Still have this and use it as my main phone, I absolutely love it. I bought it on May 2008 and it is still holding up great. The battery still lasts for a week on standby. Only issues are the jog dial is finicky and the charging port needs some wiggling in order to get it to charge. It is much more practical than modern smartphones due to its size and the physical keypad. I will continue to use this over modern smartphones, which I do own but rarely use.

Sorry just to add some tech infos The original battery is 1120 mah, li-po, type BST-40 & not 950 mah as mentioned by gsmarena It does take also the BST-33 / 950 mah (from the k800) same size but thinner, the bst-33 due to lower mah, it last way less However at the k800 can not use the BST-40 because while the round / side sizes are correct ones, the bst-40 is thicker & will not fit inside the k800 ... if you push it hard in, then it will never come out of the k800 The manufacturer saying it can work up to 2 - 4GB memory card ... but i have a Sandisk Memory Stick Micro (M2) 8GB since day one i got the phone and works great (even the card after 10 years) no issue noticed using 8GB card with the p1i Thanks for adding my experience/comments regarding the p1i

I got it as soon was available with O2 (was unlocked to all networks at that time) something back by the end of 2007 when i was in UK I did used for almost 2 years (that time) Now back in Greece 2017 my main phone need battery replacement, so till i order one, i got this one in use (preferred than a k800i i also own, because this one has wifi) The original browser does not work due to security, no either the online player PlayNow (asking to visit sony for newer model supporting PlayNow) however opera asked for update to version 8.x.x and bingo, internet works great for almost all websites & opera has newer better UI ... so i can use the wifi of it Battery 10 years later is in GREAT condition, i manage to get 4 days stand by & the first 2 days was using the phone almost all day to set it how i want for new provider,checking all menus, adding new sort cuts, deleting old texts, photos etc & in total 5 minutes of calls That POLYMER batteries seems are one of best out there, no way li-ion lasted so long with the same power Is a great phone, i really like it & feel lucky owner ... even when the other battery arrives, i am planning to use it some longer time It has good reception as well because its antenna is at the top of the phone, so is not covered by hand when i am on call It does not have much applications to install but i do not need them as i am basic phone user by now

You can go to google and search for ericsson p1i software to upgrade but you must plug you phone into a computer with a serial cable before do this.

My phone up until now, very reliable , never experience any serious error or malfunction. I often use this phone until its limit, use as modem for more than 24 hours, use to talk form hours with the charger plugged etc. The battery is still powerful and still more powerful than blackberry

I have used this phone for four years now and the features are still intact. The sound is still the same as I bought it. The picture quality is still perfect, and the phone has not lost its sensitivity. I however have top change the battery because it gets flat more often. I once had a software problem, where the phone had a booting problem. I took it to Sony Ericsson and the software was restored. It has shown me value for money.

You know what, this phone was revolutionary when it first came out. Iphone and others are repeating it's many features now, after 4-5 years. By the time it first came out (2007 if I am not mistaken) this phone made real change to smart phone world (touch screen, front facing camera,two led lights, 3G etc) I wish Sony would continue it's proper development to proper direction, if they would do that I am more than sure that Sony would be one of the leaders on the market now. Very sad that we don't have Sony P6 now!

I've been a P1i user during the last four years. The Sony Ericsson P1i was a great smartphone at it's time, but has nothing to say comparing to today's smartphones. The main minus of the smartphone is undoubtedly it's operating system. The Symbian UIQ OS is completely outdated and there is no furthur support and also no application developement for it. Another major minuses of the phone are as follow: 1- low-end hardware configuration comparing to recent smartphones (200 Mhz CPU clock speed and only 128 MB of RAM). 2- The hardware QWERTY keyboard is a nonfunctional one (I've never used it during this four years except for dialling). 3- No EDGE support. 4- No GPS. 5- Disappointing video recording quality. 6- Very low battery backup on 3G networks (mine runs only 5-6 hours in standby mode with data transfere turned on and only half of an hour of web browsing and less than 10 minutes of audio call). All in all, the Sony Ericsson P1 could be a suitable smartphone for those who do not need to install and use different applications, or do not use their phone on 3G networks. Otherwise, one should consider a replacement with a new Android smartphone.

One of the best phones I ever had and will still use it for texting, the battery is superb, the camera was great during its time, the only problem I had with P1i was the side buttons including the scroll and charging port it became unresponsive except the power and camera shutter, and the screen was very vulnerable to the slightest touch of water, resulting to no touchscreen and no backlight but still useable but its normal for a 1yr and a half old phone to have unresponsive side buttons and the water its my fault, now Im a proud owner of Sony X S

This is the best phone i ever owned. Lately, there has been a problem in its IC and it is unable to catch mobile network. My local repair shop in Mumbai suggested that if i get hold of any other discarded p1i where the IC is working well, they will replace it, else, not possible. Any suggestions... anybody?

I've used this phone for 3+ yrs and it's still good, although I rarely used the WIFI & internet [quite slow]. Battery is awesome... still holds 3-4 days [although sometimes self drained suddenly] BTW if I do master reset, will it delete my phonebook and all my data??

Absolutly awesome phone. Had it for atleast 3 years and didnt look after it at all, could throw it, drop it and it still worked fine. The touch screen cracked and touch capabilities stopped working but still found it easy to use without it as I was so used to it after all the years of use. Amazing phone, easy to use, anything you would ever want. I miss it a lot.

you can let cp repair shop reprogram your phone.... the os might be damaged or your symbian certificate might have been expired...

Go and check your FW, last FW released was R9K009 it should work fine. If not check your WIFI modem/router if you're using it with WLAN. You may also opt to install the latest CORE PLAYER, it plays FLV types which is the format youtube uses.

Dear mior6060, I like P1i, every time we change it with a new one (i have a Kasko insurance from my mobile network operator) when we want a new look. For move my customizations (phone number, mail account, songs , sms etc) we use backup with PCsuite and use SEUS to have the last firmware. Otherwise I can't restore my last backup from my old phone. But the SE have stop to support P1I and I can't restore my last configuration. Have you any suggest? Thank you and sorry for my poor english language.

Hi redX, your xperia is the latest . I dont see any reason to compare it wth P1i. However, if you feel like playing around wth P1i, pls go ahead n you will love it.I use opera mini 10 for fb/twitter. i hv installed walkman v 3.0 for my player and the sound is fantastic.also installed modded contact,messaging and calender icons, i change my status bar to window statusbar. installed tweak software to speed up the system,use iphone icons for main menu ( can also change all, but a bit risky)...

About the inability of up-grating the soft of your P1i... Not that i have already succeeded in that..but im on my way to. Go to the website..X-drivers.com ....you will find there a software wich can be downloaded and used for that purpose!

Hei, there is a Blog World of Sony Ericsson P1i where you will find lots of SW to mod your P1i. I just mod my P1i to Iphone Ikons,increase speed,Walkman3 player to name a few. You also can change Fonts , status bar( depeding on your FW ). good luck

Really good phone with a lot of capabilities.Been using for 3 years and never had a problem. Once you've "hacked" your phone its really fun playing around with it. Almost everything is customisable. The only downside is the camera. Takes awesome pictures but the video quality is pathetic. And to be honest this phone is now quite outdated. No more development for UIQ 3.0 resistive touchscreens are a thing of the past,processor and ram are very low. But having said that the price of this phone is well worth it.

the talk time indicated here above is completely false! I have had the P1i since 2008 October and the max battery charge is 1 hour of continous talk time even with a strong signal! The local dealer has been very helpful and flashed & updated the software thrice without any improvement, exchanged batteries but still the same! later while still under warantee, letter "J" stopped working and afew days later the screen blacked out. the keyboard is genius - comfortable, fast, and takes up little space - the only viable alternative to blackberry i know. it's 4yrs old so of course it's slower thant new models, but the basic hardware kit still rocks. and at its time it was probably the slimmest smartphone out there. shame UIQ faltered. shame that P1i got killed by touch-phones.

To save battery life. My screen brightness is like 23% Then i turned off my 3g. Because 3g eats my battery. If you wanna turn off the 3g. Go to Control Panel then Connections. Then Mobile Networks Then click More Then click GSM/3g Networks. Then click GSM Only.But it's your choice. I seldom use 3g. Cause i don't like my battery getting low.

I have had this phone for over 3 years now and it's simply amazing! One of Sony Ericsson's best I would say. Most people complain about the awkward keyboard, but once you get used to it (takes a couple of weeks), it's so easy to use. I have no intention of switching to a new phone because this phone still serves my needs. It's hardy as well.

Ryan, I'm sure if you'd refresh your firmware, all your issues would go away. For some weird reason, when you've had the same software for a long time- even if it is current, it may lose a small but crucial component, resulting in malfunctions. The P1i is quite a relic, so it gets no more firmware upgrades, but the firmware from remains "fresh", you should try it.

P1i is a great phone, haven't had any major problems with it ( except battery life 1 1/2 days max, battery contact and phone freezing). I've had this phone for 2 1/2 years now, it is really worn out, but still works fine.

The battery doesn't get a contact (the phone switches off when I'm in the middle of the call; this problem has started when it was 2 months old); the battery drains in 1 1/2 days with everything switched off and the phone sometimes freezes for no reason,... I like my P1i and I have it for 3 years already BUT the bottom touch screen is not working anymore. Tried e-mail customer support and the suggestion was wrong, called customer service and said since it is past its warranty, I have to send it to service for almost $200. This phone is not cheap. I searched in the internet if someone has same problem, YES.. same problem! The problem was not solved and Sony sent a new one to this customer.

My P1i and I got married Three years ago and the relation gets stronger every when new touch screens come on board. Coz the honest truth is nothing and i mean NOTHING comes close when it comes to P1i vs other touch phones. Hello all! I lost my dear P1i just a month back and I am very curious about one thing: I have made backup with the PC Suite's Backup Manager application of all my contacts and notes but what I am wondering, can I restore this backup to OLDER models of P series(P900 which I also still have) or some NEWER models, other series phones? Or can I just export my backup information and somehow browse those names and notes WITHOUT restoring them into a phone - just check them out with some sort of a program with PC or Mac? It's just that, I am on stage of buying a new phone just because I need those numbers and notes out from the backup. Thank you million times for the helping answers! -Nik

The best during it's time and the height of SE legendary P series. Right now, I've got 1 with 2 languages but selected "english" as default. However, word suggestions are comnig up either in english or chinese whenever I use the handwriting function. I tried the setting already and turned off suggested words but it still shows up. Qwerty texting is fine though, any suggestions on what to do?

after using this phone for 3yrs, all i can say was very reliable customizable phone, my p1 now was like a cybershot walkman, after a few modification, my p1 camera can now records in 30fps mp4 format, compared to the 15fps it can shoot photos comparable to k810i and k850i video recording, and i have walkman menu like w960, it is a very good upgradable sturdy phone, sweeet!

i think i see this phone and other sony ericsson phones in the movie "salt" the agents including angelina jolie uses W760, P1i, and W950 there's a shot when their placing their phones in a box before angelina jolie will interview the spy on the beginning of the film, there's also a couple of shots when agents using a P1i phones, hehe!!!

My g900 also have the same pro if total msg in inbox and outbox is more than 2000. i faced this kind of pro for many times. the software update cant change anything. for me, the solution is to delete all the msg. good luck

I bought P1i before 3 months from ebay. The seller said that it was new.I take the cell phone at my hands for 2 days when my phone switch of from battery i charge it and the next morning i switch it on and it load until half and it restarts and its make the all process again and again. I read in a forum that is maybe from application that you install. The application are install in phone memory because i don't have memory stick. The Sony Ericsson service doesn't support my software because its from another country and SEUC says that i have the latest firmware. Any solution it will be nice

what?! you don't know what to do?! you need to install a software called "UXDc@4 ver 5.0" or "GHV500SLSC ver. 2". It can be downloaded through the internet. I hope this helped you a lot. no need to thank me.

I think sony ericsson P1i is the best symbian operating phone from sony ericsson. It is more better then nokia's symbian operating phone. P1i's camera, battery back up, ear phone's sound, flash, key pad, screen quality in direct sun light, features, software everything is just excellent. I love sony ericsson's every mobile. No one can give the same quality that sony ericsson gives. So frnds don't think second time before buying sony ericsson.

I have been using P1i for the last 3 years. Thought of changing the phone. Looked for HTC and others and found out that apart from one or two specs all of the newer ones have the same specs as this baby. Plus my P1i never gave me trouble. Jog Dial got a little cranky but it got fixed automatically. So now I am happy with it. Great specs according to usability as I feel not everyone uses all the specs all the time. Great phone and I will keep it till it lasts.

The Phone is very good . I have been using it for the last two and half yrs. No prob. until recently the display had some problem. touch function stopped working. However after that Handed the phone to SONY repair center here in Mumbai. Problem with touch-pad was prob. identified. But touch pad not available with SE.Its been three Weeks Plus and they dont have stock of spares in Mumbai. Pathetic service. No reply or action from Superiors, have mailed to the various Regional heads explaining the problem in Service. Sony Phones are good but Service is extremely Bad. Although a die hard fan of Sony, will have to think before buying a Sony in future.

well indeed dis is one of the best phones ever ...i had a k 750i before..which was also a legendary phone in its class..then i got hold of a p1i , which is an outstanding piece of equipment.i hav'nt faced any problems since i bot it.U'll find a hell lot of 3rd part apps nd it also runs most of the java apps ...so its a all in one device...the only unconvincing part is the 3.2 mpx cam which i find is no better then the 2mpx cam of my previous k750i.(so i still miss it on that part) the only trouble i faced was dat my touch screen got a bit non responsive ,nd vus giving faulty clicks. . .but i jst found out than it could be calibrated ,nd nw it works like a dream . thnx 2 SE team 4 bringing in such a nice device . nd i havnt found any reason 2 change it ever since i bought it. i hav also installed the walkman player 3 which is a real cool player....and a has a userfriendly touch inteface... so pple ...i would say this is the best device of dis millinia . . . .

Hi.i used to have M600i brother of P1i but already sold it because the handwriting recognition laggy after 600 or 800 characters. i love UIQ platform and block handwriting recognition system and handwriting recognition is my only reason that i bought M600i and now i like to try P1i. 1>But did anyone test it how many words u can actually write without lag?? 2>Did the p1i have maximum limitation for the characters that can be wrote in the notes application like M600i?? 3>i want to use it as my personal notes so i dont have to bring books at my work.can it write a long note or document? and how long? i've tried omnia handwriting and found that its not as good as SE M600i so i really appreciate for the explanation bout how powerfull the P1i do in handwriting.thanks before.

its nice to have any, but p1i is most valuable in business and likely in proper usage, i ve use both, though i m still holding my p1i filmly, nice and great in night camara, dual led present and screen larger, qwenty keyboards for fast typing and screen touch for faster accessibility. battery very ok and clearer music quality wen hacked though not a walkman but it can be hacked with greater walkman player that is for w960i, better than w910i and its os is uiq3 symbian v9.1 far better than w910i that is just a java only plsssss dont waste time choosing, just take wat is functional and not wat is met for children.

I've had P1i for more than a year now..and still use and have it :) its a really great fone, except for the wifi and connection..lol go for BB there, but its very handy and useful..i don't have to turn on the comp. just to type sumthing..it has MSword and can view MSppt. I even have full chapters of books i love and read it there. The cam is fine and the price is ok. Games are a bit hard to find, cause it does not support everything. Its not sensitive like nokia and really lasts :)

ajerba yes p1i is smartphone uiq3 OS jacky If you want internet using your p1i go to your service provider or contact them to set up your internet connection but it's not free... if you want to use your wifi go to wifi area coffee shop or if you have internet in your home buy a router Marcus Aurelius DOn't do that sliding phone is prone in defect like the flex will die soon... stick to candy bar phone p1i is a great phone if you upgrade your phone make it iphone 4g, x10, vivaz, n8 etc... if not don't p1i will satisfy your needs except gps :-(

i have swapped my PI with to nokia 6120c..P1 has a very poor connection. it sucks! My wifi is not working although there is no wepkey. ..and gosh, keypads also sucks.. This phone is ideal for photos and music but not for internet and applications.

my p1i is turning 1 this May 1... i guess p1i is the best of its kind and very affordable compared with nokia.. i mean, all you need is just one click.. it had key pads.. touch screen.. 3.2 mp.. good music player.. wifi.. radio.. text messaging.. it even tells time! i sooo love p1! the thing is, it easily gets dusty and dirt easily sticks to it.. and it isnt scratch free.. my P1 looks 3y.o instead of 1.. but i still love it!

Hi, I have been using this phone for more than 2 years. Have found it stable than any other models. All functions work fine with nice audio quality. Additional downloadable applications are rather limited compared to Nokia but that matters very little in terms of phone usage. Battery life is quiet good. There is no issue with the jog dial. Use a screen guard and keep the phone clean. That�s it P1 will serve you for long. Same as mine. (I feel Sony Ericsson phones have much better built it terms of body and other parts than all other brands)

Pretty good phone,only flaw is the slow processor 208mhz.(a 500mhz processor would have been magic) Sometimes it hangs, not very often thou... Nice screen, touch and handwriting really nice. Keyboard is so cool once u get used to it. Good/fast at web browsing. Good camera. Decent battery life. Solid phone, cool looks. To P1, In the control panel there is an option to master reset the phone,>>Control panel>>Others>> Master reset, but you have to back-up your data, phonebook, your applications, etc... because it will all be erased. Good luck

look man, all you need to do to play the other games you've installed is to press the ALT key twice and that will allow you to play like on any regular phone. Opera mobile is a better browser than Opera Mini 5 too. it even has ability to show plugins. It is a bit slow, but that is all because of the inadequate hardware. I wouldn't say this device is the best phone, no way. it has potential but there is a lot of room for improvements. It cannot be compared to the devices currently on the market today. Sony Ericsson should probably send out a new firmware update to fix the bugs of this phone. ie, the music player takes too long to start playing the selected tracks, there is no user friendliness in the video player either, office has a lot of potential too but can hardly be used because there should be additional keys like some sort of directional keys to make the experience a better one. The fact that this was/is from back in 2007, is understandable though but we the users of this phone are hampered by its inadequacies. It is a phone from 2007 yes, but so si the N82 even though that isn't a touch phone. This is certainly one of the better handsets by Sony Ericsson still, but they still shouldn't leave us in the cold like that. We deserve an updated firmware for this phone, it does not have to be something UIQ, just something to speed up this handset. That is my 2-bits.

I've dropped it a number of times it still works like it did the moment I took it out of the box it came in. Hi guys, this the best smartphone by sony ericsson ever. I m using P1i since 2years n 3 month(from oct 2007), there is not an incident that i have to take this phone to service center. I have done lots of moding on this phone such as icon changes, font changes, erasing operator logo etc. Pic quality is also nice. Most of all i like qwerty keypad which help me for easy n fast replies to sms/mms/emails. really a nice smart n classy phone.

I still have my P1i and I don't think I'll change it anytime soon. Unless, of course, SE can come up with something better since I'm not big on full touch phones (I still want a QWERTY) and I'm not fond of sliders or clam shell designs and also I hate WinMO OS. Everything's still in working order after a year and a half of heavy usage with the occasional slow downs and the jog dial b*tch*ng now and then.

I have been using this model 4 almost 1 yr & decided 2 give a brief but clear comments about this PDA. Well, it has has powerful camera, good speakers(headphones supplied>HPM-62 is uncomparable 2 walkman headphones), good internet speed & coverage. These are all the plus points that I have found out. Now let's get into d drawbacks. 1stly, Symbian OS UIQ installed in this model is not user friendly at all & 2 basic compared 2 windows mobile/iphone OS. Secondly, although it has a very gud java support, but u won't be able 2 play any games/app well efficiently because of d QWERTY keyboard. I've tried many games & app but became disappointed so finally stickted 2 d Quadra Pop game preinstalled. Some might have d popular Pro Golf game if their lucky since Sony Ericsson installs games randomly. Overall, i would safely say dis model is targeted mainly 4 working people & nt for teens who wants 2 use for entertainment purpose solely. im using p1 for a year and 4.. i would say that ill still stick to this.. not the best phone (well u cant name it up to date) but it has features u can proud of it e.g. wifi, touchscreen, qwerty keys, office documents, and the durability.. i cant number how many times i dropped it but the worst of it is last xmas it got soaked in the aquarium. but after 2days, its working very fine - the camera, audios, screen. and its very easy to hack, thanks to the hackers! just sad coz its OS is already dead but we, the users, will keep UIQ ALIVE!!!

superb phone i ever had. still stayed with me because of its functionality and stability. i had sony ericsson p990i and p1i before. then i sold my p990i to upgrade to latest model from nokia, which is nokia 5800 xpressmusic, but i swapped it to nokia e63 because i cant type that fast on touchscreen. but still my p1i is with me. i think i wont be selling or swapping my sony p1i for a long time until a decent phone from any phone manufacturer would create a phone with a 5 or 8megapixels, large screen, and a qwerty keyboard. im willing to swap my nokia e63 to anyphone again but not my sony ericsson p1i. cheers!

hi! i got this ph since last 2 Christmas ago.. i LOVE this ph, never gave me any problems. just laggs once in a blue moon but i got the latest software, and never needed anything other than my E71.. i prefer browsing with my E71 but other than that, P1i's camera, functionality, and it's programs are to die for. i 'm a biker and the only time my ph doesn't work is when it rained so bad my biker group had to stop and it got wet on the screen. went to fix it and it's a marvel to know that THAT's the only problem it had. been loving this ph ever since. i could trade in my E71 for another ph but NEVER this one. Thank SE. p.s. my gf got p1's counterpart the W960, so both phs and us were like 2 pairs alike. hehehehehe. she loves her w960 as well.

i bought this phone 1 year ago and i am verry pleased with it.no problems at all and verry good battery life.the only think that misses is the flahs support for internet and a bigger and faster processor, its kind of luggy when reeding a big pdf or word document.it felt from my hands 2 times on the stears and its ok, only few sratches on the aluminium face.first i thaught that the back plastic cover will luse its color in time and will be ugly, but it didnt happened.it loks verry good and i am using it every day.i think at changing it with the xperia x10 when will be avaible, but i'll sure miss the qwerty keepad, wich i love cause i like texting a lot.

I'm selling mine Bassam, only hitch though is the there is no stylus, (lost em). Everything else is working just fine. That person who says the P1 is very slow, you must have had a defective one. Mine is almost as quick as my friend's Nokia N95 8gb, and it wasn't hacked or anything.

The sound volume of this unit isn't high enough. Some uses the sound MOD to tweak the volume. Here's my alternative.. You can buy an in-ear earphone to minimize the noise and get better quality (should buy an 3.5mm audio adaptor first). I prefer the iSecurefit in-ear earphone of A4tech (uses neodymium magnet - strongest magnet on earth). The bass is great even when using Normal equalizer. The quality is clear and loud enough.

well, I will not go and tell you that the Sony P1i is a perfect phone like some others here. What I will tell you though is that it is an ok phone. All those comments you hear about the keypad being a mind boggling experience, is just stupid. The keypad is just as easy to use as any other qwerty keypad on mobile phones. It is so simple, you see more than one icon on the buttons, which simply tells that all these buttons does more than one functions. For me, this keypad is very easy to use, even my 7 year old uses this keypad wonderfully (not as quick as me though, lol). So that should tell you something. Like someone else said before, the task manager should have at least had a bigger, more accessible icon or a dedicated button. The wifi could have been a bit better, though it is not much slower than that of the N95-8gb since I've compared them. This phone takes very good photos, afterall it is a 3 mp shooter and among the best out there. I have totally no problems with my phone being slow, there are a few hangs every now and then especially when downloading huge files via wifi (when the battery gets warm). Other than that, there are not much more to complain about. The touch interface you should remember is over three years old now and should not be compared to these new ones. Like all other phones, you CAN'T keep your phone in your pockets with your keys, coins or any other metals for that matter!! What is the matter with you? The screen WILL gets scratched if you do so, and if the screen dosen't get scratched, the phone's case will be scratched. If you are looking for a phone to watch flash web contents, this is not the phone to use, get one of the new ones. If you are not looking to fork out a lot of money and want a regular phone that can play mp4 vids, takes really good 3mp photos, reads and edits office documents, and can do lots more. then you could have the P1i. If you want more than that and not wanting to spend a lot just the same, also feeling comfortable with a small alpha numeric keypad, get the Nokia N82, really good phone. I am selling mine now too if anyone is interested. I now have too much phones;)

Besides its lazy reaction, connecting the phone to PC, either by BT or cable is a challenging issue in this model like other models of SE. I didn't use other brands yet and I really can not make a comparison with other brands. but I've heard alot about complaining of difficulties in connecting to PC by people.

yes, I know alittle (!) about that memory stuff. what I am saying is its standard applications like messaging, camera, phonebook etc, which are awfully slow. You have to wait few seconds for all of these applications and it's disgusting! All those shortcuts is for compensating phone's slow reaction does not change anything. Try to search a name in your phone book, read or answer a message, take a picture in this phone and compare it with other models, even with SE itself and you'll figure out what I'm saying. As I said before "I am a SE fan", but I really hate to be fanatic in judgement

I like the keyboard, unique, and smart 2. I like menu interface, shortcut, and costumable 3. Great file explorer, and even u can open ZIP and RAR file using free third party application. 4. Great browser, if u upgrade your opera mobile 5. You can have more than single email account, great msging.. Cons: 1. small task manager icon (i think we need dedicated button) 2. yes i think it has lock code coz im using p990i and you just have to go to tools, control panel, security, locks, and you have to click the box beside inactivity lock and you will be ask for your password. i hope that would help you. and also, you can download advanced file lock wherein you can lock a specific application or content that you don't want to access by anyone, for example you can lock the messaging or picture gallery etc. once you click the application that you locked using advanced file lock you will be ask for a password. you can download it for 30 day - free trial or you can purchase it online. :)

It is really sad to hear that you feel this way about the P1i. I am a SE p1i user, I would like to tell you that I see differently to what you ve been going on about. Firstly this Phone has 208mhz processor it will be slow if you overload the internal memory, store all your applications and data on your external memory (m2 card) and your phone will run like the wind. Secondly you are complaining about it taking too long getting to the applications you use, tell me what those home screen Icons there for? They are customisable for you to switch any Icon u dont use for the one u use frequently allowing you quick access to your applications... I believe it is better to ask before judging. SE P1i is the king...

Does this phone have code lock like Nokia? Code lock is different from "Keypad lock" , you need to enter the right number coding before you can access the main features of the phone.. It is an added security feature from Nokia. So does this phone have "code lock?"

As a classic fan of SE, using this brand for 4 yrs, I should say P1 is a disaster! Its awfully SLOW. All the credits that SE gained buy its easy and qiuck menus is lost in this model. It's amazing how SE was able to ruin pleasant taste of a phone like K750 this bad! In K750 you could reach to all corners of the phone by 2 or 3 clicks, all incoming BT messages was automatically saved in proper folder ... I really couldn't figure out why SE designers have decided to use Nokia's stupid way of organizing BT messages and phone menues !! On the other hand, I sholud say it is very good looking and it's keyboard design is nice. BUT...!!!

I've had the P1i since it was released in the market 2 yrs ago and I must say this is a very good phone in terms of efficiency (word, excel, pdf)storage capacity, camera and sounds quality. Downsides are: difficult for texting, phone hangs up once in a while, esp when travelling to other location, difficulty in sending picture thru mms, slow response for the user interface. U also need to take very good care of the touch screen since it scratches easily

I love my P1 (apart from when it crashes) Shame the apps are getting a little limited now, and the media player could do with some polishing. Also, never managed to get the online media player working and I still can't play Youtube. Despite it's media downfall it's a fantastically proficient phone / organiser / internet communicator.

This phone is made from metal as far as I can tell. I've taken the silver part of the front off (which is just glued on to the phone) and it is metal. The only plastic part of the phone is maybe the sides, but you have nothing to worry about with quality issue. I've had this phone for a year and I highly recommend it. P.S, I recommend it that you dont take the front off like I did (I had to super glue it back on).

i bought this phone for almost a year. i have no problems with it. i can do multi-tasking without any hassles. pictures and video quality is good; pleasant to the eyes. sound quality (esp incoming and outgoing calls) is clear. touch screen is user friendly, i say. unlike other touch screen phones, it is not sensitive (as what others have said) and you have to figure it out how to make it respond properly and effectively. screen is large enough. this phone's not bulky and it is handy. overall, this is a good phone for me. wifi and 3g in one phone is all i need. best phone i had. worth the budget. SE provides better phone. it would be much better if they provide screen guard for their touch screen phones. hihih!

I owned a SE p990, which is very useful but the P1i is Perfect ! It's very fast, the UIQ3 is a lot better than Windows Mobile (in my Asus p527). The phone is slim and very comfortable in the hand. The touchscreen is fantastic, better than in the p990 (however in the p990 it's very good), very sensitive.

the best phone I ever had was SE M600i, and that was nearly 3 years ago since I got it, and it still works. I am now going to upgrade to the P1i, even though the X1 is supposed to be better. I just love this rocker key querty keypad, you can get excellent typing speed, and all operation can be done on 1 hand. There is no other phone that can do what this phone can do. Especially as the OS is Symbian, and doesnt crash... as much. Also the only phone which allows me to use it like a Blackberry with the Connect software. Im trying to locate one now to buy, even though it would be second hand.... thats how good it is.

I had the same problem, what I did to fix it is: I went to SE website and then I clicked on troubleshooting. I chose the kind of problem I had, which was mms. They ask me which network operator I am using and my phone number. After that I switched off my phone and back and mms where going in and out since then. I hope this will help you...

hello.. im brian from the philippines.. i bought my P1i last May 1,2009.. I'm happy with my fone coz its an all in one package and i guess it's the cheapest of its kinds.. i love its qwerty keyboard, its touch screen, music player, its fast wifi connection.. and it comes with a cool,pretty and stylish stylus... you just have to make some adjustments to it and download cool applications... download icon packs to make it look into an i-phone.. download pretty themes and screen savers and there you have it.. plus - Opera Mini works perfectly with P1i.. the only disadvantage of P1i is that its casing easily gets damaged.. the silver color easily fades off (and my fone is still 4months old) and dust easily stick to it(but its not much of a prob). too all P1i owners remeber that the default LOCK is 0000. and if u want to RESET the INTERNAL MEMORY just do: Scroll Jog Dial Up then asterisk Scroll Jog Dial Down twice then asterisk Scroll Jog Dial Down asterisk.. check it out and test ur fone.. its a common problem bro. you just switch off your mobile by removing the battery then ON it. then unlock the keypad lock for a while and then it works fine.

The only one word I have to say is this phone is awesome. Its QWERTY key board and a Touch screen interface is a plus point as very few phones have a combi of touch and keyboard. I have been using it for past 2 years and its one of the best phones i have had in last 8 years :) The battery backup is quite good 1-2 days on a single charge. OS is quite stable in performance as compared to Nokia's OS which tends to get slow with apps. Hope SE releases a new P1 with some changes to screen resolution and size .. Kudos SE !!

Got one for ~2 years. Very nice hardware: super camera, keyboard, sound quality and size. The software is unacceptable: super badly designed and far too slow. This makes some features useless. Sometimes crashes. Wifi download is slow too. It almost had no software upgrade, nor real new applications. The software update and sync are only for PC. I used a hack for Mac but not always working fine: Sony Ericsson does not care about it. I'm now avoiding Sony Ericsson for the moment. This is a potentially very good phone but I have the feeling it's been abandoned right after its release in the market.

I love SE phones too, the P1 is my lattest, regarding Master reset, its not necessary that your user preset is deleted when you click in the master reset. Thers a ption to clik on for the user data will not be appected by the reset, Ive ties it a lot of times.. I find it do its smart though it seems hangin sometimes with my 2gb M2. But so far its good!

BRENT, If you're planning to buy this one.. I suggest you go for C901 greenhart.. It's not a wifi, touchscreen phone but it has Xenon flash which enables you to take great picture specially during night.

You can watch divx videos using divx for mobile player.. You just have to set recode the video using "total video converter" and set the video to a lower setting using the video resolution that's right for your P1i.. about 320x240. The video quality looks good, audio is great!.

I'm a P1i user for almost 2 years now and I haven't experienced problems with this phone. I suggest you to get this phone because it's got lot of features and the camera is awesome. You can install a lot of applications in this phone.

Upgraded the PC Suite software that communicates with the phone from PC from ver. 1.5.8 to ver. 1.5.26 - now PC Suite won't run. Keeps telling me it can't load the configuration. Infuriating!! Have tried everything to solve it, but no success. Anyone have any ideas?? Tx.

Hi I am using the P1i for one year . I had to reload the soft were as it was hanging after three months of use. Now My phone doesn't respond to the touch screen on all commands placed on the left lower corner of the screen after purchasing a new 1 gb sony memory stick and inserting it in its place I pressed factory setting . I am frustrated please help

I do understand what mester reset means and i use to do it, the issue on my p1i is that after doing the master reset and erase all data an appl(gmail, opera, games,etc...), now it doens allow to install any applications. It doesnt run: Picture editor, uninstall, install, storage wizard, certificate manager, java certificate and master reset. can please someone help me. Muzzo Maputo, Mozambique

doing a reset pretty much erases all data that installed in the unit, what part of a reset didn't you understand? plus the phone will ask that if you do master reset it'll delete all the data.

Hi, been using the P1i for over 2 years now. its a great phone, beats a whole bunch of smartphones that come later. I love the phone but i think i'm going to have to let it go since for the 2nd time in 1 year the touch screen has gradually stopped responding. Now it has zero response. The first time this happend the SE service station charged me 6.5k to change the touch screen. Now its gone again. Cant caliberate the screen in setup wizard, factory setting defaults dont work, the screen test *up*down...etc, does not do anything. Anyone had and solved similar problem. Any advice? I really hate to let this phone go. TIA

hey HaMMer4111 for changing the language of ur fone u have to hack it so that u can operate private folder. for that just install caapswitch.exe in ur fone for games and software go to dotsis.com imserba.com

ok...i'm a sony ericsson fan, allways was and allways will...I'm using two phones allways and one of them must be a SE. I think this P1i gets the best close-up to perfection. I had many w series, k series, z series...nothing compares to a SE P- phone...and overall, i consider the p1i the most relyable phone I ever had (along with the legendary k750), with it's features being the best in his range. compared to k800 an k810 > better in picture quality excepting very dark enviroments, much better in music. compared with LG Viewty > much better in picture quality even in dark, much better music, wi-fi and all other apps a +, video quality a big - . compared to it's predecessor, the p990 > better in every way you might consider...compared to all w series (I now own also a w900) > better in everything but music, but here is a trick: the SOUND MOD LIGHT makes it 90% a walkman, the other 10% goes to walkman player anyway...all phones that i compared with i owned them, so is a realistic comparison. I'll only trade this phone for the W960...other phones don't deserve...my opinion: buy it if you want a very smart phone, the best 3.2 MP camera and and mostly: a relyable phone! it realy has every feature you may ever need...buy it while you can...i'll rate it 9.5/10

Guys, This is just to inform you that I have finally gotten a phone that out performs the P1. I took delivery of the Nokia N97 and was very impressed with its functionality and user friendly interface. I am a Sonyericsson diehard but after returning my Xperia after a couple of days of use I went back and bought another P1. I was going to wait for the Idou but I am quite pleased with the N97. See me at the N97 forum until the Idou comes out.

A very wise ifo wot i feel..P1 is a very gud phone.no doubt bout it..but its v outdated nw..i dnt think anyone shud be spending money on dis phone..in india it costs bout 17k. dat too v rarely coz its off the market..at that price why wont u get 5800 or any other latest phone..moreover..they jog dail is shwing problem in many handsets..so am nt really dat happy usign thsi phone in such a situation where i have so many gud n more advanced options at a cheaper price..this is wot i feel..
