Samsung Galaxy S5 Active - User Reviews

  • Best phone ever by Samsung phone

  • I have the phone 3 years and the phone work perfect until now!!! No scraches no deffects and nothinhg on it! the phone fell done maybe 1000times and still work great! some times the phone fell down like 4meters on flight and on screen there was nothing even a small scrach! the phone is great!!!

  • Hello there! I'm really sorry about your Samsung Galaxy S5 Active issues, I must insist on telling you that an issue like this is very internal and only a few models would have such an issue. A problem like this could possibly be resolved in hard resetting your device. Please understand that throughout your Actives life spam, if you bought it pre-owned, you have no idea what the previous owner could have put the phone through. However, if brand new, anything that may have happened with you like an accidental drop or submerge in water could be to blame fully!

  • New firmware update today!!!

  • S5 active is trash, I'm using it right now to type this review. After a year of owning this thing the led in the screen stopped flashing yellow, naturally this led me to believe already that my phone had the precursor to Samsung aids, Samsung hiv. After another year the issue finally resolved itself, but now my cpu acts like its trying to swim through molasses. Snap chat constantly crashes my phone, that being the only app the now works. Anything else just freezes on that screen and the phone needs a good hurling to fix it. This unconventional method was, in fact, suggested en masse among the solutions to combat this problem. This phone is durable for a reason.

  • that was a defective battery, the great thing is that it is removable and it's cheap to buy it

  • Pros Removable battery. My first one lasted 3 years until it bloated. New one cost 30e. Physical buttons. Waterproof. (up to 1m for 30min) Software. UI. I have ms launcher installed makes modern. Might some day get custom ROM. I had to put play store auto update to manual cos 2GB of RAM gets filled by samsungs updating bloat. 3.5mm jack. Cons Heats up during demanding tasks. Probably most phones do this so not that bad. 2GB of RAM. Has to reload apps/webpages if multiple apps open. USB micro B port not c. Not a problem really cos usb c is not on most devices/pcs. Android 5. No issues but might be a con for many. Amoled 16m colors new IPS displays rival it with no burn in or other amoled problems. No amoleds for me in the future if IPS is longer lasting and more reliable. I haven't had any problems with durability. Back cover. Charging port area. Plastic feels alot better than glass screen or glass back and does not break/shatter so easily. Might replace in the future for something that atleast has the same properties but with more RAM, energy efficient CPU, more pc windows like capabilities. During release one of the best phones. Now still cos if compared to other phones with removable batteries. This phone has custom ROMs, no competition. Buying something that lacks features and has diminishing returns means being played by abusers. Supporting bad practises will lead to a slippery sloap that is bad for consumers and good for execs.

  • if you wanna a war tank thake this phone...reasons are anti fall damage...water resistant idk... good batery aprox 13h of use ..fast wifi conections better than galaxy s7..and great camera..

  • i have agalaxy s5 active from ATT and i come from cuba where the 3g in this device didnt work and the cuban gprs its super bad..the camera takes good pictures and ist very fall resistant . the battery are in 25% from 100% when i have 5h playing games whithout spopping...and the menu buttom was broken..that fix this promblem with [simple control apk].ist a grat cell...fast wifi conections and bluetood...the a-gps its working on my country....i reallly love this phone but comparing the battery life whit samsung galaxy light t399n that already have too wins the galaxy light..i suppose that wins by screenless...im sorry for my english letters..but im still studiyng english languaje...good day.. :3

  • i have on this..great 16mpx of camera..get great videos playback..im come from cuba the cuban 3g doesnt support and the gprs its very slow...really sloww..batery 30% after 5h playing games continuosly..and its very strong celllphone..only the options buttom had broken..

  • I really love this phone but mine got drop and the video card stop workign and every time I turn my phone on the picture of the phone will move up and down like a carrousel

  • I'm really surprised at the negative reviews on this phone. With a factory fresh battery, the phone could actually make it through the day even using the Google Maps app with display always on and GPS active for a three hour drive. Now that the original battery has gone through over 200 cycles, it can no longer do that, but no problem! Just swap in a freshly charged battery. The RF performance is as good as my prior phone. The camera is great outdoors, mediocre indoors, but still good enough to take photos of electronic equipment being disassembled to aid in reassembly once repairs are complete. The phone "went for a swim" once and has been dropped four feet onto concrete with no damage at all with no protective case. Audio quality on calls is acceptable. I like this phone so much that I bought another one on Ebay to have as a spare should this one ever fail. Needless to say, I'm keeping it until the GSM/HSPA/LTE4 technology is no longer supported by any carrier.

  • This is a decent mid-range phone. I've really had no problems with it other than defective battery which was replaced for free under warranty. People complaining that it's not water-proof. It's not waterproof-it's water RESISTANT. The charger seal works great, I have no idea what these other people complaining about the seal "falling apart" are doing to their phone to cause this, as I can figure that nothing short of carelessness or abuse would cause it to magically come apart. With a cheap silicone headphone-jack seaI/plug added for extra security, my Active has survived enough liquid-relate mishaps to warrant it's worth in my opinion. I've acidentally tipped over a glass of water on mine, had it fall in the sink with the spigot running, and it shrugged it all off with apparently no harm at all. The water got between the silicone case and the phone, but didn't breach the phone itself. The only complaints I might have with my S5Active are, that it does seem to go through battery power too quickly, and after one single OS update, there has not been another in almost a year, while newer models are getting their update attention. Samsung has apparently decided to abandon any future updates for the S5Active, which rather upsets me, as the phone itself will apparently long outlast it's own software.

  • My Samsung galaxy s5 active battery runs down even when I am not using it. Please why.

  • This is by far the worst phone I've ever had. I'm so annoyed that I will likely not buy any Samsung ever again. I've had this phone for a year now. After only 3 weeks of normal usage, the rubber sealing on the charger inlet was broken down enough that one of the selling arguments, water resistance, was likely down the drain (literally, haven't tested it though). One of the worst components is the battery though. After about 2 months, I kept the phone in energy saving mode all the time to make the battery last for half a day, even when not using it too much. When I use google maps in my car, even when I charge it through USB, the battery drops 1% points every 2 minutes (!). Not to mention the load of bloatware that my version came with. A week ago, the phone went dead for no reason in the middle of the night (even though it was charging), causing me to oversleep because I relied on it for my alarm. And the worst part is, since 3 days ago, I cannot even make it run for more than a few seconds because it just keeps switching off - after only one year. Plus, the phone is much uglier than it looks like on the net, but that's just my personal opinion. To be complete, there is one positive thing to mention, which was one of the reasons why I bought it in the first place: The screen is still intact, even though I dropped it a few times. Possibly partly because of the H9 screen protection that I put on, and the rear cover was not equally fall resistant, unfortunately. I've had much, much better phones for much less money. The S5 Active was a total waste of money, I don't understand the generally positive reviews at all (maybe not tested for long enough?), and I don't recommend it to anyone.

  • Signal receive is very poor, both phone and internet, my wife has a very cheap phone that outperforms this s5 active . No text received option battery is just ok but not good

  • HEllo guys, just woke up one day and my samsung s5 active just went blank on me. Cannot access anything on it. I have removed the battery , isolated for days and reinserted but the resulting display has been the same. Can someone help with how to go about this? I need this opinion before I see rip-off phone repairers. Thanks.

  • s8 active now that it is available???

  • Best-Buy (at the Samsung Desk) will update any Samsung Phone for FREE, no matter where it was purchased.

  • I have owned this phone for almost three years, with absolutely 0 issues. Constantly in the outside and weather with no problems. Wonderful Camera, would be nice to have Image Stabilization. Going to update soon with ??. Cant find anything to take its place; G6?, maybe; definitely not the S-8.

  • Consider this both a review of the device and some tips of how to use it effectively. Been using mine for 3 years. waterproofing does not work, made that mistake- had the phone go inactive for a month. it miraculously came back to life after that without a change in performance however, so credit given where credit is due. Without root and serious user optimization, the device is incredibly slow. Stock TouchWiz is ridiculous in that aspect- switching to Nova launcher prime is a much needed upgrade in efficiency. Root is an option with this device- if this path is taken, big gains can be made to performance by freezing all bloatware/unwanted system gimmicks with Titanium Backup's app freezing. Very rugged exterior- does not need a case, unless you are particularly active. The Active button is very handy- Tasker helps take full advantage of it. tl,dr; needs some user-side optimization, but otherwise great phone with usable features, as long as you don't treat it as the waterproof phone it was marketed to be.

  • You mean worse? I suppose I got lucky with mine.

  • This is by far one of the baddest phone ever. The first I got had an internal failure, thanks to warranty I got an another. The second one was so bad manufactured that the display kept on poping out. The phone fell from about 1m onto the ground (wood) and the backcover broke nearby the edges. This is a joke, not a phone. Honestly, when I'm seeing Samsung's advertising concerning "quality control" I am laughing so bad.... "military specs" is stated, but believe me, if the army was to be supplied by these...oh man...

  • The design of the power access waterproof door is terrible. I already wore one out and they made me get another Active with my insurance and pay $125. Poor design and will fail again, all should be recalled, no way I would trust mine near water.

  • This phone is pretty good. The battery performance is normal too.

  • yes i have this phone...this phone performance are better than s5...but i can't update this one in tho another platform...this is so sad for mee

  • lucky... mine just broke

  • I like this phone, but the camera seems worse than the S5. The camera on both sides seems more foggy and washed out compared to the S5. I've owned two of these and they both did the same thing. I have an S5 also and the pictures look pretty good, a little too saturated, but better than the Active. Personally, the Active is good enough because I love the build quality rather than the S5.

  • I have dropped mine so many times, I'm surprised it isn't broken!!!!

  • Did you buy your phone from Best Buy, or did they update it even if you bought your phone somewhere else?

  • I just had this problem fixed recently. I took my Samsung-SM-G870A to Best Buy about a week ago, and the people in the Samsung Experience center there upgraded my software in about 20 minutes. Done. Running Marshmellow 6.0.1 and it runs so much better. Marshmellow is way better.

  • it cracks easy and battery dosent last long

  • Iv owned mine since they were new on the market. And really its the best phone ive ever used. The first thing i did do was to protect it with a "Love Mei" tough case. Very hevey to hold but well protected. I Love My Samsung! Its part of me.

  • No. The active is a ENTIRELY separate phone. You might as well be asking if you can turn a Motorola flip into a iPhone 7.

  • Put an otterbox on it.

  • Hello friends, I have Samsung Galaxy S5 in hand. How could I transform it into Galaxy S5 Active? Is there any method?

  • Don't upgrade to marshmallow, if you can help it. It makes it seriously buggy... I've had issues with the mute button thinking that it wants to have a mind of its own and sometimes when texting the keyboard crashes and disappears altogether. The buttons on the sides are too sensitive. The only way I can keep from pocket dialing or pocket texting is to set the time out down to 30sec and put a pattern lock on it. The added button on top of the volume key is a pain. I've seriously considered going back to the Galaxy S4.

  • I'll kindly plead if a good samaritan will give me detailed info on how to set my back and front camera just to take amazing photos. Tnx

  • I hate this phone now. I've maybe had it almost 2 years and it's been acting like crap the last few months. The bottom of the screen keeps flashing almost all the time and it keeps causing Internet and app issues. I have to restart the phone constantly. I cannot wait until I can get my upgrade. I haven't dropped it much and when I have, no damage was done to it. It just started acting this way like a year after the last time I dropped it.

  • I love my s5 active I drop many times 7times.. but still strong same like a rock.. hehehe rock in roll guys.. love it.. no need case or screen protector.

  • I bought my samsung S5 active and at first, i had trouble setting up my data, due to my service provider, not having the details for my phone. Once that was sorted, i have been happy with how the phone works. Its fast and does everything i want it to. BUT the only problem i have had, is that no shops, seem to sell leather flip wallets or screen protectors. I have had to order some from hong kong on ebay. other than that, i think its a good phone and i only paid £144 (new and in the box)

  • I have used so many phones. I'm currently using s5 active, LG g3 and Avant. I bet you no challenger for the s5 active. Not the S6 active nor the s7 active. The phone is robust, compact and solid. My advice to those complaining is that make sure you do proper checks for ORIGINAL in order not to buy FAKE ones. S5 ACTIVE ALL THE WAY!!!

  • Don't listen to any negative opinions about this phone. This phone is amazing. The battery life is amazing, it's unbelievably rugged, the screen is crisp, the camera in daylight is fantastic. Can you add as much storage as you like, and the battery is removable. Oh and it charges to 100 percent with fast charging ridiculously fast. I would keep this phone forever, what an amazing value and phone. My only issue is slight burn in to the AMOLED screen because of a card-game app that i've played for probably 3000 hours with the brightness turned up. Trust my opinion if you're an educated consumer.

  • I dont know much about mine just got it

  • Turn off your WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS and active backgrounds to conserve battery. I get 2-3 days out of a charge and play a lot of music. Also get a few 9H glass screen protectors this will save your screen from breaking when dropped and when the protector gets cracked you will have a replacement and a clean unbroken screen :).

  • Dropped mine like a 100 times, the screen sometimes goes off when I drop it but then after restart it comes back on.Pretty good for a refurb phone.

  • you must be whacking pretty hard as I dropped mine more then I want to admit and even got it wet slipping of a bank into a stream with out a problem

  • 3 rd one in 6 months! Brand new $700. Dropped 4 in". Shattered scree . LCD blow . $200 dollar deductibl . Replacement a refurb . 6 weeks later a blown LCD . REFERB #2, 3RD PHONE AND IT WON'T HOLD A CHARGE! ALL IN ALL $1000 IN LESS THAN 6 MONTHS!

  • I just got one recently. If you get one that's not full of bugs, it is a really good buy. Even in 2016. Little to no lag, nice "back" camera, full of features if you need one, great processor and screen especially. A Marshmallow update would perfect it.

  • Sndroid Marshmellow is coming for this one?

  • And it wouldn't break even when I threw it at my wall in my house...and this goes for all the Samsung galaxy's...this phone is like a block of iron (which is good)

  • Wow! The Samsung s5 active is great...don't listen to anyone who tells u otherwise...they just don't know how to handle a smart and capable device like the galaxy s5...the phone has more storage than 2 xbox ones would have...yea that's a lot of storage and a lot of apps you can download...every update keeps making this phone a better phone and everything about it is awesome

  • I love this phone, it took me running it over with my car for the screen to crack. Although, my husband has to call me about 5 times before it will go through to my phone...

  • please does this phone have a 6.0 os upgrade

  • I have SM-G870F Como Version. It's perfect phone! I dropped into the rocks - no scratch...i swim into Black Sea more than hour and still working. I buy it in 01. April. 2015 year. Today is 24 July 2016.... look's like new... I buy from US a case Unicorn Beetle it's perfect and MONSTER + EasyAcc 20000mAh Rugged Power Bank with IP67 Waterproof, Dustproof, Shockproof... it's just perfect. On my opinion next phone Samsung Galaxy s6 active is peace of shit...and the next one Galaxy s7 Active maybe is good like this one :) If you whant to buy the Active phones i recommended this one or Galaxy s7 Active :)

  • do not buy this phone. I had 2 of them. One turned brick when droped from pants pocket and second phone has broken back camera, proximity and light sensor it just stopped working one day. Battery just died in one of the phones aftrer six months. Worst exeriance ever !

  • Worst phone I've ever owned. Waterproof? I verified that all the covers were sealed, but it in less than six inches of water and ... boom! ... my camera is full of water. Yay! I bought a SM-G707A, decided I wanted to try another carrier, switched to Ting, and discovered that although this phone can operate on Ting's frequencies, because Samsung let AT&T customize their ROM, it doesn't actually work most of the time. I paid cash for this thing off-contract: I own it, not Samsung, and definitely not AT&T. I'm angry with AT&T, but I'm angry with and feel betrayed by Samsung: you helped them do it and didn't dislike your collusion with me, your customer. I'm never buying a Samsung device again.

  • my is water resistant. Have you tried taking the case off and wiping it down/dry? that was an issue. phone is water resistant but phone case retains some water

  • I stupidly bought this phone before reading reviews. The phone works great as long as you don't want to make a call, receive a call or send a text. I took the phone back to the AT&T store where I bought it and they suggested I get an iPhone.

  • It is not water resistant at all before I threw it in the pool it was not glitching after I threw it in the pool it was glitching even after I wiped it off and the case was on it

  • I confirm this phone definitely has ANT+ support.

  • This phone, and probably most waterproof phones has amazingly bad design flaws. The worst of which is that there is no way to test the quality of the seal with out risking damaging the phone. With an external waterproof case you can test the case with out the phone to see if it is water tight. Another problem is the phone really needs 2 separate waterproof compartments, the first compartment being for the electronics, the second for the battery, and sim card. Lastly, an internal moisture sensor to shut down the phone when a leak happens is necessary. I sent my phone back after it failed to seal the first time I tried it in the kitchen sink.

  • I am using same phone, it new tho. .but pple don't hear me when I call them

  • how come outdoor rugged phone ,not dual sim , no radio ????

  • At 2 years old, my battery lasts all day with adaptive brightness enabled. I've taken it to music festivals and shot lots of pictures and videos with DropBox sync running constantly, and it will still last most of the day with heavy use like this.

  • I couldn't agree more. I'm glad that this phone works so well for so many but it's by far the worst phone I've ever had. Maybe it's this particular unit but what a piece of junk. The battery life is maybe a few hours with the brightness almost all the way down and minimal apps running. I don't even know if i want to upgrade to the S7 after this

  • no

  • 1st if your having issues with updating the andriod os i had to bring it to best buy samsung center and have them dowload the os and the move it to my phone to installit its free btw any ways I love this phone was reading the comments and some people were talking about the phone breaking under very little abuse i don't know whats wrong with they're phones i've dropped this phone from higher than two stories several times on to concrete chucked it at the ground once dropped it in the sink several times i've used the phone as a skipping stone in a pool once and have dropped the phone from about 4 feet too many times to count dropped a few tools on it had some pens explode on it and its taken a year and a half of heavy abuse for it to finally show a sign of damage... if i drop or bump it hard it turns off it works fine otherwise I love this phone one complaint is that the speaker/micro phone takes about a day to dry out which can get annoying

  • I absolutely love this phone. I have accidentally five into a pool down to 8 feet, then swam back up and chucked across the concrete in a panicked way. The most damage that occurred is an unnoticeable "nick" on the side. As for the case, it sucks. It cracked off within a few days. The camera is outstaning. The lacking fingerprint option is fine by me, I hated that feature

  • I got a brand new S5 active couple of months ago. Strangely for no reason the sides of the cover started cracking up. Cracks have appeared on all four edges too. In addition, the screen also cracked suddenly. Now I have a broken body of the phone. My wife's phone also has developed a crack. It is the worst ever phone that I have owned.

  • I had made sure to clarify that with the sales clerk. He kept insisting that it was waterproof, "but not like how a camera is waterproof." And he couldn't understand when I said that makes it water *resistant* not proof.

  • Not for underwater use. At least not the one i got. All worked well, the cover well pressed together, the USB shutter too. Submerged it in a calm pool some 3-4 inches deep and it dropped dead within 60 seconds. When i opened the cover the seal clearly didn't hold. I didn't swim or anything, just simple gentle submerging. I've been drying it in rice for 24+ hours and this morning tried it on. Still nothing. There is some activity in it, but the display won't start. I'm taking it to a repair shop this afternoon to see if it's salvageable. I found at least one person online that had this happen to him while submerging it in tap water, so the bottom line, if you submerge it, it's at your own risk....

  • do you know how can I update? my galaxy s5 is on kitkat 4.4.2

  • how can I update my S5 Active G870A from at&t to lollipop, I'm on kit kat 4.4.2

  • It also appears that another advantage of the s5 active over the s6 is that this uses the Qualcomm processor and some of the forums have figured out how to enter into certain modes that allow activation of various LTE bands around the world. For instance, the A version is for the US and may or may not allow LTE in Europe (one would think ir would according to bands it natively operates on). There's a nothern Europe version that works with LTE in Europe, but doesn't have the bands activated for North America. One can simply turn the desired bands on that they want and it will work on LTE. This is annoying thing when I go to the US with my Euro S4 Active, even though the T-Mobile data I get there is pretty fast- faster than 3G (like between 3.5-low 4G speeds). Now I can turn on those bands. Overall, the only reason I'm getting one is because the camera in the S4 Active isn't that good. Clarity and sharpness are poor, but I'm also used to using Nokia phones, which nothing really competes with, when the camera is in question. Other than that, there isn't a tremendous difference. Plus an advantage this doesn't have over the S4 Active is that Samsung didn't make the Active Case for this. If you are REALLY active and accident prone, get the S4 Active and the incredibly cheap and durable Active Case. It's the best one on the market and provides incredible protection for the screen during drops and adds protection well beyond what the S5 Active will have built-in.

  • 1080p@30fps? True, but the device can 1080p@60fps too! Pls, take this info to the specs!

  • Recently I was using s3, and I got this galaxy s5 active not long ago. In fact, the phone is really good. It's battery last for long, of which it doesn't need any batery-safe app and stuffs. For me, persay I dont like big phones like, the note.... Buh found this s5 active as cute, normal size and portable as well.

  • In buying this phone, I thought it would be a great model. I've had six, count them, SIX replacements in a year and a half. All of which, AT&T admitted were phone issue related and had nothing to do with the user. I'm going to have to have it replaced for the seventh time because I cannot afford to buy a new model. Most of the issues were software related. DO NOT BUY THIS PHONE WITH AT&T. If you are as unlucky as I, it will deteriorate over three or four (sometimes one) months.

  • This is so far, the best phone I've ever used. It is my work phone and I love it. I think it is light years ahead of my old work phone, the iPhone 4. My personal phone isn't even as good, it's the S3.

  • I have had this phone for about 4 months, and it still is as awesome as I first got it. I have taken it in my swimming pool with me, went on a boat with it, and dropped it numerous times and it hasn't cracked, or gotten destroyed. The Android OS is awesome, and so is Google and Samsung!

  • Just got my s5 active today and it's has restarted for almost four times just this evening. Anyone could give a tip

  • I think it's a pos have same downloaded apps that I had on my s3 don't keep charge, restarts itself, wife has more problems with hers,is there a way to take apps it came with off

  • There is good news for SAMSUNG GALAXY S5 ACTIVE under carrier AT&T that your phone is upgraded to Android 5.1.1 Lollipop. i found this in a blog The changelog is Upgrade to Android 5.1.1 Android for Work Security updates Fix to Ultra Power Saver mode for devices using On Device Encryption

  • I love the Galaxy S5 Active!!!! I Bought mine Earlier this Year. The Gorilla Glass Never Scratches! For A Trucker like me, im dropping it all the time and I actually Backed over it when iwas putting Snow chains on my Rear Drives Lol.... It Survived with no scratch and works fine! But i would'nt Reccomend Running it over. Maybe I just got lucky.lol.. Anyways, great phone. I recommend this phone to anyone who wants reliability and is tired of dropping there phone and having to pay for screen repairs. Anyone with a Heavy Duty job can use this sleak phone without the bulky feel of a huge unneeded case or holder. Thanks. I hope this helped

  • I have had my Samsung Gs5 for a 2 years. I drop it and the hole screen went black like there was ink inside the phone. I had it repaired and now the button for the swipe screen shut's down the phone I took the battery out to try to reset it and it did, but it continue to do that and I wasn't able to reset and the whole screen would go blank and for about an 7 hours it reset itself

  • I think the s5 active is the most attractive android phone available on the market; it looks better than the regular s5 galaxy and has a wider screen. Some people say it's bulky but that's not true - the s5 active is thinner and much lighter than my iPhone 4s, which is amazing considering its screen is two times bigger than my iPhone 4s. I love plastic gadgets. Plastic is more durable, lightweight and flexible than any other smartphone material out there. It feels warm and soft to touch, is not easily scratched, whereas my iPhone felt cold and heavy and its stainless steel sides felt uncomfortable in my hand and scratched way too easily and of course the screen cracked everytime I dropped it. But perhaps the most practical feature of plastic, is that it doesn't cause signal interferences or dropped calls. WIth my iPhone I had dropped calls and signal interferences all the time. That has never happened with my s5 active. For those saying just buy the regular s5 galaxy and put a cover on it - you don't know what you're talking about. The regular galaxy is not made of plastic. This plastic phone is defintely worth it for active individuals, BECAUSE it is made of plastic. The battery life on this phone is amazing and I haven't even tried the battery saving settings (power saving mode or ultra power saving mode) for emergency situations or camping yet (which is a huge reason why I bought this phone). With minimal use and without any battery draining apps running in the background and with the screen on low settings, my phone lasts me well over 120 hours before I have to charge it again. That is a good 5 or 6 days. I have no idea why people are complaining about Lollipop draining the battery life, my phone lasts an exceptionally long time, which is a lot more than I was hoping for. For someone like me who is truly active and who doesn't use the phone for anything except music and calls, this phone makes the best sport and camping companion ever and it lasts a really long time! The screen on this phone is amazing. When you have the screen on auto, you can literally see it in bright daylight, shade or any kind of lighting, which truly does make it excellent for us outdoorsy types. A lot of people complain about it pocket dialing by itself - I have never had this problem. I love this phone!

  • I have a standard AT&T S5, and yes, I did some underwater recordings (for about 4 to 5 min) in a swimming pool, no water penetrated into. The GPS works good enough to show directions like a compass on the offline maps. Well, with a silicon case, it's pretty shock proof (had some hard falls). I'm satisfied.

  • I actually bought this phone for my mother and she didn't like the look of it so I kept it. Not a bad phone, mine has been water resistant, don't trust the waterproof. Noticed it gets hot when the GPS is turned on. If you also disable the build in apps, you get better battery life. Like that it has the micro SD card port. Wouldn't have bought this originally but not a mistake either

  • I love this phone. I upgraded from a Motorola Atrix 2 last July. I researched the phones offered by AT&T and I went into the store and said I want the Samsung Galaxy S5 Active in Ruby Red. I had them put the tempered glass in the store. It takes good pictures especially in low light and at night, battery life is good I added an app called Battery Saver which is amazing. The phone is not big but does everything it promises. It fell in the water . I took it ad dried it and then put it to charge and it worked good as new. Note to Samsung make the charger cable more durable the cable is thin and gets really dirty. I had to buy a new charger cable. Saw the S6 and S6 active but they do not offer the memory slot so I am staying with the S5 active which is working fine. I get compliments on the phone.

  • I just now had the same issue with water, little soaked for 5 sec under home/back buttons and killed it dead. NOT waterproof like my S4 Active!

  • EBay sells replacement camera glass for this phone. They're about 5 or 6 bucks. Hope this helps. Good luck.

  • Had the S5 Active for well over a year, now. I've rooted it and cleaned up the OS and it's the best phone I've ever had. I've trudged through swamps (Army) with it in my pocket and it just laughs and keeps going. No complaints.

  • Worst phone I've ever owned. I'm on #3 first one super heated, second was junk, bad prosser, this one is starting to super heat and misbehave well say. Works ok if I leave the back cover off...wth

  • Short story: S5Active not water resistant. Neither AT&T nor Samsung will stand by their product. Mine was deemed "uneconomical to repair due to liquid" and no replacement provided. It was in my pocket under a raincoat. Did it get wet? Yes. Is it water resistant? Apparently NOT! Don't buy an Active its supposed water resistance!

  • Yes there are lots of instances were a replacement is sent out and should not be due to improper testing

  • I have had the galaxy s5 active for a year and a month now. Periodically starting about 7 months ago the home button would quit working and the home screen would turn on an off by itself. It would last a few days then fix itself. After the last big update it didn't do it for several months so I figured it was a software issue that was resolved with the updated. Well a year in and it has started again and it's been going on for a month now. I can work around not having the home button work, but the home screen constantly turning on and off drains the battery big time. I used to get a full use all day now I have to charge the phone mid day. I tried to do multiple resets and did a hard reset and nothing has worked. Please send me suggestions if you think there is a way to fix it.

  • I have had the s5 active for about 4 weeks now, and I have no complaints about it.. you rock samsung!!!

  • My friend had my phone and he axcidently dropped it and the back camera glass broke i don't know what to do.

  • my s5 active crashed from 1mt and the internal screen was damaged that's sucks. what kind of phone is that.

  • My dad is getting me a s5 active from a flip phone. Is that a good idea?

  • I had a Galaxy Active S5 since August 2014. Back in July 15, 2015 it was changed under warranty because it turned off when I put it in my pocket. During that first year I took a lot of pictures under water with my kids and nothing happened. My kids were extremely happy playing with the phone under water. Then when I received the replacement, by the way the serial number is 1,510,979 older than the first unit. 10 days later the first time I took a picture under the water it got damaged ( water inside ). I know how to use it, I make sure that everything is closed and secure. It is possible that the replacement was damaged since the beginning???

  • Guyz please tell me about your lolipop experience on S5 Active Should i update or not ??

  • Hi!!. Don't worry about that!! You only need to install "Power Toggles" available in play store..

  • Mobile hotspot will not turn on says mobile network not available or invalid sim yet am browsing on high speed on my Samsung Galaxy s5 active.Need help please

  • That sound like the worst customer service ever. They selling the phone but not know what Active Key is. It just like selling a tv and asking "What remote?". I am going to get a refund if I were you. Don't even bother buying Samsung at a store like that.

  • Hi I love my S5 Active. Right, there are things I would change on it, but all in all, I love it. Here's what I would change: 1. The power button placement, but that's a general Android phones flaw. 2. It should be possible to completely remove all Samsung apps from it.

  • picnic error

  • Water, Radiation, Shock, Heat, Dust, Impact, and Electromagnetic resistance. Plus it just looks badass, and has good weight. Your doing research (reading Internet reviews) v.s. mine (handling/using the phones firsthand and obtaining manufacturing notes, specs, and tolerances) vary greatly. Not to mention I am Certified and Qualified 10x's over on this subject.

  • The Samsung Galaxy S5 Active is a great phone. The S2 has been my favorite until now. The S3 and S4 were very dainty, and I do not like the capacitive 3 button style. The S2 featured the Back Button, Home Button, Task Button, and Search Button in that order. It's symmetry was streamlined, and it was still pretty heavy/well built. I've dropped it more times than I can remember, flashed so many times it should be fried, and ran the batt dead and let it sit for so long the cells should have gave out by now. How old is the S2? I have my Original from Boost mobile still. I have been through one for USCC and Att since I moved to an area with no boost coverage and both of those models smashed in a week. So then I got a Motorola E for the meantime while I decided what to do. I had planned to get a Motorola X, and then discovered the S5 Active. The Tactile buttons and same performance Hardware Package as the S5 made it attractive to me. The S5 looked very cheaply made, and felt the same. The active although felt rather sturdy. So I got it. I can say the Lollipop update did no justice and I will flash when I get the time, but this phone is incredible. I've had 28 apps going at once and never experienced a stutter. I can suck 6 gigs of data in 2 days at 100 mbps+ with 4G LTE. The applications for this machine are limitless. Plus, with 10 Gz, I have more power in my phone than 97% of Americans have at home on their desktop or laptop. I can record studio quality films. my phone has been dropped a few times on my wood floors, on tile, on gravel, and even been thrown around my car while it was on the dash sending tunes to my subs via a Belkin transmitter. The lens, nor case, nor screen has a minor imperfection. I went with the Titanium Gray. Anyways.. if you are skeptical because of the speakerphone issue, the mic for speakerphone is at the top of the phone, separate from the standard mic.. Keeping that in mind, problem solved. I had the same problem until I found out where the mic was. If your having issues with the phone ending calls when flipped, locked, rotated, etc.. then go to Settings>Gestures and tweak toe settings. Then go to Settings>Calls and tweak those settings. Problem solved. Your S5 wasn't waterproof? Then you installed the battery cover incorrectly. Start bottom both corners first simuktaneously, feel for the next clip points following both thumbs up both sides at the same time, continue to snap in place simultaneously. Also, be mindful and cautious of the micro USB charger input plug as well, and check gaskets for damage every time you expose them or before you reinstall. Samsung finally stepped up their game enough for me to come back on this one, yet I have no clue who is responsible for the disastrous S6 and S6 Active. They are plagued with caching, memory, and bandwidth management issues, plus stationary battery. Now, I am not sure because I forget to check on this, but I heard there is no memory expansion slot (MicroSD/XD/HC port) as well. If that's the case, once again Samsung is having leadership issues or has a rogue employee. I am a Graduate of CIS/IT Support, Programming, Website Design/Dev, Security, and Network/Database Admin. I work for SSA, Smart Source Staffing Solutions, Insight Global, Decision One, Eden Technologies, and founded TecKnows (www.TecKnows.me). My opinions in Technology, Science, and Psychology (even though Psychology isn't widely though of by the average person as a Science, it is, so I list them separately).

  • doing research myself to choose between the s5 and s5 active. BOTH are waterproof up to 3 ft for 30 mins. BOTH have gorilla glass. The difference is the "bumpers" on the s5 active that are " shock absorbing"... the regular s5 has no shock absorption. this is what makes the diff size wise. Inside they are the same... so the active is nt " slower".

  • I've owned all Galaxy S phones 1-5 and the S5 Active is the best by far. Being and extreme outdoorsman I can actually use my phone out in the elements without worry. As I passed on getting the S6 because of the inability to change battery or add storage, my wife got the S6 and we swapped phones for the day. I can't begin to say how glad I am that I passed on the S6. It's so delicate and felt as if I had to be very careful of it all the time. Don't get me wrong, the S6 worked very well with good features, but not any more than the S5 Active. The fingerprint scanner didn't work well and glad its not on the Active. S5 Active is a GREAT phone!

  • Please tell me : Should I buy the g5 active or else ??? Thank you for your advices , waiting for the answers .

  • Please tell me : Should I buy the g5 active or else ??? Thank you for your advices , waiting for the answers .

  • RUN don't walk from this phone. Worst ever and Samsung and AT&T REFUSE to acknowledge what a piece of junk it really is. I sent the phone back to Samsung twice, they called me and asked what was wrong. This after two conversations with the online customer service rep about the problems. So, my issues are the speaker phone doesn't work, and everyone I talk to says either they can't hear me, or it sounds like I am crinkling cellophone in the receiver or that I am standing in a tunnel. Also, the Active key stopped working which I am pretty sure is one of the KEY features of the phone. The tech had the nerve to ask "What is the active key?" Now I know I am totally screwed. My old 4 year old cell phone works better than the hunk of junk. I will NEVER buy Samsung again. This after I own a Samsung refrigerator, computer and washing machine which I love.

  • I don't know what everyone is complaining about. I've had the gs2,3,4,and 5a always root and install new firmware and this phone is flawless.

  • Thanks for all the comments. My S4minis screen stopped working today, and samsung asked me very close to the same price to replace the screen as a new S4mini would cost. I pretty much chose to never use samsung again after using samsung for few years now. After looking at what's available and durable the s5 active came up and I considered getting one, but seems to be just as bad as the rest. It's a pitty though, seems like there is not much other durable phones people are happy with. Definitely not going for this, or any samsung.

  • I have read a lots comments so far making me confuse : the s5 active is heavy, slow phone; there is no waterproof and most important easy to break the screen ... Is it true ?? I live in Yukon,Yt, Canada ( I work as construction worker and most the time outdoor.)

  • I just bought Samsung Galaxy E5 and after three days its home button stop working itself! Why?

  • Root the phone and install a custom rom. It's quite easy and battery life is MUCH better!

  • This phone isn't rubbish. It's a great phone and whoever is having issues with it just has a problem with technology. To the person who said their relative had the s3 active and switched, obviously doesn't know what they are talking about. There is no such thing as the s3 active. If you don't know first hand about something then keep your mouth shut, for the sake of sacred science. I had the s3 and upgraded to the s5 active. It's an incredible device. The Lollipop update is a retrograde in certain aspects, but the phone handles it superbly.

  • This phone is horrible. My fiance got it, fortunately I picked the lg g3 last year, and ever since he got it with each update there's been no improvement. Even with the lollipop update the battery life got even worse and it over heats. I literally unplugged it and watched the battery percent go from 100% to 95% in exactly 1 minute. Do not waste your money! Trust me!

  • This phone is rubbish. I recommend spending your money elsewhere. My dad had the SGS3 active and loved it, he upgraded to S5a and I went from iPhone to S5a, bad decision. The lock button is on the right side of the phone so it always being touched by a thumb / finger and if you lock on phone calls it hangs up, very annoying. sending texts took a while to grt used to because of the same issue with the lock button. The size makes it clumsy, you might think "oh it's just a little bigger" but I've dropped this phone more times than any other because it's so wide you can't fit you hand all the way across the back comfortably and it falls when you take it from your pocket, in mIne and my dads cases at least. We're guys with big hands and it still happens. The glass to protect the camera is thin and cheap so it breaks very easily, rendering your phone no longer water proof. Also, I dropped my iPhone 5 without a case countless times and the screen stayed intact over 16 months or so. Only after falling 3 stories from an apartment balcony to cement did the screen receive damage, this S5a fell from my lap in a car to the ground and the screen shattered. Only had it about 3 months. It also has a bunch of apps that are useless that run up your data like crazy, you have to mess with settings to make it stop doing that. I was running my data through the roof the first 2 months, like within a week or 2 I would get data usage warnings and my phone is always in wifi at home or on campus (college student). The screen is so big and great quality, those are plus', but this means it requires more data to stream if you're out of wifi range, very bad. Overall the phone is mediocre, if you're a business man with a jacket pocket to keep the phone it might be a good option, but for the active, young, college student or someone who works with their hands daily, this is a very bad option.

  • Yes, its good.

  • Very Coooool.

  • Please give me an advise : Should I buy the s5 active ? If is it the good phone ? Waiting for your answers .Thank you .

  • Oh my god my phone does EXACTLY what yours does to the letter! The 911 pocket dials are the worst because it literally happens 3x a week. Also the predictive text started auto filling full sentences for me instead of just a word, when it did autocorrect a word it is typically not even close to what i wanted..i think i hate this phone, which sucks because i loved it for the first month and cant exchange it at thi point. I hope someone finds a fix for this...

  • I agree this phone does all kinds of things on it's own. It will answer when trying to take it out of my pocket. The text messages are not in order because it doesn't work on min and seconds. It uses up all my data where I had no issues with my Iphone

  • I like the design of this phone more than the regular galaxy s5... unfortunately they dont sell this variant in india :(

  • My phone just completely quit ci tried putting it on the charger but it still isn't working and I had like 40% left

  • magnificent, really awesome, king's looking, I like this one very much-SAMSUNG S5 ACTIVE

  • Mine is doing to same thing. I hope y I u find someone to help because I can find any.

  • i seen just cracked screens and splashing water on it and dies,GO FOR SAMSUNG GALAXY XCOVER SERIES,i have first xcover for 1.5 months, and i throw it on grass frome 6 meters, water submerged 30s-5m many times, dropped out of a bike, broke another phone with that, and just some scratches, and work like new

  • Hi Teri, being Samsung user for years, I live with stock setup for a first couple of month of purchase only. After that I always install faster and better firmware (like Cyanogenmode for example), root the phone and remove the bloatware installed by provider, which takes up space, battery life and slows down the phone. The instructions are very clear and not too hard to follow. Youtube has plenty of step by step videos. All resources are available from XDA Developers forum. Good luck!

  • I was reluctant to change from the iPhone to the Samsung...resisted for over 2 years. Finally my iPhone 4S was getting too slow, Apple wasn't offering any good deals, and I needed a fast, reliable phone for work (medic) and a fun, sexy phone for play. Best Buy had the S5 and the S5 Active for a buck on the Black Friday sale, so we upgraded..him to the S5, me to the S5 Active. He's had no issues with his S5. My S5 Active is a different story...At first it was awesome! Gradually it got slower and slower, texts taking forever to write and send, phone opens on its own in my pocket while locked or even just lying on the table locked, the phone will call 911 and my contacts on its own when locked, with me unable to stop it in the process. Numerous other issues including the home button taking me to Google rather than the home screen, the lag on the phone, and my typed and/or spoken texts changed (yes I know how to use the text suggestions). I've read thru the comments here and see I'm not the only one with said issues. Has anyone figured out any solutions? Snarky troll answers and suggestions on trashing the phone aside, I'd like to hear genuine answers from you guys.

  • is this phone available in middle east?

  • Just got the phone a couple weeks ago so far I like it but I also had a junk one before .there r a few things I don't like already tho.the cover to my battery is thin I feel like it's gonna break when I take it off and I barley dropped it and the battery cover pops off.for the first few days the home button REALLY bothered me if I hit home it went to Google and I was not holding the button to long I barley touch it no matter what I did it took me to google.i don't like the power button being on the side right where my finger is and being n my pocket it pushes buttons like crazy...I guess we'll see n a couple months if I find anything else I don't like.

  • The otter boxes do not work on theses Samsung galaxy s5 active they still get drywall dust ,dirt dust inside the battery compartment. Waist of money on those otter boxes.theses phones are a waist of money.

  • was looking forward to the greatest phone yet. Read all the great promises from Samsung! The charging cover came of in the second month! The phone has serious issues! dials numbers while sitting.opens apps by itself. opens hundreds of emails that were previously read, A HUGE STEP BACK FOR SAMSUNG!!

  • After 5 Months Mic stop working . Very disappointed.

  • After 5 Months Mic stop working . Very disappointed.

  • Its alright, i loved it until the texting functions started to act up. I sometimes have to take out the battery and wait five minutes, put it back and start up the phone for a message to send. Very disappointed

  • My home button is stuck or something. I've had it for 5 months now and it's just stuck. Never dropped or anything. Definitely will be taking it back.

  • Great phone love it for sure dropped it in snow water down a flight of 10 ceramic stairs still mint condition just dropped it this morning maybe 1 foot of the ground bam screen is totally shattered. -_-

  • Overall happy. But I can agree with some of the complaints. Slippery- got an otter box. The main issue is my charger cover broke off.. when? No idea.. it was just gone. So hopefully I don't drop in the water. (Knock on wood) Gotten used to the size. Some issues with performance with the last update. I do a ton of email and I'm a FB junkie so it's ideal. Keeping my iPhone on standby in case of future issues.

  • why is this phone not found in the Philippines?

  • If u want a tough phone like this wait for galaxy xcover 3

  • Man, you're clumsy!

  • Durability of the phone is good for me, but the texting capabilities are awful! It just took me 2 minutes to text yes. From home screen tap text icon, select recipient, then wait forever with a black screen, finally see previous convo, wait for keyboard, start typing when it appears, wait for letters to appear in text box, hit send, wait for text to appear in sent area, then wait for actual time stamp to confirm send. So frustrating! I've tried deleting texts, but the phone freezes. I'll be back with apple ASAP.

  • I received my new phone. It is every thing I thought it would be.This is my first cell phone. Some people had a problem with water intrusion. The instructions are very specific about closing the battery cover and the USB port. When you are done charging, the pone tells to close the USB cover. If you are a roughneck and work outside you need a good otter box. The only thing I did't like was the tiny key board. I have big hands found a non metallic styles a must have tool to use the phone. Using the styles solved my problem and mane me very happy with this product.

  • I've dropped this phone from about five feet onto concrete on several occasions and it is in near mint condition still.

  • We had the S5 active for 2 weeks. Fell maybe 2.5 - 3 feet, onto a shirt on the floor...and the whole screen shattered. Started at bottom and expanded upwards it looks like. But just want to say. We were told it was the "next release of the 'rugby'..." which it is far from .

  • hello ive heard due the lack of 900MZ on 3 G band it desnt work is some european countries the 3G signal!! watch out

  • Two important (well, at least to me) questions about the S5 Active: 1) Is there a "Kids Mode" like with the regular S5? 2) Does the S5 Active have a "panning shot" effect like the S5? Thanks, Tygre

  • I was under the impression that the s5 active was ad tough as the rugby. But in 5 short months I have shattered my scree

  • See I love this phone. It's very durable. Except for the fact I dropped it one time and the lower part of my screen has already cracked. And I didn't even drop it that hard. Very disappointed.

  • Bought this from a UK independent supplier on ebay, I use an EE 4G sim card and have NO problems! Fully 4G compatible! One question however, this phone has come pre-installed with at&t junk apps, and I think as a result I'm having a hard time linking my Dropbox / there new carousel app to gallery and so when I want to send pics though 3rd party apps im having lots of trouble.. simply, I don't get the option to link on settings!! Any help much appreciated.

  • Hi please help my galaxy S5 cracked on the inside screen bottom left, and now it doesn't work when I touch the screen it doesn't respond it like it freezing it been 2 days no iz it bcause of the crack pls guys help I need my phone.

  • discard

  • This Phone Is amazing. I LOVE IT!!! The Phone Is Attractive, Works Great, And Has So Many Cool FeatureS. I Wouldn't WaNt Any Other Phone :)

  • How i can get this phone in malaysia? Is this release in Asia?

  • If you guys are having trouble with the phone being too slippery your buttons being pushed Try the unicorn beetle case works really good and I know it's a very odd name but it does work and it's cheap

  • I just dropped my S5 Active in my driveway. The impact seems to be on the lower left hand corner of the phone based on the scratches to the case. The glass did not crack! I dropped my S3 and other smartphones (yes, I'm clumsy) and in every other occurrence when I didn't have a protective cover, the glass cracked. In my experience, the phone never quite works the same once you replace the glass. So, if you have a tendency to drop your phone once in a while this is the phone for you.

  • The Samsung Galaxy S5 Active is a very reliable/durable cell phone. The phone is great! Except for my messaging. It starts running slower than ever. Ive never had a phone do this to me before. I will be typing and my words dont pop up till 10-20 seconds later. My messages also have trouble sending. I will think the person im texting has not texted me back but its really my message has not gone through. The app always takes an extremely long time to pop up. Other than that.. great phone! :) I hope this helped.

  • I've had the s5 Active for a few months and I'm trying to figure out how I can trade it in without paying an arm and a leg. The buttons on this phone are in a bad position. With normal use the buttons get accidentally pressed causing the phone to get turned on and off among other things. The phone is slippery. I have dropped it more than any other phone I've owned. The phone is not rugged as advertised, so the repeated drops make me cringe every time. I think the phone is slightly too big, making it uncomfortable in a pocket, add a case to try to protect it a bit more and it's way too big for my liking.

  • I'm on the next plan, I had a Galaxy 4s and switched to the Galaxy 5S Active. At first I liked it, now it is really frustrating because it is slower than the 4s. Even though I have 4 bars; the reception isn't there, takes along time to view something. There is really no difference between the Galaxy 4 and the Galaxy 5. I wish I could switch back to my Galaxy 4s. They're is one thing different and that is the camera. ... more options. ..

  • I will buy i , I already lost my s4 active and tthe "active" version really atrractive

  • What you bought was the privilege of locking into a contract for a couple years

  • I'm happy that around 3% are happy with s5 active. From a business stand point listen to the majority. It's crap! And whoever claims their phone got ran over twice and was Fine carry it a all times cause its it lucky charm apparently! This phone needs to be completely revamped to be considered rugged.

  • I've had this phone since summer and is nothing of rugged. It's slippery to hold, buttons are very inconveniently positioned and extremely sensitive. The phone has called 911 from lock screen multiple times from being in my pocket. I'm extremely disappointed in its quality all around. I assure you it was not a rugged person who put thought into its design!

  • This thing is suppose to be everything proof. A stronger version of the s5. I had previous a s4 for 2 years. The s4 was dropped on gravel many times and no damage. I have this phone for 8 hours and the first drop and the screen spidered. I thought this thing was designed with drops in mind. And the first drop totally ruined it. I use this for work and now Idk what to do.

  • As a phone it is junk. Never gets service.(switched from s4 which got great service in the same places) Battery lasts 3 hours with the phone in my pocket. Probably from constant searching for service. I have never had more than 2 bars

  • "Of this price" ? Hahaha.. I just bought one from best buy for one dollar.

  • buy a redpepper waterproof case for your normal phone and put your phone there in. IP68 rated 1.8m for 0.5 hours and shockproof no need to buy a phone of this price and it seems it do not live up to its rating.

  • The exact same thing happened to my wife's phone. It was dropped for less than 3 seconds in approximately 5" of water. Samsung claimed that the fact that the phone was water damaged was "proof" that that the IP67 conditions were violated (1 meter depth for 1 hour). This is a self-serving interpretation that is pure circular logic. In itself, it is at least fraudulent advertising. We recommend that anyone buying this phone ignore the water resistant claim as empty promises. Further we suggest that no one should buy a phone from a company willing to foist such a falsehood on the buying public.

  • fark! mine too!!! it was dropped with my sister's iphone 6 when she got out from the car, and her iphone survived

  • BS my phone screen cracked by falling two feet of a coffee table.

  • This phone is absolutely amazing. I'very been a FedEx Driver for the past three years and I've been in the military for the past 7 years in other words I live a very active and rugged fast past life. This phone is perfect, a little big considering I use to be an iPhone user but I coped with it. I've dropped this phone out of my driver side door in my FedEx truck doing 45, ran it over and watched the car behind me run it over. I freaked... after I pulled over and ran out to retrieve it I was amazed over the fact there wasn't even so much as a scratch on the thing. The only lyrics thing I have on this phone is a screen protector (amazon : .99$) and a cheap rubber and plastic case (knock off otterbox amazon: 9.99$). I don't know what these people are doing to get their phone cracked but if mine survived a high speed fall and being run over twice... I don't see any other phone being worthy enough to fit my lifestyle

  • Coming from an iPhone 4, not sure if the things that annoy me are simply learning curve or not. seems to have a lot of bloatware for a communication device/camera/browser/reader, which is all I really use it for. Made the switch to have an incentive to learn Android programming.

  • Wife had her active for a couple months. It slid out of her car, a small fall and the screen cracked. How in the hell can they give this a milspec rating and a ip67 rating. When on the phone with these dumb asses they had no clue what either one of these are. Yes the software and phone seem nice but when you say rugged and on a small fall it Cracks I guess not. Hell my normal s5 has held up better. I plan to move my family back to apple.

  • I have has the phone for 3 months, can't grasp it, too 'slippery'. 'Shatter Proof' my ass, it may be more durable than the S5 but not by much. There is no case for these things unit, 3 months AFTER they come out. Would not recommend them. Wife and daughter have the iPhone and nothing has happened to the screens in 2 years. I can't stand Apple, but starting dislike Samsung just as much. Bring back the old Motorola i330. #Brick phones for life.

  • I have no idea what everyone's problem is. The galaxy s5 active is the best phone anyone has ever made. If it had the s3's auto correct in messaging, it would be 100%. These people obviously just like to find fault with everything. For the people that "pull their phone out of their pocket and the screen is cracked", at&t makes flip phones! O, but you'd probably have a problem with the thing 'falling apart just looking at it'.

  • Had the phone for a week, I had it in my front pocket and the screen cracked on the top right corner. Then it got worse, total shattered/cracked the whole screen. Now I can't even use it because it went black...can't see a damn thing.

  • Honestly, this phone feels like a prepaid phone in my hand.. sucks the elite are finally taking over and everything is getting cheaper.. what a shame, my s2 feels like new technology in my hand, unlike this s5

  • I bought the phone 3 weeks ago, and now i have a black line through my screen that appeared randomly. I assume it will be covered under warranty, but I'm aprehensive about keeping the Samsung now.

  • Love it at first. Awesome being water proof. Shock proof? No. Literally just cracked the screen as it fell out of my lap on a wood floor. Thing is I also have a hard plastic case and a screen protector -.- now I'm gonna go on the near hopeless adventure of seeing my warranty covers it -.-

  • I wish I could say I liked this phone but I was sitting in class and thus phone completely shuts off and turns back on with a white screen and the att globe. He phone screen stayed like tht for about 8 hours and then its went to my home screen. From there I could hardly do anything like send a text or make a phone call at all.

  • I got this in June and couldn't be more happy with it. It's easy to use and see. I have dropped it both inside (wood floors) and outside and all I did was dust it off. Not a mark on it. The battery, last all day. At night I use the ultra power saving option and still have 98%. I would and do recommend this phone.

  • I've had this phone for two months and I was seating on my couch I got up and when I did my phone fell to the floor and the screen shuttered omg I have carpet and these happened these phone is all lies ... we need to go higher up just like they did for AT&T over charging people ..

  • Check out Ebay, if you want to get this phone. It should be available. saw the ad there. It is a unlocked version made available for India.

  • Very disappointed with this phone. Had it for 8 days and the screen cracked in my front jeans pocket. Samsung refused to replace my screen. Overall just a bad experience. It'll take much more convincing in the future to ever switch from Apple again.

  • Ive had my phone for a while and im in love with it the only thing i been having a little problem with lately is when i go to text someone it says my shared data is not turned on and im not sure what that means so if someone knows and could help me i would really appreciate it!! But it really is a great phone!!

  • Wow this really helped me the decision to get this phone rather than an iPhone , thank you.

  • yea well written, perhaps i see problem with your pocket not with the phone, it might as well crush your hand, change your pocket, your life is not safe anymore..

  • Why do specifications say it is water resistant up to 1 meter and for 30 mins when this is not true! My husband dropped his in sink of clean water and it died, now we are told that water damage is not part of warranty! Think this should be taken up with the omnibusman and watchdog see what they have to say

  • So first off, I did not purchase the S5 active. My father actually witnessed the phone fall out of the population pocket of a guy riding a motorcycle. Needless to say, he jetted out like a speed demon and had his phone fall onto hard asphalt and slide for about 50 ft. My father thought the phone would be done for sure when he picked it up. There was no damage to the phone other than a small, unoticeable scratch to the camera lens in the back. If you ask me that is quite amazing. Any other phone would have been done for sure.

  • Mysterious Crack on lower left of screen voids warranty. Samsung says AT&T advertise shatter proof not them so issue is with AT&T. AT&T says samsung doesn't cover physical damage or water damage. Can pay insurance deductible $199. Feeling false advertisement and the run around

  • why no possibilty to put a lace it would be so important for a rugged smartphone, what if it falls in deep water

  • VERY DISAPPOINTED. Five days... It was great for four days. On the fifth day I had it, I pulled it out of my pocket during lunch to check the time and there was a crack in the upper left hand corner of the screen. It may be drop proof and water proof but it sure as shit is not pocket proof. My 5 day old "most everything proof" phone is damaged with a voided warranty. I was never even able to take advantage of the water proof feature and won't because once again, voided warranty. VERY DISAPPOINTED.

  • Anybody knows how to activate my tethering mood, been trying it but it doesnt turn on?

  • I think its your mistake, you must let it dry first before you open any cover. it is typical to all water resistant or waterproof gadgets like Camera Etc. that let the unit dry prior to opening any cover.

  • macky 321 said " I had not a reason to take the backing off the phone."

  • I've been handling this phone for 4 hours and I have dropped it 9 times. It's very slick, It didn't break the screen til the 6th time I dropped it so I assume its a decent build. I had 13% battery and I called my aunt Judy up in Alabama and talked to her for 2 hours, got off the phone and still had 3% to check my twitter.

  • Not sure why your complaining. By your admission the cover was not installed correctly, the phone got wet and the water got inside and Samsung will not replace. Tough lesson to learn but it's your phone and responsibility to ensure the cover is secure. No maker will replace a phone if water gets inside. Sorry bud.

  • Had this phone for less than a week. Got the phone wet and the inside where the battery was got wet. NOT WATER RESISTANT! I had not a reason to take the backing off the phone. AT&T told me I took the case off and did not put it back on correctly. NO, the only thing that really happened was when the employee took the phone case off to put my sim card in he did not put the phone backing back on correctly. AT&T could do nothing for me, said take it up with Samsung. After reading other posts about water damage im very skeptical about getting a new phone replaced for free. Seems i will be scraping together 199$. BEWARE OF THE WATER WITH THIS PHONE!!!!!!!

  • You don't seem to be aware that carriers purchase spectrum within those bands. Those are the LTE bands for all US LTE networks.

  • I driopped mine and the shatter proof screen shattered :-( I only dropped it off my coffee table to, samasung was very rude about the durability of the phone and stated that it was durable but wud not five warranty on the phone if there was physical damage to it, so basically this phone is JUNK

  • Absolutely awesome, top notch hardware, but god awful interface. The default keyboard was just terrible. It would replace correctly spelled words with pure rubbish and had a very limited vocabulary. I found myself fighting with the auto correct just to send a simple text message. The settings page just made me upset trying to locate the correct settings to set. The overall colors themes were horrendous. When charging, the screen would come on and beep for no reason. If you can get past the interface, this phone is great. I was done with fighting with my phone after just four days.

  • No offense but it sounds like you got a bad phone my camera quality is great and it works great! I couldn't be happier

  • it has no ois

  • The active has the heartrate sensor instead of the fingerprint. I don't know what an "air gesture sensor" is, or whether it has one of those.

  • thanks for samsung comoany

  • Nacie phone and for vary good softwer mobaile mp4/Hd pc camera samsung Galaxy s5 may faivret phone

  • This model have fingerprint reader and air gesture sensor?

  • why would you panic and remove the battery, if the phone is water resistant? It is supposed to work after dropping in the pool.

  • I've had my S5 Active for about 3 weeks. It accidentally fell in the pool on Friday evening. I removed the battery, SIM card, and SD card and allowed it to dry overnight. Saturday morning (about 18 hours later) I reassembled the phone, and it worked perfectly. However, 8 hours later, the screen went completely dead. I was able to hear my text messages arrive, but I couldn't see them. Again, removed battery, et al. This morning (12 hours later), the screen is now visible, but the Messaging app is running much more slowly than normal. I have insurance on the device and will probably be seeking replacement.

  • i wish this phone will be released in Philippines. Very tough phone!!

  • I was thinking the same thing??? Maybe if we get it unlocked, we can use it on tmobile.

  • Can i find S5 Active in Gulf or Middle east

  • I have had the S5 and just purchased S5 active..The phone has worked great no major differences in it than the regular S5 on performance side..The S5 active feels more premium and the port at bottom is much more secure than on S5..I like the buttons on the phone and they work well..I haven't dunked it in water and hope if it goes in that it does what its suppose to..overall happy and like the camo color .

  • Yeah like the same old iPhone has made major changes over the years..same crap

  • The insurance is there so if you damage your phone you pay the required fee for that phone usually $150/175 and they replace your phone..no more cracked screen..they send you a brand new phone..Read the fine print..but that's what the insurance is there for..

  • The phone is water resident not waterproof ill call Samsung for a warranty claim if possible

  • I got my S5Active in early July from ATT. I wanted a durable phone because of my active lifestyle. I loved the phone, but unfortunately, in late July I put it in the outer pockey of my backpack and road my bike home. When I got home 35 minutes later, I found the glass was shattered. I called ATT. They wouldn't fix it or do anything to help. I didn't buy the insurance. Turns out the independent repair shops say it can't be replaced without the LCD. Replacement for the subassembly ran ~$350. I told them to order it and gave my credit card. A week later I'm told they can't get replacements. I called Samsung and really got a run-around from their call center. I asked the operator, " is there a local place to get the phone repared." She started asking me tons of questions. I asked again for a local repair place. again a ton of questions. Finally, as I was going to hang up she put me on hold a few times and then came back, mumbled something about Best Buy, and then said I could mail it to their repair center and expect a turnaround of 5 to 7 days, plus 4 days for shipping. I told her I couldn't give up my phone for that long. She said there were no other repair options. So here I sit with a new cracked phone. Very frustrating. Just a warning. I don't thinkinsurance would help here. I think the phone is too new and they don't have a means of repairing/replacement parts. The cracking is probably caused by residual stresses in the glass where seals press against it from underneath by the buttons. Beware, it's not so environmentally durable!

  • I have had my s5 active for 2 weeks now and I am HORIBLY DISSAPOINTED with it! I bought it because of all the good reviews I read about it, must have been paid off, uneducated, or just never actually owned this phone. I bought this phone mainly because O wanted the best camera possible on a phone, let me tell you, this one is not it! My 4 year old HTC MyTouch 4 takes nicer photos! Megapixels do NOT equal photo QUALITY, only size. 2 other gripes I have is the inability to change the fugly teal color on all the Samsung menus, and the INABILITY to change the "touch sounds". Yes as hard as it is to believe, these option do not exist on the S5 phones! Lastly, after 15 minutes on the phone it gets hot enough I have to hold it away from my face. I will be selling this junk phone, and try to find something better. I am writing this review only with the hope to help other from faling for the same lies that goy me to buy this phone.

  • Download a app called Smart switch mobile.it's fast and easy

  • I had the same problem with my S5 Active. Was at a waterpark with my wife and child, and 30 minutes after i got the phone wet, it was not working. I was told the same thing by ATT, and was asked to send the phone in by Samsung. I figure I will hear the same crap from them, in a few days. For anyone thinking about buying one of these phones, dont get it wet, it doesnt matter the case, they WILL NOT warranty the phone. Repeat, they WILL NOT warranty the S5 ACTIVE. They run a commercial on TV with a guy taking a picture under the water. That is totally false advertisement. I will not buy another Samsung, if they don't fix this phone, and after my contract is up with Att, I will be switching carriers.

  • why it has three button below??? duh!! its called s5 ACTIVE... it is build for water and dirt resistants.. lets say it uses touch sensor.. if water was still on the button could u still press the button efficiently and effectively?? thats why this design is unique and for people who wants ruggeded device with no fear bringing it on a beach..

  • Unlike Samsung to have three buttons below, if you cover the back side of the phone, please Samsung cover up the bottom as it does not look good .

  • why are there three buttons on the buttom this feature is very unappealing.

  • S5!

  • Hello Friends Give Me suggestion On Samsung Galaxy S5 Or IPhone 5s..... which one should i go for.....

  • hey people just tell me which mobile i should go for iPhone 5s or Samsung galaxy s5

  • The "4G Network" spec says "LTE 700 / 850 / 1700 / 1800 / 1900 / 2100 / 2600". Note the 1700 and 2100 MHz. These are T-Mobile's LTE frequencies. Why is this phone "For AT&T"?

  • Bad-ass phone. A million times better than the Iphone, and even better than the Windows phone. It's super sleek, light, and durable! And I love the Ruby Red color!

  • just download the free app GRAVITY SCREEN it turns your phone off when placed in your pocket and when screen down.some other features to this app ,but works perfectly to stop pocket dialing for GOOD.watch the video on youtube for Gravity screen.you are welcome.......

  • Very good

  • Hey guys does anyone know if the GS 5 Active has FM radio or not just like the normal S5?

  • My only problem with this phone so far is the ease with which it turns itself on in my pocket or as I am pulling it out of my pocket. I am pocket dialing everyone.

  • I love this fone, i just bought G S5 is good to go. With good futures

  • So are you currently running cynogenmod?

  • I just got mine today and I love it so far. I love the way it looks (green camo) and it is easy to navigate. I had the s4 active and it had some glitches, but haven't had any problems with the s5 active yet!

  • I don't believe you

  • I doubt this is true. I film with my regular s5 underwater and it's fine.

  • I would highly advise against purchasing this phone. I had the phone less than 3 hours when my son got some water on it. it wasn't submerged at 3 feet for 30 minutes or anything near their claims on the Samsung website, just a splash of water. Less than an hour later it started acting funny, the screen was flickering and everything acted like it was on a 5 second delay. I took it back to AT&T and they took a look under the back cover (which the AT&T employee put on) and there was water damage. AT&T at that point refused to take the phone back, stating that it was a damaged phone. They told me that I should speak with Samsung, as it was their issue. I called Samsung and they said that if there was any water damage that the warranty was void. I tried pointing out to both AT&T and Samsung that the sole reason I purchased this phone was the IP67 rating. Regardless, they refused to honor their water resistant to 3 meters for a half hour claim. I now have a brick sitting on my desk that worked for less than half a day. If you're even thinking of getting this phone for its water resistance, know that the water resistance failed for me when exposed to a single incident, and that neither Samsung nor AT&T would replace the phone.

  • This phone is so awesome! Beautiful look, and in Camo Green, my friends love it! I have already dropped it on the ground from about 3 feet, and I see no dents or scratches. Yea, it may be slippery in the hand, but it is worth it. It is an Otter Box, but a small and better version. Amazing size. Thanks android

  • Its a rugged device. Where have you seen a beautiful rugged phone aside from the xperia active? None. Because rugged phones focus on being robust so they wont give up as easily in rough conditions. These phones are for those who work in rough conditions of dirt, water, high heat in factories and metal workers. So stop whining about the looks already.

  • I've been using the Samsung Rugby LTE for nearly 2 years now.. I've dropped it several times, it's been wet with rain and mud and I can navigate the menu comfortably with one hand. While being a field technician working on various sites, I find the buttons VERY useful. (Especially wearing work gloves) I just wanted to write a little something to let people know, it may not have the looks or crazy sleek appeal that most phones have now (huge screen, shiny bezel, thin and light etc..) but I'm really excited to upgrade my Rugby to this S5 Active when my work gives me the budget in a few months. I've setup everything I need on my Rugby LTE so it works perfect for my daily and work purposes, but I'm looking forward to getting one of these in my hands soon with all the upgraded features. TRUST ME, it may not look as nice but functionally, it rocks! What I like is that it's made already with a protective case, so I don't need to find a waterproof case, it's already made like that. Also, the slim form factor allows me to use it with one hand with no button pressing mistakes. Built in Swype will be awesome too, as I already use that.. and don't forget to mention, I use my phone as a hotspot for my laptop, so being able to swap out dying batteries with a new one is invaluable. I have about 3 extra batteries and can provide my laptop with LTE connectivity for more than 8 hours. I think Samsung did a great job learning from the first edition Rugby, as to what the average construction worker, field technician, or handyman needs in a newer phone these days. So I'm really excited to check this one out when it comes to my city! OHH! Another thing I love, is that after I film adventures on my gopro3, I simply put the micro SD card into my phone and use Whatsapp to send edited HD videos on the go. Something other phones just dream of doing. (not to mention mp3 songs and other media that I like to drag and drop on the SD card / phone memory). To me, I want a phone that works when I need it, with all the features, such as the ones I mentioned above. I don't really care how it looks, just as long as I can fit it in my pocket nicely and I can use it on the go. SUPER STOKED!!!!

  • Having been a galaxy S3 user (rooted and multiple roms used) for the last two years, the S5 is amazeballs. I just got a grey one for myself and a red one for my wife. The only thing this phone doesn't do is..... J/K it does everything and it does it well. Thank to GeoHot for the towelroot for quick and easy rooting. Get one, its mil-spec'ed, you have to go out of your way to F it up.

  • Like.

  • This looks horrible.

  • its really funtastic.................

  • Will it still work if it gets hit by a raging bullet? LMFAO!

  • Why doesn't Samsung release Active series in India? Also the Snapdragon ones unlike others? I also believe Samsung is in love with PLASTIC...

  • again ugly old design with old android

  • Oh you mean the P7 that looks like an Apple iPhone on the side, Sony Z1 on the back and Samsung S2 on the front (w/o the button)? cmon man, you can't be the best if you're just copying from the others.

  • Ugly

  • why s4 active is crap? tell me please.

  • Well Samsung put out that if the phone does get wet within the one year warranty that they will replace it so all you have to do is contact your service provider and they will warranty the device.

  • Well I have the S4 Active and its absolutely crap. Cant see why the S5 would be better. The battery cover is falling off regulary and I dropped it once and its badly dented on the bottom edge. Compared to Motorrola Defy this "active" smartphone is made from porcelain.

  • its too good

  • Water would void your warranty

  • samsung galaxy s5 active have typical samsung galaxy feature such as battery removable external memory etc. better protection than galaxy s5 - IP67 certified - dust and water resistant up to 1 meter and 30 minutes - MIL-STD-810G certified - salt, dust, humidity, rain, vibration, solar radiation, transport and thermal shock resistant plus dedicated camera button. almost perfect but i like it.

  • Wow Wow...! good one but I'm going to buy a s5... Which one is the best looking smartphone S5 or S5 active?

  • This is not ment to be a beatiful device

  • is it going to be available in south africa

  • we want mini version(4.5 or 4.7 inch) o galaxy s5 active...:)

  • No OIS camera is mil 810. For that matter the vibration testing alone would kill any OIS camera. By the way hardware OIS is a fad right now. You are going to see software image stabilization take over. Its cheaper and with faster and faster CPUs going in more and more smart phones. Hardware OIS like in the 1020 will go the way of the dodo. Mark my words.

  • Its actually better. Its mil 810 certified. So its salt water, more dust and debris, vibration and more.

  • Awesome phone !!!! Wish it was available here in india .. :-( ! Hope it is available soon

  • So, I can now take it with me to the shower? will the warranty still be valid?

  • you are on a wrong page, dude.anyway, that design would not survive fall, even from a pocket height...

  • will samsung launch snapdragon version in india

  • That design looks cool indeed but it's far from being comfortablei n hand.Trust me.

  • Where is 55 and 58 IP-certified???. =(

  • Dear,SAMSUNG.. SAMSUNG.. look at the HUAWEI ascend p7 . It is the best ever design in the smartphone world .. It surely beats Z2, I PHONE 5S, ONE M8 in design.. If u can make a smartphone with design like p7 , u are the best ever company...

  • can anyone assist me .i cant access my contacts in my s5. it keeps saying : contacts updating. where can i stop such update? any suggestions.

  • This is an awesome Mobile

  • Excellent new flagship, I'll buy it to my Dad. Currently, I am using Galaxy S5.

  • is there expectation to release in Brazil?

  • >> Super AMOLED capacitive touchscreen, 16M colors This thing is dead to me. That and it's exclusively with AT&T (AT&T likes to lock down the wifi tethering). Looks like the only 2 Android phones on the market with Snapdragon 800 series processors, 1080p or better LCD displays in a 5 - 5.5" form factor, and with a micro SD slot are the Sony Xperia Z2 and the LG G3. I'm still a bit skeptical about the G3's display in terms of battery life, but right now those two are the top contenders for my upgrade dollars.

  • galaxy s5 active the very very best mobiles

  • MIL-STD-810G just google it

  • MIL-STD-810G certified - salt, dust, humidity, rain, vibration, solar radiation, transport and thermal shock resistant. READ THIS

  • No impact resistance? No FM radio? And this is an outdoor phone?

  • Samsung galaxy s5 has awesome and fast autofocus but lacked optical image stabilization present in other phones like Nokia lumia 1020. Samsung has tried to do away that with Galaxy S5 Active I believe. Lg G3 has laser assisted phase detection autofocus and optical image stabilization OIS, Sony Xperia Z2 has good camera but has contrast base autofocus which is dicisively slow for object tracking and video recording of fast moving objects. Although the image stabilization on Sony Xperia Z2 is fast and good.

  • Water resistant only? Why can't they make it water proof like the other famous "S X" competitor?

  • is this SAMSUNG's flagship now!! thats new! as they always put the best features at the bas model!!

  • i think specification are very good/awesome....screen resolution high...water proof resistant....video 2160,1080p present....16 gb internal memeory...but one think not to sure can i move internal apps data into memory/sd card....if its possible...then this mobile is awesome....curve shape...body looking good

  • nice phone i like the bakstage camo.

  • The blue button is the camera's shutter button...^^

  • doomsday mobile

  • I wish I could say the same about the phone though.

  • wow...MIL-STD-810G certified!! the level of military stuff protection.

  • What is the difference between Samsung S5 and Samsung s5 Active?

  • The first actually ugly Samsung device in years. S4 still remains one of the most beautiful devices of all time. HTC M8 after that and the 3rd one is probably LG G3.

  • Is this also region locked?

  • Bear grylls? I like him too

  • Imagine putting that in a protective cover ... heheee

  • yeah! now I can not only scuba dive but also go to war with this.thanks samsung. -made 4 bear grylls

  • we dont need any tough armours anymore! best phone!

  • The blue button is for quick access to active and sport apps

  • As per the specs ,solid sturdy and the best phone in market .....

  • good with protection, but that is one ugly phone.

  • I hope that blue button is for walkie talkie :D

  • finally a rugged smartphone with top of the line specs.this was missing.there were manufacturers like caterpillar, etc which gave rugged smartphone with low-mid range specs. Sony gave the world a top of the line smartphone in compact size. no its time for samsung to deliver a truly active product with top of the line specs

  • Specs are great but not going to come to India and even if comes, Samsung equips it with Exynos Octa version which is not good. And for that, i have to pay 50000rs +. what a idiotic strategy followed in India by Samsung. One would not pay 50k for a phone.

  • super amoled screen plus military grade protection and a flagship level specs.. i will definitely wan to have this phone.. Soon..

  • lol chaina mobile face this mobile not announce plz your time west samsung plz make budget mobile fast spicification are 5 inch display hd faceing camera 2mp android kitkat price 11,000 actully nokia xl also avalible market same price

  • That and it will be Military grade shock proof

  • its world one feature.......... world no1 handset

  • What's the point they made this? The original S5 already has IP certification, it's lighter, smaller, has a heart rate detector, and I think for most people, it has a better design.

  • fTw? Same dust and water proof rating with the s5?? it should have more advanced rating since it is quoted as the more indepth sibling of s5 underwater

  • can say it's a main bloing phone

  • Just a normal S5 + OtterBox defender build-in.

  • It has MIL-STD-810G! Can't you C that??

  • samsung has impemented a ban on fm radio listening for its flag ship phone customers

  • Is this also region locked?

  • i agree i listen to radio all the tie and this will stop me from buying it.

  • It looks cool on the video, but it lacks an FM radio. I just can NOT understand why? I do not want Internet radio sorry, but I am NOT the only one.

  • Let's hope it will not have the same problems as S4 Active regarding the heating and the waterproof (which in many cases didn't work)

  • Another SPAM from Samsung. why? the original S5 was already a water resistant. why making another model which just confusing the customer?

  • You will see that when they announce it. I think it will be shock resistant too.

  • Samsung Galaxy S5 Active to be water proof (only)!!.What To hell ,why Samsung???.

  • I dont love the sam. keys, i always loved the sgs4active hard keys, and its back, is another durable i found, so the sgs5active will be mine!!

  • It is meant to be thermal resistant, salt water resistant, and just more durable in general.

  • Galaxy active supose to be water proof only. Now s5 and s5 active have the same thing I do not underestend. What will be the deferences now ??

  • The stupid tft screen

  • What's the difference between this and S5 . Only name ???????????
