style won't go the way we set 'em to on SMS text. And wow another one when we try to add picture MMS. Just scroll down, and u'll see weird clone of a part of menu selection in white background. But I still kinda love this phone, it has nice look, small fonts (which make the screen looks big), cute graphics, and the screen can display up to 6 rows. Not so bad... ;)

I can afford to have a good one but Mobile snatchers neva allow me to do that..... This mobile is meant for simplicity, basic communication and little fun.... I bought few casings for ma J230i.... Looks cool in its new outfits that's one pro.... FM features r good...Specially the option mono and sterio...very handy for frequent users like me....... One precaution....removing ur sim then inserting another cost u a loss of missed recieved call record,and groups u have made from ur phone book....

I have a J230i. I have found that stored sms not erased when battery or SIM card removed. SMS erased only when you replace with a new SIM card. Solution is to store the sms you want to SIM (limit of 30 sms). Phone numbers are directly stored to SIM and when SIM is full (between 210-250 numbers)they are then stored in phone memory (up to 500 numbers). Call list numbers are directly stored to SIM. My j230i hangs and/or reboots when I select "yes" or press on joystick when the screen shows the list of tasks to view. I think it is a software bug. I bypass it by selecting "help" menu (key under "yes" key) and clicking on edit of the task I want to view. Hope this helps someone :-).

I am having problem with my J230i. When switched on, the screen starts to blink after say 10 seconds. I have to switch off and on everytime to see the screen. This is a regular/recurring problem. I hve bght J230i on 20 Oct,2006.And i feel that this phone has very good sound qualty of FM,g8loudspeaker,app.Twice the volume than 6030.But it has some gr8 limitations also that whenever u change your sim card from it and put it later u will found all ur sms lost and not recoverable again.No Datacable support,Very less memory,No PC Connectivity.. Overall this phone never proves a good choice for anyone who wants this feachers...

I have this phone ,This phone is good but not better than Nokia 6030.Though cheap but u have to look at the basic things which should be in a low end phone..like Nokia 6030 has java support,3MB of memory,Supports USB cable but J230i phone does not support these things and hence a looser... i would suggest u to buy Nokia 6030...But Nokia 6030 does not have a internal MODEM for GSM Dial up connection for internet..All u can do with the cable is to transfer data like ring tones, pics,themes...So if u want internet by connecting ur phone vit computer then i would suggest u to buy J300i but it does not have FM....So u will never find a phone vit all funtionlalities in low end segments....

TO ALL WHO OWN J230i....... FAULT !!! I've bought this phone couple of months before and discovered below problem. When you set reminder for tasks and appointments, it rings with built in ring tone, which don't hear at all !!! But vibrating... so if you are luckey you have a phone when it ringing. Otherwise you will miss the appointment or task :-( TOO BAD !!! I thought this is a fault in my phone. So I've did the same in one of my friend's J230i, but result is the same. It will ring twice with small volume you can't hear at all... and blinking display for long time. So you have to watch your phone all the time or set vibrator and keep phone touching you all the time (even when you go to toilet and do the thing... you know...) WHAT A STUPID DESIGN !!! So.. if you have this model.. please check what I've said and post a comment. It will help lot of others.... THANKS !!!

There is no data cable available for this phone.Only SE service people know how to change the SW for it.Even thou if u come across the DAta cable pls letme know. My e-mail is [email protected] FOR SNEHA JUST type the phone number then press the option button which is just below the Yes button after pressing option button u will get the "Add number option" just click on it & then type the NAme of the person. by doing this u will save the no in sim memory. to transfer all the nos. to phone memory go to phonebook---then options---then in that select "Copy from SIM".by doing this the nos r not deleted from Sim memory so u have to do it manually. FOR ringtone u can download any MIDI TONE/ poly tone in this phone thru GPRS.I think this will help u.

hi, just bought this phone some days back, i also have a Nokia 3230, but wanted a cheaper phone due to thefts in my city, anyways, I had some choices like Motorola C168, Sony Ercisson J230i, Samsung X210, Motorola W220. Then in another Phone Review "Sandynator" guided me to this one, and iam glad, thanx Sandynator for guiding. It has great FM Quality, Sound Quality, Reception is good, and display is nice :) Just one problem, cant connect to Computer (or can we ???), still thinking of trying to find its Data Cable since there must be some way to transfer stuff on it ... otherwise how is the software changed !!! It would be easier to transfer tones, since GPRS has many dependencies. even though i have tried GPRS also and that is also great :)

Hi all, am using this mobile for past 4 months. FM is great. The only problem am facing is msgs in ph memory are deleted when the battery is removed. For better battery life Reduce the display brightness, turn off Cell information. Avoid using vibration as possible. Worth for the money.

For HUSSAIN U R phone has older Software version. Visit the SE Service centre & change The Software & then see the difference. I had faced few prob somtimes like Restarting & poor Microphone sound(sometimes other people were not able to hear me). These probs r corrected After updating the software. I bought this phone 4 months ago.I was very excited at first but later i was so disappointed because this phone is playing some tricks now.It often automatically restarts.Saved messages in the phone are deleted when SIM card is inserted after removing.Its battery life is maximum 1.5 days with normal usage.Its radio has very low volume when played through speakers.Its memory is too low.Above all its great disadvantage is that neither my voice is heard clearly to other person calling to me nor i can listen that person's voice clearly and sometimes I cannot even listen any voice of the person calling to me.I hope this review helps you.

Its a Great FM phone for cheap price. Few Qns/Thoughts: 1. How can I configure the phone to display time in idle mode(screen saver). Does this phone support it. Does the latest software update has this or is Sony Ericcson planning for it. This is a badly needed feature. 2. How can I get display intimation of missed calls/messages on idle screen. Basically in idle mode the sreen is completely blank. 3. The battey lasts for 2 days only. It does not fit into the 300 hrs standby/6 hrs talk time. Anything speacial has to be done to achieve it?

Reduce the screen brightness as low as possible...i have my own wid only one level up...battery lasts for 4 days...while listening fm 2-3 hours daily n half hour talk average... to reduce brightness go to Setting > Display > Brightness... Hi, I have just bought this phone. it looks very cool but i have one serious problem with it so plz someone out there help me.I have saved all the contacts in sim but when any sms come from my contact it just shows number and no name, which creates alot of problem for me in recognizes the sender of message. even i tried after copying all the contacts to my phone but it never shows the name. the only way i worked out is to save the contact when the sms comes through the options in text messaging, which is a very hactic and time consuming procedure and also require all my contacts to send me message. so pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeez help who knows the solution of my problem.

To my point of view this has a very good facility in hearing FM on headphones, but the loudspeaker sound is very low and poor. I think it should have a good loud speaker. Anotherthing more the charger did not satisfy me , sometimes it is unable to wther mobile is charged or not. I have bought one of these phones and i found a lot of usefull facilities missing compared to old model T230. For example text size is fixed and too small, also there is no clock display in the screen saver mode and also the screen woould fade away very quicly maybe 2 or 3 sec which is too fast and also not adjustable. Finally the phone autolock would come on very quicly in the auto mode and after unlocking pressing the menu button or the yes button the first time didn't do anything and needed pressing it a second time so i rejected it! Anybody else had similar problems?

good one for average moblie users. FM is very good. I need some technical advice regarding a problem which I am facing. This is regarding 'Cell information- ON' under the menu 'messaging' The tower name is not displaying at all times. Sometimes it displays then suddenly it will go and displays after 1 or 2 days.If I am moving from one tower to another tower sometimes the tower name will not automatically change. How this is happening? I hope somebody can share their experience regarding this problem. Needless to say Nokia phones are too good for displaying 'cell information'.

After upgrading software in SE J230i loudspeaker volume has increased & is louder than nok6030.FM RECEPTION is EXCELLENT definately better than NOK6030.Fm sound is the best in this phone(IT BEATS ALL THE PHONES IN THIS SEGMENT for FM SOUND CLARITY)Nok6030 is no way near to it.NOK6030 & NOK2310 has worst FM QUALITY

The phone is gr8. Bought for 3350 INR. I checked out Motorola C168 and Nokia 6030 along with this. Nokia was out of consideration coz it was too expensive(3850 INR) and I have had bitter experiences with nokia phones in the past. Motorola C168 display is very bad. I was considering it only till I took it in my hand and after looking at its cheap display, it was completely out of consideration. However, there are a few shortcomings/limitations in SE j230i. Ppl wanting to buy this phone might wanna check out.. 1. When u press down navigation key to search phonebook and call someone, only 1 character phonebook search is possible. You cannot search names starting with more than one character, i.e. if u press R u go to names starting with R, but u cannot search for names staring with 'RA'. But u can go to phonebook menu, select "FIND AND CALL" and use multiple characters to search a name. 2. The phone doesnt allow you to select manually where contacts are stored. By default, they are stored in SIM card. When SIM card memory is used up, then they are stored in phone memory. 3. You have only max 13 characters to store name in phonebook. 4. No option to delete all the contacts in SIM card at one go. 5. Difficult to program speed dials. But overall, these limitations hardly matter, and if you are willing to spend 400-500 rupees more, this phone is much better phone than C168. Some things I found great in this phone... 1. Very good display. 2. Very good calander. 3. I hardly use radio but it sounds great. 4. Speakerphone volume is very good. Radio sounds very good on speakerphone. 5. Handsfree shipped with the phone is very good.

NO! u cannot connect it to PC. There is no DATA CABLE for it. IF U want to transfer anything connect it thru WAP Browser. U can save pic on ur SE ACCOUNT created on their web site & then can transfer it to ur phone thru WAP.

as said earlier look wise motto scores more feature wise both have more or less same features u can get details on there respective sites. but few imp. point to take into consideration while making ur choice...... 1. no speaker phone for motto. se j230i has speaker but not as good as nokia 6030 2. motto boasts of having 65k colours & has tft/lcd screen, even after having this feature display is really poor similar to 4096k display. se j230i has stn display & 65000k display (in grid view display is not good, but in single icon menu display is quite good)further there are many freebees like themes,wallpapers(also moving), ringtones on se website.as per my findings se score more in display part even though it has stn display.both phone have 128x128 pixels/ display. in daylight/ sunlight u cannot view se j230i display as it is stn(for standby) & dull if keys activated. 3. fm sound clarity/quality--- good for motto excellent for se j230i fm sound reception --- poor for motto again excellent for se j230i 4 moto has wap 2 /xhtml browser & se has wap1.2.1 (i don't have any idea, but i think moto will be bit faster) any one who have this knowledge please share. i have used wap on my j230i speed & download is quite good. 5 battery back up--- for moto upto 340hrs standby & talktime upto 9hrs 30min.(as per manufacturers)fm consumes lot of battery. for se stand by upto 280hrs & talktime upto 6hrs(as per manufacturer) i am using my se j230i without charging for 2 whole days(fm for 3 hrs per day) for prolong battery use keep the keypad tones of, brightness to zero, do not fiddle . further go through my review on se j230i on this site & on www.mouthshut.com my suggestions..... if fm is not ur choice(fm least imp.) then go for nokia 6030 everything is good i.e. battery, memory about 2-3 mb, downloadable games also if u want only good display go for samsung c230(no idea about fm),battery life is pathetic,ir reception does not works, good memory 2-3 mb, can download games etc..etc.. moto c168 (radio motto) & sony ericsson j230i are close compititors,but as per earlier comparision mentioned sony ericsson j230i rules & out performs moto c168 (radio motto)without any doubts in minds moto looks good (thats the reason it is appealing many consumers),but it is is not sturdy (badily built)back cover over a period of time makes a cracking sound, glossy colours on cheap plastic body will fade gradually, poor headsets provided compared to other models in moto category, headset looks cheap. only because of cheap price people are running for it... my sincere advice to them please pay few hundreds more enjoy the pleasure of se j 230i.you will never regret after using it listining to its fm sound clarity.no other phone in this category will give u such an outstanding fm sound quality & reception.i can bet on this one.

15 days have passed since I bought this phone. I bought it for Rs. 3,400/- Compact, light and handy design 10/10 At this price it has all the features like good battery life, FM of great quality... bass, treble..., GPRS, picture call, speaker phone. Once when I was hearing FM, I recieved a call. When I answered it the person on that side could not properly hear when I was talking through the headset otherwise the sound quality is excellent. The Display and color scheme is truly awesome! Then once when I was listening FM, I thought of playing games simultaneosly (the games are boring! Quadra Pop and Minigolf :( ) But then FM was turned off. So i didn't play game. I thought of sending MMS. Then when I removed the headset before exiting radio... the phone hanged. I broke my head to open the back cover and removed and placed the battery. Its speaker is ok, not so loud. In daylight the screen is not clearly visible whereas in dark it acts as a torch, believe me! Features 8/10 Else, excellent phone. Text messaging consists of animation, picture, sound. Phonebook has a function that when someone will call the picture of the person will appear if added and assigned to the entry. Comparing with Radio Moto C168, its competitor, SE J230i doesn't contain workd clock and battery meter. But as I'm not going china, Japan or Russia it is ok and for battery meter you ask... the battery indication on the standby mode provides a detailed 5 levels with color code like when 2 levels are remaining then yellow color 1 then red and else green. So that's also not the problem. Therefore, I would recommend this phone against C168 as its display is disgusting whereas J230i's display and all other functions are impressive. Performance 9/10 As on today 4th Aug 2006 Phone Price Radio Moto C168 Rs. 2,990 SE J230i Rs. 3,400 So I don't see why SE J230i should not be bought. Nice phone :)

i bought this cell for fm & no doubt its fm is awosome, one line for it... out of this world...i have been around with other cell phones of the same prize tag... for example Nokia 2300, 6030 have mono fm and of average quality, but Fm of SE J230i is Excellent...as it ends the limits... other features r also good... sound quality in earpiece is excellent... incall timers & call summary...sms delivery reports...overall a very good mobile... one more thing moto C168 has poor fm quality comapare to this cellphone other features of moto are not worthy ...very very bad display... cheap plastic body ... but J230i is the best buy... i recommend it for all who want a fm radio phone.

I am using J230i since from one month. The sound of FM is low when we switch to load speaker mode. So In my opnion sound should be increased and memory also should be increased. More sound clearity should be there in the set.

Yesterday i bought this set i was going for Nokia but then i thought about j230i its cheaper and also got better radio but i am facing a problem with this set.. Now the problem is i m from Pakistan so we store our Cell nos like this for example this is Ali's No 0300-555555 this is how its saved in phone book but when we receive a sms it comes like this +92300555555 the phone doesn't recognize this no as alis no if u dun save the no with full country code.. i have never faced prob like this with any other set and if u save the no with country code +92300555555 then when Ali calls me his cli shows 0300555555 and the phone doesn't recognize this no.. Anyone else facing this kind of problem ?

Hi Guyessss.... I am using this phone now from 3 months now. I Bought the SE J230i Coz of Stereo FM, & no doubt FM rocks. I'd Few problems with the reception in this. Then I sent the phone to serivce & an SE service center, & they said that it is because this phone has an old software in few sets, so they has callibarated the software & this showed some instent positive effects, first the FM volume on Speaker has increased same with the speaker vol. of a call. The reception problem is with some perticular network mostly with IDEA & DOLPHIN users, as i was using an Idea SIM thus was facing this trouble, but I am not sure about this fact. I am still using IDEA but after calliberation reception problam is not that much. Well over all With SE J230i my experience was - average. If you want to have one go for it coz FM is AWSOME....... THANXXXX.....

motto c168 has slightly good battery life than se j230i. display of motto is very poor even thou it has LCD/TFT display. FM Reception is poor for motto. sound is good (bass & treble are Equally poised) SONY ERICSSON J230i is Overall EXCELLENT PHONE. Excellent FM reception & sound.No other Phone in this Segment can match its sound Quality.(Good BAss) (Ican bet on this one). thou it has STN Display, it looks much better than motto 168.(I have compared it) Only draw back is its looks(but not really bad) I am using it for 4months without any problem Battery lasts for 2 whole day (using FM for about 3hrs a day) Further u can go thru my review for Sony ERICSSON J230i on this site or on mouthshut .com QUERIES & questions ARE ALWAYS WELCOME.. I've been using this phone fr 4 months now......it never gave me problems....the FM is good...ringtones r loud n clear.......but last night I had a strange problem.......worst I wud say. I sent a SMS n my fone got hanged. I rebooted by removing the battery......then wat I saw that all my fone memory had erased......All my SMS and the contacts on the fone memory got erased... Well guys hav anyone faced this issue wit any of the fone before? Can the data be recovered? I'm pissed off with this fone....wil buy a new one soon.....

I Got bored with my old nokia phone & so I Decided to go for a new phone with FM Tuner. While making a choice I had in my mind NOKIA 6030, SAMSUNG C230 & SONY ERICSSON J230i. (By that time i was unaware of RADIO MOTTO i.e. MOTOROLA C168) I rejected nokia because of POOR FM Audio Quality (MONO FM) & SAmsung (thou it has Stereo FM)because of poor battery life & one MOre imp. drawback in sam is its ringtones are not loud initially. If u keep phone on ring & vibrator mode , initially it vibrates for 2 OR 3 times & ringtone is not audible. The volume of ringtone gradually increases & there are chances u may even miss a call if the phone is in other room. so, now that u know why I bought this phone , let me tell u the features of this beauty. SE J230i has 500 phonebook & 250 SMS.It has MMS, GPRS Class 10,speaker phone, WAP 1.2.1 ........The phones Sound reception is good,it is quite easy to use (there are many misconceptions in minds of people about SE Phones like it is not user friendly, hangs in middle of operation. Believe me! It is not so. I have used this phone for 3 months without finding any prob.)u can download ringtones, picture message,themes & wallpapers(also moving wallpapers). I have used WAP & gprs services on this phone .the speed of the phone is good.there are many free downloads for this phone on sonyericsson.com. u can avail this facility after free registration.(u should activate gprs& wap ) The battery life of this phone is good . battery lasts for 2 days without charge using FM for 3hours a day. the display is larger than nok6030 & clear FM Quality & Reception is excellent. the company provides the headsets that are provided with sony ericsson K750i (the phone best known for its sound, cam.... etc.) NO Other phone in this segment can give u such FM Audio Quality. I can bet on it..(I have not compared Samsung C230 with this, but i believe sony ericsson J230i will outperform it. After all its sony, best known for sound) I stay in mumbai & i frequently travel in trains from thane to VT & churchgate to borivali listining to FM channel.The FM Reception in train is good. If u sit in quiet room (where radio signal reception is good ) or walking on street with FM on U will only listen to music around you & nothing else.It feels as if there are speakers around u & you are walking in between.(BEWARE & KEEP UR eyes open on road as u r prone to accident) It can play all frequencies of sound quite well (for e.g. bass , treble etc.) I won't compare it's sound with sony ericsson K750i as it is a class apart phone. The ringtones are quiet loud & soothing to ears. u cannot miss a call.good vibrator. NOW about the drawback ............. It has limited memory about 500 to 600 kbs only compared that of nok6030 (2mb) &sam 230 (2to3 mb). so there is a problem of what to download.Display becomes dull in sunlight as it is standard display & not TFt but u can view it . in standyby mode u cannot view the screen. for game lovers it is a disappointment as u cannot download games (2to 3 games are preloaded) There is no Dictionary if u are used to one. Major drawback what i feel is its looks because of the cheap looking plastic button & a orange backlight. Sony could have improved that. pricing is good. there should be 3.5mm jack instead of fast port which serves both charging as well headset jack. If u Are ready to compromise on looks like me this phone will give u good performance. Near competitor for this phone is radio motto (motorola c168) only because of price factor & little bit of good looks I repeat again only because of price factor & little bit of good looks . Let me tell u something about its competitor radio motto (motorola c168) five days back my friend purchased this phone & i got a chance to compare it . BELIEVE ME GUYS the FM RECEPTION IS not good as i have compared it in mumbai 's train as it did not catch all frequencies. there is lot of disturbances. you have to move the phone from left to right & up & down to get good recption .quality of FM sound is good compared nokia 6030 as there is stereo FM. ON a close look the phone has a cheap plastic body covered with glossy colours as it can fade out gradually. on thi s site i have read a review that it has good head sets & that person had compared the mottos sound with that of sony ericsson K750i . it is completely a false statement. BELIEVE ME sony ericsson K750i is a class apart phone,not even an N70 can match its sound. radio motto (motorola c168) or nokia 6030 does not have a good bass as it is a crucial factor while listining to music. more over the headsets provided with motto are very cheap looking. Beacause of a cheap plastic body covered with glossy colours which can fade out gradually & very cheap looking headsets the cost of motto is less. but FM RECEPTION is POOR. It does not have speaker phone. If u Are ready to compromise on looks & ur budget is less like me this phone is for u guys. Instead of going for radio motto (motorola c168) shell out few hundred rupees more if u are an avid FM LISTENER like me & go for SONY ERICSSON J230i. you will not regreat after listening to its FM SOUND QUALITY & RECEPTION. If BUDGET IS NOT A CONSTRAINT STRAIGHT AWAY GO FOR SE K750i OR OTHER SE WALKMAN PHONES. HOPING THAT U WILL APPRECIATE MY EFFORTS GIVE A FEEDBACK.

stero quality in headset is not good in my set, compared to one of my friend. change of mono/stero in radio options not different except slight increase in volume. fm broadcast here is stero.ask the service centre it is depends on the software revision and the phone is ok,he is telling. i am not satisified. can any one tell separate secret setting is there? display changes mono/stero, when i am changing in radio option.my friends headset changed with my phone, still same effect. can any one tell TEMPO setting in composer also?

Dear friends! One good thing which I forgot to mention was that buying a non-camera phone is better than buying a non-camera phone of Nokia. This is so becos' u can upload ur choice of photos on SE's site member area and then download them to ur phone through gprs. Sound quality of SE is also good as compared to Nokia's. But still I am going to buy Nokia 6131 as soon as I found a suitable buyer for my SE J230i. Pray that I get rid of it soon.

I m using the phone from last two weeks. No doubt the FM is realy good. But I m facing some Problems while sending messages, you cann't use phonebook while sending messages. if you don't know the number you can't send the messages. so I can send the messages just to few numbers, coz i can't remember so many numbers. Speaker phone volume is not loud enough, same with FM on speaker.

I was on the look out for an entry/mid range phone with SPEAKER PHONE, 65K COLOR & POLY TONES. After going through the reviews on the Web, including those on GSMARENA, I shortlisted Nokia 6030/1600, SE K300/J300/J230 & LG G1800. At the end of the day, it was either N 6030 or SE J230, both of which are at the same price level & also boasted of FM Radio, in addition to my requirements. Finally I purchased SE J230 today. My overall impression is that it is a big disappointment. PROs: Aesthetic looking compared to N6030. FM Radio is Stereo, where as it is Mono in N6030. CONs: PHONE BOOK is said to have a max capacity of 500nos. However, the fine print is that each entry can have only TWO FIELDS, the Name & the Phone No. DISPLAY is a big letdown. There are no animated Icons. Though the display boasts to be 128x128 & 65K color, it fares very poor when compared to instruments and is not at all satisfactory. I have noticed that Display in the Instruments from LG & SAMSUNG are very much more attractive. SMS Editor. The choice of font type & size is confounding. You need to take great pains to read the messages. I have noticed this problem in an earlier model too, T190, if I remember correctly. RING TONES are next. It is said to have 32 tone Ring Tones. However, there are only about 10 builtin ones and the quality is no great shakes either. No COMPOSER. No CALENDER display. And finally the SPEAKER PHONE feature. There seems to be no convenient way to activate the feature, in the middle of a conversation. Overall, I was left wondering, what on earth made me buy this instrument. In hindsight, I feel, I should have gone for Nokia 6030, or alternatively shelled out a little more ie, about 5-5.5k and got a N6020 or Motorola L6 or L2. Alas. Better Luck next time.

WOW. What s beauty. 1- 65k STN Colors, Good Display just like TFT. 2- FM is Steareo. 3- Sound Quailty of FM is Superb. 4- Wallpaper Animation. 5- Possibly to Download Themes. 6- Memory is very Low.just 650kb. but its enough for pics, midi tones and themes. 7- Battery timing is good. 8- keypad is very comfortable.

another is that dont bash other SE's phones aside that k700 and k750 are only good phones... please i have a k300 and it is far better than 7260,6020,6820 and other s40 phones. sound/camera quality?i have tested those phone and 7260 is blurred and sound is poor i can prove it. 7260,6020 are expensive too much compare to my k300 which is feature-packed with mp3 and 12 mb memory! i just add $28 and i have radio headset to beat 7260 radio. k300 video is the best in it's class unlimited to memory compare to nokia 15-50 seconds... joystick? you think SE's joystick is worst? then try 6600 and 3230 then find it yourself... p-series cannot be overcome by n-series you stop insisting that nokia are the best smartphone makers here. full of buggs and errors and half a year before correcting it.. how rude... compare to p-series well developed even late very stable... and other k/w-series are far more better than nokia's high end. in sound quality and camera and other stuffs. remember java is the supeior feature in SE (3D engine) compare to nokia's series 40 (sluglish) i can post 100 reasons to make people stay away with nokia's phones and symbians those are just some...

asim i totally disagree to your opinion and please be not so rude in making opinions did you read the rules before posting? this phone is the best low-end. do you think 1600 and other low-end phones of nokia are better? look closely if you think 500kb is too short then what can you do with the 4mb memory of the 1600,2310,2610 without GPRS,IRDA,USB,HSCSD,MMS or anything that the memory are worth to use for stuffs for that phone. you cannot even use the 4mb memory of it because basically it's nothing but a 1100,2100,2300 with a colored screen and radio only nothing more. j230 has FM radio and GPRS so the 500kb is worthy that you can put stuffs on that phone you are bashing unlike nokia's expensive low-end phone still inferior to SE's low end

please dont buy this phone waste of money i waste my 4500 pk Rs on this phone design look like toy plastic. and many people hate orange keypade light. menu and joystick is not user friendly when u make shortcut of "phone book numbers list" and accedently press center joypad it directly start calling nummber. if u want to buy non camera phone buy NOKIA 1600 no FM or buy new NOKIA 2310 with FM both phones r good look and Plz dont buy sony ericcson non camera phones Nokia and siemens rocks only 2 sony ericcson r good k700i and k750i dont buy P110i and other sony ericcson PDA BRAND other wise u lose ur money on product

another phone under 100$ i think its FM is very good and sound quality is excellent,features are very simple but big ? on its connectivity with pc still i have not found its cable and the biggest problem i am facing right now is its reception i dont know weather it is in my phone or a manufacturing fault so be careful b4 purchasing

this phone is nice fone 2 look at but i say this phone is recommended for the average skool child. even though it aint even got a camera and 500kb memory it still is good for normal use.

one thing, i wasn't comparing, i mean, how can you compare a phone with heaps of features, to a phone for ppl who have just started phones???? this phone seems good for ppl who only care about ringing ppl, not what it can do, my nan, she doesn't care what a phone does, as long as it does the ringing job. plus, this phone is good enough for ppl who are on low money or for ppl who give phones to young kids, like some do.

This phone cannot be compared with W800i, this is a cheap reliable solution with less than the half price of w800i and 1/5 of Nokia business class, this phone is made for poor countries, for a second mobile(not the basic) and maybe for a gift to ur parents grandfathers, to replace phones with Monochrome display or even worse when dont have any mobile at all. it will be free with most of the contract connections...
