Had it for 6 days. No longer boots up. When I turn it on it shows the Sony logo then turns off. When I connect to the PC or charge it keeps switching to flash mode then back to the Sony (with a red light), just keeps going on until I plug it out. Any help? Planning on a refund.

Ive had this phone, on android 4.1 it has had a longer battery life than on 4.3 , but on 4.1 there was a short wifi range problem. On a good battery, it should last no more than 6 hours of continuous use ( google facebook ect... ) On games it would last about 2.5 to 3 hours It was a very slow and laggy phone, i hated it very much. Back at it's time, the only good options from sony were the xperia z and xperia zr , but these 2 will lag too when running upated apps

Using this for more than 4 years. Dropped a couple of time. Still working fine. Battery time is the default issue with Xperia SP but manageable. A bit heavy-hearted coz i'm gonna replace it with Samsung A+ Plus. Planning to keep it as a secondary phone.

My Xperia SP C5303 is also 4 years old and still going well, although getting rather slow when I'm browsing the web. I always use a skin, so dropping it doesn't do any damage. I can't understand why many people crack their screens by dropping the phones -- so easy to solve this costly problem with a skin. I also use a belt pouch -- so I don't drop it in the loo from your pants pocket (dumb!!). It has frozen on me once; had to get it unfrozen and then reload the apps. Every now and then I have to get rid of some apps to speed it up. Thinking of upgrading to Sony XZ , Moto G6 Plus, or Nokia 6.1- - but will keep this going until it dies.

I think I uninstalled all the updates and then disabled it.. I did that with a few things that came pre-installed and which I didn't use. Saved a lot of space too.

Still using the XP I bought in 2013. Started to get slow until I uninstalled Facebook... VGA front camera is the only major drawback. Never found a decent replacement for the same money. Maybe a Motorola..? My sis just gave me an iPhone SE and that's the only reason I'm gonna change.

Admit it dude. Sony is dead. I feel you. I'm still a fan, but no good mid range phones from Sony. I loved this phone and I am going to keep using it as my music player even after I buy new phone just because of those LEDs. :D I don't wanr to go with xiaomi ( still can't seem to trust it, even though many of my friends and family use it), so I am waiting for Nokia 7 plus. The reviews look good, trusted brand and I like the design. I hope the phone turns out to be a mid range killer like SP. Cheers :)

Which phone did you go for? I'm still using it ( bought it on 11/8/13 ) and the limited space is becoming a major problem. Also due to my clumsiness there are a few dead pixels. But it has served me well and I still love the LEDs.

I've had my Sony Xperia since 4 years. First year with a protective "wallet-cover". then the "wallet-cover" broke. The phone fell on the ground around 30 times, and it never broke anything, even without case. The gorilla glass broke only the 31st time the phone fell on the ground, after 4 years of use. My philosophy concerning mobile phones consists of trying to function with the same phone the longest possible, without being driven by this sick materialism which pushes us to change phones every 1 or 2 years and exhausts the environment... The storage capacity of this phone started to become limited compared to my needs, and considering the facts that 1. the glass was now broken and 2. I've had the phone for 4 to 5 years, I decided to get a new one. I'm positively surprised about the solidity of the SONY XPERIA SP and was very satisfied with it. I would choose the same phone again if facing the choice same situation as 4 years ago.

My SP and I just celebrated 4 years together. Changed nothing not even the battery and going like the day she arrived. No doubt not as fast as her counterparts on the market today, but very satisfied with her reliable service. Might (sshhh) have a look at the XA2 when it's available

My Xperia SP toasted itself, became unresponsive when I launched whatsapp, stuttered and freaked out every time I open the camera app, the bottom lights don't work like how they used to out of the box after a couple of months and note to anyone who has this phone NEVER disturb the off button on the back of the phone it will give you nightmared.

I own this phone for 4 years. Everything runs well, but recently only keyboard issue that takes long time to appear, i think it's because i use another app for my keyboard. If you compare to the phones nowadays, XSP absolutely be defeated. But overall, what I like the most about this phone is its LED BAR that follow the beat of your music, and your notifications will be more colorful!!! I can't found another phone as attractive as this phone. I'm just a PROUD XPERIA SP USER!!!

I bought it at 2013 and I upgraded it to Cyanogenmod Android 5.1.1 (v.7.0 is also available). It works fine, it’s quite responsive and I feel happy because after so many years, I have a fully working, backup phone. Too bad that Sony did not supported it correctly, yet Cyanogenmod created many updates. How many new phones out there have the Nugat option?

1 Gb RAM is an absolute killer. I bought it 3 years ago, for about £230. For that time it was a good amount. It was quite slow from the beginning. Looking for a new budget phone now. I hope I don't fall into the same mistake. Thinking between Honor 6A 3Gb ram, Huawei P8 lite 2017, and Motorola G5S. I have already kept this smartphone for 4 years already, it is definitely still working. But, with that SNAPDRAGON S4 PRO equipped with 1GB RAM, it definitely struggles since apps are always updating for the better which means more memory is used for smooth experience, this will make the XPERIA SP lag a lot. Back in the days the SNAPDRAGON S4 PRO was a powerful processor, now, it struggles to keep up on simple tasks like going to the settings, scrolling through apps slowly. Well in comparison with my Z and X series smartphones, the performance difference is big

I would choose STRYFLEX UI mainly because this copies the newer versions of Sony's UI and would feel like I am still using Sony. There are a lot of tweaks u can do with it like the status bar etc. They also got a Software Update section too for the newer versions, just like Sony's very own one, but they used theirs because of their ROM. But, there are also cons of it. Some apps from Sony are replaced by CyanogenMod's one so it would feel a bit weird. And for the XPERIA SP users like me previously used this phone changed to XPERIA XZ a few months ago, u should know there is the big but beautiful illumination bar below the phone to illuminate light from their album, music, notifications, and charging. But if u download any custom ROM, the bar will not light up at all, not only this ROM does it

Hi, George. Get the ROM from here: Make sure your bootloader is unlocked. Search YouTube tutorials how to unlock it. Actually, search tutorials about everything, don't do anything on your own, because it can be tricky. I am a novice at this, and I managed to do it on my own, just make sure to follow the tutorials step by step. It will be worth it in the end. I hope this helps. Nace

I just installed LineageOS 14.1 ... Dear god, this is now a brand new phone, fast and smooth. It runs Android 7.1.2 Custom ROMs are the cure for all devices forgotten by the manufacturers. Sony gave up on this phone waaaay too soon. Good thing there is a community of people who give life to these devices.

I agree that this is the worst phone ever if you use the HORRIBLE stock Sony software/ROM. BUT, if you are into computers, learn how to install custom roms, and get Resurrection Remix. Be careful though, don't rush things or you can brick the phone. BUT, if you do it nicely the phone will become a new phone. A pretty good one. With Resurrection Remix (runs on Lollipop) I only noticed that Facebook and Chrome lag a lot, BUT with Facebook Lite and the default phone browser it works super fast, and trust me you are not losing anything by using these two instead. This is actually my old phone, I never thought I will be able to use it for daily use again, but it looks like I can start again. Custom ROMs are awesome, just be careful which one you choose, there are many which are full with bugs, so make sure to read the comments before you decide to get one from the XDA forums. IMPORTANT: Make sure to unlock the bootloader if it is possible on your device. Peace.

I bought an Speria XP in March 2015, a few months later it started to became laggy, slow and bad performance, I even flashed the ROM and avoided updates, but it got even worse (started to freeze and restart once per day). Far from what Sony wants this product to be, my next one will definitely be a non-Sony!

I am extremely disappointed with this phone. Bought one in 2015 and 6 months after it started lagging thus would shut down by itself. I found myself resetting the phone at least once a month lo reduce the issue. Less than a year after I couldn't get cellular network and it wouldn't charge as well. The battery run out and it never came back on. I tried getting it fixed in the shop I bought it and nothing could be done , I got charged $13 for diagnostic. NOTE: In my country guarantee for phones is 6 months only. Phone is still in immaculate condition it never fell or anything.

i used this phone 5 months, second HH. And I used c5302 with HSPA only, i dont think any different between 4g or not, because it sometimes laggy, and I think it's quite with H+ only. I use 4g only with Xperia Z1, I think the hardware quite modern for 4g, and apps will be compatible than c5302, so no problem with only H+ and doesn't have 4g

This Xperia SP, I am using for 2 and a half years. Since then I don't feel happy about this phone. It heat up suddenly like when I use internet or play games or browse through the mobile features or when I charge the phone. Also apps takes too much time to open, even my contacts and hang frequently. Overall it has very good features but it's performance is very very poor.

I just got one of these and took a quick photo inside the lounge and have to day it is very impressive quality. I am surprised therefore by others saying this phone has a rubbish camera. Having had an M4 Aqua in the past I do know that it has a tendency to shut down also a problem with video recording where all of a sudden it records only blackness, however a restart always resolves this.

I am really not a picky person when it comes to phones - I really just want to be able to call and text - but this one is crap. Mine might be a dud, but I cannot recommend this phone to anyone, EVEN IF YOU GOT IT FOR FREE. It's slow and will simply shut itself off when it can't handle basic tasks (even the text messaging app will crash). Using wi-fi requires a warm up period of about 5 minutes before it will work at a reasonable speed. I now use it as an mp3 player, which is mostly okay, but it takes 5 minutes to start working and sometimes will disconnect from my bluetooth headphones for no reason. Call quality is pretty good, occasionally disconnects. Like I said, text messaging will sometimes shut down randomly. The camera is a complete joke. The screen and the phone's design are beautiful, which makes it a real shame that the interior is so ugly. I think Sony tried to make a fancy phone at a low price and ended up pushing out a lemon. They've definitely convinced me to never buy a Sony phone again, even though I consider Sony a good brand in general. Do NOT get this phone, let it slowly fade into history.

Pokemon Go is compatible only to Android 4.4 and up and to devices with 2gb ram. Sad to say, you can only legally update to 4.3 and the phone only has 1gb ram.

There's a guide on youtube for disassembly/reassembly. Follow that and you can change the battery fairly easily, as long as you have the right tools.

My wufe has SP and had problems with lagging, crashing. It was almost unusable. Last night I backed up and did software repair with Sony xperia suite (or what thay call it nowdays). Restored contacts and sms. Phone works perfectly on android 4.3 , no legging, crashing. Installed shitload of apps and still no problems.

It's quite a good phone the only disadvantage is that it doesn't connect to all wifi connections and it's front camera is really bad. Other than that it is an awesome phone, it was perfect for the first 2 years , then I started having issues but that quite good for a 15k sony mobile phone.

The phone is not at all recommended. Hangs up frequently, poor performance with the internet connection. The picture quality is also not comparable to samsung. The front camera is really pathetic.

Xperia sp is old, it goes overheat sometimes but you can play games for hours and battery is good, i think opinions may vary from peeps but if you want to play few games like mortal kombat x dead trigger 2 sas zombie assault, listen music the whole day, take a picture casually you gonna love this phone, people complaining about the camera and unnecessary wanting ultra hd photos for a low price should be quiet and instrad put the money and buy xperia z3, samsung s5 or else get a damm professional camera! Outdated? Gpu is still better than then most in these days: most of phone now are using Mali-450MP4 which is worse then andreno 320 used on this phone. Cpu even is dual core,it was a higher frequency(1,7 compared to most of the phones that are using 1,2 or 1,4) and the krait chipset stick rocks! I'm using cumstom 6.0.1 on this phone and i can tell you it's not laggie at all! I also have a huawei p8 lite with octa core,2gb ram and mali-450mp4 and games are laggier than xperia sp :)

If you really take time to read its specs, it is obvious of course that it already has an OUTDATED chipset, gpu, cpu, camera, etc compared from today's. If u wanted to really use this phone, then root it. I have this phone, the problems that I have are only lagging, tho it hangs but not all the time, some apps are not compatible, and sometimes it crash. Nevertheless it is a solid phone, I have thrown it on the road, into the pool, on the wall and smashed a cemented block on it. It cracked the screen but it is still functional.

Good phone bad photos but nice runner it would be nice touch more space but am from a era of 1gb internal memory and 50mb ram so it's a improvement and it's worth the quids specially for the 4g version it's like the only 4g version of its build quality that's at a affordable average price I only paid £50-£55 for it and it's brilliant so far. It hangs cause your probably running a lot of apps at the same time try rebooting it another option is restrict background data and try not to use your phone while charging. What I did you don't have too is disable the Facebook app and try to dodge updates for applications that are already in the phone and work... When the screen freaks out if ever? I normally find it when I haven't reboot the phone in awhile (turn the phone off and on) just use the screen lock. It's not just Sony phones that do this HTC, Samsung few other brands namely HTC wildfire been worst so don't feel discouraged about the product in your hand i went from a Xperia t to a Xperia arc s and now a Xperia sp and am rather happy am able to install application software at such quality. Still is problems using the music app when using other apps but that's security issues I think?? I know on firmware gingerbread it used to be allowed.anyways I've hoped I've helped a little and gived a little information on the phone personally I miss the gingerbread days it was a easy loader but functions are more solid now well too if you take care of your phone.

Hey. nice. I have using for 3 years now. It is slow when u install too many social apps. Because it comes on running which makes the phone slow. FB messenger takes up alot of ram and other social apps as well as they never sleeps. Uninstall some and yr phone will be faster.

An awfully bad phone. Avoid it at all costs and don't believe the hype. It lags a lot, the walkman is killed automatically because of memory issues, the camera is severely mediocre and its battery life lasts less than three hours on continuous usage.

I have had this device for 2 years now, and the biggest problem is the battery. I don't even know why, but when the battery is on 20% it dies. Then i charge may phone, and it is 0%... So 20% is the new zero of my phone. I don't know how to fix this bug. The other thing that i dissapoint is the many of crash of any apps. Maybe it's because the RAM only 1GB so when i go multitasking it crash over and over... So i think when i want to buy new phone maybe i don't want to buy this brand again

I have this phone for more than 2 years now. It has had its own problems but now its okay-ish. Using cyanogenmod (CM 12.1) on unlocked bootloader, cm11 is more stable choice perhaps. Just make sure not to overwhelm your phone with apps that require lots of ram. Camera is average but im used to it. (grainy pictures). BUT battery it came with - is still good after 2 years so I can see why it is built-in. Been using screen protector and a case around it and ive dropped it many times from low height but its all good! It hasnt visited warranty/repair shop.

OK, listen up. The phone itself is OK. The problem is that you people don't know how to update the software (from 4.1 to 4.3) 1. You make a factory reset with an option to delete all files on the phone (make sure to transfer all your images, music etc on your PC first) 2. You plug in your phone to a PC and ONLY THAT WAY you make the update, via the PC Suite. 3. After the update you make another factory reset with an option to delete all files on the phone Do this, and you will have a great Xperia SP. Personally, I am happy with the phone. It has been my best Android so far.

Where do I start with this phone... I got it a couple of years ago and when I first got the XSP it was fine, it was running 4.1 everything was good... Until Sony unleashed the 4.3 update. Since then I have had to wipe the phone clean 3 times and do factory resets. The phone likes to crash A LOT! Every time I pick up the phone I get "Facebook has crashed wait report or close", "Browser has crashed wait report or close", "Snapchat has crashed wait report or close", "System UI has crashed wait report or close" Texting crashes it ...Phone calls crashes it and turns it in to a useless brick where then I have to scramble to find a pen, fork, toothpick or something to hit the reset button under the back cover. I do not recommend this phone at all! If a friend tries to give you this phone..unfriend them.

I have upgraded from Sony xperia sp to Lenova VIBE P1m, trust me, I mean it, an update worth doing. Sony asked me to replace motherboard by paying 7k(rs) when I asked them to repair the my phone which stopped charging. After buying this I was prepared to accept poor performance in Lenova vibe p1m, but it was not as bad as xperia so was in terms of battery back up which was exceptional when compared with'SP', and gaming performance was also far better since it had 2gb of ram(I learned that adreno 320 is not the only thing required for smooth gaming), and even multi tasking seems way out of the league of xperia Sp. I loved xperia sp and is still thankful for the device, but as time moves on, you got to see what's best for you. For nearly 8k I bought it.

I had the same problem. My phone once died and I had to change the motherboard. Luckily it was still under warranty. Paying out of your pocket to change motherboard is too expensive, it costs almost as much as new Xperia SP. It has nothing to do with sealed battery though, I have had failing motherboard on a phone with user-replaceable battery.

I am using Sony Xperia SP for about 2 years. This phone is the worst I ever had. There are so many issues with it I don't even no where to start. The phone overheat itself and need to restart many time to get any reaction from it. The switch on button sometimes (often) doesn't act, so it takes minutes to actually restart the phone. Also the touchscreen doesn't seem to react and on a lot of occasion I couldn't hang up before it went to voicemail, or other time I couldn't pick up the call as the screen wasn't responding. Few times I had to charge it while it was switched off, as the battery wasn't charging fast enough,and still had low battery after 4 hours charging. I checked and no apps were open, so probably something else run in the background. Also simple apps are not responding like album, camera or even contacts. I have now literally deleted everything from the phone to try to make it work,but it is slow and rubbish. Cannot wait to get a new phone soon. It won't be a Sony for sure. If my life would depend on this phone to call help, I would be dead.

You can install CyanogenMod CM12.1 (Android 5.1.1) if your phone's warranty is over. There is no over the air update for Xperia SP after Jellybean 4.3. I have been using Cyanogenmod 12.1 since a month and the phone is working awesome!

I bought a broken sp from eBay to fix. Having disassembled it I replaced the screen, then later I bought a new battery for under £5.00. You can replace the battery but you do have to take the back cover off and get in there. There are videos on YouTube to guide you through a complete rebuild.i would advise a micro toolkit and have a magnifying glass. I've now had this phone for over a year and it's really good. About once a month it throws a hissy fit and wants a reboot and the camera is disappointing tinging the picture yellow although you can use the editor to get past that. The cheap battery from eBay lasts a very long time. Stamina mode gets me nearly 3 days if I don't use video and music. And heavy use still manages most of the day, ie, watching TV for 4 hrs on the Internet. I have around 80 apps and it runs fine, I have a 64gb sd card in it but it won't read my sandisk 128gb. I think the screen is brilliant, colours are vibrant but again the camera is poor, in fact my old samsung 5 mp is better than the 8 mp in the sp. Sound quality is great through decent headphones and the Sony Walkman app is very good. The sp has illumination on the bottom that lights up when playing music, a bit pointless but I like it.

If you root your device, the device may perform well in the beginning, but, not always. The fast performance of any device when a custom ROM is installed is because THE MOBILE IS CLEARED OF ALL MESS IT WAS HAVING JUST BEFORE, now the rooted hanset has lesser apps,lesser amount of personal information you had before. After sometime, if you install all apps that you need, you could easily see that there are not any performance improvements, rather only some insufficiency caused to once well-performed processor. However, the added features, and new designs and the privilege to customise every single thing about your phone may seem like a icing on the cake, but pls dont root if you need SAFETY, EFFICIENCY, AND WHATEVER THE COMPANY DESIGNED THE DEVICE FOR THE USE IF IT.

At the moment I'm using it with CyanogenMod 11 derived from KitKat. It's a very stable state and can be safely used. Newer CM versions, Lollipop or Marshmallow, can be at an early stage therefore with some bugs.

I've no regrets buying this phone almost two years ago. Build quality is superb (mine's fallen a LOT), screen size and resolution exactly what I'm looking for, also one of the highest clocked Dual core CPU around with Adreno320, useful Notification LED bar, and one of the highest capacity Battery ever fitted to 4.5" at the time. My wishes: More RAM (only 1GB), more Internal Memory (only 5.7GB available to user), sometimes when typing in websites/online games the keypad would fall out of the screen and not come back even after re-tapping on blank areas on screen. I didn't plan to use the camera except occasionally, actually I do a lot of zoom in on downloaded images instead.

The camera is not really good but is good enough to get decent photos. I compared it with a Samsung Galaxy Note 2 8mp camera and found out that Xperia SP photos has over-processed images that results in green noise. Try to use the flash or photo light indoors or when taking pictures of food.

I have been using this phone 2 years.. i had to visit service centre due to poor ram management(only 20-30 free!).. later i had to do factory reset again at home. It is still stuck with android jellybean 4.3! sound clarity is exceptionally awesome.. camera and display also good. But considering the negative aspects of ram management, wont recommend this phone to anyone. Big games crashes sometimes.. after closing google chrome menu stucks for a second or 2. :(

I've had this phone for over a year, and I can't say a good things about it. First, the phone is stuck at android 4.3, and I have no way of unlocking the bootloader. It often overheats for no apparent reasons, even when I don't use it. The worst thing about this phone that it closes apps on its own; at times the keyboard just closes in the middle of browsing or writing an email. Not sure if it's a software issue or not. I've tried multiple variants based on the stock ROM, but no luck. The camera is average - at best. I expected much more from a Sony phone.

I still can't quite place why Sony would just cut ties with the Xperia SP. This phone IS capable of running Android 4.4, even 5.1.1. I'm stuck on Android 4.3 with no way out but the risk of having to root my phone. And the Sony Xperia Z still gets updates even though it's older than the SP. I hate the way updates are rolled out sometimes -_-

This is the shittiest phone i have ever had, i am never going android again, it lags like hell on android 4,3, mine is with a permanent locked bootloader and i can not get any custom roms.. Stay away from this device and any non flagship android device, just get an earlier iphone or an equivalent windows phone device, the screen is not bad, the battery last a day, the camera is not that good, the light bar is just a gimmick, its cool to have, but you really do not need it. The only problem i have with it is the OS. I give this phone 4/10 because its lags like hell and has a mediocre camera

The only gripe I have with this phone is that it doesn't have Android 4.4 or above. That's it. Apart from that, solid phone. Plus it looks better than most Samsungs imo xD P.S: Seeing some people compare this to flagship phones is just stupid. This was designed as a midrange phone. It isn't designed to compete with an S4 or S3 or any Galaxy S number. It was competing with things like the Acer 3, and the Lumias, and the HTC Desires. I believe my opinion will be the most honest one in this comment section. I've owned this since it's release and it has went through alot in its journey with me. I've dropped this phone like 20+ times from a height of 1m, came out with scratches on the edges of the phone but amazingly no damage to the screen so far. The mobile experienced a permanent freeze/ only once after a year of owning it possibly due to my habit of exposing it to water vapors in showers lol, but nevertheless it kept on going after I got it fixed and it is still running as of now. This is a pretty awesome phone for a midrange tier, it's like the Huracan of Lamborghini because it was one of the first mid range phone to have 4G built in. Personally I have used xperia sp for more than 2 years and it rocked like anything, it played all games without lags fluently so people complaining about performance get a life for yourself, battery life is average like all smartphones, camera is very good in daylight and not that good at night but still can click nice photos, I and still a current Sony user and have used phones of all companies and after that I have concluded that Sony and HTC mid range phones are a whole a he'll lot better than that chap Samsung mid range and even some high range phones, also comparing camera of sp with S6 or other high range phones will make you look stupid cause you are comparing a 15k phone with a 55k one. Xperia sp is still amazing Highly reliable, thanks for its specs Certainly a mobile worth buying If you experience any problem like lagging, or any other please mention in comments section above, For solving issues pls follow these steps Select only either gsm or wcdma,but not wdcma preffered (this i found in comments by some other users thanks) Unistall or disable apps and services of little or no use to you(highly recommended - a must do thing for all android and even all smartphone users) Switch off your device for some time once in every three days or every night if possible. Enabling stamina mode is useful but wont affect performance in any way-this is to say it is still butter smooth. To get the best performance use it when it is cool, disabling apps unused apps could be handy. However better you take care of the mobile, so better will be how the performance. If you take care of this mobile with extreme level of care, it still wont give you ultra high definition selfie images, not even a decent selfie for social media purpose,...yes you cannot override the limitations, so dont expect for the user experience even apple users or top end mobile still dream of. Being an satisfied xperia user for more than 3years, i would not recommend this mobile to anyone, because there are better equipped mobiles at even cheaper price.But for me, i bought this mobile during a time when xperia sp was one of the only few mid-ranged devices that outperformed even flagship devices(performs better than iPhone 4s,nokia lumia 920, etc) -oh xperia sp even outranked xperia zr,zl in few few areas(please refer youtube)............................i still get the best out of it with no lag and WOULD NOT consider UPGRADING in the near future. Friend the xperia sp's internal radio reception is much weaker. If GSM is OK then the radio is fine. I have an Xperia SP and Moto E2 LTE. On Moto I get good 4G & WiFi reception, but on Xperia it really weak one bar max sometimes no LTE at all. Even WiFi reception is poor. Keeps disconnecting a lot.

Camera quality is not up to the mark for an 8 MP camera. Samsung Galaxy S4 mini has far better picture quality in same range. Touch sensor is not stable. I had to use it in glove mode for better sensitivity sometimes. Audio and display quality is very good. Good part is that it comes with NFC which wasn't available in other phones in same range till last year(Not sure about now) and most importantly(for me) keypad is very user friendly and easy to use.

Keuboard randomly disappears and won't come back, audio cuts out and won't come back, random reboots when I'm in the middle of doing something, data sharing (via hotspot or USB) just flat out doesn't work, freezes up all the time, disregards instructions I give it such as 'do NOT update apps over mobile networks', apps crash all the time, will start the shutdown sequence without me asking it to and then say 'Shutting down' until it finally runs out of battery. Worst phone I have ever had!! Keyboard decides to just disappear and refuses to reappear whenever it likes. Wifi keeps turning on when phone is locked, even though location based wifi is turned off. Internet crashes and returns to home screen when it wants. Takes forever to turn on. The camera above the screen is very poor quality. Whole phone freezes and crashes after recording a video (regardless of its length). There are times when my phone rings and the 'answer/decline' slider doesn't pop up, making me miss the call. There are periods where the phone is extremely slow, just exiting an app or the internet and it takes forever to do so, freezes in the process. I'm hoping I won't need to use this phone in an emergency because I can imagine it crashing when trying to make an emergency call! I think I've made my point, this is an extremely useless phone and I wouldn't recommend it to anybody!

Good to hear from you that you are happy with your Xperia SP. For me it is a good phone but I did face some issues over the 2 years like bootloop using the themes downloaded on play store. I didn't know that lockscreen with password cannot use themes that are not pre-installed. Other than that, the performance is still very good. Just turn off my phone when I feel is starts to lag cause use for many days with many apps running.

The LED feature of this Phone grabbed My attention, Initially I was unsatisfied with it's poor performance of Camera, Later after the update it was a great change. This device is really amazing, I've no issue with it to look for a new device. After using this device for long 2 years, the battery backup is still the same. Hardly I remember this device should have hanged for not more than 5 times, even if it hangs it restarts automatically. I've been using a 64GB microSD card on stock Android 4.3 on my Xperia SP C5303, file system is still exFAT no formatting and changing to FAT32 done for 2 months now & it works brilliantly. This is despite the 32GB cap stated on the specifications. I'm kicking myself for not doing it earlier, quite frankly. So go ahead and pop in that 64GB microSD card. On the build quality of my Xperia SP C5303, I won't complain, neither will I praise Sony Corp. I'm an advent user of the bedevilled pudding case cushions against knocks, light falls & protects the co-moulded aluminium strip from eventual chipping. It does increase the phone's size though but you get used to it. A quick Google search & the chipped & flaking Xperia SP co-moulded aluminium strip doesn't look pretty, use a protective case. The first generation Gorilla glass holds its mantle pretty well, no cracks or chips on the screen after 1yr 7months with the Xperia SP C5303.

Please download Sony pc companion and install it. Connect your phone to pc and open Sony pc companion. Upper left corner there will be a option available besides of sp photo. That your phone is up to date, but you have to click on it. Then there will be statement that if you are facing any problems or issues then please reinstall your firmware, click on it and next will be option of backup etc . Then 800+mb firmware will be download and install to your phone, time depends upon your intent connection speed. Keep in mind all brothers who are facing any issue use this technique its official. One year 7 months later and the only complaint I have of my Sony Xperia SP C5303 is the fact that it's not upgradeable beyond Android 4.3. I honestly haven't experienced hanging or freezing partly due to the fact that I clear unnecessary clutter from the 1GB RAM & make use of the hard reset button once a month, otherwise relatively heavy games Dead Trigger 2, NFS, FIFA handle perfectly well, the Adreno 320 chip handles itself like a charm. The 8MP camera is just above average compared to the extensive options out there but it takes excellent photos in well lit environs & good photos in dimly lit ones. I have a digital camera so I'm satisfied with the Xperia SP phone camera. Battery is 2370mAh and it's battery life is still a reasonable 16hrs daily with moderate use, ie 4G, emails, Twitter, WhatsApp and reading the e-paper. Heavy usage gets me an average of 9-10 hrs, switch off 4G & 3G gets me to 12hrs while wifi gives me 13-14 hrs. This is despite the phone being slightly over 18 months old & everything is still stock Android 4.3. Handles my apps smoothly, I can't complain. Speaker is loud enough to enjoy music or a handsfree call with ease, it's no BoomSound, neither is it front facing but it gets the job done. I think my Xperia SP C5303 has another year and a half in it, I'll be sure to post my review in January 2017 regarding the same. Would I suggest it to anyone in the market for a phone, quite frankly no. The Ram is limited at 1GB, which as we know is never exactly 1GB, there are better options out there and the fact that I have to get stuck with Android 4.3 is greatly annoying. The Adreno 320 chip though powerful, is now outdated by a couple of new generation chips. The screen has huge bezels & is 720p, though the 720p screen uses less battery power compared to higher resolution ones hence the great battery life plus you can't really tell the difference between a 720p & 1080p screen, maybe on the quadHD screens. if none of this things bother you, then go ahead and get onboard with the Xperia SP.

This is one regrettable purchase. MItP was excellent for just about 1yr. After this it started to play up such as freeze or wouldn't charge. Things went worse very quickly and phone would start and restart, then the only way to use it was to keep in on charge, then it won't start at all. From my extensive research, it's a common problem with Sony. The Stamina batteries are poorly made. Sony has a reputation for making things that fall apart just outside of warranty. I'm totally disappointed especially as my older Lenovo mobile which the Xperia SP was meant to replace, is still going strong

XPERIA SP in my since 18Months,During warranty period 5 times visited for repairs like mother board,camera Hanging Problems.Now After warranty visited sony service centre Malad Mumbai with problem of NETWORK Issue,4days took to repair finally said needs mother board replacement which will cost 10,500 rupees. I loved this phone when I first got it but hate it now. It has good camera functions and is a good size but I have had so many problems. The phone kept turning itself off, mid phone call once, and wouldn't let me answer calls. I had it repaired but it just got worse, so had a replacement refurbished Xperia sp. Hey. The camera software is not good for this Xperia Sp. It looks greenish when taken indoors. Even outdoors, the image are heavily process. The images are sharp but got greenish noise Which makes the image looks bad. Nothing to do with the one or two year. Is not good from the beginning. Is fine for me cause I use A camera to take photos.

Hey. Are u using third party themes from the play store? are u also using a password or pattern lock screen? If so, u need to change back to the original Xperia Themes. It cannot use third party themes and use lockscreen password together. It will cause your phone to restart.

The camera is good indeed in daylight. Try noticing when taking indoors, the picture look greenish. What I have notice and tried is that, if the picture is taken at ISO 400 above, the greenish will be less visible and disappear.

This normally happens when you just turn on the wifi or mobile data, and you press whatsapp immediately. Whatsapp need to be connected to the Internet first before using it, it doesn't work well when it is in the process of connecting. So wait for the Internet to be connected first for awhile, it may have some new incoming messages that whatsapp is trying to receive. Or maybe you are on stamina mode, the Internet disconnects when the screen is off and when you on back it connects again. Well, it's almost 2 years since i bought my C5302, very satisfied with it's performance. Not the best 8mp camera i know..but music is good in term of speaker and earphone , beat LED = amazing..performance ?? Well it's dual core beast, mine clocked almost 27k in antutu benchmark...rarely it gets lag on heavy game. If you compare with Xiaomi redmi 2 , lenovo a6000 or galaxy e7, grand 2..clearly XSP above those 4 in term of performance. But maybe i have to make an upgrade since only vga front camera, TFT display and android stuck on 4.3..so bye SP..thank you

I've had this phone for near enough 18 months now and whilst it may not be the best in-class, it certainly makes it a great mid-range phone. The standout feature is the camera. The 8MB "box" view and 5MB "panoramic" view are brilliant and crisp. It also holds a lot of music where the Walkman app is more than enough. What doesn't do it justice is the lag when you start to fill the device up. So continually you have to keep transferring between the internal storage and the SD card. This is a bit tedious. In terms of functionality, its great. All the apps that are compatible with your device are listed easily on the Google Play Store. I would avoid their "Socialife" app as it's naff. I am a big fan of this brand as it has always made me enjoy my mobile. If you are looking for the most up-to-date and best phone on the market, this isn't it. If you are looking for an inexpensive way with good camera and picture features, then this is worth a shout. Make sure you use a case, its physically stronger than an iPhone but its still a touchscreen at the end of the day.

I will not recommend this phone as it is old now. It runs on android 4.3. It is better to get a phone with Kit Kat or Lollipop. It has a VGA front facing camera which can't use it for selfie, is blurry. The phone will get hot if u play games and surf the internet. The screen and camera is not as good as many new phones nowadays. If you are on a budget, you can take alook at some other brands like Xiaomi, One Plus One, Meizu, Vivo, Oppo, Lenovo and much other phones which has better camera and display. *BUY this phone only if you want it as a COLLECTION or LIMITED EDITION phone to keep it. Hey. 1 )You can try turning off your phone once a week for 10 minutes. So that it will clear up memory and fixed errors. Is like restarting your Computer and turning it off to rest. 2) You can use Sony's default theme, it may help. 3) Go to settings, click About Phone, scroll down to build number, tap it many times until it says "you are now a developer" After that, that is a new option above About Phone which is call "Developer option" press it and turn it on, scroll down to "transition animation" and change the 1.0x to 0.5x. There are 3 option, but change only "Transition" It will make your phone smoother. Try out this steps :)

If you are planning to get this phone in 2015. I will not recommend it as you won't be satisfied for the specs in 2015. The front facing camera is only VGA(0.3mp) so you won't be able to get a decent selfie. They are plenty of newer devices which are better with better screen and camera. This device only runs on 4.3 Jelly Bean. Is better to get a phone with Kit Kat or Lollipop. If you have bought this device or have been using it for 1-2 years. It is a solid and good phone. I like that phone, Only front camera is terrible. I did not face other problems except one with battery. I'm not using phone frequently. Anyway phone battery get empty after about 13h. I did try everything: - reset to factory settings - reinstall android - replace battery with new one - uninstall, disable some applications... it did not help One interesting fact! Hi! I'm the one that posted comment on 2015-03-26 21:56. I managed to save my phone and I will tell you how I did that. Firstly, when pressing the power button, the phone blinked a red light. It would not turn on. I wanted to flash stock ROM, but the phone would not be detected most of the time. When I got green light sometimes, after a while, the phone would disconnect and reboot. So this morning I tried again and got a blue light (phone was in fastboot mode). I flashed the boot.img file of CyanogenMod with Flashtool. The phone would still not turn on. So then I reconnected the phone to my PC and leave it. Didn't know what to do anymore. After a while I noticed a pattern: green light, Sony logo, reboot, red light. This process kept repeating. I remembered about recovery mode and I took my chance. From there, I did the usual wipe/reset and installed from sideload a new version of CyanogenMod. Now my phone is working again.

I do not recommend buying this. Phone easily overheats and lags. Front camera is terrible. The back cover is very flimsy. No upgrade to Android KitKat or later. I unlocked the bootloader and tested different ROMs. Not one stable version of Android did I found. After flashing and using CyanogenMod Nightly, my phone is bricked. It turned off by itself and now won't even charge. It just not worth it. I should have bought Moto G instead.

Rootur fone unlock the boot loader. Install twrp ten download cm12 googleapps the put it in your memory card. Turn off the phone. Go to twrp then. Wipe data wife cache partitionthen wipe the dalvik.then intall cm12. Add zip intall google apps.done. but i heared cm 12 gota lot of bugs try cm11 m11. This one works great.

I have to agree with these comments. Both my wife and myself got these phones last year and I have to say they are the worst performing phones we have ever had. Constantly freezing, lagging, unresponsive, ending calls prematurely, not being able to answer calls, blank screen and unable to hear/unable to be heard is a constant issue too. Maybe I am unlucky with this phone but surely not both phones. Cannot wait until I can upgrade in August. Ps, I have often wanted to throw this phone against a wall or out of the car. No more Sony phones for me!

Having owned a Lumia 820 before purchasing this xperia smartphone, I have to admit that there has not been a significant change, but a few things still make all the difference. The grandeur design will instantly lure you into acquiring an xperia sp. The phone has decent specifications, infact way better than most midrange phones in the market at the moment, the only setback being it's inability to run the latest android versions. I'm an average gamer but do lots of browsing round the clock, that can only mean i've got very limited number of downloaded apps and that could pecisely be the reason why i haven't experienced the phone freeezing despite just 1gig of RAM. The camera is not the best but still reasonably good though the front cam is a total letdown. The successor of this phone is xperia T3 but there isn't any significant change apart from the loss of LED strip, and a bigger screen with a lower ppi as well as increased number of cores with lower clock speeds. Though old in the market i'd still encourage you to buy this phone if at all newer android versions don't tickle your fancy

I don't know what reliable meant to the sales person, but a phone constantly freezing, turning music on at inconvenient times, and refusing to turn on when needed is not really my idea of reliable. The walkman app is really terrible for listening to music and I don't remember the last time I was able to enjoy a whole song comfortable without interruptions. I can't say any good things about the phone, yes it's a smartphone but it shouldn't have so many complications. It was really annoying to use and I was constantly frustrated. I finally had enough of it one day and I decided to smash it on the ground and step on it with my winter boots because it was just as useful shattered into a million pieces as it was in one whole piece. I now live a satisfied life with my new phone and the only thing I can recommend now is, "Spend the extra money!" Don't settle for months of inconvenience and agony.

Try turning off your phone for about 10 minutes. It will solve the lag. Camera, take pictures with led light on or use flash when is dark, download camera fv5 app, is excellent. If other problem u have, try updating your Xperia sp. I find the camera performs quite well with the right settings. Is really smooth, make sure to off the phone Once in awhile.

Dont try to install lollipop, cos perfect versions are not available. I tried 3 versions, one has data issue, the other two has problem with connecting to the network. As of now the devs are trying to create a stable ROM. So please wait and have patience. Kitkat is available but the default android ui looks ugly.

unlocking bootloader means you can flash custom roms which were not meant for your phone. xperia sp runs perfect in rooted stock firmware(latest) 4.1.2 or custom roms based on that firmware. rooted because u can overclock the default frequency of gpu and desired governer settings to run games like monster. best custom rom xperia pureness.(both lock and unlock bootldr).cheers :)

Great hardware. Tough build, strong glass screen, and good battery life. The Android 4.3 is garbage. Apps constantly freeze, or malfunction. Sony should have updated the software to fix the worst software I have ever tried to use; for it turns a great phone into junk. Serious bug in this phone. I use it as GPS in my car, so it is standing on the dashboard in landscape mode. Now when you want to call someone from your contact list, it simply doesn't work. Go to "contacts", you get the list with al your contacts in it. Select the person you would like to call. His or her phone number appears. Tapping on the phone number doesn't do anything. If you put the phone in portrait mode, then it works. It would surprise me that nobody discovered this bug before. Furthermore the GPS antenna sometimes doesn't work. In order to make it work, I have to shut down the phone and restart it. Quitting and relaunching the app using the GPS antenna doesn't do the trick. In Google chrome, the button at the bottom of the phone used to go to the previous web page sometimes doesn't respond. So I have to quit the browser and relaunch it. No more Sony for me I'm afraid.

I am not aware of any solution to the issue as such. One thing I have noticed is that sometimes, while using the phone for something, the battery percentage suddenly stops falling and remains stuck at that level for a while. This normally happens when the battery is above 40%, and after that the battery suddenly drains (especially during standby) when the level goes below 40%. Hence I just put the phone to charge once the battery touches 10-15% and not wait for it to go down to 4% or so.

That is one bug which even I have faced on the .205 firmware. Once the battery was 11% and a few seconds later it became 4% and just after that the phone got discharged. I have faced this issue several times and I noticed it happens only when the battery has fallen below 40%.

Beat light stopped but that was not working before too.only when u open music it would flicker,when display is off it stops flickering. Ignoring all the BAD reviews Finally I had taken the decision to experience XSP personally...So 2 days back I bought this phone in RED for about 150 USD, It is Running on 4.1.2 with firmware 12.0.A.2.254,so far My experience is Good. DESIGN,DISPLAY,SOUND,PERFORMANCE,BATTERY is Good.and no comments on LED STRIP....it looks always awesome..:) Camera is good in daylight but average in low light( in 150 USD I think it would be OK) I have encountered only one problem that was "THE PHONE RESTARTS WHILE DOING ANTUTU BENCHMARK" but this problem was occurred with ANTUTU 4 & 5... antutu 3 ran without any problem...then I installed antutu 4 again and "COSTUME BENCHMARK & UNCHECK CPU" antutu 4 completed without restarting it....I don't know whats the problem but i think it is software issue not hardware here anyone knows the reason please tell me. Hi. I've been using this phone for almost 14 months now and I can advised you all to don't get it now (since it's an old phone anyway) Updated to 4.3. Screen freezes for 5 seconds occasionally and turns yellowish. My phone is cuckoo now. Sometimes phone won't response when I press the power button. Apps closing and opening itself. Don't get me wrong. I'm no hater. I love this phone for the first 6 months. Great call quality. Strong durability. I would recommend people to just get the latest phone on the market or a flagship phone. Try to stay away from Sony mid range phone. I think I will be changing my phone to another brand. You can back up current system, upgrade to 4.3 of you choosing (.205, .207 -which are the same- or some previous version, but I personally don't recomend them, too unstable) and if not satisfied, downgrade back to the same 4.1.2 you had, and restore the backed up content. Up/downgrading are fairly straightforward processes and nothing to be affraid of, but you need to be carefull and pay close attention to the steps of the guide you follow.

Screen flickering is still very much present. Display will freeze for 2-3 secs only when the phone heats enough, sometimes multiple instances in a row (eg. 1hr or more of video playback or during some games - in short, a prolongued period of usage). I experienced 2 occurrences of autoreboot since upgrade to 205. Not much, but it can happen. There will be various problems, like, not possible to transfer files onto ext_sd through USB cable (even after reset), or Wi-Fi not working properly when in airplane mode. Lancher will surely redraw after virtually any web surfing, with any browser other than Opera Mini, IME. Camera, meaning pix quality, is a gigantic cr*p and no amount of new code is gonna fix that.

MTK base phone are not that powerful when compared to qualcomm's offerings. but due to software optimization issue on SP it looks more sluggish than MTK based phones. yes it's true, the initial 4.3 update on SP made it lag a lot, but it was now fixed by the .205 firmware update. on the .207 update which i am using right now i can still notice some lags here and there. the phone only heats up when using mobile data and mobile data+games, the max temp I encountered is 38 degrees celsius. don't worry though all phones does heats up. I didn't encounter battery drain issue, my phone can last 2 days without mobile data. but only 1 day with mobile data and online games around 4%. personally i would choose qualcomm than MTK. but depending on your choices MTK based phone may be better than SP.

If you update to 4.3 then the service center may or may not downgrade it to 4.1. In my case, in May last year the 12.1.A.1.201 firmware (previous to .205) was unstable and had serious performance issues but the service center people refused to downgrade it, saying that "it is not their policy" to downgrade phones. Some other people on this thread said that the service center in their place downgraded it for them so I can't say if they will do it in your place. If they don't then you will have to unlock the bootloader of the phone (which voids the warranty) and manually flash the stock 4.1.2 ROM.

Zenfone 2 looks good too. but I totally understand why you want xperia SP, It looks really beautiful. SP is good for playing music specially if you attached a speaker dock on it and let the LED light illuminate while playing looks amazing, however the phone's speaker is not that loud, so buying a speaker dock is a great idea (philips Fidelio AS140), watching video is good sony's Bravia engine enhance the color so it looks good. Camera is OK, you just need to tweak the settings a little. in my opinion you should just go get other phones, but if you really like SP it's not a really bad choice.

The motorola moto g 2nd gen is also a better option since it has a bigger display and stereo speakers for better sound and is overall better for watching movies. Both phones have good interfaces in my opinion but the moto also has better update support. Of course the asus zenfone 2 would be worth the wait since it has an even bigger and sharper display and is also way ahead in terms of processing power. Whether you prefer zen UI or not depends on you though.

Performance-wise this .205 firmware is slightly better than the 4.1.2 firmware, as the stutters in the user interface have been reduced. However, the RAM use has gone up by quite a bit (around 300-350 MB used to be free on 4.1 while it is around 220-280 MB on 4.3). Also the entire settings menu colour has changed to white in 4.3 which looks bad but that is entirely my personal opinion and yours might differ. The look of the rest of the interface is a slight improvement over 4.1 but nothing major. Overall it is an improvement but if you do gaming (real racing 3 still crashes though), multitasking and if you don't want a white background UI then better stick to 4.1 and if you aren't a multitasker then 4.3 should do okay though there are still some lags.

the .205 update is good, phone became more stable. but you can still notice some lags here and there. i'm currently using the final .207 BTW. Honestly just invest on other phones, SP is quite old now with the same price you can get Xiaomi Mi3 or even Mi4. the newly announced Asus Zenfone 2 also has better specs with cheaper price.

That used to happen on the .266 and .201 firmwares on android 4.3 since they were unstable firmwares, I haven't faced any such issues on the older 12.0.A.2.254 (android 4.1.2) firmware or the .205 one that my phone currently has. So first do check your firmware version.

I rooted my device, I also installed CM11 4.4.4 but i didnt like the interface so reverted to the stock ROM. On XDA forums read that CM12 is released but its quite unstable. Also the developer lost his phone so the ROM development is now stopped. Day before yesterday there is a new ROM released Resurrection Remix but this is also unstable. Have had this phone for 18 months now. I have to say that unfortunately it's the worst phone I've ever had. It's extremely laggy (yes I run a cache cleaner/memory cleaner/task killer and everything else that seems necessary on Android), all of the paint on the aluminium chassis/bezel peels off with the slightest touch (I've always had a case on it though so it would be completely devoid of paint if I'd hadn't had a gel case). The camera is just horrifyingly bad indoors, but is better outside, although still suffers with noise. The screen is awful - the viewing angles are so bad it's like trying to read a calculator screen at 45 degrees. LCD is just not cutting it against OLED now, and the battery drains quicker than my shower's plughole. It's put me off Android for life as well - after the first update the LED notification bar didn't work anymore (unless you unlocked the phone - bit pointless then!) but a subsequent update now allows it to flash (white only when locked although you could previously set different colours for different contacts etc.) Is actually really annoying as your bedroom looks like a disco at night if you get an Email - it actually wakes you up it's so bright, and the internal memory is so small you have to be really choosy about what you install (two good games and that's it). A memory card is 100% necessary if you want to put music on this thing. I've just changed to the Lumia 920 and it's such a relief - it's fantastic.

whew you're wrong on both. he can update to lollipop by rooting the phone but at the moment i think the latest is still kitkat for SP. and the official update is 4.3 not 4.2.3

This phone is good until you discover this problem which will probably tempt u to throw this phone. This problem is common to many xperia sp users as i found out on the internet. The screen turns off during use and then it vibrates thrice. The phone wouldn't turn on even after pressing the power button. It would just vibrate thrice and nothing. What is more irritating about this problem is that it just comes out of the blue. Yesterday it would be running fine and the next day you would find urself facing this problem. I don't think they do much at the service center. They probably factory reset the whole phone and give it back and charge you like hell(In my case the problem occured just one month after the guarantee period was over...Hard luck :( ) and one would face this problem again. My advice,leave this phone alone and look for alternatives.

I'd like to mention some disadvantages of Sony Xperia SP : 1-The applications can't be transferred to the SD card which is making the phone slower and hangs after installing many apps. 2-The internal storage isn't 8GB as mentioned, it's 5.37GB including the phone apps which is decreasing the storage capacity for the users to install more apps and games on the phone. 3-After activating the mobile apps, it'll be loading over the ram which is decreasing the capacity of it, plus the ram capacity is less than 1GB. 4-There's no use of SD card in SP cause it has been designed to handle the videos and images and music only.

I agree with @XperiaSp that SP does have a better GPU, but Moto G 2014 manages its RAM better and should do better at games (I have played real racing 3 and asphalt 8 on both phones). The zenfone 5, according to me, is your best option since it has 2GB RAM, the GPU is as good as the Moto G and the CPU is also as good as the Moto. If audio and fast updates are important then the Moto G makes more sense, otherwise I would say the zenfone 5 is your best option.

Go for either moto or SP. Xperia SP has a better GPU and CPU however Moto G 2014 has an overall smoother performance. Zenfone 5 should be your last option.

what i love about this phone: the size, the notification light strip (though it doesnt last long, one of the LEDs had already gone cuckoo by only displaying green light all the time), and i love most: THE BATTERY CAPACITY what i hate about this phone: SLOW SLOW SLOW!!!!! LAG like **** especially after wifi is turned on. even if wifi is not on, it takes hella long to even open up message.if i lock it when it's lagging, it wont turn back on if i press the lock button again. it requires a few tries of lock button spamming -_- the camera sucks too. the back camera focusing just sucks big time. the quality of pic captured wasn't detailed enough compared to my old xperia go. color wasn't nice and the details blurry. and the front cam... it's just VGA so it sucks very badly. also, the loudspeaker wasn't as loud as xperia go. a turn off for music lover like me. i really love sony phones for the design and shape, but the usability of the phone sucks. my previous phone, xperia go, which i loved for the water-resistant quality and the loudspeaker and the camera (though the focusing is damned slow but the picture quality always comes out nice), unfortunately had some problems with the touch screen: the left and right sides (q/1 and p/0 of the keyboard) couldn't be detected. the touchscreen was a fail. conclusion: i guess i should stop using sony... but samsung, htc, lenovo or whatsoever aren't my choice. i'll probably go for iphone though much pricier that what i usually get but it's probably gonna be worth it

yeah, i remember the old days when i had that problem too, I too posted the same but that was during the first 4.3 update [ 0.266 ] and the next .201 update. however it was fixed with .205 and .207 update. if I may ask which firmware do you have?

This phone is the worst smartphone I have ever had. It is beautiful, looks solid, and has a nice screen. After 2 updates by Sony, it has become very slow. When the screen is in standby, it takes approx 1 minute to wake it up. Start up sms: 40 to 50 seconds. Start Facebook : 1 to 2 minutes. It is a shame that Sony puts such horrendously slow mobile on the market. And my phone is only 2 months old !! Deleting all unwished apps did not change anything. This phone is not work 100 dollars. To be avoided at all costs.

hmm well i can say xperia ZR is fast and snappy with 4.2, however honestly i don't know if it's as fast as moto X since i haven't touched and used moto X yet. but since moto x is running a stock android version then it may be a bit faster than ZR, but overall ZR is already fast even with sony UI added on it (having 2GB of ram really helps a lot). so I can't complain about that, -for me i do like 4.3 specially the ability to choose a wide variety of themes but i guess it's your personal preference though.

Hey man wanted to know whether xperia zr's performance till android 4.2 is as fast as the 2013 moto x. Actually the moto x has been discontinued in my country but still wanted to know whether the zr is equally fast (on 4.2) as the feedback I got about the moto x is excellent. Since zr uses a customized interface wanted to know if it is that fast or not. I won't be updating zr beyond 4.2 as I hate the look of the interface from 4.3 onwards (I learnt my lesson with sp and I ignored z ultra for the same reason).

At last i sold my Xperia sp and get snappy moto droid mini its way faster and smoother then xperia sp ,also droid mini has good multiple apps tasking and price are same here of both sp and mini ,now my droid mini has official 4.4.4 kitkat soon it will get next year 2015 Android 5.0 , xperia sp let down only with 4.3 jelly bean with poor performance and zero multitasking. While SP is cheap for its listed specs, some things you just can't put on paper, you have to experience them first-hand. You'll find earspeaker unconfortable during calls. Because of top-most location, the phone's edge will "cut" into your ear exterior. Main camera is bad, no way around it. Quite awfull quality of pics and vids, even in bright daylight. Don't have to trust me, go to gsmarena's cam comparison tool (especially compare with measly HTC 310 on colour pane). And cam software is poor, hardly any settings beyond basic. Phone's stock software is appalingly empty. Feature- and options-lacking, with speed being the only upside (which isn't always there). You'll need equal number or more taps and gestures to perform actions than on other phones with other android skin. Signal strength could be better, it's just below average, IMO. 1GB isn't enough on stock FW. Mandatory Launcher redraws, especially after any web surfing (no matter the browser, I tried with chrome, ff, opera, maxthon,...). And I keep a verrrry neat system, froze and stopped all the background apps & services I could find. Seriously, there is no room here to list all difficulties this phone has. In fairness, not everything is bad, it has reedeeming characteristics, ofc, but my 2c: just go with Xiaomi Mi3. It has similar price, but much higher qualities.

I immediately did a factory reset after getting .205 update in mid-june this year and for the next month or so performance was actually spectacular. But slowly it became worse and by october it became crap. Even though I did a factory reset after that, I didn't see the performance improve this time. I have already decided to root the phone and install cyanogenmod 11 nightly anyway.

This phone's performance sucks. Lag is common during normal usage (or because I am a heavy multitasker). The camera is also just average and real racing 3 tends to crash due to less RAM available. I would recommend checking out the 2nd gen moto g, or if you can stretch your budget then you can go for the xperia zr or the 2013 moto x, which are much better phones overall.

I have this phone for almost 1 yr and I love this phone.. Others called this as the King of Mid-range smartphones (no wonder :) ref: unbox.ph.. Stop comparing it to High-end phones coz it's pointless!! OK?! The down side of this phone is it's front camera which is VGA only. If you want to unlock its full performance then upgrade to android 4.3 with firmware .207 for it is stable than ver. 4.2 which has many bugs.. It can handle high-end games but you can't store plenty of high-end games coz it only has a limited internal storage w/c is 8GB. if you want to use your SD card for storage you need to be rooted and I suggest use Lock Boot Load only and install xposed installer and OBB to SD card module. I don't recommend this phone for heavy gamers like me use a tablet instead. For me this is the BEST Mid-range smartphone for me. :)

I don't think Xperia M2 is better than SP. although i like the Xperia M2 aqua it resembles the look of Xperia Z1 and is waterproof. but xpeira SP has a faster CPU and Better GPU. you should have recommended Xperia ZR instead :)

overall performance i'll say go for xperia sp, better processing power, better for graphic intense task/game. has more and larger battery capacity. Xperia T is also a nice phone to have, has stereo speakers, more internal storage. but i think SP is just better overall.

Some of the applications were partially functional. But since a lot of were not happy and satisfied from earlier OTA updates on the handset, I waited till 12.1.A.1.205 update came in 2. With this new update , I have realized following changes : (a)UI is much cleaner . (b)There is almost no lag. (c)The themes are much more pleasant . (d)Ram management has definitely improved in gaming.(e)The white background in settings is more adorable. (f)Ambient light sensor now is working properly. (g)The new walkman update has enabled equiliser options which were not present earlier on . (h)THOUGH , THE BEST IMPROVEMENT IN SEEN IN CAMERA APP WICH IS NOW TAKING 3 TIMES BETTER PICTURES THAN BEFORE. (i)A new sketch app is very useful as well as entertaining . OVERALL , THIS UPDATE IS REALLY WORTH IT . YOU WONT REGRET INSTALLING IT . AND LAST BUT NOT THE LEAST , GIVE MORE SUGGESTIONS THAN FIGHTING FOR COMPARISON.

well if you really want a good anti virus app, then AVG anti virus should be good enough. it is free and protects your phone when browsing the web and does auto scan your files for any suspicious and harmful files including text message. RAM was almost 150-190 free. I was not happy with the mod so i reverted to the stock SONY firmware. I tried installing some of the cool themes but the stock theme Halo(dont remember the name) some of the options were not overridden by the new theme. Anyways the stock ROM felt better to me than the Cyanogenmod.

After a long research i rooted my phone and installed Android Kitkat 4.4.4 CyanogenMod 11. Touch is nice and smooth. But all the SONY related enhancements like Bravia engine etc wont be available, infact radio is also missing. Quite disappointed that there are no themes the complete look and feel of Xperia is lost. Moreover i'm new to rooting and modding so i'll updated on the same.

If I was to compare the nexus 5 with the xperia z, nexus 5's battery life will be worse than the z, loudspeaker performance is just as bad. However, nexus 5 has a way, way more powerful chipset, much faster updates (its getting lollipop in end-november, while xperia z will get it not before april next year). Also, the lollipop update is only the 2nd update for the nexus 5, so it will surely get the next version of android after lollipop, whenever it comes. I would say go for nexus 5 if you can live with the average battery life, otherwise go for htc one m7 if its in your budget. If neither option works out only then go for xperia z.

Yeah looks like xperia z is your only option now. The htc one (M7) is a great alternative IF it is within your budget. Metal body, stereo speakers, great display and great interface. I wouldn't recommend going for htc one mini because the chipset and RAM are no match for xperia z. Also, the mini has only 16 gb non-expandable storage. Looking at your needs, best option is htc one m7 if its within your budget. Else, go for xperia z.

yeah due to waterproofing of xperia Z, speaker is affected. in terms of display samsung really has good display panels, but since you said you don't like amoled then the only phone i can think of is nexus 5, which cost much lesser on playstore, if playstore is not available in your country then htc one mini good display great speakers great desgin 0 lag but battery is not that much though. may also be a bit pricey in some countries. as per your latest post I'll agree just go for xperia Z. it's a good choice.

.....isn't waterproof either. The new htc desire 820 is similar to the note 3 neo and its battery life will still be better than xperia z (not as good as the neo though). Its got stereo speakers too and the chipset is again better than xperia z. In my country all 3 devices are in a similar price range. SP should be better in paper due to having better processor and GPU, SP has better display panel too. but M2 has better battery management and if you want 0 lag then go for M2. camera of both are the same. personally choose M2 aqua. looks great and waterproof, you won't really feel the difference the advantage of dual core krait of SP because the quadcore of M2 is also good. so in real life performance you won't notice the difference. it should run smoothly and fast

2330 mAh may be small, but the new 4.4.4 kitkat is optimized to consume as little battery power as possible. also it should last a whole day with regular to heavy use, although you might find your battery below the 10% mark when the day ends with heavy use.

There isn't much difference between performance in the latest 4.3 firmware (12.1.A.1.205) and android 4.1 (12.0.A.2.254). This also means that performance hasn't been improved as much, though it isn't worse. You can check out the interfaces of phones like the xperia z1 or so to see if you like them. If yes, update your phone, otherwise you are better off with 4.1.

Has anyone ever got a dualband wifi N connection with this phone? The best I get is 72 mbps with proven dual-band routers. Add to that 5GHz freqs that are never present, or "seen". Did the gsmarena screwed up the specs? If Airplane mode is active, Wifi perfs go abysmal. It literarly goes dumb. With AP on, the phone will interconnect with a router only the first time and it will function horribly. But if you try a reconnection, you HAVE to turn off the Airplane mode to get a functioning wifi again. It will not cooperate unless you do that. DFQ are they doing at Sony software department?!

Asus zenfone 5 (16 gb variant preferably), xolo play 8x-1100, or moto g 2nd gen (if you want stock android with fast updates). Don't go for sp, web browsing performance is average, internal storage sucks if you are going to install lot of heavy games (real racing 3 also crashes due to low available RAM), multitasking sucks (because of bad RAM management), audio quality is good but loudness is not good enough.

I like the size of Z3 compact, Z2 is just too big for me, but z2 has a full HD screen, bigger battery and more ram, even though z3 compact uses 801AC chip in real life performance it doesn't differ too much from 801AB chip of Z2, so i think i can sacrifice that for more ram. specs i'll go for Z2, but if i were to buy a phone i might choose Z3 compact for being smaller.

it'll depend on the dealer that you'll buy the phone from. MOST dealers sells the phone that were shipped with the original stock OS. newer batch may shipped with the updated OS. but i'll say 90% of the chance is that you'll get a ZR with the stock 4.1 android version, i haven't seen that many dealers that sells phone with the updated version. they always sells the phone with the orignal android version in it. so you'll just need to update your phone.

Xolo play 8x-1100 is anyday better than sp. Bigger display, twice the RAM, twice the internal storage, faster chipset, better rear camera. Only sp's gpu is better than the 8x-1100 but its a waste because the bad RAM management in any case spoils sp's gaming performance. Atleast the xolo with more RAM will give better real life performance in gaming and other areas too.

.205 is a stable update, so yes update your phone. it's better to update directly using the phone, because it is faster updating directly on the phone, if it doesn't allow you then use pc companion.

Good phone. It can connect with USB Mouse, keyboard, USB HUB, Flash drives if you have a micro-usb to usb connector. Battery backup last in 1.5 - 2 day with normal usage. Taken pictures of back camera is not in super quality.

yeah man...! zr is expensive than z is due to removable battery.... and limited stock...xsp costs about 240 usd...yeah dude...i am also considering to buy xperia z...after getting the news from sony about xperia sp kitkat updates .... i got a lesson that "wait and buy only flagship"...and i also advice you to do same that i am doing right now....in my country my elders told me..."the fruit of patience is very sweet...".. so my friend thats why i will wait when prices will gone down of xperia z2 or z3 probably in 2016 they will more affordable to me.....like xperia z at the time of launch it is about 650-600 usd.... and now after 1.5 years it is about 300 usd....:) thanks alot.... your are doing great job.... help people god will help you.....salute to gsm arena who gave us such a nice platform to discuss the devices and respect for you .... thanks man...:)

wow ZR cost 380USD in your country? how come it's much expensive than xperia Z? xpeira Z should cost more than ZR. in my country it only cost around 300USD now ( on online shops and other stores in the mall, not on official sony store though as it's much pricey there ) .how much does SP cost in your country? if your're planning to buy Z2 or Z3 then i suggest you to buy Xperia Z considering it only cost 300 USD in your country. flagship phone, better in any aspects than xperia SP.

I'm warning u that 4.2 never released for sp. M2 is good alternative coz sp is out of sony service period. Sp has better gpu but i think m2 also can perform like sp coz it has quad-core cpu and advantage of future software update however u can't never feel the illumination effect of sp from m2. XPERIA M2 250USD XPERIA Z 300 USD XPERIA ZR 380 USD XPERIA Z2 500 USD xperia z3 850 USD (My main COncerns are DISPLEY>Battery>PERFORMANCE>DESIGN) I ALSO planned to Buy Z2 or Z3 in 2016...:P....:) So for 2015 XPERIA Z,ZR,M2 ARE left behind....which one will become my secondary phone after buying Z2 or Z3..... Latest firmware update got my sd card write-protected. Can't take photos immediately because of it. I need to unmount then mount the sdcard so I can take photos or delete/move anything on my sd card.

peformance wise i'll say SP is not up to the competition now, try playing kritika, it's a graphic intense game, the phone will lag and force close a lot. camera is great in good lighting condition low light is OK, front camera is not great. battery will last the whole day on a single charge (includes gaming,browsing,music playback). as i said earlier i suggest you to buy other phone like Xperia ZR, or if not Xperia Z. quad core krait phones with 2GB of ram and better 13mp camera. will play even the graphic intense games properly.

I do not charge my phone with note 3 charger everytime. It's an emergency charger for me whenever i need charging my phone quick then i use it otherwise 3 hours is not that bad. I advise everyone never charge your cell with 2 Amp charger because none of the phone is using this yet this is only for tablets. It can harm your battery. 1 amp charger is best for Xp as many Samsung phones are using this power of charger.

its performance is medium(fast but sometimes it lags a lot) , camera is average(front is terrible), battery life is very good but all in all i woulndt recommend this phone. i have wi fi issue that really annoying and it doesnt give me pleasure to use my phone.

I heard that Fast Charging degrade the life of battery..... so it id better to charger it with it original charger... I have Tested same thing with my HTC sensation XE using 5v-2Amp Charger and after a couple of weak battery had gone fatter..... so my advise to you always charge it with it own charger....

guys my xperia sp was working, because of an unfortunate accident it fell down from 5th to 3rd floor and the display got damaged i get all colours in ma display, actually weneva i see my mobile i'm filled with grieve... wen taken to xperia service center they are charging 11,500 for repairing... pls someone say me an alternative... thanks in advance

really note 3's charger is 1500mah? i didn't know that, guess i'll be buying a note 3's charger for faster charge. but at the moment i think 3 hours charging time is not really a problem. it's just fine with me.

Xp charger is of 850 mah and our battery is 2370 mah of power. Now you can calculate 3*850 = 2550 mah means almost 3 hours. I do use note 3 charger which output is 1500 mah 1500*2=3000 means 1 and half hour. Do try this it's 100% working.

Great screen (for the price), almost retina quality, poor sunlight legibility to the point that nothing on the screen is visible in strong lighting conditions, weak audio output from the external speaker as well as with headphones. Records at unacceptable levels. Crappy build quality; I've had my Xperia for only 6 months and the silver paint which coats the aluminum frame is already chipping off badly and the camera lens is terribly scratched, resulting in blurry captures. I'm currently thinking about exchanging this for a dual SIM phone that might be more serviceable and less prone to damages.

I am using the XSP for 10 months now and still is going pretty good. For all who have a problem with hangups, backup important things and data and do a factory reset. it's takes 20 minutes top and you will have a no problems phone. i like that sony made the program with backup. i think that i will keep the phone for another year even if not gets kitkat.

I am having no issues in 4.3 update i am on .205!! Phone lags a bit when wifi is turned on after 2 or 3 hours but it becomes smooth after couple of minutes!! Overall it is a great mid ranger people who are complaining about are advised to update their apps regularly for smooth working!!!
