I agree that this phone is durable (mine is still working!) has relatively small sar (this is very important to me, it's a matter of health and all companies should pay seriousmatter on this subject), VERY good camera lens (best pics for 1,3 mp) nice interface, buttons, fetisch way of opening up the numberboard, what can I say? Only misadvantage that the metal receptor for the battery charger got easily rusted and it's hard to recharge it now... Sony Ericsson, we want this back!!! With better charger receptor, and more mpixels with the same lens!!

The best phone I have had to date! I have had my s710 since june of 2005 and over 3 years later this phone still works good as new and no problems!! Even the battery life is still running strong, I get over 12 hours of batt time on a full charge. Great phone still after all these years.

I'm partial to SE phones and I'm looking to get a new one. But there's slim pickin's out there right now it seems. I love the side locking key, the swivel design and especially the ability to use this phone as a flashlight! I use that, the timer/stopwatch, the converter java app that came loaded on it all the time. It's just a solid phone. The cons would be laggy menu's, memstick duo (no pro duo) and it would be nice if it was just a little slimmer. But the pro's far outweigh the cons.

I've had this phone for about three years and i rarely use the internet:mainly used for utility reasons and here are the specs Pros: Very loud ring tone (compared to other phones), has speaker, but kind of annoying because it only has the speaker option once it has connected the call, has a timer (which i use ALL the time), has a light for the phone in the back that's really bright, and really nice themes Cons: the major con i have to say is the lag. It lags really bad and it's really annoying because i go to games or pictures and when it doesn't register fast enough it makes me go online and then i have to pay extra(HATE phones that have that web button that can be hit accidentally and be charged, and also the charger, very unique charger so if lost or broken going to have to buy a new one (compared to sprint universal chargers) and it's strange sometimes the charger doesn't register and i have to wiggle it around to finally charge, but overall i would also give this phone a 8.75/10. SE needs to make more of these w/o the lag!

Purchased S700. Have to say: amazing picture phone for a 1.3mp. BEST KEYPAD EVER PRODUCED... feedback is exceptional, keys are VERY easily recognizable, and dug-in which gives for a solid unbeatable feel. Screen res./size is amazing. I've had it for 3years now and I still use it only now it is my secondary phone after a Nokia 5610 and SE P1.

Btw...one thing I forgot to mentioned which I don't think any other phone allows you to do is send a text msg with a voice memo. Example, I usually send a HAPPY BDAY greeting as part of my text msg but its me saying it to them instead of typing it. Get it? This way its more personal....

Amanda...yes it has a speakerfone And yes, this phone does work in Canada on the Rogers/Fido networks. I bought this phone back in May 2005 and have not really had any complaints about it. I really love all the features it offers. Many of my friends/co-workers even to this day ask me if I would sell it to them..haha I once remember being at the Autoshow in 2006 and a young couple kept following me around from car to car (as I was snapping pics and talking on the phone). They female finally asked me if it was a camera or phone or both...I let them take a look at it and they offered me more money then I paid it. Btw..I bought my S710 outright without a contract for around $750. I smile and said thanks but no thanks. They did give me their number and asked me to give them a call if I ever decide to sell it.

Ive had the S710a (Cingular/AT&T Variant) for over 2 years now instead of buying a RAZR; this phone has been everything i wanted and then some; It's 1.3 MP camera and video mode have let me capture countless priceless moments of family, friends, and the quirks and oddities of things ive seen. I have been looking around for a suitable replacement that carries over all the phones' qualities and strengths, just an updated version of it really, and still havent found one. This post is more an ode to my S710a; i've had various brands and models of very nice cell phones since 2000 back in high school (anyone remember the Nokia 5165?) but this has been the only one i was satisfied with all around since ive owned it. I STILL get questions about it or comments about it from strangers. The only negatives i have to say about it are the lack of support for pro duo cards exceeding 128MB in size and the proprietary headphone jack (i spliced my own headphones into the included headphone sets' jack so i could have my favorite set of headphones double as my hands-free) but aside from that, i will honestly be sorry to let it go or sell it; I only used the memory cards for ringtone songs and picture storage; my iPod is for music and D-SLR's are for serious photography, but it was more than worth what i paid for it. Kudos, S/E, for a fantastic phone and one very happy customer. Im looking into a S/E K850, W960 or W910 as a replacement, yet none of them does everything the S710a does (ahem, video?) so i may just stick with it for another year or two. I am not in the least interested in the iPhone for its lack of video capturing, relatively poor image quality, and lack of memory card slot, it also is incompatible with my cars' head unit iPod jack (Pioneer AVIC D3 Navi/DVD) whereas my S710a i can use hands free through my car.

This phone is amazing. There is really no important feature that I found on another phone that I can't do on the S710. Only problem I found was the memory (can only be upgraded to 128MB Memory Stick Duo). But other than that it is amazing.

i owned this phone for about two years and i cant stop thinking about it, i currently have it posted up in my living room at home i have owned about nine different cell phones and 6 of them were ericssons i usually only switch phones because i like to stay upgraded, when i thought i was upgrading from the s 710 i very quickly realized nothing else was out that could go head to head with this beautiful phone, since then i have been searching for ways to find this phone again but i keep hearing they dont make it or accessories for it any more.I cant even find a battery for my old one, point blank this is the best phone i have ever encountered and i think it should be brought back by popular demand.

Sony Ericsson is probably the best in designing phones. The S710 showed how far along Sony actually is in technology on a phone being one of the first to have an mp3 player. If you weren't extremely happy about this phone, I can guarantee you will like one of the next six phones they will be releasing. One phone will actually have a 3.2 megapixel camera which for the states is another breakthrough. It will also feature the Walkman which will play radio through the headset that acts like an antenna and of course it will feature the mp3 player. In addition it will also be an extremely slim phone which actually can compare with an Ipod nano. So for those who don't like big phones, you will be able to enjoy Ericsson's new fit. If you want a phone that you will be happy with for a long time, Sony is the way to go. Once you get used to the menu layout and everything it can actually do, you won't ever want anything but another Sony Ericsson.

I've had this phone since May of 2005 until recently I accidently soaked it in water. Overall I think it's a neat phone. But some cons about this phone is that sometimes it laggs when you're trying to get from one menu screen to another. Also there's really no flash on this cell but a really bright light that comes on when you want "flash". The battery power sucks thats for sure. The quality sound is GREAT though. Cell is more on the bulky side.

I just bought a 128MB mem stick and I've been having tons of problems with it. I get memory stick error when I insert it. I then tried to format it using windows XP and now my 128MB card has turning into a 32MB mem stick. what the heck? I can't seem to format it back to 128! I even downloaded the Sony Memory stick Formatter, and that is also showing a 32MB card now. Anybody know what I can do?

I just found out how to get the memory stick duo working properly! I've spent many hours looking thru the net and I thought I would finally give up and think its a bad card, but I've found out if you have a msh-m128 ms duo and a msac-usm1 adaptor, just download the formatter and format the disk! I just want to share this because I had such a hard time trying to get it working, and it was sooo frustrating. Hope this helps because Im VERY HAPPY right now. :)

I just bought a used s710a upgrading from my z500a. It was after a lot of research and finding the best phone for my budget. Idealy I wanted to get the w810 but this phone is awsome. Pros: Camera is really good. MP3's...this is big for me because my old phone couldn't take mp3's and I always had to buy ringtones. Looks cool and technological to the average person. Shutter to protect camera. Cons: Screen Scratches, no big deal, I went to Radio Shack and bought LCD protecting plastic and stuck it on there. 128mb max so what not a big deal. My only problem with this phone is the volume of the speaker during a call when the phone isn't on speaker phone. Compared to my z500a it's not as loud when I have it on max. But it doesn't really effect me. Thats it really. I really like this phone and I bought it from eBay with a lot of extras so I was all ready to go.

I actually put pictures in the image folder, music in the mp3 folder, I've followed the folder structure, but maybe theres a tiny mistake somewhere. Is it possible for you to tell me the whole folder structure, I think under MSSEMC P-series, I dont have the correct folders listed, but Im not sure if that even matters. Theres a point I got to the phone and try moving camera pictures to EXT MEMORY, but error message pops up saying Memory Write-Protected, I've searched online about this problem, theres suppose to be a switch, but I've looked all over and there isnt a switch at all anywhere on this MagicGate 128mb Memory Stick Duo. If anyone else knows the answer to why, it will be greatly appreciated.

That's cos you are saving the songs in the root folder... There are 4 folders, you must open the MSSEMC folder, then Media folder, and then are shown the folder like in the mobile (themes, audio, etc) Is the same like the bluetooth or USB cable interface.

I've had the s710a since jun/05. It's great for playing music, (8 hrs one day), and the camera is wonderful. I'm not so happy with the bluetooth. Although, I did switch to it from the Motorola 710 (Verizon). Also, the operating system seems a bit slow. I'm also having a hard time finding the 128M mem stick for it. I'm thinking about changing to the W810i when it gets to cingular.

1.) MS Duo PRO does NOT work, unless there is a 1gb ms duo that i don't know of hence no, no 1gb ms supported 2.) EASILY scratched, & I mean EASILY~ 3.) Signal is fine, but yet OTHERS can't hear YOU occasionally 4.) Battery only 780mAh, hence frequent charges 5.) Camera is great, one of the best 1.3mp i've seen on any phone. 6.) Interface is reasonably fast, not too slow like some older/other sonys 7.) It's big, feels firm & solid, good & bad, depending on person. That's about it, price of this phone is dropping dramatically. Get it?! It's up to you. Really depends on person =)

ive had this phone since november and it is so awesome. yall have read about how great the pictures are, so i would elaborate. however, they did stop making this phone so be prepared to have complications if you break it. i have cingular, and i recently lost my s710. they cant replace it because they dont carry it. it was replaced with the w600 which is really ugly and orange. however, the w600 has awesome music features. it can play music outload like a stero.

I download all the software and driver from sony ericsson.com including the file manager but, its still doesn't work all its found new hardware usb cable and its says install this hardware and says you have to have software and i downloaded already but it didn't work.. The S710a works great, but I can't get my computer to recognize the phone. I purchased a DCU-11 Data cable for the phone. I downloaded and installed the drivers for it from the SE website. Also, I downloaded & installed 'file manager'. but it still won't connect, it gives me some error msg, like I need the right software/drivers for the phone. What is this and where do I find it? I connected the cable to my old phone (SE Z600) and it worked just fine. How do I get it to work for my S710a? Help!!!!

I have this phone and is great... this is not a smartphone but the end of this phone is not that. In reference of memory, yes, you are right, not accept MSPro, but for the mp3 storage, u can edit the files (low the bit of the songs), u lost something of quality, but in a portable device don't do matter, and you can store most of 70 mp3 files... a song of 128Kb sound same that one of 80Kb.

Great Phone crappy Memory :( Went with the w600 with a 2 gig memory stick pro duo and i use it as my mp3 player to my system in my car :)I still use the 710 for everyday calls and regular phone use..

This phone simply amazes me. The size is perfect for me and so easy to hold. The RAZR hurt my hand after awhile. As a phone it is loud and clear. The signal is strong. The speakerphone is great and people cannot even tell when I'm using it. As far as style goes, it's impressive. Everyone who has seen it either says "WOW! What a great phone!" or "That's too much for me, all I need is a phone to make calls with." I have a feeling they don't want to admit the inferiority of their own phone. :) The controls are great, and you really don't have to open the phone unless you need the numbers or letters, for example sending an sms. You can do most everything else with the navigation pad and soft keys. I have read other reviews before I got the phone that complained of the keys being slick and flush with the body. They really aren't that slick and I like the fact they are flush. You can also program the navigation pad with shortcuts. This is really nice and saves many button presses to get to specific features you use a lot. Nice job Sony Ericsson! Okay for the camera. The pics are near photo quality, but still a bit grainy. I afraid you can't throw away your separate digital camera yet. I suspect that within a couple of years or so camera phones will be true photo quality. I wish that it had a faster capture rate to reduce blurring, if you don't hold it completely still you're gonna have to snap another. And finally, it would be nicer if there was a real flash and not just a light, it works, but you have to turn it on and off. Minor hassle The video recorder is okay, but the sound is not very loud unless you are right up to the mic. But hey, what do you expect from a phone. Now for the MP3 player. Sounds decent, actually pretty loud for a phone. Headphones sound great. I do wish there were tracking capabilities, with only pause and play, you have to start at the beginning every time. It's still a phone. Overall this phone has made me a true SE fan.

hey guys, ive had this phone for 5 months, and they have been the best with the s710a. this phone is awesome. best phone ive owned. and first digital camera. the pictures it takes have such great quality. not so much at night time though. but anyways, before i got this phone i had been looking for it for so much, i couldn't find it anywhere. cingular didn't provide it anymore. but then this new cell phone company was build in my city. they had all the companies. i went down and i found it. the s710. i was so happy. i didn't waist any time. i bought it. i was going to tell u guys who couldnt find the phone to come down to this store to buy it but they just recently became only sprint and nextell. sorry. but my point is to who ever cant find try goins to self, indipendent owened stores, maybe you'll find it there. if not e-bay, they have tons of those phones. i really recoment it. the phone has this bluetooth thing that lets ur phone and other phones connect wirelessly and look at eachothers pictures, music, ringtones, videos, and actually get them onto ur phone. my friends an i are always sending eachother ringtones, and its free. awesome. i mean you could even make ur own ringtone. any mp3 song u upload to ur phone u could make a ring tone. it is really a great phone, digital camera, digital photo album, mp3 player with so much other great things. worth every penny.

Can anyone help me??? my girlfriend has S710i we had try to upload some games and applicattions (jar, all of them) but when the file is in the phone can�t install it the unique option that appears is "send", why i can�t install�em??, i�ve been thinking about s7001 and i have this idea, S710i is a cheaper phone (with all things than means this) that�s why softawre is not so good as i wish... i own K750i and is just GREAT!!!!! so i can say that s710 has some problems, sometimes is slow, themes aren�t recognized as they should, one detail that a ihad seen is block phone password (this is the one that the phone requires to star when a new sim is inserted) is always required even if is configured on automatic (this means that is only asked for it when the sim has been changed and not evry time is switched on) no other sony ericsson do that!!!!! can anybody help me telling me if i�m wrong with my general idea about phone, thanks a lot.

yea, i had this phone for about 3 months and this phone is great....besides the fact that i can't hear very well once i put the phone next to my ear to talk! and the speakerphone function is too low. my previous $30 nokia has a better speakerphone than this. also, i hate the fact that you would have to wait for the other line to pick up your call before you could choose the speakerphone function. other than that, it's great.

To anyone who questions, this phone can't take 1GB (gigabytes) memory sticks. The highest it can take is 128MB (megabytes). I know this as I took several Memory stick pro duos that I had laying around and each one said that there was a memory stick error or could not read the songs (all songs are in correct type). Please stop asking what the largest size is. Please and thankyou

Actually you can't use any memory stick pro duo, and since the biggest standard memory stick duo was anly 128 mb, you can't get bigger memory for this phone, but it's compensated with all the functions. The phone is a little fat but works great for me, great reception and great web browsing, you can have acces to almost any site with it.

Hey everyone!! I have had my Sony Ericsson S710a for about 8 months now!! that is the longest i have EVER had a phone!! All the features work AMAZINGLY!! I have been looking at new phones because my contract is up and has been up for a while!! but i just cant find a phone that i really truly like as much as mine!! The display is AMAZING!! i have had the New sony ericsson W600i and i gave it to my sister because i couldnt get over how small the screen was compared to mine!! i have also tryed the Motorola Razor and the only reason i liked that phone was because it was so thin! but it was hard to open and it was SLOW... So i think im going to stick with my S710a!! and if u are looking for a new phone i suggest getting this one!! I've had this phone for about 2 months, its amazing. you can upload your own ringtones and walpapers, I save so much money from that now. The camera is unbelievably great with flash, as long as you dont move when you take the picture. The video isnt really that good and its not the whole screen, but its ok the pictures make up for them. great screen display and color. awesome speaker. if you are undeciseive just go with this phone you will love it. also if you are looking at the price just think its a phone, a good digital camera, an an pm3 player, its well worth it.

i just got my s710 2 days ago. i spent about 2 hours with t-mobile adavanced tech support trying to configure the wap settings properly but it didn't work. then i realized that you have to go into menu, messaging, shop multimedia, more, to connect to the browser. this must be why no one can get their s710 to work with t-mobile. now i have opera mini fully functional. its great. but i still can't get aim to work. everything else is fine. and the phone is awesome looking. i get attention everywhere i go.

Actually, you can set Mp3 songs as ringtones. Go to settings and select the Mp3 song that you want in your music folder..

you can make your ringtone an mp3-- I do it all the time.. you put your memory chip into the gray plastic thing (make sure you loaded the software) find the song you youve downloaded from limewire or whatever you use-- right click and copy it-- the go to my computerI bought ripeditburn (online for $25- and you open the g drive-- i think it's the g drive-- then select audio and click paste-- the red light will flash on the thing you put your memory stick in..then put your memory stick back into your phone then go to ringtones-- and thus-- your MP3-

No MP3 as ringtone? It's a joke, right? I do not believe that people can be so fool. You're going straight into File Menager, then finding your particular MP3 file, then right-button click and select 'Use' function. Easy as pie.

It isnt possible to set an Mp3 as a ringtone altho there is an option to but is never an active option. I hate the swivel action of this phone- its so annoying when u wanna dial or do quick text message, and for that reason hav upgraded to moto. It is quite a bulky phone but is at the same time lovely looking and very reliable.

Dont bother with the 512mb memory card that this fone work with. remember 512mb can make this fone laggy and u would end up found out the 128mb memory card better. This fone doesn't even have a built in 100+mhz processor so thats probably why memory stick duo and not pro feature is given to this fone. I believed that fones like k750i/w800i have higher processor and hence sony gave those fone a feature of supporting memory cards up to 2 gb..

I didn't like the phone at all.. Cons: 1. Low battery life. 2. Memory stick limitations. You have to use only Memory Stick Pro (not pro duo). 3. It won�t support more than 128MB memory stick. 4. No option to switch on the Speaker while you making a call. After other person picks up the phone then only you can activate the speaker.

Hi Bubba, People with older phones can't turn off the shutter sounds. (can they update the firmware?...I don't know...) If you have a newer one just look under camera settings for shutter sounds and turn it off.

you can change a wav file in to an mp3 files but for that you need a particular software which is named as a CONVERTOR. which you have to install it in your computer.There is an option so that you can change wav in to mp3 and mp3 in to wav.

Only reason you might have problems with your memory is that it isn't properly formated. When I looked at the 32MB duo MagicGate memory that came with the phone, it had nearly the identicle files, folders, and a ID file (MEMSTICK.IND). So, see if both memory of the memory are formated the same. I copied some MIDI's and MP3's into the 128MB MG Duo and the phone reconized it without me telling it it was there (I put them in the default file folders that was already in the Memory). Hope this helps.

Hi all. I just got my phone yesterday and it is S710a (for AT&T), and not Cingular (same thing really, just different SIM card). Now, for the MagicGate, it does work with Duo with MagicGate. It just doesn't support it. As a matter of fact, the 32MB card that came with the phone has MagicGate printed on it. I just bought 4 128MB Duo that had MagicGate printed on it and it works fine. I also bought a nice Aluminum Carrying case (made in Japan too by Sony) to hold all those extra Memory. So, hope this helps everyone out. I may try and see if it can take the Pro Duo (just out of curiosty since it did take the MagicGate, which it said it would not).

This phone pretty much has everything you need. The MP3s sound great with the head phones (mediocre on the speakers). The camera is awesome as is the screen. I haven't had any problems with the menus.The only drawback is the memory available. The onboard memory (32MB) can fill up really fast with pics and MP3s (especially if you want to use them for your contacts picture and ringtones). Their is an expansion card but it only supports Memory Stick Duo of which the greatest capacity is 128 MB. There is no way to get around this and no plan to do so in the future (according to Sony). However, with the appropriate tools, an 128 MB card can hold up to 40 full length songs. I just carry a couple cards in my case loaded with different songs. Inconvenient yes, but workable still.

to blah, yes it does have a slow response when opening menu's and such. the phone is too big and delicate to be carried around loosely in a backpack or purse. i have one currently and already have it listed on craigslist. i bought the sony ericsson case with it and it's just a pain in the butt to keep it nice. it gets stuck on menu's and the keypad can be difficult if you have longer nails (specifically the 1,2,3 is hard to get to). if you're a text messager- this isn't your phone. it can't keep up with fast text messagers. i'm lightening fast when it comes to text messaging and i rarely make mistakes. this phone kept saying "unknown word" when really it didn't catch the 'a' i had typed 4 letters ago. however, the clarity of the phone is sweet. it's easy to use, as all sony ericsson phones are. the bigger screen is nice. however, if i had this phone for 2 years i know the swivel keypad would probably break down.

when memory sticks were first made they were called duo and they had 256 and 512 that were memory duo not pro duo. It would be really hard to find one since all the new 256 and up are made pro duo. i hope this answers all of your memory stick problems

Brad, the adaptor that comes with the S710 isn't a PRO duo adaptor. Mine says "Memory Stick Duo Adaptor" not PRO duo adaptor. Check yours again. Even if it did say PRO duo adaptor, it doesn't work with duo slots, it only works with PRO duo slots. At least that's what I've read about it.

I dont know about the US or other country's, but I just bought mine about 2 weeks ago, and it came with a 32MB duo card and also a duo pro adaptor, which plugs into the slot, and then you can put duo pro cards in.

i got this phone 2 days ago and i got pc card reader to upload files into it. i didnt have trouble getting mp3 files into it but im having trouble getting video files onto it. everytime i put video files into it, my phone doesnt accept it as a video file.. like it wont play it. i tried changing the files to .3gp .mpeg and they still didnt work. can someone plz tell me how to upload video files onto my phone that actually WORK?

yes, it only uses the duo (not pro) memory stick. and no, the display doesn't scratch easily. the only thing i ran into was that games can only be installed via ir or bluetooth.

The max memory card you can use is the biggest Memory Stick Duo card, that is a DUO (not PRO Duo, just Duo). I have seen some 256mb cards and I heard from someone that have 512mb Memory Stick Duo cards.

In response to the guy that said it's annoying to have extensions (or any other number entered while in a call) remain on the screen after the call so that you have to hit the 'back' button to get to the main screen: that's a small price to pay for being able to jot down numbers (and later save them if you like) during a call. Another thing that I've found to be very convenient with this phone is the ability to get back to the main menu and navigate around while in a call. I know with other phones we've all been in a call and had to end it so we could look up a number in the phonebook and then call the person back. It's little features like that, that you don't really notice right away, that I love about this phone. Here is a really great site with tons of free stuff to download: I got about a dozen themes there.

Sony Ericsson S710 is a very nice phone. The people that says you can only take 10 second Videos are wrong. You have to go to setting and set it to Normal instead of Messaging. I had my 710 for almost a year now.

Here are a few things that might help some of you out. 1. Yes you can play full songs 2. You can have different ringtones (mp3 tones) for different people (look under your contacts info to set up) best if you crop your mp3 down to about 40s any longer and it�s just a waste of memory also best if you save then to your phone because if you remove you memory card the assigned mp3 to contacts will be lost and you will have to do it all over again. you can assign pictures to each contact 3. You can only use a 128 memory stick duo anything larger will not work 4. The phone is kind of slow at time depending one the theme you use. 5. You can make your own theme up with the right software (free from Sony) 6. This phone is great at picking up back ground noise 7. It could be better with its reception 8. It prints out great picture (4x6) 9. You can have lots of fun with this one. Sure this thing is laggy and can only use a 128mb MS in addition to the internal 32mb but it has a lot of pros also. One really cool thing is the video playback. I was able to shrink a 100mb, 11 minute Aqua Teen Hunger Force .avi episode down to a 17mb .mp4 without losing any video/sound quality. It's amazing! The videos are in 176x144 so they cant fill the 240x320 screen but the movies aren't too small to enjoy. The mp3 playback is also great and really opens up ringtone options. I have cut out 20 second clips from about 10 different songs and use them all for different people's ringtones. Opening the phone can be tough with one hand but I rarely have to open it so that's not a problem either (the main reason I open the phone is to turn it on/off). Also if you want to keep your phone protected I suggest checking out the custom made leather case from Krussel.

I actually e-mailed sony about this. The phone can only support a 128 meg dua memory stick. And no matter what the salesman at the store tells you, there are no plans of improving that. This seems to be the only bad thing about this phone though, looks pretty rock'n.

Aman, I was born in Syria but live in th USA. I to Syria almost every summer. I am just getting this phone and it should work in Syria because Syria uses both 900 and 1800. The phone is capable of operating on 1800 and will work in Syria. But the reason it isn't working for you is most likely because your phone is locked to a certain service providor in the USA and needs to be unlocked (Search google for "cell phone unlocking"). Also, there are now 2 service providors in Syria. Syriatel and Areeba. Syrialtel is 900 I believe and Areeba is 1800 I think. Good luck!

1) The phone takes a Memory Stick because all SONY products use Memory Stick 2) Sony Ericsson phones are great - I've had them for four years. Never had a problem with one. Although I heard you always need to wait until the 2nd dispatch of a particular phone to make sure all the bugs are removed. 3) And for one other question I keep seeing, perhaps the best way to put music and files on your phone is through bluetooth. So after a week of messing with this thing. I think this is a GREAT phone. The only downfall would be that Yes you can only get a 128mb card. a PRO DUO will not work this phone. I have no idea why they would do this. But i think 128mb is sufficient enough anyways. Video is good i don't really care that you can't use up the whole screen to watch things it still looks good. Picture quiality is SOO good on the phone. I had the razr before and i never really liked the camera. Mp3 player is great also the sound quality is great when used with headphones. It sucks that you can't use a standard 2.5mm plug but you can always just pick up an adapter from best buy for about 2 bucks. other than that everything else is great. I'm getting use to the bulkyness of the phone (i'm just coming from the razr so you can imagne the diff)

Please help! Today my camera stopped recognizing the memory stick duo card that came with the phone. Whenever I turn on the camera, it says "Insert memory card" - even if the memory card is inserted already. It used to work great - I had a dozen pictures on it. Great Fone! I got it mainly for its camera and its IMO the best out there. I dont want to drop $800 for a 2mp. But the mp3 function doesnt seem to work for me. Every time i go to transfer an MP3 thru the program provided by Sony, or just using Explorer, it resets my computer. No idea how to fix that, any suggestions??

I'm looking for a new phone after buying this one in a hurry. I couldn't be more unhappy with it. The kid in the phone store sold me on it. Sitting in my office at work, the reception comes and goes just from swiveling in my chair. The OS is also extremely slow. You can type in mutiple numbers as part of the call you're about to make, and then you have to sit there while the numbers populate the screen. Lastly the swivel design seems to have been an afterthought. It feels like within a year it'll be in pieces. For a $400 phone, it left quite a bit to be desired, I read this forum and the rave reviews about the S710, so I'm now pretty leary of buying in to the hype of the K750i. Both Samsung (D600) and Nokia (6270) have phones to compete with it. I'm going to make sure I don't get BS'd in to buying in a hurry next time to make sure I don't blow another $400 by not taking the time to make sure the quality is as good as someone says. Thank you.

I've had this phone for a week and it's generally OK. Pros (in addition to ones already mentioned) -It's not too difficult to open with one hand after practice. Cons (in addition to ones already mentioned) -camera interface is kinda clunky. After you take a picture you can't store it right away. You have to 'view all', pick the most recent picture, and only then you can save/send/add it. -The UI latency is most noticeable in the main menu. From standby it make take as much 1.5 or 2 seconds to show the main menu. It's much else noticeable elsewhere and tolerable after a while. -If you dial a number that requires an extension, that extenion # will remain on-screen after you end the call. You have to hit the 'back' button again to completely return to standby. -I had to trim a PDA screen protector to fit the s710. A phone this uber should at least have a third-party screen protector. -From standby, pressing either volume button displays the phone info. It's not very intuitive, I expected it to change ringer volume. It appears the only way to do that is deep inside the phone config menus. Hope this helps!

This is a good phone but the main difference between this and the s700i is that that it doesn't have a raido on it and that this phone has the edge system on it. edge is good if you have a data plan but it only works in a few areas right now so if you live in an area where edge doesn't work like in my area I would go with the s700i. The s710 also has aim installed on it which is cool but you can always do what I did and just set up a Yamigo account which lets you be able to im people on aim, yahoo, msn, and icq

If your using this phone for video, it is not the great. the video doesnt even fill up the whole screen, just like 1/3. also if your record your own video, is it okay but not great, lags a bit and not too clear. and this phone can only handle a duo 128mb memory card. 256mb and up are pros and this phone does not support it. hope this helps

I like my phone. As for mp3s, if you rip the song yourself, you can set how large or small the file is, so set it for smaller and you can have more songs than normal. just experiment until you find the right size for the quality you like. the menu is a bit slow, but, hasn't been a problem for me at all.

I Just got S710, and found a few bad drops in it. this phone doesnt have automatic LCD Pusher like we have in Sumsung D 500 We just have to push and LCD Will move automatically by itself. To answer a few questions: Click the link below for the $20 128-MB MS Duo and read through all the opinions, where you'll find the answer to your MS questions answered several times. The number of songs that a 128-MB card can hold depends on the size of the songs, but for example, I have 30 songs on my card right now. The menu navigation is slow throughout. It's as though any key press has a slow response. It's noticable, but I personally don't find it too annoying. Maybe I do less menu navigation than most. The phone does not charge via USB (maybe if you buy a USB adapter), it does not have a USB port built into it. The USB cable included is for connecting the (also included) Memory Stick Reader, which is your primary means of transferring music to your phone. The phone itself has 32 MB of internal memory. The phone is difficult to open with one hand. It is possible, though, and could probably be pretty easy with some practice. Closing it with one hand is quite a bit easier.

i had the same problem w/ calling... i would call someone, and it would terminate the call and hang up... also, i had the problem of static when talking but not so bad that i couldnt hear the person.... Overall, this is a great phone... thank gosh i didnt buy the Razr!!!!!!!!!!!

ive had my s710a for 4 months now and i totally LOVE it!!!! where i live i didnt get very good reception and when i got this phone the reception was amazing!!the camera is so clear i love taking pics. my friends absolutly love it. the design is wonderful i love how its so different from all the other phones out there.the only thing i dont like is that my phone has a bunch of scratches and i cant get ne covers for it. other than that i think the phone is absolutly wonderful. i highly recommend it

I just got my phone today in the mail from Cingular. Currently bargain-shopping some 128 MB Memory Sticks. The phone, thusfar, is awesome. The shutter sound problem that people have been having appears to be fixed. In my camera settings, I was able to choose from 3 shutter sounds or "no sound".

Re: the Lexar 256 MB Memory Stick - It can NOT be used with this phone because it is not a (physically smaller) Memory Stick Duo. The ONLY type of Memory Stick that you can use is the Memory Stick Duo (MUST be 'Duo', and CAN NOT be 'pro'). That Lexar Memory Stick is the only non-Pro Memory Stick I've seen with capacity over 128 MB. That's because the non-Pro Memory Sticks CAN NOT have more than 128 MB capacity. The only reason the Lexar stick has more is because it has a physical toggle switch on it that selects one of two 128-MB banks. You will probably not see this happen with Memory Stick Duos because they are too small to have a physical toggle switch (I could be wrong, though). I imagine that for as long as you have this phone you're just going to have to be satisfied with 128 MB of storage capacity. At least you can buy multiple Memory Stick Duos, though.

I've had mobile phones since 1992 and this is by far the best. The large and clear screen is incredible. Hiding the keys to make the screen larger is a great idea, since you hardly need the keys. I agre with all the positive commetns of the other posters but would like to add one more. I think Sony Ericcson put a larger antenna in this model, and that's very possible because of its layout. At one location my wife and I am at a lot, my old Sony Ericsson T616 didn't work, and my wife's Treo 600 doesn't work. But this phone works, at least most of the time, because it is really a weak signal area.

first and foremost, no you cannot use a pro card, and no you cannot use an adapter the phone is not big, just look at a nokia smartphone now then, my review. love the phone. its what i've been looking for a long time. pros: big screen camera easy to use BT EDGE 850 (i use tmobile but its still nice to have) theme editor is great mp3 ringtones design is unique cons: none really. o boo hoo it can't take more than 128, buy an mp3 player, i already own an iPOD if you like the form, then i say go for it and get it. this vs the s700i, if you need the 850, get this. if you dont, i'd still get this because it looks nicer than the s700

For people who are torn between the shining silver S700i and the ONYX BLACK S710a: Yes, the S700 and the S710 are basically the same phone: Both Tri-Band, Same Software, SAME SIZE. To the eye, the only difference would be in the color, whether you prefer black over silver or what not. Also, the S700 has an FM radio and the S710 has EDGE. HOWEVER, take into mind that these phones were made for different countries. For better reception, stick to whatever model of the phone you find at ur local mainstream Wireless Provider aka what you find at Cingular or T-Mobile, etc. This is because the phones, although both tri-band, they are compatible with different networks serving at different frequencies. The S700 works for 900/1800/1900 and the S710 works for 850/1800/1900. So as a result, the S710 in the US would be getting better reception than the S700 because it can rely on two network frequencies rather than the one that the S700i SO if you're living in the US, you're better off with the S710a. If you're bummed about the color like I was, just look for S710 or S710a housings on eBay or some other online store!

Yes. The phone has video recording capability. My friend has the phone, and it is actually pretty good, pictures look better than the video recording though. And the phone DOES have a usb port....its right in the specs. And the max you can get is 128 MB, I saw that one company made a memory stick duo 128MB x 2=256MB. Some guy said there is an adaptor to fit duo pro sticks, but I havent seen anything like it.

I had the Razor black edition and all i had was problems! Going online was slow (no edge) menus were slow ( the S710 is lightning compared to the razor) and to add on top of that ALL THE BLACK RAZORS HAVE FIRMWARE GLITCH THAT TAKES HORRIBLE PICTURES (when first taken pictures look fine but once saved gets terribly pixelated) And all i got with the motorola was a screen cleaner...great whooopie! I bought the Sony E. s710 i got headphones memory card etc. Well the moral is that the phone it's worth it's value and the razor is not!

Just picked this phone up for Free after rebates from Tigerdirect.com. They have it for $229 but I asked them if they would price match Amazon.com ($99)(Cingular). Holy jumpin' this is a sweet phone. I spent the last month looking online on sites like this one, reading review after review on phone after phone and i am completely satisfied with this phone. And, with the new firmware on it, its that much better. PROS: too many CONS: Only 128mb expandable memory. a bit big, but i treat it like a digital camera anyways. A bit slow menu navigation. No mini USB port. No compatible protective cases (yet). there are WAY MORE pros than cons, im just listing the cons because it would take too long to list all the pros. This phone is an unbelievable upgrade from my v220 that i broke (girl problems). If u have a fat wallet, pick this puppy up.

Yes you can put Mp3's from your computer on there, use the card reader they included with the phone, and just transfer the files as if you were cutting and pasting the songs onto another folder. windows xp should pop up with the expansion port asking if you'd like to see the pictures. And you have to be connected with the person your calling inorder to turn on the speaker phone, its the top left icon on the phone.

There isnt much difference. The s700i has fm radio and s710a has edge which is high speed internet but only if ur network supports it which T-MOBILE doesnt. So there isnt much difference.

Just spent an additional 20 mins poking around the developer forums etc, and at first glance (to answer my own question) no JSR-135 MMAPI support. Great. Looked wonderful. But how does my Java app send photos without it? Why is there ALWAYS something missing. With a 1.3 mpix camera you'd think JSR-135 would be a no-brainer

This is my dream phone. I love the gigantic screen, the swivel and Bluetooth. I�ve had it for a month now, and I still can�t believe how cool the video recorder is. It takes really good pictures and the speakerphone and mp3 player sound great. Plus, I was surprised it came with a USB memory stick reader and it wasn�t an additional accessory I had to purchase. This seems to be an awesome phone except that protective pouches have to be specialised cause it twists open and its a bit big. I would just like to know if the phone can take a memory card larger than 128mb? I know sony make a "Memory Stick Pro Duo" that sizes up to about 4GB. I'd be happy to fit 512mb, but 128 is just not enough once you want to listen to more than two cd's worth of music AND put applications, pictures and videos on it. Also, does anyone know if you can disable those anoying shutter sounds? If not, I hope someone from Sony Ericsson reads this and realises that it would be a good idea to add it in the next firmware upgrade? Still very decent phone. I'd recommend it without a doubt.

I just bought the phone. I really love it..very easy to use. One setback. I run and would like to carry it with me so I can use the mp3 player (rocks!) and take a call. There isn't any good stereo lightweight headphones other than earbud style that fits it. I bought the adapter to convert to 2.5mm but the lightweight stereo headphones are all 3.5mm. Any ideas?

Well i love it i had the MPX220 but it just didn't have the sound quality i was looking for. BUt when i got the S710, damn i love this phone the screen is so clear and for the guys u can just about put any wallpaper u want on there and it comes out crystal clear, and don't get me started on the features i love them. I lost my phone about a month ago. It was a Motorolla v600. This phone is one of the best I've ever used. People fail to mention that this comes with 3 different remotes for your pc(via bluetooth) right out of the box! Beyond that the bluetooth is seamless. I love that the voice dial activation is similar to that of a motorola. The camera is nice and has options similar to a regular sony digital camera. I love the swivel design although it makes the phone hard to hold when its closed up. The screen is the best I've seen yet. mms options are extensive with support for sending mp3's as attachments (1st time I've seen). There is so much more that impresses me with this phone but it would take too long to write all of that. The two things that bother me with the phone are the keys are too soft which makes it difficult to text quickly. Also, the battery life could be a little better but it is still better than any symbian based nokia I've ever had. A few more things are the stopwatch and the timer. Yes thats a small thing but that goes to show how much this phone comes with. The package you get with the phone is great ( memory stick, card reader, stereo headphones. GO GET THIS PHONE..... you wont regret it.

definately having trouble with the text messaging. the whole phone lags, which is only slightly annoying, but trying to text on it is enough to drive you mad if you have any kind of speed.

I picked one up 2 days ago. So far, I like it. The outlook sync works fine. Battery life is a little short if using bluetooth. Seems to last much longer without. I am trying to figure out how to use the S710 as a modem with laptop. I downloaded several apps & drivers, but so far have not made it work. Any suggestions?? Overall, the phone is great!!

Whomever was complaining about which frequencies are best to include with a "world" phone needs to know a little about Cingular's network in the US. Your idea of getting rid of 850 is ridiculously misguided given that the former AT&T Wireless spent most of last year overlaying their existing GSM sites and creating new sites with 850 equipment, ALL of which is EDGE capable. Not to mention is an improvement of transmission radius. The 1900 equipment was already out there, some with EDGE, some without. So if you are a normal US citizen who spends 50+ weeks a year in North America you definitely want a phone capable of both those 850 and 1900. Period. If you want to add a 3rd for internation travel, then argue amongst yourselves about 900 -vs- 1800. For 98% of the time, most of us in the USA don't really care. And please don't ask Cingular to follow T-Mobile's lead on anything.

Cingular must stop missleading people. 850/1800/1900 is not a truly an international world phone (neither a triband one). The 850 frequency is only used by Cingulat in the US and by 1 or two more countries. The 1800 frequency does not exist in half of the world (cingular claims that 1800 is the world frequency). Unlike 1800 , the 900 frequency is used in 98%of the world with the exception of 3-5 countries (Japan/WCDMA only, Korea/WCDMA only , 2-3 other countries that either use Iden or 1800 only). Cingular has two choices: 1)continue selling large collection of rotten Motorola phones (becaus Motorola is the only cellular manufactor that is capable of putting all 4 frequencies 850/1800/900/1900 in one phone soe far) 2)GET RID OFF shameful 850 frequency! (transfer on all 1900, like T-Mobile) In this case Cingular will be able to get normal triband 900/1800/1900 phones not only from Motorola, but from all other brands as well. Cingular must take an example from T-Mobile and their advanced 1900 Gsm Technology (Go Germans!) When T-Mobile says: trinad phone , it is truly is , becuase with T-Mobile triband is always 900/1800/1900 - a truly world phone!

To expand a little bit on Erics post. Yes it is true that this is a difference. The S710a has EDGE while the S700i does not, but the S700i has the FM radio which S710a does not have. The EDGE on the S710a replaces the FM radio on S700i. The only other differnces are the colors, and the GSM frequencies that the phones operate on. The suffix i on S700 tells us that it is manufactured for International use. It is triple band GSM 900/1800/1900. The suffix a on S710 tells us that it is manufactured for use in Americas. This means it is triple band GSM 850/1800/1900.

Although the S710a will work internationally wherever the 1800 (Europe, Asia) or 1900 (some Caribbean countries) exists, do remember that Cingular charges lots of money to roam internationally. If you buy a pre-paid Sim card over there, do make sure to unlock the phone before leaving. I talked to a Cingular rep. and he says all Cingular phones are now locked.

The S710a was made specifically for the United States ie "a" for Americas. The S700i obviously being the international version. They do this because our GSM network is not as advanced as other countries and needs specific features.

I've read anonymous reports which quote unnamed, if allegedly highly-placed, Cingular sources, that the S710a could be in the stores by the second week of February. Keep in mind the phone has only been listed as being available since November of 2004, and these sorts of rumors have been pretty constant. To Benny Boy: the S710a differs from the S700i in that it's modified for the American market - the S710 doesn't have an FM radio, supports EDGE, and works in the 850/1800/1900 mHz. frequency bands. The S700 has an FM radio, has no high-speed data access, and works in the European/Asian 900/1800/1900 bands.

The s710 will have a memory stick pro duo expansion slot which would obviously address the issue of the limited 128 Mb built in capacity. Since the MS Pro Duo has a maximum storage capacity of 512 MB and with an adapter could accommodate the 4 Gig storage of the higher capacity MS Pro. I wouldn't worry about the memory expandability of this phone.

the S710 is for the US/canadian market. S700 for Europe. S710 does not have FM radio but has a better data transfer system which is 3 times faster then the S700.

For those who wonder what the difference is between the S710 and S700 is the lack of fast mobile data transfer - EDGE, which is not supported by S700. The S710 has it and most networks are supporting EDGE more and more.

No, you are wrong. I have a sony ericsson S700i too and my pal has S710i. I think S710i is better because the design is more to the modern and as the gossamer transparentive wings of the phone begin to unshed and gliding, I find mine was a lot worse... What a regret...

After having much view of the S710,in my personal opinion, there not much difference with S700i. I myself is using S700i and I must say that it's a remarkable phone. Despite having a great cash to pay for S700i, nevertheless it's worth it after all. So if any of u are wondering to buy S700i or S710, I would say S700i is sufficient enough.

Further to my last comments, I've done some digging, and I can't see the S700 or S710 being released in Australia too soon. Expansys and a couple of other sites don't have it listed on their pre-orders. Sorry!

Hey Guys, The S700/S710 will have a SIM card, SIM free refers to a phone bought without a SIM card, as in, offline. When you buy a SIM free handset you must have a SIM to put in the handset yourself. Hope this clears things up. Simon

The User Interface for this phone should be the standard SE one. It'll be very similar to the one found in the K700. It is not a smartphone. I believe the main prupose of it is to emulate a digital camera, but still function as a phone.

This is basically the S700 for the Americas. It will operate on the 850 (800), 1800, and 1900 frequency bands. It also has EDGE which the S700 does not. Both phones feature a built-in radio.
