In general I like this phone. Big screen, big battery, hard glass, no problems with range or sound. Own it for 2+ years. But I do have problem with compass, despite many attempts to calibrate. GPS was the reason I own a smartphone at all. Compass was the reason I have bought this particular model. For some orientations of the phone north is correct, for others direction is off by about 30 degrees. Do you have the same problem? Any solution?

I'm using this mobile for 2 years..... And I love it... Only issue is camera using at night time. The pictures wont be good. But at the day light. Damn!... so good. Everybody was asking me like, that how am I handling a big mobile. But honestly I fell in love with this mobile. Once u started to use above 6" mobiles. will not like to use smaller sizes. Good luck. PUBG works great. So does minecraft, gtaa all versions and all the games i've tried. Even the ultra heavy ones. Great phone for this low price. I would get this one instead ot MAX2 aor MAX3. It's cheaper. I've had it since 2016 and it's still working fine. Just slap NOVA Launcher on it and you are gold. So much phone for the money!

Compare the height from Xiaomi mi max to Samsung Galaxy fold, the galaxy fold are only 160.9mm on 7.3 inch which are far lower than a mi max (mi max height: 173.1mm) Even Huawei mediapad X2 with short ratio and small bezel are far higher than galaxy fold. Mi max, 173mm are only 6.4 inch 16:9 with small bezel. But once galaxy fold, it gonna be joke... Only 161mm in 7.3 inch 3:2 with even smaller bezel. Are we sure galaxy fold measurement of height are exact correct?

Did you check manually? I already have MIUI 10 running on my Mi Max, got it on Friday after a manual check for updates :-) I didn't get any notification, so I went into settings and surely an update was available. Exactly which date it was made available I don't know.

No offence. I'm not blaming anything. And if you must know, I didn't do anything to damage it. One morning, I was playing a game. And suddenly, it froze. I couldn't do anything. Buttons were not working. So, I forcedly turned off and turned it back on. When it's back, buttons were dead. Some mobiles are not like that. They have separated those two. When those buttons are damaged, it's the human nature that you don't want to replace the whole thing. If you heard that you'd have to replace the whole thing, you feel angry especially the replacement price is high. That is my condition. And also I'm just telling the conditions of this one here. If someone like me wants to buy this one and when it's damaged like this and feel regret for buying, they can avoid because of my review. That's my intention. I'm not attacking Xiaomi or whatsoever. You are implying these damage and defect will happen to all Android smartphone, almost all has navigation button attached to the touchscreen. I don't know how you damage it, but it is not a common issue. Capacitive touch screen button are actually very durable, and also more sensitive than physical button. Yes, if damaged, need to get the screen replaced, almost every smartphone made from these years are like that, you seemingly just blame this is a kind of design issue, when broken, you need to replace the touchscreen.

It seems like a great mobile but it's weakness is that the navigation buttons (back, home, menu keys) are attached with display which means, if one of those damaged, you'll have to replace the whole plate. The cost for it isn't that cheap. (I know this because I'm now facing this problem. All those three navigation buttons are damaged and I went to service centre and they told me that I'd have to replace display. The cost for it is not that cheap. So, I chose not to replace it and use the quick ball function instead of navigation buttons.) I only use this one for 2 years and now, it's damaged. So, I'm so sorry to say that I don't recommend to buy this mobile.

I would say the soon to be launched Mi Max 3 is the best among the 2, more powerful than Mi Max 1 and Mi Max 2. Screen wise, I would say it is watchable on this price tag, but not very vibrant. For the ppi thing, no need worry, at 6.4" up to 7 inch, full hd still offer very good density, despite on paper is lower than 2k screen, and other smaller full hd screen, but you still can't see single pixel. 6.4" full hd simply is outstanding for watching video. Then, your BDRIPs that larger than 4GB won't be able to stored on micro sd as all Xiaomi phone only can read FAT32 formatted micro sd card. For the dual band thing, no need worry, even the single band is more than enough. The limitation is on WiFi itself, even using 5Ghz WiFi AC at 433mbps or 866mbps, the high quality video streaming still will slow down and end up in buffering. WiFi simply is not suitable for high speed local network usage. Other than that, Mi Max are quite a good device to go, if you appreciate it's big screen, suggest wait for Mi Max 3.

To my very surprise, it only perform bad in low light photo, which even high end phone also struggle to get good picture. So, in good light, it actually capture very good picture. For low light, better turn on it's LED flash. Still, it's phone came out very noisy on low light. Much of it I blame to the camera software where it fail on post-processing rather than the camera itself. Otherwise, don't expect much from a smartphone camera, they won't even similar capable as the cheapest DSLR, smartphone camera are for social network quality, that's it.

1. Yes max 1 had sd 650 mean is more faster than sd 625 but more battery hunger than sd625. 2. Screen ratio 18:9 is a bit taller but not su much different with 16:9. I dont know about dual band

Is dual band in Max1 important? and then there's the BASEmark scores. Please if you could break this down for me or even provide a good alternative.Personaly I reallllly like the Zenfone3 Ultra but don't need that pricetag. Thank you for helping a NON smartphone guy.

Hey guys- I dont have this particular phone but a Galaxy S5 from NY, it too occasionally crashes apps. On youtube I found that it "may be" due to overextending RAM. I think it's just bugs in software. 2 apps always for me are VLC and Banking app. MYJIO app also freezes up.

The reason for company to put S625 is to save money - its cheper processor. They have to put something new to justify calling it a new model. Then they market it as more modern cpu that saves energy - yes its basically only advantage of S625, and they also put bigger battery to mask that difference in battery endurance is negligable - even with 10% bigger battery phone managed to get just 15% longer battery life. Most energy is used by screen on phone this size anyway, and battery life was already great on Max. Bigger battery on Max 2 made the phone even more clunky and heavy which is last thing this phone needed. Screen is the same. Speaker on Max is very good, dont know how is it on Max 2. Camera on Max is very good, dont know if its better on Max 2. So basically Max 2 seems like a downgrade just to save little money to manufacturer. Bad tactics.

It's the same build quality and the exactly the same Tianma display. The main difference is the SoC which is 33% slower (both CPU and GPU) on Max 2 vs Max all do S625 is 14nm FinFET and Mi Max 2 has a bigger battery the SoT isn't all that much better, around 15%. Aesthetically & regarding performance the first generation is better.

From day to day usage, performance differences would be negligible between the 2. However, hardware wise, Mi Max 2 build quality (all aluminum back), screen(brighter, greater sunlight visibility), speaker (stereo, much louder) , camera (a bit better in low light), battery life (much longer with larger battery capacity, and also 14nm power saving SD625 processor, despite the lower performance A53 core) all are better than Mi Max Prime. Mi Max 2 also comes with USB type-C, fast charging adapter is included right out of the box, more network band support, can be used at more country internationally. It is like this, for existing Mi Max/Prime user, there is no need for an upgrade. Original Mi Max still served well after MIUI 9 updates (feel much faster than before). But for new user, Mi Max 2 would be much more recommended, as it is much better equipped.

It is what it is. A Cortex A72 is 73% faster in integer tasks than A53 clock per clock. So in heavy tasks old S650 - 652 have an uper hand of 50% this especially fells in Chromium and similar. Like everything else it comes with a price as A72 uses 3x more power than A53 but it's not a prime driver on Big.little SoC's but more of a fast jump in, do the job and get out. So the power consumption difference is actually lot smaller. On the other end the A510 GPU is also 50% faster, sustainable 30~40%. So the Mi Max 2 is actually a downgrade regarding not only performance but also visual appearance compared to the first generation (same display, ugly baseless [because users bricked it a lot without those on first Mi Max). At the end it's possible to retain performance advantage when needed, rise user experience and extend battery life beyond anything Xiaomi very achieved with Max 2 on Mi Max with clever thinking & I am not talking about MiUI of course. Check over at XDA (unofficial LineageOS for Mi Max from nijel8 & ZolaIII [which is my self] along with power/performance optimisations which is I alone).

Well, this is because previously there are comparison by Youtuber and reviewer saying that Mi Max 2 day to day performance is much faster than original Mi Max (there are video on Youtube). They comments on overall user experience from UI fluidity, apps launching speed, multitasking, which saying Mi Max 2 beats original Mi Max. However, their comparison is made with Mi Max 2 running the latest MIUI 9, while the original Mi Max is running MIUI 8. Now the original Mi Max is upgraded to MIUI 9, which I can feel the speed of MIUI 9 is much faster than MIUI 8. So, I would concluded that, with MIUI 9, original Mi Max should be as fast as Mi Max 2. Now, there is much less reason for original Mi Max user to upgrade to Mi Max 2, simply the performance is almost the same now. Still, key area still different is Mi Max 2 offer longer battery life, better speaker, better camera, better screen, but it is not a night and day different.

Well, maybe now I am at winter region, or at a environment which has air condition, simply the charging heat is negligible (Phone feel no overheat at all on normal using). I am using the phone with transparent TPU case only, which also not feeling very hot while charge with QC 2.0 or QC 3.0. But, I can feel the adapter is very hot, but not the phone. I also using an OEM charging cable (Pineng) for QC charging.

Thanks for the tip! I always switch on Airplane mode and leave the phone on stand-by while charging. I can be patient enough for the games later. Also, I noticed that when using QC charger, the charger head itself gets quite hot to touch (aside from the warm phone). Whilst using my Samsung charger, it does heat up but not much as QC. I guess that's the reason I prefer the normal charger most days, unless I need a quick boost to my phone's juices.

Yes, it is safe to charge with QC charger. The reason QC 2.0 is a bit faster is because QC 2.0 charge at 9V/2A;18W, maximum voltage of QC. Then QC 3.0 charge at around 7V/2A/14W(negotiated voltage) ; a bit lower power than QC 2.0. I have both the OEM QC 2.0 and QC 3.0 charger, used for half years, both are safe to use. I feel the phone is warm while charging, but is acceptable warm (much cooler than my old Samsung). But please, don't play heavy game while charging.

I wonder if you own both Mi Maxes (I and 2) , updated to the latest firmware, in order to validate your comment that "Mi Max should be" better than Mi Max 2. People always assume that having a higher grade of processor i.e Qualcomm SnapDragon 650/652 (in Mi Max) is superior. But if you consider the other facts, longevity, RAM management and power consumption efficiency, just to name a few) it might not be so. I am no tech-junkie here, so I can't provide the specifics. Just like to say that Mi Max 2 is a comparable upgrade against its predecessor, even if the perceived 'downgrade' of processor to Qualcomm SnapDragon 625. Think about it, it makes no sense for a company to launch the second generation of a phone that received favourable reviews with a 'inferior' processor unless they want to kill themselves off the commercial market! They could've put in the same processor, but they have reasons not to! Then again, I don't own one Mi Max. Hi! I would like to ask why QC 3.0 takes a 20 minutes longer charge time compared to QC 2.0? Also, does it apply to the next gen Mi Max 2? I'm using Mi Max 2 4GB/128GB with MIUI Global 9.0 I 9.0.3.0(NDDMIEI) version. I know my bundle has the QC 3.0 included but I don't use it often as I feel my charging phone gets heated considerably. After updated MIUI 9, this phone should has better performance than Mi Max 2, provided camera is a bit inferior, and speaker performance. Otherwise, this one should be faster than Mi Max 2. With Qualcomm 3.0 fast charge support, then 4G+ support (tested with 4G+ network). All you need for a cheap and big screen phone, with big battery to match (true full day heavy usage). The phone also is very slim. This is all you want with a phone without a good night shot camera in a quarter price of high end phone.

QC 3.0 takes about 2 hours 30 minutes, QC 2.0 charging takes around 2 hours 10 minutes. Normal charger takes around 3 hours. All these are checked with MIUI 9, tested with the same OEM cable (Pineng), with different charger (OEM too). Do check with other charger and cable. Cable itself can be a cause of slow charging too, where the cable maybe damaged in long time usage. The proper way to judge the slow charging is using a voltage/amp charging meter to measure the voltage and amp used for charging through particular charger and cable. Normally, the cable is the culprit of slow charging.

I not yet properly measure the SOT. But judging from my usage pattern, FB, chatting, web browsing, Youtube, heavy usage lasted more than 1 days without issue (left around 30% around 10pm). In a more typical way, the battery life just behave like MIUI 8, with 4G, WiFi, Bluetooth (with Android Wear connect) turn on all day. The more common feel is, I never need to charge in single day usage, even on the heaviest usage, including gaming. I'm using QC 3.0 charger.

After updated to MIUI 9, everything feel extremely fast. Almost everything is optimised. The UI, fluidness, speed, all are much faster than before. Quick charging now has much proper indicator, can view it on lock screen. Split screen works as expected, integrated into the multitask Windows. Multitask Windows now not showing the RAM being used and left, however the RAM usage has been optimised. Battery life is extremely good as before. Camera bugs is fixed, where much less refocus after the camera lock on a focus point. Home screen icon is polished, home screen icon and text size is shrinked a bit, look neater. All in all, great updates from Xiaomi. This is definitely the most anticipated update you have been waiting for. It is still Android 7.0 though, not 7.1 or 8.0.

It's is an option available since Android 6.0 of MIUI. Mi Max is launched with Android 6.0, so that option is available from begin. Before that, on Android 5.0 of MIUI, the phone by default auto enable the MTP mode (Media Device), which allows file transfer by default if connect USB to computer (when click into the phone icon in computer, you can see the storage icon of the phone, appear like an U-Disk function) Of course, only work on Window 7/8/10 (Window XP got issue with these).

Using any data cable will able to transfer file from computer to phone, or from phone to computer. Preferred Windows 7 and above, as Android 6.0/Android 7.0 only detectable by Windows 7/8/8.1/10 properly. After the computer detect the phone, tap at phone to select "Transfer File" option instead of charging to enable file transfer.

As many people are reporting having charging problem, mine has no charging issue. Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0 works as expected with any compatible QC charger. I got 3 units myself, 1 traveler charger with QC3.0, 1 traveler charger with QC2.0, and 1 car charger with QC3.0, all add up just around $5 dollar per charger, so much cheaper than other quick charger from other brand (OPPO VOOC, Oneplus Dash Charge, then the overprice Huawei Super Charger), and Qualcomm QC charger are so much easier and common to be found, regardless of charger brand. On original Android 6.0, quick charge is not notified detected by the phone when QC charger is plugged,but it indeed do perform quick charge. After Android 7.0 updates, the QC charger is notified with a white circle around the thunder symbol indicating Quick Charger detected. The phone itself is very smooth, Wi-Fi, 4G, calling, using apps and play games, all are very smooth and fast, no issue here. Whenever feeling lag or slow, it is mostly the apps issue itself, particularly Facebook app is the culprit. The camera also affect the lag when I want to view the recently captured picture. Then, a bit lag when viewing content on Micro SD card, but this is expected as I store many picture in the Micro SD card, which take times to load. Otherwise, it is always smooth and fast, apps launching is in milliseconds speed, you must lock those chatting apps to prevent the MIUI close the apps when not use in long time to get instant incoming message and notification. The camera is very good per it's asking price, very good on day light, only become bad on low light. Front camera captured satisfied picture by turning off beautification function. All in all, this is one of the best extra big screen phone out there, with big battery, adequate processor, beautiful screen, and slim profile. It can be used as mini tablet, with cellular internet and voice call. A true all in one phablet with very affordable price to match. It is not super high end, won't outperform those high end, but affordable and reliable.

This mobile support Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0. However, the original charger come with the box is not Qualcomm QC 3.0, just a normal 5V/2A charger. You need to buy extra Qualcomm QC 3.0 charger separately. I have tested, any compatible Qualcomm QC2.0/3.0 charger can fast charge this mobile.

Updated to Global MIUI 8.5.1.0 Android 7.0 for around 1 and half month, no problem so far. 32GB version, SD650. All apps run without issue. The IR remote function ok, OTG works, 4G fast connection, battery life is better, fast charging now has shown in notification when fast charger is plug in. When fully charged, notification light is off. Camera also seems become better. All in all, it is a beast. Large beautiful screen, thin, metal back. Simply is a monster on it's own.

Compare to my previous phone with SD810, SD801, SD800, SD600, and Mediatek Helio X10, this phone is much less heated, probably only 40 Celsius max on heavy graphic games like Asphalt 8, Real Racing 3, Modern Combat 5, Need For Speed No Limit, GT Racing 2, N.O.V.A 3, and those games run smoothly without any throttling down by reducing the processor and graphic load for reducing overload/heating. It is Corning Gorilla Glass 4. But it doesn't matter, because any phone screen broke if dropped improperly. Don't go and tell the phone is dropped just from very low of the ground, it just break no matter how careful you drop it.

Fun fact aside, the QC 3.0 for this is depend on the condition. With some cable, at certain battery percentage (normally below 80%), I manage to measure up to 8V/2A. Then, when the battery charging capacity reaching 85% or 90%, it will stay at 6.66V/0.75A, this take the longest time to charge from 90% to 100%. Overall, not bad for a Quick Charge, at least won't heat up the phone like crazy. The QC 3.0 works even the phone is turn off for charging. Normally, the measured ampere is higher when phone is turn off, up to 2.2A, so this should means charging when turn off the phone is even faster (normally when phone turn on, ampere stay at around 1.5A).

i owned this mi max 32GB/3G model since a week (or so) after it was launched. i never updated my phone (still on MIUI 7.x.x LOL) yet alone rooting it and till today i had never faced any sort of problem. impressive battery life, almost never lags, good (not great) cameras, nice screen as well. i had used so many budget, midrange and even flagship phones but IMO this is the best phone compared to the price (best value for money). i believes you got a defective unit. ask for an exchange if still under warranty.

Top up on this comment, the no matter is QC 3.0 or QC 2.0, the quick charge actually is not drastically fast, due to the huge battery to fill. Still need at least 2 hour for full 0% to 100% charging.

Yes, Mi Max SD650, 32GB did support Quick Charge 3.0, I have tested myself, but only consume around 6.6V to 7V, cannot reach maximum speed. The quick charge works on the original Mi Max supplied micro usb charging/data cable. Report in this link did say Quick Charge 2.0 adapter can charge faster than QC 3.0, due to reaching 9V 2A charging.

Mi5/Mi5s has the best performance, but it is 5.2", has no memory expansion slot (however, 128GB model can cover that). For more worthy comparison, Mi5s Plus is a much more comparable phone with 5.7" screen, but that is the most expensive. Mi Max performance is at middle, Redmi Note 4X is in the lowest performance, but we shouldn't just compare like this. Think of like this, Mi5/Mi5s/Mi5s Plus has performance equal to Oneplus 3/3T, on par with Samsung Galaxy S7/S7 Edge. Mi Max has performance almost equal to Oneplus 2, on par with Samsung Galaxy S6/Note 5. Redmi Note 4X has performance a little faster than Oneplus One, on par with Samsung Galaxy Note 4/S5. So, Redmi Note 4/4X with SD625 isn't that slow either, it is just not the fastest phone by year 2016/2017, but confirm as powerful as those high end phone from year 2014.

Along with Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 Snapdragon, both are the best phone at budget price. Price different between the 2 are not much different, I like both. However, on Mi Max, you get Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0, Corning Gorilla Glass 4, Double Tap To Wake, thinner, bigger battery, cleaner audio output. On Redmi Note 3, you get better screen with better brightness, contrast and viewing angle, louder speaker, lighter, smaller, more manageable with one hand. All in all, both are equally impressive, both are on Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow, suitable for daily heavy use, great battery life, no overheat even on high end gaming. Camera only perform bad on low light, otherwise, quite on par with other high end phone with bright light shoot, no OIS, so has to hold steady to capture photo. Used both for 1 year, highly impressive phone with less headache. They just works as they should, much more reliable and much less lag, compared to my previous Samsung, ASUS and Acer. Highly recommended, love Xiaomi smartphone quality even though they are on the low end side.

I had a awful experience with this phone, and I couldn't recommend buying it. I have one for two months now, and two weeks ago it reboots itself and remains stuck on Mi logo for hours. Then, I hold the power button to turn off and since then it didn't boot again, only flashing a Mi logo and turning off. Researching the forums, I've tried millions of methods to unbrick it, all unsuccessful. All the ROMs I flash using official Mi software don't work at all, and the same using Qualcomm tools. Since yesterday, it even turns screen on or vibrate when I use hardware keys combinated. I'm personally tech savy, with understanding of electronics (including hardware), and tried to flash a new ROM using test point (opening the device and provoking a short between two circuit points), and, even receiving positive messages from flashing tool, still don't turn on. On the forums, (specially MIUI and XDA), many people relates the same problems. My conclusion: a bad quality ROM chip. I bought mine from AliExpress, and the seller keeps sending automated responses to my emails. XiaoMi global services don't read my emails and answers with suggested procedures that I can't take (once I can't even turn on device). Few customers related good experiences with device, but many more related problems concerning MIUI and/or hardware failures. I never use it as a phone, more like a tablet (browse internet, read magazines and books and occasionally playing games), so, camera quality or signal reception was not an issue. Now, I'm looking for a new phablet, choosing between Zenfone 3 Ultra (excellent, but very expensive) or Huawei Honor Note 8 (less expensive, but I don't know much about build quality).

I just bought Xiaomi mi max a week ago after reading its review in this website. the price in Indonesia is IDR 3.3Mio. overall i love this phone. it's size really comfort for watching and gaming. i dont need to worry on overheating. even i run much apllication, i can't feel overheat on back case such us low-budget phone did. the battery is great, i only need to recharge once a day (if i used fully online). Hey Charles. Xiaomi phones are available in SA on contracts (through Vodacom) and for cash from a host of portals. Visit the official Xiaomi site in SA to see where exactly you can get the phones, or buy it from them directly from there website. Importing phones into SA carries customs & excise and tax etc, when you factor in those cost's & the long delay to get the phone to SA, you end up not paying much more buying the phone in SA. The Mi Max 3gb/32gb is R4700 at Makro & Xiaomi's official site, but its R4399 at Takealot. Also, there is a "Mi Phones site" (www.miphones.co.za/) that sells all the models, but there cost's are similar to what it would cost to bring it into SA yourself except that they've been doing it for a while. Im buying the 3gb/32gb from Takealot myself, don't want to take chances on importing it, not worth the hassle. If I like it, i'll upgrade to the 4gb/128gb one.

The average SOT is around 8~10h currently on mine Mi Max 3\32 after seven plus months of use on last stable global ROM (8.2.5.0). Also now with new better quality cable than a stock one it charges a little faster it takes around 3h to fully recharge with stock charger which is 10~30 min better results. It's more dependent on the firmware updates than anything else, at the beginning with the MiUI 7 whose about the same like today, with 8.1.9.0. whose best 10~12h & with 8.1.3.0 whose worst 6~8h. Phone whose always working fast.

Never crosses 40°C on external back upper right shell (where SoC is) & it rarely throttle down in extensive extreme use, the Prime models are a little more prone to it when all big core's are used. It's far from uncomfortable to hold & use. Most of the time in normal use it will stay under 35° C (so under your body temperature). I did had a problem holding it out door's this winter for longer as it becomes uncomfortable cold.

Nope. Global stable (& every stable for that matter) is still based on Marshmallow currently MiUI 8.2.5, the beta's are based on Nugget & you flash them firstly manually & then you get OTA's for what ever you are on (until you root).

The only downside is the camera which for me is just ok quality, but that doesn't bother me cuz this phone has a good processor, and that's all that matter to me as a gamer. Pics quality is not good if to compare to iPhone pics especially during low light as the shutter speed quite slow and it makes the pics blur sometimes. But it's quite great when in day time and hv sufficient amount of lighting. Overall, the pics quality can't really compare with iPhone's quality .

Phone won't brake if you don't brake it, using mine more than six months without any additional protective glass or cover & it's perfectly fine, no stretch on it. I do cary it in the jacket or front jeans pocket. If you drop it & it lands on display you can kiss it goodbye but that is the same for all newer phones with big screens. MiUI is that what it is and some love it while others hate it. It's not really easiest one for bootloader unlocking and rooting thanks to Xiaomi & their is cuple of good costume ROM's for it at the moment. Camera never whose a better side of it but it will be perfectly fine for good lighting environment photos & it can also be used in not so good light and bad light conditions if you know how to use it, tho it will never be brilliant in those conditions. In the end it depends on your needs & personal affections whether you buy it or not. Regarding value for money with what you get this is still one of the best phones Xiaomi ever made & I suppose anyone ever did for that matter. Warning for anyone who decides to purchase one is that it double checks before that it's running on stable global ROM that isn't any kind modified by resellers.

You need to keep sharpness, contrast into low or lower settings to get better pics. If you set them to normal or high pictures taken will have yellowish flavor. This is not a camera issue but miui rom in all phones have same issue. A software update should fix this.

My Xiaomi mi max is great... Fast and smooth. It doesn't have a lot of incompatibilities with applications. Never run out of battery in a day with heavy use. Rarely hangs or crash. Aside from the fact that my phone doesn't have any software update since I bought it. PS: one time it crashed it didn't show mi in the boot loading screen - it showed Asus during boot!!! I can't replicate it again tho, but wow~

Nope! & it couldn't got it as it doesn't exist. Current global stable MiUI 8.2.1 for Mi Max is based on Android 6. The Mi 5 is the only Xiaomi that actually got Nugget so far (MiUI 8.2.2 first China stable & now & global) but it's still full of bug's.

I've had this phone since November and it is fantastic! The size is just right and I can easily slip it in my pocket. Most apps run very smooth and quickly. There is one app that is hung occasionally, but I think that is the app not the phone. Great 4G speeds in China, I will have to see how the HSDPA data speed is when I return to the US. Hi, I just bought mine a few days ago and i am dissappointed with the battery life. I don't know how you guys did the testing but the battery lasts only 1 day. Since i had it, i've been charging it every day at noon. So it lasts 1 day. But not 2 days. The big screen is what drains the power. And the embedded app that calculates the power consumption doesn't include it. That's why it estimates 2 days and a half after it fully charges. It includes only the apps battery consumption. My oppo R7 plus which has an endurance of 94hours lasted 48 hours. (until a circuit broke on the mother board :)) ) But other than that, i am very pleased with the screen. It's not that huge if you owned a 6'' device before. Even though it's an IPS, the colors are AMOLED like or even better. Which is awesome. The big screen is very nice and emersive for youtube or fb. And it's fast. It's faster than the OPPO r7 Plus. A very obvious example of the improved speed is the fact that on the oppo, the shazam spinning logo had lags when it was searching for music. The Xiaomi doesn't. It runs smoothly. And the camera is a bit pixelated when zooming in. The oppo was better. But since everything goes on facebook and the quality there drops, i guess it's not that bad. Audio quality is ok. And the music player has embedded lyrics playover which is a cute feature.

It's aluminium uni body with top & bottom plastic caps. It isn't very tick nor anything. Heard a horror stories about people getting it bent. Have mine for about 4 months & without any problems, carry it around either in internal jacket or front jeans one. Still without a stretch on it without any protective addon. If you drop it on the hard floors you can probably kiss it goodbye, display will crack but that is useful for any handset over 4.7"(even so called rugged one's), meaning every newer one particularly those with 2.5D glass even thouse with a built quality as a thank like HTC 10 for instance. Whosent bean much complains either regarding USB ports, 3.5mm ones, vibration motors & other usual stuff as the model is now generally one year available. In other words build quality is basically solid if you tend braking similar stuff look elsewhere, we will see what Nokia 3310 remake comes to be in generally they don't make them like that anymore. 😂😂😂

Same experience for me! I believe this came down to the screen having a higher than average gamma setting, resulting in a darker/dimmer screen. I get the same type of eye pain/dizziness when I set my TV's gamma to anything higher than 2.2 (such as 2.4 or 2.6). Some people are more sensitive to it than others. As I didn't want to root the phone to mess with the settings through Xposed, I ended up returning the phone after a week - the eye pain it caused me was just too unbearable. Loved the phone otherwise and I'll definitely miss it's size. I've got a Mate 9 now and it definitely doesn't hurt my eyes. Awesome phone, just wish it was bigger :)

Honor 8 costs twice as much money & display isn't all that better it's also an IPS & certainly not from Samsung, the GPU is nominally better (T880 MP4 @ 900 MHz) bat throttle much more in real extended usage so at the end you actually don't get better performance at all. CPU is a bit faster (2.3GHz vs 1.8GHz), it employs faster NAND and camera is certainly better but it also comes with a much worser battery life. Not to bad for around 400$ but still not so stellar when compared with Mi Max Prime (3/64GB) that costs only 208$.

I've bought Mi Max 3gb/32gb with MIUI Version MIUI GLOBAL 7.3 | STABLE 7.3.15.0.0 (MBCCNDC). I tried to update to MIUI 8 by download the zip file from MIUI and failed to update via MiFlas. It's a very good choice for gaming thanks to its large display along with its big battery backup. Adreno A510 is capable for playing all the games that are currently present on Google play store & most of the games are better optimised for it than MALI GPU's. Played; HIT, Gangsters 4, Xenowerk, Real Racing 3, Asfalt Extreme, Lone Wolf, Pirate's... They all work good.

3 options: 1) Contact manufacturer & ask them to take it in for repair. 2) Contact retailer & see if they'll swap it out for refund/replacement. 3) Take the screen off being careful not to break it or the digitizer underneath (or get a local repair shop to do it). Disconnect the ribbon, then re-attach it. If that doesn't work & you can't send it back under the warranty. Then check ebay, aliexpress etc for a replacement screen with digitizer & swap it over. If that doesn't work, then it could be the motherboard, cpu, gpu that's got a problem. In which case, better to bin it & buy a replacement.

Depends how big you are & how big your pockets are. I can easily put it in jeans front pocket (it will fit there In most cases) but crunching with it there isn't exactly present or easy task. Used for half year, now with global stable MIUI 8, version 8.1.6.0, 32GB, 3GB RAM and SD650 version. No problem so far. Phone feel as fast as first time usage. Only lag a little when update apps in Google Play (after update is downloaded and is in installation process) Almost everything are great on this phone. camera really perform well in good light condition, detail are better than some of the more expensive phone, but lost in low light performance. You need to turn on the HHT low light mode to improve low light camera. Phone is very thin at 7.5mm, build quality of the phone is fantastic, with metal back, plastic top and bottom, and thick 2.5D Gorilla Glass 4 at the front. There is also no NFC, but really not a big deal either. But there is a capable IR blaster included. This is also the only real phone that can last for full day on heavy usage with gaming and continues call, 4G all day, with still around 30% battery at night. No crazy overheating, no call drop, no delay in message (you need to lock those apps that you need to run in background, especially Whatapps, WeChat, Snapchat, Line) Highly recommended for those with tight budget and need a long battery life phone with big 6.44" screen. Even with only 1080p screen, there is no sign off pixelated effect on small text. Instead, I actually see more fine detail with big screen, something that 5", 5.5" 2K screen can't show, as the fine detail has been "zoomed" with big screen (has been put side by side for comparison, big screen with 1080p resolution win) Recommend direct get the prime version 128GB storage, price different actually is not much. And still this phone comes with Micro SD slot when needed, support up to 128GB card as well, but need to format to FAT32 format only became readable. Sandisk is a good choice of Micro SD card. All in all, ultimate phone at a very affordable price, that remain very high quality to be used. Much better than budget brand like Meizu, ZTE, Alcatel and Lenovo.

Is it possible that you have a max with a vendor rom, a non official rom? Then you should read first about how to update, because the bootloader of the newer Xiaomi phones is locked. You have to unlock first before updating! This is why is it very important to buy this phone with the official global rom. Then you get ota updates.

Don't buy this phone once you update the phone it will start hanging, in my case my phone goes automatically OFF and doesn't even start by pressing the power ON button all I have to do connect it to the charger and to press the power ON button so then only my phone start. I just switched from iPhone 7 plus and Note 5 to this and it's amazing. Better than both my previous phones. MiMax feels very premium, MIUI is smooth and friendly. The loudspeaker's volume is not very high but I can live with it. Also, the size isn't that hard to get used to it, but sure, you can't use the phone much with only one hand. 9/10, better than iPhone 7P and Note 5. I hope MiMax 2 will be just as awesome.

Sound quality over the 3.5 mm port is actually above average quality with rather good dynamic range just not much laud in music and video. It's laud enough for music but quality videos really need more (but it's a same story on all smartphones even lot of dedicated smartphones amps don't have enough push). In game's audio output is even to laud. Xiaomi lowered the output lv's for audio & video tough mixer for international ROM's intendedly as their are afraid of lawsuits which is a little retarded as they didn't do the same for games.

i owned an international version of mi max 3/32GB, still on MIUI 7.5 (never updated the MIUI) and after using this phone for a few months this is my overall reviews: 1. battery backup is insanely good! i am a heavy user (intense gaming, online, listening to music etc) and normally i would get approx. 8hrs SOT and 1d 5hrs of battery time. 2. screen is very sharp given its size (6.44") and resolution (1080p). the colour reproduction is not as vivid or "punchy" as those AMOLED screen like Samsung's but still its adequately vivid to me. some people says its too large bla bla bla but it ultimately depends on our preferences. i love this huge display that is not too big like a tablet, still able to put it inside my jeans pocket. 3. no lag, crashing or overheating issues so far. multitasking is a breeze unless if i have around 20 background apps then a SLIGHT lag sometimes is seen. the only negative/downfall of this phone are: 1. camera, both rear and front facing one. it is a late 2016 smartphone, and now coming to 2017 its camera is very AVERAGE, sometimes came out to be a bad camera especially in low light environment where the noise is everywhere! the only "sacrifice" i made prior buying this phone. 2. speaker is mono, and not lound enough to my liking. sound quality is also pretty average. but i can live with this kind of speaker though.

Well their are two types of display used, Tianma R63350 that comes with 80% of them is OK as I described. As the luminance gets higher your eye balls are getting cooked faster no mater which tipe is it. 4K UHD HDR (full spec) LCD's with 1000 nits are the worst (up till now) regarding that.

It is international version lol. Take a look at the language support, Chinese Rom is only Chinese/English. I love when peple tend to re invent hot water. You can fairly easy flash the global rom on China version also...

You don't need a "patch" for camera, you need root access to enable Hal so that Camera 2 api culd work & fird part apps with it (like Open Camera). With it things get better but still far from ideal. Without root I guess you can try with Bacon Camera that is based on Snapdragon Camera (still the best app regarding original Camera API with it it focuses & shots rather fast in pitch black environment producing rather good output, other than that it's nothing special.

They used pretty much the same back lit Leds as anyone else including Amoleds & all do Amoleds are capable going even lower the display on Max is actually capable of going pretty lo on back lights for an LCD. Regarding eyes fatigue even it has a biger display that allows you to use it comfortably from a 35 cm distance which helps along with night mode it's still far from ideal. Unfortunately (in this case) a battery backup is rather huge so it doesn't help when it comes to exaggerating with usage which leads to more fatigue. I had an eye hurt only once but that day I had 12h of SOT, pinning refresh rate of the media (video) to the refresh rate of the panel will also help a little (I use it with Kodi).

I am using my phone 32/3 GB, global ROM for 1 week now: -design: the phone is nicely designed, colleagues at work are asking me what is this phone, it is slim, and elegant. -Display: very nice display, good viewing angles, good color render, amazing for watching videos, playing games and reading books (there is reading more very handy and useful in the dark before sleep, I like it very comfy). -Sound: is loud, Good but not great as it lacks the pure and deep quality of sound (I bought it by 200 USD, so I can not complain) - Battery life: very good battery life, I used the phone intensively (gaming, video, chatting, whats app, Skype...etc) in on day and still 14% remaining before sleep -RAM management: is very good, always 1.4 GB of RAM are free after installing all my apps. if I opened 2 games, video, music player, whatsApp, skype, reader, Ytube, .. about 15 apps in the background, the RAM is still arround 500MB and more. never noticed lag or crash. - storage : you get 25 GB free out of the box right ahead after starting the phone for the first time and finishing setup. I has the advantage of using the SD card as internal memory. -Processor: snapdragon 650, in my mind is the best of processors I used it gives me processing power comparable to SD 801 and I can say SD810 without the heating issue. actually with asphalt 8 and Real racing 3 no heating at all, just felt warm near the camera area but no discomfort at all. - finger print scanner: is fast and reliable but not the fastest (Huawei is the best when it comes to finger print scanners). -Camera: it is OK, getting the job done but should take some care while shooting, if your hands are shaky or did not wait for the focus, the picture will be blurry especially in low or artificial light. colors are generally good. but I should tell that the pictures of the ASUS Zenfone 2 (32/4GB) and the Lenovo Vibe shot (32/3 GB) are better in photo quality. - MIUI: It is really useful and inspiring UI, having capability and smartness of iOS, [up to 80% or more, but this alone is great, considering the price :-)] -Conclusion: it is good phone all around, really more elegant than the redmi note series deserve every Penny I paid for. To be honest 3gb/64gb and 4gb/128gb there is international rom. Go to mui official forum and download and flash it. I am using 3/gb/64gb china but flash to international rom. I had been using for 3 months. No issue at all.

You can definitely buy this phone, but be sure you buy one with the official global rom, not a vendor rom! Most of the time that is the culprit of problems. Ibuygou for instance always sells the official rom, global or China.

I actually realized there is no dilemma on charge time since all phones takes a considerable time to charge. And one time 4hrs charging for at least 2 days use is perfectly fine. I honestly believe this is the best phone in midrange section, especially for big size screen enthusiasts. All features in like the high end versions. I wont get the Snapdragon 821 but I believe Snapdragon 650/652 will serve long years of fun and functionality. If Mi Mix is the high end with excellent reviews, I assume this is its brother in midrange with excellent grade. Well automatic killing of background state when inactive is set to 30 min & thats probably problem you are facing with audio reproduction. You can easily lock the any app in memory (swipe down on task list then tap lock). Even if 3GB of RAM may seam huge it's not but certainly its still enough for usual things. I don't have slowdowns nor RAM management issues even I set Xiaomi RAM optimisation to low (from standard medium) if I had a 4GB model I would completely turn it off.

That's true, security updates felt almost nothing but may accumulates many junks from the upgrade. I won't upgrade unless the ROM is getting sluggish, freeze, annoying error or Nougat available (won't migrate to the first Nougat release, waiting for the third or forth is a better option).

Completely discharge it. Then fully charge when completely powered off or in airplane mode. Then use it and let it run down again. Then fully charge it again then do a full factory reset. Set it up as a new device rather than a restore. I did this with my Samsung Galaxy S5 when I had a similar problem when I got it two years ago. Never had a problem since.

The battery is so easy to replace. YouTube it. The back isn't even glued on. Comes out with a bit of force using a suction cup and a guitar pick. Easy to do. The battery only has one flex cable connection to the motherboard. The battery is the Bm49 which you can get cheaply on eBay or Amazon. It's a big reason I purchased it.

Most important consideration for me was the snapdragon clocked at 1.8 GHz and plenty of ram too. All the reviews I read are very positive really. Plus, if you look at integrated, unibody phones, it's easily the closest with the one plus to having a replaceable battery. The back clicks out with a little effort but is not glued in and there's a fee screws over the battery. Nothing major plus the battery us not even glued down with adhesive either. I am at MiUI 8.1.2 & it's good regarding batter life, compared to the 7.5 it brings some bug fixes, Google play services work much better & they did tune camera and video recording quality (still much can be done regarding it). I am skiing the 8.1.3 completely as it's minor security update & idiots rolled it as a complete ROM. On the Prime models the 8.1.4 is basically the same as 8.1.3 on regular model but they rolled up normal OTA with only updated security components & it's rather small as it should be.

MIUI 8 has a pull-down UI that's close to what I like on Asus's ZenUI. I bought the Global ROM/International version. Hope this helps! p.s. It's really good (sweet spot) value for the money < US$200. Of course, I shopped around. I'd include a link here but I think that's against the posting rules I'm reading below. Btw, I'm already seeing I have another MIUI update! That's not something you find with most value phones.

Just buy it. My personal advice is not to update the MIUI to avoid any problems. Only camera is not good enough. The rest all good. Don't overcharge the battery. No regrets.

Sir i haVe one suggestion see Which sim u r using very less okay Use a match stick and burn it from back side and not much just small so that us main part of sim will remoVe with out damage and paste it on memcard with a cello tape on the free space...okay... Bt plz now tell me smthing is this problem occur in ur phone that when u use mobile network for long time then it automatically slow down and come on 2G etc smthing...

my mi max is still on MIUI7 and recently got an update to MIUI8.1.3 but i am reluctant to upgrade due to: 1)feedbacks of terrible battery performances after updates. 2)instability of the interfaces. 3)heating issues. does anyone had update their mi max to v.8.1.3? how's the feedback?

Hey, It depends on ua choice of screen size...if you r okay with the 6.4" big screen MI MAX is the best option. Moto M is having a new processor helio p15 and a small screen size of 5.5" when compared to MAX. Also if you are going for the Moto M 4gb varient for 18k Its even better for you to choose MI MAX PRIME wid SD652 proc & 4 gb of Ram @20k. For sure the Snapdragon procs are THE BEST. I bought MI Max on Dusshera. Pros - Min 3 Days battery, Screen size amazing, light weight compared to its size, Internal 32 GB expandable, Camera's good. Con's - Speaker could be still loud, Sim 1 + Sim 2 or SD card. Over all recommended.

Depends on what you want in a phone. Camera go for Oppo. Good sound quality go for vivo. Amazing battery life, big screen, lot of community support go for Mi Max. If you love selfie and using camera, I suggest go for Oppo because it really good in camera department. Love watching movie,video go for bigger screen like Mi Max. The battery on Mi Max is absolutely good and better than Oppo F1s and Vivo V5. I don't know much about Vivo V5 but I heard from my friend it has a top notch sound quality and pretty good smartphone. Honestly, it all depends on what you need in a smartphone. Decide what you want. All those 3 smartphone that you mention is good smartphone and can handle all usage without any problems in you daily usage. Each smartphone has its advantage and its own disadvantage compare to other smartphone and you need to decide with advantage benefit you more and if you can live with those disadvantage. I am using a Mi Max phone. Problems seen after updating MIUI- 1) WiFi Hotspot service is not good, sometimes does not connect to PC. The phone is to be rebooted to get connection. 2) Finger Print Sensor does not work smoothly, often requires to go to Pattern Lock to open it.

Hi guys, After updating to 8.1.6.0, I am having multiple issues: 1. The sound is very low while using Headsets ( even after Mi sound enhancer is turned ON) 2. The Theme center is saying "can't connect to the network" even though network is turned ON. 3. One Handed Mode is not functioning/working 4. MI PC Suite(v 3.2.1.3111) cant detect MI Ma Prime ( it says, you need to update your device to use Mi Pc Suite. Update your device before connecting) Please tell me what to do!!!!!!!!

using mimax prime for almost 2 weeks now and its the best mobile I ever had, very good screen with corning gorilla glass 4 protection(i didn't use any screen protector) very good call quality, good speaker, a decent camera(in good lighting its a very good camera, but not so in low light but hey who do frequent pic in the dark?) no problem in signal(4g etc)...

Nope. No heating issues at all on 4G. I have 2 Sims in my MI Max, 1 on 3G and another on 4G and I have no heating issues.
