New update of Pixel Experience rom is available on pixelexperience.org. It is based on August 2019 security patch. My phone had updated several hours ago. No problem so far and no new option I found. I did update using OTA. Using custom rom in Xiaomi so far is better choice for me when you use less than 4 GB of RAM Xiaomi phone. This Pixel Experience rom is better in frequently update compared to MIUI stock rom.

Still using it, with Pixel Experience rom patch July 2019, Android Pie software, works very well so far, unlock fingerprint also works quite fast. I will say, unlock fingerprint using Pixel Experience rom is faster that stock rom MIUI. MIUI keep updated by them I think doesn't solve problems. So, using custom rom usually is better option than MIUI. If users would like to keep using MIUI, I guess better keep stay in MIUI 9.6.4.0 (Marshmallow).

I think all or almost all the smartphones there have weakness about LCD burn-in/image retention. I noticed my Mi 5s have image retention since MIUI 9 and after I finished playing game PPSSPP app. Because the horror game I played too dark, I set brightness my phone to full. Maybe not more than 1 week after that, it became burn-in/image retention. So, not only AMOLED or OLED LCD can experience the same thing, an IPS LCD also can do that.

To make it run one of best performance I think root the phone, install Kernel Adiutor and set GPU governor to performance, restart the phone. I tested once, yes it was very good in multitasking, but battery drains faster. I used Pixel Experience rom with security patch June 5, 2019.

Well, the latest Pixel Experience rom for Mi 5s I tested so far is one of the best for daily usage. Now it can take screenshot by swipe down 3 fingers (like in MIUI). There is also color calibration inside Display menu. Make color blue, red, green, reduce to minimize burn-in issue for example. Well, because it is RAM 3 GB version, can't say very good for do all things. Overall, gaming (I don't test PUBG), like AOV is good, no lag (I set GPU set on demand using Kernel Adiutor). Performance, multitasking also fine enough (I think set GPU governor performance is the best for multi task).

First of first, you should unlock bootloader of your phone. Here is the link: After successful, install TWRP via Minimal ADB. Download Pixel Experience rom from pixel.experience.org website. When your phone ia ready (has done bootloader unlocked, installed TWRP, already have Pixel Experience rom inside phone memory ), use this steps: 1. Turn of your phone, then press volume up + power, keep pressing it for several seconds then release power button but keep pressing volume up, it will enter TWRP menu 2. Choose Advanced, wipe system, cache, dalvik, do not wipe internal storage 3. Choose install, select Pixel Experience rom you already downloaded, follow the instructions, your phone will install the rom 4. After successfully installed, wipe dalvik cache, system. Then reboot your phone.

Gaming performance is absolutely horrible for something with a Snapdragon 821 (brother's Mi 5S 3/64 on 10.1 global). Fortnite is LITERALLY UNUSABLE. You spend more time on the lock screen than in an actual game. PUBG runs terribly as well - within 15 minutes, the game becomes a slideshow. Smaller games reload after you leave from it for just 30 seconds. It's a shame, because the phone is still pretty good and capable for 2018...

Finally, I succeeded update via OTA to MIUI 10.1.1.0 Global Stable. Yes, it is still based on Android 7.0 (it is fine). The UI looks fresh, icon apps becomes small, there are new icon apps. Sound plug charging, open lockscreen, take screenshot, be difference. Sounds simple and fresh sounds. I had tested using WiFi, my network, tes YouTube, download Play Store, no problem. GPS is like in MIUI 9.6.1.0. It also no problem in charging. I write this while my phone is being charged. No problem. I see also, the camera has new feature, portrait mode. I like the UI. For volume sound actually gives no problem for me. Yes, when you are listening music for example, you press volume up or down once, it won't change the volume. The first press will make the phone shows volume bar vertical. For notification my apps, like Bukalapak, WhatsApp, Google, work fine. The LED notification also works. Finherprint yes, like before, it is slow. Double tap to wake is okay. For multasking, the display is different, RAM management looks better. There is also enterprise mode in the Settings, don't know what is it. This is so far I see on my Mi 5s. I will add or write again if I find something good or negative things on this MIUI 10 Global Stable.

I have just thi Mi 5s 64 GB version 2 days. So far this phone is amazing. I am currenty using MIUI 8.5.4.0. GPS works fine so far. Before I update to MIUI 8.5.4.0, the GPS is not good. Open Waze will not connect to GPS, can't open Grab application, even location setting had been set to high accuracy. In MIUI 8.5.4.0, global rom on my phone, overall is work great. Calling, WhatsApp calling, incoming calls, video call WhatsApp, work great. No issue in Bluetooth, NFC, GPS (yes, if I compared to my BlackBerry Aurora, it is better GPS BlackBerry Aurora), internet 4G LTE. The downside I think is the fingerprint sensor, not accurate, sometimes takes more than 12 seconds to open unlock screen.

Xiaomi.eu(unofficial global firmware that trims 200mb+ of crap out and includes many languages) you ensure your phone is unlocked then just install the Chinese weekly, enable root, flash twrp for your specific device found on the same weekly page at xiaomi.eu via Flashify with root (just download the apk ), then install the xiaomi.eu firmware under twrp. You only do that once. After install updates via the updater app when it's available or manually down directly from xiaomi.eu and use the "Choose update package" option in the updater app. Also the great thing about this is you don't need to wait around for weeks/months for official global firmware when a new device comes out.

I am using it, fingerprint sensor lags. Sometimes apps shutdown itself even there is available memory. Especially Spotify along with Google Maps navigation. I have a ghost screen problem since day 10 of device purchase. Device really heats up when charging, software suggests close fast-charging but there are no options, I think they point that you should use computer USB to charge device in not-fast mode. Device heats up in normal use also but this doesn't effect performance generally, but LG display got ghost screen problem due to this overheat problem. I love its battery performance, it really can hold up 1 day even game play.

Well, at that body size, 3200 mAh is normal. Moreover, you could add some spices at your ROM to make it last better. I have lenovo a7000, it has 2900 mAh, 5.5" device, and it lasts up to 1.5 days ;).

Largan lens click far more better picture quality than sony lens. For comparison you can check photo of Micromax Canvas A111 by zooming which is only 8 megapixels and feel the real picture quality and compare with any other 8 mp camera phones. I hope Xiaomi will jump towards Largan lens. In reality , picture quality of Micromax A111 was better than this phone. So, I hope Xiaomi will choose better and higher quality camera lens in Xiaomi mi7. Actually I want to have world's best camera on upcoming flagship phones.

With the last automatic update of my phone 2 weeks ago (android 7.0, Miui 9.1), at last the fingerprint sensor is working fast and the battery drains much less than before, so I never need to charge during the day, even after a long day. It is also more responsive than before. Definitely, a good optimizing job, the phone finally works at its full potential! Do not hesitate to check for a software update, it is worth it!

I am having a lot of issues with GPS with this phone. I have the latest update to 9 but still problems persist and I heavily depend on Waze for my commute so this is a huge annoyance for me. mi5s is one of xiaomi finest. everything works great. it has one of the best camera that you can get with that kind of price. however, there's downside to it, which is the updates. the phone has been released for over a year now but it still running on marshmallow which is absurd for a so called flagship. if you dont care about android updates, get this phone now. really worth the money! If, however you really care about latest updates, you can skip this and get Mi A1 instead.

For about the same prices ($270) , which phone should I get: Xiaomi Mi A1, or Xiaomi Mi 5s? I'm completely aware that the Mi 5s wins the performance category, but personally I think that Mi A1 looks better, will have more updates, no bloatwares, dual cameras and has portrait mode. I'm really a heavy user, 70% gaming (graphic intensive), 20% web browsing, 9% photography and 1% text and calls (I have another phone for that).

Hi, Few days ago I received MIUI 8.5.4.0 global stable OTA update, and I can confirm that battery life is now about 15% better than before, especially in standby mode which now drains only 1% every 2-3 hours. Everything else remains the same.. Still waiting for MIUI9 global stable!

I've had an M1 5s for 9 months, and though it's a good enough phone I have a number of complaints: 1) The phone ringtone is too quiet, I have missed too many calls to count them. 2) Too many contact details go missing. 3) The manufacturer's apps are unnecessary and don't work, where do the downloads go, certainly not into the downloads folder. 4) No android updates in 9 months! So that's it, I'm going back to Apple, I pick up my iPhone X on Friday.

Any silicon back cover will do the job.. The purpose of it in my opinion is not only to protect the phone when it drops! But more importantly to keep the phone stable in your palm, and in this regard it makes a huge difference in the way you handle the device, as the phone is really slippery and uncomfortable to use without back cover, similar to all current mobile phones made of metal or glass or a combination of the two materials.

Yes, that's true, I didn't mention it in my review because I use back cover and to me the buttons are completely fine. Anyway, the buttons are not loose by any means, for example if you shake the phone they will not jiggle or make sound or anything like that. However, since they are attached to the curved side of the phone the back part of the buttons is more prominent (or more exposed) than the front part and thus they are more able to move a little bit backwards only when they are pushed by fingers, and since the buttons are thin and sharp they're more likely to get stuck with the fingers and make this not so pleasant slight movement, this does not happen during the normal use, I only feel it when I play with the phone with one hand and flip it over repeatedly, (however the movement is sturdy and not loose at all). Anyway, if you use back cover (which I recommend because the phone is somewhat slippery and uncomfortable to be used without a cover) you'll never feel any of that. On the other hand, the buttons click very well and the location of the power button is exactly where I want it to be. Another thing I didn't mention in my previous review is Battery life, before I updated to MIUI 8.5 the battery was very good, but after the update it became a little worse, it's still good enough and can easily last me for a full day of heavy usage and more than two days of lite usage, but again, it's not as long lasting as it was before the update, hopefully this can be fixed with MIUI 9.

In the gray/black version nothing unusual can be seen around the display, the whole front of the phone is black, and when the display is turned off you can't tell where the display starts and ends! (unless you are outdoors under the direct sun light).

Hi everyone, I've been using Xiaomi mi 5s for 3 months now and it's still as fast and responsive as the first day I received it (in fact it's faster now after MIUI 8.5 update), multitasking is unlike anything I tried before! (Snapdragon 821 is a real beast!) mine is 128/4 GB grey/black color (which I recommend over silver or gold colors in order to avoid the ugly black borders around the display), and when most apps are opened it still has around 1.5 GB free RAM, and when everything is closed in the background I get around 2.2 GB free RAM. Few days ago I did GeekBench4 test (after restarting the phone with nothing opened in the background) and got the following scores: Single core 1821 Multi core 4350 (Note: you will not get the same results if the phone was on charge or has been used for a while before the test, you need to close everything in the background and let the phone rest for a few minutes before performing the Benchmark test in order to get the best results. I got the same results the first day I received the phone 3 month ago.. so in my opinion the performance is excellent and stable. The main camera is Excellent too, in daylight conditions it's a bit better than Galaxy A5 2016 (I compared the two many times), and in artificial light conditions it's comparable to A5 2016 and even better in some shots. the front-facing camera in Xiaomi mi5s is much better than the one in A5 2016 in all lighting conditions! The display is very sharp very beautiful to look at and very bright, viewing angles and sunlight legibility are very good too. The Glass covering the display: although not Gorilla glass it's a very high quality glass and better than gorilla glass 4 in terms of smudges resistance, it stays clean and shiny almost all the time (compared to Galaxy A5 2016 with Gorilla glass 4) Downsides of Xiaomi mi5s: -fingerprint sensor: not very good, not bad either, to me it's still reliable especially when my hand is not very dry and cold (otherwise the sensor can become very annoying!). -ambient light sensor: is not as accurate as it should be, many times a day I find myself adjusting the brightness which sometimes gets too dim or too bright in some lighting conditions, hopefully this will be fixed in the next update. -the external speaker: lacks bass, but still loud and clear nonetheless. -MIUI updates and android updates in general: while almost all other flagships from last year have already received Android Nougat update long time ago, Xiaomi mi5s is still stuck with Marshmallow and MIUI 8! Other than these cons the phone in general is excellent, and in the current price range I can't find any better alternative, especially if performance, camera, design and weight are your main priorities!

I've been using the phone for 3 months now (128/4GB), no heating issues after the update (MIUI 8.5) other than the first 30 minutes while on charging, which is normal among phones with fast charging technology, other than charging no overheating what so ever. In terms of finger print sensor, It has become better after the update (MIUI 8.5) but still not perfect, however, it's good enough for me and I can call it reliable, I noticed that it works much better (like 9/10) in the warm weather when my hand is warm and moisturized, while it gets worse in the colder weather when my hand is dry and cold!

I am a heavy gamer, browser and content manager... multitasking is superb.. cleaning out memory tells you how much memory you cleaned. More features that any phone i have come across. Good phone when running MIUI 9 (Xiaomi EU) but you have to apply some tweaks in order to get good battery life and good low light camera performance. First, the fingerprint reader is not reliable and does also impose standby battery drain. I have switched off the fingerprint reader to conserve battery. Also, when rooted one can install forcedoze which improve standby battery performance even more. Last night it only dropped 2 percent during 9 hours. The next important tweak is to install the ported Google Camera app . Daylight shots is very good when using the MIUI camera but low light shoots are much better when using Google Camera app and HDR+.

Hi, i live in Serbia, i have Lte network. Before Mi 5s i had Samsung S7 and Iphone 6, Mi 5s is best phone i had for price much lower then competition. I installed MIUI 9 3 weeks ago, EU rom, and must say phone is faster and more fluid then ever! Plus i have OTA updates every week. Value for money 10/10! Good job Xiaomi

Ok, Issue solved! Today I received the new OTA update (miui 8.5.0.3), no overhrating issues any more :D, it's cool now! In Addition to some very good enhancements to the UI, in terms of speed, ram management and featchers (toggles space now can be expanded in the pull down shade), Also fingerprint sensor got a noticeable boost in terms of accuracy and speed, still not perfect though.

I'm a former user of S7 flat and S7 Edge.... im now using this. Those three smartphones including this are great both in performance and built. No device is perfect. Even S7 edge has the best appearance for last year's but it has a fragile body. Mi 5s has good balance but Xiaomi doesnt have its service center everywhere. So it depends on people to choose based on common opinion and facts not listen to such a bias opinion like yours. Tell specific whats the reason you could say that? Not just your tale.

I am able to copy file larger than 10GB into my unit, probably it is a non-issue for internal memory. Xiaomi Mi series phone only comes with internal memory, no slot for Micro SD card add on, so no need bother on Micro SD card support.

If anyone of you has the 64GB or 128GB version, can confirm for me if this phone's internal storage can store single video file that is larger than 4GB? I just found out this limitation on my Micro SD card where in FAT32, I cannot store file over 4GB. Advises are formatting to exFAT or NTFS, but neither of the format can be supported by my phone.

Thank you for your reply Actually, after watching more videos I noticed the color shift (you mentioned) while in different lighting conditions, sometimes it looks silver and shiny, other times gray and matte! but in both cases the finish is matte and NOT BRUSHED METAL! I still think that there is a version (maybe exclusive to china market) had a brushed metal finish (similar to the Redmi Pro and MI 5s plus). if you want to check it yourself you can type the following in Youtube search bar: "chinese 5s-5s plus" or "Buy or not to buy Mi5S Mi5S Plus review" and check the first result for each search, you'll see what I mean (the brushed metal version of MI 5s). Anyway, I'm gonna order the global version (the only option I have) which has matte finish, I think it looks fine and maybe better than the brushed metal version (in certain lighting conditions!) There is no color different , just depends on light , in sunlight it is purple like and in dead white light room is light gray like darker silver , and some times dark gray , I love color shift , it's very very special . Ok. So today I just bought the Mi 5S. It is a great phone, considering the price is cheaper than any phone that uses SD 821. But the phone is hot all the time. After I bought it and took it home, I charged it until 100%, and it went approximately 46 °C. After realizing that it is too hot, I put it on standby for an our before using it. I'm going to order Mi 5s gray color soon, But I'm confused because after whatching many reviews I noticed that the back panel in the gray model (in some units) has a brushed metal finish with a dark gray color, while in other units it was matt light gray metal! The confusion is that both of them were referred to as GRAY!! And what makes it even more confusing is that I didn't find any review mentioning that or anyone in the internet seems to notice this obvious difference! I much prefer the dark gray brushed metal varient, and I dont want to end up with the matte gray one! believe me, I have the MI 5s - and I would say, don't touch it with a pole. It is a brick, it won't even let me make calls and won't let me change the locale from "China". Anybody looking to buy one, let me know - I want a HTC One. Stick with phones that are reputable! And I have tried getting help on the online forum, not a thing. The help files are all pidgin English and I am not technical enough to get around the lack of syntax. Perhaps this just needs a more technically minded person? One the plus side, the battery and screen are A+.

This is a fantastic device! I've had HTC Desire A8181 and Samsung Galaxy S3 before. Both are not anywhere near in abilities and ease of use. MIUI is awesome. Surprisingly to me, because Samsung and HTC both taught me that vendors put tons of bloatware you will never use in a device. I can't remember bloatware in this one. And you can actually delete programs you don't want. Except for Gmail (I use Google Inbox, so Gmail is excessive). Battery life is extremely long. After whole day of navigating with Google Maps (and using Internet in the process), talking on the phone, then some youtube in the evening, it might still have ~30% of charge left. And it charges to 100% in 1 hour. I'm so pleased and amazed with this I want to squeal in joy. And paired with Xiaomi MiBand 2 is becomes even more awesome. Highly recommended to have this pair. And then I remember how much I paid for this device... And I want to scream "Thank you Xiaomi for this wonderful present!"

Good hardware but flaky software. Falls over and system apps randomly stop working or hang requiring reboot. Also full of ads and pesters for email, phone number etcetera, as well as non-standard Android apps which are hard to replace with Google's. As Xiaomi have not (contrary to the Linux GPL) released the source code for their version of the kernel, developers can't port alternative and better versions of Android than Xiaomi's MIUI. For that reason the Xiaomi Mi 5 or a OnePlus phone would have been a better choice for me.

I have been using this phone for 3 months and I have only one complaint. When you hold it with two hands, you will occasionally accidentally press the home button, which is super annoying. There needs to be at least a very thin bezel below the buttons. I hope they fix it in the next version. Other than that, I think this phone is perfect. Battery life is amazing compared to other flagships + it is 2x cheaper. I strongly recommend getting this over an iphone or a samsung.

I owned the MI4s. Now, after the glass broke on the two sides (the MI4s is just too slippery without covers), I got the MI5s. One big drawback of the MI5s compared to the MI4s is the fingerprint sensor. On the MI5s it is on the front, which I find less usefull than on the back. BUT, that new type of fp sensor is only working one out of five times, and even if it is, it is extremely slow. I don't know why they changed that from the MI4s where it was working perfectly fine.

Dear Friends, Don't be worried about its rear camera bcz of 12MP. May be you skipped that it has 1.55µm pixel size which will give you far better picture quality than Mi5 (1.12µm). Camera & Video quality of 5s just mind blowing bcz of its sensor size. For low light condition Mi5 is still surviving but i can bet that Mi5s will not disappoint you.. I just bought mi5s yesterday, its fine at first use, but i found the camera had a problem with dynamic range and very slow on focusing, it produce false colour everytime i take outdoor pict, but indoor is good even still have disturbing noise in the corner. The performance on antutu test is amazing but in real use sometimes it lagging especially while in multitasking, first i hope mi5s can run super HD game like vain glory well, but it keep losing fps and drop fps happen here and there. Unfortunately, mi5s dont have external memory cards slot. Overall, mi5s is good smartphone although it cant beat real use like competitor with SoC below it. But in this amazingly cheap price, everybody shouldnt complain.

One week use. There're some issue with Global ROM (8.0.3 MIGDI), but overall it's fine, just minor fouls. Not bad design, Solid body. Great performance (thanks for SoC). Great rear n front camera. EIS or OIS not the problem, the important is result, just check camera review on youtube, there're quitely fair comparation with sgs7edge or with other flagship. But however, my main reason to buy mi5s, is the PRICE. :D

I am from Myanmar and my MI5s 4GB ram model has camera problem. I doubted when i open its camera. The screen blurred as if it couldn't be in autofocus mode, especially aiming to distant object. It doesn't off-focus while aiming near objects for example, my finger. But I can take the distant object photo after waiting for 5-6seconds. Why? I am using miui 8 china.

China ROMs are only english and china there is also no Google aps and Play store (you have to download it yourself and without chines its sometimes pain in the ass but it can be done - I manged to do it so can you, there are some youtube videos that show you how to write gogle aps in chinese ;)) Some chinese ROMs are newer. For example I use China stable on my MiPad since there is no miui 8 on global ROM.

Its safer to do the first update from original xiaomi rom to make sure seller didnt ad anything. Then you can update just like regular android over wifi and you will get notification about the update if you want to perform it.

I used TWERP method back in the day when I had OnePlus one and I wanted to install newly launched oxygen OS, but I went back to CyanogenMod after only few days. After that whenever I wanted to flash my phone, I needed to look for TWERP instructions which were quite easy. Just put ROM files on phone or sideload via PC using ADB, clear delvik cache, internal files if you want after the flash. But nowadays I really like the fastboot method, mainly because I don't want to install TWERP recovery software which replaces system default recovery software. I had difficulty removing the TWERP recovery software and to do so I had to flash via fastboot method. Since then I am using fastboot method. You can go for either method if you are sure you can do it.

If you choose fastboot method, you can choose to lock the bootloader after the flash by just ticking a check box . Unlocking is easy as you can get the permission within a day if you can justify the reason. Going to official ROM from un official is a valid enough reason.

Hi warrior, Since you are on 8.0.10.0.0 from AliExpress, you are on completely different channel of ROM and I doubt AliExpress will release any updates on that channel. For a device to receive official updates it must be on the official channel. The official ROM channel releases updates. Here channel term is used for analogy. I suggest you install latest official ROM from MIUI forum following instructions given there for corresponding method you want to choose. Since you want to go to official from un official, I recommend fastboot method as it will do a clean install. Also, I haven't personally found any problem with AliExpress ROM or find it risky..But if you can help it why not go for official.

You should read it in detail here Also, a very detailed step by step instruction manual is available at the download section for each ROM flash method. In short, System Updates are usually small in size where you put them in a particular folder on phone, point to it and restart. Done! Recovery update is another popular method where you install a recovery software, either a third party like TWERP or use system's own recovery software. With this method you can choose to only flash the OS partition and save your data. Your files and media will be safe. Fastboot method is used when you want a clean install of a ROM. This can erase everything and help install other compatible ROMs. Moreover if you don't know how to begin, you should follow the instructions as there are so many available on MIUI forum. My personal suggestions: if you want to install an official MIUI from fake/preinstalled custom ROM from online resellers choose the fastboot method. Also, easy way to tell fakes from original is : official MIUI has version like 8.0.18.0 while unofficial/fake have 8.0.18.0.0. Notice the number of dots in its ROM version. Also, you can always search for latest version at official site. Current latest version is 8.0.18.0 so obviously any ROM starting 8.1.x.x is fake/custom. There are risks of using such ROMs as they might have malware inbuilt to steal private data. My personal MI5S bought from AliExpress came with 8.0.10.0.0 global ROM version which was custom ROM from AliExpress. Hope this answers some of your questions.

If you want a quick charger,you need to makesure your phone is standby no need to shut down. If shutdown it will be a normal charge. I have try it once. My phone can standby with 5% with 3 hours. Im sure you dont have to wait untill shutdown

Im sorry i dont buy the Mi5 so i cant give you any review. Before this i didnt buy the Mi5 is only because it doesnt have 4gb ram. Mi5S changes that was noticeable and well appreciated in comparison to Mi5. 1. Camera :) awesome new sensor 2. Better and faster charging than Mi5. I had previously Mi5 which took hour and half on average. Mi5S charges 40% in 15 minutes and 100 % in 50 to 60 minutes. I have been using it for 2 weeks now. Battery back up is 1 full day ranging from 20 to 30 hours depending on usage/games/video/web browsing. 3. screen is same and display doesn't feel any different but my 128GB&4GB variant supports 3D touch. 4. phone gets warm a little..highest temperature I have noticed is 42 C. average is 33 C 5. speaker sound is average, not very impressive. I would advise against using only with speaker. It doesn't have stereo speakers either. Earphone sound is very good. 6. usage experience is excellent, so far no lagging in phone itself though some apps crashed due to permission restriction. If your weather app or any other apps keep crashing look it up for its permission requirements. That will most likely fix the problem. 7. the volume and power buttons are little loose, but perfectly functional. 8. It takes some time getting used to using the fingerprint unlocking. If you are considering to buy, I recommend $379 at aliexpress for 128GB&4GB variant.

I used Xiaomi mi5 64GB black few months back and now I am using mi5S 4GB 128GB silver right now for a week. Here is my opinion about the difference between MI5 and MI5S and whether you should pick one over another: 1.) My MI5S bought from ali express, cheaper than other stores, came with global 8.0.10.0 but that was custom ROM installed by Ali express. you can use it without any trouble. however I can't trust custom roms as there could have backdoor built into them. There is no official global ROM but only China Developer and China Stable ROM available for MI5S, on other hand MI5 has Global stable ROM for few months now. But this shouldn't bother you much after making few changes. a) Without the need to roting the device, or unlocking the bootloader you can install google installer for miui8 from internet. That will install gogle play store. then you can install all your apps from your gmail account. put all chinese character apps into a folder, install english keyboard and other most common apps. You will be good to go. b)Should you decide to install different ROM, go see tutorials made in details for that. use china stable ROM instead of china developer rom, because stable ROM is with less bugs and won't ask you every other day of week to upgrade the incremental MIUI8 version. like if you are on 8.0.17.0, in few days you will get 8.0.18.0, then again, 8.0.20.0 and so on. China stable is pretty stable. 2) Camera is simply amazig in the MI5S. My roommate has oneplus 3 and we keep comparing our phones. MI5 wasn't as good as oneplus 3 but MI5S has turned the tables. With new and bigger sony sensor..the quality is simply fantastic. 3)3D touch available on my 4GB 128 GB variant is a great add on, haven't needed to use it but its there. Its like right click context menu for certain apps like messages, notes, etc. 4) Ultrasonic Fingerprint: at first I was worried that the unlocking speed and acuracy wasn't even close to MI5 but after properly placing my fingers over it, I got used to it. 5) 4GB ram is enough. 2.3 gb ram is left free after system use which is enough for good gaming and multitasking experience. 6) you wouldn't believe how similar it feels like MI5 in weight and hand holding aspect, but yet there is pleasant distinction due to its metallic build. 7)only downside I have felt is that it doesn't have a gorilla glass protection as MI5 and as of yet, no such screen protection or case is easily available in market. I hope you make good decision. I personally found it worth the upgrade.

Im using Redone in Kota Bharu, Kelantan and this phone support 4G. And about the battery life is totally awesome when i have about 5% left it can standby more than 2hours wihout open data or wifi. Its also has quick charger that can charge about 30mins for 80% and that helped me very much because im a little bit busy person and dont have much time to waste. When its 100% its cant stand up to 12 hours with data open 24hours. I have received the phone with Global Stable and already MIUI8 with great feature like can scroll the screenshot full page. The most i love using this phone is the display,its only 5.2" display so this phone is not too large also not too small. This is my first review to help others choose a great phone. I have gave up after i used Mi4 32gb 3gb ram last 2 years with unstable MIUI6 and too much lags with much nonsense ads,but this phone give me an opportunity to believe once again on Xiaomi brand. That's not true. Basically, every glass has the same level of hardness (look at JerryRigEverything youtube). So it doesn't really matter if it's gorilla glass or not - it won't scratch easily and if it will, same would have happen on gorilla glass. Just like my old Redmi 3S (no gorilla glass): never used any screen protector and not a single scratch. Don't get paranoid with all this "gorilla" stuff as it is mainly marketing. cheers

MI5S has bigger camera sensor 1/2.3", 1.55µm compared to mi5 or even to galaxy s7 which only has 1/2.5" 1.45µm. Bigger sensor means it can attract more light even in a darker situation so there is no need to be stabilized by the OIS to get good picture.

I've had this phone for 3 weeks. Best phone I've ever had. Camera quality much better than iPhone 6s (its the only phone I compared it with) and battery life is amazing. I usually have 40% or 30% left at the end of the day, but whats even better is quickcharging, and I swear this thing charges ridiculously fast (40% in 15min, even more if phone is turned off). No lags whatsoever in any game or daily use. Only cons for me are that you need to get used to the fingerprint scanner, as at first it may seem it fails to read your fingerprint, but if you place your finger correctly you will find no problem at all. Mi5s all the way, ZUK is nowhere near in terms of camera quality. Camera in my opinion isn't as good as Pixel or S7 in low light, but in good it's among the best and beats IPhone 7 for sure. For what I have seen in the web, it seems to be better than OP3 too. What's more, it still can be improved by better software, what took place in case of Mi5. Mi 5s has a better camera.Plus lower resolution,and sharper pictures from the Mi 5s.Nobody wants a large,overexposed noisy picture like the Mi5 produces.Also in low light conditions mi5s beats mi5 by far.The only thing mi5s lacks is an OIS.

masum, camera in Mi5s, especially in good light conditions is way better than in Mi5. I had both and the only thing helping Mi5 is high resolution (16Mpix). Aside from that, Mi5S can take photos (in good light) almost as good as my SLR camera.

PART 02 Choosing between iPhone7+ and Mi note2, depends on my usage. If I am to choose for personal usage, I will go for iPhone.its more secure next to BBOS. I currently have Blackberry for my personal correspondence,limited to my immediate family. If I was to choose a workhorse,Mi Note 2 will be obvious choice. Assuming as above, I would personally prefer Mi Note 2 reasons are as below: - it's more decent in terms of looks and has AMOLED screen. - performance wise both have same SoC. so I am not worried. - I believe camera and photography are more better with a dedicated camera.so I am not much worried about cameras. And Xiaomi gives decent pics that serves my purpose. Regarding dual setup of cam, to be honest, I am myself trying to assess the concept.So I cannot comment right away on that.

Honestly, ZTE Axon 7 does look great and I would have chosen it, but it is not easily available in my country and the fact that the keys don't light up puts me off. It will be difficult to use it in the dark. Other than that, it seems like a great phone and comes with earphones and expandable storage, which other smartphone manufacturers tend to dismiss

PART-02 To sum up, I will recommend Moto Z play first, next will be Mi5s and last One+3. There are other capable devices from past generation like Nexus siblings,Moto X pure,One+X,LG G4.But now they are a year old and will get only a year more of updates support. I have totally eliminated following capable devices: Apple iPhone ( too pricey), Blackberry ( nearly dead ) Lumia premium range ( Microsoft pulling the plug for surface generation), SONY Xperia (too pricey), Pixels( too pricey),HTC10 ( Too pricey) I consider photography and multimedia usage as secondary functions on a phone. I would prefer a professional camera,ipods and gaming consoles for the premium experience of them. A phone's primary function is calls,messages,emails,conferences,web browsing, being connected and productive while on move ( or away from your work desk), without any delay. PART-01 I prefer Motorola first in Android realm.they have near stock Android and well managed RAM.always quick on updates. Z play is a premium offer and G4+ is mid range offer. Z play uses AMOLED screen and better processor.its well suited for those who are above average users and want good looks. If looks are not a priority and if you know how to use mid range phone to fulfill your productivity, Moto G4+ is for you. But it lacks compass feature,if it is important to you. One+3 is a good offer with SD 820 and 6gb ram.offers AMOLED screen.all those for an affordable price tag.but somehow ,I am never pleased by their software experience, specially after CM fiasco and not so good battery life. Other thing is their hidden policy of deliberate stock shortage and not so good ram management.currently they are in process of refresh stage of One+3.But overall it's better than Samsung. Xiaomi has always been one of my preferred Chinese brand. they never create hype and yet deliver great performer.MIUI is modified android,but is light and devices have good ram management.Battery life is always decent.They take time to deliver updates,but I personally never felt urgency or need of frequent updates.Mi5,Mi5s siblings,note 3 are some of recommended devices.But I would pick Mi5s. Boys, I trully dont understand the negative comments here. I just upgraded from mi5 to mi5s and can confirm that mi5s is tep forward in built quality, design and palm comfort. I had mi5s black edition and whilst is a great phone the ceramic back was a fingerprint magnet. It was also very slippery and imposible to hold in one hand. Beautiful but not functional. The aluminum bezel was coated and extremely prone to scratches. Getting very hot as well. Apart from that good looking and smoothly working. Fingerprint sensor felt outdated and button cluncky. Comparing with above, mi5s is made of high grade alimunim on which you can't see a fingerprint so the phone looks pristine at all times. Dropped the phone few times and I'm yet to spot a scratch on it. And if you are qurious yes I dont use covers. I love looking at this phone. It's a cracker. Furthetmore the aluminum is brushed and doesn't feels slippery. Very comfortably can be operated with single hand. It is beautifully finished abd the aluminum edges nicely flow into the screen giving it a unique unibody feel. The fingerprint sensor is also much more advanced and the button is solid now - a touch button. It is also bigger, easily fitting a fingerprint, no more sliding over the. And finally it comes with MIUI8 and 3D touch. Also has powerful double speakers at the bottom. Both mi5 and mi5s battery kept me running through the day with ease. Pleased with both. Mi5s is by far the best phone Xiaomi had made. It is a very beautifully put together that it can dirrectly compete with apple and samsung. It is indeed world class device

Actually, the battery life for the Mi 5S is not as good as the Mi 5 either despite having a slightly larger capacity battery. Whatever benefits the 5S add, there are sacrifices to make that don't make up for the minor benefits. My advice is to stick with the Mi 5.

The mi5 was a great looking phone, don't understand why they made the 5s thicker and uglier and heavier with very similar specs and just 200 mah of battery more. I don't know where you live, but here LG 5 costs max 20% more than mi 5s. with the addicional waranty and support, from local stores (2 years waranty), since the mi 5s i need to buy it from internet usually with only 1 year). still mi 5s is a great device.

Good. But the fellow whom I replied knows Mi costs 40% less than G5. And paying that additional 40% just for FM tuner and remote control doesn't go down well in his head. But that anger is vented on poor Xiaomi, coz he can't do that on any other flagship I mentioned. Gadgets ( like dressing sense) one carries reflects the personality of the owner. Flagship owners belong to a league who are more interested in productivity features and top notch performance rather than worrying about FM tuner and remote control. If it's included it's good, but need not be mandatory. Blackberry were pure business gadgets. It never really needed FM or IR. It may be on decline, but it is still a preferred device for most of professionals. Only those who don't know it's productivity, criticises.

I agree with you. Oneplus 3 has those issues but also few more. On amazon the latest 1 star comments mostly say that there screen glass broke easily, even with hard glass screen protectors. On top of that the new amazon return policy is a hassal. U wont be able to return it to them even in guarantee period. I personally am waiting for mi5s to launch in my country india. Although it has camera and other issues too. But atleast if i get a working nondefective piece, its screen wont break easily and cost me 1/3 of its actual price.

Yes, both phones uses the imx378, but they may not produces the same result. Its all depend on the company's engineers who can produce a better algorithms. And my guess is HTC has better history in producing good camera...

There are some Chinese ROM out there but it's not worth-ed to get the phone with Chinese stuff inside. Oneplus 3 seems to be perfect. I see many people choose the OnePlus 3 over the Xiaomi mi 5s...and I'm a little worried because the OnePlus 3 has been known to have not so great battery life and call quality issues. Don't quote me on this. When I compare the Xiaomi mi5s to OnePlus 3, it feels like the OnePlus 3 should be better but it's Xiaomi seems to be doing pretty well. Especially since it has better battery capacity and would likely hold more power and there seems to be no issues with call quality, im addition to the fact that it's out with the Snapdragon 821. All of this seems to triumph over the OnePlus 3. But there seem to be people who actually claim that the OnePlus 3 has no issues to speak of. . . I'm still making my decision because I don't know which one to choose. Can someone help direct me towards a better choice? The Xiaomi mi 5s seems to be the one to go for, but the problem lies with the fact that they aren't available, internationally, from Xiaomi themselves.

B don't wanna mislead you by pointing out a shop. It seems like they are all typical Chi.e.e i can only share my experiences. So my second experiance is with geekbuying where i bought redmi note 3. I didnt deal with the customer service because the phone was OK. They also did a good job with the customs if you know what i mean. The only downside was- i paid for the international global rom version, but i got a chinese ROM (without OTA updates). I was annoyed but i didnt complain because i knew nothing to do about it. Gearbest looks promising but i havent buy anything from therea My only suggestion to you is do not pay extra money for a chinese phone so look for the best price and pay attention to the terms&conditions.

Buying from Chinese is always dangerous. The resim note 3 I bought from an Chinese site was supposed to be with the global ROM and so OTA updates, but it arrived with the Chinese one. You pay for something you get different.. but I didn't complaint or return it because first of all you can't afford the shipping costs yourself and secondly at least it was working phone unlike the le max 2 which I did buy just before that from another store. Now you guys don't even wether mi5s has Global ROM and OTA updates or not. No matter how good mi5 is my Nexus is about to get NOUGAT 7.1 and is snappy as hell. The only reason I keep eye on Chinese is their battery capacities and latest CPU's. But software wide they suck as b.ach.s

Awfull customer service . Awfull after sale support. In my experience they didn't admit the mic issues I had with leeco let max 2 which everyone around me have witnessed. I paid very expensive shipping costs. I had long disputes till I return it (near 2 months) with people who struggle to understand English (you are saying something, they get another whatever they want). Of course, Pixel and Mi5s only share same sensor. Lenses, stabilization, photo/video capturing software — that's all different. The sensor is considered to be the best at the moment, but you will definetely get different quality pictures from different cameras even if they use same sensor. Mi5s sensor doesn't have OIS (so 4k videos are shaky), microphone sound in videos is very bad atm (maybe it's because of software and will be fixed), and more expensive Pixel will capture videos better. Photos on Mi5s I find to be gorgeous though in good light conditions.

For those interested this uses the IMX378, the same as the Pixel / XL just officially announced. This is Sony's latest mid-range Exmor R sensor. Exmor R is an older tech vs RS that has a stacked sensor which performs a lot better in low light. Early comparisons the Mi5s photos shows very poor low light photos, but very sharp photos when well lit, as expected. There's nothing from Sony comparing the IMX377 (Nexus 6P). I look forward to GSMarena's Mi5s and Google Pixel camera review. Personally I would go with the Ceramic Mi5 or wait for the Mi Note 2 Pro if you have more to spend.

With the Mi Note Pro I just flash via Fastboot with the method I mentioned below below. On newer devices I see to make it simple it needs to be unlocked or a cable is needed. Qualcomm drivers now need to be side loaded via ADB, otherwise the method remains the same: Xiaomi.eu(unofficial global firmware that trims 200mb+ of crap out and includes many languages) you ensure your phone is unlocked then just install the Chinese weekly, enable root, flash twrp for your specific device found on the same weekly page at xiaomi.eu via Flashify with root (just download the apk then install the xiaomi.eu firmware under twrp. You only do that once. After install updates via the updater app when it's available or manually down directly from xiaomi.eu and use the "Choose update package" option in the updater app. Also the great thing about this is you don't need to wait around for weeks/months for official global firmware when a new device comes out.

all the new devices after mi 4 or mi note have locked bootloader so in order to flash roms via mi flash you have to boot into edl mode not fastboot mode.plz google on how to get into edl mode for all newer xiaomi phones whose bootloader are locked.and bootloader locked devices internal storage will be wiped when flashing with miflash so you have to back up your data

Well under 23k, i will say definetly zuk z2 plus. Reasons Pros 1) 3500mah with 5 inch 1080p display (lemax2 & mi5 have smaller battery and bigger screens that are hard to handle in your hands, also Lemax2 has QHD Display & it will deplete a lot of power a lot faster) 2) 3.5mm jack (lemax2 doesnt have that) 3) 4gb ram & 64gb storage (xiaomi only has 3gb & 32gb plus there cpu is underclocked) 4) after sale service maybe better cuz lenovo is well established brand in india while xiaomis after sale service is crap (dont know about leecos service) 5) stock android experience and not zui Some Cons too 1) storage is not fast ufc 2.0 but old slower mmc (sorry dont know exactly what both r called) 2) camera quality not so good for the price or so i have heard from users of z2 (though cpu gpu are too good for the price) 3) thicker size than the other 2 phones 4) may or may not have HW support to play HEVC 10bit 1080p videos which other 2 can play with mxplayer (still waiting for users to confirm about this) For now i could only remember about all this. Also i will recommend u to extendyour budget and get oneplus 3. its better than all other 820 soc phones also has fast android updates and patch plus a lot more support for root & custom rom etc from xda community. But if u cant do that than go for z2. I hope it helps. :)

Nope, no pin is required. Fastboot firmware you just plug it into the usb in fastboot mode(hold volume down and power button) and flash it via MiFlash under windows, make sure you tick to do a full wipe. This ensures nothing from the previous firmware interferes. for the MiFlash app and latest firmware. Edit: I see you may need to unlock(I didn't have to). this is actually easy, you can apply now while signed into your Xiaomi account at the the link above, it takes 2 days usually. Once your account has the ability to unlock you can instantly unlock any Xiaomi phone.

Not true. LG G5 with Snapdragon 820 has FM radio and also the Xiaomi mobiles with Snapdragon 430, 650 and 652 has it. A good luck using your streamed radio when there is a power outage, you need information and mobile data is no longer available. But at least you can use your mobile to tell the current time, cause you can't use it for much else. Or using it where there is no coverage, or abroad when roaming etc. Can't believe that so many people are so shortsighted...

Are you sure that Amoled is better than IPS LCD? Have you ever know that OIS is even harmful to Image Quality in good light condition? Mobile camera lens is very slow and hence it is almost useless in shooting moving objects in night. Bigger pixel and faster lens are more efficient than OIS.

Very disappointed on this series of so called upgrade from Mi5, no OIS or EIS from the camera, A slight little bump on battery life when such a powerful choose is being used. Still didn't support up to 24w of fast charging. No 4K display still on the flagship device. MP is not only important but camera lens manufacturing company is also important. Latest and technology-wise resolution-wise Carl Zeiss otherwise hasselblad is better but costing higher than other lenses. Nokia is always uses Carl Zeiss lenses.

Needs much better secondary camera and sensor. Nowadays 3-5MP isn't sufficient especially as the camera sensors used in secondary cams tend to be poor. IMHO

Better keep it as an IPS LCD screen display so that the pictures would look more natural and vivid. Unlike having it as amoled, it would look more vibrant. Then, if you're into photography, it's better to edit pictures since IPS LCD shows accurate colors.

64Gb isn't inf for high end movie's, gaming etc., If we put 2 or 3 4K movies then 64 GB with be inf ....in that the OS also will acquire some memory from 64GB and in that if you install games like asphalt 8 and other games which download extra data then if you dont have SD card then 64 gb wont help .....I think you haven't used your present phone properly you must be casual gamer and if the phone has 4gb of ram and hi end chipset 820 and cpu Quad-core 2.2 GHz & quad-core 1.8 GHz gpu Adreno 530 etc then obviously you would like the use its full power ...if you dont then whats the use of taking such ha high end phone go for some less config one

No external card is available to all flagship Mi phones. Redmi series have it though so if SD card is really crucial for you get the Redmi series phones or other company's phones. As for dual SIM, all flagship Mi phones have that feature :D
