My phone after it decided to update over 200 + apps ( which I do not have) & then optimize more than once, now will not turn on completely . it is in a continuous loop with sony experia zl then shuts off then on then off again. I have tried using the reboot re: volume & power button to no avail. Now it wont even shut off even when I pressed the off button in the battery compartment. What did they do for you phone to fix please as all my contacts , ect are on my phone as it is my main phone. I am frontline for ill family so need it to work, please help thank you. I even have it plugged in to see if that would make a difference if it was the battery but still in a loop. I cant even get to safemode ( tried what another poster had suggested but never done safe mode before this ) Nothing is backed up as just got the phone given to me last month so no time. It was working ok but noticed the battery would get extremely hot so have an app that cools it down fast. Lately I noticed my msn wasnt downloading or not showing but gmail was too. :( Any & all help would be much appreciated thank you.

This phone has been used as my father's daily driver for 3 years, before handing it over to me. Today, the phone reached 5 years old, and it still runs smoothly (although some apps are slower due to the lack of optimization). The two only cons I can find in this phone are the overheating problem and fast battery drain compared to others.

Just thought, if Sony was a leader in smartphone at the time like Samsung, we would have already thin bezel phones 3 to 4 years ago. Sony Xperia phones are actually very innovative, just underrated and unpopular due to the lack of support and advertisement.

Excellent phone. While I no longer use it as my main device, it served me as such for almost 4 years and still as backup phone. Writing this comment now with ZL actually, since my HTC is making forever startloop for second time in a year. Bought ZL as new, only changed new battery at some point. Very durable. Got to love the size too, wish there were new phones like this available.

I have it, and it's definitely not made to last one day. There are better options for cheap phones. I recommend the Huawei P20 Lite, or the Xiaomi Mi A1 if you want a nice cheap smartphone.

Probably a battery issue. Get a replacement battery and look at the how to on ifixit.com - I had this happen many times. Gone through numerous batteries which has been the major flaw of this phone. Still love so much about it though... If you have a multimeter check the voltage of the battery after you have removed it, and the replacement. Hopefully the replacement has more voltage and will kick the phone on. Another "quick" fix is to remove the back plate and just disconnect the battery, wait 10 seconds or so, then reattach the cable. This has worked for me to get the phone to reboot and load.

In my humble opinion... You should pass on XA or XA1. These are low rated phone. Choose instead the XZ series (XZ or XZs)... Invest a couple of dollars more to get a phone it will get you a good 4 to 5 years of use...

I'm with u on the ZL, love it and had it for 3+ years and would still have it had it not been taken from me :( When I did get a newer model, I went with the Z5. Still a good upgrade, and the cost nowadays are better. Screen is 5.2 and the side bezzles remind me of the ZL. Will miss that rubber back tho, the Z5's back is super slick in comparison.

Very good phone and durable too. I bought this phone just before Chrismas on December 2013. It served me for so long with excellent peformance. I never feel like need to upgrade & get new phone. The 5inches screen look really great in compact build & mine came in white colour so the back texture are not the same as black one. Sadly my little niece drop it into an aquarium last January so the battery died(unable to charge). So I will miss it greatly, what a great phone.

If you are hesitating about buying this phone JUST DO IT. Best smartphone for the price, is VERY underrated. I love Xperia ZL so much that i have 2 phones, black and white versions in case I lost one. It clearly EVERY new smartphone out there. Pros: -0 lags, 0 problems, the screen resolution is stunning and can handle lot's of apps and games without problem. It has Gyro and an IR Blast wich sometimes can be very useful. Cons: At first I thought that the camera was a piece of shit but here is the problem: Sometimes, the pictures or videos end's up beign foggy, wich means that the shitty plastic covering the lens is dirty or heavily scratched. The only thing u have to do is to gently scrub it with a cotton swab and the camera will be fantastic.

One of the besy flagship phone by sony. I was buy a year ago, old stock BNIB with no waranty. The major issue was battery malfunction, make my phone sudden death (only worked while device on charged). So i try to solved this issue by bypassing connector on my battery (made jumper) and my phone working like a charm till now with no more issue (except lil bit heat on my backcase when i playing game, but i tought that was normal, right ?). However, there is available cynogenmod 14.1 (nougat 7.1.1) for XZL make this device still up to date. Thanks sony for making this awsome phone, and thanks to our developer for keep this device updated. Regards.

One day suddenly my mobile turned off and it isn't turning back on. So, I checked on google and i come to know it's battery amlfunction issue, then went to service center and they said they don't repair Xperia ZL. Having the sony xperia for 3 years and one month makes me happy. The battery with 3g network use can get me up to 8-12 hours (the usage hours are approximately 2 hours- the other hours is in standby). By falling the microphone is damaged (got 70%down), now I'm talking only with handsfree. I am counting that the "free fall" accident had happened every 2 days, so having the lcd monitor ok without damages it's a fact that you can't ignore. (My son's Z3 got broken lcd in one month....)

Hi, My ZL is 3 years old as well but still works like a charm. The only issue is the earpiece speaker volume has dropped and I have to hold the phone real tight to my ear to hear the person speak. My battery drains fast as well but this is due to the age. Are you having the same ear piece volume issue?

No, I live in Brazil. About temperature my phone gets really hot when playing for a long time or using waze + spotfy while driving. But that's not a problem since my sister Moto G 2 also get really hot when playing heavy games.

Yesterday my ZL suffered "sudden death" too, only after 2 months of use ._. Are those sudden death problems really that bad with ZL because dozens of users have reported that their ZL died after only couple of months or even weeks!?! I have send it back to online store where i bought it and i hope it will not be repaired because i don't want another ticking timebomb that breaks too... ...i hope i'll get some other Xperia phone within the same price range. Don't worry, you are not alone. I brought my ZL in Sept 2013,and a month later it just snapped and turned off out of nowhere. Even after restart it will boot for a while and again goes off, sometimes i get to see the home screen for a few seconds if I'm lucky.I took it to a sony service outlet and they promptly replaced it in a few weeks. I asked them what the hell went wrong in a month old phone, 'Connector issue sir' was their only reply. Sony Service won't touch ur device for repair, they'll only replace and since ur warranty is long gone you will be asked to pay like ₹10,000 ($180) and u'll have options to compensate with models like Z, Z1,ZR depending on the availability,since ZL is not made in large scale. Well what i suggest is you can easily get it repaired with a local reputed shop albeit a reputed one for a fraction of that price. But believe me after that replacement my phone is still working like a charm and it has served me extremely well for 2.5 years now and my next phone is still a few months away. Good luck.

I had the same problem sometime back i took it to service center, they were asking me to replace the phone because of that I took it to a street side shop he told me it was battery's connector issue if i replace the battery kit it will be alright try this it is cheap as well as 6 months warranty is given if u ask him to use original parts.

What i have read, that unfortunately is a very known problem with Z and ZL :/ Both models are suffering from sudden deaths but not every model. I'm afraid that you are just unlucky and your ZL is dead now... ...can you replace it?

When i bought Xperia ZL for little over 200€, i already knew battery life isn't great in this phone from couple of reviews. I don't think Sony ruined battery life of this phone as battery life wasn't great on Jelly Bean to begin with. I can see why Lollipop eats more battery than Jelly Bean or KitKat so battery life shortening with Lollipop makes sense for me. Also, getting 3 year old flagship for only 200+€ (as new) sounds pretty good deal to me since this was 600€ phone in 2013!

It's interesting to see Sony upgrading the Xperia ZL and ruining the battery life in the process and finally failing to keep upgrading the phone at one point and leaving eventual flaws as if they didn't exist. The Xperia SP went through a single update if I'm not wrong and then it was abandoned. When it comes to smartphones, I've only had Xperias so far, and the ruined battery life followed by a lack of update leaves me wondering which brand to buy next, even having no other complains about Sony and coming from a Japanese background myself.

I just bought this beauty as new for only little over 200€! Updated it all the way to 5.1.1 and i love it! I can't believe ZL is still the most compact 5 incher in the market and that's an impressive achievement! :) Let's hope Sony will still give it some Marshmallow love but i highly doubt it.

I don't know exactly what you mean, but there's updates from 4.1.2 all the way to 5.1.1 :) Marshmallow may come at some point in the future but it's very unlikely.

Speaker was in horrible place and bezels were little too big for my taste. And i'm not a big fan of glass back so looks like ZL "fixes" all these flaws for me :) And i managed to find a new ZL for about 200€!

all the updates are ok by OTA. If you prefer, use flashtool to flash manually a ROM as you wish

I don't think ZL gets Marshmallow update... Sony already did a great favor for giving it 5.1.1 update although device was already 2,5 years old at the time. But if it still gets Marshmallow at some point, that will be great exclusive extra from Sony to ZL owners :)

The phone just drop dead and only turn on while charging so a i took to a sony repair shop in my city they stayed 2 months with the phone and didnt fix anything so i took it out of the store and replaced the battery myself. Unfortunately it didnt work at all the phone still need to be charging to turn on. I really don´t know what to do right now. I loved this phone and i would like to fix it.

Awsome phone. I picked up one of ebay for 80 dollars with a dead battery. Got a new battery off ebay and replaced it myself. Its not difficult. Just see youtube on how to do it. Bets phone ever no new phones have a better form factor. I love it.

Replace the battery... You can easily get one from eBay at around ₹1200 and then ask a local repairshops to replace it.. Other wise there are plenty of videos available on YouTube from which you can by yourself replace the battery

Best phone I have ever owned! In may its gonna be three years old and I have no desire to exchange it for a new one. The hardware is still top notch and the size is perfect. I had to change the speaker because i once spilled some beer on it, But the exchange was really easy and the new microphone did cost like 10 euros. I seriously hope that Sony will bring marshmallow for it.

I have been using my ZL for almost 2 years and a half. I had my first battery replaced by Loxley Thailand (a Sony repair distributor in Thailand) after 15 months. They spent exactly 14 working days. I personally was really impressed since Sony's after-sale services in Thailand has discredited it's face for some reasons. By the way, my current battery has perfectly worked for 13 months. I'm planning to have a new battery replaced by the same distributor once it is dead. I love this phone a lot (due to my personal purpose of use). Unfortunately, I've heard that ZL has no longer been supported in terms of a newer firmware. However, I'm planning to use it unless it is lost or stolen.

Me too had same problem and sony refused to repair same.they said its a board issue and the whole board has to be replaced or I can buy a new zl at reduced price of 15000.This is pure cheating. I took phone to a local repair guy and got the battery replace for 1000rs and it works fine. Bt disappointed with sony service. No more sony in life

Sony makes the best smartphones. My first smartphone was the Xperia SP. I sold it and got myself the Xperia ZR because of the Kitkat upgrade. Along the way I got to test out my friends Galaxy S4, Note 3. Great devices but wasn't as easy to do simple things I did with my SP & ZR. In July I sold my ZR and got myself the Xperia ZL (red). It's a beautiful looking device. I encountered that similar shutting down problem as other reviews stated but it was a quick fix. Ordered a battery for less than $US 12 and had it replaced. Phone works great again. This phone is almost 3 years old and has the same screen to body ratio as the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge Plus. I've outgrown the screen size already and looking into buying the Xperia C5 Ultra. Right now screen to body ratio plays a vital role in my future purchasing of phones. Sony and other smartphones companies should incorporate that smaller bezel feature in their upcoming smartphones. At this stage in the industry the standard of screen to body ratio on phones should be at least 75%. More screen, less phone. No sense buying a phone that don't look good. This Xperia ZL is not repairable ones battery is dead , as per Sony care at Lucknow. Not Repairable is their version in writing. My mobile Zl C6502 was active only for one & half year.They offered me to buy back this costly mobile on 20% mobile value. I was offered to buy Sony Xperia Z1 on Rs.22500 payment basis.This is cheating with customer. One more thing -- Sony has stopped making this mobile then why ZL C6502 is being sold. So don't buy Sony Mobiles especially those who don't have replaceable battery. I am surprised why company has not colled back these mobiles.

Just buy it online and replace it yourself, it's pretty easy. Using since May 2013 without any issues, change OS to Cyanogenmod if you want your device performing at its best.

Same battery issue.. I remember, i switched camera pixels from 9 to 13mp.. Recorded some videos, and while watching these video, phone directly switched odd, i restarted again and saw the battery usage. The battery was direct fell down to 0% .. Strange. After that my phone was working on power only, I took the device to the service center and they told me that this phone will not be repaired, company will give the replacement offer, while for the new replacement phone i have to pay 20 to 30% money of the new phone may be they will just reduce the 20% 30% from new replaced phone and i have to pay remaining. Service center also not sure which phone i will get and how much i have to pay... I phone was is 2 years old,but before 1 year only i had got the replaced phone as mic was not working. So it should be 1 year old. I have not even dropped that phone This is giving too much mental stress.. As i bought this phone keeping the brand name mind.

Hey folks, just wanted to concur with anyone who has had the "sudden death" event with the ZL. This is the SECOND ZL I have had in 2 years, and it just suffered the same fate as my first ZL. Both phones inexplicably over-heated during the use of an everyday, seemingly harmless app, and subsequently powered off. In my case yesterday, it was during my use of Google Maps in the satellite view, and it had about 40% battery left. Upon attempting to turn the phone back on, it reported the battery was fully discharged, and would only turn on when plugged into the charger. When turned on, it had to "optimize" a long list of android apps - each time - such that every start up took at least 5 - 10 minutes, which is extremely annoying since the phone would either immediately shut down upon disconnecting the charger (regardless of the charge status) or as soon as I tried to send an SMS or make a phone call without the charger connected. This exact situation happened last time as well. To me this appears to be an issue with the internal battery. I have noticed excessive heat from my ZL in the past, and have always wondered if this was a typical occurrence with smartphones or if it was just a ZL thing. I would consider myself a smartphone "power user" although I don't play games or anything, just use my phone for messages, work emails, the internet, watching videos and social media. At any rate, I've sadly moved on from my beloved ZL. RIP!

wow, it has been a while i saw many people with the same battery issue. i recommend all of you to check official sony forums: xperia Z and ZL had a sudden death issue when they first came out, sony replaced some of the shipments, then some ZL had an IR issue, so sony started replacing those, after a while reports of sudden death or battery issues stopped, i thought this was no longer an issue, even some ZR shipments seem to have had such issues. it is seen by many that sony used a new battery design on this first batch and it wasn't a very good choice. now, think that most electronics have a 1 year warranty for a reason, usually after the year some components "wear out" and is cheaper to replace the complete device, since devices stop being manufactured a company would need to give you a brand new model which would be very expensive for most companies i have had my ZL since it came out and is still working, in the old manual it says that we should keep the battery charged and that will help improve the battery life, there was a rumor stating that keeping the battery charged would damage it, but it does not, most LI-ION batteries will remain in good shape for a long period of time, however "On average, lifetimes consist of 1000 cycles" that is recharging them 1000 times so if your keep "refreshing" your battery it will die sooner, i still have a 2010 xperia x10 mini, and works pretty well for such an old device. always keep your phone cool, heat will affect internal stuff and battery always charge your phone when is cool, charging when hot will affect the battery do a phone reboot or "turn off-turn on" at least once a week, this will help "refresh" the RAM-memory and allow the phone to work better thus lowering the "push" on the battery please do post your issues on the sony forums, even if they cant help you, your complain will help all sony users who still have warranty. on side note, -just tested the IR with the 5.1.1 update, works very nice, i feel like it has more range now, but that's just me, and yes, it is learning codes -keep the "file commander" app since is able to copy/delete/paste/rename data on the internal storage and SD-card, have tried different apps and they all seem to be "blocked" by the 5.1.1 storage policy -use the "move to SD card" option before using apps for the first time, what i do is install app, or apps, DO NOT use/open them, close all applications and reboot phone, go to settings>apps and move them to SD-card, again close all applications, reboot phone again, and now i use them, i know is a little bit annoying and sort of "obsessive" but i have had NO issues with my ZL and x10mini so far.

My Sony ZL was dead cant boot up. when i press the power button there bibrate then the screen only show SONY and XPERIA then off again. black screen. this happened when i tried to use the phone when the battery 40% then suddenly switch off itself, i thought the battery totaly flat but when i charge till full then turn on its ok for while but when i disconnect the power cable it switch off itself, not sure if battery problem or hardware problem. back - Battery? cant tell much, but i feel it lasts longer i recommend that you back up your data and do a factory reset for a clean update install - Responsiveness? as stated before, it works faster -Loudness? ok here we have an issue media playback (videos, music, etc) plays even louder than with JB (jelly bean), however the ringtone and notifications are lower, you can change settings, go to sound>>audio settings>> disable "Clear audio+" enable "Dynamic normalizer" tap "sound effects" here you have two options, equalizer and headphone settings. for equalizer go all the way up on everything and for headphone go "surround sound (VPT) "concert hall" this should slightly increase the volume or you can get an app called "Hearing Saver" it is free and will allow you to set the volume at max on everything, it is pretty useful for when you connect headphones and want to keep the same HIGH volume (remember to be careful) -Connectivity? basic: 3g/HDSPA/ airplane to normal mode, excellent, pretty fast and stable GPS: it feels the same Bluetooth/wi-fi/NFC: feels faster, way faster speaker/ext: better sound quality so far - How about the LED notification light? is it functioning properly? yes it is camera works just as well, depending on the mode you can get less noise or more on dark pictures, but it feels faster here. on a side note, to everyone who updates, if you have an app that doesn't work after you update, contact the developer and wait for an update, it is an issue with the 5.1.1 storage policy which is different from the kitkat and past lollipop

ok i refused to update to kitkat since i read about the SD-card issue (no access to 3rd party apps), so i kept the good old jellybean, however 3 days ago it started acting weird, almost corrupted SD-card and was having issues when connecting to PC, so i did a factory reset (sadly lost everything, but there was no way for me to save it anyways), after this, used flashtool to install 5.1.1 (10.7.A.0.222), phone got updated and worked awesome, since i don't trust much on these roms, i updated sony companion and plugged phone, it recognized it and said everything was alright, however i chose to "repair my phone" and re-installed everything to factory state. ok since then, the phone is working great, fast, and all good, if you are a "generic" user, you will love and enjoy this update, so far so good. however, if you are a "power" or "advanced" user, you will find some issues (since i jumped straight from jelly bean i can only compare JB, and current 5.1.1). due to google change in storage policy: some apps wont be able to detect the SD-card, some other will detect it, but wont save anything there, this means they will use internal storage. some apps will recognize the SD-card let you chose folder to save data, but wont use it, saving to a default folder (in the sd-card) instead. this means that apps like "maverick GPS" and "Backcountry navigator(BCNAV)" will have issues, i have managed to make BCNAV work and recognize old stored maps, but somehow it messes the waypoints and location data, rendering the applications useless internet browsing (dolphin browser, boat, and CM) (sorry i rarely "never" use chrome or default browser) not much to say, i never had any issues with JB, and 5.1.1 works just as well, i still browse a lot of FLASH player enabled sites, and they all work fine, so far it works pretty much the same games so far only tested real racing and angry birds star wars. they both work better, smoother and faster, more responsive and phone remains cooler for a longer period of time emulators so far only tested epsxe(ps1), retroarch (nes, snes, genesis, gg, doom, ps1), ppsspp(psp) just awesome, some games that had issues on JB now seem to run faster (GT2 for ps1, the 3rd birthday for psp), phone remains cool for longer time there is also a neat feature to move apps to SD-card, it wont move completely the app data, but it will help you save a lot of storage, however if you have a slow SD-card it will make your phone slower when loading/opening apps, and restarting. also noted a "restart phone" option, however also noted that once u restart the phone, and tap the "square button" it will show the "recent apps" that you had opened before rebooting, this also happens when you turn off and on the phone, it keeps those apps there, so be sure to clear that list before rebooting to make sure you refresh the ram. i will try some other emulators and settings later on, for the time being the thing seems to work fine, but i got really annoyed by the "loss" of maverick and BCNAV since i use those a lot.

Just fews days after writing my views on the update, my phone also had the same "sudden death problem" and it became bricked. Sony service centre in India refused to repair the phone by saying: "they don't have spare parts for this handset". Surprised to see such a big company, doesn't providing service. Got my phone fixed from a local technician, it cost me $100 bucks and still I'm having the same problem. This issue has been reported by Sony Xperia ZL users all over the world. Apparently, Sony used cheap hardware parts in the phone. We all should sue Sony for wasting $600 for everyone

Myself and my friend faced the exact same problem with the ZL. Sadly there is no easy way out here, as it is a hardware issue, mine was under warranty and Sony replaced it in a week but that was in 2014, where the phone was still in production. As of now, you've got to give up the phone to Sony service center and on top of it pay few $$$ to get a Z series phone which is still in production.

How is it that your's works so wonderfully, yet a lot of our's are dying - dropping like flies? I've taken extremely good care of my phone, but since upgrading it in the middle of August (I assume to Lollipop?) It got into a "boot loop" for which I did the software reset thing suggested, which allowed it to last while plugged in, but eventually (after 2 weeks) it flashed "sony", off, "sony" off and is now in eternal slumber - but for the random 3-red LED flashes when I hold down vol and power. I'm extremely disappointed as I've only had the phone for a year and a half and somehow this is my problem that I have to fix. It's a $600 phone. This is not my problem. I'm extremely envious that yours works wonderfully and mine has slipped violently into eternal sleep. Sony: WTH?

My Xperia ZL repeatedly shutdown too. But it would remain on only if I kept it charging. If I took it off the charger it would immediately shutdown. Sent it to the service centre here in Manila and they said it was a battery problem. I had the battery replaced after their diagnosis. Just upgraded my ZL C6502 to 5.1.1 here in India. Everything seems to be working exceptionally well, touch wood. There ain't any battery drain. In the changelog front there is not much to differ it from 5.0 Lollipop, except for the Wifi and Bluetooth quick toggles, which now clicking on the label opens the available networks and devices in notification tray itself. And few cool animations here and there. Overall a polished upgrade. But do upgrade using PC companion only, it never gave a buggy upgrade to me (even 5.0 was having zero reported bugs).

Dear all ZL owners, there is only one issue (quite normal one) that is the battery with this phone. I have ordered on amazon.com and replaced it myself (you can find the youtube video showing how to replace) after using it for almost two years without any issues (mic issue is there though...). My previous phone was Sony Ericcson K800i which I used for almost 7 years!!! without issues. So my conclusion is SONY is always the best and trustworthy brand.

Well, i did. I had support from sony in Canada. I went to their canadian website (chat) and got support for repair. I just had to send my phone to a repair centre and it took less than 12 open days to received it back.

Since then, it is working fine. At first i had problem with the battery. It couldn't last long (4-6 hours). Since then i have change many setting and everything is normal now. Don't listen to stupid ideas of giving up on your phone (unless you really wanna change your phone). Xperia ZL is still a great phone, except for the internal speaker sound while in call. Which, btw, Sony acknowledged and said to repair in the next update. So hang on in there. And meanwhile, change your battery. Cheers.

Got Lollipop 5.0.2 on C6506 Movistar version on July 10th, 2015. Installed, ran into issue with Google Play Service, had to manually remove Google Play Service update from Apps, then reinstall it from Google Play to get rid of all the warnings on "need to update Google Play Services." Once that was done, and after reboots, it seems to be more responsive than before, happy with the update so far!

According to sony, they changed the battery and the camera (colors issues)... I have received my phone this week... It is now working fine but can't make a full day without charging the battery... I'd say, a full charged battery last only for about 3-5 hours... The battery drains so fast...I have checked all the setting related to power... Before with Jelly bean i could last a full day without charging the battery My only regrets toward this phone... I shouldn't have upgraded it to lollipop... I should have stayed with Jelly bean... I had the same problem. Most of ZL users actually are facing this problem. What happening is that when a phone updates it uses a lot of RAM and battery. After two years a battery wears out a lot. Sudden discharging of the battery made it to heat up and thus the battery went dead. I changed the battery. No, didn't do it myself. But now it's working just fine. Sony, first thanks for providing the Lollipop update for ZL. I love the update, however, I would like report some major issues: 1. Speaker volume is now too low (this needs fix ASAP). 2. Led notification light is not working with Gallery app. Earlier it used to change colors according to the color of the image. This was a nice and unique feature of this phone and now it's gone, please bring it back. 3. Earlier, when we long press an app in task-switching menu, we used to get "App Info" button , through which we can directly go the settings of that app. Now it doesn't work. I'm not sure that this feature is missing in Official Lollipop or not. If possible please bring back this feature. Those were the only major issue I had with lollipop. Battery backup, call performance, camera image quality remained same. What I loved about the new update: 1. My phone is super smooth again. So fluid. Amazing. 2. Material design looks awesome. Task switcher, notification panel everything is looking nice. 3. Inbuilt torch option 4. Guest mode is nice too, even though it uses up some extra storage

i got the same problem with my xperia zl, when i install the lollipop after a day using it my xperia phone shutdown automatically even though the battery is not yet empty and i need to connect my charger to open it and when i remove the charger it will turn shutdown again...

Hi praveen, Even I have started facing same problem as yours after the lollipop update. Phone shuts down automatically. Phone gets heated upto 53 Degrees, Battery showing 10% then suddenly Jumps to 80 %. Phone getting Restart again and again. Speaker Quality has detoriated. Jellybean and Kitkat were the best OS for our ZL.. Have to use my cellphone with Charger On.. Without charging it's getting Hanged..

This is an awesome phone. But seems it has got issues with battery. I used the phone more than 1.5 yrs and now it started acting weird. Issues with battery after connecting the power bank. Now after the latest update 5.0 the phone turned off and not powering on. Service Centre told this phone is discontinued and they won't service. But they can give offer for another Sony Xperia Phone where I will have to give this phone and pay extra.... So disappointing..

hi.i was using sony xperia ZL from last 1.5 years and it was working fine.last week i updated it to lollypop through pc companion,and to my biggest of horrors,the phone stopped working.I went to sony service centre,they said they cannot repair it,they can only swap it with another refurbished ZL model after charging me 10,000 rupees.Phone doesn't get on,doesn't charge also.Whenever i try to switch it on,it just tries to start but cant.Now its just like a dead body.I will have to buy a new phone now,without a fault of mine.Horrible service support by sony.Will never buy sony again.

We don't have Sony dealers in our country. The Sony phones we buy here are brought by electronic shops (phone shops). So I really don't know whether or how much Sony actually supports ZL. But in our country we get the spare parts easily, from the same shops who sell phones. I went to one such shop from where I bought my ZL & asked them to replace the battery. It cost me 2,500 BDT (around 32 USD) to replace it. You may try local shops for the battery. Ciao...

I like the upgrade. It's good. The messaging app, smoothness and many more. The only problem I notice is the charging when my phone is on is different from previous Android version. It is heating so fast. And it was so long to full charge the batt. Then also, my phone is blacking out when I play games. Before, it's not happening. Please fix this. Thank you. Hi, i have been using this phone for nearly 2 years now. I have recently upgraded my OS To Lollipop and i am really disappointed with the performance of the phone. The update has definitely improved the UI but when i look at the performance, there is lot to work on. As a usual problem, the battery life has degraded drastically. Apart from this, we now have issues with the speakers as well. The volume of the speakers is barely audible. At times you can experience a lag in the phone response. Google services eating up the entire performance is another task that needs to be taken care of. I am expecting a quick fix for these issues Since it is really hard to bear a phone with low performance and low Battery life.

Got lollipop update for my Sony Xperia ZL 3 days back. Did a factory reset after updating it to lollipop. User interface is very smooth and the added option to move apps to SD card which i have been waiting for pleased me.Nice drop down menu with lots of functions,Guest mode.Overall the update is very good. Thank you Sony for that. Only problem is battery takes a lot of time to charge and battery reaches a temperature above 53 degrees centigrade while charging and for your kind information batteries reaching that temperatures would blast at any time. I use the GSAM battery monitior app to monitor my batteries temperature and when i was using previous versions of andriod my batteries temperature never crossed 44 degrees. Its been one and half year that i bought my phone and i never faced this kind of battery heating problem. Its a clear indication that the heating is caused by the lollipop update. Only solution i found out was to switch off my phone and charge it.Then the charging takes place normally and the battery dosent get overheated and takes not more than an hour to charge. But i cant switch off my phone everytime to charge because i would miss important calls and messages. I request sony to quickly rectify this problem of overheating battery during charge and the time it is taking to charge and also to rectify the problems faced by other users. I said quickly because issues regarding battery and especially overheating should not be delayed. Waiting for an update on this soon... The rest of the update is absolutely fine. Thank you sony.

Pls check if your phone stays on or not. When I updated my ZL a week ago it started behaving somewhat similar. Then it turned out that I needed to change the battery. Check whether your phone turns on with the charger plugged in. If so, then it's battery problem. If not, then you may need to "flash" (root level factory reset, done by experts) your phone. After changing the battery my phone is running perfectly with Android 5.0.2. Wish you all the best. Ciao...

I googled about my problem I mentioned earlier. Apparently it was due to damaged battery. I changed the battery and my phone is working perfectly. As a matter of fact, I'm typing this message in my ZL. The Lollipop update takes a lot of charge and the old battery of 2 years was unable to support it. Now, about experience. I think it's kinda mixed bag situation. I like the fact that apps can now (again) be installed in the memory card, but dislike the drop down notification bar as I have to choose 12 out of 15 shortcuts (can't choose all). The look and feel varies person to person. I like it. My phone charges faster and drains slower now. A few apps doesn't work anymore, maybe they need some upgrade as well. Bottom line is I am happy with it, specially with the camera (I take lots of picture with my ZL). One more thing, no matter what Android phone you're using, no matter which version you're upgrading into, after the upgrade please do a factory restore. I've noticed that doing it simply boosts your phone's performance significantly. You can avoid this step, but you'll see problems like longer time to charge, quick battery drain, RAM filled up etc. Wish you all the best. Ciao...

I know it because we don't have SONY dealer over here and shop owner's bring various models (along with copy models) for sale. I checked the IMEI number of the phone before buying it and it matched in Euroe region in your webpage. Now please tell me whether you started rolling the 5.0.2 Lolipop update in Europe or not. Again, I checked with my problem in YouTube and it happens to be the problem of the battery drained up. It keeps turned on as long as it is connected to the power source. Did anyone update your ZL to Android Lolipop? Did you face any problem? Last night I got the message that my phone will download new update to 5.0.2 and I accepted. After the download it said unable to install, try again. The second time it said the same thing. Then I did a factory reset and then tried to download. After downloading this time it started updating the phone. Finally when it was "updating applications 263 of 270", it suddenly turned off. I tried to turn it on, but it went off again. So I put it in the charger and it showed 91% when turned on. But since then it started to turn of within 5 minutes. I took off the SIM & memory card before the factory reset and didn't put it on till now. Yet, after putting them back it didn't start. Can anyone help me out? It's such a nice phone that I can't make my mind to throw it away. I'm from Bangladesh, Asia. Can anyone help me out with the issue? Thanks in advance. Ciao...

Have a brazilian version (ZQ). The phone is amazing! Nice specs, nice performance. No problems for me. The only issue is battery, doesn't follow the Sony standard definitions, cause drains too fast in 4G connection. 10hs per day and that's it. Gaming drains faster, but I can't play everytime. Waiting for Lollipop. Common, Sony!! Help us!!

Mine is the ZQ version (the Brazilian version of ZL). After one year and a half of daily use, even on my 3 years old child, it never crashed or misbehaved significantly. After having a Samsung S3 before this one, I feel relifed because the S3 was a headache to me. Excellent mobile and my next one will be Sony again, no doubt about it.

Avoid buying Sony from carriers. This Rogers ZL is bootloader locked, a pig on batteries and have replaced two off warranty. If you are having the boot only with charger or new code battery life issues change the battery yourself. Can't wait for Kitkat to Lollipop upgrade and yet another battery replacement as a result... After three decades as a Sony gal I call it quits. Sorry Sony, your mobile division has driven me to Korea.

The only weakness of this phone is battery and it's not waterproof. Also the Sony service Center is suck.. I have use it for 18 months, and when I used it for 11months i have battery issue and Sony replace it with new one.it took 2months to change my battery!!

Yes thats true the phone does have battery problem which can only b replaced with a new one in order for your phone to work otherwise the phone is awesome. For all those facing battery problem relax and calm down. What u need to do is order a battry from aliexpress.com ... with battery they will also send you free tools to fix any phone and it only cost you about $15. It does take 30 to 40 days to get delivered but the battery is batter than the orignal one in the phone. You can watch tutorials from youtube and can easily change your battery your self. I had the same problem and i got it fixed my self the same way... its been 4 months since then and my phone is working perfectly fine and i love this phone... but yeah sony need to improve their service center and yeah also their engineers and try to make trouble-less

Same problem here. I am from Pune too. Please let me know if you get to repair the phone locally. You can order battery online from alibaba.com, it would take some time and then there is painful replacement that you will need to make yourself. Still I think its ok to replace instead of throwing away the phone. This is design flaw. They should atleast provide replacement battery and charged repair service for such expensive device. Sony is useless, shameless and I am not going to buy ANY SONY again.

Exactly same problem here. From Pune, India. Phone works only when connected to charger. Else it switches off on SONY logo or bootloops. Sony is refusing to repair(its out of warranty) the phone and says that it can only be replaced. I wasted 26000 rs for this useless junk device which lasted only for 14 months. To all ZL users, please get your phone replaced if you are approaching the end of warranty. I feel that this battery problem would occur at some point of time. Fro affected users, you can open the battery and connect -ve terminal(refer xda-developer Xperia ZL threads) or buy new battery.

Xperia ZL is a very nice smartphone and has a durable long lasting battery. I have been using it for last 20 months. The battery still have the same performance as the time it was brought. Still it gives 7 hours continuous browsing/operating which I did last night. It is smooth and sony gives time to time updates.yet it does not hang fot a single time though runs the multiple apps. Happy to have this phone.

Facing almost the same problem. Phone restarts continously untill the battery drains out. If i charge it again and keep it switched off for 2 or 3 weeks, it'll work for about 2 days. Went to a local Sony service centre where they said that Xperia 'Z Series' phones can only be replaced and not repaired (which no one ever mentioned while buying). And since my warranty period got over a month ago, i'd have to pay 80% of the phone price for replacement. Very disappointed with Sony service.

again and again i am saying this after 1 year and 3 months with the ZL this mobile has no battery issue , i faced the battery darning issue 3 times: 1- when i had an old SD card class 2 and to many songs on it some files has been corrupted and the mobile is trying to index the files which make it daring the battery,removing the SD solved the problem. 2- when i updated the mobile with jelly bean 4.1.3 and has been fixed with hot fix from Sony. 3- i installed custom theme it wok just fine on the beginning but after a while the mobile become slow and there was lags i tried clean up junk files and run clean mater program with no successes then i discover by change that the theme the problem after changing it the mobile become more faster and the batter last much longer. i am using now 4.4 jelly bean and it wok perfectly maybe some guys is charging the mobile with another charger this may destroy the mobile battery and the charging circuit.

I had the same problem with my Xperia Pro (others also on Mini Pro, Arc, etc.) but with removable battery it's easy to solve this problem. I took out the battery, pressed power button for 30sec/1min, put it back and phone has started charging. Second time I done the same procedure and charged battery on universal charger, but I doubt it's feasible to do with integrated battery.

So i given to the service center in coimbatore. they told if its is a software problem we will repair it in 2 days. if it is hardware it will take 15 days. i told it is ok. yesterday i checked with the service center they told it is hardware problem. it cant be serviced. it can be replaced by new phone of 80% of cost. or else it will cost 50% of the phone for servicing i got highly disappointed with that service center replay. Sony phone will work for only 1 year. after that i should through the phone.i am biggest fan of Sony product. i will never buy the sony product. Just For using 1 year i paid 30,000. i am going to give the phone outside for service. it is really true.

Xperia ZL is a nice mobile phone, but for those who need 4G LTE must aware that there are two types of ZL, the cheaper one only for 3G, the other one which is a little bit expensive supports 4G LTE. I am really disappointed that no one from the showroom told me that, after a few months having the ZL, I have just realized that mine doesn't support 4G LTE.

Hello I Cannot belive thasony can make fool to its custmers. Same thing had happened with me . My Sony xperia ZL was not getting turned on. When i visited to Sony service center they told that this cell cannot be opened & repaired anywhere. It was out of warranty. they suggested me for replacement by paying 80% value for new set. I got disappointed. paying 30000 for a Sony mobile & getting this kind of replies from sony it was disgusting. I went to out side mobile repaire shop were they said that this cell have a common circuit short problem. By paying just 200/- it got fine. Please do not belive sony

my opinion about this phone is as follows. 4 months after buying my phone brand new it started to heat up and after about a month of it heating up and losing its charge really fast my circuit board will try. I add mediately fell in love with this phone and I like it very very much. When my circuit board ride I was able to send it off to get fixed because I was under warranty. Now that I have my phone back they updated it they change my battery they fix the circuit board and its been working perfectly fine for the past 5 months, now recently it's starting to heat up again so what I do is just turn my phone off after using it or about 10 15 minutes straight because I don't want to fry it again. Even though I love the Sony phone I will never buy another Sony phone is because of this problem because I don't have $800 to flush down the toilet.

I bought my phone and 4 months later I had this problem it's Friday my circuit board. Good thing my phone was under warranty because I was able to send it in and get it fixed completely. Now that I have had my phone for another 6 month the problem is starting to reoccur. I am not satisfied with this because it's not cheap to buy a smartphone even though I love this phone but I will never buy another Sony phone again because of this experience and I'm not sure if it's going to fry my circuit board again hopefully not. If you feel your phone heating up my advice is to turn it off and leave it until your phone cool down because if you don't you're going to fry it.

I had my phone with Sony service. They changed display and there was a screen protector on it. it was damaged later and when I wanted to peel it off it was so sticky which i think was the original film comes from sony. I took it out and logo was still there

Updated to 4.4.4 from 4.4.2 today. Now my microphone is having issues. I can hear the calling party but no one can hear me. Tried changing settings under call settings and sound but no improvement. Come ON SONY! My past experience with Kit Kat updates has been very bad. Should have stuck to 4.2. Had no issues at all.

Got the battery replaced.The phone works completely fine.I accidentally broke the power flex cable while replacing the battery,so the power button doesn't work now,but it's a mistake on my part.So started the phone using the yellow reset switch and downloaded an app which uses the volume key as the power key.You can get the battery replacement tutorial on (https://www.ifixit.com/Guide/Sony+Xperia+ZL+Bat­tery+Replacement/28802).Sony is awesome,but i guess i'm still through with it. I had this issue - I tried everything to fix it - the only solution is to replace the battery - not such a big deal - took me about 20 mins. It's tedious but there are good tutorials out there.

I've been using Sony since i was a kid.I started out with w200i.I currently own the xperia zl which i bought last oct.I've been facing problems with my phone since last week.The phone initially started switching off when I started using any application.The problem further went on increasing and the phone started switching off when I unlocked my phone.Now the problem has increased to such an extent that my phone won't start.The Sony logo at the start-up gets displayed and the phone switches off.After quite a lot of googling and research I came to know that there's a problem with my phone's battery.I then decided to change the battery of my ZL.But the people in Sony service center said that they won't be opening the phone as they didn't have the proper tools(It can be opened with the help of a screw driver and a pair of pliers,but I don't know what their problem was)(my warranty ended on the 5th of Oct,but the warranty doesn't matter). I was given an option of replacing the phone with a refurbished model.(Which I don't think any owner would be okay with). So I obviously denied and started checking out other mobile repairing shops and other dealers.Btw,Sony service center doesn't even sell the battery separately,they say the phone cannot be opened and they can't help it.I live in Pune city and I checked the regular mobile repairers and dealers and got to know that Xperia ZL's battery (LIS1501ERPC) is not available even with a single dealer/repairer.They say the same thing Sony service center said.(phone cannot be opened blah blah...)So i have finally decided to buy a battery online and fix the problem myself.Hopefully It'll work.I have used W200i,W580i,J20i(Hazel)[had a display problem],Xperia X8,Xperia SL[stolen,sadly],and Xperia ZL(the same one) and am through with Sony. So I hope this review helps you. I really liked Sony a lot but this is the harsh reality.

Since I use swipe screen lock, it's very easily to be unlocked in my pocket.Usually I found this happen when I could feel the heat from my phone. When plugged to a charger it will start, when removed will work fr 2min n go off again.. when try to start only Sony logo comes n phone goes off :( :'( ... Just updated to 4.4.4 and things got a better. Battery now lasts longer compared to the 4.4.2. 30%-40% better. Settings lag is gone. Apps load faster. Enjoy your update guys!

i made the worst decision. iphone 5 at that time vs experia zl. i selected experial zl over iphone. but then in less than a year my experia had so many problems. battery, freezing and many more its a nightmare. ever purchased extended warranty. the service station took 2 months for diagnosis plus they let me pay for the battery.

Dude Your brain is dead for sure :P. I has the warranty card and shit but the service center people insisted on the Sony Centre Invoice with IMEI. However here is some interesting update: They called be after 10 dayand say the mother board is gone and it will take 4 days to get a new one. Then after 10 more days(which is today), I called them up to ask if they had fixed my phone. The girl said we will call you back tomorrow. I insisted them to give me an update right then, the girl kept me on hold for 10 minutes and then said you will get a Xperia Z and Sony will call me tomorrow regarding this. I just hope they dont ask me for extra money. I already bought this ZL on my credit card and am still paying my dues while the phone is sitting in a service center and I am using my nokia 1100. Lets see what happens tomorrow.Till then Peace!!

I've been having KitKat concerns like everyone else. The phone simply isn't as smooth, especially in the text messaging service. We're on a family plan with unlimited text, but the delay in first launching the ZL's native Messaging service, opening an existing thread, waiting to be able to type, and then waiting for the message to send, is just horrid. My wife's Moto X is instant in all of the above. What about the 4.4 update caused SMS to crawl?

There are some problems in sony mobiles like... The camera has got some black spots, microphone problem when you are talking in call people on the other end can't hear you, heating problem the gets heated up soon, charge doesn't last long,.. And one more it creates some blur photos from itself to the album

On Android 4.3 it was good,now on 4.4.2 it`s OK,but my phone is rooted and greenify app is installed on it,because after latest update battery life went down... Now I wait for 4.4.4(it`s in testing phase) and I hope that battery drain and some lags will be fixed.Battery still last the whole day if you are a normal user,but if you play a lot of hevy games, then you can expect about 2.5h-3h of screen-on time

After 2 days later i called them, they said my ZL's battery had to be replaced, and the cost is $40. Yeahhhh i had to paid that cost, because the warranty period had been discharged after August 1st 2014. And its ridiculous, my ZL broke right after the warranty cant Acceptable!! Now my ZL has returned, thank God it didnt take a long time. Oiya, fyi this is my SECOND time the battery had to be replaced! It was happened 8 months ago!! When I bought this phone in early 2013 - it was a great device. Beautiful looks, blazingly fast, crystal clear display, great battery life and very stable. I thought Sony had finally got its game together regarding smartphones. And then they rolled out Kitkat on this phone(4.4.2). An absolute unmitigated disaster. Battery life has plummeted to 3hrs, the phone shut-downs and restarts at will. If it doesn't feel in the mood for google-hangouts- shutdown. Want directions to Bear mountain - shut down. Want to call your parents - sorry - shutdown. And the over-heating ! On so many occasions I have had to take it out of my pocket and put it in the fridge to avoid scalding. The only way I am able to use this device is by re-installing the OS using PC companion on a bi-weekly basis and starting from scratch. Basically, this is how I spend most of my Saturday mornings. Now, I understand that bugs happen. But the awful part of this whole thing has Sony Support's attitude to this. Basically boils down to "Yeah, we know the system is buggy. Now, suck it up buster and stop whining". At least do me the courtesy of rolling back to the older factory installed Android ... and doing it in a reasonable time frame without expecting me to part with my $600 phone for 3 weeks. Or give me a loaner phone while this one is the shop. It is unacceptable that I need to buy another phone while Sony fiddles around fixing their mistake. It is this irresponsible attitude and fecklessness that has convinced me to never buy Sony again.

Xperia ZL has definitely battery problems, mine died after 8 months quite violently, battery swelled and destroyed whole device, I got new one from Sony. After 6 weeks battery started to die even it was on 90% charged, then it was worsening, in few days ending with mobile not working even on charger, just restarting... I sent it for repair, I got same mobile back with changed battery and it is working for now. Last repair is giving me hope, that next time battery dies I will just buy new one and replace by myself. It's pity that such nice mobile is hampered by such problems.

I bought the phone on Jan,14, and loved each and everything about it, the gorgeous screen, the slim bezzels, it was a head turner for sure, but just after SIX months it suddenly died. Then it would only turn on when charging, as soon as you remove the plug, it would turn off. I took it to the service center where they made me wait for an hour only to say my invoice was incorrect as it had no IMEI no. on it. I went back to the SONY Centre give them ashout, got new invoice ... now I am back to using my NOKIA 1100 as I am typing this. Makes me think that its been 11 years i am using this phone, and my 26000 INR xperia Z gets dead in 6 months. Where is the smartphone world going? or is it just sony?

I HAVE SONY ZL PROBLEMS, 3 TIMES IN A YEAR!!! come on... My ZL is 12 years old now. first, A month after i bought zl, i have shocked, my phone suddenly dead!! ( Yeah I've been written bout that in this forum, just check it guys) So i went service center in Bandung Indonesia. they said there's an issue with the battery. about a month my ZL got service. after i got my ZL back, there was another crack. there's a black spot on my camera! its like stuck on my camera's lens. so i go to sony service center again to complained bout that. and now, after about a year, my ZL Get me shock again!! its start on yesterday afternoon. after i took a picture with my ZL and i wanna review the picture, but it's suddenly off!!! the screen going black and shutoff! and its not because my battery was low power, its 70%!!! so how come my phone dead?!?!?? then i try to charge it (like what i do now with the phone). when charged, my ZL can run properly, BESIDE i cant open the album menu, i cant open bbm application, i cant open and connect to Facebook application, there several things that i get know cant work properly!!! when i unplug the charger, my ZL goes down, dead!! its cant power on although the battery power is 100%!! is my zl battery serviced with recondition battery'?!?!!! today im gonna check and shout (maybe with anger) complains my ZL issues!!! its so ridiculous, Sony ZL is premium phone with high price! but why its easly broken?! i have android phone with low specs and low price, it's about a quarter of ZL's price. but till now, its been 2 years, nothing happen, its still work properly!! its hurt me much, i cant believe it's happened again with my zl!!! oiya, Sony has BAD after sales product by the way!!!

My ZL is 10 months old. I have the same problem as you. But only the top part of the plastic dropped off. I threw that away since it can't be fixed. When that plastic strap drops off, you will see shiny purple patches along the metal frame of the phone.

I am using this phone since last one year and there is not even a single issue when i purchased this cell it has 4.2 after that i updated it to 4.2.2 then 4.3 and finally now on kitkat 4.4. After kitkat this cell become more awesome. All features are outstanding. I am a music freak and this is a best cell to deal with ur music frequencies :-). battrey timing is flawless. I use 3g which always stay active on my cell and easily i spent my whole day with a single charge and charge it when i go to sleep. Overall i have no issue with my phone. Xperia ZL is a best choice for me. Hats off for sony to release 5 inches dream cell for me.

A lot of my phone functions went bizzare after upgrading to aandriod 4.4 kitkat. I lost the camera function. The sony head phone that came with it doesn't work anymore. Just updated my 1 year ZL to Kitkat (US version) , rooted the phone and have total contol of its settings. All I can say is, everything looks good. I changed my old problematic battery to a new one, wipe everything after update, delete any battery stats, charged it to 100%, let it discharged to 0,and fully charged it again, the battery lasts 1.5 days on normal use. I use microcpu monitor to monitor cpu activities and when it's idle, it uses less cpu power at its lowest clock speed. So, no heat issue. I believe my LG G2 F320K gets jealous with my ZL's new UI look :)

reinstall everything, for this you can, "factory reset" or use sony pc software, and "repair", it should reinstall the android, and you will have to reinstall everything, once your phone is ready to boot, set your accounts and all, but DISABLE the syncing options, so it doesn't keep syncing. the problem you mention can only happen when you have installed apps that sync continuously, it can also happen when using MHL, to stream video on a TV or something like that, so as you don't really know what is draining your battery, the best thing to do is reinstall everything

I have a SONY Xperia ZL,that has 2 issues: 1. whenever I re-charge it,the charging frequently stops without completing,& the message says "battery charging stops because of using the power more than re-charging" but whenever I check my mobile I always find that there are no more applications open and the display lights is almost off. 2. The battery is overheating more than the usual, I am afraid it may blast while charging, even if I have remove it from the charger, i would not be able to use the mobile unit for about 10 to 15 minutes , because it is very hot and may burn my face,also I cannot even kept it inside my pants pocket i am wearing because of so much heat. Please advise if it is repairable, because I went to SONY Barrak Company in Kuwait, they said it is normal and they dont even wanted to check it. I just bought the unit in CARREFOUR last 6-Jul-14, I went to CARREFOUR and complain about it on 14, but they told me to go to SONY repairshop,when I went to SONY barrak repairshop someone just look and said it is normal,when I went back to CARREFOUR on 20-Jul-14,they said to go to WAHRAN Trading. But WAHRAN trading Product Manager named Mohammed Attay told me last 26-Jul-14 to go to SONY repairshop in BehBehhani again,(I never noticed it was the same place where I had been )so went back to CARREFOUR again and let them give it to SONY Barrak repairshop,actually I bought the mobile for only 90 KD, but the money I consumed for TAXI transportation going back &forth is already KD 20/- it is terrible.Also the mobile as I have been informed has to be kept with SONY Barrak repairshop for 30 days . If ever they can't solve the problem of my Xperia can they change it with other Sony Xperia even if I add an extra amount.(I like Sony Xperia very much but I cant use this mobile with built in heater.) Please advise what is the best thing to do,incase ..

About performance issue. Try backup all your file and data and reset the phone. After reset the performance will be better than before. And try clear the processes that you're not using in the ram to increase performance. For heating. I played the game asphalt 8. The picture quality I put high your phone will get to 43- 46 Celsius very quickly. All those graphics actually some how unnecessary. So I turn it to low quality resolution. And I get to play all the time non stop and only reaches 40- 43+ Celsius Well. These are my experience. You can try it on yours. Good luck

I've had this device for about 6 months. I got it from Wind Mobile. What is my experience with it? - Call quality: very good. I actually have to ask the other side to make some background sound often because it is so quiet that it feels like there is no one on the other side. That are a ZL to another ZL calls. - Performance: Everything was 'okay' until I updated to KitKat. The OS started lagging and chrome is taking time to load. Skype is taking several seconds to load too. I wish I did not upgrade the firmware but it is too late. The keyboard now is loading slowly. I can't stand the lag. I turned off the animation from the developer's menu, I cleared the cache with various apps but nothing seems to be working 100%. - Battery life: Medium use messaging and emails (just checking them) it drains 60% of the battery. Charging it everyday has become a habit, so I am not complaining that much. - Camera: the camera is nice. It takes great pictures. There are some issues with it tho. For example, if you take a photo, while it looks to be in the correct direction, if you email it from the phone to someone, it appears that the photo is turned left. I know you could rotate photos in windows, but this should not be an issue in a first place coming from an OS that's been so long on the market. Another issue I encountered is that if you copy/paste photos to the Android folder from your backed up photo folder, it will mess up with the phone so that every image you try to assign to a contact is turned left. It is annoying but a firmware reset fixes it. - Heating: the phone becomes hot at some point. That happens usually when playing games or flash videos online. - Built: I dropped it at least twice on a carpet and face down on the ground and it's fine for now. - Coverage: I am with Wind Mobile, so my coverage is limited initially. I can't comment on that. - WiFi and BT: they seem to be working fine - OS issues: as I said above in the performance section, it is the OS that makes the phone sluggish and lagging. I am considering getting a different phone with Windows OS or Blackberry. Unfortunately, Windows OS and Blackberry have their own set of software problems. I am not getting an iPhone as I can't afford 1st. the device itself 2nd. the expensive apps. I hope this helped to those who consider purchasing this device. I would not recommend it to other ppl.

I owned Xperia ZL for about one year, no problem found. Until last week, one day after I update the walkman or album and I think I install a program. So when the phone on idle (ON position) suddenly it was totally off and could not be turned on. I thought, OMG I must go to service center ??? Then after searching at google, I found out Sony mobile manual and it seems Sony newly (probably about on year) products seems has force on/off (emergency button) located closed to the sim or sd card. Using ball point tips, I pressed and about 2 seconds vibrated and release and the phone turned on again. I was happy with that emergency button.

I'm 0 for 2. Got my first xperia zl in Nov-13 and it worked great out of the box. The phone started randomly dropping calls and got worse with time. They tried to fix it but I brought it back several weeks later when the phone stopped working completely. They gave me a new phone but the wifi stopped working within a month. Its back in for repair or replacement. I'm impressed with the phone's capabilities (camera not so much) but very disappointed with its reliability.

unfortunately my xperia ZL (purchased in september 2013) also witnessed a similar problem with the microphone. My xperia ZL is with technocare sony repair centre at lajpat nagar since 18 june 2014. It is really really sad to know that z-series phones cannot be repaired and have to be replaced if there's any hardware fault. I didn't knew it at the time of buying. Reading your comments, I am worried as to what is going to happen with me now... since ZL is discontinued, are they going to replace my ZL with any other refurbished phone. How much more time is it gonna take. Actually I loved my xperia ZL very much...just a microphone problem and now I think I have lost it forever.

*** ok i haven't seen anyone with a broken phone after this, ever, so it is a very safe procedure, however as stated by all boards, you are doing this on your own, neither i or GSM arena are responsible if you brick your phone*** on your pc: download flashtool download a FTF of the rom you want to flash on your phone (this is specific for each phone serial ie: c6502 differs from c6503, so keep that in mind) *ftf is the file extension of a rom (the android) that is flash-able into a phone (install-able into a phone). on your phone: go to settings> security> check unknown sources then go to settings> developer options > check USB debugging *if you cant see developer options, then: go to settings> about phone > tap "build number" about 5 times, it will show a message "you are now developer" connect your phone to the pc so it is recognized with new drivers, also there is a rare chance you may need to install another drivers, but this is VERY rare, after this, disconnect the phone from pc, and it would be a good idea to reboot your pc. ok so now you have all that. - turn your phone OFF,(you should leave it off for about 1 seconds) DONT turn it on - on pc: open flashtool, click on the "lightning" select flashmode and click OK, then select the ftf file and click FLASH after a few seconds you will see an animated image with a phone, and it will tell you to unplug the device power off device press back button plug usb cable -ok so you already have your phone OFF for while, and we don't have a physical back button, so once you see that message with the animated phone, take you phone, push the "volume down button" and connect it to the pc. flash will start, once it finishes disconnect your phone and turn it on, it will take some time to boot. once it has started, reboot it (turn it off and on) so it will remain stable.

those are GOOGLE related and NOT sony, but if you check sony forums, you will see they are still present on sony's rom, there is also the dalvik-bionic issue in favor of ART, thats the reason for many ppl to check "force GPU rendering" to make the phone smoother regarding specific battery drain, here: so yeah, you could wait a little also please forgive my triple post, i keept getting a message saying there was a forum rule or something against the full post, don't know why o.O you can also check the earlier user's opinions on kitkat and see it has a lot of issues

I'm from Malaysia. I updated kitkat last on 13 June! So far. Everything goes smooth. I din notice any problem. After updated,I reset my phone. infrared blaster still same. Notification setting became more. Immersive mode on asphalt 8. But phone a slightly laggy when swiping the screen in settings only compared to jelly bean is smoother Any question can ask me : )

they showed up the ZL2, is just timing and production procedure, the xperia T is no longer being made or the xperia S, the Z and ZL are now in that grey area, because there is the Z1 and the Z2 already out, so in other words, the ZL is an old phone, i love mine, and while a lot of people has had issues with their handsets mine works and looks lovely. right now, i'd advice to everyone to wait for the Z2 compact, or the ZL2 and get that instead of the ZL, they will be getting a much better device. i will wait for sony phone with 4 GB ram or more, whenever that happens, not in a hurry to ditch my trusty ZL.

I got an my xperia zl kitkat update at 9th of june in between the mid day in Lahore Pakistan. It takes almost one an hour or more for download and installation at the wifi speed of 400 kbps. This update is amazing no crashing no bugs simple straight ang elegant update. The main feature of this update is battrey optimization become fabulous. to all of you having issues with battery drain in 4.4 (kitkat) update, disable "google play services", clear cache, and then clear data, if you can try to uninstall all updates of this app, and then re-download it: if you check the users opinions about this app, you will notice a lot of people are having battery issues. if you want to take a more "radical" approach, then go to accounts and disable all sync options, so your phone wont sync at all, also, disable ALL google apps, clear cache, and clear data of them. also! EVERY-TIME YOU DO THIS, RESTART YOUR PHONE. turn it off, leave it off for 15 or 20 seconds then power on. problem should be solved. however i encourage people to post on sony forums: so we can have better support and faster update rolling. also you all can try to install "Cyanogen Mod" on your ZL, it is a better ROM (android version) than the sony's, it comes clean, which means: no extra apps or shovel-ware, this means no facebook, youtube, xperia stuff (walkman, album, etc), this makes your phone extremely fast and responsive, you can also set your SD-card as a main storage so ALL apps will use it to save data on it, rater than your phone's memory, etc so it is very recommended for all of those who want a stable and useful phone, also, you can install all those apps from google play, and configure your phone so they only run whenever you want, saving battery and resources.

Since April 2014 using Sony Xperia ZL. Using with Lotus Notes loaded for official purpose. If Battery fully charged 100% in the morning ,it doesn't last till evening 5-6 pm. even it is at "stamina" mode. Hence NOT HAPPY with performance of battery . I bought ZL in March 2014. It worked well so far. I was playing temple run and all of a sudden the screen went blank and there was no response from the device. The battery was well over 40%. I tried to hit power button. Device vibrated and tried to turn itself on but shortly after the startup screen it went blank again. It did not power on till I put it on charger. It turned on finally and still the battery was above 35%. So this is surely not happening due to low battery. Device is still turning off and refusing to turn on frantically while the battery is above 90%. I have reset the device. But the problem persist. I thought before visit service center lets ask other users.

both device are actually almost similar unless we talk about being waterproof or dustproof. If you need your phone to be waterproof or dustproof the go for xperia z. otherwise go for xperia zl. moreover, complaints about battery back-up is more in xperia zl.

fake info? why do you judge like that? you can update your xperia ZL with any XperiaZL rom, if you worried about the base-band you can uncheck that when flashing, so you will retain that but have an updated phone about the battery issue, disable ALL sync options, ALL of them, also disable "backup" with google. the battery issue is due to a continuous syncing which means your phone is using the internet connection ALL the time. also if don't use facebook, twitter, google+, then go to apps, force stop, clear data and disable everything facebook, twitter and google+ related (about 12 different apps), restart your phone (turn off and then on) and your phone should have no battery issues, it will also boot faster; if it continues having battery drain, (do a backup using sony pc companion) then either do a factory reset, or use SUS (sony update service) to repair your software, after this, you should be ok, the annoying part, is, you will have to install everything again.

Nothing wrong with my phone. it was running like a dream from the time I got last year till i updated to 4.2.2. Sine then a whole lot of issues. My phone doesn't even load the ring tone. That's how bad this update is. taking up lot of memory and draining the battery

ok guys updated to 4.4 but going back to 4.3 the update is actually clean, i don't use facebook, twitter, google+ or anything like that, since i am not rooted i disable all of them, also i disable the auto sync and the location is set to device only, when you do a clean install or a factory reset, right after you set your google account uncheck all the options you see, all those sync stuff, back up device.. etc, UN-CHECK them all, this way you will have a very long battery; to avoid the scrolling lag go to developer options and check force GPU, after this, reboot it, your phone will work very smooth. then you can sync your contacts by taping the phone icon and select the google account option, you dont need to keep the phone syncing. if you are a facebook user, then get the app from google play, also do this for twitter and so on. this will avoid the services issue that drains battery in most cases so why am i going back to 4.3? firstly i use my phone for many things, ill try to name a few, of the most annoying in my case: GPS apps cant access SD-card, this is really awful, yes, it can be fixed by rooting, but i am not rooted, also there has been reported issues using the "doomlord easyroot method" so, i am not rooting, which means no SD-card access for most apps, with gps this is a most, i have about 2 GB of maps, and i wont be filling the phone's internal smemory... some photo apps cant access SD-card, if you need to record a travel or want to record various videos you cant... some unoptimized kitkat apps will get the phone very hot, i guess is how they use processing power and memory, i have 2 online game i could only play for 10 mins before the phone went to 42ºc. some emulators had issues, ok the new full screen option is great, it hides the menu and status bar, on most apps, but some emulators became unplayable, recast doesn't even boot games, this was what really got me thinking going back to 4.3 no file browser will be able to write or edit stuff on your SD-card and office apps will have issues handling SD-card data (once again this can be fixed by rooting) so for me this is more than enough to go back to 4.3, until there is a safe and easy way to root and optimized emulators. so if you only use your phone for communication, and "social networking" you will be fine, you may actually love the update but if you use your SD-card a lot, and need to work around with files, and games on external storage, you wont enjoy it. hope this helps everyone

The most weird thing is now that ; If I start charging it off the Wall outlet when the phone is ON, it either does not charge(shows as charging though !) , or completes charging in around 24 hours !!!! In other words ; it consumes as same power than charging , just at standby !!!!! However, if the phone is OFF , it fully charges in 1-2 hours. Hey guys! I don�t know exactly what I did to solve the problem of battery draining in my Xperia after the update to KitKat. But now it seems to be OK. =) Here is what I�ve tried: 1) go to Settings > Apps > Running and kill all �Google Play services� apps including those listed in �Cached processes�; 2) Installed and run GServiceFix ( 3) Recharge the smartphone to 100%; 4) Uninstall the GServiceFix; 5) check Power management > Battery usage (Google Play service is not listed as consumer anymore) In my Xperia (c6503) the battery usage after 4 hours and 15 min is 84%!!! Screen consumption in 26%, Mediaserver 14%, Android System 12%, Walkman 12%, etc. I hope to hear from you..

A few more great things I found out after the update: 1. The camera now gives you an option to choose between two ratios in superior auto mode: 16:9 & 4:3. The latter takes pictures in around 11MP. That is something that Sony did great. The 16:9 takes the same 8.4MP pictures. 2. The in built keyboard is now better than before and understands words better. 3. Now you can open as many mini apps as you want (previously it was only one). Yet I expected that Sony would add a video call option, tap unlock (Xperia Z2) options to the update. Anyway, that's my observation. Ciao

I have updated my ZL into 4.4.2 yesterday and till now everything is running perfectly smooth. Though I didn't like the status bar change, but I guess with time I'll get used to it. The The icons remained the same, only the battery icon changed in the status bar. Now you can switch various icons on or off (show/hide) from status bar. The camera is now even better. You can now take multiple shots (burst shots) just by press and hold on the screen (if you enable touch capture) or the virtual shutter or the mechanical shutter. The picture quality didn't increase that much, but the burst time is now much less (it can take more photoes than before in a given time). The video remained the same, but the sound quality in the walkman seemed to be increased a little bit. These are the primary things that I noticed in last 24 hours. I expected that Sony will let us choose the notification color (like SP), but that isn't the case. Those who have updated your phone, please leave a few lines about your experience after the upgrade. The Mobile is awesome. I am using since 6 months. The applications response is too good. Camera is great, but when compared to Nokia Lumia, there is some difference in quality, I mean Nokia's Cam Lens seems better I think. The usability is nice and I recommend this mobile. I can't join an incoming call with existing outgoing call as a Conference, not sure about the problem..Rest works perfectly..

I had a S2 for 2 years, which served me well, but like the entire line of Samsung products it is poorly constructed with cheap and weak materials. So instead of considering hardware specifications only, I'd like more quality in other aspects, like the enclosure, borders and so on, which Sony has a known attention to refinement in its products. it is a very poor fone... i purchased in Oct2013 and till march 2014 it has been submitted to service center twice for repairing. Further the repairing process is very poor. once you submit the fone your it will be replaced by a already refurbished fone submitted by some other customer. The ear piece of the fone is very poor as most of the times calls are not audible

Hi guys.. this is my experience with the ZL.. initially when i bought it the front camera was not working and i had some issues with wifi.. i got it replaced under warranty.. Now its all set.. :) .. amazing phone.. good processor..decent camera(like a sony digicam).. i've had it for 4 months now.. Playstation certified..So gaming is amazing.. It heats up when u overuse it which is pretty common for any android phone.. Also its beautiful UI beats any phone in this price range..

Is second times for my sony ZL go to service center again and again. This time failed loading startup and keep restarting itself. (I try use the hint: hold RESET button plus Volume up to totally shutdown device "3 times vibration") Is it just lucky to have sony products always problem. Now think of buying HTC or Iphone. :(

there seems to be an issue regarding wifi direct on xperia devices here: long story short: there is no SONY app to do that, you need to install an app from android market (i still use that name ¬_¬) , on both devices, and then share/send whatever you want to. for xperia ZL-Z-ZR the apps in order of preference / aceptance of the sony hardware/software are these: ­ hope it helps

Yes, Sony xperia ZL supports USB OTG. You can connect your pen drive to it, transfer files or watch videos. it is also PlayStation certified. It works perfectly with my 32 Gb pen drive. All you need is a small USB OTG cable wire and you're ready.

I own a Xperia ZL for 7 months for your info. The default camera app is decent. But there are better camera apps available on Google Play I have to say. As for battery backup, it's good to use mobile data only when needed. P.S My phone doesn't have data. But occasional gaming and listening to the FM Radio will last me about 40-60% of juice till 8pm or so. Heating is common when browsing the web, playing games etc. This issue happens quite often on Android 4.2 But this issue has been resolved since the 4.3 update. Overall, my experience with the device till now was a pleasent one. No problems at all till now. Hope that helps. Cheers!

I also have an Xperia ZL. It's a common issue to all devices. If you are running games in 3D. It will eat too much battery. On the browser side. If there is more than 1 image on the website. Then it will eat a lot of battery. Consider buying a powerbank.

Dear Harsh, You may go for xperia ZL rather than ZR. The mains pros on ZL when compared to ZR is Screen Size which is 5inch, internal memory 16gb you will get 11 gb+ usable and front cam is 2 mp. ZR is much handy compared to ZL and it have water resistant and dust resistant tech. which is not included in ZL. I'm using ZL for past 3 months. My points are go for black color phone white phone frame have a silver layer which is getting peeled off. i had this problem the issue is with the battery if you connect to the wall charger it will work. After replacing the battery everything works fast and run antutu and even beating gs3 on the tests. I think they used bad battery causing issues with this phone. I like this phone as it is more compact than xperia z and performs the same.

But Sony proved its worthiness by giving out a single update(firmware-.101), The phone's working better now. One lesson that I learnt- NEVER update the phone using phone's update center.... Update it using PC companion or SUS... About 4.4 KitKat.,, Do wait for it, cause ur gonna get lots n lots of features like 4K recording(not sure), screen turns on when double tapping it,etc... We will be getting it in the second quarter of 2014,i.e., april or may.... If any1 still confused about buying this phone, search for any other new arrivals... Else stop asking about buying it... Hi, I need some help.. I bought a 2nd hand ZL n usibg it for 2 weeks already.. 1st day im using it, I do received notification on latest os JB4.3 n can be update via OTA.. So I try to update OTA via wifi. Download completed but fail to install. I though maybe it wifi problem as during dload it always pending n continue randomly.. so I just used it and install some anti virus app on it like AVG.. When activate it, AVG scan n found that my ZL was rooted and advice me to back with stock OS.. I did Full Unroot using SuperSU app. Then I try again to update OTA n still failed to install.. Is this only happen with me or any one encounter this problem? Or do I just update my ZL using PC Companion? Pls assist TQ

yeah.. however if you check the official forums you get answers like this: so it is not really officially discontinued, but its no longer available(by carriers), as stated by many users this is due to many reasons, the most obvious is the amount of competence, sony is showing off around 13 different new models every 6 months, if you check most carriers around the world stopped selling xperia T 10 months ago, and that was a flagship, the ZL is NOT a flagship, it never was, this phone is more like a experiment, and actually feels like it in many ways; if you check: the ZL is actually more expensive than the Z, so it is becoming in some sort of "cult" device, since from the star it was available in a few markets, add to that the very short life-span it had, so yeah. other people said it is due to poor sales, this is true, specially because it was never released in many markets, and most people preferred the Z over the ZL, right now the obvious reason is the price. and another top comment is "because this is a faulty device", and while many units did had issues, the ZL has less fault % than other sony products, the xperia V was more faulty, then the T, and currently the Z has more reported issues, it had more % of sudden death, sometimes the glass (back or screen) cracked by itself, the mic had more fail % than the ZL's, same for the front camera, so while the ZL line did had issues, those were not as big and "numerous" as with other sony phones (not to mention some TV sets, and their game console), so i disagree with this comment. and finally, as stated before, this was just an experiment, if you check the following phones, none kept the IR blaster, the soft back, front and back(not flagships) camera position. however they did retain the frame, handling, physical buttons, sony logo on the glass (all future phones should come with it), stylish notification led. so there you have it, even if this phone dies, i still enjoy it, and while i use it a lot for pictures, GPS, and gaming, (which is sometimes annoying due to its battery) I'll keep it for a while, maybe 2 years, i want my next phone to really be more powerful than this, and i mean "really", at least 4GB ram with a 64-bit processor, water resistant, IR blaster and 128 GB internal memory, i already have one of these: on a camera, and yes it works on the ZL (thinking on getting one for the phone itself), with the current development, we may see such a phone next year, but i want to wait a little bit.

yes, the camera is bad, but not that bad, try other camera apps: a better camera. pro capture. cameraFV-5 and lenovo camera app. try those and use the special features each has, like the iso meter, aperture switch, noise reduction, and sequence shot, then you will be able to enjoy your camera, also remember to set them all to save on SD-card and quality to 13MP, another good idea is to toy around with the flash, and the camera shutter sound.

I bought Xperia ZL in october 2013. I bought it with Android 4.1.2 Jellybean. Later , i updated it to 4.2.2 and now 4.3. So far i didn't find any of the issues with this phone. Camera is 13 MP. Clarity is Awesome an more realistic. To be honest, the front camera is a Con i have to say. Clarity is good but it was at the bottom. so if you wanna take pics of urself with the front cam, that's quite embarrassing. Yes, mobile gets heated up sometimes, i face this one too. So i'll give it some time to cool. It cools down in a short time. Battery gets drained very soon. It is because of the HD screen and resolution i think but not sure. What i was doing is i have reduced it's brightness and back light to 30. To prevent the battery from draining fast. You need to turn on the stamina mode and low battery mode. With those two turned on, charging will last long. I charge my phone for every two days. I have seen many people say that it takes several hours to charge the phone. But my phone gets charged very fast. I've never faced the problem. Since it got 2GB ram and 1.5 Quad core processor. Apps run very smoothly and i've been playing highend games in my mobile ever since the first day i bought it. Never faced any disturrbance in that. Now that i found that it ha got upgrade to Android kitkat. Waiting for the update. My Overall Experience with MY ZL is Awesome. I'll Give My Phone 9/10.

Sony didn't mentioned that all Z series has to be/ will be water dust resistant. And ZL is a variant of the Z, which means that it doesn't necessarily has to inherit the water and dust resistant feature. This has got to do with marketing and product positioning, which is why Sony decided to release ZR in May 2013. The key selling point in ZL is the compactness of the phone, its probably the smallest 5 incher phone that you can get on the market (even smaller than the S3 & S4) ZR is somewhat a mixture of both ZL and Z, lower screen resolution, 4.55 inch screen but it has the water and dust resistant features. Simply put, the Z series in 2013 (Z,ZL and ZR) offers the users with choice, and they're almost on par in terms of specs wise. The later release of the Z series (Z1, Z Ultra) offers a more premium phone with high end specs. On the other hand the Xperia M and C are mid range phones which has lower specs as compared to the Z series to target at specific range of buyers. Thus, the Z series is not totally about JUST the water and dust proof features, its more on the specs difference as compared to other Xperia series.

Go for ZL! I'm using ZL since October 2013, and my ZL is running 4.3. I got to say that heating problem exists in 4.2.2 that's true, but 4.3 improves the issue a lot. When I play game like this for , the phone only warms up and it's not heating. Furthermore, ZL is confirmed to be getting 4.4 update, which I highly doubt it that Knight will get any updates though, And also, the chipset, CPU and GPU is rather old for 2014 standards, or even 2013. ZL's have a competitive edge over the Knight in this aspect. Zl support SD card slot too.

After using it for over 2 months now, I'm here with its pros and cons.. PROS: 1. Great movie watching experience due to its clear audio feature for audio and mobile Bravia engine for video. Full HD Video playback is hassle free. Thanks to its 1.5 GHz quad core processor. 2. Quality of HD and Full HD video recording is quite good. Features like video stabilisation make it even better. 3. Good sunlight legibility. Viewing under bright sunlight is not a problem. 4. Great multitasking capabilities. The credit goes to its 2 GB RAM. CONS: 1. Heating problem... The temperature goes even beyond 50 degree Celsius at times when its cores are put to task. 2. Its display goes blank sometimes and then you have to wait for it to come back on its own as you have no other option because of its non-removable battery. 3. Still camera image capture is not upto the mark. There's lot of noise and graininess in still images. 4. Battery backup is quite low. It lasts merely for 8-9 hours with about half an hour each of phone calls, music listening, video playback, and an hour each of web browsing and light gaming. Now something that I would neither like to keep in pros and nor in cons.. It's just thatthat these things could have been better for this price range. 1. Viewing angles could have been much better. It feels especially while playing games like Temple Run, Rail Rush etc. 2. Despite great benchmark scores, its gaming performance is not upto the mark. Games like Subway Surfers and RipTide, etc run better in phones that are half-priced in comparison (like Micromax Canvas HD).. 3. Music quality, though good, could have been much better, as expectations from a brand like SONY are quite high when it comes to music. Nowadays, Samsung phones are offering a better music listening experience.

I love this phone.It has really narrow bezels which makes it much more compact to hold than Galaxy S4 and HTC One.And about processor well I managed to overclock it safely to 2Ghz using Doom kernel so it runs faster now.

I bought it on 26-Jan-2013 from Mumbai, Excellent Display, Performance, Camera, After having latest available update 10.4.1.B.0.101 its even heat less. Battery backup 1 full day with full use of call/internet/Wi-Fi/music/game etc. Overall 4/5 star rating ****.

if you a heavy gamer, get the Z1 compact, ok i will try to be objective here (not easy since i love my ZL) the Z, Z1, ZL, have a terrible battery life, optimus and S4, have slightly better battery, but not great, that is the big issue with smartphones. on the phones you named, they have slightly better chip-sets than the ZL, so they should behave better with games, also as stated they have a slightly better battery. i have a ZL and i love it, the one thing i love about this phone over other brands its the build-in dualshock 3 support, no need to root your phone and get 3rd party apps, just plug and play, it will auto pair, and you can use a comfy gamepad in most games nowdays, i recommend you to test the reicast emulator and the PPSSPP if you want to push your phone to its limits, and retroarch if you want full retro systems support, they all work with Bluetooth controllers. if you do get the ZL, test the IR blaster as soon as you get it, and all its functionality, get a 64GB microSD, lenovo SNAPit, camera FV-5, pro capture, and A-better camera, and a tripod, you will love this phone you should try out every phone you may want, hold them, test them and make a choice, it will be yours in the end. hope this helps

Utmu, I am an Xperia ZL. I make an heavy use of it, for games, internet, multitasking, videochat. It is excellent in everything. It never freezes, and manages loads of apps running at the same time very quickly. It feels very comfortable to have on hands. It is for sure the best of the 3 phones you are unsure about. The only downside is a non-very good battery.

I bought it on 5 Feb 2014, then the phone will be turned off automatically when running an application that need high resources like games and benchmark test application. This happened since 19 Feb 2014 and now the phone at Sony Service Center..

Have purchased Sony Xperia ZL, 2 weeks ago and loaded with "Lotus Notes" for official communications purpose. Since then facing a serious problem of battery life. If battery charged full 100 % at morning 8 o clock , it can last maximum up to 2-3 pm noon. I am not HAPPY with kind of performance. Please advice.
