One of the best phones I've ever had. Though it has low specifications (even on its release date), it exceeded its value through sheer durability. This phone should have an IP rating in its specifications. I just installed a custom ROM and it is still usable and relevant in 2018, played Pokemon Go with it and other games. I wish phones these days are built to be durable not just to be good in paper. Sony Xperia M is a hella of a phone. Best Buy.

Been using this since 2014. Still works like a charm. The original battery died last year and I had to get a replacement battery from Amazon (which does not have a very good back-up). The phone itself is built well. Perfect size and great speakers!

update: wow, this phone is really good, I insert a 16gb sd card and install ~80 apps without lag. I still use this one for browsing, listening to music, playing doodle jump since it's compact and show off my friends how small my phone is. It feels kinda special :)

i bought it in 2014, and used for 2 or 2 and a half years. Good phone, worked perfectly. The only thing that i dont like is: internal memory low, and applications cannot be moved on external flash card. (without hacking). So if you installed 4 or 5 applications, there is no more room for others. :) The rest was good (very good) for its price.

currently running custom android 7.1.2 resurrection remix on this bad boy: - standby battery time is very good, just nearly as good as the stock firmware(4.1). - onscreen battery time, not really good, especially with heavy usage - smooth IO, I also use "pico open gapps" so ggplay-related things are lighter! - don't know if using a custom rom will prevent "decrypt password" things, PLS, ANYONE COULD CONFIRM THIS? p/s: This is my secondary phone, I bought it back from an owner for $24 to practice rooting, UB, up rom, etc. In 2018, it is recommended that you should not use a phone like this, it is kinda slow on the daily basis.

Rom memory might be corrupted. If you have a micro sd in it, eject it and see whats happens. If you don't have a micro sd. Use Pc Companion reset or flash its system.

Hi guys i bought this phone(Sony Xperia M C1904) in Oct 2013 ,i love sony phones, quality and design . Been using this phone since 2013 without any problems, but yesterday (13.01.18) i faced a peculiar problem . The phone wants me to "Type password to decrypt storage" this screen came out of the blue :( with an emergency call button and a ticking sound every few seconds which makes me nervous.I am unable to do anything else i am stuck with this screen. I cant access my data/contacts/messages etc. I don't know what to do. Is it a virus or a problem in the phone chipset? It was working perfectly upto now. Do any of you guys know the password or any other solution ? Any advice / solution is greatly appreciated .

the phone is still good at common tasks but taking picture or filming. I had to reinstall the software several times during these 4 years but I haven't changed anything related to hardware. The battery is ok up to now.

I'm also getting the 'password needed to decrypt storage' message. Sony Support's answer was to suggest I buy another phone, even though this one is less that 3 years old. I'll probably take that advice, but it won't be another Sony! Appalling customer service. If this was a ploy via a software upgrade to get customers to buy new phones, it looks like it's going to misfire, big time.

you can uninstall application,games if you not in use, you can empty the internal storage memory, you can clear the cache data from setting>storage>clear cache, & go to settings>about phone & create developer options in setting & you can windows animation scale select off, and also stop the application if you are do not in use then your mobile is very fast & quick to action

It is very laggy. I have this phone for 3 years, and it is more and more laggy and buggy. I have restored it to factory defaults several months ago, and it did not help. Probably all the updates slow this phone down. And the capacity of memory storage is very small. It was soft of OK 3 years ago, but now in year 2017, I would not recommend it.

The Xperia M is a good phone, better for work than gaming and souch, but still it's a good phone, I had it for about two and a half years, but it lasted longer than the htc desire 620 I got a year after using the Xperia M, and the htc desire is dead, personally the Xperia is better, because it lasted so many hits and falls, and the memory isn't that bad.

The memory is shocking, always full and asking you to get rid of apps / data etc. Also after a year of ownership my wife and I are both having charging issues. Had this phone for about a year after which it started asking for "type password to decrypt" error during bootup. Tried every solution that's humanly possible available on the internet. It never recovers. It appears the unit uses bad memory and it fails after an year or so. I used to be a fan of Sony. Bought two Sony LCD TV's. Both of them had problems immediately after the guarantee period. One TV had a damaged inverter and another TV started developing lines along the LCD panel.' From all my three experiences above, I decided that I'll not buy a Sony product again. It's as if they design devices and put some self destruction timer in it. But after this, I'll never buy a Sony product again

This was a great little phone. Only major shortcoming was the 4GB storage (2GB for apps) which eventually got filled just with newer version of stock apps leaving very little for anything else. If it had 8GB instead and 4.4+ update I would probably still be using it.

You using unofficial Lollipop, Marshmallow and any others software version, coz official Xperia M will not get any of these operating systems. Unofficial versions is created by developers and ect. So Sony don't support it :)

using this phone since past 3yrs...rooted and running android 5.1.1 (2nd device after Google pixel to get marshmallow cm) tried mm too..increased internal memory to 4gigs .... working perfect. just need to make nandroid backup or must know how to flash ftf original firmware and n case of bricking the device through computer then bamm it'll go forever. no worries of software problem eg bootloops etc. etc etc........

My phone has the same message and after two days chatting with Sony and installing Experia Companion I was told that it could not be done as Experia Companion does not support this model. They asked me to send the phone to them for repair. I received a letter telling me because the phone was out of warranty and it had previously had an un-orthorised repair that nothing could be done. I am disputing this as the phone has never been in for any repairs. Still waiting for their answer.

Bought in Nov 2013. until now, so far my phone is still functioning, 1D+ standby time, 5H - 5.5H SoT (3H+ for WIFI). Well, I agree to low camera quality, and low memory + low storage, but it's still good depend on usage. Mine just used for light and mid use, not for hardcore use. Still happy than Z1Compact Docomo that has similar SoT and standby time with same use.

Razzs, beware, after 3 years of use Xperia M can die any day. I recommend you to stop using this phone or at least backup often your data. After approximately 3 years of usage my Xperia M started behaving erratically and then only "type password to decrypt storage" showed on the screen without possibility to continue. Many Xperia M users reported same thing on the net. The internal memory of the phone is corrupted and repair would probably cost more than a new budget phone. Plus it was not only problem I had with Xperia M - GPS was faulty and practically unusable on my phone from the start. I looked for solution for a long time in vain. Again, many people report same problem with GPS. There were days that Sony meant a quality but today sadly it means the opposite. And it's not only about cheaper Sony phones, read for example Xperia Z3 Compact thread here on GSMArena, it's like a horror story.

Coz you rooted it... So the same if rooted device we can say the same, but I agree with previous user - Xperia M is worst smartphone how can I see now. Wjy I bought it 4 years ago I don't know. Slow, camera worst, battery drain fast, memory in the phone is only 1.2 GB (from GB), impossible to move to SD card. Even if you rooted you still can't move to sd, need to install or 6 version operating system like you do: Unofficial 7 or 6 version (it's not official Marshmallow and Nougat version, it's created by developers team, Sony don't releasing it)... For few world it's disaster :) Now I have very good smartphone: fast 2ram, big memory 10 for user from 16 gb, with good 13 both camera and ect...

I had this phone for 3 years, last month it died and I do not regret it much. This phone has several big downsides - very low internal memory (2GB available and apps moving to SD is not possible), not much sensitive GPS (sometimes I couldn't get a fix at all outdoor) and small battery (with moderate use it often did not last even a day). Otherwise it worked quite well for a budget phone from 2013 but now there are much better budget phones.

Yes you're right.. The point is Sony has been done in software update for this device, that's why 4.3 Jellybean is last Official firmware from Sony Otherside, Android is open source OS which can modify and built by anyone. In XDA some guys been work build new Android OS for Xperia M (also dual) it been in near stable state of Marshmallow base and still beta in Nougat. That firmware is NOT official from SONY so all Sony's feature is gone only pure features from Android. So This Firmware is fake or just myth or maybe dream? Nope, this firmware is exist. The firmware is based official Android codebase (AOSP code) so all Android features has built-in .Check it in XDA forum Xperia M for more info What about warranty service from Sony? Sorry, if you use this Unofficial firmware your official warranty will void too so Sony will decline for free repair service. One of the step is void warranty (rooting, UBL and more) It writed in warranty card. Sure, this step is full of risks. You still can stay in Jellybean too but belive me, Xperia M can beyond than Jellybean...

This user lied, Xperia M official will not get Marshmallow, Jelly bean is the last and latest operating system for this model. Marshmallow you can flash only created version by developers team of Xda if i'm not wrong. But this version is not official Sony version of Marshmallow, also if you flash this version i'm afraid Sony will not give you technical support and if you have any warranty it will void it. For unofficial flash Marshmallow need root your smartphone.

But you talking about things which void your warranty if you have one, also you losing help from Sony if will be breaked your smartphone, coz Sony agents will ask you about operating system or you will talk about it yourself first... The phone was alright for about the first 5 days, two years later and i struggle to even want to pick it up to text my girlfriend, it's such a terrible phone and degrades so quickly. The phones processor overheats very quickly and causes the phone to physically be very hot to the touch, the battery life is good in standby but im literally able to watch it die as i use it for more than 5 minutes. The internal memory is garbage (2gb) so i had to buy a 30gb micro sd to even have music, you cannot transfer apps to the sd card. Both cameras are very, very bad; nothing more needs to be said about their grainy pixelated quality. The built in wifi receptor(?) is awful and im constantly losing connection in my own house. If you do not have more than 40mb of space left you cannot update apps most of the time, which is awful. One good thing is that this phone screen will not crack, ive dropped it on the floor/concrete so many times i've lost count, got drunk and yelled "you wanna see crazy?!" followed by me whipping my phone across the room and it smashing on the floor, only to have it restart and actually run better for a few hours. The led light at the bottom is sometimes brighter than the screen when you're charging it at night so that can be a bit rough on the eyes. If you have a choice between this phone and something else, do not get this phone.

Sony Xperia M is a disappointing smartphone. Internal Memory is just 2 GB, can't move apps to SD as its not allowed. Random restarts (5-6 times a day). No help or clue whatsoever on internet. Camera quality is bad,the pics i take have a shade of yellow. Super bad camera quality. Has a problem with wi-fi. Takes me 1-2 restarts to connect to wi-fi. My HTC phone that is 2 years older than my Xperia M takes great pics,can move apps to SD and doesn't restart. This is my last Sony phone.

good phone. i used it for two years. only problem was, the battery was draining fast when 3G is on. i was always using it in 2G mode when not connected to internet. i was not using the built in OS, but i installed CM12 to the device. I recommend this, if you are not using internet often.

my family n me maself is a sony user but ryt now m very much disappointed with sony xperia m....i bought it in june 2014 but now june 2016 before 2 days ma phone suddenly when i connected to usb popped up saying ENTER PASSWORD TO DECRYPT STORAGE but in ma whole evah i've nevah evah set any password or pin or pattern but dont know how come its asking for such password & as it is i was already upset with the phone because of low internal memory, battery problem with the socket....it has already visited doctor thousands of tym i wish using that money i'd hv b ought a new phone now i hv already spent more than d price of the model ..srsly i can literally write a whole essay for this phone[ how bad the phone xperia m is] really alot upset n plz whoever is thinking of buying this plz dont buy ull b in grt loss better buy some other n every peice of sony has some or the other issue for which the company itself doesnt hv any solution so how n on what basis do u even think u should buy this....n their tactic nthg happens during the guarantee waranty period but as soon as its over dozens of problems start n the hell the way u use ua money shit mahn useless really very much disappointed with the phone the last peice according to me which is good is the original sony ericssion xperia but now the version isnt compatible with the latest versions of games / apps etc..in short plz dont b uy dont even waste a sec by thinking over it a huge NO for this..,

At first the phone seems great, it's a good size, runs fast and the menus are well designed. Unfortunately very quickly you realise the internal memory is pathetic, and you can't transfer apps to sd card. The camera is very bad compared to other similar priced competitors, and there's so many useless system apps taking up space. Mine started running slow then eventually came up with an error an encrypted all my data. Can't even hard reset the damn thing... won't be buying another sony device for as long as I live..

After using it about 1 year it showed me an error that is "type password for decrypt storage". I had no idea what went wrong so I took it to the Sony service centre. I own one of these. Very inexpensive phone and worth it for the price. Good battery, camera quality... The warranty covered a small defect which came from factory and I realized later. The only thing that sucks is that Sony's warranty here in Brazil sucks. Takes forever to hand the phone back. Only lacks in processing power and multitasking. If you're looking forward buying a phone for multitasking, this is not the right choice. Kills apps in background easily. It also lacks internal memory. I had to do hacks in order to get more space, by moving the apps to the external SD card with Link2SD. Now I'm looking for a new one because it's lagging a lot. But it was worth it to use at the beginning. Good phone for basic tasks.

Average product. First drawback is that have only 4 GB internal and approx 2 GB cab be used. Second drawback which I saw with charging jack. U can charge this with only few chargers and once battery comes down 20 % it takes lot of time to charge even ^6-8 hours. Not able to charge mobile with power bank(In my case)

Second Sony phone I've purchased.. Never again. Was good for gaming, had a decent rear camera, but front facing was absolutely terrible. From new it never had any internal memory (not good enough to install over 3 social media apps). Snapchat doesn't work properly, both speakers broke, went in for repair and broke again, headphone jack broke 3 times (same as old Xperia phones). Only good note is the music player. Never ever buy sony, trust me.

I have used it for allmost 2 years i liked but i needed an upgrade from 1 GB of ram, it moves ok and it does the job but if you use more and more Apps then its gonna get slower. It's a jolly good phone with a slim designed indeed and slit into my pocket perfectly. I've been using it since January 2014 and there's NOT been a single hiccups about the phone except for the "VOL. +-" control button at the right side of the phone which does not function over-time at all whenever I need to to lower the sound of the music I'm listening to. Eventually it can be done manually on the touch screen...no hassle, pal. My daughter also loves the phone and wants it for herself if I happen to get another one for myself in later days. Jolly good day!!!

Stay away from xperia phones. They are pathetic. I had a xperia M5 which is three months old. All of a sudden one day while playing a game the display went bad. Basically the touch screen was hot and I think because of which the display got damaged. There is no damage to the touch screen. Took it to Sony Service centre and they say this could have been caused when we keep this phone in tight jeans pant pocket. I was never told while selling that this phone should not be kept in tight pockets. Now they are charging me for the display replacement.

You can only download a few essential apps like WhatsApp and Facebook then download some media and take photos. I repeatedly delete stuff from this phone, but there seems to be no space. If you think that this is okay for you, then go for it.

Well, I don't think so.. I have tried all possible mods without fail. I rooted it, used link2 SD, installed several mods, installed FOTA recovery, flashed many custom ROMs and still working on it. Try you will also succeed in modifying it.....

I would suggest you to root your phone and use root call blocker, instead of trying some call blocking app from playstore. In comparison to ordinary call blockers, RCB gives you the power of blocking it at the root level, without letting the phone to ring when a blocked contact calls you.....

Its definitely a problem related to motherboard I guess. I too faced with a similar situation earlier. I got it replaced at the service centre. Just consult regarding this at a service centre. Or else give it a try by flashing the latest firmware via flashtool if u are out of warranty.. Gud luck....

Hi there, perhaps someone can help me with this! my Sony Experia M had been working perfectly then suddenly one morning it gave the message" EJECTING SIM CARD, SWITCHING OFF" ! It then proceeded to only charge when switched off, the minute you switched it on, charging would be discontinued! I've taken the phone to be repaired, five weeks later the sim reader reader has been replaced twice, with no luck, phone still won't charge when switched on, nor will it be read or charged when connected to my computer! Hi Jack Unfortunately you've probably got the same problem as my phone had. It was within warranty, and Sony replaced it free of charge - not sure what support you get in your country, but I had an on-line chat with a Sony tech. I think it's an issue with the small internal storage meaning with very little free space, application updates wear it out quickly. Wear levelling on flash storage spreads the writes around the chips, but that's not possible when there's only 200-300MB free. I plan to keep this replacement one emptier.

LOW IMAGE QUALITY in xperia m found the reason. Been using xperia m for 2 years.As every one did ,I unlocked the boot loader after the warranty period was over for moving apps to sd card(stupid idea). Before unlocking boot loader of xperia devices please read: unlocking boot loader of xperia devices will effect the camera performance. Its written as a warning on xperia developer page.Sony only mentioned xperia z3 (don't know why)but applies to e,m&z series also. Some sort of Digital Right Management (DRM) keys included in the device will be erased when boot loader is unlocked.These keys can be backed up instructions are on xda page. Once these keys are erased there is NO NO NO way to restore them WITH OUT THE BACK UP. Factory reset,Re locking boot loader,Flashing wont get them back.

My fon(m dual) showed these prblms- unclear voice at high volume,wen on call, volume needs to b increased by.connecting leeds, wifi cud not be off ed (this causes prblm if ur wifi net connection is not there,only signals are),used to hang sometimes. But I avoided charging for long and with high amperage charger,& hanging prblm got away,I used local leeds for some time & 2nd prblm got away,for 1st they changed hard disk but no result;so lessen the volume,then it's fine &3rd wifi prblm itself got sorted. It's going to be 2 years old and now it's prblms have omitted itself or anyhow

Hope this can helpfull to you 1st, you must have a file explorer, download it from googleplay, (sony didn't give you from default) 2nd, search on your DEVICE STORAGE, usually it will taking place in Folder ANDROID/DATA or ANDROID/OBB 3rd. you must know what game/developer you were downloaded, exp. com.gameloft.android.ANMP.GloftA8HM (Asphalt 8) -- MAKE SURE DATA APP YOU WERE GOING TO DELETE, if you were wrong, then the application will be error. 4th, It's done i don't know this method will solve your problem, but for me it's work. i were doing it regularly to make my internal storage freely.

Hey there, i am using this phone for about a year. i want to give my opinion. the design were elegant, i really like the 4" smartphones, it's light and easy to operate with one hand, and nowadays it's hard to find small smartphone with good spec. let's see the problem. the problem is only camera quality and internal storage really bad, but if you are looking for camera phone, don't include this one you will be disappointed, but if you not mention the camera this phone is great, trust me. and to modify this camera quality, you can use Camera App on playstore, it will solve the problem how about the internal problem? you need to ROOT your phone, it's easy about 15 minutes and your problem were gone. install GL*SD / Link*SD with rooting this phone, i can get the Real Racing 3 (which is takes 2.5-2.7 Gigs of Storage), Asphalt 7, Asphalt 8, and Modern Combat 4. and i still have 800MB-900MB free in my internal storage. what i want to say is, if you were really like this phone you will find the way to fix it's problem, not just abandoned it and make a bad statement about it.

Good phone...But theres a common problem which occurs in almost every Xperia m..the phone gets encrypted automatically...which makes its value zero....the Sony centre says u have to change the motherboard which will cost almost 80-90% of the phones cost....this problem is been there for a long time now...but i guess Sony is not efficient enough to solve this problem.....thank you

Just installed cm12.1 android 5.1.1 and it looks great. Its stable,bug free and even lag free. It comes prerooted and app2sd. No need to install link2sd or foldermount. Overall its great.

I had using this phone since 18months. I am using the mobile mostly for entertainment like game,song,photography and use very roughly. Till the date I had not faced a single problem like hang,heating or etc. If you are playing game or using net then any device will be obviously getting hot, it is not a major issue .Every device performance will depends upon its user and operating procedure.

We had a similar fault on our Nexus 7 tablet, and it seemed to be because the flash memory physically wore out, so a board change would be the only solution. We tried to reflash, but errors all the way. Eventually hard bricked, and obviously just out of warranty.

my xperia m c1904 phone after 13 months started going to safe mode everytime it rebooted no matter what u did. So no warranty. :( Sony centre said that some internal issue and had to replace motherboard, which was freakingly expensive. Dumped it and went for Samsung Note 3 neo in Nov which is superb phone. Wud suggest oneplus one as it got cheaper. Had 1+1 had got cheaper n avaiabale in open sale, i wud have got it.

Xperia M bends really easily. Mine developed a crack of the screens inner surface (the glass and everything on the outside was in a perfect condition, everybody could see, that it was not a damage caused by a drop or something like that) just by carrying it in my pants after 9 months. A friend of mine witnessed when i put it in my pants, walked a few meters, took it out again an ... the display showed weird colors. Sony refuses to repair it, their argument is like "we never repair cracked screens, no matter why it failed, it has to be the users own fault, our products are perfect by design, must be your fault, goodbye". Their service at least in Germany is slow and really unfriendly. It took me 3 months, 20 mails and 3 calls to get an answer from Sony. I have never experienced something like this. Then again im quite happy as the speaker in this Xperia M was rubbish. I bought a LG L9 II instead, which is soooo much better. I will never buy a Sony product again (Had 3 Sony Smartphones in a row).

Applications cannot be moved, but all other data can (and generally should) be. Easiest way is to go to the Storage settings and tap the "Transfer data to SD card" option. Furthermore, in the camera app, tap the wrench icon in settings and choose "SD card" for data storage (you may need to scroll down to see this option), then any photos/videos taken will go straight there rather than clog up the very limited device storage.

I first got this phone just over a year ago from 'Phones 4U', have had no problems with it at all, I have however noticed that if you use the phone a lot, you have to keep re-charging battery, just like any other phone I guess. I do have one problem, I had difficulty in getting back off to insert a new memory card, went on internet then noticed battery was running low, so thought 'better re-charge', then discovered that the usb lead would not insert, it was then that I noticed that I had accidentally damaged the the usb socket, so therefore had to take it to shop where I had my laptop repaired to have a replacement socket fitted, must be more careful with back cover! Oh and it keeps saying 'Skype not working', have it on laptop anyway!

This phone is a good phone but doesn't worth its price, I bought this phone for my brother in Nigeria for 23,000naira. I later I bought infinix hot note x551 for myself for 23,500naira, that was when I discovered that the Xperia M is just a waste of money. The Xperia M is just 5mega pixel back camera and the infinix is 8mega pixel back camera. The Xperia m is just 4gb ROM dual core and the infinix is 16gb rom octa core, the Xperia m battery is just 1000 plus Mah and the infinix battery is 4000Mah. We all know that the infinix screen display is clearer and better than the xperia M's own.. All this multi nationals are just out there ripping people off..

Exceptional sound quality and unbeatable loudspeaker volume`(M 68.5dB with XLoud beats the Z3(66.6 dB) and Samsung S5(66.6 dB)and nearly equals the HTC One (69.3 dB)- however GSMArena volume figures are inconstant.The M2 has much higher crosstalk on headphones and is inferior. So is the higher volume but tinny sounding E1. 2.The low-res screen is perfectly ok as it is only 4" and the pixel density is a decent 245. 3. The sound quality of the Walkman music player is superb - this is one of Sony's USP. 4. The phone has a user-replaceable battery, now rarely available in Sony. 5. The phone has killer looks. Look at the GSMArena scores - 8 or above 8 on every count, equalling the S6 Edge and Z3 and LG G4 Dual and squarely beating the hyped E4g. Guys dont buy this phone in India. Am relating my experience here. So I basically bought the phone about 4 months ago, and have been having problems from day one. To start with I noticed right out of the box that the phone had trouble connecting to the network. It would randomly lose signal and then not reconnect till it was restarted. To add to this, the phone developed a crack right through the back panel entirely on its own, without having been dropped. I checked online and apparently this is endemic with this model, and is caused due to the battery overheating. Finally, it stopped working one day and when I took it to the service center, the person without even hearing me out told me that my guarantee had been voided due to the crack on the back cover. Now I realise that Sony is shutting down its cell phone business, and may be trying to cut corners a little bit, but this is ridiculous. The staff were rude, and just werent interested to hear anything. They quoted me 75% of the phone's original cost to repair it, or offered me a 30% discount on a new phone - as if anyone would be so stupid as to buy another product from them after just having been treated the way I was! Anyways, just wanted to let everyone know about my rather costly and unfortunate experience. My friends and I were truly impressed by this phone when I bought it, but I have to admit its been a huge let-down from the Sony team and I would advise strongly against purchasing it. Cheers!

I've been using it for 15 months and I want to say that I'm very satisfied with this phone. Rarely lag, smooth for running applications. The camera is awesome especially for taking outdoor pic. The weakness is just it's storage that is only 4GB and 2GB free left for user installing additional applications. But for it's price level, my conclusion is this is a very good phone from Sony!

i bought this phone as soon as it released in 2013 its been 1 year and 8 months still works awesome more than 6 times it fell on the ground from 4-5 feet one time in to a bowl of water from my shirt pocket its pretty good phone for me i installed lollipop rooted the phone

good for u. my phone developed some goddamn issue after 1 yr and keeps going in safe mode. So no warranty. no falling in water, no drops. Sony service center said if there is any internal hardware prob, phone goes into safe mode. after 2-3 days of checkin my phone, they said motherboard gone faulty due to no reason. So replacement costed Rs.5k+taxes, which is like 50-60% of existing phone price. Fed up on hearing the high cost and took back my phone. Think they built it on low quality components.

My overall view on the Sony Experia , coming from actual experience. Personally I don't think this phone Is worth buying especially if you are into using numerous apps and taking pictures. The storage notice continuously comes up as 'storage space running out' because you are forced to have a whole load of apps that have already been installed into the phone. However as annoying and as an important factor, for me is the camera quality I do not agree that it is mediocre, it is AWFUL. Like you have to stand under a light bulb or go outside and find lighting to take a decent picture. Overall I don't think this is a suitable phone or even good enough to be called a smartphone unless you want something cheap, that is easy to break (considering mine began falling apart) then sure buy the phone.

But since sony officially declared for no more updates for Xperia m. So only way to have all facilities is in our hand is by root. Anyway your decision was correct. See for link2sd you will have to use fat32 partition both for your primary and secondary storage. Best way to partition sd card without pc is by using "aparted" app available on playstore. If you Google it, you will get the detailed procedure on how to use it. I think you are using mini partition tool on pc. So try aparted app and I am sure that this will work. Because you don't have to set any partition as active or non active. If will automatically detect and partition your sd card in seconds. DO COMMENT AGAIN IF YOU NEED MORE HELP.

i got it. your phone got stuck in a bootloop because u didn't follow the right procedure for using link2sd. you might not have partitioned sd card properly. ok don't panic. 1. switch off the phone by removing battery. 2. remove the sd card. 2. switch on your phone again. 3. now your phone will boot normally. 4. if possible go for factory reset or else repartition sd card properly by using mini partition tool on pc. do comment if you need further help.....

Is this phone a Dual Active or Dual Standby phone. Dual Active means when your talking on one sim in the same device you can receive a call simultaneously. Dual standby mean at any given time on l sim will work while the other you cannot receive calls on. PROS --------- 1)phone is snappy and very very smooth..xperia ui on top looks and feels good wothout taking much ram.. 2) Sound Clarity is.very good. with xloud turned on its Even better. 3) call clarity is ok. 4) It has good set of.connectivity 5) screen is ok for its class. bur its more on cold side.there is a little bluish tint.. 6) Battery backup is good with moderate usage. lasts about 2 days with stamima mode turned on.. (7) 1GHZ DUAL CORE KRAIT CHIPS WITH ADRENO 305 CAN RUN ANY GAME ..I USE PPSSPP ON MY XPERIA AND PLAY GAMES LIKES DBZ SHIN BUDOKIA AMD IT RUNS AT PERFECT60FPS... WILL BE UPLOADING A VIDEO OF GAMEPLAY SOON... but its not able to play full hd videos... 8) Built quality is very good. dropped my phone many times.but its still going strong. after all its SONY... Went to service center and they said that mother board problem so need to replace it (mother board cost around Rs. 7000). Finally I decide to buy new mobile. Please before buying any smart phone do some analyze & try to buy in show room directly. Do not believe online purchase also. Maximum 1000 or 2000 rupees prcie difference between online & showroom purchase. But we will get 100% assurance in showroom and if we get any issue we have chance to catch seller directly. Think twice before buying.Have a good purchase guys!:-)

For battery issues, if you have it rooted, try DS battery saver with exposed modules turned on, it'll works like a charm. Any other battery saving app like battery doctor is totally useless, they'd just make your ram works harder.

It's an adequate phone. Main camera decent enough in good light, front-facing camera is a joke though. Screen clear but a bit poor colour reproduction. Battery can be easily replaced, which is a massive plus. Basic performance is great for a budget device. Internal memory is too small though - probably would have been a deal-breaker if I'd realised before purchase since Google Play requires about 200MB free to update apps. Adding a microSD card does not help for larger apps with stock firmware, only good for media and camera photos.

Hey with only rooting ur device u cannot move ur apps to SD card.. for that u need to do one-two easy steps(need computer).run 'reboot fixer' then install link2sd. search YouTube for how to install reboot fixer and after completing again search how to use link2sd for xperia m in youtube. you'll get full tutorial in youtube. it helped me a lot.That's it . easy.......

you need to install busybox to apply some commands on your phone. since Supersu only gives administer privlage to run some root apps, here some app needs commands to run which can only be provided by busybox. for example if you need to use link2sd then here u need busybox bcoz some commands need to be written for link2sd to work. All in all busybox is safe and it won't even bother you with risks unlike other apps. So install it and forget.

OK gr8 ,,,,, that means u r rooted ,,,now download busybox and Supersu from play store ( its free) and install both but install Supersu first followed by busybox. These two are very very important in order to explore root.

10 months gone. phone is excellent. Initially i had issues with network(Signal strength) and internet connectivity when switching between 2G and 3G. I had to restart my phone everytime to enable data connection. after 3 months, i made up my mind and unlocked my phone. moved on to cm11(cyanogen os. kitkat 4.4.4). signal strength and internet connectivity issues were fixed. camera improved a little. In December 2014 i flashed android lollipop (cm12-cyanogen os). I dont have any complaints. battery easily lasts for 2days unlike the sony version which lasted for 1day or less. Xperia M works smoothly on kitkat/lollipop.

to upgrade to lollipop you need to root your phone, use towelroot,its safe ( Google it and download, it's not available in Googleplay), after it download rootchecker, busybox and Supersu ( you will get these three in Googleplay for free) install it. now unlock your bootloader ( search YouTube,you'll find plenty), once done install cwm recovery and flash cm12 ...... you're done. ohhhh it might seem a long process, search YouTube, it will be a gr8 help.

my fren u cannot move apps to SD card by simply rooting ur phone....... root with towelroot,,then install busybox and SuperSU from playstore. now search remount bootfix from YouTube (very important) . after completing the whole above process now again search YouTube for how to use link2sd in xperia m. you will get everything from YouTube even the links to download remount reboot fix nd link2sd will be provided by the YouTube video uploaders. please do through research and u'll be fine. happy rooting.

all i can say on this xperia m is awsoMe, and aMazing.. I bought my handset last sept 2013, meaning its 1 year and 4mos old already.. I didnt see any difference since i bought it last september and until now. Its really working well for me.. speed is decent.. i played several hardcore games on it. For me this phone choked some high end smartphone on the market.. Only disadvantage of this phone is memory and camera..the rest is superb.

Hello everyone... , I'm using this phone from nov 2013. Till this moment my phone never seriously hanged (it hangs when internal memory full, but we can handle it).I used it without rooting for about 10 months.But after rooting ,i could feel the real strength of my xperia m. It is amazing to play some top games like Asphalt 8,Fifa 14 . These are the merits and demerits i could evaluate... Merits 1.1 GB ram is enough to handle almost all situations for me. 2.Chip-set,CPU and GPU are very good to meet a descent hang less experience. 3.Good quality components. 4.Good battery backup. (By applying Stamina mode and Low-battery mode , it ensures at least 12 to 15 hours for high usage(average 2 hour 3g ,1 hr game,1 hr 2g call) , for average use 15 to 20 hrs (1 hr 3g, 30 min game ,1 hr 2g call), and for minimum use it covers up to 2 day 4 hrs). 5.It has USB OTG facility. You can connect your USB Flash/ Memory card reader to ur phone .Helpful in many situations. 6.Audio quality is good. Both in headset and Speakers. Demerits 1.Internal memory is only 4Gb. From this only 2Gb is available. So we cannot install so many apps or bulky apps/games. If you use internal memory over 85 percent the phone will hang.BUT THIS CAN BE EFFECTIVELY OVERCOME BY ROOTING.After rooting you can use LINK2SD or FOLDER MOUNT to move apps to memory card. If you are using a class 10 memory card , i think you can use the memory card exactly similar to internal memory. 2.Camera is not upto the level. But sony keeps their quality. Not bad at all. 3.Screen is little bit small. Also it is not scratch resistant. (I don't know abt newer versions) 4.Android OS 4.3. (NOt bad ,but not latest). 5.Display has only 245 pixels per inch(ppi). It is not bad and it is good too, but not the best. Human eye can distinguish upto 300 ppi. So it is near to the maximum. 6.It cannot play full HD videos. (I think, for a 4inch screen half HD is sufficient. We cannot see any difference between Full HD and Half HD in a 4inch screen)

Select WCDMA (preferred/GSM) for SIM 1 and GSM only for SIM 2. In other words, insert the SIM with 3G connection in SIM 1 slot and other one as SIM 2. The problem should be solved. Else you can contact the ISP.

This phone is good for moderate users. I am using the dual sim for more than a year. Has a quality display, good camera and no lag if you use the memory wisely.I am still getting battery backup for one day even after one year. The battery charging time has increased from one and a half hour to two and a half hours. The sound quality both in headphone and speakers are good. m really not at all happy with the product in just 1 year the phone displayed issues with the motherboard apart from that annoyed and unhappy from the sony's service center's behaviour ...instead of checking the issue properly and testing the handset they replaced the sim slot which was an issue however not the only reason for the phone's fault won't suggest anyone to spend money on sony as in case of any issue their repair/replacement charges will annoy you more.

I have a same problem. Phone sometimes restart automatically. but now its working fine. do following things: 1) just check whether your sim/memory card inserted properly. put a small paper on it and close the back cover. If still issue than do next steps 2) Due to some virus in Memory card,it restarts so take backup only for Imp files and do format. 3) at last do factory restore. May be due to first option your phone restarts.

dude, i had the same problem. i just opened up the "screws" and did a bit of cleaning of the circuits. it worked miraculously. i advice you the same :) and i also resetted my phone once.

OK.......now firstly download towelroot (google and download, its not available in play store) after downloading and installing towelroot ,open it and tap "make it rain". Phone will restart. Now download root checker from playstore and check,,,, Boom u have rooted ur xperia m. Now the most important app.... Download SuperSU and busybox from play store and install it both. Now ur full root . (The above process is only for xperia m ss/DS with jellybean 4.3)

Sony mobile phones are the worst phones I have ever used, in terms of reliability. All of the Sony phone have a common problem with the MIC. After using the phone for a while, the MIC of the device started malfunctioning. Outgoing voice from the mobile was not audible to the person you are talking to. Initially this use to happen only for a few seconds between the conversations, but once I gave it for servicing, condition worsened. Now, most of the time, I am not able to talk to anyone without keeping the phone on Speaker mode. This is pathetic, never expected from a brand like Sony. If it was Samsung or Micromax, I would have excepted the defect. But not with Sony. All my friends who have got a Sony mobile phone are facing the same MIC issue. Everyone is frustrated of it now and is cursing the company. I would never go for a Sony device again and neither would suggest any friend. Its a waste of money.

It's the best mid range phone that I ever had! Just buy this phone a week ago, and I am really really satisfied with it's overall function, design and it's really meets my expectation. Although internal is just 2GB (as Android OS has taken over the other 2GB), I can say that's enough for me as I am not installing too much apps and regularly clean the apps in my phone. The design made me wanna see it everyday. Plus, I have already bought a new casing for it which make it look very nice. It's good only if you didn't upgrade to 4.3...then stock camera it's better. On 4.1 or 4.2 Ucam Hd has the 'zero shutter lag' capability that can take very good photos in daylight mostly. 4.3 comes with many improvements that will block Ucam's ZSL, but also resolve other issues. The image stabilization has very good noise reduction. Have fun!

1. Last version officially given was 4.3. There is no further updates coming from Sony beyond this version. This phone started out on 4.1.2. Sony provided updates only for 1 year and they recently announced that 4.3 will the final version, so no KK coming. But I am happy with 4.3 as most apps are switching to material design. So I am really not missing out on L. 2, Screen clarity is equally good on M. Just that M has onscreen buttons for home, back, recent app. I personally liked the M though as M was better to hold due to square edges(where u hold the phone) rather than curved ones. Curved edges feel slippery to me. 3. There is no metal lining or rims like samsung which chips off(I have had samsung s plus and galaxy ace, before, so i understand your concern), so no issues with that. Just put a good hard backcover so that the phone back panel will always look like new and a good scratchguard on display. This is more than enuff. 4. For medium usage this is excellent if u r using 2G fr data. Read my opinion below for more experience on this phone. This is my 1st Sony phone after being Samsung and Nokia user all these years.

No drawback at all...small internal memory it's nasty for only those cracked-noob-gamers...and camera have been upgraded by latest updates so its clarity now it's great (I have a great collection of pictures of it but the admins have been deleted the past comments with them so...but anyway its camera is awesome!). Sadly, because of hundreds of trollers being born every minute a day over the W.W.W. and not only, Sony caught a bad reputation and mid range phones may be over... The only drawback is the battery back up and camera clearity. The battery backis only for 8 -9 hours. Other specifications are good and infact better than samsung . It never hang up. This is true even for gmail configured on default email client. When i use 3rd party apps like boxer or mailwise, html messages are shown properly. To give you a background, the only reason why I tested with these 2 apps is these apps do not have their servers in between my phone and my office server. These are direct client apps. Other apps like mailbox/solmail/bluemail, etc have their servers as man-in-the middle for indexing your mails. And I dont want to use boxer and mailwise apps too and need to rely only on the default email client. So can someone help me is there something wrong with the default email client of Android? Is there any solution?

This update is for mobile android software version update( not operating system update)......just connect the phone to pc and install sony pc companion software in pc... After that follow the instructions and within 15 min u will be upgraded to the new version... It gives more smoothness to the phone and enhances the bettery life... 1.)It does support OTG pen drives/Hard disks..to use hard disk u have to provide electricity to ur HD by using Y cable or powered hub or power bank. 2.)and yes it gets hot on call...so i use earphone lol..and about net on wifi it doesn't get hot but gets hot on 3g/2g internet. 3.)and about other ROM's....I dont do that becuz I do some bank related work on my cell ..so IF you do too then dont look for other ROMs stay with original and if u have this cell for entertainment then go for it...but do things very precisely otherwise you may end up with brick cell.. here are some link for ROM etc.. there is no one better than xda guys.

Well after 3 months use I can say phone is good But 2 things are negative Camera and Internal memory space. Now solution for camera is use as Manual then use HDR and Auto flash then u will get good pics...and for internal memory everything is great except we can't install big games for that we have to root it but dont do it becuz first voids warranty , second opens door for hack apps or virus app. So Phone is good now and battery back up is good, people who are not getting good back up always STOP unnecessary apps running in back ground. And yes only 720p hd movies are played not 1080p...1080p laggs ..and 294ppi is all good display. And its really fast so if u have bought it then enjoy if not then dont becuz for some people 1080p and games and internal memory are big deal. it was good phone 3 months ago considering price and value but now more options are available. if anybody is having problem with this phone then type it here i will try to help... and yes i found one more problem but it was related to themes...actually i downloaded a theme which was creating problem with interface.. i found out and uninstall it... so themes u download beware of it..

Overall good performance with software, I'm using it from 1year but u guys will never believe that it didn't hanged or restarted even once from the date of purchase... I really proud to say about it. Battery is ok like other smart phones, 1day backup... As many guys says camera is not soo good like wat we expect with 5MP from Sony... Remaining with other features are good... And I guess no need to say much about music effect in ear phone coz it's sony built cell... Just muzik is Rocks...

get an app called Framaroot. On it's interface, select to install SuperSU and the type MUST BE "Gandalf" It may reboot and DONE! :) Be sure about the xperia model then. xperia M and M dual

Just press and hold the song or album and it will give u an option to delete click that and it will delete hope this helps

I have found that using opera lite instead of chrome browser is much better in terms of speed and also overheating which is an usual problem in this phone.

Dont go for this phone, better buy something else. This has only 2 GB of memory for ur apps. You will soon run out of memory as u keep on installing apps. Then one fine day u will realize this after 5-6 months of using this phne. Better go for sum other phone with atleast 8-6GB internal memory, avoid this phne at all costs. After all android is all abt apps, u wil install more apps than u think u will.
