I jave upgraded to j7 2016, a5 2017.. and i am always finding myself to miss this phone, finally i have decided to hunt for a xperia z2 , improved version of my old beloved z1 with ips display and 3 gb ram, the only 2 points where the z1 lacked. I am very happu with z2, good battery life and very fast snapdragon 801. Pubg and other games run much faster than on the samsungs 7870 slow chipset

Phone's good up until now Heats up well, but not as hot as Z3+&Z5 I've owned all 3 of them, and my conclusion is the older Z series heats up less than the latest Z series Though would recommend the latest XZ series more for longer hardware age&more software update

It served me so well for more than 5 years. Well, more like 4 years, the 5th year was painful. It has given up the ghost, keeps shutting itself down and rebooting, basically nothing works anymore. Any suggestions how to keep pit on long enough to pull the info off it?

Just put the 2013 Z1 to rest after 5 years of service. The HW was excellent and survived numerous long wintertrips when it was frozen to -20 to -27 deg C ant thawed on my chest in the sleepingbag in a tent, or on the table in a shack with woodstove - which means rapid heating from -10/-15deg C to + 25/+30 deg C. No trouble whatsoever with battery or moist/condensation. The negative side of the Z1 was: 1: Crapware from Sony and 2: Early abandonment by Sony wrt software and software updates (iPhone released in 2013 just received iOS 12 and is supported until fall 2019. At least).

I got this phone since early 2014. Only took it to repair shop once - after 3 years of use my battery stopped working, tho it didn't even need replacing, it simply got fully charged and discharged a couple of times for 10eu. Still holds me through the day. I'd say it's only 10-15% worse from the day I bought it. Front glass still looks fresh, but back is pretty scratched cuz I got some sand in my case long ago. Overall great phone. Still can play almost all the games on Google play, but on more graphic demanding ones heats a bit. Tho recently it's taking it longer to do basic things like open messenger / launch chrome and stuff, often I get bugs and glitches that make it harder to use the phone, but only on certain apps. Well it's getting old I guess, no way around it. Worked perfectly fine for around 3 years tho. The last 4th year is kinda harder on the phone, but I'm sure it will last me to atleast early 2019 making it to 5 years :D.

just moved up to a Z5 Premium from this ... loved the Z1 - best phone I have owned and still working fine - my only complaint was the limited 16G onboard memory, after getting the basic apps I needed loaded, a few updates later I started running out of room, moved some over to the SD card but some apps just won't run off the card and some bigger apps would no longer update. never any battery issues, no heat issues or any of the problem I heard about - a really good phone at least in my opinion

It is great, by 2013 standards of course. I still have my XPERIA Z1 still alive and kicking, but no longer use it that much and made it as my collection. Because as years past, applications have been demanding more and more memory used in the background, for this smartphone it will definitely lag, this is why I have already cleared all the data of those social media apps. In 2018, I don't really recommend XPERIA Z1, for those looking for smartphones that have good bang-for-the-buck for budget users, try getting some Chinese brand smartphones. HUAWEI, XIAOMI, MEIZU, these brands are to go-to when it comes to the best bang-for-the-buck in mid-end smartphones

I've had my phone for 4 or 5 years now, its pretty good, had to replace the battery after 2 years. But overall pretty happy with it. the only draw back i would say its that the android doesn't update past lollipop. But still working for everything i need it for.

This is the very unique and the most incredible phone for Sony during that year. But I'm afraid that it's not a very good quality phone I didn't mean that it's really terrible. I mean it's below average of flagship phones a bit. To be honest why? 1.TFT display. It's quiet wonderful. Yet only colors. But overall it did not very well. It's low contrast, low detail. even the brightness is not so good at all. In the lowest it's still breeding my eyes. In the sunlight it's quiet dim. Really delicious. 2.Speaker. Yep it's suck Sony's speaker really is not improved back in 2013. It's really not loud, low bass, small impact, low quality if you not use equalizer to improve it. And the speaker will get lower since the days pasted and need to change the speaker due to the dust that get in side the speaker grill, And keep blocking the direction the sound. 3.Build quality. Yes, Sony Xperia Z1 is really look elegant, Yet premium but I mentioned that the glass is doing not very well. It's a fragile phone. Once you drop a drum stick with 1/3 foot. It's cracked with glass screen protector protected. 4.Battery life. When it passed 3 years you must change the battery because it's getting worse that you can only use 44% of it. Well it's not good. The good thing that I really like is LED indicator. It's freaking awesome I really do love that thing most of smartphone don't do this. and the color of the camera is good but terrible in the low light. And it's fast using in these days. I recommend this phone for who want to use for cheap or backup phone it's >$100 in the second hand and good condition, Even it's discontinued and not upgradable, But it's still rock and faster than iPhone 5s which really awesome. Or you can go for Sony Xperia XZ for 8.0 experience and unable to go to 9.0 but it's cheap and amazing product.

This phone brought in my country at 2014 early and till now I just once replace my battery because I use bad before. Overall this phone is very good. The hardware, include button case, etc design for durability. Still rock, don't have any proble. Screen still good, no dead pixel, no shadow. Early the overheat felt annoying, but as long as you use, it's no problem. I will give 8.5 from 10.

I've been using the phone for a little more than 2 years... it still works great. I still love the phone. Selfies come out a little blur in low light but the back camera captures cool pics every time. Best feature: Camera. Camera is just cool. Needs improvement: Speaker.

Regarding the camera, I think I understand what u are saying. In some benchmarks, Sony's rear camera always show 8MP am I right? This have happened for a long time already, my XPERIA Z1, XPERIA Z2, XPERIA Z3, XERIA Z3+, XPERIA Z5, XPERIA Z5 PREMIUM all showed 8MP for the rear camera in AnTuTu benchmark especially. But I am guessing they fixed the problem because my ANDROID OREO smartphones are showing 23MP in AnTuTu, this includes XPERIA X, XPERIA X PEFORMANCE, XPERIA XZ, XPERIA XZs, XPERIA XZ1 and XPERIA XZ PREMIUM. Note, I use Manual Mode for all of these, at first when I encountered this, I felt strange and surprised since the flagships have over 20MP, and I am getting 8mp here in AnTuTu. I searched online and some moderator said it is either because I left the camera with Manual Mode or Sony don't allow permission for AnTuTu to detect the rear camera. But looking at my ANDROID OREO smartphones, it seems like it is more likely to be a software bug that have been inside their software

I did also replaced the battery it works like charm. The only thing that im having issue with is its camera. Pictures from its original OS works better than the latest 5.1 android version. Latest OS has a lot of noise on the camera and im planning to downgrade it to its original OS.

Had battery replaced for 1/6 cost of a latest new phone at Sony. They resealed the waterproof and replaced the scratched lens area. Internal software upgraded. All installed apps and memory wiped. Feels brand new. Using brand new. Works brand new. Can never ask for a better deal.. not into the latest gadgets. Latest hasn't been latest for the past five years since many TOP tier mobile phone have produced very good handsets. This Sony still has a lot to give after refurbishing it. I simply love it. Sony still rocks at what they do! iPhone is a copy of the Sony concept. What should I say? Still love Sony.

It's been four years now and I'm still using my purple Z1. Battery was replaced once and it can still last a whole day. Apps are pretty laggy on stock ROM but the custom ROM (Resurrection Remix 5.8.4, Android 7.1.2) runs pretty fast and smooth.

I've downloaded version 108.0.0.17.68 and no problem ever sinds ...but i don't upgrade otherwise the same problem. Until now no problem . ....

I do believe its FB updates. Not sony's update because I'm on the 5.1.1 OS version and didn't update my FB to the most updated version and its currently working fine. No issues. Try uninstalling the app and reinstall.

I love how much resolution of the screen it has. Well the screen is TFT and it's look so terrible and much yellowish than IPS of Sony Xperia Z2. I love how built quality it is. It feels premium. Before that I used HTC Desire 816. But the battery is overcharge. The game experience is not bad. But definitely it won't worth in 2017.

Suddenly got the same issue many Z1 owners report lately: battery drop dead from ~50% to 0% out of nowhere. Power+VolUp restart fluctuates the battery meter wildly. Never upgraded the phone, always ran a firewall that blocks all but what I want (no sony+google+facebook bloatware) Was working stable for 3.5 years until recently. Hard-reset do not fix the issue. Now it's (almost) an e-waste brick as it wasn't designed to be fixed. Everything else is still working perfectly. I guess the only resort is to start exploring root/custom roms options. What about this "WarrantyService" that appears (sometimes) in the "background cached processes"?

I don't know what your problem is, but with my Sony Xperia Z1 i can surf on FB 24/7 :D But i have problems with my touch screen since 2013, when the phone heats up the Touchscreen begins it's own life -_- You type "a" and it types "i" instead. Sometimes it does weird actions like scrolling on it's self as well...

Same here. Right after the FB app June 19 released version was installed, my Xperia Z1 Compact completely freezed. So I waited for the next update released on June 26 to no avail, the phone keeps freezing. FB has messed big time its Android app, I've started suspecting a conspiracy between Sony and FB to force users to upgrade their devices.

Got that same issue with facebook where when opening the application, it just close. This causes the phone to reboot also. Think it is a facebook issue and waiting for an update on FB before installing again. I am actually using facebook Lite and it works perfectly well.

I reset mine to factory settings and installed just a few messenger apps (they seem to work fine) and it's still rebooting when I start certain apps. So far only 9gag app doesn't work at all and it almost always freezes after opening the app. Also once while using the Chrome browser and "Wetter Online" app. Before the reset it restarted way more often while using the chrome browser. Could it be that the Xperia Z1 got ditched completely by Sony and from now on there will be no updates to solve this crap?

It's a great phone. I have been using one for the last 3 years. The camera is very good, extremely stable, all applications run perfectly without a problem. The only issue I have with my phone is that the Sound quality isn't very good for music and loudspeaker during calls, and the flashlight is relatively weak. There's better phones in the market now which you can try for eg. Oneplus 1, Oneplus 2, or a higher version of Sony Xperia.

Mine is it tells me 15% battery low then for like 10 seconds it shuts off and the home screen shows 0% battery and when i tried to charge it, it starts at 0% and then for a few seconds it goes immediately to 40%. weird. maybe my battery is already defective? or my OS has the issue?

Had this phone for only 17 months then it started acting up. All of a sudden it shuts down even at 20% and it only gotten worse like from a full 100% charge I can only use it for like 15minutes then it shuts down saying battery empty. Now I had the battery changed but the problem is it won't charge fully and stops at 75%. I had good moments with my Z1 as it was my first android phone, I really like the multi-tasking capabilities, but now I am so disappointed with Sony. The problems I mentioned above was an issue 5 years ago until now they could not fix it somehow. And the camera? It's okay but not great only proves that megapixels ain't mean a thing. With the new Sony phones now, they haven't put much effort into making it standout. I don't see no difference and with the battery issues they have, I'm not buying any Sony phones anymore.

if only i could find just once android phone like z1(it doesnt have to be sony),so perfect even after more than 3 years,fast,fluid and stable like the first day and thats almost impossible for any of android phones. They have to open the seal behind by heating it up and use a card to stick into the back. Then they remove some parts inside to take out the battery. It is possible but it makes the phone not waterproof anymore

Honestly, I purchased this phone exclusively because I saw someone smash it into a concrete wall and have it still function. I have had mine for 4 years now, and so far it has held up to the test of time, forgetfulness, and clumsiness. The outter camera takes fantastic photos at all times, in all sorts of modes. It takes reasonably good low-light photos, and extremely good video and day photos. However, its screen-facing camera is... not that great, after a somewhat recent update to the Sony Camera software it force-enables skin blurring, which is overpowering and makes every selfie look nasty So you absolutely need to download a third party camera app ASAP. The speakers have always been very good, and the mic doesn't pick up a lot of static and background noise when making calls. I have never had a caller complain that it sounds like I am on a cellphone or in a wind tunnel. Regarding its durability, it has, on several occasions fallen on rocky terrain, concrete, ceramic, and linoleum coated concrete or stone slab floors. The most damage it has sustained is minor scratches and absolutely no performance loss. I haven't ever had to reformat the phone to factory default either, so that's a plus. At present, I have only had to change out one of the card slot covers, due to wear and tear, and I am just now looking into replacing the battery, because it started acting up about a week ago and now the back cover is starting to lift slightly as a result. Unfortunately, the completely sealed, waterproof design is sort of unfriendly to battery replacement. If I didn't have several years of tablet, phone, and computer repair experience, I would not be replacing the battery, but the entire phone. Overall? I paid 380-450 dollars for the phone, and I got 4 years of continuous performance, with an average battery life of 2 days per charge (until most recently). So you could say that it cost me 95-112 dollars a year, and after a 30 dollar repair, I suspect it will last another 4 years if cared for properly. The Z1 is an excellent phone and well worth the money.

The Phone gets hot after using it for some time. That is because Z1 is made to be water proof and dust proof. Which makes it compact and so there is no free air flow. Heating is common with Z1 and nothing to worry about. Because no matter how hot it gets it wouldn't slow down a bit, it wouldn't lag nor it would get turned off. So heating will not cause any kind of problem with performance of the phone. Not to worry about it.

In India we mostly get Sony Xperia Z1 C6902 version which does not support 4G C6903 supports 4G but is rarely found probably imported. That phone was launched when service providers were not even thinking about to provide 4G network in India. Airtel was the only one with 4G at that time and that too was limited to Bangalore. If there was 4G back then probably India would also have got the C6903 version of Z1 instead of C6902.

The only problem I faced is with battery draining. Long back when Lollipop was releases I directly upgraded to it from Jelly Bean and faced lot of problem due to comparatively faster draining of battery used it for 10days then I downgraded back to Jelly Bean. Now 3 months back after reading lot of reviews I again upgraded to Lollipop hoping that the battery draining will get set to normal. But even after three months I can say that Jelly Bean provided a very long battery life in comparison to Lollipop. It still drains lot faster than Jelly Bean. Nothing can be done about it as hardware used in Z1 was better optimized to run with Jelly Bean. One of my family friend bought it last year(2015) which came in with Lollipop pre-installed. But it still drains battery faster than my Jelly Bean Z1. He actually bought it to get longer battery life as he was fed-up with SAMSUNG products. He is now asking me if there is possibility of downgrading Lollipop to Jelly Bean. Note: In both the cases I skipped Kitkat update so cannot tell the difference in battery draining between Jelly Bean and Kitkat or Kitkat and Lollipop.

And i firgot to answer you(lol); yes,u can update your phone,it works great on 5.1.1; the only 'issue' u can have after the update(or maby u wont) is that battery will drain faster in a couple of next days,but its normal after the update and the battery will be fixed by itself in a short time(till it adjust to a new software,not more than a week)

After one year all the covering seals for charging and memory card came off, after two years the touch went crazy, the screen would be clicked in every direction, calling people and causing me embarrassment. Also the software died a lot of times and caught in the boot loop. Z1 has very good specs, and I really enjoyed it at the first, but it's not durable at all and will give you headaches. Over heating is not a problem with XPERIA Z1. XPERIA Z1 is designed to be compact to make it water and dust proof which restricts air flow through it. Because of its compact nature the phone over heats. To get a lot longer battery life. Switch on STAMINA mode and set brightness to low and switch on auto brightness. With STAMINA mode on lot of battery will be saved but will cutoff WiFi connection when display screen is off. You will not be getting notifications when screen is off while stamina mode is on. In that case you will have to switch the screen on in regular intervals to get notifications from apps like whatsapp viber and other apps. All other features work normally. But the battery last lot longer with STAMINA mode.

That features enables the usage of phone in a comfortable way when attached to magnetic dock. The drawback is that it considers the magnetic cable to be same as magnetic dock and automatically switches to rotation mode. It cannot be solved(unless you root the device which is not recommended).

It is a realy good phone, especialy because it is 3 years old. I use it as my personel phone and it is realy fast. the camera is fast has fast focus and it has an amazing anti-shake feature. it has an build-in equalizer and ClearAudio+ with earbuds you will enjoy life because it sounds amazing. I also droped it a few times and it is still perfectly fine. I came back to this phone from a 2016 phone because this phone was faster! (did not expect that myself) The only thing i find annoing is that in direct sunlight it is hard to see. if its is black text on white background you can read. if you keep your phone fingerprint free you will be able to see it much better in sunlight.

Don't upgrade to Lollipop until it is necessary. There is a huge possibility of facing problem with battery and lag issues on upgrade. There are very few cases that Lollipop upgrade worked perfectly without causing problem. You should be very lucky to upgrade and face no problems. Getting a Z1 with pre-installed Lollipop is a different thing as the Z1s with pre-installed are far more stable and better than ones that are upgraded. Would recommend you to try solving problem without requirement of upgrading to Lollipop

First would recommend to check the limit of devices that can be connected to your wifi modem at a time. If there are many devices connected together at same time there is possibility of loosing connection on one device. There is a possibility of the connection failure due to modem and not because of Z1. Try connecting other wifi connections at you friends home or some where else and check it out if it getting constant wifi connections. Had similar experience with my laptop: I too have this kind of problem but with my HP laptop. It looses connection with my home wifi but works perfectly with external wifi connections. This is caused due to wifi router. I use old mobile as wifi extender(this will only work for laptop)

There are two ways of downgrading the software. Official way: This is simple way but impossible one depending on the user. This method requires you having backup copy of the image which was created when your phone had Jelly Bean or Kitkat on it. Most probably you would have Lollipop pre-installed or upgraded without creating a complete backup image.(In my case I backed up the entire software image before upgrading to Lollipop and switched back to Jelly Bean using it). Unofficial way: You can downgrade to Jelly Bean or Kitkat using firmware copies from external sources. You will be needing flashtool and firmware you require to install. The procedure of doing it is easy. But finding the firmware required is difficult. The flash tool can be found in XDA develpoers site as well as firmware. But links provided by them are mostly not working when I tested. But try finding firmware from other sources. The flashtool can be found in XDA developers site. All the best :)

I think you did not try different settings the phone has to offer. Because it is the best quality you can get. Overheating: The Z series of XPERIA is known to be water and dust proof. To make the phone water and dust proof it is made air tight which prevents air flow through it. This causes it to over heat. Even if it get over heated it will never lag or get switched off due to that reason. Automatically dims: The auto brightness setting is the reason for that. If you want full brightness all the time set brightness to max and remove auto brightness. This should solve the problem. Headphone Volume: There could be problem with headphones. If headphones work better with other gadgets then check the app. SONY Walkman app which is now called Music is one of the best audio apps in play store. This is basic and most probably you have noticed and crossed it, that the device does not allow you to play at full volume as it restricts it to half to make sure that our ears are not damaged on long run. You can easily bypass that restriction. If still you are getting low volume try using equalizer. I hope that your problem will be solved to some extent. :)

Very poor built quality, the phone keeps overheating and automatically dims the sreen that makes it hard to see whats going on. Headphone volume is very quiet even at loud music tracks. Comparing to my old Iphone 4 or HTC ONE M8 the XperiaZ1 sounds like it has no headphone amplifier what so ever! This was a lesson for me, i bought this phone before reading related problems online. Wasted a lot of money and now the only purpose of the phone is to use it as a camera. BTW the camera is the only thing that is proper in the phone but thats not what makes a phone, phone!

For people who are having problem with battery: If you guys are having trouble with battery and are using Z1 which has Lollipop in it the only thing you can do is to downgrade the software to Kitkat or even better Jelly Bean. Lollipop on XPERIA Z1 has some major issues like draining of battery and even lagging of phone. If you are having Jelly Bean or Kitkat as your UI then try using stamina mode which will show a lot of improvement on the battery life. XPERIA STAMINA MODE is one the best software I have seen to extend the battery usage. It nearly cuts down the power usage when on for all the apps except receive calls and messages. If you lock your phone with Stamina Mode on and return in a day to check it out you will find less than 3-5% battery is drained. Lollipop upgrade is not good: I have seen a lot o people want to upgrade their XPERIA Z1 UI to Lollipop which is not good. It will cause a lot of trouble like fast battery drain and the phone starts to lag. For small amount of extra features and very few apps which require Lollipop to run I would not upgrade my phone to loose the smooth running. Nearly all the apps and games I have come through support Jelly Bean or at-least Kitkat then why do you need Lollipop. Marshmallow upgrade: There will not be a Marshmallow upgrade for XPERIA Z1 as it is hardly able to satisfy needs of Lollipop and is causing problems it will get worse with Marshmallow upgrade.

One of the best phones for gaming. Charged to 100% t will last you at least 1full day for hardcore gaming depending on what type of games you play. If you play high graphic offline games(NFS Most Wanted etc) it will last you 1.5+ days. Low graphic online games(Clash Of Clans etc) it will last 1 full day. High graphics online games(Injustice etc) it will last nearly 1 day depending on game. There are other phones which are also good for gaming but this phone will last longer than any other phone I have ever seen. I have been using this phone for last three years and the quality of this phone is exceptional because my phone fell down more than thousand times and still works without causing a single problem and without lagging a single time in last three years even while playing high graphic requirement games. The phone heats some times it heats like crazy because the design of the phone is made to keep it water and dust proof means no space for air to pass through it. But even when the phone gets over heat the performance will not drop no matter what happens an will not lag no matter how hot it gets. That is the best part about this phone.

In the case of XPERIA Z1 I would recommend you to stick with pre-installed OS version unless you really need it especially don't upgrade to lollipop until it is not required. If you upgrade to lollipop battery life will fall and there will big chance of phone to lag, which will never happen if you stick to factory OS.

I have bought my Xperia Z1 more than 2 1/2 years ago and still doing very good. 1 day of battery for intense usage, and up to 3 days when not really used. It is still fast and screen is really good. Camera doing great pictures, even compared to modern phones. Water protection really good, I wash it regularly with soap without problem. Now I am thinking to move to Z5 as it is the last water resistant phone from Sony. New generation is not anymore certified.

It's one of the worst phones I've had yet. For the first 5 months, it was a pretty good phone and I was happy with it. Suddenly, the phone shut off and when I turned it on it had so many problems. First, the notification bar did not work at all, it was annoying but still tolerable even though I couldn't fix it. But, the battery is garbage. It will die even though it still has 20% or I won't even be using it and it lowers until it runs out. Also, it takes too long for it to charge above 5%, I believe it was plugged in and was still at 5% for an hour. This week I got a new phone, so I decided to transfer my photos to my laptop. However, I can not find them anywhere. I've checked other forums and nothing works with me. I think I've spent around 5 hours uploading my photos to drive, which I think is very stupid. I wouldn't recommend anyone buy it and I surely will not get another Sony phone.

Too bad that the screens are so fragile; A little hairline crack and the whole phone becomes unusable (it happened to me). I bought my Sony Xperia z1 in Feb 2014. It was working fine for the first 6 month. After that it started having problems, i.e. the screen would turn black or the touch screen wouldn't work. Less than in 2 years the battery life started rapidly decreasing. It started turning off while still having 20% battery life. After three more month it started turning itself off while still having 80% battery life. Contacted Sony, they suggested it's a software issue and emailed me a link to download Xperia Companion. The software restore option didn't work. I contacted Sony again, they suggested to update Java. After audating Java, the software restore still not working. Overall, very dissapointed and will never buy any Sony mobile phones ever.

Don't know how long you have been using it but I have been torturing it for nearly three years. After 3 months exactly my phone will turn 3yrs. The way I used it can be described as extreme. I threw everything at it all heavy games and maintained its storage at 90-100% excluding SD card. Played nearly all heavy games till date. It never lagged for a sec in this 3yr which I don't think any other phone in market is capable of doing that. Battery life with the stamina mode and brightness setting set to auto at first I had a battery life of solid 3days+ for making calls, browsing, chatting and other basic stuff and 1.5days+ for regular gaming and heavy stuff. Now even after 3yrs it gives 2days+ for basic stuff and nearly 1full day for gaming and heavy stuff. Again top of the line compared to other phones in market. Phones quality is exceptional. Dropped it more than 100times and some times it dropped on rough surfaces and at extreme distances. Like once the cover I was using cracked and the clips broke of the case was in hand and phone went flying few meters and fell on solid concrete path and dint even get a scratch on screen except for a scratch on metal frame which is fine by me as glass was not broke or had a scratch. Don't think any other smartphone except Xperia Z can take abuse like this and still come out in nearly perfect condition.

At the price it goes for now, it can blow all of todays midrangers out of the water and send them packing to their grave! The 5.1 update has been awesome and it has a decent sized community on xda with many CM12.1 ROMs if those tickle your fancy. The aluminium+glass body looks insanely good and persevered through all the tortures I've put it through so far ;) The camera is obviously the best part with the same IMX220 sensor being used on both the z2 and z3,and does support hi-bitrate 4k and 120fps slow-mo with a software mod.But the front camera is kinda crappy in low light. The 2013 flagship chipset SD800 can keep pace with todays games and I can play GTA:SA without a hitch though it aint as good as the powerful monstrosity that is the SD820. SOT can be anywhere from 4hrs at worst to 6hrs at best. Now, being waterproof might sound like a gimmick until you actualy use it. Imo, it has to be the most useful feature onboard. I don't have to worry about using it in the rain, dont have to worry about getting food or dirt on it cuz I can just put it under a tap. And it does have a dedicated shutter button making underwater photography delightfully feasable, something that I have done with joy and have bragged about on quite a few occasions.

Guys I had this phone since 2013 and didn't got even a single problem. Camera is just awesome. Don't listen to Samsung users as Sony is making the camera lens for them. I read it If your gonna buy it just go for it. It never disappoints you. I have played and completed games like gta sa, asphalt 8,Nova 3. I had an Samsung galaxie j5 Andrei I got an Z1 for it. I regret every minute. Tris z1 has a bathery life half the J5 has. Also The camera is Very poor quality, it has 20 mp for nothing. The audio was better on j5. On this the battery drains too fast, on j5 I used to get throw a full day but on this s--t maybe maybe 5-6hours. The only ,,good'' thing is it has 16Gb instead of 8 on J5.

It's an amazing phone. Never had a doubt when I bought it, and I've never regretted doing it. The phone is water and dustproof. So, to not let water and dust into it the phone was made air tight. This causes heating problem, but there will be no effect at all on the performance of the phone due to heating even at very high temperature. Camera don't know what if there is really a problem with your camera or the piece you got. But primary camera of XPERIA Z1 at 20.7MP is one of the best in the market. Yes agreed the secondary camera is not good and not recommended for selfie-fans. Battery don't know how you use but I would recommend you to use Stamina Mode at-least at lower battery level. SONY Stamina Mode is the best because once your screen is switched off not even 1% of battery fall for a long time and even while using it it will last a very long time.

If it is a new one in its first 15days then you can get it replaced. First SONY would not agree but be stubborn and ask for replacement instead of repair, don't back even for a sec from your word and pressurize them until they agree to replace. This will only work if your phone is new and in first 15days. If replacing go for Z1 not Z2 as Z1 has better in build quality than Z2 and no big features added to Z2 except front camera was made better. I would go with better build quality over better front camera. But it is your call for what you want if you love clicking selfies go with Z2 but if not a selfie fan I would recommend Z1. REASON TO BUY XPERIA Z1 I live in India and have been using XPERIA Z1 since its launch. It has been more than 2yrs but still my phone runs without lagging or switching off by itself. It still gives nearly 2day battery life. There are many more plus points. But this whole thing is my experience. NOW THE MAIN THING Back in October-November 2015 which was a short while after SONY announced discontinuation of Z1 the phones sales went up like crazy. It was festive season in India and at this time we buy or gift things. At this time all over India nearly all things especially electronics go under huge discounts. That was when Z1 sales went high it went so high that it set a new record with 5.8million sales in 2-3 weeks and 6.5million in month in India for highest selling phone in a month in discontinued segment. But even that is less crazy compared to what happened in that sales. As I said that in that period all electronics go under huge discount, but this was not the case with Z1. Its price quoted by SONY India was ₹17,799 and guess the phone was selling at ₹24,000 and went up to ₹32,000. This was the only phone to have the price at nearly 200% of its original price and still get sold off completely. Even at very high price of ₹32,000 it had 0.6million sales. At ₹28,000 to ₹32,000 range there were many other phones with better specs but still peoples choice was Z1. Now it is out of stock and to be nowhere found in India(Indian version not imported one). NOW YOU THINK WHY WOULD 5.8MILLION PEOPLE GO FOR IT WITH EVEN THAT HIGH PRICE

That is not true. Yes, we agree XPERIA Z1 is a discontinued model by SONY, but the products that the manufactured even which are sold long after their discontinuation(if sold by authorized dealer or high rated retailer) it will always have 1year manufacturer warranty. Even if you go for a phone with similar specs or even higher specs the thing that matters is the quality in which Z1 is unmatched. Even though Z2 and Z3 have better specs they fall behind in toughness.

First of all XPERIA Z1 is 2013 model released by SONY at that time 4G was not there around the world so there was no sense in including a feature which will not be out for at least a year or two. Still XPERIA Z1 do have 4G support but only for one or two variants. It is your responsibility to check the variant you are buying and to confirm with seller that whether it has 4G support or not. But no offense some good retailers can change the piece if you are not satisfied with the services you got from them. Try to get it replaced if the 4G variant is available in your locality. :)

Dont buy the compact series. It only has a 720 display compared to Z's that has already 1080p resolution. Compact series not good for hd video streaming. Especially when you use vr camera the visibility of the pixels is very much noticeable. Go for 1080p resolution phones.

I've been owning this lovely phone for over a year now and I gotta say that is the best phone I've had. Coming from Note 2 and S4, I was a bit skittish (bad publicity), but my expectations were literally blown away. The most fluid and smoothly Android you can have, no lags or heat only for when playing big rich games. My only issue is the screen, sometimes it becomes unresponsive and is selecting stuff by itself. I know that is a wide issue concerning most if not all owners and hope for a future update. If you did not root your device then you can visit any SONY Center(Visiting SONY Service Center is not compulsory as nearly all SONY Centers have drivers and new-upgrades for nearly all SONY Products) near your locality and they should be able to help you. If you did then you will not get the update.

COC is a battery killer. But still it should work at-least from morning to evening which is 3/4th of a day when charged to 100%. While playing COC mine does something above 3.5/4th a day as I am using Jelly Bean. But when I tested Lollipop(not upgraded lollipop, only pre-installed one) battery it was almost as good as Jelly Bean. If using upgraded lollipop then yes there is a serious battery drain problem(some say that it gets better after some time- I am not sure of it). Heat problem agreed it does get heated when playing games because of compact nature as it has waterproof and dustproof feature, but it will never effect the performance of the phone or battery.

Simply both are smooth, but Z1 is lot more reliable for very long run. Z1 can give same service that you get when it is new for up-to 2years+(even if you throw any thing you throw on it and push it to its max limits even without external memory it runs like a gem) where as Samsung can only give for 1year(hardly, only if you use it without throwing a lot pressure on it then it would last a bit longer). But Note 3 is no match for Z1 in battery. Give you a example. My experience with it- I had hardly 20% battery in the morning while stepping out for at 7am college. I used the phone for browsing in college and for sharing files using shareit and superbeam. As I travel in metro I always listen to music in the train. The travel time is 1.45hr-2hr. I called my parent 3-4 times and every time the call was nearly 15-20min long. The only thing I dint do is play games on that day as my battery was very low. At the end when I reached home at 5pm I still had 4% battery left. For sure Note 3 cannot do that.

To make it waterproof and dust proof they made the phone air tight so it is hard for heat to escape easily. But this doesn't effect phones performance at all. Yes volume is low so you can use any high tone pitch as ringtone and also set it vibration while ring you can easily notice the vibration in your pocket. When at home you cane hear the your new set high pitch music. Sorry for late reply. I am using 4.3 Jelly Bean. And I think you upgraded to Lollipop instead of getting the device preinstalled with it. There is a very big problem of battery drain with Lollipop upgrade. I also had my Jelly Bean upgraded to Lollipop but within 1-2 weeks I switched back to Jelly Bean because I had my phone and software pack backed up. Don't worry even if you did not backup your software package you can find the previous firmware online. But do backup your files now because downgrading software will erase internal data completely.

I have the same experience.. But i found a solution.. Instead of using full auto mode, use manual mode then set the ISO to the highest posible.. Try with flash on and off.. Z1 has the best lowlight camera for me so far.. Im gonna buy new when my one breaks to pieces.. LoL

I got mine updated to 14.6.a.1.216 5.1.1 lollipop.. Now my standby time is good.. Just a tip.. Sometimes the powersaver seems to be not functioning.. What i do is deactivate powersaver then restart and wait for 5 minutes after reboot then activate.. Also dont use it often on broad daylight, brightness will be on full blast due to automatic brightness.. Dont use auto sync, nfc and gps.. Cheers.. :)

Is the piece new. If it is new please reply. It is risky to get it repaired from local service point but is more risky to leave it as it is. I would recommend you to stand there and get it repaired instead of leaving it to him and unless he is a famous and well-known one to you or in locality around. It is a small repair if I think what I described is the problem, so it should not take long.

I am using it for last 2years and it had no need for a reboot. I tried nearly all gaming giants like asphalt8, need for speed most wanted, injustice gods among us and online server games like clash of clans but it never had lagging problem. It is very clear that your phones battery is not working properly. Because I am using this phone for 2 years and still after two-long years it gives me nearly 1.5-2day battery backup. As you stated that it has only been 10days since you bought I would recommend you to hurry to your nearby SONY Service Center and demand for replacement of the piece instead of repairing because it is in its first 15days. First they would not agree, but bee stubborn and don't back down pressure them and they will agree. That should solve your problem. If you need any other help please feel free to ask. :)

Yep agreed the front camera is the major drawback for the phone. But the exceptional 20.7mp primary camera balanced its negativity. Still, to be exact the zoom-in problem was solved in XPERIA Z3 and the low-light problem was solved by XPERIA Z5. The primary camera that Z5 is having is the ever-best rated camera for any smartphone, in fact only next to professional cameras it even crushed NOKIA 48mp, SAMSUNG 16mp and iPhone 6S 16mp. The front ca,era quality is improved by including 5mp in newer models. But being an old-school Z1 is way ahead its league.

For me Jelly Bean and Kitkat are better over Lollipop. Reason they are have more user friendly UI. I even feel that icons of Kitkat are better than Lollipop. For example the swap between sound settings, in Kitkat you can easily change from ring mode to vibrate and silent mode by sliding down the notification bar once. In Lollipop you don't have that option, you will either have to press the volume button and then change the settings or go into settings to change it. Second thing i lollipop you will have to slide down notification bar twice to get all tools included on it. In Lollipop you get additional torch and screen recorder. Torch you can get using app on Kitkat but if you want record screen to upload videos or share something you will have to go with Lollipop.

Go for XPERIA Z1 because it has many plus points over OPPO Find 7, where as OPPO has only one over XPERIA that is front camera. Some of my friends use OPPO just for months, and they are having many problems like battery drain, phone switching off on its own and other. It is not true. If you are having problem of blur while capturing video then it means there is problem with camera. If it is new phone in its first 15days then hurry and visit SONY Service Center. Explain them your problem and most probably they will replace your piece with new one. First they will try to convince you, but don't back from your word and try to be stubborn. If it crossed first 15 days but still in warranty period still visit SONY Service Center and get it repaired for free.

The Sony Z1 is overall a fantastic phone in terms of performance and it's ability to handle somewhat abusive multitasking haha...however i must say as a Z1 user it really disappoints in the reception it receives from any network provider. it has a lot of difficulty switching from 4g to 3g to 2g. the line tends to drop and experience loss of signal so much to the point that it is annoying. recently found out too that i am not alone in this :(

Hye everyone......i'm going to tell you about xperia z1.......I'hv personally Samsung galaxy s4.....nd my sister is using xperia Z1.......at first i used to like Xperia Z1 but after comparing it with Gs4.......it has some pros. and cons..Xperia has better performance.......works fluently......but its display isn't like that good.Its triluminous display doesnt produces colours as s4's AMOLED screen produces.And todays main thing is heating.......both get hot while using normally or heavy usage.....When both gets hot,S4 cools down quickly because of its plastic body but Z1 takes too much time to cool down because of its aluminium body. Then come to the battery life-Xperia has better battery life than S4 for sure but not much more impressive.At first i thaught Xperia has vry better battery life but not that much.But its ok. Lets come to camera performance.Xperia's camera is better in outdoor daylight photos.But when it comes to dark or low light conditions,xperia's photos vanishes.S4's Camera is overall better in all way. I have tested Antutu benchmark test.Xperia won the performance test but except graphics.S4's graphics is way better then xperia. Overall both are good phones as per use.Xperia Z1 is heavy than S4.But in my opinion i like mine S4 beacause i like crisp clear Graphics.

If you know any mobile repair shops then go there and ask the person to check if there is battery problem. Otherwise don't visit any unknown or new repair shops as they may tamper the phone, visit SONY Service Center they may cost a bit but will solve your problem completely.

Yes most probably it would. But no SONY Service Center would do that because it would be against their norms. The only thing you could do is to get it removed from local mobile store, which I wouldn't recommend. If the person doing the work is not a professional it would lead other major problems, but it is not compulsory that something would go wrong. Get them removed only if necessary and all the best for doing so. :)

There is no solution for this problem. The heating problem is caused because of compactness of the phone due to its waterproof and dustproof nature. SONY had made XPERIA Z1 air tight which causes it to get over heat. But it does not effect its functioning in any way even in long run. The only possible solution for your hand from getting a burn is to use a plastic cover. Even it gets heated but not as much as the phone does.

Anil If you are in India. It is most probably out of stock in stores except online stores like Big C mobiles. But I would recommend you to hold XPERIA Z1 in hand and feel its weight and toughness. It is heavier and tougher than people think before holding it.The phone is way different than you get to see in images on net because the screen is always shown switched on. It dose not show the reflection of the phone. To get exact look of phone if you know no one having Z1 in person or stores are out of stock for display then just have a look at you-tube videos of 'Unboxing XPERIA Z1' that will show you exactly how XPERIA Z1 looks a bit more realistic than images. But holding a Z1 is way beyond looking its images and videos.

About thickness I agree it is 0.6mm thicker than XPERIA Z which is negligible. It has more than one reasons. Basic reasons size of hardware components like battery and camera. Technical reason the thickness of glass increased by 0.1mm on each side as they had maintain the ratio of thickness to size of the glass to maintain its strength. Yes, the phone over heats. It is because SONY made it compact and air tight to create waterproof and dustproof phone. It dose over heat a lot depending on usage. It over heats but the over heating never effect the phones performance. I have been using this phone since last 2yrs. It gets overheated daily and over heats a lot as I play high graphic games for long time, but the phone never slowed its reaction time, never stuck or got switched off due to over heating or any other problem. The phone runs smooth what-so ever happens.

Selfie cam is the only drawback of the phone as it is not good at all. If I go into deep about this topic the camera works worst when you are in-side a building with normal lighting. There has always been an problem with Lollipop upgrade. When I upgraded all the apps were working but the phones reaction time went down and the battery life was cut down to half. But I was lucky that I backed up my phone and operating system which I then used to downgrade my phone back to jelly bean. If you backed up the phone before upgrade then use SONY PC Companion to install it back and downgrade to old version of android which is best for Z1. If you don't have backup then visit XDA Developers site and find how to downgrade your XPERIA Z1. If any more help needed feel free to ask. :)

It is not possible that the sound is not clear because the 350hz speakers with SONY Walkman app should work like a gem. First of I would recommend you to try different settings or adjust setting. If you already tried it and it did not help the only thing you can do is to visit SONY Service Center and get the wiring checked. Most probably it is lose wiring problem. But if the speaker is defective then it would take longer time to get repaired as they will have to change the part. In very-rare cases it can be problem of motherboard and if that is the problem then you will get the piece replaced.

If you are talking about primary camera then it is a problem. But if you are talking about secondary camera then it is common because as I said before, the biggest drawback of XPERIA Z1 is its secondary camera. If the problem is with primary camera and the phone is in warranty then visit to SONY Service Center they will solve your problem. If the phone is new and in first 15 days from its billing date then hurry to SONY Service Center and you can demand for an exchange and get a brand new piece instead. In this case of exchange sometimes the SONY officials claim camera to be working fine, but just don't give-up and try to be stubborn and stick to your word what so ever happens never back down from your word and they will give-up and exchange it for you. Otherwise there should-not be any problem.

As I see many people are showing interest in this phone. I don't know about other parts of the world, in India it is selling like hot cakes and at very high price than the price quoted by SONY officially. This is to inform that the only site and place where you can get XPERIA Z1 for less in India is in Big C Mobile Store. But don't how long the stock would long so best of luck.

Z1 was released 2 yrs back at that time it was the fastest charging phone. In this two yrs many brands tried and improved the speed of charging of. Still it takes only 40-60min to get 100% which is fast enough for even present timeline.

Best phone there is except you are a selfie fan and to prove it I can give you an example of Indian market. For past one week the Indian market is going crazy around Z1, it was INR16,000($246)-INR20,000($308) at max before last week, now it is INR26,000($400)-INR33,000($510) and still selling like hotcakes. Even with this high price in most of the sites it is sold out.No phone ever got an increment in price like this after it was officially taken down by the brand itself.

bought this phone at sony centre, aeon bandaraya melaka. been using it for a year. everything is good except the waterproof claim by sony. i used it underwater (swimming pool) for search & rescue of my friend engagement ring by turning the flash light on underwater. the phone immersed maximum around 50cm from water level, average 20cm to 30cm. Nearly 20 minutes underwater the phone started to flickering, becomes dims and i immediately turn off the phone. i dried my phone using towel but it seems that the water already inside the phone as the camera lens becomes hazy. next, i open the covers besides the phone, and water already damages the phone as the indicator of waterdamages turns to orange colour. i came home to find my warranty. it seems that sony doesn't cover any waterdamages. i sent the phone to authorised sony centre in mahkota parade melaka for checkup and repair. i have to bear the cost of repair estimated around rm500++ (they need to change battery and several cables inside the phone, the good news is the motherboard is safe). i bought that phone around rm1700. the bad news is until now i didn't have my phone. nearly 1 and half months in sony service centre in mahkota parade melaka. for all user please make sure to not use this phone underwater. they can say that it is our fault that didn't close the covers properly or what even we hold the coves properly underwater. do not trust advertisement 100%. water don't friends with electronic items, they ruined them.

dsk0808 sorry for my bad reply, in India usage of flac files is very rare so I never heard of it personally. I got the problem the only solution is to use a converter. The apps I recommend are media converter and mp3 media converter.

If this happened recently then I would recommend to wait and see if the moist disappears on its own due to phones heat. But if this problem is from long time and the phone is in warranty then just visit SONY Service Center in no time they will repair it on the spot and solve the problem(depending how the Service Center works in your locality). If your phone is out of warranty you can still get it repaired for low cost as there is no replacement of any part.

K....let me guess you have older version of Z1 which you upgraded to Lollipop and then downgraded either because of slow reaction time or faster drain of battery life. Now you are having trouble with Kitkat then don't worry visit to XDA developer and downgrade to Jelly Bean instead of upgrading to Lollipop if you are having any trouble with Lollipop like battery drain.(or if this is not correct prediction please give more details about the problem and I will try to solve it)

If you are talking about flash videos download VLC player for android from play-store. If you are talking about flash games you will have to download 2 software's 1.Adobe Air(play-store) 2.SWF Player(play-store) If you install both of these you can play flash games on android using SWF Player as emulator. Need any more help feel free to ask. :)

If yo have a direct Pen-drive connector XPERIA Z1 will read the content of Pen-drive directly. I had one actually the store from where I bought XPERIA Z1 gave me that as a compliment. I used it many times.

To make it simpler for you, if we compare Mi4i with Z1 the only thing Xiaomi is winning over SONY is the front camera. Z1 is far batter than any other models at its price range therefore I recommend you to for it, but if you are a selfie fan then Z1 is not recommended as the front camera of the Z1 is only drawback it is having.

Hello Jack You have 3 points, I will be taking the 1st one in the last. Lets discuss 2 and 3 2. XPERIA Z1 is having one of the best cameras in the market. But to be exact if you have enough light you will get picture with a crisp that no SAMSUNG gave at that time or even now except present flagships of SAMSUNG. In low light it is a problem the image will get pixelated, but you do have an option of flash. But I wouldn't recommend flash to be used when there is enough light because it decreases the sharpness or say originality of image. (This problem can be negated by its long battery life and it never hangs or switches off as SAMSUNG do) 3. The display of Z1 is one of the best I have ever tested under the bright light of the sun. I am saying this because even it is completely glass from outside the brightness of the phone is just awesome it is clearly visible until and unless direct sun's reflection is falling on it. And if you are talking of resolution, it is a Full-HD display with 1080p which is as good as SAMSUNG and MOTO. 1. Now lets come to point 1, I took this point in the last because I already explained about it before in tagline, please read below. :) ------------------------------------------------­--------- The problems with Z series is that it took SONY to next level in name and fame but it also got SONY XPERIA into economical loss. As this is XPERIA Z1's post line lets take it as example. The XPERIA Z1 costed INR48,000($735) now it is INR18,000($275) but according to SONY only the front and back glass cost INR15,000($230) each which in total costs INR30,000($460) and just imagine how much other hardware components cost. First I thought the quality will fall but SONY did a foolish mistake and promised never to bring down their quality with the price. And that's where they went into loss. The should have simply discontinued the old models.

If you are having screen guard on it there are possibilities that it is a dust-particle stuck in between screen and screen guard. If there is no screen guard then it can be a dead-pixel but not compulsory. Try to clean with a wet-wipe or use some water on it(water will not effect the phone) if it washes away then it is a small stain or it is a dead pixel. And if it is very small and hardly visible just ignore it. :)
