Design is good...has good finish thanks to the aluminium frame. Problem with touch screen started at right edge and progressed to all 4 sides. The touch issue started after 1 year of purchase. Believe it or not i used to play pubg in this phone. Although the graphics settings were low and stuttered at times, I could manage to play the game. During the last days of the phone, left and right edges of screen started displaying burned marks. Also during this time, when phone is plugged in for charging, I could feel tingling sensation when I touched the aluminium frame, which was due to the current leakage

I myself are truly disappointed by my Sony XA1. My right edge side is dead and sometimes responsive, cant type p or delete stuff. Playing some games is terrible. From all my Sony phones this one is gonna make me walk away from the brand. Wife walked away and I am next so will my friends be.

I've had this phone for about two years now and I'm probably never going to buy another Sony phone. I had its screen replaced twice during warranty, battery just dies no matter what you do. It overheats if you play games on it. Some of the core issues this phone has are : screen malfunctioning, bad battery life. Other than that it's an alright phone but I don't recommend it in 2019 or onward. The back camera is really great. It makes some high quality pictures but that's about it.

I will never purchase a Sony phone again. The non-replaceable battery on the phone died within the one year warranty period and I managed to have the phone fixed after a long wait. The battery started malfunctioning again a few months later after the warranty had expired. The phone no longer charges. Learn from my mistake and buy an inexpensive phone with a replaceable battery.

i also had the touch screen issue with my XA1. But after sending to warranty service, they replaced the screen for free and the problem never happen since (october 2018). it almost a year now and i hope touch screen problem will never come back. it haunted me somehow 😅

It's much better than any J model from Crapsung (aka Samsung). Most performance mid-low end Xperia model ever. Some issues are fixable, but indeed it's not for fools. I and 3 friends have this model for more than one year. It's perfect!

Never go for this phone, even for all Sony Mobiles, Touch screen issue, Speaker issue, Charging Issue, No data transmitting via cable, I bought two one for my friend and these are in still under warranty both started giving problems within single week.

had for almost my full two year contract sales rep at the time said "this is such a great phone". bought in october 2017, by january (3 months later) camera stopped focusing. went to my provider and the phone rep told me because my warranty was over that the only option was to in his words "smash the screen and send it in to be repaired". didnt do that because uhm no thanks. it was an alright phone and did its job, charging became slower as time progressed. went in and got a new phone a couple days ago (back to samsung) and the rep told me that sony no longer sells phones in canada because they are junky. oh well lesson learned

There is something wrong for some devices with the kernel of the on/off button that affects the screen and also the proximity. Flashed it and used only the proximity to turn on and off by a third party app... The procedure it's more complicated because in my experience there are different issues by different devices and their serial numbers. The simplest conclusion is to flash it with the 'for journalists ftf' from xperifirm\flashtool, use it without touching the buttons mostly the on/off one and also use a keyboard using predictive flow touch. I have three XA1 dual devices for more than 3 years among my friends and they are faster than any Crapsung's J model. Cheers!

Worst purchase ever. Display has multiple issues - didn`t work near the edges and colours faded (like burnt) changed the display once, same issue re-appeared after a couple of months. Now the charger port is not working properly....

Don't buy this phone. It has touchscreen issues. If you replace the screen, it is only a matter of time until the new screen also develops issues. It's an unaddressed design flaw, and there are literally tens of thousands of people who have complained about this problem. It was a very enjoyable phone until the symptoms showed up. They got progressively worse over a two week period. Phone is now completely unusable. There is some talk of a class action suit, but that's all I know.

The camera quality is very good. There's a manual mode that I can take a better photo in different condition. Besides, the screen is not so good, it's really bad at the edge of the phone. Don't really recommend if you want to buy a sony mid-range phone with the edged screen.

Don't buy the phone. It has a screen problem. I replaced the screen and the new one started showing the same issues after a few months. Except that, it's a great phone :)

As with other owners my phone took to powering down for no reason and would turn on again only with the power cable plugged in. Now it's off permanently - will not turn on. Period. Sony Australia refuse too help because I bought the phone overseas. This is a common problem.

I have xa1 for almost a year and a half. I was very happy with this phone until now. I see I'm not the only one who have problems with the screen. The edges of the screen dont work properly and its very annoying. Sometimes I can't unlock my phone because the screen doesn't work. Its my 3rd sony phone...I always wanted to have only sony but now I'm slowly changing my mind. I am so sorry. I was hoping it will last 2 years minimum because buying a new phone is not in my plans this year. I am so disappointed.

DO NOT BUY. I bought a brand new one, october 2018: -right from the start the compass never worked. Regardless of calibrations, apps etc -very shitty speakeR. Not speakerS. You can barely hear anything in a quiet room at home, let alone in a crowded room. 100% impossible in traffic. -biggest issue by far is that the left and right edge of the screen, vertical strips are now 100% dead. -the top of the screen, the notifications won't slide down. On screen lock it does. Once unlocked, it doesn't. It used to work 20% of the time but now 0%. -note that I almost never use my phone, I don't install things, yet these things happen. Heck, I don't even bother to connect it to PC and copy photos, I almost never make phone calls. Yet it easily breaks. I can't press the P button on the keyboard. All this after only 6 months? Also the screen has a big scratch. No idea how since I don't even use it anymore. I don't keep it around sharp metal objects. For 50$ or less (definitely less) it's worth it. For 250$ that I paid for GTFO. Thank you for your low quality product. I had such high hopes, yet this is the most disappointing phone I ever owned. 10 years(ish) later my iphone 4 has none of these issues but too bad I hate apple products.

FOR THOSE HAVING (edges) touch probem anything is working fine , and the worst thing is swiftkey keyboard try something else, google keyboard may solve the issue lets take a look at my phone (no touch problem here) i didnt upgrade to android 8 yet, and - more important - i dont let heavy games/apps eat battery/cpu/memory while they are not supposed to be running how? ok let me explain this: when you exit an app you think its done but its NOT!! it stiil is eating phone resources in the background if there are some heavy apps they make phone laggy , thats android big BUG!!, this can affect touch process , to avoid this go to settings -> apps and force stop them , this will solve the problem hopefully

This is a very good phone and does a good job. I don`t have all the problems other people are saying. After the update to Oreo 8, it is advisable to install the google keyboard to iron out any touch screen issues. Great camera, great sound and a great screen. What else could you want? For the price, it`s a reliable workhorse and I have no issues with it. There seems to be a lot of trolls on here who really don`t appreciate that this is a phone, not a computer.

It's my fifth with them and I'm abandoning Sony forever for this incredibly bad mobile. The screen fails every time, I can't write "a" or "p" on WhatsApp because they are on the edge of the screen, it's by far the worst buy I've ever made in smartphones. The camera is not as good as the previous Xperia also, it was supposed to be an improvement and I miss the previous one so much, and it was from two years before. Very bad Sony, you're making your phones worst than the previous ones, goodbye.

Very Good phone. I don't know what the other users are having problems with this phone. USB-C, holds battery good, beautiful camera at 24 MP, and I've rarely had any problems with this phone. If you take care of it, the phone will take care of you. Simply put, its much better than my cracked up Samsung Galaxy J3 Luna Pro.

I bought this for the 23MP camera, but the screen and processor doesn't seem to be able to handle it. There's a delay of a few seconds between each shot, which doesn't sound like much, until you need to take quick burst shots. When viewing images, they take around 30 seconds for them to actually load their full quality. The front facing camera is really poor unless you're standing in direct sunlight or really bright lights. Bloatware and apps which you can't uninstall. When having more than one app open, and wanting to switch between them, such as Google, Images, and Facebook, instead of taking you back to where you left off, it just resets the app, which is frustrating. Trying to drag app icon to a different page is almost impossible; you drag the icon to the edge of the screen, and either nothing happens, or it tries to create a folder with another app. Edges of the screen seem less sensitive than the rest of the screen. Randomly disconnects from bluetooth, especially when Wi-Fi is enabled. Randomly fails to recognise SD card, and has "corrupted" mine twice, losing all my photos and videos. Keyboard can be a bit laggy. When swiping to unlock, it sometimes doesn't recognise a full swipe of the screen, and I have to keep swiping a number of times until it displays the PIN screen. This is my first Sony phone, so I'm not sure if it's phone specific or brand specific issues, but I regret buying it.

Honestly worst phone I've had this is my 3rd time having a Sony phone other 2 where brilliant I got this in June since then it's been sent away 3 times I've had the phone 4 months altogether got it back 8 hours ago it randomly turns off only turns on with a charger will turn off if you disconnect the charger to soon after a while this stopped working the first time second time it worked 2 days of connecting a charger then dead the last time I walked from the store to my car and it stared again all they do is a software update and that's it so I will say save your time and money this phone is terrible I've to go back to the store tomorrow and I'll be getting a Samsung never had an issue been using my S5mini as a backup and I've had it years apart from the battery being shot it's great and I worked on a farm when I had that it's fell of roofs its fell in wet mud been soaked in me pocket ran over by sheep and it's still going all these years later so disappointed in sony oh and trying to use the P is a nightmare aswell and the emojis are terrible too overall I'd rather walk around with a landline up me hole

I have tried many of the calibration techniques shown in the sonymobile FAQ, however I still have touch problems on the sides (particularly right side), top and bottom. When I am playing a game, I cannot swipe up the home buttons (before I used to be able to do it, after exhausting moments of trying). Also I cannot pull the notification bar down. This is very annoying as there are many phones that have exceptional screen quality for the same price. Another thing that I wanted to point out is that in the GSM Arena review on the Sony Xperia Xa1, it said that it takes less than a second for the camera to pop out after pressing the button. That is not true and it takes at least 5 seconds for me. Going back to Sony, the whole camera button is a gimmick, because now, in Android 8 (Oreo), almost everyone phone has the option for a camera button. (All you need to do is double tap the power button very quickly.

-how do I check my text messages? Serious question. I can find the call history but not sms history -compass doesn't work. Tried with several apps, tried the weird figure of 8 thing that makes me look like a moron. -alarm stops randomly if you move your phone slight. Sometimes. Sometimes it doesn't and just goes on and on and on and on and on and ooooon and it repeats after 5 minutes just SHUT THE HELL UP ALREADY. -camera button is at the lower bottom so if you hold with your right hand the phone (which most do) you might turn on the camera by accident. -constantly have to disable software update app because sony wants to download their malware. No thanks. -3 gb ram and 1 gb ram wasted doing nothing -one speaker that gets immediately muffled when holding the phone horizontally. Other than, decent phone I guess. Nothing impressive like being able to record phone calls. No thanks I don't want a 3rd party app that I pay for or constantly shows ads. It doesn't even have a notepad, wtf?

i think i have to concur with others. i also experience problem to click x on the corner screen. i have to rotate my phone horizontally before i able to click. otherwise im happy woth other performance, given with cheaper price... the battery is short lived. usually batery will be out at 5pm....or even earlier at 1pm if actively used

I've had the same issue as others where the sides of the screen are faulty, I can't press the 'p' and when I have an 'x' in a window on the top left or right it doesn't respond I have to keep rotating the phone to see if I can push it then. Also the swipe down from the top with the notification area doesn't work, it works in lockscreen but when you are in the phone it doesn't which means everytime I have to view a notification I have to press the power button to go to lock screen and then swipe down. I would avoid this phone.

Never had a problem me and my friends using this device, over a year of usage. Camera is very versatile and with third party apps and settings is the cheapest and most performance module on the market. Now this model is the cheapest among Chinese/Korean made crap and most marketed models. Best device still available!

I have had a Sony XA1 for 18 months now, my third Xperia, and until recently it has performed very well. Alas, as others have stated, I am now having problems with the touch on the extreme sides of the screen. When texting, etc, the letter 'P' does not work! The only way to type a text is to turn it landscape, therefore avoiding the sides of the touch screen. It is a shame that Sony cannot come forward and agree, that so many have complained of this problem it clearly is a fault with their phone! Come on Sony, step up to the plate and at least admit this issue is real and known. Beware of other posters who are clearly anti-Sony! And, given that Apple have now over $100 billion in cash assets, who would want to pay the high profit margin prices of an iphone!

Bought my Xperia XA1 just a couple of months after it's release - something I won't do again since there were only a handful of reviews then and it was all positive so I had to experience the issues myself. I am still a loyal Xperia fan though and will in fact be getting another model - hopefully, I will make a better choice this time. Major issue for me is the screen - after a few months of excellent performance it just started failing. Either it would have random movements or the side parts wouldn't move at all. BTW I also dropped it (not too high) and the screen cracked easily. Had it replaced but encountered the same issue after 3 months of screen replacement. I paid almost a third of the unit price for the new screen. Another issue is the battery life but compared to the annoying screen issue, this was tolerable. So, I wouldn't suggest you getting this phone because of the known screen issue. Get the better ones in the same range, I guess. But camera, audio, and all other functionalities still work for me hence my decision to stick with Sony. :)

Do not buy this phone. There are serious touch screen issues after the Oreo update, and I am having a heck of a time getting any fix to this issue. Sent my phone into Sony, noting that FedEx, not Sony, was able to email me a RMA email. Sony tried sending a RMA email from Bogota Columbia over a dozen times, but could not for some reason. How is that for customer service??!! Just as well, because every time I call customer service I cannot understand their VERY broken English. Do yourself a favor and buy any other brand phone except SONY! Never again....

Don't buy it. Not worth the money. I bought it and its sides don't work...even the back button does not work. I really do not recommend it to anyone.. I'm a Sony fangirl but seriously Sony phones r really going downhill. They better do something about the quality. It's such a waste cause Sony has like the most kickass and beautiful designs but they're quality is not really there. I really hope Sony improves their quality and does well. I have XA1 with latest official Android and I have difficulties connection it to either PC or pendrive. I tried the original Sony cable which usually is used for charging - nothing, PC doesn't see the phone, phone only charges, no option to choose between charging/file transfer. USB options in Android settings are grayed out. I tried a Sandisk pendrive with USB type-C and phone can see something in the USB, gives me an option to choose whether to charge or transfer files and other two options. I choose file transfer but phone doesn't see this pendrive, kind of resets the options and let's me choose charge/file transfer over and over again. Pendrive is perfectly ok, works well on two other phones and PC. What do I have to try / change in the settings to force it to work? I've never had this kind of issue on any of my Samsung phones...

Bearing in mind one of the phones I bought for my 70 year old mother who bearly touches it and keeps it inside a shock proof cover. Deng people so many people mad about this phone, my xa1 is doing great(1year and going) no problems on toucscreen side such as 'p'(no defects), few to no lags at all, I really loved it, it just didnt have double tap to wake but is still good overall, compared to watching vs my laptop i love it when i watch yt(no buffering at all smooth asf) vs my laptop which kept buffering despite having good connection

A friend of mine helped me to root it in different ways. After that, we root it again and last we flashed with the latest upgrade of Oreo. After 13 months of intense usage it's still like new. I have the dual model and also my other friends. Hope I could help!

Sony Xperia follows a strict "No Replacement Policy". My phone developed 3 different issues withing warranty period, including buzz sound while playing audio, hotspot connectivity, and touch problem, but Xperia team has given in writing "replacement is impossible" First they offered me a refurbished phone with 90 days warranty while my phone was having 110 days warranty when I last submitted to their service center. Now, they want me to go for a paid upgrade where I have to 17% of the original cost of my phone and the new phone will be priced INR 5,000 higher than the market price. It means i need to pay around 9,000 for a paid upgrade while the actual difference between the prices of the 2 phones is Rs. 2,712.

I've had three from the shop and they all developed the same problem. In the shop they said its a software problem and just kept giving me new ones. You must have been lucky and got the one in a thousand that works properly. It's clear the phone was not tested properly... Software or hardware.

I've had 4 xperia (neo, go, z3 compact and xa1). Whilst the first three were great the xa1 was a pile of rubbish. The microphone would only work if you hadn't used the speakers since the last restart. It should never have been released. When I complained to Sony I got a standard reply addressed to me as Mrs (I'm a Mr), saying they'd be in touch... That was over a year ago. Dreadful phone, really bad customer service. Gone from being a lifelong Sony fan and walking advert to never touching their rubbish again especially when it's clear what they think of their customers. Go bust Sony, no-one cares!

Got mine about a year ago and the touchscreen's being replaced under warranty for the third time now. Really loved the design and the performance is great but what's the point when the touchscreen's failing every two months? Bought a different brand and although I've been a fan of Sony Xperias, I will never touch them again, thank you very much. Stay away from this model, it'll just give you headache after headache. Money down the drain, seriously. Once the warranty expires you just end up with a useless piece of plastic junk. European model btw.

Bought it P14,999. Price now P8,999. XA1 no issue before/after updates (3 months) XA1 for BACK camera, faster mobile data, adjustable screen color balance... Minimal-to-no bass intnternal speaker Cannot access engineering mode without rooting. User experience, Vivo Y81 with 32-bit Hi-Fi DAC is better. Face unlock with pick-up wake-up is better. XA1 face unlock is stupid (for now), cannot open double tap screen-lock. No embedded app for auto-wake-up.

DONT BUY THIS PHONE! NEVER. I've replaced the screen myself..company wont take responsibility for faulty phones. software wise, and performance wise, its quite good..but the original didnt last 6 months before having issues. Once replaced , the phone is good but screen issue is unacceptable.

Firstly I am a fan of Sony phones. Was convinced to get this phone by a super virgin mobile customer person. (thanks) Sorry but camera pics are very dark which means using manual settings to get any pics that are half decent, My old Samsung galaxy s3 takes far better pic's Sunshine legibility is very poor, Key board is playing up the "p" in particular Keeps going into safe mode. I first bought the sony xa and it got screen burn yellow lines down the left and right side of the screen so I bought it back to the shop got a exchange for the xa1 and this phone also got screen yellow burn down the sides. I was shocked it happened twice I also had problems with the wifI on both phones and the touch screen was very bad round the corners and sides. Basically this phone had more faults than the San Andrea fault. I have had about 8 sony phones since 2012 and nearly all of them had wifi problems. Its clear to me Sony are outsourcing production to cheap Chinese manufacturers to save money and hoping for the best.

From a performance point of View, phone does the work, I'm not sure however about the 23MP camera, didn't impress me at all HOWEVER, phones usability was compromised just a few months after I bought it. Screen became unresponsive on the edges, I had to switch keyboard so I could type "p" and "q", I had to download a screen button because triangle, circle and square buttons were not working 90% of the time, I couldn't access the top bar drawer... I had to change it after 10 months. Don't waste your money on this one

Nor Nokia or other maker doesn't have what XA ultra have. Screen, camera and speed. Battery for XA ultra may be a little weak, but XA1 ultra and mostly XA2 ultra/plus are supreme in this class. None of these devices foe now have no more problems because all were fixed by updates, of course, if you do smash it and throw it into the fire or keep it into the sun/water all day long nothing of that can guarantee its lasting.

Can anyone imagine the IQ of this user asking this? If not imagine another thing, that all other people with all their XA1's complains are same as indolent! Take note that Europe models are not included in this issue nor dual sim models, and that these 'tons' of complains come from other markets - India the most. This issue can be solved. XA and M5 (worst Mediatek Xperia models) also had problems and was solved by certain settings, keyboards and apps. People are really not fair because if you look to other makers and other models are even worst. For example J models from Samsung suffer with issues that only replacement is a must. The triangle back button failed but then my p started working so i stuck with it. It's hope that kills. If the problem is with the kernel code in the mediatek chip , then it's Sony's responsibility to find an adequate solution for their customers as they made the phone and somehow agreed for the mediatek chip, but no instead they remain silent about this. This is quite literally a scam from Sony! XA1 Owners around the globe are also facing similar issues here. Hence the ones that don't come with problems are isolated cases.. everyone else is having this problem.

Upon purchase. I face multiple issues as with previous Sony Xperia's. The snapchat camera wouldn't work properly when trying to use a filter and just three months after purchase, the touch screen became incredibly impaired. Firstly, it started becoming a bit faulty around the edges but lately it has become unusable. For example, I can't use the back button, or the letter "p" or "q". The home button eventually became impaired too. Overall, the camera was good but certainly not worth the price. I purchased this phone for €199 in mid April 2018 off a well known Irish mobile brand and overall it has lasted me a total of 3 months. Pros: Processor. It was fast enough for a new phone. Battery life and memory went in its favor too but could get a higher mAH for similar price elsewhere. A 23 megapixel front camera compensated for its dull front camera. Cons: Touchscreen impairs after extremely short period of time. Camera faulty on some apps such as Snapchat and apparently due new Oreo 8.0 update. Basic security measures as it failed to have a fingerprint or facial recognition compared to other handsets on the market in its price range.

At first it was really a good phone.. I was attracted to its features especially the internal memory and camera specs at its price.. And im always a fan of sony cameras.. BUT.. after a few months.. Things didn't seem ok. The touch screen at the edges is hardly responsive anymore. The commands become very messy. Overheating always happens where camera app shut down completely when the only thing you use is two or three apps only. And sometimes it shuts down completely.. Insolence is not good regarding this issue. Once again insolence is at power, so those who read these opinions: BEWARE! Well someone need help: my best friend works in a service center in my country and this model is not even close to Samsung A or J models having problems with sim and black screen issues (S8, 9+ also) and you are telling me that he isn't right? Right? This device is having problems because of some kernel coded imposed by Mediatek CPU in some countries and only some models (check IMEI). Indeed if you are not used with Sony models then avoid Mediatek ones, but check by yourself, nor Samsung nor other maker doesn't shine at all. XA models were best in quality and speed using these crappie Mediatek among all makers. BTW good news! From 2019 Cr-Apple will crap better along with Mediatek's!

It was wasted money. I had a Sony Xperia SP before it was good, but i am abandoning Sony forever. Use any kind of screen protector. Use Google or Swiftkey keyboards set on auto correct. Don't use greasy or wet hands (again use a screen protector). Over 8 months of intense usage, along with 3 friends using the same with me, same settings, no issues at all. Knowing how to use it and to handle it makes it perfect. I recommend buying the dual sim model. It's perfect in every aspect (or using any firmware Nougat or Oreo). Now it's the cheapest in its class.

I bought this for the bigger internal memory at a good price, and the usual Sony camera quality. My touch screen has not failed permanently but I have daily problems touching on letters p and q and the number 0, which can be more serious when trying to write a password, or menu buttons in the top right hand corner. Also very frustrated by the apps automatically sending themselves to the SD card, so they have to be uninstalled and reinstalled. This happens when the phone is at rest! So far technical support has not been satisfactory.

Best not to buy it. Despite of all the bad reviews online, I visited the showroom @ Bangalore, India. The device which was on display there had touch issues. I asked the sales person about it and he was saying some irrelevant reasons. After my multiple questions he says its got some issue and they are sending it to service center soon. 3 friends plus myself having XA1 models. None have problems. Nougat or Oreo is simply the best device under 130 euro. Can be flashed and set to solve this issue. Mostly bad maintaining regarding Nougat firmware and also excessive power button usage. If having Nougat use mostly proximity on/off apps, but mostly, stop trolling!

I have had my Xa1 since October (about 8months ago) and so far have been very happy with it. In saying that, I have never owned a flagship phone, so I wouldn't know how it compares to highend ones. The battery life lasts an easy day, sometimes two, the screen resolution is great, and I'm very happy with the camera. I have never had a problem with touch. The only problem I had, was that my phone started making weird notification-like sounds. I had no notifications, it would happen at random times, often without an app open. This was an easy fix, as my NFC was detecting my Myki, which was in the phone cover. Sony has been great for my family and I, and my Xa1 has lasted well. Whatever brand and design you go for really depends on what type of phone you prefer. Also, if you live life with your eyes glued to the screen, maybe you would be better spending more on a top price phone.

Which has made the phone practicaly unusuable. I have X compact and XZs in my family beside my XA1. All three are great with Oreo systems. Indeed XZs is top, but in no case found this problem that you say regarding signals. Check your signal provider compatibility in your country for this model or upgrade it. Don't fool people. Regarding screen problems is still a maintaining problem knowing Mediatek's is still a crap motherboard designer. There are apps that can manage this issue and be very aware from where you buy it.

I don't think so, I used Sony xA1 for just about 6 months i was sickly disappointed with touch screen difficulties, I think it was the branded phone? . We must be reliable onto those issues and improve YOUR TOUCH SCREEN .. Its better to have low battery life than this.

Here in the US they are among the best phones available. There's a reason why they are #1 and #2 in sales worldwide. If you're looking for a great snapper and heck of a wonderful screen in a compact and rather nice to hold form, This is definitely the phone for you, However after using the XA1 for over a Year I would say aside from the above, Its a rather unreliable phone for a user that wants to be connected to the internet 24/7, Personally I have experienced network connectivity issues all the time with the XA1 , (Malaysia - Webe 4G-LTE/Band 5), Completely useless indoors or behind buildings when cheaper phones of other manufacturers shine and is able to get decent signal. Battery capacity is not that great either, and yes I have experienced the Touchscreen problem too, my whole screen would not respond to touch, luckily that is covered under warranty though it took them a full month to get it fixed. About the network issue, they blamed my carrier though my argument is how can other cellphones of cheaper and shoddier brands work very well but not a Sony? Truly dissatisfied and disappointed, Stay away from this model

This is a very good example of Sony user. He knew how to handle this issue. It's not a problem solving for Sony, but Sony will take action in most of the cases. This is a very good example of Dave. I was having problems with XA model of not responding on margins of the touch. Did the same and I wasn't bothered. Samsung S8+: Screen died in few days and I know 4 cases among my friends, still everyone is buying it. Sony will surely quit Mediatek motherboard and drivers. Sony will help, be patient and follow the necessary steps.

Although I love the phone, I am having hardware issues and even though phone is only 4 months old Sony will not replace. They want me to mail it in and wait 14 days before it is returned. My phone did the same ref the drop down menu for notifications - however i dont want to be without my device to send it back to have it repaired however you can download a Drop Down status bar application from Google play for free which has resolved the issue for me. Screen still doesnt pull down however the press of the button drops the notifications section fine.

You are from another country and you should know from your country your issues not from international markets/stores problems. In your country selling laws are different in my opinion and you should ask people like me (knowing some things having connections) from there. If you know how to speak your problem surely Sony will help. If you know how to flash it, try to flash with the first firmware available in 2017 of Nougat. Good luck.

I bought this phone a year ago on June 2017. About a few months later the notification bar starts acting up and won't drag down no matter how many times I tried. I solved this issue by using a 3rd party app that allows me to drag down the notification bar, but it is very unconvenient especially when you're playing a game or watching a video. I thought that was all, then a few months later the screen on the left and right side became very unresponsive that I have to apply a bit of pressure just to make a tap. A few months later again the back, home & recent apps button became unresponsive as well and it is very frustrating. I have decided to send this phone to the service center and hoping they will repair or replace it with another model, replacing with the same model will give me the same frustration again in a few months. I always love Sony products though this phone was the first Sony phone I have ever used and this leaves a bad impression for me against Sony. I thought you could do better Sony.

4 months after updating to oreo i got these issues. notification bar and corners issues. i guess ur mobile is new one and it may take some tym for these issues. even sony itself told that mobile xa1 with oreo are having touch issues. so i used my warranty for display change. at some point of time ur mbl also will get those issues because it got updated to oreo. my suggestion is to if u feel like any issues on phone before 1 year claim your warranty and dnt delay.

Xperia 5 and 5? Hmm trouble maker? Anyways. Problems raised with some *weak kernel codes* only and sadly: Mediatek's motherboard let's say *fault*. M5 was the first most problematic at writing codes to Mediatek motherboards. With that being made, sadly, XA1 follow M5 destiny because of that (XA1 plus is the *remedy* of these problems). I know people being satisfied with most of warranty services in my country, changed for another device for sure. So please stop being negative on this issue. Sony did 10 times better than other makers in regards of reliability and quality for its smatphone devices in time. It will be solved in some way or another. The secret is in writing codes to good pieces o hardware. Sony and Qualcomm is the best couple around for now in the electronics device department. XA2 and XZ2 is the start of a new era in this regard.

To anyone claiming that Oreo fixes all the touch screen issues, this is blatantly false. I am going to send this to service this week. I have put up with the right hand, left hand side not working. More recently also the top drag down menu also not working. Doubt they will replace the phone or give an alternative model. This was a huge failure on Sony's part to not offer replacement phone's if not alternatives to all holding warranty. I'm not a new Xperia user either, I have used Xperia 5 compact and Xperia 5. Both phones were much better. Also worth noting is how quiet the loudspeaker is.

Apologist. This phone is an utter piece of garbage. The touch screen issues are undeniable. I can't drag the top bar down, nothing down the right edge of the screen registers, and I can only hit the "back" button at the bottom, the "home" and "window" buttons don't work. Even then I have to hit it multiple times to work. It constantly disconnects from my bluetooth devices without reason. Finally, Sony has the balls to charge for things as simple as themes when other brands distribute things like that as value in buying the phone.

This is bad product and the repair service is even worse. I purchased the phone in October 2017. After only 2 months the touch screen was very unresponsive. Eventually it was completely unresponsive down the right hand side and I couldn't pull down the notifications menu. I returned it to the place of purchase who sent it for repair. I received no information on the progress of the repair and it was taking so long the retailer called the repairer to check the status. They were told the parts were on order and it would be a MINIMUM 5 week repair period. 5 weeks! For a phone. What was I supposed to do in the meantime? But you don't even need to take my word for it. Google "Sony Xperia XAI touch screen not working, unresponsive right hand side" and you'll see plenty of people with the same problem. Same problem with the phone, same 6 week repair period.

I always said on this forum (but who to scroll down and to read a lil' bit, neah! It's easier to ask questions and never to care about its answers or to comment in a ''hey I'm better than you'' replies). What kind of bargain you make if you take a product from a store that cannot accept/support its warranty? Yes, I saw different problems with this model because of Mediatek's kernels. But that means 3 important things for a smart customer: 1. You read all the forums about this model and the experiences of some other users and the markets this device is available. For example is the single sim model having problems or the dual sim, is it about the Asian market or European having these problems. 2. You go to a store having most reliable prices and services that will allow you to change the device with ease if something happens. 3. You care for it in a way not to break it in some way. Meaning you buy a screen protection, you clean it time to time, you never throw it where you want like it's a stupid toy that doesn't really matters because in fact you wanted another phone and you come in this forum and put useless questions. You reset it, you flash it so that means you care and you know to how to care! If these few steps are not ok with anybody, you can buy ten times the J5, A8, S8 and all will have problems. I know more J5 (2017) and S8 models in my country with dead/black touch screen after one month of usage than XA1, but while their distribution is made by much many stores that respect their warranty, no customer complaints. I am not a guardian of anyone or anything, but it's real that I care about this device and because I care: IT WORKS and ROCKS!

For me. Oreo did nothing. I still had touch issues. Everything else in the phone worked perfectly just the touch screen. My screen even developed a weird yellow tinge on the left hand side and was growing down. Personally, these touch issues are not software related. I think they are hardware related and something to do with the design of the phone. This phone has been repaired once before and had two models replaced, but the issues keep coming back.

Phone is plagued with serious touch issues, especially around the edges where the "p" and "q" are. My screen became very unresponsive that even swiping from the top down to get notification menu doesn't work anymore. Getting phone repaired for 2nd time now after 2 replacements before it. If the XA1 did not have these touch screen issues, this phone would have been a great low-mid ranger.

Snapdragon wins for sure the competition and best in class is now XA2. XA1 is still a great bargain with its Oreo updates and its price cuts. After Oreo upgrade XA1 is now very fast, no more freezing, great touch, amazing camera using third parties, good battery backup, it has everything for a cheap performace smartphone. I recommend buying the dual sim device. Sony did great!

Finally I received the 48.1.A.0.129 system upgrade. 1. Cameras are so much better with or without zoom (even compared to the more expensive brothers) and of course Galaxies. Top quality on daylight, better in dark shots (also using third parties). 2. Touch responsiveness is top. 3. No more software freezing. 4. Better battery backup. 5. Better screen balance. 6. Better loudness in headphones. 7. Better sound in speakers. 8. Better signals and connectivity. 9. Better everything. In one word: If Sony was being able to make from the start this kind of system optimization then all its problems were dust in the wind. Thank you Sony! All the best!

Does anyone have problems with Snapchat after the oreo update? I now it's a first world problem, but when i try to use the filters my camera has a bug and it gets stuck on a certain image, won't show the live movement, i don't really know how to explain it. If press the button to take the photo it comes up with the filter but when i'm actually using it doesn't sync with my movements. Same goes with the main camera as well. I installed sony companion, used the software repair thing and after that i don't get the number of notifications i have, just a blue bubble on the corner of the icon. I think the only good thing about this update ishow the new emojis look.

Never had problems with Sony devices especially with Snapdragon based socs (like Z1). Mediatek (like XA/XA1) yes but I managed fixing them. There are third party battery saving apps that are replacing system processes cleaning that will skip issues like application not responding. Facebook has most problems but not only on Sony devices. You are not a true Sony user and your comment is not based on true experience and now just trolling. Please do some tests and see I'm right!

My previous phone Sony Z1 had some issues with systems crashing and lag issues, which kinda made me lose confidence in Sony, but i gave them another chance as i really love their camera. My current XA1, bought last june 2017, was the biggest regret in my life. The same old issue persisted, systems crashing, apps crashing, lag is another small issue which i came to accept. Camera, yes it is still up to my expectations as i love photography a lot. BUT the system and apps issues has made me so mad, i am not gonna be another Sony user. I've tried upgrading the system, restoring to factory setting, all are useless. Most probably a hardware problem or something else, i dont care. Im not the kind of person who relies on expert reviews when it comes to getting a new phone, i go to user reviews as it is them who use the phone the most. To everyone out there, specs and expert reviews are one thing, but user experience is the most important. Heed my advise, go get something else. Even my older Vivo phone is working fine. I havent heard any touch screen problem issues so far in my part of Asia ;) Use only original Sony cable/charger or any other original or known brand cable/charger. Type-C cables are very sensitive. There's even a blog about type-C cables.

this phone sucks... 😤😤😤 i got my xa1 last july 2017 and around aug 2017 i experience touched screen problems... i returned my unit to the service center and they fixed it take not they didnt replace it with a new item knowing that sony's screen problem is a rampant issue for that particular model. now im experiencing problem in batt... sometime when i charge my batt my phone over heat... other times it takes 5-6hrs to charge... im very disappointed i had a high expectation with the brand.. my last phone last 2yrs with me before i experience any problem with it... this phone sucks dont buy...

Camera is equivalent to 18 mp dslr And processor is too good... At all it is very good to use at this cost..... But now is the time of using dual camera and fingerprint phone. So use another phone... If you have availability for the XA2 surely is better than XA1. If you need a good camera and well sized and a lighter device than XA1 is good. Try the dual version it might be better.

I'd suggest you get the much better XA2 instead that has Snapdragon, Better Camera that can record 4k, Bigger Battery, has Fingerprint Sensor, overall better but slightly expensive considering its SoC/Upgraded components.

This phone is simply awesome in every aspect especially the camera of this phone is just excellent as compared to other smart phones in this price range. I bought an xperia xa1 and I do not recommend anyone buying this phone. Almost every phone will start having issues with the touch screen within the first 6 months. Sony WON'T replace or either recognize any defects on the phone. Please update me on any class action sue.

Got the phone on 5th January as a replacement for my Sony Xperia M4 aqua, which had crashed. So far very pleased. It's a nice compact phone with no issues. The really great thing is that it has 32gig of memory, compared to only 8 on the M4. Had to use an SD card on that. Quite surprised to see so many negative reviews for the XA1.

This is not Utra's forum, but I know its problem. After you upgrade 42.0.A.4.167 (Pc Companion or by automatic system upgrade) do another factory reset. After that everything will be smooth. Amazing device but I don't like its size.

As a device im quite satisfied with XA Ultra, as a phone huge dissapointment because i cant get a stable signal, in a house i get signal in specific places, outside is ok, at work i have no coverage at all..... And as i noticed Sony doesnt give a damn about it... Will be returning it to dealer and see if they dont fix it then ill refund and get something else...

Real facts talk. XA had the same issues with the touch screen. It was solved and wasn't a big deal. Google keyboard was the best to use for fast typing. XA1 is among most responsive smartphones. Problems appear to those who can't manage it well. No Sony device I had problems with. Best quality and really fast processing devices among most of all, well priced also.

Just discovered that my two weeks old phone has some trouble with the GPS. If I go to location seting and chose "device only" it dosent fint the location. Only if i acctivate location with wifi and mobile networks it finds something but it's not accurate. Dicovered it while runing with Strava and the result was much shorter than my actual run, and this with mobile network active, otherwise it dosent find any location.

I bought xa1 had it 6 months and the touchscreen is no good doesn't work close to the side and I can't access the top of screen drop down menu even though there are icons there. Spoke to Sony and they make you do all this rubbish to try to get it to work but it doesn't, interesting to see others with the same problem. I will never buy another Sony product this is rubbish

I have always liked Sony but few years ago I had issues with my Sony Xperia Z1 and the treatment I got from Sony was very poor. Recently I decided to give Sony another try and bought the XA1. The touch screen started "jumping" few months ago and it's just been getting worse and worse. This is my last Sony and I'll never support Sony mobile again. There are other phones on the market from other companies who gives much better after sales service.

I had the Sony Z1 which was very large but I likes it. I got the XA1 as it is cheaper, but is better than the older Z1. It is slightly smaller, which is good. The screen is not Full HD but I don't notice any difference at all. I am happy with the phone. The battery lasts longer than my old Z1. The data transfer was quick and painless.

The worst thing for a NOOB is to have a Sony phone, sorry to say that but this device has many ways to set it for the battery backup to be ideal. I can do one day backup with texting and calling. Of course with hd video play and hard camera usage things are not that ideal. It's still amazingt about its backup, adding its screen brightness and contrast and its very fluid responsiveness. Take note that most big camera sensor phones have little backup and this one has a heavy rear one. But when NOOBS are talking, thunders are striking!

I bought sony XA1 phone . On 5th day of purchase it ringtone stopped. Service engineer upgraded software and it worked. On 10th day the screen display is blurred. Service engineer says it is pressed in pocket and it is not in warranty so pay Rs5000. Such a delicate phone I have blackberry, apple, HTC & moto. All working fie rough & tough. But Sony XA1 oh my god think before purchase to put it on locker not in pocket.

I bought an XA1 dual on pink because they had a nice price cut offer for that color and I said "damn I like it so much the color won't be a problem" so I bought it. In three days of using I did an upgrade from 40.0.A.5.66 to ***.135 my phone got crazy. Worst, camera got a black dot in the center of viewfinder after a few tests with the new system upgrade. I returned it to the store meanwhile they put same price offer to another yellow one. Same thing about the yellow color. I was profoundly intrigued that in my past 20 years of using Sony devices, none had such a problem only after 3 days of using, so I wanted to give another try to see where I did wrong. The store changed it. So I changed it with the yellow one. I asked my friend who is a working at an electronics device repair center - why did that happened, and he told me Sony had problems about upgrading because of some 'red controllers' with high risk to some sort of electric shock on camera and digitizer - I didn't have time to acknowledge the digitizer's breakdown but camera did (Mediatek's soc design fault essentially, as I know afterwards they modified their soc including for XA1 plus kernels that ideally should have been XA1's in the first place). So I decided not to do any kind of upgrade until Oreo to this dual yellow one. Sony will surely do something about this situation till then about the remaining 'high risk' models (including mine's - yellow one). I also wrote a letter to Sony to manage this problem and hope that they'll do their best. I am not eager to upgrade because 40.0.A.5.66 firmware is the best in my opinion for now. Camera is amazing, battery backup, speakers, connectivity are best for the money I've spent among all other devices I've touched including A2017, J2017, P8, P9, S8+. Among overall speed and connectivity Sony is still a top brand to take in serious. So don't blame only on Sony or people like me, but instead learn about some things and you'll avoid inconveniences.

For the price this is probably one of best, and the response on this device is great, no lag or stutter even when gaming. Am a little disappointed with the speaker though. Nice divices. I have this phone more than a month and is OK. I wish that the battery was a little bit of bigger, 3000 mhA will be good. Camera is OK in all conditions, the OS is 7.0 out of the box and so far no problems whatsoever, Rom is 16 Gb free but you can add a SD card. Overall is a decent device.

Get better internet so you can stream @720p by the least!!! You pretty lack knowledge about Youtube auto adjust video resolution depending on your internet speed... Atleast @5MBPS Internet Speed you can get 720p@60fps, 10MBPS 1080p@60fps... It's not the phone but you ISP.... Dum dumm or just download the video first @1080/720p then play it afterwards natively.

Phone is awesome! I have the dual sim model and it never had a problem. Never upgraded though just waiting for Oreo. It works like a charm for its price. Camera can exceed any expectation, set in the right way. For me it's much better than any Samsung in its class (A or J) even Huawei in its class. If it had front camera flash really was the perfect device. Battery backup is better than any Sony Z5 model, very good upgraded. It was my first time to buy a Sony phone (XA1 G3116) & it really pays off... I already used several diff brands, but up until I used Sony, honestly, im totally impressed..this phone is COOL.. -from its slim design (w/c im impressed the most), -its Xperia features/actions (that made it distinct from other brands), when u are watching movies; it will auto adjust the volume that will not damage ur ears, as well as the brightness, etc.. -fast charging battery..in just 15min I already have 50% battery life..it will not let the phone overcharged! I once slept when I forgot to unplug my phone but it will stays on 90% to avoid overcharging & then goes up to 100%..amazing.. but I suggest to use wifi when browsing the internet since data consumes more of ur battery & there are heating problems sometimes. -camera is amazing too..I love the bokeh effects. -some inconveniences I have during the first week I have the phone are fixed after I updated the latest software version and install latest system updates. -so far I never encounter touch screen issues as what others are saying here.. No wonder why Sony is a reputable brand.

There are so many causes that can lead to that issue of bad signal that now it's useless to mention. Truth is if you know how to handle it, you can beat in a second devices that are from a much better class. I am using the model with two sims G3112 and never had problems with signal on both. I may say that it's better than Samsung S8. I was having a country side call with bad signal zone with an S8, and S8 was crap comparing to XA1 in the same zone. So stop blaming this device if you don't have any clue about how to use it.

Can't get a signal at all, I've tried three different networks all of which I've had full signal strength on with previous phones, but with the Xperia on a good day the most I get is one bar and that doesn't last more than a few minutes at a time. At first I thought it might be 4g but I've also tried it on 3G but still nothing. Even outdoors is a poor signal. Very disappointed ! Camera is good I'm still finding my way around android as I've always had iPhones but didn't want to pay as much this time :( so I'm not sure performance wise how good it is for the lower price range, it's not the most responsive touch screen which seems to be a very common issue. I'm regretting buying it now tbh. I wouldn't say it's totally crap (although it's not much use without a signal haha) but I definitely wouldn't recommend it to anyone.

My experience with XA1 is by most part similar to yours. It works very well, with occasional stutters (dunno if due to OS or specific application, in my case Instagram). Regarding updates, you can freely update it to latest available OTA version (7.0 base OS, Dec 5 2017 security patch here in Europe), Sony is very diligent and tests stuff before releasing it to users, hope they will deliver promised upgrade to 8.0 (Oreo).

Like it but connectivity is flaky for texting, wifi and bluetooth. Patches have improved the situtation but this phone seems like it was shipped before being well tested. Seems like the connectivity problems are related to the device trying to conserve power because times that it goes power crazy it has no connectivity issues at all. Too bad because it works well when it is working and the battery life is very good (too bad it comes at the cost of getting texts/emails promptly).

Did you drop the phone before? Did you buy it secondhand/brand new with warranty? Are you a clumsy user or you let someone borrow the phone who couldve damage it but didnt tell you? If not then update it with the latest available firmware Dec. Patch, then do a Full Wipe/Reset... Else if it fails return the phone where you got it coz its defective.

I didn't have any issues mostly that I didn't upgrade it to *.135. So please don't blame on overall Sony. This model is still best in its class in all aspects. I will wait for Oreo upgrade to see if it's better. The best thing though is that Sony will quit Mediatek chips. Remember that an error of upgrade messed some red's kernels among them problems of touch. XA had relatively same problem that was solved by some upgrade.

Chipset wise SD810 is more powerful than MTcrap Helio P25. Only advantage of this, is it has Nougat and will get Oreo. Eitherway just install Custom Rom on Z5 as SD810 is more easier to make Custom ROMS like LineageOS so it has longer life than any MediaTek Crap based phones.

Worst phone ive ever had, constant problems, battery was draining with hardly any usage, would struggle to charge, bought another charger to learn it was the charging port in the phone, camera is good once it stops faffing around and takes the photo. Turns off at random times with plenty of battery left, makes random duplicates of photos, and can't ever be on an app for more than 5mins without it crashing. Wont be buying a Sony again.

yes i use unfitted screen protector cause i cant find anything fitted for my sony xa1. i go to different places but they can only offer the unfitted glass protector. my phone fell down and it wasn't too high above the ground and some part of the screen turned black. It means that their quality aren't good cause many phone do fell but the phones screen didnt turned black only scratches but this phone im using screen protector and still after it fell the screen turned black. and the other problem is the screen it doesnt response when i touch and thats the big problem of this phone...

Buy. - Edge of screen stopped working a month later along with top so notification bar simply did not pull down easily and any button near the edge was VERY difficult to press, it is like it lost all sensitivity in that area.. bear in mind, this was about a month after purchase and the phone had not been dropped. - Charger port became loose somehow? I spent more buying a new lead thinking the lead was the issue.. nope. - Software crashed, so many times.. no point restarting the device as the phone still froze. You had to let the phone die and reboot itself for it to be back to normal so any solution was out of your hands. Sometimes it would freeze on the reboot screen so there was nothing you could do except wait until either the battery died or it unfroze. I guess when the camera is 23MP, there has to be something wrong with it. In this case, definitely not worth the good camera if the phone can't even be used.

This phone is best you can get in its class. This site is European as I know so there might be few things to blame: 1. Are you from Asia? 2. Did you upgrade its Android 7 with 40.0.A.6.135? 3. Rooted or Flashed the device in some minimal way? 4. Did you used glass protector that was unfitted to its softly curved screen? 5. Excessive water, dust, grease substances, salty water on the screen? 6. In some situations I've heart about bad chargers used often, non-stock ones. If yes, don't give the blame only on Sony!

M5 was probably worst device from Sony in its history of electronics. Surely not well done because was made with Mediatek processor by some Chinese franchise, with all sorts of issues. XA and XA1 were based on same weak Meadiatek but with better quality of manufacturing, sadly with same weird Chinese franchise. Indeed Sony and Mediatek found its best fit too late, after many issues solved by buyers nerves. But battery, speed, camera, and touch, as much as they worked still did better as much more expensive other makers devices. XA1 as I did fiund out, have been built on two different franchises. One screw it with touch quality and other did a stock with no problems. Problematic stocks were most built for China and India some came also to Europe, as I know. With all those issue, Sony is still better that Samsung and Apple or Lg quality overall using Snapdragons processors.

Actually there is no feature which this phone doesn't support. Every region have its own QC depending of people and its education. Depending of that products and service centers are better or worst for all makers not only Sony. In my region in was only 12 cases of screen failure and of 100, but a specific well known and important store changed them all to its clients. Of course there are stores and distributors that don't change anything and vanish from the market and that is very important for everybody to search and find.

I had screen problems. Got it repaired by Sony repair. I had to wait ling to get it back. Few days after receiving it. I made a call phone screen went off. Noting on screen. I didn't know whether I was on call or totally shut down. I pressed power button to turn it on, clicks nothing happens. Then I heard a voice made me realized call has been answered. After call ended it came back on. Tried another call same thing happened. I will never touch Sony phones again.

The XA1 is complete garbage. After only two months I'm on the LONG list of people who have faulty touchscreens. Try using a keyboard when you can't hit the P or return keys - so frustrating. It also requires frequent rebooting for Bluetooth functionality to work with my car.

1000 $ for a averange display, with a mediocre camera, and a mediocre battery backup. Touched both phones and not in 1 million years to have a Iphone X!! No Iphone X compared to XA1, because of (in my real life experience): 1. X has no better camera (25 vs 12 mp) I have samples on Esato (I'm not allowed to attach site or full quality samples here). 12 mp daylight of XA1 are like DSLR ones with no processing artifacts in spite of not having Optical Lens. One picture of XA1 can reach 20 mb in size. Amazing XA1 camera quality of manual camera settings with third party apps. No shutter button on X. 2. No good compatibility with other Sony or Windows devices, bad bluetooth/tethering. connection by X. 3. No OTG. 4. No headphone jack connector. 5. Same quality as XA1 media sound/video stock player. 6. Same battery backup as XA1 (1 day full usage). 7. Browsing with XA1 with third party browsers is sometimes faster than X with its stock one. 8. Same screen brightness, same color vividness. 9. Same speed in settings menu. 10. And worst nearly 6 times more expensive!!! Iphone = Ifools, sorry but that's the most painful truth.

After one week of using the device (dual sim model G3112) I have to say that my expectations are met without any (major) compromise. Pros: understated looks, 2-day battery life, decent display, very useful camera, snappy overall performance. Cons: fiddly trusted face smart unlock, tiny mono speaker, painfully slow charging (with packed charger), sony bloatware, late security patch updates (still on August 1). This phone is a secondary one, used for travelling purposes mainly. So light to medium use, no gaming, lots of photo taking, navigating, media streaming, blogging, all with minimal google services dependence. If your use case is anything like mine then an XA1 could be the right pick at 220-240 euro point. There are cheaper offerings out there but warranty (2-yr carry in) and support (Oreo guaranteed) provided by sony is worth the premium imho.

Cannot be compared A5 with XA1 regarding camera. XA1 rocks! A5 has overall other problems appearing in time (battery, cpu and ram usage and slowness) not to mention it's much more expensive than XA1. Maybe you should try to send it again to another service centre, mine had exactly the problems you faced, barely a month and the screen becomes unresponsive, When I sent mine in it had a dent on the top left side (yes i accidently dropped it one day) but they still accepted the unit nontheless,it took them a month to get the screen replaced, though I wouldn't complain since they also fixed the dent without extra charges. As of now it works like a charm..

Not all devices are bad, problems appeared by latest system updates. Oreo update surely will solve problems. For now latest updates are not ok with some devices. Not updated can prove itself among best touch screens available on market in this price range of devices. Also XA had the same problems even not worst and updating to Nougat solved the touch issues. In this case factory Nougat is better than upgraded Nougat. Oreo surely will be better. I have XA1 and it's ten times better than XA. It's the best upgrade of Z3+ but a cheaper one. So do not upgrade it until Oreo! Keep it at 7 (40.0.A.5.66).

This phone is a total failure. DO NOT buy it! Heard so much about the problems with the keyboard and tried it out in a showroom today. Indeed, the edges of the screen are not responsive to touch. Sony tried to go for minimal side bezels but their implementation is a far far cry from that of other manufacturers. This product should be discontinued ASAP. Sony is being dishonest by not publicly acknowledging the problem and discontinuing this flawed product.

Very disappointed by this phone. First ever sony phone that was defective. The screen issue on the borders are really true, i first read that here and still purchased this phone thingking it just isolated cases, but sadly i received one. The issues first appeared after 30days of use, started by just having issues typing on the right side then after 10 days on the left side then got worse soon after covering all sides top to buttom. Went to sony service center to complain, even sited this website opinion section that they need to look into it as a defect but they just ignored it. Worst they didnt cover warranty despite it being just a 3month old phone from purchase. They use the scratch and dent clause on they warranty document.

So: 1. XA1 has without any doubt best cameras in its class. Much better than S7 or any Samsung at date! I have a collection of pictures took by many devices so I know what I am talking about... And its around 260$. This model is a HOT CAKE! 2. Best screen/touch/digitizer in its class. 3. Fastest in its class. 4. The problems at this device are because of some kernel issues made by its latest system updates. So if you stay with 40.0.A.3.7 version of Android, battery, camera, and screen you will not be at risk. Because of the issues of kernel, some devices will be disturbed. I'm actually is a worker under one of the Sony center before .Since my job required me to introduce the Sony product to customer like wireless headphone, hi-fi system and so on, NFC is more convenient but my current phone does not have NFC therefore I bought the Sony xperia XA1 for it. And now I regrets. A lot of problem coming out with this model!The screen not sensitive, USB cannot be detected, and even connect to laptop using bluetooth.from start to still function well but after a few week the problem start to appear. On the sd card and micro sim slots there are a little white papers with information about the manufacturing, pull it out carefully. Mine says 17W35, that mean the phone was made the last week of August.

I think the country is not relevant. It seems like the first batches were the ones that had the screen issues. I have read that later batches have their display issues rectified. Make sure to check the manufacturing date when buying the XA1.

The stock sound quality is bad and max volume is too low because Sony firmware used horrible defaults. The stock music player is trash, I have poweramp and fixed the low volume problem by raising the preamp inside the equalizer, I also tweaked bass and treble to improve sound quality.

Yes it's a great phone but pray you don't encounter these screen issues which A LOT of people are experiencing. Some within weeks or buying, others months after buying. If this happens be prepared to wait months for Sony to do a repair or exchange. Oh and it might happen again. Not a good experience for lots of customers. GOOD LUCK EVERYONE

You can mod the XA1 to get 1080p resolution, but it will have to be rooted. Unfortunately some XA1 cannot be rooted as they came with a hardlocked bootloader. Mine is hardlocked so I'm a little bummed out, but I'm still relieved that I got a good XA1 without touchscreen problems.

Guys I have been using this phone over a month now. Didn't find any touch screen issues as were reported by others users. I must say that I am very much satisfied with the phone. Last time, they gave me a new phone; but this time only the screen was replaced. They said the phone shouldn't be pressed to hard because too much pressure damages it. I do every day diagnostic for touchscreen. One big thing is that we didn't perform any software update yet, because I am aware of display problem from the first days of releasing phone. Xperia Xa1 is a poor quality product. The touch screen AND charging port stopped working with in 5 months. Sony is offering upgrade to Xa1plus at a premium. Sony should recall this product and offer refund to its customers. Buy Xperia Xa1 at your own risk

My XA1 came with a hardlocked bootloader, so it can't be rooted, bloatware can't be removed. Only a few things can be done to improve the phone from stock: - Disable notifications for every stock Sony app. - To remove low battery notification at 30%, stamina mode must be enabled and set to the lowest which is 15%. - Battery life can be improved a lot by disabling adaptive brightness, then manually set lower brightness. - Install the Greenify app to further improve battery life. - The stock music volume is extremely low and the only way I could get an acceptable volume level was to install the PowerAMP music player app and then raise the preamp inside the equalizer. Very happy with my XA1 after these mods, the only real problem with the phone is that the vibration is too weak on incoming calls which can never be fixed, since my XA1 can't be rooted.

Initially recharging problems then system errors, then finally when I thought I had one which worked OK, after 4 weeks the edges of the touch screen stopped working. Impossible to use properly. I gave up and got a refund. A pity, but a phone which is completely unreliable is no good, especially when Sony deny there is a product problem.

Poor quality control by sony. My 5 month Xperia fall from table height. My phone has toughen glass and rubber back cover. Toughen glass was intact. But screen got cracked with bleeding light. I gave to sony centre . They told me that; screen is broken, mother board is broken, battery got band. Cost is INR 13500 Rs. I got screen replaced initially for touch screen issues too. If you are pretty extra careful about your phone, then this phone is for you. Only best thing about this phone was it has pretty awesome battery life.

I read some old xperia tips online and tried turning stamina mode ON and set it to the lowest 15% and just found out the low battery notification no longer comes in at 30% and instead comes at 15% which makes the xa1 experience a lot better now :)

I have had a very similar problem with my Sony for the touch . I used the z3 and the z5 . Loved the phone the battery and camera . However 2 phones same problem and massive issue with the service center. Only when I slapped them with a legal notice did I get my phone back after 4 weeks . However seeing the reviews it seems Sony does not seem to know how to get the touch working .

On a full battery it barely makes it through a day with very moderate use. Other users are lying when they say it can survive a day with heavy use. No way any phone can do that with only a 2300mah battery. The smallish battery is the only real hardware flaw with this phone, otherwise it's a perfect midrange phone. The only other thing preventing it from a perfect score is that it only has one speaker, should have definitely had dual speakers since the upper and lower bevels are quite big.

Can't return to the retailer because it's past the return window, so we had to send her NEW phone to be repaired, still waiting for it to return. I am not hopeful that the "repaired" phone won't develop the same issue, based on the experiences of others. It's a design flaw, it won't be fixed by putting the same components into the same design -- it will just begin to happen again as flex or stress wears on the screen. DO NOT BUY THIS PHONE! I had purchased Xperia Xa1 3 months back and have display problem. Right side display has patches on it and touch screen on the right side does not work as usual. Service center will replace the display only and will take 4 to 5 weeks for replacing the display. Better to think of other model.

The touchscreen for the XA1 is bad - the sides of the screen is unresponsive after a while (especially difficult to click on the "q" and "p" buttons!). Got the phone replaced twice but still faced the same problem, had to ask for a refund in the end.

Had this phone for a week now, and its been a great 'companion'. battery life is good and the Octacore processor never gets slow. Screen is brilliant with vibrant colors and the 23mp rear facing camera takes very good pictures. Facial recognition is a nice touch, being able to just look at the phone and it unlocks. after years of using apple products i tried something new. Well done Sony, Great Product, Reccommend.

According to xda it looks like Sony has made the bootloader for the XA1 very difficult, maybe impossible to unlock, so there is no way to root the phone :( 2 big problems in the software are the phone vibration is so weak I can't feel it in my pocket when it rings, and the low battery notification comes up at 30% which is too quick and seriously annoying. The only way to fix these problems is by rooting, so just have to live with it :(

Worst Product of the decade. I purchased it but the touch is not worked for minimum 1 month. After giving it in service center, again after 15 days it stopped working. Customer services (CS) playing zigzag games with customers, saying "contact with service center,they will update". They are not going to provide replacement even repeated issue is coming for the mobile. I wasted my Rs 20,000/-, for each service they are taking minimum 25 days. I purchased my mobile to keep it in Sony service center(SSC) alone. Within 4 months almost 50 days it is in SSC (May 5th I purchased), reason they are saying "Spare parts not available". I asked CS that I will proceed with negitive comments about product in social media, they indirectly said "as you wish". At last I loose my mobile replacement for the second time. After this I asked SSC, "if the same issue comes for third time will you replace". They said "No again we are going to repair it". Camera, performance all are good but why? If touch not works Rs 20,000/- worth is useless even to lift the call. This is the only thing I can do. If any please let me know how to proceed with consumer court.

I still can't believe how pathetically low the stock music volume is on the XA1. On my old budget Huawei Y520 I only needed to raise the preamp maybe 15% higher to get acceptable volume level on music. On the XA1 i needed to raise the preamp an astonishing 60% to get a good amount of volume. I use the app Poweramp for music.

Experimenting with the manual mode for the camera to get better quality night photos I discovered some good settings. -Increase the EV to at least +0.7 (but maybe a bit higher depending on how dark the environment is) -Set shutter speed (SS) to slowest possible, which is 1. -Turn on HDR. -Decrease the camera resolution to 12 MP. -Leave everything else on auto/default. These settings give me way better night photos than the superior-auto mode.

Though you have a 1 year warranty the service centers here aren't that efficient in fix ups. So goodluck to me. 😤😥😫.. Forgot to put my working model is a black G3123 (single sim) with android 7.0, updated sony firmware to 40.0.A.5.66 Although my XA1 is fine it seems many are getting shafted with screen digitizer problems no matter which country the phone was bought, it's really down to the luck of the draw when you buy this phone unfortunately :(

Unfortunately I haven't read these comments before buying two of these phones 3 and a half months ago ( G3112 pink and gold). The p works only if you touch it from some angles and i also have a problem when pressing the 123 key. Lately i've discovered a yellow line on the right side of my phone. The gold one has more side problems with the touchscreen (like the p,q, the 123 key and the upper letter key). The battery is ok, though, it lasts me one day( i use the basic apps, i don't use it for games). It overheats when you are using the cameras. The front facing camera is good only in good light, the main camera is ok, not bad, not amazing. And the bezels are not that big in real life, it actually feels like a pretty premium phone, but it's a shame that it has these screen faults. Not everyone can afford a flagship phone and 300 or something euros are a lot of money for all of these problems

HELP!! (camera problems) So I bought this phone 2months ago, had to be fixed right away! okay, I get it back, and that problem (lock button) was fixed. But more I use it, less I like it. Screen brightness is super low, in natural lighting or on sun visibility is awful. I haven't noticed touch problems (yet). Since I am a regular consumer, I bought this phone because of its fab 23MP camera and 8MP front camera for epic selfies. But that doesn't matter since, when using camera with instagram/snapchat, it is awful. Pictures are grainy, textured, stretched, cut off, when taking videos, it doesn't keep up (if you understand.. there is a delay in video). No other phones have this problem (apple, samsung, lg, .... other models of sony even) so it is hard for me to believe its the apps fault. Even if I change setting of camera (MP, face blur..) those changes don't help with apps. Does anyone know how to fix this, or is the only solution to wait for sony or apps to fix it and update the software? Thanks!

i am a big fan of sony & brought XA1 from abroad (dubai, in faith of having best quality than my country, bangladesh)... 1st impression was amazing... design, built quality, graphics, camera all r good, it feels great to hold & use... but everything becomes disappointing as i found its upper right portion of screen not working. again its readability under sun / auto brightness should be improved, dialer should b improved so few digits could show a desired contact no. by the way, now i need to wait to send it to dubai for repair (as i have 10 months warranty left) & wait further for an unknown time to get it back to me...

Another weakness I found with the XA1 is that the volume's max level is too low when playing music. I had to fix it with the app PowerAMP by going into the equalizer and raising the preamp above the default level. Sony's stock equalizer sucks there is no way to raise the preamp. PowerAMP is the best ever music player anyway, can't live without it :)

I just visited Canada and got the XA1 for $320 CAD, it's my first midrange android purchase ever and my first Sony phone because the USA and Caribbean do not retail Sony at all. My previous 3 android phones were lower-end budget ones under $100 USD. I'm really loving the a XA1 it's certainly many levels above my old budget phones, very sleek design, it has good processing power and battery life, great sound and call quality, strong network signal and the camera is excellent, but in a low-light environment the superior-auto mode is terrible, you will have to play with the manual mode to get a good photo at night. I've had it for nearly a month and have no issues at all with the touchscreen like others have reported here, mine was purchased in Canada from Freedom Mobile, maybe some defective ones were issued to other countries?

The XA was riddled with faults, like pressing screen mainly at bottom of device often distorted the screen. Also, some had screen alignment incorrectly against thin metal bezel. The XA1 I'm using here seems perfect, no touch screen issues, as spoken of. It is absolutely superb, bright screen, not too cold this time, speaker still a little weak, but loud enough. It's a fast enough device too, little lag, and having no issues with either its cat 6 WiFi or 4g or switching between. Cameras fantastic for a midrange device, both the 23mp, which does excellent night time shots, but manual mode best for that. The selfie camera, with auto focus etc, is brilliant. It's actually hard to beat this phone, regardless of price. Compact, powerful enough, bright screen, loud through earphones, and fun to use. Highly recommend.

My brand new XA1 seem to have developed a very serious & annoying bug. When transitioning from wifi or airplane mode to mobile data (4G) the phone seem to either take too long to reestablish/find the network or the network part just stopped working despite my area having 3out of 4 signal bars. I noticed apps such as Youtube, BBC News, Instagram and SpeedTest all refused to load content saying "Retry" and "No Internet Connection available". My Moto G4 and Nokia 6 did not have the same bug. Anyone else have experienced this?

We all have the same issues about its unresponsive touch on some side of screen. Mine's touch also doesn't respond on upper left side of screen, so I only slide down on upper right side to see the notif bar. I hope it's only about the software so it can be updated next time.

Speed is good enough. No lags whatsoever. I do not play 3D games but if I would phone would do great as it has a 720p screen. Battery could be bigger but due to extremely well balanced OS and marvelous processor it produces above average numbers. Stand by time is fabulous. These middle class processors (P20, S625, Kirin 655) are extremely useful and practical: they have enough power for just every task, they are not to expensive and they have splendid power efficiency (due to not having a power hungry clusters and enormous graphic processors that eat battery life).

Nougat 7.0 at the moment but not to worry sony is doing fast upgrades. I thought that screen would be bad but no, is actually pritty good and I never opted for higher resolution. Battery life is great: actually same numbers as samsung S7 and S8. That is due to fabulous processor: P20 is not just cheap is actually on pair with S625. Camera is awesome. It can't get any better in modern phones. Not until sony decides to manufacture bigger sensors (we had bigger sensors in past in couple of Nokias). If you want to have better photos you will have to go for camera with huge 1" sensors, like sony RX100. The speaker... Average. I had a HTC M9 before and no phone can match those speakers.

Hi, I own xperia, great phone. P10 Lite also, same class, similar price. In my country sony is a bit cheaper. Both phones have processors with similar performance although xperia is better because of lower screen resolution. Huawei has bigger screen which might be important when deciding. Sony has better camera. Sony has also cleaner GUI (OS). In the end it comes to design: you should check both phones how they feel in hand and pick one.

Touch issues at first, but when I use it normally for few weeks, it's gradually disappear. Battery 2300Mah, is okay, I can make it past 1 day 15 hours, with only watching videos and some messaging. Display colour is kinda off, need to set in Displays>Color Calibration. This phone may not be the best, but it's actually okay to use everyday. Not so much function like the Oppo or Xiaomi. (Not too much bloatware like Samsung :)

I heard speakers are "meh" and "tinny" but are they not any bad than what people are actually saying? How's the low-light photos? Any sign of app reloading when doing multitasking? Screen touch detection stops working in certain areas - have to switch back and fort from horizontal and vertical mode to use the keyboard. Changed the screen twice. Third change and they want money for it, due to some dents in the corner of the device. Well, always been quite rough with my devices, so might have been the reason why it kept on failing before. Anyone who buy this phone, this phone is replaceable for 7 days only. Thoroughly check for touch issue. If possible try to check in the shop only. Sony do provide in built draw application. You do check every point of screen, at least at every 2-3 mm. repeatedly. It has issues. esp upper corner, where clock is seen. you can't drag screen from that side. And around 2 cm below it, sometimes screen suddenly become non responsive. I liked this phone. but even service center person was telling that there are issues.

Okay, let's be honest here. This is a great phone. Just because people have issues with setting it up, it is not a bad phone! Display: set your own brightness, turn off auto-brightness. Battery: I do gaming, 4G is on and used all day, and it gets from 100% to 45-35% to the evening. I do not see ANY issues with that - check iPhones where you charge twice a day. Quality: bad ones are always there with any product and any brand - if anything is not working, go back and get a replacement!

Xperia XA1 Build Quality & design: It’s made of Polycarbonate mine's color white and loving it and it feels solid in the hand no wobly feel or on the parts of the phone, 1 hand operation is very nice, coming from a 4.5” Leon the 5” xa1 felt pretty large to me 5.2” I think for me is my limit for comfy 1 hand use, no problem of texting/typing unlike larger 5.5” phones, though top and bottom bezels are pretty big, I wish sony trim them a bit but as of now I kinda grew to like them. Screen: Well its 720p but for me its adequately sharp and color reproduction is great for me atleast. Could even compete with my brother’s zenfone selfie’s 1080p screen! I think xa1 has better color; its brightness is more than enough for me even brighter than the ZPs and was surprised. Watching movies is pretty nice and SVM or IH can enhance the color reproduction when viewing movies or images. Contrary to what I’ve read here there was some screen insensitiveness issue with xa1 but with my unit there is none (phil). Battery: Its 2300mah it could last me with my normal use (text, music for 3 hours, 1-2 movies a day, videos clips 10-15, internet 1hour max mostly fb and msgr) in normal mode, in stamina mode it can last until next day atleast with my use. During writing this I’m from 68% 7am morning to 32% 1pm in stamina mode (fb, music, video clips, text) it’s pretty good for me. Storage: 32 GB internal which is adequate for me for phone updates, 256GB is supported via MSDC I’m currently using 128GB Sandisk 80mbs WS, data transfer speed is very okay for me considering I have a slow PC, I think it’s because of the Type C? Correct me if I am wrong. Media: It can play your typical movies and video formats smoothly. Music player it’s the reason why I went to this phone music sounds so great I found myself playing air guitar always it’s just taking me to the mood. VPT mode makes the sounds surround for me it’s pretty sweet even just in my Sony STH30 HP, but I really wish the put the HSEE DX mode like in their flagships which can make your tracks Hi-Res. Camera: It’s 23 megapixel like in the X for my taste its nice I’m not a picture taker type though but coming from a xperia neo 5 5mp, LG leon 8mp the camera are very from those the quality is nice and detailed for me everyday photos are solid. It can only record 1080p vids no 4k. Selfies? It’s nice the 8mp can hold up well even rivaled the Zenfone Selfies 13mp cam, no OIS on both cam I think? but to me no big deal, I will not be using this feature so much anyway so it’s still bung for the buck for me. Performance: Helio p20 3 GB ram is adequate feels fast, though little skips are sometimes are there, exploring the device, browsing the net is no problem, split mode is handled well too. Gaming is fast my games is not that heavy though (little commander, stickman legend, zombie tsunami) but will be trying 3d games. The P20 is battery friendly too no overheating issues unlike my brother’s ZP selfie the SD615 there heats up fast even on just playing music, it’s pretty annoying, and it sucks the 3000mah pretty fast too, the xa1’s 2300mah battery has a bit better stamina with the help of P20/720p screen. Cons: If only sony put bigger battery 2.8-3k mah for more battery life for more music to be played! Full HD screen for more crisp movies and Music vids! Fingerprint Sensor, reviews said omitting the FPS was made to make way to edge 2 edge screen; they can mount it on top I think? Better having it than nothing. But not a deal breaker for me inspite of this gripes of mine. I was comparing this to the J7 pro which is a pretty nice phone too, deciding to go with xa1 my reason was being a bit of audiophile and bit of a musician the stock music player was the thing I want the most on android CP, I don’t know if 3rd party apps has this features though. I was comparing this on the J7 pro’s screen but for me its screen is too sharp for my liking (I do have some issues with my eyes/ sickness/ condition due to gaming. Xa1’s screen was much kinder to my damaged eyes, so that’s why J7 pro was my 2nd choice 3rd is zenfone 3 5.2 the SD626 chip is a badass processor, G5plus and the P2 is pretty higher priced here or hard to get by, sadly. I don’t trust much the Chinese brands so they’re not on my list though likes of oppo, vivo, huawie are pretty much having huge sales here because of nice sales talks lol. If you don’t mind the cons and loves sony this phone is great for everyday use.

With the last official update from Sony,my phone has no longer touch screen problems. It is 100% accurate. I was starting to have problems with top right screen and p and q letters,now it's the perfect phone. At least,Sony takes care of their phones.

This is my first sony phone, and just because of it's size and usability i have bought it. Rest of things are still perfect, but random touch screen issues are there. Maybe not enough complaint filled that sony feel no obligation to speak and it just their midrange phone after all,not worth the hassle.

I went to two different Sony stores (this was in the Philippines) and tested their live units for touch issues (pulling down the drop down menu in autorotate mode, pressing P, L, Q and backspace). In one of the stores only one unit out of 4 was affected, but in the other 2 or 3 out of 4 were affected. In both stores at least one affected unit was black. This isn't a very rare rate at all, this seems like a very common manufacturing defect.

I purchased this phone in USA on 06/14/17, I used rougly for about 2 weeks and all of the sudden the screen started to flickers like it was receiving pressure so I restarted and then nothing just a black screen with backlit and green vertical lines, no dropped or liquid, just regular use; basic troubleshooting steps like turn off, imposible to perform any other action because there is no display at all.

This phone is very pathetic, very bad. Please don't buy this phone. I bought this brand new phone on 8th May 2017 and after 10 days it's touch got problems, it stopped working and there appeared a burning yellowish patch in the display. Moreover Sony's Service is very very poor. Zero customer service, I then went to device center, employees there were rude, denied for product replacement, said that display will be changed and it will take at least 7 days, even they do not provide any standby phone. When I called the service centre for knowing my phone status, their reply was that they don't have mobile phone parts, so it will take extra 2-3 days. SONY XPERIA XA1 Previously owner of Microsoft 950, Looking for mobile which can be easily handled by one hand. Option was Iphone SE and Xperia XA1. Though Mac user, I am not very fond of iphone. So Bought Xperia XA1. Used for a month. Basic requirement was call functionality, Google services, companion for android watch and music. I have not installed facebook and whatsapp. Only one game was installed, subway surfer. Battery is pretty good. Bluetooth, WiFi, internet connection and Location services are on for all day time, 8-8. I start with 100 percent and end with 65-70 percentages. It covers 15-20 minutes call, 30 minutes music on FM / stored music, 10-12 emails, 5-6 SMS, 4-5 pics and 5-7 minutes of Hangout. Screen brightness is around 50 percentages. Sunlight visibility is pretty fine. Screen looks crispy even if it is 720 P. Picture quality is 70-75 / 100 [it is not great in front of 950]. Esp in dark, it is quite grainy. Focusing is issue in dark. Call quality is good, but network reception is relatively not so good. Where my 950 was giving me full towers, this will give me 2 or 3 / 4. But still can hear well with those numbers too. Music and video reveals good loudness of speaker. [actually 950 was pretty poor for it]. Ring notifications has to be choose wisely, as you will miss 2 times out of ten. I have idea sim, internet works absolutely fine for anything above 2 towers on signal reception. CONS : Sometimes videos stutter and gives green blocks at HD video quality in you tube. If you are searching through large number of contacts, screen movement is not smooth. Game loading time is long. Zooming images take good 2-3 seconds sometime. Thanks.

There is a manufacture failure in Sony Xa1 with screen right and left edges. It is near impossible write with the keyboard because you can't use the letters on the right and left edges. Sony don't admitted this failure and send customers to local provider.

It's not your phone it's the Facebook app... is one of the most hungry power apps you can find, it drains the battery like there is no tomorrow. I just use the mobile browser version of FB, not that pretty but functional and the battery will thank you.
