This phone is actually quite decent. But taking it apart is a whole other story. I recently got 3 given to me, all had problems. One had a dead LCD, the other a dead speaker and the other just didn't switch on. So for the last 5 hours or so I have been building a franken-K850i that works now. Back in early 08 I had the choice between this or the N95. Glad I chose the N95.

Seems like I just bricked my K850. Believe it because I tried to install a Theme, for another SE model. The phone starts but freezes with a black screen. Vaguely remember that happened a year before too. Stopped using it for over a year, than it started fine. Had the battery out of the K850 for a week, still it wont boot.

had this phone a while ago, lovely lovely phone, only problem is it died on me, well i had it replaced 4 times in a year to be exact. but it was an amazing phone.. they eventually replaced it with a c902, which was indestructable, dropped that phone 100's of times and it still works to this day! I have to admit, the best SE I have ever had was the SE aino...huge screen, thin, gorgeous, and bullet profe!!!! dropped it while running down my drive was (tar) and it spun and battery came out, cratched to hell. but worked 100% for another 1year after that.

If you use the camera flash don't shoot too much of nearest use the zoom little. Not only that best sound recording.

I have been using solely this phone for the past 38 months. It's a camera phone and yep, i took a lot of pictures and videos with this one.. 10147 photos and videos to be exact. only problem i encountered with it's camera started at after about 8k pix with it's ISO sensitivity. but under normal shooting conditions, it works great. best camera feature would perhaps be the BestPic. I use that feature to create sequential photos. there's a lot more: dedicated camera buttons, image stabilization, good video output.. other pros: excellent music player, heavy duty (dropped it numerous times), nice keypad, very good battery life, cons: poor earpiece sound output(usually have to go on loudspeaker) and features from new phones today (GPS, wifi, apps, etc) By the way, mine is not completely dead.. it's in a coma.. about 4 months ago, i needed to have it reformatted because i can't use the messaging function and kept restarting. just after a month, it happened again, then again, and again! I will have it fixed again, but will keep it on standby mode and prolly have it displayed ;)

Friends, I have been using this since Dec 2007. I purchased it in India for Rs.20K. At that time it was the best cybershot phone with 5MP AF camera, powerful flash and LED lights supporting video rec. But soon SE discontinued this product. I like SE phone because these are something different than conventional Nokia which ruled market for so many years. I dont like samsung or LG phones that much. About k850i, its little bulky and fat in your pocket. There is no software upgradation provided by SE for Java based OS. Some apps run well some doesnt. Battery is weak, lasts for 2-3 days max. So i was looking for a new phone. I loved HTC EVO 3D but price is INR 35K. SE has new range of phones coming in Q4 2011. SE Xperia Ray/Arc S/Neo V/Pro etc. Can anyone guide me which one I should buy among the phones listed above? Personally i liked the SE Xperia Ray. Thank you.

This phn is ok 4 this price and has a very nice 5 mega pxl camera.ButThe scroll buttons are very hard and you may feel pain on your finger. The zenon flash may burn your pics but if you clean the dust from the sensor which is just bellow the led flash, this problem will be solved. Almost no problems other than these. But C905 is the best java phn with 8 mega pxl camera SE has ever made.

If your Sony Ericsson K850 has a charging problem (switches its self off while charging) then try charging phone when its off. This will solve the charging problem. Operation/download fail problem is caused by memory card error/virus. Once removed the phone will work well again. I LOVE THE TICKER application in this phone, my first time to see it in a phone though i first saw it on TV news and Firefox PC browser. Bolt Mobile browser is offering flash player in Java phones. I have this phone for over a year. I love it. It can get you confused when working on other phones. Especially I love it for confusing other people that don't really understand how it works. The bad part: once or twice I had the Blue Ring problem. Also recently the battery got lose, and the phone goes off frequently if is shaken too hard.

This is the worst phone I used. It has a production failure, the LCD screen become faulty after sometime. I got it repaired once within the warranty period, then the problem struck again. I loved much this phone, but I could not use it at least 6 months. Hope SE will not produce such inferior products in the future

Excellent for an old dumbphone. Many apps exists which gives it much of the usability of modern smartphones, ebook readers, unrar, news and weather apps etc. Lack of a kb is the real prob. Camera is very good, video ok. The touch buttons make it easier to surf on than any other DP of this kind. Build qual. so so. 4/5

K850i is a unique phone due to its design and structure. Like the battery compartment and dual type memory card support. When it comes to quality, I agree it is not on part with the latest phones today but it still does it job as a camera phone. Those people using it at night are not using it properly that's why they are getting low quality photos. You need to use it and know how to use it properly. No matter how good a phone is and the user doesn't use it properly, all will fail. it's a matter of familiarizing yourself on the phone. Overall a great phone. The only problem I have with it is the lag and fingerprint magnet. Otherwise it is a good camera phone if not the best.

For Sony Ericsson K850i users who aren't yet updated their software version to: 1200-4400 R1FA035080527: Here's the good news: 1200-4400 R1FA035080527 version improves the loudness and clarity of K850i's speaker plus when you go to the Media Center Menu it highlights the Photo icon rather than the Music icon that was highlighted in the previous version(that makes sense bec. K850i is a Cyber-shot phone and not a Walkman phone) :) Bad News: still the accelerometer is still laggy. the best example for this is when switching between landscape and portrait view when watching a video..the video pauses a bit but the music remains playing resulting the video to catch up with the music and it looks like it's been forwarded(nah, you know what i mean, it's hard to explain but users like me will understand what i'm trying to say.. ^_^ ) for now, those are the only things that i've noticed because at the time i'm writing this is the day when i just recently upgraded my K850i to that version.. ^_^ i'll write again here if i noticed some pros & cons..see yah all guys.. ^_^ (Nokia & Sony Ericsson Forever.. ^_^ )

if its what happened to mine (the keypad lights up and nothing else happens) then its just a firmware re-install. i got it done at a secondhand store that also had some electrical repair guy working out of the shop for $20 and he tried to show me how to do it myself but didn't bother.

I got my k850i in jan 2009 and didnt use it up to six months when it started developing fault. first the screen, which i changed and later, it wouldnt even power on. I've tried several repairs on it and flashing but still no life. I'm told it's the end of the phone as nothing can be done after sevral flashes. Does anyone know the solution to bring it back to working condition. I so love the phone...It's still looking very new and clean but isn't working.

I have this one 3 years ago 'n legally keypad 'n touch failures don't bother me...Those fail appeared by two years only after purchased..Only use an original replacement 'n ready for use one more year until today...This is'nt nice but if for u the camera quality is too much important K850 is the best choice...I'VE use so many others models eve same megapix but doesn't compare with the k850... I have changed many phones before and now when i got my hands on this one, i can't say anything bad about it, seriously, its a very good phone. Good photos, good battery, and good software(if its necesary just reinstall it) in rest... for those with experience in internet browsing, with this model you can surf and use opera/web/shmess, all day long and after that the battery dies.. so its prety good, if its used for normal usage keeps like 3 days.

TANVEER if the battery life is in question you should have no fear because Li-Po batteries are excellent. If you like taking photos all phones batteries will have to be charged soon. I had one broke the screen and got the k800i in both cases battery life 4 to 6 days. It is up to connectivity.

Hi any one complaining about the Sony Ericsson K850i must be very unlucky or just have no clue how to handle a device. I been using it for over 2 years got it off Virgen Megastore unlocked and its a brilliant camera phone which takes awesome pictures for a mobile. Plus from my own experience the phone can handle a lot ao f damage i can proof it since i have accidetly dropped it while skateboarding down 7 stairs and it survived plus been hit by a car 1s and the phone survived and trowed it against a wall accidentally as a i wanted to throw it to a friend 6 meters away from me and it smashed but didn't broke. But since a few weeks the screen dies on me. But thats me to blame not the phone. The phone is great. SO before you talk trash please think! The Sony Ericsson K850i Rules and now i am going for Nokia N8..now that will Rock my world.

its like 8,000 pesos only compared to the 24,000 - 26, 000 when it was released or say when i had it- 2008 i think.if i were you, buy another model.i bought it for like 24,000++ and after 8 months, i have to replace the LCD worth 4,000 pesos then after another 8 months LCD problem again.now, it one of the dead phones i have.as for the features, its all good.

i have this amazing phone,, i have had some troubles with like restarting, blinking of LCD etc. i just updated my software then all is good now,, i just change the cam driver and the acoustic driver and now its too good and now i can use it with flash menu, I truly recommend this phone to everyone and even this phone was manufactured by the year 2007 i will kept this for the rest of my life :)

its not the LCD but its the back light of tyhis phone, when you cant see the screen of your phone try to heat it in the sun and you will see the menu.. because the back light is in the sensitive touch pad....

I have been using K850i for the last 1.5 years. Its far more better than those slides and flips. Specialy the half touch half manual is good in it. The problem of hanging up for 1min does exist but its due to harsh usage.The hanging of phones iz common as it does happen wid all other phones rather far expensive den k850. Have used the K850i's for 2 years now for our work phones (call center helpline). They are a good phone, very ropbust but unfortuantly the software does freeze up alot after the first 6 months. It usually takes about a minute to unfreeze itself or just reboot it by taking the battery out. The shortcuts also do activate when your on the phone cause your cheek or ear touche's it. Overall good phone it it had the right software on it. Good pics and video too. 7/10

The link below will show you how to get do it. For the screwdrivers/tools, you can get it at DIY shops or request for it from the ebay dealer. It wouldn't cost much too, for you info. Good Luck!

Hi to all. Regarding the issue of screen shutting off when the button is pressed is due to the POOR positioning of the LCD's flex-cable. FYI: to elaborate, the LCD's flex-cable was lay over the CPU's protective metal housing, right at the sharp edge. The key button no.4 and left-button is right above the flex-cable, therefore after prolonged use, the conductors of the flex-cable breaks. Once this condition happen, the only way of solving it is a replacement of the LCD. K850, a good phone that was purposely made to spoil easily. (*so that we pay more, and they get more)

i agree with nati. i've only had mine for, like, 9 mos. and it's starting to let me down. T_T Just a week ago, I brought it to the service center to have it repaired... again. When I press the buttons, the screen just shuts off and it got freakin' annoying! I can't use it at all. T_T I also had it repaired last month because I got BROD. Now I'm wondering if I should replace my phone with another SE. Specs are good but I'm wondering about it's durability. It's sad because SE makes really good phones. T_T

After less then 1 year of usage: - the phone suddenly turns off - the software is very slow - and during the calls the touch pad keeps active, starting shortcuts. I really hate this phone.

one way to say this the sonny ericsson hangs all the times because the 3G is open try click GSM only, go to settings, connectivity, mobile networks, then click GSM/3G then click GSM only. its simple dont waste your money. and if you want to use the 3G then do the same format but turn it back to GSM and 3G.

Jeff & K850i;) If you will look closely with previous posts, most of the people are giving precautions although some of them sounded upset -they may really have owned one. Both of you may still have your phone in good condition but you have to take considerations. Our phone (I used to own one -liked it! loved it!) is really sensitive overtime, especially on countries either having four seasons or too humid. The screen on my phone was fine until moisture from my hand or pants pocket affected the screen. I've had this phone way back 2007, I think it has done its job and I am very satisfied. As much as I would like to send it for repairs I recently decided to upgrade to a newer SE Model. So as others say -carefull with your phone, you'll love it more!

the following is to be read knowing and considering the major improvements included in newer phones I couldnt disagree more with most of these comments. i've had my k850i for 9 months now and it's simply great, not just the camera (which is awesome, absolutely no cons whatsoever IF YOU KNOW HOW TO USE IT), but the phone itself. The soft keys work perfectly, the d pad is great and the keys are, in my opinion, the best i've ever used. you just have to press them with the tip of your fingers and thats the end of it, they work just fine. i got a cover a few days after i bought it and there it is, shining as new without a single mark (neither on the screen or on the back)... the plastic it's made of is really high quality material, and the only painted parts which lost colour are some bits of the d pad due to my constant rubbing them with my nails while messaging. and its design is, in my opinion, probably the best for a candybar phone. the software never gave me a single problem, i actually never had a problem of any kind. the best phone i've ever had (and i've tried n95, zn5, various samsung models...) So if you are considering buying this phone (i'm not sure its available anymore, i hope it is) do so without hesitating - its definately worth its price... or maybe i just got the best unit they made :P and man, is that camera awesome or what??

if u r a k850 user plz b really carefull with the display.the display has no protecting cover on it.so its really vulnerable. the whole body is made out of really cheap plastic.the colour of phone will wear off within days.battery life is average.it has a few exciting features.thoug it comes with walkman but sound isnt great enough like the other walkman phones.camera is great.it lacks wifi.at the end of the day. a really interesting phone.its not that great but u wont regret buying it.

It has really cool features such as TrackID (takes a sample of a melody and it sends it via GPRS to a database and in a few seconds you receive the name of the artist and the song title), Photo organizer, photo slideshow with music theme and transition effects (sad, romantic, cheerful etc.), Face Warp, 5 different customizeable clock alarms, so you won't have to change the "every morning" alarm; remote control for computer via bluetooth and all the other Sony Ericsson cool stuff. The camera is a 5.0 MPixels Cybershot with autofocus and a lot of customizeable settings such as: environment selection, macro, flash mode (the flash is NOT led), ISO sensitivity, White balance, Image stabilisation etc. Camera can be accessed in a pretty cool way: on the right side of the phone there is a switch with 3 positions (photo, video and preview) mode and next to it is the on/off button. The three touch buttons are the major disatvantage of this great phone, because they FAIL to work. During one year of use, the phone had to be returned to service three times where they replaced the display and the keypad because of those touch buttons. It would have been an excellent phone without those touch buttons (with classic ones instead). Now it's just a great one.

I had this phone and what an absolute lemon it was. Good cameraa and music player, but had to get it replaced twice due to the screen freezing. Luckily, I got rid of it when the W995 came out which on the other had, has been a total peach! Avoid the K850i at all costs.

u r true bossss. nokia is a phone at all. the usage of nokia is so high in india only. this is because of its 1100 & 6600. these two phones are like splendor for hero honda. if hero honda stops producing splendor, their sales rate will fall down to 50%. like that only when they launched 1100 & 6600, they got a good manufacturer image. may be. but sony ericsson is like yamaha. once u use yamaha, they wont go to other brands. its possible only if they don't know how to use it. when they just go for nokia, they must worry abt virus and battery backup. coming to battery backup.... in nokia only the lower end models get high talktime like 8-9hrs. when we go for higher end, it gets lowerd to 3.5, 5, 5.5hrs. but in sony ericsson, no partiality. w200-aino=> min. 9hrs. thats sony ericsson. its a digi cam embedded with phone options. do u understand? its really the king of 5mp camera phone series. but only problem is with its flash. its exposture rate is so high. so the images gets so whitey when we take some images in night & in closeup. thats it. its not nonfixable. if we change the scene mode, we can rock. best thing for a camera beginner. hats offfff to sony ericsson-k850i

You can update even if there is no newer version of the phone, but try to get a program to update your phone or search on google to find that;)

My 850i has always given me problems. The issues started right after I bought it. It would reboot by itself, the camera stopped working for a while and started working again by itself. The rebooting became constant and after about 14 months it turned of by itself and it does not turn on! It is dead! Called Sony Ericsson for repair and it costs $150 US ... well a new one is selling for $255. - Not worth it. I will go back to Nokia, much more reliable. I am back using my old Nokia 6600!! Yep old but reliable!

I re-flashed the firmware of my K850 last Saturday because the screen only showed the letters aeiou (vowels) plus c, d. Now it's works like a charm again. For those who love their K850, or have had it for some tome now must know that one of the thing you have to live with is having to flash and re-flash the firmware. I bought a pair of Sennheiser earphones and attached them to my K850 with a 3.5 plug adapter and the sound from the Media Player was GRRREATTT!!!! Impressive considering this phone only has basic Walkman features.

I had a K750i and if you go to music player from menu it would use the battery up, however if you played it without going to menu(from play button on side it would last a long time..maybe it is the same for this model?

Touchpad is as hardware problem and needs to be replaced, preferably by an authorized repair center because it is really complex within... If you've ever taken apart a digital camera, you'll know what i'm talking about :)

Great phone... Touch pad went dead but was repaired by SONY ERICSSON within 3 days... The camera takes EXCELLENT night photo's due to the xenon flash, however, during the day, pictures go blurry irrespective of auto-focus if you don't play around with the settings... but once mastered, you can pass as a professional cyber-shotter ;-) I have this phone for over two years and I'm still loving it... This was my first Sony Ericsson ever, but certainly not the last... any suggestions on an upgrade :-? will be appreciated :-D

I have this phone for almost 2years. Until now i had only one problem with te touchpad, whitch war resolved in waranty. A year ago i update the firmware, and since then it works great!(the upgrade fixed some bugs) This is the best phone i ever had. Simple design, nice display, great camera, good software and excellent battery.

this is really a nice phone. once i got this last year i never thought of another phone that would replace this. But i had a problem once when the keypad got a little crazy two months after i bought it. but got fixed anyway with warranty. it hasn't been broken ever since. i like the resolution, touch screen, motion sensor, sound quality, cool themes, and the oh so cool camera. very nice. the D-pad can be a little fuzzy at first but you'll just get used to it (and play WTA tennis very effectively soon enough). and the battery area is kinda innovative -- i'm a bit tired of those phones which you have to remove the entire back casing to get the memo card, battery, etc. very very very comfortable to use. sleek. to those who have phones like this, just don't play too much games, and don't ever wet the phone if you want a longer life for it.

Baloch, I understand how you feel about the phone and good on you that you have it replaced. But just in case you come accross with a phone with the same camera/light feature, take note that not because it has a flash it could be used as it is. K850 has a good camera settings actually -ISO adjustment, Panorama shots, Adjustable pix-file size from VGA to 5MP, Lense Focus -not bad for a mobile phone ya? I take pictures with my telescopic Nikon digital camera and K850 has somehow has the same principle on taking pictures. It's just a matter of learning more about your phone. The sad part is different users explore their phone according to their interests. I hope you agree...

I reccommend that you don't expect much, on the other hand I appreciate the following points; 1.Accelerometer -for pix/video viewing and some games. 2.Clear display -256k 3.Reasonable camera -sharper than usual 4.Good lighting -handy bright torch 5.FM radio -for boring moments The rest is for you to find out on how you use your standard phone. I am looking into the Xperia as upgrade but I'll take my time and read more feedback, but I know eventually I'll have one of those for it I find it usefull on my eXplod car stereo -handsfree when driving!

mine did the same. all you have to do is run the sony ericsson update service ( you can download it if u dont have the S.E disc) then connect ur fon to the computer withn a data cable then run update service with an internet connection

@BBoy My LCD has died once before last year (3 months after I got it)and had to get it fixed, luckily it was under warranty. This time it died just before Xmas and i just ordered a Nexus 1 to replace my K850. I'd suggest you buy a new phone cos the LCD will keep dying.

I love my K850!!!!I had some firmware problems and i took my cell to the service where they change my firmare wich works about 2 weeks until my phone stops working and wasn't start anymore!i find at www.topsony.com R1FA035 firmware and i put this firmware on my K850 with A2uploader and in this way i bring my phone to life,now i'm very happy,no more problems!I also change the vodafone software on a W910i with a firmware wich has sony ericsson icons not vodafone!So anyone who have problems with K850 go visit topsony where you can learn how to change your firmware and fix your phone!

kinda hard to take pictures on dark places or twilight places its either you'l get a total dark picture or too bright picture but most of the time its a black blind picture maybe the lens ISO is too crappy on adjusting. but great phone its very luxurious compare to N82 looks like a bar of soap and full of ugly plastic. and the size is much smaller that N82. and by the way who needs GPS and WLAN on N82 it very slow it would take 1000 years before you can open a webpage its sucks!

(Very rare infact). 2) When Xeone flash is ON, it takes either blind pic or may have an extra bright pic. Thats a major problem with it. Without flash its result is perfect. Great quality. 3) It doesn't support live streaming. You can't play UTUBE on it. (Officially confirmed from UTUBE website). 4) Its by default Internet Browser is not great. Better use Opera Mini 5 Beta for GPRS/EDGE/3G etc. 5) Buttons are too hard to press. Not good for you if you are SMS lover. 6) People complain about its touch sensors. I myself had to replace them after 18 months of use. (But easily available in market). EVERY THING ABOVE IS WHAT I HAVE EXPERIENCED.

my girl friend just gave me her k850i because she always over seas traveling doing her job.(she is not a phone person)only thing she used to do with it was just take photo.. so now i ave it an its working great,in great condition and very fast, only problem i ave wit it is that wen i try to receive email i keep getting TLS/SSL server certifcates not authorized by known authorithy. oh and i had to repair the software. still working on solving that problem....well am in jamaica and the cost for it here is like 60k JMD...and she got it for early last year

Wow im on this site n looking into getting a new phone as my K850i has gone to the bin. I was curious to see how ohter people faired with it. Mate you have just said word for word what happened to me! I had it repaired twice in less than 1.5yrs now the insurance company have agreed to replace it. the camera was awsome but so many weird things happened with it like you mentioned it was rediculous. good to hear I wasn't the only one.

In my experience K850i is a legend, I owned a N95 8GB soon after selling K850i (which i regret doing), N95 8GB obviously was rubbish for using as a phone itself. K850i was the business, from camera to telephony it's perfect I miss mine but i've got the perfect upgrade to it the W995 and i'm satisfied!

So I see that there are mixed reviews about this phone..some peopple think its great and others seems to have quite a few problems with it. Well, I got this phone like a year and a half ago and it started off GREAT! I used to love this phone, but then like 5-6 months in it started to just shut off on its own (the battery was fully charged) so i sent it in to get repaired. When i got it back it was pretty good for a while and for the past 5 months now it's been HORRIBLE! I get a ridiculous amount of dropped calls (and i spoke to my service provider and they said its a problemm within the phone) and it restarts itself ALL THE TIME, and calls don't even get through to me. It's really annoying and frustrating to deal with! From my personal experience, I would suggest you look into something else, because this phone isn't all that great. The only good thing about it is the awesome 5.0mp camera

around 11k to 13K in mumbai. though i havent seen it in many shops here for some time. don't go to places like "the mobile store" etc they still sell it at 20k (if they sell it at all). although this is a beautiful phone, has an excellent camera and after more than a year still the envy of my friends, i'd recommend that you go for some other phone since this model is pretty old now. see the C901, C903, C905, C702 or C510 if ur looking for a camera phone or wait a bit and get the W995, will be sub 20K soon (22K now, i think). bye.

Just installed Opera Mini 5 Beta 2 on my phone. Works like a charm it is like Google Chrome, only not a PC version! Those who r complaining about this phone, either you've got duplicate Chinese version or u need to upgrade to the latest firmware. Whoever said that this phone is slow needs to use some Nokia phones!!! Anyway, after almost 2 yrs of using this phone, I am finally selling this phone to buy Omnia HD or Satio.

k850 sux big time since it was starting models of A2 platform it has lot of bugs like slow interface restarting itself and etc the flash is very delicate if it fall down 2 or 3 times then flash will brake it will cost you arond 30 pound you use keypad very hard the display will also damage coz the connecting strip of the display is below the keypad without any protect this my own experience i had the for 10 month and now its junk

unexpectedly well built. dropped it several times from decent heights no damage. just recently i dropped it from about 5 feet into a puddle of water. phone was completely submerged for a good minute. took it out, removed battery, let it dry for 30 mins, stitched on, worked perfectly fine. good one SE.

I forgot to mention (aside from some of the type-os, sorry,) the keypad. At first I thought this new style of keypad would be difficult to use, but it mostly is not. In fact, I can type text messages and emails with ease. The directional pad is a little awkward at times, but still effective. It is, however, horrible to games. Pac-Man and shoot-em-up games are pretty much a no-go without much practice and patience. And there are times when I push UP and accidentally trigger the middle softkey. Again, mostly usable, with only minor, non-critical annoyances here. I do, however, miss the BACK button which existed on my K790a. The END button operates like holding the BACK button, just DO NOT USE IT DURING A CALL! I have more than once accidentally ended a call trying to return from email, contacts, or a menu by pressing END. Whoops!

I have had my K850i for about four months now. My first unit purchased from a dealer had issues which caused it to run un-Godly slowly, including non-responsiveness in the touch-sensitive areas of the screen. I got it replaced and I have had no hardware problems with the unit. What I do have problems with is the sluggishness and how crash-prone it is. I run a lot of Java application and do a lot of Bluetooth. I have found times when the Bluetooth stack apparently freezes or (thinking in terms of a service) restarts itself, evident by all Bluetooth devices going offline and suddenly reconnecting. Java applications seem to run pretty well, if you only do one or two at a time. But the media player causes the whole thing to crawl. There are time when the phone will hang when making a phone call. Usually right after starting the call, it freezes on the number and does not indicate that it is dialing. The call continues, but all functions are locked out, which is a major pain when you have to enter numbers to answer a voice prompt. And do not expect to have a 16GB M2 filled with media. Anytime the phone reboots, especially from a crash, or you insert the card, the phone scans the card for media. This process will take longer depending upon the amount of media you have, and will render your phone essentially unusable during the scan. It appears to maintain an internal media database, as there have been times when the bloody thing refused to recognize a new song I sent via Bluetooth or copied directly over using the portable media player function. Even reinserting the card would not work on such an occasion, I had to remove, scan, insert, and scan again. Video playback, MP4 H.264 506kbps and AAC stereo 96kbps, is inconsistent in performance. Sometimes it is spot on, and other times it will be choppy and/or the video will be out of sync with the audio. It has problems rendering album art in MP3 or M4A files generated by some programs, but I can correct that by retagging them using MP3Tag. Corrupt GIFs can cause the phone to crash. WTF! And if you run IMAP email with push enabled, your woes will increase many times over. The camera has problems with the stabilizer. In fact, mine seems to take picture more blurry with the stabilizer disabled! Now, on to the good experiences. The Bluetooth is EXCEPTIONALLY useful (when it works properly, of course.) No locks on what it can or cannot do, and I have it paired with about 16 devices varying from laptops, computers, Palms, other phones, a GPS, an earpiece, and a plethora of A2DP devices. It can handle them all simultaneously, though it prefers 2.0 devices over 1.x. One annoyance is it does not switch well between A2DP devices, but that is non-critical. Internet over Bluetooth is VERY snappy, even when on a call (3G only, most EDGE systems do not allow simultaneous usage.) The email client is functional and usable. Certificate management is simple and flexible, unlike many phones (iPhone,) though I would like to see S/MIME support. The camera is sharp and clear, and has a fantastic flash, though it is clear the optics could be better. The USB functionality is excellent, providing Internet via an emulated NDIS interface, a portable media device interface, and OBEX interface all at the same time in phone mode. Mass media storage requires a reboot and falling out of phone mode, another annoyance. Another small annoyance is the inability to put the phone in (or out) of flight mode without a reboot, and the lack of a reboot option in the shutdown menu. Calls are stable and reliable, well as much as AT&T can me. Data is the same, and FAST. I get upwards of 2Mb, and with the Bluetooth I have speed-tested at close to the 3Mb limit. I also like how each Java application can have its own Internet connection -- one can use the WAP interface while another goes directly to the Internet (ISP or PDA plan.) Anyway, it is difficult to say I hate this phone, and difficult to say I love it. It is kinda like my feet: they are great for getting me around, and I would have a difficult time without them, but sometimes they hurt or even manage to get in the way of themselves. Since Sony Ericsson has given the word that there will be no more firmware updates, I have decided that I will learn how to mod and patch my phone, the first mod will be a new camera driver, possibly the CyberShot XPerience.

I replaced the LCD after 1 1/2 years (sudden screen black-out when i press the keypads - may be due to over and carless used) So far thats the only problem i encountered. When i went to service center, they quote me the repair price and then repair period for 4weeks so i decided to bring it in other non accredited SE service center. They replaced my LCD in just 4mins. The really problem is the SE service center not the product.

I discovered that when you charge the phone if the battery charge is 14% below, it will give you that error. But if you charge it at 15% above, it will not give you that error and will charge till 100%. Hope this helps.

Had this phone for 2.5 years now. The two main things that bug me about the phone are : - Software is quirky and there is a slowdowns sometimes if multiple events are happening - it is because the transparencies stack up and overwhelm the phone. - Durability might be an issue, I think there is a loose speaker wire in the phone and the earpiece speaker stops working about 1/2 the time. Aside from that, features and things work as expected. The flash on the camera is great, bluetooth works well, can't comment much about the Internet browsing because I don't use it that much.

This phone ROCKS it's just great, camera is awesome, xenon flash is beater then on most compact cameras. Pictures look beater then on low end cameras. The screen is the best I've seen on any mobile phone, contrast, view angle ... every aspect is just superb. Phone feels solid and responsive. The only drawback is the mask that tends to get fingerprints smudges.

Mate, don't even think of g900. I like all SE phones, except g900. Even a w810i takes better pix than the g900! Regarding sound, g900's speaker is better. But, overall, k850i beats the g900 hands down!

Well, if u want a good camera, go for k850i. But, if u want better music options, go for the w902. And if u want a lot of softwares/games+ good music, go for the w960 which operates on Symbian OS.

rubbish phone. Nice design. But It freezes all the time. specially when u dial a number. I have a lot of problems with this fone. I have listed them before. I like to do it again: 1. Freezing all the time 2. Very low response of touch buttons. they were great when the fone was new. but after 1 year of using ........!!! 3. touch buttons act when u press other buttons. for example BACK gets selected when u press 6 button!! 4. fone restarts every now and then. 5. data stored on the memory stick gets erased by itself. 6. Voice dialing doesn't work. It just says "try again" each time i try to record a name 7. When i receive a call (not saved on the phonebook) it doesn't show the number in the call logs. neither in answered nor in missed calls 8. It hangs when i miss a call. i have to remove the battery and insert it again. 9. very noisy loudspeaker 10. fone restarts sometimes when i start camera 11. Very low battery life. i charge it once a day with normal use. just 1 or 2 calls and a few sms 12. xenon flash doesnt work. it was working when the fone was new 13. when i want to reach system files, i phold the c button and insert the usb cable, but it never works!!! and there r many other problems i dont remember now..

Its very bad mobile bcoz when you call to the NEW number at fisrt time, you cann't disconnect the call due to performance problem. TWO years I had a problem. I never recommand this K850i model

I bought this phone off ebay for 300 bucks and it is the worst investment i have ever made. It freezes up all the time and randomly restarts, mainly during camera use, which results in lost pictures. It is extremely clunky and slow. The buttons are of poor design because they are so small that texting with them is a nuisance. I used to have a w810i before this phone and thought it would be a nice upgrade but i would choose the w810i over this any day. w810i also has better features that were not included in this model On the plus side the camera is nice BUT it focuses like crap. It is very hard to get a picture that truely takes advantage of the quality. REMEMBER: megapixels are not everything.

You have this problem because you hold the phone with your fingers covering the sensor when taking pics. Hold the phone at the edges as illustrated in the manual and you will see the result..

how about sony eric c702? it has face detection, but only 3.2 megapixel cmera..it has gps. video with 30fps..dual led flash but not that productive.its an average phone,.splash proof-you can shoot pics while dancing in the rain-that feature makes you outstand with friends..but its not that good looking, and maybe because of the materials used to make it splash and dust proof, the display and sound is kinda annoying

This phone ROCKS! I have installed Opera 5.0, KD player, Compass, Mobile Dictionary (AED), File Lock, lots of themes from different sources, lots of mp3's (280 and counting), music vids and THEY ALL WORK BEAUTIFULLY. Not to mention great quality 5MP pics from precious moments! At the moment I cannot imagine getting a new phone, not even the more robust 8MP or Symbian v60 4th edition phones out there. If you need a 8MP cam or higher, better get a digital camera or digital SLR. If you are soo into Music, an MP3 player will be best. This phone came form almost being discontinued to being in full production again! That's how good it is! I almost consider it my friend!!! Love this phone!

Have u actually used this phone? The battery doesn't come out while u r trying to remove the memory card! And regarding the battery life, mine lasts 3-5 days. Turn on powersave and turn off push messages. Reduce the brightness and c the difference.

i had k850i and i have seen c902. i think the camera of k850i is better than c902. but c902 is smaller in size and a newer model than k850i. you have to decide which one you will buy. but don't think too much about it. just buy anyone. both are almost same

tu telefono esta fallado, yo tuve un w810 y hacia lo mismo, en cuentionde hras se descargaba, lo lleve a garantia y me lo cambiaron. si te taradara 2 dias o un dia la pila seria cuention de sistema con el omnia que solo dura 1 max 2 dias por lo que trae touch 3g, menssenger, etc. pero el k850 no, yo tengo uno ahora y me tarda 5 dias la bateria y se crga en 2 oras maximo.

I can think of a few reasons why not all would buy the Omnia HD. 1. Not everyone can afford it. 2. It's not their type 3. They really prefera different OS. I am an Omnia user too but I would really recommend the k850 for those who want a nice camera phone/mp3 player.

This phone( Sony Ericsson K 850 I ) is officially the worst I ever had. It constantly freezes and after a while the screen dies. It has been in for repairs 5 times for the same problem over the last year and a half. Sony Ericsson did a really bad job here. Many software upgrades later i am still sitting with a handset that does not work and Sony Ericson just says sorry your warrantee is only 12 months...... They just lost a customer here who is spearding the news!!!

hi, eric. that's my problem too. the battery life's suppose to last for, 4-5 days but mine lasts for a maximum of 3 days only. maybe the problem's w/ your battery. you can try to save battery life by switching to gsm mode, lowering brightness to 50%. that's what i did. you can also read prev. posts here, they give ideas on how to maximize battery life. hope this helps. :))

You will not be able to use the update srvice cause its dead,,you need to get it to service centre to get it working then update ur k850i but the service centre will have already done that..My comment has to stay true,i have said this is my last s/e and have to keep to it..Truth be told i was ready to buy xperia 2 but with no d-pad and not much upgrade its not worth it .. then my k770i just failed in front of my eyes and can not continue to support this company.. I bought my SE K850i two years ago. I had decided not to write any opinion until after awhile. K850i is a 5 stars phone worth its price. It has all u need in a phone. K850i intenet opens fast,en I do alot of bible study from it. Being a Church Elder, K850i helps me alot to broarden my Bible messages.IN EVERYTHING I THANK MY LORD JESUS. It is called the BROD (blue ring of death). Apparently, it can be solved by upgrading your phone's firmware via SEUS (sony ericsson update service). I tried doing that but my phone doesn't get detected by my computer.

hey. the exact thing happened to me with the k580. i had it for over 1 year but it actually spent about half-a-year at the service center. i also trade it off with a n82 which packs a lot more features.

hlp pls.... im using k850i almost for 10 months ....now im experiencing a problem.... when i press No 1,4,7 and the right,left,down nevigation keys the display of the phone goes off(black)...n only the keypad lights blinks... after around 10secs, whn i press any button other than those keys...again the display works lik normal..... still those key are wrking...i mean if i press down nevigation button it opens the contact even the display goes dark... i installed the new firmware by "update service" but still the problem continues ..... can any one help me pls......

Hmm..I think you might have misunderstood what megapixels mean. A good 2 megapixel camera can always beat a cr@ppy 12 megapixel camera. The difference that the mpx would give is the maximum size that the image can be viewed/printed. The bigger mpx can accommodate bigger images...but not "better". I have been shooting photos from my k850 that can compete with SLR's. It's also good to know that it;s not always about the gadget...the gadget is only a tool.

Since when is 2.2 inches bigger than 2.4 inches??? Get your facts straight before posting something here. I disagree with you when you say that the K850i is the best camera phone ever... A 5 megapixel camera can't be better than a 8 or 12 megapixel camera phone. Even in its category, the K850i does not have the best camera - it only has a great screen that makes anything you view in the phone great! The C905 is also a great camera phone and has a lot more features than the K850i... One thing I do agree with you on is that SE are really making a mistake if they leave the K-series behind. SE does create some nice phones, they problem is that they are quick to anounce but slow to produce. E.g. They anounced the first 12 megapixel but Samsung are the 1st to sell it to the public.

Im an Sony Ericsson fan but this phone is the worst phone i ever had. I had D750,K800,K810, then K850,after that I have to switch to N82 which is an outstanding phone and i have w960 at the same time.Now im planning to buy w995. Based on my experience this phone is the worst of them all.My K800 performs better in camera and my N82 is very far better than my K850.I don't recommend anyone to buy this though it has a unique design. Have to bring to service center 4 times.

go to sony ericsson center, it can solve ur prob. i have same prob like u then i sent it to se center. they only change outer glass. actually outer glass is easy to scratch, so u must used a cover or glove to protect ur phone from scratch.

Make sure the internal lens cover is open in camera mode. Sometimes the internal lens cover does not open when it is already in camera mode.

Thats BROD alright!! Re install firmware with sony ericsson update service from sony ericsson website!! Even if u already have latest firmware, re installin it should fix it but u will lose everythin on internal memory!!

Oh God! After 18 mnths and 2 days, my k850i is officially dead! I threw it around a lot a few days b4 it died. It doesn't start at all. Only the keypad and the blue ring around the cam lens is lit. I am using this mobile for about 1 year. I bought it new. This phone has great features but its keypad is very annoying. Its not soft. So if you are continuously working then it causes pain in the thumb. But otherwise performance and features are great. But keypad should be soft so that you can work even longer......!

Reading most of the opinions here I am totally confused as to how you guys use your phones. I am a rough user myself but I didn't have any problems with this phone. I must admit I had it serviced once because I SAT ON IT and it lost audio and only audio. I have had this phone for more than a year now and it still works. no brod, no touch sensor malfunction, speakers are really nice, quite easy to use.

I have to agree with you on that Jass11, R1FA035 is the latest firmware available and when I do an Software Update using my K850i (From the settings), it shows that I'm using the latest firmware. I guess it was all a rumour that SE were ccoking up a new firmware for the K850i.

I almost feel guilty for abusing my K850i. I just purchased a 2GB Micro SD card and I have been downloading mp3's, tones, applications, images and themes plus taking pics and vids. And so far my K850 hasn't hanged, Not ONCE!!! I am so happy with my cellphone I have decided to keep it till it breaks down on me, which hopefully will be in the distant future!!! *** updating Firmware is the key *** I have sent an email to the SE Website to verify the rumored 2008 / 2009 firmware. I will post their answer as soon as they reply. I will definitely have my firmware updated if this proves to be true (the current ver is R1FA 035, which I have).

I have been using SE phones for 6-7 years.. now i'm starting to get the pain of dragging a SE phone for more than a year cause it stops working properly. currently m using a SE k850i phone for 13 months (-)it's giving me a hell-of-a-problem with the touch key pad (absolutely a ridiculous concept)which doesn't work properly. e.g. imagine u r trying to send a msg and u r pressing d send touch key and it's not responding to your touch... grrrrrrrr... it's so frustrating. When I try to take a picture with the flash on, I hear that 'flicking sound' as if the flash has lighted up and then I get a blank (Black) picture with no light. Actually there is no specific software for sony mobiles regarding the anti virus. Mostly your memory card may get into virus may be in your phone memory too. You can clean them using your PC virus. But no software is available to our mobile till now. And the battery will not remain for 400hrs. At most it will come for 2 - 3 days. Becs tat 400hrs is tested under std conditions which is similar to the bike millage proposed by the bike dealers.

What themes have you added? I have at least 5 tyoes of menu icons before I restored factory settings on my phone (due to really bad curiosity). It changes icons all the time. If you change themes, only the backround color changes?

I am not sure if it is possible to download and install by yourself since I have not tried. The pre-condition (like having the battery charged 100%) is just there as a reminder that you need to have a charge that will last until the download and installation finishes. What happens is that if you fail in a middle of the download, you lose all information, you lose your software, your phone is heading to the repair shop :D

I don't have any podcasts downloaded, as well as audio books. In a way, an audio book is practically a book that is recorded in audio. it may be in a form of any audio format. See, the audio books in the K850i is just there so you can place your audio books in one section and not mix it up with your music files. Podcasts, imagine torrents. They are downloaded bit by bit...now podcasts are on a much simpler model. If ypou download a podcast, and there is a series to that, the downloader automatically identifies what is next in the series.

Yes it is a nice multimedia device...takes good pictures. I, however, would really like to experience the BROD because in the 1 year I have been using this phone I never experienced it. Only then can I recommend solutions for it.

You can update the software by installing the disc that came with the box. There is an updater there. If you have dust in your camera lens, I think you need to have that serviced. You can try a vaccuum cleaner (the one used for laptops) but I don't think it'll work. Replacing the navigation buttons....I don;t have an idea how much it'll cost.

I own these phone for about a year now.. and it works great...even thow i have other phones i only used this for m.Media purposes.. and it supports 8gb of mmcard.. a lot of pictures to be taken.. but what i really hate about it is the BROD time to time i have to restart mine,to avoid Being BROD! all in all buy this if you have other phones as a backup in case of some of it's faulty features.

Alright. Have you tried installing new frimware? You can try bringing the unit to SE service center. The ones I know of are in SM North, Trinoma, Robinsons Galeria. it's most probably a firmware issue. Some cellphone repair shops might also be able to help you with it. Although it is rare, I have seen one cell repair shop in caloocan tear down a K850, isolated the problem, and assembled it back up and running. The only limitation they have (based on my interview) is that is it's an issue with the circuitry then they can't fix it because it's pretty hard to get info about the inner-workings of most SE phones (K850 being one of the toughest ones).

Hello no one, Check if the simcard is secured tightly. Things like that happen to me only when I hotswap sim cards. I reckon if your card gets loose, it acts as if it's refreshing the system. What do you usually do to rectify the problem and get it back working? BTW are you from the PH?

i got my this phone for not more than a year... honestly it is a nice and great phone for me.! nice photo shot, good sound music. and easy to navigate, but just this mos. i experience something prob. to my phone... wherever i was typing or navigating too fast my k850i got stock in a sec. or sometimes turn off by itself and then back again. at first i think its just normal because maybe im too fast.. but in my shock one day i was texting then the screen just got black and there's nothing i can see. i dont even know if the keypad is responding because although i dont see a thing but there still a back ligth on my keypad..but the screen really not cooperating!! i dont know what happen to my phone it was never been fall ever!!! im not even addict on texting!! it just only normal to me to navigate fast... it so badtrip!!!

The lens cover getting stuck is a physical problem. It may be that something might be too tight there. If it is a physical problem then expect it to either get worse or get resolved by itself (i am basing this on the fact that it opens when you tap it). I personally never encountered a problem like that for the last 12 months i've used the phone.

Just got the K850i off ebay, sent from China. Seems great, but a couple times the camera lens cover would get stuck when powering on the camera. It seems to respond to the tapping trick to get it to open. Is this problem something I can expect to get worse? Any good fix? I can try to return it (possibly a hassle) and risk getting a worse lemon, or is this a stable problem that I could maybe live with? So far it isn't a huge bother, but it would be nice if it weren't an issue at all.

I've heard you can put in 8GB but I haven't tried it yet. I am not sure if it will slow down but SE phones (especially this one) has been known to perform good even when pushed to its capacity limit unlike Nokia phones who guarantee 4GB but slows down at 2GB.

if it says that your software is up-to-dat then that means you are already using the latest. if your firmware crashes it may be caused either by a bad firmware, or phone misuss/abuse.

If the camera output becomes deteriorated, it most probably is a physical issue. Try cleaning the lens cover. When was the last time you updated the spftware? Software also plays a big part in camera output. Did this happen after a new software update?

Please make sure that the contactpoint of your charger to your phone is properly secured. Sometimes, if the contact moves (connects/disconnects), it may show you that the battery is full when in fact it's not. If you still have problems after making sure contactpoints are okay, buy a new battery.

I charged my mobile for about 2 hrs & it showed as fully charged. I did not even touch my mobile 4 hrs but after that i checked my battery status, 15% of battery charge drained out. How can i maintain my battery charge? Please any one help me.......

I love this phone allot, this is the 3rd time the firmware cash dam!. tried to install the firmware again using SE software update form the pc, it only will prompt yr software is up to date and will end there. The older versions of software update, i am able to install the firmware even it prompts "u have a new version installed". i even complain to SE yet there is no reply from them. As a SE fan im truly disappointed.

I am not sure if I just got lucky with my K850 but I have had it for 8 months now and so far its still doing very well. I've said it in a past post here that after the firmware upgrade I had for it after my encounter with the B.R.O.D., my K850 is operating beautifully. I even sometimes abuse it, using its mp3 player, radio, 3G almost excessively and I am glad to say it hasn't given up on me yet. My estimate ratio of hanging per month/s is 1:3-5. I think my unit is one of the earlier ones but I don't know if that has any connection to its great performance whatsoever. I also love its solid feel in my hand.

that is very unfortunate. People get lemons every once in a while. There are even people who find lemons buying the high end phones like the omnia, n97, iphone 3gs. but i still stand on my conviction that my k850 works fine even after a year. I mainly use it now for multimedia and shooting photos because I already have my omnia i900 as my primary phone.

I read there is a fair amount of people damning the K850, I have had a workmate whos K850 started to fail a while back, she ended up switching handsets but I have the K850, have used it for well over a year and I have no problems what so ever. Its not the fastest of things but neither is it a snail, its a phone that takes good pictures and plays music well and copes with the applications/internet and email that I need to have a useful gadget as well as a phone.

You don't happen to work for Sony Ericsson by any chance? I had this phone for just over a year. It broke three times whilst on warranty. Now it broke the fourth time and I do not think it is worth repairing. Software and screen are recurring issues. It will often reset itself over and over. I liked it when it worked but the amount of sofware and hardware problems with it is unacceptable. DO NOT BUY IT

got a problem w/ my unit. my sister said that i should do "initial charging" for the phone upon purhcase before actually using it otherwise battery life becomes greatly affected. did not heed her advice since the phone retailer told me that i should drain the batt charge first before charging it for around 2-3 hrs. that's what i did. but now battery life lasts only for about 2-3 days even when on standby. i've tried switching to gsm mode only and lowering the screen's brightness for, like, 60% but it's still the same. just wondering if should have listened to my sister. is she right or there's just something wrong w/ my phone? i'd appreciate any reply. good day. �

Again, it's all about the user and not the equipment. 1 year and still perfect for me. Camera is one of the best there is. Sound is comparable to the walkman series. Yes it could use WiFi, but I totally understand that this phone is reaching out to a totally different market. BTW, I also have the Samsung Omnia i900, and there is a reason why I am not ditching my K850i...it's simply because it's a good phone and I still have a use for it.

hi hasan i would try to update is using SEUS (sony update service) or debranding it. If its not debranded this is recommended becuz phone will be faster. search 'a2uploader debrand' or 'debranding k850' or somthing im sure youll find a tutorial somewhere. bye

@ joe: for the ring volume you can install a new audio driver since i doubt its a h/w problem. havent come across a flashing screen ON KEY PRESS. explain. though mostly keypad/pcb problem. search this forum for similar problems that have been solved. @ hasan. K850 is a beauty of a phone, but its not that powerful. applying heavy themes does make it slow. crashing while installing a theme may be the fault of the theme file itself. to both of u this is a standard piece of advice "re install the phone's firmware using software provided on the cd that came with the phone."

No. I think the IMEI number is kind of a barcode. Ig u remove your battery and check below it, there is a rubber thingy which has the IMEI encoded on it (I think). It will be the same irrespective of the flashing.

Is there anyone out there who has installed the KD player on their K850i? I would like to have the generic orange skin replaced by downloading some through the phone but I don't know how. There was a site teaching how to do so through downloading on a PC then transferring to the phone through USB but I don't have the convenience of doing so right now. Thanks.

Thanks guys. That's what i thought but felt i should just ask cos one never knows it all. Moreso the tech guy looked ok and innocent. But he told me he just changed the screen. I have this habit of recording serial numbers of product before giving out for repairs otherwise i wouldn't have discovered the different imei number. Well, i got another phone in my phone facia now for the price of the screen.

IMEI should be the same if it's the same phone they've given you (they probably replaced it if the IMEI is different)?

i dont think so because imei numbers are the phones identity. networks use them to block them if they get lost/stolen and police keep a look out for the stolen one by identifying the phones imei and hopefully returning it to its owner. if flashing did changed the imei then it render what ive just wrote obsolete. and people could use stolen blocked phones freely once they flash it meaning that mobile phone crime would probably go up

I've had the K850i since November 2007. Never had any problems with the touch buttons.. they work as well as the regular ones. This phone saved me from boredom last year, when I was living overseas coz I loaded all my movies & videos (converted to 3gp/mp4).... I didn't have a laptop/ipod back then! The only issues I had were: 1) The BROD about 6 months ago. I did a firmware update through SE's online update service & voils.. good as new. 2) In spite of the upgraded firmware, the phone does turn off without warning occasionally, usually when the media player is running. This is the 4th SE phone I've had. The camera is really amazing, I've no need to carry my digicam when I'm out with friends, and feel like taking pics. If you find the browser is slow, then just download the latest version of Opera Mini, it works like a charm. Will definitely hang on to the K850i for quite a while longer.

I love this phone! I kicked it across a street once and it still worked! Camera one of the best for its time, no doubt. Music playback good as well. Yea, the touch screen goes wrong, but it never did on mine and that's all that matters to me!!

there is no problem in this mobile ... it has 5 megapixzel camera if you compare camera result wih nokia phones the result is so much excellent because k850i is cybershot phone...there is rotating sensor in it and much more gyus .... it depends on you are you a bad or goood user of your mobile........ bye guys

It has been more than six months since I got this phone. after the firmware upgrade I had for it last December when I encountered the infamous BROD, my K850 has been working fine. I saw the pics I took and uploaded in Flickr on a flat screen LCD monitor and I was really impressed by their quality. My K850 is also my mp3 player now. For a more Walkman effect dowload the KD player for better sounding mp3's. Yes I guess it depends on how you use it and how lucky you are to get the better manufactured ones - applies to all cp's I guess.

This phone has great sound quality,very much comparable to the walkman phones. With regards to issues with the screen turning off. I have used this phone for 1 year now and never encountered such. This phone now serves as my secondary phone but I still use it quite often.

you're either 1)covering the sensor (a small hole below the flash). or 2)covering half the flash or 3)taking photos in the wrong mode. use flash only when taking photos of things within 2-3 meters. or when in pitch dark. tip: keep fingers on the sides, not touching the back of the phone (camera side). if anything obstructs the flash or sensor the photos come out dark/unusable. if none of this helps, update firmware.( kinda feel like Roy from "the IT Crowd" tv series saying this, similar to when he says "hello, IT, have u tried switching it off and on again?" to every caller)

when in doubt, backup data and re install or update firmware. if all else fails, take the cell phone to SE centre no matter how excruciatingly expensive it may turn out to be. that is all i can say. the photo resolution problem sounds like a bug. check firmware. application memory too may be firmware error but i suggest u re install the applications themselves too.

No reason why you should not be able to view anything higher than 800*600. Are you saying you cannot view pictures taken with your phone camera when resolution is set at 1megapixel or higher? I find this difficult to believe.

I have had this phone for a year and two months, i know exactly why it was discontinued in most countries. It doesn't work. The camera is amazing, and have heard that the touch sensors for the soft keys are a pain, but mine never gave me a problem, unless my hands had moisture on them. Anyways, why i dont recomend this phone, is becuase it has errors really bad. About once or twice a month i have to reinstall my whole phone losing everything that cannot be backup onto my memory card (which isn't really anything) but you lose all apps and games becuase they are not restored when you start your phone again. I dont know why the phone messes up, but like i said about twice a month the phone's screen turns black the keys light up brighter, and the light around the lens stays lit up like it the phone does when you turn it on... but it stays that way. you have to use Sony ericsson update to reinstall thewhole thing. blahhh! it is annoying. anyways, if you like taking decent pics and videos, and can handle reinstalling your phone about twice a month it is an alright phone. :D

it looks like a brik in my opinion, the design is very bad, the hard shaped buttons are not nice to the touch, its not worth to buy it just because the camera...i suggest you buy a photo camera if you want quality pictures not this device. So its weak and very ugly.

Hi Curious, The latest pricing i saw was 21K in SM North but if you go to Greenhills you can get a new one for as low as 17K, just be patient in going around and haggling. I got mine last Dec for 19K (new). Just make sure to get a receipt and warranty card.
