its annoying to read coments from ppl who see this phone gabrage cuz it has no functions. this is not type of phone that is suppost to have some. if they put 5mpx camera it is not luxury its crap cuz there is n8,nokia 808 who destroy all others. I have htc one x and for me it has crap camera,so i carry n8 which has very good quality camera with xenon flash. I have 3sim card,so carry one more phone nokia 8800 series,sapharine.i had almost every 8xxx series including 2 8600luna at same time when it was top phone,sooo good looking but paint from metal back is falling off so easly. thats crap for phone that cost almost 1500 us $ in my country. i want to say,thats more expesnive phone then htc one x and nokia n8 together but is so luxury filling,and good looking.and I dont wanna mp3player, i dont wanna mid range camera,i dont wanna big lcd. i just wanna best design, and best quality material made from. i'd allways love my 8910 titan,8800 black and white screen its so luxury and good looking theese days also. after that newer series had color lcd with no so many collors,not so good ppi lcd,and nowdays lcd and functions look like crap. Sony-Ericsson created a duel for LG's transparent-keypad phone, but in a ugly twist. Practically, the only part that should not be interrupted is the view of mobile phone's screen. Sony-Ericsson should created a phone that's all-transparent and the LCD screen is viewable. Take it leave it. Better buy the upcoming Lenovo S800 or better buy something else.

After living with and using a Pureness for about a year, now, I have to say that I'm still in love with it. I normally buy and replace my phone with the latest and greatest every three to four months. It's a stupid and expensive habit, but I stumbled onto the Pureness last April and I haven't really wanted anything since. Well, OK, I have, but when it comes time to check-out/buy I just say, "Would I really want to use this over the Pureness?" Honestly, I know this phone isn't for everyone, but I love it. It has amazing battery life. I can easily go a full week on a single charge. It syncs beautifully with Outlook and effortlessly thanks to Sony's PC Suite. Its keyboard has "broken-in" a bit over the year and also lost a lot of its squeaky-quality. It still isn't the best keypad, but it is working nicely. It still looks fantastic. I've not used any sort of screen protector or case, and it still looks flawless a year later. People still respond to it with awe... Though, the two top things I hear from my tech-minded friends are 1.) That's so cool! 2.) It's kind of feminine, though. It is... I won't lie, but I love the device. It cost me $400 a year ago and I've bought nothing since. For a phone to keep my attention this long, and keep my money in my wallet, says a lot to me. I think the only thing that could take its place is the Lenovo S800 or the rumored Pureness2.

I also have a 8800 Sapphire Arte and Nokia 8600 Luna! the fone is a very attractive thing compared to what u c in d pics! infact many people turned and were staring when i was using it! I agree that the Arte and Luna are better in features but this is a class apart fone!N it is only for SHOWING OFF!!! Which d fone does amazingly well! So i would give it a 9/10 rating! Only flaws: 1-heats up behind 2-no camera 3-should have been a bit more in looks! coz it looks like a W350 without the flap!

I get nothing but compliments when people see the phone. Most are transfixed by it. It definitely looks better in person and has a very minimalist-futuristic look to it that people respond well to. The way the light illuminates the sides of the glass giving it a soft-white glow at night, and of course the transparent screen just capture so much attention. Again and again people have to ask me, "What is that?" then follow it up with, "That's so cool..." I love it. It's not a me-too device, and it isn't the perfect phone, but it really does have character and charm all its own.

It's actually just white (monochrome). There is no black, just white and nothingness. It actually looks amazing in sunlight, and is completely clear as can be. Indoors and in the medium light of a room, it can be near impossible to see without moving it to a brighter or darker backdrop. If I move it in front of a window, or the TV, though, it looks fantastic.

On the flip-side to that, the segment that this is for expects high quality (but will tolerate quirks). For one, the keys should have been of higher quality (and perhaps being touch-sensitive would have improved the build and feel). The various light-leaks should have been tightened up. The phone bleeds light from the sides and between keys. I will also admit, though, the fast/pop-port is completely unacceptable. At the very least it should have had micro-usb and standard headphone jack. I think the idea is a complete winner, but the execution wasn't quite there. I don't care about the price, though I admit that it is hard to warrant it due to the build quality alone. With it sitting comfortably in the lower $500s now, it is coming down remarkably fast. It may turn out to be a complete flop for SE, but I still give them credit for trying something completely off the wall and different.

It's around $850 USD. I have no idea where you are getting your prices from. Amazon has it listed for $869 at the moment with plenty in stock. Sure, $850 will buy you a lot of phone, but it's not like this is completely out there in price. It is a unique handset with a few eye catching design choices. The phone itself is definitely under-par, but that's not why people will buy it. I definitely find it intriguing. Not enough that I'd drop $850 on it (or even a few hundred as there is just too much out there I think that does the wow-factor a lot better, like the LG GD910), but I would love to see one in person one day. Too each their own... I wouldn't knock it if someone bought it...

I was shown this phone in a shop in Stockholm, Sweden. It was... Mindblowing at first. :) Sure, it's a phone that lacks alot of the technical stuff... But hey, look at the iphone... It was 5 years behind everyone else and people still bought it. :P Seeing your hand through the display was cool, it was responsive and fast as most of the proprietary SE-OS phones... Only reason I'm not getting one is because I really HATE the proprietary SE-connector cable... If this was Mini-USB I would have gotten one...

Unfortunatly this is not a scratch resistant phone at all! If it gets marked on the screen, it will light up in white due to the screen lights. Which makes it even more visible. Other than that this phone is really great, even with the little funcionality, but if you want a phone, and only a phone, this will be it!

Get Real guys, forget about high end features. This is a luxury item, not a mobile phone. The Concierge Service that comes with it proves that. But knowing Sony Ericsson regular feature phone, I think buyers of Pureness will have to spend a lot of time with these services. But there is something Sony Ericsson will gain. They can use the feedback to better improve their feature phones and be a better competition to Nokia's S40. So as it turn's out, buy the Pureness and be a "Beta Tester" to improve Sony Ericsson phones although with better service facilities.

Showing off :D Sure there are now many phones out there with touch screens, full screen web browsing, multimedia playback etc. But how many phones out there have a transparent screen? Completely useless? yes, but that's the point. Why else have a browser on a monochrome screen. In a world where everyone seems to have an iPhone or something similar, this phone will stand out more than any app you download. Let's not forget, Nokia have been selling fashion phones with limited features at extreme prices for years now (I know cause I own 3 of them, I'm a sucker for anything different :P)

Somebody please tell me this phone is actually just a joke by Sony. Only one HSDPA band, a 1.8in monochrome display with 176x220 resolution, no wifi, no camera, and only 3 hours talk time on 3G? Pureness. Pure sh** I mean, I'm a fan of ultra-expensive, ultra-impractical phones, but I don't see the beauty in this one. Are the designers of this phone utterly blind? The Sirocco series of Nokia is a far, far, lightyears-far cry from this plastic brick. Damn, it doesn't even sport a flashlight. (Oh yeah, I forgot, it isn't one of those low-end phones by Nokia. But it sure looks like one.)

I like this phone though if the screen's visibility is very good..and it's not expensive. Another problem with this phone is that the keypad backlight just leak through the seam between the lines of the keys, which makes this "beautifully designed" phone rather cheap looking, causing quite a disappointment. Check out the unboxing videos of XPERIA PURENESS in youtube. The visibility of the screen is so poor in lighting condition that you basically can't see nothing. You really have to use your eyes muscles so hard that eventually your eyes become too tired to look at transparent screen, not to mentioned to read the small text in the small 1.8 inch sreen. So that's why for those people without wearing glasse, they will have to get a pair of glasses eventually, if they have this phone. For those who's already wearing a glasses, pray to god that you have to change your glasses every 2 to 3 months, if again you have this Xperia Pureness. So u get it why Sony Ericsson call it PURENESS now? It's because the main purpose of this phone is PURELY

Yep, any faults that cannot be repaired in 48 hrs. Handset gets replaced with a brand new one. All part of the Xperia concierge service. Same goes for X2 as well.

Not only the best looking phone ive ever seen - Think of the concierge service, - thats why its a little pricey! But for a concierge service thats well worth the money. Its worth it for the concierge service alone. I have just pre-orderd two. :-) I think I will give one to my son. Xmas and all that.

It seems that this phone is out as an ultra high cost phone so that they can recover the development cost of their proprietry head phone cum charging port. Cause this port will have minimal use : no music play back for lack of memory, no charging battery often for no TFT display or multimedia capability, camera, JAVA. So people who uses their phone for show off only should buy it.

This phone has the same specifications as the upcoming Nokia 1280, which will cost US $25. But the 1280 has a 3.5mm audio jack, and this SE does not have it. Therefore the 1280 is superior. Sony should concentrate to put 3.5mm audio jacks on their phones rather than wasting time on trying to compete against Vertu. By the way the 1280 is also the better looking phone of the two.
