Daniel, I have a W890i and yesterday my phone seems to have lost it's memory and gone back to basic settings. I have tried taking the battery out and restarting it and turning it off and on etc but it won't return to my set up! The thing is it also tells me that I have no photos either in phone or on memory card, and I have many precious pictures stored in it! Do you have any ides at all how I can retrieve my photos? Hope you don't mind me asking you!

Just found me old one in a box, it looks like it has taken quite the beating but wow, this phone was gorgeous! Incredibly slim, light and great camera! It was expansive but absolutely worth it. I'm currently searching for a new frame and battery so I can get this phone back in action since this phone is going for almost $80 which, actually isn't insane since because it's a much better phone than the $50 smart phones today, less features but insanely reliable, light, superior high quality and over all awesome! Over all, slightly pricey today but if you need phone that just works, all the time, you should consider one.

I updated my phone this morning after a couple of weeks and it seems as though most of the numbers I had saved on it have disappeared. After following the instructions to restart the phone after removing/ replacing the battery, it asked me if I wanted to transfer the nos from the sim to the phone, so I did. the best phone I ever had . still running without problems since 2007. call quality is excellent. thats what a phone is supposed to do ? well I thought so . slim , easy to hold in hand . can talk for hours without fatigue.please remake sony . i have this model since it was first released...i love it coz of it's 3.2 megapixel camera,and the fact that it was slim...i don't know.. but i think the volume sounds was not that loud...and sadly lately i also experienced the sound alerts are not working anymore...but despite that i still love my w890i...

Bought W890i from Hongkong supplier. After 6 months of us, the Incoming Call Alert does not ring, no matter what Profiles you use, Alert types etc. Even tried Phone Repair using PC Suite. All it does is Vibrate ONLY. Frustrating ...it cost just as much to get a new phone to fix it..SONY ERICSSON you must do better.

Heavy user will have trouble after using for 1Yr for sure... When you dial a number or answer a call which is not saved in your phone book - phone will restart. and it will be very slow. Sony ericcson will ask you to upgrade your software, you will end up upgrading once a month...

@ Anonymous to download pc suite its very very very easy way. just type on google : download pc suite sony ericsson w660 (for example) and choose the web address u want to download pc suite. my phone explorer is the application for sony ericsson to accompany with pc suite. sorry again for my poor english the time now ( i hope not in my future :) )

@ Anonymous u want to update your firmware its the same meaning that u want to reflash your phone. that's why u need a driver called usb flash driver. search on google how to download and how to install the driver. when u done download the driver, to install u must hold c button when u plug the usb cable to your phone and the phone in off condition. no need to hold 5 minutes, just a few second and the driver will be installed. sorry for my poor right now :)

complaints about phone restarting are nonsense, this was the case in early 2008 before any firmware update was out. since its release, there were many updates and the last one is from middle of 2008, version R1FA035 (36 and 37 are identical, only difference is network-specific branding). so don't listen to people who for some reason complain about ancient firmware trouble in 2010 and never bothered to use the sony update service software. w890 has too low volume in its standard stupid configuration from sony. also its video and photo shooting quality and interface are terrible. both have third party fixes that make the phone great like it should have been by default. the acoustics and camera drivers can easily and safely be updated. here are the best versions as of today: overall this phone has great and exceptional build quality, unlike even much more expensive and recent 10mm and below phones. it has a comfortable and quick interface, bluetooth takes very little battery time especially when set to powersave mode, and most importantly (it is a phone after all) it has great sound quality especially if you update the acoustics driver. for a phone this thin, it is a great achievement, and way before others, in 2007. the screen is very nice but like almost all others it is pretty much impossible to view in direct sunlight (and i do mean sunlight, so you englishmen or similar can save me your comments, and so can you "why do you want to use a phone while standing in sunlight you pathetic human" people). the sony computer driver and software integration is perfect, even in windows 7 64-bit. very well laid out and always reliable. this is a great advantage over some other companies' software (cough nokia). one sadly missing feature is phone number based blocking of calls and messages. in short i made a very, very extensive research before coming to the conclusion that this phone, with 2 little modifications, is by far the best super slim phone one can buy today if he/she wants high quality *phone* features. and i'm not even talking about the walkman audio player features. oh and there's even wav support.

I have had the phone for about a year. To save battery life switch 3G off and bring your screen brightness down to 50% then it lasts a long time. The speaker on the phone is kinda lame and the camera has no zoom. I really want to get the w995!

I have had the phone for a couple of months now, used it intensively on the internet. No problems. The only time the phone has blanked out seems to be when it goes from one base transmitter to another (the phone clears its self after a minute or so) everything else for the money seems great.

I'm not against all the downside of this phone... aside from switching on/off by itself, well, going ten months with this phone... sound quality is superb! earphones are perfect. it has mega bass to brag about. ...last night, i left the phone on a mono block bench on our open roof deck -- I went downstairs to check on my other phone... suddenly without warning... it rained. I hurriedly went back upstairs to get W890i, I saw my phone all wet! Man! i said to myself... this is the end of my W890i... Luckily! i immediately, wrapped the phone with my shirt, then went checking the phone after... to my surprise?! the phone still worked perfectly fine. oh! yeah! Hi Pierre-Louis Ricardo, I'm with the UK Three network provider, which has an app (could just be a link)to YouTube. It does work, the quality isn't great, passable though. Best viewed with headphones in for better audio quality (I find the supplied headphones to be of good, no need for replacement). I downloaded Mini Opera 5, which works very well with it, great intelligently designed app. Scan around a full size web page to get the impression of the layout, then select to zoom in for the legible detail. The key/navigation pad is a bit close together, which I'm now getting used to, the main thing is the key presses are responsive and good to use. The screen is good quality (vivid colours, blacks aren't washed out). Legible in sunlight, although my Sony-E W810i was better only with regards to sunlight). Relative to the great price I paid, I'm happy with it. It also came with a 2GB M2 card. I've been prating about getting a replacement for the W810i which I used/lost for gps navigation on my road bike (I thought it was a great phone), This seems close, should have had an autofocus camera though, rather than the PR spin ever increasing "Megapixels" (Lens aperture/quality is the main thing). Hope some of the detail helps.

Pretty good, about three days with 3G use and MP3's (4/5 hours a day), FM radio uses very little power. The radio / MP3 player sound very good to me with supplied silicone ear-bud in ear headphones, signal reception seems very good. I really like the fact it's only one CM thick and light (hardly notice in trouser jacket pocket). As it's a bit older now in terms of the technology roller-coaster so prices are great too. Screen protector/silicone case, sorted...

Exactly my sentiments, Anonymous- you get people complaining that some phones are not loud enough to play music on... The problem should only be when one can't hear the phone ringing. As for listening to music, they should use the earphone/pieces- they are very good, you know!

The w890 is without a doubt the worst phone i have ever had, its very slow, so slow it cant run more than one app at a time, the keypad is too compact, it blackscreens and restarts all the time. the only good thing is that its small and fits into a pocket.

It is a nice slim phone (reason why I bought it) but its loudspeaker is poor in comparison to the Nokia 6300, 6500, 5130 and Asus P750 phones belonging to my family members. At random times of the day, this phone says "Inactive SIM" and shuts down. Sometimes starting up and immediately restarting again. Power button doesn't work during this cycle so the battery needs to be removed. The service providers in South Africa, only swap it out for the same, but refurbished model. I have my 4th one already and it's doing the same thing. I am on my way to book it in for the 5th time now and it's very irritating to know what the outcome is going to be. 2 weeks without my phone or contacts, with no hope of receiving a phone that works. Bad one guys.

WORST PHONE EVER!!! It has great features which is why I originally chose it, but it constantly restarts itself, freezes, comes up with 'inactive sim', now the ringtone speaker doesnt work but the walkman speaker does?? I thought this phone was great at first, but now, like many others (search the net) it suffers from the red light of death. At least 5 to 10 times a day the red light comes on and screen goes black, most annoying if it does it in your pocket and reboots then you have no key lock on and can possibly dial some one wasting your money. Personal opinion, no offense. This phone is full of problems, I DO NOT recommend everyone to buy it. I own it within 6 month and now I decided to sell it, price is going down too fast, too. 1. Camera not 3.2 2. Always reboot 3. Always off phone automatically and need to take out the battery to reset, if not it just will keep remain at the "starting" on the phone, with the red light at the back 4. Battery life LOW 5. Phone easily hot when talking phone for longer time 6. The button will scratch and the words on it will disappear 7. Always lag and hang time to time 8. Sometimes the pop-up will remain although you closed it(e.g. messages/call pop up) In conclusion, I DO NOT recommend everyone to buy it, I FULLY REGRET to own this phone. Take good care of your phone. S o that it wouldn't cause any problems. One thing though, don't over use your phone with complicated apps...this would create heavy wear & tear of your phone faster. Experiencing Hang-ups? maybe, you're using too many apps...heavily! Don't pressure your phone. Don't test your phone to the limit. simple * basic apps would mean nice to your phone. It's that simple. Those people complaining for sorts of problems...well, let's just say, you were testing the phone pressuring the phone to the limit.

I have had this phone for 18 monthes...Boy am I glad to finally be able to Upgrade!!! In 18 months, I have actually had FOUR of this phone! They tell me that they havn't had other people complain about the problems I've had...but I find it odd that every phone has the SAME thing happen everytime! It turns itself off constantly, or the screen goes blue & it vibrates, & to get it to come back you have to press the On/Off button to get it to ''wake up'' Extremely annoying when it happens when your writing a long text message... The case is SO thin & brittle because of it being made of Aluminium , that if you knock or drop it, theres nothing to absorb the shock, I think this means that it is bound to not last..unless you wrap it in Cotton Wool....

I have just posted my concerns regarding this phone. I received two swap out units of which the first swap out unit's ringtone also didn;t work. This phone is crap. I had the w880 and loved it very much and upgraded to the w890. From new, out of the box, It says INACTIVE SIM and then switches itself off randomly. Sometimes 5-6 times in a row. During this time the power button doesn't work. Must remove the battery. This happens about 5 times per day and sometimes when it's only lying on the desk. I'm not even using or handling it, then it shuts down. Software upgrade didn't work. My service provider swapped my phone out with a refurbished 2nd hand unit which did the same. Now with the 2nd swap out, looks like it's fine now. Very disappointing.

Sony Ericsson suck! They used to sell their mobile phones with their attractive designs. A lot of users have been cheated by SE. Good at the outside, but rubbish at the inside. Bad hardwares, bad firmware. My previous K660i after using for a few months, suddenly the battery and phone heat up without reason and the battery energy ends up after a few hours. After master reset, it's still the same, even the battery has been changed. SE phones are good to use during the first few months, after that, a lot of problems with come to you. Trust me, don't go for sony ericsson if you want reliable, durable, and good phone to used for.

Hi please do not buy this phone!! It has software problems!!! When i first bought it i loved it so slim and real nice luking, however after 4mths the volume stopped when it rang, brought it back they fixed it and after another mth it did same again! Sent it back and they gave me a replacement before i left the shop i checked it and just a line came across the screen nothing else. I'm currently waiting on being offered an alternative phone.

I returned it to place of purchase and they sent it for testing... it turns out its a known fault with this model of fone and they replaced it with a better model. It's better using playlists and having the album art support using the software instead of using the drag n drop method, which I perform also! But I usually drag n drop the files AFTER I imported them into iTunes after I've tagged the files with the album art! Too bad SE's Media software, now updated to MediaGo, still S-cks!! SE never can make good media software for their phones!!

Download the NEW Update software (check out the newer models like the W995's software section). It's much better than the previous version which was Cr-p!! Still have my w890 and upgraded it and it works fine though now it's my backup phone as I've switched over to the W995! Weird how many people are complaining about the phone now especially how it restarts itself! Never had that problem with mine(KNOCK ON WOOD)! It's a good phone with good reception, depending on the call area) and the media player works fine! Just a tad small and the camera S-cks! No AF/Flash so shots generally came out blurry! Use a dedicated digital camera so don't care anymore! It's not meant to be a camera phone anyway! The w890 is now replaced by the W705 which is a slider phone but the camera still isn't good, according to various online reviews! It is a Walkman phone!

After 9 months of usage, these are the major issues plaguing the phone - Photos are very prone to shaking, where even slight movement makes the photos blurry, thus rendering it almost useless. - Frequent errors at certain memory points used to store SMS messages. Deleting these messages in bulk results in instant reboot, or complete crash with a red light (recovery by removing battery) - Occasional crashes on answering calls. - Music skips or stalls while playing halfway. I don't recommend this phone unless you like the slim look and feel, which was what caught my attention in the first place.

thanks for the comments, but i am sure my phone is a regular SE phone. the Vodafone icon is there only because it had the Vodafone firmware for some reason. when newer firmware was flashed, it was gone (but unfortunately so did some of the languages). the question is how the fimrware language is added? maybe it is a different file that the store can add to the latest firmware which they do have...

SE SW update service constantly says my phone is having latest firmware. i do not have latest firmware!!! i have 1200-9164 R1FA030 080504 i know new firmwares link R1FA035 and R1FA037 are available. i suffer from bugs that are resolved for a long time now - e.g. low speaker volume and bad sound quality phone hang occasionally and do not respond for many seconds few more details about my phone: 1. i basically bought it SIM FREE unlocked in a shop. 2. i have a "Vodafone live" icon on the menu (not sure if this means the phone is BRANDED or not) 3. i have HEBREW (my mother tongue) language installed in the phone. more efforts that i made: i went to the store and they downloaded latest firmware from SE flashing my phone. after it was flashed with newer firmwares the Vodafone icon was gone but so did the HEBREW. they said the newer firmwares does not support HEBREW so they moved me back to my original firmware. why can't i have the bugs fixed and still have my language? please help, i love this phone but suffer from severe bugs that are fixed for ages. i was also happy to know more about my fimrware: is it BRANDED? whay does all the figures in the firmware name state? thanks, Slash.

SE just released Sony Media Go 1.1 as their media software. It's slightly better than the previous media software but it still sucks compared to iTunes! Can't just drag n drop songs into Media Go and have software create playlists like iTunes which is iTunes greatest and easiest feature! Also, can't drag n drop playlists into phone's media card like iTunes to the iPod. Transferring files take a L... O... N... G... time and sometimes slows down the PC (NO KIDDING!) Avoid SE's W Walkman phones and stick with the Picture phones!!

Battery usage depends on how you use the music player and whether or not any other apps are playing. Turn OFF 3G, if used. Turn OFF any other apps in background. Do Not use features (i.e. FFW or Rev or equalizer) The phone should last anywhere between 9-18 hours (BST 40 battery gives you a slight more time but the phone's back will bulge a bit since it's slightly thicker than the standard BST-33 battery).

Without doubt the worse and most annoying phone I've ever owned. I'm on to my 4th replacement now - the others keeped powering themselves off, as does the current one I have which is due to be binned as my contract expires. The buttons are way to small, response is slow, you will go through countless handsfree kits as the plug breaks and that also effects the charger plugs too. One plus point is the music player which I'd expect from Sony other then that rubbish. Avoid like the plague

I( have had so many problems with the phone, it's driving me mad. The reception is so bad, I keep getting emergency calls only. After you dial your number and press call, it takes about a minute before you can hear the ring tone. I have sent it for repairs once already, now it is booked in for asecond repair. The phone looks great, but not much good if you can't make a call from it!!!

Use BST-40 battery which is compatible (check older postings as others have mentioned it much earlier) but does pump up the phone so the back just sticks out somewhat! 2. Anyone tried using SE's media software?? The software is BS and does NOT create playlists and does NOT allow edits to any names!! It's S*** and should be avoided! You can always drag n drop the files into the media card but then you MUST create PAINSTAKINGLY the playlists for EACH folder you create!! What a pain the A**!! That's why SE phones are NOT good anymore! What good is the media player when 1) the controls are too DAMN SMALL and 2) the media software SUCK?!! Using the iPod now for ALL music and use the SE phone for just that purpose, a PHONE and NOTHING MORE!! Never buy another damn SE phone!

SE has MANY problems with their firmware for their phones! Users should download the New Update software as it works better than the previous version! Unfortunately, the arcane method of holding the "c" key is still present! Guess SE engineers really are "stupid" when they can't produce a decent update software and require users to hold a key down for an update! How quaint!!!

Well, it's good to hear that I'm not the only person both loving and hating this phone. The design and the keypad are amazing, but the battery is really poor and the phone often lags or just turns itself off. For months I had a problem with bad reception, even when I was standing in the middle of Oslo. There is also something wrong when I call someone or recieve a call, I can hear this weird "knocking" sound coming out from the phone. I've sent the phone back to the store three times, they've even swapped the unit, but the problems are still there. It seems to be a problem among all the silver colored phones. Now I'm so tired of this phone and all of its problems, so I'm buying a new phone. I would absolutely recommend this phone, though not the silver grey.

I've been using this model for a year. This phone has been great. The pad is great for texting..soft. Just a bit small that's all. The phone is slim...Really suitable for ladies actually.Camera - not bad. Overall it's a great phone to get.I bought a mocha colour -looks classic and special. Once I took out my phone, all my friends will say that it's a very good looking phone..haha.

I have never had any problem with the w890i. To extend battery I kept brightness at 50% and turned off 3g. The same things I do to Nokia phones to extend battery. Keep note of any background running applications as they also take power to keep running.

The worst phone I have ever laid my hands on!!!!!! Do not buy, unless you want to torture yourself. It began on day one, by not charging properly. Then it began to switch off, and not switch on again. Then I had to start pulling out the battery, as I could not switch it off to switch it on again. Now it cuts out about five times a day and this week it has started to refuse to send text messages. I was assured by my phone company ( who have been useless) that I needed a new sim, and that would rectify everything!!!!!!!!!!! Surprise surprise, today, with my new sim, it switched off three times in the space of twenty minutes and I still cannot send texts!! I wont even mention the complete and totally useless battery life. Sony Ericsson should be responsible and refund every poor soul that hs been subjected to this torture.

The phone says Inactive SIM and then restarts. Sometimes it does this 5 times in a row. While it's doing that, NOTHING works. You can't even press the power button to shutdown. You simply have to wait it out or remove the battery. I liked the w880 so much, I went to the one better when I had the option to upgrade. Now, I'm seriously disappointed. I've searched the net and a lot of people has this problem. Is there a fix?

yeah totally right. virus can b on memory card.but it cant infect the phones system.cuz SE W890 is not a smartphone or sumthing that have a OS. if the virus creator is a genius he have to get inside the phones system to attack the w890.i think it cant b done. so if u detected any virus on ur memory and phones memory when u connect it to PC. just clean them with a good virus guard. im going to get this phone nxt week. still i didnt use it.hope its a nice music phone with 3g which can make a call and send a txt msge. alpha,all of the cellphones are subject to viruses esp. w/ memory card,same with other flash card everytime you connect or load from the other by any means of transffering, dont worry as long as your PC have an anti virus, it well automatically remove or well clean your phone.

as i know SE phone are not prone to viruses like nokia, but i do experience it having a system error/or a virus maybe, it attacks my games and applications, but i just update my phone and its gone. but i do want to know what really happen, i have a games that i installed that causes to make an error to my phone (so beware to the things you put in your phone) then i use usb to plug my phone to PC, to see what happened, i disabled the unhide option for the pc, and then i go to my phone mem drive, then to the system folder, then i see a new folder inside the java that looks new...and has a different name, so that casuases the problem, but for that time i dont know what to do, so a go to the SE repair shope to know what causes it. what the!...they just update the software(it is different to master reset we have) just update they did, and my phone is back to nowmal by the way my old phone that has it is my k800i for me SE phones are not prone to virus, be sure when adding a games or application, or songs, be very sure to scan it thru anti virus in our PC,... lets just wait for the SE or other people/teams to develop a java based anti virus. regards.

dont use the cd tranfer in the media manager, here how - first, rip/copy every songs on your CD to your computer. then after doing that, use/open media manager and drag your songs that you save in your computer, then transfer it to your phone, it is not to complicated, im using the media manager for the senseME thing.

I forgot,..Everytime you connect your USB cable to PC.You will select an option "mass storage",then the phone will frone you.just klik "yes" continue.. then wait till the phone reboot klik "ok" to continue..you will notice your PC will appear an icon usb connection on your right task bar...you can start now transferring musics(mp3,pictures,pdf's files etc..follow the procedure below.

i have had my w890 for nearly 9 months now at first i was ver happy with the slim design although the camera is not really great but i didn't mind about that. Then after a few weeks the software started playing up it would randomly freeze when i was writing a message it just couldn't handle the command. the back red light would come on and everything would freeze if it didn't sort itself out i would take out the battery and put it back in and all would be sorted. then a few weeks later it would do the same thing but i would just put it back on again. however the other day it done the same thing again this time it didn't turn back on, the phone broke simply from typing out a text message which i thought was pretty pathetic! Well i contacted my service provider and luckily i was still under warranty and they will fix it free of charge. . a friend of mine works in a mobile phone shop (orange) and he said that most software complaints are logged for sony ericssons especially the w890 and w880 the slim designs. its really put me off sony ericssons now which is a shame because i wanted the c905!!!

Hey guys, a little help? The first time I installed and used Media Manager, it worked. But the next day I tried to transfer files from my PC (CD Music) to my phone, it wouldn't work. Like, it kept saying "Connect the USB to the Phone" so on. But it's already connected. Plus, when I connected the USB, I confirmed it on my mobile phone by clickeing "Media Transfer". Help please. What can be wrong? Is it our PC? Or the phone? Or how I worked things. I'm not really into all these tech stuff. All I really need is to get my music from CD transferred to my phone. The W890 was my first SE but regretably will also be my last. It's costing me a lot in time and money. I have to rely on my 'old' nokia or V6maxx whilst W890 back at suppliers for umpteenth time. A cellphone must first be a good or at least average phone before it pretends to be anything else!!

I'm a little scared about all the negative feedback from users in here but I think I'll keep my phone low-pro, not maximize the memory so it won't crash. I fell in love with it. I got so many problems with this phone, when sending text it crashed which resulted in the phone just storing everything in the outbox and showing it was trying to send, then it wouldn't let me delete any text from outgoing box which meant any other text i was trying to send kept going in outbox, so had to muck about and get the text deleted, can't remember how done it. Crashes even when i'm not using it, and i hold my breath when i'm on an important call cause it has a habit as pointed out by others of just going off on you, thus resulting in having to turn the phone off and back on, which is a massive pain and not very reliable. The sound is rubbish, its like theres no base on it when a tune plays out loud on it. Which from sony ericsson i would of expected better in this department. Best sound i've heard on a phone is the nokia n95 8gig. I am actually disappointed with the reception of this particular phone. It does not have wonderful signal strength and i experience dropped calls all the time. It has impressive build quality and excellent set up and layout. Does not make up for the frustrating cut offs everytime though.

Hy all, I got this phone and I think its very cool. Its true that sound is not the best as I expected from a walkman mobile. My sister has W660 and its sound is much more better and louder. On the other hand its display is more than beautiful. I have only one problem. When i upload a photo from pc and try to add it to a contact and using it as a photo ID it never works cause the phone always says "the photo size is too big". I cut the photo to 80*80 pixels (100kB), but the phone still says its big.... But if i make a photo with phone camera in 3MP and using this photo as a contact ID it works. Anyone can help with this problem? Thanks!

I have a W890 and all the bloody thing does is crash. Often doesnt send messages. The phone will crash, red light goes on at back and only way to restart handset is to hold the on/off button until it restarts itself. Ultimate nightmare and the phone looks so pretty.

there are two red lights. one is at the back beside SE logo...it lights up when you turn on the phone and when you are recording a video. the other light is beside the camera button. it flashes when you insert the charger pin when the battery is complety empty.(less than 5percent battery)

i have had exactly the same problem. i returned it to 3 for repair but they said they couldn't replicate the fault and so sent it back to me and the problem is still there. also, has anybody experienced any issues with the red light on the back on the phone, next to the SE logo. sometimes my phone dies and this red light lights up, but there is no explanantion in the manual.

Observe that this phone, as many of S-E's models has a calendar application, where the reminder feature is unusable. It does not repeat. The alarm is low and short. Thus you basically miss it when you set it. And S-E has no intention of fixing it. Most newer phones form S-E has this problem.

Phone is currently working. Sometimes the coverage comes and goes but that's the phone company not necessarily the phone's fault. Camera sucks as there's AF or flash. Zoom doesn't work when using 1mb or above for shots! HATE, HATE, HATE using SE's phone adapter to use with my "NORMAL" earphones. Media player controls SUCK! Music quality is quite though. Just the design that SUCKS! Gave up on phone being a media player, now that I got the newer 4G Nano to replace my aging 3G Nano! SE W phones will NEVER be a "true" media player. It's just a phone WITH a media player feature. Camera is best suited for the C/K series. Once my phone contract is up at year's end, may just... sigh..... consider signing with ATT in the USA to get the iPhone especially since there are rumors that a "newer" version is due out later in 2009! Reason to giving up SE phone: 1. Updating the iPhone is easy compared to SE phones as Update software SUCKS! 2. ATT phone coverage is pretty good now in USA (or at least improved in my area) 3. iPod in iPhone is still THE BEST media player 4. Don't care about camera still I have a digital camera anyway Won't consider another SE phone... Most are all damn pricey anyway with features that don't work well and their software/service SUCK! Their phone quality and prices would help explain why the SE isn't doing well in the phone market. Anyone having problems with the SE Update Service software? I think it's BS!! It does NOT work!! Tried it on home computer then installed it on 3 "company" computers and the software still does NOT work!! Downloaded the latest version from SE! Followed instructions to install "supposed" update as SE Media Manager popped up message stating that update was available and use Update software to update. 1. Plug in USB cable to computer 2. Remove then reinstall battery 3. Hold "C" button while plugging in cable to computer 4. Press "continue" in Update software ..... WAITING.... WAITING....FINGERS ACHING.....WAITING...... Then....Phone turned on into phone mode within 3 minutes! WTF happened?! Had similar problems with P1i before getting rid of it! Now crappy software still does not work with w890i either!! Don't have internet service on phone! Is that method "easier" to use??? Does it even work??! AAUGGGHH!! i never right reviews but i have to say this is the worst phone i have ever ever owned. The memory card kept falling out (had to jam it in with a piece of paper) it freezes it stopped ringing & sms tone the camera is useless - no AF & no flash means unless the lighting is perfect and u have the most steady hands in the world, the pic is just a dark blur sony insists on using that rediculous connector for adapters & the charger - not much use for protability as it doesnt stay in in ur pocket plus mine broke the 3g switches off if it doesnt have a perfect signal the buttons are too small overall its a slow phone DO NOT GET IT. by the way, after only 8 months, i literally snapped my phone in half, on purpose. worst phone in the world, built by sales people.

Very nice designed phone. Listening music&radio, watch videos with high quality. Only camera is less, no flash and sometimes quality is not great. For the rest, W890i is good; a lot of space for contacts (7000!), funny games, Sens Me, Music Mate, stopwatch, timer etc. Menu is very pleasant. Everytime I see my phone, I think it is a good buy ;D

Had this phone since it's release and though there are some software issues whereby the phone randomly reboots (usually when you're trying to access the caemra), it doesn't deter from what a great phone this actually is. Nowadays you can pick one up for a neat �110 (Tesco). Definitely worth the money.

many have comments on the signal/network issue.for w890i, its antenna is located at the bottom of the unit, opposite side of the microphone.. in my case, which i do have one, and when trying to make calls, i just ensure im on the average signal strength..Still w890i is a good unit and the latest i own from previous sonyericsson phones.

W890 has a better design-so slim u can hide it in your palm,too bad the keypad is also slim,bad signal and the phonespeaker is lousy for W series.as for W595 some person concern bout M2 issue,but has a better speaker output,also there's some neat features-not new but neat-other than that these two are almost similar in performance and good phones

Hi guys, to fix problem with low volume, go to the media player -> options -> settings -> equaliser, try and set the settings there the way you prefer it, it should boost volume level, give it a try, worked with my W890i

I own the phone for 1 month now and I had no problems. The only thing you need to know is that the signal transmitter is at the bottom of the phone, not the top. So when you talk or send an sms, be carefull not to hold it below the bottom and you ll be fine.

I have the espresso black version of this phone. It's interface is pretty good, the mp3 player is decent, the sound quality is pretty good. The ringtone does not work any more which means I miss ALOT of calls. The camera is pretty useless in the dark, during the day its fine. The battery time is not bad but not good either. 6/10 for the phone. Does anyone know how to fix the ringtone issue?

Owned one now for about two weeks, not a bad phone. I wanted something smaller than the bricks that quite a few manufactures are making at the moment. As is usual with SE it's easy to use. Had been using a Samsung E250 for a few months and the w890 is so much better. Far better call quality, far better display, camera etc. But there again the w890 cost me �100 and the Samsung �30 so I guess you get what you pay for. Other people have complained about reception, mine on o2 doesn't seem any worse than any other 3G phone I've used. Certainly no worse than the o2 Stella (HTC Tytn2) which I use for work. Of course the 3G signal uses higher frequencys that don't tend to penetrate buildings anyway - so it's always going to be a bit rubbish:-( Battery life is ok, not brilliant but is any 3g phone with a bright colour display nowadays? The ring is not as loud as some phones I've owned, most of the ring tones included, of which there are quite a few are mp3's which seem a bit soft. The only minor problem I've found so far is the vibration - it's really weedy, but I guess with a phone only 10mm thick the vibration mechanism must be tiny.

Ive had one for 2 months and its the worst phone ive ever had, it keeps dropping signal or having no signal at all in areas where signal is available. It has been returned for checking and ive been told there is nothing wrong with it. I wouldn't recommend buying one.

No it did not helped :))) Nice PR but the fact is that W890 makes lousy pictures and horrible video. Even SE staff never denied that - are you new? No autofocus!!!!! No flash!!!!!!! The buttons are very small and purely designed. The problems with the battery and with reception were widely reported! And there are all kind of problems with this model. Many places do not sell it anymore. The last price was pretty low but nobody was interested. I guess SE went to the bottom and just pull them.

The video resolusion as read in spec. is QVGA. This means 320�240 pixels. I had the phone and from a very detailed analysation of the photos it capytures about 10-15 fps in video mode. On the other hand the still images from this phone are so great full of colors even better than previous SE 3.2MP cyper-shot. It takes the still shot in about one sec exactly or may be less. Once you hit the capture button you have the pic. Then the processing (saving) takes place. Unlike other phones which takes at least 3 sec to get the shot then 3 sec to process the image. Its a great cyper-shot. And the greatest walkman ofcourse. Hope that helped.

The phone itself isn't that bad. Good call quality. Walkman works "relatively" fine except... The Sony Media Manager really SUCKS!! It's THE WORST software ever! It does NOT work!! Can't even get it installed on my home computer, got it installed at my "work" computer, heaven forbid the boss finds out! Transfering files to the 8G M2 card takes... a... long... time!! Without a playlist, the Walkman software will NOT recognize any files! PERIOD! If you have 20+ playlists with songs, you MUST MANUALLY create the playlist IN THE PHONE WHICH IS REALLY DAMN TIRESOME AND TIMECONSUMING! Because of this, I probably will NOT buy another SE phone! Their software really SUCKS! Strangely, it's the SAME software supposedly included with Sony's mp3 player! This would explain why the Sony mp3 player will NEVER, EVER beat Apple's iPod! Damn software is making me waste about 30 minutes ADD. time just creating the Damn playlists IN THE PHONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I don�t know why people are complaining about the battery life. Mine last for 5 days in standy and little talking and 3 days, listening to music, watching a couple of videos and some calls. Never had any signal issues. My signal is always at maximum. No problems with the phone so far..

i have two w890i they are four months old on an 18 mnt contract both have poor signal and drops calls often they both loose the ringtone cure remove the battery and sim card reasemble they will ring again for a short time i had to send one back to se because the ringtone was gone they had it a month then told me it was water damaged they charged me eleven pounds to send it to me they wanted to bin it for free (great) so know i have one phone that has 14 mnths still to go that has no ringtone i wish i had not taken these two phones at all they are very poor.

My W890i, 3months after purchase, the ringtone alert and message alert completely fail. Only works on vibrate. The musics, video sounds all work ok. Tried taking battery out, master reset, update software, changing profiles to silent and back to normal again. Still doesn't fix the problem. Go to the SE website for the PC Suite for the w890i. As far as anyone can tell, the software is meant for PC users not Mac users. SE software generally doesn't work with Macs. But.. someone can correct this comment if it does work with Macs.

hi guys sometimes my w890 loses the network, while it has a full network signal and gives the "emergency calls only" , so i have to go to settings and adjust that by searching networks and choose mine and then it comes back.. this happens almost once daily... when I choose "GSM only" it helps... but it is not over yet did anyone had the same problem and how to fix it . thanks

it's a totally good phone. my brother has it and im planning to buy one this christmas. if ur a music fan and is a little tight on the budget, go for this phone. it somes with a 2GB card which can store upto 400 good quality tracks and it's really nice to look at. to top it of, it has a 3MP camera. no autofocus, but i think they reserve that for the cybershot phones nowadays. nonetheless, it's still good quality pictures. sometimes really i think it's actually made for the hands of a girl:)...but what the heck, i mean it comes in black anyway..ive seen the espresso brown variation of the phone by the way, it's really looks pretty. go for this phone. it really rocks:)

BST-40 battery will cause a slight bulge right in the area of the M2 card. Be wary that the right upper latch may keep on pry open due to the slightly larger battery size. It's best to keep the phone in a case so the back cover doesn't just open up. It's easier with a silicon or crystal case which offers access to the 2 latch switches.

The w902 is the successor to the w890. You can buy the 8gb M2 card for the w890 so capacity isn't an issue. The keypad is slightly smaller on the w890. The main difference is the upgraded camera. If you already have a (digital) camera, stick with the w890 and save some money.

Note to any US T-Mobile users: According to various T-Mobile USA phone and tech support reps, 3G service is NOT available since T-Mobile USA's 3G network runs on UMTS 1700/1900 NOT UMTS 2100 which this phone and other SE phones operate on to get 3G! There are no current plans to extend the frequency range since the 3G network has started to roll out across the USA using only the 1700/1900 frequencies. Just have to stick with GSM with T-Mobile USA or get a phone that will use UMTS 1700/1900 for their 3G service!

Contact ATT to send your phone the settings via text. Open the attachment in the text and it'll automatically update the settings for you. T-Mobile USA does this. Not sure if ATT USA does it!

I bought an unlocked W890i for use with my AT&T wireless account. Can anyone tell me what settings, etc. to enter to get full usage of the AT&T network, e.g., internet, etc.? Yes, the w890i keys are small especially for those who have big fingers, like me. It's good for dialing but Terrible for texting! Many people here and other online forums have noted this also! The media control dialpad above the keypad is also TOO small especially the left and right sides. SE should have made the dialpad bigger. It's also very frustrating to use when using the media player especially when trying to use dial for Rev/Fwd. The worst part is actually when you use text mail because the keys are so small that it's easy to make mistakes in typing! Oh... one more thing... Too bad the "unlock/lock" feature requires the user to press "*" then "Unlock" keys instead of just press and hold the "*" key!

The BST-40 battery can be bought online. The battery creates a very "slight" bulge where the M2 card is inserted and is barely noticeable esp. if phone is in a case. eBay is the place where I buy my batteries. Trustworthy??? It depends. Some batteries come in "original" SE plastic containers so I think it's "authentic". Some do not. Those that don't, I generally avoid buying from seller in the future. Most batteries are sold from dealers in Asia. The battery cost depends on the seller. Usually I can pick on up for about $10-15 USD on eBay. If you buy from SE directly, it's lists about ~$65 USD. I've used the media player a couple of times but use the phone primarily as.. a phone. Keep it on for ~7-10 days, literally, between charges. Now, when using the media player (~2 hours/day), I still get about ~5-6 days of life which is still very good =:) Keep in mind that I cycle my battery, also. I wouldn't mind switching over to 3G (just to try it) IF it was available by T-mobile in States but it's Not (yet) and no need for it! Rather keep it on Edge to conserve battery life anyway and the reception is good. Don't have any issues with the Edge network in US since I'm primarily using it for phone calls. Only reason to switch to 3G is to use internet (which I don't so don't care).

"E" means "Edge" network as in "GSM" only. In the States, 3G or HSDPA isn't readily available in certain parts of the country but Edge is. T-Mobile is rolling out 3G in certain parts of the States. ATT has a bigger 3G service area but is still limited to mainly bigger cities. Shutting off 3G will save on battery life! Using GSM network here in States and using larger capacity BST-40 battery and getting about 7-10 days of battery life before recharging =:)

Your battery lasts ~2 days?! Check you connection as you probably have 3G turned on. If you don't need it, turn it off! This is usually the main culprit!! Also, upgrade the battery to BST-40 which is a larger capacity version over the BST-33. You might also try updating the phone's firmware but try the first two suggestions first.

I 've tried this three times from SE update service. Maybe there is no new firmware for Greek W890 VFLive handsets. It says every time that I already have the last update and only allows to re-install it. I'm very dissapointed now :(( but thank you for your help... ;)

Upgrade your firmware from SEUS (Sony Ericsson Update Service) download it from SE website and follow the instructions from there i upgraded my phone and its on Orange.. trust me just let me know once youv upgraded youl see the difference;)

I've had my phone for two months now and I love that I've been able to stop carrying an iPod around to listen to music. Definitely have to use the headphones since the speaker is worse than my old Nokia 6330. That's too bad, since ringtones and message tones don't sound so clear. What I'm most disappointed about is the software for managing music, especially podcasts. It's really annoying to have to delete files from my computer, and then when I plug in the phone, there's no option to sync. Instead I must manually delete the same files I just deleted on the computer. It can't compare AT ALL to iTunes, and the transfer rate to the phone is SLOOOOW. Anyway, for looks and slim factor, I'm very happy with it.

Pal, its definetly w890i which you gota have. Its better in every thing. I didn't test the 5610. But from my experince with the nokia's. They have a low sound quality. About the design and style you can definetely see the diffrence. All the mobile phones' ads & pics present the phones in a wonderful way. When you buy it you find it less. Well in the sonyericsson its the same. The diffrence is when you have it you find it more.

The w610i is a far better MUSIC phone, i own both and i will tell you why as a music phone, the little w610i is way better even though the w890i is better equiped and a better phone in general: 1) Thw w890i shows some lack of audio quality - when increasing or decreasing the volume you get a very faint click/creack sound each ime you press the button. Sonething you would expect from a cheap chinese MP3 Player. You dont get this on a w610i. Sound quality itself is good on bot phones during playback. 2) the speaker is louder and clearer on the w610i. Because the w890i is so slim, it was always going to have trouble coz they can only put in a small speaker. 3)This is the biggest issue for me - the interface and ergonomics. With the w610i, the walkman key is on the face and then there is a play/stop key on the right side - this makes all the difference to your experience. Let me explain: when you play music or radio, you can press that button and it will switch off the music or fm without having to open the radio or walkman interface at all. You press it again and it resumes whatever you were listening to last, in the background (you dont have to re-launch the application). If it was an mp3, it will resume the previous track at the position u left it - if it was fm, it goes back to the same station. The w890i CANNOT do this. The walkman key is on the side so there is no play/stop key except that middle one whch is also a softkey so has its own duties. With w890i, if you are playing a track you have to launch the walkman to pause the track, and olny then put it in the background. If you want the music back, launch the player again. You cant even use the call release key (red button) to kill the music if its playing in the background. Another huge problem i encountered. I launch walkman and when i want to select an album it takes me to the media centre interface. Then i select the music and start playing through the walkman, but if i want to go to stand by screen i have to go to options and minimize the player. If i press the walkman key again it takes me BACK to the media centre - now if i have just selected and played the track the track i want, WHY on earth would i want to be taken back to the media centre? Remember i did not lauch the media centre, the walkman player "forced" me to go there to get my song. If i try the call release key to take me back to stand by, it kills the music!!!! So i have to fiddle around navigating backward from the media centre to get back to stand by, or go to options to minimize it. The other phone handles this far better - With w610 if i launch walkman with the walkman key, i can select my track and play it and then when i press the walkman key again, it takes me back to wherever i was when i initially launched the walkman. The last walkmans to have the dedicated play/stop on the side were w610i and w660i. o if u really want 3g and video call, w660i is worth a look. Its basically a 3g w610i minus auto focus and LED light. w890i is still a great fone - the problems shouldnt trouble you too much - they only trouble me because i had been using a w610i before my w890i. But i do love the slim design, gorgeous display and metal body plus HSDPA of my w890i. And it is still the only sony ericsson wiht the full GPRS, EDGE, 3G, HSDPA combo! Frget i mentioned the w880i. Lacking fm radio is just silly - makes track ID function REALLY pointless!

Just get the settings for your picture msg on the o2 website. ­ this should then send them down to your phone (like a text almost) and its free. plus will allow u to go online via your phone (not recommended unless u have a web bolt on) once these settings are sent down to ya phone just save them and turn ya phone on and off and hopfully ya shud be up and running again =~) hope this helps. char

this phone is just so hoooooot!!!!! there's just one thing that i dont like about this fone and so as other SE. it doesn't have lock (security) for ur messages. but overall i just love this phone. Excellent points there! I actually have a V8 and those features are quite useful. However, and with the exception of the frequent missed calls/messages reminder, SE has those features but only in their smartphones/UIQ devices. Otherwise, I can't complain much about my W890i.

I also have W610 and W890. W610 is a wwwwwwonderfull music phone, I don't like only the average camera resolution (170X220). Besides that, W890 lacks only in voice. one thing irks me about SE, as much as i love them. They have forgotten the basic telephony conveniences. Tese are the issues i have with my w890i, were also present on my w610i: a) 30 items in call record, thats just pathetic! b) does not record call duration in call records - is it really that hard? Motorola can do it (so it must be easy) c)no decent notification of missed events - again Moto give you a beep every few minutes if u have a missed call or message that you havent checked Somebody PLEASE wake up at SE - Remember this is a FONE first and foremost - give us nice FONE convenience please. Hi Richard, Snap I am actually on my 5th handset, so finally giving it up as a bad job.. The problems have been no H symbol displayed, 2) phone kept knocking itself on and off. 3) speaker problems, sound distorted after I took the antenna out. And I finally get one that seems to do the job, but can't send or receive picture messages .I'm with o2 by the way,It seems the settings aren't on the phone, no updated software as yet, so I'm getting the new w980. so what is your experience so far.

i got this phone for my bithday in April !! its a great phone the camera is amazing and has very good memory. its as slim as a CD case so could break easily but it wont if yu look after it. i have dropped mine many times and still not at all damaged just a little scratched and marked. I'm really after the G900 but i'm waiting for the price to be realistic first - this fone was gonna tide me over till christmas but i may have to go back to my trusty w610 - and use this one as a battery donor since both use BST-33

i believe that from the option that you mentioned, c702 is the best choice. i already tried the w890. the music is good but the camera sucks... its a bit blurry for me for not having an autofocus and flash. g700 looks nice but featurewise, c702 rocks. hope this helps {^^,}

There are reports that SE is having lots of problems with their phones when they're initially released. Apparantly, SE has a problem with Quality control and many of their phones' firmware is VERY BUGGY! This would probably help explain one reason why SE has dropped to No. 5 in the rankings behind the other phone manufacturers!

it will really affect your battery as it will constantly try to search for a 3g signal..this is what happened yrs ago when i got 6630 and battery was awful till i was told about 3g searching taking a big hit on the battery if no 3g network is available OR signal of 3g is patchy which it was back then...There is no need to activate 3g on your fone if thee is no signal for even the simple reason that there is no point

Mohamed, to turn off (disbale) 3G go to: settings->conectivity->mobile networks->gsm/3g networks. now choose GSM only instead of GSM and 3G but why do you want to disable 3G? i see no disadvantages in having 3G as well. just the option to accept/create video calls. the power consuption is not bigger as far as i have seen.

Had a similar experience with my other phone, P1i. You will need to bring it back to your phone dealer or send to SE for repair. SE found out it was the firmware!

thanx dani,,i have been into voda and they have a k750i in silver but it wont accept 8gb micro its sonys micro 2 by the way i have not micro sd sorry i should have wrote it betterr but the k770i fits the bill perfect its all k750i with more pixels in screen and good battery..the cam is 3mp but that does not matter i always say that the best fotos ive taken come from w900i and k750i years back and they are 2mp.. I have spent 6hours on se forums last night/early morning and the w800i which people are still using and w810i seem top mobiles to this day and they are modding them etc and would not give up the fone unless something comes along to better it..I dont know if you watch bbc clicj but a few weeks ago they had a video done by w810i to video an old platform game and it was possible cause the w810i had pause video said presenter...Altho ive had n6630/6680 n73 n95 n958gb and n82 you cannot beat a small slim fone in your pocket with goo battery and does nearly all the things a smarfone can do but as ive said on many posts symbian does still not have a stopwatch/timer which i do use but s/e does as standard

my w880i did the same thing. woke up one morning and it didnt go on. and it didnt wanna charge either. the red light under the keys didnt even flicker to show any hope. with that in mind i sent it in and now im waiting for my replacement phone.yes,they do replace it. as long as its still under warrantee

W810i is the Phone of all Phones of SE its the King.. it is Walkman + Cyber-Shot in 1 Phone Honestly..i have a W810i to and its Camera Quality is as Good as K800i and K850i !! yeah its a 2MP but its just like a Cyber-Shot!! Performs the same, feels the same, Quality is the same and since its a Walkman its Rocks!!! and yes it will work with 8GB !! iv tried it and it did work.. I reccomend you the W810i, its Perfection!

dani,,which s/e fone are using please...I have spent weeks going round and round and round theses se fones and want auto-focus so this fone is out but k and c phones have a good player in them plus c702 has qvga @ 30fps ...I had k850 and could not get on with it after 3 repairs so sold it but still have 8gb micro card and c702 seems only one at moment at reasonable price on voda prepay,, not wanting c902...I am waiting for xperia to launch but want a se to put me on till then,,,se just wont put walkman and cybershot together and up video record (until xperia)and are a damn pain and losing sales fast...DANI have you had k770 does it have signal and battery probs??I would just get k800i but that will defo not take 8gb card.. The price for the SE W890i is dropping. Some stores in US is selling for ~$320 USD but expect it to drop further by year's end. It's a good phone though not terrific (if you read the old posts) but it does what it was designed for, a Walkman player built into a cell phone. I'm satisfied with my W890i phone!

Are you aware this is a walkman phone? I don't think you are so i will explain it for you. A walkman phone is a phone made by SE for music, that means that this W890 (Guess what the "W" stands for) is made for music. It is NOT a camera phone! If you want a camera phone why don't you pick a phone made for that purpose? And actually the camera on this phone is really good. Compared to other music phones its one of the best.

I got the phone yesterday And guess what I found a feature in it that I never expected. And I like most. That is "My Location". Which allow you to locate your place on the map within about 1700 m using network towers. Too big I guess but for me it�s so cool. The phone other features are great. And about the "Sense Me" it�s great. Sure it takes some time to get it working but when you do upload all your music files once. You would really enjoy it. I was afraid it would be too light and uncomfortable slim. But it is great. I knew theoretically before I bought it that it feature a display like the N95 but smaller in size. I was amazed by its very high resolution. So you even won't consider or prefer a wider display as long as it has the same resolution. If I continued to talk I would take away from you the joy of experiencing it. So go ahead and experience it for yourself.

Do you own the phone or just listing your opinion based on the specs? Yes, the W series does not have good cameras but it's a "Walkman" phone so it's meant for Music NOT photos, which is meant for the K/C series! It would be nice if SE would finally listen to people and ADD the autofocus and flash but they probably won't (at least in the neaer future). Still, the camera is isn't bad except that it's meant ONLY for daytime shots and close-up shots!

Ok, had the phone for a day now and I really do like it. It sure is small and I am having a right giggle trying to text because the buttons are so bloody close that I seem to be writing in russian or something.LOL.. I will agree that the sound from the speakers certainly isn't the loudest and I reckon that when I receive a call from somebody whilst I'm out I will struggle to hear it BUT that's why we have vibrate isn't it?. Anyway, in short. The phone feels solid, love the way the battery cover locks into place, typicla easy to use sony ericsson which I'm sure I'm going to grow to love very much. However I will be getting myself a silicone cover because I'm very concerned that the silver on the buttons could soon disappear because of having to use nails when texting. Time will tell I guess.. About the charger, I have had experinced the same problem with the same type of jack that's on w890 in my k510. The problem was when you connect the charger it doesn't charge or it repeat the charging visual and sound notification. The answer was simple clean the bright copper jack with a tissue. Its propably dust. And try rubbing your hand againist the charger pointed copper pins. So you could be sure that the pins tips are clean as well as the copper jack that contacts it. I had this problem after a year of having the mobile. Taking into consideration that I usually plug the phone in the charger as soon as I can. Weither its battery needs or doesn't.

XD Anyways, in reply to that battery problem, its because the battery isnt placed firmly enough in the Phone, its a common thing with SE phones, but not a hassle. Just take the battery out, shake it up a bit hard, then put it back in firmly and apply a little pressure. That and a new software update should resolve the problem. But if it still persist, do what the guy said, get a different battery model if you go some extra cash. SE rules. 890i is possibly next phone. Depending if the G900 is under 700 bucks new. XD

Used the BST-40 battery instead of the BST-33 battery that came with the phone and the phone life is now ~10-12 days without a recharge! OK... just using the phone and rarely the music player but that's damn good life for a phone! So if using the media player drains faster, the BST-40 battery, used in the P1i, is the best choice for anyone who'd like usage of the phone!

In my N81 I use different earphones to the ones that came with my phone, they were pretty expensive so the sound was better in the N81, but that may not be fair cause I didn't use them in the W890

Sorry Pals I changed my mind. I guess I am in love with sony ericsson. I was facinated at first. But then I found its fake. First Lets see the GPS its not supported in most of the areas in my country. Its no use for me. The 5 MP only differs in the name "Oh I have a 5 MP cam" it doesn't differ alot. The Xenon flash, most of the shots are taken ethier in day light or in places where there is light its rarely needed. Its only use is to consume the battery. Comparing pics from both SE and Nokia in day light, SE is better. Its VGA is slightly better than the QVGA of sony ericsson. Motion sensor, slightly bigger screen, Office viewer makes it even when compared to sony ericsson's small size. With the extra cash that I would pay for the wifi I would get a convienet data plan for internet instead of wifi. After all I am not a heavy mobile wap user. All I want is some connection. So over all they are even. But then comes The Sony Ericsson with its nice buttons, great shape, crisp sound and nice interface. So I choose Sony Ericssooooooooon. By the way Dani I am from Egypt.

I had a total crush on Sony Ericsson. But in the shops I found that mobiles like N82 only cost more 50 euros for alot more functions 5 MP cam, VGA 30fps, wifi, GPS. Of course sony ericsson had the sound and the external design. But we had to admit Nokia had the camera and few other things. The N82 is ugly I admit. I am even thinking of how would I carry such an ugly thing in my hands but comparing spec. I guess its way better than SE W890 or any other SE camera.

The sound of the W890 really isn't "crisp" I tested it against an N81, expecting it to be alot better and louder, but reality is it wasn't. The only SE's I have ever used were the W890 and W880, both walkman phones that really didn't perform. The N81 music wise completely owns the W890. I think before anyone claims to know a phone is the best they should at least compare it with another phone.

Finally bought a pair of the SE HBH-DS220 Bluetooth headset and paired it with the W890i. Got it from eBay and it appears "authentic". Even has a serial number but don't know how to check the "authenticity" but it works! The charger plug stays firmly attached while charging and the connection works, though getting the phone to recognize it at first took awhile but eventually it found the device! It's not bad but not terrific either. The volume is adjusted by holding the play/stop button until the desired volume is found. Unfortunately, the headset is very basic but still overpriced since it does NOT have either a forward/backward button or the ability to adjust thru various playlists or show what songs on the LED screen on the Bluetooth adapter. Even the adapter's manual states that the user must use the phone's controls to control the media player settings/controls! Let's hope SE will smarten up and actually build a Useful Bluetooth headset so that the remote can actually control the media player! [Oh, right, it's the HPM-82, which I also bought and waiting for it to arrive! It's not Bluetooth but at least it won't suck up the phone's battery life. I'll review it later when I get it]. Anyway... The HBH-DS220 is primarily meant for users who want a "basic" wireless (i.e. handsfree) Bluetooth device to listen to the media player and answer calls. Nothing fancy! A very good feature that's included in the adpater is a 3.5mm port. I'm using my Shure E4 earphones which is MUCH better than the stock HPM-70 earphones included. The device works well with my earphones that I literally have the volume set to ZERO since it's that "loud" when using the phone's media player! I did notice one thing: The phone/media player is rather "slow" in that it pauses for ~1-3 secs. when it shuffles between songs! Even the phone's controls have a slight pause! I'm assuming this is due to the Bluetooth feature and that it sucks up the battery life from both the adapter and phone as well as uses the phone's processor, hence the slowdown. Has anyone used te HBH-DS220 with the W890i? If so, what's your experience with the headset with the phone?? What's the battery life on the device as it's not stated in the manual or SE website? thats just you used to the N95 Stereo Speakers in N95 are only there for Movies, nobody would use it for Music blasting i own a W810i, i would say the Sound Quality is Good im not fussed about 3.5mm jack built in or not all i can ask for in a Music Phone is Good Quality earphones in the retail package! Walkman Phones more then do that, they come with In-Ear Headphones which are just as good as Sennheiser which costs �30 in shops which would have to be bought if you had a N95 to plug in your favourite 3.5mm jack i always wonder why Nokia dont supply good earphones with the retail package?!? i think thats why they put 3.5mm jack in their phones... SE supplys good earphones even with their Cyber-Shot phones...!

it is time to face the facts! this phone is the most amazing phone i have seen! (and i have seen some amazing phones) the sound quality is GREAT especially with the MegaBass app. the device is super slim and compact. the design is almost all metal with clean lines. the looks is great. great support of 8GB card which makes it a great music device. great support of stereo bluetooth. (i am using it with two different headphones) great screen. great photo viewer and file manager. great themes and theme creator. great battary life (especially for the size of the phone). only downsides are: small keys. if this phone was full touch screen the screen was much bigger and so were the keys. SE next W phone should be full touch and would totally kill the rivals. hopefully. so far this one has no competition.

The radio needs the Wired headphones since it acts as the antenna (which is stated in the user's guide). The bluetooth headset adapter would work with the media player but not necessarily the radio.

Yes, shutting off 3G would help conserve battery life but adding the higher capacity BST-40 battery would also extend the usage time of the phone as well =:) The extended battery would really help if you need to use 3G especially if 3G provides better reception in your area, if available.

3.5G would be nice but only if it's available in your area. If you're living in the States, forget it! Att/Cingular is the only one that has it BUT it's available ONLY in certain parts of the country! That said... a 3.5mm port would be better since it's a Walkman phone but I understand the need for the adapter so people can use that to answer calls then go back to the music. Why not include the 3.5mm port and include a MIC adapter for calls?? That'll fix the issue!

Yes, the W890i accepts BST-40 battery used in the P1i. The higher capacity battery does give the phone a longer life. It does bulge very slightly near the M2 port but, really, it's not noticeable especially if the phone is in a case!

Symbian ----Useless? What a shame, you don't even know what are you talking.... I myself proved it that symbain is very useful, my phone is 5700XM and it don't have ngage flatform like the latest version nokia have... but because it is a fast symbian phone i even managed to hacked my fone to install the ngage and NOW i'm playing a lots of ngage games on my phone and guess what I don't need to use my joystick to play a game.. i can remap my keys in every single application i have...... see how symbian is flexible

Yes nokia and samsung put all that stuff in there phone and stuff there phones so full of futures thats why they give so much problems there sowtfare cant handle it SE doesnt stuff there phones to full thats why there are so few SE that gives problems

well said anonymous. why have all the top brands moved onto 3.5mm jacks yet SE are stuck with their 1835672496246 pin connector. maybe people want 3.5mm jacks... and hey, if you want a headset with your nokia, they give you one free, but you dont HAVE to use it, its just optional. and stop using the headphone argument, yes the ones in the nokia box suck but anyone who cares about music has their own headphones anyway. and btw symbian is superb. hardly useless. the standard music player on a nokia is simple but very effective. and yeah walkmans look better but phones spend 98% of their lives in your pocket so who cares, plus it's a music phone. xpressmuisc phones put music as a priority, not gaining as much money on their phones by removing decent audio hardware like SE. sound quality on walkmans is VERY medicore

Symbian useless? LMAO! Thats cute. Its actualy VERY useful, your lil java cant even play high quality avi, flv, divx etc. . . Audio chip- it has proven to be better: the NOKIA N91, N81 , SAMSUNG i450, Serenta, MOTO Z10 etc. . .all have audio chips and all put the WALKMANs to shame. 3.5mm jack- extremely useful thats why ALL the best multimedia devices made by SAMSUNG, NOKIA, MOTOROLA, LG, APPLE, BB etc. . .have it. The SE standard headphone port sux, and fails after some time of use and is generaly un-user friendly. You're defending something thats not worth defending. Looks are personal.

i wouldnt say XpressMusic phones were made for Music either... Symbian?, Audio Chip?, 3.5mm jack? Symbian - useless Audio Chip - SE dont need it, there sound it already Good 3.5mm jack - its got it in the headset and WALKMAN Phones look good to!, the W890i looks sexy and slim! 5310 looks like a spongy toy haha it sucks

even a non nokia ngage phones can play ngage game... i knew your phone supports it. i'm very happy that my phone now is a music and gaming phone... thanks for the great people there in 5700 forum
