I bought mine 7 and a half years ago and it's still working. I've changed nothing. It came with a Li-Pol battery and is still able to keep the phone up for 3-4 days. I don't talk much on it. The only problem during the ages was the joystick. Sometimes it stops working but when I open it and clean the dust inside, it becomes almost as new. My wife just bought me a new phone (LG OPTIMUS 3D P920) and I don't know how I'll replace it with the SE K500. I really love it and it does all the things I need from a phone.

Even after 7 years, my SE K500i works like a charm. I only had to change the battery once. I've replaced the standard Li-Ion to a Li-Po, hopefully it will work fora couple of years more. It's a wonderful phone if you're looking for a simple mobile phone, not a all-in-one gadget.

I've had this phone for 4 and a half year, and it stil work well. It is a great phone. Design ( I don't have a regular one, I have this one ) is perfect! Only flaw is the joystick, it was good first two years... If it didn't skrach and had a memory stick and a little better camera, I wouldn't change it, ever. :) Sony Ericsson the best!

i like this handset..although it has no bluetooth, radio or so much memory capacity, what i really like is when i'm taking pictures...the images are great!!and the images i am capturing are stored because i am cherishing it.. i can also compare capturing pictures with LIFE..we often pose in a way we want to see and be seen..but sometimes, by taking stolen shots, we capture the better sides of ourselves.. ^_^

i agree its a decent set. its very robust. good network but gprs speed is not that high. as like all se joystick phones it does not work. i even had to change it once. i had to change da battery too. low java heap size. and damm 12mb:-(. i have been using this set 4 3 years. have tried to upgrade its firmware but failed in Bangladesh . can any one help of with that

sony ericsson k500i is just a simple mobile phone packed with very simple but useful applications. you will not be able to download many softwares here coz the phone memory is too small and limited...im sorry harvey but i can't answer your question its already been 2 yrs ago since i had my k500i phone, i think it would be better if your going to contact your network provider regarding with that concerb...:)

hi people i bought sony ericsson on clearance very cheap 40$ and the phone is really cool i had many brands cheap and expensive this phone it only lack of radio memory card and bluetooth but i got samsung e210 and it has all that but i like ericsson more it has great sound record. and good camera and easyer menu than samsung i had also sagem motorolas nokias (they have easy menu) but sony is a world brand and it briliant phone for simple people who use phone for basic staff and who love fun with music joystick is only part i dont like hard to move or it out of control other than that im happy with that cool phone chears sony ericsson even i sent last year to my mum one sony just basic one sony j100 and it still work in overseas.thanks

i had this phone for about three years already....i always threw my phone on the floor for fun but it works then one day i tried to throw it down the staircase and it still works....then my dog bite my phone when i was asleep but then i change the cover and it still works fine then i went to a golfcourse with my friends and i accidentally dropped it on the floor then th screen broke...how sad but hen i upgraded to a w810..soo now i am happy

Here is my rating on the k 500i: pros: 1. Sound quality that will put nokia 2 shame. 2. Orange backlight makes it look like the walkman series. 3. Quickshare although not so quick. 4. Games compatibility. 5. Camera that is interpooled to 1.3mp 6. Large but a bit pixelised screen. Cons: 1. No memory card 2. Camera sound 3. Connectivity

i got this phone as a present from my mum's friend, and it was one of the coolest phone, well before the K700. I got the K700i later on but i prefer the K500 more due to its youthful design, bigger screen, and better keypad. But the most annoying drawback is the Joystick. Definately the Joystick is the worse ever. Its rubbery/plastic and only lasts for months. And the quality of the silver frame around the screen and the joystick wears off easily, now it looks extremely crooked and cheap. The back cover latch on mine broke coz its exposed quite alot and just a small fall can easily break that plastic latch. But otherwise, awesome phone, good camera too. I think this was the first megapixel camera from SE, and it wasnt the S700. Coz it has the option to capture images above 640, such as 1280, which is a megapixel! the K700 doesnt have this feature. If they improved the Joystick and use normal solid colour frame, this could be the best phone ever.

I've nothing to complain but da joystick...i believe i'm a patient guy but sometimes patience has got its limit...esp when i'm typing Chinese characters, there is no other way to select next row of Chinese word except to press da joystick downward, and it gave me inward, causing select, then i have to choose English instead of Ch to reply my frens who use Ch, (sigh)... but I'm a SE fan!!! And it has never disappointed that new no-joystick phone has released, LONG-LIVE SE!!!

I have had this small phone for 2 and half years now. For a basic affordable phone like this i will say, its being great. Recently i downloaded opera mini 3.0 and i enjoyed internet browsing, email services, RSS feeds among other internet capabilities. This month i downloaded the latest opera mini beta 4.0! I can now browse the internet with pc like web page views. There is zoom capabilities etc. Am looking for a Smartphone now perhaps the n72.

I would never believe until I've got the result. I used this phone gently for 3 years now. The only problem I had was an old system version, which was updated later on at service center. I never use it's camera, so I don't complain about 0.6 Mega pixels. I also like that phone has sort of two speakers. For me it is really hard to miss a call, especially when using mp3 ring tones... Even in metro. I won't substitute it till it breaks down. I found, reliability is not inferior to Nokia.

The phone is just fine, everything works good (camera, mp3 player) but after a while (i think a quarter-year) my joystick refused to work. With this, a lot of functions get useless and unreichable. What allso would be a very good improvement, is bluetooth. I have it one year now, and now the recharging sometimes goes wrong. I've had it with this phone, think i'm going to buy the LG KG320.

i have been using this phone for last one and a half year, the joy stick is problematic, i am sick of it. the sound of camera is also very loud.i also dont like the orange light of key pad and the key pad is hard to push.there is no blue tooth. This phone is not recommended. I may be only 13, and this may be my first phone, but I am dissatisfied. The camera is grainy, especially under low light, and the resolution for video is terrible. The joystick literally requires one to bite it in order to get it moving, and the buttons are terrible when it comes to dialing and SMSing. This phone has an extremely low screen resolution, making it hard to read pages of text. WAP services are a gimmick, as you can hardly read text on the tiny screen.The camera makes an annoying shutter sound when taking a picture, and it is impossible to turn off. The lack of memory is also another major setback. Though the box claims 12 MB, in reality the phone memory is closer to six. No Bluetooth is available.

This is a very good phone. Very functional for a handsome teenager like me. The feautures are superb, the image qulaity is a great wonder as well as the video. The memory 12 mb, I think it's enough but I admit it's not that worth. But for a less expensive price than this phone, this is one of the best cellphones in the century not only in SE, but also overall units.

i got the k500i and its a really tough fone i must of droped it like 100 times and smashed it 4 times and put it back together and it worked fine! i've had the phone 4 about 2 or 3 years and after about a month i was able to use the navigation stick efectivly and easy.

Overall, a wonderful phone. The biggest minus is the navigator key, I couldn't navigate anywhere where needed, it just opened everithing. Otherwise, cool and reliable phone, ideal price.

Used this phone for about a year and a half. It is really a reliable phone. The price is very attractive and affordable. Joystick starts to jam about 6 months. Dropped it backward, upward, sideway, and back flipped couple of times and it survives only with minor scratch. No memory slot, bluetooth, and the camera sux(compared to much expensive phone). I mean for the price its a good phone. Good enough for average people like me. Highly recommended.

One word can describe this phone...brilliant. It has absolutly everything you could want in a mobile as well as plenty of other extras. You can never get bored, with features including the music dj and frame which you can capture funny images in. The only downside I have to this phone is the annoying lagg when trying to take a photo, and that you can't take the shutter sound off....you get use to it but it is frustrating. The massive screen is a major benefit with the phone, and you never are having to find yourself squinting when trying to send a message. Overall, I give this mobile a 9/10.

ive had this phone for about a year and a half now and its never let me down except the occasional thing where my middle button doesnt seem to work but it soon sorts itself out. the picture quality might not look that good on phone but when its on the pc the pics are quite impressive for a VGA camera. theres only a few downfalls to it though that the memory doesnt hold much seen as thought its 12 meg and theres no bluetooth or quality camera. overall 7/10

About the camera not working... I brought it to the repair shop and they fixed it. They said they cleaned the dirty part and now the camera was working once again. Good thing it was still under warranty.

This is a really good phone; for the price it is probably one of the best. I used it for 2 years and its really good, but the analouge will not last and there is not enough memory. Its a great phone to get if u'r short on cash but if u can get a little more $$$ than the K700 is a slightly better buy.

I have been using this phone for the last 11 months and its not given me any problem which is unusual. The camera is great(u can actually extended u pixel resolution to 1280 by 960 for better quality with more memory of course). If u take pictures at this resolution @ pictures takes about 65kb. The video is ok too, i have several clips of the river nile during my visit to Uganda and they are great. The Mp3's are great in sound quality. I downloaded several from SE website. The small memory is a con though. The messaging is great and you can multi task. At times i will let my mp3's play as i text, play a game or view a slide show of my photos!At a price of about $200 when i bought it this phone beats its competitors. Those complaining about the joystick shouldnt disqualify this phone for that minor problem. I encountered some problems and solved them as follows; -If the phone is unable to open a java application especially the games, press and hold the return key and exit, then turn off the phone and restart it. Once you do this the games will run ok. This i realized was occuring after several times of charging, about every 3-4 times. You can avoid freezing during a game by switching the phone off after several times of charging. -If the pictures in your folders are not appearing, instead a graphic is appearing (occurs after a long time viewing the pictures or after charging). Just close all the programs and shut the phone off and restart. Immediately your pictures will appear.

Re Adel The video files that u r sendind via IRDA are not 3gp of mp4 that is y they goto "Others" folder.As K500i only support 3gp & mp4 video files so try to send these files i m sure that they will open.

This phone is brilliant.. cute and gorjus! It's extremely good at every feature it has.. esp the pin protected memo, it's such a clever lil thing! The phone is definitly impressive.. and with it's inra red being able to transfer data... and not to forget the cable, it's has just evrything you cld want in a phone! the features are really good and the games are of fantasttic quality. the phone is easy to use and simple in design and especially to hold! Just got a K500i and have question about transferring files (video/mp3) from PC to the phone using infra red port. I have infra red adapter but the video was transferred to the "Other" folder and I cannot view the video on the phone. I don't know where to put the video and/or mp3 so I can use them on the phone. If you are comfortable enough with yourself not to need 'the latest this' or 'new that' like the majority of muppets in this world, this phone should do the trick. Bar the lack of bluetooth, this phone serves me well. Easy menu, easy mp3 ringtones, easy texts. I can talk to people, text them and film them, and it only cost me 35 quid. Winner!

It was love at first sight I think (both for the wife and the phone). Great value for money. And with IR you can download what u want from ur pc or other phones. Had a little problem with the joystick. But solution on this forum, set that right too. Hey PHONEMASTER SE ought to give you a load of money. thank a ton for the tip it really works. (Another trick, blow hard into the joystick area, mind the spittle though, it works at times). Great Features, Good Sound, Cam quality is surprisingly good only in the day though and a Fabuluous Value for Money. If you're on a budget GO FOR IT ! You can never find anything better.

Well what can I say, basically if you want to waste some money and have to buy a new phone same time next year then you should get any of the SE phones with a joystick. I wouldn't be too annoyed if it could be fixed but this is a shocking problem which makes the phone almost totally useless. I've had mine for about a year and then joystick isnt working at all anymore and I wont be getting another SE. Of all the people Ive talked to with the same phone or similar (K500's and 700) all of them are having problems with their joysticks and 2 of them have already got new phones due to that fact alone. Now I don't want to be a total bastard but SE DOES NOT replace joysticks and this is absolute BS. I do not recommend this phone... PURELY due to the joystick!

I like this phone a lot but was gonna replace it because the joystick was rubbish. thanks to the guy with the tip about holding it down and rotating for 2 mins, it resets itself and works a treat. my favourite bit is showing your notes on screen when in standby.

this is such a gd fone! i recommend it defniently. but there r some problems like the camera sound that cannot be turned off, on some mobile fone plans (like mine) you cannot acces the 'play now' section and you can only choose from the provided message alerts (but this is not that big of a problem). overall, i do think this fone is gr8 and if your looking for a inexpensive mobile with all the features, this is the on to go for.

Great phone, no complaints about it. I bought it one year ago and nothing is wrong with it. Great screen, takes wonderful pictures (unless you are some sort of snob and expect 5.2 MP quality), the sound is great and i never had any problems with the joystick, but then again i don`t nail stuff in wood with it cuz you know ... it`s a phone. Also at the price it was released i wasn`t even DREAMING i would get such a great phone.

Hello everybody... I have my K500i for 8 months now and my advice for you is to go and buy it now. It is a great phone, it has a good camera, a nice display, good and clear sound, decent batery his only minus is that it has a short memory, but for me it is ok. The joestick works well, I had no problem with this phone until this moment. For those who say this phone has problems I can only say that it is like a lotery, you can get the latest phones from any top brands and it can brake down anyway. In my opinion this phone is one of the best and SE is the best mobile manufacturer, my next phone will be K750. Bye from Romania!!!

You'll like this phone only for 1 week after you've bought it...and then afterwards...u're opinion's gonna change this phone has good qualities but has lotsa LIMITATIONS. I've heard so much about the joystick problem...almost everyone had it, software also causes problems, the processing speed is not as good as u'd expect. One example is that if u have about 20 - 25 pics in ur pics folder, open it and it'll take a lot of time to display them. All in all this phone sux, i'd rathar buy Symbian OS mobile like 3650,3660 or 6600. Adios

I had this phone before, but now using K750i. K500 is a cool phone, i like the design- juz tht it is not really turgid and hangs alot too. The Joystick is the worst of all, after just 2 months of purchase, it could not respond. No matter how hard u move the joystick, nothing happens. Secondly is the craftsmanship. The silver area around the screen can easily torn off - mine is all gone after 4 months. The 'QuickShare' sticker at the bottom fell off easily.. sigh, its a good design but shame on some functions and especially the craftsmanship. It also lacks of Memory (Not enough for songs if u take 50 or more snapshots). The camera on the other hand is alright for a phone in tht class (i thought it was excellent bfr i got the K750, but still good for the phone!) The sounds are good, but none of these new SE ringtones (midi) can outbeat the previous Z600 ringers. Overall, its a good money-saving phone. But if SE just change the Joystick to a normal 4-pad navi-keys, i would still be using it. Good phone (design, functions) but bad craftsmanship (Keys, >>joystick

All i can say is DONT GET THIS FONE... at first i thought it was great, good camera, great features and i still think this... but the built quaality of the fone is horrible... the screen and silver film around the edge of the screen scratch easliy, mine is almost all gone (this started within a week)... the 'quickshare' rubber thing fell off, the joystick works about 10% of the time now... it was the biggest waste of $450 (aussie).... im gonna get an e730, at least i know that wont suffer fro joystick failure.... all in all not a very good fone to own for 9 months mainly due to shockin build quality...

This phone is quite cheap for its class but if you use the joystick frequently, it will be insensitive. I'm having this problem now especially when I play games on my phone. Other than that, the camera shutter sound cannot be shut off so you might want to think twice before buying this phone. I have been using this phone only for 6 months and problems already seem to be popping up. Sometimes, your phone can even jam! I consider buying Sagem MY X6-2 because it's cheap and good at the same time. Anyone care to join me? Hehe.....

Got this phone for 1 months, current price now around US$ 165 (no plan, I'm in Indonesia). Usability sucks (keypad difficult to use, text size to small and thin), screen so so (inferior compared to Sxxxxxx TFT screen). Features good (camera, sound, organizer, memory, battery life, etc), only lack bluetooth. SE always launch good phone with jam packed features, but (as always) forget the usability (easy to use). I'm dissapointed with this situation, and the siblings of K500i, K508i also have the same problem. For US$ 165 price point, I recommend Axxxxxx 7xx on top of K500i/K508i(I write review about this model also).

Hi guys. I have been using my SE K500i for several months and i must say that this is a great phone in its class. The camera is quite impressive, the video clips too. The games are cool and i was able to download 3 more games from the SE website on top of the 4 that were on the phone. The sound quality is good and its very easy to download ringtones, pictures and themes. For those who want more themes you just need to go to your themes menu and go to, and there will get as many themes as you want. The voice features are awesome. I can just say a magic word and call my buddies without looking for their numbers in the phone book provided i have activated the voice functions. I like the icon desktop display of 12 icons i think its unmatchable with other models in its class. The quickshare feature is impressive for i can easily send video clips and pictures and rintones or even themes via infra red. Recently i had travelled out of my country and my bro needed the pictures that i had on my k500i. I send them to his nokia 6020 very easily. The 65k TFT display is very good too even in direct sunlight. If you are worried about the camera lens been damaged, the lens cover does the trick. The list is endless of all the positive things about this phone. I recommend it to anyone who wants to buy a medium priced phone. I have liked SE phones so much that i want to buy another one soon, actually the SE p910i smartphone.

"Zeeshn" SE are not going any where and i have trusted them all my phone life, not all there phons are great, but neither are all of Siemens or Nokia, and you said the only good SE is K750i, well theres also this decent phone (the k500i), theres the K700i (my phone i love it!), the w880i, the s700i, the p910i, the p900i, the s710i and many more, those are just some of SE's good phones! So in other words i think we can trust Sony Ericsson!

I admit this phone isn't as good as other Sony E's however its not crap, its just for people who don't want the best quality (though most people want the best), but not everyone really care about the loss of bluetooth function, and a camera thats only good in light, but i have to say the when i played mp3's on this phone they were loud! very impressive SE, but this one will have to be a miss for now!

beleive me..it is very crap phone... on first one or 2 months you will find it very good.. but after that.. candy bar malfunctions... the receiving function becomes absolutely crap... the call drops several times and also it catches very low signals... i am very very disappointed with it... so guyes... don't even think to buy it... SE other phones are also very very crap... it's new k750i has so many complaints... after all of that... i came to point that Nokia & Siemens are only your true friends you can trust..

wow...wt a koooooooooooooooool phone,but it still makes noise when i talk pic. when i on or off the silent mode and the screen is not too clear for some pic. but the screen is very very bring at night..but i really hope the K500i can have much more memory or support memoery cards and add a flash light for the camera and can take pics. with full screen..

To "Silent" the shutter sound, call any free-number (eg. your service operator hotline), make sure the line is thru', goto camera function, and take pics. ======================================= To make Recorded sound as ringtone:- (1) Goto "Entertainment" - "Record Sound" (then record whatever sound u want. Ensure that the source of the sound is near to the phone). (2) "Save" - "More" - "Rename" [rename the file if u want] - "OK" (3) "More" - "Recorded Sounds" [there is list of recorded filenames. Go to the one that u renamed before. (4) "More" - "Manage Files" - "Move to folder" - "Sounds" - Exit to the main by pressing "Enter" button 2 seconds. (5) Go to "Settings" - "Sounds & Alerts" - "Ringtone" - then select the file u have transfered previously.

hi to everyone, been stress testing K500i for quite a while, and this are the comments.. if you need to transfer data, mp3s, anything, either use a usb infra or irda stick, or buy the data cable from Sony Ericisson. For the annoying shutter sound, try silent mode, or switch to 0volume. It works for me when i take pics in silent mode. OK, OK. After all the comments, I juz wanna say: don't expect too much from this phone. It is juz good enough to get you going, not long though. Look on the positive side: This phone got good standby time. It could last you a couple of days before it needs recharging. The camera is okay but on night mode, it is not too good. Hey! I've just bought this phone and I think it is cool! The only thing I regret is the resolution of the screen. Even the nicest picture will turn into a bunch of pixels when viewing with this phone. Other than that, the camera will play a loud sound when you capture a pic. Anybody can tell me how to turn off the sound? No, silent mode won't help.....

K500 rules for its price. The difference between k500 and k300 is that k300 has a better browser but a smaller screen and bigger buttons. (Note: not a smaller resolution! the resolution is the same in both phones - 128x160). I'd suggest you buy k500 although it is 15-20 $ more expensive

I think it's a great phone at a great price :D But the compatibility in infrared device sucks, I can not connect it to my notebook through infrared, even if I already set the infrared (in my notebook) to 9600 bps (SIR) I used to use Siemens SL45i and the infrared between my notebook and SL45i works just fine, the weird things is this phone can communicate with my SL45i but not with my notebook. This is assuming you opened up the usb port? Open control panel, a icon called phone monitor options, go to comp ports, with the cable in you should see comp 4 or what ever is free on yours click the port and say enable then click ok, this is all i can say. Hope it helps. Shaz xx

My infrared device is MA 660, a device produced by mobile action company and this device supports k508i, so we can use it. I use MA-660 infrared adapter and it works well. I can transfer data from pc to phone or the opposite. It works not for K500 only, but also some latest phones that use infrared (The other types of Sony Ericsson, Nokia,Siemens,etc.).

Hi, Percy I've met the same problem as you about MS3303H driver for data cable? I've tested the data cable in three different kinds of OS, WIN XP, WIN 2000 and WIN 98, and finally I found it wasn't the problem of the USB driver,but the OS of your PC! The same data cable does work on WIN 2000 and WIN 98 operating system without any trouble, but something wrong with WIN XP. So you can try your cable on other PC. I have sent the usb driver to you by mail.

The Nokia 6610i and K500/508 are available for roughly the same price and this phone eats the 6610i for breakfast. 65k color screen vs 4k colors. 128x160 vs 128x128 display. TFT vs that aging and poor quality/laggy STN dislay. 12mb memory vs 4mb. Decent VGA camera with video recording and playback vs a stone age CIF 388x288 camera. Gorgeous menu layout and colorful themes versus that boring Nokia interface. Rich 40 channel polyphonic tone with midi support vs tones that sound like a busted whistle. Quickshare connectivity allowing you to transfer almost anything to other SE phones in seconds. Advanced Java3D game support vs stone age games. MP3 audio and Mp4 video playback etc.... The list goes on... Now to the flaws, first of all the K500/K508 series has poor build quality, which is rather creaky and weak for a phone of this class. The K500 is especially prone to scratches, while the K508 looks poor when that horrid orange light leaks out unevenly from under the keypad facia. I wont criticize it for lack of expandable memory and bluetooth, since this is a 2004 era phone and was the best in its price/class upon release. People who dont care for features may also find the Nokia 6610i a more 'usable' phone. Thats all folks.

I got my K508i a week ago and I can honestly say that this phone is great! I would recommend it over many phones. It is probably the best phone I've had the opportunity to use. Sure, it doesn't have BT but I don't need it and apart from that it does everything else you would want. Nokia's in the same price range don't come near it. This phone to me is a replacement for my LG G7100 - which to me has to be one of the worst camera/clam phones ever made and left a sour taste in my mouth. Even if the LG were reliable you soon realise how limited it was in every aspect compared to the 805i. When you take your time and compare the 805i to other models in the same price bracket it stands out. Even more expensive models offer less than this phone. The 805i offers Java, themes, the ability to create your own themes with software, IR connection to a PC or other mobiles, video recording, a decent camera (for a phone), java games, voice recorder, simple mp3 player, speaker phone, the ability to record phone calls and more. I found battery life to be good. I couldn't want any more in a phone. And most importantly - It does everything it claims to do reliably. If I had to say anything bad it would be that I agree with others on the camera shutter sound and would have liked the ability to set your own message alert tone. This phone menu is easy to use, the features are great (camera pic looks sharp, the recorded sounds can be use as ringtones, pretty good sound, speakerphone that can record the talk, and other nice features). Yes, the camera shutter sound is a little bit annoying. But overall, this phone is worthy to buy.

To make Recorded sound as ringtone:- (1) Goto "Entertainment" - "Record Sound" (then record whatever sound u want. Ensure that the source of the sound is near to the phone). (2) "Save" - "More" - "Rename" [rename the file if u want] - "OK" (3) "More" - "Recorded Sounds" [there is list of recorded filenames. Go to the one that u renamed before. (4) "More" - "Manage Files" - "Move to folder" - "Sounds" - Exit to the main by pressing "Enter" button 2 seconds. (5) Go to "Settings" - "Sounds & Alerts" - "Ringtone" - then select the file u have transfered previously.

(3) Value for money to purchase and re-sell/trade-in. -ve stuff (more to technical issues):- (1) Keypad 2 small. U might drop the phone accidently if U use one-hand typing. The same thing goes to Nokia 3230. (2) If U have oily face (not me...), the screen will get oily too. Use proper phone cover. (3) Dust may get thru the joystick. Use proper phone cover. (4) Speakerphone not easy to access. (5) Low 12MB memory (but hey, its not for discman purpose, its for ringtones collection). (6) IR port slow. Not all Nokia/Samsung/Moto can sync with this model. (7) Not easy to get tweaks, codes and tricks for this model. TIPS:- To "Silent" the shutter sound, call any free-number (eg. your service operator hotline), make sure the line is thru', goto camera function, and take pics.

The 2x-4x digital zoom is available only on small resolution (160x120 i think). On the medium resolution you get 2x while on the high res you get nothing. The extended res (1280x960) is done by software, so better increase it on your pc than on your mobile! It takes 100kb more space on every jpg:/ READ THE FINE MANUAL :D

I bought k500i for about 135 euros. k700i costs 230 euros, that is much more expensive. For 135 E, 12MB memory, good vga photos (640x480 - like a cheap webcam) mp3, mp4 and mpg play ability, j2me and java 3d. Not Bad! It's a cheap k700 version without bluetooth and radio. At that price, (even cheaper than Siemens CX70, IT ROCKS) Mine had the updated firmware, so all shutter sounds etc can be off. No prob at all!

I too tried to shut down the camera shutter sound. cant do it. neither can i turn off the operator logo. For increasing the picture size, press 1 in camera mode. you will get the options 160, 1280, 640, 320. IR is always slow. USB port is better. And again, no options for tying a neck rope to the phone. The red light in the phone power switch blinks when the battery is low. If it blinks all the time, then something is wrong. Better take it to a dealer. You can send message to user groups. after you type the message, continue, more, add receipients. you cant change the screen contrast. apart from all these really small comforts, I am very satisfied with this phone. Face the reality guys. A camera phone is not a digital camera. You always have tradeoffs. I had been a nokia lover until I got this phone by chance. What I mean to say is, many people think only Nokia is real good. Even I thought so. Its not the case. Even nokia has failure models. So just look at the individual models instead of looking at the company as a whole.

yeah, cant turn off the camera shutter sound. BUT my friend's K500i can do it when the phone is in silent mode, whereas i cant. So, izzit there are few version of K500i? i asked the SE service center, and she said they cant change the sound setting, So the shutter sound and the limited memory r the only problems. Hy, I just both the fone, 3 days ago. This phone is amazing, it's got a great camera (even though that it will go fuzzy in dark areas but the phone's too good to hate). The games are great, the themes are great, hmmm, anything else i have not mentioned is probably great too! I'm from Romania and here, fones like this one, with the same functions, are more expensive. The memory can be small for someone who takes pics, all the time, but if you will keep only the pictures you like most, the memory is ok. I have 8 MP3 on it and 20 pictures and still have 5mb free.. so.. is the BEST one around :P

K500 is like all SE phones: looks good, many features, poor software. I have owned this phone for 4 months now and i slowly discover the mistake i did not buying a nokia. The software of K500 simply sucks: when i browse the menu a little faster it crashes for about 10 seconds, sometimes when least expected the phone crashes without coming back, i have tot take out the battery and put it back in in order to make it work again; yes, i heard about the firmware update, but where i live i loose my warranty if i update it because we don't have any Sony-Ericsson dealer in our town and i have to pay a phone repair shop to update it. Silly huh? and the extended picture mode of the phone is crap, my 10$ webcam looks better than this, and the 12 mb memory simply kills any enjoyment you may have of putting some mp3s on it and use it as a portable mp3 player. But the design of the phone is cool and the features are impressive for its price. So if you want a phone just to impress your friends with it it's a good cheap choise. If you want a good, stable and reliable phone that will last for more than an year search for another model, or better yet another brand, cause this one is GARBAGE.

Well, i owned a Sony Ericsson(SE) K500i for 2 months ago. Before I bought it, I've compared with other SE competitor's main feature phones which are similar to SE k500i. For instance, Alcatel OT 556, Motorola E398, and Sagem My S-7. The main specifications I've compared with them are color screen, Video/camera, MP3, Memory space and Connectivities. All phone models are 65k of TFT color screen except Alcatel is 65k of CTSN color screen. Next, Alcatel OT 556, Motorola E398 and Sagem MY S-7 have integrated with a 640x480 pixels of VGA camera. However, SE k500i has a integrated of 1280x960(extended) pixels of VGA camera. Honestly, in camera capture picture quality, OT 556 is the clearest one and following by SE k500i. Even though Moto E398 has a built-in flash VGA camera but its capture video and picture quality is the worst one out of these 3 phone models. Come to MP3 player, SE K500i has a crystal sound of MP3 stereo music quality(128kbs bit rate). Even though at 44khz 64kbs bit rate, its sound quality still can be heard very clearly. The E398 has 3D surround sound, but not actual is. The most disappointed part on SE K500i is memory space available in phone. It has only 12mb (3 times of OT556) of memory space. The S-7 and E398 beat K500i, because they have memory card supported. Last, is phone connectivities supported. Alcatel OT556 has only infrared port but both SE k500i and Sagem S-7 have also USB port supported. However, Motorola E398 has high-tech connection - bluetooth. Anyway, in my final decision to decide which phone i should buy was SE K500i. Why? It is because SE k500i has its special features that these 3 phone models are not supported such as Music DJ, MP3 equalizer, PlayNow, 3D graphic/gaming(java), and Streaming video. p/s: For those who haven't owned a MP3-Camera phone, choose SE K500i (more economic) or K700i (same features with K500i but it support Radio FM and Bluetooth and its price is more expensive). You will found WORTHY and NOT REGRETED after you bought it.

I have the k508i model and its great. Just one problem ... i cant use multicharacter search in the phonebook ... like when i want to search Ian ... I type in "I" it goes directly to the first name that starts with "I", when I write "a" it goes to the name starting with "A". Its a bit annoying to use the stick to scroll through the names. So anyone else has this problem? Any workarounds?

I have been using this phone for 4 months now and I couldn't have asked for more. Even when I bought this phone I wasn't sure it will be this good. It has the best camera in its class. I have taken nearly 60 high resolution pictures and 4 high resolution videos. The phone memory is almost full. Inspite of that the performance is not affected. I dont think this is the case with most phones. Go ahead and buy it if you still haven't got one.

15 mp3s? simple. compress your mp3 files. instead of the standard 128kbps mp3 file, set it to lower probably 50kbps or some sort. you can even store more than 15, but lack of audio quality in your music. i'd rather have 2 mp3s and get the quality. just suggesting, i'm not a k500i user, used to be though. =)

MFH, as much as you want to think that this is a megapixel phone, it is not. it is only a vga camera, which means it is 0.3 megapixels. and yes the craftmanship is disappointing and the joystick is rubbish. i've only used this phone for less than 2 months and i had enough of it. the battery cover tends to jerk, because there isn't any lock for it, its just clip on. trust me, its much more worth it to get a 3660 with the price.

The phonebook spec. stated (in this web) it was 500 phonenumber with 8 entry. Well, it's not completely true. It contain 510 contact number, meaning when you save 3 number (ex. Mobile, home, & Office) for one person's name, it will reduce 3 space on the phone book, instead of 1 like in other brand such NOKIA or PHILIPS. I had this phone for 6 months and im quite satisfied with it. I dont know why you guys complain about the camera but i think its super fine! Maybe the images shown on the display is abit blurred or pixalated but when you send it to ur computer, its as clear as a 2MP camera. Ive always take pictures with the K500i and had it printed out at photo shops. I like this phone because it has a 1.3Mega Pixel Camera, you may not notice it or is written on it or in the information but it does have a mega pixel camera. The sound quality is excelent especially for MP3s, its loud and full of bass. But the only problem is that you only have limited storage of 12MB and no expandable slots and it doesnt have bluetooth. But other than that, the K500 is a fine piece of mobile equiptment from SE. As i said, im quite satisfied, not fully as some problems occur, such as the joystick not functioning well and the lack of quality in craftsmanship. The area around my K500 screen (the silver bit) is worning out, you can see the insides and it doesnt look good. The Joystick is having so much problems. You cant direct them to the direction you wanted. Sometimes it stalled and sometimes you cant press the centre. Now the phone doesnt look as good or feel as good due to the joystick and lack of quality in craftsmanship. Anyone has the same problems?? I bought this phone for RM1199 in October and had droped down till RM799 untill today. Pros + High picture quality + Budger Mega Pixel camera phone + Clear sounds (both poly and MP3) + Satisfying battery life. Cons - Small 12MB memory space maximum - Lack of craftsmanship quality - Joystick malfunction - Low pixalated LCD screen Btw, if you also have problems with either the craftsmanship or/and the joystick, please reply back the post. the camera quality is pure rubbish. especially in dim areas or during the night. even taking pictures in enclosed areas (buildings, etc) during the day comes out in totally poor quality. totally crap. can't even see a person's face, only a smudge of skin color.

Hi. I've just bought a K500i and it is really cool. It takes nice pictures and is has a max. camera resolution 1280 x 960 ( Expensive mode ) but it "eat" the memory. Yhe movies aren't very very good but... it makes video with sound ( 176 x 120 or 120 x 120 ). The features and the performance is BEST! ( Only nokia is better ). dear abs, you're asking k700 questions in k500 section, but anyway here are my answers to your questions :) regarding the memory: no the k700 memory is not expandable, and there's no MMC/Mini SD/Memory Stick Duo slot. regarding the camera: imo the camera quality is average, i mean, it's only a VGA camera, what do you expect? :) regarding the USB port: no the fone does not have a USB port, but the USB cable (called the DCU-11 if i'm not mistaken) plugs into the port at the bottom of the fone regarding its speed: the menu is fine, the animation is fluid and no lag in whatsoever. and the k500 & k700 basically uses the same VGA camera (even the k300 uses the VGA) so i guess the image quality is the same, except that each fone has different resolution, for example the k500 has 128x160 and the k700 has larger 176x220 pixels; but both uses TFT LCD screen, not like the k300 that uses STN LCD screen and only 128x128 pixels. hope that helps :)

I have transferred 7 MP3 clips of 25 seconds each...and about 50 pictures at good resolution(640x480) and 2 videos of time duration 30 seconds each and still have about 5.5 MB of space left on my K500i. So space is not a problem until you decide not to buy a Data Cabel to transfer file onto your PC;-). Regarding the length of the video clip,in the normal mode it is around 10 sec, but if the option of Unlimited is selected then there is no fixed duration of the clip and the recording will contunue till you are exhausted of the free space on your mobile!!!

I recently bought a K500i and its really great.Impressed by the performance and the makeshift that SE has done from T100 range of phones to K500!!!The phone memory is sufficient for 7-8 MP3 clips(25 sec. each) and about 100 photos at resolution 640x480. about the usb port, the usb cable (called DCU-11) has two different ends, one end plugs into the charger port (bottom of k500), and the other end of the cable plugs into the usb port on the computer. for more info, check out the official site here --> hope that helps :)

gr8 phone. i love the VGA camera, the VGA pix are great in daylight. All you need for data transfer is a USB cable (any cable for SE will work) and float's media agent, you can download it from the web, you will find it after a google search. I am exceptionally happy with this phone. only downside is the shiny part around the display which strips away if you don't protect the phone and the lack of radio (the radio handsfree is about 50 EUR, too much for me). I don't need bluetooth right now, so i don't mind not having it. I will get a k750i in about a year. until then, this phone is the best i ever had.

k500 is a 40voices polyphonic, just like the k700 t610 is 32 voices poly there, u have the diff ;) still, I have a k500 and my sis a t610 ... we rarely could find polys that wouldn't match, in the good playback way ...

Overall the phone features satisfy me a lot! But I encountered something weird. I load a midi file from PC to my K500i and when I play the file in my K500i, the midi was weired. I upload the same midi to T610, the midi plays great. Anyone know what's wrong to the midi playback by K500i? K700i behave the same too. Actually what midi format supported by K500i and K700i? Appreciate if anyone can help me to answer me question :)

K700 is the big brother of k500i. Bigger memory, bigger screen, got a bluetooth thrown in as well (k500 don't have), and also, it has flash built for camera. Don't know can trust the k700's 1hour shorter talktime as compared to k500's. Which means, K700 is going to be more expensive than K500. ;)

I m Shahjahan from Pakistan.Before few months i was crazy about Sonyericsson T610 but now my interest goes towards SE K500i.SE k500i have TFT display,VGA camera with 4x zoom,video recording,large mamory as compared to SE T 610 which have STN display,CIF camera & just 2 MB of mamory.But still i want to say that SE T610 is more beautiful handset(more beautiful then any other handset).SE T610 is now become direct ravil of SE K500i which is not a good thing of company.Price range of SE T610 is aroung 10000 to 10500 Rs. & that of SE K500i is around 11500 to 12100 Rs. in Pakistan.

I have this phone since 3 months, and I must say its amazing! The mp3 player sound quality is exceptional! I have a infrared cable and have stored 6-7 songs in mp3 format on the phone (recompressing to about 40k from 128k) and the quality is still very very good. The screen is large with good clarity. I think this phone takes the cake in being small, light but still packs a great number of features. If anything, the camera is mediocre and the keys are real small. But the other features more than make up for it. And oh yes, i bought this phone for abt 10000 rupees when no other phone in this price range offered the features offered in this. I would say its better than the k700 at this price point. (ive heard it runs java games faster than the k700 also, apart from being smaller and lighter)

after a month using this mobile phone, i think this is the most finest mobphone in th low end class, the tones is greater than nokia, and also the menu. fast connection with gprs, but can't using the wav tones. but the memmory just fit with 2-3 mp3, that's if you have nothing to sore in the memmory, if u save some pictures and tons, may be it just can fit for 2 song or perhaps one, so be wise for using this very limited memory. the connectivity just great, no bluetooth wouldn't be a problem, i can say that this is much more better than T630. but don't even think to compare this with K700i, coz that just make u want to buy k700i.

hie...i bought K500i about 2 weeks...it's really nice, got many function that can fulfill me...although the camera can't get a nice shot at nite, but the night mode is better than the phone with flash camera, i compare one of the innostream flash camera phone, K500i shot is better than innostream at nite, n it let me very proud...hahaha but i wonder y my phone will hang...i saw the review from Rudro, said the mem almost finish will hang, but i still got 4mb, will it mean almost finish the mem? other than tat i think this is the good phone, and the price is reasonable.

It is a fantastic fone. . .though tends to hang sometimes, especially when the memory is nearing its limits, the fone is attractive with amazing features at the price it comes. With a camera capable of recording videos (sound and pic) and a built in media player, it is one of the best fones available in its price range. There however should have been some scope for increasing the memory of the phone (13MB) which is insufficient and prevents the fone from being a complete media center. Yet, to conclude I must say the pros far outway the cons and if you are thinking of buying a fone and your pocket is not that heavy. . .well, just go for the K500i. . .it is as good as K700i at half its price!!

The k500i is much better than the 6230. Plus it's only �80 while the 6230 is �175. If your worried about the memory buy a K700i, or get a mp3 player and data cable with the �95 you'll save! Forget bluetooth,it's crap! Infrared is good for swapping info. You can also get mp3's onto a K500i by compressing them on a pc and sending them to the phone by email.

Hello.I just bought the phone.It's really nice and well built.I like it!The keypad it's a minus because of the size.The shutter sound can be stopped if you put the phone in silent mode.Yo can do a lot of stuff with your pc(syncronize, photos, mp3s) if you download about 218MB of software from SE site.

You CAN'T turn off the shutter sound! Apart from that it's a excellent phone. I've had no problems with the battery or being slow. My mate has just bought a Nokia for �120 and it doesn't come close to the k500i. You need a telescope to see the pics on his phone. He hasn't stopped crying yet!

i just bought this phone yesterday (thu 27 jan) for RM795 and so far i'm very happy with it. + bright and hi-quality screen (it's SE!) + pics quality is good + mp3 and sounds are loud and clear + all features are well built + affordable price - orange backlight for keypads - quite hard to use keypads - small memory compared to k700 - can't turn off camera sound (because they don't want ppl to act like paparazzi) - poor battery life (but not THAT bad) recommended: yes!

at the onset picture quality is a little bit dissapointing, they should have included an FM radio instead of the pseudo mp3 capability and, you can't turn off the shutter sound! regardless, it's a great fone considering the price..bought mine at around 160 USD..hehehe..

Bought a K500i (Silver color) last week. It cost me Rs 12,700/- (equal to about 210 USD) in Pakistan. Initially I was looking for a phone in the Rs 5-10k range. But this phone was soo much better than the ones in 10k range that I decided to go over budget. I think it is a cool phone. Would have been much better if three things were also there, namely, a memory card slot, an FM radio, and Blue tooth.

I bought this because I wanted a thin phone. the specs say it's 14mm thick. It's 14mm at the bottom, but it's 21mm at the top. I would have never bought it if I knew this. The software intermittently freezes up anywhere from 2 to 15 seconds. The keys are small and hard to use for text messaging. The orange backlight makes them hard to use too. On the up side the screen is great, ringtones sound good, speaker volune is loud. The camera and video are ok. Fit and finish are good. It's a cool phone if you don't care about size and don't do a lot of text messaging.

i got this fone yday.. really nice fone.. few cons though.. the key pad is lil difficult to use keys too small..the top row is too close to the soft keys.. SE has done a cool looking fone but ruined it by using Orange back light.. gives a cheap look.. crystal light would have been perfect with any screen colour.. rest all great.. K500 display is wayy too god for the price i payed. reall bang for the buck.. SE blows out any NOKIA fones.just try a NOKIA n a SE n see for ur self.. :-) highly recomended..

No,the silent mode doesn't affect the camera shutter sound! Can't get any sneaky pics. Good job the video record sound is just a little beep. If you have trouble removing the back cover (which i did as it's not in the book) use an old credit/top-up card or you'll pull your nail off. Insert it into the little slot under the SonyE' sign. Something else i forgot to mention,when you register with orange,you get 30 free photo messages and 3p texts for 6 months! Anyone know where i can get a good case for the k500i, the k700i case is too small.

Excellent phone! -Easy to navigate with nice icons. -Good 12MB of memory. -Quality pics and video (can record 20 minutes video). -Great sound. -Can send pic's or video to email addresses. Bad point is the camera shutter sound.You can't turn it off and it sounds like crushing a tin can,VERY LOUD! The user book is a waste of time.Doesn't tell you the simple things like using the joystick to zoom in and out. You'll love this phone,and the price!

T630 VS K500 i got t630 and k500 and to be honest k500 is better (in terms of k500) 1. it has mp3, video 2. its screen is brighter than t630 but t630 screen is sharper 3. it has louder ringing tone than t630 4. it has cover for lens-dust does not cover the lens unlike t630 where a lot of dust on lens 5. 12MB does seems little but 6x more the memory of t630(OK for those dont mind storing their pic or video in their pc) Flaws: 1. No bluetooth that's y cheaper 2. when taking photo it has a loud shutter sound & there's no way to shut it-no taking of photo secretly. t630 phone no shutter in silent mode. 3. its casing is nice but its not of real metal-silver coated tends to wear off very easily 4. battery is very poor, t630 batt is better

Nice phone but the silver colour near the screen peel of itself.It looks very ugly when the silver colour peel of and you can see through the housing. Sony Ericsson replace the housing free for me twice but the colour still peel off.I got fed up!!!. Sold the phone and bought NOKIA. K500 is much more better than my current NOKIA 3220 but atleast the housing colour never discoloured/peel of.

And anuva thing, someone posted a message saying they could zoom in whilst capturing a video but couldn't zoom in whilst taking pictures- This is because if your picture resolution is set to one of the two highest (Large or Extended) you can't zoom, with the resolution small you can zoom 4x and with Med 2x (i think thats right....)

Hmmm.... very satisfied with this phone, has all the current features such as 65K TFT, MP3 player, 12MB Memory, GPRS, VGA camera with camcorder, 3D games...for such a valuable price. The camera is really satisfying, the pictures end up looking professional. The MP3 sounds are good and loud and the images, animations are so crisp. I really recomend this phone to anyone of any age or someone whos looking for a low budget phone with todays current technology.

The f500i's menu is not as beautiful as k500i's. Also f500i has 2MB less memory. And is a way more slow! I recommand K500i:)

As with all sonyericsson phones this one lacks the loud sounds that nokias cheapest phone has. I think that the 3200 nokia which is cheaper and better has much better software then sonyericsson. It is a great phone if you don't need bluetooth. I have had it about a week now. The screen is good, the menys looks very good and the games is cool. I use it a lot so the battery drains pretty quick.

I heard that it has a loud speaker. In fact I heard it has just about everything the K700i has, just less memory and no FM radio. Not really so great looking but the colours on the K500 are far better than the colours on the F500. If its much cheaper than the K700 I would definetly buy this phone.
